the annual national mensa gathering went down this week and i've been having some amazing fun you guys
some highlights:
booked a karaoke room for two hours with a couple others, then managed to (rather easily) convince 10 more random mensa members to come along right before we left! had a lot of fun singing with strangers
did the spiderman pointing meme when someone saw me and went "it's you!! the gossip girl trickster!!" and I, after my brain had loaded for a few seconds, exclaimed, "oh it's you!! the grumpy halfling!!" Apparently we played d&d together last year and she remembered my character better than I even remembered it myself, because she thought my character was hilariously annoying. (she came along to do karaoke, and we sang a duet together in-character. it was pretty awesome)
played a new session of d&d with the same group as last year + a few others, and somehow managed to cheat the system by making the monster laugh so hysterically that we inadvertently skipped ahead to the second phase pretty much immediately
ran into a guy who turned out to be my brother's best friend from high school and who's apparently been to my childhood home over 20 years ago (in an entirely different town many kilometers away)???
went to a masquerade and got to wear my hooded cape with a glittery mask and sequin dress!! and get photographed with many historical figures, superheroes and various others with creative costumes!!
played a session of blood on the clocktower that was so incredibly good and confusing that even the GM (who's done many a game) said it was the best session he'd ever done and he wished we'd live streamed it. it took four hours and we had barely any idea at all about which people were the bad guys until the last five minutes. I was killed the second round because people always think I'm evil for some reason, and they didn't believe that I was actually good until the game had literally ended (and barely even then lol). but i had GREAT fun anyway. though i was extremely shocked when we were done and four hours had passed and it was suddenly 3AM in the morning and i had missed not only the masquerade afterparty, but also an opportunity to get duct taped to the wall. (they duct taped someone else instead 😔) still very much worth it though.
went and bought one hundred cheeseburgers from mcdonald's with two friends at 4AM that we then went back with to the event hotel. few believed us when we said we were going to get 100 burgers, but the rumour spread quickly and we were greeted like war heroes when we returned. many mensa members creeped out of their various mouse holes to snack on burgers and sing together by the hotel's piano. a lot of people chipped in for the payment. many people have since talked about The Burgers like the highlight of their week. all very nice and wholesome. (also i think we made the night for the guys working the night shift at mcdonald's, one of whom giggled like a 4yo when we said "we wanted soft serve and figured, why not buy some burgers while we're at it")
there's probably a lot of other stuff i don't remember right now. but anyway, once again the annual gathering shows just how much of a Silly Nerd Community mensa really is

IT HAD BEEN A WHILE since you've met with your friends. after becoming so busy with balancing work and school, coming home tired every single day. even your boyfriend had noticed, but him being the sweet boy you've always known, he never complained about it. wonbin would engulf you into a hug once you came home, letting you fall asleep in his arms and rest up as much as you needed.
“are you sure you don't mind? we haven't had time for us, i don't want you to feel like i'm neglecting you.” you muttered, a small pout forming on your lips as you spoke to wonbin. your hand reaching up to his face and rubbing the pad of your thumb against his cheek.
the way wonbin looked at you never failed to set your heart on fire, his eyes stared at you with such awe. he smiled and leaned forward to place a kiss on the top of your head. “i promise, and it's not like i'm not coming with. i want you to have fun with your friends too.”
and to say the very least, you definitely did.
catching up with your friends made all the weight from the past semester that you carried fade away in a flash, laughing at stupid jokes and shared memories. but, you couldn't help noticing how wonbin grew quiet and reserved.
when he first met your friends, it was usual for him to keep to himself. but after a year of you two dating, his interactions with your friends grew natural over time. so you knew for a fact that it couldn't have been his timidness.
meanwhile, wonbin knew that he shouldn't have been so quiet. but he couldn't help it, all of his thoughts raced to your body. he knew he shouldn't have been staring for so long, but he couldn't help it.
you wore a darker colored shirt, one that hugged your body perfectly. specifically the way that it accentuated your breasts made him yearn for you. all he wanted to do was to wrap his mouth around your tits, his tongue to swirl around your nipple while his hand would play with your other breast. to suck gently onto the skin and mark them up with his kisses.
the images clouded his head but the last thing wonbin wanted was to cut your night out together short, just because he couldn't keep it in his pants. he'd been so good at keeping himself under control for the past few weeks, as much as his body craved you, he knew yours craved sleep. wonbin knows how hard you've been working lately, and he wouldn't let his needs get in the way of it.
except for right now, it felt much harder than before. it wasn't his fault that you looked incredibly beautiful, he knew you didn't dress up this way on purpose but he felt himself put the blame all on you.
the shirt dropped down to your round tits, leaving very little to the imagination and usually he would've been slightly upset to let you go out that way because he didn't like when others stared at what was his. but, he's around to keep them in check if anyone wants to try something anyways.
from dating wonbin for so long, you picked up on his tells. wonbin never vocalizes whenever he's needy, so you end up having to figure it out yourself. for example, the way he would avoid eye contact.
“do you want anything else?” you asked wonbin, looking over to meet his eyes only for the boy to shake his head without a word or a glimpse towards your direction. he raised the glass of water to his lips and took a drink instead. or the way he'd squirm around in his seat and readjust his clothing whenever he could. from time to time, you saw your boyfriend tug down on his pants, his bottom lip tucked between his teeth.
as much as you love teasing your boyfriend, you felt yourself grow just as needy as he was. the lack of sex in your lives due to busy schedules impacted you much more than you thought it would — which led to your current predicament.
wonbin's back landed on the bed, and you hovered over his body, lips encased with his. his hand quickly finding its way to your tits, cupping it in his hand with satisfaction. his tongue against yours as you deepened the kiss, your hand reaching down to unbutton his jeans. rubbing your hand against his covered cock, the boy whining in your mouth. “please..” he sighed, pulling away and looking up at you with wide eyes.
“please what, pretty?” you hummed, raising your brows at your needy boyfriend who gulped at the pet name.
“don't make me beg.” he cried, his hand tugging on your shirt. “just want you, in any way you'll have me.”
god, you thought, you couldn't even be mad at him.
quickly pulling his boxers and his jeans down to his ankles, you wrapped your hand around his cock. “pretty boy, so needy, hm?” wonbin nodded at your words, licking his lips as he watched you begin to jerk him off. he moaned at the sight, throwing his head back as your nails graced against his length in an up and down motion. finally receiving the touch he'd been aching for so badly.
your mouth watered at the sight of his cock in your hand. you bent down to his length, pressing your tongue flat against the tip of his cock while maintaining your focus on your boyfriend's facial expressions. lapping at the precum that gathered on the tip, his hips slightly thrusting up at the feeling. the way his brows furrowed and his grip on the bed sheets tightened. you couldn't help but feel pride grow inside of you from watching him, “look at me, baby,” you spoke, breaking wonbin's train of thought (or lack thereof).
you decided to give him a bit of a show, you had seen wonbin staring at your chest almost the entire time. you pressed a kiss on the side of his length, flashing a smile at wonbin before letting his cock drop to his stomach. you slowly took your shirt off, revealing your tits in a black bra with hot pink lacing. his breath hitched at the way your bra clung against your tits, almost begging to be freed.
you chuckled at his reaction, the sound of his breath caught up in his throat made you beam at him.
once you discarded your shirt, you took off your jeans, wonbin's eyes immediately landing onto the matching panties, a pink bow placed right in the middle.
leaning down, you noticed how his gaze fixated onto your tits. “take it off for me.” you told him, motioning towards your bra. wonbin's eyes glued onto yours, his hand reached towards your back, his skin brushing against yours and the feeling made him tingle.
the sight of your boobs releasing from your bra made his mouth open slightly, you laughed softly at his face. “you're so cute, 'bin.” he smiled shyly at your words, his fingers playing with the bud of your breast.
wrapping your hand around his cock and brushing your nipple against the head of his length, you felt his cock twitch in your hand and pride grew inside of you. you were just as needy to have him inside of you (but that would have to wait).
“oh, my love. you've been waiting for this, huh? been missing me all day.” you cooed, his head nodding at your words as you pressed kisses along the shaft of his length, dragging your tongue from the bottom of his cock to the top, humming at the taste of his precum. “my poor baby.”
wonbin whined at your words, his breathing becoming uneven at the way you were making him feel. he could feel all the blood rush to his dick and he felt himself seconds away from cumming. “i-i think.. i'm gonna cum.” he moaned, his legs twitching and his hips meeting your touch.
“cum for me, 'bin.” you nodded at his words, continuing the motion of jerking him off as his tip rubbed your sensitive nipples. ropes of cum shot against your chest, your mouth opening as bits of him cum landed on your lips. his moans growing louder at his release, his heavy lidded eyes watching as you licked the cum from your mouth and began wrapping your lips around his cock.
wonbin's cock seamlessly twitching in your mouth, his thighs tensing up at the overstimulation. his breaths turned into pants as he felt like another orgasm was about to be dragged out of him. “'s'too much.” he whimpered, his head lolling to the side at the feeling.
you grinned at his words, “you can take it.” you spoke, detaching your mouth from his length and your hand going under his shirt, your thumbs teasing his nipples. “you didn't forget about me, right 'bin? pretty baby already came, it's my turn now.”

————————————————
You sat there disappointed in your dry phone. It was like looking at a blank screen. The night was cold, dark, and quiet. Everything was different now that you cut off your toxic-ass best friend. Deleting all the pictures and videos of you two. All the happiness and laughter y’all had shared just for it to be ruined in a few hours. The incident only happened a few days ago.
You decide to scroll through your alt account’s Instagram feed hoping to see something interesting. Something interesting indeed popped up. A little green circle around your ex-best friend’s profile picture. “Curiosity killed the cat ya’know?”, It surely killed you as soon as you clicked it. She was with your Ex. Your face scrunched in disbelief. You couldn’t help but muster up a pitiful laugh. What was going through her goddamn mind? Did she know the alt belong to you? Was the random pinterest boy profile picture not convincing enough? You nearly tossed your phone to the ground you felt tears bubbling up in your eyes. You remember the whole thing like it was yesterday. The horrible things you said to each other. But one thing she said in particular stuck in your head. “You aren’t even together anymore! Why the fuck do you care Y/n?”, Those were the last words she said to you, the last words you needed to hear to leave her alone. It hurt you so much, the girl you known from middle school betrayed you.
It was late maybe around 11 pm. Your mind was filled with anger. You couldn’t stop thinking about it. You told her everything and she did the same. You two grew up together. When you introduced your boyfriend and best friend they hit it off. They were so cool with each other that it seemed like a dream come true. Having your best friend actually like your boyfriend was extremely rare to come by. Your dream came short-lived after you found them fucking in a bathroom at a party. It hurt so fucking bad. You clenched your shirt trying not to cry. That night broke you, you lost everything in 4 hours. All it took was a couple of shots and one blunt to have your whole world crash. In a fit of rage, you decided to go through her entire Instagram feed. Scrolling through every single post. In a recent post from earlier today, you saw a dump of her stepbrother. All of the pictures were silly, cute pictures of him. You couldn’t lie, he was fine as fuck. You saw her stepbrother a couple of times when y'all were younger, but god did puberty hit him good. He was tall and muscular with a sharp jawline. He has white hair and beautiful ocean-colored eyes. He had a couple of arm tattoos as well. You sat there trying to remember his name. You looked over the caption trying to find something leading to him, the caption read: “HAPPY 19th BIRTHDAY @satoruxgxjo! I hope 19 treats you good lil, bro :).” That was his name! You finally remembered him. Satoru gojo, it was definitely moan-able. You DM’D him almost immediately.
(Y/n): “Hey! I saw your birthday was earlier and I wanted to wish you a happy 19th birthday!” You didn’t know what you expected him to say back to that. You didn’t know if you wanted him to immediately block you or text you back. Maybe if he blocked you would be able to move on and heal. But all you wanted was revenge. After two minutes you got a notification from Instagram. (satoruxgxjo): “Yo, I appreciate it. it’s been a minute. How have you been?” A smug smile arose on your face. You instantly texted him back. (Y/n): “I’ve been amazing. Recently I had just got some za from a friend and since it’s your birthday maybe we can roll up?” You watch as your text goes from Sent to Seen. Your heart immediately went faster.(satoruxgxjo): “Lmao? That was quick but sure. I don’t mind. Addy?” Your face was sinister. If he could see your face right here probably think twice about his current decision. You sent him your location, (Y/n): “I mean it’s not like we don’t know each other Saturo, just pull up :) We can catch up!”, You were so happy that this was gonna work out perfectly. (satoruxgxjo): “Who is Saturo? It’s Satoru* n I’m otw.” That happiness quickly faded into embarrassment. How could you forget his name already? You repeated it 10x to remember it, while repeating his name you quickly got up and rushed upstairs.
You dressed yourself in a loose shirt that hung off your shoulders, your chest was the only thing holding it up. Underneath you made sure to treat your guests to an easy reveal no bra and pink Victoria's Secret lace panties. Your hair was messy letting little strands of hair frame your face. You rushed downstairs to set everything up, you grabbed an open bottle of Hennessy and accompanied it with a jar of bud including a pack of Raw’s. Everything was set for the most part. You dimmed the lights and played some sensual music. You turned your TV on to some random Netflix show to make it seem casual. You soon turned your attention to the door as the doorbell rang. A wicked smile placed on your face, your hips swaying to the music. You opened the door and smiled at your victim—I mean visitor. “Heyy~.” Your voice filled with a welcoming tone. Luring him in like a fisherman. “Hey, Y/n.” He had a basic white shirt on, and his muscular body filled it out nicely. His lower half was hidden behind grey sweatpants, He had on white cross that were no longer white. His tall frame continued to tower over you. He sounded so nonchalant, but his blue eyes told a different story. He couldn’t stop looking at your bare shoulders. “Come in hun.” You moved out of his way and motioned him to the couch. The table caught his attention immediately. You made your way to the kitchen swaying to the beat of the music. “Henny? Whatcha got this for?” He picked up the bottle with an eager smile. “Why else Satoru?” You winked at him. Watching him open the bottle and pour himself a shot. “Well, Hopefully, it’s not for little ole me. God, you wouldn’t make such a silly mistake and give an underage boy Hennessy? Right?” He asked mocking you. A smug expression on his face. You couldn’t wait to wipe it off. “Oh of course not! I would never do such a disgraceful thing. But..I won’t tell if you won’t.” He threw his head back and he gulped down the shot of liquor. The burning sensation only made him crave it more. “You know I don’t kiss and tell.” He chuckled as he watched you sit down on the couch. He soon followed you and plopped down beside you. “You ever rolled before?” You looked at him as you picked up the grinder. “Nah, I’m more of a pipe or hookah person. Ya’know?” You giggled at him. He was falling into your trap without even knowing. “Lemme show you how to roll then.”. You took him through the basic steps. Letting your hands guide his. After a few attempts, he was able to get a good enough roll for a beginner. “And now ya gotta lick it.” You bent over his lap using his muscular arm to hold yourself up. You dragged your tongue over the paper making sure to seal it. You took the joint from him and began to light it. His eyes watched you dangerously. After a couple of pulls, you handed it back over to him. He pulled a heavy hit making him cough. You poured another shot for the both of you. Handing him a glass of liquor. “Oh? Is that for me? How kind.” Your hand sat between his thighs. “Of course.” He took the glass and knocked it back, and you followed his lead.
You weren’t slightly drunk nor were you high. But you couldn’t say the same for Satoru. He almost finished your bottle of Hennessy. His head was between your neck and shoulder. He was mumbling incoherent nonsense, you didn’t particularly care what he was babbling about. He was lying between your legs using your chest to keep him propped up. His hands rubbing your thigh, “Mm..please.” He mumbled desperately. “I told you not to drink too much Gojo. Now look at you.” You laughed as you rubbed his head. “.. I know. m’ sorry. Please y/n. Please.” You were confused you didn’t know what he was asking for to be quite frank. “You should get an Uber to take you home.” You nudged him to get off of you. He didn’t budge at all. His eyes looked up at you pleading with you. “I don’t wanna go. I wanna stay with you. lemme stay.” He was so whiny while he was drunk it was pissing you off. “Okay, you can stay.” He hummed softly in response. “upstairs?” You whispered in his ear, he nodded his head. You moved off the couch pulling him off with you. You walked him up the stairs to your bedroom. He was stumbling up the stairs you had to hold him up. Making it to your room in one piece was the hardest part. Opening the door his hands never left your body, If anything they became more needy. His fingers roamed around your back as he began to tug at your shirt.
You grabbed his hands telling him to stop. “I don’t know...if we should do this...I’m sure your sister wouldn’t like this.” You smiled as you pushed him on the bed. Of course, she wouldn’t like her brother sleeping with her ex-best friend. But that made it more exhilarating. Satoru groaned at your words. Bringing up what you and his sister had going on at a time like this was a low blow. “Don’t fuck with me Y/n. You’ve been touching me all night. Saying little shit to me. I’m ready now, and you’re gonna act like this?” You heard the frustration in his voice, looking down at his gray sweats pants you saw what else was frustrated. You laughed at him. “Oh look who’s mad at me. I’m just trying to respect you and your sister's relationship.” Your hands go under his shirt and rub his abs. He laughed as his arm covered his face. “Ah, so I understand why she called you a conniving bitch now.” Your smug face was quickly wiped with confusion. “Oh…Yeah? She gonna think I’m more than conniving after this.” You grabbed him by his hair pulling him closer. Your lips clashed against his, you could taste the intoxication on his tongue. The kiss became sloppy fairly quickly. His hands continued to roam over your back. He followed your lead not allowing your mouth to leave his. He yanked at your shirt, he wanted to pull it off of you. Sitting on his lap, you took off your shirt and tossed it to the side. His hands went up to cup your breasts. His fingers ran over your hardened nipples, his expression was darkened with lust. “So fckin pretty.” He sat up leaving kisses on your neck and chest. You assisted him in taking off his shirt and tossed it over to yours. Leaving kisses on his neck and slowly moving downward to his chest. Taking your precious time with him. He was so impatient, whining if you didn’t kiss him. You used your finger to trace his v-line teasing him enough to push him. You got up and slowly removed his sweatpants leaving him in his tight boxers. Licking your lips at the sight, it was a delectable sight indeed. Tracing the bulging print through his Ethikas. “Oh my god…” You stuttered in disbelief, this man was packing. Satoru felt you tugging his boxers, he lifted his hips and allowed you to yank them off of him. The cold air hit him drawing out a long sigh. Those blue eyes watching you with a dangerous glint, those eyes screaming out for you. “don’t play with me Y/n.” He whispered, almost as if he was begging you to make him feel something. You seated yourself between his thighs, looking at him with awe. Your hands running up and down his hardened dick. You gave him kitten licks on his tip, licking away any pre-cum. He growled at the teasing, “C'mon.” his hand caressingyour cheeks. You smiled as you quickly put your mouth around the tip and bobbed your head up and down.
His tip hits the back of your throat every time. Satoru’s hand pushed your head down so he could feel you deep-throat him, “Fuuucckk, just like that.” You pulled your head back with an angry expression. “Nobody likes a head pusher.”, You glared at him. “Nobody likes a fucking teaser.” He mumbled. You laughed at his audacity as if he was the one in control. You slipped off your underwear and climbed on top of him. Letting him slide in slowly, inch by inch. You threw your head backward, rolling your neck. Low moans escaped your mouth as you felt his hips grinning against yours. “Go faster.” His tone completely shifted from whiny and desperate to frustration. He wanted more, He needed more. It wasn’t enough for him. You looked so pretty going up and down on him. His eyes watched your body lift itself off of him and right back down. Your nails dug holes in his chest, “That fuckin’ hurts Y/n.” He gave you a sadistic smile as he dug his nails into your hips. You shrieked in pain. You could quite literally feel his nails penetrate your skin. That didn’t stop you though, you couldn’t care less about anything other than cumming. Your mind became foggy and filled with a certain haze. “Mm. Keep going. Dnt stop.”, Those words left Satoru’s mouth, his thrusts were sloppy and no longer had rhythm. His fingers found their way to your clit and played with you to make sure you came before him. Your moans filled the room as you were so close. You stopped as you finally reached the bliss you been begging for, panting heavily trying to regain the breath you once had. The feeling of warm liquid filling you was a slap in the face. You soon realized you didn’t use protection. You looked down at Satoru whose eyes were closed with a smile of his face. “Oops, m’sorry i’ll get you a Plan B in the morning.” His hand gripped your ass while you sat there in disbelief. How could you fuck up this bad? You smiled as you seen him cover his face once again, “Don’t worry about it. I have some in the bathroom.”. You got off of him and made your way to the bathroom.
When you came back you saw sleeping Satoru, under your sheets wrapped around your blanket. It was a cute sight to see him so vulnerable, you were about to fuck up his life. You crawled into bed next to him, cuddling him. He turned around and placed his head between your breast, his arm wrapped around your lower back pulling you close. You took out your phone and took a couple of pictures. This bitch was gonna know “Fuck my man, I fuck your brother.”. You unblocked her number to send her a little treat. “When Satoru comes home tomorrow tell him I had a wonderful time. (3 attachments sent).”.
You turned off your phone and cuddled the sleeping boy, kissing his forehead and cheeks. “Mm, she's gonna fuck you up when you get home.” You whispered in his ear. His phone was soon blowing up, From his mom and sister. “I don't care, you don't know how long I've been waiting to fuck you.” He muttered under his breath. You laughed, He wasn’t going anywhere. Not just yet.

