Too tired rn to work on the scenario I'm supposed to be so here's persona (3-5) characters as gift givers

Minato: good but the timing is never expected. He'll just see or make something, go "hn, they'd like this" and not wait for a holiday or birthday to hand it over. On the flip side unless he's made promises he's probably forgotten to get gifts ahead of time.

Hamuko: excellent gift giver, and she even gets the timing right. It's never something you'd thought to ask for though. Always something useful or that you really like, but never what you'd think up on your own.

Mitsuru: It's not that she's a bad gift giver- far from it- it's just that she's got a sort of limited idea of the kinds of gifts to give for any specific event. Unless you ask for something specific, you can probably sort every gift she gives into a few categories. Still, whatever she gives is either extremely high quality or super sentimental. Or both.

Akihiko: help him. He's not "the worst gift giver ever" or anything but he never knows what specifically to give someone. Well not never. Occasionally he strikes gold and we love him for the effort either way.

Shinji: I don't want to say bad, but how often do you really expect he'd bother at all? Not a big "gifts" guy. More likely to cook for you if you're close enough for him to bother doing anything at all. He's sweet under everything, but that doesn't make him great at gift giving.

Yukari: decent gift giver. Consistently gives good, appropriate gifts. They may not be "the best gift from x holiday" but you know you'll like anything she got you

Junpei: mixed bag. On one hand he can absolutely figure out great gifts, on the other hand he might get sidetracked and get you something he'd like without realizing. Unless he really likes you, in which case he may take it far more seriously.

Fuuka: she's good at it! As she gets older she gets better at giving gifts. She may even make you little tech things if she can.

Aigis: that super depends on how close you are. If you're not very close you might get, like, a gift card. If you are close she may try to find something specific for you. Whether she succeeds in getting you something good also is kind of a coin toss. She's not awful at it though.

Ken: he tries! He usually even succeeds!

Koromaru: he is a dog. He gives you his time and love, what else could you ever want.

Yu: Great gift giver! He cares so much all the time. Probably the type to go "Oh they would like this" and get something right away to give later, at a more fitting time for gifts.

Yosuke: man he tries is best. He would be the best gift giver we're it not for money. As is he does what he can with what he's got.

Chie: im so sorry to say, middling gift giver. She's perfect at giving gifts to certain people, and awful for others. Hope you'd be on the former side.

Yukiko: so long as she hasn't decided to cook for you? Genuinely good a giving small gifts. Larger gestures are a bit awkward so she's more likely to give you a dozen small gifts than one bigger one.

Kanji: FANTASTIC gift giver. 10/10. He makes all his gifts himself and they're perfect and if you have any complaints you're wrong.

Rise: good! Rise is a pretty solid giver of gifts. Might even give the occasional super great gift if she really likes you.

Naoto: solid gift giver. She rarely if ever disappoints with her choice of present. You will always be happy with something if it's from Naoto.

Teddie: his gifts are sweet, that doesn't necessarily mean they're good. Like when a child gives you a gift and you cherish it, of course, but it's not the best thing you were given objectively. Maybe a little better than that.

Labrys: she's okay at giving gifts, but the lack of experience with others shows in how much she struggles to pick one

Ren: great. Maybe a bit spontaneous with when he actually gives gifts, but great. Always has something for holidays/birthdays, but the best gifts you'll get will be the random ones

Ryuji: actually great too, but he doesn't have the ability to actually get as many gifts. Besides most of his gift giving is to his mom, so any other gifts to other people are second priority.

Ann: also good! You will never be disappointed in a gift she's given you. Her gifts are also probably pretty sentimental, so you know she didn't just pick something at random last minute. Unlikely to randomly give gifts, though.

Yusuke: boys broke so you're not getting anything that isn't homemade. If he does make you something- or let's be real just if he paints you something- it will be incredible. It's just a matter of if he'll actually remembers to

Makoto: she's doing her best. Sometimes her gifts are a little generic or underwhelming, but you know she's trying. She may even strike gold once in a while.

Futaba: oh she's great at it, she probably has your search history to reference- okay but seriously if you have wishlists she also has your wishlist, so you'll get something you wanted

Haru: sometimes her gifts are a little weird but she's not bad necessarily. Just a solid attempt every time.

Akechi: man I don't know. Could he be good at it? Absolutely. Will he actually go out of is way to get you a gift? Ehhh maybe. Depends where he is in his own life.

Morgana: where's the cat getting gifts? He'd be fine if he were able to.

Sumire: good! Just a solid gift giver, I don't have much else to say.

