to ME ( & this is rather flavored with headcanon so bear with me ); ryuuji kawara, a man realizing a baby & then some beforehand too late that he's just No longer in love with his wife / girlfriend, spends ALL of his time possible at work, with his team of prodigy teenage exploits, honestly just dicking around & refusing to- you know, be a Responsible Grown Ass Man & do something about his life,

& he starts doting on the sad little partridge who's thrown himself into his work to an unhealthy degree & is no doubt having a hard time just being ALIVE after being orphaned & physically disabled by a terrorist attack when he was just a baby, practically hovering over his shoulder, making sure he eats, gets out & has fun, & this is EASY for ryuuji, because they both have a mutual interest in science - as well as each other. ( not in a weird way get out of here, )

& isa's been given the short end of the shit stick ALL his short life thus far; he was born into a rich family that abhorred him since day one for Never being up to their standards, has resented them & felt nothing for anyone around him Since day one, was involved in a terrorist attack that Physically fucked him up for the rest of his life, & was almost immediately indoctrinated into the extremist hawk party at like. age 6 & stayed with them onward. CAN YOU IMAGINE,

so isa's growing up in a sterile, hostile environment & having his progeny used to develop techniques & weapons against humankind. i can't imagine it's the warmest place to RAISE an already jaded child, let alone when they're destined to become the smartest one in the new world order, but i digress.

IN STEPS RYUUJI, showing him all the warmth & kindness that he's yet to experience from ANYONE in his life before, & oh my god. it's wonderful. it is indescribably luxurious- it's so fantastic that ryuuji kawara would be the Only Person that shuu would show respect for, the only person he'd ever do ANYTHING for, the person he would somewhat come to live for, no matter how much he denies it or portrays ryuuji like a fool under his breath.

I actually have a bit of a little odder request? I love Wen Ning/Ghost General and the fierce corpses like a lot. As well as revenants. Would it be possible to have the demon brothers (or the undateables) with a sentient fierce corpse MC? Maybe the summoning in the beginning of the game screwed up and well, MC was once a human so it's pretty close right?

I'm not actually sure how much experience the demons would have with a fierce corpse. The smarter ones would probably figure out something is wrong with the human pretty quickly. Bad news: the human is undead. Good news: It's harder to kill things twice!

And honestly it would make the whole lesson 16 Belphie killing MC hilarious and horrifying because why aren't they dying?! I imagine fierce corpses are also really unsettling for the angels to be around.

I'm not sure what kind of yandere hcs you could do with this but surely having an undead darling is useful.

I also would want to hit people with my chains if I was Wen Ning to be honest.

This is super cool I’m sorry it took me like a whole decade for this to occur 

Starting off, with Wen Ning being our direct influence. He has a mind of his own but can still be controlled by WWX. I’m going to assume that the MC was a normal human, but the spell is what screwed them up. Just chilling at home and it ends up turning them into like a ghost, since no one is there to control them I want to say they have random bursts that they can’t control. Lucifer would probably have to keep them controlled. The curse killed you, but managed to keep your soul in the body it’s just that your consciousness isn’t 100% in tact, hence the random outbursts. You’re lacking warm tones because you’re dead but what you chose to do with that is your choice. You emit a vibe towards the angels and Solomon, you’re human and they can tell but they get a bad vibe. The vibe you get when someone is bad news or there is something wrong with them. Moving on to the actual headcanons! 

When you first arrive to the devildom, it’s strange. You’re a human so the spell worked, but you’re not exactly the same. You’re dead, you have a conscious but it’s lacking, you have control of your emotions but when you’re feeling something too strong you lose control. You get a burst of strength. I’d see Barbatos attempting to erase the timeline to get you back to normal but Lord Diavolo would probably keep you just to keep an eye on you. He gives Lucifer a run down of what to expect, to monitor your condition and to keep you in line. You can still interact like normal, like Wen Ning and Wen Qing. They’re still siblings and cared for each other as such even when he was a ghost. That being said, nobody suspects anything at first. Lucifer probably gives the responsible ones the task of monitoring you so that kinda hints that’s somethings wrong with you. Satan is quick to pick that up, he hates the idea of relying the info to Lucifer but he does enjoy observing you. Mammon doesn’t think much about it to be honest but because of all the time he spends with you he starts to piece that somethings off about you. Levi and Asmodeus would probably judge you for your complexion and stylistic choices but that’s about it. Beelzebub would probably notice something when you’re with him or playing and somehow get stronger. Lucifer tries his best to keep up with you and control your bursts, I think the first one you went through was Levi’s competition on TSL. 

The angels are a bit off put. You can be as kind as can be towards Luke, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t scared of you at first. He’d be lying if he somehow doesn’t exactly befriend you or act close like in the game. Simeon being Luke’s protector would do his best to make sure you don’t pose a threat. You don’t, but he’d be lying if he wasn’t preparing for the worst should you ever lash on Luke. Solomon however, is intrigued. What drives you? What holds you back and causes this? Why did Diavolo keep you and for what? He’d probably try to work towards a cure or worst case scenario if there isn’t, suppressants. Belphie would probably notice something is off when you first meet, but he wouldn’t put it much thought. Just that you have the ability to free him, granted when it comes to killing you he’s a bit irked. You ruined his plans bro. After that lesson occurs, he’s probably the one who hangs the most around you. I can’t describe it or define it, but I just KNOW he’s the type to vouch for you. He’s the one who’s telling you that you won’t lash out on people and do something you’ll regret and that you’ll come to use your powers to help. 

As far as yandere, Diavolo, Solomon, and Lucifer are intrigued. As much as I rant about nice moments and soft yanderes here, I really want to get dark. Lord Diavolo admires your efforts and they motivate him however, he’s waiting for a chance where you fuck up and he ‘disposes of you’ by keeping you chained in his room or home. Solomon wants to run experiments and explore you, he lures you with false promises which work wonders on your heart. He definitely uses the whole, ‘poor Luke is so scared of you and he’s had a nightmare of you’ to get you to agree. Simeon does the same but I want to say that he has some religious kink where he wants you to lean on him and trust him. He wants you to turn over to their side so that he can properly heal you. Lucifer wants to have you under his control, his possession. He certainly wants to tame you to his desires, to heed his every whim. Kinky. Mammon is a pick me, I’m so sorry I love him but imagine his pride when he manages to stop a burst from occurring with his words. “This isn’t you MC, come back to me” headass. Belphie is kinda the same, but he wants to give you the benefit of the doubt. “You won’t hurt someone MC, I know you won’t”, all this for him to set up the situation in where you do in fact hurt someone. Then you run to Belphie who goes, damn well just stay with me and I’ll protect you. He’ll manage to wrap Beel into it as well. Beel wants to protect you and i think that he physically is the only one to stop you as well as protect you. Asmo, Satan, and Levi are iffy.