⠀☆⠀00:12 AM
wow. that was—great. i had a good time, and i hope you did too. i think your phone’s dead, because you were all over chenle asking to borrow his, so maybe you’ll only hear this in the morning.  [he laughs]  i hope the hangover isn’t too awful tomorrow. my hip doesn’t hurt too bad from whacking it on that counter, in case you were wondering. i didn’t know you were gonna lift me like that, that was crazy! mark gave me a weird look when i came back to the others, but he always looks like that after a few shots—like he’s just sucked on a lemon. anyway, goodnight. get back to me soon, yeah? maybe we could do that again—it doesn’t have to be serious, no labels or anything. just a bit of fun between friends.
⠀☆⠀11:35 PM
[whispering]  my phone’s the one nearly dead this time. eight percent, so i gotta make it quick. tonight was.. really nice. thanks again. the takeout was really cool of you too, and i’ll pay you back when i get in. i’m talking so quiet ‘cause im in an uber, and i think i just saw the driver giving me a dirty look through the mirror. he has his own playlist on—i mean, unless there’s a new radio station called ‘on the grind’ with two fire emojis and, like, the one of the arm flexing? it’s all been pretty bad stuff so far, but there was this one song, and—it kinda reminded me of you, a bit.  [a pause, before he brushes over it]  i tried to shazam it because i’d look weird leaning over the console to see what it was called, but it was over by then. bummer! we’re coming up on my street now, though, and i’m on three percent now, so i’ll go. see you soon?
⠀☆⠀09:47 PM
injunnie asked me about that mark you left. i made up something about my kitchen cabinet door, but i know he didn’t really believe me. he had that look in his eye, you know? that one where it feels like he sees right through you. anyway.. maybe we should keep them somewhere less noticeable next time? we’re not—you know.
i’m going out with mark and chenle tonight. they’re doing a two-for-one on cocktails and there’s karaoke, so i think it’ll be fun. i probably won’t see it ‘til tomorrow, but call back when you hear this.  [he laughs]  or if i am still up and drunk when you call then you can sing me a lullaby, yeah?  [an awkward pause]  uh. i’ll just—talk to you later.
⠀☆⠀10:26 AM
[hesitant]  oh my god. i didn’t—sorry. i should’ve told you i had someone over. i completely forgot about the brunch thing, it’s my fault. kind of a dick move, too, i really am sorry. i don’t know how to.. i’ll buy you dinner, or something. to make it up to you.
[a prolonged pause]
[haltingly]  that—that was just a one-time thing, though. just.. just in case you were wondering. it won’t happen again.
[another pause, and the sound of him shifting in his place]
so, um. yeah. i just wanted to apologise, ‘cause you were gone before i could get the chance. call me when you hear this? if you want to, that is.
⠀☆⠀00:03 AM
i guess.. i guess you’re busy, or something. sorry. i know it’s late. you’re probably asleep. or working? renjun told me you’re on night shifts now.. did it slip your mind with me? or maybe you’ve told me already, i don’t know. i think my memory’s been getting worse lately.  [a scoffed laugh]  fuck, maybe you’re with—you know. someone else? that’d be fine, obviously, i know we’re not.. yeah. hell, i was the one who said we weren’t gonna be exclusive.
[a pause]
i haven’t been, um. seeing anyone else, though. not since that last time. it’s just you. but if you were, then.. anyway. i heard jeno tell you his friend was single the other day. that jaemin guy? and that restaurant downtown would be nice for a night out, tonight. they do that salad you like, and—and the side dishes.
[a second pause. he takes a breath in]
i think.. i think i need a drink. text me once you listen to this?
⠀☆⠀11:58 PM
[sounding a little breathless]  hi! i think im going to fill your inbox up at this point. maybe the reception’s bad in the taxi. but anyway—i had fun tonight. again. i.. i missed you, you know?  [a giggle]  wow, i think i feel a little light-headed. in a good way, obviously. i almost forgot what it was like with you. oh! and the actual reason i called—you left your hoodie here. better come grab it soon, or i’ll have it for myself. you can never have too many clothes.  [he stops for a moment]  does that sound too.. ah, nevermind. i hope you get home alright. talk to you tomorrow, baby.
⠀☆⠀10:49 PM
renjun asked me what we were doing. i knew he probably knew—or at least, like, had an idea of what was going on—but it still surprised me. nearly choked on my drink when he sprung it on me out of nowhere. i thought he just wanted to get lunch. i told him the truth—that we’re just.. messing around. he’s not gonna tell any of the others, so don’t worry. he thought—  [a stilted laugh]  he thought that we were together. but.. well. we’re not, obviously.
[a pause. he mumbles something to himself, cuts himself off, then tries again]
did jeno give you jaemin’s number? he had that gross grin on his face the other night, that same one he did when he kept trying to set chenle up on a blind date. and you never did tell me if you were out with him the other night. not that it, like, matters. but still.
[a second, longer pause]
anyway. i think i’m gonna go to bed. can we get dinner soon? i’ll pay.
⠀☆⠀11:18 PM
hey.  [a small pause]  i don’t know why i’m calling, really. i’m just at my apartment. watching reruns and drinking through that wine chenle gave me—which is awful, by the way. i think he was just trying to get it out of his fridge by offloading it onto me.
that movie you told me you watched all the time back in uni was on earlier. i would’ve called then, but my phone was dead, so i kept it on. it was pretty good, actually. kinda.. sappy. but in a good way. romantic, i don’t know. romcoms have never really been my thing, but i know they’re yours, so.. yeah.  [a tired laugh, and a pause. the tv is faintly audible in the background]  i didn’t know i could get wine tipsy this early. maybe that’s why i called out of the blue? ah, i don’t know. i’ll go now, though—this episode’s just starting to get interesting. let’s talk later.
⠀☆⠀01:21 AM
[he’s yelling, almost, struggling to be heard over the beat of the song blasting through the speakers]  yah, why did you dip? i was—i was looking forward to tonight, you know. jeno is boring, and mark is a lightweight, and jisung steps on my feet when we dance. it would’ve been way better with you here. and i miss you, baby. they need to fire the DJ here, because they’re seriously awful. i might just ditch the rest and come find you instead.
[he stops, considering it]
actually.. yeah. you won’t mind, will you? yah, pick up, c’mon. call me back, ‘cause i’m on my way to your apartment. i’ll buy a bottle of malibu on the way so it won’t taste as awful when we throw it up later, and you can set up that speaker chenle got you last year, because i know you probably still have it stuffed in a closet somewhere.  [his voice returns to normal volume, and the music is abruptly significantly quieter]  get your dancing shoes on, baby. and.. take your shirt off?  [he giggles, and his laughter interrupts his goodbye]  i’ll be there soon!
⠀☆⠀02:17 AM
fuck. can’t you just—can you pick up? please? i need it, i need you to hear this. i feel like i’m going insane, it’s fucked up.  [a pause, and a slightly shaky breath]  why did i say that? why did i say no labels? fucking.. fucking mark and shots and that bruise from that fucking counter. i’ve drank too much, and i hope i forget i’ve said this in the morning, but i—i need to know. it’s just you for me. that time with that guy was stupid, and i should’ve kicked him out as soon as i woke up, but i knew about brunch and i knew you’d be coming over and i was feeling petty so i just thought.. i thought you’d get jealous, i don’t know. it was stupid. i’m sorry for lying, baby. i didn’t mean to. is it—is it just me for you too? did you save jaemin’s number? did you text him? please tell me you didn’t. he doesn’t know anything about you, not like i do. i still have your hoodie, and renjun thinks i need to get my shit together, and chenle nearly threw up on my shoes on the way out the bar, and i just.. i want you. i want you so bad, it’s killing me.
[a long pause. his mumbling is inaudible]
call me back when you hear this.

MASTERLIST
Today is a longer day than usual, and it's taking me a lot of work to keep up with the rhythm of the pub. I don't understand what's the big deal today, but here I am, serving drinks non-stop ever since I got here. And I'm all by myself, because Mike was unable to come today. When I first told him not to worry about his absence, it was 6 pm and there were only three people. But now... Now I want to split my head open.
—Hey, beautiful. Rum and coke —a middle aged man limits to say, almost dropping his empty glass on the counter.
I take it away from his hands, before he drops it again and breaks it, and I put it inside the dishwasher. When I turn around with a new glass, and face the tall bald man in front of me, I see him licking his thin lips, looking at me upside down -at least, what the bar allows him to see.
—Any plans for tonight? —the suggestive tone on his question almost makes me laugh.
—Not with you —I reply, keeping my eyes on the rum bottle.
Actually, that plan only involves me and my bed. No one else. But this dude doesn't need to know.
—Oh, c'mon —he insists—. Don't play hard to get. You've been looking at me all night.
And that's in fact true. He's been loud and annoying ever since he and his group of friends got here. I've been looking at him, but so did the rest of the customers that wanted to enjoy the night.
I'm about to use the most hurtful comment that could slip anyone's mind, but a male voice starts speaking just when I take the first breath before I start speaking.
—May I have a beer?
First thing I notice is the crown tattooed on one of his fingers, and my eyes travel across his tattooed arms until they reach his eyes.
For the first time in my life, I'm happy to see Jungkook.
I'm not sure if it's the look he gives to the other man, his attitude or the way he looks at me -as if I were something his. But the middle aged man ends up taking his drink and walking back to his seat, with the rest of his friends.
—You didn't have to do it —I serve him his beer.
—Do what? —he frowns— I only asked for a beer.
—Your puffed chest says otherwise —I point to it.
He tilts his head while smiling, going back to his natural position and allowing himself to relax on the stool. The gray t-shirt falls over his body, hiding his muscles under it again.
—He isn't the first one —I assure him—, and he won't be the last. There are, at least, four assholes like him every night —I look at my invisible clock—. Actually, this is the time they start showing up —I support myself on the counter—. You told me you wouldn't come.
—The customer canceled at the last minute —he sips on his jar—. Have you done what I told you?
I squint my eyes, looking around me. And yes, I've been watching everybody more than I should, ever since I got his text this morning as a reminder. Although, there hasn't been anything interesting going on. And even if something interesting did happen, I couldn't pay attention to it because of how busy I've been ever since I arrived. I saw a few men trying to shoot their shots with different women, but I was unable to keep up with what they were doing, since the second I laid my eyes on someone, a customer was demanding my attention.
We barely saw each other ever since we started this deal -well, barely? We haven't seen each other at all. The only thing I've been doing is watching people, especially girls. It kind of seems like I'm doing research work to write my thesis. And I feel like, at any point, someone will hand me a complaint form for acting like a stalker.
My eyes go back to Jungkook, he's waiting for my answer. I simply nod, and get closer to where he's sitting, both of my elbows resting on the counter while my upper body weight falls on them.
—Will you make me watch people as if I were Kevin Carter(1)? —I raise an eyebrow— I thought you were going to help me.
—You didn't see anything that could be of help? —he mirrors me, raising one of his eyebrows— Examples of what you should do and what you shouldn't do. Some dudes' expression when they want to run away from a girl?
And yeah. I've seen some examples to all of that, since the very first day I started watching everyone as he asked. I've seen guys throwing themselves at girls -sometimes literally-, desperate to keep the girls' interest whatever it took; and I saw guys looking around them, searching for a fast way out when they weren't into the girl they threw themselves over.
Jungkook turns on his stool, so he can look behind him, and just a few seconds later, he turns back to me to get my attention. He slyly points to one of the couples, on one of the corners of the pub. My eyes are set on them while he speaks. And I can't help but recognize the uncomfortable smile the guy is giving her. Yikes, it's similar to the one Seokwoo gave me the other day.
—She is you.
Pfff I wish. That tight velvet dress would only look that good in my body in my dreams.
—She's nervous —he talks, trying to drag my focus back to where it should be—, and she's talking way too much. She's desperate to keep the conversation going, and he's thinking about running away at the minimum chance he gets.
While the brunette insists on getting closer, the blond male looks at her, takes a sip of his drink and looks around him fast. And he repeats the same cycle a few more times until he's finally able to walk away.
—We're simple —my eyes go back to him—. We don't want to know everything about you the moment we meet —he sips on his drink—. And the male nature is... primitive. We like to believe we're in control of the whole thing, even if it's not true. A girl that speaks too much and leads the conversation? She's out 99% of the time. She reeks of desperation.
—What about the other 1%?
—She's an eleven out of ten, the dude is way too drunk, the dude is even more desperate than her —he starts raising his fingers while counting.
—That's offensive.
—You started your words vomit with my cousin. You didn't seem desperate, but you seemed nervous and insecure. And you proved it even more when you ran away right after. Result? You ended up upstairs alone.
He takes another sip before he continues.
—We are assholes. And we want what we think it's difficult to get —he shrugs—. If you play hard to get, keep stuff to yourself, tease a bit, and act unpredictable... any man will be after you. Whether it's on Tinder, a friend of a friend, or even that guy that's almost going to pass out over there —he points with his head to a long haired guy almost falling from the edge of the counter.
—Ohh so you're into girls like that? —that's the only conclusion I get from all of that.
—Yup —he looks at me, tilting his head—. That's why I like you.
I roll my eyes after he says that, and I step back from the counter just to get back to work, in the same position I was before he came here.
✸ ✸ ✸
Even if he doesn't have to, he helps me to pick up some empty glasses left on some tables, while I close the glass door and turn off the big sign with the name of the pub. I still think about those two drunk men that left five minutes ago, and I wonder how they'll manage to go back home. I guess it'll remain a mystery.
—You can go —I tell him, as I walk to where he's standing—. Thank you for the lesson.
—I'll take you home —behind the counter, he's still placing the glasses inside the dishwasher.
—It's alright.
—I said I'll take you home —he insists, without looking at me.
We remain silent. The music and the TV have been turned off long ago, so only the ting sound coming from whatever Jungkook is doing is filling the place right now. Which is in big contrast with the fuss that was going on just half an hour ago, and that's the only reason why my head hurts so much right now.
I set the alarm as soon as I think everything is done, and close the door with my key before I turn to Jungkook, who's waiting on my left.
Not so far, I see his motorbike placed the same way it was placed the first night we met. Hopping on it this time feels different. Basically, because Jungkook is not a stranger anymore, and because I got on it thinking of teasing him.
He waits, and expects me to wrap my arms around him. But while his eyes are set on me, I move my hands to the back and hold myself on the metallic handles on both sides of my seat.
He smirks at my attitude, taking back his sight to the front before he swings his leg and closes the motorbike stand.
—It's up to you —he simply says.
And before I can process it, the engine roars and we're back on the road.
I'm surprised by how long I'm staying in this position without moving an inch. It only lasted two minutes though. Jungkook turns abruptly, taking me by surprise. My heart skips a hard beat, and I scream in consequence at the same time my arms wrap tight around his torso. His laugh sends vibrations through my body when he feels me holding close onto him.
My grip loosens the closer we get to my building. He stops the engine, and I feel it's finally time to move away -but I don't really want to. His black eyes connect with mine over his shoulder, and I'm sure he's just waiting for me to hop off the motorbike so he can go back home. But nope.
As soon as I step next to it, he drops the question:
—Can I go up to your place?

Date: May 16, 2022
The police were much more cooperative the next day, as bizarre as that sounds. I don’t know who or what made them change their minds, but I’m grateful for them for allowing me to glance at the original copies of Vigilante reports that weren’t already in my files. After handing off four full boxes of reports, they left me to my own devices alone in a briefing room but not before glancing back at me and laughing at the foolish reporter with an interest in their serial killer hero. Their laughs don’t bother me. It’s their unprofessionalism that does.
The longer I looked into the reports, the more disturbed I was by this Vigilante character. Again, there were mixed opinions on the guy; some thought he was a hero. Others....not so much. Many of the stories were reports written by the police themselves describing the scene. I won’t go into specifics, but they go into great detail of the crime scene. Like very great detail. It was gory. It was disturbing. And from a reader’s perspective it feels like Vigilante was having fun with one particular victim (a drug dealer by the name of Vance Teemer). The way it was described reminded me a lot like how a cat plays with its prey before it eats it, as disturbing as it sounds. It made me stop reading and sit back in my chair to think about the man under the mask. Was it even a man? Or was it a monster? I don’t even know who Vigilante is. Who is he? Might even be a she. I have no way of knowing. But whoever it was seems to be having a hell of a time taking down criminals under the guise of the actions of a hero. Most heroes have a no kill code. This one clearly doesn’t.
After taking some stealthy photos of the files, I thanked the officers for their time and headed back out to my car. I knew they were watching me the entire time but that didn’t bother me. They were probably all still wondering why on earth did a reporter from the highly esteemed Daily Planet was interested in a small town killer. And truth be told, I still wondered that myself. Why was I even interested in the first place? Why am I even here? Was this just an excuse to escape my busy Metropolis life to come back to my quiet small hometown? My therapist would say yes it absolutely was. This whole endeavor was a lot less stressful than the constant hustle and bustle of the Planet, as odd as that sounds. You’d think hunting down a serial killer would be a lot more stressful but so far, I feel fine. Other than the fact that I feel like I’m being followed and watched lately, everything feels normal. I don’t think the Vigilante would hurt me because I’m investigating him. It’s not a crime to be curious. But maybe he doesn’t want someone looking into him and might end up taking me out (and not in the nice way either). Who knows at this point.
Non serious note: there’s been a weird van going around town the last couple of days. It was parked outside the grocery store when I went inside to grab a few things. On my way out, I stopped to look it over to see if I recognize the company but I didn’t. Some electrical company or another. I never saw the name around before. Or at least it didn’t sound familiar. As I was turning around to head back to my car, I accidentally smacked face first into this very tall man with an odd colored beard. He grumbled an apology before climbing into the driver’s seat of the van, starting it up and pulling out of the parking lot. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the van in the future.
It’s now currently 11:27 pm as I’m writing this. I managed to print out all the photos of the files from the police station as I was cooking a very late dinner. As I was eating, I stood by my loft window and watched the traffic driving past outside. Main street was busy for a Monday night, the usual bargoers probably getting their Monday night drinks in before another boring workday in the morning. While they were out drinking their woes away, I was creating one of those connections boards you see on cop shows; the one with the red thread connecting evidence to evidence on a corkboard. Except mine didn’t really lead anywhere. It was just a board of nonsense at the moment. Newspaper clippings, photos taken from bystanders and online forum posts talking about Vigilante. Nothing was really connected thus far but this felt like a much easier way to look at some of the evidence I had without combing through various papers and folders to find what I was looking for.
Note: everything after this paragraph was written after 2 am. I received a call from my contact saying that Senator Royland Goff was assassinated in his home along with his wife and two kids and that I might want to check it out. So that’s exactly what I did.
I arrived on the scene just a little after 2. The place was already crawling with police, Detective Song leading the investigation. She saw me on the other side of the crime scene tape and rolled her eyes, proceeding to ask me why I was there. I reminded her that I was investigating Vigilante and wanted to know if he was involved in any of this. She then tells me that this is an active crime scene and they don’t have any answers for me right now. Which was fair. No one else knew about this other than the police, the person who reported the murder and now me. There were no other reporters here and considering Goff was a U.S. Senator, it was surprising to me that no one from the Evergreen Gazette was here to scoop up the story. By the time morning comes around, the whole country will know that Royland Goff was dead.
I was escorted off the premises by another officer back to my car. I only pretended to drive away but quickly pulled over to a well covered spot in the trees and went to do some snooping. I didn’t dare turn on my flashlight in case they saw me through the branches so I carefully made my way around the forest, looking for anything that might connect my famous Vigilante to the murder. What I did find though, was pretty odd and was clearly untouched by the police.
It was a gazebo of sorts, about 50 yards from the front of Goff’s family home. Next to the gazebo were remains of what looked like the murder weapon as well as their hideout spot. They seemed comfortable enough, with a thick blanket sprawled out on the cold ground with a sprinkling of what looked like trail mix as well as shells from the sniper rifle that was no longer there, but looked like it could've been pointed right at the Goff home. I knelt down and snapped quick photos of everything, making sure to keep an ear and eye out for anyone who might’ve seen me in a place that was clearly where the killer took down their target. Whoever it was, they left in a hurry. It also looked like there was a struggle of some kind. Broken bits of wood and marks on the ground suggested that there was a fight of some caliber. I’m not a forensic expert, but the way that the dirt was shifted around on the ground looked to me like a struggle between the killer and someone else.
It’s now 7:34 am. The news of Goff’s death has spread like wildfire online and was more than likely going to be reported on the news later today. The photos I had taken were now up on my wall of nonsense (the name is a work in progress) without a single thread in sight. What I did find out later however was that there was an explosion from inside the Goff home as well as a car with the driver side door smashed in by something much bigger. None of this made any sense, which is why it’s a perfect fit for the wall of nonsense and the crap pinned up on it.
Was Vigilante involved with this? The motive made sense as far as his morals go: Goff was supposedly a dirty Senator, taking bribes from powerful companies and billionaires in order to keep his position of power. It goes against Vigilante’s moral code as far as the evidence is concerned. Not to mention that Goff was white and Vigilante only kills white people. The only thing that’s throwing me off is the whole assassination part. It’s doesn’t feel like Vigilante to kill someone from a distance. He normally does things face to face. Close up. Personal. This didn’t feel personal. It felt like a contract. A mission. Like there was more than one person involved.
Off topic: maybe it’s just my paranoia kicking in, but I genuinely think I’m being watched as I’m sleeping. That creepy feeling of a pair of eyes on me as I slept made chills run down my spine every time I thought about it. My windows and doors are always locked but that doesn’t calm my nerves at all. The eyes watch me from the darkness outside my window on the precarious ledge that not even a cat is able to walk on.
Needless to say, I bought blinds and a curtain and put them up immediately.

