Head canon: until 5th year Lily would be consistently frustrated with flakey Remus Lupin who was always calling out sick or something from doing prefect related things. It’s not until DADA covers identifying werewolves in preparation for their OWLs that she starts to piece it together (which is kinda annoying tbh because Severus has already been whinging about Potter and his friends and what they get up to and now this sort of confirms they are up to something but she doesn’t have time to deal with that BS). Tired of him always flaking she manages to get the prefect schedule changed to be more convenient. (Idk she tells the head boy it coincides with her period or some shit and the lad is so thrown by it and doenst want to discuss girl problems any further so he just changes the schedule all flustered.) When Remus actually is capable of pulling his own weight it’s not so bad, so she keeps the knowledge to herself just so she doesn’t have to go back to being inconvenienced again 🤣

YES and before she figures it out, James took one of Remus’ rounds that were inconveniently placed right after the full moon and guess who was also tied to that particular day? LILY OF COURSE. It’s the first time in years she enjoys spending one on one time with James and develops crush #1

most notably, vampires can consume a wide variety of beverages, including alcohol. i think i got into the "biology" of this in the fic itself, but basically their bodies just absorb liquids the same way they do blood, it's silly vampire magic, it doesn't matter

all of stephenie's stupid and racist skin bleaching stuff is gone, and they get to keep their freckles/tattoos/etc

in canon i think vamps can only get scarred from vamp bites? but i expanded that a little to include claw marks from other vamps + scars from werewolves (of both the shifter and lycanthrope variety, since my version of caius is covered in werewolf scars)

most of the stuff about how vampires work in general is the same as canon! they're nigh invincible crystalline monsters who sparkle and shimmer in the sun and crack like statues when they get hurt, and you can only kill them by tearing them apart and setting them on fire

HOWEVER my vampires are MUCH more monstrous than in canon. i think twilight vamps have the ability to be quite scary if they want, but in my fic i really wanted to play up the idea of them being mythical apex predators. as such, they have a sort of "aura" about them that the cullens are always actively repressing. it allows them to be both incredibly alluring but also unsettling, causing a "terrified but drawn in" effect in most humans - it's a red flag, but also a lure. bella is completely immune to it, which would be a terrible thing for her if she was in any other situation

following that up, vampires who let themselves stay in this "natural" state can tend to be a lot more animalistic, which is definitely something present in canon but i wanted to amp it up a little more. the vampires are very much inhuman and monstrous, and the cullens are putting in work every day to not appear that way

i've also given vampires a much more intense "soulmate connection" that's pretty much exactly the same as canon imprinting. this is just because i wanted my fic to be a twist on the typical soulmate trope where the concept of "love at first sight" is kind of terrifying and inconvenient! i really just played up hints of things that were already in canon, like the fact that denying the bond is... unpleasant for both parties

at the same time, i also wanted to emphasize platonic and familial relationships, so i included the idea that vampires can have more than one "soulmate" and will often have very strong non-romantic bonds with others (though these are less apparent to them at first). this is why the cullens are drawn to be a family, but also why bella and edward are such good friends! they're literally platonic soulmate besties. i love a brotp

i think another related thing i hinted at somewhere is that if a vampire has a human soulmate, that human will slowly begin to gain some vampiric traits (slow aging, increased strength, etc) no matter whether they're bitten or not. bonds are incredibly powerful things in my au, and they're capable of enacting physical change - albeit very slowly

there's also the idea of vampire science and experimentation, of course. most of it has to do with testing out the effects of venom on various types of beings in different states. this is how i wound up with things like ghouls, who are essentially just much weaker, feral vampires (almost like zombies). they, in turn, spread through a different kind of bite-induced infection that causes a rot, which is how bella ends up in her strange state of slow-turning undeath after she gets bitten by a ghoul and rosalie

turning and gifts are pretty much the same! the change takes 3 days under normal circumstances and it's super painful. gifts are accentuated traits from your human life (or amped up versions of proto-gifts, as in alice's case)

i think the last big difference is the idea that vampires are capable of growth and change (not physically, but mentally). if you read the fic, the characters will often talk about how they're incapable of changing due to their nature, but their actions throughout the story definitely contradict this! the vampires aren't perfect and they have issues they have to work through, and they sometimes use their nature as an excuse not to work on themselves - but they're absolutely capable of change

the tl;dr here is mostly that i wanted vampires to be able to drink, i wanted them to be a lot more monstrous, and i wanted there to be a little more mysterious magic at play! i think that the canon twilight vampires are pretty cool, but i also think that stephenie went to weird lengths to explain everything about them, and sometimes it's better to just be like "it's magic lol".

also you didn't ask but my werewolves are different as well! i've never found a good way to actually drop this in the fic yet, but the shapeshifter-type wolves are NOT a phenomenon exclusive to the quileute tribe. there are a bunch of other packs around the world! it's still a genetic thing that gets passed down through families, but it's widespread because in my lore it originated from twilight's other elusive werewolves, the children of the moon. essentially, it's a defense mechanism that evolved in some lycanthropes over time since it was beneficial for humans to be able to protect themselves against vampires. maybe some day i'll figure out how to write that into the fic itself lmao

I mean, I get it if it’s just being bothered by how childish her writing can be a lot of the time, but there seems to be way more of a moral panic involved? So I wanna know, did I miss something? Idk much if anything so… I’ll say what I do know but you’d probably do better asking other people.

