hey another prompt; r is a teacher in Abbott for years now and has a specific styling of clothes. More of baggy loose clothes. As if her wardrobe are full off oversized pants and button up shirts and either a loafers or converse high lugged. And for some days, she dresses horribly, like more horribly than Janine and one time even managed to put on different shoes 🤦🏻‍♀️. Ava pokes fun of it and Barb and Janine even tried to help r out with dressing up, offering a shopping get together and sort but she declines says she's happy with what she wears and it's comfy. Mel joins teasing r once in a while tho and r just gonna roll her eyes playfully 'cause she's friends with her and knows that Mel was just a lil jealous that r can wear such comfy clothes tho it looks horrible. Then one day there will be like a school visit from.the district and Ava recquired all of the staff to wear formal or casual attire,ofc she makes fun of r again asking what horrible choices of clothes again is she gonna wear. Barb and Janine offered help and again she declines. Then the next day they're all in the staff room talking about it and when Mel is about to say something, r strode inside wearing nice clothes, even nicer than Ava and shocked to see she's wearing skirt and slaying the high heels without stuttering or wobbling. Mel, who's have her mouth agape and having a hard time taking her eyes off the teacher now became the new center of teasing as the teacher walks up to her and closed her mouth saying she might catch fly with a smirk on her face before leaving the break room to start her class.

You walk into the break room with sweats and an oversized shirt on.

“Woah girl, I think you need a wardrobe change. You do realise it’s spring right?” Ava says as soon as you walk in and she sees your outfit.

You sit down at Melissa and Barb’s table and Melissa looks at you and smiles. “I have to agree with Ava, and I thought Janine’s outfits were bad, but yours are a whole other level.” She tells you and you roll your eyes.

“Heeyyy.” Janine complains when she heard what Melissa said and Melissa just smirks.

“Sweetheart, I was thinking that you, me and Janine can go to the thrift store and get some new clothes tomorrow morning.” Barb offers.

“Thanks, but I’m good. I like my clothes, might not be the most stylish but they’re comfortable.” You tell her.

“Girl, your clothes ain’t stylish at all. Like you got two patterns on, they don’t even match.” Ava says.

“Don’t you have some influencing to do? You know, anything besides your actual job?” You tell her and she leaves.

“Why do you have two different patterns on your outfit?” Melissa asks.

“First 2 things I grabbed.” You tell her with a shrug and she shakes her head at you. “You’re just jealous because I don’t care about what I look like and wear comfy clothes.” You tell her and she snorts.

“Hon, there’s comfy and there’s comfy disaster. Which category do you think you fall under?” She asks you and you huff.

“I still think you’re jealous.”

“Keep thinking that hon. Doesn’t make it any more true.” She says back to you. “By the way you realise you have 2 different shoes on right?” She asks you and you look at your feet.

“I do…now.” You tell her and she shakes her head and smiles.

On Monday you walk in with a similar outfit on and Melissa rolls her eyes at you when you sit down. Ava walks in not too long after.

“Listen up, dorks! Tomorrow the school district is coming over for a tour and I need everyone to look good. And I’m mostly talking to you, walking disaster.” She says and looks at you, you just roll your eyes. “Tomorrow can you at least wear something that matches.” She tells you.

“I’ll think about it.” You tell her and she leaves.

“Sweetheart, tonight Janine and I can go to a thrift store with you for an outfit for tomorrow.” Barb tells you and Janine nods her head.

“I’m good, I think I know what outfit to wear tomorrow.” You tell them and Barb looks at you sceptically.

“Are you sure?” She asks and you nod your head.

“Yep.”

“Can't wait to see your best mismatched outfit tomorrow.” Melissa teases you and you smile.

Tomorrow morning, everyone is in the break room. Melissa, Barb and Janine are discussing their outfits and then it lands on your outfit.

“What do you think she’s gonna wear today?” Janine asks as she’s getting coffee ready.

Barb shrugs, and when Melissa goes to speak, you waltz in and her eyes go wide and she freezes.

You walk in with heeled boots, black tights, a nice black skirt that ends mid thigh with a nice belt, and a blue blouse that you tucked into the skirt. Melissa’s eyes roam your entire body and you smile.

“Daammn girl. Where has all of this been for 2 years?” Ava says.

“Not needed.” You tell her and you see Melissa’s reaction. You walk over to go put your lunch box in the fridge and you stop at her. You put a hand out to her and place it under her chin, she looks up at you and grin. You then push her mouth closed. “You don’t want to catch flies.” You tease her and everyone hides a snicker. You put your lunchbox in the fridge and then you walk out to your classroom.

“What was that?” Janine asks as everyone stares at where you just were.

“Don’t know, but I approve.” Ava says.

“Even though she looked better than you?” Jacob says and Ava glares.

“Hey.” She tells him sternly. “She looks good today but not better than me, thank you very much.” Ava says, she flips her hair and then walks out.

Melissa is still stunned, she knew you were beautiful underneath all those baggy clothes, and you had a pretty face, but that shocked her. You were stunning and she doesn’t know how to react.