An anatomy and lighting practice that turned into Ichiji! 😊❤️🎇✨🔥 I’ve been really inspired by @dannymans66 lately so I’ve got #1 on the mind.

So I jokingly shared the lineart for this piece with my friend and said that it looked like a page from a coloring book and the idea humored me so much that I decided to hold a competition. I’ll give you all TWO WEEKS (ending June 4th 2024 at 23:59 EST) to color this picture of Ichiji using the blanks provided below and submit your illustrations here on tumblr with the tag #ichijirecolor (and it’s probably best if you @ me as well @silkentine). I’ll judge all the submissions (with the help of my unbiased mom) and the one that I like the best* will receive a free commission from yours truly :) anything you want!!! ❣️ He never even focused on an ideal type, and didn’t ever think about how he could come across someone he’d want as a lover.

❣️ So, he’d probably meet his partner in a very unexpected way and not in a typical setting.

❣️ Shu’s seen it all throughout the centuries and knows when a girl is interested in him—cliché stuff is just a turn off, and so are suitresses and girls who have obvious interest in him.

❣️ Karl has probably tried to hook him up with different suitresses throughout the centuries, but he’s probably put off marriage so many times that it seems impossible to get him hitched.

❣️ He’s just not interested in matchmaking and makes a game out of it every damn time. He once made everyone think he was actually going to pick one of the suitresses Karl presented, but in the end, he called it off and said he wasn’t satisfied nor ready to make his choice.

❣️ Beatrix grew angry every time he’d reject the girls offered to him, but Karl always reassured her that it would happen, it would just take some time. Hi everybody!

It's June so it's time to give a site update and to thank all our May Patreon subscribers!

So, first, the biggest update is that I've discovered a lot of the Escher Girls Tumblr has been flagged by Tumblr as adult content.  I've appealed dozens and there's still more to do (the weird Tumblr interface means that I can't know how many I have left until I clear out the stack they give me).  It's frustrating because the flagging is clearly done by an algorithm that's just scanning the images for vaguely nudity matching things because this cover got flagged and I'm pretty sure that it's not because of Sue but because of Johnny.  There's a bunch of other images with fire people that are flagged for nudity too because the algorithm can't tell that monocoloured characters are not naked.  Sometimes it's even more baffling how the post could be flagged (such as the She-Hulk one I put with this post.) And the appeals are processed within seconds and seemingly rejected or accepted arbitrarily.  Given the speed that they're processed, I'm 1000% sure no human is actually looking at them.  It's annoying and I don't know how it affects the visibility of the posts, or if some posts are removed entirely without me knowing.

Stuff like this is why I decided to self-host and made a dedicated site for Escher Girls.  I know it's not Tumblr, but I encourage people to check out the main site (EscherGirls.com) because it's an archive that I control and can't be deleted or hidden by Tumblr.  It's also why I mention that Escher Girls has an RSS feed, so people know there's a way to keep up to date with posts outside of Tumblr (and previously Twitter, which no longer functions because they turned off API access). For newbies, simply copy and paste https://eschergirls.com/rss.xml into an RSS reader and it will keep you up to date on EG.

EVERYONE LISTEN UP, THIS IS IMPORTANT!

I'm going to talk about the history of Tumblr, the current state of Tumblr, and why you should get out.

And you can call me a hypocrite, sure. But as an artist who depended a lot on commissions and art sales, I only came back to Tumblr because this is where the audience and active fandoms are. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be here.

So, you've probably heard people calling tumblr "the queerest place on the internet". Probably more ironically that sincerely, lately. But the reason for this is that, at one point, it was true. Tumblr was synonymous with gay shit, all over the internet. That was this site's reputation. To the point that what the right wingers call "woke" these days, used to be called "tumblr shit". Tumblr was the BIGGEST resource for LGBT+ communities, information, advice and connection. That was here, on this site. Ask boxes thrived with friendship and fun games, artists got regular commissions and their work was shared. And, as much of a cliche as it may be to say this, Tumblr was a 'safe space'.

Then everything changed in 2018. I don't know how many of you were here for that, but that's when all this started. That's when we had porn bots. They'd start reblogging random posts, adding pictures of straight up porn. Naked people, straight up fucking. No tags, no warnings. Just uncensored porn and those stupid "click here to fuck me" captions. They were everywhere, constantly. And staff did nothing about it. No moderation, no kind of adding verification or new accounts. They just let the problem fester. Why should they care? Until they were threatened with being kicked off the app store, at least. Then they moved to do something about it.

