You'd seen lots of movies before with the exact same meet cute, but it didn't really feel cute when a magical spinning disc almost made its way through your skull. Your swordsmanship reflexes are very handy in this situation, and you dodge just enough to not die. It does leave a pretty nasty bruise on the side of your forehead, leaving you to glare grumpily at the figure that was slowly walking closer and closer to you, whom you assume is the one at fault. It's a muscular lion beastman with braids in his mane and a bored look on his annoyingly handsome face that you kind of want to throw the disc at. But you won't, because you're smarter than that. And also because this is Leona Kingscholar, the second prince of the beastmen.

He doesn't apologize until you repeatedly annoy him to do so, and even then, he doesn't do anything to acknowledge his mistake. Now, that's just so rude! You didn't want to deal with the love interests any more than you have to, but there's no way you're going to let this lion roam penalty-free when he left such a big wound on your face. So you get patched up by Jamil (thank you, Jamil) and start on your mission to annoy Leona until he apologizes and actually does something worthwhile for it. You follow him around, studying while he naps, and you've found that he's annoyingly smart too, grumbling out answers you couldn't find on your own. So, hey, you use him as a free tutor while you wait for that heartfelt apology. In the next few days, you spend so much time with him that your friends grow concerned, especially when they hear it's because you're trying to get a sincere apology from Leona, of all people. You can tough it out a bit more, though.

You force him to come with you to the cafeteria instead of getting his food for him, and you pull him towards his classes out of spite. By some miracle, he reluctantly lets you play with his hair, and you decide to cut him some slack. You think you've annoyed him enough, and it doesn't seem like your apology'll ever come, so you give up. It's okay; you weren't supposed to be close again to a male lead anyway. It only takes two days after that for Leona to knock on your door with an apology as well as a bead bracelet like one of his own, and you find it in your dumb little human heart to forgive him. And he says he doesn't like it when you avoid him.

So...are you and Leona friends or...?

"Senpai, you're slacking again!" You complain as you stomp towards his little spot in the garden. He seems asleep, but from the twitch of his fuzzy ears and the sway of his tail, you know better. You huff and sit down next to him, touching the tip of his ear and watching it flatten against his head to avoid you.

"What gives, herbivore?"

"Ha! So you were awake." You smile victoriously. Lifting a hand, you show him the miniature wooden chess set you bought from a bazaar the other day. "I have come to demand a rematch!"

Leona chuckles and pulls you down, using you as a pillow with his tail wrapped around your waist. "You can lose later. Since you're already here, be a good pillow and stay still, alright?"

A certain hyena beastman seems to have come to hate you. Ruggie Bucchi isn't too scary though, as right now, you're still the heir to a dukedom and he's still just Leona's aide. But, to be honest, you don't like the feeling of being hated. Especially since you don't even know what you've done! You've tried asking Leona but one, he tells you to just not care about it, and two, that only makes the glaring worse. You walk in circles in the human dorms' kitchens, almost tripping on air when suddenly, the best idea ever pops up in your mind. You could give Ruggie donuts, it was his favorite in the game. And it really wouldn't do you any favors to have a love interest hate you when you haven't even done anything to him yet (that reminds you, where are the main characters?).

Now, you could buy donuts, but you're already in the kitchen trying out recipes for a party that Kalim's throwing, so why not just make them while you're at it?

The sugary fluffy treats open up the hyena's mouth real quick, and when you reassure him that there was no way that you would ever steal his gig by being Leona's servant, he's good already. And that should be the end of the story. But it's not, because apparently, you make the best donuts ever according to Ruggie, and he trades you a couple chores for a couple donuts every few days. He's a funny guy, so you don't mind too much when he hangs around. Plus, you two get to laugh about gossip and little anecdotes he'd share, and whenever you have free time, you decide to bless him with your presence by helping him cook and clean and do the annoying lion's laundry. And hey, you really can't imagine Ruggie killing you at this point, or where else would he get the best donuts in the whole world?

That's one less male lead to worry about, at least.

Ruggie's eyes are so blue up close. Uh, why are they so close?

"Shishishishi, don't move around too much." He whispers mischievously, shifting around in the tiny space you've both found yourself in. "Ruggie senpai? Why are we in the janitor's closet?" You whisper back, glancing at the small opening on the door.

"Some guys lookin' for me, let 'em pass."

"What did you do?" You chuckle softly under your breath, trying not to be too loud. Ruggie replies with a shrug.

"Traded some items, guess they regretted it."

You know he used his spell to 'trade', and it makes you sigh before gently scolding him. "Senpai, can't you at least not get caught? I know you can handle yourself but it's worrying, you know?"

"Eh? Worried?" His eyes are wide as he repeats your words, before agreeing blankly. "Okay...I'll be more careful since, you're... uh, worried or whatever..."

Though they're overly smug and teasing about it, they absolutely melt inside. Especially if you're being affectionate in private

They love your little private moments so much. It makes them feel special that though you could've been with anyone else, you're there being affectionate with them instead

Qiu doesn't put in effort to be physically affectionate with anyone these days, but they're willing to do so if its for you

They got so used to your affection that anytime you're near each other and you don't start getting touchy with them after 2 seconds, they kinda get annoyed

Would always be searching for your warmth, it doesn't have to be much, just your pinkies intertwined or your shoulders brushing against each other is enough

anyway i want to introduce you all to my Big Cat Husband Household. this is an official thing i love them all. said household includes - black jaguar!toji, snow leopard!satoru, tiger!sukuna, black panther!suguru and mountain lion!tengen.

we all sleep on one bed and that bed is the size of a whole room btw they are massive. tengen and sukuna sleep on their backs while showing off their tummies to the world, satoru is always one move away from falling of the bed, suguru manages to be majestic even when he's asleep he looks like a statue with his paws crossed like that smh (i am jealous of his beauty) and i always end up sleeping under toji's side which means that i am at risk of him just turning over and suffocating me (i love it)

i also can never leave btw. like no bathroom breaks for me whatsoever bc i move an inch and suddenly i'm being yanked back to bed by any one of them and it's so??????????? weren't you just asleep?????????????????? they're all incredibly clingy (i also really love that ngl) oh and i die every summer. bc i am horrible with heat and they're all like HEATERS it's actually so bad and it's not like they really want to let me sleep anywhere else either smhhhhhhhhhh but since they love me<3 they take turns of sleeping with me in the living room instead of the bedroom

satoru also uhh kind of gets bullied by the others but he's genuinely so unbothered by it it's crazy. he also gets special treatment from me bc the others are mean and i am not, i like to baby him sm he gets the most ear scratches while the others glare at him from the other side of the room. satoru thinks it's very funny bc he loves the attention (the others love him too though dw i would actually kick them out if that wasn't the case)

sukuna and tengen tussle the most but it's all for fun they both like playing around a lot,, satoru often joins them too and it's a very entertaining thing to look at lmao toji and suguru typically just stare at them from the couch bc toji is lazy he just wants to lounge around all day and suguru thinks that he's better than the others in a way (?????)

(i also think it's really funny to add housecats dazai and chuuya to this household sometimes bc the idea of dazai and tengen sleeping in a patch of sunlight is so fucking funny,, dazai looks like a fucking twig next to tengen i think if the latter would place a hand over him he might actually break lmao chuuya and toji get along really well though they don't talk a lot but they just feel very comfortable around each other they also take naps together and it's the cutest sight ever)

Found family anime recommendation list

I've been thinking about making this rec list for a while because found family is my absolute favorite trope, so this is really self indulging haha 🤭

these are just some of my personal favorites, but if you guys have more recommendations please add them!

(This list contains spoilers!)

1. Dororo- absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful. the two main characters, Dororo and Hyakkimaru, develop such a special and precious bond throughout the story, and what makes it even more interesting is that at the beginning, Hyakkimaru is not able to see, hear, or really communicate with Dororo, and he gets those abilities slowly throughout the story (through killing demons haha yes it's that kind of story), so it makes the development of their relationship really unique. Both of them don't have their actual families for different reasons, but I absolutely LOVE the familial relationship they develop!