Everything that went down with BluJay and their employees, first of all. I don’t know the details, but there was some accusations of mistreatment of workers, and I believe one of their friends even said that Jason would get passive aggressive if he had ever tried to talk to Jess or something?? I think other people would know more on this than me so don’t take everything I say as the objective truth.

There’s a lot of complaints about racism in their series. The things that I have personally noticed are the stereotypical portrayal of Asian (specifically Japanese) characters with Kawaii Chan, characters being allowed to get away with in-world racism without it impacting how they are perceived (Garroth towards Tu’Lan characters in MCD s3, who are often Asian-coded, Katelyn towards Werewolves in MyS, who are also treated as though they are a minority), and how characters do get lighter-skinned throughout the series and the official art. But there might be more I just haven’t picked up on.

The combined duo of: Werewolf Racism being canon, and Jess’ werewolf fetish. Weird thing to combine. Oh, she also made furry a slur for werewolves lmao. It’s just weird idk dude some people take an issue with it, I think she’s just bad rep for the werewolf-loving community.

Aphmau and Aaron’s age gap in PDH (15 and 19, I do believe). Which also ties into the issues people have with Jason, I.e, it’s one year off of when Jess and Jason started talking (she was 16, he was 20). I may be incorrect in saying this, but I think Jess said that she moved in with him when she was 18… so… again, don’t take this as the gospel truth, it’s just something to consider.

Jason himself has a small history of being kind of passive aggressive on Twitter. People aren’t fond of it.

And Jess has done some minorly problematic things. Like shipping her friends who were uncomfortable with it, things like that. Uncomfortable things, but nothing all that major.

There might be more stuff im not aware of, and I’m not entirely sure everything I’m saying is entirely accurate, but you asked me and so I answered. If anyone feels like they can add onto it then please do so, but other than that 🤷

Also, remember that people can change and can make amends for the things they’ve done. As far as I’m aware, Jesson haven’t apologised for any of this stuff, and even if they did, most of them aren’t my apologies to accept, but don’t drag up shit they’ve done if it’s already been dealt with. It’s not worth it.

So,,,,another long one tee-hee, but here's a hell of an explanation if you wanna know:

Whelp there's some context ya need to know to fully understand why I guess, lol;

Malachi in my rewrite died at an older age than in canon, more closely to young teen than child and also, before Ru'Aun was overtaken by the cultural wave of the Divine the main groups of people native to Ru'Aun were Elves, Werewolves and Vampires.

During the rise of the divine, Esmund became corrupt by his own visions of self grandeur, and became obsessed with the idea of ascending their divine status to that of Godhood. Through this he became fixated on Vampiric culture but in a way that was not true to what Vampires were like. He started canablising basically, which is not what Vampires did, but he decided his version was better.

To gain more power for O'khasis, Esmund started a crusade against Vampires.

Of course, the Vampires fought back. In a last ditch effort to try and preserve their kind, the king and queen sent off their only son with a group of others to protect him in a castle cursed to be lost amongst a never ending blizzard and to wander so no one may find it. This of course being Malachi! Yes, Malachi is a vampire.

But, even still he was not born 100% healthy according to Vampire health. His digestive system was shot, and he was not able to consume blood or flesh normally like other vampires. Instead, for some reason, he fed off of fear, consuming the pheromones others let off when facing true terror.

Because of this, the castle quickly fell into disarray; many of the crew meant to protect him ended up killing him in blind furries of fear, and then lead to killing each other.

Eventually years later Aphmau finds him, they bring him back to PD, bring him back to life, he learns to control his fear powers, he can also drink blood now thanks to the snazzy Elf magic, all that.

When Aphmau and the crew go into the Irene dimension, of course stuff starts going into all disarray again. A thing that happens in my rewrite are annual Lord councils, where all the lords and ladies gather to talk with one another and all that, and during one Dante acting as place holder lord takes Malachi with him (malachi is like 20 maybe at this time). When Malachi has the displeasure of going to O'khasis for the first time, he quickly learns that even though it's been centuries, there is still so much stolen Vampiric culture in O'khasis that it makes him hate Garte and the Ro'Meave legacy for continuing to keep it going.

Eventually riots start breaking out in O'khasis because of their lord's negligence and sudden change in demeanor (as at the time Garte started to become corrupt by his own vision of grandure, just as Esmund was, and started to follow in his footsteps of researching old dead gods). Garte is dethroned and then comes the question of "Well, who's gonna run O'khasis now?". And Malachi, most sure he's ever been in his life, throws his hat in the ring.

Why would he be qualified? He was a prince! He has diplomatic training, he's been Dante's right hand man for a while and he's spent years watching Aphmau do her own lord work. Is he young? Yes but he wants to fix O'khasis. Get it away from the hurt and pain and annihilation it cause his own people all those years ago. He doesn't want to erase that history, instead honor it. Use the fact that O'khasis is already deep in vampiric culture to bring it back fully like it was.

Idk how to end this off but yeah, that's why =3

Me activly scared to share what season 2 of my MCD rewrite would be like because of how much shit I change in it, like believe me, the most outlandish thin is the fact that Malachi is lord of O'khasis, it's a long story.

