Katsuki x Reader
You come home to chaos from your daughter and to your husband katsuki sewing a small doll on the couch.
Thread by Thread
The grocery bags crinkled in your hands as you juggled the keys and nudged the door open with your hip. The familiar scent of fresh linen, a hint of Katsukiâs cologne, and the ever-present warmth of home wrapped around you the second you stepped in.
And there he was.
Slouched on the couch with one leg propped up, his reading glasses sliding slightly down his nose, Katsuki Bakugou was threading a needle with terrifying precision. His brows were furrowed, lower lip slightly poked out in concentration as he carefully stitched a tiny dress onto a soft fabric doll. The cream-colored thing had wild hair made of red yarn and mismatched button eyes. You recognized it immediatelyâit was for your daughter.
On the coffee table were spools of thread, safety pins, and scraps of soft cotton. One of his newer clothing sketchesâan edgy streetwear jacketâwas discarded to the side, momentarily forgotten.
Your heart swelled.
âBabe, Iâm home,â you called softly, smiling as you watched him carefully knot the thread.
âHn,â he grunted, not looking up. âLeave the bags on the counter, Iâll put the frozen shit away in a sec.â
Before you could answer, the pitter-patter of small feet thundered from the hallway.
âDaddy!â your daughter squealed, barreling into the room with the force of a natural disaster. Her curly hair bounced behind her, and in her arms she clutched another one of Katsukiâs handmade dollsâthe first one he ever made her. Right behind her came Izukuâs son, giggling with a little toy All Might plush.
âI told you two brats not to run in here!â Katsuki barked, though his voice cracked slightly at the end.
The kids shrieked with laughter, dodging around the couch like maniacs. Your daughter leapt into a pile of throw pillows and popped out with her wild eyes shining. âBut we wanna show you what we made! Look!â she waved her doll in his face.
âThat thingâs half bald now,â Katsuki muttered, but his hands paused in their sewing. You could see the corner of his mouth twitch, fighting back a smirk.
Then, as quickly as they came, the pair of tiny chaos monsters disappeared down the hallway, giggling like madmen.
Katsuki sighed heavily, leaning back and letting the needle dangle from the dollâs side. âDamn Dekuâs kid brings a tornado wherever he goes.â
You walked over quietly, setting the grocery bags aside. âI think itâs cute.â
ââCourse you do.â He finally looked up at you, glasses slipping lower on his nose. âYouâre a damn sucker for tiny loud things.â
âAnd apparently for grumpy men with golden hands,â you said, settling beside him on the couch. Your hand brushed over the little doll he was makingâit had soft lavender fabric, just like your daughterâs favorite blanket. âYouâre making her another one?â
âShe wanted a doll with a cape. Said this oneâs a hero now.â
You bit your lip, heart glowing. âSheâs not the only one who thinks youâre a hero.â
Katsuki rolled his eyes, muttering something about being âjust a dad who sews stupid shit,â but his cheeks pinked slightly. You leaned over, took off his glasses, and cupped his face in your hands.
And then you kissed him.
Warm and slow and deep, the kind of kiss that said this is our life and Iâm so lucky itâs with you.
When you pulled away, Katsuki cleared his throat and looked back down at the doll. âIâm gonna make her a matching one for her birthday.â
âYouâre incredible,â you whispered, resting your head on his shoulder.
And as your daughterâs laughter echoed down the hall, chasing Izukuâs son and a flying plush toy, Katsuki sighed againâbut this time, there was a smile on his lips.

Cannot Hold It, Cannot Control It
(This is my second Britney Spears lyric title. I regret nothing.)
Enid and Crescens (@femmeberlin) have a proposition for Heinrix. 1.8k words
(Explicit: voyeurism, strap sucking, implied D/s, coming in pants)
--
âVan Calox.â
Heinrix is a man not easily startled, but the sound of Enidâs voice unexpectedly intruding on his personal vox never fails to make his spine straighten and his shoulders tense. He is not afraid of the Lord Captain, not by a long shot, but he is unsettled by her in a way that he has yet to reconcile. He levels his heartbeat and keeps his voice clipped. âYes, Lord Captain?â
He can practically hear the rakish grin twisting her lips. âLady de Vahl and I need you in my study.â
Lady de Vahl. The sound of that name alone shakes him as much as the sound of the Lord Captainâs voice. The von Valancius diplomatic liaison is just as unnerving as the Lord Captain herself, in a fashion all her own. Together, they present a most disarming front against the unruliest of petitioners and hangers-on: Enid, all sharp lines and sharp smiles and sharp, shrewd business sense; and Crescens, as shining-sleek and sweet as painted porcelain, like to a pretty trophy in the Lord Captainâs collection at first blush.
But porcelain is sharp, too, when chipped at its edge.
He finds them both irresistible, to his chagrin. Both women are beautiful; both are impossibly out of his reach. Fitting, then, that heâs heard more than enough rumors float around about their fondness for one another. Crescens is lovelier on Enidâs arm than she would be on his own. Enid cuts a more dashing and imposing figure at Crescensâ side than she might at his instead. It is fitting, even if the more sordid details are mere rumor.
That heâs pictured the lewdest of these rumors in the secret dark of his meager, sleepless hours in his bunk is irrelevant. An aberration, just another of many that he might push away, given enough time.
The lift stops, and the doors slide open. Heinrix strides into the Lord Captainâs quarters at a slowed, circumspect pace, careful to compose himself and cool the brief prickle of heat at the back of his neck at the thought of the Lord Captain and her Lady liaison together. He rounds the corner to the study, and his face is a mask of cold indifference.
Enid looks relaxed in her desk chair, as blithe as ever, with her cravat loosened and her shirtsleeves pushed up. As usual, sheâs tinkering with a piece of machinery, a small, square thing, with a button sheâs affixing a shining gold faceplate to. âVan Calox,â she says, flashing him a gap-toothed grin. âCome in.â
Heinrix looks around. âAnd where is Lady de Vahl?â
From beneath the desk, he hears the unmistakable rustle of shifting silk.
And then, a soft, low moan.
Heinrix didnât think he could stand up any straighter, hold his muscles in any more tension, but he feels as if every fiber of his being is strung taut. He must have been mistaken. He had to be. Perhaps theyâve hit a pocket of the warp outside of translation. Perhaps heâs finally going mad. He rubs his temples reflexively, willing it all to be a mistake.Â
But before he can open his mouth to repeat his question, he hears another moan, and the flash in Enidâs eyes is too bright to be anything but sheer mischief.
The Lord Captain nods at a seat round the desk, placed an armâs length to her side. âTake a seat.â
No good can come of this. By all rights, Heinrix should turn around and leave. Whatever depravity the Lord Captain is inviting him to take part in is a tool of Chaos itself, and he should reject such heresy, rebuke it, remove himself from its twisting influence once and for all.
Instead, he takes a step, and then another, and before he can stop himself, heâs rounded the desk and looks down to see the source of such soft, tantalizing sounds.
Crescens looks up at Enid from beneath her silvery lashes, eyes glazed with want, cheeks gone pink with exertion. Her snowy hair hangs in its usual low plaits beneath her ears, and she is dressed in one of her more daring gowns, cut low enough that he can see the pale curve of her breasts rise up against her neckline with every slow, measured breath she takes through her nose. And her lipsâŠ
Enid gently strokes a lock of hair back from Crescensâ forehead, then turns to look up at Heinrix. âTake a seat,â she repeats, each syllable sharp as a clip from her gun, and nods at the chair in question before turning her attention back to the device in her palm.
The toy that curves out from Enidâs loosened trousers is of a sort Heinrix is certainly not unfamiliar with. Such things are popular with those who love to dance at the edge of the Archenemyâs basest temptations, after all, and it has been his duty to see to such dens of heretic hedonism cleared away. Some are even modeled after xenos anatomy; a thing that makes him shudder, even as it makes his blood rush southward.
The cock strapped over Enidâs mound is decidedly human, though. He sees the shape of it every time Crescens bobs her head back, those sweet, rosebud lips of hers stretched out over the molded glass like they were made to fit around it. His own cock throbs in response, and he sits down far faster than he intends, eager to hide his own sins with his fists clenched tight over his lap.
Enid presses the button of the device in her hands, and Crescensâ eyes flutter shut, another moan rising up from her throat. With her thumb, Enid runs a ring around the button - a dial, Heinrix can see now - and as she gently guides Crescens back down to take nearly the whole of the glass cock into her mouth, the other woman squirms, her skirts shifting and pooling out around her with her every move.
âThatâs a good girl,â Enid coos, and the bolt of heat to Heinrixâs groin is nearly more than he can stand, as a wave of searing-bright jealousy surges through him. It should be he praising Crescens, he thinks, and then that heat creeps back up his neck when he briefly - but just long enough to damn him - thinks of what it might be like to receive Enidâs praise instead.
The Lord Captain cocks her head towards him. âShe works so hard,â she says to Heinrix. âSometimes, she needs someone else to take control.â She says all of this almost conversationally, as if they are all of them having a perfectly ordinary discussion in her office, as if she doesnât have Lady Crescens de Vahl writhing at her feet in pleasure with a mouth full of molded glass, as if Heinrixâs own cock isnât painfully hard and aching for him give himself relief.
As if she can read his mind, Enid cuts him a glance. âTouch yourself.â
He should say no, but his own hand has gone heretic, it seems, as he presses his palm to his length and groans. âLord CaptainâŠâ
âThe Lady de Vahl and I have a proposition for you.â She clicks the dial in her hand another turn, and Crescens sucks in a sharp little gasp through her nostrils, her moan pitching up to a whine. Enid caresses her cheek, trailing her thumb down over Crescensâ chin to catch the trail of saliva thatâs begun to drip down from the corner of her stretched lips. âThatâs it, love,â she murmurs, and Crescensâ eyelids flutter open to look at Enid, then at Heinrix, with shining eyes gone dark, her pupils blown wide.
Heinrixâs breath catches. âYou have aââ
âA proposition, Heinrix.â Throne take him, but his name sounds like a vulgar epithet in Enidâs rough voice, and he cannot look her in the eye for too long, no matter how intently she stares. She nods at Crescens, then nods at his hand, a smirk lifting her lips as he rubs at himself with his eyes half-downcast. âFor when you need to lose your own control.â
He cannot even summon a shred of control over his own faculties, his skin gone too hot, too tight, as he feels the flush of shame seem to coat him from head to toe. âLord Captain, if you mean toââ
âI do mean to, Heinrix.â She cups Crescensâ chin to still her movements. âAnd so does Crescens.â
The other womanâs gaze clears for a moment to look up at him, almost coquettish, and she might be smiling around the cock in her mouth. That smile melts when Enid takes to the dial, though, and she screws her eyes shut and swallows down a muffled squeak.
Enid hums in thought. âSuch a useful thing,â she says, tapping the switch in her palm. âNot much work on my part to adjust the vibrations.â
Heinrix bites down on the inside of his cheek to keep from spilling in his trousers. âVibrations?â
âIs this your usual interrogation method?â Enid snorts, her derision unmistakable, and condescending indulgence colors her tone when she continues. âYes, van Calox, vibrations. In the device that is seated in Crescensâ lovely little cunt.â
Crescens whines and hollows her cheeks to bob her head back down, sucking on the toy like it is a cock in earnest.
Enid strokes the other womanâs hair. âSheâd like to suck your cock like this,â she says. âIâd like to watch her suck your cock like this, before I get to have a turn riding it.â
He cannot even manage the Lord Captainâs given name. The only sound that comes from his parted lips is a short, pathetic cry, as his hips jerk up into his own touch and he feels a sticky, fluid warmth that rapidly starts to feel clammy against his skin. âIâŠâ
Through the blood rushing in his ears, he hears the faint sound of Crescens letting out a cry of her own, and the low, dangerous warmth of Enidâs satisfied chuckle. âThatâs it,â the Lord Captain says. âVery good.â She casts an appraising eye over to Heinrix. âBoth of you.â
He should say no.Â
He knows that he wonât.
When Heinrix opens his eyes again, he sees Crescens licking her lips and working her jaw, her head pillowed on Enidâs thigh as the other woman gently strokes her hair. There is a look of utterly satisfied bliss over her face, softening her already delicate features into something perversely angelic. Enid looks softer, too, gentler than Heinrix has ever seen her, and the both of them look to him expectantly, both of them with a glint of cunning in their eyes.
He will be twice-damned for it, but heâs too far gone. âYes,â he says thickly, his tongue almost too heavy in his mouth. âI accept.â

N/A: Here goes my fourth Enhypen one shot! I really hope you all are enjoying them ^^ Ayyy Jakey, my man <3 Honestly, it took me a bit longer to update because Iâm swamped with exams⊠Anyway, I hope I can keep posting more soon ^^
ăïœĄïœ„âĄïŸâą ïœĄâĄïŸïœ„ïœĄ More under the cut

You had gone out shopping with Jay and your boyfriend. Not because sweet Jay was playing third wheel or anything like that, but simply because the three of you shared a mutual friend and had decided to go out that day to buy him a birthday presentâSunooâs birthday was just around the corner.
So here you are now. Standing in front of a shop window, arguing about what kind of things Sunoo might like.
âDefinitely something cute. A big, adorable plushie, just like him,â argues Jake, your beloved boyfriend, glancing at your friend Jay, who just purses his lips.
You donât say anything and let them argue.
Suddenly, you tune out of the conversation and out of any thoughts about Sunoo, who had been your friend for many years.
However, now you can only think about Jake. About Jake and how good he looks in that casual plaid lumberjack shirt that looks so good on him. About Jake and the way heâs rolled up his sleeves to show off his muscular, slightly veiny forearmsâperfect for maybe biting a little. About Jake and the way his fingers are playing with the fold of his shirt that covers a bit of his thighs, since heâs nervous while trying to win the argument against Jay.
You try to snap out of it when both boys look at you now, seeking your opinion. But you just mumble and pull your mind away from the sinful thoughts youâve been lost in.
But your panties are already soaked, and you do your best to avoid rubbing your thighs together in front of the boys, in public.
âI⊠I agree with Jay,â you mumble after a few moments, not really sure what he had picked. But you trust your friendâs good taste.
Jay smiles victoriously and your boyfriend gives you a sad look because he thought youâd support him. You just shrug and look away.
You all go into the store and buy all the gifts Jay suggested, and you just bite your lip every time Jake moves in a way that makes the muscles in his back stand out more. Or when he turns to look at you with those bright, loving eyes.
You shouldnât be horny in public. You shouldnât, but you are. And youâre so embarrassed about it.
Finally, with a few bags hanging from your arms because you offered to carry themânot fair that the guys always treat you like a princess, you want to show them you can spoil them tooâyou head to a cute cafĂ© to grab something before heading home.
You have something planned.
Jake sits first in some comfy armchairs tucked away in a corner of the place. Then you sit across from him. Normally, with a friend, youâd sit next to your boyfriend, but⊠You use the bags as an excuse so Jay just raises his eyebrows and sits next to your boyfriend without saying anything.
You settle into your seats and order some drinks, which are served to you right away. You grab your cold milkshake and start sipping innocently through the straw. Well, âinnocently.â
Under the table, you discreetly slip off one of your flats and slide your foot toward your boyfriendâs legs. At first, he takes it as a joke and smiles and laughs before shaking his head and going back to chatting about unimportant things while sipping his green grape soda.
But you move your leg higher up his calf until you reach his knee. Jake shoots you a warning look that Jay doesnât see, since heâs busy checking the gifts for Sunoo.
He quickly looks away, a slight blush rising on his cheeks. But heâs a good actor, because when your friend focuses on him again, Jake hides the situation perfectly.
Silently, acting as if nothing strange is happening under the table, you move your leg a little higher. Jake gets the message and, pressing his thick lips togetherâthe ones youâll make sure to kiss laterâspreads his legs a bit more and scoots closer to the table edge like nothingâs happening, so your friend doesnât accidentally glance over and see something he shouldnât.
Jay suspects nothing. He just drinks and talks and relaxes in the armchair. Completely unaware of your wicked actions. Poor thing, maybe you should treat him to that coffee heâs drinking right now.
You press your toes lightly against your boyfriendâs groin and Jake chokes on his drink.
âHey Jake, you okay?â Jay raises his eyebrows, looking concerned.
Jake just clears his throat and gives you a harder look. Then he turns to Jay and makes up a convincing excuse. You donât worry about him, you just flash a mischievous smile.
You move your foot a bit more, finding the growing bulge in his pants. You apply just a little pressure, but you see your poor boyfriend tense up and clear his throat.
Thatâs enough.
You pull your foot away, but Jake puts a hand under the table and tries to catch you before you do. But youâre faster, and with a few giggles, you slip your flat back on and settle into your cushioned seat.
Jay raises his eyebrows and looks at you both.
âIs there something going on I should know about?â he mutters, but quickly changes his mind. âNo, donât tell me. I donât want to know.â
Youâre definitely buying him that coffee.
Meanwhile, Jake gives you a look full of fire. You decide you donât want to decipher it right now.
When youâve finished your drinks and get up, you have a little dispute with Jay because you want to treat him. Although he refuses, youâre stubborn and end up winning, so you pay for his coffee.
When you go to pay, Jake follows you and you leave Jay alone with the gift bags for a moment.
Your boyfriend comes up to you and discreetly grabs your thigh. He presses a little closer to your body, his breath brushing your ear.
âIâm not letting you sleep tonight, huh, pretty?â he whispers, and his voice is two tones deeper. You shiver. âSomeone hasnât behaved very well in publicâŠâ
And, as promised, that night he has you tied to the bedpost.
Your wrists are bound together with his tie. Your thighs on either side of his shoulders, and Jake just alternates between the inside of your thigh, dangerously close to your groin, your swollen, desperate clit, and your navel.
Youâve been teetering on the edge of orgasm for thirty minutes, but every time you feel like youâre about to fall and drown in the best pleasure of your life, Jake grabs you and keeps you from going over.
He smiles at you wickedly.
âWhereâs the bad girl you were this afternoon?â he asks in a syrupy voice, stroking you with false sweetness.
You moan and squirm and whimper. Jake can be very versatile in bed, but when he gets this dominant, he just drives you crazy.
You bite your lips when you see your boyfriendâs tongue lick the soaked slit of your little pussy. He looks you right in the eyes, mischief dancing in his gaze. He bites your clit lightly, just enough to make you hold your breath, but not to hurt you.
And you whimper again when he moves his teeth away from your center and drags them languidly against your thigh, now red from the abuse heâs put it through.
âWhere is she, huh?â he asks again, closing his eyes as he sucks on the inner skin of your thigh with his plump lips. âMy little slut, so brave outside the bed⊠Tsk tsk, that behavior needs to be tamed.â
You get so turned on by his words that you arch your back again. His tongue has left your legs and is now trailing up your navel, licking the sweat from your body, burning from his touch.
âPlease, Jakeee,â youâre forced to beg. Youâre desperate. Desperate to feel something more than just the superficial touch of his tongue thatâs driving you crazy.
The pleasure ride heâs putting you through is turning into a rollercoaster of ups and downs of pent-up pleasure. You moan his name.
âPlease what? Hmm?â
âPlease, fuck me, fuck me. Iâm sorry, I wonât act like that in public again, but pleaseâŠâ youâre practically crying as you squeeze your eyes shut, feeling like a beggar for pleasure.
You feel him laugh against your skin and he straightens up.
âWho said I donât like you being that daring in publicâŠ? My little rebellious princess.â
He stands up and you look into his eyes, where you can see heâs finally given in to your pleas. He wraps you in his arms for a moment before kissing your lips, your cheeks, your neck where he leaves some bites.
âAll right, princess. Spread those pretty legs for me, hmm?"

if you're in a relationship with someone and you've already talked to them about your needs, about the things that are important to you and make you feel comfortable and safe and loved. and they're still not giving it to you. if they aren't clearly trying to (actually trying, which means more than just thinking about it). then i think most likely you are either fundamentally incompatible or they don't actually care. they might think they care. they might want to care. but they don't. and you should find someone who will try harder to give you what you need, not just whatever they feel like giving. you feel your heart flutter when they promise you the moon but they aren't even here on the ground with you, listening and doing the every day things that matter the most to you. people treat "telling you what you want to hear" the way they treat "you are not immune to propaganda". they'll say "of course anyone can be susceptible to this so be careful!", but it's hypothetical. they don't really think they'll ever be the one falling for it. someone saying what you want to hear isn't just feeding you those obvious laughable lines, trying to flatter and placate you. it's someone picking up on what you're looking for (consciously or unconsciously, good or bad for you) and presenting themselves as the person who can give you all of it. picking up on your insecurities and fears and the things you're ashamed of and presenting themselves as the person who won't be bothered or pushed away by any of it. and when someone is telling you what you want to hear you are way more likely to let things slide as far as what they DO and how they TREAT you. they told you they care so obviously they care, and if their actions don't seem to line up with that then something else must be the problem. maybe you're the problem. if you could just explain more, explain better, expect less, then everything would be fine.

OKAY ITS TIME TO SCREAM ABOUT MY INSANITY I READ CHAPTER 9 OF LOTF YESTERDAY AND JESUS CHRIST.
My friends are lowkey disappointed in my weird taste for classic British novels that people don't actually like but. how you expect me to be normal over these boys, so starved of food and love, diminished into the monsters they've feared in the woods, filled with such inane fervor for blood it is difficult to call them human. children. boys turned to beasts. men turned to monsters.
The fact that jekyll & hyde, lord of the flies (inane and inevitable evil inside of mankind) and the hitchhiker's guide (mostly silly stuff but also life is essentially meaningless and the universe is so vastly huge that the entire existence of humans is pathetic in comparison) are some of my favourite books says a lot of great things about my outlook on life and humanity thumbs up
#I GOT CALLED BRITISH LIKE TWICE. I THINK I MIGHT ETHNICALLY BE ONE OF THE LEAST BRITISH PEOPLE IN MY FRIEND GROUP AND YET#sorry guys its past midnight and im really eepy and insane but i need to start and finish an entire slide presentation grr#sorry if the words don't make sense lmao#lord of the flies#lotf#<- mostly this#the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy#h2g2#jekyll and hyde#the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde#j&h#lucifers wrath#lucifers gluttony#lucifers inferno

synopsis à Ë. á”á” when youâre too sick to care for your baby, nanami brings her to the office strapped to his chestâcalm, efficient, and completely unfazed as he gives presentations with a pacifier on his tie and a baby on board.
toriâs notes á°.á this is ridiculous iâm warning you

nanami doesnât even flinch when you croak from under the covers, voice raw and pitiful: âken, i canâtâi think i have a fever, and she wonât stop crying unless iâm holding her.â
your voice cracks halfway through the sentence. you look like a ghost of yourself, half-sunken into your nest of tissues and blankets, hair a disaster, eyes glazed and watery. the babyâs red-faced and sniffling too, sprawled across your chest like a little heater, tiny fists grasping your shirt like she knows you might try to hand her off.
nanami, standing in the doorway, calmly adjusts his watch.
âiâll take her.â
you blink. âyou⊠you have three meetings today.â
âand now i have three meetings with a baby,â he says, already crossing the room like a man with a mission.
you canât even protest properly before heâs kneeling beside the bed and gently peeling her off you, expertly switching to his papa voice â warm and low, as if heâs de-escalating a tiny, fussy hostage situation.
âthere we go,â he murmurs, pressing a kiss to her forehead, then yours. âweâll manage. rest. you know what medicine you should take. call me if you need anything.â
ten minutes later, heâs at the front door in his usual tan coat, baby carrier strapped securely to his chest like sheâs a very warm, very giggly piece of office equipment. sheâs wearing one of those obnoxiously frilly headbands you swore youâd never put on her â but she screamed when he tried to take it off, and heâs not here to pick battles today.
diaper bag over his shoulder. bottle packed. pacifier clipped neatly to his tie. hair combed, shoes polished, baby securely swaddled and babbling.
âdonât let the interns try to hold her,â you wheeze weakly from the hallway.
âi would rather die,â he replies without missing a beat.
as he walks out, you hear him murmur to her, âno loud commentary during the finance report. we must suffer through it in dignified silence.â
cut to: the morning finance meeting, 9:01 a.m., in a fluorescent-lit conference room downtown.
the projector is humming. spreadsheets fill the screen. half the team is slumped in various degrees of caffeine withdrawal.
nanami kento walks in, perfectly on time, baby on his chest like itâs the most natural thing in the world.
he doesnât explain it. doesnât apologize. he walks straight to the head of the table, clicks open his laptop, adjusts the projector, and begins speaking with the same calm, measured cadence he always usesâ
except this time, thereâs a tiny foot sticking out of the carrier, gently bumping his blazer.
âmoving into Q3,â he says, clicking to the next slide, âweâre forecasting a moderate increase in asset reallocationââ
the baby lets out a soft, inquisitive coo.
nanami glances down at her, gives a very small nod, and says to the room, âcorrect. the Q3 projections are, in fact, unfortunate.â
silence.
wellâalmost silence.
from somewhere near the coffee machine, an intern tries to whisper, âis that aâ?â
nanami turns his head fractionally. just enough to shut it down.
âyes. sheâs here in lieu of her mother, who is unwell. please direct all questions to me or her, depending on the topic.â
no one questions it.
she doesnât cry, not even once. in fact, she seems thrilled. she clutches his tie like itâs her personal emotional support ribbon and waves her tiny hand every time someone shifts in their chair. at one point, she lets out a high-pitched giggle, and nanami simply pauses mid-sentence, gently pats her back, and continues like nothing happened.
someone tries to make eye contact and smile at herâ
she beams and throws her toy at them.
nanami takes back the toy and sighs, âdonât encourage her. sheâll never stop.â
the entire time, he keeps presenting with his utmost precision, occasionally glancing down at her to tuck the headband back into place or swap her pacifier like heâs been doing this his whole life.
he wraps up right on time.
âany further questions?â
dead silence.
even the regional manager just gives a tight nod. no one wants to risk being shamed by a baby.
â
back home, itâs late afternoon when the door creaks open.
youâre still buried in blankets, half-delirious and clinging to a half-empty box of tissues. you blearily lift your head at the sound of keys in the bowl.
nanami walks in with the same exact expression he had when he left: calm, unreadable⊠except thereâs a little extra softness at the corners of his eyes.
the baby is still strapped to his chest. fast asleep now, one hand gripping his tie, the other curled against his collarbone. sheâs drooling slightly. he hasnât removed the headband.
âshe was very well-behaved,â he says quietly. âarguably more professional than half the team.â
you laugh â or try to, but it comes out as a croaky wheeze.
he crouches beside you, brushing a bit of hair from your face. âhow are you feeling?â
âlike death.â he nods and kisses your cheek.
you glance over at the baby. âhow was she, really?â
âchatty,â he says, straight-faced. âopinionated about quarterly earnings. but otherwise excellent.â
he lifts her hand gently, unhooks her fingers from his tie.
âyouâre insane,â you whisper.
he leans in to kiss your forehead, gentle and lingering.
âefficient,â he corrects.
then, after a beatâ
âalso⊠she now technically works in accounting.â
you blink. âwhat?â
he shrugs.
âsomeone handed her a spreadsheet. she drooled on it. thatâs more than my latest intern did today.â
you laugh again, properly this time.
he finally unstraps her, carefully settling her into the bassinet. she doesnât stir â not even when he tucks her blanket in with military precision.
you lie there watching him move quietly around the apartment, sleeves rolled up, tie chewed, hair slightly out of place, and realize:
papa nanami could take over the world with a baby strapped to his chest and a pacifier in his pocket, and heâd still be home in time to fold the laundry.