Linh hated Glimmer until Tiergan noticed.

Because Tiergan notices things, and he's really good about it.

"Linh," Tiergan said, one afternoon, when the two of them were sitting in the living room and Glimmer and Tam were screwing around with light and shadow in the front yard.

Linh was unintentionally tying a tendril of water into complicated knots, her eyes wholly focused on the two outside.

"Linh," Tiergan said, again.

"What," Linh answered, her teeth half-gritted. "It's fine, I don't care. It's not like he loves her more than he ever loved--" She cut herself off, and turned to her adopted father. "What, Tiergan?"

Tiergan looked at her, sadness glinting in his eyes. "Tam doesn't love her more than he loves you."

Linh scoffed. "It's obvious. He hangs out with her all the time, she was there for him when I couldn't be, it's not a big deal. I'm just... not important. I shouldn't care about it, not really."

Tiergan looked at her, as though trying to parse through heavy teenage emotions took all his mental effort.

"Do you know why Tam likes Glimmer so much?" He asked, eventually, his fingers tapping on his mug of cinnacreme.

Linh shrugged, still glaring.

"It matters, Linh. Do you know?"

"She's better than me?" Linh said, seemingly out of it, now, the water starting to slowly spiral around her head like a snake. "I shouldn't expect anything from anyone? I'm not worth loving, who could love someone like me? It was only a matter of time until Tam saw who I was, just like everyone else? I'm a murderer? A terrorist? Everything I've ever done has hurt someone?"

Tiergan's heart sank for his daughter. There were a lot of things that needed to be tackled in the mess of reality and internal thoughts that the girl had just released. "Linh," he said, softly.

"What?" she demanded, turning on him, the water splashing into the cup with extra force.

"He loves her because she reminds him of you."

Linh froze, for a moment, looking at her adopted dad.

"He loves her because when he had nowhere else to go, no one to stick with, no one to stand besides, when he needed you, you couldn't be there."

Linh's eyes shot to the ground. "I--"

"Listen to me, Linh. That's not wrong. You were right to stay away from the Neverseen. But Tam needed you. He'll never admit it, he's too full of himself, but he needs you just like you need him."

Linh stayed quiet, thoughts going a thousand miles an hour behind her eyes.

"And he was always around this very soft, well mannered girl with long dark hair and soft blue-gray eyes."

Linh looked up at him. He smiled at her, sadly. "Your brother was so desperate to find comfort in the Neverseen that he befriended the person who was in charge of his chains, just because she reminded him of you."

Linh's eyes filled with tears. They didn't fall. Instead, Linh choked them down, held them back. It was almost like she had a skill for not crying, Tiergan had always thought. She swallowed, once, and then turned to the window. "But why did she come with? She's Neverseen, and she's a murderer, a psychopath, she kept him chained--"

"She was a kid too, Linh," Tiergan said. "I know for a fact that they weren't nice to her. She's got burn scars on her hands. She's got regular scars on her back. She doesn't usually wear clothes that let you see that she's been hurt, but when she wears tank tops, you can see lines that look like scars. I think she was as much a member of the Neverseen as your brother was. They were just able to brainwash her longer."

Linh stayed quiet. "Why does she have to be here," she asked, finally, and Tiergan could see she was running out of reasons.

"She has nowhere else to go, either." Tiergan looked out at the two kids in the front yard, being kids, rushing and messing around with their abilities like they should have been able to from a young age. "You should go bother them," Tiergan said, eventually. Linh looked at him. He kept going. "You deserve to have fun with your power, too."

She said nothing.

He nudged her. "I know Tam wants you out there, too."

"Are you sure?" Linh asked.

Tiergan nodded, and gestured to the cup of water. "Go," he said.

She pulled the water into her hand, and nodded.

Tam stopped training a shadow army, briefly, to look at his sister. Glimmer froze, her glowing hands glowing less strongly.

"Hey," Linh asked, "Your defenses any good against elemental attacks?"

Tam grinned, his eyes bright, and with a rush, started showing her all the things the two of them had been working on.

Linh turned and met Glimmer's eyes, a bit later, and for some reason, the curious, soft look in her eyes reminded her not of danger and kidnapping and murder, but of sunshine and fresh air and freedom.

Hmm, Linh thought. I can see why Tam wanted to be her friend.

It took them all of that afternoon to become nearly best friends. They had too much in common, and Tam had to flee in terror from a glowing, sparkling water monster controlled by the both of them.

Linh grinned at the girl next to her. "Come on," Glimmer said, "If we hurry, he'll give up and we can make him do the dishes tonight!"

Linh giggled.

Glimmer smiled wider.

I've been having a lot of fun with 'A Bride for Hyrule's Prince' so I guess I'll run with that!

2.What tropes or fandom headcanons are you involving? Are you challenging any tropes or headcanons?

Well, pretty predictably, I'm including the Fable and Legend are twins hc, but I'm also including Ravio and Hilda as siblings. I'm also messing around with Knight Warriors concept.

I don't think I'm really challenging anything really with this fic, but it is unfinished as of yet

7. Do you listen to music while writing your WIP? If so, what? Do you have a playlist?

So, I actually have a writing playlist, but for this fic specifically I was listening to "Let Us adore You" from Steven Universe. It fits in an odd way that makes no sense unless you've read the thing, but helps set my mood :)

9. How do you feel about this WIP? Is it frustrating? Fun? Strange?

I really like this one. It's very different form my usual fics, and is shaping up to be a bit more dramatic than I intended (who's surprised, show of hands). I set out for fun and I'm getting some Castle Intrigue vibes? Which is weird, since I've only ever read castle intrigue content once (in this fandom actually, it was really good)

It is frustrating in it's own ways, since I have to convey everything through one perspective instead of darting everywhere like I usually do, and there are times when I don't know where to go with it to keep it running, but it's getting there

10. Is your WIP an AU or canon-compliant? Either way, talk about any research you had to do, lore you had to make, or timelines you had to screw with to make it work. Talk about what makes your universe tick!

