I'm a new reader, and I just have to say-- your "a doe in fall" series is just... AMAZING!!

I could go on, and on and on about how much I love it. But what gets me the most is always Alastor's dialogue, because as someone who is also on the aro/ace spectrum, I just get it so much. Especially the subtle hoping that reader can like... Read his mind about how he feels for her, and the weird sort of stockholm syndrome we sometimes develop with ourselves after being alone with only our own company for so long, and it really is, lol, like you just get so used to being alone for so long because you know the idea people have of you, you can't truly live up to, so you don't want to "disappoint" them that you actually aren't like they are, so you just sorta... Keep them occupied at arms length-- Therefore you're forced to adapt to your company being the only love you have for a long time. it's like an obligation.

And when or if the special somebody who understands you comes along, you realize... "Wow, I've been living like this for so long, is this what it feels like to be loved and appreciated, in spite of my oddities, or maybe even in favor of them? Strange..."

Emphasis on the "strange" part because, when you're so deeply entrenched in your own soul, sharing your space for another almost feels more like learning how to swim rather than an instant "click", sparks, fireworks and whatnot. The excitement of the magical "other" has been long since drowned and snuffed out of you.

So, when this somebody who is similar to you, or just simply understands, doesn't try to change you or ignore you, but instead envelopes you and adores you, the appreciation is deep and overflowing. But there's a part of you always pinching your heart, a sort of awareness of something that isn't the case, wondering "Is this a dream? what if it is and I'll wake up and this is not at all what I was thinking?".

Haha... ANYWAY, sorry for the slightly morose and LONG read 😂 But I always think of how similar I am to how you write alastor and it's scary in a way, but comforting (especially since he's my first and biggest fictional crush) except in this case my profession would actually be burlesque. Especially since I work in the exotic dance world. It's fascinating being aro/ace in the SW world, I could go on forever- But yeah, I absolutely love your writing!! Makes me feel less alone in this world. Annnd surprisingly I always feel so sensual after reading, I love love love it!! Now I’m gonna ramble and echo you basically 😂

I really think Alastor (atleast in this story) feels that excitement and strangeness of how open he can be around Autumn (since she doesn’t have a proper name cuz she’s reader 😂). He’s a fish out of water despite the fact he’s actually being his most authentic self. Like you said, it’s new to him just to be … Alastor. To be honest and upfront. His normal operating mode has been so restricted for so long he’s struggling with how to be himself. And then that fear—- well what if I’m too much? What if I ruin this, when I finally have something worth keeping? He’s never gotten this far and the fear of losing that comfort is terrifying but so is the actual comfort itself. It’s new and foreign.

A deep uneasiness that’s if he fully embraces this he’s gonna just fuck it up and it’ll be his fault this time. Not a misunderstanding or misalignment of needs but a confirmation he wasn’t good enough anyway.

“it is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all” he would say that’s bullshit

and because of the situations he’s been in before, he’s never gotten to actually explore physical intimacy in a “safe” environment. He was always going into interactions because he had to if he wanted to keep people around. It was a necessity, not something he actually sincerely wanted to participate. So he tried to keep them happy with other means of affection and intimacy to maintain some safe distance but eventually, always, things would fall apart. At a distance or up close.

that’s why that most recent part was called Learning. Alastor is trying new things to learn more about what he’s okay with or doesn’t care for even offering in the future. Autumn is learning (that night, tho she doesn’t understand it yet) that he’s still figuring out how to meet her halfway (even tho she’s not even asking for that) when he’s used to being forced to meet people where they are. And Detective Brady, of course, is learning he may have found motive for Tommy’s disappearance.

I’m really glad you’re enjoying his portrayal and that you’re resonating with parts of him! That makes my soul hum! 💖 your line of work mixed with your Aro/Ace-ness sounds like such an interesting conversation if we’re honest! That’s a small aspect I love about Autumn. She’s in this field that’s (wrongly) considered to be hyper sexual and full of air headed wanton whores, but she’s the first person to be like “oh! You aren't into this stuff. Let me adjust my expectations. I’ll ask for clear verbal consent, not initiate, and I’m totally okay with never fucking again if it’s for your love and company.”