So, instead of pulling together a human moderation team, or temporarily limiting new accounts, or doing any kind of intuitive policing of these spam bots, they just decided to make a blanket ban of all NSFW content, the enforcing of which would be carried out by AI bots. This, as you can probably guess, was a monumental failure. Anything that remotely looked like naked flesh was tagged as mature (a particularly infamous example features a picture of sand dunes being tagged as mature). And perhaps most tellingly of this failure, it didn't get rid of porn bots.

What it did get rid of though, was artists. Myself included. I was a mature artist. I had a NSFT sideblog. I sold commissions, I made money. It wasn't exactly career level, but I made enough that commissions helped me to eat when all my money went on bills. Then that was gone. Even SFW art wasn't entirely safe, because if the bot decided that your art had too much "skin" in it, you were flagged. (And at the time, I drew a lot of Jojo art, so I was screwed on that front.) So I had to leave. To find a new site where I could post my art, and try to continue selling commissions. The problem with this? Only a handful of people followed me offsite. I had roughly 300 followers on here. About 5 came with me to twitter. And then about 2 came with me to pillowfort. I had lost everything. Artists all over lost their following, lost their support, lost their income. All because people couldn't be bothered to boycott their funny fandom website.

But that wasn't all. Because now staff saw they had an opportunity. This bot they had created, was going around flagging anything mature, sometimes outright deleting posts or banning blogs that were too 'NSFT'. So... What group is often inherently seen as NSFT or sexualised? Yep, you guessed it. The queer community. And so that's what they did. They struck it all down. The biggest LGBT community on the internet, and they used the "porn ban" excuse to start flagging and deleting blogs. Never touched the nazi blogs, or the white supremacists, or that one blog that would doxx gay people in homophobic countries. Nope, they were left alone. But the most prominent, notable and well known queer blogs were gone. And again, the majority of the userbase was ok with this. They stayed.

I left this site for 5 years. And I tried to make it work elsewhere, I really did. I went to twitter. But over there nobody retweets work, nobody comments on your art. I only had like 2 regular supporters. I haven't gained followers in YEARS. Literally the only reason I still post to twitter is because Airdorf retweets FAITH fanarts. I tried going to pillowfort, which is honestly like a BETTER version of Tumblr. But, it was empty. Nobody was there. I even offered to give out free invite links to pillowfort so other people could join up too! Nobody ever responded to me. So I gave up. After 5 years with almost no interaction, almost no commission sales. No friends, nobody to talk to, nothing to do, nowhere to go... I came back here. And interaction is so much better (even though it's still a struggle to get people to actually talk to me). But I hate being here because I know what this site is like.

Also I know how complacent people are. The things they did back then, they're still doing now. Flagging trans women as mature, straight up banning them for no reason, spreading around campaigns of hate. Its STILL happening. And you're all still here sitting "oh this is awful, this website is transphobic" and then go back to reblogging memes. I saw a poll recently that asked what people would do if tumblr closed down or kicked them out, and the majority answer was just "give up social media completely" and it's like, really? There are plenty of alternatives out there. Artists and creators, and LGBT activists and whoever have been BEGGING you to join us, but you just wont. People would rather sit in this sinking ship till it goes down than make the leap and follow us into the lifeboats.

And I'm saying this again now because there have been talks about tumblr making a deal with midjourney. Because they want to feed all our art, our selfies, our hard work into the AI slop machine. So history is repeating itself again, and once more artists will be begging you to please come with us. Please get off this site. Please come to a place that isn't actively trying to get rid of us.

Me... I'll be staying here as long as I'm able because this is the only place I have any kind of audience. But if you can, if you care about friends, if you care about artists, if you care about queer people. PLEASE come with us. If the worst comes to it, then I'll be leaving for pillowfort. Here we are again… back again with another year down. Wow time really does fly by doesn’t it? My Anniversary for my tumblr was back in August but I was not really active until near the end of the year, (sorta) So I’ve decided to welcome the new year, with a ‘get to know artist’ post. An art advice?

I’m honestly still an artist noob so take what I say with a grain of salt. But for those starting out drawing, don’t worry about finding your art style it will develop in time while you learn and improve as well when you discover your likes and dislikes. I know one of the common advices usually given to find an art style is to reference off your favorite artists, it can work for some but for many others this advice doesn’t work, sometimes it can create a perfection of wanting to copy someone else art style or getting frustrated that it doesn’t look similar to your favorite artist style. But I promise patience and practice will pay off, don’t be afraid to indulge a bit out of your comfort zone and explore different styles, besides you may find yourself surprised with what you discovered.

What and when did you play obey me?

