「 ✦ Flufftober Day 1: Chigiri Hyoma ✦ 」
☽。⋆Genre: Sour patch kids (angst to comfort)
☽。⋆ Warnings: you and chigiri have a fight :(
☽。⋆ Contains: gn!reader, angst, comfort
All it started with was a comment, and the situation was already escalating. You don't even remember what you said.
“Fine. If you don't want me here so bad, then I'll just leave.” You had told him.
Now you were curled up in your bed in your own house, crying and regretting what you said.
And fuck, it hurt being away from him. You didn't even know what you should say to him to apologize.
Your phone rang. Chigiri's caller ID flashed on the screen, and immediately you moved to answer it.
You hesitated, your finger hovering over the button before you slowly answered.
“Hello…?” You asked, your voice hoarse.
“Baby, where are you?” He asked.
“Home.” You replied.
“Can I come over? Please?” He asked.
“...” You paused. “...Okay.”
“Be right there.” Chigiri replied.
Within minutes, he showed up at your door. When you opened it, he immediately hugged you.
“Hyo—”
“I'm sorry.”
His desperate tone shocked you.
“What I said… I didn't mean it. I–I’m so sorry, (name).”
You hugged him back tighter.
“I'm sorry too. I didn't mean what I said.”
You stood in your doorway tangled together for a few more seconds before Chigiri spoke.
“So… are we good?”
You paused. “Yeah. We're good.”
“Thank god.” He said, kissing you. “I don't think I could go another second with you being mad at me.”

Speaking on the fatphobia, especially when pertaining to monsters like hill giants, it is definetly a WotC problem. Like, if the hill giants had any other trait then being described as mean, greedy, and overall just being unpleasant to be around then I’m pretty damn sure they would do better. Certainly doesn’t help that they tack on the whole “not all (x) are like this” while not giving any actual examples in their books.
Exactly. Most people read the description, and basically all of them are like "this is a horrible person who makes games out of torturing and killing people and doesn't believe in bathing. Also they're stupid and nobody likes them." at which point someone who's a "maybe" based on looks, even a solid smash, can become a "no." Though the depiction has a lot to do with it as well. Like, the hill giant in BGG is the same creature as the one in the MM, still supposed to have all the same traits, but like
Maybe it's because I'm a lesbian and the right is a top tier body shape, but I feel like there's a difference. The left one's slack jawed expression does it. he's waddling around in dirty underwear with a stick and a slack jawed expression while it talks about how stupid and mean he is. The right one (who we'll poll on later) actually has some intent, and it just talks about how they throw rocks while running people over and devouring them like a living avalanche. Granted, also a little less stupid with only a -1 on intelligence instead of -3. but it doesn't spend the whole time throwing shade. and I'm sure that'll do a lot better!

OC-tober day 27 - Fears
I'm back again on my bullsh*t🙏 i will ramble under the cut as always <3
Of course my bgg would never admit to it but yeah, just like literally everyone else in the world he has fears, both "silly" and deep subconscious ones as well. Yes, he tries to carry himself with confidence, taking on this "bold and fierce" persona full of charm but yeah after all, it's an act.
I mean, what would happen if someone got to have a little glance under that mask and see his real self? What about being found out as the worthless fraud he himself fears to be deep down? No wonder he's scared of intimacy and honesty that much (aka the reason all his relationships have gonne horribly wrong...) but nah, he would never admit being the reason it failed, he's prince charming you know? He's literally perfect. /j
#oc-tober#inktober#bweirdoctober#chris oc#ugh i feel weird skipping a whole week but i felt shy😭#sorry#god i love his dynamic with bonnie because of THIS they're both so different literal oposites but end up meeting at the middle akfbkf#he loves to dig down into people's drama and motivations during his hell-like interviews but lord forbid you do that to him🙄#morally grey king💖

