the show's absolutely not avoiding percy's struggle with his identity. but my favorite representation of that, one of my favorite things about the books period, is people calling percy perseus.
perseus is The Hero, both past and present. the people who call him that are chiron, gods, monsters, etc. people whose primary/only interest in him is as this forbidden child who is going to save or doom olympus.
percy is the kid, the actual person who is being manipulated and traumatized at every turn. who literally carried the weight of the world on his shoulders and went through hell.
perseus is poseidon's son, percy is sally's. that seemingly small thing adds so much to any given scene, and i miss it.

Do you know how Steven Universe was a show about a seemingly-prototypical Saturday-morning cartoon kid hero who, under the prototypical conditions of his genre, eventually internalized a deeply unhealthy model of himself as a problem solver and utilitarian object, valuable only in terms of his ability to live up to the expectations of his role? And you know how that show had an entire wind-down season about how the mindset that carried Steven through the first five conventional seasons left him totally adrift and unprepared for “civilian life,” how he’d been inadvertently left without the most basic skill set for existing as his own person independent of a larger heroic goal? Because there was just never time to squeeze it in? Well, if you take away the part where his guardians did that on accident instead of on purpose, as a deliberate lever of control, and if you let that kid age out of his cute, photogenic adolescence into an upper-middle-age to which the audience is much less reflexively sympathetic, and if you take away the part where anything was ever okay again for anyone ever, well. You're sort of getting within swinging distance of the lens through which I view Eidolon

Angel Dust Turns Human - pg3
tw - slight gore!
Part1
Part2
Beginning of how they met, YAYAY!🙂
Sorry about the quality again, I don't like how it sometimes cuts the drawings but I'll settle💔. I've never actually drawn human Alastor till now, but I do like how he turned out so o(≧▽≦)o!
In not gonna do the math about their ages, and I don't think it'd line up w/Canon, but ik Angel died around the 40s near his 20-30s so he'd had lived two decades prior. I'm pretty sure Alastor died around the 20s, not 30s, but that doesn't matter - the point is, Angel would've been a kid before Alastor yknow, died. (Don't take my word for it, I'm probably wrong, but in this lil comic, that's how it is😔) Angel's around 8yrs old and Alastor is somewhere in his late 20s or early 30s (teehee Alastor w dimples🙂!)
Angel playing around with a dead deers head WILL be explained, trust!🙏 I got the idea of domino's bc I think it's a nice game to bond over, also I just like the game and I remember my Dad teaching me how it works so FATHER AND SON MOMENT RISE!💥💥 Anyways, Angel's childhood won't align w Canon (sorry, so ooc, but I like it☹️).
Hope you like Human Alastors and Kid Angel's design🙏!!

I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim
Secret origins 80 page giant, ID in alt
(or well, technically this was their second meeting in that story (the brick was the first) so...love at second sight?)
Mostly because Stephanie showed no interest in her introduction and only showed romantic feelings towards Tim AFTER this moment here:
Robin (1993) #4, ID in alt
Straight up the progression here goes:
The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting
Robin (1993) #4, ID in alt
Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.
Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)
Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)

Dick left sometime near 2am. He and Jason had a great time playing video games, then just chatting. For hours.
And.
It was great. It was actually really, really great. But then Dick checked his phone for the fifteenth time in so many minutes, and he sighed.
“Is real life calling?” Jason asked.
“Yeah, something like that,” Dick sighed, “big standoff in Blud. I should probably…”
“Go play hero. I should sleep anyway, God knows these brats will make me be awake in the morning regardless of what time I get to sleep.”
Dick stood up, but turned and opened his arms up for a hug, so Jason stood as well to give one.
“I’m so damn proud of you Jay,” Dick said, squeezing him tight, “You’re doing so much for those kids.”
“Yeah, well, someone has to,” Jason mumbled.
“I’ll text you in the morning to tell you all about the stand off,” Dick said, as he let go, “Let me know if I passed the vibe check.”
With a grin, Jason walked Dick to the door and said, “Will do. See ya, Dick.”
“Bye Little Wing.”
“Fuck off with that,” Jason said lightly, but he was smiling as he shut the door behind Dick.
