Loving your D&D stuff.
thank you! however you are going to get a long answer because you have opened an opportunity for me to list things, which is my favorite
very few of the campaigns I'm in / have latched on to that my friends play are actually in D&D any more, for various reasons (primarily 1. WOTC sucks, 2. the system is not really designed for the kind of thing we like the most, which is "impactful character choices," and 3. "why play skyrim as a farming sim"). The games I've been a full player in are, aside from 5e:
Eberron / An Airship Is A Horse That Loves You is in Pathfinder 2e! We started in D&D 5e, which is why there are some semi-homebrewed imports, but it's a very similar system to 5e in gameplay PLUS Pathbuilder is a desktop and app program that will automatically put together character sheets for you, which is arguably the worst part of 5e. It's great, and I highly recommend considering it as an alternative to 5e if you're wanting something that still has the combat rolls and everything but also has more innate design for doing shit as a character. ALSO also there's a ton of included assistive devices, which range from normal stuff like wheelchairs and hearing aids to specifically magical stuff like my favorite: a wheelchair that has legs and can kill. Derien is my PC in this one, fresh out of the oven.
The only other actually active PC status I have had in this group was in an Eyes On The Prize oneshot! EOTP is a fake-marriage game (made by @iraprince !) with flexible setting / character guidelines that's played with a deck of cards, and I highly recommend it for shenanigans. My character was Moonlight Saidluck, a bug centaur fae who accidentally let a human into the fairy world and was pretending this newcomer was their partner and definitely not a human who had accidentally entered the fairy world. I played the one shot with two other couples, which did make it run overtime, but it was a delight. We also had very little trouble playing remotely, with one person in charge of cards and points tracking on an online draw-party style page.
The other games I'm more a spectator in, and then occasionally contribute ideas like fucked up boats or extended debates about magical darkness and the water cycle. That big list of alternative systems is ~
Persona: The Tabletop RPG (PersonaBS)
Quest (Luxknights)
Kids on Bikes (Streams of Consciousness)
Lancer
Beam Saber (AFI, but we haven't been calling it that)
Girl by Moonlight (MMM / Magical Girls)
Cyberpunk TTRPG
Numenera
Monster of the Week
aaand probably more that I'm forgetting because we're. Quite prolific about our play pretend time (and I've got a few concepts brewing that I still really want to nail down - Tanglethorn, the unnamed one about the sinkhole and Bad Hand may grace this list someday if I really buckle down to iron out the wrinkles)
I'm glad you're enjoying my little guys though! I just love a chance to get people into other TTRPG systems, especially when most of them are easier to learn and play than D&D and there's such a wide range of options.
Here's a little Moonlight png, as a reward for reading

Hi again! I have some questions/ideas regarding your Creature!AU for Hazbin Hotel.
1. Would Sera and Emily be harpies? Harpies are human-bird creatures, and Sera’s full angelic form looks birdlike.
2. I’m thinking that Niffty would be an ōni, which is a Japanese mythological equivalent to an ogre or orc or troll.
3. Would Angel Dust be a spider person like Arachne the Spider Woman from Ancient Greek mythology? (since Angel Dust is, of course, a spider)
4. I’m thinking that Husk would be a harpy and werecat hybrid since he’s an avian feline demon.
5. Would Mimzy be either a harpy (since she was loosely based on a chicken) or would she be a gorgon (like Medusa) or would she be both (like a harpy and gorgon hybrid)?
6. I’m thinking that Carmilla Carmine would be a kraken (especially because Carmilla Carmine reminds me of Grandmamah Gillman from the movie “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken”.)
7. I’m thinking that Adam wouldn’t be a merman/triton, but a kaiju who often disguises himself as a merman/triton. Not to mention that Adam’s merman/triton disguise would be a megladon merman/triton.
8. I’m thinking that Cherri Bomb would be either a minotaur or a centaur.
Thank you for the questions and whatnot, I love talking about my Creature!AU and expanding upon it.
In this story, sadly, Sera and Emily are both humans, most angels are the humans in the village, but I can make creature versions of them considering a human can be cursed to take a form of a creature, i.e. Vaggie. I do like the Harpy idea for that though.
Niffty being an ōni is actually an interesting idea, I was going to make her some sort of creature with bug type qualities, but I do like your idea. We will see.
Angel will actually be a Drider, which is practically like Arachne, so yes.
I have actually already decided that Husk will be a sphynx type creature.
Haven't really thought about it, but I do like the idea of Mimzy being either a gorgon or a harpy, but a mix would also be interesting, we will see about that one.
Ooooh I really do like the idea of Carmine being a Kraken.
Again, sadly, Adam is a human. He is actually the leader of the hunting group that goes into the forest to hunt creatures to "protect" the village.

Weekly Roundup : 24th March - 31st March So I had a pretty productive week this week. I amanged 25,235 words this week, hitting my monthly goal of 40,000 words by writing 72,341 words all month.
Ihave also uploaded 5 things on Ao3, one a new chapter fo my HP/Hobbut crossover and 2 chapters to my corgi fic. Anyway, recs first <3
If I could give my breath away (I would) - StupidFatPenguin - The Hobbit (Bilbo/Thorin, even with having lost his memory, Thorin is so precious in hiw quikly he falls in love Bilbo.)
(s)wiped out - I_did_not_mean_to, sandwich11213 - The Hobbit - (undercurrent of Bilbo/Thorin, the Bagginshield is subtle, but beautiful, and worth the entire fic to get to it this is a work of art, both the fic and the actual art)
When Buttercups Wither Verse - In_love_with_writing002 - The Witcher (Gen, a lovely little Jaskier centric what if series. its clever, funny and cute imo)
Dear Enemy - GingerTodgers - Harry Potter (Harry/Draco, lovely little letter fic, its adorable)
Worlds separated by a garden fence. - TheCuriousCat - The Hobbit (Fem Bilbo/Thorin, one of my fave series, Durins are fae and Bilbo is BAMF!)
Where I go, will you still follow? - ghostinthelibrary - Wiedźmin | The Witcher (Geralt/Jaskier, very suspensful read)
Now for my fics, theres a few this week so hopefully someone enjoys something <3
I want you right here, where you belong:Home with us - My 100th fic, with chapter 2. This will be a long slog fic i think, but im in love with it. Thorin has moved to "The United Kingdoms" with his friends and family. Follow his life as he ends up an unexpected father, Uncle and husband, and extends his family with wizards, witches, centaurs, goblins and, sadly, elves.
ABC's of Avoiding Bullying and Crying A cute litt kid fic one shot. All races have the same lffe span
Thorin is a big grown up 7 year old dwarf. Frerin is a little 5 year old dwarf who is usally bugging Thorin and his friends to play. So why didn't he bother them on this day, and who was he with?
A Home, A Pack, A Place of Love - Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 - I have uploaded 2 chaps of this sepcial fic that i for Razzy's bday and part of my animal Au series (which im still in love with) Bilbo is a corgi and he has become the guardian of a traumatised little corgi pup. He has to leave their cosy home and hope for the best. For him and Frodo. Hopefully he will find a ew place to call home, a new family for him and Frodo, hopefully they will thirve.
The Last Durin Princess returns home - A Dos-centric fic exploring her grief.
The Last Durin Princess returns home, but home is a tomb. A place with ghosts. With her dead borther and her dead sons. When home is no longer home, all it is is a place of pain and heart break. What is the last of her line supposed to do? How is she supposed to go on?

you walk into a goofy goober convention, or perhaps even a silly goose meet up, and you see this buggy bastard wyd?
Tumblr media
anyways yeah day 9 @clownartmonth
explanation under the cut
this is an oc of mine, Elly (it/its), who came into existence because i had the thought "hey what if that 'a centaur is technically a bug because 6 limbs' post applied to 4 arms instead of 4 legs?" and i rolled with it...
and its a bug² as well! on top of being an impossible freak of nature, its also a computer bug because i was feeling a bit too clever while making it <3
and this is actually an older, more outdated design (i couldnt remember what the new one looked like, sue me) but the new one is, affectionately nicknamed, the love bug design. so it wouldve been a bug³ but alas i am lazy
again, barely clown themed, but maybe its auditioning for the circus and hasnt gotten a proper clown fit that accounts for the 4 arms it has lol

