thinking about depressed!reader who puts on a facade persona while hidden beneath it is someone desperate to disappear from the face of this earth. hawks is an observant man, always on constant alert, he's intelligent and it's no surprising he could definitely see through your fake persona you put infront of friends you hang out with because he relates to you. hawks is the cheerful, laid back and cocky hero while keigo is the clingy one who craves for your attention, your affection, your touch, your voice and your love, he craves for your everything and keigo is vulnerable without you. but what if it's his little bird whose vulnerable? you put on a facade smile and laugh whenever you're with people including hawks. once you're alone, you wipe out all the positive emotions in you before questioning your life existence and curling up in a ball, crying until your eyes become heavy and you fall asleep. keigo had never received affection in his childhood, him and his family never talked about their feelings, he is completely oblivious to comforting someone and is mostly the one being comforted by you, and you know that. whenever he sees you vulnerable and broken, his heart breaks into a million pieces and he's incredibly sad but this isn't about him. it's about you. he does everything in his power to make you feel better even if it's just doing a simple thing, you appreciate it because you know he's there for you. whenever you're curled up in a ball while laying in bed or just sitting down, he would come behind you and hugged you tightly while his scarlet wings covered the both of you as if he was shielding you from the outside. whenever you're too tired to do anything, he does all house chores, he cooks all the food he knows and brings it to you but not without putting a goofy show or dance to make you smile or laugh at his cute self. he also cuddles right after while whispering sweet nothings in your ear. whenever you're telling yourself horrible words, he would hold you close while keeping you away from all the negative things you say by replacing it with positive ones, reminding you of how great of a person you truly are and all the nice things you done in your life. all the happy things you told him, he was reminding you about it. he makes you remember all the happy things even if it's a small one and it always brings a smile to your and keigo's face whenever you add another thing at the story he reminds you. whenever you're feeling lonely because he is busy with his hero work, he leaves a feather with you so you wouldn't be lonely. the feather would fly and brush your skin or tickle you at times, whenever you cried and he wasn't there, he would fly the feather and have it wipe the tears flowing down your cheeks, reminding you that he's always with you. one of your favorite moments with keigo is when you had a camp on a mountain, nothing bothering your sweet time with keigo as you stargazed with him, telling him of all the constellations and distant galaxies out there in the universe until you fell asleep in the warmth of his arms as his eyes gazed at your relaxed face like all the stress inside you was slowly decaying as he brushed his hand in your hair before whispering;

“look at you, babybird.. tired of life but still living. I'm so proud of you.”

sometimes you think that you want to disappear but all you really want is to be found.

These 3 pages are titled "Lost and Found". It's not rly related to any particular event in the story (it's just the aftermath of a mission here) But i'd probably situate it after chapter 8 with the whole Camu ordeal. merrill truly will incessantly worry she's stupid and missing the point all the time and then take you out with the most beautifully worded and compassionate breakdown of the thematic spine of DA2 you've ever heard. no actually daisy I think you're the only one getting the point here slowly but surely

especially this one, actually: (also why I could see how bioware would bring merrill into DA:D on solas' side, but also I really really don't want them to because her arc is just -- it's just incredible and I don't want them to mess with it lol)

merrill dragon age isn't The Character in terms of being the guy with the juiciest backstory details or protagonist material but she is The Person. The Heart. she was working on one of the most important researches of elven history and no one believed in her. not her keeper, her teacher and mother figure. nor her clan, the only family she's ever had. nor hawke's friends, the only people who were surrounding her for six years. the only person who can actually place their faith in her is hawke but if they don't she won't mind. she is used to it, being on her own. and, despite everything, she believes in people. she knows it matters. better than anyone.

she has never heard a nice word from fenris, but she still tries to cheer him up from time to time. she has never heard a nice word from anders either and she still feels for him. varric annoys her when he tries to distract her from the eluvian, but she appreciates it because she knows he means well. aveline refers to her work as senseless and potentially dangerous for the city, but she is still happy for her when she falls in love.

if hawke sides with mages in the last straw merrill is the first to support them. "I believe in you, hawke", she says, when everyone else is consumed by doubt. and then she's the only one who openly suggests sparing anders. so he can put things right.

she knows the feeling. when you're on your own and everyone thinks you're beyond salvation, undeserving of compassion or understanding. and this is the best she can offer for people she cares about: her unconditional faith, her sympathy, a second chance. the things she was desparately looking for and never had. she believes in people because she knows: there's no one else to believe in them
