i hate when c//a stans double side the relationship to make adora look controlling - or worse, "abusive" - towards catra. that is absolutely not true.

if anything, adora tries her hardest so shadow weaver doesn't hurt catra. in the very first episode, we see adora complimenting catra or giving her credit, despite the fact catra is purposefully showing up late to training (and shockingly /sarcasm, that is not adora's responsibility). adora takes all the responsibility so catra doesn't get hurt, bc both shadow weaver AND catra expect adora to be better. in other terms, adora is meant to be the mediator.

i've been in adora's place (i still am, sadly) and trust me, it's fucking awful. you're always supposed to be better or "perfect", or else it's your fault if everything goes to shambles or if someone gets hurt. when you're parentified like adora, you're meant to be more mature than everyone else involved, even if someone might be older than you or have more experience in adulthood than you.

but even then, as i rewatch adora's scenes with catra, i never saw adora being controlling or outright abusive. she only might seem that way when things are too dire. like when adora "kidnapped" catra in s3, but adora only did that bc the world was literally collapsing and catra refused to go with her. or when adora snapped at catra in s5, but that was bc catra's chip was letting horde prime know their location. other than that, adora seems to respect catra's space most of the time. when she sees catra doesn't want to talk, adora doesn't push it. she leaves catra be. but catra resents adora for not reading her. which is awful, no one should be forced to read you, you have to be honest with ppl bc how else are they going to help you??

adora never deserved to be the mediator, she never deserved to be parentified or to take all the blame for catra's wounds or mistakes. and adora doesn't have to be perfect. she's a person who will mess up too. but just like catra and shadow weaver, the fandom puts adora on such a high pedestal that any wrong step is going to have them lynch her.

When I watched 3x13 for the first time, it went something like this:

-tears forming in my eyes as I watched Ryan die and torturing myself by rewinding it because Nancy saying “daddy” was something I needed to rehear (I remember being so surprised by how upset I was over Ryan’s death-I hadn’t realized how much his character had grown on me)

-I kept rewinding every 15 seconds because I wanted to rewatch Nancy and Ace but then eventually I made myself stop because I told myself I could just rewatch it later and now that they were together there would be more of them in season 4

-SO IMAGINE HOW DEVASTATED I WAS WHEN IT TURNED OUT TO BE A LIE

-I had never felt so emotionally raw after an episode of tv and when I tell you that episode left me in shambles, I am not exaggerating

I feel like there was another scene -- I think it was in one of the movies? Where Hitsugaya and Mayuri seemed to have a weird rivalry thing going on, which cracked me up then, and your post about the bount arc cracks me up now; im gonna have to go and rewatch that episode at least 😂 it's like the anime staff decided these two NEED to beef and I support them for it

Oh gosh, I am RACKING my brain to remember this movie scene. Normally my brain is a steel trap for inconsequential blorbo scenes and I simply forget everything else, but I got nothin'--clearly once we're done with our anime rewatch we'll have to do yet another movie rewatch!

In the meantime, I'm taking this ask as an opportunity to GUSH AT LENGTH about one of my favorite scenes in the entire anime, my second-favorite captain's meeting, a scene that involves stellar moments for Mayuri, Hitsugaya, Kyouraku, AND includes bonus Byakuya????? Made for me.

Top Scenes: That One Meeting Where Mayuri Hates Hitsugaya Specifically For Some and/or No Reason

Okay, to set the stage a little: At some earlier point, Hitsugaya gets put in charge of some kind of Bount operation. This is separate from Renji already having been sent to Karakura, and Rukia also having been sent to Karakura on yet another separate detail.

By "in charge" I mean he delegates this to a slate of officers, which he carefully chose according to the parameters "Matsumoto and whoever was around, I guess": So it's Matsumoto, Yumichika, Hisagi, and Kira. Of these, Yumichika dis-invites himself, and Hisagi and Kira definitely should not have been deployed to the Living World, because they have no captains and definitely have shambles they probably should be unshambling, but whatever.

Through no real fault of the VC’s own and all the fault of "this is not at all the level of response this mission required," the Bounts find their way to Soul Society. The Bounts, who are very efficient, go CLEAR TO KUSAJISHI to foment an uprising.

Matsumoto reports back to Hitsugaya, and Hitsugaya, in the absolute weirdest possible way, recruits Renji to this Bount-finding agenda. (Hisagi and Kira go back home to do some unshambling, I assume.) Lots of very entertaining bullshit happens, Byakuya out-weirds Hitsugaya because heaven forbid he ever be upstaged in that regard, there's a lot of running and very little accomplishing, and the Bounts literally just walk into the Seireitei.

So, in perfect fairness, if Hitsugaya's charge was to keep that from happening, he legitimately did a horrible job and Mayuri's speaking truths here:

It's a true critique, but is it a fair critique? Probably not, because this never should have been just Hitsugaya's job in the first place. That's absurd! But that's also how the Gotei works, so sure, I'll throw my vote in with Mayuri.

Buy why does he bring it up at all?

Not that he's alone in this sentiment, but I feel like Mayuri is the pinnacle of "let's keep this meeting moving so we can all get out of here." He hates all of these people and spending time with them is unstimulating and pointless. From that maybe you'd think he'd constantly be calling out his colleagues' failings, but what does that really do but extend the meeting? So I think it's fascinating (read: hilarious) that he goes out of his way to criticize Hitsugaya here, especially since he does so by comparing Hitsugaya's failure to Soi Fon's success.

Criticizing Hitsugaya is important enough to him that he's willing to implicitly praise Soi Fon in the process!! And even though they're poisonbuds, Mayuri's gotta hate Soi Fon, too. She's too straightforward and down-to-business, and has no curiosity for the sake of curiosity. So his hatred of Hitsugaya here is on some entirely different level here. And for what? The crime of being square?? (Yes.)

I don't think it actually has anything to do with Hitsugaya having failed this Bount task. These guys barely cared the Seireitei got invaded last week; they don't seem to care all that much more now. Plus, Mayuri's already had his fill of Bount shenanigans and is one of the reasons the Bount made it to Soul Society in the first place. He knows this. He knows that this accusation could easily be turned back on him (and it is). BUT IT'S STILL WORTH IT, JUST FOR A SHOT AT PUBLICLY HATING HITSUGAYA.

It's so worth it that the meeting legitimately moves on and Byakuya offers a slate of extremely useful feedback with regard to Kariya's abilities, blah blah.