(too shy to not go on anon but sees that tag) tell me about your fallout oc i am IMMEDIATELY both intrigued and enamored
YAY YIPPEE💖 *kicking my legs like a schoolgirl*
Olive is one of my New Vegas OCs! She’s a ghoul living in Goodsprings. She works as a giant bug/creature exterminator, her work takes her all over New Vegas. Her primary weapons are a flamer, a giant wrench, and anything she can use to cause blunt-force trauma. Stats are:
S-9
P-5
E-8
C-3
I-6
A-6
L-4
(Also keep in mind I’m still trying to figure out a timeline for her. Tentative timeline (unless I change it) is that she’s around 65 years old in 2281 (turned ghoul around 2279). I wanted to place her around the same age as Easy Pete and Doc Mitchell, but there’s no canon info on their ages.
Background info/character dynamics under the cut!
Tumblr media
She’s Iranian-American, grew up in California under the NCR, her family was part of a contractor group that helped build settlements and repair damage to buildings. She found that a lot of their work was impeded by mutated creatures infesting buildings, and that’s how she got into creature hunting. She eventually resettled in Goodsprings when she started disagreeing with the way the NCR ran things. There, she befriended Doc Mitchell and Easy Pete, who we’re already well-settled (it was easy to befriend them because they were all the same age, and Olive grows weed which they all enjoy for their body aches lol).
She became a ghoul when she accepted a contract to rid an area of centaurs (in her mind, her last big contract before she would officially retire). The people who contracted her gave her faulty radiation protection, and the constant exposure to the radiation over the time period of her contract turned her into a ghoul. The process was immensely painful and traumatic, but her new lease on life (and her newly dulled pain receptors) made her more brash and reckless. She threw herself back into her work with even more gusto.
I have it in my mind that she doesn’t really know my courier OC that well, despite the fact that my courier settled in Goodsprings at the end of the main quest. I also just have this scenario of Olive like. Injured and recovering from cazador venom in another room of Doc Mitchell's infirmary while my courier was recovering from the headshot, and that by the time Olive recovered, my courier was long gone.
Olive + Doc Mitchell + Easy Pete have this weird thing going on where like. They could be dating each other, they want to be dating each other, but each of them are holding themselves back for some reason or the other:
Olive/Easy Pete: Easy Pete had already settled in Goodsprings, and Olive was ready to officially retire, which he was excited about. When she turned into a ghoul, however, it only emboldened her to keep working and keep adventuring. This was extremely disappointing to Easy Pete, because they had already planned their cozy retirement together.
Olive/Doc Mitchell: Similar to Easy Pete, Doc Mitchell was excited to have Olive stay close to Goodsprings in her retirement. As she was turning ghoul, Doc Mitchell helped her through the worst of it, which was immensely traumatic for the both of them. Now that she's working again (and is a lot more reckless because she thinks she's immortal), she finds herself in Doc Mitchell's infirmary more often than not. It upsets him that she's not taking it easy and being more careful.
Doc Mitchell/Easy Pete: After his wife died, Doc Mitchell didn't want to find love again. He was content with being alone in Goodsprings, but Easy Pete has been such a steady presence in his life, and a lot of things can happen when they both loosen up (with the help of Olive's weed). Growing up in a vault, Doc Mitchell was exposed to a lot of traditional gender roles and American values. He doesn't deny being into men, he just thinks that he's too old to try anything new.

Pixelart Gang
Iris - Pearl water witch
Pyra/Fye - NAME PENDING - classic oldschool fire witch
Deities
Sol/Neş - Sun goddess who desperately needs a new design
Ay- moon deity that‘s only based on the crescent one because I forgot moonphases were a thing and probs needs a hug
EXAM1 - NAME PENDING - not actually a deity but an alien that gets worshipped as one (or maybe it is?) aka someone take this concept from me please it’s too cool to be stranded here without ever getting used
Misc.
Koko- green gardening gal feat. Magic
Sakura- basic pink anime video game ninja
Chiro (NAME PENDING)- Lemon witch
Cursed
Kevin the desk job-spider centaur
Baby‘s first ocs
Tomato - baby’s first venture into oc-making. This is where it all began. With a humansona for a fruitgetable.
Mary(gold)- baby’s first venture into researching real-life stuff for oc things (in this case, what plants are good companions for tomatoes)
Etrian Odyssey
Arth- Hero 3 looks like a baby version of Marth Fire Emblem down to the blue hair but playing as kids makes me feel sad for them so Arth it is. Overworked guild leader just trying his best and barely keeping it together but turning into an absolute force in battle
Ferice- way too hyped Landsknecht (and basically beta-Red), very protective of guildmates and wants to make sure everyone’s ok (by bashing skulls in with her shield because its the only way she knows how to deal with negative emotions. Thinks Medic friend is cool af for doing medic stuff.). Also kind of a gourmet when it comes to food.
Lily- Arcanist done with life (the enemies‘ life, that is). Morbidly curious. Also just regular curious, but mostly morbidly. Loves experimenting both for murder tactics and food to the point of being lowkey sadistic. The latter is worse for Arth and Ferice. Outside of that actually pretty normal.
Kaze- Edgelord nightseeker whose greatest weakness is cute stuff. Tries very hard to come across as cool to hide it, which somewhat diminishes his otherwise naturally "cool and mysterious“ vibes he’s got. Has somewhat taken on a protector role to Lily. Does low chuckles more than smiles. Genuinely terrifying on the battlefield.
Meres- og Medic 4 my beloved, polite dungeon-medic, assigned money-hungry by random events involving money always picking her, across multiple games. Has so much patience it circles back to being downright uncomfortable in certain situations. Has the Head Bash skill and the entire guild is terrified of finding out what could ever make her it. Girl are you ok. This is the third ancient being inside a tree she‘s helped kill now, no she‘s not.
Honorary mention: Querty/Quartz- Alchemist who’s way too much into burning stuff with fire for someone who wants to fill out the monsterdex and has permanent -_- face. Also loves experimenting (Not with food though) Really interested in the Gatherings of the Labyrinth for its potential Alchemy uses, and the walking dictionary. Does most of the guilds‘ paper work, and surprisingly only mildly miffed about it since the others bring cool stuff back without her being in risk of getting trampled by murder deer.