Peter’s voice ran through his head as he stood over Isaac, Erica, and Boyd groaning in pain on the floor, fear in their eyes as their broken bones mended.

“You think I’m teaching you to fight?” said Derek, voice hard. “I’m teaching you to survive, and you all need to learn everything that I know. As fast as I can teach you.”

And then he disappeared into the abandoned subway train car where he lived, seething, before he broke more bones.

That night, he dreamed of fires, of burnt ash and empty graves.

Of drowning guilt and searing agony.

“Naive, foolish boy.”

A warm laugh, now cold.

“You haven’t changed a bit. When will you prove that you can do more than destroy things?”

He woke up in a sweat, even more tired than before he’d fallen asleep.

Both Peter and his mom’s words echoed in his head throughout the rest of the night, as they had for the past six years, along with his own churning thoughts.

‘Prove yourself.’

Prove that he wasn’t a colossal failure. Prove that he wasn’t a walking harbinger of death. Prove that he was a Hale, that he was stronger now, that no one and nothing would stand in his way any longer.

Prove that he was an alpha.

But god, the exhaustion wore at him. He acted like he knew what he was doing, but he knew nothing, and that chipped away at him bit by bit, just as his family dying had, just as finding Laura ripped in half had, just as killing her murderer and the last surviving member of his family had—and he knew this was only the beginning.

The creature that killed Isaac’s dad, the Argents, and soon, other alphas.

He needed power.

He needed…more.

Not these high schoolers on a power trip who couldn’t even land a single hit on him.

To top it all off, as if things weren’t already beginning to spiral out of his control, of course he got himself paralyzed and near drowning in a pool when he’d gone to get details on what the creature looked like from Stiles.

“I don’t trust you. You don’t trust me,” he’d told Stiles. “You need me to survive, which is why you are not letting me go.”

Stiles let him go, pulled him back up, and got absolutely zero results from trying to call Scott.

An hour passed, or maybe it was two. Derek incrementally sank lower by the minute, but he didn’t say anything because Stiles was sinking, too—at this point, Stiles did not need him to survive if it meant dying in this damn pool.

“Hey, so since it’s looking like we might drown here, I was wondering about something that I read the other day,” spluttered Stiles, because apparently now was a great time for a discussion. “Have you heard of ‘Twilight’? It’s a book series? Has movies?”

Derek just looked at him.

“Okay, well, it’s some fictional universe where there are, like, vampires and werewolves, so I was wondering how true some of the stuff was,” said Stiles.

“…We’re drowning, and you want me to tell you how true a fictional universe is.”

“Hey, tone! I’m the one holding you up here! And if we’re drowning, then it doesn’t really matter how much sense it makes, now does it?”

“If we’re drowning, it doesn’t really matter if you know or not, now does it?”

“Don’t be such a sourwolf.” Stiles nearly sank underwater before kicking harder back up. “Oh god, I can’t keep this up, I need something to hold onto.”

Except there was nothing to hold onto, because it was a fucking swimming pool.

“Just drop me.”

“What?” Stiles spit out water as he struggled to keep their mouths and noses above the surface.

“Just drop me,” repeated Derek, because there were quite literally zero benefits to Stiles continuing to hold him up.

“What, no! What happened to all the bullshit you were spouting about me needing you to survive?”

“We’re both going to die.”

“Has anyone told you what a downer you are?”

They both dipped underwater for a heartstopping second, then up they bobbed once again, coughing up water.

“I thought that’s what ‘sourwolf’ meant.”

A pause.

Stiles spluttered out a laugh. “Was that a joke? Did you just make a joke? Now we really can’t die here so we can celebrate this occasion.” He looked around, breaths coming out heavy. “Okay. Okay, I’m going to try to get to the diving boards.”

Except they floundered and slowed down the nearer they got, and by the time Stiles made it there, he didn’t have enough strength to hold onto the diving board, so down they both sank to their certain deaths until two hands grabbed the both of them and quite literally threw them out of the water.

**Quarry Spoilers**

Unironically labeling Nick Furcillo as “toxic” and “abusive” and “problematic” based on behaviors he displays after being infected with a werewolf bite is a new level of bizarre fandom pettiness, but okay.

First: The werewolves in the game have symptoms paralleling rabies infection. “As rabies progresses and causes inflammation of the brain and meninges, symptoms can include slight or partial paralysis, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, paranoia, terror, and hallucinations. The person may also have fear of water. The symptoms eventually progress to delirium, and coma.“

So Nick showing signs of aggression and paranoia is not out of bounds.

It’s also worth mentioning that right up until he transforms (assuming that you go into the game spoiler-free) you cannot be 100% certain what’s going on: The twist of the game could easily have been that these were mutant wolves infected with mega-rabies and Nick was never a werewolf, so showcasing the symptoms of rabies infection provides a red herring for anyone who isn’t already spoiled.

Second: “Bluh bluh bluh, nobody ELSE shows symptoms like that when infected!”

I haven’t done an “everyone infected” playthrough yet, but I know that depending on dialogue options AT LEAST Max and Emma can both get nasty to Laura/Abi if they’re infected (if Emma is infected later on in the game and is then in the bunker with Abi), so it isn’t just Nick who starts acting mean after being bitten.

