rules: pick an artist or band and share your favorite song from each of their albums, then tag some mutuals!
To celebrate seeing Ween recently, I thought this would be fun! It was so hard for some of these to pick just one, so I put two :)
GodWeenSatan: The Oneness - Don't Laugh (i Love You)
The Pod - Demon Sweat
Pure Guava - Don't Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy)
Chocolate and Cheese - Joppa Road or A Tear For Eddie
12 Golden Country Greats - I'm Holding You
The Mollusk - Pink Eye (On My Leg) or Ocean Man
White Pepper - Stay Forever or Pandy Fackler
Quebec - The Argus (all of these songs are perfection)
La Cucaracha - Your Party

Ween: White Pepper
Tumblr media
1Definitely the chillest of the Ween catalogue, White Pepper tends to be overlooked when people bring up the band's history. Oh sure, ignore the Trey Parker and Matt Stone directed music video for Even If You Don't, ignore the surprisingly polished nature of the record and ignore the fact that this is Lie Likes Music's favorite music album. Just ignore Lie like all the others. He just has his own pet pig, that's all...
Time to begin the end with Ween's penultimate studio album.
1. Exactly Where I'm At
An awesome "I'm a rock star" song that manages to be introspective without getting too angsty. Nice guitar work with some great yarling by Gene.
10/10
2. Flutes of Chi
Some nice experimentation from the Boognish followers. Feels like something you can play to drown out the music at the airport. We should use this track to fill in the void left by the Hare Krishnas. Who's with me?
11/10
3. Even If You Don't
Love Martyrs, eat your hearts out. You don't really love your partner until you're willing to have your throat slit by them, your bacon eating by them and letting them cheat on you with a horse. Famous cheated on divorcee Trey Parker directed the music video for this song with Matt Stone. Wonder what attracted him to the project...
10/10
4. Bananas and Blow
A nice desert island theme about doing coke. This song manages to sound great on the album but you haven't really heard it until you heard it live. I highly recommend purchasing a ticket to a Ween show to check it out.
135/10
5. Stroker Ace
Another good metal pastiche from the boys. No one can resist the allure of Stroker Ace and no creature can fight the awesomeness of Dean's shredding. Get ready to fuck something up with this track on.
9/10
6. Ice Castles
A great instrumental track that draws you in and makes you imagine you are entering a place of great royalty. Disney can't take this away from us, at least.
10/10
7. Back To Basom
Another venture into the dramatic realm with Gene describing depressing scenarios to musical accompaniment by some guys named Ween. I think of the dancer who has lost her legs on a weekly basis.
11/10
8. The Grobe
Hard rock is back with Gene's legendary garbled voice delivering a spiel about how we all end up hiding our hearts to keep from getting hurt. Pretty emotional stuff for such a hard song. Is Gene okay?
11/10
9. Pandy Fackler
Classiest way to listen to a song about sucking dick. Ah, the life of groupies. They really should start their own recordings and start dragging these musicians. It will be awesome to watch.
8/10
10. Stay Forever
Probably the best song to sing to your significant other to make it official. Definitely more serious than "Don't Laugh, I Love You" and probably the straightest love song the guys have done...up to this point. Sweet tune for your sweetest treat.
10/10
11. Falling Out
Nice country-inspired tune about...whatever you want to mad at. A friend, an ex, a bad workplace...anytime you wanna give a fuck you to something or someone you're leaving, put this on and flip off the burning bridge.
11/10
12. She's Your Baby
A track where something is happening...I don't know. It sounds calm and romantic but when you look up the lyrics, it feels you with a strange sense of unease...
9/10
Album Score: 18/10
Next week, we review the final Ween studio album La Cucaracha and there will be a major change to the blog's format.
See you then.

"Being born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands, I spent a lot of time connecting with and enjoying the ocean. Those experiences have completely shaped the person I am today, as well as provided me a strong conservation ethic. I love my job, because I get to bring awareness of America's underwater treasures and promote ocean conservation and stewardship to the next generation of leaders in our country."