2. spy x amily - everyone's new favorite family lol. I don't think I need to elaborate, I love the little family they've built. it's so cute how all three of them have their own selfish reasons to want to keep this family unit, but at the same time care so deeply (and obliviously) for each other, I love it! there's not a single character I dislike, there wasn't a single episode i was bored watching (so far). it's like the perfect found family - they found each other, and just created a family instantly haha. If for any reason you're still not watching this, you really really should

3. banana fish - ugh honestly it's hard to find words for this one, it's so so SO good, but also, watch at your own risk, it's been years and my heart still hasn't recovered. The relationship between the two main characters, Ash and Eiji, is so beautiful and touching and tender, and it's so satisfying to watch. Ash deserves all the love omg 😭 I love how they take care of each other, how it's obvious to everyone how much they love each other. and i hate how it ended but that's a talk for another time...

4. Run with the wind - ok so i think most sports anime have an aspect of found family - your teammates become kinda your family, and friendships and bonds are usually the main focus. but i think it's especially highlighted in run with the wind - it's a show about running a marathon, and it's in a university setting (which already makes it more interesting lol). i LOVE connections between the characters. here as well, there's not a single character i dislike. even king who i didn't really care about in the beginning, I grew to love so much by the end. and Haiji might be my favorite character of all times. like throughout all platforms, he's my favorite. he created this team and he made them a family and i just wish i had a haiji in my life, you know? 😭

5. march comes in like a lion - ok, so, this one is especially precious to me, and i think it's my favorite anime of all times. officially, the show is about a boy who plays shogi professionally, and it is a part of it, but there's so much more to this anime. I've never watched anything that handled depression, and the journey of getting better, in a more accurate way than this show. the main character, Rei, is an orphan, and has a really complicated life story. he meets these three sisters, and is kinda invited to be a part of their little family. the relationships in this show are so touching and tender, even when nothing sad was happening i found myself crying. the sisters basically adopt rei, and little by little help him heal some of his wounds. the visuals of this show are perfect, you can feel everything rei is feeling. the sisters' house feels warm and inviting, while other spaces feel cold and disconnected. it's brilliant. also, the show handles the different characters with so much care, you end up caring about them all. i can go on forever lol, it's a masterpiece.

6. kids on the slope - another brilliant show. this is a slice of life, and the focus is on the friendship of three teens in the 60's. i love this one because even though they all have families that play a part in the story, they still become like a family to one another. their relationships are so touching, and so realistic. it deals with jealousy and friendship and love and loneliness in such a realistic, relatable way. for example one of the boys gets really jealous when his friend gets a new friend, it makes him lash out in such an unreasonable way, but at the same time you can totally relate to what he's feeling, because like, which one of us hasn't been there, right? i really recommend! (Also, the music is absolutely fantastic!)

7. Umibe no Etranger- maybe some people would think this doesn't belong here, but i totally think that along with love, this movie is totally about found family 😊 the two main boys are both on their own, Mio because he was orphaned, and Shun because he lost connection with his family after coming out. throughout the story, they become each other's family and support system (especially if you keep reading the manga like i have hehe🤭). i love their relationship so much!

8. fruits basket - again, maybe it's not the main trope, but it's definitely very much there! tohru, who is left without a family, finds a new family in the form of the very dysfunctional sohma family, that cares about her immensely, while she also cares about them and helps them heal and break their curse. i never read the manga or watched the old anime, and i didn't expect this to be as deep and painful as it was, but honestly one of my favorite shows right now.

9. Poko's udon world - so! freaking! cute! is it a ploy to make people have families and kids? perhaps. do i care? nope. Poko is the cutest child character ever, and the parent-child relationship between sota and poco is so precious, this is the most literal definition of a found family lol- sota found poco and basically instantly adopted him. the story is really touching and cute!

10. Clannad + Clannad after story - ugh i don't know if I'm able to talk about this one again, as it makes my heart hurt. this is one of my all time favorites. i think even though it's a love story, above all else it's a story about family. i wasn't sure if it fits the "found family" category but decided it does. even before nagisa and tomoya get married, tomoya is basically adopted by nagisa's family. they take him in to allow him some distance from his father, and show him how happy and loving a family can be. Also, all the friendship in the story are meaningful and have a familial feel to them. throughout the show there's a lot of focus on the subject of family, which leads to the main characters creating their own new little family unit. if you've been living under a rock i must warn you, I've never cried this much while watching a show in my life. while the ending is a happy one (well... in a bizarre kind of way, i guess), there's so much pain throughout the whole show, it's overwhelming at times. still, it's so so good and i really recommend to give it a try! (please, get through the first season and get to Clannad after story, it's really worth it!)

11. Usagi drop- i also wasn't sure if this fits the found family category, as it deals with an actual family, but wth, it's my list i can do what i want lol. very sweet story about a guy who adopts his grandfather's 6 year old daughter when he dies (yes, his aunt, basically), when no one else in the family wants to take her in. it's very sweet, very touching. they slowly become a family, and he learns what it means to be a single parent, and what sacrifices he has to make (like getting demoted at his job so he'll have more time to take care of his kid). the show is very wholesome, but don't read the manga, as i heard it went in different, less wholesome directions.

12. kotaro lives alone- this show was a ride! i was expecting a silly show about a 4 year old boy who lives alone, and got a heartbreaking show about neglect and trauma. his neighbors become his family throughout the show, and come to love him a lot and take care of him, and their relationships are very entertaining and sweet. ngl, i cried a lot during this show. i do think it deals with some very triggering things, so you should check that before watching 😊

Daemon frowned, "It can't wait until we are back to the camp?" his son shook his head.

"It's about a lady." The older prince opened a large smirk. It wasn't the first time they had this kind of talk.

Rhaegon has been doing it since he was younger, every time he had a crush on a different lady.

Daemon dealt with this better than you ever did.

One time, Rhaegon told you he was in love with his sister's young Septa. The next day, you changed Alyssa's septa to a much older one. The boy thought she looked like a frog.

Since then, he has never talked about women with you ever again.

But between young septas and handmaids that Rhaegon easily fell in love with, this time he was really off his feet.

"Really? Is it really a lady this time?" Daemon chuckled as Rhaegon rolled his eyes.

"Yes, it is. In fact, it's Cerelle Lannister, Lord Jason's daughter." Rhaegon answered.

"Yes, father. I think it is. But you should be the one to talk to mother about it, I don't want her making a big deal out of it. And also, Lord Lannister..."

"You know your mother, she's going to do it as she pleases. But I'll send a raven to Jason. He won't refuse this betrothal, but I can't promise he will like you. That cunt hates me, I'm sure he will do the same with you once you wed his daughter."

Rhaegon nodded. That wasn't a problem for him. What is a lion compared to a dragon?

"But are you really ready for marriage? Because it comes with pressure. You know our line must go on, and I would like for our blood to remain pure. I don't think there's anyone better for your sister than you, and I don't want her to end up with someone lower than her." Daemon sighed. His parents were siblings, and he wanted for his children to be betrothed, just like his parents were.

"I definitely don't want to marry Alyssa, and I'm sure she would hate the idea too. Besides, you could marry her to Daeron, so the bloodline would remain pure, and she'd be marrying into royalty."

"I rather watch Caraxes eat her whole than marry her to Alicent's kin." Daemon grumbled, "And I am serious about the pressure. You need to have heirs. Once Rhaenyra ascends to the throne, she will make me Prince of Dragonstone again, and you will be my heir."

"I know, father! It is my duty, but I don't need to be reminded of it all the time!" Rhaegon scowled.

"But you do! Do you even know how to–" Daemon started, but the young prince cutted his father off.