----
Evan Buckley was a pain in your ass.
He had been since the day you met him. His annoyingly attractive face, his stupid pretty blue eyes and his smile, not to mention how sweet he was. You couldn't help but hate him. Not in the typical “I hate your guts and hope you fall down a flight of stairs” way but in the “god you’re gorgeous and I want to marry you” way.
Did you plan on liking the ridiculously attractive firefighter ? Most definitely not.
Were you also planning on dating him in secret ? Also a no.
Hence why you were sitting in his jeep on a Saturday at 3 in the morning. The two of you had gone on a date to this little restaurant outside of the city but everything that could go wrong kind of did go wrong.
Buck’s shift was supposed to end at 6 but they got a call last minute so he didn’t get home until 7:30. You called to push the reservation back and when he did pick you up, you got stuck in traffic. By the time the two of you got to the restaurant, it was 8:30 and the woman said she called to see if the two of you still needed the reservation but there was no answer (she didn’t call but neither of you were in the mood to argue) - Now it's 9 pm and the two of you still haven't had dinner. Venturing down the block, there was nowhere that seemed appealing. The night really began at some random mom and pop dinner you spotted by the beach. Deciding to have your own little dinner date on the beach, it was now 9:30. Buck had a blanket in the trunk (you didn’t ask why nor did you really wanna know) and you sat on the beach and had dinner. Time flew by, it was around 1 when the two of you began wondering what time it was.
The date was now prolonged by Buck’s craving for something sweet so once again, the two of you were on a hunt but for somewhere to go. He googled the closest ice cream parlour but most places were closed, he searched until he finally found a place that was 20 minutes away. It was totally worth the drive considering it was some of the best ice cream you've had in your life. Which now brought you to 2:20 in the morning, the two of you were still sitting on the hood on his jeep, a container of half eaten ice cream between you.
Buck looked over at you, a smile on his face. “Did you have fun ? despite, you know, all the shit that went wrong ?” you chuckled, “I did.” Buck had a shift at 11 so it was time for the night to come to an end. One of his hands held yours and the other on the wheel, you were staring out the window as the breeze blew by.
“Something on your mind babe?” Buck asked you, glancing over at you as you turned towards him.
“We shouldn’t be doing this” you mumbled, you didn’t want to end things with him but that didn’t mean that you didn’t have doubts about where this relationship was going. “What do you mean ?” he asks, his eyes on the road. “I mean how long are we going to hide this from everyone ?” your eyes back out the window, Buck sighed and the conversation dropped. There were a few minutes of silence and the tension filled the car, Buck finally spoke up “you were the one that didn’t want to say anything.” his voice came off a bit harsher than you expected, letting go of his hand, your body shifted towards the door and way from him. He noticed your change in emotion and seating.
“Babe, I'm sorry. It's just that you didn’t want to say anything and it’s entirely your choice. I get it but we can figure it out. One step at a time, okay ?” Buck looks over at you when he pulls into the parking lot. “Yeah, I know. It’s fine.” leaning over the console to press a kiss to his cheek.  “Good night Buck, thank you for tonight” you give him a smile and get out of the jeep. Buck follows you, “let me walk you up,” he grabs your wrist, the two of you stopped in the middle of the parking lot. “That’s fine, I'll text you so you know I’m okay. You need to get home anyways, you have a shift and you need your sleep” shaking your head, you pull your hand away from him and head inside before he can ask again.
He was right, it was your choice not to say anything but you weren't sure how your uncle would react. This relationship wouldn't just affect your relationship with him but also his relationship with Buck. You didn’t- couldn't let Buck jeopardize his work life for his love life.
Shutting the door once you get into your apartment, you send a text to your boyfriend.
To Lover Boy Buck: I’m home, text me when you get home. Sleep well <3
From Lover Boy Buck: Just pulled in, goodnight babe
----
Athena’s birthday was on Saturday and Bobby had planned a surprise party for her. With a little help from May, things were in place.
Bobby had taken Athena out for lunch at some fancy cafe that was impossible to get into and then to see a play. While they were out, you headed over to their place to help May set up. Upon arriving, you saw that Hen was already there as was Buck.
“Good afternoon my loves!” you shout as you walk over to the kitchen. “I come with coffee” you hand a cup to May and the other to Hen, the two are thankful for the coffee as you had a shit ton of decorating to do and only a few hours to get it done. Buck leant against the wall by the kitchen entryway, “where's mine?” he asked which made you roll your eyes. “Didn’t know that you were gonna be here, no one invited you anyways.” you reply, sorting through the packages of balloons on the table, you toss one and it hits him square in the face.
“Ow!” he shouts, rubbing his cheek.
“Oh did I hurt you ?” you ask, pouting at him mockingly.
Considering the weird note that the two of you left on during your last date, plus not being able to see each other that week left things in a bit of a mess.
May and Hen exchange glances, “Buck, how about you help put up the banner in the backyard ?” she practically dragged Buck by the arm and into the yard. May was in the kitchen icing some cupcakes that she and Harry had made the night before when she called for you.
“Why don't you get along with Buck ? I don't know him all the well but he seems like a good guy” May pleads his case unintentionally.
He is a good guy
“Ever meet someone and you just don’t like them ?” you ask, she hums. “That’s me with Buck” is what came out instead.
“I get it.” she nodded, she began telling you about a guy in her chemistry class that just got on her nerves all the time. You excused yourself when the doorbell rang. Chim and Maddie had arrived right as Karen pulled into the driveway with Denny and Nia. You let everyone in and they began helping too. About an hour later, Eddie arrives with Chris and the cake. You take the cake from him so he can help Chris with his jacket.
“Buck!” you shout
“Yeah ba- yeah ?” he corrects himself last second. Your eyes widen at the word that almost slipped out of his mouth. No one seem to catch it except for Chim who gave you a weird look but you just brush it off.
“Take this, I need to change.” you hand the cake off to him and head to the bathroom to change into your dress. A few moments later, there was a knock on the bathroom door and then it opened.
“Hey! I'm chang- oh it’s just you” you mumble as he shuts the door. Buck’s back pressed up against the door. “Are you just gonna watch me or are you going to help me?” you turn, your back towards him now. Pulling your hair over your shoulder, you feel one of Buck’s hands on your waist and then the tug of the zipper.
“Must you always fight with me, y/n ?” he presses a kiss to your shoulder, his arms wrapping around your waist. “Must you always get on my nerves, Evan ?” you were looking back at him in the mirror, he flashed you a smile and nodded, a rather amused look on his face. “Yeah, it's kind of my job to irritate you” his arms loosen as you turn around to face him now, leaning back against the counter. “Well I guess then I have to fight with you” running your hand through his hair, he leans into you, his forehead against yours.
“You know, they say make love, not war” he whispers, his lips almost touching yours. A little chuckle slips past your lips, “is this your way of saying that we should stop fighting ?” you mumble as you press a kiss to his lips. Buck pulls you closer to him - which you didn’t even think was possible, “no, it’s my way of saying we should make love” he smiles against your lips as he lifts you up onto the counter and you let out an obnoxiously loud laugh. “Oops” a hand comes up to cover your mouth. Buck can't help but smile, you were adorable and all he wanted was to go out there and tell everyone that he’s in love with you, something he hadn't even told you yet, but at last, he could not.
“You’re cheesy, you know that right ?” looking up at him whilst you fiddled with the hem of his shirt. “If you want to fuck me, just say so” he tells you to which you reply “you're so vulgar Evan” while rolling your eyes.
“Oh I'll show you vulgar” he chuckles and pulls off his shirt, his hand reaching behind you to unzip your dress.
--
Buck left the bathroom first, the house had filled up within the 20 minutes the two of you were in the bathroom. He ran his hand through his hair in hopes to fix it from the tugging that just happened. As he stepped out into the backyard, his sister’s voice called out to him.
“Buck!” she walked over, “you’ve been so busy I haven't gotten a chance to say hi yet” she pulls her brother into a hug. Maddie’s face screws into a confused look. “Did you try a new body wash or something ?” she looks up at Buck, his brows furrow but he shakes his head. “Why?” he asks, “you smell like mint” she informs him.
You step out into the backyard, a tube of mint chapstick between your fingers,  being applied to your lips. Buck’s eyes were on you, watching as the tube rubbed across your lips, his mind back to those lips were moments ago. Chimney’s voice caused him to pull his eyes away from you and onto him.
“Uh why is your shirt inside out?” Chim asks him, brows raised. Buck looks down and his shirt is on inside out, “uh, I- uh I had to change.” he says, hoping they’d believe him.
“You had that shirt on when we got here.” Chim had a puzzled look on his face.
“Oh Christopher is calling for me, excuse me” Buck walks off before they could say anything. He did indeed make his way over to Eddie and Chris, you were on the other side of the backyard when your phone chimed.
From Lover Boy Buck: Couldn't you have told me my shirt was on inside out?
To Lover Boy Buck: And how was I supposed to know that ? I didn’t have time to look at you
From Lover Boy Buck: Oh really ? You had plenty of time a few minutes ago
To Lover Boy Buck: Behave.
From Lover Boy Buck: Make me.
You roll your eyes at his comment, May coming out and shouting that they just pulled in. Everyone stood by the backdoors, waiting for Athena and Bobby to come in.
Athena had a blindfold on as Bobby led her down the stairs to the backyard. “I swear if you did somethin-” he undoes the blindfold mid sentence.
“Surprise!!” everyone shouts, Athena had a huge smile on her face. She turns to Bobby, “you did all this ?” he smiles but shakes his head, “I had some help” nodding towards May, Athena walked over to her daughter to give her a hug. Bobby and Athena went around to say hello to everyone, Bobby coming over to you and Eddie, Buck and Chris were sitting beside each other. “Hey” Bobby smiled at the two of you, “hey” you smiled back before you gave him a hug.
“What do I own you for today ?” he asks you
“Nothing at all, I'm glad I could help.”
“Are you sure kid ?”
“Yeah, I'm good. I’ll let you know if I need something uncle Bobby”
He smiles and goes off to talk to Chim and Maddie. Eddie switches places with Buck, Christopher showing his father the trick that Buck just showed him. “You’re good with kids” you tell him, “yeah, I know” he replies. “You're also an arrogant asshole but perspective I suppose.” Buck chuckled at your comment, watching as you walked away.
It was a while before you sat down for dinner, you were in the house with Bobby, helping him bring stuff out while everyone got seated. When you returned, there were two seats left. One at the head of the table, which was where your uncle was currently headed, leaving you no choice but to sit beside Buck. “Pass me the green bowl ?” he asks you, “no thanks” you reply nonchalantly. Bobby gives you a look, “y/n, pass him the bowl” you sighed and handed the bowl to Buck who was snickering. It took all of you not to smack this man in front of everyone.
A hand on your upper thigh startled you, you coughed and Eddie looked at you from across the table, his brows furrowed. Your hand comes down to rest on top of Buck’s. Chris followed his father’s look over to you, “are you okay y/n?” he asked you sweetly, you smiled at him. “I’m okay buddy, thank you for asking” Buck bit the inside of his cheek, holding back a smile. Oh how he wanted to kiss you right now, but again, he couldn't really do that, could he? He settled for holding your hand under the table like teenagers for now.
----
8 o'clock and you were supposed to be there 20 minutes ago. Bobby was probably there wondering where you were. You were supposed to be having dinner with your uncle tonight to tell him about you and Buck. Buck offered to tell him but you felt like it was only right for you to tell him.
You dialled the number but it rang out. You assumed he was still driving or maybe he was ruining late too. The phone rang while you searched for something to wear. It was Bobby.
“Hey!” you answer, “I'm gonna be a little late”
“Y/n, we’re gonna have to take a rain check on dinner.” Something was wrong, you could tell from the way he answered.
“Everything okay ? Are you still at work ?”
“I’m at the hospital.”
“What? Why? Are you okay ? Is it Athena ?”
“Athena and I are fine. It’s Buck, he’s in surgery right now. I don't think I'll be leaving anything soon. I’m sorry about dinner.”
Your heart dropped when he said it was Buck.
“Did anyone tell Maddie ? Do you want me to pick her up ?”
“It's alright, Chim went and got her. You don't have to come, we’re ok-”
“I’ll be there in 10 minutes”
Grabbing the keys, you’ve never run down the stairs so fast in your life. The whole drive over, it felt like the world was moving in slow motion. He’d still be in surgery when you arrived but you needed to know what happened.
I love you Evan Buckley.
The 5 words replaying in your head over and over again. The 5 words you hadn’t gotten the chance to say to him. The team plus Maddie and Athena were in the waiting room. Bobby came over and gave you a hug, “is he okay ? Did you guys hear anything ?” you ask as you sit beside Maddie. “Not yet” Bobby returns to his seat.
“Mads, I'm sorry” you gave her a hug, she gave you a small smile. “It’s okay. Buck’ll pull through. He always does.”
--
3 hours later and still nothing, he had been in surgery 2 hours prior to you arriving, bringing it to a total of 5 hours. Athena and Bobby left for a few minutes to see if they could get an update on him. You looked around the room, Eddie was leant against the wall, his legs on the chairs in front of him, Hen stood by the window on the phone with who you assumed was Karen. Chim’s arm was wrapped around Maddie, her head resting on his shoulder.
Bobby and Athena returned telling everyone that there was no update other than he was still in surgery. Your leg bounced as you waited, Bobby rested a hand on your knee when he sat back down.
“You okay kid ?”
“Mhm hm why ?”
“You only bounce your leg when you’re nervous. You’re sure you’re okay ?”
“Yeah, I'm gonna go get some coffee” you announce as you get up. If you spent another minute in that room, you were going to combust, you couldn't take it. “Does anyone want anything ?” there were a few mumbles of no but Eddie gets up and says he’ll come with you. The two of you walk down the hallway to the other end. Slipping a bill into the machine, it buzzes and then nothing. Eddie watches as you push the button a few times. Frustrated and tired, your hand smacks against the machine. A few nurses glare in your direction.
“Hey, go get some air okay ? I’ll get the coffee and meet you outside” Eddie’s hand on your back, leading you to the doors.
“Eddie, I'm fine”
“Y/n, go. You’ve been in here for a while and honestly, I could use the air too.”
Not in the mood to protest, you step outside. It was a little past 11 now, it was dark and cold out. Your back pressed up against the brick wall, the coldness seeping through your shirt. A hand running over your face in an attempt to wake you up, you sigh as the door opens.
“Here” Eddie handed you a mug that didn’t look like it came from a machine. The mug read “#1 nurse” on it and his says “world’s best mom” your brows furrow, looking at the man standing beside you. “I sweet talked one of the nurses, it's fine. I promised to return the mugs when we're done.” he says casually, making you smile. You had always enjoyed Eddie’s company, he didn’t ask questions or poke around in your life, he just lived in the moment.
“Cute shirt” he chuckles, looking down at the blue t-shirt you had on. You hadn't realized that you left wearing it. “Oh thanks” you mumble, taking a sip of coffee. “It’s Buck’s, isn't it?” he asks, you almost choked on the coffee.
“Wha- why would you ask me that ?”
“It reeks of his cologne,” Eddie chucked. “I’ve known for months, y/n. The two of you aren't as slick as you think.”
“Who else knows ?”
“No one that I know of, Chim has an idea but he hasn't said anything”
You hummed, looking out at the parking lot in front of you. “Does Bobby know ?” Eddie’s eyes practically burn into your side.
“I was going to tell him tonight.”
Eddie’s phone buzzed before he could say anything else. “Let’s go in, the doctors are out.” Eddie followed you into the building and back into the waiting room. The doctor has just stepped in, she glanced back at you and Eddie, “Are you here for Buckley as well ?”
“Yeah, how is he?” Eddie asks, the two of you step further into the room. “He’s stable as of now, we managed to stop the bleeding. He’s asleep but he’s got a long road ahead of him.” the doctor inform everyone, you watch as Maddie lets out a sigh, her hand squeezing Chim’s. “I can take someone in, if they’d like to go in” Chim let go of Maddie’s hand as she went to follow the doctor down the hall. Eddie could sense the change in body language, you were relaxed until Maddie stepped out with the doctor. His hand rests on your back again, “let’s sit down. You can go in after” he whispered to you. To anyone else in the room, it would look like something was happening between you and Eddie but he was just comforting you. There was nothing happening.
The person you were in love with was laying in a hospital bed at the other end of the hallway.
One by one, everyone went in to see him. Chim went in first, meeting Maddie in his room. When they return, they let everyone know he’s awake. Bobby and Athena are next, they go in for a few minutes. Hen was after them, you could hear them laughing from the other end of the hallway.
It was so good to hear him laugh.
You and Eddie went in last. Eddie sat beside his bed on the chair, he and Buck having a conversation. Eddie looked over at you, you were standing by the door. “I think I'll go call Chris and let him know you’re alright” Eddie pats Buck’s shoulder before stepping out the room.
Buck’s attention was now on you. “hey you” he mumbles, trying to shift into a sitting position. “Don’t move, you’ll rip your stitches.” you take a seat where Eddie was a few moments ago. Buck’s hand reaches for yours, although he was awake, his hand felt cold. Your hand rubbed against his, his eyes on you. Neither of you say anything to the other.
“I thought I lost you for a minute there.”
“You’ll never lose me, y/n” Buck’s hand squeezes yours.
“But I almost did and I hated every minute of it.” the tears welling up by your eyes, you blink a few times to get rid of them but instead a few slip down. Buck reaches up to wipe your tears, his hand cupping your cheek.
“All of this for me ?” he teases, “there was no need to worry, you know that, right?”
“You scared me you ass, don't do that” you sniffle, your hand wrapping around his wrist.
“Y/n, I need to tell you something” his eyes were on yours, now you were worried again. “Okay, what is-”
“I love you” he blurts out.
“Oh Buck” you breathe, the soft expression on his face changes to a worried one. “Oh god, I'm sor-” your hand comes up and covers his mouth.
“I love you too” you smile at him, you can feel him smile against your hand. Moving your hand to his cheek, “you do ?” he asks, you nod. “How can I not ?” Leaning out of the chair, your lips meet his. Your hand is still cupping his face and his hand lifting off the bed to meet your waist. Shifting from the chair to the bed, you sat beside Buck, your lips still on his.
“Excuse me?” someone clears their throat, Buck pulls away to look at who's by the door. Bobby stood in the doorway, his arms folded in front of him and a rather amused Athena beside him. Buck’s eyes widen, you look over your shoulder to see your uncle standing there.
“I can explain. Bobby I-” Buck starts, but Bobby cuts him off. “It’s okay Buck, I know.” he steps into the room.
“You do?” the two of you say at the same time, both of you looking at him. Bobby nods, “I might be old - well older than you two but I’m not dumb” he chuckles, “if anything, you two are the dumb ones for thinking I wouldn't know.” he says
“I was going to tell you at dinner”
“I figured as much, I also figured you’d want to be here when Buck woke up”
“Thank you for calling” you smile at him, he gives you a nod. “Everyone is heading home, are you going to stay with him ?”
You hum, your attention back on Buck. You could hear Athena and Bobby whispering in the back and then the door shuts. Buck shifts slightly on the bed, making space for you. Laying on your side, beside him, your finger traces over the words tattooed on his forearm. The world had come to a pause finally, the things around you didn’t matter right now. Everything you cared about was beside you, the hospital wasn't the ideal place but all you cared about that he was okay.
“Tell me again” you whisper, your head on his shoulder. Buck turns his head to look at you.
“I love you y/n l/n”
“I love you Evan Buckley”
Turns out you did get to say those 5 words after all.

