Lazy Sunday with Simon

He usually wakes up at 6 a.m., regardless of the day of the week. You’ve always marvelled at this trait, secretly envious of his ability to jump out of bed immediately. You wonder if he’s a morning person by nature or if his past military training instilled this reflex. Regardless, you rarely wake up at the same time. And on the rare occasion that you do so, he’s eager to get up as soon as possible, as though laying in bed simply served his survival needs for sleep and nothing else.

But today is different. It’s almost 9 a.m., and you sit on your shared bed, watching him sleep. His chest rises and falls, and you mimic his breath, momentarily experiencing life from his perspective.

As you shuffle to retrieve something from your bedside drawer, he stirs and wakes up.

“Shit!” He curses, shooting up like a spring.

“Simon,” you say to him, your hand halfway to the drawer, “it’s Sunday.”

He checks his phone to confirm your statement, then sighs. Rubbing his eyes, he turns to look at you.

“Good morning,” he says sheepishly.

“Morning,” you respond with a chuckle.

He crawls over to your side of the bed and kisses your lips.

“You, sir, need a shave,” you tease, gesturing to his stubble.

He rubs his chin. “I do, don’t I?” he admits, rising from the bed and heading to the bathroom.

You hear the sound of the toilet flushing, the faucet running, and teeth brushing, followed by a silence that makes you tune in. You can listen to him unscrewing the cap of his shaving cream, whistling as he applies it to his face.

You rise from the bed and enter the bathroom. Simon catches your eye in the mirror’s reflection and raises an eyebrow.

“This room ain’t big enough for the both of us,” he quips, mimicking Nick Grindell from The Western Code.

You smile and press against his back, wrapping your arms around him. “Looks like there’s enough room now,” you say playfully.

He resumes shaving, and you watch him closely; tiny strokes with the razor, then a rinse and repeat.

“Can I try?” you ask, and he stops mid-stroke to look at you.

“I don’t know, can you?” he teases.

“I’ve shaved my legs before,” you reply.

“Exactly,” he emphasizes, “your legs, not my face.” But he hands you the razor anyway and instructs you on how to proceed.

You seem to be doing fine until he suddenly jerks back from the razor and lets out a yell. You panic, but he quickly bursts out laughing.

“Asshole!” you exclaim. “I thought I cut you!”

“That was the point, love,” he chuckles. “You should have seen your face.”

“And you should have seen your face if I had actually cut you!” you quip, brandishing the razor in mock threat.

No matter how long you two live together, he remains his old, caustic self. He is kind and gentle, except when pulling one of his “jokes.” You’ve had to learn to adapt to his sense of humour.

You announce that you’d go to the kitchen to get breakfast started while he keeps on shaving, and he gives you a thumbs up.

As the kettle on the stove begins to whistle, you deftly mix the pancake batter. He approaches you and stands beside you, watching you whisk.

“You shouldn’t be doing that,” he comments, gesturing towards the bowl.

“Whisking batter?” you question, eyebrows raised.

“You shouldn’t be doing pancakes in general,” he elaborates, lifting his shirt to reveal a hint of a soft belly. “Look.” He says and gives it a slap.

He has put on some weight after leaving the army, but this didn’t bother you as much as it bothered him. The weight gain was not the real issue but rather a manifestation of how he felt - insignificant. He didn’t talk about it directly, but it showed up in other ways. Mumbling to himself while watching the news, for example, reciting what his team would have done differently in that case. Or by reflecting on how he could have helped in recent disasters while discussing with your friends. In this case, it manifested in the form of fishing for compliments.

“You look fine.” You comment, but he rolls his eyes.

“No, I don’t,” he says, “stop lying.”

“Hey,” you wave the whisk at his face, “I never lie, ok?”

He shoots his arms in the air. “First the razor, now the whisk,” he says, “you’re too aggressive today, don’t you think?”

“I like you, no matter what. Understood?” You keep threatening him, and, with a manoeuvre, he takes the whisk off your hands to continue the mixing.