This Sunday, and throughout the coming months, we'll be bringing you a little ocean optimism from our staff and volunteers. They'll be sharing what inspires them about the ocean and what they do to help protect it! Today's inspiration comes from Claire Fackler, our national volunteer coordinator.

DO U KNOW HIS STORY? Caldonia Fackler “Calvin” Johnson (1844-1925) Cal Johnson's track from enslavement to speedways Cal Johnson's remarkable life began in Knoxville. When Johnson died, he was one of the richest black men in the South, famous for owning saloons, race tracks, and some of the world's finest horses. Born [en]slaved in 1844. The son of Harriet and Cupid Johnson. When he died in 1925, Johnson was one of the wealthiest black men in the South. He made a fortune as the owner of saloons, race tracks, and real estate holdings. Johnson was known as a gentleman who was quietly generous with his wealth. Johnson's claim to fame beyond East Tennessee came from him ownership of some of the South's finest racehorses. Newspapers across the country covered his death with headlines that referred to Johnson as a "Negro Horse Owner" and "Wealthy Negro Horse Racer." "It was very common in those days for black men to race and ride horses. The first jockey to win the Kentucky Derby in 1875 was a black man named Oliver Lewis. Around a dozen black men were winning jockeys in the Kentucky Derby until after the turn of the century when blacks were not welcome anymore," said Robert J. Booker, historian. "It was much less common for a black man to own expensive racehorses like Cal Johnson did." Cal Johnson's role in business and horse racing left a lasting impact on the landscape of Knoxville. Several buildings still bear his name and a neighborhood in East Knoxville was truly shaped by his love of horses. "The street Speedway Circle was built on Johnson's horse track," said Booker. "There are people who don't know the neighborhood was a race track. Then you point out it is in the shape of an oval and they go, 'Oh, I see!' Johnson was known for his politeness and tact. He tipped his hat in public to both men and women. A 1926 Knoxville newspaper article said old-timers remember the Poplar Log as "one of the most decently conducted places in the city." It closed earlier than most saloons on Saturday nights and did not serve alcohol on Sundays. He did not sell liquor to minors or to customers who were already drunk. White Pepper- Ween
White Pepper is an alternative rock, psychedelic rock album by the rock group Ween. Ween’s album came out May 2, 2000 from Elektra Records. This album was Ween’s seventh full length album and was the last album of theirs that would be released by Elektra Records. White Pepper is one of Ween’s most recognized albums. A few of the singles include the songs “Even If You Don’t”, “Stay Forever”, and “Pandy Fackler”. White Pepper made it on the US Billboard 200 placing 121 and reached number 2 on Heatstreeks.
//
This one of my favorite albums. I love this album with my whole heart. One of my good friends recommended this album to me a few months ago and at first I was sketched out about it. I mean, the cover art is a white Pepper *hints the name*. He told me to give it a chance, so I did exactly that. I downloaded the album and put headphones in and listened to the entire album. I feel in love with the album instantly. A few of my favorite songs include “Flutes of Chi” and “Even If You Don’t”. I think my favorite thing about the album is that it has such a soothing tone to it. Most of the songs on here give off a relaxing vibe which helps my anxiety. It is also a plus that the singers voice is perfect as well. I highly recommend this album. It’s a great listen and you won’t regret it. A handful of the songs are a little weird, but all you have to do is look past it.

Month 12:  Professional Practice
The end of the Media Design Master of Fine Arts program is approaching as Month 12 wraps up. It is a truly surreal feeling—after this assignment, there are no academic requirements. It is a bitter sweet end. After all my hard work, I finally obtained a Graphic Designer position at the Auburn Document Centre. It is part time, but it is a start. I am graduating with potentially high honors, according to my liaison. I am finally getting back into programs and events with the museum as I look for full time work within a non-profit or community based organization. However, as amazing as this program has been and all the doors it has opened, I find myself questioning if I had made this step at the right time. My grandmother would be upset if she knew I had that thought; but I wonder if I lost what could potentially be her last year on earth due to academic ambitions. Cancer was something I hoped I could avoid. Unfortunately, it found her.