Then probably made her two assistants write down the most brag worthy things on her white board and sticky notes,

And overcompensating lies to make herself look like a good person,

(like saying she feeds stray cats, consistently sends love to her followers that she had to write it down twice, and and actually cares about world peace 😂)

Then afterwards, she probably just opened up her laptop to her Instagram account to pose for a photo, faking it to make it look like she was typing and thinking "that's what my annoying community manager does right?"

All this just to rub salt in Anana's face, not giving her credit, by saying she is her own manager and independently does all of the work managing her brand on her own without anyone's help, all by herself.

And Anana, seeing this post will be like "This ungrateful spoiled bitch that I have to work for..."

But she is probably not surprised that she does this..., as she worked for her for many years since the early days of her heroine career.

I theorised that Miss Heed and Anana have an "I hate you, but I have to work with you, relationship" 😂

For Miss Heed, despite what Anana has done to build Miss Heed's brand to make her a popular heroine and help clear her name, she probably still hates Anana due to her still not meeting all of her demanding and spoilt requests, probably because it can do more harm to her brand reputation in the long run.

(For example, not allowing her to use social media until her reputation is cleared, as it might raise some questions.)

Leading to both of them having a heated argument and a yelling match as shown below.

(I wonder if Miss Heed posted that Community Manager post after an argument with Anana out of spite and petiness 😂)

For Anana, because of this she sees Miss Heed as a "spoilt, demanding and ungrateful brat" but tolerates it because it is her job and since Miss Heed's dad signs her cheques, she would listen to her father over Miss Heed any day.

And also I theorised she knows that having to deal with spoilt heroes is the price to pay for being on the "winning side" and profiting out of it which is why she formed "The Sisterhood of The UwU" Superhero fanclub when she met other women in the hero industry who share the same experience and goals, benefitting from having heroes having a good reputation, despite knowing that they are not actually good people.

Hence creating this "sisterhood" which allowed her connections to help each other by making the heroes, beneficial to each member, look good by any means possible.

Aside from this, looking back at Miss Heed's Instagram again, after Chapter 10 of The Risky Heist, now knowing she didn't do anything herself is hilarious 🤣

And seeing as how Miss Heed tends to take credit for other people's work as her own, like claiming be to her own manager and claiming Flug's formula to be her own.

Let’s talk about Loki | S2 Episode 2! 😍

*takes a deep breath* HEAVY SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2 OF LOKI!

Is it just me or is it hot in here? Not just me? Oh, good. I mean, honestly… that shadow scene was fan service. And trust me when I say that this will continue to make appearances in my future Imagines. Good gods… that suit and those green glowing eyes? Um, yes, please?! 🥵

Well… and on that note—you don’t mess with Loki. I told you X5 or Braaad (you got to say his name like you’re drunk) was gonna be trouble. Still hate him. He’s the type of douchebag who has no purpose when being bad. Blergh. He deserved Loki’s mischief. Also, can we please talk about how Loki was towering over him? That dark, purry and slow voice?! It would have worked on me… or I would have pounced on him and kissed him senseless… one of the two. Probably both at the same time.

Now I can also, finally, say what I’ve been meaning to say since last week but I couldn’t because of spoilers—I am so FREAKING MAD at Sylvie! Look… I know that in her mind, it was Loki who messed up. She thought he was gonna help her kill He Who Remains and he didn’t. Okay, fair enough. But it baffles me how she seems to think that Loki screwed things up when she was the literal cause of all this chaos and the one who kissed him and then dumped him through a time door. Literally and figuratively.

The fact that she thinks she’s happy… working at a McDonald’s on a branched timeline in the 80s… please. She finally has freedom and she’s doing this out of spite but this isn’t the life she truly wants, we all know that. I think she’s overwhelmed and she doesn’t know what to do with her feelings now that she’s killed He Who Remains. It didn’t give her the type of satisfaction that she wanted and if you think about it, she made it her life mission to bring down the TVA. Now that that’s done, more or less (she did realise after all that all those branches mean the TVA won’t go away properly) she’s a bit clueless and it shows. She’s gonna have to come around of course eventually… I mean, plot and story progression, after all, buuuut still—she’s gonna have to make up big time if she wants me to forgive her. She hurt him. That’s practically unforgivable. And on that note, I know there are Sylki shippers here reading this but every time I see these two together, they give me sibling energy. Soooorry, I can’t help it! 😂