And as I suspected, today's chapter turned out to be a pretty chill one...!! 😄 So let's talk about it, shall we? 😁

First off...:

WHAT KIND OF EXCUSE IS THAT FIONA (AND OR WISE!?!?) 😂 If I heard that someone fell from the fourth floor to the first floor, I WOULD'VE ASSUMED THAT THEY DIED!! 😵

(Also, Mr. Gorey from Mission 67 shows up, nice[?] to him again...! I guess... 😌)

Anyway, Mr. Gorey is there to drop off the medical files of the VIP patients, but then the "nurse" comes in to tell him to leave Fiona to rest, and I just as I suspected, the "nurse" was actually Handler!! 😆

It always nice to see Handler / Sylvia and it's also nice see how much she cares for her agents...!! 💗😊💗

We also get some confirmation that Fiona's training in woods might've actually saved her from being in even worse shape than she already is...!! 😆

I LOVE THIS CALLBACK!! 😆

After that, this happens...:

I've been hoping since Mission 24 that we'd progressively hear about how Yor's cooking was getting better and better...!! But, that didn't really happen until JUST NOW...

Moving on, after breakfast Loid heads to his room to rest while Anya and Yor spend some time together...!! 💗🥹💗 Yor asks Anya if she had fun at the zoo, which of course she did, and shows her mama what she got at the zoo...!! And just like in Short Mission 3, Bond gets jealous...!! 😁

But instead of ripping up her new plush pal like he did with Agent Penguinman, he ruffles his fur to look like a lion to get Anya's attention!! 🤭

After seeing Bond look like a lion, Anya asks Bond to try to mimic other animals to varying degrees (Elephant Bond was not a success, while Giraffe Bond was... 🤭😂🤣 You get idea...!! 😁)

After that, Yor fixes Bond's hair brushing him and seeing how happy he looks, Anya wants to get her hair brushed as well...!! 💗

This just warms my heart to the highest degree...!! 💗🥹💗 (I am loving all this BONDing time between the three of them...!! 💗😭💗)

Then... The man, the myth, the legend; FRANKY RETURNS!! 😆

And Anya tries to have him get his hair did, but Yor declines because she thinks no one will recognize him...!! 🤣

Poor Franky...!! 😌

Finally, Loid hears the commotion and comes out of his room, only for him to immediately go back into his room...!! 🤣

And that was Mission 87, a fun return after a four week wait that honestly felt like forever!! Seriously, I don't know why, but the wait for this chapter really felt like we waited TWO WHOLE MONTHS instead of just one...!! 😵

Besides my horrible sense of time, this chapter was an absolute delight...!! 😊 From Sylvia and Fiona's interaction to Yor and Anya's mother daughter time (with Bond), I enjoyed it a ton...!! 💗😁💗

I'm excited to see what's next for our favorite manga / anime family, the Forgers and what Endo is gonna put them through!! 😁

But before I go, I'd like to do something that haven't really done before, recommend a series I've recently became a fan of...!! 😄 The series that I'm recommending is called Undead Unluck...!! I started reading it two Thursdays ago, and...

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT...!! 💗😍💗

It's about an undead guy who meets an unlucky girl that causes bad things to happen whenever someone touches her... The undead guy (Andy) wants the the unlucky girl (Fuuko) to give him THE GREATEST DEATH EVER, and then their journey begins...!!

I don't know if it'll be everyone's cup of tea (especially from just that short synopsis that I just gave 😅), but I think that if y'all just give it a shot and stick with it for a bit, you'll (hopefully) be enthralled by the amazing cast of characters, their development and the crazy world that they live in...!! 😁 (Or you could also just watch the anime for it that's coming out in October, but I still suggest reading as well...!! 😊👍)

Sorry to disrupt my usual flow of my reviews to promote another manga, but I honestly haven't had another manga that has grabbed my attention this much in recent years since Spy X Family and Chainsaw Man, and I just want more people to give a chance after I myself ignored it for years...!!

alright let's start off easy xD

the fandom's thoughts on how dabi would react to finding out his s/o is pregnant seem to go in two different directions. either he's terrified and leaves for good or he sees it as a chance to prove that he's better than his dad. personally i usually go with the second one bc i want him to be happy xD

which leads us straight to girl dad dabi 🥺 i'll never get enough of thinking about dabi with a little girl that takes after him in a way that's almost scary. they have the same stunning blue eyes and it helps him learn to love them bc now they don't remind him of his dad anymore but his daughter instead.

she has the same unruly hair as him and it's a real pain to get under control. dabi even learns to braid her hair (it takes a while tho lmao) bc she always wants him to do it :3

your daughter also turns out to be a picky eater. her daddy doesn't like smt? she doesn't like it either. but this works the other way round as well. her daddy loves smt? she loves it as well. this becomes a little worrying tho after a while when the little girl starts to show interest in fighting heroes and worst of all: arson 💀

one time you find her in her room smearing watercolors all over her face and arms - purple to be exact - bc she wants to look just like her dad. and when you tell her that she can't get the staples she so desperately wants it breaks her little heart 😭

STOP RIGHT THERE MILK. STOP. RIGHT. THERE. MILK.

do you want me to cry? do you want me to shed tears so bad? like... the way dabi would absolute dote on his daughter, treating her with the outmost love and respect, never missing a chance to spend some quality time with you both like going to the sea or have late afternoon walks, granting every single wish of hers under your tender glance and smile like– he’s so gonna make sure she gets all the love, appreciation and attention your daughter wants and deserves.

at some point you gotta step in because he’s so ready to comply to every single request she does, even the craziest ones, a single syllable of your daughter and dabi is already on the move with the most chill and stoic face ever.

like that one time the three of you went to the zoo and your daughter said a simple “mr. lion looks so majestic, i love it so much!”, the next thing you know dabi was climbing up the fence, with the guards yelling at him that he can’t while you stand there trying to hide yourself behind your hands, not from the embarrassment but because of laughters since you didn’t expect him to do something so extreme “my daughter wants a lion and i’m gonna give her that fucking lion, ya heard me?!”, yeah no, he’d definitely go ballistic at any request from his little mochi.

in the end you guys got away with a plushie of a lion that your daughter loves, but to which dabi clicked his tongue at because he wanted to give her the real thing and not a miniaturised version of it, in all this you’re just laughing amused at funny all this situation was for you.

and i’m not allowing anyone to fight me about this, he would 100% read your daughter fairytales before going to sleep. dabi would lay with her on her small bed letting your daughter use his chest as cushion while he reads with soft soothing voice the fairytale of the night, once she’s asleep he would gently tuck her in and kiss her on the forehead lovingly, because she is one of the most precious existences to him.

and as you looked at them tenderly from the doorway, arms crossed to your chest, you really thought that dabi’s initial fear of not being a good dad was for nothing because he turns out to be an awesome dad for the splendid daughter you two have.

With a heavy heart, you make your way to the opposite side of the ship, seeking solace in the solitude it offers. Nestling yourself near the rear end, you find a spot to sit, allowing the tears to flow freely down your cheeks. The floodgates have opened, and you no longer hold back the torrent of emotions that have been building within you.

The past few days have been an exhausting whirlwind, filled with constant threats and fighting. Buggy's humiliation and your own anger were just the visible manifestations of the deeper emotional turmoil that has been hidden beneath the surface. The weight of it all feels overwhelming, like an iceberg of pent-up feelings that now come crashing down upon you.

The waves of sadness and frustration wash over you, their intensity leaving you feeling drained and empty. The persistent headache that had been lurking in the background reemerges but you just accept that this seems to be your life now. 

The crew around you chooses to avert their gaze, perhaps intimidated by the vulnerable sight of a girl experiencing a small breakdown.

