Newsflash they probably will make a mistake which a) doesn't make you an asshole especially if you learn from it b) disappointing you in particular doesn't mean the person did anything wrong in general. Making mistakes and even doing something bad(within the limits we ain't talking about Hitler here) doesn't erase the good that someone did especially if it was done with heart and often it doesn't make you automatically a villain. so i just found some old interviews of spop, especially ones after the finale, and i just wanted to dissect some of the interesting parts:

the crew themselves keep reinforcing the idea that only catra saw adora for who she is, when the show itself says otherwise multiple times. catra, who mocked adora for never being a true hero, who kept hurting adora because she resented her for being she-ra, who kept saying that adora has a hero complex and that she is full of herself. that catra “motivated and inspired” adora?

“i wanted their romance to be the central arc”

this explains everything. the fact that they took an existing show with an intriguing fantasy world and so much potential and then reduced it to “cute lesbians kiss haha”. if you're gonna write a show about romance, do that. you don't have to butcher an already existing series for that.

“it reveals how that arc has been built”

what arc? is the arc we're talking about in the same room as us? because from what i can see, they put in zero effort to make c//a's development even halfway coherent. catgirl tortures hero for four seasons, gets saved by said hero and joins the good guys, continues torturing hero. how is that an arc?

so.. they have the right idea here. catra and adora did indeed need to take their time away from each other and deal with their problems. but did they? adora came close to building her self-esteem and realizing that she didn't have to take responsibility for everything around her. but then all that was reversed in s5 when she was forced into a relationship with the same person who ruined her sense of self-worth in the first place.

catra.. doesn't even try. the closest she got to moving on from her past was during her time in the crimson waste but then she ends up spiralling even deeper into toxicity, adding more and more into her list of crimes. in s5, she is shown to reflect on her relationship with adora but does she learn anything from it? nope. she continues abusing and berating adora, she continues giving adora mixed signals and relying on adora to do all the work in the relationship.

so the crew seemingly had the right idea (although i'd say they still shouldn't get into a relationship, even after they've worked on their issues) but never followed through. instead they gave us a lazy and rushed redemption, where the wrongdoer never works on their flaws and instead puts all the blame on their partner. amazing.

so nate himself admits that not all of catra's actions were justified. but then, why does the show try to justify them? why does the show justify catra abusing adora by implying that it's because adora abandoned her? why does the show justify all of catra's toxic and abusive behaviour by blaming it solely on shadow weaver? if catra's actions cannot be justified, the narrative should keep her accountable, which they don't.

secondly, i'll try not to assume the worst of nate's personality from what he said, and just get to the important part.

“It's other people's decision to forgive you, that's not a given, but also there are ways for you to fix what's broken. You have to work hard to prove yourself again, you have to actually actively fix what's done, it's not as simple as a sacrifice.”

i'm so confused. the way nate says it, you'd think he applied all of this to catra's arc. but he didn't. “it's not as simple as a sacrifice” but a sacrifice was all it took for catra to be forgiven by her victims. she doesn't work on herself, her apologies were shallow, and she continues repeating the same mistakes. “it's other people's decision to forgive you” yet every single character forgives catra immediately and none of them are allowed to stay mad at her.

how could you write such a bad redemption and then talk about it as if it had all the details and nuance it was lacking? again, when speaking, nate seems to have the right idea of how to write a redemption arc. why did they fumble so badly when it came to actually executing it in the story? the only answer i can think of is that none of the writers in the crew are good at writing.

I think something a lot of fans of Anakin tend to forget about him is that his story is told and looked at in reverse: the effect of his actions (Vader and the Empire) were shown an written before the cause (him being a Jedi and then falling). Vader, the irredeemable monster, being forgiven by Luke, is supposed to be a statement on Luke’s character, not Anakin’s. Vader isn’t post Anakin, Anakin is pre-Vader. Framing him like that, it’s suddenly clear just how flawed and terrible Anakin was even before he took a nosedive off the diving board of common sense (if he was ever on it)

The redemption that so many fans want to give Vader, then, is framed in film less as Vader realizing he’s wrong and doing a 180. It’s Luke recognizing how close he is to becoming Vader, choosing a better path, and getting tortured for it. Honestly, as far as Vader’s actual redemptive moment, it’s a fairytale moment of “death equals redemption” that holds up in the narrative of Luke’s story, but wouldn’t actually accomplish anything for Vader.

All that to say… Anakin should be recognized as being Pre-Vader, and if someone wants to do a fixit good ending story with him they either need to kill him off or spend a LOT of time getting him to actually recognize his failures and then turn away from them.

(Unfortunately, that’s a LOT of *work*, so most people just woobify him and call it a day. Thank you for your work of correcting this misunderstanding, and sorry for the long ask 😅)

In fairness, Lucas had a pretty good amount of the story from the Prequels WRITTEN already, he just ended up having to make the story in reverse, which is why there's references to Anakin having been a Jedi who fell and the Clone War. But most of it is just that... references. We ARE focused on Luke's story and so Anakin's background is there to, as you say, highlight LUKE'S choices and struggles and triumphs. We never find out why Anakin did the things he did in the OT (aside from Obi-Wan's comments about his own arrogance in trying to train Anakin which the Prequels retconned anyway), so Anakin's choices are a reflection on Luke more than anything else because Luke is the character we actually know.

And... yeah. Anakin's redemption is difficult for me because I get why it happened the way it did in the OT. Anakin's biggest crimes within the context of JUST what we see in the Original Trilogy are against Luke himself (chopping off the arm, killing Obi-Wan) and so the fact that he dies by saving Luke means he's fairly directly addressed those crimes and made amends for them. He can die having fixed those mistakes and forgiven by the person he's hurt the most. It works. But adding in the Prequels means now there's the Tuskens he murdered, Padme who he manipulates and betrays, the Republic he's dismantled, and the Jedi Order that he betrays and genocides (and adding in TCW means we can also include the clones that he betrays and enslaves). And now all of the sudden there's a LOT more that we have directly seen him do that needs to be redeemed and a lot more amends he needs to make and a lot more people whose forgiveness he doesn't have and will likely never get. There's a lot of things that killing Palpatine can never and will never fix or undo. It doesn't directly address almost ANY of those sins. And so this sudden redemption via death stops feeling so satisfying because it just... doesn't actually mean anything in the face of what we've now seen him do.

Like you say, it holds up if you just look at Luke's narrative, but it falls apart when you look at Anakin's own.

Redeeming Anakin while taking into account everything he has done over the Prequels, TCW, Rebels, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, and anything else that's been written for him in other media would be a difficult story to write. It WOULD take a lot of time, he may never actually completely redeem himself for what he's done because he may never truly be able to let go of some of those fears or some of his guilt and grief. He may never quite lose the instinct to react to things with violence. It SHOULD be messy and complicated, but that's not always the most satisfying story to write or even to read, so that's where we end up with woobified Anakin who just gets to do one slightly goodish thing and call it a day.

What character do you think is most misunderstood by the fandom or casual watchers/readers?

