At some point it hits Price. A simple idea, just two words, enough to make his life easier.

He's replaceable.

War will not be lost the minute he is gone, his squad won't stop fighting, the world won't end. Gaz will eventually grow into the best Captain out there, Soap will never stop coming up with new shenanigans, Ghost... Well, John is sure, legends around Ghosts figure will only continue to multiply. It's not, that Price will be immediately forgotten - but in some ways he'll just be replaced with a new man. And that's a good thing. Aging and moving further and further away from egocentrism, which used to make Price the key to the existence of the whole world, felt... calming. John wasn't trying to surrender, give up the fight, he just slowly, but surely broke free from anxiety. Every next deployment he took a step closer to death, and every time it felt a bit easier.

Price was somewhere deep inside his thoughts, when the entrance door of his secluded cabin creaked opening.

You enter, and thin tongues of blizzard crawl across the floor in the hallway after you, before the door slams shut. John hears you kicking off winter boots and unzipping a coat. In a few minutes, water flows from the kitchen tap and a bitter smell of rowan fills the air. Price smiles to a memory, awakened by this scent.

A few years ago, it was as cold outside as it is now. You brought a mug full of crimson berries that you had picked around his house.

“I swear, if you had told me earlier that you have a rowan growing here - I'd already live here."

"And here am I, an old fool plotting dates to win your interest," Price chuckles croaky and takes a pair of berries from the mug. He never actually tried a rowan berry before - always considered it non-edible. And when their viscous and unbearably bitter juice filled his mouth - Price coughs.

Your laughter echoes in every corner of the kitchen, it tickles something deep inside him. John used to suppress the feeling for years, but now, after years of denying the obvious, all the dancing around and a few innocent dates, he finally does it.

"Stop laughing, or I'm giving you a taste of your own medicine." He moves closer, completely ignoring your attempts to pull the mug away from him. Price doesn't need it - only your face not moving away, not leaning back.

Your first kiss tastes like smoke and rowan berries.

John presses himself to your back, warming you, his touch still sending shivers down to your core, even after these years you spent together.

"You like it here, love?" His velvety voice resonates deep inside your chest, making you melt in his hands.

You nod, not stopping washing the berries. Pale pink droplets glisten on the edges of the sink.

"Good... That's good." His beard lightly brushes against the back of your neck as Price leaves a trail of feather-light kisses. He pauses over your ear. "Because I want you to have this place, if anything happens to me."

You freeze. Of course, you know, what John's line of work looks like, what are his chances to not make it even till fifty. But what he is proposing right now is too much. It hurts even to think of such a perspective.

"No."

"Wait." Price makes you turn from the kitchen counter to him. He starts explaining, but you can't make out any sense of the words leaving his mouth. It some rubbish about you having to move on after he's gone, having this place to enjoy life, having to find someone to build a happy future with. The words stick together into a disgusting, meaningless mush, merging with the growing noise in your ears. You manage to grab onto one word. "Replaceable"

"John, stop!" You cup his face and bring it closer to yours. "Who said, you were 'replaceable'? Who said, I could ever let go of what we have, of what I feel, when I see you, or even just hear your voice. It took us both so much time to figure out our own feelings. And you say, I can replace it?"

He sighs deeply, ducks his head, hiding his face from you. The thought, John suppressed so hard, reemerging once again. For once, he wants, he needs to be a person that isn't so easily replaced. He wants to be your only one, your priority for life. He is afraid to let himself that... but he wants to be a person, you are scared to lose. This is so selfish, so ugly, he is ashamed to confess to you, that he actually has this wish.

Your lips, still cold after you came from the outside, are pressing against his forehead. Price freezes. This feels like a touch of a shooting star, crashing against his skin. One moment your lips feel chilly, the very next second his skin is burning under your touch. Maybe it's a shame, that made him blush. He doesn't care. All that's important to John now is you, crowning him with your kiss, letting him be your only one. Your irreplaceable person.

1943 Pt2 - Finding Sofia

The day every military wife dreads came one day in late summer. "Lucian what a lovely surprise. Can I get you some tea"

"No thank you, I'm not here long. I'm on my way back to Henford but I wanted to be the one to tell you."

He hesitated and Kailee's heart sank.

Kailee steeled herself and reached out a hand to encourage him. "I can handle it."

"I'm sure you know that Knox, William and Kye were all in the same squad. Well the squads MIA. Best case scenerio they're prisoner's of war. Worst case..."

"I understand. Thank you Lucian."

A shroud fell over Pigulock Manor after the news came. Each of the women coped in their own ways. Kailee threw herself harder into the community space, Lizbeth barely came out of her room and Anabelle threw herself into caring for the kids and drank herself to sleep every night.

Kailee found Anabelle in a drunken state one night, crying over a letter from Kye. "He asked me to marry him you know."

"What?"

