I am SO grateful that ed and stede exist as characters exactly as they are. I'm so grateful for these two men who are traumatized and messed up and struggle to even like themselves, who are terrible at communicating, who make enough mistakes between the two of them to fill an entire ocean. I am so grateful to watch them struggle and be seen and be loved and reach out for the things they want and are maybe starting to believe that they deserve. I've been quiet recently, but got a bunch of stuff in the works for y'all!!

I'm still working on those paper puppets for a little project regarding intertwined opposites (Possibly one of the most ambitious things I've ever worked on so far) and found a proper way to introduce that new au I'm working on!!

Can you tell us more about your plans to add more cat behavior in the BB rewrite??

First of all, patrolling is getting an overhaul!

There are now four patrols a day; Dawn, Noon, Dusk, and Night. This is based on the big change that BB Cats are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and twilight.

Dawn and Dusk patrols are the desired ones, unlike canon where Dawn Patrol is a chore. That's when everyone is awake! Noon is DREADED, because that's naptime. And Night? That's the most dangerous one, reserved for strong warriors.

Elders now also need to go on daily patrols, assigned as an apprentice task. I'm going to be tasteful about it, but there's something important about marking; that is urine.

The old cats NEED to go on patrols for their mental and physical help, especially toms. This leads into...

There are now some gender roles and expectations to go along with my transgender and queer cats. Contrast to canon where it just kinda ignores gender outside of snide "Ugh! Other gender!" remarks while still accidentally including a glass ceiling, lmao.

IN-UNIVERSE, there are 3 cultural genders. Molly (Yaow), Tom (Ssuf), and Gib (Meewa). There are queer cats with different relationships to these than what is socially expected.

Molly (Yaow) Behaviors:

Aggression and protectiveness. The "Motte" of a tom cat's "Bailey." This is based on how female cats tend to be more cautious and less likely to wander.

Building. Fixing dens, fortifying defenses, and other camp-construction behaviors.

Assertiveness. They are socialized to be more vocal and voice their opinions more than male cats.

Tom (Ssuf) Behaviors:

Curiosity and wanderlust, plus border aggression. This is based on how male cats travel further distances and mark territory more than females.

Playfulness and neediness. It is expected that tom cats ironically need more social stimulation than mollies, related to how they aren't supposed to ask.

Passivity. They are socialized to not argue as much as their molly and gib counterparts, and be less involved in drama.

Gib (Meewa) Behaviors:

Wisdom. This is because of heavy association with Gray Wing the Wise.

Compassion and social aptitude. They are expected to do more emotional labor than the other two.

Patience and tolerance. They are seen as hardy and dedicated, with more focus on long-term projects like land management and crafts.

So I'm taking the freedom now to try and give this culture a unique sense of gender, while still trying to include the joyous and irreverent way us queer WC fans just like seeing ourselves in the cats.

And lastly! More social behaviors related to real cats.

Cats sleep for 15 hours a day. Clan cats are considered "busy bees" for ONLY averaging 13 hours.

So there's now social naps. This is IDEAL sneak-out time, but you are expected to doze off with your clanmates in the middle of the day unless you have an assignment (the detested noon patrol...)

Allogrooming. The prevention of knots and mats is a social responsibility, everyone stays clean. Sharing Tongues is back and more important than ever.

Sparring. A formalized way to express play fights, and sharpen fighting skills while you're at it.

Something about scratching, but I haven't worked it out yet! I want the cats to have some kind of ritual related to this.

Nikolai is a pretty laid back and chill sort of man, so he usually doesn’t mind you putting your hand over his heart. Maybe not while you’re walking, though, he doesn’t want you to trip. It’s very sweet to him: You wanna make sure that he’s alive? That he’s still with you? That his heart is still beating? Trust me, not even death could take him away from you. He’d dig his way out of his grave after killing the reaper with his bare hands himself. You can always put your hand over his chest while you’re at home together, though. It’s nice to feel you. After a while it would be reassuring to him as well, feeling that you’re there, that you’re with him. He thinks it’s sweet that you always want to be touching him, because if it was up to you he’d do the same thing with you. After some time, once he’s realized that you’re always touching him whenever you can, he tries to get into positions that facilitate you touching him a bit. Usually lies on his back when you’re cuddling so you have full access to him. Can and will fall asleep like that, but will also want to hold you back. Will also put his hand over your heart as well so he can “get back at you”. In reality, feeling your heartbeat is also just nice and reassuring to him. However, he sometimes might lie on your chest in order to hear it as well, something like it lulls him to sleep, after all. You can put your hand over his chest in public as well, though, he doesn’t particularly mind cuddling in public either. There’s a good chance you’ll be nicely clothed, though, so you won’t feel his heartbeat unless you slip your hand under his clothes. You can do that, he doesn’t care about strangers staring in public. However, once it’s time to continue walking around, release him. You can continue your antics once you’ve found another nice bench to sit on.

the dynamic of the tav I'm playing and Minthara is gonna be SO fun because like imagine the scrawniest little half-drow girl anyone's ever seen who is drow on her father's side (disgusting) and was mostly raised by her human side so she hasn't been around many drow in general and has never met a female drow. and like all she'd hear about female drow from the people around her is like, bad terrible things probably so she's just living her whole life like "ok I have to be extra good all the time forever then" and then she does the absolute worst job she can conforming to drow gender norms (possibly on purpose) and becomes a wizard of all fucking things and she's just gonna be a scrawny little good girl wizard forever so that no one thinks she's scary

and then brainworms happen and she's gotta go save all these people from the goblins like a good little girl and uh oh she finds out that there's a drow lady meeting these goblins and she's like 👀 despite it all and Minthara ends up being the first female drow she's ever met in her entire life and when she meets her, uh oh, she IS being scary and mean and threatening to mutilate and torture people uh oh every story she's ever heard is right

and the second Minthara notices her, its like

like "uh oh, the scary mean (and hot) drow lady you just met immediately notices you and grabs you by the brain and caresses it, then shows you a psychosexual interaction she had with the most deranged person in the world" all before Minthara even verbally acknowledged her and she's just like

and uh oh, now the scary drow lady she just met is immediately after that telling her they're going to slaughter the tieflings together and you know what, maybe if Karlach wasn't behind her and she wasn't at a terminal stage of "gotta be a good girl" syndrome, then she would because the thing she's been scared of her entire life is actually very hot and also instead of being scary at her, tried to take her by the hand (brain) and lead her to glory without hesitation. maybe she could have been convinced or strong armed into it

but you know, I'm not being evil yet and now Halsin is telling this very confused little half drow that she has to kill all the goblin leaders, including Minthara and you know what, maybe she did think she did it, or maybe she noticed Minthara was still breathing and just kept her mouth shut and was like "Yup, they're all definitely dead" and time passes and she continues her adventures and all and is just wondering what happened to that drow lady who she left unconscious in a pile of dead goblins after having the most confusing interaction with in her entire life.

and then she finds that scary mean (and hot) drow lady again several days or even weeks later, after having some time to process her confused feelings and probable attraction, but resigning herself to it not being something that's gonna come up again

and when she meets Minthara again, who lived up to being all the terrifying things that she was supposed to be the first time meeting, Minthara's looking like