So now the branched timelines are gone—for now, leaving only the Sacred Timeline, more or less—for now. There’s gonna be new branches again, of course. Something came to my mind the second time I watched it today though… didn’t they say in Season 1 that once a timeline reaches the red line, it can no longer be controlled by the TVA? Did I miss something here, was that a lie made up by He Who Remains so they’d take care of branched timelines as soon as possible? Because if it was true then how did they prune those timelines? Almost all of them were way past the red line! Or maybe this will have different types of consequences later on? Who knows!

That key lime pie tastes as good as it looks, by the way. So let’s talk about Loki’s and Mobius’ conversation while they were having a slice. I already read a few comments today and saw that a lot of people were missing the fact that Loki failed to mention that he was mind-controlled by Thanos when he attacked New York. I agree—it could have been thematised more but then again… I still think it was. Hear me out:

We know that the sceptre was influencing Loki—but not in the way he was using it to influence others. The sceptre/mind stone brought out the worst of Loki’s emotions and intensified them—in this case, his anger at his father and his brother (which he mentioned) and which is what Thanos used to manipulate him, promising him the “throne of Midgard” etc. It was a slippery bargain of course, because The Other was watching Loki and making sure he upheld his end of this bargain, or else Thanos would kill him. After all, why did he strike a bargain with that purple grape in the first place? He was hurled through space when he fell from the Bifrost. Remember? “I remember you tossing me into an abyss, I who was and should be king!”

So… yes, Loki was manipulated and mind-controlled by Thanos, we already knew that, of course, and personally, I think it’s still so traumatising for him to think, let alone talk about it that he would rather focus on his anger that caused all of this. If Loki was the honourable hero character (who we don’t need him to be anyways) he probably would have let Thanos kill him no matter what he offered. Maybe he wouldn’t have talked his way out of it with a bargain that meant the cost of many innocent lives. Instead, he let his anger drive him and Thanos used that to his advantage. That’s my ten pence on it!

From now on, I’m as in the dark as you guys. No clue what’s gonna happen in Episode 3 but I reckon we’re gonna meet Renslayer again. Let’s give her a good slap in the face when we do, shall we?

Is it just me who finds it problematic and weird how Olivia keeps getting caught in these copyright infringement scandals? Like girl how hard is it to give credit to someone or pay for the sampling 😭???

Taylor Swift & Olivia Rodrigo, friends or foes?:

Lmfao this is so dramatic but I had a vision of Olivia being hysterical and crying saying "Our friendship is over 😡😭!!!". She's really taking it to heart and feels this was a personal attack on her, when that it is not the case. To Taylor, this is just business, and she felt that she was being disrespected by someone who was supposedly her biggest fan. Taylor feels that she can be inspired by her, but it's not right for her to copy her. She questions how much of a "singer-songwriter" Olivia actually is. They are on really bad terms as of right now.

How does Taylor feel about Olivia?:

I feel that Taylor really appreciates the love and support that Olivia had given her all these years. She could see her younger self in Olivia and had high hopes for her. Taylor could of had possibly wanted to be her mentor? Or someone Olivia can depend on in the industry since she's seen the highs and lows of what the music business can do to people, especially Disney stars in particular. Taylor thinks what Olivia did was sneaky and could even think her behavior in general is very two faced. She believes Olivia acts as this sweet girl but then takes from other people to get what she wants or likes to take credit so she can get the praise. Once Taylor discovered the song similarities she deaded that shit immediately LMAO. Taylor did not care that Olivia idolizes her, she cares more about her craft more than anything, and will do whatever it takes to protect it. I heard "I worked hard for this, not you." (Period T.Swiftie!!! Go off T Swizzle 😂). She's not playing with Olivia fr. Taylor knew this situation would emotionally upset Olivia since she has such a strong attachment to her but she knows that she can't let her feelings get in the way of work. So Taylor had to do what was right and fight for justice. She feels guilty though and might reach out to her soon to try to patch things up. Taylor could be reading what people are saying about her on social media and after the court case, she feels like she needs to be alone to recover because disappointing someone so dear to her makes her upset. "It's either me or you, I have to choose me."