“Melissa?” Barb says and snaps her fingers at her and Melissa jumps and looks at her.

“What?!?” She asks and everyone snickers.

“You ok? Looks like you’ve seen a ghost.” Barb says.

“Or she got a crush.” Jacob adds and Melissa whips her head around to him.

“I do not have a crush on her. Just didn’t expect her to look like that today.” She tells him and then turns back around.

Everyone drops it, knowing that Melissa won’t budge, but they don’t forget it.

At lunch, you’re in the break room getting your coffee ready when Melissa walks in. Normally you say hi to her but it seems a teacher is talking to you today. Melissa sees you and the teacher talking and when she gets closer she hears the conversation and realises the teacher is flirting with you. Most of the staff know you’re gay as you’re open about it, and it seems another gay teacher has taken an interest in you today. Melissa doesn’t like it to be honest. She liked it better when you didn’t catch anyone’s eye except hers. She sits down with a sigh and you glance around.

“Oh hi Melissa, didn’t hear you come in.” You tell her with a smile.

“Ya I can see that.” She tells you, a bit snippy and you look at her confused. You bring your attention back on the teacher and she continues whatever she was talking about with you. Melissa is sulking on her phone while glancing at you and the teacher talking, who moved from the coffee machine to the couch. Barb keeps glancing at Melissa, knowing she’s jealous of the teacher flirting with you.

Everyone else seems to be in conversation but that all comes to a halt when they hear the other teacher ask you out and they all spare a glance at Melissa. Melissa freezes and all colour drains from her face. Not wanting to hear your answer, she grabs her things and walks out.

You hear the teacher ask you out and you freeze, you hear the room go silent for some reason and then you see Melissa get up and leave. You look over at everyone else and they all seem to be given a worried look at where Melissa was just standing.

“I’m flattered but no, sorry.” You tell the teacher.

“Are you sure?” She asks again with a smile.

“Ya, I’m interested in someone else.” You tell her and then get up and you walk to Barb. “Is Melissa ok?” You ask her and she shrugs.

“I don’t know dear. Didn’t have time to ask her. Maybe you can go check on her.” She tells you and you nod your head then walk out of the break room.

“This is getting interesting.” Jacob says and everyone agrees.

“Did you see her rocking those heels though, and she didn’t even stumble once today.” Janine says and Jacob looks at her interested in the topic.

“I did ya. She looks good in them too.” He adds.

You walk down the hall to Melissa’s classroom and you knock them open her door. You peak in and catch the tail end of Melissa’s pout before she goes to a neutral face and looks at the door.

“Hey Melissa.” You say to her.

“Hey hon.” She says to you and forces a smile.

“Is it safe to come in?” You ask her and she nods. You open the door more and walk in and then close the door behind you. “Just wanted to check if you were ok. Saw you almost storming out and Barb didn’t know if you were ok either. She suggested I come to make sure you’re alright.” You tell her and she sighs.

Of course Barb told you to come talk to her. She’s been trying to get her to admit her feelings for you for a few months now.

“Ya I’m alright, thanks for asking.” She tells you and you don’t look convinced in the slightest.

“Wanna tell me that while looking at me?” You ask her while she taps a pen on her desk.

“Why should I do that?” She asks and then looks up at you.

“Because it would seem more convincing then the lame ass attempt you already did.” You tell her and she snorts. She makes no attempt at saying it to you though and that worries you a bit. Melissa has never been able to lie to you while looking at you so the fact that she’s not telling you she’s alright while looking at you, it worries you.

You go and grab one of the students chairs and bring it over to sit beside her desk.

“What’s wrong?” You ask her and she looks at you then looks at her pen in her hands.

“Nothing.” She says and you place a finger under her chin and get her to look at you.

“What’s wrong?” You ask her again and she can’t concentrate. All she focuses on is your hand under her chin and she gulps. “I know something is bothering you, so what is it?” You gently push.

“I don’t want to talk about it.” She tells you while looking at you and you nod.

“Are you sure? Cause I’m a great listener.” You tell her with a smile and she smiles back at you.

“Alright well if you change your mind then you know where to find me.” You tell her and you put the chair back and then leave.

As you exit her classroom you bump into a teacher and you apologise to them.

“Y/n? Wow, I almost didn’t recognise you. You look pretty!” The teacher says to you and you smile and thank them. Melissa sees the interaction and presses down on the desk with her pen and the tip of the pen almost breaks.

At the end of the day, you’re all helping your students get ready to leave. BassBreaker High School AU 😁

I learned about this ship like a week ago and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Like I go to bed thinking about them 😭 and after scrolling through my Pinterest boards and coming across modern art of TimeBomb (my other #1 arcane ship) I needed to feed both my heart and the hearts of GertVi lovers and desperately needed to make a modern au.

I haven’t published anything yet because the overwhelming sadness punches me in the gut every day, but one day (probably within the next couple of weeks) I’ll publish under my series on ao3 called “concepts of a fanfiction” where I post ideas I have for fanfics but not enough motivation to post them.

