-Clearly a teenage boy who lets emotions build up a lot -Definitely cheats if he’s had enough -If he keeps losing in the same part of the video game and rage quits, it takes him forever to get back into the game - “Ohhhh… I forgot that’s where I let off… fuck it” (quits) -Much better and calmer at playing cards, and generally prefers games were the two of you can talk and he doesn’t have to focus too much

You laid on your bed, scrolling aimlessly through social media, and occasionally glancing at Tate playing a video game he hasn’t played in a while. When you started talking about games, and you told him you had it, he nostalgically reminisced how much he used to play it when he was alive, so you set it up for him. Every few minutes, when a red screen would pop up, Tate would sigh, and with every passing death, his sighs got louder and angrier.

After only maybe half an hour of playing, Tate clearly couldn’t take it anymore, and threw the control towards the floor, before stomping over to shut the console and TV off. The sound made you flinch, and you had never seen Tate angry before. Nor his body language nor face showed his emotions, just his actions, and when he flopped by your side, he looked fine. If somebody had come in right now, they would just see two teenagers laying next to each other.

“Uhhh… you okay?”, you ask, before rolling over to face him. You poke at his chubby cheek as he stares up at the ceiling and tease him. “Sore loser”.

“Shut up, it’s your fault. You reminded me why I wasn’t allowed to play this game for very long”.

“Wanna play something else? Together? We could play Dragon Ball Z?”, you ask quietly, before going back to your childish sing-song teasing. “Be nice, and I’ll even let you win a few times!”

Tate looks over at you and huffs, before sitting up and getting the controllers, “Good thing you’re used to begging me for mercy”

Kit

-Least sore loser out of them all -Always up for a rematch -He’s pleasant even when he does win - “Want a rematch sugar? So you can have another shot at beating me?” - “Ah you were close, you’re getting good” - “You’re a good rival” - “If I lose, you can drag me to that Rom Com you wanted to see” - “If I win, we make more babies” -Pretends to be competitive when he’s playing with the kids - “I would say Team Girls vs Team Boys… but that’s not fair, the two of you don’t even stand a chance, right Tommy?” -If one of the kids beat him, he’d act super dramatically to give them as much satisfaction of winning -Laser tag is 34 years before Kit’s time, but if he played something like that, he’d try to let the kids win

You ran around the garden and chased a giggling Julia. Because of current financial issues, the power was out, but not wanting to worry the children to much, and not wanting them to ask too many questions, you and Kit decided to make the most of the sun and tire them out before it got dark. Kit, being the big kid he is, suggested playing a tag-like game Thomas invented, where you each get three pebbles each, and try to get each other out by throwing them. Gently. Unless you were throwing them at Kit.

Julia started slowing down when she reached the corner of the house, hoping to hide from you, but you were right behind her, making her turn around and burst out in giggles. When the 5-year-old laughed, the only thing you could see was the missing tooth she donated to the tooth fairy last night. Once you circled all around the house, you come back in view of the garden, and see Julia hiding behind Kit.

“That’s cheating!”, he exclaims, trying to run away from her and toss a pebble in her direction, only for her to do it faster. The second Julia’s tiny rock hits Kit’s tummy and bounced, he put his hands over his stomach and held it like a gun wound. He dropped to the floor dramatically, leaving the two little kids to die of laughter, and you walk over to him, Kit peeping open one eye slightly to see if you were watching him, and then stuck his tongue out to play dead. You picked up a stick from the floor and poked at his chest, making Kit chuckle but quickly hide it.

“Is it dead?”, you ask.

Thomas leans in closer to look at his dad on the floor, before Kit opens his eyes and pulls Tommy to the floor with him, rolling over to be on top of him.

“I win!”, Kit announces, before kissing his son on the cheek.

Franken Kyle

-He doesn’t particularly play complicated games, but he isn’t too patient and gets frustrated with himself pretty easily -If on one of his educational games, he messes something up too many times in a row, he’ll shut off the game and throw the tablet on the bed -He’ll avoid even looking at it -If he loses a tickle fight he’ll sit and whine, straddle you and then tickle you until you beg him to stop -Whines even if he loses at rock paper scissors -He likes colouring and drawing, and because it’s good for his motor skills, the two of you made a really simple game together -You drew out a long snake shape on a big piece of paper and drew lines in between for the spaces -Kyle carefully coloured them in with pencil and with a marker you wrote occasional things like ‘Go back two spaces’ or ‘Go forward three spaces’ -Sweet little Ky would roll the dice, and take his time, pushing his little figurine, which was something like a pencil sharpener or a bottle cap, and counted out the spaces -Got super excited if he won, but wouldn’t mind losing -He would insist the two of you keep playing, and you’re only allowed to stop and go to bed if you end on him winning -Sometimes he would try to let you win so that you could keep playing -Whine and pout if you had to stop playing, and how are you meant to say no to him? -You would have to promise you’ll play tomorrow -You’d be able to slowly make more and more complicated games, until eventually he’d be able to play things like checkers or Ludo

Jimmy

-Lowkey a sore loser -If there were loads of different people playing, he would be a lot more friendly -If he lost, he would still be super annoyed, but just wouldn’t show it -But if it was the two of you, he’d be super competitive -The type of person to flip the board game if he was losing -But he’d apologise straight away and pout if you didn’t want to play with him again - “C’mon let’s play again, I’ll be nice this time” - “Loser gets spanked” -Loves playing games like beer pong

James

-Unpleasant loser but also not a pleasant winner -Bitter compliments if you win at cards - “Well done darling, who would have thought with your high school education you were such a poker master” -Only willing to play the same 5 card games, because if you teach him a new board game he is not familiar with and he loses, he’ll claim it’s only because he’s new to the game -Absolutely infuriated if he loses at Monopoly, since he built a hotel after all -Don’t even bother trying to teach him how to play a video game -And of course - “Only amateurs keep score”

Kai

-Kai likes playing video games or board games with literally anybody apart from you -He likes playing with Ozzy because he’s a kid so most of the time Kai can beat him easily -Definitely not the type of person to let the kid win, even if Ozzy is sobbing and Ally asks him to let Ozzy win once in a while - “Winning fairly will feel so much better for him” - “He won’t appreciate success if he doesn’t first taste failure” -Sometimes instead of story time with his troops he’ll play some board games -At first, everybody will keep letting Kai win out of fear -But eventually someone will win, and everybody else will be fearful for them, scared Kai will be angry - “Finally somebody capable, somebody strong, not scared to show their true capabilities” -But if you ask him to play a game with you, he probably won’t -If you eventually beg enough that he will agree to play a game with you, he’ll tell you he’s only playing one -If you win, he’ll be like, “Okay, are you happy now?” - “Finally it’s over” - “I let you win, are you happy?” -But if he wins, he’ll try to get you to play a few more games - “Are you giving up already?” - “Don’t be a sore loser, rise up to the challenge” - “I assumed you wanted to win, not just to play”

Darcy isn’t going to be super obvious or up-front about her feelings at first though

It will be the cliche “we’ve been friends for 10 years and everyone knows we like each other except us” 

