Just remember content creator doesn’t always mean social media you could possibly be an artist and use social media to help promote your brand. The song Belle from Beauty and the Beast is playing in my head. It’s the song where Belle is singing about longing for adventure and the great outdoors something more than this everyday life that has everyone satisfied and content with not wanting more.  You want to be your own boss and not have to deal with the constant drama of having other people around you telling you what you can and cannot do. This may be specific for only just a few of you but maybe you have a manager who doesn’t like to let you take time off from work or even play favorites with who they allow and don’t allow to do things. For those who want to be influencers, I’m mostly seeing travel, and artists (writers, bloggers, painters, sculptors, etc) again you don’t have to be but I’m feeling this pile wants freedom or at least a job where they can wake up how celebrities do. If you want to do nothing all day, that’s what you do. If you want to go to Bali at the drop of the hat that’s what you do and so forth. You don’t want to be tied down to a desk job your whole life and I’m here to tell you you aren’t. howdy, i saw your reblog asking for rap suggestions

you should totally listen to “to pimp a butterfly” it’s probably the single greatest album of the 2010s and it has some of the strongest themes and symbolism that i’ve ever seen in an album. it is just absolutely gorgeous and it’s worth listening to in its entirety and paying attention to everything. it also has like an incredibly shocking and beautiful ending for the album.

if you want a single song you should listen to “all outta ale” by MF DOOM. he has one of the most unique sounds of any rapper and the most complex lyrics.

also tyler the creator. he is cool and very popular. although he also makes more poppy sounding songs. actually he had like a big change in his sound.

also if you don’t want to listen to a whole kendrick lamar album i really enjoy Wesley’s Theory, Alright, King Kunta, i, and Backseat Freestyle (which is from a different album good kid m.A.A.d city)

Hi!! Thank you so much for the suggestions! I did listen to the whole album (took me three days to do so apparently añslkdfj) and my favorites out of it where Alright, i, and mortal man. I think it might be cause those are the ones with the most consistent rhythms- it might me the autism, but the more flowy, jazzy vibe of the other songs didnt scratch my brain as much. I definitely feel that a lot of the lyrics in Pimp a Butterfly went over my head for lack of personal experience, and maybe a little english being my second language and me mostly dealing in tumblr slang. But those last few songs were incredibly artistically profound, I loved it when he just started breaking into a conversation with the audience and then with someone else. I can also definitely see what you meant with unique sound for MF DOOM. There was an almost bouncy instrument (?) in the back of the track that i very much enjoyed. I do think those lyrics also went over me. Im not that great at poetry interpretation, im more a fun wordplay person.

And I've heard Tyler the creator before, apparently! Entirely through tiktok, but still. I think him being more Pop puts him closer to what i usually listen to (im a big melodies person, I really like singing along to songs and i *cannot rap* for the life of me jsjs) and is definitely very pleasant sounding, but i didnt find myself gravitating towards it particularly much. All in all, nothing scratched my brain in the specific way that gets it put on my playlists, but I'm very glad to have listened to all this! A/N: well…. I’m not so proud of writing these short stories instead of working on the ones for my series but my brain is not working. Also I deeply apologize if the translated lyrics are not correct. I use google translate for it.

 In the dimming room of a small studio room, there sits Taeyang, whose headphone is glued to his ears while his eyes cannot tear itself away from a folder that has only one song in there. 

 He is hesitating, rather more anxious than anything combined as he clicks on google, then looks at the opening tab, displaying his YouTube channel with over 360K subscribers on the site of YouTube studio. 

 He knows it’ll be a bad idea, a terrible idea even. His mind screams at him to not do it, but the need of expressing his honest feelings is eating him up. 

 Normally, when his friends ask him how he has been doing, he’ll simply answer with the usual ‘I’m fine.’ but he knows he’s far from being okay. The breakup with you has been hard, even though it was a mutual agreement that you guys are better off not being partners and parted ways on neutral terms that is. Everyday since then, he feels like he doesn’t want to live anymore because he regrets that decision so much. 

 He should’ve stopped you. 

 Just like how he should’ve stopped himself from uploading the new song onto the YouTube channel where you can obviously see that. Heck, he thinks you’d think he’s weird for still being unable to get over you. 