You prepare the table, and he serves the pancakes he cooked. You both sit down at the table, enjoying your breakfast. As you eat, your mind keeps going back to your previous conversation.

“Hey, I was thinking,” you say between bites. “There’s a veterans’ group in town that meets every week. Maybe you could check it out?”

He looks up from his plate and then shakes his head. “No,” he states.

“Why not?” You ask, “it could be good for you to connect with other veterans and share your experiences rather than arguing with the TV.”

He keeps staring at you, and you’re unsure if he feels exposed or contemplates your idea.

“There are other people like you, Simon,” you explain, “good people who went through similar things.”

He shrugs and takes another bite. “What do they do in that group?” He asks.

“I don’t know,” you reply, “but I can find out if you want.”

“No,” he shakes his head, “I’ll do that.”

You smile. “That’s great,” you say, relieved, “I think it could really help you.”

He nods and takes another bite. The two of you continue eating and talking, enjoying the simple pleasure of a warm, late breakfast.

You both lay sprawled on your living room couch. You’re glued to the TV, binging on the new season of “Love is Blind,” while he lies next to you, engrossed in a book.

You notice his eyes flickering towards the screen occasionally, but he tries to hide it. You catch him peeking again and can’t resist poking fun at him.

“Interested, I see?” You ask with a smirk.

“What the fuck is that?” he asks you back with a sneer.

“It’s a reality show,” you explain, gesturing towards the screen. “People date each other in these rooms called ‘pods’ without seeing each other.”

“Huh,” Simon scoffs, “and how do they meet?”

“One proposes, and if the other accepts, they finally meet.”

He puts down his book, stares at the screen, and then back at you.

“Like a marriage proposal?” He asks with raised eyebrows, and you nod.

“You’re kidding,” he states in disbelief.

“No,” you shake your head, giggling, “I’m afraid I’m not.”

He opens up his book again and shakes his head. “What a load of bullshit,” he grumbles.

But as the episodes keep rolling, you can see his resistance slowly crumbling. His book is closed for good now and placed on the side table next to him. “What a load of bullshit” has now turned into “what a fucking nob head!” and “can you believe them?!”

And as the day turns into dusk and the marathon draws ungracefully to an end, he waves his finger at the TV.

“Put the next episode!” he orders.

“It’s not aired yet.”

Simon’s face contorts into a look of pure shock and horror, and you stifle a laugh.

“You can’t be serious, love!” he yells. “When are the next ones supposed to be aired?”

“In two weeks, Si-”

“TWO WEEKS?” he exclaims in a high-pitched voice. “What are we supposed to do for two weeks?!”

“There are three more seasons before this o- “

“Now!” He commands, slapping the cushion with enthusiasm. “Put. The first. Season. Now!”

He had willingly come down to Florida to watch the Eastern Conference Final with you and spend some time here with Matthew and his family. At that same moment you heard the door open and in came your boyfriend with what seemed like enough food to feed the whole apartment complex. “I got a little bit of everything for us.” He told you as he set everything on the table. “Babe, there’s three of us.” A laugh left your lips as he gave you a quick kiss to the top of your head, the way he always greeted you regardless of how long it had been since the last time he saw you.

You all sat down at the table, grabbing different containers of food and enjoying the deliciousness of it. Connor took this time to finally speak up. “So Matthew, I heard my sister was planning on moving down here with you.” Your stomach did a flip because was he about to just freak out on your boyfriend about this. “Yeah, we talked about it but we also thought that for the summers and off season we could go up there to spend time with your family and mine.”