Darcy will always have a hand on you. She wants to feel your presence 

subtle touches, little “pinky holding” or her playing with strands of your hair

Her poking any freckles you have when she first discovers them

You’re one of the few people she let’s mess with her hair. Which is a telling sign

“Your hair looks nice Darce” “thanks, (Y/N) did it” “oh worm? 👀” 

She loves having you run your hands through her hair, it soothes her

Sometimes, if you can’t make it to the cave— bad weather, car trouble, etc.— shell come over and you guys watch a movie together

She won’t manipulate you, but she wants you to come to her. She’s had too many bad experiences where she confessed first, and she doesn’t want another one

So when you do finally confess to her she’s all smug and knowing

 Marcella

She’s going to be playful and flirty with you but quick to deny anything the other girls accuse her of

So she’s not going to just blurt it out or recite sonnets for you

She’ll bring you baked goods edibles and take you out to concerts and maybe steal your shoelace to wear on her wrist

Sometimes you’ll have little “sleepovers” and you’ll hangout at the cave. Usually this means sharing a joint and watching her play songs on her guitar

She’s definitely not exclusively playing romantic songs for you

One night she’ll get high and just pour her heart out to you

“And I think you’re one of the coolest people I’ve ever met, and I’ve met a lot of people, babe… And sure, I’m definitely a bit ditzy but I’m not completely stupid! I know you don’t believe me, but I really really like you! I think about you a lot and I hate when you have to leave right before the sun rises. And on nights you can’t hangout with us it’s so boring! We do the same things every night, but you always make them special. I really like you babe… I really really like you…”

She’ll wanna take you out on a little date to one of the small bands playing on the boardwalk and you’ll both dance together and she’ll be real giddy and excited and probably kiss you but it’s really messy and quick because she was just so wrapped up in the music! 

 Michelle

She’s really obvious

Like, staring at you with heart eyes when she first sees you out on the boardwalk

She’ll try to not-so-subtly follow you around. She’s not being creepy, but she just wants to admire your beauty 

She thinks she’ll never see you again

Imagine her surprise when she sees you again! 

“Told you! She probably lives around town” “Shut up Sam!” 

You’ll eventually confront her and ask what her deal is

“Oh! Uh, um, well, I just— I... like... your outfit?...” 

She’s bad at coming up with an alibi

“thanks. I get most of my clothes at the thrift store away from the boardwalk. Wanna join sometime?” “Uh yeah! Sounds good!” 

She’s going to do some dumb things to impress you— racing on her bike, getting more piercings, dressing in lots of leather, offering to buy you food— but you think it’s cute

She’ll follow you around like a lost puppy at times, partially cause she’s new in town

Sam likes you though!

When you and Michelle hangout, you’ve usally got the braincell and you don’t tease Sam for liking comics so much

“No Samantha, I’m not taking you to the comic shop” “Aww Sammy I will!” “Thanks (Y/N)! You’re the best”

Honestly you knew the whole time she liked you! You had moments of doubt but she’s always so obvious about it. Once you even swore she drooled over you

A bit gross, but you were also eating ice cream so…

Visiting her at work! She’s a lifeguard down at the beach! She’s definitely trying to get you visit her ;) and go swim and sunbathe ;) maybe have her “perform cpr” on you ;)

But you’d still have to make the first move if you wanted it to go any further 

 Sebastian 

He’s got this aura of mystery around him

She’s very close to Sebastian and everyone thinks they’re siblings, and they most definitely have the dynamic

“He’s like Darcy. Not necessarily the most obvious but you can tell”

Anyway once he tells you how he feels he’s all red in the face and nervous!! Poor boy

For AoS, it's time can break your heart, have you begging please which, to be entirely 100% honest with you, I completely forgot I wrote in the first place 🤣🙈 It's post-7x10 angst on... that 7x10 and very spoilery death, with some Dousy hurt/comfort. Apparently, Dousy hurt/comfort is the rage, so... that's cool, I suppose.

Most Popular Multichapter Fic: just a few weeks ago, I would have responded with something like, "multichap? Me? As if 😳😅" But now... well, I'm actually posting my first multi-chapter fic later today, so we'll see how that goes!!

Favourite Story You've Written So Far: oh, gosh, that's a really, really hard one!! I've really, really enjoyed almost everything I've written, so picking is going to be very tough cookies xD

For AoS, I think I'm going to go for take my hand, take my whole life too, which is one of the first few things I wrote, but still holds a very special place in my heart, because I felt that it was a fic I could really be proud of, you know? Plus, it made me feel ridiculously soft and shippy-happy throughout the writing process. Plus plus, it has an absolutely stunning banner created by the amazing @ughfitz, which still touches me a lot, because I'd never had such a beautiful banner made before and askjgddfshhdhh it's just perfect.

I'm also very partial to july second, the birthday fic I wrote for @doctorofaos - because Hunter's point of view, it turns out, is ridiculously fun to write, and I had an absolute ball. The whole arc - a surprise birthday party for Daisy, and some team bonding/family fluff - just really works for me, too.

Another one that has to go on this list is hold out your hand, 'cause friends will be friends, my DaisyMack Soulmates BroTP, because that one is my amazing wife @aleksandrachaev's favourite, and it melts my heart so much to hear how much she likes it. 💜

Then lastly, for Spideychelle, my favourite thing I've written is quintessential spideychelle, no contest - it's a Roommates AU and my birthday gift for @eowima, and all the bonding those two dorks do over Lucifer and fandom in general brings me endless delight.

My Aladdin AU, now when did you last let your heart decide, will also always hold a special place in my heart, because it's the first really long thing I wrote. I put a ton of effort into it, and, well, I still think it's kinda fab.

(also I'm so sorry for the relentless self-plug that turned into, oh my God, apparently I'm just that indecisive and love talking that much. I apologise once again)

Fic You Were Nervous To Post: Aubrey, high-five! Because one of the things I was definitely the most freaked out for was that is good, my first-ever Quakerider fic and birthday gift for @acerobbiereyes. The response to that turned out to be overwhelmingly positive, though, and I have even made promises to venture into Quakerider-land again 🥰

I was also a little stressed for we love you, we love you, and we hope you love we too, which was my first-ever polyship fic - Fitzskimmons and cute notes for the fluff bingo - and something I also dedicated to the amazing @bobbimorseisbisexual. Also the formatting for this thing was HELL, and computers and I do not get along, so I was in cold sweats that it wouldn't work and fail on me completely... but, no, it worked, and the wonderful response to it too, very much melted my heart 🥺💖

How You Choose Your Titles: song lyrics. Almost always song lyrics. And if it's not song lyrics, it's a quote of some kind - it just works for me, and I actually find it fun to go hunt for something that works. Maybe I'm weird, but I actually do love it xD

Do You Outline? absolutely, yes - in fact, a great many of the things in my WIPs folder are solely outlines, or even just the beginnings of outlines. I find that outlines are a really good way to save your ideas if you don't have time to write them out properly, so you can come back months later and be all, "what the hell I'm actually so clever." (or, y'know, occasionally, "what the hell can the earth come swallow me up." But let's go with the cleverness 🤣👌)

In Progress:

... I think it's better that we don't talk about my WIPs folder, which, as most people who know anything about me can tell you, is an utter mess, and more than a little insane. (If you don't believe me, check it out here - I bet you do now, right?)

