➜ Synopsis: It was beyond Rex why he was letting this poisonous feeling that had dripped over his body and leaked into his soul affect him so deeply. You weren't even dating for Maker's sake, but the lie that you two had webbed so intricately to lure others into its falsity had ensnared him within its grasp and there was no escaping, no lie or justification adequate enough to hide the extent of his feelings that had sprung him into action at the sight of you with one of his brothers.

Sᴛᴀʀᴡᴀʀs Mᴀsᴛᴇʀʟɪsᴛ

“Are you two together?”  

You couldn’t count on both hands how many times that question had been directed towards you and Rex. Generals, soldiers, and even strangers, had asked you both that question numerous times. The answer was always, ‘no we’re not’ and an uncomfortable laugh from either of you. No one ever believed you though and on that night something in you finally snapped and instead of your usual denial leaving your lips your response was,  

“Yes, we are,” and shooting the captain such a sickeningly sweet smile that honey might as well have been coating your lips and dripping from your teeth. The waitress had clapped her hands against her notepad and complimented how cute of a ‘couple’ you two were while Rex choked on his water from across the table. He had shot you a confused look that you ignored until she had left, before presenting your little last-minute idea to him.  

“Everyone always thinks were together,” you had explained, “why not give them what they want. I mean what feels like half the base asks us if we’re together yet almost every week, it would be nice to finally get a break.” Rex hesitantly agreed, but only after you had mentioned that since he claimed he had no way to pay you back for treating him to dinner so often – even after the numerous times you had told him it was alright – that this could be the way he paid you back instead. 

Just like that, with one honey sweet smile, the two of you decided that you would be a couple in public and friends in private. 

Like anything new though, the kisses, pet names, and acts of fake romantic affection had been uncomfortable at first. You both had pushed through it and now they felt almost natural. The two of you fell into a new pattern of life, one that didn’t consist of people pestering you about your relationship with Rex at every turn you took on the base and nothing had really changed between the two of you behind closed doors. 

 That was if you didn’t count the small touches of affection that had originally started for a more convincing act, but had slowly become a normal part of your friendship now, or the way Rex found himself thinking about you a lot more then he had used to, or the way you’d catch yourself looking at him a little – a lot – bit longer than necessary. None of that mattered though, because the neither of you were planning on acknowledging those things. No, definitely not, you both quite liked the way life was going for the both of you and it would do neither of you any good to acknowledge your feelings.  

After all your relationship was fake, something to get everyone off your backs about being a couple all the time, it was just fun and jokes, nothing more.  

That’s what Rex repeated in his head, trying to reason with himself as he watched one of his brothers order you a drink from across 79’s. His jaw was clenched tightly and his knuckles were turning white under his gloved hand at how tightly he was grabbing his own empty cup. 

The two of you had decided to go to 79’s for your ‘anniversary’, and he was quickly realizing that it hadn't been the best idea, as he watched the countless number of male eyes on you whilst his judgment was being thoroughly affected by alcohol, the scene was bringing up all the feeling he had buried so deep within himself, with a tinge of possessiveness coming with them.  

You had met Rex there when you had used to work at the cantina, so you both figured that it was only fitting to go for your fake one-year anniversary. It wasn’t the most ideal idea of an anniversary date, but the two of you weren’t exactly the idea of an ideal couple either.  

Rex repeated it to himself again, unable to tear his eyes away as the other man reached out to touch your arm.   

Your relationship was fake, you weren't actually dating, he should turn back around and get back to the conversation he was having with his men instead of unreasonably fuming over who you were letting close to you. You could do whatever you wanted, with whoever you wanted.  

Bullshit, all those things meant nothing to him as he watched the trooper take a step towards you, getting too close to for his liking, and leaning down. You were his. No one got to touch you like that but him. No one got to look at you like that or even think about you like that but him. No one.  

All sense of ration went out the window as the feeling of possessiveness took hold of him. He growled out a ‘excuse me’ to his men and slamming the empty liqueur cup on the nearest table that was thankfully empty, and stalking towards you.  