"Yeah, in that letter you're holding. He said when he came home he wanted to make an honest woman out of me. I never gave him an answer."

"Why not?"

"It just never seemed like an option for us. I can't say yes when I can barely look at myself in the mirror."

After a few weeks of Kailee exchanging letters with a contact in Henford, she and Anabelle set up a meeting at the remodeled community center. They even managed to drag Lizbeth out of her room for the afternoon though they both quickly regretted it as she was hardly good company.

"Okay kids, you know the rules. Stay within the fenced area, no running, indoor voices and be respectful of those around you."

Once in Kailee's apartment Lizzie let out a long sigh, "I still can't believe you kept this fridge."

"It's functional and we had to make due."

Once the ladies had freshened up Kailee brought them down to the Green Room which she had reserved to meet her contact.

Sofia looked up at the pretty woman standing before her. The woman dropped to her knees in front of her taking her hand. "You're all grown up now." Anabelle's voice shook as she looked into her daughters green eyes. "I'm so sorry I missed it."

Sofia remained quiet throughout the entire ferry ride. She finally spoke when they arrived at Pigulock Manor.

"You live here?" Her voice was barely a squeek as she realized how close she had been to coming with Nikolas so many times.

"Yes, Sofia. This is your new home."

David had come a few months before to assist with the children and be by Lizbeth's side. Stefan hid nervously behind him as Anabelle and Sofia entered. "It's okay son, remember what I said, just give her a chance."

Sofia looked up at Anabelle nerviously, "Is that...my brother?"

David gave Stefan a small nudge. Anger filled him as he looked at Sofia. "NO! I hate this! You can't be my sister, I don't have a twin!"

the gureshin type of queerbaiting is just kinda clickbait. it's moments that seem so much like romantic indicators to someone that looks for them, but technically they can be seen as something else.

1. like this, for example.

anyone that knows the story and characters will think that there is literally no way she could mean herself with the "love" part. because we know guren pretty much despises her, and since she is his demon she knows, too. but someone who's not as interested in these certain characters will just shrug it off as that (and that's what it's probably designed for - if you like it you'll squeal about it but if you don't it's just not there for you).

this "it is definitely implying something but if you want to you can backpedal and interpret it as something else" happens a LOT, and it usually goes against the ons universe too if you interpret it the no-homo way.

2. next, the classic

we know demons sit inside of their hosts' mind and heart and know basically everything they feel and want. byakkomaru should know this.

if you're a casual reader, you'll see him making an assumption and said assumption getting denied (even though i'm pretty sure he didn't deny it in the original version), and that's the end of it. no implications.

but if you're like me and hyperfixated on this shitty half-romance, you'll see him trying to get something out of shinya, because 1. your brain (or heart idk i'm not a scientist) yearns for content and 2. it aligns with the universe more (e. g. shinya literally saying "you're my demon, you know that!" in this same chapter)

again, lure the fans out with bait but keep it safe in case some people don't like gays in their shounen. there's no way this isn't intentional.

because technically, as an author you know the phrase and its meaning, so it is definitely intentional as well. the situation also underlines this (the way it's written makes it seem like a reassuring type of confession, since it's right after kureto stressing guren out and the other squad members also pipe in with "we're here for you" after shinya drops the bomb). but if byakkomaru only touches upon these feelings eight years later, it's unlikely he was supposed to already have them at that time (although i do think he might not have had byakkomaru when the pool scene happened, and he just repressed everything so much it wasn't an obvious weak spot to his demon. im which case here, again, the full homo explanation makes more sense).

4. mahiru saying love will end the world in one of the catastrophe novels. because a fruity sixteen year old that needs therapy will go "omg gureshin!!" but since i don't know which world for 'love' was used in japanese it can probably just go towards the love guren holds towards his friends.

I really like ur hc for ur MCs. You did it well that one is an introvert and another is an extrovert, and my fav part is they seldom get other friends involved in to the curse breaking except the closest ones. I personally like this kind of relationship instead of forgetting about old friends when making new ones. Yes, I am so disappointed with the game!MC and I find it hard to like them.

I'm so glad you like it Anon. I've been wanting people to see this about my characters, and I'm so glad you do.

I don't like the way MC (or JC specifically) completely ignores their friends after certain years. Maybe it because it has happened to me, that someone I used to call a friend left me, and I know how it feels to be left alone, to be ignored. And it's not nice. It's not nice at all.

It's not because that's how I want my characters to act because of my desires, that's just how they are.

They have their reasons, and I'm explaining them right now xd

Candy always has trouble making friends due to her reserved personality. She usually won't talk or get close to anyone in order to meet them, so other people usually have to do it. But when it comes to Rowan and Ben, Candy's been able to connect with them in such a deep, emotional way she can't be without them. They understand her problems and her weirdness, they don't laugh at her, she can be herself without worrying about anything. And that, for her, is very important.

