I think it’s normal to not want to interact with a guy who would relentlessly sexually harass you out of the gate and then sling verbal abuse at you the moment you turn him down. That’s normal. You can’t make that avoidance angsty from the perspective of the harasser in question without coming across as Posting Apologetics.

This is because you would very literally be Posting Apologetics.

Making an abuser a sympathetic sadboy and turning them experiencing social consequences because of them abusing people into angst material is abuse apologism.

zuko is protecting himself from ozai here. he has been in physical danger from ozai at least two other times prior to this. (three, i think, if we’re counting comic canon, but i know that’s contentious.) he is taking necessary precautions. acting like that is a bad/weak/immoral thing for him to do is abuse apologism, there’s literally no other word for it.

If the Miraculous writers want to make the point that abuse victims are immature and infantile and volatile and need to be controlled by an authority for the sake of their own and the greater good, and therefore Adrien simply cannot be treated as an equal to the Great Marinette, then... I don't think they should be writing the two of them as a romantic couple. The inherent power imbalance is just no good.

I need everyone to understand real quick that part of the cycle of abuse is that people who experienced abuse in childhood are often vulnerable to getting into abusive relationships later in life, because they've internalized it as normal. Which is why "Ty Lee and Mai were not abused by Azula, all their trauma responses were from their families" is a gross thing to say.

And, in fact, it's because Ty Lee has trauma related to not feeling like her own person that she wound up in Azula's shadow, and because Mai has trauma related to feeling like she can't express herself that she was drawn to Azula's destructive personality.

But it's also canon that both of them left her in the end because they didn't want to be ordered around, threatened, or killed anymore, so I'm not interested in "actually she treated them surpringly well." It's abuse apologism and nothing more.

Oh my friend, I hope one day you see that MAPs are human like the rest of us and not inherently abusers. I hope one day you see that they too cannot control what they are experiencing, but they can control whether they abuse or not. Because they are people just like you and me, who are capable of deciding right from wrong, and making choices about their own actions.

Belief in anything otherwise is ableist and abuse apologia. It essentially boils down to thinking that your thoughts and feelings determine your morality, which you'd think you'd understand as wrong if you support people with intrusive experiences (like myself, pedophilic ones included). Believing MAPs are inherently abusive gives way to believing abuse is inevitable, that abusers abuse because they're "just like that" and couldnt help themselves. It removes blame and responsibility; abuse is a choice. Uncontrollable thoughts and feelings and fantasies are not - which, btw, intrusions can be more than just thoughts.

But I know you don't care about a single word I just say beyond it only enraging you more, only solidifying the fact I'm a monster for realizing that MAPs are human and that my intrusive thoughts give me more in common with them than the mentally abled - especially since I too am a paraphile. Chat Blanc and Ephemeral do NOT work as proof for why Adrien should never find out about Gabemoth, or why the love square identity reveal shouldn't happen.

They only demonstrate why Gabriel shouldn't find out that Adrien is Chat Noir.

Because he will then be able to plan and play out how to dump the Gabemoth and corpse mom reveal onto unsuspecting Adrien the most manipulative, traumatic way possible, with the explicit purpose and plan to akumatize him. And, at least in Ephemeral (Chat Blanc is unclear), he still needed to actually mind control Adrien too, it seemed like he would have resisted otherwise.

If the narrative allowed Adrien the growth to accept that his father is abusive, and capable of being a supervillain, if Adrien was allowed to have the character development to process this on his own terms, then he could have been the one to figure out Gabemoth's identity. It would have been more meaningful, and done more for his character arc, than anyone else making that discovery. It would have connected an important personal breakthrough (abuse victim starting to become a survivor by comprehending that they were abused) with an important plot breakthrough (ladynoir finding out who their enemy is). It would have meant that Adrien, who's been forcibly reduced towards blank, passive "perfection" and significantly denied agency and the capacity to have a meaningful impact, could contribute something even if he then wouldn't be able to directly fight against his father.

Gotta love how people will claim that Zuko either giving Azula a chance to redeem herself (like Iroh and Aang did to him), or at the very least not abusing his new authority over her while she's literally unable to tell if he is even real, is abuse apologism, but having him looking all defeated and asking advice to the man that literally burned his face and tried to kill him is a sign of "further character development", not character regression AND flat out saying "Your abuser knows better than you, listen to him."

Fuck Yang for writting this, fuck Bryke for letting him, and fuck the parts of the fandom that think this is good message/narrative choice.