Rex didn’t waste a second once he got to you, wordlessly wrapping one arm around your waist, using his other hand to turn your face towards him. You opened your mouth to greet him, grateful for his timing, but you didn’t have the chance as his lips locked on yours, and he kissed you heatedly. You let out a surprised yelp, but eagerly kissed him back after a moment.  

You had shared many kisses with Rex over the last year, but none like this one. This kiss held a hunger and passion that you had never experienced from Rex. This kiss made your heart flutter as your eyes slid shut and your stomach do flips excitedly. This kiss felt genuine, in a way none of the other kisses had ever felt, that scared you a bit. Most of all though, this kiss felt like a claim and it made you melt, kissing him back and leaning into him. 

Finally, Rex pulled away, leaving you breathless as you looked up at him with half lidded eyes, the trooper long gone by now. You took your time looking up from his lips to meet his gaze. When your eyes finally locked onto his, he was already looking at you with the same hunger you he had kissed you with. Hunger for you, and the realization made your body feel hot under him, desire blooming in the pit of your stomach as you blushed.  

“We should go somewhere more private, don’t you think,” Rex whispered, and it sounded more like a statement then a question. Your eyes widened and you just nodded, letting him guide you out of the cantina and back to your place, dropping short kisses to your lips, and allowing you time to collect yourself, you were still trying to completely process what had just happened inside the clone bar.  

Rex kept you close to him the whole way there, his arm around your waist tucking you into him to shield you from the prying eyes of other men. Only he got see you. And the feeling of possessiveness hadn't left him as he locked the door to your apartment behind the both of you and pressed you against it so he could kiss you properly. He was going to rid every trace of himself that that man had left on your body. 

 And as your lips pressed against his, that same honey that had seemed to coat your lips a year now coated his and bound the two of you together with a sweet kiss.

2. An indie film

The Velocipastor (2018). You know why. Coincidentally a coworker of mine saw it recently and thought it equally funny, so I think it's a guaranteed hit for anyone unfamiliar with it.

3. A Foreign language film

(I'm gonna guess that means non-english in this context) Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020) gripped me so hard that I needed a moment. Language plays an important part in this, both in translation work as the semantics of certain statements, and the truth that one might hide in how they phrase things. Phenomenal film on a terrible event, certainly deserving of more recognition.

7. A film in your native language

tbh... dutch movies aren't that great overall. Minoes (2001) stands out because it's funny that a cat turns into a human through radioactive waste, but a lot of that is owed to Annie M.G.'s source material. It is Carice van Houten's breakout role though, so there's that.

De Beentjes van Sint-Hildegard (2020) deserves a shout-out for being done in a dialect very close to where I'm from. It's also a bit silly, but those kinds of movies tend to work better here than the Serious ones.

20. A film where the vibes are immaculate

wildcard choice is Medusa Deluxe (2022) which was so much fun and has such a unique setting that I was in for the ride. The writing!!! Verónica (2017) does it for the visuals, and overall Lazzaro Felice (2018) for it's first half has such a VIBEEE (the gif in my mobile header is a scene from that one)

not a movie but a mini-series: Ripley (2024) has rooted itself in my brain grrrrr

FYI this post might contain some spoilers to the show but if u want a nonspoilerly version, just asked! it's pretty old so if yall haven't seen it i 10/10 recommend!!!

im painfully trying a rewatch of the show, i say painfully because my attention span watching a show vs a movie is KAPOOT! i can't stream 30 hours of a show but i can sit thru a 3 hr movie (if i haven't seen it before. Ill still have to get up and stretch sometime in the middle of it but ill be attentive nonetheless). LIKE... sitting thru a long movie holds more accountability to my mind i think. If i can't binge thru multiple episodes and end on a comfy, even number like episode 10, i can't bring myself to sit thru one without checking my phone 😭 BUT IT IS A GOOD SHOW! i just suck at watching shows in general, especially past the 1st season.. idek why.. it's like i get thru the 1st season in a happy binge breeze then BOOM! no more motivation... BUT WHAT I MEANT WITH THIS IS!!!!

