its the fan tool on heavypaint!! which is a free drawing app that i love a lot. and the fan tool is my fave its kind of a crutch actually im trying to use other tools gkfdhgsdg but its so fun i can do a whole painting using it exclusively. heres a video of it in action while i mess w the configuration options. u can slide the noise jitter up and down so its more or less streaky hehe ^^

I'm sorry it's crashing on your tablet... I don't have a tablet so I don't really have an advice. Unfortunately because HP is a small dev app it can be kind of finicky... especially in between updates. I think if you reached out to vaughn ling/heavypoly he'd probably respond though! he seems to keep up with the community pretty well.

idk is it worth it to read any shounen manga for female side characters?????? (??) HEAVILY DEBATABLE. on one hand the casual observer would say no but on the other hand femslash shippers are the strongest people on god's green earth and will endure great tortures for paltry table scraps.

I think mha is a good manga but it's still a shounen, some of the tropes they squeeze the girls into kind of suck. I can kind of put my annoyance aside because regardless im still a big fan of cool fight scenes and the power of friendship but I think your mileage will vary depending on how much tolerance you have for that kind of story...? There's an awful lot of chapters afterall. I will say this: though toga and ochako aren't the main characters they're not in the background either. the path of their relationship spans multiple arcs across the entire manga and is both plot relevant and relevant to the greater themes/thesis of the story. it's pretty clear that the mangaka and editorial team are dedicated to giving these characters the time and page space to play out. it's not perfect but thats better than a decent amount of big shounen femslash in my opinion? shrugs

Thank you! for both the compliments and the concern. but I want to assure you that... to be perfectly honest I don't think I'll ever stop posting my art regardless of AI. I don't want to make this into a hot take like this is an entirely personal opinion and I don't expect any other artists to share my position but: Everything about my art that I consider valuable is inherently impossible for AI to replicate and everything about my art that is replicable and monetizable is not something I'm interested in owning or protecting. (this is also why at the end of the day i dont really care that much about art theft, tracing etc. and i think 90% of the time style theft is just silly)

I believe art should be freely shared and to restrict that is to make art into a product which is morally despicable and moreover uninteresting... to me. lol. I DO RECOGNIZE HOWEVER I'm very lucky to have both more of an online audience than I even want + a fulltime job that takes the pressure off any of my other art to make money. it's totally valid for other artists to have differing opinions on this especially depending on personal circumstances. AND also I make art that is primarily a product above all else for work everyday so im a hypocrite but. yeah thats my two cents.

I havent been posting in a while, ive been deep in the hole.

I never write much really, but tonight i feel like a bit

Been working on a pretty big wall painting commission, that kinda goes a little off my usual style in a sense? [ being the subject im painting its the deity ganesh ] im nearish the end of it and its been good becouse for a while they've been giving me a room to be in.

Living in a house in winter now feels weird, im used to be either in a tent or in some kind of squat or abandoned building really.. for a ling time now ive been living in a abandoned lectric tower without windows nor a door, water or electricity in the middle of the woods, and that was my house last winter too. I wished so much for a house and warmth and i just used to live at the bar that was a punk community of pilgrims like me.

But now

Its.. like i cant stand to be in this closed walls anymore. Im still in the middle of the wooda in the nothing in a village so small and so abandoned there is 7 houses in total. Yet.