I start back in early April, I kept getting ads for it on my Instagram and at some point I got tired of seeing it (and thought somebody in the universe really want me to play the game) and decided to play it, I didn’t think much about it and it was mostly something to kill time and I could have deleted it later when I got bored.

Which of the brothers and side characters would I get along the best?

If I’m being honest I feel like I would get along with the majority of the cast, there always seems to be something I have in common or could do with the characters, I’ll start with the brothers first and also keep it short.

Lucifer: listening to classical music together or attending classical music concerts.

Mammon: ??? (actually the least brother I have common with)

Levi: video games, discussion of franchises and theories, etc.

Satan: appreciate cats and learning new things and intake of knowledge.

Asmo: I’m a rat so I love me some gossip while also doing self care. 😘

Beel: late night food runs or sneaking in the kitchen late a night to eat something (I do that in RL anyway)

Solomon: It works and I won’t elaborate. But I will say I will be with Solomon and Barbatos on a hot summer day with the AC on full blast cause we can’t stand the heat. (I heat up so quickly and are much more prone to a heat exhaustion, so you probably guessed that summer isn’t my favorite season.) 😘

If I’m being honest I didn’t really had one? But I had a very light crush on mammon. If that counts for anything.

hi guys <3 since invisible string has wrapped up, there's been some things on my mind lately that have made posting a little less fun than i would like... i figured that i sort of just wanted to get it off of my chest before i dive into my next fic. i sort of feel like an ass for even mentioning this stuff but i've seen so many other writers having the same issues as well.. nobody has to read this at all - i guess this is just a clue to where i'm at and my relationship with writing on tumblr right now. this might be a bit of a doozy so i do apologize, i don't mean to sound whiny but truly i just want to get it off of my conscience.

also i want to stress that this has nothing to do with the people that have been continuously kind - i've been reading ur messages and comments regarding the final part of invisible string and i am quite literally over the moon with happiness, ilysm

firstly i want to say that you, my readers, have been so lovely. i know my account is not huge and i do not complete requests in a timely manner, but you all have shown me so much love and positivity that i cannot even fathom. i feel silly talking about "negative" things bc all of the love and support that i receive significantly outweighs the bad, but unfortunately i'm only human.

i've seen countless other writers talk about this as well, but the interaction blues are so real. it feels so contradictory to say this because all i'm doing is typing a silly little story, a fanfiction, at that, so i am absolutely nowhere near being a sophisticated writer... therefore i do not at all feel entitled to reblogs or comments or anything of the sort. but at the same time... it is so discouraging to work so hard on a piece, trying to frame it just right and even adding moments thinking, they'll love this... only for the notifs to be flooded with only likes and demands for a next part. and i absolutely know that these readers mean no ill intent whatsoever, it just feels disheartening at times, like guys can we please just appreciate one thing at a time? it almost makes the writer feel like they haven't done good enough, and it's such a shitty feeling after working so hard. just please remember that tumblr writers are people, we're doing this in our free time and writing for free (despite the silly little tumblr tip jar feature) - if there's a piece or a writer that you enjoy, please let them know! comments, reblogs, messages, all of those do so much to help support the writer and it's so encouraging.

the next point being, the echochamber that is fanfiction. i've pretty much fooled myself if i thought that i could come on here and have a solely original idea. it is still so frustrating sometimes despite how hard i try not to take it seriously. it does feel stupid to take fanfiction seriously but anyway... lately i've been torn between supporting all of the amazing writers on this app and the feeling like i don't want to read anything that appears in the ellie tag anymore. i can be working away at a piece for weeks, and then read someone else's work that has something similar and i feel like i have to delete the things that i've worked on because i never want to seem unoriginal, especially when you're on the flip side of it.. it sucks. it feels like you have a special idea, no matter how big or small, and the second that you post about it, it's everywhere. again, the echochamber. i'd be hard pressed to be able to put something out that someone else hasn't also done, or to put something out and not have other people use it too. it still just feels stressful sometimes, trying to make something about your work special so other people want to read it.

which brings me to my next thought... writing for engagement versus writing for fun. obviously we all want our work to be supported. it's sad when you work hard and it's just not. so yes, always support your writers. but with that, i really want to try to keep that joy in writing, and to not get overwhelmed. my next fic is going to be purely for fun. it is frankly so annoying to research the game or replay it over and over just to make sure every single detail is perfect. that isn't fun to me, i don't want to make something that is word for word and scene for scene something that already exists. i want to make it my own, with different worldbuilding and details for my own storytelling. if you're someone who has an issue with creative changes or inaccuracies from the game- my works may not be for you, and that's okay. i'd rather miss out on some readers than have people comment about something that is wrong.