Agni. *Edit: the people he assaulted weren't actually dead, that's my mistake-- But the point is he should have been in jail, and our!Ciel and Sebastian "redeemed" and pardoned him in England. * I'm of the opinion that newcomers or people who want the full picture of what's going on in the story, need to disregard SI entirely and are better off just reading up until Book of Circus. I don't feel like SI makes the events clear enough. In fact? I'd go as far to say SI FUCKED up the curry arc immensely? And chapter 23 never got animated the way it was supposed to. Bits and pieces but not the way it should have been, we missed the best parts. Even in Book of Circus! It's such a shame! It's one of my favorite chapters and so many people are missing out. Agni post-events of the curry arc DESPERATELY tries to turn himself into the police to atone for his crimes because scotland yard is in the manor at the same him he and Soma are, ... and Sebastian literally wont allow it. Some highlights:

A lot of casual watchers and readers I find get really, really confused and somehow miss the point that during the Curry Arc, Agni was betraying Soma and going behind his back to protect his well-being and his feelings, yes, but... he was willing to go SO FAR to do that, that he went back to his first "sinful" nature (before meeting soma) in order to do so and dirty his hands again... And yet, Sebastian still considers him an excellent butler and sings nothing but praises. Regardless of why, Agni *assaulted, stripped, humiliated and hung people-of-import upside-down on display on the East End, and was one responsible for a lot of tension between Indians and British at the beginning of this arc. Even though he accepts he's guilty and in a sense "relapsed" back to his old ways and betrayed Soma (and his own culture and race), someone who he considers god-like in his eyes. ... he's given a second chance, but not only that, Sebastian (and Ciel) go out of his way to try to protect him. Of course it's under the guise of "Don't inconvenience us!" but they COULD have turned him in, and they didn't do that. I know a lot of people chant HE'S A CINNAMONROLL AND DID NOTHING WRONG (and Sebastian is one of those people) but I sincerely think it's beautiful that even though he "fell" and "betrayed" Soma and went back to "Sinning"... he still possesses his right hand and is forgiven and seen as good, he gets his second chance and not only does Soma consider him still a good person and declares him "redeemed" but this time, our!Ciel does the same thing for him and declares him "redeemed" and covers up his crimes, too. To me that's a really big deal?... but I rarely if ever see people talk about it, and when I talk to new readers or anime-only-watchers they seemed to miss that he LITERALLY assaulted those people and should be in jail, he didn't merely "help" or was running errands or anything like he ...literally committed a string of crimes in England for Soma because he was being blackmailed. Not just any people either, specifically British Lords of import that had come back from India. -- The East End is also Lau's territory, and one very final and important detail that never got animated or talked-about in the anime was that Lau and Ran Mao KILLED Mina and her husband, Harold West Jeb, because of what they were doing... and also, curiously, Lau spared Agni even though he was the one who was actually physically did the crimes and made problems for him. Agni got not a second-chance but a third-chance and I think it's very beautiful in the most tragic of ways that he continued to spend his life protecting Soma ... but it's also very, very sad because unfortunately... it makes a case for Real!Ciel's bizarre doll, because if he was truly 'watching' as close as he claimed the entire time and knew what Agni had done, all he has to do is say "He shouldn't have been allowed to live anyway he was anti-british a trouble maker, violent and terrible person! 💕" prompting me, personally, to jump into the manga like steve from blues clues and strangle him myself,,,,, But you get the point, basically what I'm trying to say is Agni is even cooler than he seems and more complex and I think people miss it.

It’s been a while. Hope you’ve been well!

I only want to say something once (and then move on) about the events that transpired yesterday on the bird app (still glad it’s deleted off of my phone though).

Dream continues to prove time and time again why he’s a better person than me, and probably 99% of CCs. I would not have forgiven this man for attempting to ruin my career and slander my name. I wouldn’t have even approached him directly; my legal team would have done it, if I were in dreams shoes.

If you were to ask me why I am a fan of Dream, I’d say it’s because he’s produces good content and it brought me closer to my brother. If you were to ask me on a deeper level, it’s because this man is kindness and empathy personified. I thought I possessed empathy, but this man has enough for the whole world. Seeing a person continue to get beat down as hard as he has by not only fellow ccs, but other fandoms, and haters of himself- watching that- makes me indescribably upset on his behalf. But seeing him continue to rise above makes me realize just how much growth I still have to do as a human. (And he’s doing all his maturing publicly; I’m just a mere fan who does all of my maturing in private.).

If you asked me on a deeper level why I’m a fan, it’s because in all the time I’ve been on the internet, I’ve never seen someone so unapologetically themselves. I’ve never met the man, but from what I’ve heard, he’s even sweeter in person. Online culture can be cringe and when your career is based off performing well online, sometimes you can get caught up in it. Dreams never strayed from who he is. He’s always been empathetic but now he’s incredibly more so because he just wants us all to be loved. And it’s more than admirable, and if I found a word that means more than that, I’d insert it.

Anyway. Enough Dream love posting, even though I could go on for all of ever.

I rarely reply on Reddit, more of a lurker on most social forum apps now. But I replied yesterday. Cause as a victim of grooming, abuse, and SA I am so exhausted from seeing all this “I know something about Person A that you don’t know but I’m not going to reveal it cause the ‘victims’ aren’t ready” bullshit. It does nothing except for piss off actual victims. Parading around potential victims and would-be abusers but never actually releasing anything makes you just as bad as the person you’re claiming is despicable. You’re showing victims you don’t care about them and would instead protect their abuser in favor of some interaction on your account. And that’s exactly the reason why some people don’t speak up.

Never in my life have I seen people go “I’m going to publicly allude to there being victims of Person A (without releasing proof) to see how the public responds” until I joined this fandom . Motherfucker, you got clowned on by everyone including one of dreams biggest ops. All you did was show victims that should they come forward, they can expect that same response. This takes away from the legitimacy of true victims and helps actual abusers (or whatever the nature of the crime is) keep getting away with being horrible people.

That is if there are any victims, and this time there weren’t. And haven’t been. And as this man quickly found out, people are still trying to spread false information to take Dream down cause they can’t handle that he’s not a despicable human who’s done criminally offensive shit. Why those people would want there to be victims explains everything about who they are as people.

To his latest statement, I’m glad this turned out positive. But again, I would not have been so kind if I was in Dreams position. This man claiming he had nothing to gain from this when his entire career is commentary makes me laugh. He absolutely had something to gain from this. Dream is still a giant creator (Twitter isn’t where his fandom is, contrary to other CCs and antis beliefs). Taking him down would make you the hero of Twitter (I’m saying Twitter cause on YT Dre keeps thriving), and riding off the George/Caiti situation, it would have been monumental (again, all true if this man wasn’t talking out of his ass). He absolutely had a million things to gain from saying what he did. You can’t convince me otherwise.

And his shock at dreams empathy is incredible.“Yeah sorry I tried to ruin your career bro. This is probably where I get sued, right?” ‘No, dude, it’s all good. I’m here to clear up any misinformation. Just want us all to get along.’ Is how I imagine that went. Incredible that not everyone possesses the same kind of malice those bad faith actors sending him that shit did. Or even himself for trying to ruin someone’s career over baseless shit sent by people who clearly have a bias against Dream.

I am once again begging people to talk to each other. I feel like everyone forgets the DM button exists on every app. And with how few people use it, it’s probably all dusty and covered in spider webs. This situation was resolved cause Dream reached out and they talked it out like the adults that they are. Amazingly, this whole situation could have been avoided if Slander or Zander or whatever the fuck his name is just talked directly to Dream first. We wouldn’t have even known more people were trying to spread shit, cause it would have already been resolved (though I’m not dumb and know people are still trying to do so. Brighton Bastards, looking at you).

I understand Dream wanting us to leave this man alone, and I will. I want no part in whatever he’s doing. He could completely change his whole approach around and suddenly be a better person, and I literally would not care. Cause I am not Dream, so I have nothing personally invested in being respectful to this man. But I’ll leave him because for my own victim hood, I couldn’t trust this man with my food never mind supporting me when I needed it.