Board Game Recommendations
Part 2
Inexpensive / small stocking stuffers:
Iota comes in a tiny box but it has a lot of challenge in there!
Savernake Forest is one of my favorite card games. Simple to understand and play, lots of fun.
Cartographers is one of my favorite games. A roll and write, meaning that basically an unlimited number of people can play it at the same time. So much fun. Plus it’s made by Thunderworks Games, based here in Madison and all the folks at Thunderworks are awesome.
Level 1 Games / Gateway games:
This is for people who are interested in games but don’t have a ton of experience yet.
Wingspan: takes a little time to understand it, but it does come with a starter pack to teach you how to play. One of the best games you can get: interesting, beautiful, plenty of opportunities for strategy. Note that some folks find it doesn’t have enough interaction between players.
Azul: easy to pick up and play, gorgeous components, some strategy without a lot of chance involved.
Cascadia: beautiful (same artist as Wingspan), plenty of strategy but not hard to learn or play.
There are many honorable mentions: Sagrada, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Calico, 7 Wonders. Also my deeply hated Catan, but I’m the only person who hates it.
Level 2 games:
This is a tough one. People who love games and like strategy games probably already have a lot. Usually I ask what people have enjoyed in the past to guide me to things they might really dig. But these are my personal favorites.
Ark Nova. I freaking love this game, and based on its BGG score, so do a lot of other people. It takes a while to learn and it’s a longer playing game (2-3 hours usually), but boy is it good.
Everdell: probably the best worker placement game out there. It’s absolutely gorgeous and usually well balanced. I never win, but it’s a joy to play.
Barcelona: one of my favorite games of the year. A middle-heavy weight game for complexity, with tons of opportunities for strategy. Love it.
There are so many honorable mentions: Clank!, Terraforming Mars, Bamboo. Again it depends on personal preference. Some people really love worker placement, others prefer area control or set building.
If you ever want recommendations, just ask! Please go to your local game store before Amazon, Target, or Walmart. There may be a smaller selection, but a better selection and good advice.

I wonder how much of the young twitter fans have affected things around bgg and even Larry to an extent. You have journalists or people in the media who have commented on things Louis has done and their timelines get flooded with responses about bgg and Larry. I’m sure these kids don’t mean ill but they’re acting like they’re doing something great when in fact they’re not. I can’t image trying to navigate a career with that minefield.
Nor can I. The atmosphere has changed enormously in the past few years. I don’t like the energy of the fandom anymore. I honestly think it’s much more difficult to find the joy here and I really do understand why so many people have left.

Since I see a lot of CBS headcanons, I decided '"Yk what? I'm gonna make myself some piss cakehole/cakehole piss headcanons because they need some love (I mean love I mean the 4 people that like these characters sitting in the back row) THIS IS SUPER LONG BTW BECAUSE THESE 2 BRAIN ROT ME EVERYDAY!!!!
Piss cakehole
•Despite being a absolutely menace to society murder, he’s very anti social. Like very anti going out with other freak friends (if he has any) or parties. Occasionally he’ll go to a friends place but that’s it. Kill. Sleep.Live.
•he actually Shockingly has a job, it’s Dairy Queen. He works night shifts because no one there wants be to around him but he doesn’t as long as someone doesn’t make him upset.
•He has curly hair you can’t fight me on it and he puts it in a curly man bun. (Bonus for salt and pepper hair)
•him and Cakehole are so identical, sometimes when their in good moods switch their outfits and pretend to be each other to pull pranks.
•Him and cakehole are actually the second oldest sniper freaks since being twins (around late 30’s. He’s mad at cakehole because he doesn’t age as much as him)
•He actually does care for cakehole and thinks as him as him as “his little brother” (their twins Ik but cakehole acts younger) but he finds annoying him around and often irritates him too the point he just wants to yank him. Cakehole is very aware and is on house arrest for that.
•he’s a stoner gay. Like hippie Artist gay. I’m talking 70’s belle bottoms and arched back. A feminine posing man. I’m talking cross dressing will wood. “I wanna be the f*cked up girl” From Ride the cyclone type gender. He/they type magic happening. He is gender.
•Hes also got LITTLE FRECKLES and a buck teeth? (Tooth?) like me because he’s my bgg
Source: I said so.
Cakehole piss
•Unlike his counter part, he’s very social and actually really funny around other freaks. He just needs to warm up or not being a murdering mood (he’s also kind of a loud person and has a higher pitched voice)
•He’s 89% percent high most of the time and smells like the strongest weed ever. Other percent is him being clueless.
•He’s on the spectrum. I say that as In like “he’s so me fr” kind of spectrum. He info dumps to demo samedi ALL The time but he doesn’t care. He likes blue things and things that sparkle. Or legos. Legos make him stim like me fr
Source on the spectrum: Me and all the other autistic freak fortress fans. He’s one of us now.
•He sees the undead stoner scouts as his older brothers and Demo Samedi as his father figure. (Idk because he’s a creation to him) and sometimes calls him “Master Samedi” instead of Demo Samedi in a sense of being being his creator.
•(this is actually canon) He doesn’t like water AT ALL. Refuses to go unless he needs to shower. Otherwise it would take him a whole team just to throw him in.
•He has dyed short curly hair and like multiple piercings like his ear and mouth. He also tends to wear baggy clothing and pajamas actually despite his normal uniform.
•Him and Piss are both Latinos/natives 🫶 (mixed parents fight me all you want). Piss‘s parents don’t call him by his “name” and call him instead “pequeña mariposa” (little butterfly in Spanish sorry If it’s not accurate, I can only speak little Lakota and more English ) they very much welcomed Cakehole into the family and treat him like a son
That’s all I have and also I’m making a short story on these 2 about most of these headcanons. If you don’t like these just remember that these are headcanons so don’t be rude about it. Ok stay groovy you guys 🫶💗