i know this is all so much and it is a bit ridiculous, i don't think i'm the only one though. it gets a bit much to play into the social aspect of this community, not just writing but trying to appeal to everyone or making sure that all of the other accounts like me.. which just, isn't always going to be the case. with that being said, please remember that i'm a person and i have a job and i'm in college, it's hard to get on tumblr and write when i have huge essays due every night. just keep that in mind, if it takes me a long time to update or post it's not because i'm purposefully trying to make you suffer, there's just other things going on. please have courtesy for writers, please support writers. with all of that being said, i do hope i don't come off as a total drag. again- to all of you who have been nothing but kind and supportive, i love and appreciate you all so much. you are actively making this community and this hellsite a better place, so thank you for that.

Browsing through a hard disk, I stumbled upon an old edit I did of Hogwarts castle with many Pride flags on its spires. Now I’m going to tell the story behind this picture.

Back in June 2020, after Harry Potter’s author started vomiting her anti-trans rhetoric, I found a nice picture on Instagram of Hogwarts castle from Universal Studios Park in Florida with many Pride flags photoshopped on it. The message was about Hogwarts always welcoming anyone, no matter what HP's author says. The trans flag stood out higher over the other flags to show particular support to the group that was, and sadly still is, being targeted. Since I liked it very much, I shared it here on my Tumblr blog, crediting the people who made it (as I always do whenever I share something that it is not mine).

The thing is the Lesbian flag was nowhere to be found, but I honestly didn’t notice when I posted the picture. Why the authors omitted it, I can’t tell. Probably their focus was on the Trans flag, or perhaps they just forgot. Whatever the reason, they surely had nothing against lesbians: they included the Lesbian Pride flag in other edits they made.

After I published it, the post went literally ablaze, with an incredibly large number of interactions that just kept skyrocketing by the minute (which is unusual for a blog consisting mostly of reblogs like my own). While the picture and the message were generally appreciated and understood, a lot of people were vocal about the missing Lesbian flag, accusing me of omitting it on purpose and, long story short, of being lesbophobic (no matter how I clearly specified that I merely shared and didn’t make the edit).

Out of rage and concern that some trolls might go on Instagram and harass the original creators, I impulsively deleted the post. What made me particularly angry was both the accusations of discriminating against Lesbians, whom as a Gay man myself I actually see as sisters in this heteronormative world, and the fact that none of those folks who complained had never bothered to reblog any of the important articles and petitions about LGBTQ+ rights I shared on my blog. A missing flag in an edit I shared caused much uproar, but LGBTQ+ people (including Lesbians) being persecuted and killed was treated as an inconsequential matter here. And this is the issue with many toxic tumblrinx, who see themselves as experts and activists of LGBTQ+ rights, when all they do is shipping same-sex fictional characters, prioritizing them over actual LGBTQ+ people.

Someone commented that I shouldn't use the “big tags” (I guess they were referring to #transphobia and #trans rights), for “this crap.” Well, whenever I used the big tags for really important matters, this person never showed up; I know because those posts usually get three reblogs at best.

There were even people who took the time to make memes about the missing Lesbian flag. Again, they had time for this, but they could never spend a few seconds to reblog important posts I shared. But also: they opened Photoshop to make those memes, but none of them thought about using it to add the missing flag.

I suspect that maybe not all but certainly some of those people who stirred such a shitstorm were transphobes, who tried to shift the concern on transphobia to something else.

The specific Gay/Vincian flag was also missing in the picture: since I am a Gay man myself, was I self-discriminating?

So, after I took down the picture, I made an edit of my own with my limited Photoshop skills. Not only I added the Lesbian flag, I added even more Pride flags that were absent in the edit that caused so much controversy. Of course, not every existing Pride flags as that would be impossible, especially considering that more and more orientations and gender identites are costantly identified (mind you, I said “identified” not “invented”). But of course, all of them are valid and identified in the Rainbow Pride flag and its variants.

At the time I didn't post this edit of mine, because right after finishing it, I believed that Tumblr simply wasn't worth it, given what had recently happened. And if I believed that it was possible to separate the art from the artist then, I'm not exactly sure about it anymore in Harry Potter's case. I think that the whole series is tainted by the author's hateful views, and that just keeping it relevant, even without buying official merch, will still fill the author's pocket. However, to give some sort of closure to this matter, here it is:

I'm gonna answer very clearly to this, anon, both for you and anyone else thinking the same thing. I will not answer a second time, so take the time to read it, or don't, but if I get another message like this one, I'll delete it. So I suggest you do take the time to read it, and to understand it.