Only Mohji seems not to care, accompanied by his loyal companion Richie, he walks over to where you sit, settling down beside you. In a gesture of unexpected kindness, he extends a small, albeit slightly soiled, handkerchief towards you. Grateful for the offered support, you accept it with appreciation. Taking the handkerchief in hand, you proceed to blow your nose with a gusto befitting a pirate, much to Richie's surprise.  “You know, we are going to Loguetown. If you want to leave, you can just hide somewhere in town…” Mohji says this very nonchalant and you wonder why he knows the reason for your sadness. You decide to trust him and ask carefully: “Did I really agree to stay here last night? Was I that drunk?” Mohji shrugs his shoulders and scratches his head. “Honestly, I wasn't there, I have no idea what happened. I went down to the quarters to get some more wine when you walked over to the Captain and sat down with him. I am not sure what he made you do but Cabaji was there and he is backing up Buggys story…” 

Mohji sighs and you wipe away one last tear from your reddened cheek. “You know, if our captain wants something, he can be really determined, decisive… I would say he can be very obsessive. He did not want to let you go. That is for sure.” 

“But why?”, you look at Mohji in confusion. 

"I believe he holds you in high regard," Mohji remarks, his voice carrying a touch of admiration. "After all, you saved him and helped in his return to his ship and crew."

Richie yawns and lays down next to you. His fur felt so soft last night and you lean against him once more, the lion willing you to let you cuddle with him a bit longer. 

“Try to make the best out of it until we reach Loguetown and then you have the choice to leave. It is not that you have a certain place on the Grand Line you need to reach, right?” 

You just shake your head. Actually you had no plan at all and escaping in Loguetown sounded even better than any random island on the East Blue. 

Mohji smiles now and you feel gratitude towards him. 

“Everything will be alright. Don't think too bad of the captain. He is not as good with words as he is with his knives…” 

Mohji remains by your side, offering a quiet presence as the soothing sea breeze envelops you both. Its gentle caress lulls you into a state of relaxation, finally pushing you into another peaceful nap. The distant cries of seagulls provide a serene soundtrack, blending harmoniously with the rhythmic lapping of waves against the ship's hull.

Before you drift into your nap, you decide to act as shamelessly as you can around the captain because no one has the right to tell you what to do.

The hours go by slowly and without any interruption. Once you awaken from your nap, you seize the opportunity to explore the ship, curious to acquaint yourself with its nooks and crannies. You ask Mohji for a place in the crew's quarters where you can sleep at night and he shows you a small chamber which probably used to be the cleaning room. There were just two hammocks hanging in there and a small closet, but you were able to have this little space all for yourself and you thanked him a lot. That was pure luxury compared to what you were used to at the Snowland pirates ship. After all these years you knew being surrounded by many men for many weeks on one vessel made you crave having a little bit of privacy.

Mohji gave you another tour through the ship, he showed you the kitchen and the navigators office, there was even a bathroom with a shower usable by a sea water pump and he told you to just lock the door in case you wanted to use it alone for yourself. You decided that this would be the next thing you would do since no one seemed to need your help on deck.

“"One more question, Mohji," you inquire, your voice laced with a hint of uncertainty. "Does this ship have provisions for weapons or armor? I feel somewhat vulnerable without a sword."

Mohji considers your question for a moment, his expression shifting between amusement and concern. "We do have weapons," he responds, a chuckle escaping his lips. "But I must warn you, considering your previous anger towards Buggy, I'm not certain he would be pleased to see you armed."

You laugh. "Rest assured, I am still very angry. However, I also possess a sense of honor. I would never attempt to harm him without giving him fair warning. Besides, in a duel, I would probably lose anyway..."

Mohji nods, seemingly convinced by your words. Despite his willingness to assist, he hesitates, bound by the constraints of his own orders. "I believe you would need to seek permission from the captain," he admits reluctantly. "As much as I want to help you..."

Understanding his dilemma, you offer a grateful nod, acknowledging the limits of his assistance. The comfort and companionship he has provided to you already means the world. Without him you would probably still sit on deck crying. “If you don't mind, I will take a shower now, looks like no one else will use the bathroom for a while…” 

Mohji hands you a towel which is slightly cleaner than the handkerchief he offered you earlier. Then he leaves you alone in the hall of the ship, wishing you a restful afternoon. You feel a bit more at ease now, more determined to find a solution for your recent situation. You also try to forgive Buggy for his hurtful remark, but you also know this will take a while. You are not the forgiving type. 

The bathroom is small but cozy, it reminds you of an Eastern style bathroom. A simple mirror adorns the wall, reflecting the inviting atmosphere. Instead of a conventional shower head, a humble bucket stands ready to assist in cleansing. With practiced ease, you turn on the boiler, its gentle hum filling the air as it sets the process of heating the seawater in motion. The anticipation of a warm and soothing bath stirs within you, prompting a mindful undressing, each garment removed with care. There is even soap and shampoo, this is more luxury for a ship full of men than you expected. As you fill the bucket with the now heated water, a renewed sense of anticipation washes over you. The steam rises, you immediately feel your headache going away. You wash yourself thoroughly, enjoying the moment of self-treatment and solitude. As you finish up and plan to just soak some more minutes in the hot bath you suddenly hear a commotion in front of the room, someone vigorously attempting to open the door, rattling the doorknob. 

“Who is using the bathroom during the day?”, you clearly hear Buggys furious voice. He probably has finally risen from his hangover and wanted to do the same like you - trying to feel refreshed and better. 

You smile to yourself, soaking a bit deeper into the warm water, without answering. 

“This is your captain, I am asking again, who is in there? Leave the bathroom immediately, I have utmost priority.” 

“It is me, the shameless girl. You can use the room in ten minutes. But probably only with cold water!” 

“Gah!”, you hear him banging his fist against the door, probably hurting himself while doing so. A short episode of silence and then you hear him laughing and slowly walking away. 

This was probably the first fight today you had won against him. 

As you later leave the bathroom, the towel around your still wet hair you go back to the chamber which Mohji had allowed you to use. As you cautiously open the door, a sudden shriek escapes your lips, propelled by a mixture of shock and surprise. Sitting before you, occupying the lower hammock in the room, is none other than Captain Buggy himself. His hat rests in his lap, while his hands absentmindedly toy with a collection of knives, an intriguing and somewhat unsettling display.

“Oh, look at you, all fresh and cleaned up. Did you enjoy the luxury of a ship you so eagerly wanted to leave?”, he greets you with a sly grin. 

Choosing not to engage in his playful banter, you calmly walk past the captain, your focus fixed on the task at hand. The towel in your hand absorbs the moisture from your hair as you continue with your post-bath routine, unbothered by his presence.

Taking a seat on the small closet, you meticulously comb through your damp hair, shaping it into your familiar and preferred hairstyle. You punish him with silence and as you do this you can feel his gaze on your face and body. 

"So you've chosen to remain silent and defy your captain?" Buggy's voice carries a subtle undercurrent of frustration as he rises from his seated position and advances towards you. Sensing a shift in the atmosphere, you refuse to partake in this game any longer.

In an instant, you stand up, determined and resolute. Completing your bath and your self-care, your focus shifts entirely to asserting your boundaries. You step towards the door, ignoring Buggy again. But then you turn around once more, facing him directly with the damp towel in your hand. Without hesitation, you fling the wet towel, catching Captain Buggy off guard as it lands squarely on his surprised face.

“Excuse me, captain. I am needed on deck. I was asked to make myself more useful.” 

Leaving Captain Buggy dumbfounded in your wake, you close the door without looking back. That was probably the second fight you won today. 

Throughout the evening and into the night, you find yourself on deck, your sleep schedule disrupted by sporadic daytime naps and the occasional night time festivities. Despite your lack of motivation to be on this ship, you demonstrate your worth as a valuable crew member. 

Perched atop the crows nest, you diligently maintain your watch, scanning the horizon for any signs of danger. The days have been blessed with clear skies and gentle breezes, yet a sense of uncertainty lingers within you. Could this tranquility be the ominous calm preceding a storm?