Seasons of PD: Season 7: Don’t You Ever Do That Again, You Hear Me? (A Halstead Brothers + Halstead Sister! Imagine)
A/N: There are mentions of B1ack Liv3s M4tter (apparently this ended up in that tag, so I changed the wording, so hopefully it’s not there anymore) in regards to peaceful protests in this. And there are mentions of counter-protesters causing riots. I tried my best to portray this as professionally as possible with Y/N's views, Kevin's views, and Jay's views. I did not try to offend anyone at all and I'm very sorry if I did.
Also, I don't know if one part counts as threat of sexual coercion, but I'm fairly certain that's what it's called, so trigger warning for that.
Your age: 18
Jay's age: 32
Will's age: 34
"I get that it's important to you, but I'm not letting you go!" Jay argued as you stood across from him in a screaming match.
"Why? Because You don't believe the same things as me because you haven't met a bad cop? Because you fought for this country and know people who died for it?" you yelled back.
"Yes, me being a cop and a soldier obviously has something to do with this! But I'm also trying to keep you safe! They turn into riots!"
"You do know that's not the Black Lives Matter protesters who start them, right? They're peaceful. Counter-protesting assholes come and start things to give peaceful protesters a bad image!"
"I don't want you to get hurt if something happens! Tear gas hurts, kid. I don't want you to come home with burning eyes and the possibility of going blind and tell me I'm right. I'm trying to prevent that!"
"I know you are, Jay! I just want you to let me have my own damn opinions and do what I want for once!"
"Has a cop ever hurt you in some way? Pulled you over illegally?" Jay roared.
You wanted to tell him your story about something like that that had happened five weeks ago, two weeks after the infection scare across the entire city, but you couldn't because you knew he'd do something stupid and you didn't want that. "No, but--"
His phone rang, cutting you off. "I'll be there," Jay said quickly. Then, he turned back to you. "I gotta go, caught a case. I'll see you later and we can talk about this. Calmly."
"So, you're saying there's a chance you'll let me go?"
"There's maybe a .001% chance, but sure, believe what you want."
You rolled your eyes and he left. But, as he shut and locked the apartment door, he stopped. "Love you," he whispered. Because, with what he did on the job, he knew that there was the possibility every day of him not coming home to you.
***
When you woke up, you were shocked not to see a text from Jay between 3 and 5 am saying that he wouldn't make it home tonight. He usually made it a priority when on a case to tell you that he wouldn't be coming home so that you wouldn't worry.
But, there was a voicemail from him around 11 pm last night and it was currently 9 am.
You put your phone on speaker and played it.
"Hey, Y/N, I'm sorry about arguing. If you really want to go, I think Kevin has his RDO tomorrow so I can see if he's going if you-- OW!" Then, the line just continued playing, and dragging noises were heard until there was a crash and the line went dead.
"Jay? Jay?" What the hell had happened? You quickly replayed the message to make sure it wasn't an issue with your phone, but when you heard the same exact thing again, you knew something had gone terribly wrong.
You went to dial Hailey's number to ask if she had seen Jay when there was a loud knock on your door. You quickly ran across the apartment and looked out the peephole. You saw Hailey and Adam and quickly flung open the door.
"Hey, Y/N," Adam said as he entered.
"Have you guys seen Jay?" you asked.
You saw Hailey visibly swallow. "Listen," she started, but you cut her off.
"What happened? What's going on? He usually texts me if he's going to be working until the morning and I didn't get a text and I got a voicemail and--" You took a deep, gasping breath.
"What voicemail?" Hailey asked as she placed a hand on your shoulder.
"I- It cut off partway through and he yelled and-- wait, he wasn't with you?"
"No," Hailey answered. "He said he had some personal stuff to take care of when we were at a scene and then took off. Then, he never came back, so we decided to check here to see if he just came home or something happened."
"He never came home." Your eyes widened, finally processing what it meant if he wasn't here and Intelligence couldn't find him. "You're telling me he's missing? Again? Oh, no. This can't be happening, not again. Not after our fight last night. I didn't even tell him what happened or that I loved him or--"
"Y/N, I need you to take a deep breath," Hailey told you and you tried to match her breathing. "His radio might just be dead or something like that." She knew that she was lying, but she was trying to stop you from freaking out. "Can you give me your phone so Adam and I can listen to the voicemail?"
You nodded and handed Adam your phone. He pressed play and you watched as his jaw clenched as he was listening to it.
"Shit," he muttered once he was done. "We need you to come to the district with us. Just for safety."
"Can you give me a minute?" you asked. "I- I'm in my pajamas and I haven't brushed my teeth and--"
"We'll leave in half an hour, okay?" Hailey asked and you nodded. "While you're getting ready, we'll send the voicemail over to Kim and Kev. Jay's gonna be okay."
"How do you know that?" you almost whispered.
"Because Jay's one of the strongest people I know," she answered. But, in reality, she wasn't sure about that. They had no idea where he was and according to the timestamp on that voicemail, it had been a little over ten hours since he sent it. For all they knew, Jay could be out of Chicago right now. Scratch that, he could be out of Illinois.
***
"When did you get this voicemail?" Hank asked as everyone in Intelligence, minus Jay but including you, were in the bullpen and trying to trace where the call came from.
"Around 11 last night, Boss," Adam answered for you.
"Okay. So it's been almost 11 hours," Voight said.
"I need a break, excuse me," you said and quickly excused yourself to the locker room.
You made your way to the locker room and sat down and leaned against the wall. This couldn't be happening again, not after that crazy borderline sociopathic drug dealer kidnapped Jay a few years ago and Erin went in and saved him. This could not be happening again.
You thought back to the fight last night and something your mom would always say when she was in a fight with one of the boys or when you had thrown a temper tantrum and then had to go to bed.
I'll always tell you I love you because when you walk out that door or go to bed, I'll never know if that was the last chance I had to tell you I love you.
God, if you hadn't argued with Jay, maybe you wouldn't be feeling this way. Obviously, you'd be feeling scared and upset because Jay was missing and no one had any idea where he was, but at least you wouldn't feel guilty like you currently did.
You felt guilty about starting that fight in the first place by bringing it up even though you knew what his answer was going to be. You felt guilty about yelling. But most of all, you felt guilty and you regretted not saying love you when he left...because that might've been the last time you'd have been able to tell that to your big brother who had always been there for you...even when he really didn't want to.
Jay's Nokia flip phone buzzed as he walked out of school. It was his mom.
"Hey, Mom," he greeted.
"Jay Halstead, if you answered your phone while you're driving..." she trailed off, trying to think of a good threat.
"Mom, I didn't. I was talking to some friends about going for tacos tonight, so I just walked out of school a minute ago."
"Oh," she said.
"What oh?" Jay asked. "That sounded like a bad oh, Mom."
"Well, I wish I would've known that before a professor called in sick to give an exam to his students and I agreed to pick up the extra hours."
"What are you talking about?"
"I can't bring Y/N to the dentist. And I thought since you weren't busy, you could. I also may or not have promised her that she could go to Build-A-Bear after to get a new outfit for Beary because she's so scared."
"Mom," Jay groaned.
"I know, I'm sorry. But, how about this: you do this for me, and I'll extend your curfew by two hours on Friday and Saturday."
"Three," Jay countered.
"Two." Amelia Halstead stood strong.
"Three."
"Two and a half."
"Deal," Jay agreed.
"Thank you. I'll see you tonight. Love you."
"Love you, too."
***
"No," you whined as Jay told you that you had to leave after he walked you home from school later. "I don't wanna go to the dentist. They scary."
"No, they're not," Jay told you. The doctor was what was scary for him with all the needles for the shots. But, the dentist had never bothered him, even when he was a little kid it had never bothered him.
"No!"
"What if I let you bring Beary into the dentist, would you go then?" Jay practically pleaded.
"And you give me chocolate before we leave?"
"If you promise to grab your toothbrush and brush your teeth in the bathroom at the dentist, then yes, I'll give you some chocolate to eat on the way there." Jay was desperate at this point. He knew he shouldn't be giving you everything you wanted, but what were big brothers with a giant age gap for anyway if not to try and spoil his little sister?
"Okay!" You ran off to go grab Beary and your toothbrush and toothpaste while Jay made his way to a high cabinet in the kitchen and grabbed five squares of Dove milk chocolate, three for you and two for him.
In the car, Jay handed you the cholates and you started eating them while you held Beary close to you, trying to gain some comfort out of your favorite stuffed animal.
***
You gripped Jay's hand as you sat and waited for your name to be called. Beary was held in your other hand and you were squeezing him tight against your chest. You had just brushed your teeth like you promised Jay that you would, but you were still utterly terrified.
"Y/N Halstead?" a dental hygienist came out and asked.
You didn't say a word, just held Jay's hand tighter.
"That's you," Jay said gently and with a smile on his face, trying to make you feel less scared.
"No, not me," you told him as you frantically shook your head.
The dental hygienist squatted down in front of you. "Are you Y/N?" You didn't do anything, but Jay must've nodded to confirm that it was indeed you. "And who's this?" she asked as she shook Beary's paw.
"Beary," you said shyly.
"Well, I'm fairly certain that Beary will be with you the entire time. We even have little sunglasses you and he can wear when we shine the really bright light on you to protect both your little eyes. Does that sound good?"
You turned to Jay. "Me and Beary get sunglasses, Jay Jay!"
"I heard! Do you want me to come back with you?"
You thought for a second. "Please come."
Jay laughed. "Okay." He turned to the dental hygienist. "Is that okay?"
"Perfectly fine."
You stood up and held Jay's hand as you walked back into the dentist to get your six-month check-up on your baby teeth.
***
"That wasn't so bad was it?" Jay asked as the two of you walked out to his car after you finished.
"No!" you said as you shook your head. "I even got a pretty bracelet with Belle on it, see?" you exclaimed as you held your hand out to him to show off your yellow bracelet with a charm that had Belle from Beauty and the Beast on it.
Jay acted all surprised and said it was pretty even though he watched as you had picked it out while he had explained to the secretary how your mom would call to schedule your next appointment in six months.
Jay opened his car and made sure you were buckled in and then got in himself and started driving.
"Do you know where we're going?"
You gasped. You had forgotten you got to go to Build-A-Bear after!
"Build-A-Bear!" you yelled. The volume of that yell would've made Jay wince had he not been driving.
"Yup, that's where we're going."
"I think I'm gonna get Beary some new pajamas," you decided.
"What color?"
You held Beary out in front of you. "What color pjs do you want, Beary?" You brought him up to your ear and nodded as he "told" you what color pajamas he wants. "He said blue!"
"Blue pajamas. I'm pretty sure we can find those."
***
Jay and you walked into Build-A-Bear Workshop at the mall and you were met with children running around. To Jay, this was the definition of hell. Except for you, he was fine with you running around, but he really didn't like all the other kids that he had to be careful not to bump into.
"C'mon, Jay Jay!" you told him as you tugged him along to the pajama section.
He allowed himself to be tugged along by you and then you held up almost every single pair of blue pajamas to Beary to see which one was his favorite. He had decided on a pair of light blue pajamas with stars all over them. There was even a cute little hat with a pom-pom on top to go with the pajamas.
Jay paid and then you left with Beary and his brand-new pajamas. You had plans to have him sleep in those pajamas tonight, too.
Unbeknownst to you, Jay hadn't even really wanted to come. The only reason he brought you was that he got his curfew extended. But to you, it was just another fun afternoon with your big brother.
You were startled out of your daydream when you felt a hand on your shoulder. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
Kevin.
"It's fine. I'm fine," you said quickly.
"No, you're not. And that's okay. Hailey and Voight went to see if Jay's where his phone pinged at."
"We fought," you told him.
"You fought?" Kevin asked as he slid down the wall to sit next to you.
"It was stupid. I should've just agreed with him and maybe I wouldn't be feeling like this."
"Like what?"
"Like utter shit." You sighed and ran a hand through your hair. "We were arguing about the BLM protests that were happening tonight. I wanted to go, but he wouldn't let me. The last thing I did was roll my eyes at him, Kev."
The two of you sat in silence for a few moments while Kevin figured out how to comfort you.
"Maybe talking about it will help. What'd you argue about?"
"Just that I wanted to go and he wouldn't let me because he thinks riots will break out. And you and I both know that's not the BLM protesters, that's the counter-protesters. But, he thinks I'll get hurt. I also think it's because he's a cop, so he feels like I'm protesting him, but I'm not. I'm protesting the system."
Kevin nodded. "I get it. Believe me, I do. I live it every day."
"How do you do it?" you asked. "Be an activist and a cop at the same time?"
"Just try and do the right thing with the information you have. And, explain that you're protesting the system and the bad apples, not the police force as a whole."
"I tried. But Jay doesn't think I have a right to protest because I've never had a bad experience with a cop." Which was a lie, but you weren't ready to talk about that just yet.
"Did he say that exactly?" Kevin asked.
"No, but, he asked me if a cop has ever illegally pulled me over."
Kevin nodded. "I know Jay and I know he would never say that you didn't have the right protest. He fought for that right. He mention anything else?"
"That tear gas hurts."
"I think he just wanted to keep you safe, same thing I'd do for Jordan and Vanessa."
"He sounded like he changed his mind on his voicemail, though. He thought that maybe if you were going, then he'd let me go...at least, that's what it sounded like."
Kevin nodded. "All I can say is that until we found Jay, I'm not going to one. Getting your brother is my first priority and it's the first priority of everyone in this unit."
"My first priority, too."
"Kev!" Adam yelled as he banged on the door. "You in there?"
"Yeah, bro! What's up?" Kevin asked.
"We need you to meet with someone!"
***
The hours passed and with each of them that did, you got more and more nervous for Jay's safety. You guessed that this is how he felt when you asked if you could go to the protest, knowing that he'd constantly be worrying about you until you came home safely.
"Y/N, we gotta go," Trudy said as she entered the bullpen around 9:30 pm that night.
"Why? What's going on?" you asked as you grabbed your phone and started following her.
"They found Jay."
"Is he okay?" you asked quickly.
"Y/N..."
"No! He can't be dead, Trudy! He can't!" you wailed.
"He's not. But, he has been shot."
You froze. Shot. Jay had been shot.
"He's en route to Chicago Med right now."
"Can you- can you bring me there?"
"That's where we're going right now."
***
"Will!" you yelled as you ran into the ED and saw your oldest brother.
You ran right up to him and hugged him, not caring that he almost dropped his iPad he had been using to chart.
"Whoa, Y/N." He set the iPad down. "Hey, I know. But Crockett's operating on him right now and he's one of the best surgeons in the hospital."
"I thought you were better than him. You need to do the surgery, Will. you need to save Jay!"
"Y/N, I know it sucks, but I'm family. As much as I want to operate on him, I can't legally do that."
You paused and looked up at him. His eyes were slightly red, but he hadn't been bawling the way that you had been.
"Dr. Halstead! Incoming!" Maggie yelled.
"What does she mean?" you asked, still hanging onto him. "You're still working?"
"There's been a ten-car pile-up on the highway. I have to. It's my job."
"But Jay's in surgery!" you yelled as you pulled away from him. "These people are more important to you than your own brother?"
"They aren't but--"
"But you're working anyway instead of waiting to find out what happens to him?"
"I can't do anything to help Jay right now. But I can help all these people who are pouring in."
"Dr. Halstead!" Maggie shouted again.
"I'll be up in a few hours, I promise," Will told you.
***
A few hours had passed and it was now past midnight. Jay was still in surgery. Will was sitting next to you, in a spare pair of clothes he had packed instead of his scrubs that were covered in blood, and you were leaning your head on his shoulder, close to being asleep.
That was until Crockett came out and Will jumped up, causing your head to hit the back of the chair.
"Ow," you mumbled.
"Sorry," Will apologized and then turned back to Crockett. "What's the verdict?"
"He lost a lot of blood," Crockett told the two of you.
"But he's gonna pull through, right?" Will asked what the two of you were both thinking.
"We'll be out of blood soon."
"What do you mean out of blood?" Will asked, taking a step toward the surgeon. "There's no way you can be out of blood!"
"With that pile-up, we can. I'd recommend you go and say your goodbyes and pray for a miracle."
Will put his hands on the back of his head and started pacing the room. Your breath caught in your throat. This could not be happening. Jay couldn't die, he just couldn't.
Crockett started to walk back towards the operating room.
"Wait!" you yelled. You didn't know what had taken over you, but at this moment, you'd do anything to save your brother. You rolled up your sleeve. "Take my blood."
"Y/N," was all Will could manage to get out.
"I'm sorry, Y/N, but there's protocol for that. I'd love to let you do it, but--"
"Fuck protocol!" you yelled, all the anger and sadness and anxiety that had built up over the past fifteen hours exploding at this very moment. "Rush my labs. Or don't even get my labs done at all. I haven't had sex, so I don't have any STDs. I don't have any diseases or deficiencies since I moved in with Jay years ago. My blood type's O-neg, so I'm a universal donor. Take my goddamn blood, Crockett!" You didn't care that all that information was out in the open because you were barely processing what you were saying. The only thing you cared about was making sure that your brother was okay.
"Y/N," Will said as he walked up to you and placed a hand on your shoulder.
"Don't touch me! And you sure as hell don't want to tell me to calm down!"
"Y/N," Will started again as he took his hand off your shoulder. "What Crockett's saying is that it's not ethical for him to do this. He could get fired."
"Where's the paperwork?" you asked as you turned back to Crockett. "I'll sign whatever I have to sign to make sure you aren't liable at all, that I'm donating this of my own free will. You can even take double the amount of blood that you normally do since I'm a universal donor. Just get me the paperwork."
Crockett and Will shared a look.
"I'll go get a nurse to get you the paperwork."
"Wait, no, no, no," Will said as he walked closer to Crockett. "You can't be serious about this!"
"She said she'll sign it."
"But, I have to co-sign it since she's a minor. So, no, you are not donating blood, Y/N. You almost passed out when I drew vials of your blood years ago. You know what's gonna happen if we take two units of blood? You are gonna feel like utter shit."
"Last I checked, I'm 18, so I can sign my own paperwork! God, I'm not a fucking child anymore, Will! I can make my own decisions!" you yelled back. "And if I don't do this, Jay will die. He'll die, Will. So, I'm giving him my blood with or without your support."
***
You sat in a chair, the ones that Will had told you about years ago with the big padded bar thing that came down in front of you in case you passed out. Typically, they'd just have you lay down in a bed, but since they were short on beds and Will told them that you had a history of getting dizzy and nauseous during simple blood draws, they had decided to put you here instead.
"Last chance to back out," Will told you as the nurse tied off your arm with a blue rubber tie and started to rub your arm to get the big vein in your left forearm to show.
"Jay's dying. No way in hell am I backing out."
Will sighed. He knew you were doing the right thing, but he also knew that you were going to feel terrible after, and he hated seeing you like that. "Okay," he said. "I'll stay here until they get the needle in you and then I'll get you some juice and cookies."
"Ready?" Monique asked.
"Ready," you confirmed. You turned to Will and squeezed your eyes shut as the needle pierced your vein. You heard the sound of the machine and knew your blood was going in there, but you didn't want to look. Getting your blood drawn, you could watch. But this, this was just too much blood to see, so you looked at Will.
"Doing okay?" he asked a few minutes later.
"Yeah," you answered because that was the absolute truth: you were feeling just fine.
"Okay, I'm gonna go get you some cookies and juice. I'll get an update on Jay while I'm out there, too."
You nodded and he left the room.
This wasn't so bad.
***
Okay, so you were lying to yourself. You were currently in hell. Giving the blood hadn't been an issue, it was how you felt after you were done giving blood.
You were currently sitting in that same chair, drinking some juice that Will had brought you. He told you that there was still no update on Jay, but that they were sending the blood back to him right now. (They had rushed labs on a small vial of blood that Monique took before you started the donation. The results came back while you were giving blood, and since your blood was clean, you could give it to Jay.) But, God, but you felt absolutely awful.
"You doing okay?" Will asked.
You shook your head and then stopped because it made you dizzy and put your head in your hands. "No," you groaned.
He handed you a glass of water. "Drink a bit of this too and then I'll open your pack of cookies."
"Why do you want me to drink water and not juice?" you asked as you closed your eyes and tried to stop the spinning in your head.
"Because, you're sweating, Short Stack. Need you to stay hydrated."
You took a few sips of water and then went back to your juice. Will handed you your pack of chocolate chip cookies and you started to eat them.
"Mhm," you groaned and laid your head down on the padded bar thing in front of you that kept you from falling out of the chair. "I don't feel so good."
You felt hot and cold at the same time and the world seemed to spin every time you lifted your head up. And, those cookies did not sit well with you.
"How do you feel? What hurts?" Will asked, jumping into doctor mode since Monique wasn't around. Will assured her that he could look after you while you recovered from your blood being donated at twice the normal amount.
"I just feel like shit," you told him, not picking up your head.
"You gotta give me some symptoms. Give me some symptoms and then I can help."
"Mhm, fine." You looked up at him and blinked slowly. "I feel hot and cold and sweaty. And I feel dizzy and nauseous."
"Okay. That's either a vasovagal reaction or from your blood pressure being low or from your  heart rate being slowed down."
"What's that reaction thingy?"
"You don't like blood in general, so a nervous system response can happen, which could explain your reactions. But, your BP could also be low, which could explain all this too. And, it's one in the morning and you haven't slept yet, so tiredness could also be a factor."
"Great," you said sarcastically as you remembered the last time your blood pressure was low.
You had taken some of Jay's medication that he had to ward off his PTSD-induced nightmares after you were involved in a shooting at a house party. The one time you took them without sleeping directly after, you felt almost exactly like this...except without the sweatiness. You just mostly felt dizzy. You had called Will, he came over, and then you ended passing out and he had to get you to Med. Then you were admitted and they got your pressure back up. You were also prescribed sleeping pills which had helped immensely.
Will grabbed a blood pressure cuff from a drawer. "Arm," he told you. You held out your arm and he wrapped the cuff around it and pumped the end of it.
You waited as he looked at the gauge on the blood pressure cuff. Will said one number over another number, which meant nothing to you, but must've meant something to him. You raised your eyebrows, hoping he was going to tell you what those numbers meant in non-medical English terms.
"BP's low, which explains most of the symptoms," he told you.
You took another bite of your cookie and washed it down with some juice, but then immediately after started dry heaving.
Will rushed around and then thrust a pink basin under your mouth.
You took a deep breath after you finally stopped dry heaving about thirty seconds later.
"Better?" Will asked. You shook your head. "I'm going to get you an IV of anti-nausea medication."
You were going to argue with him about how he wasn't working, so he probably couldn't get you that. And, you were fairly certain he couldn't prescribe things to family. But, you felt terrible, so you really don't care if Will was being reckless and borderline unethical/illegal right now.
You nodded and then laid your head back down.
When Will came back, he thought you were asleep, but when you heard footsteps, you looked up.
"Alright," he began as he assembled the IV. "Last poke of the day, I promise."
"After this can I take a nap in the on-call room?" you asked as you held your arm out to him once again.
"You know I can't let you do that." Will tied a blue band around your arm and started rubbing it to get a vein in the inside of your elbow. Then, he noticed your pale and sweaty face. "Fine. Hopefully, Goodwin won't fire me after this. But I have a good reason. Turn so you don't see the needle."
You did and closed your eyes. You felt the poke and squeezed your eyes shut, but then it subsided and you felt that weird feeling of the medicine going straight into your veins. God, you hoped this worked.
You hoped Jay would survive because you didn't just go through all that for nothing.
***
You slowly opened your eyes as you felt someone shaking your shoulder. "No," you groaned as you turned to face the other side of the bed.
But then you remembered where you were: the doctors on-call room because Jay had been shot. Maybe it was Will waking you up to tell you--
"Short Stack, wake up. Jay's awake."
That got you wide awake.
You snapped your eyes open, rolled over, and jumped out of bed.
"I take it you're feeling better?" Will asked.
"Sleep helps. Let's go!"
Will quickly led you out of the room and through some hallways and up a few flights of stairs to Jay's recovery room.
He was currently talking to Hailey.
"Jay!" you exclaimed as you burst into the room to see him with a sling and see Hailey helping him with his jacket.
"Hey, Short Stack," he greeted and then turned his attention back to Hailey. "Sorry, what were you saying?"
"Uh, just that I'm glad you're back," she told him. "I'll give you some time with your siblings." She turned her attention to Will. "Oh, and the things you told me to tell Kim to get are in that corner." She pointed to the left front corner of the room. "Bye, guys." She waved and then left.
You gave Jay a huge hug and tried to avoid his arm that was in a sling. "Don't you ever do that again, you hear me?" you told him seriously and then looked up at him with tears in your eyes.
Jay chuckled. "I'll try not to."
"You better do more than try." You went back to leaning your head against his chest as tears soaked his t-shirt.
"Hey, hey, don't cry," he soothed. "I'm okay. I'm fine, Y/N."
"I was so scared. The last thing we would've done was argue. I'm so sorry. I should never have asked to go to those protests. I know you were just trying to protect me--"
"Hey, it's okay for you to have your own opinions and views. It's just gonna take me a while to get used to you being an adult now and not that little sister who would always hold my hand and beg to go to Build-A-Bear."
"Speaking of Build-A-Bear," Will started and then walked over to the corner of the room and picked up two boxes. They were white boxes with dark blue designs on them. You knew those boxes: they were what the workers put new bears in when a kid came and bought one. You let go of Jay. Will peeked into one of the holes. "This one's for you." He handed Jay a box. "And this one's for you." He handed you the other box.
"You got us Build-A-Bears?" you asked as you raised an eyebrow.
"Just open the boxes."
You did and laughed when you saw Beary in the box, dressed in a hospital gown and white little bunny slippers. Your brothers were not kidding when they said they'd get one for you.
Jay laughed as he opened his. His Build-A-Bear was a light blue color and it also had on a hospital gown as well as a sling on one arm. The bear also had on a policeman cap. "Oh, man," Jay said as he continued laughing.
"Press the right paw," Will told him and he did, causing Ruzek's voice to float through the room.
Stop getting kidnapped. Glad you're okay, though.
You started laughing hysterically at this point.
"One more thing," Will said as he walked over to the counter and pulled out a marker and two hospital bracelets. On one he wrote Beary Halstead. "Jay, what are you naming your bear?" Will asked.
"I gotta name it?"
"Um, it's not an it. It's a he or a she...could be a they, too," you said.
"Fine. I gotta name him?"
"Yes," Will told him.
Jay groaned. "Fine. Blue."
"Boo! That's boring," you said.
He groaned again. "Detective Blue. There. Better?"
"Better," you confirmed.
Will wrote Det. Blue Halstead on the other hospital band. Then, he handed Beary's to you and Detective Blue's to Jay.
"I cannot believe you," Jay said.
"I can," Will laughed. "Now put it on him. Just like Y/N's doing with Beary."
Jay reluctantly put it on Detective Blue's arm. But then he realized something. "Wait, why does Beary have a hospital gown if Y/N wasn't in the hospital?"
"Yeah, about that..." you trailed off.
Jay cocked his head to the side. "What did you do this time?"
"Other than save your life, I got nauseous and Will had to give me anti-nausea medication," you explained.
"Wait, back up. You saved my life? How?" Jay asked as he looked between you and Will.
"She essentially cussed at Crockett until she got what she wanted," Will said nonchalantly.
"Which was...?" Jay pried.
"Giving you blood because the hospital was out because of a car accident. If she wouldn't have given you blood..." Will trailed off, not wanting to say the words.
"I'd be dead," Jay practically whispered.
"Yeah," Will confirmed, his voice at about the same volume as Jay's.
Jay felt himself getting choked up as he pulled you in for another hug. "Thank you."
"I know you'd do the same for me."
"In a heartbeat, Short Stack. In a heartbeat."
You stayed like that until Will went ahead and broke the comfortable silence that had fallen over the three of you.
"I hate to break this up, but there's something else I need to tell you guys," Will said.
You and Jay both turned to him and you let yourself out of Jay's embrace. "Which is?" you asked.
"Voight gave Jay two weeks furlough to recover and I talked Goodwin into giving me two weeks vacation--"
"How in the hell did you do that?" Jay asked.
"Let's just say I'm going to be working Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. But that's beside the point. We have two weeks of vacation time."
"You do know I work right?" you asked.
"At a coffee shop, not at a big kid job," Will said. "And, I had Kim and Adam stop in there on their way to get the bears. They explained the situation and your work gave you two weeks off. Adam said he may have had to flash his badge, but that's beside the point."
"And you took vacation because...?" you asked.
"We need to make sure Jay relaxes and there's so many protests-turned-riots happening right now that we should probably get out of here."
"You do know it's not the peaceful protesters starting those, right? It's counter-protesters and other people who are racist bigots and people who decided they have no other choice but to be violent," you said, making your views known once again.
"I'm very much aware, Y/N. But, no matter who started it, people were running from tear gas and burning buildings last night."
"Alright, back on topic," Jay started, not wanting to have another argument like he had two days ago with you. "Where are we going?"
"I figured Wisconsin would be a good choice."
***
"It's my turn to pick the music," you whined as Will looked for another song on your long drive to Wisconsin.
"I'm the oldest, so I get control of it," Will argued.
"No, you've controlled it for the last three hours. I've had to listen to nineties hip-hop for that long. My eardrums are gonna bleed. Please make him give the aux, Jay."
"Dude, just give her the aux, and then she'll be quiet. Remember, she likes early 2000s pop-punk and 2000s stuff in general. We'll probably know most of it."
Will reluctantly handed you the aux. "Thank you. And, just to remind you two, I'm a big fan of Taylor Swift's first few albums and 5 Seconds of Summer."
You clicked play on Take What You Want by One OK Rock featuring 5 Seconds of Summer. You queued up some more songs by 5 Seconds of Summer and two by Taylor Swift, just to mess with your brothers, and then you added songs they would know like All the Small Things by Blink-182, Check Yes, Juliet by We The Kings, Dear Maria, Count Me In by All Time Low, and Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard.
By the time Dear Maria, Count Me In started playing, all three of you were jamming out, which caused Jay to forget to put his blinker on when he changed lanes...and there was a cop right there in the emergency turnaround.
Jay heard and saw the sirens behind him and slowed down. He knew the drill from pulling people over on his days on patrol. Now that he was in Intelligence, he practically just ripped the criminals out of their cars and handcuffed them against the side of their (usually stolen) car.
He got out his license and registration, along with his badge because he did have his service weapon with him. He'd be damned not bringing it with him in this day and age...and sometimes there were coyotes and he and Will didn't know if the old hunting rifle at the cabin that your grandpa used to use even had ammunition in and if there was even any ammunition at the cabin.
Jay rolled down his window as the officer walked up to him.
Your hands started to sweat and your heart started to race as you remembered your last encounter with an officer that you didn't know.
You were driving home from the library late at night after studying for a biology exam. And no, the library wasn't an excuse for going out and partying. You genuinely had gone to the library and had had a great and very focused study session for a few hours.
All of a sudden, you saw flashing lights and heard sirens. You turned down your music. You looked in your rear-view mirror and saw that the cop was right on your tail. He turned off his sirens and then turned them on and off quickly.
You were the one getting pulled over.
You pulled off to the side of the road and then rolled down your window.
"License and registration," the officer told you. He looked young, maybe a rookie.
"What's the problem officer?" you asked. Jay always told you that you had a right to know why you had been pulled over.
"You were going three miles over the speed limit, did you know that?"
"I don't recall how fast I was driving." Jay always told you never to admit to speeding because then you could fight the ticket if you ended up getting one.
"License and registration, please," he repeated.
"Reaching into my glove compartment and moving some CDs to get my registration," you narrated and then handed the registration to the officer. "Reaching over to my passenger seat to grab my purse which has my license in it...unzipping my purse...reaching in for my license." You handed him your license.
He ran your information and then came back to the window. "I'm sorry, Miss, but I have to give you a ticket."
You furrowed your eyebrows. For three miles over the speed limit? No fucking way was this happening.
"Uh," was all you could say.
"But, there is something you can do to get out of this ticket. You help me out, I help you out."
"I- I don't understand," you stuttered.
He looked down and you followed where he was looking and cupping himself with the hand that wasn't holding your license and registration.
"I- I..."
"Or I can just up this speeding ticket to going twenty miles over it. Say there was an open container in the car, too," he said.
You had no idea what to say. You couldn't risk getting your insurance upped and getting a minor in possession charge. You'd never be allowed to drive again!
But, there's no way you'd do this. You couldn't. But he was so much bigger than you that he could hold you down with one hand tied behind his back.
He placed his hand on the door handle. "You have three seconds to make your decision. One...Two..."
"My brother's Jay Halstead! Badge number 51163! His Sergeant's Hank Voight!" Your voice trembled as you yelled that and you were close to tears.
He looked back down at your license. It did say Y/N Halstead on it. He handed you back your license and registration. "Have a nice night."
Then, he walked back to his patrol car, got in, turned off the sirens, and drove off. You were so scared that you didn't even look to see what his last name or badge number was.
Once you had stayed pulled over for a good couple of minutes to make sure that the cop was nowhere in sight, you started driving again. You stopped at a drive-thru and got yourself a chocolate flurry with Oreos. Then, you sat in the parking lot with your hands still shaking and your heart still racing as you ate and started to cry. You cried for almost half an hour and waited there for another fifteen minutes so your eyes wouldn't be as puffy when you got home because you didn't want Jay asking questions.
"Y/N, you good?" Jay asked, taking you out of your thoughts.
"Yeah, yeah," you said quickly...almost too quickly. "Why?"
"Will just asked if you wanted to go back because we missed a song and you didn't answer."
"Yeah, I can do that." You quickly went back to the previous song and tried to sing with as much happiness as you did previously. But, you didn't get the image of that night or the feeling of dread out of your stomach for another hour.
***
You woke up the next morning very well-rested. The boys had taken the loft and the two twin beds that were up there and you got to take your mom and dad's old room because you were the only girl, so they said it was only fair that you got the bedroom.
You heard the dripping of water and got out of bed and then padded down the hall and to the kitchen. Jay was standing there in pajama pants and a t-shirt. (Thank God he wasn't shirtless for once in the morning. Your brothers really needed to learn how to put shirts on when they walked out of their rooms in the morning...and maybe by you telling them to put a shirt on all the time, you training them had finally paid off.) He drummed his fingers on the counter while he waited for the coffee to be done.
"Morning," you said.
He turned around. "Good morning. Shocked you're awake. It's only 8 am."
"And I'm shocked you haven't been up for two hours," you retorted.
"Oh, I've been up for an hour, just been reading upstairs. Will's not up yet, though."
"He always sleeps late when he doesn't have to work though, doesn't he?"
"Pretty much. We've made breakfast plans before and he's missed them because he was sleeping."
The timer went off on the coffee pot, alerting you that it was finished. Jay started to pour his in a tumbler. He held out a tumbler to you. You raised an eyebrow, silently wondering why he wasn't pouring it into a mug.
"I was gonna go for a morning canoe ride. You can come along if you want. Wouldn't want hot coffee spilling all over us," he told you.
"Did you bring creamer?" you asked.
"Irish cream creamer, just for you."
You reached into the fridge and grabbed the creamer.
"So, canoe ride?" Jay asked.
"Sure."
He poured coffee into a tumbler for you and then slid it to you to put your desired amount of creamer in.
***
Twenty minutes later, you were starting out in the canoe. You told Jay there was no way in hell that you'd be doing the rowing. He told you that he could only row with one arm because of his sling, so you'd have to do the other side. Skeptically, you started rowing. Jay told you that you'd be fine, just to follow his instructions.
Fifteen minutes later, when you were out in the middle of the lake, facing the forests of Wisconsin, he stopped.
"Why'd you stop?" you asked.
He picked up his tumbler of coffee off the floor of the canoe. "We need to talk."
"About what?" you asked as you picked up yours as well and held it with both hands.
"About your reaction last night when I got pulled over. You freaked. I need to know why."
"I- I didn't freak. I was just tired," you lied.
"You had quite the amount of energy right before that," he quipped.
"It's nothing."
"Y/N, I'm not letting this go. Is it because of the protests and riots and because of all the media coverage and those few bad apple cops and, I guess the system, that you're seeing that's making you nervous?"
"No, it's not that."
"Then what is it?"
"You're not going to let this go are you?" you asked.
"I will stay in this canoe in the middle of the lake until you tell me what is going on, Y/N Halstead."
"You wouldn't."
Jay shrugged with the arm that wasn't currently in a sling. "Try me."
You sighed. "Just don't be mad that I didn't tell you sooner, okay?"
"I won't. You have my word on that."
"So, a little over a month ago I was driving home from the library..."
***
When you finished, you were in tears. "Did you get a last name? Badge number?" Jay asked as he rubbed circles on your back with his good hand.
You sniffled. "N- No. I'm sorry."
"You have nothing to apologize for. Nothing at all."
"If I wouldn't have said- said your name...He had his hand on my door handle! And he was so much bigger than me. I'm sorry!"
You turned and buried your face in his chest. "Y/N, you have nothing to be sorry for."
"I should've told you right away, though! But you just had that really rough case and I didn't want to put too much on your shoulders and--"
"Y/N, I need you to take a deep breath. You need to breathe. This was not your fault. None of it was."
You calmed your breathing and just sat there, silent tears streaming down your face.
"That's why I wanted to go to the protests," you said after a few minutes. "Because I've actually had a bad experience with a cop."
"Which should've never happened in the first place."
"I was so scared," you whispered.
Jay just hugged you tighter as he thought about how strong his little sister was. You had given blood to save his life even though you knew you'd feel terrible after and you hadn't told him about this horrible cop--which he would kick this cop's ass the minute the got back to Chicago--because you didn't want him to have too much on his plate after that terrible case where he put an innocent man in jail and got him killed...which was the main reason he had been shot.
"When we get back to the cabin, I'll try and call Voight. I don't know if I'll have service, though."
"Why?" you asked.
"I'm gonna have him look up who was on their beat near you that night so he can go interrogate people on my behalf. Probably best he does it and not me." Because Jay knew that the minute he saw that cop, he wouldn't be able to hold himself back.
You nodded.
"Hey, cheer up, kid. We're here for two weeks, away from everything. Away from the city and everything that goes on there. And I can promise you that that cop will get what's coming to him, whether that be losing his job or going to jail or prison."
"Do I have to tell Will? Or can you tell him? I really don't want to talk about this again."
"I can do it," Jay answered. "Speaking of Will, if he's not up when we get back, what do we say we wake him up with some cold lake water?"
"Like dump it on him?" you asked as you widened your eyes. Jay nodded. "No, that's mean. Then he'll have to wait for his sheets to dry out and they'll smell the entire time."
"We have spare sheets and blankets in the closet."
"Fine, let's do it. But just so you know, I'm telling him that it was your idea and I also have a lock on my bedroom door here, which will make it harder for him to sneak in and dump water on me."
"I will be sleeping in your room tonight," Jay joked.
"Nope. It was your idea, so you're gonna have to live with Will's payback."
Those two weeks were filled with laughter, pranks, board games, corn hole, swimming, fishing (well, you read either in the canoe or on the dock while the boys fished), and just spending time with each other. You were glad that Will had the bright idea to take two weeks up here...even though he got drenched in cold lake water the first morning by you and Jay.
A/N: I got a request from @ La_lectrice_33 on wattpad for Y/N going to the dentist, so I hope you liked that little scene! I also got a request from an anon on here about Jay and Will's reactions to her growing up, so I put that in here, too. Thank you for over 23k reads! ➳  part of the song series
↳  Does it ever drive you crazy.
Just how fast the night changes?
Tumblr media
Your daughter leaped across the parking lot, humming a melody in her head. You grinned as you squeezed her hand and walked up to the car door. Walking over to the side door you opened it, allowing her to get into her car seat.
You tossed your things in the front seat and climbed in the car while she fixed herself in her seat and buckled up for the journey. It was ice cream Thursday for both of you, so it was a special day.
“Mommy... Mommy, are we still getting ice cream today?” she inquired, her feet swung wildly in anticipation. You looked at her radiant face and gazed deep into her delicate soul, admiring both the good and the bad in her.
As you gazed at her, time seemed to stand still for a moment; your life with your daughter had been remarkable, and she was your pride and joy. Your life would be pointless without her. It was difficult for both of you to navigate this life without a strong father figure beside you, but she has been a trooper the entire time.
You looked up at the love of your life as he held her in his arms and asked, "Isn't she beautiful?" As he clutched her delicate fingers, a tear welled up in his eyes.
“I can't believe we made this little booger; I can't wait to see you grow up, my little girl,” you turned to the nurse, laughing at the sight in front of you.
“Is it okay if he stays in here with me for a while?” the nurse nodded her head as she walked out of the bed, dimming the lights. He then gently climbed onto the bed, holding both of his loves in his arms.
“You and our little creation, I love you.”
You paused and swept a tear that had escaped your dry eyes. You quickly turned around and composed yourself before answering your daughter's question.
Even though your daughter was only 5 years old she had the intuition of some wise old mentor, which came in hand occasionally. She extended her neck to the side and looked over to see what was going on.
Within minutes she was on your lap wiping your tears as you hugged her tightly. She gleaned at you and brushed your stray hairs forming around your forehead.
“Are you okay, mommy? We don't have to get ice cream if you don't feel well.” You chuckled as she leaned in close and poked your necklace, a habit she enjoys.
You took her hands in yours and kissed them as you straightened her clothes, trying to relax. You haven't had a panic attack in a long time, due to your busy schedules, and life hasn't given you a break.
“I'm fine, sweetie; I'm just a little tired, but we'll certainly get some ice cream. Okay,” As she looked at you, you peered into her eyes for a reaction. She lifted an eyebrow and cocked her head to the side.
“You know lying is bad, mommy.” She got up from your lap and returned to her car seat, where she strapped herself in and grabbed her toy while humming away, oblivious to your presence.
You started the car thinking about how much she resembles you. Justtt a little too much.
“It's up to you whether you want to go home first or go get our ice cream.” You raised your head and checked the rearview mirror.
“Let's go home and get ready, then we'll go get some ice cream,”
You laughed as you pulled out from the parking lot on your way home.
(On the other side of the parking lot happening at the same time)
“How was school, buddy? Suengcheol took his son's hand in his as he opened the car door and helped Youngsoon into his car seat. He jumped into the driver's seat and started the car to warm it up. He then turned around and awaited his reply.
“Do you mind if we try something different today? You know my friend Hyejin, she and her mother go out for ice cream every Thursday,” Youngsoon said as he put his toys down. I really want to do something similar. “Do you think we can?”
He glanced at his watch and noted the time, nodded, and turned around to proceed to put the car in drive.
“How about we go get milkshakes like we used to when mom-.” He gulped as he remembered what he had said before restating it, “Yeah bud, we should go get milkshakes like we used to.”
As he pulled out of the parking lot and drove to their favorite restaurant, Youngsoon grinned and went back to playing with his toys.
Tumblr media
“Sweetie, are you nearly ready? We've got to get going. It's a school night, so we can't stay out late.” For the third time today, she skipped down the stairs, reached for your hand, and walked with you toward the car.
As you both yelled the lyrics of your favorite song together on the way to the ice cream store, it became exciting and enjoyable. When you and Hyejin went out on the town, it was always a blast. Whatever the case might be, it was certain to be entertaining.
You pulled into the parking lot, parked your car, and unlocked the door, remembering to lock it again when Hyejin exited.
“Would you like your stroller or would you like to walk today?” As she figured out what she wanted, she looked around and pondered. She shook her head and crossed her arms, expressing surprise.
“Now that I'm a big girl, I think I'll be fine.” You smiled as you walked into the store. While we walked past the bright shops and tourist attractions, you saw her eyes widen.
You don't get much time with your daughter, so you want to make the most of it when you do. It was difficult at times to support her because you missed the other half of the support needed to truly make the best life possible for her. But you did your best to make her happy about what you had.
You were working two jobs at the time and rent was increasing as the days passed on.
“Are we going out for ice cream today, Mommy?” She raised her eyes to you as you rubbed your neck to relieve the cramp. As you squeezed her back, you shed a tear.
“Not this week, love; next week, perhaps.” Ms. Tzuyu is approaching the driveway, so mommy has to go to work. Make sure you behave and finish your work; can you do that for me?”
She gave you a slight smile as you embraced her and kissed her on the cheek as you hurried out the door, greeting Tzuyu as you pulled off and drove to work.
You wiped a tear thinking about how not even next week, you could get that ice cream for her. Bills were piling up and you had to prioritize. That is what you had to do not for yourself, but for her.
“So, do you want your usual flavor or would you like to try something new?” She peered through the window and investigated each flavor. For her, it was more of a new experience to see how many different flavors she could try.
Such an adventurous spirit.
“Mommy, I'd like to try a different flavor. “There's one named Rocky Road,” She grinned as she gazed up at you with her lovely almond-shaped eyes. You smiled and ordered her a small cone and an ice tea for you. On the way out of the shop, you grabbed some napkins.
You looked up as her hand swung in the air, admiring the bright buildings flecked with various artwork and taking in the fresh air as the cool breeze rushed through the city. It was fun, and you were thankfu-
“Oh no, I am so sorry let me help you.” You hadn't known it, but you'd unintentionally stumbled into a grown man and spilled your drink on him.
Your daughter laughed as she approached the stranger to embrace him, but you pulled her back and held her behind you before she could reach him. You felt her hand on your side, but you dismissed it because you wanted to see who it was.
“Please accept my sincere apologies; my daughter is extremely extroverted. I'm sorry, but do I know you.” As he spoke, a small voice leaped out from behind the figure and began giggling at your daughter.
“Hello, Ms., my name is Youngsoon, and Hyejin is my class. And this is my daddy.” He pointed up to the good-looking man if I say so myself. You drew Hyejin from behind you while covering your mouth with your hand.
When the man saw the kids hugging and talking about their days, he laughed and reached out his hand.
“Hello, my name is Seungcheol, and I believe we are meeting for the first time. It's wonderful to finally meet the girl my son keeps bringing up.”
While you sat down to meet with his son, you shook his hand and gave him a napkin to clean himself up. You stood up and held your daughter's hand while you waited to see what would happen.
Your daughter squeezed your hand and begged you to pay attention to her. She whispered in your ear as you bent forward and smiled at her appeal.
Youngsoon had the same facial expression as your daughter. You exchanged a smile and cocked your heads at Seungcheol.
“Would it be okay if we hung out with them today?” You grinned when you looked at her pouty face and saw Youngsoon doing the same to Seungcheol.
“If it's fine with you guys, I don't mind at all. We were on our way to the park.” Both of the kids let out a scream as they marched forward side by side, giggling and laughing as children do.
Tumblr media
“Forgive me, but I'm so embarrassed that I have no idea who you guys are. My daughter is always talking about your son. I find it amusing that we are meeting up after such a long time.” He laughs as you both settled on a park bench, still in view of your children.
“It's the same here; with Hyejin, there's something different every day. Did you guys get ice cream today as well? He told me that you guys do this thing every Thursday.” As you took in his features, you peered into his eyes.
As his curly locks swept over his warm-toned skin, his plump lips accentuated his wide almond-shaped eyes. As you thought about him, a smirk emerged on your lips, and you lost focus in his eyes.
He is a father, his wife must be lucky.
As you and Seungcheol spoke about life and how it was impacting both of you, time flew by as you heard the laughter and cries of the numerous children in the park.
You'd discovered that he doesn't have a wife anymore. She died when youngsoon was just two years old due to a variety of health issues. You're not sure whether it was destiny or just a random ice cream day, but it seemed like you and he was communicating on a deeper level that only single parents could comprehend as the conversations progressed.
However, as time passed, the sun began to set earlier than usual, and the shops began to close. Your heart ached as it yearned for this, someone with whom you could communicate with.
“Daddy, my feet are hurting and I'm getting tired.” You laughed at his answer because Hyejin was in the same boat as him, dozing off by your side. You gently picked her up and held her in your arms while reaching out to Youngsoon with your free arm.
“It was a pleasure to meet you, Youngsoon, as well as your father.” You extended your hand to him, and he firmly shook it. Seungcheol then walked over to where their cars were parked, holding his son in his arms.
You couldn't see it as you both walked over in silence, but you could sense the tension in the air, and something had to be said.
“Why don-“
“We shoul-“
As you slid your sleepy kids into the car seat, you exchanged glances and chuckled. As soon as you've finished, you move over to the driver seat overlooking the door waiting for him to turn around.
What can I say, we weren't exactly friends, but we weren't strangers either. Is it appropriate for me to invite him over for a play date? Is that something that kids still have? Why are you so anxious?
He cocked his head and chuckled at your strange head motions, and a laugh escaped his lips as he waved his hand in front of you.
As you swore internally, a wave of humiliation rushed over your face.
“Before I say something stupid, it was wonderful to meet you, as well as your son, who has had a huge influence on my daughter's life. I'm glad she's kept a smile on her face the whole time. It's difficult when, well, you know. I'd like to hang out with you again... I mean with our kids if you're not busy."
Great job Y/N
He smirked and reached for his phone, which he unlocked and handed to you, motioning you to enter your number.
You checked the time as you exchanged numbers and quickly made a mental note that it was way past Hyejin's bedtime. As you hopped into your car, mentally cursing, you waved a short wave.
Why does it feel like I’m a teenager again?
Tumblr media
You struggled to get all of your belongings into the house whilst looking for the light switch. A light turned on as you yelled at the intruder who did it. A tall figure emerged from the darkness, her brows scrunched as she took some items from your hands.
“You scared me, girl. “What are you doing here?” You noticed Hyejin's droopy neck as she slept through the loud introduction, a trait she inherited from you. Tzuyu smirked and slid Hyejin out of your arms as she put her drink down.
“I hope you didn't forget, Hyejin's project is due tomorrow, and you were supposed to get the materials for it.” A hand flew across your face as you gasped and rushed to the calendar, where you saw her project.
“I thought it was next week, and Hyejin would have told me?” When you realized the time, a sigh escaped your lips; all you wanted to do was take a nice bath and soak away all your worries.
Such a great mom move Y/N.
Tzuyu lightly checked to see if Hyejin was awake, her eyes fluttered as she stretched and rubbed her eyes. Her gaze darted around the room, searching for you. Her eyes fell on your worried expression.
“Are you going to tuck me into bed, Mommy?” You walked up the stairs with Tzuyu, pinching her cheek and telling her to brush her teeth and use the bathroom while you helped her get ready for bed.
A text message came through your phone as you waited for her on the bed; stunned, you quickly opened and read the message.
“I'm not sure whether you're awake or not. However, sleepy Youngsoon just told me that he has a project due tomorrow and that he needs some supplies. Unfortunately, all of the good supplies have run out at my house. Do you want to join me on this late-night trip to Walmart if you're up for it?”
As you answered quickly, a cheerful chuckle rang through your throat.
“So it wasn't just me; my lovely babysitter had just told me that I needed to pick up some supplies. Having a companion would make the journey seem shorter. I'll be leaving in ten minutes to meet you there.”
A more vivacious girl jumped into bed and rushed to your side, hugging your arm and waiting for you to move. It was a family tradition to have a kiss on the forehead and tuck covers, as well as a bedtime story if you were lucky. You had never failed to do that one job for her, no matter what the circumstances were. Not only did it make her happy, but it also brought you closer together.
“I don't want to hurry, but mommy needs to run to the store for a few supplies for your project. That is why Ms. Tzuyu is staying with you until I return. Okay, could you please be a good girl tonight and not cause her any problems?” She kissed your lips with a giggle before returning to her side of the bed and nestling into Tzuyu's embrace.
“I love you, mommy, and goodnight.” You returned the kiss and said a soft "I love you" as I closed the door behind you, you dimmed the lights as you rushed to your car.
Tumblr media
When you both died of laughter, it felt like the world was spinning. You nabbed a cart and headed down the school aisle, debating on whether a hot dog counts as a sandwich.
Seungcheol grabbed some glue from the shelf and tossed it into the cart, laughing as he whizzed down the aisle.
“A hot dog is a sandwich because it has bread and meat.” As you walked down the aisle, collecting materials as you went, you shook your head as you reached the next aisle, searching for construction paper.
“You are aware that a sandwich is made up of three parts: two sides of bread and the filling. There can't be just one side of bread. It's just basic math.” He turned around and waved his hand in displeasure as he shook his head.
As you observed his behavior, you were reminded of the days when you and your husband would go out on spontaneous dates once you were done with work. You yearned for him and the memories he brought with him.
“I'll get the drinks while you go get the popcorn on the next aisle down. Shall we go with tipsy or chill?” As you contemplated what you wanted, he leaned over the shopping cart.
When you looked at his face, a grin crept across your lips. “Why don't we do both? We haven't had much time for ourselves in a while.” “I'm cool with it.”
He took your hand in his and yelled at the top of his lungs as he moved the cart to the next aisle.
“Tipsy it Itsssssss.”
Seungcheol approached you and tapped your shoulder, curious about what had happened.
“Hey, are you good? You've been zoning out for a while.” As you looked down the empty aisle, he cocked his head and waited for your answer.
As you regained awareness, he shook your arms as you rubbed the back of your neck. As he observed your movements, he gave you a thumbs up. A light smile formed on your mouth as you followed him in silence to the checkout line.
As you took out your card and began putting your things on the belt aimlessly, you were already calculating how much it would cost. He shifted his hand around you before you could pay. As you scoffed at him, he grinned and swiped his card.
“Why di-”
“Before you protest, consider it a gift for joining me on this late-night adventure. Don't be worried.” You slapped his arm with a playful slap as you gathered the rest of the bags and loaded them into the carts as you both walked slowly toward your cars.
As you both loaded your bags into the vehicle, the walk to the car was excruciating. You didn't want the night to end, and you didn't know how to keep it going.
You’re acting like a child Y/N, you’re a grown-ass woman!
“So-”
“Do-”
You were the one who spoke first, as you laughed.
“We need to stop doing that, also I'm not sure if you'll be available next week.” But, if you want to invite Youngsoon over for a play date or something similar. I could call my babysitter?”
You fiddled with your hands as you leaned on your foot to relieve some tension, as he nodded his head with a grin on his face.
“I would love that, you know, some single-parent quality time together. Text me the details, and we should definitely do something without the kids!”
“Definitely that's a must.” You were reminded of what your daughter said a long time ago as you stood there watching him.
“I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Mommy.”
Something inside of you began to open up as if the grooves had restocked with enough oil to run again. As you both walked back to your car door, something blossomed in your chest.
You'd be happy to spend the rest of your life with him.
You chuckled as you waved goodbye to him for the second time today, thinking of all the possibilities of this unexpected run-in.
What a great way to finish the day.