But Mayuri don't care:

Maybe Mayuri dislikes Hitsugaya because Hitsugaya is the designated "tensai" of the Gotei and Mayuri feels threatened by that, but I don't personally buy that. I've seen people discuss Hitsugaya being a "genius" as a translation for "tensai," and associating the genius with like, MENSA shit or whatever. But "tensai" is more about talent for/potential in some specific thing, not just IQ or book-smarts. I don't think Hitsugaya would particularly excel at labwork in the 12th. I mean, he'd probably be very hirable. But Hitsugaya's actual talent happens to be strong interpersonal skills when it comes to one (1) ice dragon and, concomitantly, being a quick study of developing and controlling large quantities of reiatsu. Which are very impressive but not impressive (or threatening) to Mayuri, because why would he care about any of that? He would not. (I personally think Hitsugaya gets more interesting to Mayuri post-TYBW, because wtf is up with that bankai, but this is the Bount Arc, baybeeeee!)

Idk, I guess I have difficulty believing that Mayuri gives enough of a shit about Hitsugaya to hate him specifically, which is why I find this scene so entertaining. Because he clearly does hate him specifically. It's just that there's no reason here, no set of proofs and measures. HE JUST HATES HIM. XDD And I am very satisfied by this.

Like, I'm 100% on board with the idea that Mayuri hates Hitsugaya specifically because they have to stand next to each other in these meetings, and repeated proximity in the context of meetings Mayuri detests just rubbed off on whatever object happened to be closest, and that object was Hitsugaya. Love it, no notes.

Hitsugaya

Hitsugaya, for his part, doesn't actually disagree with Mayuri's critique:

This is one of the things I really enjoy about Hitsugaya: He tends to be straightforward about his failings, but in a very self-possessed way. He doesn't try to defend himself here, but also isn't self-flagellating about it. He's just like, this is an objective assessment and I'll own that. He's not going to wallow--just take the L and move forward. (Whether this holds for Hinamori/Aizen-related things, ymmv, but that's inescapably personal.)

He's consistent about this through the arc, too--Matsumoto apologies to him for the way the Advance-Advance Team mission went, and he tells her that since he's the one who deployed them, any blame is his, not hers.

But back to this scene: His affect is in diametric opposition to Mayuri's here--Mayuri hyperpersonalizes the critique, but while Hitsugaya might respect Mayuri's talents and intel, but it's not like Mayuri's personal opinions are worth anything to him. Because Mayuri's opinion of him doesn't matter, Hitsugaya doesn't take this personally. He doesn't respond to Mayuri--just to Yamamoto.

I mean, he definitely looks annoyed by Mayuri:

But tbh I think that's more because he finds Mayuri generally irritating, and he--like everyone else at this meeting, EVEN KOMAMURA, YAMAMOTO'S #1 FAN, LOOK AT HIS FACE--doesn't want to be at this meeting any longer than he has to be, not because Mayuri has personally insulted him in any way that matters.

On the other hand, the second bonkers thing about this meeting is that Yamamoto either 1) agrees that Hitsugaya fucked this shit up, and needs to be fired from this project, or 2) has decided that it should not have been relegated to the docket of one single Gotei captain to begin with--but admitting this shows weakness so he cannot.

Whatever the reason, Hitsugaya is relieved of his duties, and this part does perhaps upset him in ways that Mayuri didn't. He's definitely surprised by it.

But after this, he also... doesn't seem to meaningfully change the way he's been working the Bount issue? Because even though Yamamoto says every division is going to work solo, from there on out, Hitsugaya is still somehow in charge of dealing with an attack on the 7th (because Komamura is guarding Yamamoto for some reason); is actively getting intel from/collaborating with Renji and Isane; and at some point is like, "shit, I didn't ever give the 11th any orders" because Zaraki's not around. Even though he is not in charge of any of those divisions or any of those people and explicitly got fired from having to be in that role! And, one assumes, is still vaguely in charge of the 5th because he's been doing their paperwork and Hinamori isn't even mentioned in this arc. Because orders or no orders, SOMEONE's gotta do it.

Kyouraku

Kyouraku spends this whole arc poking Mayuri with a stick, and I'm here for it. I just think Kyouraku always has such an interesting affect--playful, but in an aloof way, and in this case certainly not a loving way. I feel like he definitely interacts with Mayuri the way a much older entity would see Mayuri's whole yappy dog routine here:

I like Kyouraku for a lot of reasons that I won't enumerate in detail here, but he's always very generous toward Hitsugaya, and I have fondness for him for that.

Like, Kyouraku is old as dirt and has seen and done some shit, and Hitsugaya is very much not, and has also seen and done comparatively little. But from the vantage point of his thousands of years, Mayuri and Hitsugaya still come across very differently, and this shows in the way he treats them.

Kyouraku still gets bemused and/or a little jaded-aloof by some of Hitsugaya's life choices (I'm thinking about the scene at the beginning of the reigai arc where Hitsugaya is super mad about Matsumoto failing to report in on time, and Kyouraku and Ukitake are just like "lololol"), but he regularly calls Hitsugaya by his title, even though there is absolutely no reason whatsoever why he would need to, and he steps to Mayuri here. I just think he's neat.

i was tagged by @thenelse to do 8 shows to get to know me better...ok honestly i dont watch a lot of tv. i mostly watch the same shows over and over so i actually could barely list 8. fyi the first 4 are probs my favorite shows but the rest are just shows that have impacted my life in some way. please dont judge me i swear i have good taste in other things 👍

1. yellowjackets obviously because it has literally everything i could ever ask for in a tv show. it irreparably alters my brain chemistry on a weekly basis

2. always sunny in philly. i can always bond with my girl friends’ boyfriends over this one LOL. ive seen every single episode a truly embarrassing number of times and i dream of being randomly thrust into a trivia situation where there is a question about always sunny because i have an obscene amount of knowledge on always sunny lore and am 100% confident i would nail it.

3. arrested development. second only to always sunny in the making lanie laugh category. tobias funke character of all time

4. haunting of hill house. winner of the making lanie cry category. great autumnal watch, i love rewatching around halloween. bent neck lady reveal had me legitimately in shambles

5. i mean the office i guess. i watched it in high school or maybe college,  mostly because my friends were always referencing it and i wanted to get the jokes...and lol i rly thought jim/pam was peak romance. luckily now im older and wiser and know jackieshauna is peak romance

6. back in college i watched all of friends because of a vaguely homoerotic bestie situation that later imploded and the one perk of losing her was that i was finally free to admit that show fucking sucks especially ross fuck that guy fr. me and my friends would have killed ross with hammers i can tell you that much

7. i used to watch bones with my parents when i was probably a little too young to be watching it. perhaps this is the origin of my fascination with morbid things

8. another childhood nostalgia show is monty python’s flying circus which i always watched with my dad. to this day we are capable of annoying everyone else in the room by having an entire conversation made up of monty python quotes (complete with bad fake accents)

I see some people surprised like – I thought it was obvious it was the last season? CW is in shambles and the cast doesn’t want to do it any longer. I see Season 7 being shortened to 13 episodes just like Season 1 to wrap things up. All Roberto needs to do now is preserve any type of rewatchability to ensure long lasting audience (and profits) – which is not exactly what’s happening here with this season and its ratings not reaching 200K.

