Hi Anon! Thank you for sending this ask and giving me an excuse to make another self-indulgent rec list. It was so much fun - mainly because I haven’t been reading much in the last few weeks, so revisiting my favourites for this has been an absolute blast. 

I’m a soft bean and while I will read and enjoy angsty tropes on occasion, you’ll more likely find me searching for wholesome stories. And smut. So, here is a handful of favourites for my most sought-after tropes. I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I do!

87 krang!!

Krang is so interesting. The main thing to me is power-motivated. His quest for power in dimension x gets him banished to earth. I don't remember if we ever learn the details but it also in some way got him to his current predicament, reduced to a talking brain, has to do favors for Shredder trying to bribe him to make him a new body.

I just watched this ep actually, or part of it, I had to pause, but the conversation in episode 2, when Krang is "I have provided you with tech and you still have not upheld your end of the bargain"

And Shredder knows him so well already. Kindred spirits truly. Because his response: if you have a body you'll be unstoppable, if you're unstoppable I can't stop you, if I can't control you you'll betray me.

And he's right. Shredder's main goal is to destroy the turtles, Krang works against this goal as soon as it benefits him (I haven't gotten to that part yet so I might be remembering it a bit sideways).

It's just so interesting. He's such a dangerous ally, but one Krang wants because he provides so much. In the very same conversation, we get this exchange

Shredder: You've got a wonderful brain, Krang

Krang: Of course I do! It's all I've got.

nsbajdjjskwaqpwow. Okay WOW. He's literally been reduced to almost nothing but he'a clinging to what's his and pressing his advantage.

Which also brings up another interesting motivation: possession. He wants the earth, and any other world he can take. He wants a body. In a way the Technodrome is a bigger body suit, and he is very attached to it. Most of the things he wants make sense, but it's the level of obsession: something to power the Technodrome, a power ring, a new weapon. He knows how to turn Things into Power.

(and he wants to possess and have power over shredder)

And it's the way that it slowly becomes more and more about here and now. Early on he strikes me as the bigger threat in spite of helping the turtles when it benefits him, because he was biding his time, building up resources, making a plan. Always focused on the future, a future where, because of his weaponry, he exercises total power over the whole world.

But he has to depend on Shredder. He gets comfortable. He has a more focused obsession. It's so excellent because it's not a redemption arc. They're both still scheming, but they get in each other's way so much and become so close that they're less and less of a threat. Krang's arc to me is so centered around Shredder. I mean, hard not to become obsessed with the guy who built your body, picked you up off the streets when you were literally powerless, even and in Krang's case especially if you absolutely know he was doing it for his own gain (ruthlessness is attractive to him).

Also the fact that the Technodrome becomes his home. The way it's an extension of himself. much fascinate

For the WIP game, I have to ask about Mistaken and Well, This is New (very intriguing title).

Mistaken: reader is in a library, and so is Daniel Jackson. Reader mistakes Daniel as one of the librarians and asks him if he can help them find something they're looking for. He's more than happy to help. Cue this going on for a handful of weeks before he asks them out to dinner where he finally admits he's not actually an employee, he's just visited the place so much he's memorized the place; the two of them bond over this with some laughter

Well, This Is New: Reid and reader are spending the day together. They're visiting local museums, art galleries, whatever strikes their fancy. They come across a small, local museum full of gizmos found around the area. Reader accidentally activates one that makes them invisible, and they immediately bring their boyfriend (Daniel Jackson) onto the scene to help. It'll be Reid's introduction into SG-1's world of weird, basically.

The song commonly called Flight of the Bumblebee comes from a fantastic Russian opera call The Tale of Tsar Saltan.  In it, one of the characters is changed into a bumblebee in order to safely hide in a ship to visit his father.  The song is used again for the Green Hornet's radio show.  For the crime fighter's tv show debut, the song is arranged by Billy May, making Bumblebee flashier and brassier.  While I think the original song is over-done, May's is a wonderful earrowrm.

sorry these always take so long, I want to be able to listen to the tune a few times usually and that gets difficult when life is happening.

This is a cool performance of it, I really dig the dudes horn.

Bit about the origin of the tune takes me back to 1812 overture and people screaming and yelling at me that it was connected to the same battle that inspired Francis Scott Key's 'Star Spangled Banner'

Several issues with that first being that battle was in 1814 (during the war of 1812 yes I know) and the really big one being why the hell would composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky be writing about a battle in the US when he could be writing about the Russian defense against Napoleon and with a name like that it's a fair question.

It's ok tho, it's got explosions and it's not a commie song so we can use it too, cus this is Muricah.

ooo that is a tough question. Because there is ONE that I am very particular about that I polish as much as I can and THEN send it to a beta for help. Everything else? Its lucky if it gets a second read through. Im here for fun, not to stress. That includes all the typos because I typed so fast or weird repeats of words because my brain went wandering off and everything else attached to it though.

75: Do you know how your story ends before you start writing?

Sometimes yes, but its very rare. Usually I just let the plot take me where it wants to go. I have one story I haven't posted that is about 30k words but I havent shared it at all because I have 0 clue what to do with it or where it should go.

99: Was being a writer a dream of yours when you were little?

Absolutely not. I had 0 aspirations or drive for anything except for the one person in my life who I thought would always be there and from that sentence alone you can guess how that ended up lol.

Aspirations and drive came in the form of... well... its a tale for another time. And hopefully while you haven't eaten anything.