Out of that monstrosity, I'm currently working on numbers 20, 64, 192 and 174, which would be my Skimmons Hallmark Rom-Com, and fics for my three Secret Santas - Spideychelle, Fitzsimmons, and then one for the AoS Secret Santa whose pairing is, in delightfully SHIELD style, classified until the 24th of December.

Then in the very background, I'm also writing some Pipsy, Fitzsimmons and plat!Diper for the fluff bingo yes which I have still not finished I'm awful I know, and I'm going to make my lateness a liiiitle better by passing them of as gifts for my friends. I do love my friends very much, though, so that's more than fair I think 🥺💜

Coming In 2020

Hey guys. I hope you guys enjoyed ringing in the new year. I hope the first couple of days have been going well for you. I am super excited for the coming year. 

I thought it would be nice to put together a “coming up” post where I give you guys a sneak peek at what I hope is coming in 2020.😄

I have gone back and forth with wanting to share summaries like this, but I guess I am taking a leap with humans in 2020 and crossing my fingers for good outcomes. LOL. Also, fair warning, this is a Chris Evans heavy list, I’m sorry.😬

Now, this is just to give you guys an idea where my madness has been taking me for the last year and I guess put out some feelers. All of these have been plotted/mapped {heavily} and written up to an extent. These are just a few of them, in total there are about eight ideas that I’ve been debating. I know, eight new ideas are very ambitious, but I am vowing 2020 to be a hyper-productive year for me.

No distractions mean no distractions, especially from a guy. It doesn’t matter how hot, talented, charming, rich, and likable he is. I have… so many emotions about this. I’m so happy for my precious baby… he did so good and I love him. I’m just so happy with this turn of events. Also I just really love Shinsou so much, like I could rant and rave about him for years on end because of how much I love him. Holy shit...

🐱They were hanging out in the 1-C dorms with a couple of their friends, totally unaware of the joyous news they were about to receive.

🐱Suddenly, Shinsou bursts into the dorm with a huge smile on his face. He excitedly dragged them to their dorm room and sat them down.

🐱They were really weirded out, they’d never seen Shinsou so… alive.

“Uh… Shinsou, what’s… what’s goin-“

“I got in!”

“What do yo-“

“I’m in the hero course as of next year! I made it!”

🐱Oh. Oh… Oh! That makes sense! …wait… hoLY SHIT HE DID IT! They jumped up into his arms squealing in excitement. They knew how hard he worked to get into the hero course and they were so proud of him.

🐱”We have to celebrate! What do you wanna do, we’ll do anything you want!” And that they did… within reason because they’re both only broke high school students.

🐱So as broke high school students they decided that, since it’s Shinsou, a cat cafe was was a good idea. Shinsou was covered in cats and could barely eat anything with all the fluffy affection he was getting.

🐱It was really adorable seeing him covered in cats, trying to pet all of them at once and still drink his coffee. They couldn’t help but take, like, 50 pictures while laughing loudly at his misfortune. (Shinsou was not a very happy kitty.)

🐱After both of them took a very long and almost cliche romantic walk together. They held hands and joked around, being uncharacteristically affectionate… but they were happy, so give them a break, yeah?

🐱When they got home, they made their way up to his dorm room with snacks and a bunch of movies they got while they were out. They ranged from horror to comedy to cheesy romance to fucking Disney. Nothing was stopping them from watching Moana 10 times in a row.

🐱They cuddled in the nest of pillows and blankets, Shinsou sneaking a kiss or a playful grab here in there and getting scolded for it. They joked around and made bets on what stereotypes were going to show up in the next horrible rom-com they watched.

🐱They were happy together that night, not a care in the world as they celebrated his success.

🐱From then on, Shinsou’s love showed up to almost every one of his training sessions and cheered him on from the sidelines. Sometimes, if they were feeling especially confident, they would join in themselves.

🐱Shinsou feels like the luckiest man alive to be with such a sweet and loving and supportive person like them.

5 - what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?

okay, well, I don’t know if this counts because the story has been written, edited, and queried, but the longest plot bunny i ever held onto would be one of my OG ideas (which I’m not gonna go into because I haven’t settled on how I feel about sharing those here yet). But basically, first got the idea in 2003/4, poked at it for a bit, totally reworked it for my senior thesis in 2010, and then spent the next 5 years working on it. Finished October 2015. I queried 16 agents, only got one response (a request for the full manuscript, which they ultimately thought needed more work – but they were extremely nice and gave me concrit, which a lot of places don’t even do, they just reject you). Clearly they think it needs more work! So does it count as finished? (In all honesty, I suppose the ending could be tightened up a bit. I’d been working on the idea for almost 12 years at that point, I wanted it to move.) 

but FIC wise? which is probably more interesting to people. Well, unfortunately (even after some digging) it seems like the answer is “How to Lose a Spy in 10 Days,” which I already recently discussed on that question meme I answered the other day. I know I had the idea before the Rebelcaptain Rom Com Challenge was announced in June 2017 and I knew it would be perfect for that, so as far as I can remember that’s my oldest rebelcaptain idea that hasn’t yet been written.

But other long-lasting plotbunnies, all from spring/summary 2017, would  include the You’ve Got Mail AU I’m currently working on, a 10 Things I Hate About You … thing (wasn’t gonna be a fic, probably a gifset with a summary beneath it), a post-war fic (my thoughts on what Jyn & Cassian do after the war), and of course the ASoIaF AU, which I attempted for NaNoWriMo in 2017 and then I got sick instead.

EDIT: I just found my original “Idea Brainstorm” doc (which is a running doc, I move ideas off of it and into their own file when I start working on them)! Using version history (thank you google docs), I was able to look at the first things I ever wrote. On February 27, 2017, I started making notes for an Anastasia AU (Ha, classic me) and the How to Lose a Spy in 10 Days AU (I was incredibly excited about the title lol). The 10 Things I Hate About You Idea was added literally the next day. So, there you go.

9 - what’s a series or franchise you secretly or not so secretly think you’d be, like, a REALLY good writers for if they’d stop being cowards and hire you already?

WELL, (a) unfortunately, I would never legitimately think so highly of myself as a good writer for anything actually legit due to low-self-esteem issues, but (b) I do regularly think that I could have improved the writing in the SW sequel trilogy and GOT (the show, specifically). Then again, I honestly think that a lot of people in fandom could be better writers than the producers on those, so? Does it count? 

15 - in an ideal world where you’re already super successful and published, would you want to see a tv or movie adaptation of your work? why or why not?

ohhhh man, yes, i daydream regularly about this, of course. The idea I mentioned above I see more in movie format, but I have other original ideas that would fit a tv format better. I think different formats fit different ideas. Movies are good for shorter ideas, TV better for long adaptations. But nowadays I generally enjoy TV format better. There’s more time there for character development and world-building; these days, movies feel too rushed, like they’re trying to jam too much into them. For a movie to be really good, it’s got to be super polished and efficient at doing many things (setting up the premise, character building, world building, plot, etc etc); it’s very difficult.

The rough draft is completely finished.