It's mostly cannon compliant, but I did have to mess around a bit with the royal lineage and create a bunch of side characters. There isn't a lot in the way of lore as yet, but I have had fun making Legend reference the heck outta our pop culture. So far the counter is at 2 for pop culture references hidden in the text, but I want to push it a bit more. reasonably, he wouldn't know about these things, but I don't care because it's funny for me XD

Fortunately, I studied the heck outta castle life as a kid, so I have something of an idea of what to do without research now

12. How did you come up with this fic? Where were you/what were you doing when you thought of it?

This was actually a fic idea suggested to the fandom as a whole back in...fall? I think?

The idea popped back into my head while I was at work one day, and since I had nothing else to do, I pulled out my laptop, set it on our spare register where it couldn't be seen by any customers who would come it, and jotted out the first three or so chapters. I've had fun adding to it, yes, but the idea isn't mine to start with. i can't find the origin post though :(

Lucrecia as a character always confused me. Why did she act so helpless to keep screwing up? Those were all her decisions and she knew she'd feel guilty if she followed through and then she did it anyway. Over and over again. And then she just decides not to deal with any of it. Maybe DoC didn't portray her well but what are your thoughts on her character?

Lucrecia and Dr.Valentine/Vincent's father study Chaos, accident happens and Valentine dies, leaving Lucrecia feeling guilty.

Vincent and Lucrecia first meet, insert picnic flashback and falling in love montage somewhere during this time.

Vincent finds out about Lucrecia working with his father, Lucrecia thinks he blames her/she's too guilty to be with him, so she starts pushing Vincent away and gets together with Hojo.

Jenova project starts properly, when Jenova is still thought to be Cetra.

Lucrecia faints and while Vincent goes to ask Hojo what's going on, Hojo shoots and experiments on him. (Making other limit breaks part of vincent, I'm headcanoning gauntlet/vincent's hand is fucked up because of Hojo.)

Vincent dies, Hojo discards him and Lucrecia takes Vincent's body, trying to bring him back to life.

Sephiroth is born.

Lucrecia probably doesn't find out protomateria worked bringing Vincent back to life and kills herself.

Lucrecia isn't "hiding in the cave" like I have seen some people say, she tried to kill herself, but it didn't work because of Jenova, so she got encased in crystal. There's a theory that she jumped on Nibelheim mako reactor because she's in a similar crystal as Sephiroth is when he fell in the reactor.

I don't understand where "Lucrecia is a bitch for what she did to Vincent, she experimented on him!" comes from..like do people actually take Hojo's word here as truth? Fucking Hojo's? No, it's clearly shown Hojo is freaking sadistic here and Lucrecia isn't doing what he's suggesting, she's desperate and is trying to bring him to life.

Then there's Vincent's father dying, and the guilt she felt from that. Is it really Lucrecia's fault? It's said she's rushing but how is Chaos (i think it's Chaos in tube) going rampage, breaking out and Vincent's father pushing her away, dying to that, her fault? They weren't talking anything like "if you do this, it will go rampage.." Yes, it was stupid, but an accident like that isn't really Lucrecia's fault.

Yeah, choosing Hojo is a mistake, but I think it's pretty clear in DoC Lucrecia gets together with Hojo only to push Vincent away and punish herself for letting Vincent's father die and all that.

"Why didn't she just run away with Vincent?" I don't think we have a proper timeline of events, but I don't think you can just quit/run from Shinra...see what happened with dr.Gast and Zack.

Lucrecia is also shown fainting a lot, she thinks it's from working too hard, but I think the implication here is, that she's pregnant. She's pregnant with Sephiroth, while Hojo is mentally abusing her/gaslighting her, and man she loves is dead inside a tube, which she feels responsible about. She's shown to be stressed about it and about to snap.

This is the last straw. I think it's clear here Hojo took baby Sephiroth as a labrat experiment, while Lucrecia wasn't asked, she doesn't get any say in this. Not to mention that originally, at writing stages of ffvii, Lucrecia didn't want to take part in Jenova project experiment, but Hojo drugged and forced her. I don't think Lucrecia ever thought that giving herself and her baby Jenova cells meant that she would never see or hold her baby! They think Jenova is a cetra, just a person with magic basically. She probably thought she would get to live normally with her son except for visiting labs from time to time, but I guess that's my headcanoning. I never saw Lucrecia being so science-crazy and batshit insane as Hojo, he's the real big bad of ffvii.

I'm sorry this is so long, but I think Lucrecia and Vincent share a tragic backstory, not like "Vincent has a tragic backstory because of Lucrecia", and I hope Remake brings it out more. I hope it's possible to free Lucrecia from the crystal in the Remake eventually, they both deserve a happy ending.

I apologize in advance that this response is probably going to be all over the place. I’ve got a lot of thoughts about this and very little ability right now to put them into a cohesive order. So we’re just chucking it all out lol.

First, there’s absolutely no need to apologize for being on anon. That’s what it’s there for! I think tumblr has developed a view of the anonymous option that, on the whole, isn’t particularly useful. In our efforts to call out those who are sending flames/hate under the comfort of anonymity (which you obviously are not), there’s no need for anyone to “prove” themselves by going off of it. You’re using anon because you (justifiably) fear how the fandom might react to these questions. I often use anon because I abandoned my “main” account years ago and dislike sending messages from it. There’s a huge range of reasons why someone might want to be on anon and ultimately it doesn’t matter why we use the tool that’s been provided to us. It’s there, so never feel bad about going anon for any reason :)

Onto the ozqrow! Or yes, onto the cloqwork. I learned “ozqrow” first so it’s pretty embedded in my head, but I agree that “cloqwork” is the more sophisticated of the two ;) Anyway, yes. There are potentially ways that we can view the relationship as unhealthy… with the key word there being potentially. AKA, as headcanons. No, Qrow wouldn’t have been an adult when he entered Beacon, but who’s to say a relationship began then? Some fans might like to imagine that despite the real world issues attached. Others—like you and me—would not. The important thing is that we both have the space to achieve whatever interpretation of the relationship we please. Far as I can tell, Qrow is 37 at the youngest. Four years at Beacon (17-20), 15 years after Summer’s death (35), and then roughly 2 years of in-canon present time (37). Realistically, he’s probably older than that. Based on the relationship dynamics it seems that Tai didn’t date Summer until he broke up with Raven and given Yang’s age compared to Ruby’s, that adds two years. So Qrow is probably around 39. Even that’s assuming that Raven had Yang right after Beacon. If she didn’t we could push the timeline another year or two, putting Qrow in his early 40’s. I lay all this out to demonstrate that… that’s a lot of time. How old “should” Qrow be before he enters a relationship with someone? Obviously that answer differs from individual to individual, but let’s say for the sake of argument that he should be at least 25. That puts him 5 years out of Beacon, potentially older than when Raven had Yang, and roughly 6 years older than most of our main ships right now (Blake/Yang, Jaune/Pyrrha, Ren/Nora etc.) where fans argue very strongly that at 19 they’re already adults and are able to make informed decisions, be it about relationships or world-shattering secrets. So we’re already holding Qrow to stricter standards than other characters and that still leaves roughly 15 years for him and Ozpin to start something, all of which is time that takes place outside of the Teacher/Student dynamic. It’s a choice to prioritize “But he was his headmaster for 4 years” over “But they were equals for 2 decades.”

