I’m soooooooo intrigued by this one. Is she sharpening the daggers? Is someone else sharpening the daggers? Is it the public? Is she the temptress or is someone else?

I knowwwwwwwwww it’s the perfect amount of vague to keep me salivating. I was talking with friends and I lean more towards she’s the temptress. And it’s a self effacing, I’m stepping back now and removing myself from the equation like you wanted kind of thing. But there’s no way to know!

My other less convincing thought was that it could be from the mind of Clara Bow who was famously slut shamed and run out of Hollywood, among other things that were done to her. And it’s interesting that so far, I’ve mused that ALL of the teaser lyrics feel like they could be from Clara Bow’s story. It really hits home how similar their stories are in a lot of ways, and why Taylor felt such a kinship that she would make a song about her. Falling in and out of public favor, relationships chopped up and served as fodder to the rabid public, struggling to adapt in a rapidly changing art form while still getting artistic fulfillment out of it and not losing her sense of self, growing too big and becoming something bigger than herself until she loses control of it entirely. She’s likened herself to a few famous figures before of course, but Clara’s plight feels distinctly parallel to hers, or what her’s ultimately could be depending on her choices and it suddenly makes it clear why it might be the closing track. It’s not that Taylor and her are alike in many personal ways, but that her story is one that history has repeated time and time again in the way it builds up and tears down the women we idolize. And it’s one she’s living through, and how futile it feels to fight against a history that is doomed to repeat itself. How all of the people she likens herself to have bowed out, taken themselves out of the fight before the world could. It feels like she’s trying to figure out what the answer to her own salvation will be, and having tried bowing out herself, if that’s something that will be best for her like it ultimately was her predecessors or just something she felt like she had to do.

Felt like drawing a sassy Bwonsamdi. Spent waaaayyyy more time on this than I meant to.

For those who don't know, Bwonsamdi is the Loa of death, and the guy who shows up instead of the guardian angel every time you die over in Zandalar in World of Warcraft. Unlike the angel, who stays silent, every time you die there he gives you a little quip, like, “Ah, ya come ta spend some quality time with Bwonsamdi?” or, “Let me guess… ya got in over ya head?” stuff like that. He's a cheeky bastard and I love him for it.

I thought about making this a Redbubble design, but decided against it. Redbubble's implemented this new thing where you have to post a certain amount to reach a certain level, or something? And if you don't they take a portion from your sales? It's bullshit. Plus, I'd have no idea how to crop this without it looking weird.

Also I struggled for forever to get the text to look okay over the image, so you'd get the tagline over it like he's talking. But every time I tried it looked weird, or the font wasn't right, or whatever, so fuck it! I just typed it into the post instead. I wish you could make the font just a smidge bigger, but this looks far better than it did when I tried to put the text over the image. And, you get to see the drawing better anyway! Win-win!

(Sorry if I rambled too much down here. Like I said, I spent forever on this, so I'm a bit nervous about sharing it. hahaaaaa)