 But too late for that as the new video ‘THEO - Ringin’ Ur Line (Official Audio)’ being posted and he just sighs in defeat, realizing that he makes such a fool of himself with the way he didn’t think of making the video unlisted or even private before it uploads onto the account. 

 And at the same time, you’re mindlessly scrolling through some apps when you see a notification from the channel called ‘THEO’ uploading a new song pops up on the screen. As much as you pretend not to care, you click onto it, ready to get your heartbroken, knowing that he most likely will never mention or even talk about you in his songs. 

 Who would get over someone who makes music and especially a catchy one anyway? 

 But what surprises you is the fact that he makes the song and sings with his own voice in this one, mainly because he’s a music producer. Although his appearance screams very ‘celebrity-like’ due to how good looking he is, he claims that he just wants to lead a normal life with no pressure that comes between his personal life and professional life. He chooses to work behind the spotlight and produces some of the greatest hits for well-known names in the industry. Never once does he put his own personal works out like this. 

 So what changes? 

 You sit up to hear the lyrics and observe the song more carefully.

And finally, what is love? Baby, you answer me.

 You scoff at the thought of him having someone new he might be possibly singing about. Clearly, he wouldn’t really sing about you, would he?

 He needs you in his life. He needs your love. He doesn’t want to continue to imagine the way you could only say those ‘i love you's' that his brain could only replay of the way you said it so much in the past that it deeply engraved in his mind like a clockwork. 

 He doesn’t want his heart trembling at the way you look so beautiful in the well kept polaroid of you two in his wallet anymore. He is done with torturing and lying to himself. 

 Grabbing his car keys, he impatiently waits for the engine to start working and looks around for the blind spots to make sure that the parking spot is empty before driving away.

Taeyang remembers that his first flower ever given to you was from Shota’s flower shop and now that he wants to reconcile you both, he figures that he should do that too. 

 He pants, upon the hurried travel to his friend’s store. Shota eyes him blankly, but continues to say nothing, waiting for the other person to speak first. 

“I need a flower that says forever love. Not roses, obviously.” 

“Was that for Y/N?” He questions, although he already knows the answer. 

“How do you know that?” 

“You can pretend that you’re fine and be strong for our sake, although you’re not really. You still think of them.” 

 Was the pain so obvious that even Shota, who normally just doesn’t comment and not caring about things most of the time can see? 

 He really realizes that you’re his better half. 

 And as for you, you find yourself relating to the lyrics he sings in this song. You truly dislike how reflective it is to your state of mind because you’ve been pretending you’re strong and you’re not hurting everyday. 

 Both of yours and his heart are aching for one another, wanting to belong as one again.

“Hyung, your flower is ready.” Shota places the flower on the table, in front of where Taeyang keeps zoning out. The producer grabs the flower, amazed that the younger florist chooses pink asters, knowing that it represents eternal love, innocence and devotion for a person you deeply care about. He then stands up, slams the 10$ and 20$ on the table and screams out before exiting the shop. 

“I know you’re gonna charge me 25$ but just accept 30$. Keep the change.” 

 Shota just shakes his head, sighing before going back to work. 

I think about everyday, baby we used to talk.

Now you run away.

But baby I'm still walk.

 Driving as fast as he can, he makes it his mission to place his vehicle in a place he knows it all too well. Nighttime has never looked more unexpected and almost scary to him because he can’t predict what is going to happen next. He can only hope that the music he mistakenly and might be posted under the influence of his idiocy conveys what he truly feels about the seperation. 

 Just only a month and 19 more days until it’ll be marked since a year you both break up. But yet in those days before it approaches, you occupy his thoughts every day and night. 

 Frankly, you’re the first and last thing he thinks of every single day. 

 He’s thanking the universe that he didn’t just crash and die right here with the way he’s speeding to you.

“The song… it’s about you.” He confesses, observing the way your eyebrows quirk in confusion and the gleam in your eyes that plead him to almost repeat whatever he just said. 