I know what you’re thinking. Two Friday Night Shots posts in a row? That must mean Dave got the jukebox fixed! It’s amazing what paying your work people can actually do. Maybe that’s why I can’t keep a bartender? Anyway, welcome back! Pull up a chair and I’ll get you a drink. Whatever you like. Ok, not that…but anything else? Oh, and don’t mind my cat. Race for the Galaxy
We have comfort TV around here. Movies, too. In times of trouble, putting on Community, or Lost in Translation feels warm and cozy. I'd never considered the possibility of a tabletop game filling such a role. Race for the Galaxy filling occupying this space for us is about a million miles from where we got started with the game.
Initially I got the game because of the high rank on BGG (I recall it being ranked as high as #3 at one point?) and the low cost. The sci-fi theme does nothing at all for me. Race is a too-large box* with some player mats and a lot of cards. The game was incredibly tough to get my head around. I remember playing against the excellent Keldon AI at first, just trying to grok the game.
I understood the rules, but now how to play well at all. I was losing consistently. There was something here to be grasped, but I had to decide whether to put the work in to find it. After all, if it's a game based on luck then I should win as often as I lose, right? I hung with it well enough to get a handle on it, then taught it to my wife who proceeded to win her fair share of our games (maybe just a touch more than that).
In Race for the Galaxy, the game is played in rounds made up of 5 distinct phases:
Explore: players draw cards from a central deck, keeping some and discarding the rest
Develop: players may play Development cards onto their personal tableau
Settle: players may play Planet cards onto their personal tableau
Consume: players trade goods from their tableau for points or additional card draws
Produce: players produce goods on their tableau from cards capable of doing so
None of this sounds too complex so far. The devil is in the many details here. First, players will only execute a phase if someone at the table chose that phase at the beginning of the round (these are revealed simultaneously). For example, if I choose the Settle phase, Molly chooses Produce, and Gary Sinise chooses Develop then no one gets to Explore or Consume this round. We all will Develop, then Settle, then Produce - with the players who chose those phases getting a special bonus. If I choose Settle then we all get a Settle phase where we may play a planet card onto our respective tableaus, but I also get to draw an additional card for doing so (Molly and Gary Sinise do not get this bonus).
So now players will have incentives to choose certain phases based on the cards on their tableau or in their hand. Your planets and developments in your tableau will give you various bonuses during specific phases. If I have Interstellar Bank (draw a card whenever the Develop phase is chosen) and Public Works (draw a card whenever you play a development into your tableau) then I have incentive to choose the Develop phase. Gary Sinise knows this and will not choose Develop because 1) he knows I'm likely to choose it so he wants to choose something else that benefits him and 2) if he chooses Develop, he's giving me those free cards.
Gary Sinise is no fool. But I KNOW this, so maybe I'm not going to choose Develop either. If Gary wants to play that Drop Ships development, he's gonna have to choose Develop himself. I'm no patsy.
If this sounds like it's getting complicated, it is and it isn't. The rules as written aren't especially complicated once you've played a few rounds. The flow of the game makes sense. The sheer tonnage of choices and options to weigh against one another is overwhelming, especially early on. Like so many other things in life, you're rewarded for pushing through to find the quality in a piece of art that isn't immediately accessible.
There's one mechanism I haven't mentioned yet, and it's brilliant: you pay for the cards you're playing from your hand by discarding other cards in your hand. This adds a level of angst to most every choice in the game. "I really want to play this Alien Planet, but its cost is 5 so that means I will have to discard FIVE other cards from my hand! I want to play 3 other ones for sure, so do I just spend my turns trying to draw more cards?" That way lies madness, because you end up with a handful of cards you want to play but have to make sacrifices for. While also factoring in your tableau bonuses and trying to read your opponents' needs and predict which phase they're going to choose. I really want to play that Alien Planet, but I've been waiting for Molly Shannon to choose Settle for the past 3 rounds and SHE ISN'T DOING IT I know she's waiting for me to choose Settle first well I'm NOT going to do it! Let Gary Sinise do it.
The game also has a couple of ways to trigger the end of the game: when the game's pool of VP chits is emptied (mostly from Producing goods then Consuming those goods) or when a player plays their 12th card to their tableau. This means that tempo is a factor, and your big sprawling VP engine of expensive cards isn't going to hit its stride if your opponent is racing to play cheap cards to reach 12 cards in their tableau. If I see you building something grand on your side of the table, I'm going to hit the gas and try to end the game before you finish.
Race is brilliant. I especially love the "discard cards to pay for other cards" mechanism. It's easy to fall into the trap of "I need to find this one card to make my tableau work" and then curse your bad luck when you don't draw it. Like many of my favorite games, you need to learn to roll with what the game gives you rather than trying to hammer it into the shape you want.
The vast majority of my plays of Race have been 2-player games with my wife. It's a game I directly associate with her. We've turned to it to occupy our minds in times of crisis - big or small - several times now. When we went through a miscarriage and needed to mentally be anywhere else, we played Race. And when there was a terrible storm late one night when my wife was 9 months pregnant and due to give birth any day now, we played Race into the small hours of the night.
Race for the Galaxy is an absolutely brilliant design. It came out 17 years ago as I write this, and it holds up. Like all games, it also brings to mind the circumstances in which I played it. Games aren't just expensive boxes of cardboard and intimidating rules, they're shared experiences that create memories with loved ones. Race carries that truth more than any game on my shelves.
*Our box currently has the base game plus 4 expansions and it barely fits.