Learning from you that I can walk away, too.

Easily, you can do both. Despite being a college student, you are already arranged to marry Park Sunghoon, the son of your parents' business partner. While you're doing everything to tie him to your perfect life, Sunghoon is very much determined to ran away from it, chasing after a dream of passion which you could never understand.

You have a routine.Â
By six in the morning, regardless if you have class that day, youâll be awake. You start your day by taking a 5km walk in the community plaza in your subdivision, wherein the sun has already risen but not enough for you to feel hot.Â
You should also be home by seven in the morning, wherein you do your morning routine like taking a bath, cooking breakfast, and maybe spare thirty minutes to read the book on your reading list before driving off to Decelis University. If you donât have any classes that day, youâll spend the day advance reading your subjects.Â
Everything in your life has always been like that. Having a routine keeps you organized, calms your mind and keeps your body circling everyday â leaving no room for mistakes, because making mistakes for you isnât an ideal thing to do.
Youâre the only child of your family. You grew up with loving parents who showered you with love and everything that you want. Spoiled but not rotten, everything wasnât given to you in a snap. They always taught you that everything they give to you, should be repaired. Hence, you grew up with expectations given to you, and you have every determination not to fail your parents.Â
Thatâs why youâre studying medical biology, following the footsteps of your father who owns the biggest medical center in your city. Ever since your father exposed you to his work, your dream has been to become a doctor like him, and they were happy that youâre following their path.Â
While they are anticipating for you to become a doctor, your parents didnât hesitate to give you a second option â a doctorâs wife like your mother. Someone who tends to their husband, becoming a housewife or trophy wife who spends their husbandâs money with no problem, your mother would always joke.Â
Coincidentally, your parents didnât even let you choose between the options because easily, you can have both. While your ring finger remains empty, you know youâre bound to be married to someone by the time you graduate college.Â
âSunghoon,â you called out, shaking the boyâs shoulder. You were given a short groan as Sunghoon turned sideways and covered his head with the blanket.
âSunghoon, wake up! We have class at ten!â you shouted, pulling the blanket once again. It didnât take a minute for Sunghoon to sit up with a loud groan escaping his lips.Â
ây/n, itâs only eight in the morning, you can go to Decelis if you want to, but let me fucking rest for another hour,â he said mindlessly, eyes still close.Â
âYouâll skip class again because you overslept,â you pointed out. âAre you still drunk?â
âI have a hangover, thanks for asking,â Sunghoon replied sarcastically. âAlso, why do you care if I skip class for today? Itâs just a minor subject for fuckâs sake, just go.âÂ
âMake sure you go to Decelis today,â you reminded before leaving his room. Sunghoon didnât even bother replying to you, he only lay down in his bed once again and dozed off, which only made you heave a sigh.Â
Youâve known Park Sunghoon ever since you two were kids. You remember the first time you two met, at his fatherâs birthday, wherein he played the piano for the audience. You watched as he effortlessly played a song youâre unfamiliar with. Eyes locked at him, it was the first time you felt that rush of in your heart, cheeks heating up as you admired him from where you were standing.Â
Ever since that day, you wanted to marry Sunghoon. His parents own the largest pharmaceutical company in your district which means that heâs bound to inherit his parentsâ business. You think that it was destiny. If you two were to get married, your parentsâ businesses would merge and you envision yourself as a doctor along with Sunghoon.Â
It was as if the perfect life had been given to you. While you never formally requested to your parents that you wanted to marry Sunghoon, they pretty much set you two up. You grew up with Sunghoon, played and studied with him, and went to the same school together.Â
He was your best friend. Although the lingering crush inside you still gives you butterflies every time youâre with Sunghoon, your platonic love for him still outweighs. You two passed Decelis University together, but before you two entered college, the formal arrangement between the two of you was held in a private dinner â completely shattering your relationship with him.Â
From there, everything changed, the wariness that you two will get married after graduation lingers, and the fact that you two were forced to live in a house together, alone, made it more awkward for the two of you.Â
Both your parents insisted that itâs for you two to prepare for your marriage. At first, it was hard to adjust, having small talks and walking on eggshells during the first few months despite you two growing up together. But slowly, you two had become well-adjusted with each other.
Going to Decelis together, study dates, and senseless conversations after dinner happened because not only you two live together, you two are also classmates. You two became well-known in your department. With your familyâs background and reputation, everyone knows that you two are engaged to each other, and by the end of your freshman year, you two were considered as the medical sciences departmentâs âpower couple.âÂ
Although you two had adjusted well, the two of you knew that what you had were only platonic, two best friends who live together under the same roof, ignoring the future that awaits for both of you.Â
But when sophomore year came, Sunghoon formed a band along with some friends and a junior of his, and they named it, âArcanum,â and ever since that day, Sunghoon was no longer the Sunghoon that you knew.Â
You always thought that his talent for piano will only be a talent of his, but you didnât expect it to become a passion that he will come chasing after. Ever since Arcanum happened, the sound of his keyboard can be heard all over your house, and instead of medical books and notes from your subjects being on his table, it has become lyrical sheets and chords that only Sunghoon can read.Â
While Sunghoon still excels in class and passes his subjects with ease, itâs not hard to ignore that his college program isnât his priority anymore. You found yourself alone in your house every night, Sunghoon separating from you by the end of the class because he has a gig or band practice. Sometimes he goes home drunk, and youâre wondering why the hell he is letting himself get drunk despite his low alcohol tolerance.Â
You know that itâll get worse if he continues doing it. You tried to talk him out of it but Sunghoon got angry with you instead, lashing out that why canât you just support his passion instead. It was the first time he ever got angry with you and yet, it fueled something in you, the way he looked at you that night, youâre convinced that heâs not the Sunghoon that you know â which persisted you more to make him go back to the way he was.Â
You tried. Everyday, you tried to make sure he goes to his class, waking him up and checking up on him became part of your routine. But it all seems useless because the more you pick up Sunghoonâs mess, the more he becomes annoyed at you. It became something you two always fought about, slowly you two didnât realise that you two had drifted apart.Â
âClass dismissed,â the professor announced. You could only close your notebook as you shake your head with disappointment.
Sunghoon didnât show up, heâs probably in his room, still asleep. You hated how he didnât show up, and all of it is because of a hangover from yesterdayâs gig. You always told him that he shouldnât drink during school days but itâs Sunghoon, he never listens to you.Â
As you grabbed your things and placed them in your bag, your professor called you out suddenly, which made you head towards him.Â
âYes sir?â you asked.Â
âItâs about Sunghoon,â he started, your eyes widened but you only nodded, it wasnât a surprise to you that your professors go to you if thereâs any concerns regarding your fiance.
âHe might as well drop my subject because heâs already failing,â your professor explained.
âWhat?â you asked, almost stumbling on your own tongue.
âHeâs been absent for the past few weeks, and you know that attendance is still a crucial part of my subject. If he keeps on missing my classes, heâll receive a failing grade in my subject, no considerations,â he said with a stern voice.Â
You kept quiet for a moment, but only nodded. âI will inform him about this one, thank you so much sir.â
âI know that Arcanum is slowly becoming popular, but he still has to prioritize his studies,â your professor comments.Â
You only gave him a formal smile before excusing yourself. As soon as you reached the hallway, you felt yourself in relief, but there was a hurtful tug on your heart. You couldnât help but to grab your phone, dialing Sunghoonâs number.Â
But all your calls went to his voicemail, you only stared at your phone, frozen from where you were standing. Your heart is beating at an abnormal pace and you hate that feeling.
Youâre nervous. You hated feeling nervous. Youâre nervous about Sunghoon, if he fails this subject, heâll be delayed to graduate. He canât delay. No, you two were supposed to graduate this year and after a few months, you two will get married before attending medical school. Thatâs the plan. There shouldnât be any other options other than that.Â
Of course you have to tell him about it, but the question was, does Sunghoon care? Thatâs what scares you the most. Because thereâs a large possibility that he doesnât care about it, heâll let himself fail a subject if it means proving you wrong.
You couldnât concentrate for the remaining day. Thoughts keep running in your mind, and to make it worse, none of your subjects were attended by Sunghoon. You donât know his whereabouts since he wasnât replying to your texts and calls, and you know that youâre going home to an empty house again.
Sunghoon is probably in his gig again, or maybe practicing somewhere. Thatâs what you thought when you entered the house, and your guess is right, it was empty and dark. As you close the door, thereâs a small pain in your heart staring at the huge yet hollow house, wondering if this would be the house that youâll go home to in a few years.
But your pondering was interrupted when you felt your phone vibrating, as you grabbed it and opened, you were surprised that Sunghoonâs calling you.Â
âIâve been calling you since earlier!â you shouted the moment you answered the call.Â
âMy parentsâ are here, I spent the day with them in case youâre wondering why I was absent for today,â Sunghoon said boredly, and despite his cold tone, you were relieved to hear his explanation.
âYou shouldâve told me that instead of having me wonder where the hell are you,â you replied.
âGet dressed, theyâre taking us out for dinner, I know youâre home by now, so weâll pick you around thirty minutes,â and with that, Sunghoon ends the call. He didnât even acknowledge your answer. You could only look at your phone for a minute before deciding to go to your room and find a nice outfit for dinner.Â
Sunghoonâs parents are a lovely couple who treated you like their own daughter. As soon as they arrive at your place to pick you up, Mrs. Park immediately approaches you with a smile on her face, hugging you tightly which you only reciprocate.Â
âY/n dear! Look at you, so pretty as ever,â she said with a smile, brushing your hair which only made you smile wider. âDonât get too stressed, okay? I know with graduation nearing, it can be stressful for you two. Just donât worry about your marriage, focus on your studies first.â
You only let out a small chuckle, âof course auntie, thank you for the concern.â
âYouâre looking out for Sunghoon,â she whispered, knowing that the subject was in the room. âIt can be hard sometimes, right? Iâm just happy that youâre the one that heâs going to marry. He doesnât know how lucky he is.â
The smile on your face almost slipped, but you managed to give her a nod. The beaming smile on Mrs. Parkâs lips make you wonder what she would feel if she learned about how disastrous her son is now â or how his fiance couldnât even tame him down.Â
âOf course, thank you for putting your trust in me.â instead, fake words slipped out of your mouth perfectly even though you were itching to snitch your fiance to his mother.Â
Mrs. Park only pats your cheeks one last time before calling out Mr. Park and Sunghoon, indicating that the four of you should go now.Â
Arriving at the restaurant, the four of you went straight to the VIP room where food was already served. Dinner immediately commenced with a few talks and chit-chats.
âGraduation is near,â Mr. Park said in the middle of the dinner, glancing at you and Sunghoon. âAny plans? University of choice for your med school?â
âDecelisâ medical school is one of the top,â you answered diligently. âI might stay there.â
âAh, I do remember, both your parents attended Decelis Medical School, good choice for you y/n,â Mr. Park pointed out.Â
âHow about you Sunghoon dear?â Mrs. Park asked.Â
You only glanced at Sunghoon who busied himself with the food. He gives his parents a bored stare before picking up the meat on his plate, âProbably Decelis too.â
âAh I see, you donât want to get separated from y/n, such a sweetheart,â Mrs. Park teasingly said.Â
Sunghoon softly scoffs, making you glance at him. His action were left unnoticed by his parents. When Sunghoon glanced at you, he raised an eyebrow, and you wanted to say something but you held yourself back. Knowing that you two are just putting up a show to his parents.
The remaining hours were filled with nothing but silence, which you are used to. Talks about college were all the conversation revolved around, and somehow, Sunghoon managed to answer his parentsâ questions like he was a diligent student whoâs top of his class.Â
âTake care of the two of you okay? Weâll see you during your break,â after a few goodbyes and hugs, Sunghoonâs parents have left the two of you back in your house. The two of you watched their car leave and with that, Sunghoon turns around and enters the house.Â
You followed him, heels clanking against the marble floor. You watched as he unbuttons his sleeved shirtâs button, walking towards his room when you called him out.Â
âYou should be glad that I didnât tell them that youâre on the edge of failing a subject,â you blurted out.Â
Sunghoon merely laughs in disbelief, âoh, now I should be glad that you saved my ass earlier? Thank you then.â
You chose to ignore his sarcastic remark, âSunghoon, you canât give up now, weâre graduating, do you really want to get yourself delayed?âÂ
Sunghoon only stared at you, âwhat if I do? Is there something you can do about it?â
You only blink for a second. âFine, go on and get delayed, fail a subject if you want to. But do I have to remind you that Arcanumâs a university band? And by Decelisâ rules, they allow bands to perform as long as they donât have a failing grade? So if you want to be so hard-headed about not attending class, say goodbye to your band then.âÂ
âYouâre so annoying arenât you? Using Arcanum just so I can continue studying medicine,â Sunghoon exhales.Â
A haunting smirk plastered on your face, âoh no sweetheart, Iâm just reminding you that you canât chase after Arcanum, especially when itâs still tied in Decelis and your studies. So maybe rethink your life choices now before your parents find out about the mess that youâve been doing.âÂ
Sunghoon mockingly laughs, âyouâre such a stuck-up to my parents.â
âThen make a fucking choice Hoon,â you challenged. âThem finding out through me or Decelis? Either way, itâs not going to end well, so fix yourself and get some sleep tonight. We have class tomorrow at eight. Goodnight to you.â
You end the conversation by passing by him. Going straight to your room where you immediately locked yourself. You lean against the door, Eyes shutting tightly as you try to steady your breathing. You can feel all the energy leaving your body, wanting nothing more to sleep.
You always say to yourself that you wonât give up on Sunghoon, but days like these feel like every effort you give to him is useless.Â
-
The following day, you and Sunghoon arrived at Decelis University together, creating a buzz in the campus. It was a rare occurrence for you to attend together.
Everyone knows. It's obvious that your relationship has been becoming astray, and yet, your âpower coupleâ status remains the same. No one attempted to pursue you nor girls couldnât flirt with Sunghoon not only because you two are tied together, but because you two are deemed untouchable because of your background.Â
You two entered the classroom, Sunghoon going to the corner seat near the window while you opted for the second row near the aisle. A few mutters can be heard, but you chose to ignore it, getting used to people talking about you and Sunghoonâs âstray relationship.â
The day goes on, classes and laboratories continue on and on, and youâve done the class with ease. You didnât talk to Sunghoon but you observed that he managed to catch up with your lectures despite his absences. Natural Sunghoon, he can be gone for half of the semester, and still manage to top his grades.Â
âGo home already,â Sunghoon said to you by the end of the class. âI have a gig tonight.â
You only gave him a bitter smile, âof course you have.â
But instead of leaving you there, Sunghoon raised an eyebrow, âyou know this y/n.â
âAnd Iâm used to it,â you sharply said. âWhy are you still standing there? Go now before I convince you to not go to your gig tonight.â
Sunghoon gave you another look before turning around, watching him leave the classroom as you stood there. Short conversations, sarcastic remarks, and bitter statements thatâll lead to arguments. You wonder when will this end?
âWhatâs wrong? Youâre out of focus today,â Yizhuo asked with a worried tone. You only place your tennis racket down as you grab your water bottle.
âJust the same usual thing,â you answer, sitting on the bench as your best friend did the same thing. She places her hand on your thigh, lightly patting it.Â
âSunghoon again? You know you should stop chasing after him.â
âItâs not that I am chasing him, Iâm already tied to him ââ you heaved out another heavy sigh. âHeâs the one chasing after a dream. Bands? Whatâs his future with them? After college, theyâll be gone, itâs not like theyâll continue playing after college.â
âHe seems to be so passionate about it,â Yizhuo pointed out. âWatched their performance last week at The Rabbit Hole, theyâre great by the way.â
âHe should be focusing on med school,â you explained. âBut heâs out there performing and getting drunk, I donât know Ning, I donât know what to do with him. His parents trusted me to take care of him ââ
âThere you go again, worrying about things that arenât your control,â your best friend gently pats your back. âYou know, you can always back out of the marriage? Youâre still young! You might even meet someone better in med school.â
Thatâs when you stifle a laugh, âhow can I? My parents arranged this one.â
âRan away! Do you really want to spend your life with that idiot?â
You didnât answer your friend. Your smile disappeared, and for a moment, you only looked at the court where strangers were playing tennis. Your focus shifted to the tennis ball bouncing back and forth from the players until it went out of the court.Â
âI do,â you said softly, because from the very start, it has always been Sunghoon. You couldnât imagine yourself looking for others when Sunghoon is right there from the very start.Â
âYouâre going to let yourself be a fool for him huh?â Yizhuo asked with a disappointed tone.Â
But you only looked at your best friend with a determined smile, âno, Iâm going to make him quit the band.â
âYou know youâre already doing it but nothingâs changing,â Yizhuo said. You only gave her a smile before standing up from the bench, you two went back to the table where your bags are located.Â
âThen I just have to keep on trying more,â you pointed out, fishing out your phone, you opened it and saw missed calls from Sunghoon â which is a surprise.Â
You pressed Sunghoonâs number and after a few rings, it answered.Â
âHello?â an unfamiliar voice called.Â
âHello, who is this?â you asked.
âItâs Heeseung, Sunghoonâs bandmate.â
âOh! I remember you, you study education right?â
Heeseung faintly chuckles from the background, âyes, that would be me, but listen, uhmâŠSunghoonâs drunk right now ââ
âAlready? Itâs only ten in the evening.âÂ
âYeah, but you know his alcohol tolerance â listen, uhm can you pick him up? Heâs passed out on the couch but doesnât want to get inside Jayâs car for some reason.â you can sense Heeseungâs apologetic tone, which only made you roll your eyes.
âItâs not like I can leave him there right? Can you send me the location, Iâll be there in a few minutes, Iâm just at Decelisâ tennis club,â you said.
âIâll send it right now, thank you y/n.â And with that, the call ended. You grabbed your bag and bid Yizhuo goodbye.Â
âJust reminding you that you can always leave him!â your best friend shouted, and you only gave her a glare before sprinting towards your car.
Sunghoonâs location drove you to a huge house, just a few blocks away from the university. Parking your car nearby, you got off from it and headed towards the entrance, ringing the bell twice.Â
The door opened, revealing a tall and familiar guy who you assumed was Heeseung.
âYouâre here, thatâs great, weâll get Sunghoon but come in first,â he said with a smile, you only nod as you enter the house.Â
âYouâre Heeseung right?â you asked as you two walked towards the living room. Heeseung stops and looks at you, he looks surprised but only nods.Â
âYeah, this is probably the first time we met, I only see you inside the campus and thatâs a rare occurrence.â he said.Â
Entering the living room, the first thing you saw was Sunghoon flat-out dead on the couch while some boys were cleaning the mess on the coffee table along with some girls. Can beers and bottles of vodkas placed on the table along with some snacks, while their instruments are set-up on a corner.Â
âHe said that he was on a gig,â you stated, walking towards Sunghoon.Â
âYeah, we just finished it earlier and he kinda insisted that we celebrate it,â Heeseung shrugs.Â
âHe has the guts to drink his heart out and then not go to class the next day,â you muttered under breath as you lightly shake Sunghoonâs shoulder.
âHeâs not gonna wake up anytime soon,â said another voice. âIâm Jay, and this is Jungwon.â
âHi, sorry for the hassle,â the blonde boy said.
âIâm sorry for Sunghoon too, I feel like you guys always have to take care of him whenever heâs like this.âÂ
âWeâre used to it, no worries,â Jay assured.Â
âAnd that worries me more because he just doesnât stop,â you pointed out. âYouâll end up tolerating his bad habits.â
No one said a thing. The three of them watched as you attempted to pull Sunghoon to sit up from his place, you were struggling but you were persistent.
They know how much you dislike Arcanum, seeing it as nothing but a university band who performs. Despite all of Sunghoonâs rants and complaints about you, the remaining three decided to be civil with you since they know that youâre going to be Sunghoonâs future wife.
âIf thatâs your worry, we donât tolerate bad habits here,â Heeseung breaks the silence approaching you as he lifts Sunghoon on his shoulders, along with the other two who held his limbs.Â
âThatâs not my only worry,â you whispered, Heeseung glances at you before proceeding to carry Sunghoon outside towards your car.Â
They set him neatly on the passenger seat, Sunghoon didnât move nor made a sound as they put on his seatbelt. Itâs safe to assume that heâs passed-out drunk and frustration is written all over your face. They werenât that stupid to notice it, Sunghoon has lately become too attached with alcohol.
âYou guys know that heâs studying medicine right? After college, heâs going to med school,â you asked them, who only glanced at each other, knowing that itâs the total opposite of what Sunghoon has been telling them.Â
âIf he keeps going on like this, I donât know what will happen to him in the future,â you said one last time before going inside your car and driving away from the place.Â
The silence was devouring, you kept on glancing at Sunghoon from time to time, checking if he had gained consciousness or not. You only tighten your hold on the steering wheel as you speeden your drive towards your place.Â
As you arrive at your house, thatâs when you face the challenge of carrying Sunghoon inside your place. You opened the door of the passenger seat and lightly shake Sunghoonâs shoulder. He didnât budge for a moment, thatâs when you called out his name, shaking it harsher than before.Â
You watch as Sunghoonâs eyebrows knit, letting out a frustrated groan as he attempts to open his eyes.Â
âGet up now, weâre home,â you told him.
ây/n?â he asked before closing his eyes.Â
âSunghoon! Wake up please!â you pleaded. But he didnât move again, so you stood there, thinking about what to do with him. Thatâs when you used all your strength to swing his heavy arms around your shoulders but as soon as you attempted to pull him out of the car, he didnât budge.Â
âFucking hell,â you curse, removing his shoulder. This time, you shake his head while screaming his name. For a few seconds, he opens his eyes confused and drowsy.Â
âJust lean on me,â you instructed, you grabbed his shoulders once again and this time, Sunghoon managed to move on his own, leaning his huge body against yours. You could only groan as you helped him walk inside your house.Â
You didnât even manage to reach his room, Sunghoon found himself stumbling in the living room â towards the couch where you couldnât do anything but to fix his position. You left the living room and returned in a minute with a blanket and a pillow for him.Â
Gently, you place the pillow below his head and put the blanket on him. Then you stood there, eyes never leaving Sunghoon whoâs sleeping now. You kneeled in front of him, brushing his messy bangs so that you could see his face closer.
âWhat am I going to do with you Hoon?â you whispered, eyes never leaving his face. Sunghoon looks so peaceful and gentle in his sleep â this is probably the only time you see him this peaceful.Â
A bitter smile escapes your lips because the more you look at him, the more it slowly sinks into you that tomorrow wonât be like this. âGoodnight Sunghoon,â you mumbled, patting his head one last time before returning to your room.Â
-
Your routine was disrupted when Sunghoon barged into the kitchen, angry and frustrated.Â
âY/n!? What the fuck!?â you stopped your tracks, turning off the stove before turning around to see a disheveled and mad Sunghoon in front of you.Â
âIs there something wrong?â you asked.
âDonât act so fucking innocent now, you know what you did,â Sunghood accused you.Â
âMaybe get straight to the point rather than pointing fingers on me,â you replied.Â
âYou told my friends about med school,â he answered. âNow they think that Arcanumâs messing up my future.â
âWell isnât it? Sunghoon, you really think that youâre going to play in that band forever?â you taunted. Itâs been a few days since you had a talk with his band members. The following day that time, everything seems to be normal for you â not until now that Sunghoon had discovered it.Â
âWhat if I want to? What if I told you that I am not planning to go to med school and I want to perform instead?â he taunted back, stepping forward in front of you which made you step backward, trapping you between the kitchen counter.Â
âThatâs not whatâs planned Sunghoon,â you breathe, forehead creasing as you only stare at him dead. âYou knew from the start, ever since we got engaged â engagement, college, marriage, then med school. That was the plan.â
âHave you ever thought that maybe things might change y/n? Maybe I want to perform now rather than take over my fatherâs business.â
âSo youâll be a disappointment?â you mocked. âYouâll go after your dream? Performing stupid songs and covers rather than repaying your parentsâ efforts on you?â
âAt least I know what I want, canât say that to you since you canât decide for yourself,â Sunghoon mocks.Â
A stinging pain burned on Sunghoonâs cheeks. It took him a minute to sink in what you just did, but he could only laugh mockingly as your eyes remained at him, wide but filled with anger. Your palms numbed as it rounded to conceal yourself from doing it again.
âAt least I know whatâs best for me, and you may not like it but weâre engaged Sunghoon, and Iâm not going to let our future be ruined by some mere passion of yours,â you stated, gritting your teeth as your stare became cold.Â
Sunghoon didnât say another word. His eyes speak for it that heâs angry, and heâs only controlling himself from hurting you despite the fact that you hurt him first. You could only stare at him, not attempting to back down.Â
But it was as if thereâs an angel watching over you, the doorbell rang, indicating a visitor. The two of you turned your head towards the door, and before anyone could say another word, you pushed Sunghoon out of your way, walking towards the door and opening it.Â
âWonyoung!?â you shouted, surprised to see your best friend.Â
âSurprise!â the girl shouted in glee, stretching her arms to pull you a hug which you dearly reciprocated.Â
âOh my god, youâre here?â you asked, breaking out from the hug.
âI just got back from Milan and went straight here,â Wonyoung winks before she steps inside your house, your eyes following her as she goes to Sunghoon.Â
âSunghoon! I miss you!â Wonyoung shouted, embracing Sunghoon who only reciprocated it.Â
âLong time no see, Wonnie,â Sunghoon gently said.
âItâs great â what happened to your face?â Wonyoung asked, seeing his left cheeks red.Â
âBumped on a wall, but it doesnât hurt,â Sunghoon lied, before glancing at you who only stared at him coldly.
Wonyoung seems to be convinced by it, laughing it off before pulling you two to a hug. Squealing how much she has missed you two â oblivious about the fight that happened just minutes ago.Â
âDo you want some drinks? Come on, sit down for a while,â Sunghoon insisted, ignoring you as he ushered Wonyoung towards the living room. You immediately noticed how Sunghoonâs face lit up, his smile becoming wider that his eyes turned into two curves â the first time in the many months that you saw Sunghoonâs genuine smile.Â
It wasnât always you and Sunghoon ever since you two were kids â there were the three of you.Â
Wonyoung is a best friend of yours. A sister that you always needed. Sheâs a free-spirited girl who always indulges in fun even if it means getting the three of you in trouble.Â
Unlike you and Sunghoon, Wonyoungâs family is richer. She was rich enough to have a choice not to attend college and spend her parentsâ money that wonât even dent their bank account. While you and Sunghoon are studying in Decelis, Wonyoung was traveling a lot, attending fashion weeks, and brand launches. Slowly, she became a well-known influencer and socialite that collaborates with well-known brands and walks for their runway. It was hard to get a glimpse of her, thatâs why it surprised you that sheâs here in the city.Â
âSo, what brings you here instead of going back to our hometown?â you asked, placing the glass of juice in front of her.Â
âMom and dadâs here, theyâre actually planning on renewing their vows â oh by the way, you two are invited there and so are your parents, itâs an intimate event but you know them, they want it grandiose and perfect, so I have to help in organizing it,â Wonyoung diligently said. âAnd I miss you guys! Itâs been like a year since we last hung out, hopefully Iâm not intruding on whatever plans you have though.â
Talking about wrong timing. You thought. Everything is crumbling between you and Sunghoon but you donât want Wonyoung to know about that, so you only gave her smile and said, âeverythingâs fine, a bit hectic because itâs senior year, but itâs a rare case that youâre here, so weâll make time.âÂ
Wonyoung only pouts, âyou guys, I really miss you, seriously! I love my job but it gets lonely sometimes.â
âYou can always go back to college,â Sunghoon teased, making Wonyoung glare at him.Â
âUgh, you dumbass, if I returned to college, you guys would have already graduated!â Wonyoung whined while Sunghoon only laughed.Â
âAnyways, I just dropped by to show up to you guys, just tell me when you guys are free, maybe we could go out for dinner â oh, I wanted to see Decelis too! Howâs that sound?â Wonyoung delightfully suggested.Â
âWeâll make time for you Won, just tell us when youâre free,â Sunghoon answered, making you glance at him.Â
Wonyoung only smiled at the answer. She told the two of you that sheâs free all the time since thereâs not much preparation going on. As she bid goodbye to you, you only gave her a short smile before she was walked out of the door by Sunghoon. Watching the two of them exchange banters before Sunghoon closes the door.Â
You stood up from your seat, ready to leave when Sunghoon cornered you immediately.Â
âYou think weâre done? Iâm not done yet y/n,â Sunghoon growled.Â
But you only gave him a bored smile, âWonyoungâs here Hoon, can we just not do this? I donât want her seeing us fight ââ
âYou care more about what others think of us huh? Of course, you donât want everyone to see the âperfect daughterâ imperfect.â
âItâs seldom for us to see Wonnie, I donât want her to think that our friendship is ruined, weâre the only one that she has,â you pointed out.Â
âWell, too bad for her, itâs already ruined, the moment both of us got engaged.â Sunghoon didnât even let you say another word. He eventually went back to his room, slamming the door loudly like he always does.Â
You remained there standing, words deeply cutting through your mind. You looked at Sunghoonâs door once again, before heaving a sigh. The palm of your hand remained heavy, guilt swallowing you knowing that perhaps, you went too far this time.Â
-
Over the weekend, the three of you went out as per Wonyoungâs request. Going to a nearby mall where you three had brunch, played at the arcade, and even took photos at the photobooth. The whole day felt nice for you, it felt like you three are back as teens who would sneak out at night just to hangout and drive around town.Â
While you and Sunghoon are still not okay, a silent truce was made for Wonyoung. You two never tried to argue or fight whenever sheâs around, and although it can be suffocating for the both of you, you two tried to act as normal as possible.Â
âI do wonder what would happen to us if I stayed and studied college,â Wonyoung ponders. The three of you decided to have ramen and convenience store snacks by the end of the day, opting to watch the sunset at a nearby park. It was Wonyoungâs request because she was curious what it feels like, seeing it on social media not knowing that this is also the first time you and Sunghoon had experienced it.Â
âWhat makes you think about that?â you asked.
Wonyoung only smiles, âyou guys seem to be so secured with your future, becoming doctors and stuff, while me? I donât know what I am doing.â
âYouâre doing what you love,â Sunghoon butts in. âAnd that matters, you know? At least you love what youâre doing, not because itâll secure you a good future.âÂ
You know what Sunghoon was trying to say, but you remained quiet, watching as Wonyoung nodded at Sunghoonâs advice.Â
âYouâre right, I do love the free pr packages and clothes,â Wonyoung jokes, laughing before pulling you two to a hug. âYou guys are the best, hope nothing changes with the three of us.â
A meaningful glance was exchanged between you and Sunghoon. Not one said a word, only actions spoke as both of you embraced your best friend back.
The following week, Decelis University had a one-day event, cancelling academic activities which was an opportunity for you to invite Wonyoung to tour around Decelis. She arrived around three in the afternoon, hugging you and Sunghoon as she complained how organizing her parentsâ renewal of vows became hectic, happy that she was able to relax for today.Â
The tour went on with ease, Wonyoung was curioused at the different department buildings of Decelis since its structure differed from others. Taking photos using her film camera which she used to take photos of the three of you too.Â
âSo this is called the loverâs garden because lovers often come here?â Wonyoung asked, pointing at Decelisâ botanical garden which is actually for botany and biology students.Â
âMore like a lover's hideaway, itâs pitch black there during night, Iâm leaving up to your imagination what couples do there,â Sunghoon explains, a teasing smile on his lips as Wonyoungâs face distorted in disgust.Â
âEw! Why canât you guys book a hotel room or something,â she commented and yet, her camera was ready. âOh well, might as well take a picture of both of you ââ
âWhat?â you asked, appalled. âWon, we never did it.â
âAnd save myself from imagining you two banging, just stand in front of the entrance! You guys are a couple right? Come on now, you two donât have a photo together!â Wonyoung insisted.Â
An exchange of glances was given, but before you could even complain once again, Sunghoon pulled you towards the entrance.Â
âCome on now, the more you complain, the more Wonyoung will insist,â Sunghoon boredly explained. You didnât say a word, you stood there before facing the camera.Â
âPose! You guys are so stiff, itâs like you two arenât in love with each other,â Wonyoung taunted before preparing her camera again.Â
Funny because you two arenât at all. But no protest was made when Sunghoon swings his arms around your shoulder before pulling you closer. You can feel your heart skip a beat, but it was immediately reminded by your mind. The more you complain, the more Wonyoung insists. Sunghoon did it so that it can be finished early, so you fake a smile as Wonyoung clicks the button.Â
She stares at the screen, smiles wide as she looks at you two, âyou guys are perfect for each other.âÂ
âVery funny Won,â you sarcastically replied.
After the endless walking and tour, you three stumbled at your buildingâs cafeteria, buying drinks as Wonyoung is still in awe about your university, totally immersing herself with your college life.Â
âWhat about dinner? Iâm pretty sure you guys have a lot of good eateries around,â Wonyoung suggested, it was five-thirty in the afternoon, the sun was almost setting which meant that it's time for early dinner for most students.
âYou guys can go on,â Sunghoon said, standing from his seat. âI have to go, I have a gig.â
You internally scoff, even if Wonyoungâs here, Sunghoon couldnât bear to miss his bandâs gig.
âWait, can we watch?â Wonyoung excitedly asked, making the two of you look at her.
âAsk y/n if she wants to,â Sunghoon bitterly said, and you only looked away from him, rolling your eyes.Â
âWhat? You havenât seen Sunghoonâs gig?â your best friend asked, confused before gazing her eyes back to Sunghoon.
Your lips tightened, âIâm busyâŠI donât have time ââ
âThen this is a great time to watch his gig! Come on!â
You werenât able to object, Wonyoung was so excited that it only left you quiet as she pulled you away from your seat.Â
Arcanumâs weekly gig was held at The Rabbit Hole â a mixture of coffee shop and bar lounge under Decelis Universityâs funding. The place was cozy, designed with vintage interiors with a small stage place in the end. This is the first time you went to that place, almost surprised to see that itâs full of people; locals, students, and probably fans of Arcanum crowded the small establishment.Â
You and Wonyoung find yourself at a table for two far from the stage but enough to see their performance. Sunghoon excuses himself as he went to the back room where it serves as Arcanumâs waiting room.Â
âDo you even know that Sunghoon plays in the band?â Wonyoung jokes, eyes never leaving the menu on her hand.Â
âI do, I just donât have time to watch his performance,â you half-lied. The truth is, you never tried to find time to watch their performance. For what? You always say to Sunghoon whenever he invites you to his gig, you rather spend the time studying or doing something much important for you.Â
âWell Iâm glad Iâm here because weâre going to watch him perform!â your best friend giggled, you only gave her a small smile before glancing at the menu once again.Â
While waiting for your food to arrive, you noticed how the place slowly became full to the point that there werenât any tables left and some people opted to stand instead. Your eyes never left the crowd, wondering if this is the usual situation to Arcanumâs gig.Â
Around seven in the evening, your food arrived but you were startled when the crowd started screaming â mostly girls of course, making you shift your attention at the stage.
There they were, Arcanum. The four-member band of Decelis University. They changed their school uniform with a casual street-style outfit. Your eyes fixated on Sunghoon whoâs wearing a football jersey, pairing it with a huge chain necklace and cargo pants.
You watch as he busies himself with his keyboard â the instrument that he bought by saving up his allowance. You remember how he excitedly unboxed it in the living room, even testing it out while you sat on the couch reviewing for your midterm exams. Somehow, he was careful with it, caring for it like itâs his own child.Â
âWow, we have a full house tonight!â your attention immediately caught on Heeseung whoâs in the center, holding a bass guitar as his smile was wide and gleaming. Screams can be heard from the crowd, a fangirl even shouted âI love you Heeseung!â which only made the vocalist chuckle.Â
âBefore that, letâs have a crowd check donât we? Who's here for the first time?â Heeseung asked, raising his hands which a few in the crowd followed.Â
âUs! Itâs our first time!â you were startled when Wonyoung shouted loudly, standing up from her seat as she grabbed your hands and raised it together with hers â caughting Heeseungâs attention, an evident smirk on the maleâs lips can be seen.
âOh? I am seeing familiar faces here, do we Hoon?â the vocalist teased, Sunghoon only smirked as he crossed his arms.Â
âI have to impress my guests, so you better do your best Hee,â Sunghoon nonchalantly replied before glancing at the two of you. Eyes immediately locking on yours as he raised his eyebrow knowingly â like he was telling you that he was meant to be there, performing.Â
âWell better set the mood right, come on guys,â with that, Heeseung signals the band and at the count of three, they start playing synchronically.Â