And they're both the first friends she's ever had. Without them she couldn't have gone through her first year of school. And it feels like the three of them are in this mess together, breaking curses and solving mysteries, while they still hang around.

Of course Candy made other friends like Tulip, Talbott, Jae or Badeea, but it's not the same as being with Rowan and Ben. They know what she's going through, because they've seen it ever since they got there. She could never leave them behind, she could never ignore them the way MC does, she always thinks of them, not just because of Vault-related stuff.

Candy could never trust other people with something so delicated as the Cursed Vaults, other than her sister, Rowan and Ben. Of course the Cursed Vault squad is still there, helping the sisters whenever they can.

Now talking about Paula, the extrovert. She has a LOT of friends, and when I say a lot I mean it. She loves socializing, learning about other people and befriending them. But still, she has her walls.

She won't let anyone she doesn't know perfectly get involved in the Cursed Vaults. She's like a selfless hero, she wants to do it on her own as she'll never forgive herself if someone gets hurt. Also, it's a family-related thing. Their brother is lost, so their family has to find them.

Paula is currently more popular than Candy, but still, they're both known to be THE cursebreakers. Some friends of Paula who are the same year as her had asked her if they could accompany her to her adventures, since it could be endangering and fun. But it's not. Paula doesn't take it as a joke. She gets really mad when someone doesn't take it seriously.

Maybe there's a person other than her sister Paula can trust? Something like that. Paula sure has a really cool rivalry with Merula, they always fight and compete with eachother. But Merula seems to know what she's doing with the Curaed Vaults. In Year 5 they team up and go solving the mysteries of the next Vaults they're going to get into. Paula would like Merula to leave as she only cares about the treasures, or so she thinks, but she won't ignore Merula has been a huge help to them.

But what about Rowan and Ben? They're not family. They're excluded from this rule since Candy NEEDS them to be there. There was a bit of an argument about this, but eventually, Paula let them be an important part of the curse breaking business.

Another person that is involved in this, is Barnaby. He's Paula most clostest friend, and the one she can trust entirely. The relationship they have is pretty special, and intimate. People know they hang out, but it's more than that. Paula, a person who won't show its insecurities due to her pride, can tell him everything. She can tell him her problems and know she won't be laughed at, he's understanding and will advice her any way she can. And of course Paula does the same for him, she'll help him the same way she helps them.

Other people she can trusts are Tonks and Diego (yeah all Hufflepuffs, funny coincidence right?), but not in the same degree as Barnaby. They both still help her with the Cursed Vaults, and she loves hanging out with them.

Are you apart of the Ben defense squad?

I used to be. These days, it's not so much that I've turned on Ben, so much as I'm not as fond of him as I once was, and I also feel like he doesn't need defending nearly as much.

In Years 1-5, he was like Neville. An innocent and scared kid in way over his head. Who had true potential and true courage buried deep down, but it was constantly buried deeper by the circumstances and characters. I love Rowan to pieces, I do, but this was something they played a major part in. In my opinion, their suspicion of Ben had no basis. So he doesn't remember his missing time, why wouldn't we believe that? Especially since there's a well-established Charm that could have caused that? When he was unmasked as The Red Cloak, I did not believe it. The whole thing felt off to be, the words "Set up" kept ringing in my head as Ben pleaded for mercy. I knew someone was arranging for him to be the fall guy. And when he protected MC from the second Red Cloak? (Who I always just assumed to be an Imperius'd Rowan, but in hindsight, I suppose it could have been Merula.) Dude, I was Team Ben all the way.

Then Year 6 happened. Then "New Ben" happened.

Look, he grew on me. He did. I grew more used to his new personality and he mellowed out a bit with time. And it's not like I don't appreciate character development in stories, between Ben, Merula, and Beatrice, Year 6 arguably had more character development than any other Year. Still, that didn't change how New Ben read to me, and he was annoying on several levels. First of all, he just wasn't a very nice person. I don't care if you want to prove you're tough. Hexing an acromantula is literally animal abuse, Ben. Stop it. Just stop it. But beyond that, it's also mind-numbingly stupid to pick a fight with an XXXXX classified creature that can and does eat humans. For a large portion of Year 6, Ben is just asking to get himself killed, and I don't need the gray hairs that come with trying to protect him, especially since he rejects the protection. It's just such a stark difference to how he behaved before as well. He was getting better, before Rowan's death understandably set him back several paces. These days, he has matured a little bit more, but he's still doing stupid things. On some level, it feels like he's finally able to embrace his true potential without nerves...but on another level, it feels like he's just posturing. Trying to be something he isn't, to fake it until he makes it.

