i've been thinking a lot abt aging in dungeon meshi and how it's so different for the different races, but especially how it's so different for marcille. even among half-elf half-tallmen, they all tend to age at different rates both mentally and physically. marcille herself is implied to go through random growth spurts and spend some parts of her life aging like a tallman and other parts of it not aging at all. growing up she couldn't fit in with tallmen her own age bc they were already more mature than her, but she couldn't fit in with elves her own age either bc they were all much LESS mature.

i get the impression she's meant to be ~20 in appearance now, despite being abt 50 in her actual age. 50 is simultaneously really young for an elf, when elves live for like 500-1000 years, and pretty old for a tallman, and positively geriatric for a half-foot. and you can see all of these elements in her. in some scenes the way she throws tantrums and cries and is petty or easily excitable, makes her come across as childish. but then in other scenes she's far more mature and shows that she has a breadth of knowledge and power that comes from a very dark and ancient place. and sometimes you can FEEL that she's looking at the others thinking abt how she's still going to be in the prime of life long after they're dead.

the manga delves into it more, with her deepest desire being to equalise the lifespans between races, and the isolation she feels due to being half tallman half elf. and the fact that she could never have her own biological children and yet her lifespan is far longer than even most elves. that she brings falin back to life even while knowing that she could be imprisoned for it if the other elves find out, and wants her friends to live as long as she will, even though she knows they won't. full of so much life and yet all she wants to do is give it away so that others can live..........

there's also just the fact that her character feels very relatable from the perspective of someone in their 20s. she's simultaneously very grown up and wise but also naive and arrogant at times. alternating between feeling like she knows everything and nothing. independent and determined and yet struggles without the help of others. mature and dignified while also being childish and very silly. sometimes a strict rule follower and other times a literal criminal.

it's like she's caught between two worlds in so many ways. she's got so many conflicting traits just like real people have conflicting traits, and her own personality is constantly pulling her in different directions. idk where i'm going with this but man she contains multitudes. i love marcille so fucking much

Your designs look - not too bad." The smirk now spread over the entirety of her face. James felt like the skies had opened to reveal the gates of heaven.

"Oh! You do?! Next week then! Alright, will bring it!" James saluted with a wide grin. "How do you take it, " - she picked up the empty fallen cup from the path - "Sirius?"

Sirius pressed her lips together to hide her smile. "Don't you think that's a bit forward to ask yet?"

James felt her cheeks flush as she watched Sirius readjust her bag on her shoulder and push her hair back, before turning to continue her path.

"I meant the coffee!," James called after her, waving the empty cup.

Sirius threw her a grin over her shoulder. "I know. See you on tuesday! And get oat milk!"

"Oat milk," James repeated under her breath as she watched Sirius walk away, her brain still sizzling from the short conversation. Something clicked back into place.

"Wait." She started running after her. "Wait! Oi, what do you mean my designs look not too bad? I've been acing that module! Sirius!"

I want to like Amy but her fans make it difficult.

Every other moment they're throwing another character under the bus to make Amy look better when that shouldn't be necessary. It's like they're playing victim over something that people don't do anymore.

If Amy is perfect like they claim then they shouldn't feel this threatened whenever another female character gets any kind of attention or praise. But without fail every single time another female character is girly, kind, brave, or anything else you can think of, it's somehow an attack on Amy.

Imagine if Sonic's fans got mad everytime there was a new character who was confident and athletic. That's how ridiculous this is.

Normally I'd say it's not really equitable not to give a character a fair shake just because their fans are being obdurate, but I can sympathize with your mindset when it comes to how folks gas up Sonamy. If they were chiller about it, I'd probably like it more. While I appreciate Sonic and Amy's dynamic as friends, I swear people portray it as an issue of life or death, and it's so freaking tiring.

Despite not posting about her much, Amy is actually tied with Maria for the third spot in my favorite Sonic characters list. Both girls are great characters for similar and different reasons. It doesn't make much sense to me to claim Maria is boring when Amy displays many of the same traits.

Heck, I kind of think people exaggerate how bad her Battle portrayal is, making it out to be the bad apple that spoils an otherwise good bushel. It's not fantastic, pretty Yikes(tm), actually; yet you'd think she singlehandedly ruined the game based on the way folks hone in on her portrayal at the expense of ignoring the others. ...and idk, I still laughed at a few of her lines. :v

Amy sits in the same boat as Shadow in that everyone holds their own interpretation of the character close to heart and will get defensive if you say otherwise. I've noticed a certain stubbornness among Amy fans that is also shared by Shadow fans. One time I said "I'm an Amy fan, I don't need a crash course on her character" in response to being linked a thread on her character, and got hit with "oh you're just saying what everyone else says." Like? bruh?

