Just...noise. Their partner chewing loudly/ with their mouth open, talking way too loudly, and picking their nose. Also, their partner queue jumping.

He snores really loudly and he gets up a lot of times during the night: first he might wanna get a midnight snack, then drink some water, then go to the toilet, then go open the window 'cause it's hot, and the list goes on. Yes, all that in one night.

Those endearing moments where you catch your partner sleeping and they just look so cute? Yeah, never happening with Martin, he's either up or snoring. He also sometimes uses words the wrong way 'cause English isn't his first language.

Harley loves to just sit and talk with people, especially her lover. So her pet peeve would be when she wants to talk but it becomes a monologue 'cause her partner just stares at her and answers with monosyllables.

When Harley and her partner have planned to do an activity, and her partner keeps saying they're about to go get dressed so they can go, but it's been 3 hours and they still haven't done that.

She's an early bird. Say her s/o accidentally wakes up at 7:00 am, they'll find that Harley has already left, made coffee, left a a cute note saying

"brb!!! wanted to go on a run! I love you!!"

and bought groceries. They'll fall back asleep and wake up an hour later and Harley would have come home, wrote a song about how cute her partner is when they sleep, and bought them a bouquet with their favourite flowers.

Basically lazy mornings together are non existent with her and she'll prolly accidentally wake her partner up like 3 times in a morning.

Echo:

When her s/o folds a page on a book instead of using a bookmark, or when they doodle on her textbook with a pen when she'd planned on selling it afterwards.

Echo will stay up the whole night playing a video game, watching a series or reading a book, their partner will go to sleep and wake up to find her in the same position. There comes the question: has she slept at all?

The answer is no.

She'll even try really really hard to convince her s/o to stay up with her so they can be together.

Echo will also literally terrorise her partner, she loves sneaking up on people and she's such a try-hard about it. She won't just sneak up on people, no; she'll even use her abyss powers to teleport behind her s/o and scare them.

Bad hygiene, especially bad breath/ yellow teeth. Bad communication, like his s/o giving him the cold shoulder after they had a disagreement.

He's a workaholic, if he can work on a book he's writing, research a specific type of affinity, or read a book about magic theory, he will. This man doesn't know how to relax, his partner will have to force him to sit down and chill together.

He is also probably addicted to playing chess on his phone, if he isn't working or spending time with his partner, he's on the chess.com app. Specifically, the 3 minute long matches, which he'll lose anyways 'cause he forgets he only has 3 minutes and he'll spend an eternity before making any move.

All this 'cause he watched one (!) episode of The Queen's Gambit (didn't have the time to watch the rest, he says).

Ok, sorry to dump this kind of rant on you, but you're one of the more active Aphmau blogs, and I wanted to hear someone else's opinion on this. Anyway, it’s not a new topic that people are disappointed in MCD’s worldbuilding, but I really wish the idea of religion, or more specifically, different religions, were explored more. I’m kind of rewatching the series really slowly, but if I remember correctly, the religion (the divine warriors) isn't really explored beyond, like, maybe four of the members? And even when we learn stuff about them, it just doesn’t make that much sense? Because the characters in the series treat them as though they were a pantheon, but they're just normal dudes, just some vaguely powerful guys. I want to say they are more like saints or prophets, but they don't answer to or preach about any greater beings; it's Just Them. Did people in the MCD universe just not worship any gods or spirits before these guys showed up?? Do the people of this universe at the very least have some creation myths floating around???

I remember at one point they mention that there's a wolf god, but we know basically nothing about them besides that they cursed a human to become a werewolf. But werewolves in this universe aren’t just ‘people who turn into wolves’ because only some of them have that ability... So why are these Giant Wolf People and "people who turn into wolves" lumped into the same category? Wouldn’t it make more sense if the story was a legend by the Giant Wolf People to scare off humans from hunting wolves? especially since their young still walk on all fours and could be mistaken for a normal wolf from a distance.