The character you play as in Dead End has a demonic third arm with a childish personality of its own, and these "Helping Hand" cards belong to it! I mean, come on. Circadians Chaos Order is a epic area control game that builds up tension as the game goes by. Circadians Chaos Order is a 2-5 player game where players take on the role of one of six different asymmetric factions. Players are trying to gain control of the relics on the board or bring up the factions fame to its max. If either of these are accomplished that player wins the game. Fame is achieved differently for each faction and each faction fame track is a different length. In addition controlling all the relics becomes easier as the game goes by. This is because there are six relic markers in the game. Which is one for each round. However at the end of each round one of the relics gets removed. Meaning if the game makes it to the sixth round there will only be one relic left on the board. This is amazing as the game become more and more tense and exciting as it becomes easier to control the remaining relics. Overall I highly recommend this game if you like the space fantasy theme and area control. Very solid fun game. Any news from mom?
She's been particularly elusive. I'm texting with her now & it's like pulling teeth tbh.
Also she apparently didn't realize that the book is not...explicit material? So basically she was expecting an E-rated fanfic this whole time.
And then she thought *I* was the one who was hopelessly in love...
And that's all I know rn
#mom reads carry on#asks#i literally had tears in my eyes from laughing because of that reading dinosaur#snowbaz#idk what bgg means#probably a typo