How does Olivia feel about Taylor?:

Olivia is absolutely distraught by this situation. She has looked up to Taylor for years and feels like the saying that "Don't meet your heroes because you'll be disappointed." is true, but I don't feel like that's what's really going on here. Taylor didn't do something to purposely go against Olivia and be spiteful towards her. It's just that she doesn't understand how serious this is. This is a business matter and a legal issue, you can't just graze over work just because you are friends with somebody. Olivia feels like since she is inspired by Taylor, that's why their songs are similar but she didn't actually intend to copy her. I am almost reminded of like those people on tiktok who promote themselves and caption their videos with "There's this new girl who sounds like Ariana Grande and blah blah her name is ___" Then it's their music and concept that looks and sounds the exact fucking same as the artist mentioned. It's really just a cheap and tacky tactic to gain more popularity. Being so "heavily" inspired by someone is problematic because you're not being yourself and you're copying off somebody's else's hard work. We don't need another Taylor Swift, we need to know who Olivia Rodrigo is. Olivia is being immature, she is still young so she is easily impressed by the fame, celebrities, etc, but if Olivia wants to make it in this business she really needs to grow up and find herself. She's in her 20s now and this is the age of self discovery. Olivia needs to find her own identity and learn about what makes her happy and what is her purpose as a musician. Otherwise this industry will chew her up and spit her out. As fast as she became famous, she will go downhill just as quickly if she doesn't get it together.

Could they be friends again? Were they ever truly friends?:

They were never really close friends because Olivia has this perception of Taylor that's not true to her. Olivia's view of Taylor could be really outdated. It's like a little girl who's missing her big sister. Taylor is not the same teenager with her curly hair and acoustic guitar anymore, she's a grown woman. So as much as they wanted to be close, it's just that Olivia can't get past her own assumptions of Taylor. With the Seven of Cups, their possibility of being friends is really up in the air. I honestly believe these two are going through some sort of karmic lesson right now. They are learning from each other about doing what's right. As much as Taylor is mad about what Olivia did, she is thinking of ways to reconcile with Olivia. Even though Olivia is in her feelings right now, she really misses her. So maybe in the future we could have hope and see if they will be on good terms again.

TBOSAS Crack! Take: How Casca & Crassus “Accidentally” Made Panemvision.

Ok. First off, this is just purely for the laughs after a lot of late night drunken shenanigans with some friends. Also, this take was inspired by that Hunger Games + Eurovision post by the-fatal-impact (here). And after watching that Netflix Eurovision movie, The Story of Fire Saga, I think it’s about time to create this HG AU, featuring the Capitol’s No. 1 karaoke party loving delinquents, the irresistible drop dead gorgeous Crassus Snow and his dramatic boyfriend, Casca Highbottom.😂

Heads Up: In this AU, the first 9 Hunger Games still stayed the same (with all the killing and suffering) because Dr. Gaul and her team altered the final thesis paper of Crassus & Casca out of spite.

I mean, the insane doctor definitely loved the first half of the paper about a bunch of District kids competing. However, when she got to the singing contest part, she almost tried to burn their “accursed” paper to bits. She also even wanted to strangle her top idiot students for having the audacity to propose such ludicrous nonsense to her.

But after some deliberations, Dr. Gaul decided to grudgingly keep half of their original ideas and added her own sadistic twist to the game. Of course, her “changes” were approved by her team in order to “properly” punish the rebels. But honestly, this is the only way to finally kick the two karaoke addicts out of her life by letting them graduate.

However, years later, everything changed when the Game Makers added a bunch of borderline insane delinquent students from The Academy (of Arts) as Mentors for the 10th Hunger Games, not knowing that a poor cabbage boy named Coriolanus Snow kept a copy of his dead father’s final thesis proposal (AKA: the infamous ✨Panemvision✨ paper that Dr. Gaul wanted to burn), and is ready to change the Hunger Games forever in the name of love money.😌💅

So here’s how it happened:

So one sunny afternoon, Dr. Gaul asked all of her graduating students to create a punishment for one’s enemies so extreme that they would never be allowed to forget how they had wronged you. At first, they were all concerned and confused. Some even got worried for a second. However, they all quickly started brainstorming when their teacher threatened to fail and expel them from the University (of Arts).