That was one thing you hadn’t mentioned to Connor because of the way he had originally reacted but you could tell what Matthew had said was enough to soften the whole blow of you moving away from your family. “Well, I guess all I can say is you better take care of her and don’t think that next season I’ll take it easy on you just because you’re dating my sister.”

colinjamie have definitely watched the owl house at some point. maybe this is fresh in my head since the final episode just came out a few days ago, but i definitely see colinjamie watching the owl house together. two options:

maybe colin was chilling with his niece (i want colin to have a niece or a nephew so bad, he gives uncle vibes and also i want jamie to interact with the kid at some point too) and she was watching it and he got invested. and then jamie got invested via colin. Thinking about the Ta-Metru Trio

Like, if Vakama wasn't a Toa, the three of them would be together

In Vakama's place, Nuhrii would be chosen instead, which is totally fine by Vakama because he's happy being a mask-maker. So the Toa Metru have Nuhrii as their Toa of Fire and Vakama is still a Matoran

Finding the Great Disks takes longer for the Toa to do, mainly because they try fighting the Morbuzakh wothout the Disks and learn they should start looking for them after some run-ins with other Matoran like Ahkmmou and Vhisola and learn they actually should start looking for the disks

Also learning to find the disks is Vakama because he has a vision of the Toa failing their mission and dying without the disks. He ultimately goes to look for them, but Takua and Jaller join him because they're great friends like that

Nuhrii finds Vakama as he tries to find the disk, and tries chewing him out for it, saying he can have all the glory he wants, but he will not ruin Nuhrii’s becoming a Toa and take the Great Disk from him. Vakama is dumbfounded and tells Nuhrii he's perfectly fine to have the Great Disk, but he'll have to know where to find it. Nuhrii doesn't know, but asks Vakama if he knows, and gets snide when Vakama admits he has an idea of where it is. It makes Takua and Jaller spring to Vakama's defense and while they aren't 100% sure either, they're still with him because, lest Nuhrii forget, he made their friend a nervous wreck and lose sleep on more than one occasion and they wouldn't trust him with a sleeping lava eel

Regardless, Nuhrii finds his disk and reluctantly brings all three Matoran back with him, because of the previously mentioned reasons

When the Toa reveal their Great Disks to Dume and explain their deeds, they're still not believed, only when the Toa give their disks to Nuhrii, he finds Vakama and gives them to him, bitter at believing his student and getting screwed over because of it

Little does he know that Vakama makes the Mask of Time and has it hidden on him when he, Takua, and Jaller are rounded up by Vahki and ordered to go to the Coliseum

Unfortunately, the three do end up in Matoran spheres and lose their memories of Metru Nui, but they remain friends on Mata Nui, Vakama being a very skilled, much more patient mask-maker and mentor for other Matoran who need to learn how to fix tools, armor, and masks. Jaller does get the Hua nask, like before, but when the three realize Vakama has the Mask of Time on him, none of them know what it is, they discreetly take it to Turaga Nokama for answers. She's surprised to see it's the Mask of Time, asking Vakama how he found it. They take it to a wiser, more experienced Nuhrii, and he asks when Vakama made it, to which Vakama has no memory

Takua, Jaller, and Vakama search for the Mask of Light, though Vakama's going so the two don't get killed. Maybe while they're heading to find the Seventh Toa, Vakama is making a new mask, one that goes with the Mask of Time

It's not completed during the mission, but when Takua leaves, having spoken with the Makuta Teridax, Vakama stays with Jaller, as Pewku has left with Takua. Luckily, the friends reunite and continue searching, learning that the Rahkshi aren't after the mask, but the herald of the mask

The mask Vakama makes ultimately comes into play after Takanuva is made the seventh Toa and the Matoran return to Metru Nui, more specifically when the Toa Ignika are made. Rather than an organic mask, Vakama wears the two halves of the Kanohi Vahi and is the Toa of Time

Idk, I miss talking about my boys and all three being Toa and fighting together because Teridax's biggest threats were right under his nose and he didn't see them is SENDING me

❣ Who is your favorite Kpop group?❣

My favourite and really only group is BTS. My sisters a big fan and introduced me to them. They got me on their personalities which I got to know through Run and then I learned some songs. I still watch and read more than I actually listen 😂

❣ Which member sparked your interest first?

Okay I will be 100% honest and it's Tae. He's sooooo pretty. That's what got me first. I could also say Namjoon, simply because he was the first person I recognised and knew by face and name.

❣ Who was your first bias?