The crowd started screaming. You can see it, how synergized they were. They werenât just there to perform, they were also having fun. The way Heeseung interacted with the crowd along with Jay, making the small stage as his own. He then stands in front of the microphone stand, singing the first line of a song unfamiliar to you.Â
âThe vocalist sounds so good!â you hear Wonyoung exclaim and you only nod at her words, it is true that Heeseung was good, but your eyes darted to Sunghoon.Â
There he was, blending in the background along with Jungwon whoâs at the drums, but compared to the junior, Sunghoon wasnât banging his head as the drumsticks slammed against the drums. He wasnât like Heeseung who controls the crowd, nor Jay whoâs rocking his electric guitar like crazy.Â
Sunghoon was there like a quiet mystery, a controlled relaxed expression as he immersed himself with playing the keyboard, a few head nods as his chords synchronised with others. You could only blink, deja vu hitting you all of the sudden â you remember the first time you saw Sunghoon.Â
He bores the same expression that he had back when he was young. Your gaze locked on him, not noticing how your eyes met each other, but quickly, Sunghoon looked away and continued playing. Something inside you was burning, strangely your heart was beating like crazy as you watched Sunghoon perform.
You didnât even notice that the song was finished. The crowd applauded and cheered for them, Heeseung jokingly bows before asking if the crowd wants some more.Â
Throughout the whole gig, your eyes never left Sunghoon. Throughout their whole performance, you watch him change his expression more than the duration that you two had lived together, but all only fell into one conclusion â Sunghoon was happy to perform. You can see it from the way he was serious while playing the keyboard up to the way he joked with his bandmates, letting out small laughter and eye smiles throughout the small break.Â
The gig ends around nine in the evening. As they stepped down from the stage, people swarmed them excitedly. Asking for pictures and small talks. You watch as Sunghoon happily accepts his fansâ request, taking pictures with them, which made Wonyoung laugh, knowing that Sunghoon can be awkward with strangers.
âCongrats! You guys are so awesome!â Wonyoung exclaimed as soon as Sunghoon approached you two.Â
âThanks Won,â Sunghoon quietly said, before glancing at you. A moment of silence hovered between the two of you before Wonyoung nudged you.Â
âYou did great,â you told him, giving him a small smile afterwards.Â
Sunghoonâs eyes widened, surprised by your words. You only looked away, embarrassed while Sunghoonâs gaze remained at you.Â
âThank you,â he said softly.Â
âItâs nothing Hoon,â you quickly turned down.Â
The night ended with the three of you remaining at The Rabbit Hole for some light dinner and drinks. Sunghoon introduced Arcanum to you and Wonyoung once again, and it wasnât a surprise that Wonyoung got along with them easily. You remain quiet throughout the night, listening to their conversation while you only take your space at the end of the table â knowing that you donât relate to them at all.
Around eleven in the evening, you drop Wonyoung off to the hotel where she was staying, reminding you about her parentsâ second wedding before bidding you two goodbye. The drive back to your home was quiet, an awkward atmosphere that both of you couldnât comprehend. You can feel Sunghoonâs glance at you at every minute but you chose to ignore it, too tired to give it a meaning.Â
âDo you mean it?â The moment you two stepped inside the living room, Sunghoon broke the tension between you two.Â
You only turned around, a bored gaze staring at him but he remained unfazed.Â
âDo you mean what you said earlier?â he asked, merely audible like he was embarrassed to ask you that.
For a moment you ponder. You wanted to tell him that it reminds you from the time that you two first met. Like the Sunghoon who you grew up with â but your mind stopped you. What for? If you told him that, it meant that he was right, heâs much better to be a keyboardist than a doctor. That means you accept his passion.Â
âI wish you couldâve put that same energy in your studies,â so you told him that instead. A cold statement that your mind wonât stop reminding him.Â
From there, you saw how the small hope in his eyes faded, followed by bitter laughter escaping from his lips. âWhy did I even bother asking you again.â
He passes by you, like youâre nothing but a ghost, going straight to his room while you left there standing alone, guilt slowly growing in your heart.Â
-
The second wedding of Wonyoungâs parents was extravagant just like what your best friend said. A small private reception was held at a banquet of a five-star hotel after their renewal at a small hall nearby. Flowers filled the white crystallized hall, something straight out of a royalty. You could only awe as you entered the place, arms clutched at Sunghoon who merely spoke throughout the day.Â
âSunghoon, y/n! Glad to see you two!â Mrs. Jang approached you two with a hug and kiss, you only smiled at the woman whoâs like a mother to you.Â
âCongratulations auntie, the vows were so sweet, I almost cried!â you said, making the woman laugh.Â
âI bet youâll write better vows than me,â she winks. âBoth your parents have been talking about retirement and taking care of their grandkids from you two â gosh! You two are still young! I told them.âÂ
You only stifled a laugh to hide the awkwardness, Mrs. Jang only gave your arms a small squeeze, glancing at you and Sunghoon once again. âYou two still have a long way to go, I hope you two wonât give up on each other.âÂ
You became quiet for a minute, but immediately, you gave her a smile before nodding. âOf course, thank you auntie.âÂ
Mrs. Jang excused herself to entertain other guests, so you took the opportunity to find your assigned seat where you and Sunghoon sat. Wonyoung was busying herself with the event organizer, you can see the stress on her face but she always lights up whenever she passes the two of you, promising you two that sheâll make it up to you two later.
It didnât take too long for both of your parents to arrive. You and Sunghoon welcomed them with greetings and hugs, and it was obvious in their face that they were so happy to see you two together.
âLook at you two, you two are like a match made in heaven!â Mrs. Park compliments, you only chuckle at her words.Â
âI can hear the wedding bells already! What do you think sweetie? Will this be a great reception for your wedding?â your mother suggested.
âMom please, letâs not talk about that right now,â you awkwardly said.Â
âItâs going to happen anyways,â your mother insisted. âBut I do hope you two are doing well in your studies.â
âOf course, everything is going well auntie,â it was Sunghoon who answered, making you glance at him. Faking a smile to your mother who only pats his shoulders with glee.
âWell, thatâs glad to hear,â your father answered. âI heard that you two will be attending Decelis Medical School. The passing rate is small there, Iâm not scaring you two, just trying to remind you two.âÂ
âDad, weâll be fine, put trust in the two of us,â you assured.Â
âEveryoneâs expecting from the two of you,â Mr. Park added. âFamilies, friends, colleagues, everyone. They say thereâs no couple who will have a better life than you two.â
Somehow, that only puts more weights on your shoulder. Theyâre still expecting, and you donât know what to say to them, hence, you only put a fake smile as an awkward chuckle escapes your lips.Â
âOf course,â Sunghoon answers casually like he wasnât the one whoâs actually ruining the whole engagement. âCan you excuse us for a moment? I would like to dance y/n.â
âOh, such a sweetheart! Of course, you donât need to tell us that,â Mrs. Park insisted.Â
Sunghoon only glances at you, offering his right hand to you, which you only accepted. You knew that he didnât actually want to dance with you, itâs just an excuse for you two to escape the conversations with both your parents before it gets worse.Â
But it leads you two to an even more awkward atmosphere. Your head low as you ignore Sunghoonâs stare that has you melting like ice. Right hand clasps to each other while your other hand is on his shoulder, as his other hand is on your waist, holding you dearly as you two dance along with other couples on the circle.
It felt orchestrated, stiff like two robots forced to dance. You could only listen to the music as you follow Sunghoonâs steps.Â
âYou didnât have to do this,â you said.Â
âRather have this than straight-up lie to our parents,â he said, which only made you bitterly laugh.Â
âYou donât need to lie if you werenât fucking around,â thatâs when you look at him, trying to remove his hold when he tugs you closer. His eyes bore nothing but coldness, while yours was intense, filled with annoyance.
âEveryoneâs watching us,â Sunghoon whispered. âYouâre not going to make a mess arenât you?â
âWhy would I make a mess at someoneâs wedding? Thatâll be shameful Hoon,â you stated the obvious. âIâll be surprised if youâre the one whoâll make a scene.âÂ
âOf course, you always think that Iâll do something like that,â he replied.Â
âWith all the bullshits and mess youâve been doing lately, it doesnât surprise me at all,â you gave him a knowing smile. His hold on you tightens, squeezing your hands and youâre convinced that a mark on your waist will bloom the following day. But you didnât want to back down, your eyes remained at him as you two continued to dance.Â
The song ended after what feels like an eternity. Immediately, you and Sunghoon stopped, making you remove his hold from you before giving him another bitter smile.Â
âI need a drink, excuse me,â you said, leaving him standing there.Â
You remained on the champagne section, lightly sipping the drink which you internally wince. Youâre not used to alcoholic drinks but tonight feels like you needed it â maybe two or three, because you honestly donât know what to do with your life.
The event, supposedly an event where everyone witnessed a renewal of love, made you sick rather than feel romantic. Everythingâs suffocating, knowing that youâre the only one who knows about Sunghoonâs rebellion and you canât do nothing about him while that asshole still managed to put up a show and spew lies to both your parents.Â
On your fourth glass, the song suddenly changed into a bright, lively one. A disco song from the 80s that had people in gowns and tuxedos dance drunkenly. And yet, you remained in the corner, watching the crowd even seeing your parents were on the dance floor too, you stifled a laugh because they were probably reminiscing about their youth.Â
From there, you caught a glimpse of them. You placed down the glass, stepping forward to see the two of them dancing.Â
Sunghoon and Wonyoung. They werenât not only dancing, but they were laughing too. You watch as the two of them dance, copying each otherâs steps, synchronising as they sing along the song. You stood there, frozen. Your eyes never leave them, watching how Sunghoon twirled Wonyoung â like theyâre in their own world.
Your fist turned round, nails digging on your palm as you tried to control yourself. Something about them brewed something in you. An unexplainable feeling that you donât want to acknowledge. Watching them hold hands as they spun along to the music, while you remained nailed to a corner, your stomach wrenched into a weird feeling. â then it hit you. Everything makes sense now.Â
Thatâs it. You didnât think twice anymore. You went back to your table, grabbing the purse you brought and without looking back, you quietly exited the party.Â
You found yourself inside the restroom, locking yourself inside as you tried to control your breathing. Closing your eyes, you tried to relax â but the scene earlier just keeps on replaying in your mind. Your hold on the sink tightens, almost scraping your nails against the marble texture.Â
As much as you want to insist that you and Sunghoon are already arranged to marry each other, Sunghoon is far from being yours.
This has always been a marriage of convenience. You always remind that to yourself. Yet, thereâs not a day where you wish that Sunghoon would see you differently. That you wish that he sees the reason why youâre doing everything for him. But from what you witnessed earlier, you realized that his heart beats for someone else.
All hopes lost. The signs are there. How can you let someone be married to you when he yearns for another? Everything youâve done for him crumbled in an instant. Wasted and useless, because not only were your feelings devastated, but you also ruined your friendship with him.Â
For the first time, you accept your own defeat. You stared at the mirror, seeing your reflection disgusted you. A spiraling feeling where as you stare at her, all you can see is a deceitful girl who was too selfish and prideful â wondering, if this is all Sunghoon can see in you.
With a heavy heart, you left the restroom, walking towards the empty hallway when someone called your name. You turned around to see him standing there. Your heart skipped a beat but itâs all because of the nervousness that you were feeling.
âWhere did you go?â Sunghoon asked, approaching you but you walked away further, not until he grabbed you by your arms.Â
âLet me go Sunghoon,â you coldly said, which made Sunghoon let go.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with you, I thought youâre not going to make a scene?â he sarcastically stated, making you roll your eyes, seeing that itâs just you and him in the hallway.Â
âSays the guy who made a scene earlier,â you mocked.
It took a minute for Sunghoon to process what you said, eyebrows knitted as he looked at you with anger. âThereâs nothing wrong with dancing with Wonyoung.â
You took a deep breath before facing him. âYou like Wonyoung,â
There it is, the heavy feeling that youâve been holding in ever since your best friend had returned.Â
You can see it. Youâre not dumb to not observe it. Still, it hurts as much as you want to avoid it, you couldnât ignore the way Sunghoonâs eyes light up whenever he talks to Wonyoung. How his voice becomes soft and gentle â something that he has never done to you, and never will he.
Tonight was the final nail. As you watch them dance together, it's hard to ignore that something was sparkling between the two of them, and you hate that the truth is there is. They would make such a better couple, a healthier couple if you must say.Â
âWhat the fuck are you talking about?â Sunghoon asked, appalled.Â
âYou canât fool me Sunghoon, you like Wonyoung, I can see the way you look at her, like sheâs everything to you,â you explained, and every word bites you, hurting you slowly like a venom trailing on your blood.Â
âI donât like her,â Sunghoon confessed, and yet, he only stares at you deadpan. âBut if I had the choice, Iâll marry her instead.âÂ
For a moment you were quiet, then, a bitter laugh escaped your lips because the statement hurts more than Sunghoon actually having feelings for your best friend. âYou really hate me, donât you?â
âHate is such a deep word y/n, I donât hate you, we are just too different,â Sunghoon explained.Â
âI guess you and Wonyoung are much more similar to each other then,â you mocked.Â
âShe supports my passion. She understands where I am coming from,â Sunghoon pointed out. âSomething you never attempt to do.âÂ
You only let out a deep sigh before staring at him one last time. You can feel it, the thumping beat of your heart, the short clasps of your breathing as you could only grasp on your hand tightly.
âIf thatâs the case Sunghoon, let's just end this engagement, nothing good will come out of this.â
Sunghoon looks at you confused, surprised that those words came out of your mouth. âWhat ââ
âHoon, I give up.â you confessed. âI am done cleaning up your mess, convincing you to focus on becoming a doctor while you go around playing in the band, getting drunk, and here you are, blatantly lying to your parents, acting like everythingâs normal.âÂ
âAnd who asked you to do that for me? No one, right? Admit it y/n, youâre just scared because the perfect life that youâve planned was gone.â Sunghoon pointed out.
âYouâre right Sunghoon, thatâs why letâs stop this engagement. I donât want to be married to a guy like you, and clearly you donât want to marry me either.âÂ
Sunghoon gives you a mocking smile. âA guy like me? Like I didnât know your feelings for me, y/n,â
âThe Sunghoon that I loved was the one who was diligent, dedicated, and nice. The one who was excited to study in Decelis to become a doctor. The one who makes me smile and cares for me. Not the drunkard asshole whoâs chasing after a dream because suddenly, your life revolves around playing in the band.â you confessed, glaring at him one last time before walking away.
But it didnât take Sunghoon a minute to reach after you, grabbing your arms and pulling you closer.
âYou really think you can walk away from all of this?â Sunghoon demanded, which made you scoff.Â
âWhat is your problem!? Shouldnât you be happy? Youâre free now!â you shouted, pushing him on his chest, making him step backward and letting you go. Thatâs when you felt your body weakening, you could only hold on your knees as you felt something wet streaming down your eyes. You softly tap your eyes, not noticing how fast the tears streamed down your face.Â
This is the probably the first time you cried. You never cried when you fell from your bicycle. You never cried when you went second place on the honorâs list. You never cried when your parents lecture you. Crying is a sign of weakness for you and you know yourself, that youâre not weak.Â
You wanted to curse everything but only a mocking laugh was all you could do. You hated yourself for being vulnerable for a split second â that you cried because of Sunghoon. Of all the reasons that made you cry, it really has to be him.Â
Thatâs when you stood up, glancing at Sunghoon whose eyes widened to see your watery eyes. He tries to approach you but you only look away. Thatâs when you turned around, running towards the exit and leaving Sunghoon there frozen.Â
As soon as you reached your place, you went straight to your room and locked it. You leaned against the door as you deeply exhaled â but thatâs where the first outburst came. You dropped to your knees, hands covering your face as you continued to wail. It goes on for so long until your breathing becomes slow, hiccups accompanying every sob that you leave your mouth.Â
You donât feel anything but pain. It hurts. Everything just fucking hurts you. Watching Sunghoon be happy with someone else. Knowing the fact that he doesnât want to marry you, and the dream of your perfect life was shattered in just a blink of the night.Â
Everything that you planned is now nowhere to be found. You hated that it all led to this mess, blaming yourself because maybe, thereâs some ways where you couldâve prevented it. Maybe you shouldnât have given up, this may be just a moment of weakness but hearing those words from Sunghoon, tells you that thereâs no hope for everything to be fixed.
Now that everything is done, you could only grab your phone, and as you open it. Your motherâs caller id jumped on the screen. You stared at it for a good minute, but the thought of your mother being disappointed that you and Sunghoon fought, worse, you broke off the engagement scared you.Â
So you blocked her number and quickly dialled a number.Â
âY/n? Hello?â Yizhuoâs sleepy voice answered.Â
âIâm sorry Ning but I need to crash into your place ââ
âWhat, why? What happen ââ
âI broke it off with Sunghoon.â you said, biting your lips to prevent the tears from falling again.
âWhat the fuck y/n!? Grabbing my keys right now, stay right there and Iâm speeding to your place, give me ten minutes!â Yizhuo shouts.Â
The call hung-up immediately, which was your sign. You grabbed all the important stuff that you need. Your books, notes, a few clothes and a few toiletries thatâll last you. You still have a few months left before the semester ends, all you need to do is focus on your studies â if you fail to have a perfect marriage, youâre not letting your dream of becoming a doctor slip away too.Â
Dragging the luggage with you, you hear the car horn and as you step outside, you see the familiar white car Yizhuo owns.Â
âLetâs get the hell out of here,â Yizhuo said, grabbing your luggage and placing it on the back seat. You only sit in the passenger seat as you wait for your friend to enter the driverâs seat.Â
âYou okay?â Yizhuo asked, gently patting your shoulder.Â
Tears started streaming down your face, you could only sob as your best friend pulled you for a hug.
âHeâs not worth it y/n, you deserve someone better,â Yizhuo insisted as she broke out from the hug. âI know itâs hard for you because you love him, but are you really going to settle for less? If he truly cares for you, heâll understand your side despite disliking the idea but he didnât.â
You could only nod at her words, âI know, I give up Ning. Iâm tired, he said he doesnât want to marry me, so everything is useless.âÂ
âHeâs going to regret letting you go,â Yizhuo swore, starting the engine before patting your shoulder once again. âYou can stay in my apartment as long as you want, donât worry about anything, I got you in this one,â Yizhuo only smiled as you drove away from the place, and as you glanced at the rearview mirror, there it was â Sunghoonâs car.Â
You donât know if he saw you leaving the place, but as you felt your phone vibrating and saw his name on your screen, you only closed your phone and glanced at the window of the car, staring at the places that you pass by, thinking that what you did was for your own good too.Â
-
Days after the party, you returned to Decelis University acting like everythingâs normal.
You still did your routine, minimizing some tasks since youâre living under Yizhuoâs place and you donât want to intrude furthermore. You had plans on renting a place on your own but itâll be a few months until your semester break. This temporary housing of yours is better than enduring living with Sunghoon.
You still donât know how to approach your parents with the situation, afraid that it might disappoint them, though your reason wherein itâs not your fault at all is strong, youâre still scared because you just ruin everything they have planned for you.Â
You only sent a short message to your father that you need time to think, before blocking his phone number too. You know that a lecture will await you, but for now, all you want is space from them. You wanted to focus on your goal without their expectations heaving on your back.
You continued going to your class. Preparations for the Decelis medical school entrance exam are near, and youâre multitasking your time doing your studies and reviewing for the exam. Despite the heavy pressure it had instilled, everything felt light for you, you felt your shoulders becoming lighter and your worries seemed to be fading day by day â perhaps itâs because youâre not worrying about Sunghoon anymore.
Sunghoon on the other hand, you donât have any news about him. He doesnât go to your classes either. It looks like he had made up his mind about his life, and whatever he does, you could only wish him good luck.Â
As you exit the department building, you hear a familiar voice calling out your name, turning around, your eyes immediately widened at the figure.Â
âWonyoung, what are you doing here?â you asked, approaching your best friend whoâs sitting on the gazebo in front of your department building.Â
âIâm sorry,â she started. âIâm sorry for ruining what you and Sunghoon had, but listen to me y/n, I donât like Sunghoon, I treat him like a brother the same way I treat you like a sister. What he said to you was so fucking stupid.âÂ
âYou knew?â you asked, surprised.
âI went to your house the next day but Sunghoonâs the only one there. Everyone was worried y/n! They thought you two eloped, you disappeared without saying any word that night, plus you blocked auntieâs phone number.â Wonyoung explained.Â
âIâm sorry, I just â I needed space, my mindâs all over the place, but Wonyoung, Iâm not mad at you, itâs not your fault anyway.âÂ
âSunghoon told me you broke off the engagement,â Wonyoung said. âIs it because of what he said?â
âHe made it clear that he doesnât want to marry me, so whatâs the use Won?â
âYouâre giving up now?â she asked. âYou used to be persistent, y/n what happened?â
âEven I get tired sometimes, Won. SunghoonâŠheâs a hopeless case. No matter how hard I tried to help him, he just didn't want my help.âÂ
âHeâs a mess right now, you know that?â Wonyoung stated. âHeâs been looking for you.âÂ
You halted because of Wonyoungâs words, but quickly, you threw her a bitter smile. âHe has always been a mess Won,â you replied. âIâm just tired of picking up after him.âÂ
Wonyoung merely nods, giving you a pitied smile as she brushes your hair, âI understand where youâre coming from y/n, I know it was also hard for you to decide to break the engagement.â
âHopefully, itâll pass,â you said softly. âYouâre still going to be my maid of honor no matter who Iâm going to marry.âÂ
That made Wonyoung chuckle, which made you laugh, you hugged her once again and as you felt her arms wrapping around you, you felt relief.
You never wanted jealousy to corrupt your mind, but sometimes you couldnât help but be insecure at how Wonyoung and Sunghoonâs relationship remained the same while him and yours disappeared in a glimpse. You know that Wonyoungâs not at fault in this one, everything was just a matter of fallout.Â
âSince youâre here already, why donât we go out for dinner? Oh, Iâll introduce you to Ning! Youâll love her!â you suggested, immediately changing the topic.
âIâve been dying to meet her!â Wonyoung replied, immediately tugging you so that you two can meet your other friend.Â
Turns out Wonyoung and Yizhuo are a two deadly duo. You were half-regretting introducing them to each other because now, they were insisting on going out for the night.Â
âCome on now, you donât have any class for tomorrow and you should relieve your stress,â Yizhuo insisted.Â
âReally y/n? Youâre going to graduate college without experiencing going out with your friends and partying? Itâs a good thing Iâm here because I am not taking a no for an answer,â Wonyoung added.
You only roll your eyes, âyou know that clubs arenât my thing.â
âThatâs because you never experienced it! Come on now, you should loosen yourself up just for one night,â Yizhuo explained. âPlease, you said you need space right? Why not relax? Just for tonight, forget about your parents, their expectations, and your studies. Weâll make it worth it.âÂ
You only stared at the two of them, both with pleading eyes as they clasp their hands together. Another roll in your eyes was made but thereâs a small smile on your face. âFine, if I passed-out drunk, you guys take care of me.âÂ
Both squealed in agreement, excited as Wonyoung fished out her phone to make a reservation at a famous club in the city center, while Yizhuo immediately dragged you towards the parking lot where her car is parked, excited to go home so that you can change into something daring (she said) and party all night.
The club was full by the time the three of you arrived, Wonyoung strutted on the small walkway, excusing the strangers as she held your hand while Yizhuoâs behind you, guiding your way towards your table.
A small table for three was reserved for you, a bottle of tequila with lemon and salt was arranged neatly there. As soon as you three reached the place, you immediately sat on the couch while Yizhuo opened the bottle.Â
âI hope you know how to take a shot,â she teasingly said as she poured the shot glass full.Â
âI know how to, youâre making me like Iâm such a nerd that doesnât go out of her house,â you insisted.
âShe drinks, she just doesnât like going out to clubs,â Wonyoung whispered to Yizhuo who glanced at you while you boredly raised an eyebrow.
âWell, weâre going to change that, cheers!â Yizhuo shouts, raising the glass which you and Wonyoung copied. The first shot of tequila went straight down on your throat, leaving a burning feeling downwards your chest which made you sneer for a second.Â
Shot after shot, you lost count the amount of times the three of you took a shot, the tequila bottle is almost half. Your mind has become hazy, spinning but you can manage it. All you can hear is the loud music coming from the speakers, the dj playing Taylor Swiftâs songs which was so fucking random and yet, you didnât care. You were singing your lungs out along with Wonyoung and Yizhuo who are also tipsy.Â
âLetâs hit the dance floor!â Yizhuo suggested when the song changed to some edm music, the three of you squeezed yourself on the dance floor, dancing and singing along as you bumped onto a few people, giving them smiles and small apologies while never stopping dancing.Â
You never felt more alive. You didnât care what would happen tomorrow, all you cared about was that youâre having fun with the two girls that treat you like your sister. They were right, this is what you need and youâre just so happy that you agreed to go out with them.Â
Thatâs why you pulled them closer together, âI love you guys!â you shouted, which only made them laugh.
âOh my gosh, sheâs the emotional type of drunk,â Yizhuo giggled.Â
âShe only says that when sheâs drunk, so savor it,â Wonyoung replied, hugging you back. âI love you too!â making the three of you squeal together before breaking out to continue dancing.Â
You only let your body sway along with the music, not noticing a hand wrapping around your waist and as you turn around, you see a guy your age, smiling at you as he hands you his shot glass.Â
âNo thank you,â you smiled, âI already have one.âÂ
But he only laughed, âthereâs no harm in having another one.â
You only let out a small giggle as you shrug, taking the shot and drinking it straight. You can hear his cheer, along with some guys that youâre unfamiliar with. You failed to notice Yizhuo and Wonyoung whereabouts as you continued to dance with the stranger.Â
âYou come here often?â he asked, and you only shook your head.Â
âItâs too crowded here!â you shouted back. The place was getting hotter, crowds becoming bigger as the guyâs body became way too close to you.Â
âCrowded huh? Do you want to go somewhere less crowded?âÂ
Maybe it was the alcohol â you donât know, your headâs spinning and everything has become blurry to you, but all you can remember was that you nod at his answer. âOkay! Iâm just going to tell my friends Iâm leaving.â
âAlright sweetheart.â he smirked, his hold from your waist loosened.Â
You tried to find your friends, but your mind is spinning â you couldnât even remember where your table was. Your head searched sideways, when you felt a tug on your arm, making you turn around.
âSheâs not going with you,â Sunghoon said with a cold tone.
âDude fuck off, go pick some other girls around here,â the stranger tried to pull you away but Sunghoon was fast, immediately backing you behind him.Â
âSheâs my fiance, if you donât want any trouble, get lost,â Sunghoon warns.Â
âFuck off Sunghoon,â you rebutted, shaking your grip away from Sunghoon who was surprised by your action. âWeâre through, remember?âÂ
The stranger chuckled, âshe doesnât even want you here, so fuck off, will ya?â
But it didnât take a split second for Sunghoon to hit him on the face. His fist landing directly on the nose which made the stranger stumble down.Â
Everyone was surprised when the guy fell on the ground, immediately stepping out from the fight. Sunghoon attempted to give the guy another punch but Heeseung and Jay managed to grab him. You didnât process everything until you felt Wonyoung and Yunjin were behind you.Â
âWhat happened â Sunghoon!â Wonyoung shrieks. The stranger stood up from the ground, but Sunghoon was quick to get away from his friend and charge towards him, landing another punch, and if it wasnât enough, he landed another, this time harder.Â
It didnât take a minute for the bouncers to enter the scene, separating the two of them. You werenât able to understand anything, all you know was that your friends pulled you out of the club along with Sunghoon and his friends.Â
âDude calm down,â Heeseung said trying to keep his friend still but Sunghoon pulled away, almost jabbing his friend who only stepped back with hands raised.Â
âHow can I fucking calm down when y/n almost got in danger tonight!?â he pointed out.
âYou almost killed someone!â Jay shouted, trying to get a grip on Sunghoon but he got pushed away too.Â
âHe should be lucky because I hold back a little bit,â Sunghoon sarcastically laughs. âHe deserves it, the way he looked at y/n? I know he has bad intentions.âÂ
âStop caring Sunghoon!â you shouted, senses finally hitting you. âSo what if Iâll go with that guy? Weâre done, remember? I can meet whoever I like.âÂ
âI donât care if weâre through, you couldnât even take care of yourself. What the fuck are you even doing at a club?â Sunghoon lectured.
Thatâs when you scoff, âjust because you can have fun, doesnât me I can.â
âOh, so thatâs your idea of fun? Getting drugged by a stranger and who knows what theyâll do to you â fucking careless,â Sunghoon lets out a deep sigh, his anger heightening as he glared at Wonyoung.Â
âIf it wasnât for me, she wouldâve been in danger tonight, what the hell Won!?â Sunghoon angrily lectures.Â
âSunghoon stop blaming us, we were there and we were just letting y/n have fun, weâre not that stupid to let her go with that guy. You just really have to interfere first,â Wonyoung explained, forehead creased with anger.
Sunghoon could only roll his eyes, groaning as he frustratedly brushed his hair. âThis is fucking stupid, you three arenât even safe there!âÂ
âJust go home Sunghoon,â you shouted once again, making him glance at you. âYouâre ruining our night for fuckâs sake.â
But in a split second, Sunghoon pulls you away from Yizhuo, and before you could say another thing, he grabs you by your knees and swings you on his shoulders, your upper body bumping on his back.Â
âSunghoon! Put me down!â you shouted, punching his back but Sunghoon remained unfazed, he then glanced at his friends who were surprised by his action.
âNo one follows, this is between the two of us,â Sunghoon warned before he walked towards his car.Â
You tried to struggle your way out of his hold, but Sunghoonâs too strong for you. He managed to put you in the passenger seat, even putting on the belt on you.Â
âSunghoon ââÂ
âStop struggling y/n, weâll go home now.âÂ
âSunghoon, what fuck is wrong with you? Weâre done, how many times do I have to tell you that!?â you shouted at him. âYouâre suffocating me.â
âAnd so do I with you, but we canât always have what we want.â Sunghoon stated, slamming the door of the car. You werenât able to say another word, not knowing what he meant by that.
The drive towards your place was quiet yet tense, you could only close your eyes as the throbbing feeling in your head started to become worse. You had too many to drink but all you know that what the guy gave you was just a normal shot. If it wouldâve been drugged, then you shouldâve been passed-out by now.Â
As Sunghoon parked the car inside, you could only stare at the entrance of the house. You do miss your house but thereâs a deep feeling of pain lingering in your heart as it reminds you of Sunghoon. You didnât even notice that Sunghoon had opened the door for you, and you mindlessly left the car.Â
Entering the living room, you only stood there as you stare at the place â Sunghoon had maintained it clean even though you left, surprising you since you spent your mornings cleaning the house.Â
You can hear the door closing, softly Sunghoonâs footsteps approach you but he stops midway. Thatâs when you realized how suffocating the emptiness the house had.Â
âWhat is this Sunghoon?â you immediately asked, not even bothering looking at him.
âI just took you home,â Sunghoon simply said and you wanted to laugh. Home. you knew that home meant a lively house with a loving family, not a tense one with a broken engagement.Â
âSunghoon, since it still hasnât sunk in your mind, our engagement is done, isnât that what you want?â you repeated.Â
âWell, did you even tell that to your parents?â Sunghoon asked casually. âMy parents donât know it yet.âÂ
You didnât answer and Sunghoon immediately knew.Â
âOf course you havenât,â he teased. âThat technically means weâre still engaged to each other.âÂ
You only closed your eyes, trying to compose yourself as you felt conflicted. âI donât understand you Sunghoon, what do you even want? You made it very clear back then that youâd prefer to marry Wonyoung instead of me. Why bring me here again!?â
âI donât know,â Sunghoon confessed. âItâs justâŠitâs so lonely here.âÂ
âIâm not a doll that you can keep,â you heaved.Â
âI miss you.â he breathes, and your eyes widen but you could only let out a bitter laugh.Â
âSuddenly you miss me? Sunghoon the last time you told me, you donât want to marry me. Shouldnât you be happy that weâre done.â
âThat doesnât equate to the fact that I donât want to call off the engagement,â he stated.Â
âYouâre confusing me Sunghoon, stand your ground, you donât want to marry me but you donât want the engagement to be broken? What do you even want?â
âI was hoping that your mind might change,â Sunghoon said, almost pleading. âThat somewhere in you, thereâs that girl who first recognized my talent.âÂ
Silence. You werenât able to say another word. Slowly, you turned around to see him standing there. His gaze at you gentle and pleading, far different from the looks he gave to you.Â
âDo you remember the first time we met?â Sunghoon told you. âDo you remember what you told me?â
Of course. âYou have a talent for playing the piano!â you recalled. It was the first thing you said when both your parents introduced you to Sunghoon. It didnât sinked into you that those words of your younger self would stick in Sunghoonâs mind.Â
âWhen I first joined the band, I thought youâll be supportive because youâre the first one to recognize my love for playing the piano, but nothing,â Sunghoon chuckles bitterly. âI was hoping that someday, you would understand why I am chasing after my passion. Thatâs why I was so happy that you watched our performance that night â but youâre too stuck in that dream of yours to recognize it.âÂ
âItâs not just a dream Hoon, it's what's expected from me, and being a doctor, thatâs whatâs also expected from you.â
âHave you ever thought of what you want? Are you just going to wake up everyday, listen to your parentsâ expectations and follow it? Do you have any idea how sad that is?âÂ
âIâm my parentsâ only daughter, who else is going to make them proud aside from me?â you bitterly said. âAnd I want this too Hoon, so Iâm sorry if my dream isnât in the form of a passion unlike yours.â
âYouâre not going to change your mind arenât you?â Sunghoon mumbled. âI only pursued my passion and suddenly Iâm not fit for your life anymore?âÂ
âItâs not just about having a perfect life, Hoon. My parents wanted me to marry a doctor, and Iâm not going to push you anymore when itâs obvious that your heart beats for your passion.â you explained.Â
âWhat about your heart then? What does your heart yearn for? Youâre not going to fight for me anymore?â he said, almost pleading. A desperate turn in his tone shifted in you.Â
âIâm done fighting for you Hoon,â you bitterly smiled. âWhy are you suddenly asking me all of this?â
âYouâre done with me? Thatâs it?âÂ
âSunghoon, Iâm really, really tired with everything.â you pleaded. âWeâre just going to hurt each other the more we stay in this engagement.â
Sunghoon only stared at you. For a moment, he wanted to rebut your words. He wanted for you to fight furthermore because he knows you. Youâre hard-headed, youâre not the type that wonât give up easily. But as he looks in your eyes, all he can is your desperation, eyes that scream for him that youâre tired of everything.Â
âYouâre really tired arenât you?â he asked once again.Â
âJust let me go Hoon, please.â you whispered.Â
âFine,â he said, defeated. âOnly if you stay for the night.â
âWhat?â you asked, his request was sudden.
âStay for the night, for me,â he said, almost pleading. âAfter this, I wonât disturb you anymore. Please, just stay for tonight.âÂ
It didnât sink in everything he said, you could only stare at him, eyes wide as you can see how his eyes were almost begging for you.Â
âI justâŠmiss you so much,â he whispered. âBut after this, weâre done. Iâm going to tell my parents that weâre breaking off the engagement.âÂ
âOkay,â you said in defeat, and Sunghoon could only nod. He grabs your hand and you let him do so.
You found yourself in his room. The silence was engulfing, you stood there clueless as Sunghoon opened his closet, grabbing a shirt and pajamas for you â like you didnât have any clothes left in your room next door. But you let it be, grabbing the clothes and going towards his bedroomâs bathroom.Â
You can feel your heart beating fast. You were nervous, you donât know what to do since this is the first time you and Sunghoon will sleep together. Sure, you had sleepovers back when you were kids, but those were the three of you. This one is just going to be the two of you, alone, in one bed.
But thatâs his only request, when tomorrow comes, everything will be over now. Itâs not like you two are going to do something, Sunghoon only wishes for you to stay for the night.
As you entered the room, you saw Sunghoon sitting on the edge of his bed, already in his sleeping clothes. He only stretched out his hands which you accepted and softly, he pulled you to his bed.Â
âLetâs go to sleep?â he asked, almost inaudible. You only nod at his request and with that, the two of you settled underneath the blankets. You couldnât even move, you had your back against Sunghoon and you wondered if heâs already asleep or not.Â
It was as if he had read your mind, you felt Sunghoon shifted from his place â and in a second, warm arms wrapped around you and pulled you closer. Your breath halted as his hug tightened, your back almost resting on his chest, like heâs never wanting to let you go. It left you even more confused than ever, you two were never this intimate, and this will probably be the last time you two will be.Â
âGoodnight y/n,â he whispered, and you can feel his lips touching the top of your head.Â
Goodnight Sunghoon. You said in your mind.
âIâm sorry for everything.â Sunghoon mumbled, barely audible.Â
You only closed your eyes, taking a long deep breath to hold yourself from crying. You wondered why he suddenly apologized. Why now? When everything is bound to be over. But you didnât say a word, you tried to sleep instead, knowing that thereâs no will inside you left to fight for yourself and Sunghoon.Â
Goodbye Sunghoon.

