hii!! im buffporcupine but this is my rp blog!! i’ll use it occasionally since i won’t post many starters, but i’ll use this blog for rps as to not clutter my main.

a bnha gen 2 oc! his parents are eraserhead and all might! his power is really cool and im proud of it. when he touches someone, it temporarily deactivates their quirk, and he has access to use their quirk. he can borrow more than one quirk at a time, but it decreases the amount of time he can hold the quirks. his quirk does not work on heteromorphic quirks.

Hi! What are your favourite designs in Rwby, HxH, BSD and BNHA? And why? Is it only because you like it aesthetically or there is also them being somehow important for characterization? Thanks!

Hi, so I don't pay as much attention to this as I could, symbolically speaking. So sometimes it's aesthetics and sometimes it's symbolic! I’ll do a quick run-through.

Bungo Stray Dogs

Akutagawa, Atsushi, Gin, Q, Sigma, Gogol, Jouno

Akutagawa and Atsushi

I love their opposition. Atsushi’s outfit and physical features emphasize white, Akutagawa’s black. Even their abilities do this--white tiger and black void; living and dead, unconscious and conscious. Atsushi’s tiger is white with black stripes while Akutagawa has strips of white at the tips of his hair. Atsushi is more closed off and hides his darker side, while Akutagawa is less so, but it’s harder to notice. Even if you look at the angles in their designs, you can see duality: they both have uneven hair, but Atsushi’s is cut bluntly (look at the edges), while Akutagawa’s is more angular, which fits with their personalities. Their eyes too--their eyes reveal the truth not just about themselves but about each other. Akutagawa’s are gray: they are both mixtures of black and white. Atsushi’s are the colors of sunset, referencing their mentor (Dazai, the author of The Setting Sun), and the hope and other beautiful qualities they both have.

Gin

Gin’s design stood out to me from her first appearance. I love how androgynous she looks to where I really assumed she was a guy until, of course, the fantastic reveal that she’s Aku’s sister. She’s tough and edgy, but she has a tender heart--she wears a coat reminiscent of her brother’s, and covers her mouth to conceal her true thoughts (and she definitely has them. Beast, the light novel, reveals just how brilliant Gin is). 

Gogol and Jouno

I just like their designs. These are mostly aesthetic, in Gogol’s clownery and Jouno’s visual impairment, though the latter is far more symbolic. 

Jouno may be blind, but in a lot of ways he’s the most self-aware Hunting Dog and a brilliant callout of law enforcement--without dehumanizing cops at the same time. His constant smile is also unnerving given his sadism. 

Sigma and Q

Okay so I like duality in designs. But Sigma is basically grown-up, sane Q, and I’m excited to see where this foiling goes. Like, really, Sigma is functionally Fyodor and Gogol’s “kid” while Q is Dazai and Chuuya’s (not literally, in terms of caring for/training but not mentoring exactly). 

Rwby

Emerald, Ruby, Oscar, Ren, Yang, Salem, Sienna

Emerald Sustrai

I can’t lie, this is partially due to Emerald’s resemblance to one of my favorite characters of all time (TGre’s Mutsuki Tooru). I also like her original design’s earthy tones, as it emphasizes the “earth” element in her character (Emerald’s last name can mean “thief” “roots” aka earth or “undercurrent” aka water, which opposes her to Mercury’s air and fire). That her design has become black and white with a jewel on the back and an actual red stone necklace is actually a fitting upgrade, though: she’s becoming more and more refined, undergoing the process to become a philosopher’s stone. 

Ruby and Oscar (and Yang)

Again, I love the complimentary duality in their designs (Oscar’s gold eyes to Ruby’s silver, etc). They’re also just really lovely aesthetically. Also, I have a thing for cool eye designs. In cast that wasn’t like, already abundantly clear. 

On the note of the eyes, I love Yang’s design on the sheer fact that her eyes turn red. I also love how this symbolizes her semblance, and how her semblance weaponizes her pain. 

Ren, Sienna

This is mostly aesthetic. I adore Ren’s feminine warrior look down to his pink/purple eyes, and Sienna had one of the coolest designs which was such a shame when it got pretty much wasted. 

Salem

I love Salem’s design both pre and post corruption. Her villainous look is unique and terrifying, yet beautiful in its own way. 

BNHA

Shouto, Dabi/Touya, Jirou, Uraraka, Hawks, Ibara, Geten, Shigaraki

Shouto

Look again, I mcfreakin’ love duality in designs. I also love elemental stuff. His scar over his fire side representing his pain, and his ice side representing his repression... it’s well done, and it’s also the kind of design that provokes questions as soon as you see him. Like, before he got his backstory or any development, his mere design provoked questions. He’s excellently done, and that’s why it’s cool he actually only uses his first name for his hero name, and he wears ordinary training outfits instead of an elaborate costume: his design do the intrigue for us, and his using his name ties in thematically with his identity struggles. 