Point #1:

I do talk about things even when they're problematic, even when it comes to characters I love. But our definition of what's problematic is probably not the same, since for Greens stans I'm automatically someone who is problematic herself. I've never whitewashed my favorites characters or ships, and since you're talking about HOTD: I never said that because there's a right side, said side didn't do anything wrong. I even said Rhaenyra was a tyrant, because it's the truth and everyone who has read Fire & Blood knows what she's done during her reign. Just because she's one of my favorite ASOIAF characters doesn't mean I think she was a really nice person and a good queen. I guess that's why it bothers me when I see comparisons to Daenerys, even though they have parallels, because unlike Rhaenyra, Dany is a hero, not a tyrant.

Point #2:

Not all people who are team Blacks think Aemond deserved to lose an eye. Some people did say it, yes. Just like some people said that Luke deserved to die, or to have one eye removed too. But that doesn't mean all people who are team Greens think that, either, and I'm not gonna accuse every Alicent stan or everyone who loves Aemond to have been delighted to see Luke die. It's called common sense to realize that not all people, even those who agree on many things, do not share the same opinions and feelings on literally everything.

Point #3: I don't let anyone answer for me. I answered about a scene and doesn't feel the need to repeat myself or to talk about one scene to death. People who disagree with me are welcome to disagree, but there's no point in telling me again and again that I should have a different point of view. If we're not gonna agree, we're not gonna agree. Why should I argue with someone for I don't know how long about the same thing? So we can both end up losing our calm, be rude and insult each other? I'm not interested in doing this.

Point #4:

That being said, everyone has the right to comment my posts, add text and/or tags when reblogging them. I haven't seen someone saying something I don't agree with, but they also have the right to speak for themselves. If I don't agree with what someone is saying, I'm either letting it go because as I said, I'm done with this discussion about that scene, or if it's something I'm absolutely revolted by, I'll unfollow them (which didn't happen). So yes, you can assume that I agree with what's been said on the reblogs of my posts, even if I didn't confirm it.

Yes, I'm 30. And? If you look at most blogs around here, it's rare to find an age, or a name. I'm one of the people who say their name, their age, their nationality and their gender. I like that people who talk to me know how they can call me, know they can speak french if they want to, know they're not screwing up when they use she/her pronouns. I also added my age because I like people to know a little about me. Many people really want to be anonymous on tumblr, but it's not my case. The point is, you have absolutely no way of knowing the age of those other people you mention. They could be older than me for all we know. You seem to be under the impression that they're all children and I'm responsible for them, but I'm not their mother. This works the other way, too. When I reblog a post, what I say and how I tag it is my responsability.

OK in light of twitter exodus but me being back for a good while we are going to review my existence with tumblr and what’s happened since i left…

So I got hacked like… 3 or 4 years ago? Woke up one morning to my email fucked up, friends messaging me my instagram was spamming ads and all my posts had been deleted, and my personal and art tumblr were both deleted and the url was already taken over. SO I HAD A BAD COUPLE OF DAYS. I was apoplectic, stressed, and honestly after a very disappointing conversation with a tumblr service person who confirmed there was no way to get my account back… I was genuinely mourning for an entire archive of my life disappearing. While also freaking about more important info being compromised.

Because yea i had been on tumblr since like 2011/2012! I was organized! I had everything tagged and sorted and while yes… 8 ish years of stuff was getting a bit unwieldy. And by the time i got hacked i was already a tumblr hold out, they had already banned nsfw content and seen wave after wave of exodus and wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. Someone just made that choice for me lol.

Which brings me to now being back. I am a bit happy, a bit nostalgic that i could get my old url back but i’m also a little irritated like. cmon dude, you destroyed my whole blog and then didn’t even stick around? i’m disappointed in their lack of conviction. I’ve got a universal brand across all other platforms (give me a search as hannahw.draws on insta, tiktok, or twitter) but fuck it. Tumblr has always been the weird outlier so i’m sticking to my roots.

ANYWAYS. I am back, i’m still mostly the same! I still draw, I still knit, i still have cute stupid cats. Medium new stuff is that i’m still at the same job making comics but getting more responsibilities and fingers crossed i’ll be introducing a series in the next year. Got a very handsome and loving boyfriend who I’m smitten with. Many of the same friends and family who are all happy and healthy. Things are going well! And i hope to be as inspired by tumblr stuff as i was back in the day! i’m already having fun and am right back in it.

