Zombies on Screen: My Top 10
We're back at it again with my zombie obsession and today I will be treating subjecting you all to a ranking of my top ten favourite zombie movies and/or shows. Because yes, this is still an ongoing thing for me and it doesn't look like it's stopping any time soon.
If you want to see less of my zombie ramblings, feel free to block the "curio reviews" tag.
And now, on to the list!
🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️ [22 Zombie Emojis]
10.) Kingdom: Ashin of the North
While I don't like this special as much as I do its parent series, I still enjoy it, and I started a list of "animals in zombie dramas" because of it. Considering the way Ashin was introduced at the end of Kingdom and the unlikelihood of a season 3, I am so glad we at least got to see some of her story in this movie. This is not an easy watch. Kingdom has its comedic moments, of course, but Ashin of the North is an undeniably darker, sometimes uncomfortable, addition to the series. And yet, it suits the character and the tone introduced at the end of season 2 almost perfectly. If we never get a season 3, at least we have Ashin.
9.) Warm Bodies
It's been a while since I watched this film but I remember enjoying it, if not being slightly confused at some points. The whole "zombie eats mans brain and then falls for man's girlfriend because he can see their memories together" is Weird, if not somewhat creepy, but I suppose that's the "zombie" part of the zombie rom-com. Or zom-com, if you will. I do like the ending. Yeah yeah "the power of love and friendship cures everything" is an interesting trope choice for a zombie film, but I absolutely loved it.
8.) Zombie Detective
I looked up "zombie shows" and this one kept getting suggested so I thought I would give it a try. I knew that it was a comedy and still didn't expect the mild Looney Tunes-esque sound effects. Sometimes during a dramatic throwing sequence there'll just be the sound of a slide whistle as the object makes impact with its target, and at first I thought it was annoying but it genuinely grew on me. It took me a couple of episodes to get into it (bearing in mind it's a 12 episode series), but eventually, I enjoyed it and even found some of the humour to be funny. The plot drags a bit- they start telling one story, it becomes another, and then they manage to get back on track to the original story in the final 4 episodes- but it does all tie together so I'll give it a pass. The tongue-in-cheek references to other zombie shows and films (Train to Busan, anyone?) are great (and yes I also agree that Ma Deong-seok is the greatest threat to a zombie's existence /j). Though I doubt it will ever happen, if a second season ever comes out I will be watching it.
7.) Happiness
My issues with this series are similar to my issues with Zombie Detective. It drags a bit, and then parts of the final episodes feel so rushed? I don't know. The death fakeouts in the end also started to get a bit annoying, and we get some resolution as to the fate of the main leads and antagonists in the end, but I would have liked even a brief montage of what happens to the rest of the supporting cast as well. You spend 12 episodes getting to love or hate them, and then just...nothing. Yeah yeah it's implied earlier in the episode, but I would have liked more visual confirmation, you know? Even so! For all the faults I have with it this was a great series. And some of the music in this is so good??? I still stand by that, as much as you'll grow to hate her character, Bae Hae Son is an absolutely fantastic actress.
6.) 28 Days Later
The first 12 minutes of this film is almost entirely music that steadily increases in volume and pace, and it is just so great. I was on the edge of my seat. Could have done without the shot of Cillian Murphy in the buff to introduce his character but eh. I get the hype for this film, I think it's warranted. I was worried that, with the difficulty I had in finding a version to watch, I wouldn't enjoy it, but thankfully I did.
5.) 28 Weeks Later
Honestly I think this one is slightly better than the first one. Maybe I'm just biased because Robert Carlyle is one of my favourite actors (that man plays the role of the cowardly father to accidental villain extremely well), but I really like the way the ending set up the third film. Which is not to say that I'm not wary of how they will go about the third film, especially now that they're actually filming it, but I do look forward to seeing how the third will hold up given how strong the first two are.
4.) #Alive
Specifically the 2020 South Korean film, not the 2020 American film of the same name and based on the same script. I think what I like about this film is the vagueness. There's no attempt to explain why the apocalypse is happening, and there's no attempt by the leads to cure it. It just exists and they are forced to try and survive it with little more than what they already have. It is phenomenal, and I really, really liked the whole "zombies retain some basic skills from their being human", like being able to climb a rope or use a door handle. It's so creepy. Would I have liked a bit more development on that front? Sure. Does the film work without out? Absolutely.
3.) Shaun of the Dead
I don't know why I enjoy this film so much, I just do. Call it a soft spot for homegrown comedy if you must, but I did actually find myself liking this film far more than I thought I would. It's 20 years old this year (release-wise) and to mark that it was/is being re-shown in some cinemas. 20 years on and some of the jokes don't necessarily hold up, but dammit it's a good film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recently saw a comic strip that was released to coincide with the original release of the film, and it adds a new perspective to it all. Yeah the film is funny, but the strip focuses on the character of Mary, the female zombie that Shaun and Ed first encounter in their garden, and shows how, in her last moments alive, she reached out to them for help but they didn't realise and brushed her off. It is incredibly sad and adds another layer to the film that makes it worth its status as a cult classic.
2.) Kingdom
Ah, I love this show so much. I have rewatched it so many times, and it's still just as good. Honestly, I think one of the greatest things about this show is the rewatch value. Once you've seen it, when you go back and watch it again you see that they actually reveal the cause of the zombie outbreak in the first few episodes, but you probably won't notice it, or even understand it, on your first runthrough. I love it. I highly doubt we will ever get an official season 3, which is a shame, but Ashin of the North is a great follow-up regardless, and I'm glad they at least allowed one of the most promisingly interesting characters in the series to get some screen time and development.
1.) Zom100: Bucket List of the Dead
You can pry this film from my cold dead hands. I genuinely enjoy it. I watched it last Halloween for the first time and did not regret it. That shark scene is one of the wackiest, most god-awful pieces of CGI I've ever seen. It's terrible. I love every second of it. It's so out of pocket, and, considering the tone of the previous movies I'd watched before this one, an absolutely perfect way to round off my evening. I love everything about this film to the point that I even sat down and watched the anime three days after finishing it. Genuinely enjoyable 10/10 would watch again.