I will not be praising him for “doing the right thing”, though I am glad he apologized both publicly and hopefully privately. Had he done the right thing before boldly making those claims, we wouldn’t be here. You don’t get to try to ruin someone’s career off of baseless shit and then backtrack when you’re corrected and expect people to praise you. Congratulations, you chose to be a decent human this one time. Now continue to do so.

To wrap this up, I am glad he apologized. I am glad he said he’d be taking a better approach to future situations should there be any (not just with Dream but with other CCs too). I am still saddened that Dream has to continuously reach out to these bad faith actors cause they don’t care to fact check things (when it’s literally their job to do so).

Dream, never change. I know the fandom says they want Nightmare to return, but your kindness is why we love you.

Zander, thanks for apologizing. Hopefully you mature from this and I don’t have to do this again-coming from the empathic part of me. From the victim side, fuck you for adding on to why it’s hard for victims to come forward.

I didn’t mean for this to get so long, but I greatly appreciate you reading it. I will be moving on now. Maybe back to Dream love posting. I like that, that makes me happy.

and yeah this is all very true and well-said; Dream is a whole new standard for empathy and understanding in the face of harassment and misinformation and slander. I am slowly learning to understand him and I also feel like I am maturing more alongside him because I really thought I was empathetic to people before, but Dream knocks it out of the park every single time and leaves me speechless.

I agree that Zander should not be applauded for doing the normal thing and privately communicating and publicly apologizing after constantly creating issues. But I am glad it happened nonetheless because maybe this will inspire more people to chat with dream before coming out with vague shit that ALWAYS turns out to be untrue.

Another good turning point for the fandom that I hope wakes people up to just how ridiculous and convoluted things become when private communication amongst people is not promoted in the face of potential drama/controversy

anyway something i’ve recently been thinking a lot about is one piece’s message of “children should not bear the sins of their fathers”. and you might think i’m about to talk about ace but i’m actually gonna talk about orochi

he was the person ace could have become if people knew ace was the son of the pirate king, and hunted and attacked and tortured for merely existing. luckily, ace’s identity was kept a secret and he found people that loved him at a young age, before he became radicalized. he just felt unwanted and so damn angry all the time, then he met his brothers and found a reason to live and keep going (sorry i said i won’t but i’m talking about ace anyway)

and then we see orochi. taking away all his sins aside, when he didn’t commit atrocities one after the other in his ambition to be shogun (and destroy wano), he was Just Some Guy. his clan had fallen from grace, he didn’t even have influence, and as far as we can tell, he was really just trying to live a normal life.

but the people, en masse, took it upon themselves to hunt this guy since he was a child, hunt his entire family line too, for the crimes committed by a power hungry man two generations ago. he bore the sins of his (grand)father. he didn’t have to. he was born innocent, just like ace was.

and i think that’s cool, that one piece shows us we really, really shouldn’t hold babies accountable for things that happened before they were even born. and then show us what could happen when they do (in such subtle ways too, you would never think this was a parallel to ace — at least i haven’t seen people talk about it).

of course i am not saying he should be forgiven or anything. but he’s such an interesting character. and the parallels are quite astounding.

My thoughts as of rn on foolish's betrayal

The “arc” did just start, so things are subject to change. But this is my opinion/take on what happened yesterday and the things that stood out to me.

Long read ahead and this is the short version OTL

To me, even entertaining and trying to do an “well actually…” in this case is so unserious and disingenuous. Q!Foolish betrayed his friends. As of right now, he’s a traitor. I don’t know how you could watch q!Foolish arrest q!Pac and q!Mike, and not think that in itself wasn’t a major betrayal? He literally led them to the place of arrest without giving them any sort of indication that they were in potential danger. He arrested them for crimes they seemingly didn’t commit and gave them up to the federation. Just like that. This was at the very least betrayal of q!Tazercraft, but in my opinion, also a betrayal of all his friends. Especially the Brazilians and Richarlyson.

Part of the betrayal is also the fact that q!Foolish really doesn’t think he did anything wrong, he feels no remorse. Leading up to the arrest, he keeps saying stuff like “they’ll understand, they won’t get mad”, as if he’s not fully grasping the severity of his actions.

He really sat there in the federation office and just went along with Cucurucho’s plan with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. And that just continues, he gets a bit nervous too, but mainly he’s super excited and happy.

Another thing I noted was the “I trust your strong sense of justice” book Cucurucho gave him. It doesn’t align with his person at all. Q!Foolish hasn’t ever been about justice, he’s been much more of a let live kinda guy. Even his answer to Cucurucho about what he thinks about Order, is a clear indication that he’s not really occupied by these themes, to him order is fine, if it doesn’t get restraining. That’s really all the thought he has about it. Q!Foolish is not someone with a strong sense of justice. He’s actively hiding an illegal item as we speak.

It felt as though Q!Foolish intuitively knew something was off, but he actively chooses to not think about it. He clearly doesn’t see himself as someone with a strong sense of justice, he does find it a bit weird Cucurucho asks him to do the arrests, when the federation usually does it fine themselves. But in his excitement, he ignores all the red flags.

Q!Foolish also seem to be under the belief that he’ll be easily forgiven and that no one will be mad at him, which shocks me, because by now, he should know that working with the federation and not sharing information is social suicide on the island. Especially when he really isn’t being threatened nor blackmailed. For all intents and purposes, he could’ve refused, but he didn’t even entertain the idea of not helping the federation.

Even when q!Cellbit makes it clear, that if q!Foolish is in any way omitting truth and not sharing information, he would no longer consider him a friend, q!Foolish still just talks in circles and refuses to elaborate and explain. Q!Foolish seems to think he can get away with his empty words and generally likeableness. The final nail in the coffin is his lie to q!Jaiden. Painting his actions as a last resort to protect Richarlyson is clever but also so underhanded. But if it ever comes out or people start to question it, it will also be his downfall.

He thinks he knows what he’s doing and that he’s in control, but in reality, I think Cucurucho/the federation are using him and he’s in way over his head.

24 april 2024 trauma vent

I should have written this down last night when I was trying to fall asleep. I only have vague memories left of it now. Last night I was really really defending my abuser in my head to the point I think I forgave him. This confused me. Let's write down the thoughts that made me think he did nothing wrong and see if they make sense.

"He looked very sad, this means he must regret it a lot" while his facial expression did indeed portray sadness, you can't know why he looked sad. It's actually a lot more likely he looked sad about you cutting contact with him. If I recall correctly he also had a lot of expressions of violent rage as well as sadistic pleasure. His sad expressions were often used as a manipulation tactic. Making himself look like the victim.

"He punished himself by cutting himself" we both know this was a guilt tripping tactic. While I do believe he might have been angry at himself for what he had done and felt the need to repent for it. I think this had more to do with his religion not allowing it and therefor having to repent for God. He also used this as an excuse to say he had already been punished so he would now need to be forgiven. I believe he used the exact words "You are required to forgive me" or at least another phrase that expressed the message of me having no choice in my forgiveness. Saying that if I did not forgive him this would make me a bad person.

