Dub thoughts

I have thoughts on Hazbin Hotel, but for now I will focus on the Dub situation. I hate my friend for pointing out that Angel Dust shares a German VA with Timmy Turner (from Fairly Odd Parents). Because it is so cursed.

In addition: The usage of German "formal you" will always kick specifically, especially when Alastor adresses Lucifer with a "formal you" meant for strangers, but he does not use the formalities (or the formal you) reserved for royalty/rulers/monarchs/rulers.

On the one side it implies a lack of respect, but at the same time it shows he is actively distancing and technically still respectful, and putting Lucifer down at the same time which is hilarious.

Also the profanities, swearing and insults hit better for me in German dialog, especially some of the terrible sex jokes. Also just... the passive aggressiveness is fantastically delivered. I think German Dub is very solid, songs are probably gonna be hit and miss for many folks, but I am happy they got dubbed

It’s always funny when anglo writers looking to express a specific idea casually pluck a cool ready-made monosyllabic phrase from their language’s unlimited supply and Romance language translators just curl up in the fœtal position and cry. I'm reading a text in which the American author talks about ‘Haves’ vs ‘Have-Nots’ vs ‘Have-Mosts’ —the poor French translator translated this as ‘ceux-qui-ont’ (the French language: don’t worry I’m just getting warmed up), ‘ceux-qui-n’ont-pas’ (nice we’ve doubled the syllable count but we mustn’t falter), and the beautiful ‘ceux-qui-ont-plus-que-tous-les-autres’ (300% expansion ratio let’s gooo! we did it great work everybody.) From 2 to 8 syllables—the minute I saw that bulky thing I knew it had to be Have-Mosts in the original and I was giggling. The anglo author happily proceeds to use the phrase ‘Have-Mosts’ 5 times per paragraph because why not! it’s so quick and wieldy :) we don’t actually need the word wieldy 'cause it’s just the normal state of our language <3 meanwhile you can feel the French translator’s desperation grow as she is reduced to juggling with “those” and “the latter” to avoid summoning her creature. Eventually she reaches the acceptance stage and uses ceux-qui-ont-plus-que-tous-les-autres again like, it’s my monster. I shouldn’t reject it

I got curious about the difference between the English dub and original Japanese voice acting...

#gregory horror show #judgement boy #ghs #I need to watch through more of the Japanese version but most of the characters I've heard appear to match pretty well?#Gregory's voice is quite a bit deeper in the Japanese version but it is a fitting voice! Very jarring to hear but I feel most fans #have already heard it during Gallery Tour!#JB appears in Gallery Tour briefly but not long enough for me to appreciate the difference.#Inko is so high pitched...#I really wonder what differences there are in dialogue between original and dub... but there doesn't seem to be a subtitled version #(which makes sense!)#It would be interesting to see if there is anything that could've been translated differently or if the dub is mostly accurate.#I will likely see nothing of the sort though. As many joys as there are in weird obscure things from 1999... there are sadnesses as well.

can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest

like he cares for his loved ones!!!! that literally plays into his character motives in every single part he shows up in!!! stop lying to me!!!!!!!

#kiki.txt #jjba #i'm going to ramble in tags actually. excuse me #ok. rereading sdc and so confused at the general perception of jotaro and his friends/family. he's not NEARLY as flat or as dickish #i understand that the anime (particularly the dub) tends to slander him but even then he still clearly cares for them! i'm confused #i also understand that a lot of people dig against jotaro and kakyoin as a dynamic because 'they're popular' and that generally disliking #popular things across media is a thing that i've seen consistently everywhere but the discredit to them simply as a DUO and not even as a #pairing is so..... odd..... like they're considered to be a duo that clicks for a reason. i enjoyed them even before i got into the fandom #every time i see someone say jotaro is overrated/dull i take a shot and assume they're an anime-only or only read the manga like once btw #joseph and jotaro also have a neat dynamic and they obviously both love and care for each other. like they're not going to go around loudly #or anything but literally the entirety of the lovers and the prelude to the dio fight IS jotaro being worked up over joseph getting hurt #equally i don't know if it translates to the anime as much but joseph is VERY complimentary when it comes to jotaro. like he sings his #praises so often and reminds everyone that he's his grandson so frequently (d'arby the gamer is a good example of this). either way it's so #peculiar....... there's not enough avdol and jotaro content btw (also in canon) because jotaro obviously looks up to him and avdol jokes #around with him on the occasion they interact after their intro which doesn't start very well. it's very cute #i do think an important thing to note about jotaro's character is how he acts AFTER his intro because he's so drastically different. early #jotaro and later jotaro aren't the same character and i do not mean this in a character development way. excluding the jail incident he's #completely different and probably shouldn't really be taken into account (especially considering the amount of slapstick in araki's intros)#and i think that's really???? what people center on for his character? Which sucks balls bad!#anyways. i could ramble more about this if asked i have so much to say but sigh. jotaro cares so much for his friends and family he's not a #flat fully cold asshole character regardless of whether you watch the anime or ova or read the manga. you just have poor media literacy #i wouldn't recommend watching solely the anime for his character though. the dub also changes a lot so it's... questionable #i love the anime and it's still important for him though. also adds neat stuff. i need to stop myself. i have many thoughts on the matter #jotaro kujo #joseph joestar #noriaki kakyoin #adding in case anyone sees: i am not saying that he is perfect about this. in fact he is very ass about it with jolyne and holly and that's #very important. he also is in fact an asshole sometimes. why is no one talking about the fact that in polish dub Wade on their first meeting straight up asks him out for a date?