And i dont understand why i feel like this.. why am i not happy to be in the warmth for once? And just .. crave the cold uncomfortable memory of where i was. Toxic environment of self isolation yet forcing myself to be around, all the days ive spent in those long tall walls of the tower on a moldy mattress smoking on silver just to make the time pass to be able to sleep

Ive been completely clean here. Painting, i can have a shower when i want, hell, i can even eat fresh food from the garden for free

Versus Homonculus the train track noises (bells specifically) have the sense of impending doom and then the bit around 1.14 with the crescendo and the brass with the bells makes you feel the fight as its going along and i dont know WHY but i love it so much

Envy Revealed when this plays im always reminded of like. how hopeless the situation was. ed and ling were literally in gluttony's STOMACH and this is playing while they're about to fight a regenerating, hellish creature with faces all over it this moment feels So Tense i love the music as well

Fire in the Sky the NAME is what starts us off here, fire in the sky a perfect title for when this music plays. in the times when the team is split up, or ed realizes something horrifying, or maes. uh. anyway! fire in the sky is a great way to slowly introduce the idea to the watcher with the music as well as the show itself.

feel free not to reply but on the topic of character growth, i did agree somewhat w the jc stagnation meta but. my view was always that jc actually had a slight negative character arc. like i agree in terms of emotional maturity (esp around wwx - bc it's wwx's story like you said!) jc definitely doesnt change much. but like op talked about jc blaming wwx for the massacre but baby!jc doesnt do that past his initial breakdown! however, after the 13 years, he does, bc he's more lost in the anger/grief & more bitter, isolationist and sharper (i say w love). its not a huge change but its there? his emotions havent changed much but how he deals with them has, at least a bit. development, but not 'growth' you know?

however i know there is a lot of fanon that softens jc during the skip, so i can agree with op that that feels OOC (as much as i like that fanon too 😬). but also a lot of people would disagree with me here bc they'd say jc was always this bad so. you know. whatever

i do agree with you that it feels like a lot of characters haven't really changed much. (i think lwj does have an arc than you said) but! i feel like it's part of the point that we don't really see characters change onscreen. or that a lot of them don't get the chance until everything is revealed. p much all the development is off screen, either in the skip (w lwj & jgy & nhs) or post canon...

Yeah, I'd agree with that! JC has had over a decade to stew about it and I think he's a little obsessive! What he wants is an explanation, he wants to know why WWX broke his promise, and dude has a LOT of issues so it's all wrapped up with was it me, was I not good enough as well as all the trash talking that others are doing. JC thought the fight where WWX was expelled from the sect was fake, or at least fake enough that he brings Yanli in her wedding clothes to Yilling! But JC doesn't think anyone will choose him first, he has such an inferiority complex, and he really has not improved on that in the 16-year-gap. So yeah it's not really "growth" so much as like, getting really good at self-flagellation, then trying to turn that into anger at WWX, and being angry at himself for (in my opinion) still loving his brother, even after all of this. He still wants that explanation, he still wants him to come back, but he's so angry about it all! He's a mess!

I do like fanon that softens JC, especially when it leans into him being a good uncle to Jin Ling (what we see in the text supports that!) but because the book is mainly from WWX's perspective he's not going to exactly see those parts of JC during the main story - but maybe post-canon!

And yeah for your last point, that's really what caught me about the post I was referring to. There's not a lot of change in the cultivation world, there's not a lot of change in most of the characters, and while some of it is time gap I think it's also like... kind of a comment on WWX as an agent of change? The fact that he comes back and overturns everything - again! - is significant. Without this unorthodox, mad genius (who, especially in the book, is NOT a 100% good guy) the whole cultivation world kind of stagnates. The Jins repeating the power grab of the Wens is kind of a big plot point, after all (that is, the parallel between Wen Ruohan and Jin Guangshan).

I realized I actually have made... kind of a lot of content for my RVB story-line? It is just scattered chunks here and there, though. I don’t know if anybody cares, but here is like, the most important parts-

ok we get into long abandoned wip territory here. but still! number three i guess is the xicheng + wangxian dystopia au which I still think about daily but have no real clue how to write it properly. welp

wangningxian fics. there are like. four of these all half finished (one actually all the way finished but I havent ever posted wangningxian before so I panicked and now its been a year) so anyway one is modern au where wn and wwx are fwb but they have a mutual crush on lwj, two are just soft post-canon-ness, and one is where lwj finds wn during the sixteen years

chengsu fics. I think there are two of these? just of soft Moments sometimes with jin ling and sometimes with some xiyao thrown in for added Spice

what is best forgotten because I'm one of those dickheads who posts unfinished chapter fics and leaves them for a year