I thought this was kind of general knowledge? Even if it wasn't, Lili and Cole were certainly out after this season which means I am too...and the fact that it had only one season left was probably the only thing that saved it from cancellation. Now it's all about making s7 classic Riverdale and preserving their future profits.

Hi there! It's been forever, how have you been? I hope everything's fine. I just saw that Legends was cancelled and I'm so so so sad. I can't believe it's gonna end on a cliffhanger! I hate it! No show has brought me as much joy as Legends. It was such a fun show and had such a wonderful cast. Avalance is all I want from a ship and I'm going to miss them so much! I wanted to see baby!Avalance so badly as well. I don't watch Batwoman, but sorry about it too.

it hasn't been great, the past couple of months. adding the cancelation of the fav shows as a cherry on top like no escapism from real life for you.

there is a kind of good side though i guess, for the legends?

apparently the legends cliffhanger was keto "playing chicken" with renewal and you know what? i might actually end up liking the... not the cliffhanger itself, but the open-endedness of it? because there's never a guarantee i would've loved an actual ending to the story, because when they were leaving the waverider (read: home) for just weeks it felt WRONG. so yeah, the adventure never ends this way? i guess i'll take it.

really looking for the bright side here. it might just be one of my favorite shows ever and it had 110 episodes and i got to experience it ongoing. i have to look at it that way to somehow handle it. especially since i worried about cancellation almost every season since s2. i still wasn't ready but yeah.

it's still heartbreaking tho. can't even imagine yet how much i'll miss our silly show. we lucky we had it for so long though <3 and the rewatchability! <333

i'm still in shock tbh. i was SO sure they'll come back and that they're safe... it's honestly a crime losing that show so early! it was so damn good, the writing, the casting, the stories. getting even! better! every! season!

they were honestly the best arrowverse show for 3 seasons. absolutely in shock. they could've EASILY ran for at least 6 seasons :( no way i was expecting that. we JUST got wildmoore too.

with what i said about legends being one of my all time favorites for years, don't get me wrong, but i genuinely would've felt way better if only batwoman stayed. absolutely unforgivable. still in shock over it.

volume 8 spoilers

also i just finished volume 8 and i am in shambles. penny died, the entire rwby team fell into the void but no one knows if they died or not, people who entered the portal (?) are in the middle of nowhere and everyones confused cause they're supposed to be in vacuo (i think). cinder has the relics and everything. can we talk about how she didn't help neo get up either? i mean, its sorta expected, but still! and then she's acting like it was a "tragedy" or that the mission was so hard she couldn't save neo when cinder was reporting to salem.

i don't understand whats happening sorta, i think i sorta understand that ironwood is trying to explode ... mantle? or was it atlas? but either way, i should probably rewatch the whole entire series to understand what happened. i already watched volume 1-6 months ago but overall stopped continuing because of the ads.

im not the type of person who would know if a storyline is good or not-- so i just watch people argue about it in the corner. like, whether or not if the storyline got bad, I'm just here to enjoy! i really like the artstyle improvement too. its crazy cause i was rewatching volume 1 with my friend earlier and then when i got home, i watched the latest episode. it was crazy! but in a positive way though.

Sorry for the late response, but I actually feel the same way in regards to the storyline 😅 Like, I sometimes don't want to sound biased so I just listen to whatever everyone else's opinion is and just go, "Hm, alright." and just take into consideration.

Though, I have gotten a solid grasp on what I like and think should have improvement in terms of things that happened. However, I overall enjoyed this volume and I grow fearful/curious to see what happens in the coming volume.

Along with Team RWBY + Jaune, there are also that small handful of people that fell and I wonder if they'll be around or not. I'm still wondering where they actually are at, especially when Ambrosius gave them the specific warning to not fall. 🤔

In my own opinion, I have this weird feeling that Salem has... Some semblance of sensing bs on Cinder's story of what went on.

The one(s) who never stop searching

I sometimes wonder whether Hanguang Jun grew up with a role model, is there anyone he looks up to, or that just doesn’t exist because LWJ is too busy being admired and respected by pretty much everyone else (apart from his biggest anti-fan Su She).

Of course, he adores his soulmate. BUT, now rewatching the Coffin Town arc, I just really want to write something about LWJ and his admiration for Xiao Xingchen/Song Lan.

LWJ first met XXC and SL in episode 10 when checking out Chang clan’s manor in Yue Yang with WWX and JC. The duo captured Xue Yang there, and introduced themselves to the gang.

‘Xiao Xingchen, the moon in the breeze. Song Zichen, the Gentry despite the frost. Your decency is known to us’. This was probably the longest sentence LWJ said to another human being since the beginning of the series. Even his eyes scream ‘I’m a fan’ and makes WWX turn around in surprise. 

During their later conversation as NHS and JGY arrive, XXC and SL talk about how they’re not interested in bloodlines and just cherish those with same ambitions. LWJ has obviously been listening very carefully, and even actually asks where they cultivate and how others can find them. I mean, since LWJ has not really opened up by that point, it’s truly impressive coming across new characters that manage to generate so much interest from LWJ within a very short time. Let me repeat. he even ASKS PERSONAL QUESTIONS!

His admiration becomes VERY clear just a few minutes after during the farewell scene. It’s probably only the 3rd time LWJ gives us a mellow facial expression since episode 1. He watches on as XXC and SL depart - quite a long look with a mix of emotions: appreciating, pondering, wondering, with a tiny bit of sorrow, somehow. He was clearly in his own world until WWX calls him back down to earth. He then gives his soulmate a soft look before nodding and following the gang. WWX clearly senses that LWJ has something in mind, as they walk, he turns and looks at LWJ.

This is how I interpret LWJ’s thought process in that sequence. As he looks on XXC and SL leaving, it feels like he has a bunch of ‘What if...’ questions in his head. Probably something along the line of ‘Darn, wouldn’t it be nice to just roam the world with your lifelong confidant, protect the weak, exorcise the evil without the burden of playing clan politics? What if I was not restricted by 3,500 rules at Gusu? What if I could actually live a life as in my name WangJi - to not seek fame or wealth, forget about worldly matters, and be at peace with the world?’. As soon as WWX calls him he turns around and.... ‘What if I could live that life with this person?’.