Smokey brand Select: Biohazrd
With the advent of Peninsula’s release, the sequel of Train to Busan, i wanted to take some time and spotlight a few of my favorites Zombie films. My love for Zombie flicks stems more from the circumstances around the outbreak, rather than the monster effects and whatnot, themselves. Don’t get me wrong, the make-up in these things are almost always spectacular, but, for me, the existentialism is where the true horror of these films truly lie. I like the exploration of humanity and lack thereof in such dire situations. That whole man/monster motif. I am a sucker for those tropes and the study of human nature. For me, those make the best kinds films, that mirror to ourselves, and you get a ton of that in zombie flicks. Now, admittedly, i have seen a ton of these things and it was hard to whittle it down to just ten selections so this is another one of those wonky lists. Look, man, i like movies and this is my list so I'll do what i want!
10b. Overlord
Tumblr media
Overlord is an interesting case. It started out as a spec script, then got made as part of the Cloverfield cinematic universe, but dropped that aspect after Cloverfield Paradox sh*t the bed. I think that was for the best because this movie is f*cking insane. It has nothing to do with Cloverfield and everything to do with Resident Evil and Wolfenstein. Indeed, this is everything a Wolfenstein adaption should be. Nazis and zombies and Nazi zombie super-soldiers - oh my! In all seriousness, this movie is one of the most violent, excessive, gory, cinematic pleasures i have ever experienced. Overlord knows exactly what it is and executes that vision with such fervent, bloody, sloppy, enthusiasm, you can’t help but have a great time.
10a. The Crazies
Tumblr media
I saw the original version of this film when i was a kid on television. I thought it was an interesting take on the zombie formula and kept it’s existence in my back pocket. The Crazies was the first time i understood that a zombie didn’t need to be undead. This film predated my experiences with first Resident Evil game so infection was a brand new trope for me. Fast forward several years, and the remake drops. It’s so much better that the original. It is a low budget film, which means they need to focus on character and atmosphere to drive the tension home, both of which are absolutely excellent. The Crazies is harrowing, stressful, and brilliant. Both versions are good but the 2010 remake, in my humble opinion, is superior in every way.
9. The Night Eats the World
Tumblr media
I stumbled upon this by accident while perusing amazon. I remember hearing about it and thought the premise was interesting. Imagine being locked in one of those dope ass, old timey, Paris apartments during a zombie apocalypse? That hook, alone, got me to bite but the performance given by Anders Danielsen Lie as the lead, Sam, was heart-wrenching. This is a very somber take on the isolation aspect of the zombie genre. This is I Am Legend but with a sobering reality infused in every scene. It was horrifying watching Sam’s mental degradation but a powerful watch overall.
8. Life After Beth
Tumblr media
Life after Beth is probably the only light-hearted zombie film of this list and for good reason; It’s outstanding. I debated whether to put Zombieland or Burying the Ex on this list, both excellent in their own right, but i had way more fun watching this one, than either of those. That’s high praise because the first Zombieland is one of my absolute favorite films. Life After Beth is a unique take on the whole genre and Aubrey Plaza as the titular Beth was excellent. I would say it’s about as good as Zombieland, maybe a little better. Mostly because of Plaza. I really like Aubrey Plaza.
7. Deadgirl
Tumblr media
This is actually Deadgirl’s second time making a Select list. I figured there would eventually be crossover as some flicks encapsulate so many different genres but it’s surprising that it would be this one. Actually, i think the first was Doctor Sleep with the Stephen King and Vampire lists, but Deadgirl is worth a double-dip, too. It’s super low budget and focuses on a rather interesting take on the Zombie genre. I don’t want to get into it too much because the film, itself, is worth a watch. So go do that. Go watch Deadgirl. Right now.
6. Maggie
Tumblr media
This was a legitimate surprise for me to see. Maggie takes place several years after the actual outbreak. Zombies are a thing. They’ve been a thing. Humanity has already crossed that bridge and the virus is just the way of life. they’re the new normal and mankind is busy as much as usual after literally the dead rising from their graves. Precautions are taken to mitigate infection but they still occur with alarming frequency. Maggie is about a father who has to come to terms with his daughter’s infection. You slowly watch this man’s despair and desperation as the inevitable eventually befalls his one and only daughter. It’s stark, and bleak, and f*cking devastating. There isn’t a happy ending to this, it just ends. I loved this movie, man, and a lot of it has to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s performance. That sh*t was amazing and easily the best role I've ever seen in. I’m a huge Terminator fan but this performance as f*cking enthralling. Abigail Breslin is awful in it, though.
5. Cargo
Tumblr media