So, until i have actual material to post, I’ll leave y’all with the concept I have for this fic.

Childhood best friends to lovers Gert x Vi (slow burn 😛) because now I’m obsessed with them

Exes Violyn, but the story starts with Vi pining for Caitlyn and then leaving her for Gert after she realizes Caitlyn is kinda manipulative and doesn’t respect Vi or her people.

Vi is still best friends with Jayce, this random college student two years older than her (at first she remained friends with Jayce just to spite Caitlyn but then her and Jayce genuinely became best friends and are now inseparable 😭).

HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS TIMEBOMB 😍 (another slow burn, they freshmen in high school in this particular fic) I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

SLOWBURN ZAUNDADS YUH‼️ They’re tryna work out their relationship, trying to see how things will work and stuff after some huge fight they had when they were younger, but the kids love Silco so sometimes they spend the night at his house.

Typing “slow burn” for the third time made me giggle. The whole family gets bitches but they just don’t know what to do with them 😭 

Im thinking that maybe I’ll do one chapter on Gert and Vi throughout their high school years to start the story, then the main story will start and it’ll be Gert and Vi in their senior year. And I’ll also probably do little one shots for them that are separate from the main fic. Might also do some TimeBomb ones too cuz they’re my babies.

The main plot is something like this: Vi’s has her heart set on a perfect senior year and Caitlyn Kiramman is just that: perfect. Vi finally has her chance when Caitlyn’s fancy Piltovan school starts offering college courses and Vi’s school gets an opportunity to tour said fancy Piltovan school. So Vi shoots her shot and she scores, unsurprisingly but much to Gert’s dismay (who has been crushing on Vi basically ever since she knew she liked girls).

So Vi and Caitlyn start dating. Gert is, of course, happy for her (Gert has never cried harder in her life compared to the night that Vi called and told her she was dating Caitlyn) in true best friend fashion. All is fun and gay until Vi starts noticing a pattern, of sorts.

Caitlyn highkey looks down on her. She doesn’t seem to enjoy herself when Vi takes her to her favorite spots around Zaun (that are coincidentally some of Gert’s favorite spots too 👀 Vi do you have something to share with the class), turns her nose up at some of Vi’s favorite foods, can’t seem to get along with VI’s siblings (or her parents tbh, Vander tolerates Caitlyn bc he wants Vi to be happy and Silco despises her 😭), cringing at their cozy but kinda small living space and rolling her eyes at their interests. Caitlyn always insists they hang out in Caitlyn’s neighborhood and drags Vi along to her parent’s fancy parties (where Vi often sneaks off with Jayce, Viktor, and sometimes even Mel towards the end, that’s how Vi and Jayce became besties [cuz they both hate the Kiramman parties]).

(I won’t even hold you, Vi’s kind of a pushover for a bit. She’s the kind of person to do literally anything for/with the person she’s dating if it makes them happy.)

Cait just has no appreciation for all the things that make Vi herself, and Vi starts to wonder if Caitlyn ever really liked who for who she was, or if Caitlyn was just trying to be different (it’s the second one, I fear. Sorry Vi). Even though Caitlyn has frequently made Vi feel shitty about who is she is and where she comes from, Vi let’s a lot of things slide. She got stuck on her vision of a perfect senior year and now she feels so much shame knowing that Caitlyn wasn’t as good as she’d hoped. It makes Vi angry, considering how much time she spent trying to make Caitlyn happy, so Vi ends up lashing out and she kinda messes up some of her closest relationships with friends and family (primarily Powder and Gert) in the process.

In addition to Vi’s relationship with Caitlyn messing up some of her relationships, Gert started getting kinda distant when Vi was dating Caitlyn. Once, Vi heard Gert had a show but Gert had never asked her to come, so Vi called her and talked to her about it and Gert was like “I thought you’d be with Caitlyn or something” and Vi is like “you know I’d drop everything for you, quit playing” and Gert is kinda worked up so she goes “would you drop her for me?” (And Vi. Almost. Says. Yes.) and then Vi’s gotta go for some reason so she doesn’t answer. God there’s gonna be so much perfect scrumptious angst between these too.

So that really messes Vi up because that’s her bestie and she refuses to lose Gert over a girl. The thing that tops it all of is an argument that Vi and Powder get into about Caitlyn (because Pow is Caitlyn’s biggest hater and isn’t afraid to show it) where Vi may or may not call her sister a jinx.

And it’s insane because nobody calls Powder a jinx to be mean anymore, not after an accident got the four of them in legal trouble and Vi injured, and Powder had a mental breakdown because she thought it was all her fault. 

But Vi calls her a jinx, throws it at her sister like a slur, and seeing Powder’s face fall like that solidifies the fact that Vi needs to end things with Caitlyn before Vi allows her reactions to her own shitty relationship make things worse with the people she loves.