Of course, Casca Highbottom was not thrilled by their predicament, even though he really wanted to graduate with his best friend/secret boyfriend, Crassus. So instead of doing the assignment, he just went to their favorite Nightclub to get roaring drunk.

But the ever gorgeous Crassus Snow was not having any of his boyfriend’s BS. Casca promised him that they would graduate together since the first grade! Since their first kiss! Since the day Casca asked him out on a date! So Snow followed his BFF to Pluribus Bell’s Nightclub.

When Crassus got there, Casca was already drunk AF. He tried to convince his very drunk boyfriend to go home with him and work on their assignment. He even offered to carry him back. Alas, nothing worked.

Casca refused to go along with Snow’s sassy excuses and threatened to throw pink confettis at him.

However, after some back and forth arguments, Casca finally gave in when Crassus threatened to breakup with him.

But before they leave, Highbottom demanded Snow to drink one glass or two, and sing at least 10 songs of his choosing to celebrate their last “hurrah” as University students.

So they did. They got roaring drunk. They sang their freaking hearts out, and annoyed Pluribus Bell and his patrons nonstop. Some even claimed that their late night karaoke shenanigans disturbed President Ravenstill’s beauty sleep.

So after singing Heaven is a Place on Earth and Snow On The Beach , they finally decided to write their last assignment on a piece of napkin. They also decided to name their paper ✨The Hunger Games: Panemvision!✨

Basically, Panemvision is a “game” where a bunch of randomly chosen District kids (between the ages of 12 to 18) compete in a spectacular singing contest (whether they’re talented or not) to help their respective District receive food bonuses and other perks from the Capitol.

They also agreed to place a “no killing, no gore, no cannibalism” policy to force the losers to live with their humiliation on LIVE TV forever.

And that is how you properly punish your enemies by recording and broadcasting them live on television for all of Panem to see and remember. However, if you’re talented, you’re basically safe from the inevitable humiliation.

Moreover, drunk!Crassus Snow insisted that they have to write all of it down inside their favorite nightclub to immortalized their last moments as the “Wild Karaoke Duo Delinquents of the Capitol.”

The next day, the couple woke up in Casca’s bed, naked. No one really knows what happened to their clothes, but future historians agreed that the two drunk idiots threw them in front of the Presidential Palace by accident.

And let’s just say that last night ended in a mystery, and it will stay a mystery until the Mockingjay sings.

Alas, when the two idiots finally had the courage to face and ask Dr. Gaul about their assignment, which they accidentally sent to her last night, she only told them that their paper was so obnoxiously stupid and unforgivably ridiculous. It may even start a different kind of “revolution” if their moronic ideas will see the light of day.

However, Dr. Gaul did confess that the first part of their paper was quite interesting. But as for the rest, they might as well burn to ashes.

Well, who cares! They still miraculously graduated with flying colors at the end of the day. Their professors even gave them a special award for writing and presenting their crazy thesis paper in front of the class.

Then the infamous ✨Crasca University Breakup✨ happened, and everything started to go downhill for both Snow and Highbottom.

Casca even became so depressed when he heard that his former lover, Crassus Snow decided to date a rich older businessman from District 2 named Strabo Plinth just to spite him.

Years later, after the First Rebellion, and after General Crassus Snow’s unfortunate death, the Capitol was in control again!

Dr. Gaul implemented her own version of the Hunger Games to punish the Districts for their treasonous actions. She also made Casca Highbottom the new Dean of The Academy (of Arts) out of spite.

And the true reason why Highbottom became a morphling addict was because of his former lover’s death. Also, he greatly despises Strabo Plinth (and his son) for some reason. #Crasca4Ever

But have no fear! Our poor cabbage boy, Coriolanus Snow and his crazy Mentor friends will eventually change the course of history by reintroducing the “real” version of the Hunger Games. Panemvision will rise and dominate the world and District 13 can stay mad and sad forever because they’re not allowed to join the fun!