Before i get into it’s merits as a zombie flick, i just need to say, Cargo is an excellent film in itself. Strong ass performances. A gripping and emotional narrative. Gorgeous cinematography. Deft direction. It’s an objectively beautiful film. Now, as a zombie outing, this motherf*cker is full of the despair. The whole f*cking thing is an exercise in constant, aggressive, tragedy. Don’t misunderstand, it’s excellent, but it will leave you exhausted by the end. It wraps up nicely and with a subtle tone of hope, but you will be emotionally exhausted, for sure, by the time those credit’s roll.
4. The Girl with All the Gifts
Tumblr media
I love this movie if only because they took the cordycep route in regards to infection. The zombie story i wrote way back when i was in high school for my creative writing course, used that as the catalyst for my zombie shenanigans. I always found that sh*t interesting, like, what would happen if that parasitic relationship jumped species. Then The Last of Us came out and i was disillusioned because the story they told, turned out to be so much better than mine. I felt that same emotion when i first saw this movie. The Girl with All the Gifts is brilliant. It’s stunningly human while being objectively horrifying. The zombies play a part, sure, but it’s the inevitable extinction of humanity that drives this film, that haunts most of these characters. It’s X-Men but with zombies instead of mutants and executed in a way that feels disturbingly real. Plus, and i cannot stress this enough, Sennia Nanua is f*cking outstanding as Melanie. To be so young and to give such an emotional performance was a true joy to witness.
3. Night of the Living Dead
Tumblr media
The classic that kicked off an entire genre and still, even after fifty-two years, one of the best examples of it to ever be made. Night was terrifying back in the day, mostly because of different sensibilities, but the horror of that film lied with the people trapped in the house. The true monsters were never the zombies, but humanity, itself. It was watching those survivors slowly turn on one another. It was the realization that people will eat each other when pressed with such harrowing events. I used to think that wasn’t true but then Covid happened and people were trampling each other for toilet paper. That was insane. People would absolutely act this way in real life so that ending, as f*cking abrupt and terrible as it was, rang true. That sh*t is what real horror is all about.
2. The Wailing
Tumblr media
The Wailing is the first of two South Korean zombie flicks to make this list. Indeed, the other is so excellent, it had to share the top spot but this one, for me, was an easy pick at two. I’ve seen I’ve given The Wailing multiple viewings and every time, without fail, i am pulled into that world. It’s a very methodical film, not in the sense of pacing, but more in the sense of plotting. This thing has a story to tell and you have to commit to it being told. It is a lot to ask but, like so many other films that ask this of you, the experience is incredibly rewarding. Don’t let the fact this thing is Korean language stop you from taking in a true masterpiece. It’s gorgeous, performed adeptly, and shot wonderfully. The environment and atmosphere, alone, are worth the price of admission.
1b. Train to Busan
Tumblr media
If 1a didn’t exist, Train to Busan would be the greatest zombie flick i have ever seen. It hits that sweet spot between the human and horror elements perfectly. Setting it on a train makes for some of the most tension filled scenes ever captured of film. For those of you that prefer a more action packed, zombie outing, Busan delivers that in spades, while giving you very real, very emotional, performances to boot. You feel for these characters and the bleakness of their plight. You feel the desperation as the world collapses around them. This movie, zombie elements remove, would still be f*cking fantastic. Add the horrors of an undead apocalypse, and you have one of the most devastating accusations of humanity ever captured on film.
1a. 28 Days Later
Tumblr media
This is the greatest zombie film i have ever seen, hands down. It does everything Train to Busan does, AND sticks that feeling of isolation so well. In a lot of ways, this is more a study on the horrors humanity can commit in the face of oblivion, and i dig that. There are shades of that aspect permeating throughout all of these films but the first third of 28 Days Later nails that bleak loneliness with such aggressiveness, it’s borderline sadistic. This was my first experience with Cillian Murphy and i was thoroughly impressed. Dude was incredible in this role so imagine my complete lack of surprise when he popped up in Batman Begins. It’s said he got Scarecrow because of Days and i can totally see that. Watching this man’s career blossom has been a real pleasure but, for me, his Jim will always be the role i think off when people say his name. If you’ve never seen 28 Days Later, rectify that at once. It’s an incredible, gorgeous film that is definitely worth a watch.
Honorable Mentions: Burying the Ex, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, Dead Snow, Return of the Living Dead, Re-Animator, Day of the Dead, World War Z, Contracted, REC, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Gallowalkers, Pet Sematary, Resident Evil

