"touya, are you my dad?"

rei's house is quiet this late, only alive in the muted whir of ceiling fans and the rainbow of colors from the nightlight out in the hall. touya can just barely see the distant glow peeking under the gap of the door; soft greens and blues and purples.

all the air in the room seems to evaporate, and instead is replaced by that awful, muggy heat that builds up in touya's hairline and in the creases of his skin, everytime he hears that word: dad.

he's better at knowing how to act around kids than he expected to be. not in some parental sense, but the bits and pieces of touya the big brother are at work again, slow and old and creaking—but moving nonetheless.

touya's thankful for the quiet; whispering hides the tremor in his voice. when he turns to the little girl in the small bed lying beside him, all he sees is you, staring back in red and orange and yellow.

"what makes you ask that?"

the little girl shrugs, shuffles around to push still-wet hair out of her face as she snuggles deeper into her blankets. touya doesn't realize he's holding his breath until she finally elaborates, clutching her little stuffed puppy to her round, full cheeks. "that's what people say."

it's not that you don't want her to know, but softening the truth for a kid ain't easy; touya's not even sure he wants her to know, quite yet, because it means introducing a version of himself he's not proud of. one he's never been proud of, one that still itches under his skin and makes his hands shake, one that wants to burn the guilt away instead of face it.

touya watches the soft blink of her eyelashes, long and dark, and when she looks back up at him, he's just—not ready for her to know him yet. because—

"would it be okay if i was?"

the little girl—his, yours—thinks for only a moment before nodding. "yeah, that'd be okay."

because this touya's okay, for now.

it makes him smile, even with the uncomfortable heat that's broken sweat all out across his body, even with the shame that's waiting for him out beyond the edges of the greens and blues and purples. even knowing that, one day soon, he's gonna have to break her heart the same way he broke yours.

touya shifts a little further down in the bed until his head's resting on her pillow, so they're eye level. he's half hanging off the thing, the tiny twin bed in her room at his mom's house. still doesn't have a place of his own yet, still trying to remember how to be a functioning member of society; gears slow and old and creaking, but moving nonetheless.

the is the only way he gets to see her right now, these few days out of the week that you let her stay the night, so he can get to know the daughter he's missed out on for far too long.

touya hums and forces a big yawn, closes his eyes and hopes she'll follow the act; shouto used to, once long ago. "'s'talk about it tomorrow, okay?"

the little girl shuffles around until she's a little closer, huffing against his face through her own yawn. "okay," she agrees, and touya waits a few minutes before peeking at her. watching her even breathing, in the red and orange and yellow.

If anon had to name just one single concept that's damaged fandom culture more than any other, just one single concept that has caused so many of today's entitled fandoms like the Dabi fans, Toga fans, etc., it's "relatability". Most of us judge people based on their actions, but fandoms judge morality by Which Characters We Personally Relate To. Dabi fans relate to child abuse, so "only Dabi's pain counts". Toga fans relate to mental trauma, so "only Toga's pain counts". And so on and so forth.

I understand that it’s easier to sympathize with characters when you understand their pain and why they do the things they do, and why that understanding makes it easier to forgive. However, for me there are some things that I can’t--and won’t—forgive. I sympathize with these two and feel bad for their pain, but that doesn’t mean their crimes were okay or should be overlooked.

OH MY GOD also I would talk to more Dabi fans about my view point on the recent chapter spoilers but I am in the odd position of being neither for nor against Dabi dying (though honestly HONESTLY if they're going to keep him alive like that, I would 100000% rather he die. It is cruel and it is disgusting and I hate it), and being neither for nor against him apologizing to his family.

Like bro, I'm so tired, I'm so tired of my love for characters tanking because they don't get a good story. What was the point of every ounce of love and care I poured into this character for their story to be so fucking ass?

Seeing people frustrated and sad and even angry about the recent MHA chapter (regarding Shiggy) makes me SO HAPPY about one of my plot points in STIL, because it directly addresses the thing that people are understandably frustrated about with Shiggy.

post war dabi being put under house arrest with the todorokis in the new home (minues endeavor ofc). doesn't really interact with anyone. he ends up reluctantly tagging along to go to the old house to get some more things (under supervision with now-Pro Hero Shouto) while enji's out. there's honestly not a lot of touya's personal effects, nothing that he cares for anyway, so he just dismisses shouto when he asks if there's anything touya wants to bring back. 'till the end, anyway, when he suddenly requests they bring back the altar his family set up after he "died." shouto tells him he can't set it on fire in the house and touya snaps back that he's not gonna burn it and shouto agrees (though he's lowkey sus lmfao). touya keeps his promise and doesn't burn the altar but he does take everything that endeavor put on, including the picture of himself that makes him sick to look at) and chucks it out the window to burn that shit later. endeavor balks when he finds out they took that thing and that touya specifically wanted it brought back.

anyway. touya keeps it in a room adjacent to his, bare. won't let anyone touch it. forbids anyone from entering the room (and they relent, because they're trying to make things work). touya does light incense, but not much else. fuyumi mindlessly wanders in there one day when thinking about what to do, realizes where she is, and goes to duck out before touya sees her when she notices a torn and beaten up cigarettes, with a smattering of scarlet across the front.

she mentions it to her siblings later. shouto remembers reading through reports, documents from the PLF ranging from top tier secrets to grocery budgets. he remembers reading through pages listing specific requests from the original league. he'd read it with earnest because he'd wanted to find out what his brother requested (not a whole lot, as he found out, definitely nothing interesting). he asks his sister if they were american spirits and fuyumi is rapidblinking.gif and confirms it.

shouto starts searching around but he finds out that twice didn't have any family and not a lot to his name. all he can do is grab a picture from the internet, an old picture taken years ago after some sort of motorcycle accident. he prints it and puts it in a frame, sets it where touya's picture one sat.

touya never says anything. doesn't mention it, doesn't get angry at the intrusion. but when shouto peeks into the room days later, he finds incense still lit and bubaigawara's picture still there.