this is the yan monster luci and satan requester, not a poly relationship, but just like a mutual agreement that they don't want any low life demon going near their s/o
Okay I’ve got Lucifer as a Manticore and Satan as a Sphinx. I love writing these, its a shame I can’t write these faster.
🦁Manticore Lucifer🦁 🦁Sphinx Satan🦁 as Yanderes GN- Reader SFW
Lucifer
Appearance
As a manticore his appearance is fearsome and even his presence is enough to make most others turn tail and run. His mouth is full of too big teeth, some of the long canines poking past his stern frown.
He has small hands that are more paw-like, with razor sharp claws at the end of them. He has paw pads on the tips of each of his fingers, and 3 small pads on his palms. Unlike normal paws, he does have a thumb and surprising dexterity with them.
Along his forehead and temple he has small black horns, they’re perfectly symmetrical which is unusual for a chaotic creature like himself. On top of his head, past his horns are two lion ears that twitch and turn to even the softest noises.
On the back of his neck, down his spine, are small quills tipped with a viscous venom. He is able to flatten them against his body to make them flat for his clothes many of his kind have spots open in their clothing for their spines to poke out, but Lucifer does not have have that in his clothing, He only has a spot open for his large, slightly torn bat like wings.
His tail is long and ends with a red tipped scorpion stinger, quills randomly set along it. It normally hangs low and curls up to avoid knocking things over.
His true form is like that or a normal manticore but with piercing yet silky and shiny black fur and bright glowing blood red eyes.
The Undefeatable Beast
Manticores have a reputation of being mighty beasts unable to be slain by any man, but there are rumors of some being slain. Lucifer, one of the oldest and most powerful has never been bested. Every opponent he’s ever faced has perished and only the surviving onlookers have been able to tell the tale.
His viciousness is renown all over the devildom; while he acts like a gentleman whose temper is always under wraps, he’s quiet vengeful and easy to anger. He doesn’t like to show it, he lets it simmer until he can get his revenge.
His appetite is ravenous and loves to have barely cooked meat served elegantly. He doesn’t like it raw as it feels barbaric and he enjoys the finery of life, but if he needs to he doesn’t mind eating anyone until not even the blood is left.
He does have a vulnerable side however, as since he’s that of lion and Scorpion he needs to sunbathe in order to be in top condition if he doesn’t he’s sluggish, but more brutal. Since there's no sun in the devildom he uses a light to warm himself as he lays on his sides. He looks surprisingly peaceful when warming up.
Spending Time with You
The one thing he can’t defeat, is you. He has such a soft spot for you that he is willing to do anything you ask. Giving him your big doe eyed look makes his monstrous face scrunch up and flush at you. He really can’t say no to you.
His favorite thing in the world is to lay down with you in the warm light, looking up at you as the light engulfs you and all he can see is your smiling face. He loves it when you go to run your finger through his hair or pet him. His wings shiver when you do that and his spines do as well before tightly flatting against his skin allowing you to touch him without getting poked at all,
He is fiercely protective over you. He snaps at anyone who touches you and stands behind you as someone talks to you, his icy glare focused intensely on the person you're talking with.
He loves to take you to enjoy elegant food, sights and sounds. His favorite place to take you is the opera, he loves to listen to the soft gentle melodies as he takes your hand into his.
His Dark Tendencies
Lucifer does not like others interacting with you. Should you defend another person from him too much he’ll start to get insecure. He’ll think you're forgetting about him and falling in love with someone else, and he hates that. He’ll take you even if you struggle and lock you up and keep you to himself until he feels you’ve forgotten about the other. Of course his opponent would be dealt with swiftly, and painfully.
He loves seeing you locked up, it makes the dark monster instincts churr in delight. Completely at his whims, of course he’d never hurt you too much. Should you make him angry or god forbid you try to escape, he’ll punish you by applying constant pain without actually hurting you. Painfully clamping your skin more and more until you go mad and beg him to stop. But if you made him truly angry you’ll be lashed and whipped until he feels better making you count each one out loud.
After Punishments he’s overly sweet, he’ll kiss every bruise and cut, and look at it so tenderly as he whispers about how good you are for him and how much he loves you. But he’ll graze his razor sharp teeth over your sensitive bruises just to remind you to never do it again.
Misc Stuff
When he’s extremely relaxed around you, he will let out a purr though, it’s a deep inhumane noise so deep that it shakes your chest if you’re near. He gets embarrassed if you mention it to him.
He greets those he’s close to by pressing his forehead against theirs. He does this with you, cupping your cheeks and smiling as he does it; with his Brothers and Diavolo it’s a simple tap, but with others he only nods his head. If he doesn’t like someone he simply just stares at them without blinking, glaring into them with fury.
He wants you to smell like him all the time but he gets a bit flustered about doing it. He’ll scent you by rubbing his palms, wrist and cheeks on you while you sleep or aren’t paying attention while cuddling. He feels like a tomcat when he does it but he can’t help it.
Satan
Appearance
His body is more centaur like, with the lower body of a giant winged lion. His fur is a lustrous blonde and gold color and his lower abdomen is large and bulky with thick skin and muscle.
His wings spread wide and are tipped in shimmering gold that shines in any light. The wings which are just under his humanoid hip have a blonde and gold fur, thick and volumes. While most of his mane is centered on his hips, it does have a trail of it going up his spine and shoulder blades.
Two lion ears sit on his scalp of much longer hair then normal, tied loose with a lime green ribbon. His ears constantly moving back and forth betraying his hidden emotions. They flick at nearby noise, or something that interests him, and lay flat when angry or embarrassed.
A Guardian Creature
Sphinx are mostly known for their stories of guarding treasures and tombs. A protective species and loyal to a fault. Satan is just like others of his kind, He focuses his attention to his collection of books and scrolls. Very solemnly does he allow anyone to come near his collection let alone trusts them to borrow from it.
He’ll never admit to it, but he has a lot of the same habits that Lucifer does. He enjoys lazing under a bright warm light, and your gentle strokes on him. He even purrs just like Lucifer too.
He seeks out riddles he cannot solve, he’s said to befriend those who tell him a riddle he can’t solve. He craves to expand his knowledge and find truly intelligent and wise creatures.
Spending Time with You
You had thrown him through a loop when you were given the quest to find a riddle he couldn’t solve and gave him a cheesy dad joke. Never has someone even attempted anything like that. It fascinated him and he quickly became obsessed with you.
He enjoys seeing your point of view on all kinds of topics. He’ll bring you a gift and ask for a discussion on it. He loves hearing your voice talk about the gift he got you and your thoughts on the history behind it. It stimulates such a deep part of his brain that he’s become addicted to it and he nearly brings you one everyday.
He also enjoys stupid fun. Stuff that he doesn’t have to think about too much, he finds it deeply relaxing, though he dares not let anyone but you see it.
If you ask he’ll let you pet his soft feline pads, he’ll get all flustered and squirmy with you rubbing and massaging them. They’re so soft and pink, but while you're doing that he gets to feel your hands in his paws and to him they’re the softest thing he’s ever felt.
His Dark Tendencies
Satan is so deeply infatuated with you, he simply wants to be around you constantly, never letting you out of his grasp. He, of course, loves to bring you small, cute gifts so he can see your face heat up and you look so happy, but a dark sadistic side of him loves to see you scared. The tears dripping down your face and your eyes shoot open with terror behind it. He’ll always be there to comfort you right after but a sick part of him loves to see you like that.
If you ever tried to hide from him or try to run, he would quickly catch you with a dead, unloving, and dark face. He’d carry you back, tie you up and humiliate you, force you to eat out of a cat bowl, and spank you till your rear is black and blue. He always grins from ear to ear when he sees you limping after.
He loves chaining you up and listening to you read to him. He likes playing with the chain as you read and he always complements how it looks on you.
Misc Stuff
Ashamedly he is much like a cat at heart. He finds himself a lot of time chasing bugs and chattering at birds in class. He’s so embarrassed by it that he threatens anyone who brings it up, if not clawing them in half on the spot.
He sits like a cat does, his lower body having its paws tucked in on themselves as he reads. He often falls asleep like this too, his humanoid body frozen while the bottom one is all curled up in a tight ball.
Unlike Lucifer’s more refined palette Satan can eat whatever it is put in front of him, fresh or dressed, it does matter at all, but he doesn’t eat a lot for someone his size.
Dealing with Interferences Together
Dealing with each other was nearly unbearable, but having another one in on the fear competition was unacceptable to both of them. With the two of them they could control the scenarios you were in, keep you at least near them. But having an unknown contestant was dangerous. What if They tried to touch you? Kiss you? So what they’ve done to keep you around them, the carnage they’ve left behind to scare you away from them.
Whenever someone threatened that, they agreed to quickly and quietly deal with this before you even noticed They were gone. Stalking them and finding the perfect time to strike, when together it was deathly quiet, none of them talked and the tension was so thick you’d need a chainsaw to cut through it. They would get into fights fairly often due to them bragging about the time spent with you.
They hate working together, but they do work terribly well together as well. They get everything done quickly and without a trace. Their go-to is to kidnap the offender and bring them to a private room and take any frustration they got while working together and take it out on them. Those who go into that room never come back out. After everything is taken care of they’re right back to fighting with each other for you.