Now granted, there’s more to this relationship than just Qrow’s own age. I’ve also seen people bring up the age gap and, more recently, Ozpin’s “manipulation” of Qrow. In regards to the former, we simply have to acknowledge that Ozpin is screwed in that regard. Everyone is younger than him. Almost the entire cast. At some point nearly everyone we meet will have, at some point, been a child while Ozpin is an adult simply by virtue of Ozpin being a reincarnating wizard who has already lived at least a thousand years. The only exceptions to this are Salem, the Gods, or Jinn, all of which are more “problematic” partners to my mind. Which again, isn’t to say no one can ship them together, just that it seems ridiculous to me that—if we’re really going to “justify” an in-canon relationship—we’d prioritize “Salem and Ozpin are the same age that’s so much healthier!” over “Salem abused Ozpin, killed their kids, and has hunted him for years on end. That’s... kind of not great!” It’s a matter of what parts of each relationship we choose to emphasize. And ozqrow is far from the only ship to grapple with this. In the witcher fandom I adore both Geralt/Jaskier and Geralt/Regis. Both of those ships have “issues” in regards to age. Is Jaskier not allowed to be with Geralt because he’s in his 30s and Geralt is in his 80s? Is Geralt not allowed to be with Regis because he’s in his 80s and Regis is in his 400s? When we talk about fantasy series we’re talking about species/races/abilities that are, obviously, fantastic. They don’t exist. Which means that real world concerns can’t perfectly map onto these scenarios. The question is not “Is a 1,000 year age gap problematic?” but rather “Are these both consenting adults who are in a position to make their own informed, romantic decisions?” To which we answer for ozqrow: yes. Unless we specifically imagine that the relationship began when Qrow was just a student but again, that’s purely headcanon. Emphasizing that non-canonical imagining of how a relationship might have started over the canonical years of working together as equal peers makes no more sense than going, “Yeah but there was a time when Regis was an adult and Geralt was just a kid, so if they’d met then it would have been super unhealthy so you shouldn’t ship them :/” They didn’t meet when Geralt was a kid. In the same way, Ozpin and Qrow didn’t start a relationship when Qrow was a kid for the simple reason that they have no canonical romance at all. That puts the power entirely in the viewers’ hands to imagine when/how such a relationship occurs. 

Which leaves us with second issue mentioned: power dynamics and Ozpin’s “manipulation.” Take everything said above and apply it to this point too. That power dynamic only exists if we imagine a relationship while they’re headmaster and student. Which you can! Plenty of people want to write/read about such “problematic” stuff. That’s partly what fandom is for. But again, if that’s not your cup of tea there’s no reason to prioritize those 4 years over the 20 years we get later. I have heard some people say that the relationship is indefinitely imbalanced because of Ozpin’s age/power/leadership/whatever but… that simply makes no sense to me. Or rather, it seems hypocritical. Does that mean it’s “problematic” for Weiss to be with Ruby? After all, Ruby is the leader of their team and calls all the shots. What if Weiss feels like she can’t say no to her?? It’s terribly unhealthy. Does that mean Weiss can’t be with Blake? She was racist, after all, and comes from such a place of privilege. I’m not sure Blake is educated enough to hold her own with Weiss. Does this mean Blake can’t be with Yang? Blake comes from a very rich and powerful family whereas Yang is just a country girl… what if Blake uses that power against her somehow? Does that mean that Nora can’t be with Ruby? Or again, Weiss with Ruby? I mean, Nora is homeless and Weiss has been cut off from the Schnee line, so they might stay in a relationship purely out of fear of being abandoned--super unhealthy. These are all revised versions of things I’ve heard applied to ozqrow: Qrow shouldn’t be with Ozpin because Ozpin is his leader (Ruby/Weiss), because Qrow grew up in an “uneducated” tribe whereas Ozpin is clearly so sophisticated (Blake/Weiss), because Ozpin has power and connections that Qrow could never match (Blake/Yang), because Ozpin is tied to the life Qrow has built and breaking up supposedly threatens that. Which means he can’t ever break up. Which means Qrow is trapped. Which means it’s unhealthy (Nora/Ruby or Ruby/Weiss). They’re all warped, assumption based arguments that are only taken seriously when they’re applied to a ship that people are already inclined to dislike. The takeaway is that every relationship has power dynamics and every relationship has the potential to be “problematic.” Literally everyone. Give me any two people and I can spin some yarn about how one holds too much power over the other for the relationship to be healthy. Which isn’t to say that real power dynamics don’t exist that should be avoided (like a teacher/student relationship as you point out), only that fans are inclined to extend that past the point of logic in an effort demonize ships they don’t like. Someone having trauma in their past (which, again, is everyone at this point in the series) is not the same “power dynamic” as an adult grooming a child (which, again again, Ozpin didn’t do). So when we’re left with the acknowledgement that any relationship has the potential to be unhealthy, we have to ask… is it? And the answer is no. As you say, “We all know that canonically Ozpin ISN’T that kind of person.” That’s what trumps every headcanon and negative assumption. I could headcanon/assume that a Weiss/Blake relationship would be horrific because Weiss would be a racist ass to Blake and Blake would only stay with her because she’s determined not to “run away” from something again… but we don’t see evidence for that on screen and it literally never happens. In the same way, some fans like to headcannon/assume that a Qrow/Ozpin relationship would be horrific because Ozpin would use his power over Qrow in various ways… but we don’t see evidence for that on screen and it literally doesn’t happen. 