There are fifteen chapters total.

Some of these chapters are really rough and need a lot of editing.

Okay maybe not a lot but definitely some editin.

I plan to post a chapter every other week hopefully on Mondays.

But honestly idk if I’ll keep track of which Mondays I’ve posted a chapter and which I haven’t unless I have something to alternate them with.

Luisa and the Fox

The second draft is completely finished.

It’s off with my betas.

I’ve mostly let it lie fallow for the past month-ish (or maybe only a couple of weeks idk how long it’s been friends), which means I should be able to come at it with new eyes, too.

There are five chapters total.

However, I do currently plan to have a second connected fic that’s half a direct follow-up and half I just want Luisa and the Fox fluff.

Stuff that didn’t really fit into the fic proper (like the freckles scene).

I plan to post a chapter every other week on also hopefully on Mondays.

The plan is to alternate these with Carla chapter updates, but right now I’m waiting on input from at least one of my betas before posting another chapter.

This may change in the future because I’ve been getting antsy for...a lot of reasons.

In-Progress Posted JTV Fics (by which I mean I don’t have a completed draft):

If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now

Now that Carla’s rough draft is finished, polls have said to focus on this one.

These chapters are harder, so hoping to do one a month.

But this really depends on how well the chapter is going - y’all probably noticed a longer wait between chapters 7 and 8 because group therapy was a barrier.

Unlike Carla and Luisa and the Fox, this fic doesn’t really have a chapter-by-chapter plan (and even Carla didn’t until those last chapters...mostly).

So I kind of know what I want to happen through the course of the fic and the order of things but sometimes more set-up is required than just jumping around (or maybe it’s not but I feel like it is).

I have no idea how many chapters are left.

At least seventeen, if my current projections are correct, and that’s dealing with stuff that I feel like needs to be in separate chapters (although I may change my mind on that later), not even necessarily including stuff that I want to sprinkle in among other things (Rose meeting with her therapist, scattered Susanna stuff, etc.), which means it might be longer, it might not be.

And like - even with those seventeen - I feel like some of them definitely warrant some cool-down time between or something like that, so guesstimates would project more than that.

Jane: The Real Story

This was second on the polls as far as things y’all wanted me to focus on.

I don’t plan to schedule updates on this one.  They may just happen when they happen.

These tend to be less intensive than the IYLHYBHN chapters, and they may fill in the every other week on Mondays slot when Carla is posted, but don’t hold me to that because I would prefer these to be unscheduled.

I also have no idea how many chapters are left.

I do plan on at least getting into s2 and s3 and potentially dealing with some of the stuff happening in s5 - like the Michael has amnesia! bit because that was part of the original post - but this is subject to change.

Mainly I have plans for that Michael bit and then dealing with Susanna and why Luisa and Rose are gone for a while.

And if this turns into Jane quit telling Mateo lies! then we...need an older Mateo.

I don’t know where/when I plan to end this.

This one is super flexible and I intend to leave it being flexible because I like having it that way.

The Adventures of Rose, the Baker’s Daughter

I like writing fairy tales don’t judge me.

This may jump into the every other week on Mondays slot when Luisa and the Fox is posted, but I may just start immediately into the other Luisa and the Fox fic that I mentioned instead.  Not sure on that yet.

I don’t know how many chapters are left.

There are at least seven, but just as with IYLHYBHN, that’s stuff I feel should be segmented into chapters and does not include other stuff that might happen between those chapters (like, for instance, I have a couple of general plot point chapters for later but don’t know all of the interconnected stuff).  In this case, I’d expect more than seven chapters.  If I finish it.  Y’all don’t seem too keen on this one.

There’s a lot of uncertains on this one, too, but I think that’s okay because y’all don’t seem too excited for it.

Everything’s Coming Up Rose’s

90s rom-com au that no one really asked for but I’m over 17k deep into writing so you’ll probably get it anyway.

I mean.  Technically it was fourth on stuff y’all wanted me to focus on, actually ahead of The Adventures of Rose, sooooooooo.  Y’all want it but when it comes down to only getting one option on things, you don’t.

And you certainly don’t want it more than any of the other proposed aus.

Looking at maybe twelve? chapters.

Already wrote the first two and started the third, as well as having a chunk of chapter...7?? written and a bit that maybe shows up in chapter...8?? and another bit that might show up...in one of the earlier chapters maybe but I’m not sure where to put it yet.

The first two chapters are super rough but I like them, and I like this story.  A lot.  Which is why it kind of hangs out and still shows up on polls.

AND LIKE.  I ACTUALLY KNOW THE WHOLE PLOT.  DO YOU KNOW HOW RARE THAT IS.

I don’t know when I’ll start posting this one, and since y’all’ve told me y’all want me to focus on other fics in-progress and other aus, this should be lower on my totem pole but.  I like it.  So it’s not.

Luisa and the Fox: Shenanigans

Continuation of Luisa and the Fox.

No set number of chapters.

This is here for me to have more with these characters because I like them and there was more I wanted to write with them (originally just the freckles scene, but there’s starting to be some other stuff that I kind of have hanging around in my head that I might do) that didn’t really fit into the original story.

Don’t plan on posting these until after Luisa and the Fox is posted for obvious reasons, and this may fall into the every other Mondays slot once Luisa and the Fox is done.  I haven’t decided yet.

Brainstorming JTV Fics (by which I mean they’re primarily in the brainstorming stage but they may have a little bit written for them):

Harry Potter AU

The most requested AU on the poll.

Currently projected to have seven multi-chapter books.

Currently planned to be set concurrent with the original series.

Which means it may be more a crossover than an AU.  Ish.

I’ve been rereading the original series so as to get a better idea of how things fit together (and the anti-Slytherin stuff and commentary is so big and I don’t think it stops because even if you bring up Snape it’s in context of we sorted him too soon and he should’ve been in Gryffindor so like.  THOUGHTS).

This looks like it will be really long if I keep with this idea and write the whole thing.

Please don’t expect this to be finished quickly.

Please expect that I will likely take breaks to write other things.

Focus is on Clara as the viewpoint character.

I’ve made changes to birth years so that Clara and Luisa are born in the same year.

This does put Luisa a year higher in school than Clara, but since they’re in different houses anyway, this doesn’t really present a problem.

I might be overthinking this.

I’ve started outlining the first book.

I paused at chapter twelve because still figuring out the overarching series plot so the first book plot should tie into that.

I do have a general idea of character arcs for Clara/Rose and Luisa over the series and how that plays into what is discovered by the original trio over the series.

I also have a good idea of what happens in the final battle.  It’s the externals that’s causing me more problems than the character-character and internals.

I’ve started the first chapter of the first book, but it’s really rough and probably will have a lot of changes.

Hallmark Holiday Special

The second most requested AU on the poll.

Currently I have a general idea of which version I want to go with.

Those of you who were around in November/December know that there were two variations I was playing with.  A lot of aspects of those got retooled and put into Everything’s Coming Up Rose’s - and I mean a lot of aspects of both because I took the Rose from one and the Luisa from the other and meshed those together.  However, this means I can take the one that plays the Hallmark tropes straight and not worry about the complications I’d originally planned for that because they come up somewhere else, which. lets me play it more straight.