This is actually Deadgirl’s second time making a Selects list.

I’m tempted to just say every single one for Hundoe and Pernat but i’ll just say every one you wanna do for them bc I wanna knowwww (for the derailed questions meme)

Pernat and Hundoe Mancuu. I dont even remember where those came from,,,
2. Do they have any titles? How did they get them?
Pernats title would be The Guardian. Hundoes would be The Virulent
3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?
They both had fairly good and easy childhoods. Pernat spent the first half learning about Subjuggulation however Dogdad decided that it was unfair on Pernat. 4. What is their relationship with their parents? What’s a good and bad memory with them? Did they know both parents?
Pernat adores DogDad and would die for him legit. Hundoe used to have a good relationship with Dogdad however.... they now have an extremely strained relationship.
7. Did they have lots of friends as a child? Did they keep any of their childhood friends into adulthood?
Pernat knew many many clowns when he was younger due to his local circus, however has not seen any of them in a very long time (thank god. that boy picks up bad habits way to easily). Hundoe was popular. He was charismatic and good hearted. He doesn't have many friends anymore.
9. Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?
Pernat loves animals. Animals love Pernat. Hundoe does not like animals and tends to ignore them, it doesn't help that animals generally dont like him either.
10. Do they like children? Do children like them? Do they have or want any children? What would they be like as a parent? Or as a godparent/babysitter/ect?