I’m convinced from this point, LWJ already has a vision in his head about going on adventures with his soulmate. We know he eventually got his dream come true from episode 34 onward, but it was a very very long and painful way for him to get there. At the end of episode 35, when filling WWX in about what happened to XXC and SL, LWJ was visibly upset which led him into having himself a drink. Some may argue that his frustration is due to people still shitting on WWX after all these years, or about the injustice related to Jin clan and Xue Yang rather than XXC and SL. I still think that being reminded of the duo’s tragic fate when talking to WWX does have some impact on LWJ’s emotion. 

It was a clear case of extreme clan-related injustice that brought so much pain to the lives of 2 people who are not even attached to any sect whatsoever, 2 people who just purely wanted to protect the world from evil while not taking side. They were simply caught up in the whole major clans corruption shamble, and clearly the last people on earth who deserved to die/gone missing because of the clans’ mess. For someone who has long admired their decency, how would that NOT frustrate LWJ - someone who’s already in a long battle against injustice that screwed over his soulmate’s life?

Fast forward to the end of the Coffin Town arc in episode 39, it’s now revealed that Xue Yang murdered everyone at Snow White Pavilion, turned SL blind and led XXC to give his eyes to SL. As LWJ was searching for WWX, elsewhere, someone else was also looking for their other half. Unfortunately, SL arrived to find XXC being deceived by Xue Yang, and basically all of them ended up with tragic fates. Once all of the misunderstanding is finally clarified, we find WangXian and the junior disciples in front of A Qing’s grave. Once again, WWX notices LWJ being miles away in his own thoughts. He looks up and stares into his soulmate’s beautifully surreal face. It has an odd sense of relief in his vision, mixed with a bit of fear - a ‘close call’ type of fear, like... ‘Something even more awful could have happened’. 

LWJ then mumbles ‘Fortunately...’ to a confused WWX and probably because of censorship, we never get to hear the end of that sentence. Putting in the context of everything that just happened to them, it’s not too difficult to work out that LWJ was acknowledging how extremely lucky he was being able to reunite with WWX safe and sound. Sadly, XXC and SL did not get that chance.

 They then returned to XXC’s coffin to find SL. LWJ looks on, apologetically, as WWX gives SL what’s left of XXC’s spiritual cognition. Just a quick side note, I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME watching SL write in the soil with this sword ‘Roam this world with Frostwork. Exorcise evil beings alongside Xingchen’. 

LWJ then looks up to SL and it feels so strongly that he wanted to say something. He’s been there - he saw his soulmate falling off the cliff. He started to invest most of his time searching for WWX, from appearing whenever chaos was to communicating with spirits asking for WWX’s whereabouts. 16 years of mourning the dead and living with the pain, feeling incomplete and empty without his counterpart. 

LWJ is the only person who can relate to SL. And that’s probably why he knows there’s nothing to be said that could ease the pain. He proceeds to respectfully present SL with XXC’s Frostwork and bow. 

LWJ, with sadness in his eyes,  watches SL walk away, this time without XXC by his side. The scene cuts to WWX thinking to himself ‘I wonder if the two of them would be able to meet each other again’. The same thought must have gone through LWJ’s mind as well. WangXian then exchange a mournful look - if only the camera has stuck around longer for us right here, as I’m sure, this could have been the ‘We should be thankful that we are still standing in front of each other’.

I really appreciate The Untamed crew setting a good 3-episode arc aside to tell the tragic story of XXC/SL/XY the best way they could. It’s also a good idea to change the timeline of certain event so that XXC and SL cross path with WangXian in WWX’s first life, as it lets us see from very early on that LWJ is not just a rigid guy to follow rules all the time. He doesn’t have all the answers to everything in his life just because he reads all the books at Gusu. He does have certain insecurity and curiosity about a different path, now that there’s someone in his life that make it worth considering. It also provides more context to the unfortunate contrary between the fates of WangXian and SongXiao.

If you’re also impressed with this arc as much as I am, I would strongly recommend checking out the novel as it tells us a lot more about SongXiao origin story and how their feud with Xue Yang started. Besides the main couple whom all of us obviously stan, this storyline definitely impressed me the most rather than anything else. I really wish one day Song Lan would succeed in nursing Xiao Xingchen’s spiritual recognition back to wholeness and they would meet again.

I took it that this meant ten so am going with that (tho am not gonna try and put them into order). am also sticking to all the characters I loved this year. and gonna ramble and add gifs so cutting it here. 

1. Liu Sang

The Lost Tomb Reboot/Reunion: The Sound of The Providence

I have so much love for this boy it’s not even healthy. it’s a bit funny tho bc once I started tltr, I didn’t really like him and almost forgot about him as the first season ended. he just felt so annoying and bitter in what I saw him, even if I did get that he had a Tragic BackstoryTM (I felt for him but well. tltr really made him hard to like at first). but then they brought him back in the second season with his sad puppy eyes and inability to handle his thoughts on wu xie and being all touch-starved and pitiful and whatnot and baam, I had the adoption papers ready. he’s wonderful and so strong and so smart and amazing. and liu chang as his actor has been wonderful (and he’s so pretty my god, have you seen him??)

2. Shen Wei

Guardian

never did I expect to just. fall into this hole after a year? I remember what a mess I was when I first watched guardian over a year ago, right after finishing the untamed. I was in shambles even as I knew how it would end. and now I’ve done this all again while also reading the novel and. my love for shen wei, especially bc it’s zhu yilong acting as shen wei? astronomical. I want to write poetry about him and his stupid responsibilities that he chooses to carry silently and his devotion to zhao yunlan and his love for his ppl and his didi and. I hope that one day I manage to write weilan bc I have this one idea and you can come pry it from my cold, dead fingers if it doesn’t get out there (am also super happy about the edit I made bc my god does he deserve at least that)

3. Cloud Strife

ok so stepping into the video games territory now. I was waiting for the remake like crazy and it was everything to me once the quarantine hit during spring. the game is so beautiful and I felt like I looked at this gorgeous boy once and was ready to give him my heart (tbh am quite sure he owned my heart before I even learned to know him). he is tragic in so many ways (I’ve only scratched the surface of all of his pain I know) and I wish I could just. hug him a lot. he is kind and cares very deeply even if he hates to show it and I love it how remake showed him also just being a human disaster (some of his scenes are just. peak comedy). I would kill for his smile (I have already cried for it a dozen)