Third: You have to remember that The Quarry is a butterfly effect game whose main function is “keep everyone alive until dawn”. The choices that you make in this game decide whether or not that happens.

Nick’s infection is 100% canonical. It is not dependent on choice. He, Laura, and Max will ALWAYS get infected no matter what you choose- but Nick is the first one we actually spend time with after being infected. Laura and Max’s scenes come later (AFTER we know what being infected means).

The developers have incentive beyond character-building to show Nick behaving aggressively or erratically: It influences the choices you make with him later on, specifically the scene where he attacks and possibly kills Abi. They are introducing ambiguity as to whether or not these are his actual character traits, or if it’s simply the symptoms of the infection causing him to act out of character (perhaps based on low-level insecurities and fears).

It’s no different than Travis: They show him being unusually weird and creepy at the beginning of the game, and that tapers off quite a bit in chapter 7 and onward. It isn’t strictly about establishing his character- it’s also about introducing ambiguity to the player as to whether or not Travis can be trusted, which then influences player choice.

From a developmental standpoint, we don’t need to see Laura or Max decline mentally/emotionally as they turn into werewolves- we already know what they are by the time we have any choices to make about them. The developers don’t NEED to drag out the display of symptoms because we don’t need hints about what’s about to happen.

As the first character to be infected and have that infection play out on-screen, Nick functions not simply as a character, but a function of the gameplay in that he’s providing us with clues about what’s happening. That in turn forces the player to consider what the best choices are for keeping him and everyone around him alive.

IDK man I’ve seen some weird fandom takes over the years, and I totally get being suspect of Nick’s behavior, but some of you are acting like he’s the most toxic creature to ever walk the planet and you’re doing it primarily based on evidence provided during a period of the game where he is literally not completely in his right mind.

Stampler's- willy is a shapeshifter, it's about the ability to manipulate people, to be what they want to see so they let him do what he wants, Ron is a shapeshifter too, it's about molding yourself so that others are happy. It's about hiding when you're scared

Terry Sr., Samantha, terry jr.- vampires, for riffing on canon, also for the vibes of ron actually not understanding Terry's needs,

also I like Samantha having become this to be with Terry Sr. And maybe regretting it when he dies because now she's this Forever. And the next guy shes with is someone who meets her where shes at rather than the other way around

Scary- Listen I know this one is sadder than most of these but I want her to be a ghost. I love the concept of a ghost Becoming goth. She has been hurt previously and shes gonna scare away this weird vampire that moved into the house she and her mom are haunting

Close's- fae. Music, drugs, partying. All things in excess especially excess. The way it mirrors their canon lifestyle being a detriment to those around them because once you enter a fae party you never leave. The trickery aspect from bill and Glenn's conman days. The secrets part of fairies, and glenn being so guarded about his deeper feelings

Fosters- listen I KNOW they're already demons and that's very fun but I'm thinking Sirens/mermaids. Not just because I want to see jodie shirtless (I do) but because Music and this almost Little Mermaid-esque theme of denying where you came from for love? Maybe jodie gave up his fins after saving Morgan from a shipwreck! Idk I just also like the implications for Nicky generally. Then Taylor later on having that call to like- nature and the sea. and he ends up being his weird little swashbuckling survivalist self

Favorite time of year: fall. early fall when the weather turns crisp and I’m just starting to wear sweaters comfortably, when it’s windy and rainy and beautiful in Iowa, where I live. chef’s KISS. God made all seasons beautiful in their time but boy do I appreciate the early fall.

Favorite Color: today it’s the light blue-grey of a foggy morning

Comfort food: hmm... dad’s waffles, cooked in his dearly beloved mini-wafflemakers, with syrup and/or margarine.

Do you collect something? Yes! Rocks and feathers.

Most treasured rock: a rough blue crystal-y one, really vividly blue and opaque, that I’ve had for ever. It was my mom’s before it was mine.

Most recent feather: I just recently found a really nice owl feather on campus. It’s a wing feather, I’m pretty sure. Maybe someday I’ll learn to actually identify feathers n’ stuff. For now I just think they’re pretty :)

Favorite drink: chamomile tea, raspberry tea, and hot chocolate are tied for favorite. They have different purposes, you know?

Favorite song: I have to choose one? Well... What Wondrous Love Is This always hits me right in the chest... but I love singing it and I love listening to it. I could hear it every day and not get tired of it, so favorite it is. (for a secular one, I’d go with Swimming Pool by Young Waters for similar reasons.)

Current favorite song: today? Classical Gas by Mason Williams. Joey Wilson (a superhero favorite of mine) canonically learned it on guitar, and I’ll be listening to it later today while I write the next chapter of my fic. It’s a good instrumental song, melancholy but hopeful, sort of despairing and sort of upbeat.

Favorite fic (well, at least one of them): ohhh, let’s see. Reclaiming Innocence, a fic where Jason Todd was a child prostitute, is a long and beautiful slice-of-life story about healing which was one of the major inspirations for Strange Redemption. It’s so difficult and real and aaa I’m not doing it justice. I weep.

Currently Reading: The Reverse of a Robin is a Shadow by @called-kept. Also tons of random poems for my British Literature class and my poetry class. We talked about Tyger Tyger in class today in British Lit!