 Anyway, back on topic, I think it does make sense that at the beginning of the story a lot of the characters' main religious affiliation is with these "Divine Warriors" since that will be the main religion that the story focuses on, but as the series continued, its world building could have benefited from exploring more religions and cultures. As more characters were introduced, more aspects of the world should have been introduced as well. Even if Jess didn't want to have to create entirely new locations to showcase these various religions and cultures, there are a lot of new characters that come later in the series who had their homes destroyed or that we just never got to see (ex: Aaron, Dante [and by extension, Gene]) who could have talked to Aphmau about this! It would have also added some depth to these characters' backstories and could have even made them more tragic. Like, "Why did Zane destroy Aaron’s village?" Well, we know that O'Khasis wanted to become a monarchy and rule over the entire continent; maybe Zane was in charge of some kind of religious crusade, and that’s why he had Aaron’s entire village killed. Stuff like that could lead to deep moments between Aphmau and some of the other members of the cast as they recount their old homes that they can’t or might not ever be able to return to and how weird everything is now that they don’t have anyone who’s familiar with or shares the same culture and religion as them, bonding with Aphmau because they can finally freely talk to someone about these important aspects of themselves without being judged.

NO HONESTLY THAT’S BOTHERED ME SOOO MUCH. how did the minecraft diaries world come to be? where did it start? what is magic in this world? they dont even have to explain it just give a lazy explanation and say a god or gods created the world.

because how did irene get her relic in the first place? did ppl just not have any faiths? how did they cope w/ death before irene? HOW DO THEY COPE W/ DEATH AFTER IRENE?? sure you can say that technically the nether could be their equivalent of the afterlife or hell but that’s only for guards, so what about everyone else?

though i do wna point out when u mentioned they were just normal dudes- it’s mentioned that there is speculation if irene herself was a goddess or a regular person- when it comes to legends of powerful people, their deeds can be exaggerated as time goes on so some people’s faiths lean towards that they were gods, while some could be skeptical and believe they were just people w/ powers. the audience and the main cast of mcd know the truth, however people like molly (??) and just other regular common dick and stanleys, dont know the whole truth.

Okay, I'm neurotic and I know it, but I have to say it now so I can get it off my mind. I swear to gd my roommate is like sleepwalking or something. Ever since we moved in, occasionally I'd hear what sounded like jumping coming from their room and never knew what to think of it. Like I thought they were randomly doing jumping jacks. I never mentioned it to anyone before bc it was so weird I didn't even know how to describe it and I didn't wanna put them on the spot since I didn't know what it was to begin with. And now the door stairs ppl threatened to call the cops on us (cringe) if we "didn't quit stomping" at 12am, but like, none of us were awake then. ANYWAY, my other roommate kinda tried to take the fall for it since she comes home late and walks around to cook and w/e but I SWEAR that's not it. I like tried to bring it up at first to my roommate but they had like no idea what I was talking about and now I can't stop thinking about how it's gonna happen again and downstairs guy is gna get pissed but there's nothing we can do. When Y/N was five years old they told their mom they wanted to be a doctor. However, when one is five years old they assume being a doctor only entails helping people, being nice to children and giving them lollipops and that seemed like the best career choice ever.

However, when Y/N was six years old they went on a bike ride with their next door neighbor, a girl their age named Rebecca. This particular neighborhood friend loved to play dangerously and had conceived a game like tag, however you had to stay on the bike the entire time. Although innocent on paper, about 12 minutes into the game Rebecca had stood up on the seat of her bicycle in an attempt to get a better reach at Y/N and tumbled over the front handlebars.

She shook it off quickly and by the time Y/N had rushed over to help she was already on her feet.

“Are you okay?” Y/N asked in a panic.

Rebecca brushed some rocks off her shorts, looked up at Y/N and smiled, “Yep! That was so much fun!” she said, going in for a high five.

Rebecca however, was not okay and had failed to notice that two of the “rocks” she had brushed off were actually her two front teeth. When she smiled and spoke to Y/N they were overcome with panic when they saw her mouth, missing two teeth and gushing blood.

So naturally, they immediately passed out.

Rebecca quickly ran to get her mother, more concerned for Y/N than herself, and still hadn’t even noticed her teeth’s absence. Both children were driven to the hospital, and although Y/N woke up on the way, they got checked out to make sure they didn’t have a concussion.

Soon after they were clear Y/N’s parents arrived. Hovering over their six year old and asking all sorts of questions, the first and only thing Y/N thought to do is turn to their mother. “Mom?”

“Yes sweetheart?”

“I don’t think I wanna be a doctor anymore.”

