All the boys have done well. The assignment was to serve music, and they’ve all delivered. Some songs are more my taste than others, but I can acknowledge the work they’ve all done and I respect it.

I’ve seen chatter here and there about how Jungkook isn’t mature in his interview answers. About how he apparently comes across as a clueless puppet who can’t articulate his views eloquently, but like I said about the discourse around Jimin’s apparent lack of contribution to BTS, or Jin’s apparent lack of skill - sometimes that criticism is warranted, but most of the time people who say things like this frankly have no idea what they’re talking about.

A few of you have sent me asks months back, to give my view on Jungkook the way I’ve done about Jimin, Yoongi, Hoseok etc recently. I didn’t answer because I was waiting for Golden. Now that the album’s out, I’m sitting with it and will respond to those asks before too long.

In my draft reply to the asks wanting me to talk about Jungkook, I start with saying he’s a very simple person. That’s both his charm and the thing that confuses a lot of people about him, because many of us are anything but simple, so when faced with a man like him living the life he’s living, some people respond with suspicion or bewilderment.

JD kind of expects Pop Trolls to know and even like Brozone - after all they were probably Pop's most popular band. He quickly comes to the realization that other types of trolls don't know Brozone, he may or may not introduce them. He's very proud of his brother's accomplishments and talents in the band, even if things went wrong.

However, I don't think he'd have a super easy time realizing/thinking that other beings outside of trolls know about Brozone, much less listen to them. But he would be happy about it because of course he would. He loves that people love Brozone.

He not only was IN the boyband, but he wrote all the songs, lyrics and parts for each specific brother, who had different skill sets and ranges, something he would have to keep in mind. A lot of work goes into something like that - with parts that can work cohesively together.

So when Floyd tells him his college spent a week talking about and analyzing Brozone songs and performances - JD thinks it's kind of a joke. Not in a haha, don't be mean Floyd kind of way but a LOL that's a good joke Floyd kind of way.

He's SO used to writing, that's kind of how it ends up being expressive for him.

He writes a whole album + of sad songs solely because Clay yelled he was in a sad book club. JD had both very sharp and also very fuzzy memories of the fight. He remembers a lot of words and specific phrases but movements and images are kind of fuzzy to him. This is kind of a side effect of almost dying the first time he left.

If I am ever able to really write down a good scenario of JD finding out about Brozone's popularity - and his esteem - in colleges and stuff, I absolutely will.

Deciding to go on a hiatus, was probably the hardest decision you had to take. It's not that you didn't want to stop, but as of right now you just couldn't. You knew you had to give interviews as part of the promotion for the album, but you were not excited about it. While you were in the band, it was fun. You were never alone, always with at least one of the boys if not all of them. You made jokes and you relied on each other. But now, you were going to have to face it all alone. The first week of the promo went by quickly you were excited. to perform for the fans, the journalists were nice enough, so it was a good start. ever since i read the news about the album being in full english (or at least the people involved will be completely english speaking) uggggh i've just been so 😑. of course i understand where you're coming from about feeling guilty about not liking his music. i feel the same way sometimes. whenever he does or releases smth that makes people scream how much they love it, i'm just sitting there talking to myself like yo why r u such a party pooper. and then it's just a little sad and beyond disappointing bc this is the opposite of what i was hoping for lmao

honestly, at the end of the day, it's fine. the fandom experience is supposed to serve us too, to make us feel comforted and happy. if you don't like smth, don't let people bully you into thinking you're alone and weird in having whatever opinions that you have

camellia ⇢ what were you like when you were younger? do you think you’ve changed a lot?

whoa this is gonna get heavy, so i’m warning everyone reading this beforehand. things have changed for sure, i’d say... but it’s hard to point it out exactly. my younger self went through a whole different spectrum of human experiences. things were... nice(?) when i was a literal child, but it got gradually worse, worse and worse to the point where i moved out at the age of 17 and started living in a dorm in a different town. younger me was incredibly strong willed, hardworking and hopeful. i still find it super crazy how i got through everything i did and that i’m still here, surviving. younger me had so many big dreams and was motivated to follow through. i was also a bit naive, and i struggled a lot with determining characters, so i ended up getting even more hurt trying to maintain friendships with the wrong people and such. it’s not the same anymore with these things... my mental health has been a constant issue since mid-2019 (although, i must say that i’m doing a LOT better now — people who’ve been here for a while would know), and the world just kinda turned black & white... i think a lot of young adults feel the same though. i’m also super cautious about making connections with people now, which has been... idk, both good and bad? like sure, i’m a pretty lonely being, but at least i’m not hurting for people who don’t deserve me! also, it all just crashed down with the pandemic, y’know? it’s hard to say how much i’ve exactly changed, because i was brought up in a situation where i was forced to mature very early. and to be uncomfortably honest, i might seem a bit childish when i get comfortable around someone. guess i had suppressed my inner child too much with everything going on, and whenever a comforting/reliable presence comes along, it resurfaces 😅. anyway, i’m still very very proud of the younger aleyna. i wish i could hug her and tell her how amazing she is, how thankful i am for everything she did that led to me being here (in a relatively stable position) now, how the lessons she learnt through hardships made it easier for me to navigate through this complicated world... the list is endless. i just hope that a few years from now on, i can look back to this self (my late teenage years and early twenties) and feel just as proud for doing whatever i am doing right now ☺️

the song which came up this time is “to you” by seventeen. i, genuinely am, in love with this song. have been that way since it was released in 2021. see, i got into kpop back in 2019 through bts and twice (good times)! and it took me a lot of time to actually branch out from that starting point — txt playing a big role in it because i was obsessed with run away when it came out (still my fav title track by them). i came to know about seventeen on 2020 when left & right came out, and i loved it! but i didn’t exactly go straight to “stanning”, i just added them on spotify and just vibed along whenever it came up. after that it’s mostly a blur with svt for several reasons. until attacca came out on late 2021, i saw the rock with you mv, and was like: HOLD THE FUCK UP I NEED TO GET INTO THIS SHIT IMMEDIATELY?! i remember doing everything i possibly could (following their socials and stuff, adding all their albums to my spotify library, etc.)... believe me or not, it took me almost 7 months to catch up with all the content i wanted to check out. and well, the rest, i’m sure you can see/guess. about “to you” specifically though, my first impression was — “is it legal for a song to be this good?! did they put drugs in it or something 😭?” and it’s still the same. “to you” is a work of art, one that made me feel emotions i thought i’m not capable/eligible of feeling. i love attacca the mini album so much, from the top to bottom. what a gem!