That’s what you get for starting a war, District 13! No ✨Panemvision✨ for you!

And Johnny? He messed up every single realtionship in his life. He did love Rogue and Alt. But was too selfish and stubborn to make it work. With Lexa it is something else. Not only does he truly love her, but for the first time he puts his girlfriend as a priority and it was an absolutey concious decision, not just something that happened. He does kill for her but he also would asbolutely die for her. This unhinged Maelstrom is the one for him.

Actually this was about why they call each other "Rockerboy" and "Maelstrom", which have become their pet names for each other.

When they first started dating most people in their lifes were not really fond about them being a couple. They heard a lot of arguments against them and sooner or later they were always told things like "He's just a useless Rockerboy!" or "She's an insane Maelstrom!".

So out of spite they started to call each other these names in front these people, who were against them. And even after all of them finally shut up (or were made to) they kept calling each other "Rockerboy" and "Maelstrom". Not out of spite anymore, but in an absolute loving way now.

hi angel, first of all, thanks a lot for your ask 💞 i wasn't offended at all by your ask, i've liked reading all your thoughts on the fic & especially on jk, it has made me laugh a lot 😂 i also take them into consideration for perfect time, it helps me build the characters and it also helps me to understand how you perceive them. because i imagine one thing but i can be understood totally differently.

the perfect example is eunjin, the baby mama. for me, she's simply trying to help, she doesn't want anything from jk and she doesn't feel threatened by oc because she isn't in love with jk nor does she believe that her daughter would call oc mom. she's concerned and wants to help. i didn't build her to be toxic but some of you perceive her like that.

then yeah, jk has been acting like a complete idiot. he hasn't moved on at all, and is very immature. he simply was overwhelmed with everything & didn't know how to act when he finally got what he desperately wanted for 10 years.

for sure, oc deserves better, jk didn't treat her right. he didn't move on from their relationship & treat her badly when she's finally back. however, I want to believe that people can change with time & maybe jk will change in the future 🤷🏻‍♀️

A couple questions about mamba. What's her sexuality? Has she ever felt feelings for an ooman? Is the spelling of "Mamba" as "Momba" intentional? Like how "Mom" and "Mam" make the same soumd, but it's "Momba" because she's a loving momma?

Momba is straight. But if a male gets on her bad side, she will find his mates and sleep with them out of spite for the male. She has never felt anything for a ooman, other than she thinks they look strange, lol. She kinda looks at them how one would look at a pug; ugly but cute. And her name spelling was actually unintentional cause I suck at spelling, but I just stuck with it since people were making that comparison. A lot. Welp! Here it be. My own interpretation of the Jacqueline Dies AU. I did say I was gonna throw Lucy at it and... that's exactly what happened. 😂😅

I’ve been somewhat undecided about posting this wee beastie, for a variety of reasons. Foremost being that I found it really difficult to reconcile the whole Jacquie Being Dead Thing with my own personal stipulations for writing fanfic in this universe, which essentially boil down to “Jacqueline needs to be included”. I love Jacquie too much, man. Her being dead hurts my heart! As does the Twins not existing! If not for the lovely and talented SafyreSky giving me a gentle nudge/bit of encouragement, I may not have shared this at all. 

There are certain elements, however, of which I’m rather fond, I’ll admit. Therapist!Lucy was a lot of fun to write, despite my undying love for doctor!Lucy. The whole psychoanalysing element provided fertile ground for in-depth character exploration. Of Jack, namely. This is a particularly dark Jack. Perhaps the darkest I have ever and will ever write; that much will be plain from his first appearance. He’s very cold and closed off and quite frankly a real asshole at points, but that, too, was a treat to sink my teeth into.

We get some nice fluff between him and Luce, after he’s thawed, which was healing for my soul. I'm really pleased with the way their friendship develops, over the course of the story. It mirrors ML to a fairly large extent -- the two of them consistently coming through for one another; their dynamic being based on mutual respect and admiration, in spite of all the bantering/bickering.