The first semester has ended. The weather has become cold as fall passes by. Decelis University has slowly become empty with students going home to their hometown.Â
The remaining months of your semester became a blur to you. You passed all your courses with ease and you managed to receive an academic honor for it. Emails from medical school offers had been appearing in your emails too, which meant that youâre secured to attend med school after graduation. Everything has been good to you â you got everything you need.
When you returned to your hometown, your parents spared you. They told you that they understand why you did it, letting it pass since you didnât abandon your studies at all. They learned from Sunghoonâs parents that the engagement was called off. They didnât ask you furthermore about it, and you could do nothing but to apologize not only to your parents but also to the Park family. Disappointment runs through your mind, especially when Sunghoonâs parents trusted you with their son â only for you to fail them.
A knock on the door disturbed your day, as you turned around you saw your parents entering your room.Â
âStill studying dear? Youâre doing too much now y/n,â your mom softly said, sitting on the edge of the bed along with your father.Â
But you only smile, âI want to make sure that Iâll be able to pass Decelisâ entrance exam for medical school, you told me that the passing rate there is small.â
âYes I know that sweetie but youâre doing too much, why donât you do something else aside from studying?â your father suggested.Â
But you only let out a laugh, âI'm all good dad, thanks for the concern though.â
âHave you ever thought of doing something else y/n? Something that you love?â your mom asked. Thatâs when you dropped your book, glancing at the two of them.
âLove?âÂ
âA hobby, what about tennis? Youâre great at that sport, maybe you can be an athlete,â your mom happily said.Â
âOh, I do remember that you used to do ballet, I think you still have the skills sweetie,â your father added, which left you confused but chuckling.Â
âMom, dad, what is this all about?â you asked. Silence hovered in the room for a minute, both your parents looked at each other, trying to signal each other who should talk, which left your mother sighing.Â
âMaybe, we shouldnât have pushed you too hard to become a doctor,â your mother pointed out. âAnd itâs okay for us if you donât want ââ
âI want to become a doctor mom, that has always been my dream,â you rebutted, shifting your focus on your book. âIâm okay, donât worry about me.â
âWe had a talk with Sunghoonâs parents,â thatâs when you stopped, glancing at them once again. âThey explained why you two called it off.â
âOkay,â you shortly replied. You remember that night where you and Sunghoon slept together. His apology still lingers in your mind. Thereâs a part of you that wanted to know what he was sorry for.Â
But the more you stay there, the more the pain deepens in your heart. You slipped away from his hold the next morning, and starting that day, you never heard anything from Sunghoon.Â
He didnât show up to any of his classes. He just disappeared like a bubble. Wonyoung told you that he doesnât reply to her texts either. You donât know if he continued performing in Arcanum, or did he ghost his band members. Itâs funny how even though you two are already over, you still have a bit of concern for him.Â
âSweetie, we understand Sunghoon. He chose his dream and maybe it was a little disappointing for you because you always dream that you and Sunghoon will become doctors together, but there will come a point where your dream will change.â your father explained. âSunghoon just so happens to rekindle his passion for music, it happens.âÂ
âAnd thereâs nothing I can do about it,â you told them. âThatâs why thereâs no reason for the engagement to continue.â
âWe shouldnât have pressured you to become a doctor,â your mother insisted. âWe were wrong in that part, and weâre very sorry about it dear.â
âMom, even if you donât pressure me, I still want to become a doctor no matter what, I will follow your footsteps, so donât be sorry about it.â
âItâs not just about becoming a doctor,â your father pointed out. âItâs about your engagement with Sunghoon, we shouldnât have done that.â
âItâs already over, so you shouldnât worry about it.â
âListen y/n, when we set you and Sunghoon to marry, itâs not for our business to emerge. We just knew that you two love each other.â your father explained, hand resting on your knees. The old man faintly smiles at you. âYou two were too young to understand it, but it was also our fault for putting so much expectations on the two of you â we shouldâve let you two navigate your feelings on your own.âÂ
âBut you said, I should marry a doctor,â you pointed out. âI always knew that itâs going to be Sunghoon, but he changed dad. If he canât be the one, Iâll just find someone in med school.â
âOh sweetie, weâre terribly sorry for saying that,â thatâs when your mother pulls you to a hug. âBut we still want you to marry for love, and dear, itâs not always about his profession, but how heâs going to treat you as your husband.â
âWhy now? Why say that to me all of the sudden?â you questioned, breaking out from your motherâs touch.
âWe didnât think itâll come to this point ââ
âNo, because from the very start you two insisted that I should marry a doctor because thatâs what you two wanted for me! I was lucky that Sunghoon wanted to become a doctor but when he changed his dreams, I did everything just for him to go back!â you shouted.
Both your parents were surprised to hear your voice raise. You stood there, shaking as tears started to flow from your eyes once again.
âI did everything in my life just to please your expectations because I know that you two always know whatâs best for me, and I didnât want to fail you guys. But now, I feel so stupid because suddenly, I have the freedom to choose what I want,â a bitter laugh escapes your mouth, you brushed your hair as you bit your lips. Trying to stop the tears from falling.
âI even roped Sunghoon in my dreams because thatâs what you guys want for me, and I was scared of disappointing you two if he didnât become a doctor â you couldâve told me from the start! Then maybe, I couldâve supported Sunghoon instead of suffocating him.âÂ
Your parents remained quiet. Sitting there as they watch their daughter cry. Both of them were surprised, never thinking theyâll see you cry. You have always been a strong girl for them, but then again, everyone crumbles.Â
âWe can still fix it dear,â your mother insisted.Â
âItâs too late now mom,â you answered. âItâs not just about the engagement, Sunghoon and I, weâre done with everything. We spent our lives living up to your expectations, and this is the only time we made a choice for ourselves.â
Before they could say anything. You scurried to grab your phone and jacket, storming out of your room as your parents couldnât do anything but watch you disappear from their sight.Â
You found yourself at the small playground near your house. Sitting on the end of the slide as you hiccup your cries.
You hate your parents and how their mind suddenly changed in a glimpse. Marry for love? Love was never the problem for you, it was the fact that they spent your whole life shaping you into an ideal life only for them to take it back. Youâll marry for love in a heartbeat but it never crossed your mind because their expectations came first.Â
If only. You could only think of the what-ifs because somehow, you spent your whole life making your parents proud â that you couldnât even make a choice on your own. âDo you have any idea how sad that is?â you remember Sunghoonâs words to you, making you close your eyes as tears continued to flow along with your soft sobs.
Sunghoonâs right. All your life you did your best to follow your parentsâ footsteps, never tried to navigate other hobbies or passions â perhaps thatâs why you werenât able to understand Sunghoonâs dreams at all. You suddenly felt lost, not knowing what to do with your life anymore. Sunghoon and Wonyoung, theyâll be choosing the things they love.
What about you? You donât know anymore, you donât even know if becoming a doctor is what you want â or itâs just something that has been engraved to you by your parents that you learned to love it somehow.Â
ây/n?â You looked up and to your surprise, Sunghoonâs mother was standing in front of you.Â
âAuntie,â you quickly stood up and wiped the tears away. âWhat brings you here?â
âI was supposed to visit you today,â she said with a soft tone. âBut I caught you here on the way, is there something wrong?âÂ
You immediately fake a smile, even though your nose was runny and eyes are puffy red, you tried your best to assure the woman that youâre okay. But she simply shakes her head before patting your head.Â
âCome on, letâs have a talk.â
You two ended up in a small coffee shop nearby. You watch as Mrs. Park lightly sips on her tea, before glancing at you. She then smiles, and you can see where Sunghoon got his eye smile, and somehow, that comforts you.Â
âWhen Sunghoon told us that he wanted to play for a band instead, we were disappointed,â Mrs. Park explained. âHis dad was furious, but what else can we do? Stop him from doing what he loves?â
You only remained quiet, listening to Mrs. Park as she softly chuckled. âAs parents, we only want whatâs best for our children, but itâs still up to them to choose their future. For Sunghoon, we let him be, itâs what he wants.â
Then, she glances at you. âYou know, Sunghoon broke the engagement because he doesnât want to hurt you anymore?â
âIâm sorry I gave up on him.â you apologized immediately. âWe â weâre just too different auntie.â
âWell, opposites do attract my dear,â she jokingly said, making you let out a small chuckle. From there, her expression softens. Looking at you pitifully, the woman can see the stress you went through and it breaks her heart, knowing that they were the reasons why youâre like that.Â
âYouâve done a lot for my son y/n, and I am thankful for that,â Mrs. Park smiles. âYouâll be a great wife for him, someone whoâll come to knock his senses but â everyone gets tired sometimes.âÂ
You only smile at her, but Mrs. Parkâs eyes glistened with a meaningful smile on her lips. âThatâs why itâs important to rest, everything is not the end just because you were tired.âÂ
You became quiet because of her words. Mrs. Park stretches her hand, holding your hand as she squeezed it lightly. âJust rest dear, take your time for yourself, everything is not too late.â
âBut ââ
âListen to your heart this time dear, only your heart knows whatâs truly best for you.â
-
You returned to your shared house a week before the next semester started.Â
The moment you opened the door, you were welcomed by its hollow silence, making you bitterly smile because you do miss the silence â and youâll miss it more now that it wonât be the place youâll go home to.
Slowly, you opened your room and noticed that it was the same as how you left it the night you ran away. Sunghoon didnât touch any of it, and you were glad that he didnât. You didnât waste any time, you grabbed the luggage that you brought with you, packing all the things that you have in your room.Â
You spent the day packing your things. Neatly folding everything, and stacking it inside your storage box. You managed to finish it before sunset, going back and forth to load it inside your car. And with one last glance in the empty room, you could only mutter goodbye as you dragged your luggage with you.Â
But as soon as you reach the living room, you hear the doorknob unlocking, making you stop. You can feel your heart starting to beat fast, praying that it wonât be him.Â
âY/n?â you saw how Sunghoonâs eyes widened as he saw you, but his eyes immediately darted at the luggage that you were holding.Â
You only took a deep breath before giving him a smile, âI just came by to grab my things.âÂ
âWait, wait â why?â Sunghoon hurriedly went towards you, hands grabbing your arm.Â
âOur engagementâs over Sunghoon, so thereâs no need for us to be together,â you gritted your teeth. Every word felt like a knife stabbing inside you.Â
âY/n, can you just listen to me ââ
âSunghoon stop, thereâs nothing for us to talk about.âÂ
âYou know that everythingâs not too late right? We can still fix it.â
âWhatâs to fix Sunghoon?â you asked. âI thought we made it clear that weâre done.â
âIf youâre done fighting for me, then Iâm fighting for you now,â Sunghoon insisted, grabbing you by your shoulders. You tried to get out of his hold but he tightens his hold on you.Â
âWhy now Hoon? Where were you, when I was fighting for everything? You canât just enter my life and expect me to accept you immediately ââ
âI love you okay!?â he shouted, completely shutting you off. Eyes wide from the sudden confession.Â
Sunghoon looks at you, his eyes stressed and dark, yet it screams for your plea. âIâm sorry that I realized my feelings just now, I know I was late but itâs never too late for us, just listen to me ââ
âHoon stop ââ
âY/n, just for once why donât you listen to your heart?â Sunghoon stated. âYou know deep inside, that itâs not too late for us to fix it. Your parents, my parents, they know that itâs not too late, itâs only you who doesnât want to â"
âBecause Iâm scared, Hoon!â you shouted, shutting Sunghoon off.Â
âI donât know what to do with my life anymore Hoon and that fucking scares me. Suddenly I have my own freedom and I donât know whether my decisions will be right or wrong. If I end up choosing what my heart wants, I might just ended up failing myselfâ
âYou know you donât always need to be perfect right?â Sunghoon whispered to you. âPeople make mistakes y/n, weâre flawed, and thereâs nothing wrong with making mistakes.â
You only shake your head. âI donât know Hoon, I donât know what I should do anymore.â
âJust listen to your heart,â The hold on your shoulders tightens. âGo for the things you love, not because itâs what your parents taught you, or because itâs whatâs for the best. You know this y/n, what do you want?âÂ
You. You thought. In a heartbeat, it has always been Sunghoon. Despite all the mess, the rough paths, and fights you two had. In the end, your heart beats for him.Â
And as you look at him, there were no longer cold gaze and emptiness in his eyes, his eyes yearn for you too. The years of your unrequited love for him are over now.
âItâs you Hoon,â you mumbled, a bite on your lips as you started stuttering. âIâm just afraid after everything that happened to us.â
âWe can work it out, we may have started on a rough path but I know that we can make it through.â he deeply sighs. âIâm sorry for everything, I know I said some harsh words but I was angry at that time, Iâm sorry y/n, I was just frustrated but I didnât mean every word that I said, it has always been you,â
You only stared at him, âhow can I trust you Sunghoon?â
âLet me make it up to you y/n,â he swore, hands finding its way to your face. âIf you let me, Iâll prove it to you.â
âHow? How can I be so sure about you?â
âWeâll start again y/n, donât worry about us, weâll navigate this together, I wonât hurt you anymore.â Sunghoon promised. âJust be with me okay? Youâll be there for me right?âÂ
You only stared at Sunghoon. He has his lips tightly sealed, his eyes were searching for yours, the same eyes that yearned for you that night. Your heart started beating faster, and you werenât able to process that tears are starting to fall from your eyes. Your mind was telling you to run away again, but your heart â it beats for him.Â
You donât know what to say, you only nod at his words. Thatâs when Sunghoon understood what you meant. Slowly he leans in, closing the space between the two of you.Â
You always thought that your first kiss with Sunghoon would be at your wedding. After you two exchange vows. It'll be short yet momentary. Significant in your life and a symbol that you and Sunghoon are going to be together, forever.Â
But as he kissed you right now after swearing to prove his worth for you, thatâs when it halted you that Sunghoonâs words werenât just empty promises. The way his lips trailed on yours, hands holding your face gently as he tilts more to deepen the kiss â making you kiss him back, softly yet surely.
You two werenât wearing your wedding clothes, no rings, nor applauses from the crowd. Itâs just the two of you, alone, in your houseâ living room.
As you two broke from the kiss, Sunghoonâs forehead rested on yours, catching each otherâs breath, you can see the small smile forming on Sunghoonâs lips.Â
âTell me itâs true Sunghoon,â you whispered to him, eyes never leaving him. âI want to hear it from you.â
âI love you y/n,â Sunghoon confesses. âIt has always been you, and no one else.âÂ
You could only chuckle in disbelief as you felt a tear fall from your eyes, Sunghoon quickly wiped it off with his thumb before pulling you for another kiss, to which you responded quickly. From there, everything started to heat up, you could only place your arms around Sunghoonâs neck as you two continued to kiss like thereâs no tomorrow.Â
Sunghoon didnât waste any second. He grabs you by your thighs, lifting you up with ease without breaking the kiss, while you wrap your legs around his waist for support. The two of you ended up in his room wherein he gently placed you down to his bed.Â
âAre you sure about this?â he softly asked, eyes never leaving yours. He looks at you lovingly, like he was mesmerized that youâre his.Â
âIâm sure,â you answered. âAnd Iâm sure that itâs going to be you Sunghoon.âÂ
âIâll take good care of you then,â Sunghoon answered before leaning down for another kiss. You only closed your eyes and kissed Sunghoon back.Â
You can feel it. The longing of tasting each other. The way Sunghoon kisses you gently, taking his time to savor you as he deepens his lips on you more. Soft nibbles on your lower lip making you whimper softly.
It went on and on, no one dared to break the kiss. Both hands trying to navigate each other. His right hand finds its way to yours, clasping between your fingers as he rests it on the side of your head.Â
Sunghoon breaks from the kiss, but immediately places his lips on your jawline until it reaches your neck. Planting soft kisses like he wanted to taste every skin of yours. His left hand finds its way to your body, gently tracing your upper body as you grasp on his sheets.Â
âCan I?â he asked, tugging at the hem of your shirt, which you nodded feverishly. You lifted yourself slightly for Sunghoon to remove your shirt before removing his shirt too. His toned body, and carved abs revealed in front of you which you could only stare for a minute. Who wouldâve thought that underneath those baggy hoodies and large shirts, is a godlike body?Â
On the other hand, Sunghoon didnât waste any time, he grabs your face once again, locking you to a kiss thatâs more intense, hungrier than earlier. He was battling to get a taste of you more, tongue swiping on your lower lip making you moan, you could only shut your eyes as Sunghoon sloppily entered his tongue inside you.
Teeths clashing, tongue travelling inside you, your body started to heat up as Sunghoon continued to taste your lips further. He then started targeting your neck, making you tilt your head to make room for him. Hot, messy, wet kisses trailing on every skin his lips could reach. You let out a soft moan as Sunghoonâs hands trailed towards your bra, softly cupping your breast while his lips continued to bite your neck, sucking it lightly leaving purple marks all over it. Â
âSo beautiful, only for me right?â he whispered to your left ear, planting a kiss on it before glancing at you.Â
âOnly for you Hoon,â you whispered back, Sunghoon merely chuckling before darting his eyes on your lower body.Â
âIs this your first?â he asked, you only nod.
âBeen waiting for you.â you muttered, and the next thing you knew, Sunghoonâs lips were on yours once again.Â
âGood girl, weâll make it worth it yeah?â Sunghoon asked. âItâll be special for us, weâll be each otherâs first. I told you Iâll prove my worth to you.âÂ
Sunghoon gently unbuttons your pants before tugging it downwards, leaving you in your panties while he hastily removes his shorts, leaving him in his boxers.Â
âCome here love,â he gestured as he sat on the mattress, you only followed him as he pulled you to sit on his lap. A gasp leaving your lips as you could only hold your breath, feeling Sunghoon hard underneath. Heâs big. You can feel it as you sit prettily on it, your clothed cunt just right above it.Â
Your thoughts only trailed off as Sunghoon continued to kiss you, hands attempting to unclasp your bra which made you chuckle in the middle of your makeout. You helped him unclasp it before throwing the bra somewhere.Â
âSo fucking gorgeous for me,â Sunghoon gestured. His hands started circling on your boobs, cupping your right side making you whimper. Sunghoon's eyes never leaving yours as his hands trailed downwards, fingers tracing every skin of your body until it reached the hem of your panties.Â
âIs it okay?â he asked.Â
âPlease Sunghoon,â you pleaded, unable to ignore the heat that youâve been feeling.Â
Sunghoonâs fingers delicately feather on your clothed pussy. You softly moan as his palms cup it, rubbing on it as the slightest friction heats you furthermore. You wanted more, unknowingly you bucked your hips to his hand. Sunghoon fastens the way he rubs your pussy as you continue grinding against it.Â
âSunghoon ââÂ
âDo you want to touch mine too?â he asked, tone deeper than usual. You only stared at him for a good minute before you nod.Â
Sunghoon grabs your hand, gently guides it until your palm rests on his hard-on. Itâs straining underneath his boxer, and just from your touch, you know that one hand wasnât enough. You palmed it slowly, hearing soft breathing Sunghoon which fueled something in you.
âCan I do it?â you asked, your hands trailing on the hem of his boxer.Â
âGo on love,â he whispered, planting a kiss on your temple.Â
You pulled Sunghoonâs boxer, his hard length springing from it. Hard and thick, you looked at Sunghoon as you wrapped your hands around it, and youâre right, one hand isnât enough. Your hands reach its tip, the pre-cum budding on its end, having you smear it as you circled your palms on his tip.Â
You watched as Sunghoon looked at you darkly. A faint smirk on his lips as you felt his fingers slipped under your panties, you let out a soft moan as his fingers found their way on your pussy. Softly trailing on its lips before going up to your clit, three fingers circling it slowly which made you twitch for a second.Â
Your hands started to stroke Sunghoonâs cock, slow and steady like you're memorizing every inch of it. It goes the same with him as he continues to rub your clit, harder leaving you breathless as you continue to pump his cock faster, squeezing his tip at every chance that you can. Earning breathy groans from him.Â
âGoing to prepare you love, just breathe for me okay?â Sunghoon instructed and you could only moan in response. Your other hand found its hold on his shoulders, head resting on it as you nervously can feel his fingers near your entrance.Â
âYouâre so wet for me, so fucking good,â he whispered to you, before slipping inside your pussy. You let out a deep sigh as his index finger rested inside you. âJust relax for me okay?â slowly he drags his fingers in and out, watching you fall in front of him as you couldnât do anything but to leave breathy moans.Â
âSunghoon ââ you called out as you could feel him insert another finger inside you, the sudden move made you squeeze his dick hard, making Sunghoon curse under his breath. You mindlessly continued to stroke it as Sunghoonâs fingers circled inside you.Â
âRelax for me love, we donât want to hurt you,â Sunghoon assured, kissing your right temple as he continued to finger you. Itâs playing inside you, knuckles deep as his long fingers kept pumping inside you, curling at a spot that you feel sensitive the most. Heâs stretching you, trying his best to prepare you, his fingers continue to scissor your walls at a right pace, reaching deep inside you.
âI want to come,â you mumbled as you could feel it coming inside you. Your hands gave up on stroking his dick, which made Sunghoon slow down his actions.
âYouâre going to come with me inside, can you do that?â you quickly nod in his words, kissing his lips as he removed his fingers from you. You didnât miss the way your pussy ached, but Sunghoon was quick to grab your waist.Â
Gently, he lays you down on his bed, and you watch as he reaches for his bedroomâs drawer, pulling the upper box and scavenging something there.Â
âWhy ââ
âJust making sure weâre safe,â Sunghoon told you.Â
âYeah, but why do you have thatâŠâ you mindlessly asked, heat rushing towards your cheeks as you stared at Sunghoon.Â
âHeeseung gave it to me as a joke ââ Sunghoon groans, embarrassed. âBut at least weâre safe, right?â
âRight,â you whispered, leaning more against the pillow.Â
Sunghoon removes his boxer. Your eyes wandered at his cock again, hard and lengthy, you could only bite your lips as you wondered how it would fit you. Sunghoon eyes on you, like he's ready to devour as he pumps his cock with his right hand while he bites on the foil packet, tearing it open and grabbing the condom, sheathing it on his already sensitive cock.Â
Both of you never left each otherâs gaze, you lifted your lower body for you to remove your panties, shamelessly spreading your legs in front of him. Your heart started to beat fast, nervousness started to hit you, but you were only assured when Sunghoon planted another kiss on your lips.Â
âTake a deep breath for me, okay? Iâll put on the tip first,â he guided you. You only nod at his words, laying back as you try to relax yourself.Â
Sunghoon could only bite his lips as he stared at you, legs spread with your glistening pussy on display. Youâre his. Youâre his to keep. Something about that thought had Sunghoonâs heart racing, unraveling a feeling of having you all by himself.Â
Sunghoon kneels in front of you, hands on your thighs as he hovers over you. He grabs his cock, stroking it steadily making him hiss lightly, at the same time, he grazes it on your cuntâs lips, making you moan.Â
You took a deep breath as you felt Sunghoonâs dick on your entrance, its girth enough for you to whimper even though it was just a tip. Sunghoon kept on glancing at you, trying to test if you can take it, careful as he pushed his tip inside you, making you let out a soft groan.Â
âFuck Hoon,â you said, feeling your entrance tearing apart.Â
âItâs just my tip love,â Sunghoon told you, âwe can stop if you want ââ
âNo, no, I want it,â you let out a sigh. âPlease, just go slowly.âÂ
âYou want it all inside?â Sunghoon asked, eyes wide.Â
âI want to feel you, Hoon.â
Sunghoon was hesitant, seeing your eyes start to water, he was scared. You noticed the way his expression shifted, quickly pulling him for a short kiss with your eyes firm on him. There, he was assured, a short nod as a signal.Â
âAlright, relax for me okay? Weâll take it slow.âÂ
Sunghoon started slow. Only pushing his tip in and out, so that you can still feel good. Then, he started to insert himself inside you, slow and careful while you could only take hasty breaths, holding it every time you felt yourself getting stretched.Â
âYouâre so fucking tight,â Sunghoon whispered. âSo small and tight, you really waited for me huh?â
âHoon ââ
âItâs okay baby, I can move if you want me to,â Sunghoon assured.Â
You tried to adjust to his size, youâre too full and his dickâs fully sheathed inside you, but it feels good, you wanted more of him. You tried to move, bucking your hips upwards to test the waters, making Sunghoon glance at you.Â
âYou wanted it baby?â he asked, before spreading your legs wider, wrapping it around his waist as he hovered over you.Â
âYou can move now Hoon,â you said.Â
Sunghoon moved for a bit, carefully checking on you in case you might get hurt. But you quickly nodded, he pulled his dick out of your pussy, eyes surprised as the blood smeared all over the condom. Itâs normal. He thought, but it still made him worried.Â
âI think I tore you,â he mumbled to you.
âI donât care,â you replied. âFuck, just put it in Hoon.âÂ
With that, Sunghoon chuckles darkly. âImpatient already?â
Without a warning, Sunghoon pushes himself inside you, making you heave out a moan. A mouthful of curses leaving his lips as he started to thrust himself inside you. A steady pace thatâs not rough enough for you but will leave you crying out of pleasure. He continued doing so, until he fastened his pace, too lost in the pleasure of his cock ramming your walls. Sunghoon could only utterly groan as your pussy continued sucking him in.Â
âOnly for me ââ Sunghoon moans. âSo tight for me, thereâs my good girl.â
âHoon ââÂ
âWant me to go faster? Want to take all of me?â
âPlease â ugh, faster please.â
Sunghoon answers your pleas, grabbing your waist, lifting your stomach area, and in a second, he pulls his cock slowly and slams it inside you harshly, making you moan loudly as the pleasure was too much for you. Hands tightly gripping the sheets as your toes started to curl. Only wanton moans and Sunghoonâs names would leave out of your lips, calling his name like a mantra as his dick keeps on abusing your hole, reaching to the deepest part, feeling how his tip rubs a sensitive spot.Â
âHoon, want you ââ you called out, stretching your hands which Sunghoon eagerly accepted. Both hands intertwined, placed both either on the sides of your head as Sunghoon continued to thrust inside you.Â
Sunghoon locks his lips on you once again. A feverish makeout, making everything hot yet intimate as both your bodies were glued together. Skin to skin, not minding the warm temperature the room exceeds and how sticky both you are with your sweats. All that matters was how he kisses your lips like itâs his last meal on Earth, savoring the taste of it while his cock underneath fastens its pace.
âYouâre so beautiful, all mine right?â he growled on your lips, making a short thrust which left you gasping. He can feel it, your pussy tightening, almost wanting for him to not leave, he continues to thrust in such pace as he watches your face distorting in an unreadable expression.
âCome on, say it love,â he commanded, giving you another thrust so hard that you choke under your breath.Â
âAll y-yours! Fuck ââ you cried, everything is too overwhelming for you. But Sunghoon was relaxed as he continued abusing your pussy.Â
âSo good for me,â Sunghoon kisses your temples.Â
You could only close your eyes, too shut that it hurts. Concealing every cry as your legs started to shake, stomach coiling, and unable to control your breathing.Â
âHoon ââ
âGonna come now love?â you heard Sunghoon asked, and your choked moan was the only thing you could say.Â
âLetâs come together, hold it for me can you?â Sunghoon fastened his pace, leaving you crying out of pleasure. He can feel everything tightening, his dick twitching indicating that heâs also near. It didnât help that youâre sucking him hard. Everything just feels good for both of you, but Sunghoon wanted for it not to end. He wanted to linger more, to touch you more until he memorized everything about you.Â
âFuck ââ Sunghoon was almost shaking, his grip on your hand tighten as he glances at you one last time, he leans forward sealing you to a kiss so soft that it completely contrasts how the rough thrusts that he gives.Â
âGo on, come,â he whispered to you, thrusting sharply that you could only moan as your wave of orgasm came rushing inside you. Your legs shake violently as you let out soft breathing and whimpers. You weren't able to sink in how Sunghoon groaned at the same time as you, his thrust becoming sloppy as he came inside the condom. He thrusted a few times before pulling out, you could only whine because of the loss, not being able to process as Sunghoon lay down beside you.Â
Sunghoon quickly wraps his arms around you, pulling you a hug which only makes you drowsy. You can feel his skin against you, his warm touch that felt more nothing but a comfort to you.
âDoes it hurt?â he asked, breaking the silence between the two of you.Â
âIt does,â you answered. Now that the high has left you, you can feel your cunt aching due to the sudden penetration. It did feel good but you didnât expect for it to still ache afterwards.Â
âIâll run a bath for us, donât sleep on me yet,â he suggested.Â
âBut Iâm sleepy,â you mumbled. âCan we just stay like this?â
âLetâs clean each other first, come on,â he pulled himself away from you, you could only watch as he sat on the bed. Pulling the soiled condom, seeing it all bloodied, Sunghoonâs lips turned into a thin line before tying it and covering it with tissue. He throws it in the trash bin before walking towards his bedroomâs bathroom.Â
A few minutes later, he returned to grab you, carrying you bridal style which you didnât mind, too tired to think about. The bathtub was only halfway full but Sunghoon quickly dips both of you inside. Your back resting against his back as you could only hum, relaxing into the warm water.Â
âYou okay?â he asked, his arms possessively wrapping around you.Â
âIâm tired,â you mumbled. âI want to sleep.â
You hear Sunghoon chuckle, ânever thought you'd be the type to get tired after one round.â
âI didnât know itâll be this tiring,â you mumbled. âOr maybe I was also tired from packing my things.â
âWhich wasnât necessary,â he kisses your temples. âBecause youâre still staying here with me.âÂ
You only hum at his sentence, closing your eyes as you rested your head on his shoulder.Â
âJust rest for me okay? Iâll take care of you.âÂ
âAlright.âÂ
âI love you,â Sunghoon stated, a loving kiss planted on your head.Â
âI love you too.â
-
Last night felt like a dream.Â
You opened your eyes to see yourself in a familiar room. Its silence comforts you in an indescribable way. Seeing how the sunlight sweeps through its curtains, indicates that youâve slept past your usual wake time â a rare thing for you to happen. You sat up from the bed, noticing that the sheets are different and so are your clothes. A large shirt that almost pooled your thighs along with some boxer shorts in the shades of blue, hitting you immediately with reality.Â
Last night felt like a dream but you remember every detail of it vividly. You could only hug your knees as the sudden shame came rushing to you. Cheeks are heating up as you can still feel sore down there. Never expect that everything will lead to you losing your virginity to Sunghoon.Â
You can feel your heart beating, you remember every word said last night. The arguments, and promises, the way Sunghoon looked at you â everything. Everything was real yet it felt surreal. Thatâs when you glance to your left and see it empty. Sunghoonâs not here, and the thought of Sunghoon leaving you shadowed over your mind.Â
Quickly, you jumped out of the bed. Light footsteps open the door of his room, and as you skirt outside, you can hear the faint sound of cooking in the kitchen â thatâs when you felt relief.Â
Slowly, you entered the kitchen to see Sunghoon cooking what you concluded were pancakes. He places the last batch on a plate before turning off the stove, turning around only to be surprised to see you standing there.
Silence devoured both of you. Not knowing what to say at all. After all the fiasco that you two had, some issues that needed to be solved, and of course, last nightâs intimacy, everything suddenly felt awkward for both of you.Â
âGood morning,â Sunghoon breaks the ice first. âYouâre awake now, letâs have some breakfast.â
âI thought you left,â you blurted out, immediately sinking in that you shouldnât have said that.Â
You saw the way Sunghoon's forehead creased, confused. âLeft? Why would I leave, I stay here.âÂ
âYou stay here?â you asked.Â
Sunghoon only quips a small smile, âI stayed here, waiting for youâŠhoping that youâll come home.âÂ
âOh.â you only look away, embarrassed at the thought, and yet, a part of you was surprised by what you heard.Â
Sunghoon really meant what he said, and the thought that he waited for you to come home instead of going after you â he gave you time to think and waited for you to return, while at the same time, it gave him time to navigate his feelings for you. Heâs right. It wasnât too late for everything.Â
Sunghoon places down the plate on the dining table. While you only sat on the chair, watching Sunghoon set up the table for you. He offers the plate for you as he sits beside you. From there, you two sat in silence, eating the perfectly-cooked pancakes.Â
Weird. You thought as you took small bites on the food. Everything feels at ease, but you know that thereâs still many issues that two have to address. Last night was just a swirl of each otherâs emotions, although a proof of each otherâs promises, you still donât know what to do with your situation with Sunghoon.Â
âWhat â what happened last night?â you asked. Sunghoon chokes on his food, startling you. âI mean, during the bath ââ
âOh, you fell asleep halfway, nothing happened after, I slept eventually,â Sunghoon explained.
âAlright,â you mumbled, clearing your throat. As you looked at your unfinished plate, you wondered about the two of you, almost immediately things wonât be easily like the way it was.Â
âHoon,â you whispered, trying to carefully set the atmosphere.Â
âIs there something wrong?â he asked, almost concerned.Â
âI just â I donât know what to do with us,â you confessed, almost bitterly smiling. âAll my life, I always knew what to do, I had a clear path of everything, dragging you in it which you obviously didnât want to. But now that we have different goals, what about us?â
Sunghoon quietly looks at you. His soft expression completely contrasts the worried look on your face. Gently, he brushes the stray hair that covers your face, with his hand on the back of your neck, Sunghoon remains quiet as a smile forms on his face.Â
âIâm not leaving you y/n, donât worry about us. Letâs just support each other alright? I know itâll be hectic for each of us because weâre going different place, but this place,â Sunghoonâs eyes wandered around the house. âThis is going to be our home. Weâll make it a home for us.âÂ
âWhat about our engagement? Itâs over now,â you asked, worried.Â
âLetâs get engaged when weâre ready, okay? Not because our parents set us up, I want our relationship to be genuine and real. I still have to prove my love for you.â
You only chuckle. âYou already did.â
âItâs not enough, one night doesnât change anything.âÂ
You only nod at his words. âThank you Sunghoon, for giving me another chance.âÂ
âI should be the one whoâs thankful to you, you never gave up on me even when I treat you badly,â he insisted, making you laugh.Â
âItâs my fault too, I shouldnât have pushed you to my dreams too much.â you rebutted. âBut Iâm here now, Iâll support you in your dream.âÂ
âThatâs all I need to hear,â Sunghoon stated.
Nodding at his words, Sunghoon pulls you for a hug, his arms instinctively lifting you from your seat, pulling you to his lap to hold you even more tightly. You rest your head on his shoulder as your arms swing around his neck.Â
Silence hovered the dining area. You two remained there, never letting go of each other. The tranquility gives you two peace, feeling nothing but each otherâs warmth as Sunghoon traces circle around your back, while you rest idly on him. It was comforting and assuring, and your heart swells in joy because your future with Sunghoon was never lost to you.Â
-
Epilogue.
As you open the door of your house, you immediately switch the lights on, revealing its comforting silence that only made you smile. The smell of lavender and eucalyptus filled the room, the relaxing scent coming from the air diffuser you and Sunghoon bought a few months ago, automatically reminds you of your lover.
âHoon, Iâm home!â you shouted, removing your sneakers when you heard the door of your shared room (formerly Sunghoonâs room) open. Sunghoon approaches you with a smile, gently cupping your cheeks to seal a kiss.Â
âWelcome home,â he greets, making you smile.Â
âWhatâs the occasion? Youâre all dressed-up, or have you just got home from your class?â A year wasnât that long, but a lot of things have changed between you and Sunghoon.Â
Sunghoon was given another chance from Decelis to finish his degree in medbio, stating that itâll be a waste for him to not continue it. Although the two of you knew that the degree is deemed useless, Sunghoon let it be, a deal that he had with his parents for him to continue playing in the band.Â
After graduation, you agreed to Sunghoon to take a few months before entering medical school. Although youâre already on board to attend Decelis Medical School, you decided to take time to spend with the people you love because you know how hectic med school will be.Â
Arcanum continued performing. After graduation, they became an independent band. Slowly, their popularity is starting to rise. Getting invited to events, university festivals, and of course, they still do their gig in The Rabbit Hole, which became more popular and crowded than ever. You, on the other hand, always manage time to watch their performance along with the other band membersâ girlfriends â who you eventually became friends with.Â
âIâm taking you out for dinner,â Sunghoon simply replied, grabbing your bag as he scurried his way back to your bedroom, which you only followed.Â
âWhy? Whatâs the special occasion?â you asked, laughing.Â
âNothing, just want to take my girl out, is that so bad?â Sunghoon grins, and your gleaming eyes can see how excited he is, like heâs preparing for something.
You only hum, as you proceed to your shared closet. âAlright, let me just freshen up for a bit and change.â
You two arrived at the restaurant not an hour later. The receptionist guided you to your reservation which surprised you because Sunghoon had reserved a private room for the two of you.Â
âThis is,â you held your breath as you looked at the room. Nostalgia hits you because Sunghoon had brought you to the place where you two were formally engaged by your family.Â
âYou still remember it?â he asked, smiling.Â
âOf course,â you could only mumble. âI was nervous. We were friends who suddenly became fiances at eighteen, it was a sudden turn.âÂ
âI was nervous too, but I was in relief because my family chose you,â Sunghoon confesses. âAlthough we went through a rough path, Iâm glad we were able to overcome it.âÂ
You only smiled back at him. âSo am I.âÂ
Food arrived minutes later, along with some white wine of Sunghoonâs choice. The two of you spent the remaining time reminiscing, talking mostly about your childhood days, especially the embarrassing moments that had you two laughing loudly.Â
âI have some news for you,â Sunghoon blurted out, completely changing the topic between the two of you.Â
âWhat is it?â you asked, taking small sips from your glass.Â
âDaydream Records called yesterday,â Sunghoon started, his smile grew wider, eyes almost turning into a curve. âTheyâre interested in having us in their label, itâs a five-year contract and they will manage everything for us â can you believe it!?â
âOh my god ââ words got stuck in your throat. Immediately, you stood up from your seat, approaching Sunghoon who only waited for you to fall into his arms. Pulling you on his lap as you embraced him tightly. âHoon, oh my god â this is good news! You guys will become famous!âÂ
âBecoming famous is still far for us, but no more hassle schedules, and Heeseungâs girl doesnât need to partake in managing us, weâll have our own manager, our own studio â everything!â Sunghoon excitedly shared, making you smile wider.Â
âThatâs great love, Iâm so, so proud of you and Arcanum,â you only said, leaning on him to give him a deep kiss on the lips which he only reciprocated.Â
âWeâll be busy this year, youâre going to attend Decelis in two months, while once we sign our contracts, weâll be gearing up to release our debut single.â Sunghoon explained. âWe might always come home to an empty house now.â
âAre you afraid?â you asked worriedly.
âOf course not, I have faith in both of us, but y/n,â he settles you on the chair in front of him. Hands holding you as he gives you an assuring smile. âWe might not see each other from time to time because weâre too busy, but I want to let you know that I will always support you no matter what.â
Before you could say anything, Sunghoon grabs something from his coatâs inner pocket, your eyes widening at the velvet box that heâs holding.Â
âHoon,â you whispered.
âWe were tied to be married when we were young, and we promised that weâll only get married when weâre ready, and though one year has passed and a lot of things have changed, we still have a long way to go, for us.â Sunghoon stated.
You remained quiet, only staring at him who gently cups your face.Â
âI want you to think of me whenever you see this ring,â he said as he proceeded to open the box. Your eyes widened at the pair of rings â both have subtle engraved diamonds, with the other one thinner with a much more intricate design.Â
âAnd Iâll think of you whenever I see the ring too,â Sunghoon added. âItâs a promise ring. A promise for us that weâll be with each other no matter what. Itâll be our strength especially during hard times.â
Tears started flowing from your eyes, out of happiness, you let out a choked laugh as you wiped your tears away â bumping into Sunghoon's hands who faltered a laugh as he gently wiped the tears away.Â
âHoon, I donât know what to sayâŠI love it â gosh, I love you so, so much, you donât know how happy this makes me,â you could only say, almost stumbling to your words.
Sunghoon didnât say a word. He removes the ring and gently puts it in your ring finger, fitting perfectly like it was meant for you. You copied his action, grabbing the other band and placing it in his ring finger.Â
âPromise me that youâll be there for me,â Sunghoon stated.Â
âOf course, Iâll be there for you, just like youâll be with me,â you only smiled. âForever.âÂ
Sunghoon grabs your cheeks once again, planting a kiss on your lips which you delicately replied, sealing the promise you two have. Breaking the kiss, Sunghoon only stared at you, eyes brightening as his smile became wider.Â
âForever.âÂ