Straight, hah.

Maybe five chapters?

Off the top of my head thinking about where the chapters would break?

Sounds about right?

Because they’re, like, 1.5hr shows with commercial breaks every fifteen minutes, but each commercial break is like five minutes or more, so there’s like.  five segments, right?  Something like that?  My math on this is probably wrong but.  five segments?  Maybe?

I could probably jump back into writing this (I did start this somewhere in November/December) but I think I want to retool the beginning for other stuff that I think might mesh better than what I initially did.  And it needed to be edited and I should rewrite the beginning anyway, so.

This is just backburner as far as writing because do you see all of the other stuff?

Also there’s -- just because I know what needs to happen in each chapter doesn’t mean I actually have concrete plot for each chapter and I kind of want to know the complication before I jump into writing so I can make sure to get that set up properly soooooooooo we’ll see.

The hope is that I have this set and ready to post in July.

Primarily because the idea of Christmas in July makes me happy.

--and you know what.  There are five Mondays in July.  I could just have this be what I update weekly in July if there are actually five chapters.

University AU

Tied for third most requested AU with canon-compliant soulmate AU, which is below.

Since the poll for prof/prof or student/student is deadlocked at a tie, I plan to go with prof/prof.

To counterbalance the HP AU, which is a really long extended student/student AU.  With a whole bunch of other stuff.

I may do a student/student university AU later, but probably not.

My most recent ideas for the student/student university AU combines with the non-canon-compliant soulmate AU and hit some of the same points that IYLHYBHN does but in a different way with different variations.  Ish.  So because I still have general ideas for that, maybe, maybe not.  Unsure.

This is currently being brainstormed.

I have a general idea for how to start this off.

So, like, the first two chapters, maybe?  Or, like, a prologue and the first chapter?

I know how I want Rose and Luisa to meet, which would be the second chapter or...not the prologue.

I have a general idea as far as Luisa’s character.

I have less on Rose as far as concrete aspects, but I may get there.

I might jump into this one before the Hallmark Holiday Special just because it’s lingering in that place where you feel like you could be starting off on writing something and it’s there sort of thing?

Idk, it feels like less fluff than the HHS, which still needs some plot straightened out before I feel completely comfortable jumping back into it.

Canon-Compliant Soulmate AU

Tied for third most requested AU with university AU (see above).

I’m not focusing on this right now.

I know people like the one-shot and want a continuation of that, which is why this was on the poll.

I like the one-shot as a one-shot.  I think it is complete as a one-shot.  I don’t think expanding on that one will actually make it any better.

Which is why, if I revisited the soulmate timer idea, I’d planned on doing it differently and ended up combining it with the university student/student AU idea.

I do not plan on continuing the one-shot but instead want to deal with other soulmate AU tropes if I do another soulmate AU.

Given that I’d rather play with other soulmate AU tropes, I want to look through general ideas.  Once one of those stands out to me as something that could mesh better in the long form for something canon-compliant, I can start better brainstorming.

So I guess this is less in the brainstorming stage and more in the idea collecting stage.

I hang out in the RPC, so I should be able to find one of those soulmate tropes posts at some point.  And if not, you have all these other things above to look forward to that are getting more focus than this is.

This, of course, doesn’t include any one-shot ideas or the other aus I listed on that poll (I still really want to do the SG/Tick/JTV crossover because I’ve got ideas for that and how that would work), nor does it include any non-JTV fics I may or may not be writing/editing/etc.

So, basically, lots of content if I can get my butt sat down to write it.  We’ll see how it goes because, honestly, looking at all of this is intimidating, and like, I’m excited for...most of these projects but.  It’s a lot.  It’s a lot.

But I just wanted to update y’all on current projections for these.

“No, you must be mistaken, this isn’t for me…” A pyjama clad (y/n) stood in the lobby of the Avengers compound upstate, a FedEx guy standing impatiently in front of her as various workers watched them curiously. It’s not every day you saw an official Avenger having a disagreement with a postal guy in her pyjamas while in the lobby.  

“Ma’am is your name (y/n) (y/l/n)?”

“Well… yes…”

“Then this is yours.” The delivery guy having had enough of her, shoves the gift into her chest and walks away muttering a ‘Merry Christmas’.

Looking around (y/n) saw people giving her weird stares at her state, muttering a quick ‘hello’ to some familiar employees before quickly moving over to the Avengers personal elevator.

Standing with her head down tiredly and waiting for her level, (y/n) couldn’t help but think, who could send her such a thing. She never got mail, barely any of the Avengers do because who would send them magazines or letters? Walmart?

“Oh, hey Captain America, thought you’d like to know about our $4.99 deal on apricots-not.” She muttered but her head shot up when she heard the elevator prematurely ding and open its doors. In front of her was certainly a sight. Loki stood, drying his face with a towel, in his workout clothes. Some part of her reminded her not to stare but a quick glance at his figure had her gasping and looking away. Entering the elevator Loki smiled at (Y/n) and greeted her.

“You’re awfully happily today, finally getting into the Christmas spirit?”

“Thor just mentioned something to me, nothing important. Tell me, what’s in that box of yours? Clothes, toys… a life perhaps?”

“Oh, Loki you’re killing me.” (y/n) mockingly laughed exiting at her level but not before turning around to serve him a quick quip. “Of course, you’d know nothing about that last one, would you Loki dearest?”

The door inevitably closing before he could reply, leaving (y/n) with a feeling of success. Smugly smiling, she turned around and seemed to run straight into a solid mass. Also, known as Bucky Barnes.

“Oh, I’m so sorry Buck. I didn’t see you there!”

“Busy flirting with your boyfriend?” He smirked.

“Wh-what- I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Bucky only laughed following behind (y/n) as she made her way to the couch and sat down not-so-gracefully.

“So, what’s with the uhh… box? New toys?”

“No, my knives aren’t due to arrive for another two weeks, so I’m kind of suspicious of this one.” Bucky smiled lightly as (y/n) watched his happy façade.

Opening the box (y/n) found ten books all by her favourite author and all collector’s editions. “What…” Her eyes widened she gasped, seeing a limited and very rare book sitting in the bottom. “Who would buy this for me?”

“Looks like you got yourself a secret Santa there (y/n).” Looking over at a relaxed Barnes, she suddenly got suspicious. “It’s not you, is it Barnes?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about…” Bucky suddenly shot off the couch as if it had just burned him, muttering something about Steve asking him about training.

As (y/n) stared after a certain super soldier, (y/n) shook her head, it certainly wasn’t him. However, now alone she allowed the heat to crawl up her cheeks as she read the small note on the inside of the rare book.

‘Love your Secret Santa.’

The shadow just around the corner disappearing with a smirk.

For twelve days, (y/n) received a gift, all just as thoughtful as the last. She couldn’t narrow it down as each person on her team acted as suspicious as the next.

What she did notice being not-so-subtle is the number of mistletoes appearing everywhere. Walking to breakfast with Steve was when one of the first times she noticed it. “Ah ah ah!” A loud voice appeared from the kitchen as everyone turned towards the pair, which stops confusedly.