This 1st post will mainly just kinda lightly touch on general knowledge from season 1 then expand in detail the more seasons i rewatch (with more ships too probably). This is mainly my fav ships i noticed now or back then

TO BE NOTED THO!! the wire isn't a really shippy show tbh, it's mainly about dynamics thru relationships contributing to story/effect on the story rather than romantic relationships. Every plot point has to have an eventual purpose for the story, every interaction, etc. It has like one will they won't they mainly for angst, and it's for Detective McNulty who has a general 'will he won't he' beat the Irish drinking gene or whatever lmao. If u wanna ship, u gotta really take the few nuggets the show might give u and REALLY turn them to gold. Cus they are gold in general, but it's up to you to make them really profit! IN CONCLUSION.. u gotta be. A little delusional. Hence our first 'ship' introduction..

... i told you we had to be a little unwell to really indulge. Sorry.

this is a totally biased list so please excuse me. Stinkum n Bird are two of Avon's muscle in the game and they both get outta it pretty quick. Involuntarily, of course, because they're the typa freaks that love it. With these two, you need context clues n connections. Almost EVERY scene Stinkum is in, he's GOT TO bring up his boy Bird. Hell, it might just be every. This is mainly due to the writers knowing the actor of bird is a big shot cameo, so it'd be too expensive to have Bird in a lot of scenes, especially in a TV show budget. And they also knew Stinkum wasn't made to last long so why not just use him as a substitute introduction to Bird's character so we don't have to pay that much for personal appearance in prologue? Bird's supposed to be the 'unhinged' one in the crew, the Crazy Guy. Crude, rude, cruel, & ruthless. Don't have the budget to show it, cheaper to tell it instead. Stinkum's just the hype man to Bird, essentially. Also he has another thing going on that leads to his early demise, but besides that, that's pretty much it. Goes to show how the show wants every dime spent for a strategical reason. Good TV shows need Causation, not 'and then's, but 'therefore' 'so' ETC.

... doesn't mean we can't have fun with it ourselves though. See, The Wire brings you quality entertainment, & it's up to us what we make of that quality to be entertained. Up to our love of the show to keep coming back to it and exploring the prime time possibilities it presented/hinted/hid. Which is a lot since practically every part of it is practical. The beauty of Stinkum n Bird to me is Stinkum being some wide-eyed doe eyed obsessed little freak who woobifies n glorifies n babygirlifies Brutal As Fuck bird because? He's insane. I guess? They both are! This is evidenced in the show, on purpose for plot! But this purpose can be made even better if we make something accidental out of it. Take the gold and spread its profits through smaller amounts, cut the product for bigger prices! LISTEN LIKE.. they made stinkum's character constantly bringing up Bird's name for plot... but him always yammering on about Bird can mean other things...... dare i say... gay things 😈. WHY does he always talk about Bird? For cheap character intro to get us ready when Bird makes his short appearance eventually yea but WHAT ELSE? they're giving us an ELSE without rlly GIVING us an else! Stinkum, who's a bit of a dopey lil goon guy, might have been unknown to a certain shooting danger one night when BLAM! He turns around, not filled with lead, but with awe for the guy he just saw skin a man alive... save HIS skin by dealing with his unforeseen assailant. Stinkum sees a softer side to the craziest, cruelest guy in their group, and has his respect eternally earned. Does Bird ever return it?? We don't know.... Bird never mentions Stink. Which creates more fun for us cus we get bounce off that with whatever the hell we want. It always goes back to the source! IF YOU WANT.. i recommend looking up 'the wire stinkum' / 'the wire bird' and ull find their scenes that show more of their character. I can elaborate on a single ship in more detail if u want, just ask ! trust me, id be MORE than happy to lmao!