This would surprise no one after the last question, but Tae was my first bias. Also simply because he is so godsdamned pretty. Like I can't even express in any way I know how how pretty this man is en how much I would not he able to look at him because of this too.

❣ Who is your current bias?

It's still Tae, although it is an on going battle between him & Yoongi.

❣ What makes them your bias?

Again, at first his looks, but his personality is awesome as well. He's funny and just so cool and stylish and basically everything I hope to be too. Except funny. I know I'm not funny. Only unintentionally, but I don't count that as I don't mean to be funny then 😂 at first I could see myself in him, and that's what attracted me. I was depressed as shit, and here was a person who I thought was like me, and others liked him! That meant that at least my personality is likeable to other people too. I don't think this anymore, and I also don't think our personalities are similar anymore, but I do still like his.

❣ Who is your bias wrecker?

I have hinted at this before. Yoongi is my absolute bias wrecker. Kind of. I also kind of don't really believe in biases and they kind of make me feel guilty for liking someone best. I have settled on Yoongi & Tae being my bias and everyone else as my bias wrecker. But for the sake of these questions, I will leave my personal believe out of it, especially since this is really how it went in the beginning.

Anyway! I first fell for Tae cause of his looks, but Yoongi was the first personality that attracted me. I liked his no bs life style as I am very direct and I hate bs or people not communicating and such. It's such a bother and he was not like that. He was also very pretty, of course, and also just very soft? I got the vibes that this man would treasure me and take care of me and not even necessarily in a romantic or sexual way. I would've been just as happy being his sibling or friend or whatever. I then went back to Tae for a while because of the recognition I got from his personality. Later I realised we weren't all that similar, but that I was to Yoongi. We've got differences, but I feel like our personalities would match very well and he'd make a great person in your life regardless of how.

❣ Which member(s) are you currently obsessing over that aren't your bias/bias wrecker?

Like every other one? Is that an answer? There's always something I see or read or hear or watch that makes me like them or that reminds me of something or that inspires me to do or maybe change in my life? Idk I honestly just like everyone.

❣ Have you ever been to one of their concerts?

I have not, and unfortunately due to health stuff and such I'm not sure I'll be able to go. I have seen I think all of their online concerts. If I ever went, it'd be with my sister and I would definitely risk getting a crash from the concert. I kind of decided concerts aren't worth the crashes anymore, but BTS might definitely be an exception. And maybe the rose, but idk.

❣ What are some of your favorite songs by the group?

Oooffff I love Anpanman and Mic Drop. I also like Spring Day but I never listen to it. Its bringing me back to all the videos of the students I saw, and I cannot deal. So out of self preservation I don't listen to it.

Another one I rarely skip is August D's version of Life goes on, and Louder than bombs. I can't really think of many else right now?

I also feel very very bad about this, but I love basically everything Tae puts out? Our interests and hobbies and such are very alike and he's just the epitome of the exact type of music I like.

j/onathan b/yers snzcanon time Oh Yeah :) 

- doesn't really have bursts of multiple sneezes (at least, not from colds/allergies), but once he starts sneezing, it's usually a very long fit 

- however if he DOES have a sneezing burst it's just rapid-fire. i'm talking one breath for five fucking sneezes. it's a bit terrifying 

- those will occasionally mix into his sneezing fits and the first time will heard it happen, he genuinely thought jonathan was about to die and screamed for joyce

- near-silent buildups!! his sneezes are pretty sudden to people who aren't paying attention since he gives almost no hints whatsoever 

- on that note, he has also mastered the silent stifle. 

- does the little knee-jerk thing, so there's still an indication/evidence even if no one hears him sneeze <3 

- always into his elbow 

- literally gives himself NO room to be sick 

- and like he'll work himself until he collapses. idk if other people have noticed but jonathan always appears EXHAUSTED so it takes a bit of time for him to actually look sick. in the first few days of a cold, people really just won't notice that he’s feeling unwell 

- he might be a bit quieter and more soft-spoken but that's really not unusual for jonathan. so what if he doesn't want to talk to anyone? maybe he's just having a bad day, who knows 

- colds go to his chest first, so he's not all that sneezy when he gets one. they're almost always accompanied by a fever, though, and he's gotten to the point of hallucination a concerning amount of times. 