Wrapped in a warm blanket, you settle into your post, binoculars in hand, handed to you by a fellow crew member. The crows nest becomes your sanctuary, a vantage point from which you keep a vigilant eye on the ship's surroundings.

Amidst the solitude, a sudden sound pierces the tranquility. Your attention sharpens as you witness someone climbing up, ascending the heights to join you. To your surprise, it is Mohji, recognizable by his extravagant bear-like hairstyle. With an air of urgency, he swiftly places a sword into your lap, its blade showing signs of wear but still serviceable.

In a hushed tone, Mohji whispers: "Don't tell the captain!" With a nimble descent, he disappears back down the mast.  You can only offer a silent gesture of appreciation, your lips forming a wordless "thank you" in response. 

Maybe it was not so bad with the Buggy pirates after all…

Hello‚ KuraMonody's author here. First of all thanks for mentioning Hasani in that hyena character post, it made me really happy :3

I wanted to jump in this lion "discourse" because I'm salty haha. I only have watched a few clips of My Pride but never fully watched because I picked up some red flags even before the drama came out so I'm surprised it was promoted as "realistic" lion media. I Hope So handles the same concept way better I think.

I'm getting off track here‚ what I wanted to say is‚ when it comes to lion media I think people tend to be obsessed with the idea that it should be 100% realistic even if what they believe is actually fake. If people belive MP is accurate then they will stick to MP. There's a pattern to this‚ with TLK for example‚ there's this wild belief that Scar/ Mufasa's is 100% Nala father or that Scar should be the atractive one of the brothers even tho those movies are about singing lions and you can tell it's purely fictional‚ but for some reason people are convinced some stuff should be super accurate to real life.

Then there's the fake widely known facts. I got a bunch of comments about how male lions don't hunt even tho they DO and they were nomads so it's logical that they would hunt. People tend to have those facts as completely true‚ just like saying hyenas are pure scavengers or something. Also they once forget things can be different in xenofiction.

I think another problem that contributes to the Tau slander is that the lion is a symbol of strenght. The King of the Jungle‚ all that thing. Is such an ideolized animal that people just get pissy when someone like Tau gets introduced. It also doesn't help that sensitive‚ anxious and shy male characters are seen as weak and not desirable which is totally stupid. I have watched a lot of comments insulting male characters like that‚ also complaining about why a strong girl would like that kind of male character even tho having a good heart should be enough. So between Tau being a lion and a shy male character‚ he gets double hate.

This is all kinda sad honestly.

Yo! I had to mention Hasani, he is such a cute character. I love him!

As for the whole realism stuff, I think people consider My Pride as "realistic" is mostly because of how brutal it can be if you ignore the advertising. Whenever fans defend the "realism", they mostly mention the infanticide and act like people can't question it's inclusion or think it doesn't make sense considering the circumstances and kind of ignore everything else. I seen this a lot with DetectiveCalico's review of the show as well as one of the shitposts of Proud killing the cubs while the lionesses shrug. Personally, I am not bothered by the fact that infantcide was included in the story in general ( and also I would be a massive fucking hypocrite if I did), but mostly on HOW it's presented in the story that bugs me more than anything.

I honestly don't care if things aren't 100% realistic ( I'm not 17 anymore) because let's face it, you HAVE to take liberties in order to tell a story. I try to get as much accurate behavior and information as I can in my comic because hyenas are some amazing creatures, but it's not gonna be 100% realistic because let's face it, a lot of shit that happens in Tofauti Sawa wouldn't happen in real life and I have kind of broken out of certain things over the years because I am not nearly as jaded as I used to be. Tofauti Sawa is actually the only story I want to do that operates like this. But I feel like if you are gonna have a completely fantasy story like My Pride that features things like actual goddesses, curses, and lion gods controlling the weather-the creator really should act like this is some grounded realistic story because it isn't but you have now bought attention to how the lions and their behavior is gonna be portrayed and people will most likely point it out when it's incorrect. I think this is pretty much why I tend to rag on The Lion Guard whenever it tries to be educational but would then get it's information incorrect. "Common Knowledge really." is so funny when Ono says something wrong. lol

(I had another whole ass example right here but decided to remove it because this post is getting too long.)

Though I must point out no matter what, people will often question things in universe or point out things related to the real life animal to how they are shown in fiction- it's pretty unavoidable but I don't think a majority of people are being malicious about it and treat it more like trivia than anything at least I hope. Like how Clownfish work in comparison to Finding Nemo for example. Some people will mention that while also being aware that there is no fucking way they are gonna put parent-child incest in this movie for the sake of "realism".

And honestly, I never really thought of Tau's species being a contributing factor to the whole thing other than the whole "role" aspect of it all. So that is another interesting way to look at it.

My School President Episode 5: Ah, youth...

This show gets better every episode. So full disclosure: I love love LOVE musicals, and I did not expect this to actually be a musical, so when it was essentially cemented this episode with the final number that this isn't musical-adjacent, this isn't musical-esque, this is TOTALLY an actual musical...besties I ascended. I am 150% in the tank for this show. This week, Chinzhilla (and everybody else) get a dose of reality and retreat to their individual corners to think long and hard about the future, and our secondary couples reveal themselves.

I said it last ep, but this show is really so much about the importance of working toward your dreams and having somebody in your corner while you do that. This week Chinzhilla's setback isn't caused by any external factor, but by reality invading their little bubble. Attending guidance counseling sessions serves as a harsh reminder that there is an 'after': after Hot Wave, after high school. Adulthood is lurking right around the corner, and with it the realities of earning a living. And while playing in a band with your friends is fun, the reality is for most of these kids it will never pay the rent, as much as they dream of it.

Gun as our protagonist carries the lion's share of the angst here, because he doesn't have a backup plan, this is his only dream, and if it doesn't work out the stakes are much higher for him than for any of the others. His mother insists it's not his job to take care of her, but he sees how hard she works, and how exhausted she is, and how despite all of that she supports his dream, and his guilt is palpable. He can't imagine taking so much from her and not being able, in the end, to give anything back.

Tinn is having his own moments of doubt, questioning whether his dream of being a doctor is really his own or if it's his mother's. In episode 3, when he told Gun he became school president to help people, that wasn't all bullshit. Tinn's love language is clearly acts of service, that shows in everything he does for Gun this ep, including dragging him out of bed and whipping his ass into shape. Helping Gun helps Tinn, it makes him surer that he can give people what they need. And when Gun stumbles, when he breaks down, Tinn knows exactly what he needs then too.

Tinn is falling deeper in love by the day, and as he and Gun get closer, he gets more and more confident. He was outright flirting this ep, teasing Gun, complimenting him, being his cheerleader and almost his agent in a way. Tinn sees Gun so clearly, he sees his potential, he sees his flaws, he sees his talent, and he sees his weaknesses, he sees when he needs to be praised and when he needs a swift kick in the pants. As long as he's had this crush on Gun, now things are different; he actually KNOWS him now, he knows what drives him, what hurts him, what keeps him up at night. This isn't just a crush anymore, Tinn's falling in love.

And Gun is starting to fall just as hard for Tinn. His breakdown in Tinn's arms and Tinn both comforting him and alerting his mother that he isn't okay touched the soft squishy parts of him. He feels good about Tinn, and Tinn essentially declaring his intention to be with him and checking that he's ok with that allows him to acknowledge and accept that he feels good about Tinn in a romantic way. I love the conversation/interview in the band room and then the follow-on conversation they have lying next to the pool, because Gun is (surprisingly!) shy about liking Tinn, and it allows Tinn to now take the lead in this back-and-forth between them. His gentle teasing and Gun's shy smiles and blushes are a cute reversal of their dynamic, and I can't wait to see how it continues to unfold.

Ad Libs

I was surprisingly touched by Win and Sound, I didn't expect that to be so serious. It makes sense that somebody as diligent as Sound would get under slacker Win's skin and force him to face the fears that keep him from trying as hard as he can to make his dreams happen. The surprising part was how gentle and supportive Sound was with Win and how Win saw and appreciated that. Give me more of these two.