But Caitlyn beats her to it like a day later, gets mad at Vi for not wanting to constantly cater to her every whim (and throws in something about Vi never shutting up about Gert which is definitely true 😭). And then Caitlyn goes way too far by saying some hurtful things about Vi’s family, her home, and even Vi that fucks Vi up even worse!

The deep hurt aside, Vi feels this great sense of relief, breaking up with Caitlyn and all, but since things got complicated and started affecting her other relationships, Vi also feels super guilty. So after taking time to patch things up with her family and friends, there’s one person she saves for last: Gert. Will their relationship survive after it all (yes. Obviously.)? Of course Gert is salty, who wouldn’t be after getting abandoned by their best friend of, like, fourteen years for her stuck up, classist girlfriend? But Vi is absolutely begging Gert to hear her out and forgive her, basically down on her knees begging Gert for forgiveness, and Gert’s like “I can’t not forgive her.” And once they’re besties again, Gert’s long time crush comes back and she’s like “well now I can’t not kiss her. Fuck.” And at that point Vi is also kinda like, “pause. Has it been Gert this whole time fr??” (And her whole family is like. Well yes.) Here Vi was thinking that Caitlyn was perfect, completely missing sight of the baddie she had on her hands this whole time.

While Caitlyn might have been “perfect” she was lowkey boring, and Gert is far from boring. She’s unapologetically herself. DIY-ing her own stuff, dressing however she wants, making super cool music (and letting Vi be the first to hear it), taking Vi to her shows, running around Zaun and showing Vi all her favorite places, doing art in said places. Gert really just doesn’t gaf about what other people think of her, often including Vi. Gert is far from boring. Honestly, Gert is far from perfect (in the best way possible), and that in itself is perfect.

So yeah. Childhood besties to lovers GertVi, everyone. I hope I didn’t absolutely suck at explaining this and that some of yall actually like this lmao

I think it would either be something about forced proximity like being put on the same adventuring team (which I don’t have a good example of) or maybe that one of us gets stolen away and the other has to come to the rescue, like in The Snow Queen. 

I could also see it being something akin to Snow White and Rose Red, where one of us is cursed to look like an animal and we work together to get the curse lifted.

I think we’d both like to travel, Hoshina can’t really take more that a couple of days off so travel outside of Japan hasn’t been possible.

I could imagine that he can’t just enjoy the peace and quiet of retired life, though, so he might end up becoming a swordplay instructor after all… 🤔

I have this thing where I very quickly mimic accents/dialects and speech patterns of the people I’m around a lot. Which means that I tend to mimic Hoshina’s Kansai dialect. It usually gets me a flick to the forehead and a ‘don't do that, speak properly’ 😂 

The thing is, though, that he does the same thing! He’s taken a shine to the phrase “ik’ å?” ('right?') and I’ve heard him swear in Danish on a couple of occasions. He says it sounds better since Japanese doesn't have any proper swear words.

He’s also adopted my overuse of emojis when texting as well as having a few too many decorations. He had a bit of a militant upbringing where owning anything unnecessary just because was looked down upon and he's overcompensating just a little bit 😅

I’ve noticed that I’m stretching a lot more after we started dating, like taking breaks throughout my day to stretch for a couple of minutes. I’ve also adopted the ‘it can’t be helped’ way of looking at things ('shikata ga nai,' or as Hoshina would say, 'shaa nai'), though that might just be due to living in Japan. No matter what it’s helped me stress less over things I can’t change.

Nekomata cosplay reveal!!

I wore Sumire, a cat maid from the manga the Splendid Work of a Monster Maid to Fanexpo a couple weeks ago!!

I made the cat ears, dress and apron myself, and is the first time ever sewing a dress and patterning anything as big as an apron on my own!

We went to the Hello Kitty cafe nearby after the con, which was so cool and felt fitting for my cat character!

I’m hoping to make more progress on this costume because I had so much fun wearing it, but I definitely noticed that less people talked to me at the con because she’s from a lesser known media. 📝🤔 hmm… wear on con days that I’m feeling more introverted…

My next steps are the apron bow, the maid headband and the key necklace. Then I want to make the tail and a basket to use as a con bag in the future. I’ve also been eyeing the lantern from the front cover of the first book, so stretch goal?! The con I want to wear her to next has yet to announce their date, so if it ends up being the summer I might be able to get that done too! And maybe get photos taken from a cosplay photographer? (Shoutout to my best friend for these con photos!!)

Bonus cursed image (Tumblr exclusive!). We absolutely dodged a bullet with the Hello Kitty cafe, because I didn’t take any photos of my cosplay at the convention. When we left the con it had started raining, but it was only a light drizzle as we walked to the cafe.