Discworld is an interesting beast in the age of ACAB. Like, the city watch books are a story about police and the way in which a good police force can help and protect people. Which would make it copoganda. And I'm not going to say that the City Watch books are completely free of copoganda, but they also do something interesting that fairly few stories about heroic police officers do, and I think it has a lot to do with Samuel Vimes. A lot of copoganda stories like, say, Brooklyn 99, are perfectly capable of portraying cops as cruel, bigoted, and greedy, but our central cast of characters are portrayed as good people who want to help their communities. The result is that the bad cops are portrayed as an aberration, while most cops can be assumed to be good people doing a tough job because they want to help protect people from the nebulous evil forces of "Crime". The police are considered to be naturally heroic. Pratchett does something very interesting, which is provide us with Vimes' perspective, and present us with an Unnaturally heroic police force. In Ahnk-Morpork, the natural state of the watch is a gang with extra paperwork. It's the place for people who, at best, just want a steady paycheck and at worst want an excuse to hit people with a truncheon. Rather than be an army defending people from the forces of Crime, the Watch is described as a sort of sleight-of-hand, big burly watchmen in shiny uniforms don't stand around in-case a Crime happens in their vicinity, they stand around to remind people that The Law exists and has teeth. The Watchmen are people, when danger rears it's head, their instinct is to hide and get out of the way. When faced with authority, their instinct is to bow to it out of fear of what it might do to them if they don't. Carrot is a genuine Hero, but his natural heroism is presented as an aberration. Normal Cops don't act like Carrot does. The fact that the Watch ends up acting like a Heroic Police Force is largely due to the leadership of Sam Vimes, but Vimes himself is a microcosm of the Watch. The base state of Sam Vimes would be an alchoholic bully of an officer, one who beats people until they confess to anything because that makes his job easier. Vimes The Hero is a homunculous, an artificial being created by Sam Vimes fighting back all those instincts and FORCING himself to behave as his conscience dictates. Vimes doesn't take bribes or let his officers do the same because, damnit, that sort of thing shouldn't happen, even if doing so would make things a lot easier. Vimes doesn't run towards sounds of screaming because he WANTS to, he forces himself to do so because somebody needs to. It's best summed up in Thud âQuis custodiet ipsos custodes? Your Grace.â âI know that one,â said Vimes. âWho watches the watchmen? Me, Mr. Pessimal.â âAh, but who watches you, Your Grace?â said the inspector with a brief little smile. âI do that, too. All the time,â said Vimes. âBelieve me.â
In the hands of another writer, or another series, this exchange would be weirdly dismissive. To whom should the police be accountable to? Themselves, shut up and trust us. But from Vimes, it's a different story. Vimes DOES constantly watch himself, and he doesn't trust that bastard, he's known him his entire life. The Heroic Police are not a natural state, they're an ideal, and ahnk-morpork only gets anywhere close. Vimes is constantly struggling against his own instincts to take shortcuts, to let things slide, but he forces himself to live up to that ideal and the Watch follows his example. Discworld doesn't propose any solutions to the problems with policing in the real world. We don't have a Sam Vimes to run the NYPD and force them to behave. We don't have a Carrot Ironfounderson. But it's at least a story about detectives and police that I can read without feeling like I'm being sold propaganda about the Thin Blue Line.