Tiw and Por is an interesting one and a bit left field, but again it's that...not opposites thing, but complementary thing? We've seen that Tiw is the wind beneath Tinn's dating wings; he's confident, he's bold, he's matter of fact, he doesn't mince words or mix matters, and a dose of that was exactly what Por needed.

I loved loved LOVED the closing number, when Ms. Gim starts singing and then the band members join in one by one, leading to them actually performing the song in the band room...fantastic. It's so hard to put a musical on screen in the modern age and make it feel fresh and of the moment instead of some retro holdover, and this show is doing such a good job of it. And next week it looks like there's a big dance number, which is my crack, so bring it on!

Gun's little jealous moment with the girls flirting with Tinn at the cafe was fun.

I HAVE SO MANY FAVORITE SCENES HOW COULD I NOT??? But I'll present you with one that hit me different during my first read and that is Hisame's proposal to Kiki (the one where he actually succeeds). I wasn't even shipping them that much but man the scene was like🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯and I just couldn't help but go awwwwwwww for them💗💗

Sorry I only have the Chinese version with me but basically it's Shirayuki saying: "It would be nice if we get to see the new flower this winter^^." To me, this line symbolizes the very feeling AnS gives me: consistent hope and never-ending positivity in every corner of the simplest daily life.

Not exactly hating or disliking them but the science part in the phostyrias (is that right?) arc is a bit difficult to read for me, and I wouldn't mind if the perfume arc were a bit simpler and shorter. Just saying😜

I'm glad you asked cause I finally get to say this out but also a bit afraid cause it's gonna upset some fans. Just to be clear, I don't intend to throw shade on any ship or characters or people who enjoy them. I'm just sharing my pov👀.

So here it comes: I don't see how Mitsu and Kiki make a good romantic couple, and I don't understand how Kiki fell for Mitsu.

I mean at the very beginning of the story (when it was supposed to be a short series) it was apparent that Mitsu and Kiki were going to be a couple and I could tell that. As the story goes on, we see hints that Kiki has romantic interests in Mitsu. And since Kiki confessed her feeling to him it seems to have become canon that Kiki did/does love Mitsu, and I fully accept that. But still, despite all the hints and confessions, I just don't see when/why/how Kiki fell for him. (Not saying Mitsu is not good enough, just examining their relationship development.) As far as I'm concerned, Kiki takes Mitsu as her most trusted partner and cherished friend. She knows she has to marry someday and of course she'd be looking out for the right candidate. And Mitsu would certainly be her best choice in many ways. But that's it. I don't see how Kiki actually developed romantic feelings for Mitsu. Perhaps sensei just didn't elaborate on that, or perhaps I missed something, in that case please lecture me lol^^

Man I really wish we get to see more of Kazuki. It's illegal to waste that pretty baby face like that. I mean sensei couldn't you get him a job around Shirayuki? Like being an aide to Obi so that they can take shift to look out for Shirayuki's safety when Obi's away to help Zen or something??

And also I'd love to see more of Hisame's days at Sereg as well, like how he usually tries to be a pain in the ass every time the trio visits^^.

Haha this one's pure personal story. Two years ago I was binge watching shoujo anime/manga during summer vacation and AnS was one of them. But I only watched the anime back then. It was not until half a year later when I decided I needed some lighthearted mental relief that I thought of it again. So I rewatched the anime, and when I searched about it online I accidentally saw these amazing illustrations from the manga and got totally stunned by the style. Before that I was even criticizing how strange the anime art style is🤣, and the manga was a total surprise!

I'm gonna be so sad. On the one hand we won't get any more stories about these people that we love so much, and on the other hand I feel like the community will become much less active when the series ends😢. It's like our days will be gone😢.

Aside from the loads of questions I have about AnS, I'm genuinely interested in what influenced her most as an author/artist. I love the consistent positivity in almost all of her works and really wonder what works or things perhaps have influenced her in this regard. Or does this positivity just innately run in her blood? Lance felt like he was on cloud nine, his lips pressed against his formal rival. It was over as quick as it happened, Keith pulling away, his face matching the color on his armor.

"Don't you ever do that again." Keith looked him up and down, seeming to check him for any injuries.

"I will if it means you'll kiss me."

Keith rolled his eyes, "I can't kiss you if you're dead because you tried to sacrifice yourself for me."

"I tried to sacrifice myself for Voltron actually. Little self-centered there Keith," Lance poked his forehead.

Keith grabbed his wrist, "I like you too much to have you die on me."

Lance felt his face burn. The kiss should have been enough reason for him to realize Keith liked him back but hearing him say it made his knees weak.

Keith kissed him again, ignoring the rest of the team finally making their way into the Blue lion hanger. Lance kissed him back eagerly, trying to ignore the voice in the back of his head telling him he wasn't worth it.

He and Keith didn't immediately start dating, but they became joined at the hip. Their arguments died down into nothing, just slight bickering once in a while. You couldn't have one without the other. Everyone's bonds for Voltron became stronger. The team was running better than ever.

"You awake?" Keith whispered in the dark of the room.

Lance moved slightly, being mindful of the boy next to him, "yeah."

"Can't sleep?"

"You're the one to talk."

Keith chuckled in the dark, "I'm just lost in thought."

"What about?"

"How much I like this guy I know."

Lance smiled, more to himself than to the other boy. No matter how many times Keith implied his feelings towards him, he still found himself flustered. "What would you tell this mystery guy."

"That I like him a lot, and he makes me happy and I like being around him."

Lance felt the other boy's lips pressed against his cheek.

"And I was wondering if he would be interested in being my boyfriend."

Lance thought his heart was going to beat out of his chest; he wondered if Keith could hear it. His chest swam with a mix of emotions, tightening a bit as the feeling. He liked Keith, he liked him more than he could put into words. But he was just Lance. He was a nobody compared to Keith.

If they didn't end up in space together Keith wouldn't have known who he was, let alone have feelings for him. He knew he wasn't the best person for Keith.

"Did you fall asleep?" Keith's voice had a hint of disappointment to it.

"No, sorry just thinking."

"About what I asked?"

"Yeah...um." He couldn't faintly see Keith's outline in the dark.

"You don't have to say yes." Keith began to lean back to lie down.

"I didn't say no."

"So...?"

"Yes, I would love to be your boyfriend."

Keith propped himself back up, quickly finding Lance's lips. Lips kissed him back, trying to will his brain to shut up.

They had been dating for almost two months, and Lance was absolutely smitten with Keith in every way possible. Dating Keith was better than he could have ever imagined. Keith was soft when it was just the two of them. He was completely different than when they were with the team. He let his guard down, relaxed more, he whispered sweet things in his ears. Lance couldn't believe that Keith wanted to be with him. That Keith chose him.

The unfortunate part about being with Keith, someone who Shiro (y'know the best pilot in the Garrison) mentored, someone who was at the top of his class at the Garrison, someone who was good at everything he did; Lance couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't worthy of him.

Lance knew he had a place in Voltron but lately, he had been questioning his status as the right leg of Voltron. He just didn't feel like he contributing to the team in a valuable way. In a way that no one else could.

And sometimes, even when Lance just wanted to simply spend time with his boyfriend, his brain picked apart every reason why he wasn't enough for Keith. Why Keith should find someone better.

He kept his thoughts to himself, making sure he didn't worry his boyfriend or the team. He could push through these thoughts.

"Lance? You spaced out there."

He blinked at the voice, pulling himself out of the dissociative state he found himself in. "We are in space so."

"Ha good one Lance!" Hunk replied.

Shiro gave him a slight frown, "you okay?"

Lance nodded, "yeah sorry. Just lost in thought."

"Okay. We were just discussing the mission."

Lance looked up at the hologram, "looks good to me."