Currently Working On: writing The Strange Redemption of Thaddeus Thawne (I expect the next chapter will be done within the week!!). Taking ceramics, entomology, rhetorical analysis, poetry, and romantic & Victorian British Literature (undergrad English major here!). Getting Enough Sleep. Sewing a plushie hamster without a pattern (a fun little challenge for myself, even if I’ve already messed up several times and dubbed the li’l guy Frankenhammy because of all his mismatched pieces).

Last Series: The last series I finished was uhhh... I think Mob Psycho 100! I’m also trying out The Bear (a cooking drama found family thing?) @swinging-stars-from-satellites’ ramblings convinced me to give it a shot. It’s way grittier than the stuff I normally like, but what can I say? I’m hooked. Carmy is incredibly pathetic and I want him to succeed.

Last Movie: A Werewolf Boy (2012). It’s a Korean fantasy romance / tragedy. I watched this as a child and loved it, so I was SUPER excited to find it free online again! I adore the gentle-monster trope, and werewolves are where it’s at. I always adore a good werewolf story, barring weird romances, and this movie is NOT a weird romance. It’s just sweet.

So I saw this post while browsing toa tags the other day. While I don’t think being obsessed with the school mascot automatically makes Toby a furry (though it is funny to joke about lol) since “being a furry” actually just means “being a fan of anthropomorphic animals” and doesn’t necessarily require any form of costuming or interest in such, it did get me thinking, hmmm...if he was a furry, what would his fursona be? 🤔 And from there I started wondering what Jim’s and Claire’s would be as well because y not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  

BUT WAIT, I hear you say--haven’t you already drawn the trio as werewolves and wolfwalkers etc.? Wouldn’t those be their fursonas??

Well yes....but actually no.

I guess it’s a little hard to explain, but there’s a nuance between “[person] but as an animal” and a proper “fursona”. While a fursona is an animal character used to represent its person, it doesn’t have to physically resemble them at all as you would expect [person]-but-as-[animal] to. For example, if you were to design me but as a cat, you’d probably give it light brown fur and green eyes like I have irl. But my fursona, unlike my human self, actually has blue fur and purple eyes. You can give your fursona matching physical traits to your own if you want to, and some people do, but most use only a pinch of their irl appearance, if any at all.

The choices people make when designing their fursonas vary wildly from “it looks like me irl” to “it looks like who I want to be”  to “I just really like this color scheme” to “this particular color/marking holds deep personal meaning to me” to “this particular pattern represents a particular defining moment in my life” to “idk it looks cool and i vibe with it” etc. etc. etc. Everyone has different reasons of varying depth for the decisions they make in designing their fursona.

Therefore, to design a fursona for Toby etc., it’s less a question of “what would this character look like as [insert species here]?” and more of “how would this character choose to present himself with his own [animal] character?”

And that’s a much trickier game than just transferring a character aesthetic to a new species. ^^; We have to kinda dive into the characters and makes some guesses about how they, if given infinite creative freedom to design an animal avatar with no rules or limits, would choose to present themselves.

So all that said, here’s what I came up with:

Starting with Toby because he’s the one who inspired the post. I think Toby might choose a wolfdog fursona. A lot of people who choose wolves as fursonas consider themselves to be overwhelmingly loyal to their friends, a trait that fits Toby very well. However, while Toby likes to be “cool”, I don’t think he really thinks of himself as much of an “alpha” type--he’s more of a sidekick, and he knows that, and he’s ok with that. He’s the wingman. So what better way to incorporate that than to add dog into the mix? Man’s best friend=Jim’s best friend. Sociable, humorous, and unwaveringly loyal. Wolfdog it is!

With the species decided, we can move on to the design itself.

I can’t imagine any form of Toby in anything other than warm colors. This is extra emphasized by the flamelike patterns on his legs and tail, which both speaks to his desire to be totally awesome-sauce as well as acts as an allusion to his flaming warhammer. It’s fairly common (not universal, but common) for people to give their fursonas a more “ideal” physique than the person actually has as a sort of way to live by proxy physical goals or fantasies they’ve been unable to attain irl for whatever reason. Given that we’ve seen Toby struggle with fitness from time to time, it wouldn’t shock me to see him take this route. His wolfdog self is still relatively short and stocky, but it’s all muscle, babey. 

This fursona is strong, fun, boisterous, and generally just kicks butt. Concentrated awesomesauce flows through his veins. Just don't mess with his friends, or you’ll feel the flames!

Moving on to Jim. Jim was the hardest to nail down, and most definitely the hardest to keep my personal biases out of oof. Which I may have failed to do anways because yes, ok, I made my favorite character a blue feline, sue me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  But hear me out first!

For Jim I ultimately settling on a cheetah/lion hybrid.

Cheetahs, in a way, are sort of the underdogs (er...cats?) of the feline world--at least, in their local ecosystems. They are built wholly for speed, not strength--and as such, just about every other large predator in their environment has them beat when it comes to raw strength. Remind you of a certain Trollhunter? plus the long lanky legs. don’t forget those lol

However, because of this disadvantage, cheetahs...usually surrender. They know it’s not worth it to defend their kill from larger, stronger opponents, so they’ll give it up and just catch something else. This aspect doesn’t quite fit our protective, selfless protagonist all too eager to risk everything to save his loved ones--so a pure cheetah may not be the right choice.

So what animal is brave and protective? That’s where the lion part comes in, of course!