And in light of all the people coming here from twitter, or melting down about twitter like. i feel you i see you. to have a chunk of your internet identity ripped away from you is not fun. But alas once i made peace with it it really was like ah. such is life such is existence, in the grand scale of the universe but also the history of the internet. So much of its pages are no longer functional and it’s best to accept the fragility of websites now because this will surely happen again in the future. Back up your saves, back up your drives, and have fun ✨✌🏻

Wattpad was a really good site for reading books. Emphasis on 'was'. I think I got into wattpad when I was 13 years old , so this is maybe 2014- 15. Eventhough it had cringe stories ( what fanfiction site doesn't ?) , it was such a good site , I had just gotten a smartphone of my phone, and it had no sim card, so the only way I could access the internet was through the home wifi. So when I went out, my phone was basically useless. But it was apps like wattpad that allowed me to access content without the internet. I could download loads of books so I can read it offline, it was completely free. And I read so many stories, some were cringe, some were mediocre and others were really good. I honestly had so much fun on that app, and so did a couple of my friends.

Fast forward to the pandemic, and I had actually deleted the app when I was in 10th grade to focus more on my studies. So by reinstalling the app, I expected to read a lot of stories during the pandemic. But the minute I opened the app, there were so many changes. There were so many ads, there were content you couldn't access , trial books? And the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that they put a limit on the number of books to be downloaded.

It made me furious, that was the whole reason I loved the app! That I could read stories without the internet, and they took that away!

That's when I hopped over to Ao3 and discovered the joys of filters , no ads and no algorithm . It truly is a relief in this day and age where every website on the internet is made purely to get profit. ( no problem with making profit, but most of the time user experience is sacrificed for it)

And the no algorithm thing weirded me out a bit, ( so did Tumblr, but I learned quickly how it works and it's become my preferred social media site) .

So all the "young ones" out there figuring out whether there's an algorithm to ao3, there's no such thing. Filters are your bestfriend ( I would love to kiss the hands of the person who made tags and filters on ao3, truly they're doing God's work)

AO3 doesn't house 'every random thing' people submit. AO3 is a fannish-transformative work archive. Too many people think of AO3 as a sort of library when its more like a bank or vault for a specific purpose.

For specific content.

Fannish-transformative content. That could encompass RPF, meta, character-based fanfiction, universe-based original fiction, transcriptions, podfics, ect.

Does fannish-transformative content include a large scope? Yes. But its not AO3 is just shrugging its shoulders and saying yeah sure, whatever, post it here. I've literally had works removed because I added the alternative universe (fandom) the fic is based in as a fandom by mistake and not an additional tag, thus making it incorrectly a 'crossover' work.

I came across sort of harsh in my first message, for which I'm wholly apologising, but I'm exhausted and angered by two decades' worth of people looking at AO3 with biased tunnel vision.

AO3 is not a social site. AO3 is not a community site. AO3 is not like Wattpad or Tumblr. The literal purpose of AO3 is to archive content. We're frankly lucky it has the comment functions that it does. Think of AO3 like a massive harddrive, but online. Its Google Drive for fanfiction. That's it.

People have such an un-true perspective on AO3 that it causes constant harm. People demanding functions like private messages, group communities, more social aspects. Demanding censorship and certain community approaches and goals and restrictions.

It. Won't. Happen. Simply because that's not what AO3 is for. Its the same reason why there'll never be censorship, or 'safe spaces' or segregated areas on the site.

Its up to the users, specifically, to craft there work in a manner that telegraphs the intent. Use the tags. Use the author notes. Delete sexualising comments. My actual best advice? Create a Discord server where you can monitor the users accessing it. Craft your community there and use AO3 for what its intended for; hosting.

i've been on ao3 for almost nine years i know what it is. why has fandom culture normalized abuse porn.

like the problem isn't so much the specific rules of ao3 (i mean i disagree with the philosophy i guess but that's also a result of the culture) but with a culture that is actively hostile to traumatized and marginalized people. and don't try to tell me it isn't because there are countless firsthand accounts of how alienating and hostile and uncomfortable fandom can be.

when i wrote my first post i was thinking of a friend's fic, which features a disabled character. my friend got comments on their completely sfw fic assuming it was sexual. some people were mad at them for fetishizing disability and some were into it and both responses were wildly inappropriate for the story. why have we created a culture where it's more normal to sexualize and fetishize disability than to write about it? that culture is actively hostile to disabled people. as a disabled person who frequently writes about disability this makes me feel unsafe. deleting the comments still means you have to read and see them and know that this is how your work is being interpreted. and you can telegraph your intent all you want but that won't give readers critical thinking skills!! like!! sorry don't blame the writer of a sfw fic for the people who automatically sexualize everything.