"Okay. Then this is the idea we're going with. Get some rest everyone." Shiro dismissed the team and everyone dispersed.

"You want to watch a movie?" Keith stood in front of his boyfriend, his arms crossed over his chest.

"Yeah...yeah a movie sounds good. You pick though." He stood from his chair, letting his boyfriend take his hand and drag him towards his bedroom.

"You're not even paying attention." Keith poked his cheek.

"I am, I swear."

"Who's Gazel?"

"....She's the main character?"

"No one in this movie is named Gazel. Something is on your mind. You can tell me."

Lance stared at his boyfriend, for a brief movement he thought about spilling his guts to him. Telling him all his insecurities. He opened his mouth, "I love you."

Keith's face fell into a surprised expression before he smiled, "I love you too."

Sleep began to escape from Lance. No matter how much he tried he found himself tossing and turning throughout the night. His anxiety would rip any peace he managed to hold in his grasp.

Which is how he found himself sitting on the observatory desk, a blanket wrapped around him. He watched the stars dance around in his vision, his eyes burning no matter how many times he blinked. All he wanted to do was sleep.

"Babe? What are you doing in here?"

He closed his eyes, he knew Keith would eventually stumble upon him. "Hey." He didn't even have the energy to turn and face him.

Keith softly walked over to him, sitting down next to him. "You weren't in bed."

"Couldn't sleep."

"You couldn't sleep the past couple of nights...or last couple of weeks."

Lance took a deep breath, "yeah."

"What's been on your mind?"

"Oh, stupid things. Nothing you need to worry about mullet."

"Lance...we've talked about you lying to me."

"It's not a lie."

"I don't think it's stupid."

"You don't even know what it is."

"True, but anything that bothers you is not stupid."

Lance pulled his knees closer to his chest, he knew this was a dumb argument to have with his boyfriend. "I just...I think... never mind let's just go back to bed."

"No, what were you going to say?" Keith leaned into his side slightly. "I won't be mad at whatever you have to say."

"Okay...I think you deserve better."

"What do you mean?" Keith's voice was hesitant as if he was thinking of the worst-case scenario of Lance's words.

"I think you deserve better. I don't think I'm good for you...or that I live up to what you need."

"What do you think I need?"

"Someone who can hold a candle to you. You're like...one of the best pilots in the word, you are a great swordsman, everything you do is just...good. And then I'm beside you just not contributing."

"You don't think you contribute?"

"Not really. You could have anyone in the world and you chose me? Something doesn't add up."

"I chose you because I love you."

"But if we didn't end up here," Lance gestured to the Castle, "you wouldn't know me. You wouldn't love me. I wouldn't exist to you."

Keith didn't respond for a couple of moments, his eyes scanning the stars. "You're right. I wouldn't know you. Or Hunk or Pidge. I would still be living in the shack, going crazy over the Blue lion. And I probably wouldn't be in a relationship either."

Lance didn't respond, he didn't know what to say. Keith wasn't wrong.

"I chose you Lance because I like you. You make me happy, you are someone I feel drawn to. And you're the team sharpshooter; you can come up with plans on the fly and hold the team together even if you don't realize it. Without you, we wouldn't be Voltron."

"I guess."

"Babe, look at me."

Lance turned his body to meet his boyfriend's eyes. Keith reached up and gently touched his cheek. "I love you. I love you more than I can put into words. You are everything I want and more. You amaze me every day and you will continue to amaze me. This anxiety is just anxiety. Not the truth."

"I'm worried you're going to find someone else." He closed his eyes, "someone better than me."

"Lance the only person I'm looking for is a witness for when we get married."

"I think that's for future Keith and Lance."

"And I'm excited for them to get to that point."

Lance leaned forward and connected their lips softly, this time he shushed his anxiety.

"I've gotta admit, I used to think I'd enjoy this a lot more."

Matt gives a grim laugh, wincing at the sharp pain that shoots up through his wrist and into his shoulder. Here's hoping that's not a lasting effect or else he's going to have a rough practice tomorrow.

Elena immediately pulls back, making him regret saying anything at all when he sees the look on her face. He knows the look well; he saw that same guilty expression the weeks just before they broke up. He didn't know but he did. At least then, her guilt made sense, though.

"Matt," she starts to say, shaking her head, "I'm so sorr-"

"Hey, hey, it was a joke," he tries to assure her. Instinct has him reaching out to rest a hand on the side of her neck because he knows...

He has to stop himself short, leaving his hand awkwardly between them for a second before he ultimately decides not to cross that line and drops it back to his side. He swallows the lump in his throat but it hasn't budged in about four years, why would it now?

Elena's face drops along with his hand and he feels he might as well have just ripped her heart out with his bare hands. Funny that, how it would be unforgivable if he hurt her like that. But not for them.

She rubs at her face as she turns away from him, dragging her fingers through her hair with a pained expression. "It wasn't supposed to be like this. None of this..."

Matt knows that. Elena knows that. Everyone in the universe knows that their lives were not supposed to end up like this. It has been the only thing he has thought every single morning when he wakes up and every night when he tries to sleep. Except he's not mad about it anymore. What's the point?

Heaving a deep sigh, he gives in this time to his instincts and wraps his arms around her. She leans into him without any hesitation, and so he holds her close to him.

"It's gonna be okay," he quietly promises her even though he doesn't know how that could ever possibly be true when any of the people in his life could kill him on a whim tomorrow and he'd be forgotten about in a week.

That thought stirs something bitter in him and it tries to climb his throat but he forces it back down as Elena turns her body in his arms and presses herself against him, hugging him tightly. She doesn't even fight his unreliable word because she wants it to be true just as much as he does.

He lands a kiss on the top of her head, allowing himself just this one thing. Just this one second where it's just them. No vampires, no werewolves, nothing. Just two people who know each other better than they know themselves at time and don't quite know how to untangle the mess they have made of each other and themselves in the process.

"Come on," he murmurs. "You need to finish feeding. You barely took any, you've gotta be starving."

"But it's hurting you."

"Then just... try a different way or something. Maybe it's because you're new to it. There's gotta be some kind of learning curve, right? Like swimming or football."

Elena lets out the smallest laugh at that. She raises her head to look up at him with a slight smile, then she sighs, glancing uncertainly at his neck. It still sends a cold shiver down his spine to be looked at like that. A bit like how he imagines lions look at deer.

But he knows, deep down, that he would allow himself to be caught if it meant ensuring Elena got to live another day. That's not new. He spent weeks after the first crash wishing he had driven her home instead, or that he hadn't convinced her to go to the party at all. He can't think about the other crash at all.

She gets him to tilt his head a few centimetres back, resting against the wall behind him. Her fingers brush the sensitive skin of his neck, resting at the base of his throat. Then she leans in and slowly sinks her teeth into the soft flesh.

It doesn't hurt. Well, there is a prickle of pain, but then it erupts into something warm and he's not sure it's pain at all anymore. He gasps softly when they get all the way beneath the surface. They're definitely there, he can feel them, but it's not obtrusive like it was before. They're just... there. In his neck.

Elena's hand slides up the other side of his neck to keep him still and stop herself from accidentally slipping either. His eyes flutter closed at the touch.

"That's... yeah, that's a lot better," he breathes out shakily.

A wave of disappointment actually washes over him when she pulls back. There's a trickle of his blood on her lip. His stomach turns inside out. Unfurling. He can't figure out if he's disturbed or...

"Was that enough?" he asks tightly, pressing a hand to the small wound on his neck.

She nods and quickly wipes her mouth, ducking her head as if to stop him from seeing like this. He tries again to swallow but it causes stars to pop up in front of his eyes. Elena gets him to sit down on the bench nearby. She keeps hold of his hand. If she can hear his racing heart (which she probably can), she doesn't say a thing about it.

susan and lucy's relationship: the lion the witch and the wardrobe - dawn treader

everyone say thank you to @mira-kyria for enabling me ONCE AGAIN

dw the peter and edmund analysis is finished (for now 👀) but now i'm on to talking about Susan and Lucy's relationship dynamic throughout the three movies!!

so Susan and Lucy have a VERY interesting dynamic. From the very beginning of both the books and the movies, they're portrayed as complete opposites, not only in appearance, but also in personality.