I'm just not one of those fans who's like "AMY DESERVES EVERYTHING EVER." She has her flaws and foibles, just like everyone else in the cast. She has a tendency to step on toes, be a bit whiny, overbearing and one-minded... and it can be simultaneously true that her kindness wins over hearts. Amy contains multitudes.

But it's almost like, for many people, taking her as she is isn't enough. She needs to practically be shown curing world hunger in order to be considered as valid as the boys or something… Which I kinda find more offensive to her character than dismissing her outright.

Why does Amy need to star in everything before you're happy, even though of the female cast, she's technically enjoyed the most screentime? Again, not to pit two bad bitches against each other, but Maria's representation isn't exactly sterling, especially considering how often folks objectify her as Shadow's morality pet or treat her death as something to shock non-fans into thinking the series is Deep and Dark(tm). If you're really for better female representation, you should be arguing for better representation for every girl character, not just saying "let Amy get hers and fuck the rest." This shouldn't be a competition. Everyone can have a seat at the table.

First the fandom consensus was "Sega sucks because they didn't include Amy in Origins." Then when they actually did that and included her in Superstars to boot, fans proceeded to move back the goalposts. Superstars doesn't count, apparently, because (insert spurious reasons here).

Maybe it makes me a bad Amy fan or whatever, but I find her crush on Sonic to be the least interesting aspect of her character in part due to how much emphasis people put on it. She and Sonic cannot have a single conversation without fans being like "OMG OMG THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER SONAMY IS CANON," even if canon implies that Amy is imposing on Sonic, such as SatBK's manual describing Sonic preparing for their date as "awaiting a stressful encounter."

Although I can acknowledge that Amy's crush is integral to her character, the way people talk about it makes it seem like female representation in the series as a whole is at stake every time she's mishandled. There's apparently a hashtag trending on Twitter called #letamylove that was made in response to what people perceive as Flynn's mishandling of Frontiers!Amy, FFS. They can't just say "Amy sounds too depressed in Frontiers," no, it has to be blown up into a near-political issue.

The other thing is that people who ship Sonamy often ignore Sonic's feelings and comfort in the matter. Ohshima's tweet that Sonic isn't a "real man" due to his reluctance to express his feelings towards Amy exemplifies this. It's like Sonic is considered some sort of prize that Amy earns through personal growth, when really, folks should be arguing for Amy's personal growth for her own sake.

my head is all currently midnight burger podcast so here's everything i like about this wonderful piece of media:

it's pretty fun and very funny!! i smile like an idiot on public transport and on my way to class at least once a day listening to this.

the characters are so. idk how to describe them but theyre so full of life and you can tell that they are loved greatly by the creator(s)

the WRITING. i could seriously pluck a quote from damn near every episode to carry me through the day. i don't need affirmations i need gloria to talk me through my problems.

i was doing a lil analysis of the themes in this show and i came up with "the best thing you can ever do is the best thing you can do right now" and it is FUEL, babey.

The el triste monologue. also just gloria being a POC and being proud of herself and her culture. there's a lot of cultural mish-mash in podcasts, so this is very refreshing.

It's very, very sweet and heartfelt. kind of like wolf 359 if they communicated more instead of dodging their issues until they came to a peak (love them for it.)

the PHYSICS of it all. i'm a physics/astrophysics major because i think space and looking at the stars is my lifeblood so i won't shut up about it. i don't want ava and leif (certainly ava) to shut up about it ever. HOW much reasearch did they have to do to get this kinda grasp on it. im in awe, i'm LEARNING actual things from them. i could go on. the gravity waves, the stellar nuclear fusion, the time dilation of it all. and all without using over-flowery language!!! i can actually follow a good chunk of the time. are we sure ava didn't take one of those science communication seminars. maybe 5 phds does it. when she and leif talk i vibrate like an electron in a lazer. wonderful.

star sequencing??? stellar nucleosequencing??? right up my alley. thats my kinda stuff. the romanticization of space, i've seen. the romanticization of physics, however, is not something i haven't seen in such a beautiful modern fashion. (Ie, not oppenheimer or even richard feyman)

and it's not too science-y to the point that they think they can't have fun. yes they discuss the implications of gravity waves and wax poetic about space and pulsars. (it beats for you, berts) but they have FUN! they meet their parents because they can. they get a plant drunk. there's an atmosphere(?????) around the diner that allows them to fly around and mind-numbing speeds and look at the curvature of spacetime and also sit on the roof. (I imagine the entire place is the temperature of a summer night.) they have a whole wild west planet. leif builds things inexplicably. how? where does he get the materials??? shhhhh don't question it just let him have the gravity wave detector. nobody actually knows what engineers do, not even engineers. let him be. also time crystals??????