Having just gotten off the phone with her, I know she is proud of me. I know that she does not think I have wasted my time. I also know that she would want me to do it even if we knew the circumstances a year ago. Therefore, it is my goal to finish the program strong.
Over the last month, a variety of ethical and moral reasoning topics have been covered as well as understanding and executing an Experience Map. For this month, the three biggest takeaways include: Reflection and Experience Mapping, Importance of Copyright, and Marketing to Children.
Takeaway #1: Reflection and Experience Mapping
Adaptive Paths writes that the “[h]uman experience is complex, and mostly intangible. Yet the challenge of experience mapping is to uncover, little by little, critical information about your… experiences” (pg. 9). For this course, the purpose was to discover the peaks and valleys of my journey through the Media Design Master of Fine Arts Program at Full Sail University. For me, the process of obtaining my Master’s has strained all parts of my being.
My mother, who had always been my biggest supporter, told me to quit the program because she found it to be a pointless endeavor. She and one of my sisters often discussed with my other siblings that I was making the “same mistake Matt did”. Matt, being the only other sibling who has obtained a Master’s, who also happens to be the assistant facilities manager at the UC Davis Center for Aquatic Biology and Agriculture. If having a job in my dream field is considered a mistake—sign me up.
To ensure I maintained good grades, I cut back on work. I had become so financially strained that I was talking about having to take a break from the program. My boyfriend offered to let me use his internet instead of taking a break. This, however, lead to me neglecting my incredibly affection Sophie cat. Probably the hardest part of the entire program was knowing that I was hurting her by not being around and recognizing that I would be a better pet owner by sending her to my sister’s house until after I finished the program. Although I lacked the internet bill, I was still financially unstable and I had to give up my apartment. Luckily, my boyfriend has allowed me to stay with him and we are looking for a house to move into by June so I can be reunited with Sophie.
In my 29 years, I never experienced four deaths in less than a year. My best friend also happens to be my ex-boyfriend and I had become very close to his grandparents and they both passed within 4 months of each other after 72 years marriage. During Christmas vacation, my sister-in-law lost her father and my youngest siblings lost their mother. It was hard to focus on school when all I wanted was to comfort my family and friends. However, as trying as those times were for me, it did not prepare me for my grandmother’s illness.
Thinking back on all of these awful experiences over the past 12 months, I reflect on Alyssa’s statement in her feedback of my Experience Map: “The “thinking” and “feeling” bar graphs showed more negative aspects than the “doing” graphs, which proves that as a designer, you cannot let your mind or emotions defeat you in the process of designing new material” (Kukonik, 2017). In terms of my successes over the past 12 months, I have learned to design within multiple programs including: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and KeyNote. I have elevated my design techniques and capabilities through extensive and reliable research. My ability to present ideas and projects has prepared me for educational opportunities within a future career in a non-profit. Most importantly, with some help from Prof. Argo, I have developed Creative Confidence.
Creative confidence is the quality that human-centered designers rely on when it comes to making leaps, trusting their intuition, and chasing solutions that they haven’t totally figured out yet. It’s the belief that you can and will come up with creative solutions to big problems and the confidence that all it takes is rolling up your sleeves and diving in. – David Kelly, Founder of IDEO
My Experience Map showcases my whole experience. I began my academic career as a darkroom photograph major, which is why the foundation is based on negatives and images. I went to Wells for my Bachelors of Art and as a requirement, I did an internship at the Cayuga Museum—the driving force behind my enrollment at Full Sail. My internship consisted of me organizing through thousands of historical photographs and negatives and properly storing them. During this internship, I developed a love for the museum and I went from intern, to volunteer, to Docent, and am now the Curatorial Assistant. The first exhibit I did on my own, believe it or not, was on glass plate negatives and prints. I chose to use the photograph style, not only because of its history and connection to my journey—the ability to use an alternative bar graph was a better representation of my Full Sail experience, as Alyssa pointed out.