Y/N’s mother laughed and wrapped her arms around the crying child, “Maybe that’s not the best idea.”

Even with their fear of blood, Y/N career ambitions remained the same: help people, be nice to children, hand out lollipops. So when they graduated Y/N started their own candy store. It was the perfect job for such a sweet soul, and by the time they were 28 Y/N had perfected their storefront. Glass displays were replaced with plastic to prevent people cutting themselves if they broke, they keep a small collection of different patterned and themed band-aids right next to the cash register and without fail had at least one medical student working in the summer in between school years (in case of emergencies).

But no amount of prepping could help Y/N when Dr. Spencer Reid came into their store with his four year old godson.

Y/N couldn’t help but smile as they watched Spencer and Henry zoom around the empty store, Henry throwing all kinds of sugary sweets into his basket and Spencer encouraging the entire thing. Soon enough the two were at the register and dumping at least eighty dollars worth of candy on the counter. Y/N began ringing it up, but was soon interrupted by the small child, barely in sight because of the desk in front of him.

“Excuse me? Do you have a band-aid? I got a paper cut.”

“Yes I do! What kind of band-aid do you want?”

“Ummmm do you have Spiderman?”

“Of course I have Spiderman! Here you go,” they said, setting it on the counter.

“Can you put it on for me?” He reached up his little finger to show Y/N his cut.

Quickly jolting their head, Y/N panicked “Um maybe you could have your dad help you with that. . .”

“Of course, I’m sorry, and I’m actually his godfather. . . “ He looked up and noticed Y/N’s aversion to the cut, “It’s safe to look now.”

Y/N sighed, “I’m sorry, I just can’t stand blood. What did he cut it on?”

Henry was entertaining himself flipping through the pages of his godfather’s abnormally large book, not reading it of course, because although Henry was smart for a four year old, he was not yet fluent in Russian.

“Oh nothing that’s your fault,” the man said. He was then nudged by his godson, and apparently, personal wingman, “Um, I’m Spencer!”

“Hi Spencer! I’m Y/N,” they smiled, finishing their calculations, “Um, your total is $81.92”

He was thrown off, “That’s not right, it should be 96.37. . . Did you forget something?”

“Actually your forgetting my 15% injury discount, and the extra lollipop I give to nice kids,” they reached down to hand Henry a raspberry lemonade lollipop.

“You really don’t have to do that! It was my fault really-”

“No seriously, trust me I’m kind of ripping you off here. I combined the injury discount and the cute guy discount.”

Spencer blushed, “Um well maybe we could go get coffee sometime to make it up to me.”

“I would love that”

On this coffee date Y/N learned about Spencer’s job and was shocked he would go on a date with someone who was scared of papercuts. However Spencer explained he found it admirable that someone could be so affected by other people’s pain, and later into their relationship discussed how he wished he was as affected by the gore of his job as he was during the beginning.

Their romance worked perfectly, Spencer loved having someone waiting at home for him, a person who could be completely separate from work and the cases that affected him so much that he needed to talk about them typically ended up involving more manipulation than gore.

But just over a year in Y/N got a phone call from Aaron Hotchner.

Spencer had been shot in the neck.

They got to the hospital as soon as possible, and rushed to Spencer’s room, completely forgetting about the things they were almost certainly going to see.

So when Y/N walked in at the worst possible moment, as Spencer was getting his gauze changed and his open wound was in full view, they freaked out, letting out a quick scream and crouching to the ground, covering their eyes with their hands.

“Y/N! You’re here!”

Y/N did their best and eventually had made their way to Spencer’s bedside chairs, only having to peek twice. Once there, Y/N’s hands remained firmly locked over their eyes, both to protect themselves from the blood and to cover their panicked tears from Spencer.

“Y/N, close your eyes tight and remove your hands for me darling.”

They shook their head aggressively. Spencer sighed, “Trust me, I’ve got you.” So they did, and as they kept their eyes glued shut, Y/N felt Spencer use his thumb to wipe tears from their cheeks, before tying something around their eyes.

“See, now you can’t see the blood, and I can hold you,” he said, grabbing one of Y/N’s hands and kissing the back of it now that gauze had been tied around their eyes.

Quickly Y/N wrapped their arms around Spencer’s middle as best as they could with him laying down, and cried into him. Spencer soothed them by petting their hair, “It’s okay darling, they just changed the gauze so it’s gone now, there’s no more blood if you feel ready to take it off.”