For the chapter karmas of 35 and 36, Kiros unevolved version of his card has the back of Shaw head in it? Does kiro confront shaw or something? I dunno, i havent seen anyone talk about it, im really curious though. Thanku✨

Hello! That silver haired guy you see isn’t Shaw. It’s Anole (disguised as Helios) Zhou Qiluo is confronting. More about him below the screenshot.

At the receiving end of his glare was “Helios”, looking extremely uncomfortable, and even a little panicky.

So... Who is Anole? 

Anole = Zhou Qiluo’s main enemy. He’s introduced sometime in Chapter 29. If you’ve ever watched X-Men/read the X-Men comics, then Anole is like Mystique. He has shapeshifting abilities, and can assume the guise of a person fully, imitating his/her look and voice.

In Chapters 35-36, everyone faces their own demons. While MC is squaring off with Dark!MC, Zhou Qiluo has a final showdown with Anole. He ends up winning, of course, but he doesn’t kill Anole, partially because MC is there. He uses his mind-control powers and makes Anole promise that he’ll never assume the disguise of anyone ever again, and that he won’t ever go near Zhou Qiluo in the future. Then he sends Anole away. (Again, this is rather reminiscent of the scene in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Kayla Silverfox sends William Stryker on his way, to “walk until (his) feet bleed... and keep walking”. )

P.S. Ling Xiao is pretty much MIA in Chapters 35-36. He only appears for ~1-2 parts at the beginning of Chapter 35, and then pops up for a few seconds in Chapter 36. It does make sense that he doesn’t appear much, though, given that he’s recovering from his tussle with Dark!MC.

okay it took me like a full day to get back to this but!! thank you for asking thats so sweet!! and yes i love this username so much <3 since you didnt specify ill just give a mix of things here is what is coming to mind!!

top 5 movies (of the moment)

- the handmaiden (2016) aka the best movie ever love it so much i rewatched it immediately as soon as i finished it and have watched it several times since then (it is heavy and tw for sexual assault and csa if anyone watches i think i can find a more in depth triggers guide if needed) - ladyhawke (1985) an all time fave!! a thief winds up helping two star-crossed lovers in their quest to be reunited. its animal motifs to the extreme its everything and the soundtrack absolutely slaps - the secret of roan inish (1994) one of my favorite movies as a kid. in ireland a young girl goes to live with her grandparents and finds out more about the little island where she was born. there are seals - whale rider (2002) some similarities to the above but still quite different. a young maori girl tries to claim her birthright as chief, in defiance of her very traditional grandfather. this movie is so good i had to stop to cry about it while i was writing this, it hits harder every time i watch it its so so good - suckerpunch (2011) this movie is good i dont care what anyone says its good (a big part of the film is forced institutionalization and pretty heinous medical abuse i can tell you more if you need to know) its interesting visually and thematically and the action scenes are well shot and the costumes are AMAZING

honorable mention for this sideblog is a wuxia movie called shadow (影) that i watched a year ago that was really cool!! it was fairly bloody in a squelchy way just fyi but the cinematography was gorgeous and the ending made me go !!!!!!!

ive posted about this before but Feng Ling Yu Xiu is a wlw donghua about two young teenagers, one a thief and one a powerful martial arts master from an esteemed family. its cute!! i havent finished it but i think the whole thing has aired now. ill probably make another post with more information about it later but its on the same bilibili youtube channel as tgcf (might be members only tho) and some of it is also on wcostream(dot)com. i really like the characters and the art style and i swear only like 10 people watched it lol i would like to spread this agenda if i can

now for another webnovel!! Female General and Eldest Princess!!! again ive posted about this before but i havent finished it either im so sorry women. lin wanyue is a girl whose entire village gets killed by huns so she takes on her twin brother's identity to join to army to get her vengeance. li xian is the (you guessed it) eldest princess of the royal family trying to secure power and safety for herself and her younger brother. they meet. everything i read was really good and im planning to get back to it soon i really enjoyed it i just had a hard time keeping track of some of the characters when it got to the palace intrigue and schemes but its very good

so, like, outside of the obvious implications about what that means for whether or not he survived being thrown in the burial mounds the first time, it could also change the plot a ton?????