Ëàšà§âïœĄđË darry rings - are limited to one per lifetime, emphasizing that love should be exclusive and irreplaceable. true love verification ensures each customer can only buy one ring.
includes: itoshi sae! x reader. 0.9k wc. fluff hehe
you are unable to believe the outrageous actions of your boyfriend. this time, his doings were diabolical to the point of no return. âget out!â
you push itoshi sae out the door in a fit of frustration. his sigh is so loud, it feels like itâs echoing in your head, only making your irritation worse.
âthis is my bedroom,â he deadpans, as if stating the obvious will reverse his sudden eviction. it doesnât work. youâre already diving into the duvets with a determined scowl.
âwhat are you even doing?â he asks, his tone tipping into annoyance. he narrows his eyes when you march a little closer and throw his pillow into his arms.
âyouâre sleeping on the couch,â you declare, voice firm, matching his now sour expression. âand actually, that pillow is way too nice. hand it back.â
he blinks, baffled, before the "too nice" pillow is snatched away and replaced with a sad, flat one that looks like itâs seen better days.
sae stares at the new pillow and then at you. this is so absurd, so far removed from the usual luxurious facade of his life, that the ever-composed itoshi sae actually laughs.
âyouâre forgetting something,â he says suddenly, catching your wrist and pulling you closer.
âsae! let go!â you yelp, squirming in his grasp.
âare you seriously this upset over that cheap ring?â his tone is somewhere between exasperation and amusement, as if he should've expected such a reaction.
âit doesnât matter if it was cheap; it was mine!â you hit his chest with a fist, glaring up at him. âand you hid it!â
âbecause i got you a better one,â he says, his eyebrows raising slightly, as if that explains everything.
âwell, you couldâve just said that!â you huff, shoving his arm. âi was freaking out, thinking i lost it!â
"why do you even like that ring so much?" sae asks, pinching the bridge of his nose like heâs debating whether this argument is even worth his energy.
"because you gave it to me in high school!" you snap back, arms crossing dramatically. "i've spent more time with that ring than with you!"
he freezes, the weight of your words sinking in. the usual sharpness in his expression softens, and for a moment, he just looks at youâreally looks at you. his gaze lingers on you, quiet and heavy with a mixture of guilt and something unspoken.
it's true. he knows it. he knows just how many times heâs failed to be present for you, how many moments heâs missed, how many nights youâve spent waiting for him to come backâboth physically and emotionally. each time, each goodbye felt like he was leaving behind another piece of you. your glassy eyes were all he would remember during those long flights.
but that's exactly why he's been wanting to do this for a while. because, although he might not make it obvious, itoshi sae is more attentive than you think.
he reaches into his pocket. the movement catches your attention, and when he pulls out a small velvet box, your breath hitches.
âis that...â you begin to question, even though the answer is obvious.
he opens the box, revealing a sleek, elegant darry ring. it gleams under the soft light of the bedroomâintricate, expensive, but graceful instead of loud, the kind of thing only sae could choose.
âi didnât hide your ring to be an ass,â he says, a rare gentleness lacing his tone. his firm hand captures yours and slides the perfectly fitted ring on your designated finger.
"i wanted you to have something better," he brings your jeweled hand to his lips, pressing a warm kiss. "something worthy of you."
"i wanted to sign my name to you."
you blink, your chest tightening, and before you know it, you're rushing forward to throw your arms around him in an impulsive, tight hug.
"you're an idiot, sae!" you voice, sound coming out teary-eyed.
a moment passes without either of you saying anything. he just holds you tighter, as if making up for every moment he couldnât be there. then, he chuckles softly, a low, soft sound that fills the space between you.
you pull back just enough to frown up at him, your hands resting on his chest. "you're laughing?!"
sae, with that trademark smirk, tilts his head slightly. "do you like it?" his voice teasing but with that edge of sincerity you know so well.
you scoff, still holding on to his shirt, a little stunned. "are you seriously asking me that right now?" you mumble, though your heart is already swelling.
"i love it," you finally smile, leaning up to kiss him on the cheek. "i love it, sae."
he leans forward, the tug of his smile remaining. "yeah?" he inches closer, grabbing you, leaving no room for escape. "how much?"
"so much.." you manage to whisper against his lips before he fully dives in for a kiss.
his lips move gently against yours, tasting the words you just spoke, savoring your happiness. itâs soft and tender, and deliberately slow, as he prefers.
when he finally pulls back, you're left breathless, your heart pounding in your chest. you glance up at him, suddenly shy, feeling a soft blush creeping on you.
"you're still sleeping on the couch," you point and smile, face full of mischief.
sae shrugs, his expression slipping into one of playful indifference. âfine. but youâre joining me.â
before you can even protest, he scoops you up effortlessly, your squeals of protest only providing him amusement as he holds you securely in his arms.
"okay, okay! you can sleep on the bed!"