- not super allergic?? like he doesn't get hayfever at all in the spring BUT he does have not-quite-mild ragweed allergies. he can also be sensitive to certain perfumes and dust and shit, but not to the point where he considers himself allergic (regardless, he still kind of is) 

- he's allergic to mint too and it's really funny since they have to get different toothpaste for him and everything

- one time joyce forgot and let me tell you that was A Morning

- he's SO photic though it's adorable. it's really bad after he's been in the darkroom for a while and once he leaves he'll be sneezing for at least five minutes, but it's usually closer to ten or even fifteen

- anytime someone opens the door he sneezes before he can yell at them and THIS are where most of those five-sneezes-per-breath fits occur. it's led to some awkward interactions lol

that's all i have for today. this is really bad since i typed it all out in my notes app while failing to sleep on that camping trip and i'm STILL not quite home yet sooo. anyway. i'm loving all the j/onathan b/yers prompts i've been given and if anyone wants to send either a photic or allergy scenario i'd also love that. ty!!

AMuS: Why is Ferrari losing so much?

I translated this article below as I have seen excerpts floating around so here is the full thing.

The loss in Quali in Spa has to make Ferrari think. Red Bull arrived in top form after summer break and left Ferrari behind by 6 tenths. Now explanations are needed. There are many theories but which are true?

In the first 13 races of the season Red Bull and Ferrari were head to head. "On average we are separated by a tenth. Depending on form on the day and circumstances it's sometimes us and other times Red Bull that are faster" analyses Ferrari TP Mattia Binotto the first half of the season. And even if it went really bad for someone there were only 3 tenths between the two championship contenders.

It has never been 6 tenths. And you always had the feeling throughout the entire weekend in Spa that Max Verstappen had more in hand than the 0.632 seconds that separated the Dutchman from Carlos Sainz. Even though Carlos got a tow off of Leclerc. Verstappen and Red Bull didn't need that help.

Red Bull were 10 km/h faster in top speed with out a tow. Regardless, Verstappen dominated the Ferrari sector in the middle of the track. The championship leader gained 0.328 on Leclerc and 0.357 on Sainz in those 10 corners. Even though Ferrari ran the higher downforce rear wing.

How much influence does the Bouncing TD have

On Sunday we are getting Red Bull vs Ferrari twice. At the top of the grid Carlos Sainz vs Sergio Perez and in row 8 Max Verstappen vs Charles Leclerc.

Ferrari hope that they made the right gamble with higher downforce. Red Bull had issues with tyre deg on Friday that were improved my Saturday but that could get worse again with the higher temperatures on Sunday.

This already leads us to the analysis as to why Ferrari was with left without a chance for the first time this season. The first suspicion: The TD about bouncing is implemented in Spa for the first time and that slowed Ferrari down. Ahead of the weekend there was speculation that Ferrari would either have to increase their ride height or set the car up stuffer to stay within the FIA threshold in wear on the plank and vertical oscillations.

Red Bull not using the super light chassis

Actually, Ferrari were more affected by bouncing in the height speed areas than Red Bull. And they are also running a stiffer suspension than usual which causes that it was harder to get the tyre into the right window.

Leclerc was complaining on the Radio that his car was jumping up and down too much in the slow corners. Opposite of how the F1-75 usually behave where is was the car with the most amount of spring deflection and the best mechanical grip.

Ferrari is saying that these theories are unfounded. Spa is just a race track that fits RB. The RB18 is the more efficient car, generates more downforce underneath the car and can therefore run with smaller wings.

Only Verstappen is dancing out of line (idk how to translate that saying)

And the upgrades didn't change that. Ferrari new wings, Red Bull modified sidepods and so on. The weight of the car didn't change. RB haven't used their light weight chassis yet that should bring around 2-3 tenths.