Project Version 1: Issues: No legend, large chunks of text.
Tumblr media
Project Version 2: Included legend. But overall concept not explained thoroughly.
Tumblr media
Project Version 3: Fixed the large chunks of text with quick bullet information. However, the lines are clearly defined.
Tumblr media
Project Version 4: Included pens and highlighters along with highlighted information to give the overall theme a ‘in progress’ look and feel. Also, changed ‘negative’ and ‘photograph’ all to month to avoid misunderstanding with the word ‘negative’.
Tumblr media
Final Version: Adjusted the pens and highlighters to better define the lines by reinforcing the pathways rather than cluttering them up.
Takeaway #2: Importance of Copyright
As a designer it is imperative to understand the importance of copyright. According to the Copyright Office, original and creative property of designers is protected under both the 1976 Copyright Act and the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act, both of which are grounded in the US Constitution for published and unpublished work (Copyright). Therefore, when creating work for a client, they only own the reproduction rights and the designer retains the copyright. This includes every creative outlet from illustrations, photographs, fonts, traditional arts, and more.
Also, it is important to understand that when creating work for a client, you are participating in a transaction. It is imperative to keep everything documented to protect the designer’s rights and ownership by clearly outlining intellectual property in legal contracts and agreements (AIGA, 2009). This creates an understanding between the designer and client that eliminates potential legal issues.
However, as Yerzil discusses, there are common trends within the industry that lead to inspirations and an understanding that copying elements is permissible if it is conducted in moderation (2015). This concepts falls under what AIGA (2009) considers as ‘Fair Use’—“limited exception to the exclusive power of the designer … to control the uses of designs” (pg. 82). Essentially, taking elements and inspirations is permitted, however, using tracing paper over the whole piece is not.
Should one commit copyright infringement, there are several legal punishments that he or she could be faced with. This includes paying for damages, reimbursing profits that were made by infringer or lost by artist, a fee up to $150,000 per infringed work, paying all legal fees, impoundment of illegal pieces, and incarceration of the infringer (Copyright Infringement, 2017).
  Takeaway #3: Marketing to Children
My dream position would be Creative Director or Head of Development for a small (preferably local based) museum. Therefore, it is imperative to have and understanding of what is and is not permissible when marketing to children. During this course, it was discovered that in the US if the advertisement could not be confused with neither entertainment nor editorials, organizations could market to children 12 and younger—unlike most countries (Snyder, 2011).
Children are an ideal audience to target. Ultimately, children 14 and younger make up three separate markets equaling more than $200 billion. By marketing to children, clients develop a ‘cradle-to-grave’ consumer by implanting brand loyalty into their cores. However, this leads to age compression because marketers targeting children lure them with the concept of ‘adult’ activities and choices. Today, items that were once marketed to teenagers are now focused on tweens. (Christians, Fackler, Richardson, Kreshel, and Woods, 2015).
Snyder writes that “[a]dvertising ethics, however, must go a step above the law to ensure that consumers are treated appropriately” (pg. 478). Essentially, Snyder is stating that as designers, it is our obligation to respect that children are inexperienced, impressionable, and naïve; as well as, and more importantly, obligated to a happy and full childhood. Therefore, as a designer looking to work with the community, and children, it is imperative that I ensure the advertisement and design work created is clearly understood by children as either editorial for exhibits or advertisements for events and activities.

The Truths We Cling To
By Jason Fackler, Knorr Rhaad
“There is no passion, there is serenity.”
-Third tenet of The Code
You know, for a dispassionate calling, there is a ‘lot’ of passion within the Jedi community as I have seen it, and in certain circumstances, there isn’t anything wrong with that! One should be passionate about perhaps their hobbies, or their families, or perhaps their training. Heck, it’s completely understandable to get passionate about entertainment! In most (but not all) circumstances, Jedi, Sith, and others can be very passionate about all things Star Wars. Why not? It is the fictional representation and foundation for the conglomeration of many of the things we profess to believe.