❤️ i learned mainly by scrolling on pinterest, noticing cool stylistic choices in random artworks and squirreling them away in my brain for when i’ll try them out later in my own scribbles 🍎 (⃔๑⃙⃘◡̈๑⃙⃘)⃕↝ a good example of this is when i noticed these magazine covers had murderously cool use of texture and pattern, but i couldn’t figure out how to replicate it digitally so after some loooong pondering i arrived at using origami patterns for clothing/hair! i’ve only just begun doing this so i still have to experiment some more 🤔🧨💥

🧡 i also learned how to draw boys by first drawing girls over n over, then eradicating gender constraints in my brain by drawing my boys like girls. nice. a lot easier this way! idk when i first started drawing boys i would be sooo worried about realism and scared of making them too feminine by giving them waists or thigh gaps or small shoulders—stupid small stuff that kept my boys looking stiff and rigid—but now i Don’t Care and i couldn’t be happier!! ୧⃛(๑⃙⃘◡̈๑⃙⃘)୨⃛* ੈ✩‧₊˚* ੈ✩‧₊

💚 eyes! nowadays i mostly go for triangular irises 🔺 just cuz they look cool and are sometimes easier than circles. but when the iris is in the middle of the eye, i do ovals! 🔴

🩵 mouths! generally i exclude the teeth because i like that ambiguous look to a biiig open smile, like is this an open yelling mouth or a teeth-clenched grin? i really liked how harley quinn and poison ivy look in the batman cartoon so everytime i draw like akira im envisioning these two baddies then BAM ( ꙭ ).ᐟ.ᐟ cunty black lipstick!!

Is that just a thing cause that’s what people do with no real reasoning, or is rebloging easier or better somehow? I’m still relatively new to snzblr— & tumblr in general— having just started this blog in March of this year, and tbh, I have absolutely no idea either.

I’ve just been copying how I’ve seen everyone else communicating for the most part, so I honestly could not tell ya’. There doesn’t appear to be any strict pattern, as I’ve seen people do both or either just because, but I usually comment under someone’s post if I want to talk directly to that person, and reblog if I wanna add on to the post.

For example, if I saw a personal post— someone going thru something difficult in their real life or someone having achieved something big in their real life, etc. and they decided to share/vent here— I’d comment, wanting to keep their post specific to their page & not take any attention away from their voice, but still offer support.

Or hey, if I saw a really hot snz prompt and don’t have anything specific to add but want to express how much I love it, I’d probably usually comment, saying something like “omg THIS!!! 👀👀” yk?

But if I saw a really hot snz prompt and wanted to add something, I'd reblog saying like “This is sooo [character]-coded” or “THIS, but add [whatever you wanted to add/ think pairs well with whatever scenario it is]” if that makes any sense.

Tbh, I really usually just sit back and observe how people communicate, and then try my best to match it to a degree that wouldn’t be off putting if I can help it 😭

Adventures in bust darts pt. 1

This is not a knitting blog, however, it IS a special interest blog and we believe in posting all special interests because we live loud.

So I knitted a few sweaters for boobless people before I knit one for myself. So when I started knitting things for myself, I thought, no biggie, I like wearing sweaters with a roomy fit, it will work great to pick a pattern size according to my full bust measurement, with the knowledge that it will be a roomy sweater.

But the armholes. The armholes, people!!!!

I have fairly broad shoulders and a G-cup (UK)/ I-cup (US). I do not, however have big upper arms. Most times the shoulders work themselves out, but the armholes decidedly do NOT.

Below is the Mooncrush Tank by Jacqueline Cieslak. The pattern says to choose a size with 4-6” of positive ease. This is the correct size to give 5” positive ease. Notice two things: the armholes are WAY too big. Like, it’d be okay if they were a little low, but they’re also gaping open in the front and showing a huge amount of front bra. But also notice how much higher the hem is in the front versus the back, because boob real estate. (This pattern is knit in front/back panels, so I’m in the process of fixing it by taking in the side seams. Will report back.)

Below is the Carlisle (Raglan) by Maddy Moe. It’s unfinished on both sleeves. The pattern says to choose a size with 3-6” positive ease. This is the correct size to give 0” ease (because I know from clothes sizing in general that this is more likely to work). This is a better fit, but notice how much extra fabric is bunching at the armpit! I love a comfy sweater as much as the next person, but even going down to 0” ease, there’s still WAY too much fabric here. The difference is between properly oversized and just poorly fitting.

Below is the Ursina by Jacqueline Cieslak. Ignore that it does not go with the t-shirt I’ve got it over. The pattern says to choose a size with 2-6” positive ease. This is the size for about 1” negative ease, but crucial difference: this pattern is written with instructions for adding short-row bust darts, which I added according to the pattern (size D darts, which adds 28 extra rows, about 4” extra!, starting at the fullest point of the chest). You can see the short-row dart stitches if you look closely, diagonal on the underboob. I also added five decrease rounds after the bust for a total of a 20 stitch (almost 4”!) decrease. This is by far the best attempt so far, but there is still too much room in the arms and slightly too much in the armpit. And notice how far off my size choice was from the pattern guide in order to get it fitting this well.

Okay, so.

Bust dart lesson #1:

If you’ve got big boobs, you cannot, cannot choose your size based on your full bust measurement. Even though this is how everyone will tell you to choose your size. When I chose the size as directed in the Mooncrush tank, I needed to remove 8” at the side seams to get it even close to fitting. 8”!