Hoops and Love Letters
pairing ; f2l! basketball player! jake x gn reader
genre ; fluff
warnings ; food
summary ; jake, your best friend since you were children has started making your heart beat fast, little do you know, his is beating just as fast...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"yo jake!"
you were sitting on one of the park's benches with your best friend while eating strawberry flavored ice cream he got for you, when you heard someone call your best friend's name.
"jake!"
it was louder this time, meaning the person calling him was coming closer. Suddenly one of jake's friends, sunghoon, came into view trying to catch his breath while he sat down on the bench between you.
well now that was awkward.
he looked between you two, clueless to the situation you were in and asked,
"did I interrupt anything?"
he asked and to that question, your cheeks reddened as you turned to look at jake, noticing how his cheeks were also light crimson as he opened his mouth to answer his friend's question
"n-no you sure didn't" jake stammered. but jake never stammers?? and you just stood there, a little sad that jake answered sunghoon's question negatively and you just stood there, taken aback by jake's answer and by his stammering.
"it doesn't seem like it tho, anyways, heesung needs you in practice, jay was late and he almost got yelled at" sunghoon started talking without getting a breath, almost as if he was rapping.
you searched jake's face for a reaction and he didn't even look surprised by ths situation going on at the school's gym.
"well, y/n, I'll have to go, sadly, however, ill try to return you your book on saturday on our picnic!" he told you while he got his school bag, from the bench you sat on every day after school, and started walking behind sunghoon to the gym.
"I'll be waiting for my book!" you yelled and screamed, happy that he remembered the poetry book he borrowed from you, two weeks ago. you see, your and jake's bond was something unbreakable, being friends and classmates from a very young age and being lucky enough to be able to continue this friendship till now. you started packing your bag and put the cup from the ice cream in the park's trashcan while going to your house. there really wasn't anyone at home however you prepared your table fully and made yourself lunch. you sat down trying to find a boring enough movie so that you'll be motivated to stop watching it and study or catch a nap.
————————♡timeskip♡———————
it was now 7pm on a friday afternoon and you were currently doing your homework so that you didn't have to do them during the weekend, when your computer started alarming you that there was an incoming skype call by jake. it made you instantly smile and you answered his call watching his face brighten once he saw you had picked up.
"hey"
"hi"
"are you doing homework on a friday night?" he asked, while he looked at me as if I was a weird creature.
"yeah, I don't understand your opposition on me doing my homework on a friday night" you said, the fake offended look on your face made jake laugh and that moment it was like you heard an angel laugh.
"have you prepared anything for our picnic tomorrow?"
oh shIT
you panicked
"I swear to god, y/n y/l/n, did you forget about one of the most important days of the month?" it was his turn to act offended now taking a dramatic pose acting as if he was crying.
you were about to start crying because, hoW. COULD. YOU. FORGET. YOUR PICNIC?!?!
"oH HELL NOH, how could I forget our picnic?!" you stated nervously hoping that he didn't notice the panic on your face when he mentioned the picnic.
"great, I was hoping you remembered about it because, well,,, tomorrow's picnic will be extra special, than just a day on the calendar" he said, he seemed nervous and by his sentence you became nervous too, hoping that something joyful will be behind this "extra special picnic"
"YO Y/N YOU THERE?" he yelled and then proceeded to slap his laptop's screen, just to make sure his computer wasn't the problematical one.
"yeah sorry, my laptop started glitching, see you tomorrow at the park!" you yelled at him and ended the call in a hurry.
you sat up from your desk's chair and walked in front of your mirror
"I now have to go down and prepare for tomorrow's picnic" you said to try and convince yourself to go down and prepare however your plan was interrupted when your phone rang, the name of your other best friend lighting up the screen.
"YANG JUNGWON YOU LITTLE MONSTER" you screamed as you picked up the phone.
" yo y/n what is your proBLEM?!"
"YOU OBVIOUSLY"
"what did I do this time bestie, explain to me please"
"well I was about to go prepare for my monthly picnic with jake but you decided that it was a good idea to call me".
"oooh, jake, the guy that likes you but doesn't know how to tell you"
"plEASE, he doesn't like me, we've been friends for a couple years and he sees me as a good friend"
"ok but like, since yOU like him, why don't you speak to him about it?"
at this point you are heading to the kitchen in order to get ready for tomorrow, since hanging up on jungwon wouldn't happen soon.
"if I tell him I might ruin our friendship, won"
"he likes you too tho, even sunghoon noticed!"
"since when do you hang out with sunghoon?"
"since you were too busy going on dates with jake"
"please, we had study meetings"
"yeah call it whatever you want love"
you tried to respond to jungwon but nothing came out of your mouth so jungwon continued,
"anyways, I'm hanging up so you can prepare for your picnic, by the way, wear those brown corduroy pants I got you for your birthday!!"
"yeah fine, I'll make sure to fill you in on what happened won, good night!"
"night y/n!"
with that you went to prepare some quick snacks for tomorrow and also got some of your favorite jellies from a seven eleven nearby, all because they were also jake's favorite jellies.
———————♡timeskip #2♡———————
you woke up by the sudden sound of your alarm, you didn't even remember setting an alarm but you find have time to worry about stuff like this as you wanted to get up and get ready quickly for the picnic.
your phone rang and jake's number lit up your phone's screen.
"yo jake, bro, homie, fella, how you doin" that was the weirdest thing you've ever, like eVER, said in your life.
"Y/N Y/L/N ARE YOU DRUNK THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING?!"
"of course no jakey, it's 11:29 am, the picnic is in two hours "
" uh uh uh- special picnic" jake emphasized special once again.
" oh well, guess I'll take more time to get ready since its spEcial" you said, mimicking the way he said special.
" I swear to our friendship, y/n, if you're not ready by the time I come to pick you up, consider yourself not my friend" he said sarcastically, adding a laugh at the middle of his sentence.
"oh well, it's your lucky day because I have just started getting ready!" you lied, you walked to your dresser and started searching for that one pair of brown corduroy pants jungwon suggested you wear.
"I'm hanging up jake, gotta go get ready, see you at 1 outside my house!" you hung up without giving him a chance to reply.
bingo
you finally found the pants, searching for a shirt now. you found a white blouse you had got last Halloween for a pirate costume but never wore it. It didn't look like a costume shirt anyway, you shrugged and got into the bathroom to take a shower and get ready afterwards.
You were done with your shower now, the time was 12 pm and you had an hour left before jake got to your place to pick you up.
You put on your clothes and matched a pearl necklace (which was, indeed, a gift by jake) with your outfit, you opted for some classic black converse high tops as for the shoe choice, and with that, your outfit was complete.
You headed downstairs to prepare your basket, full with snacks and fizzy drinks, also getting a light blanket with you, just in case.
You heard a car honk from outside and checked the time, it was 12 : 40, twenty minutes before jake should be here to pick you up. The same honking sound was heard again and you headed to the door to see if it was jake by any chance. It was jake indeed, you got your basket, your keys, sprayed some perfume on and left the house, not forgetting to lock the door behind you.
"well hello there, y/n"
you were ready to tell general kenobi literally at his face, the pun must've been intended as you had a star wars movie marathon some days ago.
"hello to you too, jakey"
You both got in the car and jake turned the music up, a song unknown to you playing on the radio. Jake seemed different today, he seemed nervous, something unusual to him.
"is everything okay jake?"
"yeah why?" he responded while he let out a small laugh.
"oh, nothing!"
The drive went by quickly, however jake had taken you to a place you thought you'd never see again, it was the place where you and jake had first met. A park filled with bushes and sunflowers, huge trees and benches along with wooden tables. You were on the verge of tears, left speechless, you opened the car's door, taking your basket and started running around the park laughing loudly. You were feeling truly happy.
Jake was watching from inside the car, deciding to open his door too, taking his own basket, locking the car and started running towards you.
After running around for some good minutes, you sat on bench and left your baskets on a wooden table, starting to set your food in order for your picnic to start.
You had started eating your second sandwich when jake interrupted you, making you put your sandwich down and turning your attention to him.
"yo y/n, do you remember those love letters you kept on receiving last year?"
"of course I do! I've been searching till this day! but what does that have to with our special picnic?"
"well, I'm the one who sent those letters" jake said, lowering his head and starting to fiddle with his hands.
"well, that was a good one!" you started laughing. Noticing the situation jake was in right now, it only meant one thing, "WAit, you're not joking?"
"not really" he said giggling sadly, lifting his stare and watching into your eyes. You extended your arms and reached out to hug him.
"why didn't you tell me?"
"wait, you really didn't know I liked you? The boys kept on telling that my crush on you was too obvious!" he said, looking annoyed by his friends that moment.
"I mean, you did throw a basket ball at me once that had, "let me take you out" all over it but I didn't think you meant thAT TAKING OUT" you said, laughing at the old memory you had remembered.
well, y/n, would you officially allow me to take you out?" he asked, a glowing happy slice on his face when he noticed your emotionless face, "on A DATE, I mean, not with a basket ball!" he added. With that, you burst into laughter and looked at him, showing him your brightest smile.
"of course I'll let you take me out, on a date, jake"