Been watching through Link Click with my brother for Sibling Anime Night and, as this is my second watch, there are all these little details that are just driving me crazy. I have to remember not to say a darn thing because he doesn't know yet, but geez. They put some thought into this. They knew what they were doing.

Here are a few:

Qiao Ling telling Cheng Xiaoshi that Lu Guang is way more mature than him despite being the younger of the two.

Near the end of the first episode (in the sub), Lu Guang very insistently tells Cheng Xiaoshi to never ask about the future.

In the Noodle Lesbians episode, Cheng Xiaoshi telling Lu Guang, "Just because you don't see a glimmer of hope doesn't mean it's not hiding somewhere," and Lu Guang's expression fading into this soft smile as he chuckles, as if he's thinking, "It's just like you to say something like that."

In the basketball episode, how jealous Lu Guang sounds when Cheng Xiaoshi high-fives someone else.

When Cheng Xiaoshi runs out to start warning people about the earthquake, Lu Guang gritting his teeth and shouting, "You can't save them. They are already dead!" And then hurriedly lecturing Cheng Xiaoshi on how much of a fixed point death is no matter how much you might want to change it. "No matter how hard this is, you can't alter their fates!"

Lu Guang: "The future that we now know could completely disappear." (dub) "It could even cause the disappearance of the life we have now." (sub)

In the Aunt May arc, the three superheroes that our main three dress up as being the Star of Justice, Bringing Hope (Cheng Xiaoshi), Star of Courage, Conquering Fear (Lu Guang), and Star of Wisdom, Lighting the Way (sub)/Serving Knowledge (dub) (Qiao Ling). Gods, I could write an essay just on that.

I just... I just wanna grab some of these characters and shake them. Maybe slap them a few times. Why they gotta be like this?

I was reading DunMeshi and was so confused by this phrase that I decided to look it up

(Do correct me if you think this isn’t accurate cuz I just used google)

But I find it frankly hilarious that Chilchuck is using slang from various parts of the British Isles out of nowhere in the last volume??

(I’ve now had someone explain to me that apparently it’s not uncommon for certain uncommon types of informal Japanese to be translated as slang from specific areas, typically around Britain, in English)

First of all I’d alr seen people jokingly headcanoning him as Irish on here (which was an idea I absolutely love)

ALSO I come from a part of the UK where I’m very familiar with the term ‘git’ but had never heard of a version with an e and I also had no idea it meant the same as ‘bastard’

(I have considered that this could just be the regular meaning of the word ‘get’ but I thought it wouldn’t grammatically make sense here so I assumed it was slang esp cuz he would totally call someone a git)

Anyways I’ve checked other translations and it’s not the same so I find it so funny that this one (which I’m pretty sure is the official English translation) included it

I combined footage from my Detektiv Conan Blu-ray with audio from my Case Closed FUNimation DVD and made an HD English dub clip compilation for Episodes 57-58, "The Holmes Freak Murder Case."

As you may have heard already, the sfx and voice effects for P were done by a native Korean voice actor and not Joe Pitts like I previously believed. He is credited as Seok Seunghoon under Development Support in the game's end credits and also provided sfx for The Parade Master, Magician puppet, and additional enemies.

They shared some really interesting notes in their instagram post! Instagram has a built-in translator, but it's a little confusing. I'm thinking of adding the translation in a separate post later.

His online portfolio is up here and he also provided the korean dubbed voice for the antagonist Jack Horner in the recent Dreamworks animation Puss and Boots 2 [I think he's signed with KBS]. Really cool hearing him both sounding very closely to John Mulaney, dubbing in another language, and performing the role!

But I think this one from the demo reel is probably my favourite. lol

I really hope he can stay with the franchise in some capacity. I enjoy that kind of casting continuity.

[By "native" I mean that the game's english voice work, dialogue editorial, and casting were outsourced to Liquid Violet Studios in the UK, and it seems like Seok Seunghoon was a domestic hire and worked directly with NEOWIZ.]