Susan is very realistic, logical, and goes along the lines of "seeing is believing". Meanwhile, Lucy is very imaginative, dreamy, and childish, and her whole storyline in "Prince Caspian" centers around "believing is seeing".

the very first time we meet Susan and Lucy, we already understand what their dynamic is. It's maternal, with Susan pulling Lucy out of the house and pulling her out of danger. This is something we see quite a bit of throughout the movies, the girls gravitating towards each other in times of distress.

We see it in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", with Susan accompanying Lucy to Aslan's death, we see it in "Prince Caspian", with Susan staying behind to protect Lucy from the Telmarines following her.

I do really love that we don't get a sense that Susan resents having to take care of Lucy. They obviously have a very, very close bond, and I like that, while Susan is one of Lucy's maternal figures, they're still sisters, like we see when they arrive in Narnia.

When Susan tells Professor Diggory that Lucy thinks she's found a magical land, the way she talks sounds more like she's concerned for Lucy. Which, understandable, because they've gone through a massive life change, so in Susan's mind, Lucy's just trying to cope.

But I love her face after Professor Diggory says "she's your sister, isn't she?", because Susan knows her sister (probably better than anyone), and again, Susan's the logical one. Yes, Lucy doesn't lie, but Susan really can't imagine that there really was a magical land in the wardrobe.

And when they do enter into Narnia, Susan drops the attempt at figuring out how everything works to join in on the snowball fight with Peter and Lucy, because she knows that's the best way to apologize to Lucy, and knows that her little sister understands.

and then, just like Peter, once Susan is in Narnia, she relaxes. Lucy's leading the way and knows what's safe, and though it's strange, Susan can take a step back and look at everything.

her face here is one of my favorite Susan moments:

and then there's Susan's reaction to Lucy falling out of her coat in the river, which absolutely breaks my heart.

Like Peter with his siblings, Susan's obviously specifically taken the responsibility of Lucy. It makes sense, and throughout the beginning of their time in Narnia, we see Lucy against Susan's side when she's not with Peter. She's the baby, so of course, Susan feels responsible for her.

the CUTEST Susan and Lucy moment 😭

because again, like Peter, Susan's probably had to step up since their father left, and, with her being the oldest girl, she probably has extra things that she's had to do. Like Peter and Edmund fixing their relationship, Susan and Lucy are learning how to be sisters together, playing with each other and just having fun.

their positioning in the tree here, when the wolves attack them, it's obvious that Susan helped Lucy to get up there first, made sure she was away from the ground, and Susan climbed up after her. Lucy was her priority throughout this entire moment.

i just think the two of them training together is so so cute and this shot is one of my favorites of them <3

Susan and Lucy being the ones to accompany Aslan to his death, the one with the strongest belief in Narnia and the one who has her mind set on returning home, it's just such a perfect choice

and then, in "Prince Caspian", their dynamic is still very similar!

this moment is such a sweet parallel to the river scene in TLtWtW, with Lucy not even having to say anything, and Susan immediately know what she's thinking. Like Peter and Edmund, they're back into a familiar dynamic, and they're able to act like kids again.

when Lucy says "maybe you didn't really want to" after Susan asks why she didn't see Aslan, and Susan saying "I had just gotten used to living in England", it really hints at Susan's future in the series. while i have my own opinions on her storyline (no longer a queen of narnia my ASS), i think it's a good hint that Susan's always been more attached to our world than to Narnia, compared to Lucy, who is obviously so much more at ease and at home, and who sees Aslan multiple times throughout the movie before their reunion near the end.

There's a few more silly moments (the "you might need to call me again?" line still makes me giggle, i love Lucy being the teasing little sister!)

and when Susan leaves her to protect her from the Telmarines, she's not afraid. Despite everything, Susan has faith that her sister is going to find Aslan, and that she's going to be safe, so she feels okay sending her on her own.

the two of them holding hands before going through the tree back to their world oh my GOD i'm sobbing

also i do really love that their dresses are similar, but Susan's is obviously more grown up. They've both got wide sleeves and floral motifs, and even though Lucy's is green while Susan's is blue, the shades match!

and finally, within Dawn Treader, i think Lucy's relationship with Susan is still very similar, despite us not seeing them together.

However, enough time has passed that Lucy isn't a little girl anymore. The movie ages are a bit off, but Georgie was fifteen when "Dawn Treader" was released, which was about the same age that Anna was when "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" was released, so the timing actually works!

We see Lucy being jealous of Susan because (1) she's together with their mother and father while Lucy and Edmund are stuck in England and (2) people still treat Lucy as a child, and not as the young woman she wants to be seen as. Lucy is stuck, she really has no where to go, she doesn't have a life outside of her aunt and uncle's house, so hearing about Susan meeting handsome men and going to exciting events is frustrating for her.

She even asks Edmund "do you think I look anything like Susan?" which shows that she really does look up to and admire her older sister, but in her eyes, she still looks like a child, and that's what drives her to use the spell to change her appearance.

also not really related but while rewatching "Dawn Treader" i noticed that beside one of the beds, there's a frame with a picture of Peter and Susan, and i'm absolutely not okay, Lucy and Edmund just want to be back with their siblings 😭😭😭

because, if you think about it, maybe five years have passed over the course of the end of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" to "Voyage of the Dawn Treader". The Pevensie siblings spent more time together than they ever did apart, so that probably is another reason why Lucy's so upset and off at the beginning of the movie.

and Lucy's interactions with Caspian... it feels more like a schoolgirl crush than anything else, but even if things don't go anywhere, she's once again being compared to Susan, though unknowingly, and that only adds to her frustrations.

then, in the house, when Lucy says the words to the spell, her face when she realizes that truly, deep down, she just wants to be Susan? She's horrified for a moment before taking the page with her. and i know that it's part of the mist, but I think it's an important point to include, because it shows that Lucy isn't just the innocent young girl we've seen throughout the movies, and she's starting to change as well.

(and the way Aslan says Lucy's name breaks my heart, he sounds so sad and disappointed in her)

"Don't run from who you are" is SUCH a perfect line to be said to Lucy, and her realization that, yeah, she may not look like Susan, but her role within her siblings' lives, her role within her own life, it's so much more than just her appearance?????????

AND THEN LUCY'S RELATIONSHIP WITH GAEL MIRRORING THE WAY SUSAN TOOK CARE OF LUCY IN TLTWTW?????

and the parallels!!!! between this scene!!! and Susan and Lucy's scene in "Prince Caspian"!!!!!

the colors are even the same, with Lucy in reddish-orange and Gael in purple!! and despite everything, Lucy's faith in Aslan never ceasing, and her reassuring Gael that everything will work out, and Aslan will help!!!

and this moment?? Gael's ten in "Dawn Treader", which is how old Movie!Lucy was in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". Lucy wants to be beautiful like Susan, but she doesn't realize that she's already so much like her older sister in literally every other way. Lucy and Gael's relationship mirrors Susan and Lucy's relationship so beautifully, and I'm so happy that Gael was added as a character!

honestly don't even get me started on Lucy and Edmund using Susan and Peter's weapons in their final battle in Narnia, because i WILL start crying (but ofc if people ask i will get started on that 😌)

so yeah, i love Susan and Lucy's relationship, and think that them being very much opposites in personality, logical vs. imaginative, grounded vs. dreamy, it works so well!

and like i said, i absolutely loathe Susan's ending in the books, and fully believe she should have either (1) died with the other three + gone to Aslan's country with them or (2) joined them in Aslan's country herself at the end. i think she's treated very unfairly, but overall, their relationship dynamic is something i absolutely adore!