"He reported himself to the police wanting to repent, but they didn't do anything becauae I didn't report it. This means he knows he comitted a crime and is trying to take accountability." We both know that the context in which he told you he went to the police to turn himself in was to guilt trip you back into his life after you had cut contact with him. For all we know he never went to the police station at all and it was just a lie to make himself look good. Even if he trully went to turn himself in. He said his reasoning was that after he did time in jail I would have no excuses to want no contact with him because he would have done his time and would therefor deserve another chance. He made it clear the goal was to get access to me again. He was actively stalking you while he made the statement about turning himself in. He has never apologised to you for what he has done and he kept making excuses for his behavior. While it is true he used the words "I'm sorry" this was always in the context of trying to get you to comfort him and forgive him. He has never once said "I'm sorry for doing x" It was always just the words "I'm sorry" followed by the exact same behavior hapenning yet again, followed by another "I'm sorry" followed by the exact behavior repeated again in an endless loop. An honest apology will also include changing the behavior you apologised for.

"He might really not have known what he did was wrong" Please look at message above. Why did he say sorry if he felt he hadn't done anything wrong? Why did he tell you to never speak with anyone about it? Why did he take you to secluded locations away from civilsation and away from other people? Why did he tell you it was your fault? Why did he want to keep it hidden if it wasn't wrong? Why were you instructed not to tell your parents?

"He is mentally ill. He didn't really mean it" As your therapist has said before. His diagnosis does not include the behaviors he displayed with you. The behaviors do in fact all point to him being an abuser. Being an abuser is not a mental illness or diagnosis. He comitted all behavior in a state where he was not in crisis. It was predetermined, plabned and calculated. This is not a symptom of a mental disorder where someone behaves erraticaly and out of control. He was very much in control of what he was doing. He made the decision to do what he did knowingly and being fully aware of his actions. While it's possible he might have went further than he originally intended. He still planned it and decided to keep going. Besides, we both know what his ultimate goal was. He told you after all. And I believe he even stated he had no intention of ever stopping untill his mission was accomplished. Which was full control over you for the rest of your life. The only reason he has stopped now in the current day is because the police interferred.

"What if he just really believed what he did was right?" Believing something to be right and something being right are different things. Someone thinking murder is right doesn't mean it's right and doesn't stop them from being accountable for their actions. It doesn't matter what he believed in.

"I was too friendly to him" Being friendly to someone is not an invitation for sa/harassment of any kind.

"What if he really believed I wanted it" Noah.. on what earth could he have believed that? With all the fighting you did? With all the struggle you put up? Your verbal protest? The way you cried? Even without any of that. Even if staying silent and without movement. Silence and immobility are not consent. He should have asked. He should have checked in with your feelings. He should have made sure you were on the same page. ... let me remind you he told you that it turned him on to see you fight against it. He acknowledged you fought against it. Higurashi: Atonement Chapter 11

I think this chapter more than any other emphasizes the theme I've said Higurashi is about.

Keiichi was a messed up guy before coming to Hinamizawa.

It's a bit hypocritical of Rena to say Keiichi isn't her friend due to him hiding his past from her when he doesn't know anything from her past either.

The same is true of when Keiichi said the exact same thing to Mion in Abducted by Demons.

I want to give a quick comparison between how Keiichi and Rena's pasts have been presented to us. Part of Rena's past was given to us in Abducted by Demons while part of Keiichi's past was given in Curse Killing. Then the full stories were given in this arc.

In Rena's case, the partial story was given by Ooishi and it emphasized Rena's past cases of violence and psychosis without giving us any reasons why. In Keiichi's case, he was the one telling us the partial story and while we're told about the buildup to his crime, we don't actually get the crime itself.

Rena is very upfront to us that she committed horrible acts in her narration, but Keiichi didn't bring his acts up until Rena confronted him over it.

In many stories, this would be proof that Keiichi is in the wrong because he's trying to keep something from his past a secret while Rena is in the right for admitting to what she's done. But I want to take a different approach based on what their friends said when Keiichi told them everything.

This is a story about repentance, forgiveness, and second chances.

Keiichi is ashamed of what he's done, and he's trying to be a better person because of it. He doesn't bring it up and he doesn't have to. He's already confessed and atoned and is always trying to be better.

But when Rena openly admits to us what she has done and the person she has been, I think it's a sign she hasn't truly moved on from her past. She doesn't believe she's been forgiven or atoned for what she's done. She didn't try to be a better person; she abandoned her old self and tried to be a new person.

That next part hits us just as hard as that bat hit Mion.

This is the answer arc to Abducted by Demons. But all this time, we've been seeing a story that parallels it rather than seeing the truth of what happened.

But now we get to see the answer to that arc. And it's not just the answer to what actually happened. It's answering what could have been done to stop this.

Rika has said she will die on June 25th in this arc. I'm cheating by looking ahead, but I can argue that it is likely June 24th during this scene (Happy birthday Satoko!!). And I've previously determined that Keiichi killed Mion and Rena on June 24th in Abducted by Demons.

It's a bit of a stretch, but I want to believe that Mion said "Hurry up and feel better!" at the literal same moment in time in these two arcs. And that coincidental overlap is what caused Keiichi to remember his actions in Abducted by Demons.

In Eye Opening, Rika said they should forgive the people who entered the Saiguden because they were sorry for it. And when Shion said only Oyashiro can decide, Rika simply said she's Oyashiro-sama's priestess.

And now we know that Oyashiro really does exist and speaks to Rika. Oyashiro really did want to forgive Keiichi and Shion for their trespass. And Rika did what she could to save Keiichi because he had confessed and could be forgiven.

And just now he confessed his sins from Abducted by Demons. And in response, Rika once again is doing everything she can to save him. And salvation comes from knowing he can be forgiven and understand how he can try to save Rena.

In Abducted by Demons, Rena considered her failure to help Satoshi a great sin and saving Keiichi was her greatest second chance. To the very end, she tried to save him. And though it took much longer than it should have, her words did reach Keiichi.

And now that Keiichi has realized what he did, he's realized this is his second chance. He didn't trust in his friends, but now he will never distrust them again. And he will believe that he can reach Rena and stop her from becoming what he became.

And Rika, who has seen her friends make these mistakes over and over, is willing to fight to save this doomed world.

Call me a pro-shipper but I squealed when this happened.

This arc has been two different perspectives fighting each other to paint the narrative as they head toward a destined tragedy. We already know how this is expected to end: Rena will blow up the school, killing herself and all her classmates.

The "question" perspective has shown us what has led Rena to do this. Meanwhile the "answer" perspective has shown us why she is mistaken. But now the "answer" perspective is no longer about showing us what really happened. It is now focused on stopping the tragedy that is supposed to happen.

I'm always curious about Peng, why are his nephews said to be murdered like some people say? Do demons always get unfair treatment in some stories? Or is it more that humans can be forgiven more easily by the gods agaisnt harmless demons?

I’m afraid that you might have the demon confused because Peng does not have nephews... unless you mean the Buddha? Because that is his "god-nephew" so to speak. He has a sister but I’m not familiar with his sister having biological children. Do you mean the Immortal Ruyi? His nephew being Red Boy? Or the Seven Fox King, his nephews being Golden Horn and Silver Horn? Or even Ao Guang with his nephew being the rouge dragon Toulong? There are a lot of demons or dragons or even celestials with nephews but please send my the passage where it says the Golden Wing Peng has nephews because I cannot find that anywhere.

And I can’t say that Yaoguai always get mistreated as these stories were originally created as omens, demons being the symbolic nature of desires or temptations, that people have to mentally overcome. It is only in recent media, or even in recent years does the idea that Yaoguai being more than physical embodiments of evil and desire, actually comes into fruition. So I can say that with a lot of modern media, they make these demons a lot more sympathetic, and even relatable to the audience but originally, that was never meant to be the case, and thus any punishment put on the was never meant to cause harm to the audience because you relate to the demon, but rather being a sense of justification because the demon is meant to relate to the hardships of the world. Even in White Snake, it is only with the latest iteration that is it a love story of two people who cannot be together rather than cautious that even your wife isn’t who you think they are. Stories and meanings change over time depending on the audience, but the original intention should always be kept in mind.