Dabi/Touya 

I love the man’s design okay, and not purely aesthetically (though let’s face it, that face? I-- lol). But I love how he cannot cry, but when he cries, he cries blood. I love how his scars are literally holding him together, symbolizing how his pain keeps him functioning yet also limits him. He wears his pain on his sleeve. 

Also, the hair. I’ve delved into this a bit before, but it starts off red, decays into white, and then he disguises it with dye as black--alchemy in reverse, a nihilixir as Dabi, cremation, a chaotic villain. But now that he’s revealed as Touya, he has white hair again--becoming more his true self. I am very, very curious if he’ll eventually go back to red, or at least have red sprinkled in (as Hori has drawn him this way in official art!) as he becomes Touya Todoroki again and reconciles with his family. 

Jirou, Uraraka, Hawks, Ibara, Geten

These are all mostly aesthetic. Uraraka’s actually fits her personality and quirk (soft and loving, yet tough), but it hasn’t been capitalized on. Geten is much the same--it’s interesting to have someone oppose Dabi who looks like his mom, but nothing’s been done with that, so. Sigh. I’m also a sucker for bird people, so Hawks is like, awesome for that. Ibara’s design is fascinating and original. 

Shigaraki

Again, some of this is aesthetics and some is symbolic. The hands covering him show us from his introduction two things: firstly, that he’s hard to get to know, and secondly, that he’s being controlled. He wears a symbol of what he cannot do--touch people without fear--and of his past trauma literally as armor. Even without the hands, he’s seeking more armor through AFO’s quirk, instead of relying on himself. 

HxH

Illumi, Komugi, Hisoka, Chrollo, Kurapika, Kalluto, Machi, Feitan, Morena

Komugi

Again, eyes. But also I love how she is not beautifully put together, but when she opens her eyes to play shogi, she is stunning. She’s a fascinating take on Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and her death with Meruem’s lingers as the most beautiful and poignant and sad death in fiction I’ve ever seen. 

Kurapika, 

EYES. But also his ability with chains fit so well and opposes Chrollo’s religious imagery. 

Chrollo and Morena

Their religious imagery I find intriguing, especially given that they both control groups of twelve. Chrollo, too, is starting to learn that having a god-like power and a book of other’s nen abilities as his own doesn’t give him any answers to who he himself is--and if human, then he’s vulnerable (hence why he wears a coat but no shirt at the start of the Yorknew Arc: he doesn’t fear vulnerability because he doesn’t feel huma; it’s an interesting twist on this idea, because usually characters who are not vulnerable cover themselves up). Morena’s backstory as the illegitimate daughter scarred by her own father is rife for possible foiling and thematic exploration. 

Hisoka, Machi, and Feitan

Aesthetics lol. I loveHisoka’s insane clown look (hair-down Hisoka is too hot),  Feitan’s goth look,  and Machi’s simple yet efficient design.The clown get up obviously fits Hisoka symbolically--he plays the trickster role, and can be an antagonist or a villain or an antihero depending on what the story calls for. Yet, he remains perfectly in character throughout. 

Feitan looks more like what you’d expect from a character who isn’t very vulnerable: covers his mouth with a scary symbol, barely speaks, etc. But it’s still effective. 

Illumi and Kalluto 

Actually all the Zoldycks have designs I love, but Illumi and Kalluto have my favorites. Kalluto because EYES, but also because he’s gender-nonconforming as well and uses this to his advantage. He seems to dress and act to please his mother, and yet also is pretty dangerous. However, what he uses as a weapon is beauty--fans, paper, etc. The broken papers can be used to defend himself and to lash out. There’s a ton of symbolism waiting to be unpacked there... if we ever get it...

Illumi is basically the perfect Zoldyck assassin, which is what makes him tragic. His eyes emphasize this: they are blank voids. However, through his design, contrasted with his siblings, we notice a pattern.

It’s not a coincidence that the child chosen to lead the Zoldycks in the next generation is not the eldest nor the most efficient and Zoldyck-esque assassin. It’s the one who physically resembles Silva, while the two elder ones who most resemble their mother are pushed aside. The irony is Alluka resembles Silva more than any sibling except Killua (at least in the eyes), which may be in part why Silva hates Alluka (along with like, the transphobia, ableism, and general fact that Silva is The Worst). 

Illumi might be the perfect Zoldyck heir, but he’ll never be acknowledged as it for factors he cannot control. It’s a futile endeavor that adds to the pain.