ALSO ava being a woman in stem and being so blunt yet covert about it. she's been dealing with it for so long. why are all (recognized) physicists a)white b) men c) both. it's such a sucky thing to work into because of the outward appearance. ava is a proud mad scientist which i aspire to so much. i am keeping her in my little arsenal of people to think about when i don't want to study. (picture the do it for her meme but it's pics of ava) I don't think i aptly put how much i love her. i'm not all the way finished yet but i've heard she was forced to marry someone? i think it would be a thing for sure if she cheated on him. so many physicists cheated on their spouses (wives ): ) and i think ava should also do it. as a treat. if that's what she'd like.

when people have done bad, bad things but show/are capable of redemption upon reflecting on their past/current shortcomings is just something that gets me so much directly in the heart. the hiddenness of people. the tragedy. we contain MULTITUDES and this show demonstrates that so well. how they support each other! they are everchanging and that's good for them. 1. flamethrower guy/the stranger/jack: this one likely shocks no one. there's just. a joy. that comes with writing an unhinged, monster-hunting hermit. he kicks doors open. he lives in a burnt out hospital full of Creatures. he's larry fessenden. he's alive in canon for roughly 5 minutes. he's the light of my life. 2. mike: probably slightly more of a surprise because i don't write him OFTEN, but i love writing mike. lovelovelove writing him. mostly because, of the ud kids, i think he's the character who talks...the most...like i do irl??? similar speech patterns, i mean - same tendency to just. say things. that do not make sense. or things that did not need to be said. 3. 1. ashley ashley ashley: they could never make me hate you bb. did she handle some things poorly? yes. does she make some questionable decisions? sure. would i give her the world if the opportunity presented itself? of course. look, i just think. she should get to do...whatever she wants. always. as a treat. :)c 2. matt: i am so. intrigued. by matt's whole deal. every second of it. he's a huge part of the prank but he's also hugely sympathetic. he has that incredibly cute moment with ashley right as they get to the lodge but seems pretty chilly (if not downright disinterested in) chris and josh, her best friends. he helps jess through the mines. he holds his own with emily. unless you play him a v certain way, he seems the most interested in smoothing things over between everybody. I THINK SHES SO NEAT... cradling her in my hands. i like a girl with anger issues and also with immigrant metaphors. i want to put her in a bucket and study her with a magnifying glass like a bug

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

i think her dissonance about expecting to be older than clark but then being actually baby is so fun. and her immigrant metaphors and her tragedy are SO compelling to me. but i also really, really love that her grief turns to rage. the way she is so compassionate and also so fundamentally angry is just. YEAH!!! i LOVE that in a girl go ham fuck shit up!!!!

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

i'm honestly of two minds about the thing where they state she's significantly stronger than clark. it isn't really explained why (at least in sg2005?) (like, he's been under a yellow sun far longer than her at that point, what makes her different? how does every other kryptonian from kandor stack up in this powerscale? etc) and without any real basis, to me it just feels like a haha #girlboss thing where they were like well a woman can't be interesting if she's not physically the most powerful ever. unlike other women, this one kicks ass!!!!

ACTUALLY A SPECIFIC i have seen multiple posts in the last few weeks thinking she's significantly older than kon??? she is not!!! they're the same age (in postcrisis anyway idk whats going on in rebirth and frankly neither does dc i think)!!!! that's the whole reason she takes his death so hard!!! thats a member of her family her own age and he just died!!! like nearly every other person she's ever had!!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

she also has the house of el family curls. she does not really care that much about her appearance though so she just kinda brushes them out and lets her hair be just the wavy "this could be curls but isn't" floof instead. also, it's a kinda brighter yellow than natural blonde hair (it's natural for kryptonians, but...!) the same way her eyes, like the rest of the kryptonians, are more luminous than normal human eyes. people tend to assume she dyed it.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

my first impression was actually of mae kent because i didn't know the difference between all the supergirls and i was just reading sb94 alskdjf and then i looked it up and went Oh. this is more complicated than i thought. and it was a little intimidating for a second, but then i just went fuck it and started reading supergirl 2005. first impression of THAT was "oh jesus christ i hate men" because. well. look at the beginning of that thing. BUT when it picks up it picks UP and my god... cradles kara gently in my hands. i love her so much. she contains multitudes.

How did Espeth become a hivemind? Were they always one or did something happen?

I think Esther was,,look, I don't wanna say the word "infected" because it sounds negative, but...

