Very small piece overshadowed by everything else but I full almost cried at Elgin's line here. Service to others and service to a cause you believe in as service to yourself. Not working for anyone else but dedicating yourself to your work and your community because you want to, because it matters to you. So fucking true. Anyway totally unrelated hc that definitely isn't me projecting I think Elgin's butch
[Image ID: A screenshot of The Silt Verses transcript. It reads
"PAIGE stares at her. She's genuinely touched.
PAIGE: Do you do anything for yourself, Elgin?
ELGIN: (Almost surprised by the question) All of this has been for me. You know that Paige, don't you?"
End ID]

"best genderbent character fanarts are when they look exactly the same" so true and I love this forever and I understand this sentiment being pushed in direct opposition to fanart that completely removes a male character's specific traits to make them Generic Hot Woman but as someone who likes to think way too much about character designs my ideal is that one day I see genderbent posts that are in the happy middle where there's changes but they were made with actual thought

when it's been so long since you've read a fic that you forget about it and you find it in the search tags and start reading it again
and it's great, if a little familiar, but you've read a lot of these sorts of fics bc you like this tag a lot, so you assume it's nothing
but then the deja vu starts adding up and you start to wonder
and then moments before the great big Plot Twist Reveal happens you're suddenly like ah hell this is the bloody sundial fic again isn't it
smh this has to be the fourth time yet

sometimes i think freakblr tries too hard to be iconic like. people actively try and force fun things to happen, which makes them unfun.
things like scheduled wars make everything too predictable. if you set a date for a war there isnt the aspect of it happening naturally and stuff like that happening naturally makes it less controlled. now that theres scheduled dates for wars, the wars just feel too controlled and planned out, which is boring.
people are also now purposely aiming to get on freakblr lore instead of letting funny moments happen regularly. its less memorable to do something just to make it a freakblr thing instead of doing something that you look back on and think is funny.
freakblr feels too meta tbh
of course i dont wanna bring down people of freakblr who enjoy these things or do these things, you do you! if its fun to you, thats great and i wont try and say you shouldnt have fun. but what im saying is that i personally just dont find planned shenanigans fun. i miss when people would just go with the flow and let things happen naturally in freakblr instead of pushing it too hard. it kinda seperates me from the tmf communtiy on here cause its just so forced and i dont feel interested. does that all make sense?
thats just my opinion tho. no hate to people who enjoy these things, keep on doing freakblr how you want. youve got free will.
huh you sound familiar

was the advert really queerbaiting?? i haven't seen it yet
I used queerbaiting but I'll concede I'm not certain it's the exact phrase I want because there's two separate issues I have with it.
There's a very lazy "lol they're gay" joke in there which, yes, I understand its supposed to be a joke. "Daniel already had his eyes on a sturdy thoroughbred, with perfect symmetry, powerful thighs, flowing mane, with a kind heart hidden behind a steely exterior" - while the camera pans up Josh Allen's body and implies Daniel's checking him out. Hilarious. But considering they both come from sports where there is very little acceptance for queer competitors, and where an ACTUAL gay competitor wouldn't be able to make comments/insinuations like that for fear of repercussions - especially in the current climate - idk, it feels a bit reductive watching two het guys do it for shits and giggles to sell some overpriced headphones?
Then there's the RPF angle too. A space that's largely occupied by women in fandom spaces, and that they're frequently harassed, mocked and undermined for. Is it mocking that approach to fandom or is it endorsing it? Its hard to tell, but it's certainly profiteering off of it, and for the same reasons we criticise team social media accounts for crossing a line, this absolutely is just leaning into very muddy water. It just feels very tone deaf and idk that it's a great idea. We're in 2024, surely big multinational marketing agencies can come up with something a bit better than 'lets just do some suggestive double entendre shit with homoerotic undertones'??

Pro tip: if you want to get a bunch of blood tests and a urine test and a chest x-ray done for any reason, just casually say you were wondering about doing some bloodwork since it's been a little bit plus you've been having some night sweats recently, and then you get everything thrown at the wall...
Looking at the lab bill, the tests are for: a “general health panel," CRP levels, HIV, tuberculosis, HGB levels, glucose levels, and a urinalysis. And then the chest x-ray is separate.
But also, even with insurance, my estimate is over $100 for all that lab work lol. (yay american healthcare...) And I think the x-ray will be about $37 if it's the same price as the one I just got for my rib injury less than a month ago... But she said she wants a different type (angle?) since she's looking at my organs rather than bones.

I'm gonna say something controversial and I don't care what y'all think of me after because a) I'm right and b) it's called a difference of opinion
twenty one pilots first 2 albums (self titled and vessel) were genuinely beautiful works of art and it was honestly really fucking weird that everyone decided they were Problematique because they "made music to profit off mentally ill people" as if they couldn't just be mentally ill people making art for themselves and the people like them. also there's no way you can listen to oh miss believer and not be moved