Chapter 5: 3-day free trial Day 1

[masterlist]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 1
A very rare day off. Usually, Sakusa would spend it cleaning his whole house, but this time Kia is around. Does he ask her to help? What does a 30-month old know about cleaning?
The night before, it was chill. Kia slept immediately after eating dinner and bathing, probably because she was tired from the flight. Plus, his parents were there to help him. He starts to think not to let the toddler nap so she’ll sleep immediately.
You are still in Tokyo, processing some papers for work and will arrive 3 days after. Which means, Sakusa has to take care of Kia alone for 3 days. He really has no idea on what to do. You gave him a schedule of Kia’s routines, but he thinks it’s systematically ridiculous. He has no free time at all.
6:30 AM: wake up (don’t let her stay in bed for a long time or you’ll suffer tonight)
7:30 AM: breakfast (she eats solid food and isn’t allergic to anything. she also isn’t picky. just make sure you cut her food into small pieces)
8:00 AM: bath (she loves playing with water. watch her carefully. she might slip and hit her head.)
8:30 AM: household chores (she likes helping with the chores, especially folding clothes and hanging the laundry)
11:30 AM: lunch
1:00 PM: nap time (give her milk. make sure you let her help you with the chores or she’ll not sleep. she has a lot of energy. also, this is your alone time. spend it wisely.)
3:00 PM: wake up. (give her snacks)
7:00 PM: wash.
8:00 PM: dinner.
10:00 PM: sleep.
She’s not as messy as other kids, but she’s still a child, she can’t help it but make mess. Go easy on her.
“Is this how she spends her time?” Sakusa stares at the piece of paper disappointedly. He checks the clock on the wall it’s almost time for Kia to wake up. “Right. Her mom said she’ll call any minute now.”
Sakusa goes to the room and opens the blinds, waking Kia up. She sits up, looking around the unfamiliar room. She sees Sakusa and raises her hands, a sign to lift her up, but he doesn’t understand. “What?”
Kia starts crying, confusing the hell out of Sakusa. He gives her a bottle of milk but she rejects it. She continues to raise her arms, her cries getting louder. Sakusa wants to throw her out of the window, but that would be murder and you will definitely kill him for it.
Kia stops crying then stares at him with teary eyes. They look at each other as if they are competing on a staring contest. And he wins, Kia says what she wants. “Carry.”
“We have to change your diaper first. Then, I’ll carry you.”
“Okay.”
Kia jumps out of bed and runs to the bathroom, Sakusa following behind her in a safe distance. He puts her on the changing station, lying her on her back. He changes the diaper in horror, but Kia is just enjoying the lights in the bathroom.
Not long after having changed her diapers, you call Sakusa. He puts Kia on the high chair, then answers your call. He takes a phone stand and leans his phone on it, so you can talk to your daughter properly. “Mama!” Kia cheers upon seeing your face.
“Baby!” You coo on the other line. “How are you? I miss you!”
‘Already? Pfft. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since you last saw her.’
Sakusa continues to make rice balls. First he makes his, since he is unsure of how much Kia can eat. He puts his finished onigiris aside, then stands behind Kia’s chair to see ask you.
The moment you see him on screen, a blush creeps on your cheeks. He is wearing a loose maroon shirt that shaped his shoulder way too good for your liking. You stare at him without realizing. ‘Has his shoulders always been that broad?’
“Hey, I’m asking you something.” He calls and you snap out of your thoughts. You clear your throat and answer with a hum. He rolls his eyes and repeats his question. “Is this enough rice for Kia?” He tilts the plate of rice, showing it to you.
You act as if you are examining the plate but you are actually too busy staring at his toned and veiny forearms. You nod at him and he leaves the screen again. You pout and forget about Kia who is staring at you. After a while of assessing your face, Kia finally concludes on why you look upset.
“Kyo, go back here. Mama’s sad. She wants to see you, too.”
The room falls silent, and your apartment that is hundreds of kilometers away from them does too. Sakusa, to save you from embarrassment, pretends not to hear Kia’s statement. Then, he hears you speak, “Kia, baby. I have to go to work now. Bye!”
You end the call immediately. Sakusa on the other hand still looks unbothered, but deep down he is smiling like an idiot. But Kia saddens upon seeing the black screen on the device.
“What’s that?” Kia asks out of curiosity and boredom, pointing at Sakusa’s hands that are molding the rice into tiny balls she won’t choke on.
“Your food.”
“What food?”
“Onigiri.”
“Why?”
“What do you mean why?”
“Why Onigiri?”
“What do you want to eat?”
“Onigiri.”
“Then, shut up. You won’t get to eat if you don’t keep quiet.”
“Why should I?”
Sakusa groans, then puts the plate of rice balls down on the counter rather agreesively. Kia’s lower lip quivers, staring at him in guilt. He takes a deep breath in before continuing to shape the ham and cheese as he prays for more patience.
Sakusa places the finished food on her tray, then lifts Kia up of her chair to bring her to the sink. He helps her wash and dry her hands before returning her back to the table. She bows her head, mumbling a soft ‘itadakimasu’ before holding onto her spoon. She attempts to put a piece of carrot on her spoon, but fails miserably.
“Feed me!” Kia announces in which Sakusa responds with a sigh. He leaves his food to feed her. He takes the spoon from her hand and attempts to feed her. He honestly wants to shove it in her mouth, but he doesn’t want a child to die in his house because of choking.
“Don’t make a mess,” Sakusa warns, and she nods. He continues to feed her and she is calm to his surprise. On her last rice ball, Kia looks at Sakusa in anticipation but only to be rewarded by a stare.
Sakusa puts Kia down before he cleans her seat and wash her plate. He continues to eat his and tells her to go to her room. She runs to her room and start playing with whatever toy there is in there. She spots a marker and takes the lid off. She runs to the wall and starts scribbling on it in delight. Sakusa finishes eating and washing with the dishes so he checks up on Kia.
“What are you doing?!” He shouts, seeing the markings on the wall. Kia looks at him in shock, dropping the pen to the ground. She starts crying as Sakusa marches towards her. “Why did you draw on the wall?!”
“I’m sorry!” Kia cries, feeling guilty of what she has done.
“You better be because you just made a mess on my wall!” Sakusa scolds, picking up the pen she just used. He takes the other pens on the table and throws them forcefully in the trashcan. Kia cries even harder which irritates Sakusa. “Shut up!”
Kia stops crying because of his words. “Do you not like Kia?” She asks innocently.
“I don’t like messy children like you,” he answers in a stern manner before he aggressively wipes the ink off the wall with wipes. He looks at Kia, expecting her to cry but she is only staring at the wall.
“I thought papa loves me...” Kia mumbles before sitting down on the floor. Sakusa didn’t hear her words due to the stress that is filling him in. Preoccupied with cleaning, he doesn’t realize Kia staring at the wall unhealthily.
Sakusa finishes and grabs clothes from her drawer and the baby bag you prepared in case they go out. He changes Kia then leaves the room. He places Kia in the highchair again so he can change into his practice clothes.
“I won’t be able to survive being alone with you for anymore time.”
-------
The two enter the gym, Kia garnering everyone’s attention. He instructs her to sit at the bench and not to move unless it’s necessary. Everyone is quiet, confused as hell, and cannot believe what they are seeing. Sakusa Kiyoomi with a child, a child that resembles him way too much.
“Is that your daughter?” Bokuto excitedly asks, the other members are so thankful and ashamed of him for asking the question they all want to ask. “She’s taller than I thought!”
“Did you think she was 1 foot tall or something?” Atsumu remarks, walking closer to the child with Hinata. Kia’s eyes glimmers as she sees them.
She stands on the bench, looking up to them. The volleyball players put their hands on their knees, crouching, to level with Kia’s height. “You’re very tall!” Kia exclaims excitedly.
Hinata blushes at her statement, “I am?” He giggles, lifting Kia up. “You’re so cute!”
Atsumu examines her features silently, glancing at Sakusa to do some comparisons. She smiles at the faux blonde and captures his heart immediately. He clutches on his chest exaggeratedly, making Kia giggle.
“You look like your papa but cuter!” Atsumu coos at her, pinching her cheek.
Kia’s eyes widen in excitement upon hearing the word ‘papa.’ She jumps to Atsumu’s arms, which he luckily catches her. “You know my papa?”
Everyone in the room becomes silent with Kia’s question. Atsumu tilts her head to the side, then looks at Sakusa. He is looking at the court, obviously not paying attention to Kia or what she is saying. “Isn’t he your papa?” Atsumu asks, pointing a finger at Sakusa.
“My mama said papa is tall and handsome with curly hair. He also has black hair and black eyes and fair skin! He is also very tall!” Kia rambles.
Isn’t she describing Sakusa? Everyone in the room thinks.
“But Kyo!” She points at Sakusa who is now staring at her. “He’s a monster!”
Sakusa grabs a volleyball and the team members stop him from hitting Kia with it. He shouts in frustration, leaving the gym. Kia starts crying in fear again and the boys help her quiet down. Atsumu hands her to Hinata before chasing after Sakusa.
Atsumu spots Sakusa at the lockers, sitting quietly on his spot. The blonde sits a bench away from him, giving him enough space. Sakusa looks at him and sighs. “I can’t believe you’re the one I’m talking to.”
“If you prefer to talk with Hinata or Bokuto, I’ll go call them.”
“Please, no. You’re the most sane out of the three.”
“Thanks?” Atsumu chuckles, then waits for Sakusa to say something again. He’s aware of how blunt Sakusa is with his words, but Kia just seem to shut him up. He can’t say anything to her.
“What seems to be the problem?” Atsumu starts, knowing Sakusa won’t say anything if he doesn’t.
Atsumu is seen as asshole by everybody, but he is definitely not a bad friend. Sakusa may not consider him as one, but he does. And he’s more than willing to listen and talk to him.
“Kia. I just don’t really like children.”
Atsumu takes a deep breath in before asking Sakusa a question that can get him killed by the ace. “So why are you trying?”
Sakusa processes his question then laughs. Atsumu is getting scared. He has always seen Sakusa as a psychopath and he is showing signs right now. He is about to flee the room but Sakusa answers him.
“Because I want her mom back.”
But he doesn’t want Kia.
--
After their practice, Sakusa, Bokuto, Atsumu and Hinata decide to eat dinner together. Atsumu lowkey scared for Kia. What if he doesn’t feed her dinner? He’s even thinking of bringing her home until you arrive.
They arrive in Miya Onigiri, the only place Sakusa trusts to dine in. They get seated in the private room, Osamu well-aware of Sakusa’s hate towards crowds. He got surprised about seeing Kia, too, but he didn’t say anything. He gives her a highchair and she thanks him gleefully. He ruffles her hair before helping her up in the chair. After taking their orders, he goes to the kitchen to make it.
Kia sits between Sakusa and Atsumu, while Bokuto and Hinata sit across them. Kia is busy chatting with the boys when Sakusa’s phone starts to ring so he checks it and see that you’re calling. He answers it and hands the phone to Kia.
“Mama!” Kia cheers. “Look! I’ve got new friends!” She shows Hinata and Bokuto on the screen, and your eyes widen. Bokuto quiets down and stares at you in shock as well.
“Akaashi’s cousin!” Bokuto says. “Kia is your daughter too? She’s Omi-kun’s daughter as well!” You chuckle awkwardly until they grey hair boy hits realization. “You said Kia’s father is dead!”
“I never said that!” You reply in defense. Upon hearing your exchange with Bokuto, Sakusa gets bothered. Did you really say he was dead to other people?
“Bokuto don’t shout at my mama like that!” Kia pouts. You call her and tells her to use polite terms with the three since they’re her uncles.
Atsumu laughs at your statement and his deep laugh catches you off guard. Kia shows herself in the camera again and Atsumu is seen too. “We’re at the age that we’re considered as uncles already, huh?”
“Yes, you are.” You clarify and Atsumu scoffs.
“I’m Miya Atsumu by the way,” he introduces and you introduce yourself back. The three of you, with Kia, continue to call as they wait for their food. Atsumu asks questions about you which is annoying Sakusa every time you answer it with ethusiasm. The food arrives so they say their goodbyes, then you end the call as soon as Atsumu says bye, not giving Sakusa the chance to talk to you.
“You can’t use spoon well yet?” Atsumu coos, taking Kia’s spoon. He feeds her as he eats as well, the irritation in Sakusa’s body growing even more.
After eating, it is time to say good bye. And Kia isn’t letting go of Atsumu.
“I wanna stay with you!” Kia cries, clinging onto Atsumu’s neck. Having enough of Kia being way too attached to Atsumu, Sakusa grabs Kia out of the blonde’s grasps, leaving her to cry. She throws punches on his chest which obviously has no effect, but she’s trying okay?
“He’s my papa! Not you!”

➵ your work friend, kuroo, has a tiny favour to ask.

You plonk a black coffee on Kuroo’s desk, shooting him a wink.
He looks awful. Skin a tad more pallid than normal, dark bags under his eyes, hair even messier than usual. You’re almost ready to believe he’d gone on a bender last night, but you know he’s much too dedicated to his work to do something like that on a Tuesday.
He smiles at you, his chin balanced in one of his hands. You glance at the time in the corner of his computer screen. 8:30 AM. You’re not late.
“Thanks,” he nods before taking a sip of his coffee. He scrunches up his nose for a moment, but he manages to swallow it all down. When he’d told you he didn’t actually like black coffee, you’d asked him why he bothered drinking it. He’d told you that the caffeine kick was like nothing else, and he needed it to get through the day.
That was the moment you’d realised that Kuroo Tetsurou was, in fact, a loser.
“You look exhausted,” you observe, looking him up and down. Kuroo usually looked like he’d just rolled out of bed, but you’d just assumed that was a purposeful choice.
“Ouch,” he laughs, raising an eyebrow at you.
“Oh, I’m not being rude,” you dither at him. “I’m concerned.”
“No need to be,” he yawns, scrunching up his nose. “I was just on Kenma’s stream last night.”
You snort. “What, that friend of yours that plays video games for a living?”
Kuroo grins. “That’s the one.”
“How late did you stay up?”
“Oh… like 2 AM,” he shrugs. “That was nothing back in uni, but these days…”
You laugh, shaking your head. What you wouldn’t give for a taste of that youthful neglect for one’s wellbeing. You’re not quite sure when your transition to ‘responsible adult who gets paid a living wage (barely) and who (usually) turns in before 11 PM’ happened, but there’s no going back now.
“Are you hoping to leave this life behind?” You tease, tilting your head at him. “Hoping to become Youtube famous?”
“Oh, absolutely,” he grins. “I’ll earn millions at the height of my career, only to have a humiliating fall from grace when people find out I’m not a very nice person.”
“That’s tragic,” you giggle, turning back to your computer. “Make sure you go out in a blaze of glory for me, okay?”
“Oh, I intend to,” he nods, glancing at you from the corner of his eye. “And don’t you worry, I’ll make myself a very lucrative merch line designed to exploit my followers for all their worth.”
His work phone starts ringing with a vengeance.
Kuroo shoots you a dithering look. You just mouth ‘good luck’ as he picks up the offending object.
“Japan Volleyball Association, sports promotion division,” Kuroo stifles a yawn as he holds the phone to his ear. “How may I help you today?”
You bite your lip as you watch him. He’s nodding and humming – typical fare for a phone call.
“I’m sorry, could you please repeat that sir?” He says with a frown.
He catches your eye, and you take the opportunity to stick your tongue out at him. A grin spreads across his face slowly as he shakes his head.
You tilt your head to the side, wondering what this specific interlocutor was after.
Kuroo gives you that look; the one that said the person on the other end of this phone line was bonkers.
“Forgive me for being so bold, sir, but are you asking me if we’d accept a large sum of money to remove a competitor’s logo from our advertisements?”
You raised your eyebrows at him. That’s certainly a new one.
Kuroo clears his throat. “No, no, sir, I’m not accusing you of anything.”
You can hear some chatter from the other end of the phone, but none of it’s legible.
They go back and forth for a while as you sip your drink, watching as Kuroo’s patience wears ludicrously thin. That late night must be really getting to him.
“I’m sorry, sir, but I’ll have to refer you to someone higher up,” Kuroo sighs, two fingers massaging his temple. “I’m in no position to deal with this in a way you would find acceptable.”
At that, he presses a button on the phone’s interface, officially making this customer ‘not his problem.’
“What was that?” You ask, leaning towards him.
Kuroo rolls his eyes, stretching over the back of his chair. “I don’t know. It’s too early for this…”
You reach over to pat his shoulder. “There, there.”
He chuckles. “It’s only, what? Just past 8:30? I didn’t think I’d get an asshole so early.”
“Maybe god hates you.”
“His loss.”
You laugh, opening your mouth to respond.
Your own work phone rings. Your mood significantly drops.
Kuroo winks at you. “Into the fray.”
You sigh, picking it up. “Japan Volleyball Association, sports promotion division. How may I help you?”
Answering calls, bargaining with sponsors, checking statistics … they may not have been the most exciting of activities, but they were part of a day’s work. It’s not exactly where you saw yourself ending up after university, but you aren’t going to snub your nose at your chance for a steady income.
Sharing a cubicle with Kuroo, at least, made things a bit more bearable.
In fact, he’d helped you settle in. On your very first day, when you were gripped with nerves and doubt, Kuroo had plonked a green tea on your desk with a warm smile. That had become a little bit of a habit, with whoever was slated to get to work last turning up with caffeine for two.
Frankly, he’d terrified you a bit, at first; you feel bad about it now, but when someone was that tall and that… intimidating, you couldn’t help it.
But, he’d disarmed you quite quickly, and willingly offered himself up as your port of call in this new tempest of a workplace. And for that, you would always be grateful to him.
You check the time. 11:15 AM. You turn to your cubicle mate, tapping him on the shoulder.
He looks over at you, one eyebrow raised.
“I’m going to go get lunch. Did you want anything?”
Kuroo spins around in his chair, standing up to full height. You often forgot just how tall he was, the bastard. “I’ll come with you, if you’d like.”
“Uh… sure.”
He tells you about the stream on the short walk to the boba shop, which is just tucked around the corner. Apparently, his friend had managed to raise the equivalent of twenty-one million yen.
“My charm and good lucks account for at least a third of those millions,” he assured you.
You didn’t quite believe that. You had a feeling that it had more to do with that Black Jackals player Kenma was purportedly close to.
Kuroo sighs as he holds the door of the boba shop open for you, ushering you inside. “Ladies first.”
“Thanks,” you mumble, ducking under his arm and into the crowded little store. The cold isn’t enough to drive off the large throng of customers. If anything, it looked more busy than usual. But, more and more people seem to flow through Tokyo as the year’s end draws closer.
The two of you stand in line, huddled just inside the warmth of the boba shop at the end of a long line.
“So,” Kuroo swallows, his gaze particularly interested in the ceiling. “I have… a favour, to ask.”
“I’m not covering shifts for you.”
“Not that,” he shakes his head, digging his hands deep in his pockets. “It’s, uh… it’s a bit more personal.”
You look up at him, blinking. “You sound like you’re asking me to help you commit a murder.”
“Not quite.”
“Not quite?!”
“I just mean that I’m asking you to do something that’s a little morally bankrupt.” He still hasn’t looked directly at you yet.
“Kuroo, you’re going to give me a panic attack.”
“Sorry, sorry,” he shakes his head again. He looks like he’s about to ask you something quite serious; frightening, even. You’re not used to seeing such a solemn look on his face. It scares you.
He takes a deep breath. “Can you pretend to be my girlfriend for the next month or so?”
It takes a moment for the question to properly click in your mind.
“I’m sorry, what?”