Why not just make him a pure lion? Well, a little similar to making Toby a wolfdog instead of a pure wolf. A straight-up lion feels a little too “chad” for our sweet Jimbo. Too much of a jock. 

Jim has the humble underdog nature of a cheetah as well as the bravery and fierce protective drive of a lion. Cheelion? Leetah? idk, but let’s design it!

Like Toby and warm colors, I don’t think I can possibly associate Jim with any color but blue. While it’s never directly stated, given that we’ve never really seen him wear any other color (with the exception of the Eclipse armor), I think it’s pretty safe to assume that that’s his favorite. Blue sweater, blue jeans, blue shoes, even his backpack and bedsheets are blue. So naturally, his fursona would be predominantly blue as well! Plus some yellowish accents to (somewhat) match the natural colors of his chosen species(s).

I imagine he originally designed the character without horns, but then added them after becoming the Trollhunter, since it became such a major and impactful aspect of his life.

His lion’s mane also continues down his back in imitation of the “mantle” found on baby cheetahs. This youthful feature could subtly represent the fact that he’s been forced to grow up too fast and take on so much responsibility so young--so his fursona can still be young and carefree as long as he likes even while his real self struggles with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

This fursona is relaxed, calm, and confident. He’s not just cool--he’s crispy!

Lastly but not leastly, we have Claire. Out of the three, I think Claire was actually the easiest to choose--or at least, I had the clearest idea of what I thought she might go for.

Claire is a bit of an interesting duck, because while she’s shown to be fairly popular at school, she’s definitely far from the stereotype of The Popular Girl™. Yes she’s smart and pretty, but she’s also a little spunky or even a bit quirky--she’s a theatre kid, she’s a huge fan of hard rock band Papa Skull, and while I wouldn’t quite call her “rebellious” per se, she’s certainly willing to bend some rules if she feels the situation calls for it (not telling her parents that she was going to the concert with Steve, literally sneaking into Jim’s basement to try to find out what was up with him, etc).

That said, I think Claire might go for a hyena fursona--something a little out of the box, but not totally out of left field. (she also shows a slight Gurl Power™ streak here and there “the staff was not meant to be wielded by man--” “I am not a man!!!”) and if you know anything about hyenas...well, yeah lol)

I think Claire would lean into her punk-rock “rebellious” side with her fursona design. This character is completely free of the pressure of being the councilwoman’s daughter and having to maintain her mother’s public reputation, and thus allows Claire to express a less restrained side of herself. She has a bold semi-edgy color scheme with bright accents (and some earrings to match her person’s hair clips) while still remaining feminine and (her own brand of) fashionable. 

This fursona is spunky and sassy; she’s spicy and sweet all rolled up into one. She knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to chase it down. She lives her own life and she’s dang proud of it.

....sooooo yeah there’s my take on what Toby’s, Jim’s, and Claire’s fursonas could hypothetically be. And I guess since this post was inspired by a joke about Toby’s infatuation with the school mascot, here’s just some quick thoughts on how they might approach fursuiting to end us off:

Jim I don’t see as much of a suiter. He might try it once or twice if given the opportunity, but at the end of the day it’s not really his cup of tea--he’d rather act as the “handler” for his friends, if anything.

Toby and Claire, on the other hand, I could definitely see as suiters. In fact, with her interest in acting, Claire would probably particularly enjoy it--she’d be one of those suiters who really gets into character, absolutely refuses to break the magic publicly (outside of any actual medical emergency), and popular at cons because she just performs so well. 

Toby, meanwhile, would be the more chill type--uses his normal voice in-suit, isn’t really too stressed about “breaking the magic”, just kinda hanging around like he would normally except “look I’m a talking dog, cool right?”. 

also while I was typing this it occurred to be that since Eli is canonically a cosplayer then he could be a fursuiter as well; in his case i imagine he actually made his own suit it’s a protogen and it’s full of little LEDs and other electric gadgets, it’s not the prettiest thing ever as sewing is not his forte but boy did he try!! good for him. good for him

Hi!! I'm so sorry it took me forever to answer this, but I am absolutely thrilled that you asked about the R/S Traitors AU because I really want to talk about it!!

So this one has, technically, already been written, and you can find it here. What this specific mention in my drafts is in reference to however is the much longer version of that same fic. It's canon-divergence and takes place in a universe where Remus and Sirius are both the traitors/spies, and basically follows them from their last two years at Hogwarts and through the war. That little scene I linked is told from Sirius' pov but the longer fic will be dual pov, and I can give you a brief run-down of the plot here, under the cut.

(this is going to seem like i’m spoiling the entire fic but all of this is actually established within, like, the first 3 chapters. it’s just the set-up to the actual fic lol)

basically, Sirius (and the rest of the Black family) were all sent to Durmstrang instead of Hogwarts. When the fic starts at the beginning of sixth year, Voldermort is already a major threat and Sirius has just been disowned by his parents for not siding with them in the war and going against family values etc etc. He moves out and transfers to Hogwarts to get away from his family's influence. 

except none of that is actually true because he's secretly still working with his family and being used as a spy to gather information, a really important job that he was chosen for by Voldermort himself.

enter Remus, who Sirius ends up in a sort-of-but-not-really relationship with (there’s a war happening and they both have Issues and things are complicated ok?). 