I’m unsure yet whether it will be better to choose pattern size based on bicep circumference or on high bust measurement (with the understanding that I will need to add significant boob real estate to that size). Both of these are good possibilities; I think it will be trial and error to figure out which one works better in practice. I suppose it’s also a possibility to use underbust measurement or waist measurement?

High bust measurement is taken under the armpits, but over the boobs. The measuring tape will not be level with the floor. You’d then choose the size with the bust measurement according to your high bust rather than your full bust measurement.

For me, my full bust measurement is 4.5” larger than my high bust measurement. If I was choosing according to pattern ease guidance using my high bust measurement, I should’ve chosen one size smaller for the Mooncrush tank (I don’t think this would’ve been enough to fix the problem 🤔), one size smaller in the Carlisle, and the size I chose in the Ursina (which is one size smaller than if I used the full bust measurement). Because of the big boobs, I may need to ignore their ease suggestions and choose a 0” ease for a sweater they intend oversized and a negative ease for a sweater they intend to be form fitting.

If I used bicep measurement to choose a pattern size, figuring 0” of ease in the bicep, I should’ve chosen the size I did in the Ursina and two sizes smaller in the Carlisle. This may be more promising??? Negative ease in the bicep is fairly common; I may need to use that.

Next up: what I’ve learned about bust darts and experimenting with them to figure out what works best. I’m knitting up a fairly plain sweater in a size chosen according to 0” of ease using high bust measurement, and the plan is to do different types and combos of darts, ripping out in between, and see which is best in the end!

I feel the same way! For myself, personally, there are still some hits (Critics Choice, Emmys outfits to name some recent ones 😍), but more misses than when he worked with Fabio. 😔

Look, he will always be a sight to behold, and fashion can be a fun creative outlet and expression of self; he’s a smart man, and clearly hired her feeling like she could help him achieve something in this regard and was no doubt ready to take some fashion risks. For this reason, I sometimes feel like she picks pieces that have “impact” or will start a conversation, and maybe that’s what he wants.

BUT, being a good stylist should be more than being able to procure interesting looks/designer access; in two areas I feel like she sometimes does him a disservice:

1) Fit. Many times I’ve felt that an outfit (Interesting! Unique!) does not sit on his frame quite right, and could be elevated with simple tailoring (ex. raising of a hemline, taking in a leg that’s a wee bit too wide) which would keep the lines cleaner and make the look more polished. Proper fitting on the body shape your dressing can make a world of difference.

2) On more than one occasion I felt she misread the event. Even when dressing to standout, there is a level of consistency in tone that an event sets; ignoring it may not read as being playful, but kind of sloppy or worse, disrespectful? Maybe I’m reading too much into it - sorry 😣.

The AFI luncheon was a good example of both issues, I feel. I actually loved the blue Valentino “scrubs” 🤭 on their own; the nonsynthetic fabric and the hang of the garments I feel demonstrate thoughtful design choices. But it wasn’t right for the obviously more formal event; he looked so out of place among his TLOU castmates (and Meryl Streep, etc.). The hemline of both the shirt and the pants needed to be taken up at least an inch; the shirt hung too long and shortened his legs while billowing out in a way that was not the original design intent (if you look at the Valentino runway photos). The pants dragging on the floor again shortened his legs and made the pants “slouchier” than the hang of the pants should have been. The combination of the mismatch with the event and the suboptimal fit of the garments is what I think led to people making all the scrubs jokes 😔

(I personally felt that the outfit looked way better once he put the sling on, because the sling helped the fabric lay flatter against his body and helped break up the too long shape of the top?)

Another example on where I think maybe additional thought should have been given to the event/fit, is Willem Dafoe’s Walk of Fame ceremony. Maybe you loved these pants and thought they were super fun, maybe you hated these pants and thought they looked clownish. Doesn’t matter! Everyone’s style is different and clearly he loved them and also fashion is fun and also the point is not the pants themselves!

I don’t think this pair of pants was appropriate for a ceremony where he had to sit for a prolonged period of time and where the majority of the photo ops took place after sitting. The material of the pants is prone to creasing and with him being in the audience for most of the ceremony (and getting up and then down for his speech), the mid section of the pants creased and wrinkled considerably from when he put them on initially, I’m sure. All pants crease of course! But it is much more noticeable and also makes much more of a difference on the lines/pattern of the pants when the pants have horizontal stripes. The cut of the pants is meant to be lower ankle length and straight leg, but with the creasing (which again, is kind of sloppy looking SORREEE), the overall shape of the pants became more “balloon” like, if that makes sense, as it couldn’t hang the way it was meant to. This shortened his legs again and made him look a bit stout 🤔

(Nothing wrong with being stout, of course! Just that it didn’t need to look that way with a different pant choice? One with more structure maybe to balance out his top half which was more a draped shape because of his shoulder injury)