Immortal: Chapter 1
A Girl and Her Cat
Tumblr media
Pairing: Javier Pena x reader
Summary: A small town barista meets a handsome Javi.
Rating: G
Author’s note: Hey guys I'm sorry this doesn't have a lot of Javier in it, its really a big set up chapter for the story.
Word count: 2k
1975, a random fall Tuesday
I don't know how it even happened, or how I met him. At the time I was living in a small town in Columbia run by Americans, keeping to myself, not drawing any attention to myself. He walked into my cafe and got a small black coffee. He stayed a while, reading his small novel.
“Hi there, stranger, I got your coffee”, you said as you set down his drink. “Anything else?”
“No ma’am. Thank you”
“No problem”, you went to turn away but you had to know, “Um, hey?”
“Yes?”
“You've come in before.  What's your name?”
“Javier”
“Javier. I'm y/n. Let me know if you need anything. Maybe next time you could try a latte”, he lets out a snort. You go back to cleaning. It was extremely slow today so you got the go-ahead from your boss to close up early.
“Miss?”
You turned around and saw Javier leaning up against his truck with a smile.
You grasp your chest. “You scared me. I didn't notice you there.”
“Were you about to walk home?”
“Yes”
“Would you mind a ride?”
“My apartment isn't that far from here, but thank you I appreciate it.”
“Anytime.”
And like that, you were walking home, enjoying the weather. It was chilly and the leaves were falling beside you everywhere. You didn't mind the ten-minute walk to your apartment. You don't even get in the door before your cat starts meowing at you.
“Avery, give me one moment. I'll feed you I promise.”. You love the hell out of the black cat but the girl is so needy.
You flick off your shoes by the front door, bending down to pet Avery. You walked past her to shake some food into her bowl. With how she rushes to it, you'd think she never got fed. Silly girl. You walk over to the couch and lay out, grabbing the blanket to get comfortable, a few moments pass and your cat hops up to snuggle up to you. You flip on your tv to find something to have in the background and settle on Hawaii Five O. There's something about cops that attracts you so much. You find yourself falling asleep, Avery radiating heat on your stomach.
---
You were woken up the next morning by your alarm clock; another day, another dollar. You were on second shift today so you didn't have to be in until 11. You got up and made yourself toast and eggs, making sure fatso had her food too.
“Pretty girl”, you say scratching her chin and heading towards the door, adding an “I’ll be back later. Byeee”
The walk to the shop today was extra nice. You can smell the aroma of a pumpkin pie as you pass the houses in your neighborhood and hear the sounds of children playing outside. The giggles brought life to the quiet afternoon. As you come closer to the city, the more you hear the sounds of cars passing and smells of bread being baked at the bakery down the street. The bakers wave at you as you pass the front window. You hold up two fingers, gesturing back. Two shops down is Mrs. Rivera trying to hang up plants, struggling to steady herself, AND the hanging ivy pot.
“Here let me help you.”, you say as you come behind her and catch the pot, succeeding in hanging it up on her awning.
“Thank you, sweetheart!”, she says as she wipes her hands on her apron.
“No problem. I have to get going but come by for a latte?”, you ask.
“Yeah. I’ll see you”
And with that, you were back to it. Half a block down and you come to the shop's front door. It dings as you enter.
“You're late”, your boss, Maria, gets on to you.
“Mrs. Rivera needed help again.”
“Uh-huh. Get your butt back there”, she snorts. She's not mad. Thank god.
“Been busy today?”You ask about taking off your backpack and hanging it up. The shop was basically vacant. The only customer you could see was a college kid studying in the corner. You walk around to pick up mugs and empty plates from various tables.
“Not really. The usuals mostly… Oh! A guy was asking about you! He asked if I knew if you got home safe?”, she asked, confused.
“Ah yes, Javier. He offered to take me home last night.”, you say while walking the dirty dishes to the back.
“He’s cute. You should get in there, girl”, she yells to you. “In there?”, you come around the corner and scoff, “I'm not that interested in dating right now.”
“You should. You can't just spend all your free time with your cat and nonexistent characters in your books.”
“Can.” You point out “And will”
“You're only 24, do you really wanna throw away that opportunity?”
You could only muster up an eye roll.
----
The rest of the shift went off without a problem. Maria went home shortly after her talk with you. The next few hours included a couple of customers but mostly some cleaning. Mrs. Rivera actually came to see you, even getting a hot chocolate for her grandson when she got her latte. You hold a conversation with her for a while, talking about her daughter’s new job at the school. Maria said something about that a couple of weeks ago. The rest of the regulars got their usual drinks, only sticking around long enough for their drinks. The clock soon hits 7 pm.
“Another tea?”, you ask the college student in the corner. He’s been here for your whole shift and has gotten two hot green teas with sugar.
“No ma’am. I'm about to leave but I appreciate it.”
‘Alright. Don't be a stranger”, you say, taking his cup and saucer to the back to clean it off. You place it in the strainer to left it air dry. As you are in the back, the customer packed up and left, leaving the shop empty.
You walk past every table, wiping it down and stacking chairs on top, then grabbing the broom. You quite enjoy the quiet chill night, humming a simple tune. The night offers an array of noises through the open door: Grasshoppers chirping and the soft whistle of the breeze. You finish sweeping and put up the broom. “The tips were pretty good today”, you think, pushing the money into your pocket, removing your apron, locking up, and heading home.
----
You had Thursday off and planned to spend it accordingly. You slept until you couldn't anymore, got up, and fed Avery, offering extra pets to the needy cat. She snuggles up to you on the couch, laying in the space in front of your stomach. Your newest interest? Murder mysteries. So you are relaxing on the couch reading Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile.
You get pretty far into the book before hearing a knock at your door. Weird. Then walk to unlatch the door, swinging it open.
“Uh... hello?”, you questioned the man in front of you. He’s standing there with his hand to the back of his neck, looking nervous
“Hi. Umm, I'm new to building. I live across the hall. I’m Anthony”, he reaches his hand out. You take his hand and shake it.
“Y/N”, you respond, smiling.
“Nice to meet you, Y/N”
“Would you like to come in for some coffee? I just put on a fresh pot”, you invite.
“Yeah, that sounds nice.”, his face sparks up in happiness. He takes your invitation and walks into your apartment, you close the door behind him.
‘Wow. Nice apartment. How long have you been living here?”
“Eh, a while”. Boy, you have NO idea.
He sits down at your dinner table and you bring over two coffee mugs.
“Cream? Sugar?”, you ask.
“Yes. Both please”, he responds and you hand him the containers of cream and sugar.
“Just moved here?”
“Yeah. From Arizona. The owner told me that you're one of the only Americans renting here. Thought I might come by and say hello.”
“Arizona, huh?”
“Yeah. I used to live in Georgia when I was a young girl but I’ve been around the world a lot. Been a while since I’ve been in the United States”, you drift off for a second but reel it in. “ Where in Arizona are you from?”
“Tucson. Wasn’t a bad place to live but I went to college for a major in the Spanish language. I wanted to visit places where I could hear the different dialects and see the different cultures. Thus, I am in Columbia.”
“Ah, you see I just wanted to see the world. I’ve been almost everywhere”
‘What was your favorite place to visit?”, he asks, fully focused on the conversation and not realizing Avery’s furry body rubbing against his shins. She meows. “Oh, well, hello there pretty girl. What’s your name?”. He reaches down to pet her back.
“That’s Avery. But back to your question, I was living in Greece for a while and I just adored the blue waters and sandy beaches.”
He takes a sip of his coffee and asks, “So what brought you here?”
“Need a change of scene. I had a friend who lived here but she passed away a couple of years ago”, you reply back nonchalantly, shrugging your shoulders.
“Oh, im so sorry to hear that. Not too pry but we’re you close?”
“Yeah, We knew each other for a while.”
“How’d she die?”, he asks further
“Old age”, you let slip.
“Old age? he responds surprised.
“Uh... yeah. A family friend.”, you try to make up a better story to keep suspicion off of you.
That conversation kind of ended before it started, instead opting for a conversation about Anthony’s studies in places like Cuba and Spain. The talk circled around to different places you’ve visited, Rome being a topic that seemed to trail on and on. The sun outside seems to start to set.
“I’ve got to get going but it was nice to meet you, Y’N”
“You too, Anthony. Let me know if you need a cup of sugar or anything”, you say following him towards your door. He steps through and across the hallway to his front door. When he shuts his door, you follow suit. You turn around and you can feel Avery’s judging eyes on you.
“I know, I almost blew my cover”, you tell your feline friend. She meows.
-----
You weren't wrong when you told Anthony you’ve been living in Columbia for a while. The problem is his definition and your definition of “a while” were completely different. The truth is you lived in Columbia for 40 years and in this town for about 20. You didn’t age. The only person who could possibly know is Mrs. Rivera but she is very good at minding her own business. You were one of the only ones who came to her husband’s funeral a year ago. You’re practically family. The town’s oldest residents have passed and the owners of the apartments change every couple of years. The rent is paid in cash and the tenets come and go. Every couple of decades you move to another small town in another country.
You lived a normal life but you didn’t know your parents. You lived in the orphanage until you were 18. It was then you took up a job, reading in your spare time, and traveling when you could. You didn’t even realize your immortality until you were 40 looking 20. And then 50 looking 20. You did try to date but soon came to realize that you’d outlive them, leaving a trail of broken hearts. You were pretty sure you were incapable of love. 80 years old and not prepared for what happened next.
Javier Pena was about to change your life.

Yoongi saw the look in your eyes shift from soft curiosity to sheer panic. He felt the pit of his stomach fill with guilt. He shouldn't have slept with you; sure, the two of you would still have this problem, but no one would've had reason to find your shoes. You wouldn't have had reason to leave them behind.
He'd felt betrayed, he'd felt lonely, he'd felt unloved by those he wanted to love him most. But, that was no excuse to sleep with the first attractive girl he found.
"Have you told Bang PD yet?" Namjoon asked, his demeanor calm, but Yoongi could see the slight shock cross over his features, causing his thick lips to pout and his chin to jut out.
Yoongi shook his head.
"I'll call him," Namjoon said. The leader placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder. He blocked Yoongi's view of you. He worried in those few seconds you were blocked from his view that you would collapse into Namjoon's chest and cry the tears meant for him. The tears because of him.
Namjoon left the room, leaving Yoongi alone with you. He tried his best not to focus on the way your tank top hugged your chest and exposed the hickeys he'd left the night before and that Namjoon probably noticed it too.
"You look tired," Yoongi said. "We can't do anything until tomorrow anyway. Try and get some sleep."
You nodded and Yoongi wasn't sure if you were just trying to reassure him or yourself. He remembered the way you'd fallen asleep long before he did. The way you'd fit against his body; how it felt like two puzzle pieces joining together for the first time. He blinked away the thoughts and tried to focus back down on your eyes.
"We'll pay them off," Yoongi said. "We'll make sure nothing comes of this."
---
Jihee (9:00 am): Are you all right?
Jihee (9:05 am): I heard you're in the hospital
Jihee (10:01 am): None of your members are texting me back
Jihee (12:31 pm): Baby, the news is reporting something about your soulmate? What happened last night?
Jihee (2:43 pm): Yoongi! Please respond to me! I'm worried
Jihee (5:12 pm): Yoongi...what I did last night...what happened was all a mistake...
Jihee (5:12 pm): I still love you
Jihee (6:00 pm): The news said you were released hours ago! Respond to me!
Jihee (8:20 pm): Yoongi, I miss you
Jihee (9:30 pm): I know I don't deserve you. But, please just tell me you're okay
Jihee (11:50 pm): Goodnight. Love you.
---
"Baby," you moaned. Your hands slipping beneath Yoongi's shirt. They were cold, but he still loved the way they moved over his stomach and chest. Your fingertips grazing over his skin, a fingernail occasionally catching and causing him to squirm.
His hands were in your hair, messing it up and causing it to form mountain ranges as his fingers hiked the peaks and valleys. He loved the way it felt between his fingers, soft and light.
Your lips moved from his and down to his neck where your lipstick stained his skin. He kept his grip on your hair, feeling it tug slightly as you move downward. He helped you slip his shirt off as your lips connected with his chest.
"You don't have--"
You silenced him by tugging on the waistband of his jeans and rubbing your thumb over the button, teasing him slightly.
"I want to," you responded, unbuttoning his jeans.
Yoongi tightened his grip on your hair, trying not to focus on the way your lipstick was smeared above your lips. He could already imagine the way they'd look...
His head lulled back and his fingers loosened.
---
Yoongi awoke. He was covered in sweat and ran his hand through his hair. He glanced down at his phone: 6:41 am. He sighed and headed to the bathroom.
He slapped himself softly, trying to stop the thoughts that continued to cross his mind. He didn't have feelings for you, it was simply lingering from he slept with you. Nothing else.
He wasn't going to deny he was attracted to you, he wouldn't have gone back to your apartment otherwise, but he felt nothing romantically for you. Yoongi knew the attraction would continue and probably only get worse, but he had to fight it. The last thing he wanted to do was break either of hearts more than they already were.
Yoongi turned on the shower, the water colder than usual.
---
You stood in Yoongi's studio where he kept his computer. You'd suppressed your laughter at the ridiculous amount of hoops you'd had to jump through in order to enter. A doorbell, black curtain, and two doors. You respected the fact he took his work seriously though. The wall full of awards and trophies he'd won, a few even separate from BTS.
There was a couch in the corner, but you were too anxious to sit. You just wanted your shoes back and whoever took them to get their money and leave you alone. You were thankful your name hadn't been released and the only other person who knew the full truth was Eunji.
"There's many of us trying," Yoongi said. "Me, Namjoon, our managers, other people at the company. One of us will get them."
You nodded and watched as the countdown on the auction neared two minutes to the end. There weren't many bids, but the shoes were somehow already over 300,000 won ($276 USD). You'd brought your knitting needles and some yarn and mindlessly knitted.
"What are you making?" Yoongi asked, a small smile breaking out across his lips. It was tiny and barely recognizable. You weren't sure if he pitied you or if simply trying to break the tension.
"Nothing in particular," you said. "I just need something to keep me busy."
Normally, when you went in without a plan, it turned out as a scarf. You bit you lip as the timer hit a minute.
Yoongi saw your gaze shift to his screen and he readied to enter his bid as close to the end as he could. He entered one million won ($920.00 USD) and hovered his finger over the enter button.
"That's too much!" you said.
"No one will outbid it."
"I know," you said. "But I feel bad. I shouldn't have forgotten them in the first place."
The timer hit twenty seconds. Ten seconds. Yoongi waited just a few more seconds wanting to time it just right.
You heard a scream and a crash and almost simultaneously an error message appeared on Yoongi's computer. Please connect to Wi-Fi.
"Shit," Yoongi said. "Jimin!"
You followed Yoongi to the living room, leaving the partially started scarf behind. You saw Jimin and Jungkook crowded around the router working to connect the cord back into it.
"Did you trip over it again?" Yoongi asked, his voice breathy and exasperated.
"Sorry," he said. "I'm not used to it."
Yoongi sighed and turned back to you. His dark eyes looked down at you apologetically and he sat down on the couch, pulling out his phone.
"I'll try and see if I can see who won."
---
"It looks like they're going to have to come out and fix it," Namjoon said, hanging up the phone. "We won't have internet until then."
The members groaned.
Jungkook walked into the kitchen and brought back a case of beer, a smirk plastered on his face.
"Let's play a game," he said. "To welcome Sumi to the dorm."
"What game?" Namjoon asked.
"Answer or drink," he said. "On your turn, someone asks you a question and if you don't want to answer it, you have to drink."
Everyone agreed and sat in a circle. Yoongi sat on one side of you and Hoseok on the other side. Your knee brushed Yoongi's and you felt a small pang in your chest as you pulled away.
"All right, we'll go in order of age. Jin, you're up first."
You didn't really pay attention to the questions. You'd fall somewhere towards the end. Between Jungkook and Taehyung.
Jin answered the question. He didn't seem like the type to be embarrassed easily, a quality you admired in the eldest.
---
"Yoongi," Jungkook said. "Your turn."
The room stayed silent. No one had a question for the boy and he couldn't help but smirk slightly. However, Taehyung meekly raised his hand.
"What happened with Jihee?"
Yoongi cussed to himself. He knew she had been texting the other members about him. The other members would always consult him first before telling her anything when it was obvious he wasn't talking to her.
"She cheated," Yoongi answered simply.
The other boys' eyes widened and they nodded. However, it wasn't their gazes Yoongi felt boring into him. It was yours. He could feel your eyes staring at his profile.
Yoongi had been careful the night he met you. He managed not even to tell you his name. He'd only mentioned he'd recently gotten out of a relationship. He figured you didn't need to hear his sob story. Besides, he planned on keeping Jihee's betrayal a secret. Just as she wanted. The only people he could trust with the truth were his members.
But, you deserved to know the truth. It was unfair to keep you completely at a distance, especially when he'd overheard everything about your ex.
Yoongi noticed you drinking, you'd already cracked open another can by the time it got Namjoon. He felt a twinge in his chest. Yoongi quickly suppressed it, your drinking habits were none of his business. And based on the way Eunji talked the night at the bar, it didn't sound like you drank much. Only when your heart was broken.
"Sumi," Jungkook said. "Your turn."
Again, the room fell silent. No one knew Sumi well enough to ask her such a personal question. But, then again, everyone was tipsy, or in a few cases, already drunk.
"How's Yoongi in bed?"
Everyone except for Yoongi and you laughed.
"Seriously?" Yoongi asked.
He knew it was the alcohol that asked the question, but it was still inappropriate. He didn't want you to have to drink. Your eyes were glazed and your cheeks rosy.
Yoongi reached over and drank for you, crumpling the can when he finished.
"Move on," he said. "It should be your turn, right, Jungkook?"
"Wait," you said. "I didn't answer."
Everyone turned to look at you. It was obvious you were too drunk to notice that Yoongi had technically already drank for you.
"He's good," you answered. "Better than my ex and I hate that cause..."
You drifted off not noticing the seven stunned faces staring at you.Your words slurred, but they hung in the room. Your eyelids drooped and your head lulled forward into your chest.
"I think it's time for bed," Namjoon said, standing up and helping you stand. He threw an arm around you and led you down the hall towards your bedroom.
Despite the fact that the situation was perfectly appropriate, Yoongi still felt a small pang of jealousy. He knew he shouldn't and that it was all the soulmates thing, but that didn't stop his fists from clenching.
"She probably won't remember this in the morning," Yoongi said. "Don't remind her."
Yoongi swallowed the rest of his drink and left the room on the pretenses of being sleepy--which he was--but he also didn't want anyone to see the blush come to his cheeks.
---
You awoke the next morning with the worst headache you'd ever had. You clutched your forehead and glanced at the time: 10:30 am. You sighed.
You spotted your knitting things from yesterday placed on top of the dresser. You didn't remember fetching them from Yoongi's studio, but then again, you barely remembered anything after Jimin knocked the Wi-fi out.
"All I drank was beer," you muttered to yourself.
You weren't known for being a lightweight causing you to wonder just how much you'd drank the night before.
As you squirmed you felt something soft move in the crook of your arm. You looked down and saw Kitty. You smiled at the stuffed cat and her droopy eye.