so. um
remember when i said last post in my tag ramble thingie that i was making a centaurworld s/i ????
Tumblr media
yeaaaaaa sh3’s real now lol
iiiii do not have a name for h3r (yet), but h3r pronouns are he/sh3/it/bug ! (not she, sh3 with a 3) He’s a funny little possum creature thing that weirdly enough, isn’t a centaur but still wields magic, and so far while i dont have much backstory for bug, i know it works with the Shamans (mostly Waterbaby and Johnny Teatime if needed), and that’s how bug meets MW, who I HC post-canon is called upon to be the Keeper of the Key, so she also works closely with the Shamans. (this is based off of how she interacts with Waterbaby in the first season since they DO seem to know each other, and i also headcanon that MW gave all of the Shamans the individual key pieces for them to guard because WHY ELSE WOULD THEY HAVE THEM)
Im torn between them rooming together or somehow MW and this funny little guy live in close proximity of each other, so they’re neighbors, but either way the plan is for them to kiss >:]
(A NOTE: i gotta fix my DNI banner, but what i said on the last Centaurworld post where i posted art applies. Please dont repost my art, don’t follow me/interact with my blog if you fit standard dni criteria, and uh! Please ask to follow me if you ship MysteryElk (Mysterious Woman x The Nowhere King). Also, please reblog my art, since even if it’s a sketch, it’s super helpful to do so and I love getting feedback for my work! Thank you!!)

2019 In TV - My Top 10 Shows
This past year may have sucked balls in a lot of ways, but we certainly never got short-changed when it came to our TV.  There was an absolute WEALTH of truly cracking TV around, both on regular networks and on the various on-demand platforms, and so here is my pick of the best, my absolute favourites of 2019.

10.  WATCHMEN
Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof brings us a blinding sequel to comic book legend Alan Moore’s legendary graphic novel with a delightfully trippy, ruthlessly efficient rug-puller that seems pretty tailor-made for HBO.  Old faces return in interesting ways, while there are some cracking new “masks” on offer, particularly Regina King’s Sister Night and the always-brilliant Tim Blake Nelson as morally complex antihero Looking Glass (in some ways very much the show’s own answer to Rorschach).  It never goes where you expect it to go, and refuses to give easy answers to the questions it raises, effortlessly paving the way for more next year ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9.  THE BOYS
Amazon offers up its own edgy, thoroughly adult superhero property with this darkly funny antiheroic gem based on the cult Garth Ennis comic, expertly adapted by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.  Karl Urban dominates as Billy Butcher, the foul-mouthed, morally bankrupt “leader” of a makeshift crew of mercenaries, hitmen and psycho killers devoted to “taking care of” superheroes when they inevitably go bad.  Season 1 ultimately serves as an origin story, showing how the team come together, laying quality groundwork for the incoming sophomore tour that promises to open the already fascinating world out significantly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8.  PREACHER (SEASON 4)
More Garth Ennis, namely this blinder of a closing season for AMC’s consistently impressive adaptation of his best known series for Vertigo comics.  Surprisingly epic, deliciously subversive and constantly, darkly hilarious, this thoroughly non-PC series from showrunners Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (yes! I Know!) certainly went out on a high note, providing its loyal followers with perfectly-pitched bow-outs and sometimes heartbreaking goodbyes for all its players, especially its dynamite leads, Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and, in particular, Joe Gilgun as unapologetic bad boy vampire Cassidy.  A worthy end to one of my all-time favourite TV shows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7.  THE WITCHER
While it’s clearly taken its look from the wildly successful video games, Netflix’s second most ambitious long-form offering of the year takes its lead from the fantasy book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski that started it all.  With its somewhat episodic set-up and decidedly twisted narrative timelines, it take a few chapters to get the hang of it, but there’s plenty to draw you in, from the exotic world-building to the frenetic action and compelling collection of richly crafted characters.  Henry Cavill is the titular hero, lovably grouchy mutant monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia, but the real scene-stealer is co-star Anya Chalotra as roguishly self-serving mage Yennefer of Vengenberg.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6.  CARNIVAL ROW
One of the year’s two big sleeper hit TV surprises for me was this inventively offbeat allegorical Amazon fantasy series from The 4400 creator René Echevarria and screenwriter Travis Beacham. Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne are the star-crossed lovers at the heart of this intriguingly dark and dirty murder mystery thriller set in Victorian London-esque city-state the Burgue, in which humans struggle to co-exist alongside a struggling disenfranchised underclass of fae (fairies, fawns, centaurs and the like).  The racial turmoil undertones are writ large throughout, but this is far more well-written and lavishly appointed than you might expect on first glance, and almost ridiculously addictive viewing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5.  LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS
My other big TV surprise was this wonderfully bizarre sci-fi anthology series of animated shorts from Netflix, mostly adapted from an eclectic selection of short stories from a wide range of top-notch literary talent including Peter F. Hamilton, John Scalzi, Marko Kloos and Alastair Reynolds (a particular favourite of mine).  As you’d expect from the brainchild of Deadpool director Tim Miller and producer David Fincher, this is edgy, leftfield stuff, frequently ultra-violent and decidedly adult, and the wildly varied nature of the material on offer makes for a decidedly uneven tone, but there are some absolute gems on offer here, my favourite being Suits, an enjoyably simple tale of salt-of-the-earth farmers on an alien world utilising clunky mech suits to protect their settlement from rampaging giant xeno-bugs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4.  THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE
The show with the biggest cinematic wow factor in 2019 had to be this long-awaited prequel series to Jim Henson’s classic fantasy movie masterpiece, created for Netflix by, of all people, Louis Leterrier (yes, the director of The Transporter, Now You See Me and Clash of the Titans, if you can believe it). The technology may have evolved in leaps and bounds, but there’s a wonderfully old school vibe in the delightfully physical puppet effects used to bring the fantastical world of Thra and its denizens to life, so that it truly does feel like it’s based in the same world as the film.  This was EASILY the most visually arresting show of 2019, packed with exquisite character, creature and set design that perfectly complements the awesome work done by Henson and Brian Froud on the original, while the writers have created a darkly rich narrative tapestry that makes Thra seem a more dangerous place than ever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.  THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY
I was a HUGE fan of My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way’s magnificently oddball alternative superhero comic, so when I learned that Netflix were adapting it I was a little wary because I knew how spectacularly hard it would be for ANY showrunners to get right.  Thankfully Steve Blackman (Fargo season 2) and Jeremy Slater (The Exorcist TV series) were the right choice, because this perfectly captured the outsider nature of the characters and their endearingly dysfunctional family dynamic. Ellen Page, Tom Hopper (Black Sails, Merlin), David Castañeda and Emmy Raver-Lampman are all excellent as the more “functional” Hargreeves siblings, but the show is roundly stolen by Misfits star Robert Sheehan and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn’s Aidan Gallagher as nihilistic clairvoyant Klaus and the old-man-in-a-child’s-body sociopath known only as Number Five. Consistently surprising and brilliantly bonkers, this was definitely the year’s most wonderfully WEIRD show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.  STRANGER THINGS (SEASON 3)
Writer-director duo the Duffer Brothers’ ultra-nostalgic 80s-set coming-of-age sci-fi horror series remains the undisputed jewel in Netflix’s long-form crown with this consistently top-drawer third season expertly maintaining the blockbuster-level standards we’ve come to expect.  This year the cross-dimensional shenanigans have largely been jettisoned, replaced by a gleefully nasty through-line of icky body horror that would make major influences like David Cronenberg and Stuart Gordon proud, as perennial teenage bad boy Billy Hargrove (the fantastically menacing Dacre Montgomery) becomes the leader of an army of psychic slaves under the control of the Upside Down’s monstrous Mind Flayer.  The kids are all brilliant as always, Winona Ryder and David Harbour really get to build on their strong-yet-spiky chemistry, and the show is almost effortlessly stolen by Joe Keery as one-time golden boy Steve Harrington and series-newcomer Maya Hawke as his nerdy new foil Robin Buckley, who were very nearly the cutest couple on TV in 2019.  Another gold standard season for a true gold standard show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.  GOOD OMENS
Sadly, legendary author Terry Pratchett died before he could see the adaptation of one of his most beloved novels (and one of my all-time literary favourites too) see the light of day, but at least his co-author Neil Gaiman was around to bring it to fruition with the aid of seasoned TV director David Mckinnon (Jekyll, Doctor Who, Sherlock), and the end result sure did him proud, perfectly capturing the deeply satirical voice and winningly anarchic, gleefully offbeat and gently subversive humour of the original novel.  David Tennant and Michael Sheen could both have been born to play Crowley and Aziraphale, the angel and demon nominally charged with watching over the young Antichrist in preparation for his role in the End Times, even though they would both much rather the world just went on quite happily the way it is, thanks very much. This is about as perfect an adaptation as you can get, the six hour-long episodes giving the surprisingly complex story time to breathe and grow organically, and the result is the most fun I spent in front of my TV this year.