Apparently, thanks to Stinkum, we know Bird n Omar jailed with each other. And STINKUM heard from BIRD that Omar was gay?? Which is like.. ok. Thanks stinkum/bird??? That's a bit.. what do u mean by that... have you, Bird, man whose little scenes he's shown is spewing same sex sexuality slander 99% of the time, Experienced that info Firsthand? Are you. Perhaps. Were you... One of Omar's whole stable of boys he had while locked up at Jess Up 🤨? ...the public needs to know 😈. u rlly do have to see the show for all of these to rlly land with u tbh, the bigger ones especially bcs when the show has two characters they keep close for long... u know they're gonna be in pain. And u are too. I love avon and stringer man they make me so 😭😭!! One bleeds red the other bleeds green... ones all for family, the other for profession but DAMN IT! He thought he was family too, isn't it? Aren't i... Avon ? If the other ship types were doofy tongue out loyal to the bone tail wagging dumbly following dog Stinkum x asshole cat with claws who Maybeeee has a Slight soft spot for the dog where only HE can scratch it sometimes Bird, or elegant silk n clever streetcat with a semi bitten ear who steals fish with class Omar x rowdy rabid orange tabby cat who jumps at windows trying to eat other cats Bird..... this one is . It's just so good, it needs a justification thru watch. Avon and stringer together.. u can just feel the connection. this one is mainly dynamic, there are some works for marlo/chris, but it's mainly dynamic exploration or relationship hinting if u squint but kept kinda dim under the surface. What's interesting abt these two is that.. They're just so interesting. It's like.. how Did they meet? WHY is chris so loyal to marlo? 2. Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc? 

I like participating in fandom events - prompt weeks, bingos, etc. I'll probably do a belated Flufftober for last years prompts soon, since I only filled... two of them? And hopefully next Flufftober I won't immediately feel my energy for writing snuff out on me.

Sadly it seems that some of the events I used to participate in have gone away. Hartmonfest being the most recent and the one I'm most sad about. I considered volunteering to take over running that one, but I didn't feel like I had the energy to really focus on it the way an event needs. Maybe if I'm feeling less worn out later this year I might reach out to see if I could revive it on a trial basis. I kinda feel a bit like I'd need to brush up on my photo manip skills though (gotta make a fun header for an event, right?) and... I haven't really done much in that area since high school with, like, the 2006 version of Photoshop in my graphic design class. So this might wind up being something I push off until next year.

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Usually it's not so much about being brave enough but having enough inspiration. That said, I've had a longer look at the body swap trope with Cisco and Hartley in mind for a while and who knows, maybe this'll be the year I finally start making progress on that idea. It'll be a more serious take than the fic I've already done with it - Cisco struggling to deal with Hartley's hearing while Hartley learns Cisco visions hurt a lot more than Cisco's been letting on - and it'll be something of a mutual annoyances to friends to lovers type deal.

9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January?

The Flufftober prompts. And maybe the Rose/Jack/Doctor week prompts I didn't finish last year. Try and get back into my writing headspace before I start tackling some of my older series again.

15. Do you foresee any personal or professional obstacles this year, that would keep you from creating fanworks? 

So the wasp problem isn't 100% over yet, but it's hopefully going to continue to be in decline. That was a big stressor for me last year - I think more than I realized at the time. If they do come back in bigger numbers, that'll probably stress me out again and slow my creative side down again.

The home reno I had going on last year was another source of stress and while I will be doing part two of that this year, it'll be much smaller in scale - mainly painting and replacing some heavily painted-over wood paneling with drywall, as the paneling as seen better days. No flooring replacements or turning reach-in closets into walk-in closets. So it shouldn't take nearly so long or be nearly so stressful.

I'm especially looking forward to painting the fireplace. It's brick, but kind of a dirty looking off white with a few splotches here and there where it got stained a kinda... puke green tbh. A dark gray paint with a new wood mantle will make it really nice, I think. It'll go well with the light gray I've used everywhere and I'm thinking a navy color for an accent wall. Or possibly two walls. Still in the early stages of decision making.

I'm aiming for spring for the reno, which should give me plenty of time yet to prepare. But I'd expect that to interfere with my writing time since I'll have to pack those rooms up beforehand and unpack them later. Also going to get some of the furniture (definitely the couch and a rug I've had ten-ish years) professionally cleaned. They've both been through a lot and could use a deep cleaning.