If anything, post-Volume 6 I’d say there’s more of a potential problem with Qrow being with Ozpin. Meaning yes, as you point out Qrow has a lot of stuff in his past that makes him potentially vulnerable—toxic family environment, drinking problem, etc.—but we learn irrevocably in Volume 6 that so does Ozpin. He was manipulated by the Gods into accepting this “impossible” task. He was in an abusive relationship with Salem and, quite literally, didn’t survive it. He’s lived a thousand years of unimaginable trauma. He arguably was also an alcoholic at one point given the drinking we saw in Jinn’s flashback. He’s been betrayed time and time again by his allies… of which Qrow is a part. Arguably Ozpin has even more vulnerabilities than Qrow but both characters are in a position to hurt one another with those vulnerabilities: Ozpin could play on Qrow’s desire for family and Qrow could play on Ozpin’s need for support. That “could” is, again, important because it’s mostly headcanon speculation that chooses to see the relationship as inevitably negative… with the exception that canonically Qrow is the only one who we see using these vulnerabilities against Ozpin. The fandom likes to assume that Ozpin “manipulated” Qrow all these years but we simply never see that happening. In true RWBY fashion, RT gave Qrow a very damning sounding line—I gave up my life for you—and then let the fandom assume really negative connotations. In reality though what that line translated to was, “You trusted me despite the fact that I entered your school to learn how to kill you and your allies, then taught me how to be a better person and gave me a purpose in life: to help others, even if I’ve now learned I can’t fix it all in one lifetime.” Like yeah, what kind of horrible “manipulation”?? Ozpin’s supposed power over Qrow has only helped and benefited Qrow, despite how Volume 6 tried to paint that relationship as suddenly negative. What is said doesn’t align with what we’ve seen. In contrast, we do see Qrow using Ozpin’s vulnerabilities against him. He does betray him. He does punch him into a tree. He does help perpetuate those same lies to Ironwood. He does absolve Ruby without offering the same to Ozpin. He does then plant the seed—with absolutely no evidence—that he had a hand in Summer’s death. To be frank, Qrow has treated Ozpin like shit lately and it’s one of the (many) reasons why I hate Volume 6 and 7. Ozpin is coded as the perpetrator, but we never see him taking advantage of Qrow. Meanwhile, Qrow is coded as the victim, but we do see him taking advantage of Ozpin’s vulnerability. One character has helped the other flourish, the other has abandoned him in his greatest time of need. Right now I’d argue that the in-canon ship potential is “problematic” due to Qrow… but that doesn’t mean any of that has to impact fandom shipping. For me personally, I prefer to keep to Volume 1-5 material or AUs up until Qrow (hopefully) apologizes for his actions. Then I might feel inclined to write canon-based ozqrow content for Volume 8, or whenever we re-establish that respect (with AU elements involving giving Ozpin his own body. The Oscar situation is a whole other thing I’m not going to delve into here. Suffice to say, I’m considering Qrow and Ozpin as separate people right now). But even if they never make up, even if Qrow, or Ozpin, or both of them end up being completely toxic for one another, that doesn’t stop anyone from imagining something better for them in fandom. Fandom is transformative for a reason.

All of which isn’t to say that people have to like the ship (obviously) only that in the same vein it means that no one has to justify liking the ship either. Again, for me personally, I usually need some in-canon, healthy dynamic to work with in order to enjoy a ship. It’s why I love ozqrow because we did see that for 5 volumes and may indeed see it again. In contrast, it’s why I don’t love pairings like Yen/Geralt or Bakugo/Izuku because I don’t feel like I have a healthy foundation to work from and, for me, a healthy foundation is usually necessary (with some exceptions like my childhood love of Erik/Christine). But all those are preferences. They don’t—and shouldn’t—dictate anyone else’s enjoyment. Which is the problem when people don’t just assume that ozqrow is inherently unhealthy (which I hope I’ve somewhat helped to disprove here) but likewise assume that that’s necessary for anyone else to ship them. For you that potential coding of teacher/student and power dynamics might outweigh otherwise liking their dynamic and that’s fine! That’s a preference! But a preference doesn’t give anyone the right to throw shade at others for enjoying something different. 

Which finally brings me back to the hypocrisy in all this. Ozqrow (and Blake/Yang) are the only ships I’ve come across in this fandom where the fans have to continually “prove” why their ships are valid. Not as potentially canonical relationships, but just as fandom-based ships. Just as fictional preferences we enjoy as a hobby. It says something about the fandom’s bias that we can watch Ilia, on screen, be one of the bad guys, kidnap Blake, try to murder her parents, try to ship her off to her abuser… and despite all this the fandom went, “Oh yeah. I could see them together.” But Ozpin and Qrow, who have supported one another for the vast majority of the series, suddenly need to provide receipts for how healthy their relationship is and if you don’t do a good enough job proving that, it’s cancelled. That’s messed up. None of these ships are “bad.” Ilia/Blake shippers should go wild with that potential! It’s just an issue of comparison and applying different, rigged standards to certain ships. This is a fandom where people ship the heroes with the likes of Cinder, Roman, Raven, Ilia, Salem, Tyrian… tons of killers and would-be killers, characters who have done objectively horrifying things. But it’s when two loving adult men might get together that it’s suddenly too “problematic”? That says more about that bias than it does the ship. For you, anon, if I’ve failed to alleviate those concerns and that coding means ozqrow isn’t really your thing? Great! You can drop the ship, involve yourself only in AUs, or anything in between. That’s how fandom should work. The problem lies not in asking polite questions about how we might interpret a relationship in canon (which as said in the original reblog I greatly enjoy doing!) but rather in some fans’ tendency to demand a moral standard from a ship that none other is held to and then when fans inevitably fail to meet that standard, they’re criticized for daring to like the ship in the first place. Ultimately whether you end up shipping/liking ozqrow is up to you—which is precisely where the power should be. In your hands, not the hands of someone on tumblr trying to make others feel guilty.

I couldn’t figure out a way to make this related to what Alex told Michael in 2x10, not without dealing with the whole kidnapping thing, but then I realized it didn’t have to be related. I’m not sure why this wanted to be post 2x06, but it is. Or, a slightly different version of 2x06.

My headcanons for Alex’s background here are the same as I used in setting fire to our insides (for fun).

“Hangover?” Kyle asks.

“Yeah. It's fine, it'll go away.” Alex hops back on his crutch awkwardly, unstable. His left shoulder is too painful to take his weight, or he would have grabbed both crutches. Hangovers mess badly with his balance.

Kyle follows him into the living room. “I'm guessing that's not why you called me?”

“No. I, uh, I kinda got stabbed?”

“You got what?” Kyle stammers.

“Yesterday was...complicated,” Alex mutters. He sits down on his piano bench, both because it allows him to face away from the eastern windows and because he doesn't think he'll be able to get up again if he lets himself get comfortable in an armchair. He leans his crutches against the keyboard.

“Are you bleeding? Show me. When did this happen?”