“Ever since we broke up, it’s never been easy on me. I want to call you so bad but I know you wouldn’t pick up those calls. Every day that I live, the memories of us haunt me so bad, it’s like you intended to hurt me and to make sure that I’ll never get over you. It’s lame that I can’t move on and I’m still in love with you. And now, here, making a fool of myself, asking you to be mine again.” 

 You stare at him, a bit dumbfounded and losing yourself in the moment that all of this happens in real time and it’s not your imagination anymore. You let each of the phrases that escape his lips sink into your mind and process itself into your brain as you can only admire him, no words being exchanged. 

 Taeyang is scared, preparing for your rejection already as you go absolutely silent. He could die right now, if not for the fact that he hasn’t heard the final word that determines whether he’ll continue to live in misery or start a new chapter with absolute happiness. 

“Y/N, please say something. If you’re gonna reject me, please do it fast!” 

“Idiot, I never stopped loving you.” Your face breaks into the biggest grin he has ever seen and every tension and worry just completely escapes from his body. 

 He takes a step forward to hug you, losing himself in your embrace. He misses your love, your warmth. His home, his livelihood all just connects back to you as he feels like the happiest man in the world. 

“Thank god because I thought I’ll live with regret for my entire life.” He mumbles, feeling so content by the physical contact for the first time in months. You try to gently peel yourself off from him, he pouts at you sadly, pleading to be in your embrace for a little longer but before allowing that to continue happening, you scold him. 

“Get off of me! What kind of house owner would I be if I let my guest stand outside for this long.” 

 He smiles, showing off the adorable eye smile that you love so much. 

“Is that your way of inviting me inside?” 

He teases you back, taking off his shoes as he observes you and every corner of your living space, happy to have you back in his life again. 

“Oh shut up before I kick you out.” You give him a stern stare, with your now boyfriend trailing behind you to chill in the living room. He only grins at you teasingly before responding back. 

“Fine.”

okay i know taylor swift's album has been out for a hot min but im revisiting it again and im still stuck on how unrelatable it is and thats why i think it misses the mark for so many people me included. it sucks because i love her and ive always been able to find myself/my circustamces in her lyrics and i cannot do that now. it kinda started with midnights too i noticed.

yeah, when the record first came out, i had a couple conversations about that with people on here. i find it fascinating as a topic, because its one i would love to see indulged in more as a think-piece. how swift's meteoric rise since folklore (which wasn't heavily autobiographical) somehow led to a meteoric rise in her lyricism becoming less collectively personal and more.... individually personal (if that makes sense?). and i would assume her insane taylor's version roll out schedule where she's been consistently revisiting eras and albums from her past work for the last four years has played into the fraying of that lyricism as well.

i dunno, i was watching an interview with a comedian not too long ago (it might've been john mulaney iiirc) where they were discussing how difficult it becomes as comedian's get older to stay relevant and relatable. and he was stating how comedian's and artists (in general) tend to go back and regurgitate or pull from old jokes/content without even being acutely aware of it because of the scene they sort of get caught up in. and the cannibalizing certain artists do to themselves when they rely on an autobiographical branding is rough because it ends up with the audience being like: "you guys used to sing about my life and now you just sing about your own life" and that kinda feels like where taylor is right now.

her newer songs feed a certain, specific part of her life like a diary which is fine because i know its a catharsis for her to get a lot of this out, but in the same vein it hinders a lot of what made a lot of people gravitate to her in the first place. when you listen to her new projects it is difficult to not immediately think about joe alwyn or matty healy or even travis kelce because of specific references and observations. its harder to separate the art from her personal life, and i believe that's where we see a big disconnect with this album for some.

My question may seem incorrect or inappropriate to you, but I still want to know your opinion. Will you still love and support Jungkook if all his songs are about fucking or something meaningless? What if he remains a performer who will not write his own songs? Or what if his fuckboy image becomes his primary one? Will we ever find out who Jungkook is, or will he always be the Korean version of JB now? I always thought that I would support bts members no matter what, but now looking at Jungkook, I understand that this is not the person whose music I want to listen to. His interviews also give me a strange feeling. Are these really his thoughts or Scooter's? Who is this man? I just don't understand why I should continue to be his fan if his music and personality suddenly changed radically. I saw that you answered one of the anons with something like "whether we like it or not, jungkook chose this direction." So we should support him even if we don't like his new image, thoughts and music? But why? Because he was different before? I don't think he has changed because he has matured, because six months ago he was a completely different person lol. I think we shouldn't judge Jk too harshly too fast. His album isn't out yet. But I'd say this, if his music isn't your taste and doesn't align with your taste in terms of style or lyrics, you don't own him or anyone else your undivided support. We shouldn't force ourselves to listen to things we dislike just because a BTS member did them. It also sends a wrong message to them that the fanbase is enjoying something and we want more of it , when in really we don't even like it.