MAIGNAN 9 No clean sheet and still gets a 9 from me. Quite possibly the only keeper in Italy who keeps that low header out and the garbage attempt by garbage Hakan from outside the box. Magic Mike is, well, magical

CALABRIA 6.3 The Captain did all he could and was generally very good, but with the high press vs a high scoring team and Calabria is the weak link back there just because he can't keep up with the rest of his fellow defenders. Once an attacker on his side gets past/behind him it completely compromises the integrity of the back 4. I can see Dest taking his spot by the end of the season TBH

KALULU 7 Some of the other scores I've seen given to him are a little bit lower but I think he was solid. Was not at fault for either of the goals and was generally in the right position at the right time

TOMORI 7 Gets the same as Kalulu from me because while he was on Dzeko for Inter's second goal, and it could be argued that he needed to prevent that ball from reaching Dzeko, Dzeko needed to hit it perfect and he did. Otherwise, was very solid

THEO 10 A 10?! What?! What did you miss? Well, first off I'm 100% certain I would COMPLETELY hate Theo with every fiber in my soul if he played for someone else (but he doesn't) AND he totally got into the heads of the Inter players. And I mean, come on, very few other players in Italy are as good at that as him. But while he probably would've gotten a 7 from me he immediately got bumped up to a 10 for smacking Hakan on the head after Hakan snubbed him in the handshake line before kickoff. I guess Hakan is still a little bummed about Theo calling him b*tch Hakan during the Scudetto parade. Maybe Hakan is the one who should show some maturity? (if you know, you know)...

BENNACER 7.5 Solid again and is off to a fantastic start to the season. How great? Pioli hasn't not-started him this season through 5 games. We're getting pretty damn good Bennacer right from the get-go this season

TONALI 8 Best game all season and one of his best for Milan in his still-very short time as a Milanista. Was all over the place and was picking out and executing exquisite passes the first 60min of the match. This is a skill I want to see Pioli start to exploit even more. Mamma mia!

MESSIAS 6.8 Couldn't quite give him a 7 but played his best game of the 2022-23 season so far. Wasn't much of an attacking threat but absolutely worked his tail off and was a big reason the high press caused as many problems as it did for Inter. You could say it was a little bit of a Saelemaekerian-type-of-effort

CDK 6.5 Solid if unspectacular game from the big new toy. Put in the work and can't complain with the effort. Seems to be buying into Pioli's tactics and scheme well. Lots of pressure

LEÃO 10 MOTM I mean, what can I say. He might get 25 goals this season and have 15 assists, at which point Chelsea better offer €250M for him. There is simply no other attacking player in Italy who can dominate to the level he can and who still isn't even close to his ceiling

GIROUD 9 Kinda nice to not have to think about a #9 curse anymore. Man, do you remember how bad things were? KJÆR 6.5 Came in late but came in when Pioli realized Calabria was turning into smoked sausage out at RB and needed to get him out of there. He came in for Calabria, pushed Kalulu to RB, and played deep trying to offer a little more protection for Maignan since Inter was determined to get the equalizer. I can see this being Pioli's go-to to protect leads, probably until Dest can be trusted

POBEGA 6.5 Wasn't going to rate him but thought, you know what, he's doing what he's being asked to and doing it reasonably well. I think he gets better as the season moves forward and begins getting even more minutes

PIOLI 7 First 60 minutes gets a 10/last 30 minutes gets a 5, so a 7 overall. He completely hit it out of the park in terms of game plan those first 60 minutes. I didn't even care about Inter's first goal as it seemed pretty fluky. He had everyone's pick, or at least the team with the best odds according the, da bookies, on the ropes and they looked to be completely overmatched. Then...sigh...then he took Milan's foot off Inter's throat. I think Milan would've won 6-1 if he didn't ease off the gas. I'm writing a Pioli piece and will dive into this more at a later date. The most important thing is Pioli is owning Inter and we can all enjoy and celebrate that. Oh, and #IPIT!

- Skriniar and de Vrij are not even remotely close to top 5 CBs in Serie A. - Ok, so 5 games in and CDK and Brahim have played about the same amount of minutes (209 and 213, respectively), and CDK has 1A and Brahim has 1G/1A. Performance ratings for them each, from Whoscored and FotMob: CDK (6.71/6.92) Brahim (6.64/6.89). So on the plus side: the CAM has 1G/2A through 5 games! The...bad?...I don't know that it's bad...no, it's not, it's not bad...but the bad? Kind of interchangeable parts, no? Sure, they do and bring different skills and components to the games but overall, basically a push