After getting close with Remus and convincing him and the rest of the Order that his cover story is actually true, Sirius ends up joining them. 

He starts to feel a bit guilty about it because he actually does like Remus, and Remus is, supposedly, as far as Sirius knows, on the side of the Order... except that's not true either. 

Remus is actually secretly working with Fenrir and the rest of the werewolves who’ve sided with Voldermort. Like, actually working with them.

He's still 'Dumbledore's spy': Dumbledore and the rest of The Order thinks that he hasn't been in contact with Fenrir since he was bitten at age five, but they also know that he is the perfect person to use as 'bait' because of this relationship with Fenrir. 

They don’t know that Remus has actually been working with/for Fenrir for about two years prior to the start of the fic.

so... you asked who they’re betraying? Everyone 😅. 

They’re both spies for the respective sides (or in remus' case, both sides), and they’re both trying to keep their sanity in tact because they don’t even know which side they agree with anymore and, tbh, they kind of hate all of them.

cue family drama, betrayal angst, war trauma, everyone having trust issues, and all that good stuff. 

I have no idea when this fic will be written or, if i’m being honest with myself, if it even will be. I’m crying rn just thinking about how difficult it will be to do it justice. But hopefully, maybe, one day. Fingers crossed 🤞🏾😅

And here we have a DJ after my own heart...

This one here is tricky, I have like, three different supernatural themes AUs for this fandom, and a lot of loose ideas, and not a lot of knowledge beyond werewolves.

But in summary, those AUs are:

Buck and Maddie are 'wolves, Bobby and Hen are bitten ones, Eddie has natural magic, Chim and Athena learned magic later.

Buck was bitten by a werewolf instead of the truck bombing (and I never got beyond this)

Eddie's a born wolf, Buck sees ghosts, Bobby can only feel their presence, Maddie... Is something undefined as of yet.

Eddie

To the surprise of no one, a werewolf. I just think it fits. Born one, but completely unaware. It's something Isabel told Ramon, who instead of passing it on, believed it to be simple stories. Cue Eddie having his first shift at 30-something years old after a particularly tough day at the station and damn near panicking.

In another thought, he's like... An earth-based mage — his black thumb is stuck, unused magic.

(There's a lot of Abuela trying to teach her children and grandchildren the ways of the family and Ramon just not listening going on here)

Buck

My current favorite is Buck as what I'm calling a Seer since I have no idea if there's an actual name for this whole mess. Buck sees ghosts and can tell when a human/animal is a shapeshifter. Seers, in what I'm working on, come in many variations (from just feeling the presence of ghosts/shifters, to actually being... Idk, a necromancer of sorts I guess). It also sorta plays into my own lore

In the other two AUs, Buck's a werewolf — in one a born one, along with Maddie (and that one is a lot like "118 as a werewolf pack + magic"), and in the other, a bitten one and possibly the only supernatural being in the 118.

Chimney

Chimney is the token human! Nah, man learns some magic and becomes a witch. All protective charms and such.

Chimney as an accidental witch is also pretty funny. I think it was @sparkly-angell that put the idea in my brain, of Chim not even being aware of what he is doing and ending up with that one raven as familiar.

But now that I'm thinking about it, a fox creature would suit him pretty well. But the Kumiho has shifted, apparently, to be seen as an exclusively evil spirit, which by god, Chim is not. But anyway. Fox.

Bobby

In the whole "118 as werewolf pack + magic", Bobby was bitten in the job years ago. He's, objectively speaking, the least experienced wolf in the 118.

But right now, I'm thinking Bobby could be some sort of vampiric creature. Not a classic vampire, I don't actually like those, but. I just think it'd be a nice way to play with all his guilt :)

Hen

Hen was bitten at 16 yo, after she got shot (that is canon right? I'm not misremembering), in order to save her life, and thus is the most experienced after the Buckleys.

But honestly, beyond that, I have nothing. I really do not know what sort of creature Hen would be otherwise.

Athena

She's a witch. I cannot picture Athena as much else. She's a witch, got a lot of protective charms made (that are later maintained by Chim), but also trackers. If she needs to, she will find anyone in that team.

Bonus Buckley!

In the veins of Buck seeing ghosts, I've taken to thinking of Maddie as a Banshee of sorts (not so much the screaming bit, but definitely sensing death, y'know?) and Daniel... Well, Buck at some point learned he could see ghosts, right?

Bonus Christopher!!

In the one where Eddie's a wolf, he's too young to shift, but once Eddie does, Abuela (and Buck) teach both of them about the supernatural.

In the one where Eddie's a mage, Eddie is actually already aware of the supernatural — Shannon was... partially? Fae, Christopher inherited some of that Fae-ness, and the kid's magic is pretty damn good. But the Fae part of him manifests through empathy. The kid can read and manipulate emotions well enough for a ten-year-old (no worries, he uses it for good), but his green thumb is, hilariously, from his dad.

(His dad, who didn't even know he had magic, and in its suppression, just killed whatever plant he touched. Eddie did just kind of assumed it was all from Shannon and ignored how good with plants he used to be until his dad intervened.)

Okay so, all in all, the ensemble would be:

"Vampire" Bobby, Seer Buck, Fox Chimney, Wolf Eddie, Witch Athena, "Banshee" Maddie, Human Hen (but the best damn person to treat all their injuries). I really like Fae Christopher, though I have no idea how that would work with his dad's wolf side.