Y/N sobbed more and ripped their makeshift blind fold off, “I’m so stupid. . . You got shot and you have to comfort me because of a little blood . . .”

“No, no, no. Don’t talk about yourself like that, you are not stupid. You’re scared and overwhelmed. I already knew I was okay but you didn’t when you came in there, not only that but as soon as you came into this extremely stressful situation you were greeted with your worst fear. You’re all I’m worried about right now.”

Y/N smiled “I’m so happy you’re okay. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“Well luckily you don’t have to worry about it.”

I was looking for your take on the anon's "small problem" with the new writers and this remind me of my apology for "taking" your Chaeyoung FBW idea days back. Glad that I learned from it and ideas that are not patented can't be an issue of who's copying and who's not. In real life people fuck in common places with common routines (kitchen foreplay before mirror sex). You can't accuse them copying your idea just because they had the same place and routine as you and your partner. If we're going to pull the "originality" card then everyone will not qualify because it boils down to one concept and that's SEX between female idols and male readers.

On the other hand, I feel like this anon is looking for some soul from the works of the new writers and comparing it to the works of senior writers here. For me that's an unfair comparison since the new writers are still exploring their potentials and some were pushed to write because they were inspired by the senior writers so most likely their concept will be common from their inspiration.

As a reader, I tend to re-read my favorite fanfics and the surge of new writers gave me the opportunity to read each works and evaluate them if they can be added to "my favorites". If not then I will not read them again, easy.

How many different ideas can there be in the first place? Ideas cannot be patented unless it's made physical—ie. if someone invented the covid vaccine and has it legally put under their name, I can't say its mine. But if it doesn't exist physically, I can take it and start work on it. It just has to be original. (Asmodeus is doing work on ideas ive spouted, i like that)

Kiara would definitely hate Lauren

Soft spoken and struggles to convey her thoughts? Kiara would be baring fangs before she even finished a sentence "Just speak, worthless herbivore!!!". As a girl who was also born only to better her parents social status and will be forced into a loveless marriage to better their status more, Lauren's romantic idea of love and prince charming would piss her off (doesn't help her "prince" experience is Leona). Not to mention she'd hate a "cutesy" flower nickname

Nasira would hate Dorothea

She's far too energetic for the seamstress's like. Nasira likes to stay on one topic and elucidate. Nasira can put up with Kalim as it is her job, however others who share his personality are not as lucky. Her "jack of all trades" would bother Nasira as she traded away basically half of her lifespan for magic, while Dorothea seems to take her talents for granted. With how Nasira is I can see her finding Dorothea draining (and the girl is already almost permanently tired from the curse draining her life daily)

Lyss would be grumpy with Mallory

Lyss is probably my most chaotic oc, being tainted by blot and having pacts with demons just adds to her chaotic nature. So to deal with someone who's paranoid of the paranormal would annoy her. I can see her even going out of her way (in good fun on her end) to cause more paranormal bad stuff to happen. Lyss would just scare the poor girl constantly by being herself and she'd get annoyed

Veil would despise Priscilla

Envy and jealousy turned to loathing? Yep. To be a monstrous merfolk and yet be considered loved and beautiful while Veil was scarred and isolated for just existing? Oh she'd hate her. I can see her thinking Priscilla is just playing a part to be liked, while even when Veil tries to be helpful people are afraid of her. While obviously people can be afraid of Priscilla's monster form, Veil's monstrous features show even when she's in a human appearance with snake fangs showing when she's mad. Veil does not care who she hurts when fully in her merform so to know Priscilla is aware of what she does and is conscious of her behavior would bother Veil. A "just be a monster, stop trying to be liked!!! They'll.... Never like who we are anyways..."