Humans can be forgiven for sins because they have that nature in them that they can change and even be more and grow more. Humans by nature are able to reach that point in the wheel of reincarnation, where they can reach, enlightenment through their actions, unlike animals. Animals are meant to wait for their karma to balance out so that in the next life, they could be human to reach that enlightenment but otherwise, if they skip that step, it is considered going against the laws of nature. Even Yaoguai that are considered harmless are still defying their karma by skipping their human steps and waiting for the next life. Nowadays we see a lot of modern media play with Yaoguai struggles and it is great media but Yaoguai were created with the idea of being almost like cryptic or just beings that defy the laws of nature and thus bring chaos. Yaoguai where created with that conception, and I think when looking back on the stories, it wouldn’t be fair to try to put that modern perception of sympathetic villains onto villains that were very one-dimensional. Like nowadays, it can be fun to dissect villains and try to find relatable connections with the audience, but I never want to try to say that was the original creation's intention ever.

I did find a passage when looking more into any references to Peacock in the story and I do see that the Peacock had two disciples I don't think this is what you were thinking cause you said nephews and this is a boy and a girl bird. Also they were not murdered out of spite or anything that they did wrong but because they are... birds, just shot down by an unknowing king. It’s like accidentally fucking around and finding out when he was just going on a completely normal hunt of the day. In reality, there was no way of the king to know that these birds where different from any other he hunted, and while sad was never malicious in his actions. Hunting itself isn't a crime, just that he was unlucky enough to choose far too important targets. Heaven actually does punish the king for UNKNOWINGLY killing birds that just so happen to be under Heaven's protection because the Peacock demanded justice for her disciples. She is right to do so but this does show actual favoritism to the animals over the humans in this rare case because they have a celestial's backing. He was forced to be sick for three years and have his own wife taken from him like how this couple was ripped apart. That is why Guanyin's steed the Jupiter's Rival kidnaps his wife as karma. So if anything this was a human facing punishment for harming heavenly animals.

Again I have never read anything about the Golden Winged Peng having nephews, so if you could send me a link or passage from the book or anything that would be great.

Eiko: Hm.. So you think that what I'm doing to Kei can be considered a "punishment"?

Eiko: *laughs* Well, to be honest, you're actually kinda right.

Eiko: You know, like, I didn't even ask you to forgive me or anything. I just said that I will be okay with any verdict, but I was still voted innocent.

Eiko: And I don't know why you had decided to "save" me and I'm not sure if I even want to know that, but hey, that's still a nice thing to do, right? Especially when you're this cruel and sadistic guard who is hated by almost everyone here.

Eiko: So I was like, "What would make Eiji-kun the happiest man in the world?"

Eiko: And then I realized something.

Eiko: "It would be seeing his older brother in pain".

Eiko: I think I became someone who's so obsessed with everything being perfect because of them, to be honest.

Eiko: And he had a lot of problems too. So we talked about it and we became closer and closer.

Eiko: Eventually, we started falling in love. And this is the first time I've ever fell in love with someone.

Eiko: He promised me a lot of things. He said that he wants to make me the happiest woman in the world, he said that he will do anything to make me smile and that he just wants me to forget about everything that makes me sad.

Eiko: Romantic, isn't it? Well, then he stopped replying to my messages.

Eiji: What, did you kill him because he wasn't online for like two days?

Eiko: It's been four months.

Eiji: Oh.

Miki: F-four months?.. B-but did he read your messages? Was he even online?

Eiko: Honestly, I'm feeling a bit.. lighter? I don't know how to explain, but it's like I really needed to talk about all of this with someone.

Eiko: Eiji-kun, what happened to your arm?

Eiko: Why are you holding it like that? Are you okay? Does it hurt?

Eiko's T2 MV Descrption.

Her MV would mostly have a lot of black and white and also darker shades of blue, green and teal.

Eiko's MV starts with what appears to be a flat-screen TV in a dark room. The screen is glitching and it's hard to tell what's going on until it slowly gets closer and we can clearly see Eiko's face. She appears to be crying and we can see her parents and her younger brother comforting her, though if her father and brother seem to be genuinely worried, her mother is most likely only pretending and she even leaves to answer a phone call. We get a close-up of Eiko's crying face again and then her expression suddenly becomes more emotionless and Eiko finally starts singing. 

We see Eiko sitting on a couch and watching that same TV while wearing an elegant black dress and a hat and we can also see a few young men sitting next to her. If you look closer, you can see that one of them actually looks very similar to Eiji. Also, he appears to be wearing much better clothes than all the other men and he has a calmer face expression than the other guys, who actually look terrified. 

"Huh? What's wrong? Stop feeling sorry for him

Why don't you feel sorry for me? Comfort me, calm me down, tell me he deserved it"

Eiko looks bored and she turns the TV off.  As she's about to get up, the guy who looks like Eiji suddenly grabs the remote and turns the TV on again and we can see Eiko there as well, but now it looks like something has changed. The "real" Eiko walks closer to the TV and sees that the "TV Eiko" looks more happy and the people around her are clapping their hands, praising her for something and her family looks happy for her too, though we can't see her mother's face expression this time. 

"Wait, are you telling me you've solved it?

Even though you have all the facts, you still think I was in the right?"

The real Eiko starts to realize something and she smiles brightly and turns back to those men. 

"Well, I can't just ignore it

So let me give you a reward for your kindness"

And then she presses one of the buttons on that remote and all men disappear except that Eiji lookalike. 

The chorus starts playing and we can see Eiko leaving the house and the whole video becoming brighter and more colorful. Some people stop to greet her or simply look at her as she's walking. 

"Yay, she did it, good for her! What a queen, am I right?

Haha, thank you, thank you! Serves him right, I know

You've forgiven me, darling, so let me thank you properly

Tell me what you want, I will give you everything and more"

Eiko is having fun while shopping and she actually looks happy for real. But as it's getting dark and she decides to go back home, she checks her phone and while she does that, she suddenly trips and falls.

"But I know I can't be lost in perfection forever

Time to open up my eyes, this world isn't as fun and bright as everyone wants to believe"

Her phone breaks at that exact moment and everything becomes black and white again.

Now it looks like she's home now and she's lying on the floor while her parents are talking about something. She just has the same emotionless face expression while her younger brother is poking her cheek and trying to "wake her up". 

"But is it so bad for me to wish for a better life?

Is it so bad for me to want more?

I know I'm not perfect, but don't I deserve better than this?

So come on, promise me a safer world, I'll believe your every word"

She slowly gets up and goes to what appears to be her room and locks the door. She takes her laptop and sits with it for some time until her eyes light up and her cheeks become more pink. She starts typing faster and overall she looks happier. Her room actually looks much softer and comfortable now. It doesn't have that cool and elegant aesthetic anymore, but it feels warmer, maybe a bit more messy, but it's like Eiko is finally acting like her true self.

"Maybe it's okay for me to be happy

Maybe it's okay for me to ask for more

I know you're just lying to me, but please

Let me act like a lovestruck teenager for once"

Looks like a few days have passed and we can see Eiko walking into her room and checking her laptop. Judging by her disappointed face expression, looks like she hasn't received any new messages. 

"So where are you? Are we over? Are we done?

You're not going to keep your promises, are you?