pairing: jack abbot x f!reader word count: 1.8k notes: I saw this gif of Shawn from Chicago PD i think? and it made me think of Jack giving a lecture and then i kinda spiraled out idk!!!
You slip away mid-shift, all your patients stable, waiting on results or beds upstairs. You catch Danaâs eye as you peel off your gloves.
âRunning upstairs for a secâpage me if anything changes.â
Dana arches a brow, glancing at her watch. âHow convenient. A certain silver fox is about halfway through his presentation, if my sources are correct.â
You raise a brow. âIâm just going to support my colleagues. Totally normal.â
âSure,â she says, deadpan. âTotally normal to reapply lip gloss before a lecture.â
You roll your eyes and make your escape.
You duck into the back of the auditorium, quiet as you can, but your entrance still catches Jackâs eye. He doesnât miss a beat in his sentence, just tips the corner of his mouth up in a smile before continuing. You melt into a seat, pretending not to notice.
Jack and Samira were asked to give a presentation on their banana pants pigtail catheter procedure from the PittFest MCI, after it had been published by The Lancet.
The talk wraps. The crowd filters out. You linger.
Jack steps down from the podium, spotting you. âDidnât realize they were letting the riff raff in these days.â
You raise a brow. âWeâre a teaching hospital, are we not, Dr. Abbot?â
Before he can reply, Samira swoops in and wraps you in a quick hug. âYou made it! Youâre coming out tonight, right? Jackâll give you the details.â She says over her shoulder as she follows someone out the door.
Jack watches her go, then looks back at you. âSo⊠are we?â
You blink. âAre we what?â
âBeing honored with your presence tonight.â
You turn toward the exit. âIâm considering it.â
âYou do realize youâre walking the opposite way from the ED.â
âWhat, a girl canât grab a coffee mid-shift?â
He follows you to the cafeteria, orders a black coffee, pays for both without asking.
âYou always this generous?â you tease.
âOnly with people who show up to my lectures uninvited.â
You shake your head and sip your drink, and he falls into step beside you. âCan I walk you back to the Pit?â
âYou say that like itâs a romantic stroll and not a direct line to getting roped into seeing patients on your day off.â
He laughs. âYou still didnât answer me.â
âIâm walking,â you say innocently.
âNot that question.â
âOh,â you say, glancing over. âYeah. If the next few hours donât implode, Iâll come.â
âCarefulâdonât jinx it. And first roundâs on me.â
You grin. âShouldnât we be buying for you, Dr. Published?â
He shrugs. âNot my first publication. Still not sure why everyoneâs acting like I cured cancer.â
Robby suddenly appears beside you. âYou done monopolizing my best resident, Dr. Abbot?â
You take that as your cue. âBack to it,â you say quickly, slipping away.
As you walk off, you hear Jack murmur, âTold you we need ten more like her.â
âYou donât need ten,â Robby replies dryly. âOneâs already got you tied in knots.â
--
The barâs dimly lit, a little too loud, crowded with scrubs and badge lanyards. Samiraâs already holding court in a booth, waving wildly when she spots you walking in.
Jackâs at the bar, two beers in hand, scanning the crowd. His shoulders drop when he sees you.
âTold you Iâd show,â you say, sliding up beside him.
âYou cut it close,â he says, handing you one of the beers. âWas about to assume I got stood up.â
You raise a brow. âThat why you were brooding into your IPA like a sad Hemingway character?â
He huffs a laugh. âOnly a little.â
You clink glasses. âTo your big debut.â
He groans. âIt wasnât a debut. Iâve done talks before.â
âYeah,â you say, sipping. âBut this one had fans in the audience.â
He glances down at his beer, then at you. âJust one.â
You feel that zing of heat at his words and have to look away for a secondâtoo much eye contact and you might combust.
Across the room, Danaâs already watching like sheâs got popcorn in hand. Robby leans over and says something to her, and she nods in the most obvious way possible.
Jack notices too. âAre theyâ?â
âOh yeah. Full-on surveillance mode. Maybe we should go join the group, get them to stop gossiping behind our backs.â
âKnowing them, theyâll start gossiping to our faces,â he jokes as he follows you to the booth.
Conversation flows from how excited they are with being done with revisions and how theyâre being invited to a couple conferences to give the same spiel to the craziness of the emergency department and their personal lives.
At one point, your knee bumps his under the table and he doesnât move away.
After a beat, he murmurs, âYou always this bold off shift?â
You tilt your head. âYou always this soft-spoken after a beer?â
He chuckles. âMaybe.â
You smile, leaning in just enough to keep the banter between you and him. âI like it. The mysterious gruff thing works on the floor, but this? This is nice.â
He looks at you for a long momentâeyes soft, mouth curved like heâs fighting the instinct to say something he shouldn't.
Then: âYouâre troubleâ as his hand moves softly to your knee, hidden from the group by the table.Â
You grin.Â
Samira calls your name across the table, beckoning you over to take a photo. You stand reluctantly, then pause and turn back to Jack.
âYou coming?â
He hesitates, then shakes his head. âIâm good here. Iâll hold your seat.â
You lean in, just close enough to tease, your voice low. âTry not to miss me too much.â
He watches you go, fingers still resting on the spot where her knee had been. He tells himself to get a grip, but his smile betrays him.
As you walk away, you hear Robby slide into the seat next to Jack and say, loud enough for you to catch it: âSo⊠that seems like a new development?â
Jack mutters something you canât hearâbut you see the smile he doesnât bother to hide.
The groupâs thinned out. Laughterâs softened. Samiraâs doing tequila shots with two interns and Danaâs deep in animated gossip with Robby at the end of the booth.
You and Jack are side by side, quiet again.
Heâs got his hand back around your knee rubbing small thoughtless circles.
Jack nurses whatâs probably his third beer, but it hasnât touched him much. Heâs too grounded. Steady.
âYou okay?â you ask, voice low.
He glances at you, brow raised. âWhy wouldnât I be?â
âYouâve just beenâŠâ you search for the word, âthoughtful.â
He smiles faintly. âGuess Iâm not used to being the center of attention.â
âYou handled it fine. Better than fine.â
He looks at you for a long moment.
âThis thing with you⊠itâs not just in my head, is it?â
You blink. Heart stutters. âNo,â you say. âItâs not.â
He nods once, like he needed the confirmation, like heâd been carrying that uncertainty all night.
âIâm not good at this,â he admits.
You reach for his hand under the table, wrap your fingers around his. He doesnât flinch. Just holds on.
âYouâre doing okay so far,â you say quietly.
And for a moment, everything elseâthe noise, the bar, the chaos of the hospital worldâfades.
--
Youâre halfway through rounds when you catch sight of him at the nursesâ stationâcoffee in hand, hair still damp from the shower, reading through a chart.
He looks up. Sees you. Smiles. Itâs different than before. Softer. Quieter. Like a secret just the two of you share.
Dana clocks it immediately.
âWhat the hell happened last night?â she hisses, falling into step beside you as you walk toward the trauma bay.
âNothing,â you say too fast.
She gives you a look.
âNothing⊠overt,â you amend.
Behind you, Jack appears. âMorning,â he says, voice low but warm.
âItâs 3:47 in the afternoon,â you reply, trying very hard to sound normal.
He shrugs âItâs morning for meâ while he hands you a cup of coffee and keeps walking. Dana stares after him.
You sip. Itâs exactly how you take it.
She turns to you, eyes wide. âOkay, no. That is not normal behavior.â
You hid your smile behind the cup.
--
The ER is quiet. It's after 3 a.m.âthat liminal, weightless hour when the world feels like it belongs only to the people still awake. The lights are dimmed. Somewhere down the hall, a monitor beepsâsteady, slow.
Youâre at the counter, finishing notes on a patient youâre about to discharge, when Jack walks by, flipping through a chart. His scrubs are rumpled. He stifles a yawn.
âYouâre still here?â he asks softly.
You glance up. âWorking a double. Iâm actually considering switching to nightsâcovering some shifts for Ellis to see how it feels.â You ramble a little, nerves showing.
He leans against the counter beside you, arms folded, close enough that your elbows nearly touch. For a moment, neither of you speaks. Just the quiet hum of fluorescent lights, the hush of a sleeping hospital.
âHm. What can I do to help tip the scales?â he says at last. âYouâre the best doctor I know. Weâd be lucky to have you on nights.â He pauses, then adds with a grin, âOh, fuckâdoes Robby know youâre leaving him?â
You chuckle. âOf course. Heâs not thrilled, but he wants me to do whatâs right for me. The cases are different overnight. Iâve always been a night owl. Still figuring it out.â
âIâm always here if you want a sounding board.â
âThanks,â you say, smilingâthen shifting gears. âHave you eaten anything? Dana said she stashed some thank-you cookies earlier.â
âIâll never say no to a 3 a.m. dessert. Lead the way.â
You end up side by side on the doctorsâ lounge couch, coffee in hand, both of you still bone-tired but not ready to leave. Thereâs a comfort in the quiet.
After a while, he says, âYou should go home.â
You glance at him. âI could say the same to you.â
He doesnât laugh. Doesnât deflect. Just looks at you.
âTruth is,â he says quietly, âIâve been finding reasons not to leave.â
You straighten a little, watching him.
âNot the hospital,â he adds. âJust⊠you. Every time weâre together, I almost go with you. And I keep trying not to. Because we work together. Because you⊠you get it.â
You donât breathe for a second.
âJackâŠâ
He shakes his head, like heâs already regretting saying itâbut then: âYou make it hard. To keep the distance.â
Your heart kicks. Loud. Certain.
You turn toward him fully. âThen maybe stop trying.â
He doesnât moveâbut something shifts in his expression. Softens. Opens.
You lean in.
He exhales. âThis isnât smart.â
âIâm not asking for smart.â
He leans in slowly, like heâs waiting for you to change your mind.
You donât.
And when his lips finally meet yours, itâs gentleâalmost reverent. A sigh of a kiss. Like something long-held and long-denied.
When you part, foreheads pressed together, the silence between you feels full.
Thereâs nothing to say.

Part Two of Simon Riley meeting a single mom at the park and going "that one, I want that one."
As much as Simon feels the persistent gnaw of want, he canât pinpoint exactly why itâs there, and as the days since he met you drag on, he canât figure out which is more frustrating â the wanting itself, or the fact that the reason behind it keeps eluding him.
Maybe itâs some biological impulse, thatâs one thing he considers. Maybe itâs just a primal impulse drudged up by the sight of your belly and the helpless fear heâd heard in your voice that day. His rotten genes kicking around inside him, whispering to him that they want out.
Or it could be that you look like exactly the type he tends to go for when he allows himself the little indulgence of a pretty womanâs company. Present state aside, that is.
Regardless, he finds himself walking by the park nearly every day, scanning the area just in case he sees you or your little boy there again. He doubts he'd approach you again even if he did cross your path a second time, but even so, his aimless walks don't seem quite so aimless anymore.
It's not until one day, a few weeks after that first time, that he sees your somehow familiar form standing by one of the picnic tables. He'd thought you looked fit to burst the first time he saw you, but now you were somehow bigger still. Even from a distance, he can make out the sweat on your face, the wet bits of hair sticking to your forehead that show your overexertion, as if your rundown expression doesn't give it away.
You look absolutely miserable, and Simon pushes down whatever odd little instinct it is that makes him think about how much he'd like to kiss it all better.
Close by, safe on the ground this time, is your son, Charlie. He darts around the grass by the table while you unload a bag with snacks and drinks, your eyes firmly trained on him while you do it.
Simon walks slowly, trying to decide if it would be better to turn and go back the other way or to walk by as if he doesn't notice you -- he shouldn't notice you. If he did recognize you, it should only be in passing, a brief flicker of recognition that quickly passes, not ... whatever this is.
A small part of him, one that he'd never let see the light of day, considers the idea of approaching you.
The choice is taken away from him when Charlie spots him while doing spins in the grass. The little boy lets out a squeal, pointing directly at him, and begins bounding over.
"Charlie, for the love of --"
Then you look up and see him, and he can't be sure from the distance, but he thinks he sees the flicker of a smile.
He notices how you let yourself take your time a bit as you amble towards him, a small rush of pride going through him that you're not panicking over your child's safety as he runs in his direction. Charlie reaches him first, and he has to tilt his head nearly to his shoulders to look up at him.
"You were on the slide before."
"I was."
"You're too big for the slide."
"Wasn't there to slide."
By that point, you'd manage to waddle your way over, your hand going to rest on Charlie's shoulder as you look to Simon. You greet him, a quick "Hi," then look back down to your son.
"Let's not bother strangers, ok? Come on, we have a picnic."
"He's not a stranger," Charlie argues. "He was on the slide."
If Simon wasn't trying to keep his eyes off the drop of sweat that was trailing down by your collarbone, he would have taken a moment to properly appreciate the simplicity of the argument.
"Sorry," you say softly, glancing up at Simon again. "He's a friendly little thing."
"Quite all right."
"You want juice?"
He can't help but let out a chuckle at the kid's question -- he's never been much of a talker, and it seems like you might not be much of one either, but someone's putting in some effort.
"Mum made crackers too," Charlie adds. "You want some crackers?"
"I'm sure this man has more important things to do than have crackers and juice with us, don't you think?" you say.
But he doesn't. At this moment, he feels like he's never had anything more important to do.
There are a few more precocious little invites, along with some puppy dog eyes, and before he knows it, Simon is being led through a stretch of grass to a picnic table with you and your son.
The conversation is ... not great, honestly. You're either shy or guarded, maybe both, and Charlie isn't quite old enough to spark any kind of intelligent discussion. But he does enjoy the juice box the boy insists he takes, and he likes the strange warmth that spreads through his chest at the sight of you across from him at the table even more.
"Come watch me swing," Charlie demands after a bit. You shrug, apparently content with letting the child run the show at this point, and Simon lets out another deep chuckle, standing and hesitantly following you both to the swingset.
"Thanks for humoring him," you tell him quietly as you push your son on the swing.
"Not at all," he replies. "He's ..."
He trails off, not sure what he was even planning on saying. Sweet? Funny? They don't feel like words he'd use, but this doesn't even feel like an interaction he'd have. It's all new territory for him.
Thankfully, you don't seem miffed by his short responses, or by the silence that follows. You just stand there, one hand pushing Charlie while the other rests low on your belly, while he stands further back, watching.
And there it is again. The wanting. Brutal and undeniable.
âWhenâs the little one due?â
The question comes out low and gruff, as if it clawed its way out of his throat on his own, which it may have, because he rarely willingly engages in small talk like this.
"Couple of weeks," you answer.
Charlie breaks the next stretch of silence by instructing Simon to watch him kick his legs to swing even higher, which he does. After he gives him what he hopes sounds like a hum of approval, his eyes move back to you, watching the way your hand moves to rest on your hip, your fingers pressing towards the small of your back as if you're trying to keep yourself propped up.
"Kid seems like a bit of a handful to keep up with all by yourself," he murmurs. "Presently, anyway."
It's not his business, but you don't seem to mind because you reply again, eyes still on Charlie.
"He's been ... well, I think he's a little nervous, about the new baby," you explain. "So I've been trying to make these last few weeks of just us special."
You don't talk much, he's coming to understand that, but he doesn't either, so he knows how much can be said in the spaces between. He stays quiet for a moment, taking a pause to watch another one of Charlie's tricks.
"'Just us'?" he asks. "And what about that husband who was supposed to come to the rescue last time?"
"I lied so you'd think twice about kidnapping us."
Simon chuckles at the blunt response, and says, "Decided you're not in danger now, have you?"
"More like I've decided that if you kidnap us after we gave you juice and crackers, you're a monster and we never stood a chance anyway."
You glance up at him then, the first time you've looked at him since the party moved to the swings, and you smile. It's more playful than flirty, but it's for him, and he finds himself smiling back.
Simon doesn't do this. When he's home, he doesn't really talk to people. There's a quick exchange with a cashier or a bartender, or the occasional mutually distant transaction with a woman who wants the same quick release that he does. Some days are so bad that he'll spend more time than he cares to admit considering whether he wants to wear a mask out -- if he wants to just blend in as much as he can like he usually does, all dark clothing and hunched shoulders, or if he wants to risk attracting a bit more attention by wearing the mask since even so, it'll ensure that no one can see his face.
But here he is, for a reason that he still can't quite pinpoint, smiling at a pregnant lady in a park and watching her little boy play.
It doesn't make sense, but it doesn't feel bad either. So he doesn't stop.
It was late afternoon when Charlie first approached him, and now the sun is getting lower in the sky. You reach a hand up to pull on the chain of the swing, slowing the boy down, and tell him itâs time to go.
He whines for just a moment before obediently dragging his feet to stop the swing, standing up. Before Simon can process it, he comes up to him and wraps his arms around his legs.
âThanks for playing,â he says before running back off towards the table where youâd left your things.
He helps you gather everything, walking the empty juice boxes over to the trash can so you donât have to move any more than necessary. When youâre all ready to go, he watches you take Charlieâs hand and offer him another smile.
âSee you around,â you tell him before turning and walking off towards the sidewalk.
He tries to think of something clever to say, then he kicks himself for wanting to say something clever, and before he can get out of his own head, youâre already halfway down the sidewalk. And, he notices, you happen to be headed in the direction of his own apartment.
Something in him wants to catch up with you, to say that heâs headed the same way, which wouldnât be a lie. Itâs the same part of him that made him a good soldier â the part that sees an opportunity to go in for the kill.
But the part of him that makes him a good leader stays put. The timing isn't right, and he doesn't want to take a chance on a half-cocked impulse, especially when he still hasn't even figured out what it is that's pulling him to you.
So he walks. He goes the opposite way, away from home, away from you, deeper into town. He walks past the shops as they start closing for the night, the pubs as they get more lively. He walks until he's sure that you and Charlie made your way to wherever you were headed, and only then does he make his way back to his apartment.
It's as dull there as ever, the overhead light flickering when he turns it on and walks inside. He hears the familiar creaking of his cheap old couch as it sinks under his weight when he sits, sees the white expanse of the walls, no pictures or paintings or whatever else people put up to make a house feel warmer than this.
But tonight, it's not quite so bleak. There's the faintest taste of apple juice lingering on his tongue, a sweetness he's not accustomed to, and he can still feel a bit of warmth on his face from being in the sun so long.
He wants more of it. He still doesn't know the ins and outs of it all, but he's ready to accept that it exists. And he's ready to start strategizing on how exactly he can get it.

đŹđš đđźđđ€đąđ§' đŹđđźđđđšđ«đ§ă»l.m
âthere were two things in the world that challenged your intellectual ability one: AP US History and two: lee minho. what are you going to do when he catches you cheating, and grabs your thigh, forcing you to give him the answers too.
đ©đđąđ«đąđ§đ ă»minho x reader // đ đđ§đ«đđŹă»academic rivals to lovers, sexual tension // đ°đšđ«đđŹă»1.5k // đ°đđ«đ§đąđ§đ đŹă»thigh touching, squeezing, and kissing, very slight bruising, cheating on tests, slight language, he gets on his knees, this is lowkey freaky, no actually Minho gets on his knees and kisses your thigh.
đ/đ§ă»guys i'm kinda shy about this bc it was not supposed to be this freaky, but I had this thought like four months ago and it just kind of...unraveled đ idk how I feel about this I like the idea of it but I feel like it flows weird idk might just be a me problem plus I needed to get it out of my drafts so đ
If you really think about itâit isn't your fault that the curriculum was impossible to learn, the school board was practically begging you to cheat.
Besides, the whole testing system was pointless anyway. You couldnât accurately quantify knowledge with a few bubbled answers. And if your teacher hadnât made this test 40% of your grade, you mightâve actually been able to understand. But noâ the stress alone had made sure of that.
For a second, you naively convince yourself you actually have a chance. Then you read the first questionâand realize you're royally fucked.
It isnât just one thing; no, the universe spreads a thick layer of icing all over your 'Iâm fucked' cake, because not only is the test 100 questions of pure agony, but youâre sitting next to none other than Lee MinhoâYale's wet dream and your life long rival.
He shifts beside you, bubbling in the answers with infuriating ease. It was enragingâhow calm he was, how even though his eyes were trained on the paper in front of him, it still felt like he was making calculated moves against you.
You grind your teeth, reading and rereading the questions until you go cross-eyed. It just didn't make sense. Why were there so many dates? Who were all these people? Why couldn't you seem to remember anything? The ink on your thigh screams at you, itching to pull up your skirt and color all the correct answers.
It was stupid, completely idiotic to even consider giving in to the temptation, but you had no other choice. You couldn't fail this test. You steal a glance at Minho, making sure heâs still peacefully, obnoxiously distracted with being perfect, before sliding your skirt up to reveal the answer key you wrote last night. With a deep breath, you fill in the correct answers, stealing paranoid glances at the teacher every other question.
You're almost done. Just a few more. But thenâa tingle runs down your spine.
You could practically taste the smirk on his face the minute his gaze lands on your thighs. You stiffen, holding your breath as if that might magically make you disappear. Unfortunately, your efforts are to no avail.
Minho must have been waiting for a moment like this for yearsâa classic got'ya moment. It was perfect, practically presented to him on a silver platter. You clench your eyelids and except the worst, for him to stand up and announce to the class your humiliating defeat, to strut up to the teacher and flush your entire life away.
And yet, the moment passes by. His gaze never wavers, instead it gets heavierâneedier, fire licking up your spine. You can feel the heat of his breath fanning across your cheek as he leans inâso close, too close.
"Is that what I think it is?" That cocky little bend in his lips grows as he watches you fumble to yank the skirt back down, shooting him a nasty side-eye.
"No," you say steadilyâalmost convincing yourself.
"No?" His voice is low, laced with amusement, but there's something else there, something strained. "Then let me see."
"No." You scoff, pulling your leg away from him. He presses his tongue against his cheek, both frustrated and annoyed.
"So fuckinâ stubborn." His voice drops, and suddenly, the space between you vanishes. His fingers capture your thigh, prying them apart with a hot, deliberate pressure. Your breath hitchesâthe heat of his palm seeping into your flesh, spreading up, up, up.
You want to gasp, to smack his hand away, and scream bloody murder; but the other part of you, the other small microscopic part of you relishes in his touchâleaving you dizzy and breathless.
His hand never moves, even as he copies the answers downâhis fingers a steady pressure against your soft flesh. You hate the way your pulse betrays you, hammering against your ribs like thunder.
You twitchâjust enough for him to notice, just enough for him to squeeze hard. You fight not to gasp, your stomach twisting with something you donât dare name. He doesnât say another word. He doesnât have to. You feel it.
Donât you dare move.
You don't breatheânot until he's already finished the work, releasing your thigh and walking up to the teacher; sliding his test into the professor's hands with an infuriatingly perfect smile. The teacher returns his smile ten times brighter, both pleased and impressed, bowing politely to dismiss him back.
It takes five seconds before your brain catches up with your body, jaw dropping in utter disbeliefâMinho was the first one to turn in his test, making him the first to get a perfect score, therefore putting him slightly above your soon-to-be perfect scoreâwhich means he beat you.
"What the hell was that?" you spit. Minho doesnât spare you a glance as he slips back into his seat, swiveling around with a smirk on his face and his tongue in his cheek.
"What, 'that,' are we talking about? My undeniable victory, or how slow this class is?" Minho muses, throwing his feet onto the desk, and tipping his chair back as if the whole scheme was a piece of cake. You were ready to punch him square in his freakishly perfect jaw.
"You are unbelievableâ" You donât get to finish your scornful sentence before the bell rings. The class erupts from their seats, filing to the front. There was so much you wanted to do, but you couldnâtâyour hands were tied, tight, painfully behind your back. So instead, you do the only thing you can: turn in that stupid test.
When you get back to your desk, you find Minho leaning against his, a cocky smirk still playing on his pretty pink lips.
"Oh, you're just loving this, aren't you?" you spit venomously, stuffing supplies back into your bag with a little extra vigor. Minho cocks his head, standing up a little straighter. "Loving beating you? Yeah, you could say that."
You scoff, rolling your eyes. "You couldnât have done it without the answers I wrote on my thigh." At the mention of your thigh, Minhoâs gaze tilts downward. His entire demeanor transformsâonce cocky and proud, now washed away in an instantâsomething softer taking its place, something you couldnât quite place.
Gently, disarmingly, Minho brings his palm to your waist, guiding you to sit on one of the desks behind you. "Whatâ" you begin, but he beats you to it, asking, "Did I do this?" Confused, you look down at the mark in questionâdarkened fingerprints ghosting over your skin where his fingers had pressed a little too hard.
You swallow. "I didn't notice it."
"Does it hurt?" he frowns, gingerly brushing the bruise forming on your thigh. His voice is uncharacteristically soft, almost as if he's actually concerned about your well-being.
"Yeah, kind of," you wince, but you don't move from his soft touch. His lips press into a thin line, the slight furrow of his brows deepening with guilt.
"What, you wanna kiss it, make it feel better?" you joke, a weak attempt to ease the tension. He pauses for a moment, then, in one swift motion, drops to his knees before you.
You gasp, a quick, trembling breath that melts the words in your throat. His eyes stay locked on yours, the weight of his gaze heavy as he inches closer, mouth nearing your thigh. You hold your breath, heart hammering against your ribs. He takes his timeâtwo agonizing seconds stretching into hours. His breath is hot against your skin, before his lips finally brush the bruise, leaving a gentle kiss in its wake.
"There, all better," he says, standing back up and slinging his backpack over his shoulder, nonchalantly. He doesn't say another word, simply waltzing out the door like he didn't just leave you a spaghetti noodle, all slippery thoughts and wobbly limbs.
You stand there, jaw in the center of the earth, gripping the edge of the desk so hard it threatened to crack. The class had filed out ages ago, leaving you to regather your thoughts in sweet silence.
You still feel his lips, hot and gentle, against the flesh of your thighâreliving the moment over and over and over again. You couldn't bear to look at him, weeks into the future, still dizzy and disoriented, struggling to focus with him so close beside you. Minho knew, no matter how much you hated that thought. Minho knew, he saw how your grades started slipping, how slowly your comebacks started getting shorter, sweeter, a little bit more flirtatious.
That was his plan the entire time; because, even on his kneesâMinho held all the pieces.