Ferrari pointed at the fact that only the gap to Verstappen was "abnormal". And the champion drove as if he was form a different planet on his home track. In comparison to Perez they say they are in the normal range. And maybe the race with show the abnormal difference. As Ferrari realised that they can't beat Verstappen on one lap they put all their money on tyre saving to be able to win with that trump card on Sunday.

He has no shame- what, he's seen lots of people naked. Nothing too shocking here. He might fall asleep- he doesn't get to settle down and relax much. The bath is super spacious, kinda feels lonely with only you two. He'l talk to you during it, making sure you enjoy your stay. It's his job after all. You're not the one caring for him- it's the opposite hah..

It's mixed with wood and- yknow. It's a weird but charming mix of a traditional japanese bathroom and a super fancy needlessly modern american bathroom. The bath is more like a hot tub. Fcking rich dude.

Havent said anything abt perfume in so long bc ive been uh unwell but im coming out of it again i think.

Im interested in getting into florals, sth i started thinking abt in late spring. I want a green, wet, vegetal flower. Ive been enjoying Sublime Balkiss by the different company, but idk that it isnt too expensive for what it is. Lasts very little and ultimately it is just kinda a friendly fruity floral. sometimes i think that i just need to make life easier for myself and look into womens designer scents, but then i look at the reviews for Sublime Balkiss and people are like sharp green unisex different. And im like ah ok lol. Really interested in exploring tom ford's Vert Boheme, and that whole vert series in general, tho maybe its discontinued? And also fucking tom ford lmao. Fwiw i have actually tried Vert de Fleur during my last attempt at getting into flowers, and its not really it for me, feels like a sun-dried late summer steppe weeds + lipstick, the opposite kinda flowers from what im looking for. Funnily enough a lot of the reviews are calling it dark, fresh and dewy, which just goes to show that none of these words mean anything to me. (Having washed some of it off and waited a couple hours its much less unpleasant but still not what im looking for. dry bouquet herbal soap vibes)

De Profundis remains the untouchable fantasy BUT Amouage Myths woman seems to go to a similar green-earthy-floral well, while Myths man also has chrysanthemum and is supposed to be smoky which is intriguing (tho apparently also features prominent iris and is generally resinous and leathery). So time to reconsider Amouage perhaps. I occasionally revisit the samples i have and still cant really get into them but they are quite different from each other and idk that its their intrinsic dna that i dont get along with. Also given where de profundis comes from ive decided to stop being such a bitch about serge lutens, and maybe look into them for florals.

When i last thought abt perfume a couple months back I was considering making some purchases this autumn as a reward for hopefully defeating work demons, but im actually gonna be spending money on a trip and some things to do w that, which is a lot more valuable than perfume. However now i also want perfume as well. And idk id like to maybe not accumulate a million samples so i ought to go through what i have and really think about the hows and whys of my perfume experience. When i was depressed just now i still wore perfume every day but really didnt engage w the variety i have access to. I dont think i want to be the single signature fragrance person just bc my one perfume would be vierges et toreros and i cant do that to people, certainly not in the middle of summer lmao. But maybe i can have like... 4. Maybe 9. Fwiw i think ive resolved my search around leathers and animalics and am not interested in trying any more after having found my beloved few, even though some are completely inaccessible to me. Maybe i could write sth up about them. What feels very unresolved to me is fruits, my first big unexpected interest in perfume. Ive tried so many and rn i think i dont like any of them! My fucking samples store shopping cart is full of figs aside from flowers but maybe i should really think about whats wrong w the ones i have. I was gonna do a post abt the fruits as well and was reminded of it just now having had a bad time trying to wear Fig Man.

Anyway i dont think ill buy anything for now regardless, thankfully im good at not spending money. But i will try to have my perfume thoughts.