Alex sighs and starts trying to takes his shirt−Michael's shirt−off. It was easier to put it on. Or maybe he just ignored the pain when he rushed to get dressed this morning, Michael and Maria's eyes on him and discomfort seeping into his bones. It's harder to ignore, now that his brain doesn't register any immediate threat. Plus, both his head and his leg are killing him. He spent the whole night with his prosthesis on, almost twenty-four hours of walking and riding in a car and fucking getting stabbed, and it did a number on his stump.

“It was cleaned up and treated, but I'm pretty sure it needs a couple stitches,” he says.

“What did this?” Kyle asks, coming to kneel down in front of Alex, setting down his medical bag. “Who did this?”

“Doesn't matter.” Alex grits his teeth as Kyle carefully rips off the bandage. Sure enough, the injury is still seeping blood. “He's taken care of. And it was an ice pick. Before you ask, yes, I'm up to date with my shots. Not my first stabbing.”

“That is not reassuring. Did you lose a lot of blood? Felt lightheaded?”

Alex shakes his head. “I, uh, fainted, but I think it was just the pain. The drive back was not fun.”

Kyle prods at the wound, making Alex hiss in pain. “This definitely needs stitches. I need you to give me a timeline here. When did you get stabbed?”

Alex watches him start to prepare his kit. “Around midnight.”

“Eighteen hours ago. And why didn't you call me right away?” Kyle asks without looking up.

“It wasn't that bad. Beside, we were in the middle of nowhere. Maria called Michael to tow us back.”

“You were with Maria and Michael,” Kyle states flatly.

“Well, just with Maria. We were tracking down a lead on Mimi's kidnapping. Guy attacked me, chased Maria, she knocked him out, and his twin shot him. Michael showed up and drove us back, and they patched me up.” Alex leaves the rest out. The awkward hours in the car, trying to breathe through the pain and not watch Maria only have eyes for Michael. How his heart broke in a million pieces, again, watching Michael so scared for Maria, watching them kiss. How he still couldn't take his eyes away from him, couldn't stand up and leave, call a ride-share or something, anything, anything not to have to watch this.

How Maria kissed him. How she grabbed his hand and put it on Michael's thigh. What could have happened, if Michael hadn't inadvertently elbowed Alex straight into his wound and Alex hadn't nearly passed out from the pain.

He will always wonder, probably. Call it morbid curiosity. By then, he was already floating far out of his body, his brain incapable of processing things. Disappearing, like he's always done when it gets too hard. Michael's shock brought him back hard, harder than any pain could have.

“And when was that?”

“We got back at dawn. Michael−” Alex pauses to grit his teeth as Kyle starts to stitch him up, “−drove me back here.”

“And none of you thought to call me? Or, you know, do what most people do when they're injured and drive to the nearest ER?”

Kyle's tone is sarcastic, but his worry is real. And that's exactly why Alex hoped until now to avoid having to tell him. “I was fine,” he says. It took him almost fifteen minutes to convince Michael that he didn't have to stay out of guilt, that he could go back to the Airstream where Maria waited. It took him almost a full hour to decide that the only way he was going to forget about that and finally sleep was the bottle of Patron in his liquor cabinet.

“That's when you decided to get hammered?” Kyle asks, finishing his last knot.

Alex shrugs. “Seemed better than just offing myself at the time,” he jokes.

Kyle's response is very much not what he expected−not that Alex knows what he expected. Kyle's face goes slack with shock and he stares at Alex for a solid thirty seconds, bloody hands and needles forgotten. At least he's already finished the stitches, Alex thinks a little hysterically.

“Alex,” he says slowly, deliberately moving his hands into Alex's sight so he doesn't come off as a threat. “Do you mean that? What you just said.”

Alex replays it in his head, quickly, trying to figure out where the hitch is. Oh. Right, regular people don't react well to that. He forgot, again. Last time Karl dragged him straight to the base hospital and he had to argue for half-an-hour with the on-call therapist that it was just a joke. And Karl knew way more than Kyle does about gallows humor.

Alex goes to deny it, go back on his words, but the thought of Karl−of his body sprawled on Alex's, eyes unseeing, heavy, so heavy, so still−makes him grimace against his will. And the moment has passed, it's too late to just wave it away. The concern is anchored in Kyle's eyes now and won't just leave.

Alex works his jaw, hesitating. “I'm not going to do anything.”

“But you think about it.”

Alex doesn't deny it.

“You know what it is, right?” Kyle asks, biting his lip. He's clearly unsure how to proceed, but he's not going to let it go. Alex wishes they could have this conversation at another time. His head feels far too heavy for his neck, and he wants to support it with his hand, but Kyle will be looking for any sign of distress, now. Which means that Alex won't get any respite. Fuck.

“Yes, Kyle, I've been to therapy. Still go. I know what suicide ideation is. Always had the thoughts. Never tried anything, beside the once, and I won't.”

Kyle's face shifts. And...fuck. Alex's brain-to-mouth filter is fucked, he's still half drunk. He didn't mean to let that slip.

“You attempted suicide?” Kyle asks carefully.

Alex swallows. “I was fourteen. I thought I'd hit rock bottom. I was pretty naive. Look, just because I think of it doesn't mean I actually want to do it. It doesn't work like that. It's just...thought patterns. That's where my mind goes when I feel bad, that's all. It's a coping mechanism.”

Kyle doesn't answer, and he goes back to treating Alex's wound, slowly and deliberately. More disinfectant makes Alex screw up his face at the sting. Kyle covers it in gauze and tapes a bandage over it, cleaner and better than Michael's was. Alex watches him, wondering if this will change everything between them. Once they got over their history, Kyle has been pretty good at respecting his agency, not mothering him because of his disability. But things changed with Karl, when he found out. It was just a few weeks before−

Alex shakes his head to get rid of the thought. He focuses on his wound instead, because physical pain is always easier to deal with. He rolls his shoulder to check his range of motion. Good enough, though using a crutch on that side will hurt for a while. Hiding it at work shouldn't be too hard, at least.

“Fourteen,” Kyle says suddenly. “That's when we stopped talking.”

Something cold settles inside Alex. “Don't you dare think it was your fault,” he snarls.

“Okay, okay,” Kyle physically backs off. “I just−I think about what I did to you a lot.”

“Look, you were a dick, but you were also just a kid. If you want to blame someone, blame my father. Not yourself.”

“As long as you remember that that's valid for you, too,” Kyle says with a raised eyebrow.

Alex looks away. He won't admit that Kyle hit a nerve, but this rings far too true.

“I'm done here,” Kyle changes the subject. “You hurt anywhere else?”

“No. Spent too much time on my leg, but that will heal on its own.”