assume he knows he can do this, but refrains from using it (at least noticeably) during the sunshot campaign for whatever reason (doesnt want to worry people, doesnt ever need to, was about to when wrh was choking him but jgy killed him in time, etc.). we get all the way to the one month celebration for jin ling’s birth, and instead of walking w wen ning, wei wuxian decides to go by himself by just flying as smoke. this way he can get there faster&as the crow flies, but wn can still be at the burial mounds for protection. he goes straight to koi palace, not having to follow roads or anything, just landing outside and walking in like hes supposed to be there (which, i mean, he Is, but that doesnt stop jgy from internally screaming a bit more than normal).

so, theres like a pre-party time???? like theyre all together, but jin zixuan isnt here so they havent Properly started the event yet. jiang yanli is ecstatic to see wwx, jiang cheng is also thrilled but they have to keep up The Charade so they just kind of like,,,,,, glare at each other while making weird faces. theres a weird vibe happening. lan wangji is relieved and as desperately pining as always, but everyone else thinks hes just j chillin next to lan xichen. wwx is going on and on about how he adores jin ling as he and jyl catch up

jgs and jgy, as well as most folsk present tbh, are def eavesdropping. now theres a few ways this could play out

lwj slides in w “and how is a-yuan?” wwx is like, shocked that lwj cares enough to ask or remember the kid’s name, but he laughs it off and goes “oh, hes doing good. [enter anecdote about him planting the kid, granny&wen qing making him do laundry]” understandably at this point, someone asks who “a-yuan” is, and lwj deadpans “wwx’s son, he birthed him himself.” obviosuly wwx barely manages to say “exactly! lan zhan remembered!” before he dies laughing. everyone else is Wildly confused&concerned

jiang yanli asks how wwx is doing in the burial mounds, and wwx is like, “its much better than it was! the wens and i are trying to grow crops, we’ve succeeded w radishes - i wanted potatoes but wen qing wont let me, you can ask lan zhan, he heard her - and lotuses! uncle four makes some killer alcohol, and most of us arent in a state to be drinking much but thats yet to stop anyone but granny” & etc.

either way, ppl start asking question. most of them are along the lines of “whos old enough for you to call them granny?” or “tHERES A CHILD IN THE BURIAL MOUNDS???????” or “how did you purify so much of the place”. wwx just tells them, in what is miraculously both a laughing and “duh” tone, that “of course theyre all elders and a little kid? the only folks i could save were the ones who hadnt been worked to death and wen ning, who was a Special case? i told yall that?” theres a good bit of disbelief, but lan zhan steps in and agrees and i mean,,,,, whos gonna accuse hanguang-jun of lying????

but before anyone can get any real questions in, jyl jumps in w an Incredibly distressed “how are you feeding&protecting that many ppl if so few can work?” wwx cant lie to her, but he can weasel out of this one bc she looks Disapproving&Concerned and he knows she wont let him get away w it this time, so he answers w a more in-character version of “well, short answer is we’re not. long answer is,,,,, ive been in the burial mounds before, this isnt half as bad as last time, we’ve got things growing now, and we’re just doing what we can”

this cycles the conversation back too, “well how did you get stuff to grow, howd you purify that much land?????” bc the sect leaders dont want to Think About Guilt or something, idk. wwx welcomes the distraction, laughs it off, and goes “who says its purified????”