“You two have to kiss!” Sam pointed above your heads and sitting there was a sneaky green plant. “It’s tradition, c’mon!” 

Everyone grinned in apprehension as Steve and yourself turned to each other with slight blushes on your cheeks. Making eye contact with everyone, including Loki whose face had turned a shade of red for different reasons. Catching her look, Loki quickly schooled his expression and returned to his breakfast.

Looking up to the super soldier (y/n) noticed his slightly hesitant gaze, she decided to go for it; especially if s a certain someone was getting jealous for it. (Y/n)’s hand came up around Steve’s neck as both leaned towards each other, lips slightly brushing before she leaned in and gave him a quick peck. The Avengers gave a quick whoop before returning to their breakfast.

Deciding to take the seat between Loki and Bucky, she began to dig into her breakfast. “So (y/n) figured out who this secret admirer is yet?” A groan left (y/n) as she muttered a “no.”

Sliding her breakfast away from herself, (y/n) bought out today’s delivery, a solid red ruby in a gold band. “Holy shit is that real?” Natasha asked, grabbing her hand to get a closer look. “Well, it’s not plastic so he/she is already doing better than my last boyfriend.” Hearing a chocked laugh, (y/n) turned her head towards Thor. “You alright Thor?”

Natasha’s eyes widened, “wait, who else do we know whose colours are red?” Pointing towards Thor, he choked once again. When he finally came around he saw (y/n) giggling to herself. “As beautiful as you are Lady (y/n), my heart does belong to another.”

“I know Thor.” (y/n) smiled.

Later in the day, (y/n) was in the gym, seemingly preparing for her next mission with Loki. As they practised their hand to hand (y/n) couldn’t help but feel at peace around Loki, even if at current moment he was trying to beat her up. Huffing out a breath as Loki dropped her to the ground, him following and holding her arms above her head. “Well Mr Laufeyson, it seems you’ve finally bested me.” Smiling up at him, (y/n) noticed his unfocused gaze.

“Loki?” Both seemingly forgot about the others in the gym. “You okay?”

Loki’s eyes finally blinked as he pushed himself off her and held out a hand. “Yes. Are we still planning on finishing those screenings you call cartoons?”

(Y/n) huffed a laugh grabbing her bag and bottle, taking a long swig before replying. “Yeah, sure thing Loki. I just need to shower.” Both moved towards the door, Loki getting more pumped the closer they came. (Y/n) put it down to needing to pee or excitement over the new Disney movie they’re going to watch. Noticing him missing something (Y/n) stopped in the door slightly in front of him. “Wait, Loki, you forgot your bag.”

“Oh right, I’ll be a quick second if you wouldn’t mind just staying right there as you are. Don’t move.” (y/n) frowned at his odd behaviour but listening to him anyways. “Hey (y/n), what are you up to?” Jumping but remaining in her position, (y/n) found Bucky Barnes standing and leaning against the doorframe opposite to her.

“Aha! You two have to kiss!” Clint laughed from the weights area, the attention of a few others came upon you. Looking up (y/n) spotted the green shit above her. “Why the shit is it always me?” (y/n) whispered, looking over at the soldier. “Well, what do you say Sergeant?” But he was already there, nose to nose, Bucky leant down and captured her lips in a shockingly brilliant kiss. Her arms came around his neck as Bucky slightly dipped her, the kiss becoming somewhat deep.

When he brought her back up to stand (y/n) released him and fixed her shirt and hair. “Well Barnes, 95 years didn’t seem to affect your kissing ability.” He heartily laughed before a giant shove in the form of Loki nearly pushed him over. The God already storming down the hallway, holding his bag. “What the hell was that about?” (y/n) muttered. “You’re so blind (y/n) …” Bucky muttered softly down to her, moving into the gym leaving her standing there staring down the now empty hall. Eyes widening, she’d seen so many rom-coms that had that exact phrase. A plan finally forming in her head as she made her way to her room smirking, “blind indeed…”

By Christmas Eve three days later, (y/n) had been caught by everyone under the mistletoe, even Nat who wasn’t shy to give her a big smooch. Sitting around a T.V as some Christmas film played, as the Avengers cuddled up in various blankets and pillows, (y/n) had never felt more at home. Looking around she admired each sleepy team members face before realising there was one missing. Standing up, (y/n) made her way to his room, softly knocking, a soft ‘come in’ following. Walking in slowly she made her way to his lounge where he sat a book in his lap.

“You okay Loki?”

He didn’t look up but managed a simple, “yes.” Sitting down next to him, so close their thighs were touching, (y/n) leaned over his shoulder to see what he was reading. It was a Norse mythology book and he was specifically reading the section on himself. “You conceited little shit.” (y/n) laughed.

“It’s curious, the stories mortals have conceived about myself.”

“So, you didn’t really seduce and sleep with a male horse as a female horse yourself to save Asgard? Damn.”

His tensed body and hesitant pause caused (y/n) to break out into laughter. “Oh, my god! Loki!” Her head fell on his shoulder as he looked anywhere but her.

Seeing him somewhat humiliated, (y/n) instantly felt bad. Even if they were at odds sometimes, she was probably closest with Loki and vice versa. Both had quite a lot in common, such as an appreciation for literature, grace and beauty. Though (y/n) wasn’t graceful or a beautiful maiden that could take your breath away with one look, she appreciated both.

Settling down, (y/n) wrapped her arms around one of his and leaned into his side. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to embarrass you, Loki.” He melted instantly and (y/n) knew he would. It was as if he couldn’t refuse her. “It’s alright.” Smiling lightly, Loki returned to his reading, comforted by her presence.

“Hey, Loki?”

“Yes, love?”

“Can you read to me?”

“It seems though, through multiple texts, Loki is depicted to always be on this side of the Aesir, however,…”

As he read through his histories and myths, (y/n) drifted off to sleep there on his shoulder. The last words she heard were “-and he was bound by Odin in a cave, with the snake dripping it venom onto Loki’s bare chest…”

The next morning when (y/n) woke she was back in her room, some part of her wondering if it was just a dream. Laying on her back and staring at the roof, (y/n) recalled the way her hands grabbed onto his arm, sometimes her fingertips would brush the skin on his forearm which always seemed to be covered. The smooth deep way his voice wrapped their ways around each word, oh yes, he definitely had a silver tongue.

The thought of what day it was drifted through her mind as she remembered a certain plan to take place upon today. After completing her bathroom duties, (y/n) headed out for Christmas breakfast to see everyone already sitting there, besides three people. Thor, Loki, and Vision. Remaining in the doorway, she waited. “Hey (y/n), aren’t you going downstairs to receive your daily gift from lover-boy?” Tony asked, smirking.

“No, I think I’ll just wait for him right here.”

“Ahh, finally figured out who it was?” Bucky smirked, sipping his coffee while leaning on the bench. “Yes, I believe so.” Looking down shyly, (y/n) waited and waited. She waited an hour before realising Loki wasn’t coming out. As an early riser, if he wasn’t out of his room by now, he wasn’t going to be seen the whole day, ruining (y/n)’s plans.

Seeing Vision finally entering, (y/n) decided to ask. “Has anyone seen Loki this morning?”