Cat Frenzy (FUN UNIT, 2012)

ah, cat frenzy. takes me back, this one does. originally sold on the dsi shop for 200 Nintendo Points (roughly 2 USD), Cat Frenzy is a match puzzle game where you slide rows or columns of cats to match 3 of them and clear them from the board. easy! you can only slide them left, right, or down, and you can push the cats out of the playboard. the stock button adds more cats to the board to work with, and once you run out of cats the game ends. there are also bonus cats! cats in cans that add 10 to the stock, cats with 2x multipliers that double the points you get from that match/chain, and cats with fish that clear every cat of that type on the board. nice way to make the game more interesting ...or at least, that's how it is in quick play. in mission mode you have to clear all the cats it tells you to, increasing in difficulty over time. most of the missions consist of "get a chain of [x] with [y] amount of moves" with different twists, such as rocks on the board or certain patterns of cats you have to work with

i played SO MUCH cat frenzy when i was a tadpole. like SOOOOO MUCH. it still holds up fairly well, but i will admit that it gets kinda boring after a while. its largely just the same type of thing over and over again. quick play is a fun diversion especially for car rides with nothing else to do, but not really for big road trips of the same nature. good tool for getting a baby frog addicted to puzzle games though! plus it has a save/load feature in quick play, which i think is pretty cool

the mission mode is pretty solid. i feel like id be better at the missions if it wasnt currently 2:25 AM as im writing this line. the first 8 serve as a tutorial for the game as a whole, and the other 40 are actual missions. unfortunately it is 2 in the morning. i cant get past mission 13 as of writing this, but honestly i sorta stopped trying. still a good mode! my brain is just drifting in and out of focus. whoops

the music is an odd beast. cat frenzy has a total of 2 songs -- one for the title screen and one for the gameplay -- and while theyre good, they can very easily get a little grating. theyre real catchy though! ive had the title screen song especially inscribed into my neurons for about a decade ...this is normally where id link to the ost or something, but from what ive seen nobodys ripped the music for this game yet. go figure. ill see what i can do about grabbing the 2 songs from this thing, but i havent done it before, so it might take a little while. stay tuned! (or dont, we advocate for free will and autonomy on this page)

the overall sound design, however, is somewhat lacking and bizarre. there are sounds for things -- moving cats, hitting buttons, etc. -- but i cant say that they make much sense. each type of cat meows differently when you tap it to move it! theres a drum hit when you match cats!! you get cute fanfare when you hit a new level in quick play/clear a mission!!! those are fun!!!!! but the buttons make weird and baffling sounds, most notably:

the stock button is a spring sound

the hint and retry buttons are squeaky toy sounds (same for the menu button in mission mode)

hitting the "to the main menu" button in mission select just makes a cartoon bonk-honk sound (zonk? whonk? idk what it would count as. very likely youve heard it before at some point in your life though)

the menu button in quick play makes a sound thats a mix between paper shuffling and cicada wings (paper cicada?)

the main menu buttons make a weird kinda cork squeak-esque sound i cant describe and, most importantly,

hitting all the other buttons makes a sound i can only possibly transcribe as a swift and soft (squeedle-eek!) noise its confusing. some of these are only tangentially cat related, but most are just completely unrelated to anything in the game. whats the deal here????? did they just buy a buncha stock sounds for this game? so strange to me. regardless, the sound design just isnt all that good. these sounds are funny at first but eventually even the meows become incessant and droning. the best way to get the idea of the kind of experience it is would be to play it yourself. there's very little gameplay of this game online, and what we do have is either mostly silenced in lieu of an admittedly pretty cool song that nonetheless appears nowhere in the game or has about the same video quality as a stick of celery

i will note -- i dont fucking know WHAT that image from the dsi shop page is. i completely wiped it from my memory over the years, but looking back that pink cat is probably why i even bought it. the official page and trailer also claimed these cats are "stuck in a well" and need rescuing, but the board is very clearly a house and these cats are clearly not in any sort of distress. what gives? the cats in-game are more than cute enough to be marketable to 2012 audiences! tell me why you did this, fun unit! i need to know!

overall rating: 5.3 - It's Alright. cat frenzy is a cute little diversion. not the best, mind you, but it's good. it's serviceable. with some kinda-repetitive music and gameplay that starts getting stale in the same timeframe as an apple oxidizing once its cut, youre still better off playing it for the more boring stretches of time you encounter in your life. unless you have a kid who likes cats! it's damn good fun for anyone under 12, but slowly loses its luster every year afterwards. Do Play.