I believe Jungkook's new found fuckboy image is in part Shooter' doing , but in part JK's. The company probably suggested this route because it sells well , popular is in the USA and also fits Jungkook's appearance (hot guy with muscles, piercings and tattoos). I think Scooter got in his head that this is something that would be great for Jungkook to make him "a global pop star", but still JK isn't a mindless doll. The company may have suggested it, but he agreed. Clearly this image is something he is okay with, seems to enjoy and also maybe wanted to express for a while now (being more "mature").

That being said, just because JK sings and looks like a fuckboy, doesn't mean he IS one and even if he is a fuckboy in real life, I don't think this is all that he is. We've literally seen Jungkook grow up in front of our eyes for years and while every idol's image is in a part a facade and men will always be men, I don't think Jungkook changed completely or was deceitful so far.

Maybe the truth about who he is somewhere in the middle. He could still be a thoughtful, sweet guy in some aspects, and a man-whore. I only seriously wish and hope that he isn't misogynistic because I simply cannot support anyone like that. Him in that TikTok really gave me the ick but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt (for now).

As I said previously, Jungkook is set on this direction for now and he doesn't care if people like it. That doesn't mean we should like it and support it though. Just like he chose this path, we are free to choose where we want to spend our time and money. It seems Jungkook perfectly understands this and expects to lose some fans, yet he still chose this career path. Maybe this is a part of himself that is authentic to him and he wants to show it, no matter what that cost him. Maybe it seems to him the reward (being more famous in the USA) is bigger than the loss.

He said he felt like now is the time to shed off the Maknae image and he is doing it. I only hope that by trying to get out of the box some people out him into, he doesn't limit himself even more. This playboy persona and "playful, lightly shocking" songs could get tiring real fast. I hope he doesn't loose all the loyal support he has now , while chasing the idea of being "the main pop boy".

In conclusion, Jungkook is set on transforming himself and his image right now and that is his right. If you don't like who he has become by the end of this metamorphosis, you have right to simply ignore his music until the group becomes active again. Personally, I've never been a fan of JB , so if Jungkook becomes a similar type of artist, than he is simply not the artist for me anymore.

How I Became A Swiftie

2008, Love Story comes on the radio and 14 year old me falls completely in love with the song. As a young closeted boy growing up in rural Norfolk (UK), I definitely kept my music tastes as private as possible. I still remember bringing my music player into college (a place where I felt a little more confident in expressing myself) and was teased BY THE TUTORS for having Katy Perry on there...

I'd never been much of a full-album/full-discography person until recently, so I generally only downloaded particular songs that I came across naturally. Love Story had and always will be on that old music player. As the years went on, I added more of the big hits by Taylor as I heard them, including I Knew You Were Trouble, 22, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Blank Space, Shake It Off, and Bad Blood. I remember the music video for Shake It Off coming out and watching it SO MANY TIMES. As an ex-dancer, I loved all the different styles she included.

I didn't really keep up with music trends or anyone in-particular for a LONG time. I always knew I wanted an artist that really spoke to me with their work that I could be absorbed into, but I hadn't given anyone the chance. I think I tried with a small British singing group called Blake for a while. I bought all their CDs and was lucky enough to see them live. But I definitely needed something more personal to me.

Cut to Red (Taylor's Version) coming out and the short film of All Too Well (10 Minute Version) releasing. I loved Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and I'd heard things about the song All Too Well being heart-breaking, so I decided to give it a watch. Well, I was sold. I listened to that song so many times, I learnt all the words in a couple of days. It related to a heartbreak I had been through so closely, I still believe I was meant to hear it. So, the 10-minute version is actually the first rendition I heard. I was talking to my friends about my want to find an artist and was mentioning different songs I love, including ATW. They advised me to give her whole discography a listen, right from the beginning.