4. Geralt of Rivia

The Witcher (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)

if there’s one grumpy, brickwall of a man I love, it’s geralt. I affectionately call him “papa wolf” while playing witcher 3 and his voice in it does things to me (I am just so fond of him ok, begone you dirty fuckers). I got introduced to him through the books and adored him in them bc he is so prickly and sarcastic and still so full of love even if he will never admit to it. he is the father figure I wish I could have in real life. (and yes, I’ve seen the tv series (or at least a couple of the first episodes) and it looks stunning but. this is my version of geralt and that’s the hill I will die on)

5. Xiaoge

Zhang Qiling, Daomu Biji (The Lost Tomb 2)

(wow finding a gif for him was a pain, apparently I gotta learn how to gif or?) ah, my dear boy who I’ve ended up just calling xiaoge bc he seems to prefer it over his real name/title/whatever zhang qiling really is. I got introduced to him through tltr where we really didn’t get to know that much about him bc he was just... there. huang junjie was absolutely stunning tho and his soft smiles made me super fond, but only in the lost tomb 2 did I really fall in love with xiaoge as a character. I was surprised tbh bc I didn’t expect it to be this drama? I had so many doubts about the cast in tlt2 but they all delivered! and I think cheng yi’s xiaoge is now my favorite bc he somehow captured that softness and the pain of him? (and we do not talk about that buxun storyline tyvm) tho now that ultimate note is on the way, I gotta say that xiao yuliang does a wonderful job as xiaoge too!

6. Wu Xie

Daomu Biji (Ultimate Note)

(sorry we have to go with a pingxie gif now but maybe it’s only fitting) tbh it’s hard to choose my favorite version of wu xie. I think all of the actors for him have done amazing job showing wu xie in different parts of his life (all of them are very distinct but still feel like the same person) but currently zheng shunxi takes the lead. I really wanted to put the reboot version of him here (bc I love that mature, relaxed and somehow very soft version of him and the angst is phenomenal and the thoughts he has about death... yeah) but I already have zhu yilong’s face here once so :’D wu xie is just one of those characters you cannot not like. he is so strong, so kind, so stubborn, so wonderfully stupid sometimes and in need of careful protection. I also adore it how smart he is and I could listen to him spew history facts for 10 hours straight (even if it was in a tomb full of blood zombies) ♥

7. Jiang Cheng

my darling boy! my beautiful angry grape! I love him beyond words. I love him in all of his raging, misunderstood, stupid, sassy, constipated, abused, tragic, bitter, big hearted glory. I could write novels about him (and I did and am still writing oh boy) and his love for ppl and his inability to show that love and his loneliness and his issues. I could also write another novel for all of his outfits etc. bc damn, what a fashion king. he is just so great. he owns my soul. he deserves happiness and in this essay I will

8. Isana Yashiro

Adolf K. Weismann, K Project

I rewatched k project this spring bc a) it’s one of my favorite animes ever (it just looks stunning with all the colors) and b) I love yashiro to bits. I remember falling in love with him when I first watched k project many years ago bc he was just so kind and bright. this time though, I ended up seeing another side of him and my god did I cry. he is... so sweet. he cares for others so deeply and is ready to sacrifice so much for them and his love for his two clansmen... yeah. I think I finally saw the tragedy of him too, all the pain and loneliness and insecurity he decides to hide behind his smile and obnoxious personality. he reminded me a lot of myself and watching him made my heart bleed in a good way

9. Qi Tiezui

Ba Ye, The Mystic Nine

(wow am going to riot for the lack of all the gifs hhh) yes, we’re continuing with the dmbj universe that sucked me in big time this year. the drama of the mystic nine wasn’t probably that earth shattering for me as it somehow got boring more than once but I did love ba ye to bits. he was just... so nice? I got it that he was somehow this “comedic relief” in the drama with all of his funny scenes and ridiculous mannerisms but I could see the brilliance of him. he is warm and smart and kind of a romantic too and he cares for all of his friends so deeply? it was also sweet how protective of him his two zhangs were (does that run in the family? the tendency to imprint into one smart but disastrous man and keep him safe? maybe) and I really hope I knew more about him bc he seemed to have a lot of knowledge and a lot of impact to ppl’s lives (I yelled when they mentioned him in ultimate note, I miss him ;;)

10. Dorian Pavus

Dragon Age Inquisition

(yes I’ve been replaying DA:I this year, this counts!) another darling boy! my lovely sass master son! I have so much love for him and his story in DA:I. he is my favorite companion (and his romance is my favorite too, probably obvious in the way am currently romancing him for the third time) and he has given me a lot of strength. the way he stands up against his father, how he’s ready to reform his homeland instead of walking away, how he’s so caring for those he sees struggling... it’s very warming and I feel like I’m safe with him. it feels a bit silly to say that but he really is that comfort character I will seek out when I just want to know am doing fine :’) (and I am so excited to see him again in DA4! probably?)

Tomb of the Sea

yes I cheated a bit (with my own rules lol) to fit li cu here. I didn’t really expect to like him or tomb of the sea as much as I did once I started it? I’ve seen leo wu elsewhere before this (battle through the heavens, nirvana in fire) and his face always makes me think about a sad puppy so maybe I just grew fond over li cu instantly bc he was... so hurt? the first episode really slaps you in the face with all of it, showing him being abused, wounded, kidnapped, tortured, used and then just very, very scared and broken. he continues being that throughout the whole drama and I feel like tomb of the sea (or sand sea or sha hai idk) is the darkest and angstiest story in the dmbj universe. I know it deserves to be bc this is a dark time for wu xie but... my darling li cu. I wish him only happiness ;; he was so strong and smart and wonderful in this and it was just so amazing to watch him grow and find his own place in the world just bc he did something himself (even when he got dragged into all of this bc of wu xie) also I support the wu xie adopts li cu -agenda

So I had to rewatch this episode. The first viewing I did while assembling Tau 40k models. An activity which I am new to and terrible at, which led to me being totally distracted and reaching the end of the episode and realizing I had no idea what happened. And that’s what I get for betraying my chosen tabletop hobby. I kid of course, play all the games ya want. Just be sure to multitask responsibly.

Final Fantasy 7 Icicle Spears Reaper Miniatures Wall of Ice

Sort of a novel use of this spell effect miniature. I included one of these in a campaign once, and I used it as... get this, a crystal! Just a stationary, regular ol’ crystal that definitely did not shamble around and suck out people’s life energy.

The Reaper Miniatures Wall of Ice model reminds me of StarCraft minerals, but maybe that’s just because I used it alongside StarCraft: The Board Game mineral game pieces. In any case, neat model. Very neat implementation. Really establishes the unique and alien nature of the magic in these ruins. 