Esther was infected first :)

I think she ate something bad, and suddenly realised she contains multitudes. What's a creature or series of creatures that are very interconnected despite being separate beings? Birch trees. Mint. Mushrooms. Siphonophores.

Something like that, idk she just got very unlucky.

And then she changed. And became more confident, and more powerful, and less lonely, and somehow more lonely at the same time.

So she sought out more friends, friends who had plenty of time to devote to her, and who loved and accepted her as she was. (Strange and off-putting.) And then she just sort of,,kept them.

I imagine it was probably a lot like Kian Stone, from Blood in the Bayou. Or anyone from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. which is to say some sort of "hey let me spit in your mouth" interaction

They love each other, they loves themselves, they love being each other and themselves, it's all very unsettling and weirdly wholesome in an odd way

First impression- I thought she was really pretty when I saw her the first time! I'll admit I don't remember my exact thoughts when playing the game the first time because it was like 5-6 years ago lol.

228-239 okay wrapping up la medicine round 1 and into la medicine part 2. good ass rotation mates on the first round, people contain multitudes. i love when people drop the social posturing and say things genuinely, cool shit. sad sad sad euth. no one should leave this bitch of an earth alone and on an empty stomach but sometimes that's the way the dice roll. worse even when there's not a good answer, medically. also to ruminate on idolizing in vet med, what's the point if your idol doesn't know your name or seem to have interest in teaching you. my oracle deck said time to drop it so i think i'm gonna listen. idk how to be a person and there's some pathology/bad patterns at work here but i can say for certain that this is doing me no favors. also a separate rumination but for a female dominated profession we all just kinda hate women. i had someone tell me she had trouble operating a device and "it wasn't just me, I had a man look at it" that's great sweaty daddy's gonna go put a gun in her mouth now.

because i wasn't prepared for her to be insistent on dodging accountability while she admits to making mistakes tbqh.

a lot of the tone on this record feels like "this is everyone else's fault except mine" and although the prologue does admit that she was fucking stupid last year, it still takes on a sympathetic "my mental health excuses this" tone that doesn't actually do as much to hold her accountable as she would like.

it's one thing to emotionally cheat and lie and manipulate situations to fit your narrative. its quite a fucking nother thing to act like you did nothing wrong at all even as you detail all the ways in which you make selfish decisions. idk, when i make mistakes, usually im aware that ive made a mistake if not during it, immediately after and i do shy away from the fact that it was a mistake.

and i do think her explanation in ms americana can explain a lot of this, especially when she talks about how her black and white thinking led to her eating disorder. she says that she wants to be a good girl so this record kind of shows how she twisted everything she did wrong into a "good" or justified behavior. it's classic disordered thinking that i really wish she would get professional help for because she needs to get over this mentality of "bad things happen to me and im powerless to stop them"

she made like 5x the amount of money joe did. she moved to london of her own accord. she could have left at literally any fucking time, unless he was physically abusing her there is no reason for her to be scared of leaving him if she's so unhappy she's dreaming of fucking her "best friend" for months into years before actually doing it.

she acts like any public criticism of her behavior is a "crucifixion" of her instead of her fandom holding her accountable when she messes up and makes mistakes. She thinks critique of her flaunting a man who uses slurs publically is "viper" behavior instead of her fandom being hurt that she hears people say slurs and fucks them as a reward for it.

it's such whiny, teenager behavior that i am genuinely SHOCKED she hasn't grown out of by now. idk its interesting to me that she released 2 hours of music because i feel like it shows how much of a fake product her other albums are in the sense that she polishes and tidies up the narrative on those records to not leave any room for criticism of her behavior at all. whereas this album is raw and unfiltered and i would be shocked if this wasnt the whole "vault" for this era. maybe there are like a few more songs (a short leash and a short fuse is interesting af idk if its ttpd or rerecording easter egg tho) but i doubt she wrote more than 30 full songs in the 10 months it took her to put this album together.

and i think the fact that she was like release it all is so interesting to me because it shows a desire to actually grow up and hold herself accountable and show all parts of her personality the good the bad and the fucking insidious.

and i genuinely love her for it, this is the most mature album she has ever released and i adore the courage it took for her to stand up and take a good hard look at herself and be like yea actually i am a fucking villain sometimes let me show all the ways im fucked in the head since yall have been begging for it for years anyways and making up your own theories so here is the truth.

and its great. its fantastic i adore this album for the complexity of it all.

but i also hate how much anger i feel listening to her whine about how she had no other option but to emotionally cheat for years cause she's just a wittle baby. i too contain multitudes lol anyways the joe quote made me so sad and this is the result