This was around the start of October 2022. So, I make my way through all of her albums. I loved Debut/Self-Titled on first listen and it still has a special place in my heart, being the first full album of Taylor's that I listened to. However, I got to the end of evermore by October 20th (I took my time with it), and as any swiftie knows, Midnights came out on the 21st, which just so happens to be my birthday!

I genuinely believed this woman was meant to come into my life, because I completely adored that album when I heard it, and I had it ON REPEAT on my commute to and from campus for my third year of uni. I still thank Taylor for helping me with my degree because I was very close to dropping out because of growing stress and panic issues, but her music helped me so much with the travelling side of things.

I'd also never felt so connected and understood by an artist, even as a British man. Her words are complete poetry and her melodies captured my heart. I cannot imagine my life without her music now.

Since then, I have listened to anything and everything she has written, and I fiercely keep up with all that she is willing to share. I started collecting her CDs (all stolen versions were bought second-hand) and I started pre-ordering from her website since the tour began. I don't believe this is what makes me a swiftie, I just knew I wanted to support her in my own way, as I was too overwhelmed to order tickets to the show, even though I would love to go.

And now here I am, a fully fledged swiftie. I have so much respect and adoration for that woman. I don't really use any form of social media other than TikTok, but I have to say I've never felt so excited and welcomed by a community in my life. The anticipation of new music and generally discussing what tracks we love etc has given me such a fun avenue in life, which makes the struggles a little easier.

Thank you Taylor for everything you do. You truly saved my life and I will forever be grateful to you for that.

Merry Pink Christmas

A small and warm Christmas party just for IU.

IU, who has been trapped in the distant past for a long time as ‘Jang Manwol’, came back to us with her new album <Love Poem>. "I spent a year that was as rewarding as the amount of effort I exerted", as she was saying this, it's as if she's comforting someone through each word and syllable packed with warmth. Sometimes, IU's songs are like a fierce and sensitive cat, however at times they're also like an old person who has lived through all the years; but especially this winter, just like the lyrics that says "I'll sing for you who is walking through an unusually long night," her songs cozily settle down our hearts like a Christmas present. Following this comes a simple yet warm 'Merry Christmas' letter or a light greeting sent to <HIGH CUT> from IU of 2019 who has shined like a big snowflake.

2019 is almost coming to an end. Did all of the things you wished for this year work out well?

IU: Surprisingly, it was a year where everything I hoped for came true. The drama <Hotel del Luna> received so much love, and the album which I prepared for a long time was also successfully released to the world. The big concert also ended successfully. I was fully rewarded for all the things I worked hard on, I think it has been an amazing year.

Your new album <Love poem> is very popular. It's not an easy feat for (your songs) to be a hit every time like this, what do you think is the secret to keeping IU's style while receiving love from so many people?

IU: Of course, there are various reasons that are within and beyond my abilities which cannot be explained one by one, but I would like to point out 'timing' in particular. Thankfully, I think that the words I wanted to say through this album and the words that the listeners wanted to hear from me aligned well.

Christmas is approaching. What meaning does Christmas day have for IU?

IU: It's a day where I can be with people whom I love. Last year, I spent Christmas while having a concert in Taiwan, and everyone in our team wore outfits according to the dress code. After the concert, we had a fun time picking the best dresser and having an after-party. That happy memory feels like yesterday, so I'm surprised that a new Christmas has already come. I think it's also because I feel a bit sad that time flies like an arrow.

Today's photoshoot was like an advanced Christmas party. Perhaps because it's a jewelry photoshoot, but it seems like IU was shining even more today. Was there anything you liked?

IU: I usually collect earrings. From time to time, I tend to buy things I find pretty, from fancy items that I would never wear outside, to classic items. Today too, as expected, my eyes were naturally attracted to the earrings. I especially liked the model which was shaped after the 'U' based on my name 'IU'.

What are your plans for this year's Christmas?

IU: I have a concert in Bangkok for this year's Christmas Eve. I think I'll spend it together with my team, similar to last year. It will be a loud and busy day filled with funny events.