haircut â spencer reid
pairing: spencer reid x reader ( no use of y/n ) summary: you're caught off guard by spencer's haircut content warnings: mention of stuffing yourself with ice cream and popcorn a/n: boyband spencer makes me feel things so i just had to write this
You pushed open the door to the conference room. The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, mixing with the faint scent of paper and ink from the stacks of case files spread across the table.Â
Penelope Garcia was already seated. She looked up from her laptop the moment you entered, her eyes lighting up as she greeted you.Â
"Good morning, sunshine!" she chirped, holding out a file for you.Â
You smiled, the warmth of her energy making the early morning a little more bearable. âGood morning,â you replied, taking your seat beside her. âThanks, Pen.âÂ
She gave you a playful wink. âAlways here to deliver your daily dose of doom and gloom.âÂ
You chuckled, shaking your head as you leaned back in your chair, settling in. âHow was your weekend?â you asked, genuinely curious.Â
Penelope sighed dramatically, pressing a hand to her chest. âOh, my dear, it was divineâa full 48 hours of zero crime, binge-watching the most ridiculous reality shows, and eating a huge amount of popcorn. A true masterpiece of relaxation. What about you?â Penelope asked, her eyes fixed on her computer screen as she attempted to pull up the PowerPoint for the case briefing.Â
You sighed, stretching slightly in your chair. âSame thing,â you admitted. âSpent the weekend on the couch, barely moving, while shoveling buckets of ice cream down like it was my full-time job.âÂ
Penelope gasped dramatically, turning to you with wide eyes. âYou didnât move? At all?âÂ
âBarely,â you confirmed, already missing the comfort of your couch. âHonestly, I think I might have become part of it.âÂ
She snorted, shaking her head as she finally got the PowerPoint to cooperate. âRespect,â she said, clicking through the slides.Â
Before you could respond, the conference room door opened again, and the rest of the team started trickling in. Hotch took a seat next to you, as he opened his files, while JJ leaned toward Penelope, the two of them quickly falling into conversation.
You glanced around the table, scanning the usual facesâuntil you noticed an empty seat.Â
Spencerâs seat.Â
Your brows furrowed slightly. He was never late. If anything, he was usually one of the first to arrive, sitting quietly with his coffee, already halfway through the case materials before anyone else had even opened their files.Â
When JJ and Penelope began presenting the case, you had no time to let your anxieties cloud your judgement regarding the empty seat. voices pulling you back into work mode.
That was until JJ suddenly smirked and said, âWell, hello.âÂ
Your eyebrows furrowed as you turned to her, confused by her reactionâuntil you followed her gaze.Â
And then, your mouth fell open.Â
Spencer had just walked in.Â
But not the Spencer you had been expecting.Â
He lookedâŠÂ different.Â
Not in a bad way. Not even in a way you had the right words for. Justâdifferent.
His normally tousled curls had been cut shorter, neater, styled in a way that framed his face and somehow made him look even moreâGod help youâattractive. It was a change you hadnât been prepared for, and from the silence that briefly passed over the team, you werenât the only one caught off guard.Â
Spencer gave a small, almost shy smile at JJâs reaction before heading to his seat. He settled down on the other side of Hotch, setting his bag on the table.Â
Hotch barely looked up from his file as he raised an eyebrow and deadpanned, âWhat, did you join a boyband?âÂ
A small frown creased Spencerâs face. âNo,â he replied, the petulant tone in his voice making a few people chuckle.Â
Conversation quickly resumed, the team diving back into case details as though nothing had happened. But you? You were barely processing a single word.Â
Your mind was too busy reeling.Â
Your eyes kept drifting back to Spencer, betraying you as they traced over his new look. The sharpness of his jaw, the way his now-shorter curls curled just slightly at his temples, the way his freshly cut hair made his cheekbones stand out a little more.Â
This was dangerous. Very dangerous.Â
Because if you had thought Spencer Reid was cute before, you had no idea how you were going to survive this version of him sitting across the room from you every day.Â
As expected, Hotch wrapped up the briefing with his usual stern voice. âWheels up in thirty.âÂ
The room stirred with movement as everyone gathered their files and bags, preparing to head to the jet. You slung your bag over your shoulder, but not before sneaking a few more glances in Spencerâs direction.Â
Unfortunately, you werenât as subtle as you thought.Â
At some point during the meeting, Derek had caught you staringânot once, not twice, but multiple times. And when your eyes met his across the table, he grinned knowingly, amusement flashing in his gaze.Â
You had felt your face heat instantly and quickly looked away, pretending to be very focused on your files.Â
Smooth. Real smooth.Â
You got up, ready to make a quick exit before you could embarrass yourself further, but just as you turned toward the door, Spencerâs voice stopped you.Â
âHeyâuh, is it okay if I ride with you?âÂ
It was such a simple question. A question he had asked before. Sometimes Spencer drove with Derek, other times he rode with you. It was normal. Casual.Â
So why did it suddenly feel like the most dangerous thing in the world?Â
You swallowed, gripping the strap of your bag a little tighter. Your usual response would have been an easy, effortless âYes. Of course.â But today? Today, you could barely meet his eyes without feeling like your brain short-circuited.Â
Because he looked that good.Â
Still, you forced yourself to nod, offering a quick, âSure.âÂ
You kept your gaze trained on the hallway as you stepped out of the room, hoping that if you avoided looking at him, your heart would stop hammering against your ribs.Â
Unfortunately for you, Spencer had already fallen into step beside you. You stepped into the elevator together, the metallic doors sliding shut with a soft ding.
A silence settled between you, not entirely uncomfortable, but not the easy kind you were used to with Spencer either.Â
Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed him tapping his shoe against the floorâa habit youâd picked up on over the years. Spencer only did that when he was nervous.Â
That surprised you.Â
He never did that around you.Â
You and Spencer were closeâso close that sometimes it felt like too close. Like the kind of close that made your heart race when he so much as looked at you a certain way. And today, with his new haircut and the way his suit fit just right, that feeling was overwhelming.Â
Your eyes flickered to the floor, watching his shoe tap against the tile before glancing up at him.Â
Big mistake.Â
Because the moment you did, your heart flipped in your chest. He looked so good, and that single thought refused to leave your mind no matter how hard you tried to push it away.Â
You quickly looked away, biting your lip, hoping he hadnât noticed your staring.Â
But of course, he did.Â
âIf itâs a bother,â Spencer suddenly spoke, his voice quiet as the elevator hummed downward. âI can drive with Derek to the airport instead.âÂ
Your stomach twisted at the suggestion. It wasnât that you didnât want him in the car with youâit was that you wanted it too much. And now he had clearly picked up on your avoidance, which only made your embarrassment ten times worse.Â
âNo, Spencer,â you said quickly, shaking your head as the elevator dinged again, signaling your arrival. âYouâre not a bother at all.âÂ
You barely gave him time to respond before stepping out of the elevator, making a beeline for the parking garage.Â
Spencer followed closely behind, and even though you werenât looking at him, you could feel his gaze on you.Â
You unlocked the car, and Spencer slid into the passenger seat beside you. Normally, by this point, the two of you would already be knee-deep in some random discussionâwhether it was a case, a bizarre fact he recently read, or a debate about which movies held up over time.Â
But right now?Â
Silence.Â
Not the comfortable kind. Not the kind that came from years of understanding each other so well that words werenât always necessary.Â
This was different.Â
Spencer was quiet because he sensed something was off. He was a profiler, after allâhe could read people better than anyone, and he had definitely picked up on your shift in behavior.
And you? You were silent because you feared that if you opened your mouth, youâd do something completely mortifying. Like stutter over your words. Or say something dumb. Or worseâblurt out the fact that you had spent the entire morning internally spiraling over how ridiculously good he looked today.Â
Your fingers curled around the steering wheel, your gaze fixed ahead.Â
Beside you, Spencer set his bag down at his feet, shifting slightly in his seat. You could feel the weight of his stare even without looking at him.Â
âIâm sorry, Spencer,â you said suddenly, staring straight ahead. âI promise thereâs nothing wrong. I guess Iâm just⊠off today.â You exhaled, fingers tapping absently against the wheel. The last thing you wanted was for him to think he wasnât welcome here. âAnd I am happy to drive us to the airport.âÂ
Spencer was quiet for a moment, but then, in a soft voice, he asked, âDo⊠do you want to talk about it?âÂ
You swallowed hard, pulling out of the parking lot. The road stretched ahead, but your mind was a tangled mess of thoughts, each one worse than the last.Â
What were you supposed to say?Â
Oh hey, Spencer, funny thingâI literally cannot look at you right now because youâre so insanely attractive that I might actually die on the spot?Â
Yeah. Probably not the best thing to say to a coworkerâand more importantly, to the friend youâd been secretly crushing on for longer than you cared to admit.Â
So instead, you shook your head, offering the safest response you could manage.Â
âNo, itâs nothing.âÂ
You werenât sure if he believed you. But for now, he didnât push.Â
The drive to the airport was short, but thankfully, Spencer had started talking about the case almost immediately. You were relievedâyou could focus on the conversation instead of the way your heart kept stupidly skipping beats.
Plus, driving gave you an excuse to not meet his eyes.Â
That was the problem, wasnât it? His eyes.Â
Warm and intelligent, always analyzing, always seeing you in ways that made you feel exposed. So, you kept your attention on the road, discussing victim profiles and behavioral patterns.Â
Before you knew it, you were pulling into the airport lot.Â
You parked carefully, turning off the engine as the conversation about the case trailed off. Both of you got out, grabbing your bags before heading toward the jet.Â
It wasnât until you were walking side by sideâno distractions, no case details to focus onâthat Spencer suddenly asked, âWhat do you think ofâŠâ He hesitated. âMy haircut?âÂ
You froze for half a second, your grip tightening on the strap of your go-bag.Â
Oh.Â
Oh, no.Â
You hadnât been prepared for that.Â
âUhmââ You stuttered, caught completely off guard, your brain scrambling for a normal, casual response.Â
You walked slower, suddenly hyperaware of his presence beside you. Spencer matched your steps, his hands tucked into his pockets as he glanced at you, waiting.Â
Finally, you swallowed and forced yourself to speak. âIt looks great,â you said softly. âI like it.âÂ
Spencer tilted his head slightly, watching you. âYeah?â His lips curved into a small, pleased smile.Â
âYeah,â you nodded, willing yourself to keep it together.Â
But thenâbecause the universe apparently wanted you to sufferâyour mouth betrayed you.Â
âI mean, it makes you lookâŠâ You trailed off, but Spencer was still watching you, waiting for you to finish, and oh god, you were already in too deep. You cleared your throat. âReally handsome.âÂ
Spencer blinked.Â
Your stomach dropped.Â
You hadnât meant to say that out loud.Â
Heat immediately crept up your neck, and you snapped your gaze forward, walking faster in hopes of escaping your own embarrassment. But Spencerâbeing Spencerâwas too damn observant for his own good.Â
His eyes widened slightly, something clicking in his mind. His posture straightened, his brows lifting ever so slightly as realization dawned.Â
âThatâs why youâve been avoiding my eyes.âÂ
It wasnât a question.Â
Your breath hitched.Â
âNo, no,â you said quickly, shaking your head as you picked up your pace, the jet now in sight. If you just got inside, if you just sat down and pretended this conversation never happened, maybeâmaybeâyou could salvage what was left of your dignity.Â
But Spencer wasnât letting it go that easily.Â
âWaitââ He reached for your wrist, his touch light but enough to stop you in your tracks.Â
You swallowed hard.Â
Slowly, reluctantly, you turned to face him, keeping your eyes trained somewhere near his shoulder instead of his face.Â
Spencer let out a soft breath, studying you. âSo⊠I was right?âÂ
Your lips parted slightly, but no words came out. Your heart was pounding.Â
âAbout you avoiding my eyes,â he clarified, his voice softer now, more careful.Â
You exhaled sharply, forcing a nervous laugh as you rubbed the back of your neck. âIâno, I justââ You sighed, giving up mid-sentence. Lying to Spencer Reid was pointless. He could probably read you better than you could.Â
His fingers twitched at his side, like he was debating whether or not to reach for you again. Instead, he tilted his head, his eyes flickering across your face, searching for something. âYou think I look⊠handsome?âÂ
You groaned, shutting your eyes for a brief moment before opening them again. âSpencer, please.âÂ
But he wasnât teasing. He wasnât smug. He looked genuinely curious.Â
And thatâsomehowâwas worse.Â
You sighed, shoulders slumping in defeat. âYes, okay? I think you lookâŠÂ really good.â You avoided his gaze, focusing on a spot over his shoulder. âToo good, actually, which is kind of annoying because it makes it really hard toââ You stopped yourself before you could say concentrate at work like a normal human being, realizing how that sounded.Â
Spencerâs lips parted slightly, as if surprised by your admission. But then, slowly, his mouth curved into a small smile.Â
Not a smirk, not teasingâjustâŠÂ soft.Â
Warm.Â
And something about that undid you a little.Â
âI didnât think you noticed things like that about me,â he admitted quietly.Â
Your eyes snapped to his.Â
Was he serious?Â
You let out a disbelieving laugh, shaking your head. âSpencer, are you kidding? Of course I notice things like that about you.âÂ
His smile faltered just slightly, a flicker of something vulnerable crossing his face before he looked down, like he was processing that.Â
The jet door opened in the distance, voices echoing faintly from inside, but neither of you moved.Â
Then, after a long moment, Spencer glanced back up at you.Â
âI think you look really good all the time,â he said simply.Â
Your breath caught.Â
Before you could respond, a voice called out from the jetâDerek, naturally. âYou two coming or what?âÂ
You cleared your throat, tearing your gaze away from Spencerâs as you took a step toward the jet. âYeah, coming!â you called back, trying to keep your voice steady.Â
Spencer fell into step beside you, hands in his pockets, but his small smile remained.Â
And as you both climbed the steps to the jet, you couldnât help but think that maybeâjust maybeâthis conversation wasnât over yet.Â

the waiting game ;
tsukishima kei x reader
reader is childhood friends with tsukki, and has an ongoing bit where she'll ask him out periodically. she's grown used to him saying no, and doesn't expect it when he actually says yes.
You would easily consider Tsukishima Kei your closest friend. You grew up on the same street, went to the same schools, and were in the same class on multiple occasions, so your frequent proximity had forced the two of you to become very familiar with one another. Though he had a personality that others may find sour, knowing him for so long meant that you had seen every version of him, and knew that there was more to him than the reputation that he had gained. Sure, he was arrogant and standoffish a vast majority of the time, but you knew that he was also kind and considerate towards those he cared about.Â
You didn't think that it was possible to gain feelings for a friend so close to you, but over the years you couldn't help but find yourself growing more and more intrigued with the idea of being in a relationship with your best friend. You cherished the friendship that the two of you had, but you couldn't help but wish that it could blossom into something more. Even as a child, you knew you wanted to make a move, but were held back by the fear that he would take it negatively, and you would lose a friend that meant the world to you. Sure, you both had other friends outside of each other, but a life without Tsukishima Kei by your side was not something you wanted to risk.Â
The first time you asked him out was a joke to test the waters. The situation had been perfectly laid out for you, so you figured you might as well give it an attempt.Â
At twelve years old, you, Tsukki, and your deskmates sat chatting about how White Day was approaching, with some members of the conversation more enthusiastic than others. One boy excitedly announced that he had started dating another girl in the class, and was planning on surprising her with candy on the special day. One by one, each of the boys rattled off who they wanted to give a present on the holiday, while the girls helped pitch ideas on how they could make their surprises even better.Â
"Who are you getting a present for, Tsukishima?" a voice sounded next to you, a bright eyed girl addressing the one member of the circle who had not made a contribution.Â
Tsukki stared blankly at her, before shaking his head, "No one, I don't have a girlfriend."Â
The boy seated next to him accusingly pointed a finger in his direction. "There's gotta be someone you want to get a gift for. It's White Day, this is your chance to get one!"Â
Your best friend scoffed, folding his arms in defiance. "It's a made up holiday, and a girlfriend right now would be a waste of time and money. Why would I buy chocolates for someone I don't have any interest in?"Â
Sounds of protest came from everyone sitting at the table. Upon hearing his thoughts, you supposed that should have been a clear enough answer to whether or not he had an interest in anyone, but you couldn't help but think that he was only staying quiet because you were present at the table. While somewhat disappointed, you knew that this was your chance to prod him further and get a more concrete answer.
"Date me, I'm your best friend and I'll gladly take the chocolates," you half-joked, trying to play it off as cool as a twelve year old possibly could.
Your answer came quickly, not in the form of an answer, but in the ease of him brushing you off, not even considering the possibility that you could genuinely mean what you had just said.Â
"I'm not getting anything for anyone, find someone else to buy your chocolates."Â
Following that conversation, it had been a whole year before you took another chance at proposing the idea of a relationship, fearing that you would be shot down once again. It was a similar situation; the environment had given you the chance to casually slide the idea into the conversation, and you couldn't give up the opportunity.Â
You and now-thirteen-year-old Tsukishima Kei stood in a convenience store on your way home from school, picking out snacks after you had spent a long day with your clubs at school. You were in the art club and had to take home a painting that you had done on a disproportionately large canvas. As you decided you wanted a barbecue pork bun, Tsukki picked yours up on your behalf, seeing as your hands were fully occupied with your artwork. Standing at the till, he gave the payment to the store owner, an elderly man with a strong gaze, and took the bag that was handed to him in return.Â
"Young man, why don't you give the food to your girlfriend and carry that massive painting for her instead?" the elderly man chimed as the two of you began to pull away from the counter.Â
Both your eyes widened, and you could see that the taller boy's cheeks had gone slightly red at being criticized by the man before you, along with the realization that you had been incorrectly identified as his girlfriend. He opened his mouth in protest, but the store owner gave him a pointed look, forcing him to place the bag back on the counter and take the painting from your arms. A large grin broke out on your face as you picked up the buns and gave the man a toothy smile while the two of you gave him a small bow before exiting the store.Â
"That's more like it," you heard the owner's voice carry from behind you as the doors to exit the store chimed while you walked into the evening air.Â
The second you were out of earshot of the man, you broke out into laughter, immediately turning to the boy who had turned an even deeper shade of red.Â
"Hear that Kei? Carry the massive painting for your girlfriend," you mocked, taking your bun out of the bag and taking a bite, ensuring to make a grand show of the amount of freedom your arms had in that moment.Â
"Tsk," was the only response heard from the boy as he turned his face away from you to try and hide the red that was slowly disappearing from his cheeks.Â
"I say we should start dating so that you can become my personal artwork carrier," you quipped as you skipped ahead of him along your path.Â
"Never going to happen," his voice sounded from behind you, unamused.Â
"Go out with me!" you called back, continuing to skip ahead of him.Â
"No."Â
That incident had begun the joke that ran between the two of you. You would ask him out, and he would respond with some form of deadpan denial. Your friends had grown accustomed to it, expecting you to make the joke from time to time. On the days you spent with both Tsukishima and Yamaguchi, the shorter boy would even occasionally play along.Â
"What in the world is that poster for?" you asked one day, noting an obnoxiously coloured poster stuck to a pole near the corner where you and Tsukishima split off from Yamaguchi on your paths home.Â
"A couples dancing competition," the green haired boy read off with a laugh.Â
"I wonder what the turnout would be, based on how ugly that poster is," your best friend commented, leaning forward to get a better look at the image before the three of you.Â
"The two of you should sign up," Yamaguchi responded jokingly, matching the smile that was growing across your face, "It would be a sight."Â
"You're so right, both of our incredibly above average dancing skills would blow the competition away," you joked, "the only thing we're missing is being an actual couple."Â
"I'm not going out with you."Â
"It was worth a shot."Â
As you grew older, the two of you continued to remain best friends. You had shared sentiments over schoolwork, had jokes shared between each other, and you knew the ins-and-outs of each others' lives. You were closer than ever, but the fact that you two had only grown closer meant that it hurt even more that the two of you wouldn't be anything more than friends. As far as you were concerned, he only thought of you as a cherished friend, and all the times you had asked him out were nothing more than a gimmick resulting from a comfort level obtained from your level of friendship. You loved having him as a friend, but as you grew older and more mature, your feelings grew with you, and your childhood crush developed into infatuation with the boy living down the street.Â
When high school came around, you both joined Karasuno together, acknowledging that it made sense for you to attend the same school once again. After the incident when you were thirteen, he had formed a habit of helping you carry your larger paintings on the walk home, and in turn you feigned some interest in the volleyball club, hearing what he and Yamaguchi had to say about their matches.Â
When the boys volleyball team qualified for the finals of their tournament, you joined your school in supporting your two friends as they faced the top school in the prefecture. You were one of many loud voices cheering the boys on, though you liked to believe that amongst them all, you were cheering the loudest. When Tsukishima made the first block against the opposing ace, you felt a burning pride to see the boy you liked finally begin to show some emotion on the court, your excitement visible from the stands.Â
Though you didn't understand the game well, it had you on your toes; everything that took place was crucial to the boys' success in the game. So encapsulated by the gameplay, and cheering on the series of blocks that Tsukki had done only moments before, you were confused when murmurs started to pass through the crowd and the players began to crowd around the tall blonde. It took a few seconds for you to realize that he was injured and was gripping his hand while the others spoke to him. Concerned, you left your spot amongst your classmates and approached his brother, who had a matching look of concern etched upon his face.Â
"Akiteru, did you see what happened? Is Kei injured?" you questioned, standing next to the older Tsukishima brother.Â
"I hope not," he muttered back, eyes carefully watching what was going on below.Â
You both watched intently as your friend wrapped a towel around his hand and began to walk towards the gymnasium exit.
"C'mon, let's go see what happened," he stated, as you both left the stands along with the first-year Karasuno manager to go meet his younger brother. Walking down the steps you could feel the anxious energy radiating off of all of you, and you tried to shake it off so that the injured boy would not sense it too. The three of you met him outside the doors of the gym.Â
"Kei, are you okay?" you asked, somewhat redundantly; of course he wasn't 'okay' if he was leaving the game because of an injury.Â
"I'm fine," he quipped back, trying to act more nonchalant than you could tell he felt inside. You observed your friend as he had a back and forth with his brother over his physical state. He commented on how it was nice to rest after all the sets- you could tell that there was some truth to the statement, but you could also see that he had finally found his groove, and really wanted to be back in the game. As he began to walk away, you could see the frustration emanating from his stance, and you and his brother decided to follow him and the older manager to the infirmary.
You ran up to catch him, and walked alongside Tsukki, Kiyoko and Akiteru. You walked in silence, knowing that the middle blocker was busy ruminating on the events of the game, and could only think of getting back on the court, despite his efforts to pretend otherwise. As the four of you arrived at the infirmary, you sat beside him and the two others stood near the door behind you while the nurse took a look at his hand. You could tell that he was scared that the nurse would announce his hand was too severely injured and he would have to sit out the remainder of the match.Â
To try and ease some of the nerves that he would be feeling, you grabbed his non-injured hand and gave it a small squeeze.Â
"I'm sure it's fine and you'll be back soon," you whispered so that only he could clearly hear, "and once you get back, you'll win the game and go to nationals."Â
You gave him a small encouraging smile, finally meeting his eyes, and for a few moments the boy did nothing but stare back at you.Â
After a short pause he finally responded with a nod, "I hope so," before dropping his eyes as the nurse analyzed and dressed his wounds. The remainder of the visit, you four sat in silence, the volleyball player evidently deep in thought over what he would do when he returned to the match, however his eyes occasionally fluttered away, as if something were distracting him.
Soon, his finger had been wrapped and immobilized, and the nurse announced that he would be allowed to return to the game. The four of you sprung up, and began jogging back to the gym, Tsukki slightly out-pacing the rest of you. You and Akiteru stood by the doors as the other two ran to the coach to explain his condition and request that he be put back in the game. You and the other Tsukishima brother ran back up to the stands to watch upon seeing him take a seat on the bench, the substitution card in his hand.Â
You watched as the remainder of the match unfolded, Tsukki back on the floor, knowing that he was still in pain though he tried to hide it. You didn't think it was possible, but you were even more captivated by the game in front of you, every movement drawing you closer and closer to the edge of your seat, more and more in awe of your best friendâs tenacity. When the final point was scored and Karasuno were announced as the winners, you jumped out of your seat, cheers and hollers all around you as your entire section cheered on the victory of your school's team.Â
The victory party had begun, with Karasuno staff and students overjoyed alike, excitement filling the air. The team bowed to your cheering section, and you let out more cheers to your two friends before you. You first made eye contact with Yamaguchi, who had found you in the crowd sooner and you gave him a smile and a thumbs up to show your congratulations. Noticing his teammate's line of vision, your best friend found you as well and you beamed even more, changing your thumbs up into a heart that you made with both your hands. You could almost hear the half-laugh, half-scoff that came from the boy as he immediately turned away from your antics. You couldn't help but laugh as well when you turned away from your seat and started to join the crowd that had begun to trickle out of the stands.Â
When everyone had finished mingling in the lobby, you excused yourself from your other friends to go greet the volleyball players who were dispersed outside the gym. You easily spotted the blond head of hair that stood taller and slightly apart from his teammates, the green-haired boy nowhere in sight.Â
You decided that the best course of action to get his attention was to launch yourself at his back. So you did, and he let out a yelp as he caught you behind him, a small exasperated laugh being let out. You let go of him and gave him a proper hug, but from the front, despite his protests.Â
"What did I say, go back soon, win the game, go to nationals," you said matter-of-factly, pointing a joking finger in his face once you had finally freed him of the hug, "I think I can see the future."
"I mean we were already so close to winning, the prediction was right in your face," the boy responded sassily, obviously trying to get back at your outrageous remark.Â
"I don't know, I think I have a gift," you continued joking, "I'll show up to all of the nationals games and start predicting who's going to win, just you wait and see."Â
"There are too many games going on, you'd never go to them all," the boy responded, trying to shut down your new aspirations.Â
"No, I'll do it, just you wait and see. I'll go to all of yours too, up until you win it all."Â
"You'd look like a stalker, the crazy fan of Karasuno who won't leave us alone."Â
"Hmm... no," you responded back, "The best course of action is for us to start dating because then I would no longer be a crazed fan and instead a loyal girlfriend there to support my boyfriend."Â
"Mhm okay."Â
"And then if anyone asks I could just say that I... wait did you just say okay?"Â
You had continued on your rambling, so focused on the dumb situation that you had thought up, that you had completely failed to notice the boy's response, or the way that he had been looking at you since the moment you had met him outside the gym.Â
He now stood, smiling smugly at you, and you realized that while you had been going on and on, he had been looking down at you, a newfound admiration on his face. You couldn't say when exactly the change had been made, but you realized now that he was looking at you in a way that he had never once before, and you began to feel the butterflies in your stomach.Â
"I did say okay," he stated plainly, placing a hand on the top of your head, making light of the fact that he towered over you.Â
You were speechless and could do nothing but stare back at him in confusion.Â
"After all this time, did you want me to say no again?" he asked, when almost a whole minute passed without a response from you.Â
"NO, no not at all," you said finally, accepting that he wasn't just messing with you and actually meant it, "it just caught me off guard."Â
The boy removed his hand from your head and smiled once again, less smug this time.Â
"Okay, so now I'm expecting you to show up to all our games at nationals and be the supportive girlfriend cheering me on constantly."Â
"Girlfriend already?" you retorted, once again taking his non-injured hand in yours, the difference being that now he held it as well, the feelings no longer one sided, "What happened to taking a girl out on a few dates before claiming that title?"Â
"Did you really ask me out all those times just to not even want to be called my girlfriend?" he asked back, eyes narrowing in disbelief at the comment that you just made.Â
"Nevermind, girlfriend it is."Â
Bonus:
A week had passed since the volleyball team had won the game against Shiratorizawa. The boys had been busy following the win, so you finally had a moment to treat both your friends to a congratulatory dinner. The three of you walked in the direction of the restaurant on a Sunday, with you standing in between your two friends. You passed a hideous poster, identical to the one that the three of you had previously joked about.Â
"Now that we've mastered volleyball, I think it's time for you two to take up dancing seriously," Yamaguchi smiled, recalling the previous joke that you had made over the poster.Â
"I wholeheartedly agree," you said back, "this time we even meet the couple criteria."Â
Yamaguchi stopped walking, turning to look at the two of you. You innocently looped your arm into Tsukki's, though your boyfriend stood still, no reaction evident on his face or through his body language.Â
A few seconds passed before Yamaguchi unfroze and continued walking, a smile now plastered on his face.Â
"Congratulations," was all he said at first, before he finished his train of thought, "but it was really about time."Â