I wish there was a world where I wasn't mad at you

So that I could move on and forget all your lies"

We can also see that person's profile picture which appears to be a cute drawing of a frog. 

She keeps waiting and as she does so, she cleans her room, picks out an outfit, does her makeup.. But still no new messages. As she checks it again, her brother suddenly runs into her room and calls her and she follows him. 

Eiko walks into what is most likely a living room and sees that her parents are watching TV, this one looks more "old" compared to the more "modern" one from the beginning of the video. Eiko stops for a minute to watch it too and we can't see the screen, but we can tell from Eiko's face expression that something horrible has happened and she leaves the room immediately. 

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry for blaming you

I forget about everything except myself when I'm angry

Forgive me for being so selfish

I promise I'll try to become as perfect as you"

Later we can see her crying herself to sleep and when she wakes up, the colors are warm again, but Eiko looks confused for some reason. 

"So are we over? Are we done?

Sorry for asking this, but I just want to make sure

I know you're in pain, but I just want you to keep your promises

So let me act like a lovestruck teenager for once-"

She lifts her blanket and.. she sees that there is actually a frog in her bed. 

She doesn't even panic and she grabs the remote, which was lying on the floor for some reason and we can't see all the details, but it's easy to guess that she used it to hit that frog. However, now we get a close-up of Eiko's face and she actually looks scared this time and it's hard to say what's going on, but there's much more blood on her bed than it was supposed to be and it's also starting to look like it wasn't a frog lying next to her, but a man. We can't see what he looks like because of all the blood though. 

"Yes, I knew you were a liar from the start

But this is even worse than I thought

Why would you do that? Was I not enough for you?

Or actually.. Maybe I was too much?"

Eiko slowly turns around and sees that flat-screen TV again and it turns on. She can see people applauding her and the chorus starts playing again, but now it sounds much slower and more distorted. About YZY leaving YMJ/JFM with her kids Post-WWX Arrival

Dear Dee, feel free to delete or ignore this or post it, whatever floats your boat. This just stuck in my head after those posts and I had to blurt it all to someone. Thanks for taking the time to read my word vomit.

So I had to do this instead of an ask because it got long and I wasn't sure how many asks it'd need or how short I could cut it down without losing parts of the argument. And then other things came up as I was writing and, well.  Well..... >_>;;;; 

But you know, after that post/ask you had about YZY fics saying 'Fuck U' to YMJ/JFM & leaving both with her kids, I had a sarcastic 'yeah right' attitude about it. Mainly due to a lot of negation emotions to such an abusive (and delusional) bitch, partly due to how she wouldn't do that since it doesn't seem to be something her sort of character would consider either because she'd think of it as 'losing' (losing what, IDK, it's why I consider her type of person crazy) or she legit wouldn't think about such a viable action.

But then later, in the shower, I seriously went 'Wait, she can't fucking do that' and it wouldn't be about how MXTX uses her as a part of the narrative but entirely about the/their culture in the novel; the actions that have and would be taken in response; and her entire toxic personality as well.

1) We already know that the sects and the cultivation world in general is sexist, elitist and so Capital T 'Traditional' to the point that it's starting to petrify and any deviancy from this is an exception rather than the norm. YZY might be a madame of a great sect (for what that's worth considering how shit of a madame she's been and the titles she's chosen for herself) but she's still a woman even with her high rank and the things she's personally accomplished.

Even if she was in her rights to leave a 'bad' marriage, she'd be the one who'd get scolded more instead of JFM by her natal family, her former husband's family and by their entire society at large even if she had a few singular supporters. Because That's Not How Things Are Done in their society and I do believe that such a thing was rare even when it was accepted method by the upper echelons. Especially since it would have to be done by more than YZY simply deciding that She Wants Out and just- goes and Gets Out. With no serious allegations that would allow her to divorce or separate from YMJ/JFM without the input from her family, JFM's family and, I think, possibly some measure of compensation as well. And no, having or bringing in a 'bastard child' is not a serious enough offence for such a humongous decision. I think something more along the lines of treason or crimes against multiple, high-ranking parties would be more along the lines. Maybe.

And even if she does this, she'd be considered 'Used Goods' (such a terrible comment) and there'd be no other good/proper marriage prospects for a divorced woman with children let alone a woman like YZY with her entire abrasive personality and attitude put off even easy-going JFM.

(If she'd been widowed then it'd be more forgiven but I consider that a Real Bad End since, IMO, it would lead to the sudden and inevitable decline of YMJ either via mass exodus of disciples and/or residents of LP; being merged with another sect due to it's unstable leadership; or create an internal political war 'cause I bet you anything that the YMJ Elders/relatives (if they have any) Would Not Want YZY in charge of YMJ when she's already proven herself such a shit betrothed let alone madame.)

2) Speaking of families, while YMJ/JFM/LP as a whole might be glad to see YZY's back, I don't think her natal sect, MSY, will be glad to see her come storming back after all the effort they put into getting that particular marriage alliance with YMJ. And if she brings her children with her? Oh man, oh boy- mother or not, that could be considered as kidnapping or line theft (is that a thing?) especially if YZY is also seriously considering divorce proceedings and raising them as Yu and not Jiang. That could give leave to, for anyone more unforgiving and maybe JFM if he's pushed enough, disown both JYL and JWY from the Jiangs through no fault of their own (though I'm sure YZY would make it so as well as blame JFM for her own decisions and mistakes).

Therefore, any inheritance or benefits they might gain for being legitimised children of a great sect are forfeited. JYL will likely lose that betrothal with JZX because JGS will drop it like a hot potato and JWY won't be a sect heir because YZY literally decided to remove that by deciding to raise JWY as a Yu, no matter their blood relation to JFM. They leave him, they leave YMJ and everything attached with it. Which is if YMJ/JFM doesn't demand MSY to give back their heir/ess and to punish YZY for her actions. Or send all three of them back for the appropriate reactions/decisions.

Their society would demand no less in reaction because, to them, it would seem like YZY had gone mad and JFM would look weak (or weaker) and imply that YMJ is vulnerable and exploitable if JFM doesn't do something in response to her actions. That's not even getting into what the other smaller sects may try to do in an attempt to curry favour with YMJ or what LLJ or QSW would try in order to destroy or diminish YMJ. And whether JFM chooses to demand his children back or not, it may not change the fact that this may give him reason enough to choose a nephew or niece to be the new sect heir especially if, even after getting rid of YZY's poisonous influence, JWY grows up to be his mother's child more than his father's or even his own person.

Either way, such a thing would bring great backlash on YZY, and MSY as well as the collateral. No one would want to give face to her or her children because it would bring up some very uncomfortable questions and scenarios to the other sects- specifically, what would happen if the female members of their clans/sets decided to follow the footsteps of YZY and leave with their children and heirs. Especially if they use it as an excuse to leave for their own comfort and whims and not some legitimate wrongs and dangers. That would create some more restrictions on women thanks to YZY

3) And lastly, if any one of those idiot YZY stans think that she'd ever give up the status of being a madame of a great sect they'd be as crazy or crazier than her. YZY is all about status and power and face. Specifically, her status, power and face and how people in her reach reflect her or 'insult' her. She is a selfish, terrible, abusive and toxic person and can only see people in regards to how they would benefit her and the elevation of her and in no other way. Especially her family. They cannot be their own person, they can only be an extension of her and gods forbid they go against her.