“Yes, I had just escorted him and Thor to the leaving pad. Apparently, there’s an emergency on Asgard.” Widening her eyes, she didn’t want to miss this opportunity with him, what if he decided to stay in Asgard? She’d never see him again. There were exclamations from all the Avengers about why Vision didn’t come get them before they left as (y/n) stood staring not knowing how to react.

‘Go to him.’ A voice prompted. Tilting her head at the familiar voice, catching mischievous eyes of a Sokovian, (y/n) jumped ripping the stupid plant from the roof before taking off in a sprint. The Avengers had built a special place where Thor and Loki to go to and from Asgard without scarring the lawn every time. 

 “Get out of my way!” (y/n) yelled to the workers, who had decided to spend their Christmas in the building, them moving quickly out of the frazzled Avengers way. She had to make it if she missed him there didn’t seem to ever be another chance to get her feelings across. 

Seeing the two brothers standing, Thor about to raise his hammer made (y/n) scream, “LOKI!” If they were honest, the scream scared the devil out of them. Both pausing before Loki jogged to meet (y/n) half way. “(y/n), what’s wrong?”

“Well, first of all- Merry Christmas, you asshole! And secondly-” She shoved the now falling apart plant in his chest. Looking down at the plant in his chest, recognising it and looking up at (y/n) with still confused eyes. “I know it was you, the whole time and you never told me.”

Loki’s face suddenly twisted, his negative state of mind taking the forefront. “Is it because I’m the last one left? Because there were no other mortals left on your list and you’re so desperate that you’ll turn to your last resorts. The monster-”

A hand suddenly covered his mouth, “Loki as much as I love your voice, can you shut up?”

He slightly nodded, but she didn’t move her hand needing to get this out. “I didn’t think of you last, I knew by that day in the gym. Someone said something to me and… Loki I’ve been so blind to you but it really couldn’t be anyone else but you.” Finally, (y/n) released his mouth, his eyebrows drawn.

“You’ve known for five days? You never said anything?”

“Well I had a plan but you sort of killed it… bastard.” Loki scoffed a laugh, “you have a foul mouth (y/n) …” “Oh, please you secretly enjoy it.”

Loki held up the harsh crushed plant in question. “And what’s this for?”

(Y/n) quickly stepped forward, her heart skipping in a panic at seeing Thor in the corner of her eye approach them to take Loki, there was an emergency on Asgard after all. “Loki, I can’t give you anything worth 3 weeks’ worth of gifts but I can give you this.”

“A plant?”His raised eyebrows gave the signal that he was seriously re-considering who he chose to fall in love with.

“No!” (y/n) laughed swiping the plant from him. “It was meant to be symbolic but shit nevermind... I meant myself.”

Loki paused, considering (y/n)’s eyes as she continued to step forward until they were chest to chest. Lightly (y/n) grabbed one of his hands and intertwined their fingers and Loki let her. In the corner of her eye (y/n) knew it was about a minute before Thor reached them. She had limited time. (Y/n) held it above them and it was then Loki understood her intentions. “I refuse to kiss you under that stupid plant.”

“You know they are sacred in folklore, right? Considered to bestow life and fertility; a protection against poison all that cute shit and I mean you were the one to plant them all over the building, it’s why you were so frustrated that everyone was seemingly catching me under there... but you.”

A slight tinge of red adorned his cheeks and made (y/n) laugh. Seeing Thor was a mere three steps away from them, she decided to just go for it. Throwing away the plant, “I hated that stupid plant anyways.” (y/n) Leaned up on her tiptoes and brought her hands to Loki’s face, bringing their lips together.

Instantly he reacted, hands holding onto her hips; pulling her into him more. Pulling lightly on his hair (y/n) thought she heard a gasp as she let her tongue lightly touch his own. Pulling away slowly, (y/n) pressed her forehead to Loki’s. Neither releasing their hold on the other.

A cough broke them out of their little daydream. “I’m glad this is finally happening, so Loki can stop whining and moping about you, Lady (y/n), but there really is an emergency.”

Looking back to Loki, she gave him a quick peck, once again leaning her forehead on his. “Come back to me?” (y/n) asked meekly.

“Always. You owe me for all my gifts, don’t you?” Loki initiated the kiss as she laughed lightly, leaning down so their lips could meet again. 

It was like the whole world had come together, two puzzle pieces to make one masterpiece. Carefully he released her from his hold, twisting a piece of her hair before stepping away.

Then… he left, a great blast of the rainbow bridge and there was nobody left there but (y/n) with the memory of his lips on hers and the promise to return.

varchie fanfiction masterlist

Hey people! I’ve been getting a lot of anons asking me for recommendations on Archie/Veronica fanfiction and I feel you, the struggle is real - our tag in AO3 is filled with Bughead!centric fanfics that have us as a background pairing. I’ve read some good ones and I’m happy to share, but I’ll also make a sort of… rant kind of thing in this post. Everything (links and rant) is under the cut.

Despite being a little less popular than other ships in the fandom, there are not so many ArchieRonnie fanfics out there because the readers don’t engage enough - myself included. You’ve been engaging with me when I post Lake Michigan and this is definitely fueling me to write more and faster, and I think it’s sad when I see some good fics out there with 1 or 2 comments, and we need to get better on commenting and reviewing them.

And I mean really commenting and reviewing, not only “pls update”, which is nice and all, but it doesn’t… I don’t know, it doesn’t excite us authors so much. When you read a fic, really comment on it, tell the author your favorite parts, ask them questions about the fic and the writer's process, engage (like you’ve been doing with me and LM) and I am sure more authors will pop and more fics will be written. I’m making a commitment to myself to engage more with the fics I’ve read and I hope you can do that too!

Of course, no one needs to feel obligated to review something if they’re not comfortable doing so, but it’s really good for us authors, it makes us produce more and it makes you have more material to read.

The whole fic is great - but the Varchie parts are even greater, if that’s possible. It’s definitely one of my favorite Varchie fics ever.

Archie's waited four years for a girl to say the L word but she can't OR a fun, dramatic AU where the gang lives in LA and Veronica has deep-seated issues. Definitely worth it!

This Month On The Farm: December 2020

  And just like that December is over.  Happy new year to all of you!  2020 was a bit of a crazy ride but all-in-all, for us, it was quite alright.  While we didn't have a great year financially, we really can't complain.  We learned that we could tighten our already tight financial belt even more.  With that it ensured our bills are paid, we have food in our pantry and freezers, the animals are very well taken care of, our business survived, and we had more time to spend on things we weren't finding time to get done in previous years.  

Please know that I am not trying to be insensitive to those who had tragic outcomes in 2020, rather, we are trying to focus on what went well for us.  On that same note I am super grateful we had made the decision not to move our business off of our farm so our overhead was limited.  We had struggled with that decision since we started the business and just about a year and a half ago made a final decision that we would not grow the business any larger than what we could handle ourselves in the space we've got.