“You need rest. I don't want you at work for at least two days. I'll write you a note, or whatever form you need to get medical leave.”

“Kyle, I can't afford my supervisors finding out what I'm doing with my free time.”

Kyle rolls his eyes. “Then taking a couple sick days because of your prior injury is better than showing up sleep-deprived and with a sore shoulder.”

“Fine,” Alex sighs. He could really use the sleep, he knows, but two days of running circles in his house thinking about Michael and Maria is not appealing. And that's if his brain doesn't decide that a little stabbing calls for a rerun of every trauma he's ever had.

“And Alex? Please at least call your therapist?”

“Yeah,” Alex breathes. “Yeah, I will.”

He doesn't see her regularly anymore, but he knows this is the right call. At least Kyle isn't trying to get him to do more, like seek inpatient help.

“Thank you,” he adds, without looking at Kyle who is zipping up his bag.

“You want me to stay?” Kyle offers. “Get some pizza, watch a movie or something?”

“You're just off your shift, you must be dying to get home,” Alex says.

“Nah. No one there waiting for me. I'll just do the same at my place. Feel like some company?”

Alex hesitates for a moment. “Sure.”

“Then get comfortable,” Kyle smiles, kicking off his shoes. He gestures at the TV. “You got Netflix on this?”

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom

I guess it depends on how you define being in a fandom--if it’s just consuming and appreciating a piece of content, then I guess my longest fandoms are Discworld, first read at 11 or so (that would be 1993), Chrono Trigger, played at the tender age of 13, and Final Fantasy VI (then called III in the US), played right after. I definitely had headcanons, theories, enjoyed fan art, etc... I never created anything for them until many years later, but I was definitely a passive fan (although come to think of it my very first proto-piece of fic was FFVI but I was too nervous to post it anywhere, even had I ever finished it). I had other early fandoms that I DID create content for, but were somewhat ephemeral insofar as my interest goes (Magic Knight Rayearth, Sailor Moon) by which I mean I enjoyed any kind of new content produced by my interest waned when there wasn’t any more of it. As far as longest active fandoms go, wherein I have been more or less constantly creating content and/or thinking about it, it’s gotta be Ghost Trick, which was pretty revolutionary in getting me to actually finish stuff and then also show people!

1. More acknowledgement that it exists from its publisher! Ports for things! Anniversary celebrations! Official art! A sequel, I say nervously, because sequel culture kind of sucks and I don’t want a sequel that takes the cast from the first one and screws it all up for them again. Same world, more worldbuilding, possibly different characters with new interesting powers? Sissel can be there though. More puzzles! More tricks! No fridged wives!

2. More nuanced, critical thought and meta about people who aren’t Sissel or the main villain. I’m also going to piggyback off my answer here and say that I would specifically like to see this for Lynne, Emma, Memry, and the two spoiler ladies, just for variety’s sake?

This isn’t specific to GT fandom but I can extrapolate to most: if the canon presents the fans with women who SHOULD be interesting, nuanced, complex people (e.g. the Romantic Interest or idk, THE PROTAGONIST) but they just...aren’t, for one reason or the other, I’d love to see more involvement from the fans as a whole to remedy the situation, at least in fanon. If they can woobify hot villains and that’s publicly acceptable, we can ALSO make female protagonists more interesting on a much larger scale. Fight the internalized misogyny!!

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)

Since I did my more big GT headcanons here, let me do some smaller ones here. Trying to think of ones you don’t already know and add to some of that meta!

1. Kamila grows up an inventor. I think this is a given, but I think as she grows older and she has Sissel’s input, she can far surpass the Azul’s weird technology. Some of this goes to the police but far more of it will be used for countering the effects of Temsik in the world--if it was found once it will be found again! She and Sissel (and maybe Amelie in time) become the guardians and protectors of the park but in a way much more helpful than the one that’s already there

2. I touched on this in Mischief of the Gods but I think that in the new timeline there will be a need for a whole Special Investigations Unit specifically geared to tracking and checking the effects of Temsik, and who better to deal with it than our Odd Squad? Jowd as chief, Cabanela as deputy chief, Rindge as lieutenant, and Memry and Lynne as partners, with Sissel and Missile as occasional helpers and informants...even Bailey and his partner might have a place there. Heck, I’d like to think they can even get some of the Azuls on board over time, although maybe not the ones we know. Perhaps this is my Watch-loving heart, but I just want to read more case-fic about what they get up to...

Dating Vanya headcanons

she loves physical affection! in public she almost always has her hand on yours, or sits close enough for your legs to touch.

when you're working, she never just asks how's it going like normal people. she kisses the top of your head and then rests her chin there before asking you. all with the softest smile ever

I was about to say, I can't see Jason letting his guard down as much as intoxication would. I CAN see Jason drinking apple juice and pretending to be drunk. (Funny how I can remember Dick drinking, never more than one or two drinks, and Jason refusing wine, but the fanfic writers get it al wrong.)

Yeah, tbh, I don’t really see any of the Batkids ever being or becoming even casual drinkers. They all value control too much, and have too much experience with mind and mood-altering substances for it to be appealing to them in my personal opinion. 

Just my personal headcanon is like, they tend to treat drinking as like, another skill to acquire. They try it to maybe just have enough experience with it that they can fake it undercover and know what they’re doing, or that if they end up in a situation where they have to take at least a quick drink to sell their cover like, they’re not going to be totally blind-sided by the taste or sensation, especially because most of their reputations don’t or aren’t likely to lend themselves to being completely unfamiliar with alcohol. And maybe they occasionally make an point to build up a tolerance in case for some reason they need it, but I honestly can’t really ever buy any of them as casual drinkers.

I mean, I focus a lot on Dick’s times brainwashed or under someone else’s control, and also his rigid insistence on self-determination in his life, and I just can’t honestly see any mindset where he’s like yes, lowering my inhibitions and lessening my ability to be in control of myself is exactly what I’m looking for. Its kinda like how I drastically disagree with takes on him as submissive in any kind of dom/sub fic, lol. Its not about the partner, its about the fact that Dick isn’t the kind of control freak who looks for opportunities to take a break from the stresses of holding such an iron control over his self.....rather, IMO, Dick is that way BECAUSE of how often he’s had virtually NO control of himself or what happens to him, and how much that always....sucks for him. 