Though as soon as I typed that, I did get some ideas. This is my life, folks.

I am reviewing my first sacrifice for consumption, ‘Woof! Woof! Bork! Nya?’ By our very own, @zane-romeave (I do believe, correct me if I tagged the wrong person lmao)

A warning from the author themselves on discord: ‘I didn’t know how to write romance so this is mostly the setup to a highschool political drama’

And the summary on the website that shan’t be named because ew stinky (/j, it’s Wattpad):

‘Kai and Ein are seniors attending Phoenix Drop High. Although neither wants to admit it, they’ve grown quite partial to each other. But, Kai’s a Meif’wa and Ein’s a werewolf. Cats and dogs should hate eachother, right?’

Kien? Kain? Is that’s the ship name? Idk I’ll shut up now

Now onto the actual review (and further summarising from myself):

It starts in Ein’s perspective, him talking about how much Phoenix Drop sucks in comparison to his old highschool (appropriately named ‘Remus Amademy’), for all the reasons that Ein would of course think something sucks. There’s a lack of paragraphs per speaker but because of the way the dialogue is written it’s easy enough to figure out who it is talking (and by that I mean they literally say it right after the dialogue. Ein begins to complain about having to be shown around by Kai because that’s what Orientation is for (in England we call it something else so sorry if that’s the wrong word). At the end of the day, Kai gives Ein his phone number, and the chapter ends Kai’s perspective, wondering what Ein is hiding.

A good start. Gotta love Kai’s phone number being 987-654-3210. There’s an introduction of two relationships (Aphmau and Kai’s with Ein), a little preview of Ein’s violent tendencies, and some mystery sprinkled in, overall setting up well for a story.

Chapter two starts with Kai looking out for Ein (stalking, but with good intention). And then him explaining some social shit, like werewolves and Meif’wa not typically being seen to hang around each other a lot, to the point where people find it strange when they do. We also meet one of Kai’s friends that I will call Chess because I think it’s funny. Then we find out he has Chemistry with Ein, and Kai wonders why no one seems fond of the guy. We know. He doesn’t.

We appreciate Kai having his own friends here in this house. Because I swear he doesn’t in canon PDH?? Idk. Appreciate the building up of the social dynamic between werewolves and Meif’wa, though, introducing an issue that may come from them being friends. Also, paragraphs for speakers begins. Negatives points for the unironic use of the word bro.

This chapter is Ein’s POV. He meets Leo (otherwise referred to as Lunar) who is kind of an ass. Kai is a sweaty little shrimp, Ein thinks that’s grim. Some dude throws up.

It was a fun chapter, albeit short. Poor Quintara, whoever he may be, and I have known Leo for all of three seconds and I am already expecting to dislike him.

Kai’s POV this time, giving us a little idea for how long he and Ein have known eachother thus far. 2 weeks. Kai is thriving in the makeup remover brand ‘school air’ and his only stress is that Leo wants him to be Saber, though thankfully the only move they’d made regarding this was sending Chess to tell him. We get some saber lore, Ein eats gummy bears in a chem lab, Kai mocks him for fearing the gummy flames as it is dropped into the molten potassium chloride. Someone and their buddy Carlos have a weird plan including pictures. Creeps.

I actually appreciated the saber lore. Idk if it’s included in canon but if it was I didn’t remember it. Thanks. And more drama, we love drama, we want drama, drama was had. Lovely. Also, Ein not obeying lad safety rules makes a lot of sense.

The final chapter, the end to it all, ‘Love, lies and fanfics’. We get Ein’s POV. He thinks he’s being stalked. Chess proves himself not to be a ‘lapdog’ like Kai suggested by saying he calls Leo ‘Lunar’ to piss him off because Leo is a racist cunt. Chess also writes fluff au fics, absolute icon. He especially likes non-violent tsunderes and megane pairings, even going on to explain the two tropes. Ein begins to think he can manipulate Chess, and then we get some more things to do with that person and Carlos. Carlos is airing them. Rude.

A cliffhanger, oh no. And it’s the end of it so far, but it’s been a fun while. We love Chess in this house, chess is an icon, Ein needs to back off. Negative points for getting me hooked on something with only five chapters, asshole /j

23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write? 

Idk if it’s really a trope, but playing with who knew what when— giving a character more or less information, in a different order than we get in canon. It’s one of those things that is so specific to fandom/transformative works, because if I’m writing an original novel, you only see what’s happening then, but if I write a fic where the reader knows that Harry doesn’t find out about, idk Sirius or werewolves or Peter until his third year, but in this fic he knows at 11, there’s all this metatextual knowledge that the reader has and leaves space to really play around.

Lupin raised both hands in front of him before visibly changing his mind, massaging the left with his right. “Oh, Harry.” There was a hole in the right armpit of his tshirt. Sirius came over, pushing Lupin’s clasped hands gently to his sides, then clapping him on the shoulder. “He’s fine, see? All in one piece.” Lupin shot him a glare but turned back to Harry. “I am glad you’re alright.” Alright was a bit of a stretch, Harry thought; his shoulder was beginning to ache again and he’d had a terrible headache all afternoon that Sirius’s potions had not impacted, but he nodded anyway.