If there's a Christmas gift you would like to give to those who you love, and to those who love IU, what would it be?

IU: An electric heating pad haha. Recently, a heating pad the size of a knee blanket has been released, and it's very nice. I want to give out very random gifts ahaha.

IU: Hmm... I want to become an even better friend to good friends of mine.

ugh ohmygod so I saw this post and it made me so mad that I simultaneously wanted to reblog it just to rant in the tags and to not reblog it so that I could avoid sharing it with /more/ people

listen. music is universal. when a singer, songwriter, producer, lyricist, musician, team puts something out into the world, there may be emotions that they are trying to put into it. They will draw on these emotions as they perform and edit and refine this thing they are making. There may be a story they are trying to tell, an experience they are trying to communicate, and this may not be straightforward; there is a level of abstraction between conceptualization and realization that I am convinced exists to some level in all pieces of art like this. This is not a flaw; this is marvellous. When I the listener interact with a song, or an album, or an artist's entire body of work - the emotions that I feel and the story that is conveyed to me may be just. absolutely different from the artist's intentions and their own experience. It may resonate with me in an entirely different way than intended; it may resonate with someone else in a separate, distinct, discrete way. My and others' awareness of the artist and any context they have made clear may play a part in this or it may not; it depends on how I interact with music and how readily available this information is.

All this is to say: the only fucked up thing with this whole gaylor shit is the part where people are convinced that their interpretation of her music and the way it resonates with them indicates some fundamental truth about her identity. The only person who knows that is her and frankly it's none of anyone else's business and it's probably not that interesting anyway. But!!! this does not mean that her music cannot resonate with someone's experience of queerness!!!! It is story and song and a vehicle for emotion, and the details that make something sing true to someone's life and values are not pinned to the artist's "true identity" like a fuckin. butterfly to a corkboard. there is VALUE and DELIGHT in being aware of some additional dimension of queerness by virtue of the singers intentions or identity or whatever but that's a fucking BONUS you NIMRODS the only thing you need is a heart to feel things and a song to feel them about it's about YOU and how you interpret things. you change things just by existing!!! the only person to experience a song the way you do is YOU!!! "if I wanna listen to gay music I'll listen to gay ppl singing about gay sex" good for you!! but what a sad and limited life you must lead to need the significance and meaning of art spoonfed to you by author bios.

I love its mini-solos, and the feeling when you are in one of their concerts and James sings "Searching..." and you and everyone there shout in unison, "SEEK AND DESTROY!" is awesome!

I love the different tunes/styles that you have during the song. I remember how impacted I was when I first heard/understood the lyrics. (And the pyrotechnics used when they are playing this live are so cool!) (It was also a hell of a song to beat when playing Guitar Hero)

I got this LP record as a gift when I was younger, it was the first one of their albums that I owned and I listened to it sooo many times - so most of its songs have a special place in my heart. But "The unforgiven" is special to me (the whole 'trilogy'), I have a connection with it that I cannot put in words.

Merle Haggard - Down Every Road 1962-1994

I've spent four consecutive hours on Merle Haggard now. This is basically the mans entire career it's a lot to take in and I just don't understand why there are so many compilations on this list. Early Merle Haggard is great, some of the singing cowboy croon but with a bit of edge, and stark lyrics about his real life growing up at the end of the depression, living as a vagrant and being in and out of jail. It's the original outlaw country and it's fantastic. Unfortunately Haggard had a major hit with the song Okee From Muskogee, a conservative anti hippie pro Vietnam war anthem. The question of whether he meant the song as satire or not is a debate that ultimately does not matter because, while a lot of left wingers including Phil Ochs found the song funny, it still became a republican anthem that got Haggard the attention of Nixon. The rest of his career is marked by a combination of reactionary politics and occasionally very interesting instrumentation. The inclusion of more and more elements of jazz, blues, and bluegrass throughout the 70s was neat, but he just fades back into blandness as his career rolls to a stop. I'll recommend this comp up until you hit Okee From Muskogee then just stop.