Pernat dislikes bland foods, he finds nothing to enjoy in it. Hundoe hates anything thats too sweet.
15. Are they good at cooking? Do they enjoy it? What do others think of their cooking?
Pernat is TERRIBLE at cooking. He burns stuff, gets stuff stuck to pans, sets things on fire. More than once he's made morris come too his hive because he just cant cook. Morris is happy too. Hundoe on the other hand is a BBQ extraordinaire as much as he would never admit it. His barbecue is to die for.
16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?
Pernat has a very very large collection of collars. Im talking like over a hundred at this point,,, people keep buying him them!! Hundoe has way more guns than any troll should possess. He likes them.
17. Do they like to take photos? What do they like to take photos of? Selfies? What do they do with their photos?

Pernat digs a musical and he enjoys theatre! Hundoe is an avid music listener, he likes rock music and country music and a mix of the two.
21. Do they have a temper? Are they patient? What are they like when they do lose their temper?
Pernat is patient unless he's being blatantly ignored, That takes him from one too ten REAL quick. Hundoe doesn't often lose his temper. He knows he can win most fights with brute force.
22. What are their favourite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back?
Pernat mostly just mumbles and bitches about them later to Tardar. Hundoe skips the insulting and goes straight to a pen knife in the gut as a way of saying “fuck off”
23. Do they have a good memory? Short term or long term? Are they good with names? Or faces?
Pernat has pretty bad memory. He writes down a lot of notes but is still prone to air heading on things pretty often. Hundoe doesn't bother trying to remember things. He has a very shut off mind.
24. What is their sleeping pattern like? Do they snore? What do they like to sleep on? A soft or hard mattress?
Pernat sleeps well but occasionally will struggle to sleep for a few days. He doesn't snore but has been known to occasionally bark in his sleep. Hundoe doesn't sleep well. Living in a zombie infested desert where they are constantly trying to get into his trailer during the day makes for shit sleep.
25. What do they find funny? Do they have a good sense of humour? Are they funny themselves?
Pernat isn't quite sure if he's funny or not. But he does feel good about it if he makes someone laugh... even if they're laughing AT him.Hundoe think he is HILARIOUS. He's not.
26. How do they act when they’re happy? Do they sing? Dance? Hum? Or do they hide their emotions?
Pernat is happy 85% of the time. But when he's extremely happy he is flightly, excitable, unable to sit still and generally a bit nutty. Hundoe is at his happiest when he has found someone gullible or easy to control. He feels very proud during those times.
27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad?
Pernat is saddened when he thinks about Tardars short life span. He hates to think about his privilege as a highblood and how he is judged for that. Hundoe an asshole. Nothing can make him ‘sad’ and he doesn't think about his Ex
28. What is their biggest fear? What in general scares them? How do they act when they’re scared?
Pernat is afraid of being hurt and not being able to help people. Fear makes pernat quiet and stressed. Hundoe claims he is afraid of nothing and he certainly  acts it but it isn't quite true ;)
29. What do they do when they find out someone else’s fear? Do they tease them? Or get very over protective?
Pernat doesn't think about it much but will help the person avoid it. what do you think Hundoe would do? (hint: exploit them majorly)
30. Do they exercise? Regularly? Or only when forced? What do they act like pre-work out and post-work out?
Pernats only exercise comes from Avalanche Rescue. However he is very naturally muscled anyway and his muscle is mostly working muscle due to his job. Hundoe is a gym rat, Most of his spare time is spent working out or ‘visiting’ pernat.
31. Do they drink? What are they like drunk? What are they like hungover? How do they act when other people are drunk or hungover? Kind or teasing?
Pernat rarely drinks but has been invited a few times to meet Morris’ subjuggulator ‘friends’ and has managed to get severely drunk. Apparently pernat is pretty good at Keg-Stands. Hundoe drinks regularly and a fair bit. He has a high tolerance and doesn't often get out of it.
32. What do they dress like? What sorta shops do they buy clothes from? Do they wear the fashion that they like? What do they wear to sleep? Do they wear makeup? What’s their hair like?
Pernat likes comfortable clothes that are bright and warm, He still wears makeup in bad habit. He struggles to break his habits and that is one of the ones he hates the most. Hundoe wears very what you may describe as redneck clothes. as you can tell. He wears fairly skinny jeans and likes to wear vest tops and likes topping it off with a denim jacket.
33. What underwear do they wear? Boxers or briefs? Lacey? Comfy granny panties?
Pernat wears a good mix but mostly boxers. although he will admit to owning a few ‘’’fancy’’’ pairs. Hundoe wears boxer Y-fronts only.
34. What is their body type? How tall are they? Do they like their body?
Pernat is built fairly square. He has broad shoulders and a wide chest. Hundoe is very much dorito shaped. Wide shoulder very skinny legs (Pretty great ass though)
35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure?
Pernats guilty pleasure is hanging out with other purple bloods. He doesn't agree with subjugators but he enjoys hanging out with them and enjoys how crazy they can be but promptly takes a step back when they get into violence. Hundoes guilty pleasure is super fancy food places even though he will claim its pointless spending loads of money on food.