Chapter 8 - Lighthouse
Tumblr media
“You are distracted today” Cooper voice reached your ears as you missed the shot for the third time, you tilted back your head and sigh, your grip getting tighter in the golf club “everything ok?”
“Sorry” you huffed “I just can’t stop thinking about it” you glance at him while he was putting another ball for you.
“And for that you mean the kegger from two nights ago?” he stands next to you “yeah” you replied while getting in positions your eyes glued to the little white ball “what happened?” he asks as you shoot this time hitting the ball “good”
“Lane didn’t tell you?” you turned at him and he shook his head “well first Rafe and Liam were acting like idiots but that’s not a surprise, then I was with JJ and he went looking for beers and next thing I I know he’s fighting with Liam”
“Didn’t know you were friends with Maybank” he said frowning his brows.
“I’m not” you said almost immediately “well I was or I still am, I don’t know” you shrug.
“And that’s why you are still upset? Because the fight?” his voice was exasperating calm.
“Well not only that” you started, trying to find a way to say it without being awkward “Liam was a jealous boyfriend and he thinks that you…” you say and Copper scowls, not getting what you meant “he thinks that you and I...”
“Oh!” he interrupted; you could feel your cheeks hot and looked away.
“Well not only you, he also thinks that about me and JJ” you added “And I’m mad because he practically screamed that so probably half of the island thinks that too”
“Oh I see” he nodded “well maybe what you need is a weekend on a beautiful boat in the middle of the ocean” you chuckled “you know, to leave your problems behind and pretend everything is ok” you looked at him, both of you smiling “did you asked your parents?” you shook your head “well think about it, it can be fun” he placed his hand in your shoulder “thank you” you said as a grin covered his lips “well let's go back to the lesson”
An hour later Cooper was parking his car in front of your house; you got out and said goodbye. Inside was oddly quiet since you knew your parents were home, you walked around the floor and just when you got to the living room you realized the rumor outside. You saw your mom and dad sitting at the table with another couple, from the distance you couldn’t recognize them, you walked towards them trying your best not to be noticed but failed when your mom saw you.
“Y/n you arrived!” she said happily “come here” you obeyed her and got closer, and recognized the couple from midsummer, they were important people but you could remember the last name.
“Let me introduce you my daughter” your dad said “y/n these are the Cameron’s” Cameron! You remembered “but wait aren’t they” “I think you know his son Rafe and his sister…” your dad stopped trying to remember her name.
“Sarah” you said “yeah I know them” you looked at the couple with a smile on your face “nice to meet you”
“Nice to meet you” the two replied.
You sat there a couple of minutes but escaped to your room as soon as possible. You put on a movie to distract yourself but the sudden hunger didn’t let you concentrate so you went downstairs for something to eat, it was still early only 1:15 pm, you grabbed some leftover from yesterday and heated them, just to go to your room and eat while you watch the movie. When the movie ended you peeked through your window and saw an empty backyard, they were gone. You went down to the kitchen and saw your parents there, and talked about how your lesson was, of course, you didn’t say anything about the four missed shots.
“There’s something I wanted to ask you” you said and they exchanged looks for a second, your dad nodded indicating that you could continue “the Millers, Lane parents, invited me to spend the weekend with them in their boat” you said as you felt your body felling with anxiety waiting for their answer.
Your parents looked at each other again “where are they going?” your mom asked.
“I understood that they just wanted to take it out not that they were planning on going somewhere” you explained.
“Oh well I don’t have a problem with that” your mom spoke and turned to look at your dad “me neither” you couldn’t stop the big smile forming on your face “but you have to keep us informed about everything” your dad spoke.
“Of course” you nodded quickly a couple of times “thank you” you said and hugged them. Back in your room, you decided to text Lane to give her the news.
“What do people pack to spend the weekend on a boat?”
What you received as a response was a voice from Lane screaming from happiness.
When you stepped out from the so-called boat that was as big as a house for the first time in 2 days you sigh in relief as you felt the earth on your feet.
“Oh I had so much fun!” Lane said wrapping an arm around your shoulders “we have to do that again” you agreed with her.
You spent the weekend soaking in the sun in the morning and playing pool or watching movies with the two brothers during the night, it was the most fun you had since the night of midsummer. Cooper and his dad taught you how to fish and Lane taught you how to drive the jet ski, but one drive was enough for you. Your favorite night was the last one, they had planned a fancy dinner of which the only warning was to bring a pretty dress but it all ended gloriously with the three of you playing karaoke and laughing your lungs out. Of course that after this weekend you were more close to Lane than ever, you slept in the same room even if there were to spare, and with Cooper too, you hanged out with him all day, the first impression he gave you at midsummer was completely erased and changed with this new version of a fun and sweet Cooper.
They drove you home almost not wanting you to leave them. You walked inside and greeted your parents that were already waiting for you, you had dinner together and you told them everything about your weekend. You went to bed early literally falling asleep as soon as you relax your body in the bed.
The next day after you did your morning routine you texted Sarah, she texted you while you were away and you promised to let her know when you arrived. She answered minutes later.
“Let’s go for something to drink later, I’ll pick you up at 11” she said.
You went outside and sat in one of the couches from the backyard with your book from your summer read. The time flew by and before you knew it Sarah texted you.
“I’m here”
You grabbed your things and went outside. When you opened the car door Sarah glanced at you with surprise “oh my god who is this tanned goddess that it’s getting inside my car” she almost screamed, making you laugh “you are gorgeous”
“Thank you” you replied smiling.
She drove until a cafe shop minutes away, you two sat at one of the tables outside and ordered a soda, and chatted as your drinks arrived right away.
“So how was your weekend?” she asked and you proceed to tell her the same thing you told your parents, she listened to everything you said and made a few comments here and there “what about you? How was your weekend?” you asked.
“Oh well you know, the usual stuff” she started. After almost an hour of talking and your drinks over from a while ago she said something that got your attention “my dad and rose are planning an end of the summer party, they are inviting all figure 8”
“Oh maybe that’s why they were at my house the other day” you said most to yourself connecting the dots. Sarah continued talking until her phone buzzed on the table, she read the message and replied fast.
“Are you free for the rest of the day?” she asked and you nodded “because John B is inviting us to spend the day at his place, maybe eat something and watch a movie or light up a bonfire outside” she said.
“Yeah that’s sounds fun” you grinned at her.
“Perfect, let’s pay so we can go”
Five minutes later you were already in Sarah’s car driving towards John b’s place. When you arrived the house was curiously quiet, Sarah guided you inside to find John b sitting on the couch scrolling on his phone, he glanced up and his eyes got brighter when he saw Sarah, he got up almost running and hugged her as if he had spent days without seeing her.
“Hi y/n” he said to you and offered you a hug too “my god you are so tan it’s almost like you have been living all your life here” he teased making you laugh. You three sat on the couch to talk, ten minutes later you heard the van parking outside and the doors being closed, John B walked towards the front door but stopped to glance back at you with widened eyes “shit I forgot to tell you that JJ is coming too”
“Don’t worry I imagined that” you say calmly.
Pope and Kie got in the kitchen and stopped almost immediately when they saw you “Hi girl!” Kie screamed and threw herself to you for a hug; you wrapped your arms around her giggling. When she let you go it was time for Pope to hug you. The two of them also complimented you for your tan making you blush.
“Where is JJ?” John B asked.
“I’m here” the boy screamed from the door, to busy looking at his phone, he entered the kitchen and glanced up stopping abruptly when his eyes laid on you, apparently no one told him you would be here either, it took him two seconds to get back to normal “Hi” he said shyly, his hand scratching the back of his neck.
“Hi” you replied, the other four looked in between you two.
You all seated across the tiny living room, chatting and laughing, you tell for the third time how your weekend went and heard about theirs, JJ was unusually quiet but you noticed the quick glances he threw at you, a couple of times you locked stares and for your surprise he was the one that looked away. At some point in the evening, John B stood up and went to the kitchen to grab snacks and beer, and the six of you were seated there for who knows how much time. When JJ opened the last can of beer, Sarah stood up and went with John B and Pope to buy more, Kie stood up too, to clean around and you followed her, JJ stayed still seating on the floor, you offered to throw out the garbage and walked outside. JJ whispered something in Kie’s ear and she nodded, when you came back the house was almost empty, almost because JJ was the only one inside, you saw Kie rocking herself in the hammock, and glanced over JJ that was cleaning the dishes.
“Need help?” you asked from the distance.
“Mmm yeah if you want you can dry them” he offered and you nodded, standing next to him with the cloth in hand. You felt your chest tight and chewed the inside of your cheek knowing that this was all in purpose, anxious expecting for him to talk.
JJ felt no different, his hands slightly trembling but he did his best to keep them steady, and not noticing his right feet was now bouncing against the floor, desperately trying to find something to say “you are tan” as the words slip from his mouth he mentally slapped his face “fucking idiot” he thought “I mean you look good, not that you didn’t look good before, it's different” he rambled and shut his eyes.
“Thank you” you mumbled biting your lower lip to avoid the laugh to escape from your mouth. You finished the dishes in silence and turned your heels to find Kie outside.
“Wait” JJ spoke trying to catch your hand with his wet one, making you stop “I Mm… I wanted to apologize” he stuttered, his voice oddly low.
“You already did” you remarked, carefully nor to sound mad.
“I know… and I really mean it” he said “I… know I was an idiot” he scratched the back of his neck again.
“Yeah you were” you agreed, he looked up finally meeting your eyes, and you felt the air leave your lungs, your eyes softened at his sight “I forgive you” you said as JJ let a huge sigh out and a grin appeared on his lips.
“Thanks” he said, he felt a weight disappear from his shoulders “Too soon for a hug?” he asked his voice calmer than before, you chuckled and shook your head slightly opening your arms, and he smiled and pulled you into a hug.
You two went outside to keep Kie company, she smiled at you when she saw you smiling and giggling with JJ. You sat there waiting for the others to arrive, the air around you felt lighter and JJ felt that too. When the others arrived with more beer you three shouted cheering, it didn’t take them much to realize that things were back to normal between the two of you, mostly because JJ was now speaking louder and laughed a lot. The day went like this and when the time arrived the boys lighted up a bonfire. Sarah couldn’t stay the night and you took the opportunity to go home with her.
“Bye guys” you said from the porch.
“Wait” JJ stopped you “we are going surfing tomorrow, do you want to come?”
“Sure” you nodded “I don’t surf though, but see you guys tomorrow then”
You woke up the next day expecting Sarah’s message to go to the beach, by 9 you were ready to go, seated on the couch scrolling to your phone. When the notification of the message appeared you practically jumped to the front door, your mom screaming at you not to forget to put on sunscreen, you shut closed the door and jogged to Sarah’s car with your backpack bouncing, Kie was there too. The ride to the beach was fun, music blasting through the speakers and windows rolled down, catching every one glare. She parked in front of the beach; you helped Kie with her stuff as she carried a bag full of sandwiches; you saw the guys in the distance heading to the water, Sarah screamed at them but they were too far to hear her, you three put your towels on the sand next to the one from the boys. You took your shirt off and sat with your arms on your knees and your sunglasses on, looking towards the water at the three boys they were amazing, but you had to admit that JJ was better, he never fell, it was like he was born for it, and of course, he looked amazing while doing it so you just enjoyed the view. Kie palmed your shoulder with a beer and you accepted it. Minutes later you hear the laugh of the boys closer and you turn around, they were walking back towards you three, you smiled at them, and taking advantage of your dark sunglasses you let your eyes linger in JJ’s body, maybe more than you should.
“Good morning girls” the three hummed making you laugh. John B and Pope proceeded to hug their girls; JJ sat next to you and gave you a shy smile that you returned.
“Hi” he spoke.
“Hi” you replied “you are good” you stated shyly, he turned at you confusion in his eyes “surfing, I was watching you”
JJ felt his chest swell, proud of himself, he knew he was good but hearing it from you gave him satisfaction “Thank you” he beamed “I can teach you if you want”
“Don’t worry I’m good at land” both of you chuckled.
The other four joined the conversation and you stayed there for almost an hour until you suggested going into the water, well not suggested, you stood up and took off your shorts, JJ not missing any move you made. You looked at the group seating in front of you, your mouth never asked the question but they stood up as an answer, John B pushed JJ and started running toward the water, followed by Pope, and JJ that shouted and ran. Sarah huffed and rolled her eyes “boys” she said before she started running taking you and Kie by surprise, you two ran behind Sarah to the water, giggling and splashing. The water was cold against the heat of your body, and it arrived fast at your chest, you swam until your feet couldn’t touch the sand under them.
“Though you were scared of deep water” John B said.
“Only if it’s dark” you corrected.
You lay in the water, floating, your eyes closed at the sky, you heard the splashing around you. You stayed there listening to them talk, smiling to yourself.
“What are you thinking about?” you heard JJ’s voice talking to you.
You looked at him “nothing, I’m just happy” you said.
“Just happy” he repeated grinning.
You walked back to the shore with JJ following you closely; you two were the last to get out of the water. He smiled as he glared at you dry your hair and body and sit next to Kie, his eyes meet yours for a second and softened as the light pink tinted your cheeks and looked away. You were talking, all of you were talking but he focused only on your voice and the way the words sound from your lips, how you wrinkled your nose when someone said something you didn’t like, or the little crinkles by your eyes when you smiled. His trail of thought was interrupted when Kie handed everyone the sandwiches she brought, the meal was surprisingly quiet just some comments here and there, for the time you were all done you were talking with the girls while John B and Pope talked about who knows what, nothing they say could keep JJ’s eyes away from you, unless until John B threw JJ his shirt in his face.
“What?” JJ asked turning around at his friend.
“What?” he mocked JJ “we are trying to talk to you here”
“Well what do you guys want?”
“I have to help my dad in the morning and wanted to know if you two want to come with me” Pope spoke
JJ nodded and his eyes traveled back at you, for his surprise he meets your eyes that were already looking at him, he beamed shyly, as you looked away. All conversation stopped when a phone started buzzing in a backpack, you stood up knowing it was yours and pick up the call, walking away from the group.
“Everything ok” John B asked when you came back.
“Yeah it was Lane” you explained “I have plans with her too today” the five nodded as you put your shorts and shirt back on “she’s coming for me” JJ felt slightly disappointed that you weren’t going to stay all day.
Not even five minutes later Lane’s car parked in front of the beach, you grabbed your stuff and said goodbye to everyone with a hug, and walked towards the car. The driver’s seat window rolled down and you frowned looking at Cooper instead of Lane, he got out of the car and opened the back door for you at what you laughed loudly. All smile disappeared from JJ’s face and his hands became fists so tight that his knuckles were white, he scoffed at the sight of you hugging Cooper and all his friends noticed it.
“Look at JJ all jealous” Kie teased bringing everybody’s eyes on the boy.
“I’m not jealous” he denied.
“My god, stop denying it!” John B huffed “you like the girl admit it”
“I don’t” he answered making everyone rolls his eyes at him “whatever” Kie mouthed.
Lane was in the passenger seat, and practically threw herself to the back for a hug “I missed you” she said “after a whole weekend with you I don’t want to leave you” you laughed at her hear turning back the hug.
“Where are we going?” you asked once she let you go.
“I don’t know I was thinking maybe we can grab something to eat and watch movies later” she offered.
“Uh I like the plan” you agreed
“What if we go home and order some pizza for the movie?” Cooper suggested and you both agreed immediately “How was the beach?” he asked you.
“Fun, the water was amazing” you replied.
You arrived at their house and as you walked in Cooper called the pizza place while you and Lane choose some movies to watch. “Twilight?” Lane suggested but Cooper screamed “No” from the other side of the house.
“Spiderman?” you asked.
“Which Spiderman? There are three” Lane added “Toby” Cooper screamed closer “What do you girls want in your pizzas?” he asked, “Pepperoni” Lane screamed “Just a margherita” you said.
Lane guided you to the movie room as she called it, Cooper arrived seconds later and started the movie. Half an hour later the doorbell rang. Cooper came back with the three boxes of pizza, you two cheered up and started eating. For the second movie pizza was over, but Lane went looking for ice cream in the kitchen. At the end of the third movie it’s was already dark outside and Lane was lightly snoring next to you, you looked at her and chuckled. Cooper stood up and turned off the tv.
“My butt is plain” he said massaging it.
“My back hurt” you complained as you stood up and stretched.
“We are too old to sit for more than three hours” Cooper and you chuckled.
“Would you mind take me home?” you questioned “I mean I was going to ask Lane but…” you said pointing at her.
“Of course, no problem” he said.
You followed him to his car. The ride was quiet, music played low in the speakers, as he tapped the steering wheel at the rhythm of the music. He parked in front of your house and gave you a quick glance, his hands got clenched the steering wheel for a second as you glanced at him.
“What are you doing tomorrow?” he asked without looking at you.
“Mmm nothing” you replied “why?”
He stayed quiet for a couple of seconds looking for the right words “do you… want to go to the lighthouse? We can grab something to eat and talk”
“Yeah I would like to”
He let go of a tiny sight and looked at you whit a smile “See you tomorrow then” you smiled back at him and got out of the car.
You got into your room and decided to call Amy; you haven’t talked to her for a couple of days now. She answers and you two talk about everything that had happened in your lives lately. You told her about JJ and that things were ok between you two, everything was normal until she screamed in your ear.
“You are going on a date with Cooper?!”
“What? No! We are just going for something to eat” you explained.
“Well y/n that’s a date”
“No it’s not” you fight back.
“Isn’t this the guy his sister told you he liked you?”
“Well yeah…”
“And you spend the weekend with him and his family” she continued “yeah…” you rolled your eyes “and now he invited you to go eat, the two of you alone” she remarked “yeah…” you huffed “He asked you out on a date!”
“Oh my god” you said as you sat on your bed “he asked me out… my best friend’s brother asked me out”
“Careful there I’m your best friend” she said making you chuckled.
“What am I going to do?”
“What do you mean? You go to that date and have fun!” she demanded “it's a pretty place?”
“I don’t know”
“Well they have money I’m sure it’s a pretty place, what are you going to wear?” she questioned.
You keep talking for a couple of hours, she made you sent her pictures of your clothes and helped you choose something decent for tomorrow. Before you went to sleep you checked your phone one last time and saw a message from Cooper.
“I didn’t ask you what time”
“4?” you replied.
“Perfect, see you tomorrow”
You unconsciously smiled at your phone before locking it; you left it on the nightstand and went to sleep.
The next day you woke up already anxious, you found yourself tapping the table with your fingers so hard that your mom asked you if everything was ok. By 12 when your mom called you for lunch you barely ate, she told you she was going out whit your dad and probably come back late at night. By 3 you were ready, seating in the living room with your leg bouncing on the floor, you were wearing a yellow floral summer dress, your hair was down and you put on light makeup, not wanting it to be too much, your hand was playing with the charm of your necklace when you hear the doorbell, you looked at your phone, it was only 3:15, you frowned at how early he had arrived and walked to the front door, you swung the door open and your eyes widened in surprise.
“JJ” you spoke at the blonde boy.
“Hi” he said low with his hands in his pockets.
“How are you?” you asked.
“Good” he nodded and looked at you up and down “you look…nice, I mean you look pretty” he corrected himself fast and coughed.
“Thank you” you smiled shyly and felt your face hotter.
After a couple of seconds of silence he finally spoke “I was heading to the beach” he said pointing back “and well I thought about you” his hand went to his cap to fix it “if you wanted to go?”
“Oh I’ll love to but I already have plans” you said; JJ face fell but he had already assumed it when he saw how you were dressed “sorry”
“Don’t worry, maybe another day” he offered.
“Yes of course!” you nodded quickly “I’m free tomorrow if you are”
JJ face lighted up “yeah I’m free”
“Tomorrow then” you two stayed there smiling at each other like two idiots until JJ’s phone buzzed in his pocket.
“Bye" he said and turned around.
You closed the door and pressed your back at it, letting out a huge sigh, the smile never leaving your face. Not too much time after that you heard the doorbell again, this time when you opened the door Cooper was at the other side, he was wearing a light blue bottom shirt and jeans, his hair was at a side as always.
“Ready?” he asked with a big smile, you nodded and grabbed your purse and keys “you look beautiful” he said.
“Thank you” you smiled glancing at him.
“My lady” he said as he opened the car door for you making you chuckle.
He started the car, music played low through the speaker as you chatted about trivial stuff. He parked in front of a tiny restaurant close to the lighthouse; you got out of the car and walked inside next to him, he gave his last name to the waitress and she guided you to a table outside. The view was amazing, the lighthouse in the distance and the sea in front of you. You two sat at the table and the girl left the menus for you, it didn’t take much for you two to choose something to eat and you told the lady right away.
“Do you like it?” he asked.
“It’s beautiful” you replied nodding.
“I’m glad you think so” he grinned “I think I never asked you why you moved here?”
“My dad was offered a job” you explained.
“Oh ok, do you miss home?”
“I miss my best friend” you replied “what about you, have you lived here all your life?”
“Yes ma’am Outer Banks born and raised” he replied.
“And do you want to stay here?” you asked
“God no” he chuckled “I was supposed to go to college when the summer ends but I chose to have a sabbatical year” he explained “I want to travel and I don’t know do fun stuff and relax”
“That sounds nice” you agreed “what would be the first place you want to visit?” you questioned.
“Amsterdam” he replied almost immediately.
“And what are you going to study?”
“Well my dad is a doctor so of course he wanted me to study medicine too but that’s not for me, I want to be a software developer” he replied “what about you? What do you want to do?”
“Well I still have to finish high school” you two giggled “but I always liked psychology”
“Wow I never would have thought that” he said “what about you, If you could go to another place right now where would you go?”
“London” you replied immediately.
“Why?” he asked curiously.
“I don’t know” you chuckled.
The lady arrived with your food and you kept talking through all the meal, well mostly him. You felt silly for being so nervous before, Cooper had always been nice to you and somehow managed to make you feel comfortable around him. You two ended up ordering some dessert too and stayed there for almost two hours. He stood up to go to the bathroom and came back with the bill paid, you rolled your eyes at him but deep down you knew he wouldn’t let you pay anyway. He drove you back home, the ride was lighter than the first, the music was a little louder and you two sang to a couple of songs. He parked in front of your house and threw you a quick glance you did the same thing, feeling your hands get colder.
“Do you want to stay a little?” you asked suddenly, taking him by surprise.
“Yeah sure” he replied.
You got out of the car and looked around realizing your parent's car was gone and remembered your mom saying earlier that she was going out with your dad, you freaked out, not wanting to give him the wrong idea, you glance back at him when he closes the car and opted for walking towards the dock, he followed you closely; you rested your arms on the railing of the dock and he did the same next to you, the sun was already setting and the sky was tinted with orange and pink. He laughed at something you said and you turned at him, Cooper took the opportunity and his hand came closer to your face as he tucked a wild lock behind your ear, your breath got heavy knowing what was about to happen, his eyes trailed to your lips and he slowly came closer and closer, until his lips were pressed against yours, you kissed him back, his hand went to the back of your neck but you stayed still. You kissed for minutes until you pulled away.
“I…” you started “I broke up with Liam not long ago, I…”
“Don’t worry, I get it” he interrupted you.
“Sorry”
“Don’t be” he said and smiled “I mean yeah I like you, but I love you as a friend too and I’m not going to risk not having you around” he shook his head, you smiled and hugged him, he wrapped his arms around you and squeezed you making you giggle. You two stayed there for a little while more until the sun was completely gone, you walked with him towards his car and waved him goodbye. You were going upstairs when your phone lighted up with a message.
“Hey it’s JJ, I asked Kie for your number” “See you tomorrow?”
Without even noticing it you were smiling at your phone and you felt your heart jump in your chest.
“Hi! Yes, what time?”
“10?”
“Perfect”
“See you tomorrow then” he texted.
“See you tomorrow”
You went inside your room with the silliest smile on your face and jumped to your bed letting out a huge sight. Your phone started buzzing again and you saw Amy written on the screen, she warned you she’ would call so you could tell her everything about your date, you picked up and talked for hours.

Prompt: The First Time They Dance with Their S/O
Leo- “If I Could Fly” by One Direction
You had a long, stressful day at work and were just done
The moment you left your office, you texted Leo to meet you down the block
(mostly so he could have time to get there)
When you got there, you went into the alleyway and needed to wait only a moment before he peeked out of the manhole cover
You smiled as he emerged
You were relieved to see him
“Hi, Love. Long day?”
“You don’t even know,” you chuckled dryly
He took you into his arms and lifted you to the rooftops
He placed you back down but continued to hold you to his plastron
Honestly?
His hugs were therapeutic
What you didn’t see was getting out his phone
A moment later, a song started playing quietly from his speaker
He started rocking with you slowly as he sang softly
“If I could fly, I'd be comin' right back home to you. I think I might give up everything, just ask me to. Pay attention, I hope that you listen ‘cause I let my guard down. Right now I'm completely defenseless…”
You continued to dance slowly, and your singing voice replaced his when the chorus came along
“For your eyes only, I'll show you my heart; for when you're lonely and forget who you are. I'm missing half of me when we're apart. Now you know me, for your eyes only…”
He joined you for the last line of the chorus
“For your eyes only.”
The two of you remained quiet as the song continued
You continued to slow dance around the rooftop
Once the song ended, you just giggled
“What?” he asked you
“I don’t know… You’re just a dork.”
“But I’m your dork, right?”
You smile
“Right.”
You kiss him as the sun starts to set over the city
Raph- “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran
You and he were at the Lair
He wasn’t feeling well, so he skipped out of the patrol
(but he was too prideful to admit he was sick, so you took the bullet for him. he said he wanted to take care of you)
So, you were the only one that saw him become a literal lovebug
He became so soft in everything he said and did
You loved how adorable he was
You had decided to play some soft music while you made a pot of tea for you two to share
While making said tea, he came up behind you and wrapped his large arms around your shoulders and upper body
“What are you doing? You should be in bed.”
“I don’t care. I want to be with you, Y/n.”
You just smiled
As a new song started, he started rocking along to the music, you still in his arms
He sang along to the lyrics as quiet as a mouse
“I found a love for me. Oh, darling, just dive right in. Follow my lead. Well, I found someone, beautiful and sweet. Oh, I never knew you were the someone waiting for me… We were just kids when we fell in love, not knowing what it was. I will not give you up this time. Darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I know. And in your eyes, you're holding mine…”
You turned around and faced him, wrapping your arms around his torso
You continued singing along
“Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my arms. Barefoot on the grass and listening to our favorite song. When you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breath- but you heard it. Darling, you look perfect tonight…”
You two stayed like that, ignoring the tea kettle, even as it screamed past its boiling point
You just wanted to be in his arms
Donnie- “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
You were on the rooftop of your apartment, watching the city go by below
You were stressed from work and were considering quitting
Your boss wouldn’t do anything about your co-workers practically bullying you, leaving you close to tears after every shift
You were the youngest on staff since you were still a teenager
Everyone else was over the age of 30
Donnie arrived after a while and immediately sense something was off
“Hey, Y/n. Why the long face?” he asked, trying to make you smile
You huffed and shrugged
Donnie thought for a moment
Then, he offered you his hand
“What?”
“Stand up with me. I want to show you something.”
You hesitantly grabbed his hand and he pulled you to your feet
Without skipping a beat, he pulled you to his plastron and wrapped his arms around you
“Work again?”
You nod against his plastron
“You should leave, Y/n. You’re essentially hired at that other job.”
“I know, but-”
He gently hushed you
He started waltzing lazily around the rooftop, singing without a backing track
“I see trees so green, red roses too; I see them bloom for me and you. And I think to myself, ‘What a wonderful world?’ I see skies so blue and clouds so white. The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night. And I think to myself, ‘What a wonderful world?’”
He continued singing to you as he led you around the rooftop
Soon, you were smiling and singing along with him
After you two finished the song, you stopped dancing and just remained in each other’s arms
Mikey- “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” by Usher (ft. Pitbull)
You had just showered and were into your pajamas, which was merely a large t-shirt and underwear
You still had music playing and were lip-syncing around your apartment
You were like Tom Cruise in “Risky Business”
(you actually did just listen to “Old Time Rock n Roll…”)
You were also expecting Mikey, but you didn’t care if he saw you
He came to your apartment just after sunset
He sat in the window for a while, watching you have fun dancing
Only when he knew a song was nearing its end was when he knocked
You skipped over to the window and let him in just as the song changed
“Oh, I love this one!” he said
He grabbed your arms and started twirling you around
“So we back in the club with our bodies rockin' from side to side, side to side. Thank God the week is done. I feel like a zombie comin' back to life- back to life. Hands up, and suddenly we all got our hands up. No control of my body. Ain’t I seen you before? I think I remember those eyes, eyes, eyes, eyes. Eyes, eyes, eyes.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, and then sing along with him
“Cause baby tonight, the DJ got us fallin’ in love again. Yeah, baby tonight, Dthe J got us fallin' in love again. So dance, dance, like it's the last, last night of your life, life. Gon’ get you right, ‘cause baby tonight, the DJ got us fallin' in love again.”
You two repeated the song twice more
By the end of the third repetition, you both collapsed onto the couch
“You’re ridiculous,” you giggle
“You started the song,” he said
“And? You’re the one who started dancing.”
“Can’t deny that- the vibes were too strong!”
The two of you just laughed for the rest of the night until you fell asleep in his arms