I like tall vampire woman and I love her 3 daughters made 100% out of bugs (essentially each one of them is ten thousand bugs in a trenchcoat, how do you not love that) but Duke might be my favorite character in the game. Chubby capitalist with taste and style. I am imagining that he looks human when he sells things, but he seems to move his little carriage all by himself, and with great haste- perhaps he is hiding something like many creature legs? He might unfold hidden limbs and become a spider or centaur-type but with bug legs, strong enough to pull his wares around at great speed and not get tired. Idk, he’s so cool!

27 and 29!
27. What is one thing that really bugs you that you would rewrite/change about one NPC/Companion?
FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK GIVE DANSE SOME DEVELOPMENT AND DIALOGUE CHANGES POST BB.
29. What is one thing in one fallout game you really wish you could do/see for the first time again?
Oh I'd love to relive that first time seeing the prydwen fly in. That was one hell of a moment. Or my first encounter with a mirelurk queen.
I really wish I could go into fo4 completely blind, actually, because I was late to it I already knew a handful of things - not really spoilery ones, but just general stuff. I'd give my left kidney to go in blind and meet Nick without knowing anything about him, aha.
But i'd also love to relive the opening of FO3 and that moment when you first emerge into the capital wasteland.
Also the shrieking terror of meeting my first centaur in 3 hahahaaaaugh.

5e Tianhuo the Fire of Huoshan build (Them’s Fightin’ Herds)
Tumblr media
(Artwork by Mane 6)
看最長的龍馬!
In my attempt to branch out from making nothing but League of Legends builds here’s a character from Them’s Fightin’ Herds! The Fighting is Magic project is something I followed for quite awhile and I was quite happy to back their IndieGoGo. (You can find my name in the credits!) While I’m personally not that great at fighting games TFH is a lot of fun and is rather welcoming to newcomers with several features to move it away from the traditional elite crowd that fighting games draw in.
Personally I’m a garbage Tian spammer who has no idea how to combo or do anything. (Occasionally play Papi and do want to learn Oli someday. Warlock Unicorn uwu) Tian has a fun rushdown style and focuses on aerial combos which as a garbage Bella / Beo spammer in Skullgirls really tickles my fancy.
GOALS
拳頭格鬥遊戲 - Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a game of hoof-to-hoof combat. Tianhou needs to punch, kick, and flip with the best of them.
龍的火焰 - The longmas of Huoshan channel the dragon’s fire magic into every strike. I mean, how else could you tolerate living on a volcano?
龍的飛行 - With wings of flame we’ll need to be able to take off in combat.
RACE
There are two directions we can go for the race: Centaur or Dragonborn.
Centaurs are interesting if you want to channel more of the horse aspect of Tian. You get a plus two to Strength and a plus one to Wisdom, but notably you start with 40 feet of movement putting you 10 feet ahead of everyone else. You also count as a Fey instead of Humanoid which does have some interesting interactions with spells like Hold Person. But as a Centaur you get the Charge feature which lets you make an unarmed strike with your hooves after making a weapon attack, and your Hooves do damage equal to a d4 plus your strength modifier. However full disclosure we won’t need that extra attack for this build, and your Equine Build affecting your climbing speed isn’t that useful either. You do get extra skills from Survivor however but seeing as we won’t be using Centaur I’ll talk about our other option:
Dragonborn! Dragonborn are much easier to summarize than Centaurs and are going to be our race of choice. You get a +2 increase to Strength and a +1 to Charisma along with a choice of Draconic Ancestry. Your ancestry of choice will determine your Damage Resistance as well as the damage type and shape of your Breath Weapon. For maximum fire damage choose either Brass, Red, or Gold depending on what size of breath weapon you want. I personally opted for Gold as gold is good luck in Chinese mythology. But most importantly Dragonborn won’t immediately label you as the guy playing their MLP OC at the table... it’s not an OC dammit!
ABILITY SCORES
15; DEXTERITY - You move so fast your hair is literally on fire!
14; WISDOM - “The wise are like a river; they go forward and upward, never backward or downward.” ― Matshona Dhliwayo
13; CHARISMA - You need an intimidating face to bring your soldiers in line. Charisma is also a requirement to multiclass.
12; CONSTITUTION - To fight with an ice-slinging diva, occultist unicorn, or crazy love-bug alpaca you need to be able to take a hit.
10; INTELLIGENCE - To study the art of war you need to be smart. As a general you follow the orders but you need to know why.
8; STRENGTH - While I wish this could be higher it’s unfortunately not too necessary for this build, but thankfully our racial bonus will increase this to a flat 10.
BACKGROUND
Your background is very straight forward for Tianhuo: you’re a Soldier. You get proficiency in Athletics and Intimidation as well as land vehicles and a gaming set: I’d opt for Three-Dragon Ante as it makes sense for a dragon soldier.
As a Soldier you get a Military Rank, meaning that soldiers in the Huoshan army defer to you. In addition you can influence other soldiers to provide aid, access to military encampments, or horses... to ride. That’s insulting!