I don't hate New Ben, if anything I truly appreciate the direction they've taken his character, he really stands out now from the likes of Neville and Wormtail. But as a person, I'm not sure New Ben is the sort of guy that Luca would want to hang out with all of the time. They're drawn to people who remind them of Jacob, but Ben used to remind Luca of them-self, and it's just a very weird transition to watch happen so abruptly.

you know, reading about MC distancing themself from Rowan Never Would not be a total pain for me, Like, The Friendship between MC and Rowan showed in screen was always so wholesome but Yet so sad, because You really don't have an option to keep your Friendship with Them, because The Writing Of The game makes You simply be distant from them. The only thing that makes have a little hope for Rowan It's The Fanfic says loosely follows plot till Year 6 and The Fictober was created I Think Before “that” chapter. God, It's just a paragraph and I'm really thinking in that.

DAMN. For Some reason I never really expected Bellatrix to being mentioned and just gonna Say Poor Tonks, Like in-game She has a Easy going Personality but It's really concerning when You remember What happens and What She dealts with. And can I just Say The Headcannon Of her hating her real face because resembles Bellatrix makes Perfect sense and It's so Beautiful in a really angsty and murky kind Of way? Because It's similar that happens to One Of my Oc's, She has a trauma related to her twin sister that's The reason She has eisotrophobia (Fear to The reflection on The mirror) because She always sees her Twins face and The worst Part Is her Mother stills confusing Them because Never expected The day She Will see The Twins Split up. It's a Story I Thought when I was with my psychologist.

I love The saltiness Of Luca to Dumbledore, It's... actually Pretty Understandable, Dumbledore in The Books was already Shady and The most funny part It's probably Rowling didn't even wanted him to come off as that, Why then make The main Character, One Of The principal victims of Albus, give His name to His son? and in Hphm Albus It's still a manipulator but Like a Dumb manipulator, In The game it's More apparent that He's a Shady person and It's not half as subtle as it Was in The whole series. Having that, I Think It's really satisfying seeing a HP Protagonist actually face him off and see who he actually Is.

Luca is a total softie for Merula, They're really adorable.

Oh my good friend, I am the last person to complain about late comments right now, believe me. You won’t hear any objections from me because I’ve been responding at a snail’s pace myself (and my beloved anons have been so very patient) and because no matter how long it may take for whatever reason, I am always delighted to hear from you, so thank you for making my day! 

Trust me, the bit about Rowan bothers me as well. I wanted to incorporate the “Rowan is R” theory because it’s almost a little ridiculous that no one in-game brings up the possibility until the middle of Year 5, when MC has known about R since the start of Year 2. Like, I wanted to acknowledge it. Plus I think it can give a good in-universe explanation for the distance between MC and Rowan beyond the horribly cynical idea that MC outgrew them, which I flat out refuse to accept. Luca would never, could never, leave Rowan behind like that for something so shallow. As for what is to come...well, I suppose you’ll just have to see! You are right though, I think we were like, nine or ten chapters into Year 6 at the point I was writing this. 

I have so many headcanons about Tonks and as I went through Luca’s story, I realized that I could absolutely incorporate them. Because she’s canon, she’s one of those characters that it’s easy to forget about or take for granted in the background, but hey - she’s in Luca’s House, part of the best friend squad they formed in Chapter 6, and is one of their roommates on most nights. Plus Luca has a curious tendency to bond with the wildly chaotic types, so of course Tonks would be one of their closest friends. Can I further say that the whole concept you just described about the twins is fantastic and hella chilling? I would read about that. I would read a whole book about that. 

Oh, you like Luca’s displeasure with Dumbledore? Hmm, methinks you’re going to like some of the future chapters then...Truly, I didn’t originally intend for this to be an aspect of their character, but the whole incident with them being punished for dueling Merula in Year 1 really stuck with them somehow. It’s very much something that they inherit from me, the criticisms of Dumbledore, but I never realized that a character this soft would inherit them. Fun fact: I used to have a different MC who basically morphed into my iteration of Jacob that always hated Dumbledore because they were just like him and saw him for what he was, one manipulator to another. In general, I have to applaud what this game has done with him because he’s one hundred percent in character - hence why he enrages me so much. 

See, see now I’m curious what inspired you to scream. Part of me wants to guess, the other half of me doesn’t want to be presumptuous or pompous. Either way, I’m glad to have gotten such reactions! In any case, thank you so much for what you said about Luca and Merula and the Patronus scene. It means a lot to me because with Luca I basically tried my hand at writing a character with a debilitating mental illness, (a fictional one, obviously) and I wasn’t sure if it landed well or not. One thing I feel very strongly about is MC and Merula’s bond, especially this MC. Luca is the one who picked the “We can talk this out” option at the start and never wavered from that. I’m not even gonna lie, I’ve gone back and forth a lot on what Luca’s Patronus would be, but this is a good one for them because it reflects the people in their life that they love. Not just Mitten, but Merula as well. (She’s a cat for sure.)