Black Pudding Monster Menagerie 2 #025 Black Pudding

Pudding eh? I wish we had more monster names related to food. I’m talkin’ Lamia Lasagna, Displacer Feast Beast, Gelatinous Kielbasa. Anyway, this here pudding is a simple and functional model. The design is basic, but the organic sculpt and plastic shine make for a good ooze monster. Complete with a space to place engulfed PCs.

Three eagles, what is this, Disney’s The Three Caballeros? Am I right folks? How ‘bout that for a timely fowl reference? The Giant Eagle miniature has been around for awhile, the Vrock Demon appeared as an enemy in the cathedral combat, and the Androsphinx is a model new to CR.

A wise guy eh? Wise guy in the sense that androsphinxes are guys according to lore and sphinxes across the spectrum are wise. Sort of a boring flying pose, basically looks like he’s walking on air. The casting detail seems good and I dig the wing paint work.

Closing Thoughts

I thought for sure Veth was done for. Thank you whoever designed the feather fall spell. Saved her life and gave us a delightfully zainy encounter.

Ultimate Aqua Teen Hunger Force Body Horror Masterlist

ATHF was on just before the age of streaming, so a lot of my memories of the show are fragmented half-truths from bleary-eyed 3 AM viewing sessions. Upon a disorganized loose rewatch of the series I’ve discovered that is just as bizarre and disturbing as my sleep-deprived memories recalled, so I’ve made a fun little list of all the most disgusting and vile things this beloved cratoon enticed me to suffer through. 

TONIGHT!

Fry Legs

In an attempt to woo a computer repair technician he’s stalking, Frylock liquefies her boyfriend in public. He then poorly reassembles his corpse and tapes his brain into the shambling monstrosity, assuming his identity in order to marry the technician. As he’s proposing, his legs snap off like dry twigs and Cary Mean’s howl of pain is genuinely upsetting, as is the bluebird picking at his exposed brain, and the chilling implication at the end that Frylock is now permanently trapped in this decaying body. Great work all around. Also, the technician lady is revealed to be a C.H.U.D. who has sex with animals.

Hypno-Germ

Shake sits on a gas station toilet seat in New Joisey and is infected with the eponymous Hypnogerms. To be fair, this is more psychological than body horror, with Shake’s life slowly being overtaken by a persistent fantasy world primarily populated with talking file cabinets who slip him psychic commands to do things like “lock yourself in a cold, dark room”, “smear yourself with garbage and try to cross the freeway” and “eat your own dung”. Also, at the end of the episode Shake farts via his eyes. 

Antenna

ATHF predicts 5G: The Episode. Aliens install a massive satellite tower above Carl’s house. It replaces any TV or phone signals with a monotonous video of two aliens passing a cardboard box back and forth, which also causes torrential nosebleeds and swelling of the cranium/eyes. Special Guest Star Voice Over Artist George Lowe.

She Creature

Carl’s pool has turned stagnant with neglect, breeding hundreds of mosquitoes as well as some huge, unidentifiable creature. Carl lets the mob use it to dispose of bodies to help alleviate his debt with them, but ultimately the Aqua Teens “help” him chlorinate his pool and install a filter. The creature is revealed to be a beautiful mermaid, who offers to give Carl an “indescribable pleasure” for 30 bucks, 50 if the Aqua Teens watch. After she swims into his penis, Carl then explodes in a torrent of eggs, as does Frylock, Meatwad, but not Shake. Not even the sea monster wanted to fuck Shake.

Piranha Germs 

This one is pretty repulsive, even for me. Shake gets a job as a “viral marketer” from a floating severed head, who assigns him tasks such as eating raw ground beef with a fork from off the ground, or dipping his hands in unpasteurized milk and squeezing raw chicken before walking around a conference hall shaking hands/giving high fives with as many people as possible. Shake eventually contracts a disease that literally devours him at the cellular level, slowly disintegrating his body. The head takes Shake to the company health care provider (another floating head) who has Shake inject himself with more of the virus. Eventually Frylock takes action, hooking Shake up to a machine that “boils and bleaches the blood”, an agonizing process that lasts at least 3 days straight. That over with, Frylock tells a bloated Shake that his blood has been replaced with a highly explosive substance and promptly freezes him. A really unpleasant experience to watch overall, which makes for an excellent ATHF episode. It’s marred somewhat by the fact that its ending is essentially just a less-funny rehash of the next featured episode, and one of ATHF’s best...

The Clowning

I feel like the image above should be all you need to know about The Clowning. Carl gets a wig infected by an alien clown disease. ATHF’s writers seem to have something of a predilection towards horrible viruses, and I gotta say that Carl-centric episodes are always my favourite. He’s just such a delightfully crass and obnoxious character, the writers and animators seem to find such joy in coming up with these nightmarish fates for him. Anyway with Carl fully clownified, Frylock freezes him in the hopes of someday developing a cure. Cut to many years later with the Aqua Teens elderly and senile in a zombie apocalypse, with Clown Carl still frozen, used as a coat rack. Then he falls over and shatters.

Total Re-Carl

And here we are at the logical conclusion of this exercise, the single best episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force ever made, the one that scarred me as a teen, and the one that inspired this list in the first place.

I really love that Carl begins the episode trying to avoid talking to Frylock, to the point where he turns his lights off and hides behind the couch muttering “Go away, dammit. Just go away.” It’s like he knows what’s coming for him. He just wants to sit around drinking beer and watching porno, but these horrible talking foodmin keep ruining his life. He’s trying so desperately to have some peace, which makes what happens to him in this episode that much more horrifying and hilarious. 

Frylock breaks into Carl’s house and talks him into coming out to try his new jet engine powered vacuum toilet (that, of course, is sitting on Carl’s lawn in plain sight, although Frylock assures Carl he has built a state-of-the-art invisibility curtain for privacy (a Lie)), and provides him with a care package of fiber tablets, espresso beans, and other laxatives. 

After surreptitiously locking Carl out of his house, Frylock and Meatwad watch from a distance as Carl is forced to try out the new toilet and is immediately and violently sucked into the toilet bowl, his body ejected out the back as a red mist, only his head left unmulched. Frylock hooks up Carl’s head to his computer to keep him alive and to translate his brain output to text, and the little flash of dialogue we see on the screen makes me laugh every time:

The Aqua Teens then fail several times to find a replacement for Carl’s body. The first is the corpse of an elderly black man whose body immediately “rejects the head transplant” and begins savagely attempting to rip Carl off his shoulders. 