At some point you guys are going to come over to my side on this. You want more production from the CAM then Milan is going to have to fix the RW so the defense can be stretched out just a hair to give the #10 position to operate and shine (the #9 position needs to be a Giroud-type for it to best succeed as well). - Milan is starting this season much like last season (and the season before to some extent) and playing really well vs other top 7 teams, especially other potential top 4 teams. No losses vs Atalanta in Bergamo and Inter at home, earning 4 out of 6 points. If they earn points at that rate vs those top teams then their odds of repeating as Scudetto champs increases that much more. Love it

- Oh, Leão is going to be Serie A MVP again

Venti and Barbara: Relationship HCs

Barbara refuses and still continues to refuse that Venti is actually Barbatos. The archon that she has prayed and dedicated her cause to CANNOT be a alcohol obsessed bard that goes around pulling pranks on everyone. Her mental state would not be able to handle it. No matter how many times Venti tells her otherwise she suddenly can’t hear him. The acoustic’s in here are terrible or the wind is too loud where Venti himself knows that, no there aren’t any winds. He’s the anemo archon. He can do that. Barbara ple-

Despite how they seem on the surface, Barbara and Venti really like each other’s voices and fully admit to it. They have different styles and Barbara has even tried to hint at Venti to teach her his melodies that she still has troubles with. Barbara was kind of nervous to be teased at when she first approached Venti, since that’s just his nature. But to her surprise he was incredibly sincere and brought her to the Windrise tree to practice. He would strum his lyre while giving pointers to Barbara and it would a nice bonding experience for them that later turned into small lunch dates. 

Meanwhile, Venti think’s it’s so cute and fascinating that Mondstadt has evolved to where music has went from bards singing in taverns to actual concerts. Venti isn’t interested in the idol lifestyle but he enjoys supporting Barbara and carrying her voice throughout the winds. If anyone asks the acoustics are just that good in Mondstadt. You can thank the anemo archon for that and you should definitely buy a green bard a glass of wine for good acoustic luck. 

When Venti makes his special “A Buoyant Breeze” for Barbara he always makes sure to include the heart which makes Barbara flush pink and ignores it. Which leads Venti to pout and whine like an overgrown spoiled cat, even though he’s allergic to them, until Barbara gives up on her man-child of a partner and says that it’s the best thing she’s ever eaten as if Barbatos himself blessed it. She has to get on her hands and knees begging and pleading that “Venti please stop, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it and I will never disgrace the time and effort you put into making this hear-why are you laughing you tone-deaf bard?!” 

Venti is a bit of a troublemaker and thought that since Barbara was his partner, that somehow gave him free reign to do whatever he wanted in the Church. It’s always amusing to others, like Jean, when she sees her sister scolding an archon that no, he cannot burst into service because he was bored. Really everyone knows that Venti just misses her and uses any excuse to see her. They were basically praying to him so it was fine right? 

Barbara and Venti made an unlikely couple and appeared more like siblings with Venti’s constant teasing and Barbara having none of it. But when it’s come to pray in the Church, Barbara puts her heart and soul into everything which both makes Venti happy and sad. He’s happy that Barbara was dedicated to the Archon of Freedom but sad that he wasn’t exactly within her expectations. 

But Barbara has been healing people and making sure everyone was okay, that no matter how much Venti grins or smiles she knows. So she goes to the statue of seven in windrise, right under the giant tree, and prays out loud to Barbatos that she has the best partner in the world who was hectic, made her life a complete mess, constantly played pranks on her, and might be the cause of too many headaches. But that he was also talented and showed her that she had the freedom to pursue anything she set her heart out to do. That she loved him and all his teasing ways. 

Whenever Barbara has her 10 second bouts of sadness, a feather always lands next to her and tickles her face until she starts laughing. Then Venti will suddenly and magically appear and drag her off to a lively tavern where they can both sing a duet. By the time the night is over, she had forgotten what made her upset in the first place.

I should probably mention that character x character fics/hcs are going to be a bit shorter than my usual posts. Sorry did I say a bit shorter? Because I’m down to dedicate another fic to this. I love them both. 

But feel free to send any other character x character if you have them. Honestly these are just crack fics. 

I really wanna see someone make a Barbara and Venti clip of them singing to “Anything you can do, I can do better” I would donate my kidney for that. Has that been made? I know someone has but I don’t think it was Barbara and Venti. 