THE BUILD
LEVEL 1 - MONK 1
We’ll be starting off as Monk so we can kick as well as flip. You get proficiency in two Monk skills: Acrobatics are a must and for your second skill I’d opt for Insight so you can tell if your soldiers are lying to you. You also get proficiency in one Musical Instrument or Artisan’s Tool and of course we must go for Calligrapher's Supplies; the pen’s mightier than the sword and to master the pen makes you the mightiest of them all.
But as a Monk you get Unarmored Defense equal to 10 plus your Dexterity and Wisdom modifier. While Tian has been shown to wear armor it’s mostly for show, and she mainly fights with nothing but her scales to protect her. You also get Martial Arts which have a bunch of benefits:
You can wield Monk Weapons, including shortswords and any simple melee weapon that doesn’t have the heavy or two-handed property.
You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed strikes and monk weapons.
You can roll a d4 for the damage of your unarmed strike or monk weapon.
When you Attack with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon you can make one unarmed strike as a bonus action.
As a Huoshan warrior you’d be trained to use a spear or a sword, but at the end of the day your weapon of choice is your two hooves... hands... being a horse in D&D is weird.
LEVEL 2 - MONK 2
Second level Monks get Ki points to use on a variety of combat techniques. Flurry of Blows lets you make two attacks with your bonus action instead of one, Patient Defense lets you take the dodge action as a bonus action, and Step of the Wind doubles your jump distance and lets you take the Dash or Disengage action on your turn as a bonus action.
In addition second level Monks get Unarmored Movement to move 10 feet faster if they’re not wearing armor or using a shield. You need to rush your opponents and never let up! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!
LEVEL 3 - MONK 3
Level 3 Monks get their Monastic Tradition and there are a lot of traditions to choose from for a fire horse-dragon: Four Elements, Kensei, Sun Soul... but the fighting style of choice for fighting characters would be Way of the Open Hand. Open Hand Monks get Open Hand Technique: when you hit an enemy with Flurry of Blows you can force a variety of effects on your target. You can either force a Dexterity saving throw or knock them prone, force a Strength saving throw or push them 15 feet away, or just make it so they can’t take reactions until the end of your next turn.
You also get Deflect Missiles which lets you reduce the damage of a ranged weapon attack by a d10 plus your Dexterity modifier and your Monk level. If you reduce the weapon’s attack to 0 you can spend a Ki point to throw it back at the enemy like a dart. Most of your opponents are blasting you with magic but that’s just because they know how pointless a bow would be. Burn up any projectile before kicking it back at them!
LEVEL 4 - MONK 4
At level 4 you can spread your wings of fire with Slow Fall, reducing any falling damage you take by 5 times your Monk level.
You also get an Ability Score Improvement or Feat and the Athlete feat will let you quickly get up if a cow causes an earthquake. Standing up only uses 5 feet of movement, climbing doesn't cost you extra movement, and you can make a running jump after moving only 5 feet. You can also increase either your Strength or Dexterity and of course we’ll be going for Dexterity for nice even numbers.
LEVEL 5 - MONK 5
5th level Monks get an Extra Attack, adding up to 3 attacks total or 4 attacks when you use Flurry of Blows. Speaking of attacks your Martial Arts die increases to a d6 at this level. But most notably you get Stunning Strike to start up some combos: when you hit a target with a melee weapon you can spend 1 ki point to force a Constitution saving throw or stun the target until the end of your next turn. Keep your enemies in hit stun and get that Ultra Combo!
Tumblr media
(Artwork by Aegann on DeviantArt)
LEVEL 6
Now that we know how to fight it’s time to get our wings and learn how to fly. There are a lot of subclasses that can get the ability to fly: Sorcerers and Wizards can learn the Flight spell but get a bit too much magic for my liking, and while Artificers can make Winged Boots that requires a lot of level investment and Tian is hardly an inventor. I want a class that can provide powerful and consistent results, all with an infernal flair to keep us in the fight.
WARLOCK 1
Here’s a shocker huhn! You can rule the Warlock multiclass as a variety of things: the strength of your dragon mother, your allegiance to Huoshan... regardless you’re going to have to explain why you have a Fiend as your Otherworldly Patron. I have to remind everyone that the names of the classes are suggestions only! Feel free to roleplay them however you want.
Regardless: Fiend Warlocks get Dark One’s Blessing, granting them temporary hit points whenever they slay an enemy equal to their Charisma modifier plus their Warlock level.
You also get Pact Magic allowing you to cast some dragonfire! Prestidigitation will let you do a variety of small tricks including heating food and drinks with your fire breath or lightning candles with a puff of flame. And since this is a Warlock build you may as well take Eldritch Blast to fight at range - it’s more of Oleander’s thing yes but it’s not like you have much else to choose from.
You also get two spells of your choice at this level: Burning Hands from the Fiend list is a more potent dragonfire, and Hellish Rebuke will let you burn anyone that strikes you.
LEVEL 7 - WARLOCK 2
Second level Warlocks get Eldritch Invocations: Devil’s Sight will let you fight in the dark because Dragonborn don’t have Darkvision for some reason.  Fiendish Vigor will give you a bit of added vitality to block some attacks during a fight. These are the choices I’d personally go for but there are a few other suggestions I can make:
Armor of Shadows will increase your AC by 1 at the moment since you only have +2 in your Wisdom.
Beguiling Influence will make you a master of social affairs, though Deception isn’t very in-character for you.
Agonizing Blast, Eldritch Sight, and Eyes of the Rune Keeper are all just generally useful.
You also learn another spell at this level and Hex will let you do an extra d6 of damage with every hit in your combo. Considering that as a Monk you can attack a total of 4 times per turn that’s a lot of damage!
LEVEL 8 - WARLOCK 3
Third level Warlocks get access to their Pact Boon, and seeing as Tian doesn’t use weapons or have a familiar we’ll of course be going for Pact of the Tome. You get three cantrips from any class’ spell list: Control Flames will allow you to channel your dragon lineage to do some funky fire magic, and while there are other fire spells (Firebolt / Produce Flame) they’re not nearly as useful for us so take Guidance to assist your soldiers and Thaumaturgy for the voice of a general. (As well as some more fire shenanigans.)
You also get access to second level spells and Scorching Ray will let you spread your wings to scorch three enemies within 120 feet of you.
LEVEL 9 - WARLOCK 4
4th level Warlocks get an Ability Score Improvement and you’re going to want to further increase your Dexterity for stronger strikes and tougher scales.
You also get another spell at this level but I’d hold off on it for now since we get some pretty good stuff at our next level. You do get another cantrip but truthfully you can grab just about anything and still remain in-flavor. I personally opted for Create Bonfire because it’s a fire.
LEVEL 10 - WARLOCK 5
First and foremost 5th level Warlocks get access to 3rd level spells and there’s two in particular we want: Fly gives a creature you touch (ideally yourself) a flying speed of 60 feet. Secondly Fireball... you know what this is. It’s Fireball. In D&D. Use Fireball and only Fireball; nothing but Fireball. Just Fireball. Just Fireball. Just Fireball. Jokes you can now fly and use your super! 闷烧踢 燃烧风! (Thanks to the TFH devs on their official Discord for giving me the kanji for Tian’s super.)
5th level Warlocks also get another Invocation. Cloak of Flies can be good for an immolation aura or if you want to straighten up your soldiers but feel free to take other options from earlier levels if you so desire. If your DM allows Unearthed Arcana the Class Feature Variants UA has a few options: Eldritch Mind can help compensate for your low Constitution so you don’t stop flying, and Far Scribe can be nice to keep in touch with your soldiers over long distances.
LEVEL 11 - WARLOCK 6
6th level Fiend Warlocks get Dark One’s Own Luck, letting them add a d10 to an ability check or saving throw. It’s called “luck” but you can contribute it to raw skill. You also get your last spell at this level and while I personally opted for Counterspell you can take just about anything. Truthfully all we’ll really be using is Fly and Fireball.
Tumblr media
(Artwork by unousaya on DeviantArt)
LEVEL 12 - MONK 6
Straight through Monk now. Level 6 Monks get Ki-Empowered Strikes making their fists magical for the sake of overcoming resistances. Paprika’s wool might be able to absorb regular blows but they can’t absorb the flames of Huoshan! Your Unarmored Movement also increases to 15 feet, giving you 45 feet of movement total.
Open Hand Monks meanwhile get Wholeness of Body. You can take an action once per Long Rest to regain an amount of hitpoints equal to three times your Monk level. They can knock you down but they aren’t ready for Round 2!
LEVEL 13 - MONK 7
7th level Monks get Evasion: if you’re forced to make a Dexterity saving throw you only take half damage if you fail, and you take no damage if you succeed. Blocking is great and all but dodging is important to avoid chip damage! You also get Stillness of Mind letting you channel your inner dragon to remove an effect of Charming or Frightening on you as an action.
LEVEL 14 - MONK 8
8th level Monks get an Ability Score Improvement: cap off your Dexterity for swift strikes and expert evasion.
LEVEL 15 - MONK 9
Level 9 Monks get an Unarmored Movement Improvement letting them run across water or along walls as long as they end their turn on solid ground. Clearly this isn’t you running “across” the water or “along” the wall but rather you just gliding over them.
LEVEL 16 - MONK 10
Level 10 Monks get Purity of Body, making you as hearty as a horse and immune to Poison and Disease. Your Unarmored Movement also increases by 5 feet for +20 feet, or 50 feet total. Just a reminder that the Fly spell makes you move 60 feet per turn.
LEVEL 17 - MONK 11
Level 11 Open Hand Monks are affected by Tranquility, giving them the effects of the Sanctuary spell whenever they finish a long rest. Sanctuary does go away if you attack though, which by the way your Martial Arts die increases to a d8 at this level.
LEVEL 18 - MONK 12
12th level Monks get another Ability Score Improvement and you have a few options: Constitution will increase your health and the effectiveness of your fire breath as well as help you keep your concentration on Fly, Wisdom will increase your AC and make your Open Hand techniques / Stunning Strike harder to resist, and Charisma will let you roleplay the captain better and give you better attacks with your fire magic. And of course if none of those appeal to you feel free to take a Feat instead: this build is just a suggestion and you’re welcome to change it however you want.
LEVEL 19 - MONK 13
Level 13 Monks get Tongue of the Sun and Moon, allowing you to speak and understand all languages. I’m sure the translators have already localized you for every region: they certainly have China down!
LEVEL 20 - MONK 14
Level 14 Monks get our final Unarmored Movement increase, bringing your movement speed up to 55 total. Reminder that this is 5 under your speed if you cast Fly.
But more importantly you get Diamond Soul as your capstone, giving your proficiency in all saving throws! This is insanely useful for keeping your Concentration on Fly, and now your lowest saving throws should be a +6 while your highest saving throw (still Dexterity) is at a whopping +11! 鑽石堅不可摧!
FINAL BUILD
PROS
迅速的火焰 - You have an immense amount of mobility with 55 feet of movement that can go across water and along walls as well as the ability to quickly get on your feet and jump into the action. And if worse comes to worse you can fly!
四分之一圈 沖床 - Unlike most Monks you have quite a few good ranged options, and even though you’re best in melee you’re not above some projectile spam like Velvet.
像馬一樣健康 - You have quite a bit of sturdiness to you. Good AC, proficiency in all saving throws, 9 Temporary Hitpoints whenever you strike an enemy down, and Wholeness of Body giving you a 42 HP pickup when needed.
CONS
冰很好 - All your damage is either bludgeoning or fire. Remember that you are allowed to take spells that are less roleplay-focused if you want to do better in the mirror match.
你一定是 MAD - The Warlock dip makes an already MAD (Multi-Ability Dependent) class even MADder. This build requires Dexterity, Wisdom, Charisma, and Constitution is also good to have. See if you can grab some Ioun Stones, stat tomes, or a better initial stat array; because damn you’ll need it.
英雄不孤單 - The truth is that while the Warlock dip is nice to throw Fireballs we really don’t need flight from the Fly spell. If you have an Artificer or a cool DM you can easily get either a pair of Winged Boots or the Wings of Flying to give you the flight speed. And even then as a Monk you truthfully have more than enough mobility to not need flight on top of it.
But self-sufficiency isn’t a weakness. Of course a general is nothing without an army, and while Foenum may rule one-on-one combat the rules are different in the forgotten realms. Command your troops and take the frontline to fight the predators back! Just know when to take a loss and call it quits: no one likes a salty dragon-horse.