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)

hm well i'm not too acquainted w/ the bsd fandom like even the slightest bit at all so idk exactly how (under)appreciated this character is but i kinda just have a feeling about it, but kunikida! i rlly like him and he makes me feel rlly happy in a way i don't quite understand yet... fuck man, i even kinda feel like i myself don't appreciate him enough! i need to focus on him more!

au where gin is the queen of the underworld, just this ethereal being who drags shadows everywhere they go, and where tachihara is the ferryman. they're both busy with their jobs, but they meet once in a while, at the coast, at the passover of souls to different realms. and maybe the akutagawa siblings are like the two sides of death—one silent, and the other violently loud. but always there, somehow, even when you don't realise it. and everyone is afraid of them, for no reason other than they are darkness personified and everyone is scared of the dark.

Kirishima - Hit Me by Fit For Rivals 

Likes anything that sounds heavy. Hiphop with a deep bass, any song where someone is screaming. Royal Blood, RAGTM, and Brockhampton seem like some of his go to artists. That Start a Riot song by Duckwrth is in his top five. Soft spot for Patsy Cline because I said so. 

Sero - Rosalie by MG 

I've seen a lot of Hispanic head cannons for him, and as a fellow Latino I love this. I think he'd have one of those really long "low rider oldies" type of playlist. Him and Denki probably get along well music wise. 

Asui - All I Want by Toad The Wet Sprocket 

I get a Fleetwood Mac, Electric Light Orchestra, Elton John, The Zombies kinda vibe from her. Oh she definitely loves Queen to. I think her and Deku also share the same stroke for stuff like the Gin Blossoms, Jellyfish and Pavement. 

Mina - Y.A.L.A. by M.I.A

Hot girl music. Le Tigre, Flo Milli, 7 Year Bitch, Rico Nasty. If there is ever a situation where the class gets to listen to music she is in charge because she knows what everyone likes and keeps the perfect mood . Loves to dance no matter what song it is. Plays L7 when she's getting ready and Kirishima likes to sit in.

Sato - Gimme Love by Joji

A$AP Rocky, Tyler The Creator, Rich Brian, Kevin Abstract, Poetic Thrust. Don't know how to explain this but if he was on a basketball team they'd put on his playlist for pre game warm up. People love to go in his room and put music on while he bakes.

Deku - Surrounded by Silversun Pickups

Listens to this song to like fester his Bakugou scabs or something. Is someone to have a study playlist that's filled with Wun-Two. Other than lofi I think Deku is someone to like some 90s/2000s alt, a couple harder bands here and there. 

Todoroki - Ice Princess by Azealia Banks 

I don't really see him listening to music a lot. Probably like two playlists, one with songs he's just kinda stumbled into, and another one of songs he remembers from when he was younger. Green Day, Paramore, High Tyde? Everyone bands together to make him a recommendations playlist. The thing is like 9 hours long and a total wreck but he goes to sleep listening to it. 

Ojiro - (I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone by The Monkees

Beach Boys! Lovin Spoonful! The Beatles! Says he doesn't really like the stuff Hagakure listens to when she shows him her playlist. Is slowly morphed into a Britney Spears fan by her. Will occasionally lay out on the grass to listen to Rocketman and disassociate.

Kaminari - Let It Whip by Dazz Band 

Don't know how or why but he totally feels like he'd be into disco? Not like exclusively? I think he'd love how fun it sounds. Saw someone else on Spotify who thought the same, so thanks for seeing the vision. Probably puts on some tunes to dance to when he thinks someone's down in the dumps. Love the idea of him forcing Bakugou to dance. 

Shoji - Cooler Than Me by Ethan Fields 

I think he listens to a lot of covers and remixes. LOVES POP GOES PUNK. Gets a rush of energy when he can figure out what sample someone used on a song. I think he'd be into stuff like Remo Drive? Thoughts?

Yaoyorozu - Glitter by Charly Bliss 

Sidney Gish, Peach Pit, Polar Boys, Wallows. I think she probably grew up going to the symphony because she had the wealth to. Into musicals for the same reason, definitely embarrassed about the musical thing though. Day dreams about being in Grease.

Iida - Here It Goes Again by OK Go 

Cage the elephant, CAKE, Weezer. Listens to music by song rather than album,artist, or genre. Probably following all of those music by the decades playlists, just wants to know what the hell is going on. Very caught up on the top songs in every genre.

Uraraka - Hands - readymade JBL mix 2000 by m-flo

I think this has her general vibe and it also fits with her ability aswell. Generally speaking I think her taste of music is more chilled. Lots of R&B, some Aquadolls, probably listens to a throwback 2000s playlist to get hyped. Like to imagine that she puts on Kesha when she trains with Gunhead and he knows all the words. 

Bakugou - Pressure In My Palms by Amine 

Reason this stupid post is being made. The song is too perfect for this dude. Like. Listen and you'll understand. Probably super good at sorting his music. Very basic playlist names though.