i also like... never asked for messaging or any other social media feature. yes i'm thrilled to be able to block users but i never asked for that either. but like ao3 does serve a social purpose no matter how much it pretends it doesn't? like? yeah it's an ~archive~ but its main practical use right now is not historical. you can already leave comments on works that go directly to the author-- compared to other sites framing the feedback function as reviews. that has been true as long as ao3 has existed. i don't want it to be a social media and in fact i wish it were less of one.

it is also truly bold of you to assume that i don't already curate my experience. i have my own small communities. i literally do have a discord server and we have an ao3 collection just for our works. i have a fic blog for the express purpose of hosting my fics somewhere that isn't ao3. i have been in fandom for ten years now. and i can understand the purpose and function of ao3 and still disagree with it. you're coming off as really condescending here.

In all honesty, I appreciate the defense, but I would prefer less hostile wording. I’m not one for arguing or forcing my will on others.

But there are points in here that I do agree with.

Please Read

We can disagree on interpretations of scenes and characters. We can see things differently, and we should be able to. As long as we can happily exchange thoughts and viewpoints, that’s what makes a fandom experience enjoyable for me. When people insist on their own way of things is when the joy starts to evaporate. Personally, the moment I see that an agreement can’t take place, I’ll drop a topic and refuse to bring it up with that person again.

This becomes harder when everyone is on anon, and as the asks backlog continues to grow. I can’t expect every new visitor and follower to read all 160+ asks to see if their topic has already been covered. And since everyone is on anon, I have no way of knowing if I’m going around in circles with the same person.

On occasion, I get asks that I know could possibly cause offense, but I never posted anything that I thought was meant to offend. I’m not anyone’s parent or guardian; it’s not my job to protect you from being offended. We control our own reactions to things. If you can’t stop yourself from wanting to argue with someone, please do it on your own platform. Mine is not the place.

I’ll take a break if I need one, but so far whenever it’s gotten a bit stressful, I usually get a sweet ask for something simple and fun that makes me happy to respond. But it can be hard, too. Not only do I have people starting to argue through me, but get asks like this which make me pause and consider if and how to post it, since I know some people won’t appreciate the tone it’s coming in.

I also have received some criticism from a few sources regarding how I’m handling the situation, as well as my responses in general.

To be clear, (and I’m not sure if I need to start adding a disclaimer to all my posts, because I thought this was a given), but I am no way an authority on Devil’s Night, nor do I think I am one. I’m working with the same information and source material you have.

Most everything I say is based on my interpretation of scenes and characters. The only time I think I’m “correct” is when the source material directly supports what I’m issuing as fact. As an example, a few asks ago, someone said they couldn’t believe Emory would have an insta or social media in general. But I brought out in NF she does have an insta, so that’s canon. I only remembered this because I too was surprised that she would have one.

I wanted to know what teenage Emmy was doing with her insta. I assumed it was probably private. Did she take pictures to document how her projects were progressing? Pictures of her grandma? Who did she follow?

How often did she look up Will? Did she have a finsta to follow Will??? That would be funny, but I doubt she’d go through the effort.

That single line lead to so many questions and now the knowledge that she had an Instagram is stuck.

I’m not correcting people just to be right, and if I’m wrong, I’ll happily accept that. But otherwise, it’s all interpretation and each of us can have whatever feelings we want about that.

As far as what I post, I would hope that the people following me would believe that I am not intending to offend anyone or force my view as the only right view. I try to hear everyone out, and comment when I have thoughts, whether I agree or not. Some people think I’ve been too kind and agreeable – agreeing just to keep the peace even when I know it’s wrong – and I understand how it could seem that way. Truthfully, my intent was just to allow other people to have their interpretations, thoughts, and feelings about a scene without trying to make them feel like they're “wrong” or “bad” if it didn’t align with mine.

I’m not sure where the line is, since I’m not about to start fighting with people for saying something I don’t agree with, or for saying it in a way I wouldn’t.

But maybe I can find a balance that will make me seem less inauthentic and less like I think I’m an authority in the fandom space. If that’s how some of you have felt without saying it, then I’m sorry. That was never what I meant to do.

So, since this has gotten a rise out of some and these issues have been brought to my attention, that is the reason I’ve decided to turn off anon or a while. Like I said, it’ll be temporary, and hopefully the situation will cool down. This isn’t to make anyone feel bad for what they’ve done or said. I’m still learning how to properly manage something like this; it’s a highly unusual situation for me, and I hope everyone can appreciate that.