I got one more pairing to write and then it’s time to commit sleep. For a whole hour. I need to learn pacing because I’m gonna end up collapsing into myself before I finish everything.

hey bubs 🤗 i don’t mind answering at all !! but it’ll have to be under the cut since i wanted to be as thorough as humanly possible** and thus it’s very long >3< apologies 😢

** i understand that you might not have the same devices and platforms as i do, so i’ll write out both what i did and also a web-based / free version !! hope this isn’t confusing </3

𝟎𝟏 — 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐏

i’m doing this tutorial (?) for specifically the headers on my collectives m.list so i wanted them to be all the same size. i used my in-app editor for my phone to crop them as so. the first set of images are of me doing so, the second is of a free website service that does about the same thing.

on the last pic, you’ll get to choose from different width to height ratios (width : height) and also whether it should be vertical or horizontal. if you’re doing more than one header of the same format then this comes in handy bc they’ll all come out the same size !! one drawback is that you don’t get much say in the exact size as you can only use the ratios they provide.

for the non-apple version, i just searched up “crop image” and clicked on the first thing that came up which happened to be iloveimg.com. it allowed me to directly change the size and position of the crop edge which was more freedom (?) than my prior method.

𝟎𝟐 — 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐙𝐄 / 𝐉𝐏𝐆 -> 𝐏𝐍𝐆

now this step is only necessary since i wanted the transparent background (png format) for the words to float on. if you just want the words on the picture then to step three you go !! the first section of pictures is for procreate on the ipad which is what i personally use to edit, animate, draw etc. the second section uses autodesk sketchbook which is a free app and also what i used to use !! (they’re similar in function but i do think procreate is a good investment.)

so when you pull up a new canvas, keep in mind that it'll be the size of the whole image, like the transparent frame of it. my go-to is what i labeled "standard horz." which is 2400 x 1350 px.

in the transform tab at the top, you can change the dimensions of the picture by clicking any one of the blue border dots. and if you go into the snapping tab at the bottom, turning on snapping or magnetics allows you to position the image in the center (indicated by a yellow line when used). then, if you go to the layer managers near the top right, you can hide the background by unclicking the check box which turns the canvas into a png !! don’t save it just yet, bc you can do the last step on procreate as well (and that’ll keep the resolution pretty clear instead of importing from app to app).

autodesk is pretty straightforward as well. when you load up a new sketch, they only have certain presets for the device size you’re using it on. in this case, i just did it on my phone so the largest (and thus clearest) size i could get was 1109 x 2400 px. after you import the picture and position it where you want (there’s no centering tools that i’m aware of ??), hide the background + everything else except the image and save it into your photo library.

𝟎𝟑 — 𝐀𝐃𝐃 𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐓

i get all my fonts from dafont.com which is a basically just a giant font archive. whether you’re adding text on procreate or the other app i’m mentioning below, obtaining the font is the same.

i took screenshots for this too but i’m closing in on my image limit 😭😭 so i’ll be as coherent as i can, word-wise. you can navigate dafont via the different categories at the top and when you want to use one, just press download (and then confirm if your device asks).

after you have the font downloaded to your device, go to the tool tab at the top of procreate and under “add,” there should be an “insert image.” the left pic should pop up and you just have to press the Aa edit text option at the left and then “import font.” after you edit it to your liking, save it by going back to the tool tab and under “share,” you’ll find where you can press PNG to save it with the transparent background !!

for the free version, the app i’m using is phonto which is every starting editor’s best friend tbh. to get your desired font from your files into the app, there’s a little 🔍 at the top after you download it on apple devices. if you don’t have apple, i think you just have to go to your files like in the second pic and share it into phonto. there’s usually different variations that come with one “pack” like italics and bolds so just install the ones you want when in phonto.

phonto has the lil camera at the bottom and after you press it, select “photo albums” to import the png from before. click anywhere and it’ll give the “Add text” option. you’ll find the ones you’ve downloaded and shared into phonto under “fonts” and then “my fonts” at the bottom. the text editor is pretty versatile so you can play around with the shadowing, alpha, curvature and whatnot. the share button’s on the bottom right when you’re done. just make sure to click “Save as PNG” or else you won’t get that transparency !!