Donna Summer - Bad Girls

This isn't just Donna Summer's magnum opus, it's disco's as well. The combination of Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder were unstoppable when it came to producing the best music in the world. This double album absolutely makes the most of its length bringing us extended disco grooves, a bit of rock influence and some soul numbers, plus Moroder's deliciously goopy synths. It's the most variety of any disco record I've listened to. Just listen to this one. Bad Girls my favorite disco album and prolly just one of my favorite albums period. This might be the first album that I think is exactly where it belongs on this list.

Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours

If you gotta get really dramatic about your divorce then this is the way to do it. I'm typically more a fan of swingin' Franky than crooning Franky but this album is so dramatic I gotta respect. The perfect collection of songs about love and loss are matched by Sinatra's overly syrupy voice and the amazing orchestral jazz arrangements of Nelson Riddle. Sometimes personal and sultry and other time large and dramatic. It's a fantastic collection of ballads from the great American songbook.

Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson

Harry Nilsson was an artist who didn't really ever find his audience, if there was ever one to find. His only hits being covers and the terribly racist Coconut which is unfortunately featured here. In the world of 70s adult contemporary there were two types of sound, folk rock and art pop. Nilsson is the latter with dynamic arrangement and a sense for rock flair. The music itself works really well most of the time, but lyrically he can't decide whether he wants to be somber and morose or deeply unserious and goofy. If you don't mind the whiplash then it's mostly enjoyable, but I can't reconcile a piece of shit like Coconut with a masterpiece like Jump Into The Fire.

50 Cent - Get Rich Or Die Tryin'

It is impossible for me to take 50 Cent's ridiculous persona seriously. Just cause he got shot doesn't make this any less an act of kayfabe. I cannot get into his stupid fucking bravado at all. I don't know why, I tolerate a lot of campy bullshit from all kinds of artists, but 50 Cent is apparently my limit. Every word out of his mouth is the most ridiculous claim you have ever heard, from the people he's killed, to his sexual prowess, to the level of respect he commands. Plus his integration of melodic elements into the beats and hooks are really lazy. His hard ass persona and sing song hooks are so at odds with each other. The production kinda blows too, but the inconsistency is less 50 Cents fault than the trend in hip hop at the time of having a different producer for every song.

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York

This concert is a great snapshot of Nirvana at their peak. It is nearly devoid of hits. The most popular song they play is Come As You Are and the rest is deep cuts and covers. The covers are honestly the focal point of the album. The Vaselines Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam, David Bowie's Man Who Sold The World, three Meat Puppets songs in a row, and it closes on a version of the folk song Where Did You Sleep Last Night. The Bowie cover is probably the most famous, but my god does Cobain nail the vocal delivery on Lake Of Fire and Where Did You Sleep Last Night especially. There may not be any cryptic suicide note to uncover here, but you can tell he was a tortured soul.

Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy

I like Zeppelin best when they are experimenting. Houses Of The Holy definitely sees them experimenting, although just fucking around might sometimes be more accurate. The album mostly consists of some of their best work. The Song Remains The Same, The Rain Song, and Over The Hills And Far Away are truly amazing. However we also have to contend with the mess that is D'yer Make'r, a pathetic attempt at a reggae song, and whatever the fuck The Crunge is supposed to be. It's only two shit songs, but on an eight song album that's a quarter of the runtime.

Alicia Keys - The Diary Of Alicia Keys

I can't in good conscience say that Alicia Keys is a bad musician, but if there was a factory default setting for neo soul singers it would be her. She never really reaches beyond the confines of 'I need a good man' balladry and she doesn't do it as well as most of her contemporaries.

Radiohead - The Bends

The entire Radiohead catalogue is a parade of angst ridden melancholy, but The Bends is more alt rock and more grounded than the rest. While the 90s were a hotbed of aimlessly dramatic alternative rock sad sacks, Radiohead brought this air of hopelessness that really just makes you feel bad. I don't think I'm selling this album very well. It's good, really good. Thom Yorke is very good at going from a whisper to a wail to a falsetto all in one verse, and Greenwoods guitars have an atmospheric quality that just drowns you. While their next couple albums would ramp up the quality and experimentation to unprecedented levels, The Bends still set the benchmark for quality in a Radiohead album.