At the end of the day, the most important thing is that he feels comfortable, both physically and in his own skin (which I think he usually does! A few outfits come to mind where I felt like he seemed self conscious, tugging at or fidgeting with the clothes, but maybe I’m projecting 🤷🏻‍♀️) HOWEVER, I think that in addition to the “art” of styling there is a bit of a “science” to it as well, and if some more attention was paid to that side, he might not have to rely so much on his personality to pull off these outfits? 🫣🫣🫣🫣

(Also need to add: even for the above examples, I just wanted to point out it could have been better - not necessarily that he looks bad, even if I personally did or did not like it 🫣)

I don’t do art, but I do write. Personally, what I’ve found is to push through it—motivation or not. Set a timer, write (or draw) as much as possible in that time, then in the end, you tend to appreciate doing it despite the initial lack of motivation. There’s a quote… that I can’t quite remember completely….🤔 But it’s about this subject. Basically it’s about how in the most successful/productive times, the motivation comes after/during, not before.

There’s also the Pomodoro Technique, which I recommend looking into. That definitely helps me. Just to sit down, do a quick writing sprint not matter how I feel, then break. 

So those are the two things that help me most, but you also have to be aware of burnout. Sometimes we can have creative burnout without even realizing. Our minds keep working, flourishing with ideas, but we’re too burnt out to actually act upon them. Just being aware and knowing how to listen to your body during those times is super valuable. It’s really difficult to walk

It’s really difficult to walk the fine line between productivity and burnout. I’d go so far as to say it’s the biggest challenge of being a creative. But once you start to actually log the amount of time you work (or how much you produce) per day, then log whenever you feel burnt out, you’ll start to notice patterns that’ll help you find the perfect amount of time to work.

Anyway, that was a slight ramble. Hope it helps somewhat, though ♥️😅

okay thing I have been coming up with so many ideas for my comic that generally I get excited about but as soon as i sit down to do it I lose all the motivation tho art in genral has been pretty good so I don’t want to get into another art block by pushing myself  would any of you have advice for this?

‘Author’ (is that what I am now?) Self Interview

Name: “Boom” professionally, “Boomie” to my friends, “Kaboom” to my lovers, and “Waste of Nine Months” to my mother. 🙃

Fandoms: I’ve been fairly committed to ATLA for the last year or so—and would both kill and die for Sukka—but I also have a complicated relationship with the Game of Thrones fandom, which I occasionally revisit for Jonerys…that finale was just…yikes. 🤮

I’m also a huge Lord of the Rings and Star Wars fan, but the ships for those fandoms aren’t as compelling for me, so it’s harder to engage in the same way.

Where do you post: My fics are posted on AO3 under GeneralKenobi212, where I have eleven works (nine completed), ten of which are heavily focused on Sukka…and one of which is *technically* Zutara-centric…but it was born of my love for Sukka…and it’s probably the most absurd thing I’ll ever write for as long as I live. 😝

Most popular multi-chapter fic: I only have two of these, and I’m pretty certain that An Amorous Ambush is the more popular one. Basically, Suki and Katara find out they’re both pregnant at the same time, so they rope Ty Lee into committing ecoterrorism before their lives really start changing. Sokka and Zuko get suspicious and chase after them, and shenanigans ensue. (The last chapter has been fully outlined for months and I’ve written most of the Sukka parts, but it’s hard for me to get hyped up to write the Zutara…I’ll finish it sooner or later, though.)

Favorite story you’ve written so far: Hmmmm…I think it’s gotta be one of the first three I wrote, all of which are heavy with dramatic irony. I love how the Sukka family dynamic turned out in The Councilman’s Mistress (especially between Sukka’s three daughters), but there’s also some solid humor in The Firelord’s Lover and a couple of super sweet moments in It’s Not the Food. If I had to pick one…probably TCM. Little Yo-Yo is the sum of every rascally five-year-old I have ever met, and I love her. 🥰🥰🥰

Fic you were nervous to post: Yeah…well…I’m pretty nervous about all of them—but especially anything with smut. Dr. Wing Fire was my first smutty fic, but Wresting and Hot Spring, both of which are rated E, left me guessing whether I could competently write smut at all. Does it come off as beautiful or base? Am I crossing a line? Are the descriptions weird or too wordy? Tough for me to say, but I have definitely benefited from some great feedback on what I’ve done right.

How do you choose your titles: I prefer to choose quick, quippy titles—stuff that I like to think sticks with the reader. And I’ve also noticed a pattern with my use of a possessive subject followed by an object, like The Councilman’s Mistress and The Firelord’s Lover, and I have a pair of WIPs called Suki’s Pine and Kyoshi’s Island. 🤔 Not sure why I do it, but it works for me!

Do you outline: Only when I feel like the fic requires it. If the plot is simple and straightforward and I’m fueled by a surge of inspiration, I’ll literally sit down and type 2k-3k words in a single sitting with basically no notes at all. But with multi-chapter fics and even single-chapter fics like Kyoshi’s Island which involve several characters each with a solid share in the story, I do some outlining just to keep my thoughts straight.