We also get a sweet sibling-y moment between Charlie and Luce, and some fun Mel and Ozzy content. Bernard even makes a cameo! I adored every nod to Jacquie I was able to include (the piano scene in particular). And the ending, which I amended fairly recently and, as a result, now vastly prefer (owing predominantly to the revelation about Convergences, as featured in Saf’s beautiful one shot) warms my heart. For reasons that will likely become clear if/when you read it!

I worried that, because a good proportion of the fic is just Jack and older!Lucy in a room trying to one up each other, it wouldn’t be interesting to anyone but myself. But hopefully that’s not the case! It does have a fairly even balance of all the characters, over all. 

Needless to say, this thing got entirely out of hand and is so much longer than it should’ve been! I think bc I ended up fitting ideas and concepts into it that I haven’t and likely won’t be able to feature in ML. Hence me making it a proper one shot on Ao3!

(Side note: Whenever I write a one shot I do so in present tense for some reason? No idea why. But there we have it).

CD's Movie Poll #1 Winner

The Road to El Dorado

Kicking off the start of my movie poll/movie watching series is Dreamworks’ The Road to El Dorado!

ngl this film has been on my watchlist for quite a while, and yet I never got around to actually watching it until now! (or rather, not until the other night lol) I’d heard so many great things about it before like the memorable characters, the kind of 2D animation that you really don’t see in Dreamworks films these days, and of course, the music!

I will say that I really enjoyed all three of those things in some ways and others 🤩

Right off the bat, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh have really great chemistry! In fact, I loved their chemistry so much that I wanted to see footage of them recording their lines. so I legit looked up something like “road to el dorado behind the scenes” on youtube as soon as I finished watching the film and found that not only did they do ALL their voice recording sessions together in the same room but they also used plastic swords and playfully had it at each other!! AHHHHHH! so good!! 😂 ⚔️

but yeah they're hilarious! both on screen and behind it. I also just love the fact that both Kevin and Kenneth come from theater backgrounds cause I think that definitely added to how well they portrayed being con men 🎭

Ofc actors aside, some of you probably know this about me already, but I’m a BIG fan of dynamic duos when it comes to media...

I loved the straight man-ness that was Tulio, and he was probably my favorite of the two. I tend to like characters that find comfort in strategy, cause I tend to be that kinda person too. I know sometimes the logical and level-headed ones aren't always funny, entertaining, or the people to root for in the slightest. But Tulio definitely isn't one of them. I found myself chuckling at a good number of things he said and did like not believing in fate simply cause he relies on loaded dice for example, plus his sarcasm, and how much he tried to compose his patience as well

Miguel was great too! It was fun how much he loved the city of El Dorado and just wanted to take it all in, and his endless optimism of course! But he definitely needed more guitar playing scenes! idk there’s something about those characters who just have an instrument to play at the ready for dramatics that’s really humorous for me, it’s almost, if not totally, breaking the fourth wall in a way 😆

I also really enjoyed the Chief, I love how it’s implied that he knew all along Miguel and Tulio were humans and not gods and yet he still liked them and let them stay anyway. that said, it's kind of a shame that the pair didn't stay in el dorado cause there genuinely were people there who adored them when clearly the people of Spain didn’t…heck they didn't seem to have a problem that they weren't actually gods!

and you have to admit, Miguel and Tulio did match the stone art of the gods quite nicely, like the resemblance there was freaky 😳

Chel was great as well, her cleverness and way of sweet talking definitely stood out to me the most about her character, and I also really loved her voice! 😌

and Altivo the horse? I wanna say he was truly Miguel’s companion when compared to Tulio earning the heart of Chel. after all, Miguel was the one who wanted to rescue him and bring him along, and I was genuinely happy when they decided to bring him on their journey cause the horse wasn’t a bad guy, like he not only gave Tulio and Miguel the keys to escape the ship, but he wasn’t spiteful to them or anything. basically what I’m trying to say is he isn’t how Maximus treated Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert initially, horse to con man

As for the villain? well…this is the first of three times I’m gonna be saying, “I got some Aladdin vibes from this movie" 😅 👉👈 which isn’t completely a bad thing by any means! 