Note
OC ask for Liana please!
Contains some spoilers for the current Living World
1: List five basic facts about your OC.
Liana is a Magister of the Durmond Priory, the Pact Commander, and Leader of Dragon’s Watch
While her backstory does involve the Lost Parents storyline for humans, instead of being taken back to Divinity’s Reach, Liana is found by a traveling Shaman of Raven and taken to Hoelbrak.
She suffers from astraphobia. It probably doesn’t help that the night her birth parents died at the hands of the White Mantle, there had been a pretty big thunderstorm occurring.
She set out for Kryta at the age of 17 to try and learn more about her family, arriving just as the centaurs attacked Shaemoor.
She is definitely known for her bizarre appetite, much to the chagrin of her adoptive brother Hjalmar. (you can imagine he flipped when he found out she consumed toxic-cured bacon)
2: Post a line of dialogue from your OC.
The corner of Liana’s mouth twitched into a smirk as she finished off the remains of her breakfast. “Honestly, I think I was more scared of Gixx then I was of the shades or the possibility of the entire mountain coming down upon our heads. Asura can be downright intimidating when they’re mad.”
3: Post a snippet from your writing that describes your OC.
4: Post a snippet from your writing in which another OC describes your OC.
Gaaaaaah……..for both three and four, I’m afraid I don’t have enough chapters in my fanfic to have snippets that could fully answer those. Real life and work managed to get in the way before I had a chance to expand beyond three chapters, but thankfully now I’m feeling the spark for creativity return, so I’ll definitely try to get a chapter out as soon as possible!
5: Describe your OC’s physical appearance.
Liana is fairly tall, standing at roughly 5′7′‘. She has amber brown eyes and she has a warm brown complexion with golden undertones. She has dark brown hair that is almost always worn in an undercut style with a few braids on the left side, although since her return from the Land of the Lost, she now has a white streak running through it as well. She has a large scar stretching from her collarbone down past her stomach from where Balthazar had killed her, and recently a bolt shaped scar surrounded by burns has added itself across her chest from Bangar’s attempt on her life.
6: Describe your OC’s love life.
Liana has no experience when it comes to romance, the most she knows coming from romance novels. Around the time of Living World 3, she realizes she has romantic feelings for Braham Eirsson, but then the events in Bitterfrost Frontier occur. After A Bug In The System, however, Braham reveals he had harbored attraction towards Liana as well when the two find the time to talk. They both decide it would be best to reconcile and become friends again before determining if they were both ready for a romantic relationship. Sometime between A Star to Guide Us and All or Nothing is when the two decide to become lovers.
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Given how the Commander hardly gets any rest, Liana is usually in leather armor a majority of the time. She has a few select pieces for fancy occasions, but she tends to prefer armor that’s easy to move in and offers the best protection. On the rare occasions she does have some downtime, she tends to be a person who prefers dressing for comfort, usually favoring colors like blues and greens. She does have a few fancy party dresses she really likes that Kasmeer helped her pick out, but sadly, she hasn’t been able to find the time to wear them as of yet.
8: Describe one of your OC’s bad habits.
Bottling her emotions up. She feels like she has to remain strong for everyone and not show any signs of faltering. Thankfully, with the support of friends and a professional, she’s starting to get better at dealing with emotions in a more healthy way.
9: Your OC is having a nightmare. What is it?
A lot of her nightmares tend to be centered around people that have died: Sieran, Apatia, Kekt, Eir, and most recently General Soulkeeper.
These nightmares almost always revolve around her reliving their deaths, usually finding herself frozen as she witnesses them sacrificing themselves to save others (Sieran and Apatia) or she’s trying to prevent their death from occurring only for their demise to still come about (Kekt and Eir).
As far as the death of General Soulkeeper, it alternates between seeing it through Ryland’s eyes after she viewed it in the Eye of the North’s vision pool or she’s witnessing it from a third person point of view.
10: You are conducting a ritual. What 5 items would you need to summon your OC?
Pizza, a harlequin romance novel, chocolate, a stuffed wolf plush, and fire orchids (her favorite flower)
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Arrows are always good to have, although she would really love to have a collection of stories from different parts of Tyria.
12: What does your OC give another OC for their birthday?
She’d try to look in to see if there’s something they’d been really wanting for a while. If she’s unable to do that, she’ll usually try to make them something, either a small carving or a drawing.
13: Describe your OC’s living situation.
For awhile she lived in the Great Lodge in Hoelbrak, but recently she’s usually made camp where she ends up. As of now, she’s currently residing in a side room within the Eye of the North.
14: What is one of your OC’s secrets?
She can’t dance at all.
15: Your OC is given the chance to go back in time. Where do they go and what do they do?
This is a bit of a tough one. If she had to narrow it down, though, she’d probably go back to try and warn Trahearne about Mordremoth before the Pact Fleet had a chance to leave for the jungle. Even though she’s forever grateful for Guenhwyvar’s aid in fighting the Jungle Dragon, she wishes there could have been a way to prevent so much loss of life.
16: If your OC could have any superpower, which would it be and why?
I guess in a way her soulbeast abilities count as a superpower. I feel like she would love the ability to make portals though to make traveling from place to place during dire situations a hell of a lot easier, though.
17: How does your OC do during the zombie apocalypse?
She’d probably do well. She has some fairly good skills when it comes to surviving and hunting. She may want to curb back a bit on eating random things she finds, though.
18: What is your OC’s dream job?
Liana has decided that once the Elder Dragons are dealt with and she’s able to hang up her mantle as Commander, she plans to open a lodge of her own to run and possibly raise skyscales.
19: Your OC’s life is a musical. What’s the title of their big show-stopping song?
Not sure what sort of tune it would have, but it would probably be called “We’re Cancelling the Apocalypse.”
20: Post a picture or gif that describes your OC.