We can see this in how she treats the people she supposedly loves. JFM? Arguments day in, day out along with accusations and slander of cheating, having one(1) supposed 'bastard' and being 'in love' with CSSR. Which all seems sus as hell. And that's when she's actually there and not out 'night hunting'. Even her 'training' seems to border on unhelpful rather then helpful if my vague recollections of juniors fainting from exhaustion can be relied upon (please call me out if they're not or find proof).

JYL? Berated by not being 'strong' but not helped at all to be 'strong'. It doesn't help that YZY seems to believe in the same standards strength in their society- that is, of martial masculine strength which does not and should not apply to JYL who has been said to be sickly. Which means h should have been learning a different way of cultivation/fighting anyway.  If that was something she wanted and had been offered in the first place- which I doubt. That isn't even getting into her repeated generational trauma mess of a betrothal which was decided only by those 'sworn sisters', accepted by her as a way out of her terrible home life and puts her squarely within reach of JGS who we know to be a womaniser, rapist, predator and a possible ephebophile considering we don't know the exact age of his youngest 'conquest' or the age of MZY's mother when they met which could be anywhere from 14 to 21.

JWY? Gods, so much meta on him and his(non-) relationships with his parents that I don't think I can contribute more to it. It's been all said and done. Unless people want me to stir the pot by saying that, maybe, just maybe, YZY resents JWY as much as she 'loves' him.Either because he's her son and yet never manages to 'accomplish as much' as WWX or because he's a boy and therefore, more benefits and allowances than a girl/woman- more than anything that YZY ever got without either a fight or screaming at someone about. *shrug*

So, in conclusion to this sudden an unexpected essay that I wrote(I'm so sorry about that, I thought it would be shorter -.-;;;;), YZY leaving YMJ/JFM with her kids? Impossible. Not without some sort of personality transplant or a complete AU. She's too prideful, too bitter, too angry, too everything negative and little positive. She's a resentful product of the values and restraints of her society taken to the extreme negative with a willingness to inflict her pain on others to an abusive degree. But she's also too obsessed and reliant on those same values and restraints to keep up the image of her status. So her? Giving those up? You'd be more likely to see WRH as a doting grandfather than that.

Dee - All of this is true and yes YZY leaving YMJ is highly unlikely. While there will be consequences if she decides to leave, she does canonically lives separately from her husband. They seem to be in a situation where they are married but living separately, which was a common way to end a marriage (at least in spirit) back then. She essentially had all the perks of being Madam Jiang but fulfilled none of the responsibilities.

Afaik, her training the Jiang disciples is a donghua thing? I may be wrong but I recall she spent most of her time nighthunting.

As for taking her children along with her- that's completely impossible. At that point, children were the property of the father. She could leave but she would've never been allowed to take JC.

This is targeted at your dream apologist post, just to be up front. Just wanted to give my two cents in on some of the stuff w/o doing a whole rebuttal, since… I don’t really want to lol. To start off, I had an issue with how you framed the beginnings of Lmanberg. How Lmanberg formed wasn’t colonizing, it was just independence from the greater dsmp from a set of members that disliked the way things were ran by Dream (and by more direct extension, the rest of the dsmp citizens, namely sapnap.) Dream was protecting his power, not any kind of attachment made to the server, I’d argue, becuz in the end the way he relinquished control was by gaining more; by getting leverage over one of the original members, Tommy, via taking his discs.

Another thing, you shouldn’t be angry at ppl for not feeling sympathetic for a character that’s done such heinous things against other characters. You’re more then welcome to feel bad for him yourself, but no one else has to. After watching the whole of Tommy’s exile arc, it’s very clear to see the Dream was cruel and horrible to a child that hardly deserved it. Dream was dehumanizing to Tommy. Making him put all of his self earned items into a hole every visit and promptly destroying it all, telling Tommy that his friends don’t miss him, blowing up Logstedshire after finding Tommy’s secret room (that he hid from Dream to stop him from destroying it) filled with Tommy’s resources for escaping, not even allowing him to leave, these aren’t the actions of a good person put into a hard place, or a person with trauma dealing poorly with said trauma. That isn’t justifiable. Dream shouldn’t be allowed to hurt and inflict trauma onto another person becuz he has trauma. What he did to Tommy and to his friends (saying he didn’t care about them, saying he only cares about Tommy’s discs, Sapnap even had that sad moment of “you don’t think he meant it did you?” which. Yknow. Look between the lines methinks) was awful and doesn’t have to be forgiven by either the victims or the fans of said victims.

My opinion on the prison stay is…. I don’t really care lol. I definitely do see it as he deserves it, because what he did to Tommy was horrific. I don’t have any real sympathy for an abuser, especially one that does shit that I’ve had done to me before and done against a character I relate to heavily. So. Sue me if I think that Dream should have his shit rocked. Ignoring that Dream had very clear reasons as to why he was put into the prison and the fact that many characters have reasons to hate his guts and also not feel sympathy for him is…. Definitely the Dream apologist mantra. Noah fence ^^

One last bit since this ask is getting real long, but it was narratively cathartic to see Dream actually receiving punishment for his actions. Cathartic quite literally means “psychological relief through strong emotions” so. Yeah. Sorry ppl were getting it mixed up with catharsis, but there’s the word they probably meant to use. Didn’t realize it would be such a crime to mix up two very similar words but what can you do with a younger audience.

This isn’t meant to be an attack, or mean, so I’m sorry if I’ve been a little passive aggressive in my wording, but to be fair. Your post was as well ^^ Cant wait to hear your response, if you feel like giving one.

Alright, so first as a quick disclaimer, I’m going to out a summary of the original post’s points, just to ensure that we’re on the same page;

The post does say:

- don’t dehumanize c!Dream because it continuously hurts people who relate to and/or sympathize with him, also dehumanization in general is an inherently wrong mindset

- don’t attack people who sympathize with him because he’s a victim of abuse besides other things

The post never says:

- you cannot hate c!Dream and not sympathizing with him is wrong

- the things c!Dream has done are to any degree excused

- don’t dehumanize c!Dream because he’s a good person

- people who dehumanize c!Dream are real life abuse apologists

If you read the post and didn’t get these points from it, i advise you to reread it as I made pretty much all of these abundantly clear.

I don’t know why you’d start talking about L’manberg, but sure; I never said it was colonization. I said some people who have had their country colonized relate to him because he had his home torn apart and is desperate to return it back to its original state. This is a completely valid reason to relate to him as it is a pretty big part of the character.

Dream wasn’t protecting his “power”, because he didn’t actually have any power on the SMP besides technically owning it. Before L’manberg, all he’d do is walk around, fix creeper holes and the prime path, jump into conflicts and end them if they got too pointed - he even fixed Tubbo’s house once after Tommy burnt it down, he got unfairly mugged by Sapnap and Tommy because he had weaker armor etc. He never used his position as landowner unfairly and was on the same level as any other member; his only concern was too keep the community united and semi-peaceful. Of course he had an attachment to the server, it had been his home for months, maybe more on the SMP timeline.

Do you genuinely think listing the bad things he did is going to do anything to my empathy or the empathy of other c!Dream fans?

I saw the entirety of the exile arc live, and I saw what was happening, and I hated it, and I hated c!Dream. Yet I’m sympathetic to him when he goes through a similar situation, perhaps because I’m not a biased hypocrite.

I never said c!Dream was a good person. Saying “these don’t look like actions of a person with trauma” doesn’t make sense to me because, as you said later on, it isn’t justifiable either way. I’m not saying anyone has to forgive him. You don’t need to forgive an abuse victim for their prior actions to recognize their situation is messed up. You’re making up points to fight against in your rebuttal that I never actually said.