But yeah…I immediately got Jafar vibes the minute Tzekel-Kan came on screen (also I had to look up this name cause I didn’t catch it very well while I was watching this film, I just kept calling him “Priest Guy”)

I mean…the fact that he can do sorcery, on top of serving a sweet kind-hearted ruler, tangling with not just one but two thieves, anybody picking up what I’m putting down? Yeah that’s really all I gotta say about that guy 🤷🏻‍♀️

also I swear to god that Jim Cummings is in literally everything that was 2D-animated in the 1990s-2000s! and he's always gotta play that big tough guy. Again, that also reminded me of Aladdin. but then again the conquistador didn’t really have that big of a role in this, at the very least I just hope he gave T-K what he got coming to him

I guess just to get it out of the way, I was admittedly humming "One Jump Ahead" in the beginning when Tulio and Miguel are getting chased through the city, but that’s all there is in terms of Aladdin similarities the way i see it

lastly in terms of the characters and cast, I gotta give credit to Elton John for being part of it too! I mean who doesn't love a singing narrator? and he and Tim Rice did an awesome job crafting the soundtrack for this film. every song was absolutely BEAUTIFUL 🎶 ✨

Needless to say, the animation was 👌 and the opening sequence was definitely one of my favorites throughout the whole film as well as the expressions and the solid movements of the characters, very well done no question there. oh! and how there were just gold objects of anything from butterflies to apples in el dorado! they didn’t call it the city of gold for nothing! ✨✨✨

but in the end, did it really have go the route of the overall goal is get all the gold by the end only to actually lose most, if not all, of it by the end? I just feel like that plot line is done a lot in movies. tho to be fair, this was made in the 2000s so heck, it probably began that trend. But I’ve found in recent years that when it comes to treasure hunting movies, this exact scenario happens just repeatedly and it’s nothing new. I’d say movies like The Goonies and Uncharted are two that come to mind for me that have this happen...

Now there’s no way I can conclude my thoughts here without saying how AMAZING the “It’s Tough to Be a God” sequence was! I LOVED the “It's Tough to Be a God" sequence from the singing of the two leads to the colors to the everything about it, it was all magnificent! I'd arguably say it was my favorite scene in the whole film! And I'd be lying if I said that Miguel and Tulio’s version hasn't been stuck in my head ever since I watched it, because so help me it HAS and STILL IS and why that version is not on Spotify, I have no clue, but it SHOULD be. Again, props to Elton and Tim for writing this song and the others!!

So overall, I thought El Dorado was a great movie! It was definitely worth the watch! It's not perfect by any means, I'm not even sure it's my favorite Dreamworks film, but it was still very fun and entertaining all the same and I'm really glad that I finally got to see it after all these years! 🤗

It's surprising how insidiously the words and concepts from others seep in. One day, you catch yourself in the act of self-depreciation, wondering where those thoughts even came from...and then you remember. Oh. It was him. It was her. It was that one conversation we had where I opened up too much, too fast, too little, too early on, too passionately...and they called me stupid. Or some lesser evil that on the surface didn't seem "that bad" until the full impact of it hits you years later. With him, it was always those little barbs. Things that did not seem poisonous until years later. Side note: Part of me wants to think that someone so determined to criticize others must be miserable themselves. But I don't think that's the case. I think some people literally just go around hurting people with their words and actions and can be the happiest, most self-satisfied individuals you'd ever meet. I'm just exhausted with all the extra work this individual has put on my plate as far as loving myself. I already had A LOT to deal with. But now??? I have years and years of undoing things that I wouldn't have to fuck with if I had never met him. Some days, I love myself just out of spite alone. This is the doc where I'm writing my small collection of Spite Fics. (To be clear, these are about spiting the fandom and showing appreciation to over-hated characters and ships via fics. not spite about in-universe characters.) I named this doc "Ugh, look what you made me do" because i was motivated by fandom hate.

These fics are about characters I like and characters i'm completely apathetic too, ships i like and ships i dislike and ships i couldn't care less about. some of them are blatant excuses for me to rant through characters, some of them are silly little fics with an actual plot-like substance in them. the point is that i'm writing (mostly crack) fics about things that fandom loves to hate, out of 99% pure distilled SPITE.

(NGL, I can think of at least two that would get me unfollowed by like. A LOT of people. if i ever published them. 😂😂)