3. what work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

i bit the fruit and all heaven broke loose has to be my favorite bc i definitely originally intended it to be a much more straight forward smut fic and wound up letting it turn into a fairly bloody fever dream, which felt a lot more fitting for the state of mind of silver in the scene it springs off of. it was a lot of fun! and i love the way it turned out in the end

12. how many wips do you have in your docs for next year?

i don't know how many i will actually get to publishing, but i currently have 21 documents marked as a wip 😬 (not to mention another 18 untitled documents that im scared to go through (some of those might not be wips, i have some that are just notes for completed projects etc. i can only hope the majority of them are in fact not wips))

though, two of those wips are currently in the process of being published by chapter! they're still marked as wip for minor edits (and one needs one last chapter but im working on it lol)

27. what music do you listen to when writing?

when i was in college i picked up the habit of listening to bon iver whenever i needed to get shit done (cleaning, studying, essays, other projects) and to this day it still works well to get me focused on a task. i think bc its fairly soothing and. well no offense but idk what he's saying most of the time so i don't feel compelled to think about the lyrics (i do wordlessly wail along sometimes though lol)

I’m just kinda freaking out in the car cause I’m excited about a bunch of things so I’m gonna get it out of my system by writing about it or else I’ll probably puke or something. The major incitement of this physically taxing feeling of anticipation is the fact that this guy I kinda like called Diego just started working at the same ice cream store I do and I’m working with him on Wednesday. I’ve known of him for a while because my friend Emma’s boyfriend Luke (not Luke from camp) is friends with him and some of my work friends are also part of that friend group, but I went to a party at one of my coworkers houses a few weeks ago and I talked with him for the first time while I was there and it was nice. And he’s just so cute like uggggh I’m just anxious and butterflies or whatever. So that’s very much on my mind and right now I’m listening to a lot of loud good music to cope and channel this excitement into something happy so that it doesn’t get too close to just straight up painful anxiousness🤙. Also I’m on like a 4 hour car trip right now after camping for 2 nights in a row and I’m driving for another 7 hours tomorrow so I’m just in a slightly weird mind space. Also, more stuff I’m excited about is just plans for the next couple months with my friends. Last fall was super fucking fun and we did a lot of great stuff and also went to more parties than I was used to and part of the general fun-ness was because Luke who I mentioned tagged along with my friends for a lot of it and that dynamic is just good, so I’m hoping maybe we can pull Diego into some stuff this fall maybe since he and Luke are close?? Idk I gotta stop talking about Diego or imma be sick but fall will be fun either way cause homecoming is coming up, we’re going to the Ren fest soon, pumpkin patches, Halloween costumes, scary movies, great weather, Halloween parties ITS JUST GONNA BE GOOD!!! Also on an mgmt related note I’m visiting New York with my family at the end of October and I’m going to tour Wesleyan while I’m there!!! Which is super great because New York is amazing and I’ve never been there in the fall so it’ll be incredible regardless, but Wesleyan is also a big part of why I’m excited. I had an excruciating phase in the spring where I actually lowkey really wanted to go to Wesleyan even tho I knew it was totally impractical and expensive, and luckily I don’t really want to attend Wesleyan anymore, but touring will be nice closure like fully getting it out of my system. Like I’m glad I’m pretty set on going to KU, but there’s obviously a part of me that would’ve loved to go to an artsy school far from home and end up in New York, it was a fun idea to entertain at least. So yeah, late September and October are gonna be great and I’m just at one of those points in my life where I have a lot of stuff to look forward to and that’s great!1!!1! I’m high on life baby!!!!🤙🤙🤙🤙 jk but njk. LETS GO!!!!!!!!!