The next try is easily the worst mental image I have ever experienced on syndicated television, and while I love this episode I’m thankful for the simple artstyle and the relative restraint they showed compared to later as far as gore goes. 

Frylock tells Shake to order some body parts from online, but Shake buys from “we-got-us-some-medical-waste.com” and receives a soggy cardboard box filled entirely with loose eyeballs. Carl wakes to find his head attached a Heaping Golem of Eyes, which honestly sounds like a Bloodborne enemy 12 years ahead of its time. At Frylock’s behest, he takes a step forward to try out his new “legs” and Dave Willis’s voice acting for this scene still scares the shit out of me, if I’m being honest. Those screams are every bit as excruciating as I would expect for someone whose feet are made from dozens of lidless corneas. 

The third and final replacement is a gleaming exoskeleton of weaponized powerarmour, which they quickly realize is a terrible idea seeing as how he just tried to murder Frylock with this eye arms. They end up putting his severed head on a RC car while Meatwad obliterates Shake with the exoskeleton.

anime I’ve been watching recently

Oh hey, I’m alive. Sorta? Between work being overwhelming and my schedule being kind of out of whack my energy to do anything in my off time, other than staring at the screen, has been at an all-time low... so low I can’t even throw words on the screen to make some posts.

But hey, I’ve still been staring at the screen, and I do have some opinions that I really need to get out of my system. So, this is the stuff I’ve been watching in the past months:

Listeners: No screenshot for this one because I don’t have any lying around anymore, but anyway, yeah, this was fun? Sure, the ending was stupid and didn’t make any sense, but then again, I wasn’t watching this show for the story, or with any expectations of it being “great” or “worthy” or whatever. It was a fun way of turning off my brain for half an hour every week, and I really enjoyed the music references which were much better-informed/researched and executed than in most anime or manga (where they usually just throw the reference in your face and be like “get it? huh? getit??? aren’t we smart?? you should feel smart, too!”). So what if it ended with “Uh, we actually never planned this far, let’s just do every mech anime ending ever”, the journey was worth it.

Nami yo kiitekure: No screenshot for this one either. Nami yo kiitekure was... meh? It started out well, with Minare being a fun and relatable lead, but then it kind of... stalled. And to be honest I got really annoyed with all the shouting. I don’t mind shouty comedy at all (some of my favorite anime comedies are like that) but here the pacing didn’t really work. And I never got the appeal of the live radio segments either (even though I do actually listen to a lot of radio!), perhaps because the seiyuu was just hamming it up instead of delivering a convincing performance, which I kind of expected to be the point. Anyway, I dropped this halfway through. Nothing technically wrong with it, but it’s not my cup of tea.

The Great Pretender: I actually wrote about this previously, and I haven’t seen any new episodes since then. Are they already out? :O What’s going on with this show’s release schedule?

Appare-Ranman: Oh, this is back! And I... don’t really like it as much as I did the first 3 episodes? I dunno, in the recent episodes it kind of lost its swagger and instead settled comfortably into that “Show That Could Have Been On Adult Swim In When American Anime Fans In Their 30s Were Watching That” routine that has been so prevalent in the recent Netflix-backed shows that I seriously believe it’s on purpose, to emulate popular shows in the US and appeal to viewer nostalgia. And this means that to me the show has become kind of... boring, really. Like, again, there’s nothing actually wrong with it, it’s by far the best of PA Works’ attempts at trying new things, and I am still watching it and derive enjoyment from it. But I don’t find it particularly interesting, it’s just going through the motions without adding anything exciting, visually, story-wise or character-wise. Like come on, it’s The Year of Our Lord 2020, do something new or interesting! Like for example...

Deca-Dence: Oh yes. See, when the first episode came out and people were raving and doing the “anime is saved!” thing, I was like “...huh? but this was like every damn fantasy adventure anime ever.” I mean it looked nice, sounded nice, but it was soooo derivative and boring. And then the second episode rolled around and I was like “OK, now you’ve got my attention! :D” and my attention has stayed with the show ever since. See, here’s the difference between this and say, Appare-Ranman: it’s not that Deca-Dence is doing anything revolutionary either, but it’s at least doing something instead of just following a template. Its ambitions don’t stop with having cool visuals and cute character designs. 

And another plus for Deca-Dence vs Appare-Ranman: the female characters in Deca-Dence don’t have that stupid PAW “cute anime girl” permablush. God that’s so annoying.

Gibiate: And on topic of shows trying for a retro appeal... yeah. There’s this one. You know those snobbish anime fans who always bemoan the decline of anime, and talk about how back in their time anime as such was better? Yeah, you can tell those people have had a very curated experience of anime “back in the days”, because back in the days, in our case in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, “anime as such” was actually more like this one. Really, Gibiate feels like it’s a zombie of some early ‘90s action show resurrected for some weird experiment, and now it just kind of shambles along aimlessly, not knowing what it’s doing in the present or how it should handle the changes of time. It’s kind of embarrassing, really... well, it was for the three episodes I watched. I dropped it out of secondhand embarrassment, more than anything.

GITS:SAC 2045: Oh yes, there’s this one as well. As I predicted, it was crap. It kind of feels like the creators were contracted to do a new series, but they had no actual ideas for a GITS:SAC sequel, nor any inspiration, and also nothing particular they wanted to say with the new show. Hell, apparently they didn’t rewatch GITS:SAC to refresh their memories of the show they were ostensibly trying to create a sequel for. OK, Imma rant about this a bit (copy-pasting something I wrote elsewhere).

1. The visuals are shit. Look, I'm not biased against CG, a lot of shows I enjoy have CG, a lot of them have bad CG. I tend not to care a lot about animation quality be it amazing or crap, as long as I enjoy the rest of the show. But this show looks like shit. The characters are rubber dolls floating in virtual space, physical character interaction is distracting, and all the action is hilaribad. Character animation is fucked up so often, like, they tried to give the Major a sexy hip sway but the result has her walking like she has a stick shoved up her butt. Hell, often they couldn’t even animate lip flaps properly, which doesn’t make the soulless masks the characters have for faces any more expressive. Also, character design-wise, the Major sticks out like a sore thumb, looking like a Sexy Dollfie among all the semi-realistic character designs. It’s kinda offensive, really. 2. Again, I could have lived with the visuals, if the rest of the show was any good. But it's not. With the exception of that one episode with the bank robbery, that was good and felt like real GITS:SAC, this is like someone's subpar fanfic, which is sad considering the writers behind the show. Characterization is weird and fucked up and doesn’t follow SAC. The worldbuilding went from the rather well thought out backdrop of SAC to a mess of ~edgy~ concepts mixed without any particular depth given to them. "Sustainable war!!! Thinkpol!!! 1984!!!!!" 3. The concept of post-humans is such a huge missed opportunity. Paired with the whole "ThinkPol" thing (as eyeroll-inducing as that is) there was a pretty good chance there to explore the dehumanizing aspect of the internet, and tie it into the "anon vigilante crowds" thing the story seems to be trying to get going. But nope, they just went with the stupidest routes. Also, the whole idea of "post-humans" doesn't flow organically from the worldbuilding of SAC, it just feels like something they came up with because they had to do something new. It also kinda feels like someone watched Darker Than Black one too many times.