When passion becomes a problem is when that passion blinds us to the ‘certain points of view’ of others. Though most of us would strive to be able to accept that we don’t all think alike, and that people with different points of view are still essentially ‘good’ people, there are some whose ideology is so far to one side or the other, that ANY disagreement makes the other party, by necessity, evil.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes, right? I’ve never really understood that statement made in convenience. The entire Jedi Code is five tenets of absolutes, grammatically and intentionally speaking, but that isn’t what this post is about. This post is about, for instance, people on the right demonizing all liberals as baby killers or everyone on the left pejoratively thinking of all conservatives as racists without knowing anything else about them. This is about Christians thinking anyone unsaved are morally bankrupt, while pagans and atheists judging all those who go to a Judeo-Christian place of worship as judgmental. It’s about those who believe Trump is a white supremacist because a white supremacist group endorsed him, which is roughly equivalent to saying one is racist if a Klu-Klux-Klan member and a random white person must be racist because they both like vanilla ice cream. It’s like saying all Bernie Sanders supporters rally to him because they are uneducated poor people who are jealous of millionaires and billionaires (Bernie, by the way, just admitted recently that he is, in fact, a millionaire).
We all have something to offer, and, except in rare cases, we have the best of intentions towards people even if we disagree on how to achieve that best, and we can discuss those differences and disagree without being hateful. To put this in perspective, I am admittedly and unabashedly, a conservative and Evangelical Christian who is active in my church and pray constantly to my God through His son, Jesus Christ, and yet I know upon reading this, there will be people who make judgements against me because of those things. And that’s fine. It’s their right. However, according to my creed:
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40).
It is my job, as a Christian, to love everyone, regardless of what their characteristics are. I think Anakin explained it well in SW: Ep 2, AotC, about loving unconditionally. I know that my training master, Jack Troutman, and fellow apprentice, Tiffanny Thorn, believe much differently. If I were ‘passionate’ about my political and religious belief to the point of fanaticism, I probably would not associate with either. However, I realize that both of them are important, and they matter and my life is enriched because I know them both.
I probably could not find a person more opposite to me than my apprentice sister, Tiffanny, who is a witch, unashamedly liberal, and has a few other qualities that I’m not sure she would be comfortable sharing in this public forum. Yet, from her, I get a unique point of view about the world. She was also a marine who studied kendo for several years, so I can benefit from her experience. And we can join together in our mutual love of Star Wars and the fact that we have both seen death up close and personal. We both know the look in a person’s eyes when the soul has just left the body. It is something that connects us, and yet we are not the same, and I don’t passionately hate her for her differences.
As Jedi, can we have peace, or knowledge, serenity or harmony if we limit ourselves to our ‘tribes’? Can we be one with The Force (as we know it)?
May the Force be with you all. May our paths meet where our points of light converge.

Monday, March 6, 2017 (Part II)
can't resist the temptation trying to remember what I wrote - I know it was about the eye doctor and the cataracts, his name pronounced Crew but spelled Khruh - wondering what kind of name - young, nice smile, slender, extremely efficient, perhaps a bit too fancy for me - he said special lenses not covered by medicare might bring back vision to 20/20 - in any event - it will cist me some money and before all is done it will be May 15 - and then I wrote for my hopes for my birthday party, for my renewed driver's licence without corrective lenses needed, for a lot of swimming and finally quoting my wonderful friend who died, Jahn Fackler, who said: for a moralist you are quite a hedonist. He was my student at Columbia and had just spent 5 of his young years as a Passionist monk - did write a play about it - alas also had trouble getting published and had a nervous breakdown. He came to live for years in an "Adult home", first by the sea in an old hotel, eventually On East 24th street, I kept seeing him - and he was my only listeners who weeks later would say: Marianne, I was thinking about what you said - and make a wise and kind comment. Title of a book: I would have saved them if I could - how I would have loved to save John - he smoked a lot and died of lung cancer. Rest in peace, my dear friend. This is more of less what I wrote and lost in the computer next to me. Adios again. Perhaps I also had written already more. Who knows.