Well, Jay had been complaining that it didn't feel like Christmas a couple of weeks prior.  He said that because we didn't have snow he just wasn't feeling it.  Sooooo....I blame him completely for the 3 feet that were dumped on us shortly before the big day.  Yup - he is the one you can blame as well if you'd like.  It took a full 2 days to complete our snow removal - paths, deck, porches, and roofs and, since he does most of it, he was exhausted by the time it was done.  Of course he didn't much appreciate my singing of Christmas songs as we suited up to head outside for each round of shoveling or snow blowing.  Clearly he doesn't always appreciate my enthusiasm or talents.

Christmas was quiet, as it was just the two of us and the critters, so I made some special meals and treats to celebrate the day.  We basked in the hum and warmth of the pellet stove, binge watched the new season of Virgin River on Netflix, drank mugs of hot cocoa with extra marshmallows, and enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing day together.

And then Saturday I deemed a "no cook" day.  We had simple breakfasts, leftovers for lunch, and frozen pizza for dinner.  I did throw chicken wings in the air fryer for Jay's dinner as well, but it's no more difficult then throwing frozen pizza in the oven.  It was perfect.

Oliver & Jackson -  Let's start with updates on Mr. Oliver.  We took him to his consultation for alternative treatments to help keep him comfortable with his multiple herniated discs.  First, let me tell you that he had to finish up a round of a steroids in December and I am SO HAPPY it's over.  My goodness that boy was constantly starving!!  Steroids increase hunger and thirst and if he wasn't ravishingly hungry he was drinking a ton.  My day was spent feeding him, filling up his water bowl, and taking him out to go to the bathroom.  Repeat.  I also decided after the first morning of his poor bladder being so incredibly full he was clearly uncomfortable, that I would get up at 2a.m. every night to take him out to pee.  I did this until that darned steroid was out of his system.  I felt so bad for him.  He absolutely will not go potty in the house so he holds it despite the discomfort it causes.

His doctor decided that acupuncture and laser therapy were not necessary as of yet, so we purchased a therapy loop that she recommended to give him electromagnetic therapy at home.  She's hoping this will help keep the inflammation down for a while.  Eventually we will add in the other 2 therapies when needed.  He also has some stretches we do daily to keep his little body limber. 

He is not allowed to run, jump, etc. and we are keeping his walking to a minimum which is what the remainder of his life will be.  He is happy, seems to feel pretty good (we have to hold him back from trying to run, jump, etc.), and takes nice long naps so all seems to be well at the moment.  He will turn 11 in January and I think he's definitely feeling his age.

And then there's Jackson.  Actually, he's doing well.  He's the same - bratty but handsome, and is still loving his new routine of going to bed in his very own bedroom.  He LOVES taking his Rescue Remedy every night.  I have no idea why.  I do have to make sure the room is always "Jack-proofed" because he gets into anything and everything during his 7-8 hours of alone time.

In The Coop - We have EGGS!!!!  Jay is so happy.  Although we aren't getting many, at least we are getting an egg or two each day as of a week ago.  He's still rationing his use since he's not fully confident we will get them daily, but that will change soon I'm sure.

The Coop Girls are doing well.  They dislike the colder temps and absolutely detest that beautiful white snow.  When we leave their coop open they get so excited to run out and that lasts all of about 3 minutes.  Once they realize that there is snow everywhere except for their coop they return to their outdoor coop.  There's usually a lot of chatter after this is attempted each morning.  I suspect it's a bit of disappointment being shared amongst the flock.

Whole Wheat Honey Oat Bread

In The Kitchen - I've been making this recipe for Whole Wheat Honey Oat Bread (by King Arthur Flour) and we've been enjoying it.  If you happen to have any maple sugar lying around it is perfect in this bread.  I substitute out most of the white a/p flour with white whole wheat flour but other then that I follow the recipe exactly.  It's a fairly dense, sweet, and moist loaf that is perfect for morning toast or a sandwich where a slightly sweet bread would work.

I also made up a few batches of bean burgers (using 3 different recipes as guides) to store in the freezer for quick meals.  And as a surprise snack one day I made a batch of DELICIOUS Honey Butter Popcorn (it's good with or without the nuts).  If you add a touch of salt it's almost like a kettle corn (without the nuts) or cracker jacks (with the nuts) but not cloyingly sweet.  I altered it slightly by using a non-dairy butter and about 10-12 cups of popped popcorn (it calls for 6 cups) so it wasn't too sweet.  It was good even days later.

I also discovered a recipe for vegan Amaretti Cookies.  They are gluten free as well but the recipe does use refined sugar.  They are really good.  My husband (the anti-vegan) loves them.  After he ate 2 I told him they are almond flour and aquafaba.  After explaining what aquafaba was he said "why did you have to go and tell me there's chickpeas in my cookies???"  (Of course aquafaba is the chickpea cooking liquid not the beans, he was being dramatic)  I told him because I'd promised that I will always tell him what's in food he tries and never hide ingredients.  But I tell him AFTER he's tried the recipe of course!  😁  (p.s. mine look more like snowball cookies because they didn't crack but they were still delicious!)  He ate quite a few more over the course of a couple days and has requested them for this week's dessert.  So I guess he likes them!

What I've Been Reading - I haven't read as many books over the past month but I did read a few good ones. (affiliate links)

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine: A Novel by Gail Honeyman - this was a very different book for me to read but it was written so incredibly well.  A word of caution that it does deal with child abuse but it really is brilliant.  It's tragic, sad, funny, and enlightening.

The Twelve Dates Of Christmas: A Novel by Jenny Bayliss - apparent from the title it's a rom-com and a very well written debut novel.  I really liked the main characters and the little twists and turns of the story which is set in England.

The Clause In Christmas: A Poppy Creek Novel by Rachael Bloome - honestly, I really didn't think I would like this book.  I guess I thought it would be a bit too cheesy.  Quite surprisingly I enjoyed it (not cheesy at all).  It was light, the events were predictable, but I liked the characters and the storyline and it was a fun read.  It's the first of a series of five.

This Month On The Farm: December 2020

  And just like that December is over.  Happy new year to all of you!  2020 was a bit of a crazy ride but all-in-all, for us, it was quite alright.  While we didn't have a great year financially, we really can't complain.  We learned that we could tighten our already tight financial belt even more.  With that it ensured our bills are paid, we have food in our pantry and freezers, the animals are very well taken care of, our business survived, and we had more time to spend on things we weren't finding time to get done in previous years.  

Please know that I am not trying to be insensitive to those who had tragic outcomes in 2020, rather, we are trying to focus on what went well for us.  On that same note I am super grateful we had made the decision not to move our business off of our farm so our overhead was limited.  We had struggled with that decision since we started the business and just about a year and a half ago made a final decision that we would not grow the business any larger than what we could handle ourselves in the space we've got.

Well, Jay had been complaining that it didn't feel like Christmas a couple of weeks prior.  He said that because we didn't have snow he just wasn't feeling it.  Sooooo....I blame him completely for the 3 feet that were dumped on us shortly before the big day.  Yup - he is the one you can blame as well if you'd like.  It took a full 2 days to complete our snow removal - paths, deck, porches, and roofs and, since he does most of it, he was exhausted by the time it was done.  Of course he didn't much appreciate my singing of Christmas songs as we suited up to head outside for each round of shoveling or snow blowing.  Clearly he doesn't always appreciate my enthusiasm or talents.