So yeah, so, so disappointing. I’ll be watching S2 when it comes along because eh, more GITS, but I’m not gonna pretend this is anything but a subpar attempt to cash in on the franchise.

get ready cause this is like the only thing i will very much despise and if someones been my friends for years they know who i am talking about because eventually, i will rant about it when i recall how much i hate what happened in the series. This is purely for me.

Berry. From tokyo fucking mew mew a la mode spin off. This is a spin off manga from the manga/anime Tokyo mew mew, and i will set something straight, this is purely from spite and pettiness from formative years that ive just let be my only source of genuine disdain regarding a media work i liked for just such silly reasons but now i get to talk about it and pour my salt! 

Okay so, imagine youre like a young preteen or whatever, you had a anime you liked watching in just passing cause you never paid attention to TV schedules so you never knew what was on ever, ofc you found the 4kids dubbed anime considering it was early 00s and your sister had the computer more than you could, but finally youre older, you get more computer time cause your sister has her own by now and you can read fanfiction and look at fanart of a series you liked, even, gasp, rewatching the anime and this time with subs and realizing a lot of things were different [along with watching episodes in 5 different parts on youtube and struggling to find them all to make a complete episode]

You keep encountering a character or two in fanfictions, youve never heard of them, berry? who? Ringu who? You look them up and more so just find sparse images cause what was wikis back then? you think i actually looked things up like that? The logical conclusion for me was, these are just popular fan characters [Again mind you, this is even before the english release was in 2013, like there was even less Berry art and so fanart i saw of her w the cast was like ‘oh someones self insert’] 

And of course, Tokyo Mew Mew, not the most widely known and definitely didn’t have a very….mature audience for English speakers. So of course the fanfics were quite honestly, shit, amateur garbage of angsty preteens wanting to be angsty teens and edgy and the worst part, having the designated bitch mean girl to ruin the protagonist of the stories life so they can write their revenge porn. So guess who that girl was. Berry. So shes already at a huge disadvantage of me liking her, already thinking shes just a popular fan character to hate on and what not because people liked the main cast too much to actually make one of them the antagonists of the fanfic

Now for me totally digging into the fucking series itself, i still havent read knowing i will just not have a good time because ill be like this is booooooooring i want my old cast back. So instead of reading it, i wikied it and the characters and ngl ive done this multiple times, still refreshes how much i dont like it 

The problem with berry:

1. Berry is the protagonist of a continuation of the tokyo mew mew franchise, which okay but the bad part is, this isn’t like just new characters in a familiar scenario but now just in a different place too. Majority of the cast is cast from the main story 

2. Berry just literally waltzed into the place, got zapped by the machine that gave the mews their powers but UH OOHHH she got TWO animal genes in her now Shes a rabbit AND a C A T [like ichigo! but a DIFFERENT cat], instead of the usual one. SO SPECIAL, SO UNIQUE. And she gets to be LEADER of the mews, this fucking ROOKIE. Not to mention, like the regular cast from the first mews are there, you know the girls that had a couple years to get shit on lock and know what theyre doing. and you think Mint and Zakuro at the least would even let some new Rookie would come in and just take leadership role? I dont fucking think so. The worst part is, Ichigo comes back in the story, and doesn’t take back leadership, like thats the most self insert shit this whole girls just been a huge culmination of all the shit thatd make a character mary sue in the early 00s of a fan character. It blows my mind this is a actual legit canon character. I dont give a shit if people out there making “mary sues” get out of my face, people have fun. Its the fact This Is A Canon Protagonist of a spin off, with the old cast

3. WHY THE FUCK IS HER NAME BERRY AND SHES CREAM COLORED. I do not get it, it doesn’t follow the themeing at all, and frankly, the only other new mew in the series is this girl Ringu, who despite having penguin DNA doesnt have a single fucking animal thing about her like cowards and her outfit looks more like her name [apple] and not even trying to give her tuxedo look if you ARENT GOING TO MAKE RINGU THE PENGUIN HAVE ANYTHING PHYSICALLY PENGUIN YOU COWARDS. Its a shit design. no ifs ands or buts. i hate it.

4. This one doesn’t deal with berry but with the series because appearently despite the original mechanics of making things mutate basically. THE ALIENS ARENT EVEN THE MAIN BAD GUYS NOR ARE THEY REALLY IN THE STORY. THE ANTAGONISTS ARE JUST SOME RICH WHITE BASTARD KIDS WHO THINK THE WORLDS BORING. THATS NOT INTERESTING. ALIENS TRYING TO TAKE THE EARTH BACK [they left after a series of disasters that almost led to their extinction] AFTER LEAVING BECAUSE THEIR NEW PLANET IS IN SHAMBLES AND THEYRE BARELY SURVIVING AND THEY FEEL THE HUMANS ARE JUST DESTROYING THE EARTH [it was basically like any other 90s cartoon about planet health ngl] IS MORE COMPELLING AND INTERESTING THAN THIS SHIT. 

To sum up, i hate berry so much because of how i was 1. introduced to her 2. learned more about her 3. her looks and naming that dont even fucking align with ANYONE in the damn series. Seriously why is a rabbit/cat girl thats white colored not even called Creme or something ?? why the fuck is her name berries…….. 4. who the fuck lets a rookie be leader 5. I hate when series try to make a new side thing but basically take all the old characters to come back and only slap in like a few new characters like i didnt want this, esp if youre not changing up the original dynamic of the characters, Not Mint or Zakuro or even a shocker like Lettuce or Pudding steps up to try and be leader while Ichigo is off w her BF for school stuff. No you make a rookie whos ‘very special’ be the new leader and then another new bih cause well, guess you cant just put in ONE new mew and only have new antagonists 6. if youre doing a spin off/continuation you either give us the cast in a new setting and change up a few things to we can explore new dynamics OR give us basically a WHOLE new cast to see how they fall into place and hell even be foils for old cast to compare and see how different or similar things are