Complete: If I’m outlining, I’ll only start writing once the outline is finished—and if it’s a multi-chapter fic, I won’t post until I know EXACTLY where the story is going from beginning to end…although that doesn’t stop me from procrastinating on the writing itself. 🥴

Do you except prompts: Of course! I’m currently working on The Courtship of the Earth for @myargalargan, based on her idea for an ATLA Mythology AU. Her concept was brilliant, and even though it’s been tougher to write than I expected, I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I’ll write anything Sukka! (So long as it isn’t overly angsty or perverse in some way that makes me uncomfortable.)

Upcoming story you’re most excited to write about: I’m really pumped to crank out Kyoshi’s Island. It’s got some wonderful Sukka family moments, and Sokka and Suki’s parenting skills really shine. Plus, the thought of getting to write more Kanna, Senna, and Yo-Yo just warms my heart. ☺️ I’ve also got a lot planned for Sukka Week…including a wedding night fic 😏 (One Body, One Heart, One Soul) and a 1960s Crime Thriller AU (The Informant). But I really need to prioritize so I can get those done in time!!!

Stories you’re most excited to read: So a while back, I combed through EVERY SINGLE FIC UNDER THE SUKKA TAG ON AO3. 😰 Needless to say, it was quite a task, and I marked a lot of awesome looking stories to read for later. Specifically though, I’ve been rationing the last few of @myargalargan’s Sukka masterpieces to reread (since it’s been almost a year now since I read them as a lurking ghost reader). They’re all fantastic, and count herself among them might be the best piece of Suki-centric literature (with great OCs) that I’ve ever come across. Seriously, give it a read—10/10 Boomies would recommend.

Name: Myargalargan, or Myarg is fine, too :)

Fandoms: My primary fandom is Avatar: the Last Airbender (Sukka 4 lyfe). But I’m also semi-active in the Harry Potter Romione fandom. I’ve only written a single one-shot so far, plus the first chapter of a planned out multi-chapter fic, and I haven’t logged on to the Romione discord in months 😰 but I still frequently fangirl over all the other Romione authors out there! lol 

I also slide in and out of the Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, Raven Cycle, Dragon Prince, and Digimon fandoms, although I don’t write for any of them (anymore… 👀). 

Where do you post: I’m Myargalargan on AO3, and I also promote and sometimes post works here on Tumblr. All my ATLA stuff goes to my Sukka side-blog @the-power-of-stuff. 

Most popular multi-chapter fic: I have but one multi-chapter fic (so far)! It’s count herself among them, which is all about Suki, and her figuring out how to be a good leader, and her relationship with her fellow Kyoshi Warriors, and her pining over having completely rational and normal thoughts about Sokka, and her journey between the moments when we see her in the show. 

Favorite story you’ve written so far: Whenever I’m faced with this question, I always go back and forth between two…

The first is scarcely can speak, which has such a special place in my heart because it draws a lot from my personal experiences. I’m very fond of the premise and the structure and I just…had so much fun writing it. 

The second is between the striking and the fire, which is one of those stories that, when I re-read it, I can’t believe I wrote. I hit on a tone in that one that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to re-create.  

Fic you were nervous to post: Wait, is the implication here that there are fics I wasn’t nervous to post?? Because I get nervous about every single one. 😅 

I was probably most nervous posting my first ATLA fic to AO3, because it had been years since I’d written anything, let alone publicly-posted fic. I was also very nervous about count herself among them because it was my most ambitious fic to date, and because it centered so much around a bunch of OCs that I was convinced no one would care about. And then when people started liking it, I was so afraid they would hate each subsequent chapter, haha. 

How do you choose your titles: I’m one of those people who looks to song lyrics or quotes or lines of poetry for my titles because the idea of trying to come up with an original title on my own paralyzes me. 😳

Do you outline: I do when I’m writing a multi-chapter fic. 

Complete: I won’t post until I’ve written the entire fic. That’s why I only have one multi-chapter fic published so far. 🙃

Do you accept prompts: I would love to! I’ve only ever received one prompt request, but I’m open to it! Probably only for Sukka, though. 

Upcoming story you’re most excited to write about: I am so desperately eager to start sharing the words to keep you (which I started writing almost a year ago for last year’s Sukka Week hah…), but…I gotta finish it first! I’m too much of a coward to start posting while a fic is still in progress, so I have to live with the agony of not getting to share it with anyone yet (except my lovely beta!). 

Stories you’re most excited to read: I am loving (My Heart) Still Beats for You by @smilindesperado and am very excited for the next chapters of that one. I also got a little sneak peek into the fics @boomerangguy wants to write for Sukka Week 2021 and they all sound amazing and I am so stoked! Also @krastbannert is apparently working on a Sukka fic, as well, so I am obviously very much looking forward to that. 😁

I’m also feeling very 👀👀👀 about the next chapters of Camp Wizarding World by @romioneb, The Loft by @be11atrixthestrange, Everything Has Changed by @accio-broom, and all of @voldemorts-tap-shoes’s WIPs.

And that’s not even getting into my Marked for Later list on AO3! 😬