I’m not saying “don’t dehumanize c!Dream because he’s a good person”. I’m saying “don’t dehumanize c!Dream because he’s a person and dehumanization is wrong” and “people who relate to him shouldn’t be hurt or harassed”.

He didn’t even do “terrible things” to his friends, by the way. Tommy has said like five times that he doesn’t care about anyone but the discs but when he said that isn’t true his friends believed and forgave him. Dream says it once while something that matters to him is being threatened, so that it doesn’t get destroyed, and suddenly he’s hurting his friends (double standard methinks). As if he didn’t repeatedly try to help them and care about them up until that point and they abandoned him even despite his prior actions. He did things that might’ve hurt them, but that doesn’t compare to the amount of things he did for them. Saying he doesn’t care is blatant mischaracterization.

If you think (fictional) people who have done bad things deserve to be horribly abused and have their basic human rights violated, you know what, you do you. Be a fictional abuse apologist, be as bad as the people who say c!Tommy deserved it, go on. I disagree with you however, and I’m sure many people who are actually sensitive and care about/relate to fictional abuse victims (I have seen many c!Tommy apologists say the torture is awful and he doesn’t deserve it, thankfully) will disagree as well, so why should I care about your wrong opinion? If you’ve dehumanized him and are failing to see you’re incorrect and hurting people, bad for you. You’re just proving me right that this is a very real problem that this community has to do something about.

Jake meeting Amy’s brothers trough the years (partnership/relationship)

- We know how he meets David in canon, but I think he met him before at family gatherings but never really interacted with him because Amy'd just maneuvre away from him all the time

- the first one he meets is Julian, the second youngest. Julian actually lives in Brooklyn too, and Julian ends up in the drunk cell of his sister’s precinct, something she will never let him forget for the rest of his life, probably (at least he thinks that’s what she told him while he was lying on the bed in there, when the uniformed officer that had recognised his last name had brought her in). But once he’s sobered up in the morning, he’s let out to sign the last paperwork by some dude named Peralta, and he hands him a cup of coffee the way he loves to drink it, which must be Amy’s doing, so she’s probably forgiven him. So Julian makes extra sure to watch this Peralta, listen to the jokes he makes about how he’s “always wanted to book a Santiago into his paperwork pile”, but “got the wrong one”. They meet again two weeks later, when Julian’s pub crawl brings him to Shaw’s. Amy tries to hide so her brother doesn’t notice her amidst her squad, but Jake invites him to sit down for a moment, buys him a beer he definitely can’t afford to pay for later, and he and this pug-looking little guy next to him ask Julian for embarrassing Amy stories. He definitely delivers. He gets Jake’s phone number after that evening, not for any improper things, of course, just to check in on his sis without her noticing and maybe, maybe grill Peralta a few times about his intentions. He’s seen the way he looked at his sister. He sees the way he looks at his sister at Nochebuena too, the first year her new boyfriend is invited. That’s when Julian scrolls through their text chat, noticing that it has become seemingly endless, filled with snapshots of Amy and sneaker sale signs and adorable dogs they both see on the streets of Brooklyn, and adds Jake to the Santiabro group chat.

- the second meeting is actually with a set of brothers: Alonso, fifth-youngest, just two years below Amy, and Jorge, the third, 2 years above her. They’re the only ones free, aside from their parents, to attend a ceremony for Amy and a group of other officers that responded to a distress call and earned themselves a medal. Jake introduces herself as ‘Amy’s partner’, and they both know what that means in cop-speak, but they also know that Amy talks about him far more than about anyone else in her team. Alonso, recently divorced and still bitter about it, is not too happy about that, either, while Jorge, Amy’s supportive adult shoulder in their household, is mostly concerned (and ever so slightly intrigued - Jake seems nothing like any of the guys she’s ever brought home). Jake makes an acceptable first impression in his dress blues and with his good behaviour dialed up to 11 with his Captain watching him, but he definitely wins far more when Amy finally comes down from the stage and gets pulled into a bearhug and a quick princess twirl before she can even say hi to her brothers.

- the third meeting goes to Benedict, the youngest, when he gets into the New York University and Amy offers to help him move into his dorm, showing up with Jake on her heels. Benedict was expecting Teddy, that dull piece of human toast, but maybe Teddy isn’t quite so into carrying heavy boxes and making ridiculous “our boy’s so big already, in college, can you believe it, Ames” jokes. Jake seems to enjoy both. Benedict also gets Jake’s number - for emergencies, since he’s now Santiago No 3 in Jake’s “hometown”, so if anything ever happens and No 1 and 2 are not there to help, Jake obviously feels like he needs to step up. He’s bombarded with questions about the academy after Benedict’s first half-term, has to promise not to tell Amy, and waits another year while Benedict fights through the NYU before he helps him fill out the academy applications he’s finally decided to print out. He’s already Amy’s boyfriend by then, so he has to tell her, he says, and she’s not as angry or worried as Benedict thought she’d be. Maybe Jake is a good influence on her in that way.

- the fourth meeting seems the most important, at least to Amy. No one in her family knows about Jake as... well, her Jake yet when he shakes Matteo’s hand. (In another sense, they all know him as her Jake only, sometimes forgetting he’s a cop too and actual co-worker instead of just her best friend.) Matteo’s closest to her in age, only a year above her, and they’ve been mistaken for twins during most of their teens. He’s her counterbalance, her partner-in-crime, her accomplice and confidant, and he’s the first who gets to hear the title “Jake, my boyfriend”. He knocked on her door for dinner at their favourite place for whenever Matteo visits, and Jake was the one to open the door, so an introduction seemed necessary. Matteo changes their reservation to 3 people on his phone, and Jake can’t even try to protest before ‘the twins’ pull him into an Uber. It turns into one of the best evenings he’s had with the Santiagos so far, because Matteo is Amy’s twin, in all his manners and interests, and if there’s one thing Jake loves to talk with and joke with, it’s two Amys. They hug each other goodbye after dinner and two separate Ubers to Amy’s apartment and Matteo’s hotel, and Matteo says “I think I’ll see you around a lot, Jake” instead of the curt “see you” that Teddy got, and Amy kisses Jake long and thoroughly once their Uber drives off.

- the last meeting feels like Victor Santiago all over again. Alejandro, the oldest of the family, has refused to hear a single good thing about this Jake, not when he was Amy’s co-worker, not when he was her friend, and especially not now that he’s her boyfriend. He’s not good enough for ‘his little girl(sister)’, and he never will be. No matter how nice and friendly he is to all the tias and abuelas at this family party. No matter how helpful he is with Camila in the kitchen and the dining room. No matter how well he chats with the other Santiabros already, who all seem to know him and be on his side (well, sans David, of course. David doesn’t pick sides, that would be unfair). So when he finally finds him alone on the porch, dipping out for a ‘non-smoke, but Santiago break’ as he’d jokingly called it, Alejandro doesn’t wait for pleasantries or attempts any smalltalk. “Amy has been hurt in the past.” He says straight into Jake’s, frankly, mortified face. “By her co-workers and work. By her so-called friends. By her ‘partners’.” Jake definitely hears the hateful inflection in that last word. “So if you add yourself to that list of people who hurt her, I don’t think I need to explain exactly what my brothers and I will do to you.” “I’d get to myself first, to be honest.” Jake replies with a nod. “And I think I would do more damage than all seven of you combined.” It seems the stereotypical answer a boyfriend should give, right behind “Get in line behind her best friend Rosa”, but there’s a sincerity and hurt in Jake’s eyes that surprise Alejandro. He’s still not good enough, obviously. But he might be good.