36. What are they good at? What hobbies do they like? Can they sing?
Pernat is good at hauling weight and recovering people, He has very good smell but poor eyesight. He enjoys reading and skiing. He CANT sing. Hundoe has a sharp aim and a high (but wasted) charisma. He enjoys shooting things and manipulating people. He can actually sing pretty well.
37. Do they like to read? Are they a fast or slow reader? Do they like poetry? Fictional or non fiction?
Pernat LOVES reading as mentioned. He is a VERY fast reader. He really loves fiction. Hundoe doesn't read. He thinks reading is stupid and unworthwhile. Tell that to his younger self though.... Somebody used to like writing his own stories (but you didn't hear that from me.)
38. What do they admire in others? What talents do they wish they had?
Pernat admires courage and persistence and hopes to be known as a hero one day. He wishes that he could be more assertive and be able too say no. Hundoe doesn't admire others. He wishes he was a god.
39. Do they like letters? Or prefer emails/messaging?
Pernat prefers to message and enjoys chatting on Trollian. Hundoe can write in calligraphy pretty well but doesn't.
40. Do they like energy drinks? Coffee? Sugary food? Or can they naturally stay awake and alert?
Pernat has been shown the joys of coffee by Morris recently. He very much enjoys it but still sticks to a classic hot chocolate. Hundoe drinks too much Coffee and Energy drinks.
41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship?
Pernat is gay and poly however in pale he is Bi. He finds men who are very gentlemanly attractive, he likes men to be polite but sweet. Hundoe is also gay however I personally will not allow him too be in a relationship because he would kill them.
42. What are their goals? What would they sacrifice anything for? What is their secret ambition?
Pernat loves the idea of being known as a hero. He goes home at the end of the night hoping that he will be remembered. Hundoes goal is to be on top. On top of everybody. Alternia. The Fleet. The Heiress. Her Imperious Condescension. The Empire. Everything. He wants to be on top of it all.
43. Are they religious? What do they think of religion? What do they think of religious people? What do they think of non religious people?
Pernat is no longer religious despite still wearing the identifying markers. He doesn't believe in The Circus or the Messiah. Hundoe is religious. He believes he will one day be whats known as the Messiah.
44. What is their favourite season? Type of weather? Are they good in the cold or the heat? What weather do they complain in the most?
Pernat loves spring. He loves flowers and bird and light showers. He does horribly in anything above 10c he cant function he thinks its way too warm. Hundoe lives in a desert. Autumn is the best for him, its not long below freezing but its not almost literally boiling.
45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?
People see pernat as a mean big muscular subjuggulator. Even if he walks with a kind look lowbloods will go out of there way to not walk near or around him in fear. He hates this and sometimes he almost convinces himself that its true. Its the only think he really really hopes hundoe never finds out about it because hundoe would destroy his life with it (by trying to make him act like that (which is fairly likely to work in because of how hundoes powers work on him)) Hundoe Is seen as terrifying. Looks mean. walks mean. is mean. Hundoe knows this. He likes it and demands respect.
46. Do they make a good first impression? Does their first impression reflect them accurately? How do they introduce themselves?
Pernat tries to make the best possible impression because he knows how most trolls think of him before they speak to him. Pernat introduces himself kindly and if he thinks the person needs any sort of assistance he will offer it. Hundoe is rude. uncaring and thinks first impressions dont matter. His first impression is accurate.
47. How do they act in a formal occasion? What do they think of black tie wear? Do they enjoy fancy parties and love to chit chat or loathe the whole event?
Pernat loves dressing fancy! He's not such a fan of black tie events because he likes to be colourful but he still likes to get all dressy. Pernat is a social butterfly and would mingle with everyone. Hundoe on the other hand hates anything formal and would only go to a fancy party to crash it.
48. Do they enjoy any parties? If so what kind? Do they organise the party or just turn up? How do they act? What if they didn’t want to go but were dragged along by a friend?
Pernat enjoys most parties, he's never organised a party but if he did it would be bomb. Pernat wouldn't have an issue being dragged along he enjoys peoples company. Hundoe only likes the most trashy hive parties with cheap beer. He hates socialising and would be grouchy
49. What is their most valued object? Are they sentimental? Is there something they have to take everywhere with them?
Pernats collar means a lot to him. Its a comfort object in its own right but it also reminds him of morris. Hundoes sawn off shotguns have a strong value to hundoe. He believes they are lucky and he's had them 90% of his life.
50. If they could only take one bag of stuff somewhere with them: what would they pack? What do they consider their essentials?
Pernat would bring a change of clothes, survival food and as much water as he could take. Hundoe would take his guns, plenty munitions and snacks.