✧ keeping tabs by niki: i can 100% see joshua listening to niki's music! her voice would match his really well imo and i could see him trying to harmonize with her voice as he was cleaning or smthn! while reader's emotions towards joshua aren't as strong as this song, it definitely has the same vibe!

you left without saying goodbye ---- i wish i never met you. you are the worst thing that i'm still keeping tabs on for some stupid reason. you were just being nice. now i fully believe you're out there somewhere also keeping tabs on how i might be feeling.

✧ sugarcoat (natty solo) by kiss of life: again this is veryyyyy joshua coded! when he recommended emotional oranges on summer vacation with vernon, i knew i had to add this track. the pop/rnb vibe is perfect. the lyric i included imo sums up how joshua came to his conclusions way too quick.

✧ still by jeff bernat: an artist that joshua has mentioned several times before! he's actually the person that got me into bernat's discography when i used to be a joshua/hoshi stan lol. another longing song (shocking to no one). goes over joshua's thoughts about getting past reader abandoning him :(

it's been a long time since we last spoke. i still wonder what you’re up to, after all that shit we've been through. ---- and there's probably people telling you that i’m doing fine, just taking my time. although it appears that i’m strong, it still hurts.

✧ not my job by flo: actually used lyrics of this song in 01. gentleman hong hahahaha. when reader asks joshua to tell the campers to knock it off with all the shipping, joshua says:

it's not my job to make you feel comfortable.

✧ summertime by flo: kinda inspired an interaction btwn reader and hoshi in 02. camper spirit when reader is like "i'm not going to let someone who deserted me ruin my summer."

second section: what are we?

✧ lemondrops by telana: the song that is behind it all!!!!!!!!!! i had no idea i was going to turn this into a series. it was originally going to be domestic fluff of reader giving joshua lemondrops so he could sing. but i mean hey, i gave credit where credits due, naming 06. popsicles and lemon drops after this song! just a very comforting song, one that definitely shows the dynamic between reader and joshua when they were close. the closeness that both of them miss.

✧ like i feel (feat. mereba) by xaiver omär: this song is LITERALLY about friends-to-lovers, i would be a fool to exclude it! kept this track on repeat while writing 11. taking inventory. joshua says to reader:

✧ m.h. by yeek: just added this song for my own pleasure tbh, but one of the main repeating lines is definitely joshua's feelings towards reader when he starts hanging out with them more (around part 06/07)

✧ simple life by lexy panterra: nothing much lyrically, just a summertime vibes track.

✧ mornings (see you again) by alextbh: for the he/him readers! alextbh writes so many songs w a guy lover in mind, so i highly recommend checking his discography out.

✧ good life by otis kane x clay: this song is so smooth and incredibly joshua coded. kinda reminds me of niki's songs as well, vibe wise.

all the games aside then, i want you in my space. and now that you're in my world i'll never be the same.

✧ the chase by alextbh: no lyrics for this one, very sad if you listen to them but the vibe of the song regarding the instrumental and such fit the series!

✧ bamboo by ivy sole: another song in there for vibes, very much a summertime song!

✧ back to us (feat. julissa leilani) by jeremy passion: filo-american singer! idk if he's ever recommended his music, but i mean listen to it and it's just the embodiment of joshua's vibe into a song. obviously this song holds a lot of meaning for the series, it is literally the title! the song is more about a couple falling out of love, but this is based on vibessssssss! (it's a groovy little song, what can i say?)

✧ je t'adore (feat. ty senoj) by sylo: another song in the playlist for vibes. but again, very joshua coded imo! groovy pop is right up his alleyyyyy

✧ trust by thuy & rini: oh? rini makes a comeback? definitely a good song for explaining how reader and joshua slowly open up to each other, their need to build trust first.

✧ blur by dhruv: joshua's double take cover remains iconic! and i really love dhruv's voice so i knew i wanted to add a song of his for sure! joshua's tweet in 08. another serious camper takes the first lyrics of the song:

✧ misfits' sunday by jooyoung: jooyoung's voice is perfect for a love story, i mean it fits all the moods. he usually does smooth rnb and although this is a newer sound he's been experimenting with, i thought the lyrics fit the series nicely!