HISTORY:

was born in georgiaaaa georgiaaaa (phoebe bridgers voice holds my bang...) to a vry honest hard working man named george (omgggg he’s called GEORGE and he’s from GEORGIA? ahaaaaa fuckk ur jestinggg) nd a woman who did her best named pamela..... george worked on a construction site n pamela was a pharmacist..... their house was this small rickety white thing with a wrap around porch n a very rabid overgrown garden tht kind of looked like the earth ws trying to reclaim it bc nobody ever hd the time or motivation to mow the lawn.... there ws literally a piece of fold out furniture just entirely submerged by weeds n foliage

nyla ws always closest w their dad george..... he hd this way of looking at the world tht was seeing the best in all of it.... he took them on long walks where he talked abt how u have to respect the trees bc they’re breathing fr us n we’re breathing fr them..... he hd a strange whimsical sense of humour n a gnome alter ego called grundlebolt who always tickled them..... in a way this closeness created a distance between nyla n their mother but not so much that it ws rly a problem. just enough tht nyla sometimes waited until their mother ws out of eye n ear shot to tell their dad they loved him bc they didn’t wna make her sad >_>

(mental health, death & grief tw) pamela always struggled w her mental health but george ws great n understanding n knew how to help her thru this... nyla didn’t get it too greatly at a very young age bt they knew their mum got “the sads” sometimes (how their dad wld explain tht she needed to lay down in the quiet for a while or why she’d stood at the stove n let the dinner burn until the smoke detector went off without doing anything abt it). when nyla was 14 they got home one day to a police car in the driveway n came prancing in exuberantly as they always did. immediately hugged the legs of an officer bc this is hw they wld greet everyone they ever met. they only realised something was wrong when they let go n saw their mum sat at the table crying. essentially there ws an accident at the construction site george worked at n :/ yeah. 

(jst mental health & grief tw now) this rly had an intense ripple effect on everyone tbh. pamela’s mental health deteriorated quite a lot without george there as her rock n nyla sort of had to step in as best they cld but it was....... hard. some days she ws better bt some days nyla had to sit her in the bath n stroke a wet sponge over her back bc they didn’t know how else to calm her down. nyla always had a very overactive imagination which george encouraged bt it ws like. losing him rly opened a window in nyla’s head n all rationality went floating out of it. their dreams seemed more real than being awake. fantasy wasn’t jst the way they coped bt it was the way they thought n the way they saw. everything on earth was alive. the trees n the clouds n the wall with a brick missing at the bottom of her road n especially their dad. their dad was alive in everything in nyla’s head. the sun shining extra bright in the morning was george. ponds were a veil they could dunk her head under and find george waiting on the other side. reality rly just pulled the plug n said bye tbh n they were ok w that <3

(abuse implied tw) their mum remarried too fast to a man named stephen n it was jst not a good arrangement. he was Not a nice man. i won’t go into this but home wasn’t a nice place for nyla any more n after a couple of yrs stephen wound up asking them to leave n their mum said nothing to contradict tht. there’s more to this bt long story short nyla left <3

(drugs tw) they couch surfed fr a while before settling living w their best friend. they got up to like... all sorts of trouble n grew up far too fast. nyla’s lack of sense n realism hd a habit of getting them into some sticky situations n these few yrs were a rollercoaster where they got by on the skin of their teeth. when they think of high skl they think of gravel and skinned knees and sucking sherbet dunkers to ignore the taste of pennies in ur mouth and getting lost in the woods a lot bc they’d take FAR too many drugs n be lead astray having conversations with kind trees whose branches held their hands

(drug mention) got by on odd jobs like making candles n selling them at market stalls. leaf blowing at cemeteries. face painting fr children’s parties (where they were blatantly high). random stuff. all over the place. in this time them n their best friend also hd a sugar daddy named tony who always wore very impressive colour block suits n mink stoles n jewelled fedoras n hd a swanky apartment w marble floors. rly just. surreal. lots of strange stories frm this time.

things kind of blew up in their friendship group n they fell out w their best friend raya bc she slept w this guy aj who nyla hd been madly in love w for yrs.... he was a Stinker n honestly so ws their best friend so good riddance i say bt obviously it felt like having their entire world flipped upside dwn fr nyla.... they split after this came out bc they just did Not want to b around these ppl any more n they decided to leave w this guy frm a band they barely knew tht much save fr a one night stand to tour w them..... this ws another whirlwind. jst chock full of them. it ws similar to being on a teacup ride at a carnival n spinning round n round n only knowing u were surrounded by lots of lights. tht’s how they’d best describe their time on tour.