Hail to the pumpkin song.
Now the clocks have gone back we now have to start our monster hunts an hour earlier as we all know that evil lives in cold dark places. For me (steph) evil is found in the mundane -being a fan of serial killers makes you aware of the innocuous.
So see below Pauls top ten horror films as always with added commentary by your very own Charles Gray.
10. THE BIRDS.
Tippi Hendren portrays the sparky young 60′s socialite that she did so well and then well Hitchcock does what he does best. the build up is whats scary here along with the main scare coming completely out of left field. y’all never look at a seagull the same way.

9. AUDITION
Pretty girls are scary. everyone knows this no matter what side of the gender line you sit on. beauty can do crazy things to a person including torture murder and dismemberment. Japan does so fantastically with horror films and mixes the horror of true life and the imagination of the some of the most gore loving directors.

8. GET OUT
A revolution in horror starting off seemingly as another ‘guess whose coming for dinner’ slowly dragging you into the depths of this madness. who expected this from Jordan Peele a man known for his comedic timing and fondness of cats.

7. THE MIST
no one likes fog much less when it contains a monster from the mind of horror royalty Stephen King. its grim, creepy and its best not to watch this during the early morning fog this island in the north west corner of northern europe is known for.

6. THE HAUNTING
a week just to sleep. sign me the fuck up. oh the call came from Liam Neeson and the study’s in a creepy ass haunted mansion. Maybe not. Ill just keep going with my lavender pillow spray.

5. RINGU
One of the best films to come out of Japan ever. with its creepy lighting, camera angles that make even the most stoic and unnerved people wince. no matter who remakes it or parodies it (looking at you america) it will always be the best version.

4. 28 DAYS LATER…
I HATE ZOMBIES I HATE ZOMBIES I HATE ZOMBIES. That being said Danny Boyle creates the perfect set up for a zombie movie. A realistic reason as to why the zombies are there and the best shot of the new emerging london skyline. Cillian Murphy provides a genuine look of confusion as he awakes into a strange new world with ‘fast zombies’.

3. THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE
A classic. maybe not as accurate to the Ed Gein story as its wants to be but it takes the main headline grabbing parts of the story and just runs with it. from using real skeletons to the unforgiving dinner sequence its a tale that whilst it may not be as heavy hitting as when your 15 watching horror films for the first time. its still a good one though.
Tumblr media
2. MARTYRS
a story about revenge is normally nowt but a torture porn (thanks saw). But the french do it differently - along with so many other things. theres a child abuse launch pad leading to a deeper look inside the mind of someone damaged and reckless.

1. DAWN OF THE DEAD
the daddy of the zombie film. George A Romero does the genre a solid with this one. even though its a sequel it stands alone as a classic. the idea of being in a locked down mall armed with only what you find as an ever growing zombie hoard descends on you. im just gonna wait for this all to blow over. I STILL HATE ZOMBIES.