Okay so normally I would have left it at the bitchy post and move on but honestly I’ve had problems with Caithe’s writing for a long time and it’s high time I made a rant post so I can stop thinking about it.
Under the cut is a giant rant about how Anet shafted Caithe’s character and didn’t do her nearly close to the justice she deserved, while in the process messing with the Commander’s story in ways that still bother me and that I’ve rewritten in my own personal canon.
Tagging this as long post in case the readmore breaks. Tagging it as Caithe for personal filing. Don’t like it, don’t read it.
(spoilers for the entire game up through episode 5 of season 4 as well as mentions of abuse and criticisms of Caithe.)
TL;DR - Caithe’s writing is mediocre at best, but she had a lot of potential that was squandered. In my opinion.
The first major problem I have with Caithe’s story is simply the fact that the first and only wlw relationship we’re shown in game for a long time (I think 2 years? no canon major wlw relationships until the end of Season 1) is abusive. While I know Caithe as a character is great way for a lot of wlw to project and relate, it’s still not a great start.
That said, it’s because of this past abusive relationship that we get the base of Caithe’s character and the potential for growth. Caithe closes herself off from everyone and clearly has depression that’s affecting her worldview. Relationships only end in pain, friendships will get you hurt. Combine this with the secret (the Sylvari origin) she’s carrying that alienates her from her own kind and you’ve got the makings of a really dark backstory that gives plenty of potential for a story of “no matter what you’ve been through, you can learn to be happy again.”
In my opinion her involvement in the personal story is....eh. It matches the rest of the writing there. A bit flat, but overall fine with a note of hope at the end that’s pleasant. The Commander is there to bring hope to the hopeless and to beat dragon minions with their favorite stick.
Skipping to season 2, I personally think this is the only truly good season of writing for Caithe. Albeit her involvement is a bit sparse (that’s the problem with trying to juggle so many characters.) but the moments she does get are good.  Caithe’s betrayal of the Commander by stealing the egg was honestly one of my favorite moments of her writing. I was genuinely upset with her.
But this leads us to more insight into how terrible Caithe’s relationship with Faolain was and just how devoted Caithe can be to those she loves as well as how abusers can use their power to make their victims do things they would normally never do. I mean Caithe helped Faolain slaughter an entire village of peaceful centaurs (never mind the incredibly racist Native American stereotypes behind the centaurs and the fact that the tribe was killed by British coded people...that’s a different analysis for a different time). It reveals just how truly heavy Caithe’s burden is while also giving us a sense of terror and realization of how fucked things are.
And then she abandons us to fight the Shadow of the Dragon all by ourselves (a particularly hurtful callback to a Sylvari commander).
In Heart of Thorns her writing is...up and down. Finally finding her and having the egg choose us over her is...a moment I’m conflicted on. Yet another moment of the Commander overshadowing her. But it also gives her more justification to close herself off further.
I would have liked more emotional talk from Caithe to vinetooth Faolain, but I understand why they didn’t do that. Caithe is, at the end of the day, extremely goal oriented. Worrying about her feelings while Mordremoth still lives is simply not something she can do.
Season 3 marks the starts of my real problems with Caithe and her writing. The base game through HoT sets us up with the understanding that Caithe has a one track mind. Whatever her current goal is, that’s the only thing she sees. Blinders on, all there is forward. It’s a good character trait that can be both a good quality and a serious flaw.
But the thing anet seems to forget is that once the blinders come off, Caithe can see the mess around her.
Her eldest brother is dead, as well as her friend and her ex lover. And at least part of it was her own doing. Not only did Caithe steal the egg and constantly distract the Commander from their goal of saving Dragon’s Watch and Trahearne, but Caithe knew that the Sylvari were Mordremoth’s minions and told nobody. Imagine if Caithe had revealed this to Trahearne. Imagine if the Pact had been more cautious entering the fray, uncertain what may happen when the Sylvari get close to the dragon that should be controlling them. Things could have been wildly different.
Instead there is no reflection. There’s no moment where you find Caithe just outside of Eir’s place, grieving and trying to process all her emotions. There’s no chance for the Commander to truly be upset with Caithe.
I certainly don’t count the forgiveness Caithe tried to force out of us in the middle of battle as proper anger or emotional processing for either of them. Why can’t I be mad that Caithe didn’t tell anybody the truth? Why can’t Caithe have a moment where she finally talks about her present emotions and has personal growth? Why must her character be so stagnant?
She literally ends her scene with a moment of self pity, proving she’s learned nothing this entire time.
I have no problems with her part in the egg chamber. Aurene is her new Wyld Hunt and she wants to prove to the Commander that she wants to help. Even if the Commander knows better than to trust her anymore.
And now we have to hop allllll the way to season 4 episode 4 to talk about Caithe again. Cause apparently Anet isn’t sexist for not including their women characters, but fans are sexist for not liking them.
Caithe appears at the end of A Star to Guide Us, revealing with a comment that she’s been around for a lot longer than she’s given on but didn’t feel compelled to help us or defend/comfort Aurene. In fact, she has yet another moment of self pity. Telling us that she felt like Aurene didn’t need her anymore cause she flew to Elona to try and save us from death instead of sitting in the egg chamber with Caithe. Cause that’s what I want from the adoptive mother of my child (who’s Wyld Hunt is literally to protect said child), abandonment at the first sign of independence. Not bothering to help save said child from death but then looking for pity and sympathy from the parent who literally died for Aurene.
All or Nothing has one moment that bothers me in particular regarding Caithe. Her branding. While I don’t see anything wrong with the act itself, it was honestly quite touching, I think it was handled poorly and completely erases the Commander’s connection to Aurene. The Commander has had a link to Aurene since she was an egg. That’s YEARS for the bond to grow between them. In A Bug In The System Aurene literally lets us see through her eyes. In Season 3 she’s shown to be following us around while we save the day. There’s an entire mastery line dedicated to our bond with her.
But instead Caithe gets everything. The psychic bond, the new look, all of the story attention. She’s even shown to be one of the only one who cares about Aurene’s feelings (Taimi being the other) even above the Commander.
And the whole reason they do this is so they can finally move Caithe’s character along. Because she’s never once in the writing allowed to grow or learn from her experience. The only way Caithe is allowed to have a happy ending is if someone else fixes her problems and fills the pain up with purpose once again.
That isn’t good writing.
Caithe never once in her entire story arc grows on her own. She’s never allowed to get better or to see more to life unless it’s handed to her on a crystal platter.
Does this mean that I hate her? No. Does it mean that I dislike her writing? Oh yeah. Caithe is repeatedly forced back into her personality from the base game and not allowed to develop in any way unless someone else makes her. That’s infuriating. Where is my story about someone leaving an abusive relationship, trying to make up for the mistakes they made when they were younger, and learning to find happiness in the people around her on the way?
I see why people love her. I see why wlw care about her so much. But to say that her writing is perfect is a lie and shows that you’re projecting your own fanon onto her to fill in the gaps.
You can still love a character while admitting the flaws both in them and their writing.