SO in terms of them coming to irving 8 months ago they came w the band.... they honestly did pretty well on tour n wound up renting a big beach house on dorado as a kind of “retreat” sort of place fr them to shack up in while they worked on writing and recording their first big studio album (they gt signed w a label so it’s all vry exciting stuff). nyla among like 3 others were allowed to stay w them too bc they hd a lot of fun on tour. literally jst. taken on as professional groupies essentially. nyla loved it bc they’d never seen the ocean n when they first got there they jst threw off all their clothes n ran straight into the water. it was 3pm on a tuesday afternoon. they got arrested fr public indecency n didn’t get why bc they were like but i just wanted to hug the ocean u silly little oinker? i picture the beach house as like. the loudest one on dorado.... comes alive like a jungle at night..... they r probably bad neighbours. anyway. onto personality puts hand on hip.

PERSONALITY:

sets out patio furniture on someone else’s lawn n jst takes a seat n leans back like ahhhhh vat a nice day to be alive ya! (swedish accent suddenly bc they think it’s fun). they come out n start yelling n they’re jst so confused they’re like hey wat’s the big idea hey wat’s go on here why u angies why this happen?

likes drawing imaginary veins over their arms in all different colour blue pens in a sudden fit of hyperfixation n then forgets all abt it n goes out like tht n scares several townsfolk bt they’re oblivious they’re jst in her own world loving life already onto the next fixation. has many many different fads like this. one day will jst start snipping up a bunch of magazines bc they’re like EYES ARE COOL N THEY SEE EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P n they’ll stick a bunch of them over their wall n then forget they was doing that n leap onto the next. quite a pattern. bt they love the vein thing a lot it makes them feel like a walking planetarium like they have their own constellations

sometimes jst doesn’t make sense. they’re honestly kind of strange. pops up in places like they suddenly materialised there n it’s like how did u get there where have u been when were u last seen are u ok. has the energy of an ancient deity frm deep in a mountain cave n an ambiguous forest sprite all at once..... talks shit honestly. abt anything n everything. sometimes outrageous. sometimes plain incoherent. like what are u talking about? i dnt kno. even i dnt kno sometimes.

ok so. lana has a habit of sharing food as one of her many love languages i think. she jst likes.... giving ppl things even if it means she’ll have less. she’d let a wolf make a meal out of her n eat every last piece if she loved him n she knew he’d feel full. bt of everyone i feel like teddy hs always been the one she does this w most.... like even when they first met in the cafeteria she gave him spoonfuls of her greek yogurt n honey. whenever she’s eating fruit (which is a lot she’s obsessed w strawberries n peaches n grapes n tangerines n oranges) she’ll ALWAYS give him half whether tht’s segmenting up pieces or dividing bites evenly between them n Without Fail it’ll always b half tht she gives him whereas she might give other ppl like.... a bite or a piece or two bt......... it’s rly specific each time tht she gives teddy half. it isn’t even intentional it’s jst like a subconscious thing bt if we were to slide on spectacles n analyse this in an english class fr it’s Meaning then. looks at u then looks away. i think this represents the way tht teddy hs always felt like another half of her. they’re one in the same. in a lot of ways they’re very similar mayb even................ JSGSFKGHFHGKHGSFKH. literally jst jolting him awake w this rarely serious n genuine conversation then passing out. jst the worst fk teddy’s life bet he lay there staring at the ceiling fr so long after tht one <3 lana wouldn’t remember this in the morning either she’d wake up like why am i here........ did we meet up last night............ teddy jst like >_> u crashed here it was nbd.