Hi Amber! I went to the Harry concert in Cologne and I was a little sad/disappointed because compared to my last Harry show (2018 in Oberhausen in Germany) there were a lot less rainbows flags? Is this something you noticed as well? (And then I am also a little bit in my feelings because well for me so much of fandom has changed even if you just compare now to the beginning of everyone's solo career and not even the band)

oh for sure! this was the first thing amber and I said to each other when we arrived in antwerp at our first gig. I don’t think any of the queer fans or rainbow flag waving fans have disappeared, they’re still big in numbers, but harry has… well, he’s mainstream now, isn’t he? everyone and their mother has listened to harry’s house. my coworkers listen to his album, everyone was jealous I was seeing him and asked how the fuck I got tickets whereas in 2017-2018 and before it was still a bit odd to love harry that much. he was that dude from one direction, aren’t you too old to be into one direction? shit like that. which was stupid, naturally, and incredibly annoying, but it was the general view people had of him.

and now he’s one of the biggest stars on the planet and I’m incredibly proud of him and he still ensures that his gigs are a safe space (I truly have not felt anything like it, even Louis was different. I love Louis and he’s very inclusive and the crowd was very queer but the energy isn’t the same), but it comes with… well, with a different kind of person going to see him in concert. and I think now the focus isn’t so much on the rainbow flags, the focus is on the fashion of it all. I’m from the Netherlands and we have a group called de Toppers and they love themselves some pink, glitter and feather boas, and they fill stadiums with their audience dressed like that, and YET I have never seen more pink feathers on the streets in the city than I did during Harry.

for what it’s worth, the Amsterdam show was still VERY rainbow oriented and felt like the 2018 shows, so I think it also depends on the city you’re in, but in Antwerp I was very disappointed as well. And I think, additionally… many of our original crew were responsible for the rainbow projects, yeah? Like the rainbow project for Cologne in late 2017 was fully organised by friends of mine (idk if they feel comfortable with me tagging them) and they’re both not really in the fandom anymore, or not active enough to do something like that again, and I think that’s the case for a lot of people. Not that they turned their back on him, just… circumstances change. And the combination of these factors just… yeah.

Anyways. I totally get you and I agree, is what I was trying to say in a very long winded way dndnd, and I also felt a bit nostalgic and melancholic while it simultaneously felt so good to be back? COVID’s changed a lot, man, everything’s the same but different, it’s very odd. I hope you had a great time at Harry’s show nonetheless, though!

Album review time 👹

Today lads we are talking about ATEEZ’s comeback with THE WORLD EP.1 : MOVEMENT with the title track GUERRILLA

Now idk a lot about Ateez aside from them sharing producers with Dreamcatcher and them being funky dudes, I’ve liked a couple of their songs here and there but generally they aren’t really my style, and when I listened to the highlight medley for this album I was worried I wouldn’t like it but I was actually pleasantly surprised so here we go:

First immediate thoughts that aren’t song related is that the theme of this album is something Muse would be proud of and that’s kind of slay

PROPAGANDA: 8/10 - okay this is an intro! Not much to say but it goes hard icl oooo!! The guitar!!

Sector 1: 5/10 - starts out quite mellow, builds into a heavy chanting chorus. Don’t think this one is for me I’m ngl, seems pretty standard for a like edm style song, idk something felt missing 😭

Cyberpunk: 9/10 - ooo!! Synths!! OMG THE DOWNWARD MELODIES HELL YEAH a much better build into that chorus. The softer mumbling style rap was a great change up for after the chorus! God I am such a sucker for a strip back of the instrumental before the final chorus. Okay I love this

Guerrilla: 9.5/10 - very hard hitting right away, short pre-chorus but it hit! The guitars are so good. I just wish that Jongho’s little WAAAAA AAAAAA part went x3 instead of x2 it would be the perfect brain itch then but it leaves it feeling incomplete 😭 the chanting in this chorus is done a lot better!! Oooo the bridge goes so hard, the fake out before the dance break omg!! Slayed

The Ring: 6/10 - oooo the pre-chorus in this is heavenly. Not sure how I feel about the chorus tho, the like stop/start part wasn’t feeling that. Second verse goes hard tho! Okay pre-chorus best part of this song. Second chorus hits better did they add in a fucking organ or that last part??

WDIG (Where Do I Go): 7/10 - head bopping right away ngl, wasn’t a fan of the vocal effects in the first verse, OOO that chorus is interesting (in a good way that is)!! The beat behind the pre-chorus goes hard!

New World: 9/10 - the instrumental of this one especially at the beginning reminds me of a dreamcatcher song and I cannot for the life of me figure out which one. Anyways that’s not really important. THIS IS GOING SO HARD, you could tell me this was an anime intro and I’d be like “yeah that makes sense” OPEN UP YOUR EYES OPEN UP YOUR EYES OPEN UP YOUR MIND OPEN UP YOUR MIND WHOLE NEW WORRRRLLLDDD. God the electric guitar didn’t have to go so hard!!