i picture the first week they moved to LA lana wldn’t have admitted it bt she wld be feeling rly homesick............ radcliffe was very much like the first place she truly felt was her home n she’d miss all of the ppl there n just the general area A Lot............. one night i can see her jst wanting to spend with teddy to have like a sense of familiarity in an unfamiliar city (even if she’s spent a decent amt of time there over the yrs bc of jameson records hving studios etc bt still) n i’m imagining them like. breaking into an indoor swimming complex that her n her friends in high skl used to break into in the summers when they vacationed yrs ago.... maybe lana still has a key cut tht works from a connection she made bk then idk <3 it doesn’t matter <3 n they’d inevitably be drunk n just messing around n splashing each other n doing handstand competitions n all the typical..... fun frivolous childish antics lana n teddy tend to get into whenever they’re around each other.... truly jst transformed into big kids whenever they’re in the other’s company..... inspired a little by this gifset jst in terms of the playing around underwater vibe. anyway. mayb they mostly dry off bt they end up climbing up onto the rooftop after n it’s a baking summer night anyway so it isn’t like they’ll catch a cold being damp bt they share a big fluffy towel n bottle of rum between them huddled overlooking the lights of the city. n maybe somehow it gets onto lana admitting how much she misses home n how it’s kind of weird being here especially bc she’s further from caleb. she’s never been this far from him since he was away in the army n we all kno hw tht turned out. mayb she’d go a bit quiet after saying this bt then i think she’d take his hand w their fingers laced together n she’d rest her head on his shoulder n be like. at least i’ll always have u. it’s like i took a piece of home w me. we’ve always had each other like that. then she’d perk up n lift her head n be like let’s make a deal. i’ll be ur home if u’ll be mine. ok? n make him pinky promise. i dnt think she’d quite consider the sentimentality in tht bt 😔 she nvr rly does she jst says what feels natural without attention paid to the deeper meaning tht motivated it n.... sighs. looks at u then looks away....

So I was thinking about reincarnation ExR fics and Area 51 memes

(as one does)

and the repeated reincarnation fics (again and again and again ad nauseum) always seem to involve Grantaire remembering every lifetime and Enjolras basically living his memory-less life in peace, the two's lives inevitably intertwining, only for them to fall in love and Grantaire to watch Enjolras die.

Which is a great formula, and I love it, but what if both lost their memories?

At some point or another Enjolras or Grantaire realize something keeps happening

There are these odd moments of deja-vu and gaps in their memories, or someone around them will say something that doesn't seem quite right

And one day Enjolras encounters a note--something half-formed and carefully hidden somewhere that clearly only he would find it

So he asks around and no one is sure what it means, but Combeferre is really intrigued by it and begins to make it his personal project

Meanwhile Enjolras and Grantaire seem to be becoming closer, and it's exciting and nerve-wracking but also maybe it can be nice?

And one day after Enj gets back to the apartment and fills Ferre in on the latest development with R he asks how the work with the weird cryptic message is going and

Combeferre has no idea what Enjolras is talking about. No blessed clue. Enjolras tries to find the message again--it's gone. No photos on either of their devices. Entirely wiped from existence.

At first Enj feels almost resigned to writing it off as imagined or dreamt, and Ferre reminds Enj that he's been working a lot lately

But the more he thinks about it the less likely it seems--he knows what he saw

Anyway there's a lull between terms now, and most of the amis have gone home for break, leaving just Enj and R in town for the summer

Enj continues the work, in private and secret now, and starts trying to leave other clues around and seeing hownlong it takes for them to disappear

The first time one actually disappears he actually can't believe it, but he doesn't know what it means

Eventually R is over (because their awkward courtship is continuing nevertheless, and R brought over some leftover lasagna and a movie to entice Enj into a break), and R spots one if these half-scrawled markings

"Is there a reason you have a date and location under your coffee table in ohonetic cyrillic?"

R can read them?

"Well yeah, sure: I got really into codebreaking in middle school and learned a bunch of alphabets to be a dick to my teachers."

Honestly, Enj could kiss him

They go out to that location to explore, and it becomes a sort of scavenger hunt: each place has a new date and location, each in a different alphabet, all seemingly codes that R kniws and recognizes

Each place also feels oddly familiar, despite that neither remembers ever having been there before--definitely not together

By the fourth place R realizes that the codes are all in his own handwriting

And why are the dates all progressively further and further back?

The last place doesn't have another code, not one they can find, but it's nice, and they have a moment together where they just enjoy being there together

They move to koss one another and--

Enjolras wakes to the sound of the front door to his apartment opening

"Hey Enj. What've you been up to since I left?" Combeferre asks genially

Enjolras looks around the room. There's a stack of papers on his desk that he doesn't remember from before, and all of his emails on his phone are answered. He has an unread message from Grantaire, but he'll get to that soon enough.

"Work, I guess."

"Take it easy," Combeferre tells him. "You need to recover before the term starts up again."

Enjolras nods, opening the text

[20.58] Grantaire: I just went back to the park, and the message is gone. Do you know what happened?

Enjolras frowns at his phone before typing his response.

[09.42] Grantaire: Oh man no clue lol