He tries to maintain self-control and control stuff in his life wherever and whenever he can because he’s not about to lose any of the basically rare opportunities to not HAVE to push back against someone else’s will or expectations for him, where he can just be uncontested in being in charge of his autonomy and own destiny. And I honestly have never seen anything in his character that suggests he’d ever remotely be looking for or welcome to opportunities to basically just....willingly hand over the control of himself that he fights soooo damn hard to obtain and maintain....because when has that EVER ended well for him, you know? So I just....don’t buy sub Dick and never have, and I don’t buy Dick as a casual drinker even, for pretty much the same exact reasons.

Jason I see as a bit more complicated, because of a couple factors. First, there’s the presence of drugs and alcohol in his early life and how much that affected his life as just a bystander, essentially. And its not like every child of an alcoholic parent grows up to be hostile to alcohol, etc. But in Jason’s case I feel that he would be, like he’d almost personify drugs and alcohols as an actual antagonist in his life that have made him suffer, been the actual enemy that prevented him from having a real go at a family with his first parents. And thus he’d just be viciously opposed to them in their entirety, like even as a expansive, nebulous concept of them and everything related to them. Which would also play into things like his insistence that drug dealers in Gotham not sell to kids, etc.

Also, there’s the fact that Jason kinda ended up with....gap years in his development, where the normal linear timeline of developing as a teenager was derailed by his death and then supplanted by a very unorthodox later development that was guided by assassins and influenced by an external-turned-internal force that had a definite influence on his emotions and thought patterns at times. So Jason kinda missed out on a number of years where he could have potentially worked through a lot of his childhood issues with abuse, his parents and drugs and alcohol to a degree further than he did in canon, but just......never got the opportunity to. So it was like....hitting pause on all of that and then unpause when he actually came back to Gotham and rejoined society in his own way, as that put him around these kinds of things again and forced an internal confrontation with how he felt about them now.

And then there’s also the matter of the Pit itself.....much like Dick, but in entirely different ways, Jason has been extremely impacted by things that are not his fault or choosing, that originate OUTSIDE of him and end up controlling or influencing him internally, again through no choice of his own.....and thus, same as Dick, I don’t see how any substance that lessened his control over himself during the times he actually HAS it, would like....remotely appeal to him.

But then again on the other hand, I do think Jason is very self-destructive at times, not more so than Dick, as he can be very self-destructive as well, but just in different ways. Like, Dick IMO is someone who self-destructs quietly and over time. Suffering in silence, not availing himself of any of the opportunities he has to get help from others in various matters because he either doesn’t trust that they’ll prioritize him or he doesn’t feel that he deserves to be, or a combination of both. Jason, IMO, is neither innately more self-destructive or less, its just that....his tendency towards self-destruction manifests pretty explosively, like, in singular burning bright kind of instances that flare up, are just colossally bad decisions that he very quickly regrets, but then die back down and leave him cleaning up the aftermath, but at least having gotten whatever caused that particular turn towards self-destruction like, kinda out of his system.

So his means of self-destruction tend to just be LOUDER, and more.....in your face...but they also come and go more quickly, IMO. And one of those are pretty much the only time or reason I can see for him ever engaging in drinking or voluntarily giving up control.....like, the appeal specifically is a kind of self-punishment, and thus makes for an ideal weapon of choice at least once.....BUT again, the caveat there is like I said, I view Jason as someone who cycles through periods of self-destruction, but then he like...moves past it (or at least on a surface level, like, he FEELS like he has, though the initial problem often stil remains under the surface). But the point is, I think he regrets these instances of self-destruction soon after they happen....and I also think he’s someone who believes very strongly in not making the same mistakes twice. 

Like, he knows not to take things for granted better than anyone. Shit doesn’t go according to plan, my personal headcanon for him is his ideal followup is the immediate realization well, that didn’t work, time for something completely different....and then he does something completely different in the hopes of getting closer to his actual desired result. So I could see him doing something like getting black out drunk, etc, as one of these bouts of self-destruction....but the key in my mind, is I could only see him doing that ONCE. Once he’d done it and regretted it, it’d be crystallized in his mind as a Mistake and like, nope, not doing that again. Even when having another tendency towards self-destruction at a later date....I think he’d do it in a different way.

Also, I’ve never bought Jason as a smoker, like, I could see him faking it for The Mood or whatever, lol, but like.......this is a kid who grew up malnourished and thus had to take on criminals as a very under-sized Robin. He comes back after the Pit like, over six feet tall and well-oiled muscle that makes it SO much easier to kick ass as a vigilante? Why the FUCK would he ever screw that up by messing with his lungs or anything else, you know? If anything, I see Jason as being like, as much a ‘my body is my temple’ kind of guy as Dick is, just for different reasons.

I’ve always said I see Dick and Jason having a lot more in common than they’re usually credited with, and all of this is a huge part of why. They both just have HUGE issues with control in regards to themselves and their lives, and just being able to HAVE it and to take advantage of it, do what THEY want to do rather than constantly being moved about by the whims of others and having to always adjust or adapt to whatever everyone else was doing or the box they were being forced in by situations, etc. They’ve BEEN without control, self-autonomy, in ways and to degrees most people couldn’t imagine, so, like....its IMO more likely to be that much more precious and valuable to them than it is even to most people? Like, these are two men who I don’t see ever giving it up without a fight, and thus, they’re just like.....I’m gonna hard pass on the alcohol, etc.

And its got nothing to do with judgment on their part, I don’t think, like, other than the fact that they can’t personally relate to seeing the appeal. Its just the end result of lowered inhibitions/loss of self control or autonomy that they’re like...yeah, that’s what we’re not on board with, thanks but no thanks. Not for us.

I don’t have as strong of headcanons about the other kids just because they’re either too young or it just doesn’t come up as much, such as with Cass (though you can probably guess my headcanon for Cass there given that I talk about the similarities ALL three of the eldest Wayne kids share in a lot of ways, lol) but honestly I think it’d be more of the same with all of them, even if not always for quite the same reasons or quite as strong of reasons. Like, they’ve all been raised with too much reason to value self-control and too little cause to see lowered inhibitions as appealing, so the Batfam as a whole I personally headcanon as being nah, we get our highs from adrenaline and being weird as fuck, thanks though.

OH GOD ALL-TIME FAVORITE SHIP YOU SAY. YOU KNOW DAMN WELL I CAN’T CHOOSE ONE.

(it’d probably be Stevidot anyway; objectively I’ve done more for it than anything else I ever shipped in my life and it’s absolutely precious both in platonic and romantic forms)

BUT IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS… and attempt to tone down redundancy, let’s see what other ships earned the “OTP” label from me!

I mean, I pretty much had to lowkey ship Mamoru Chiba x Ami Mizuno because Usagi/Mamoru is basically what Connverse wishes it could be as far as the Ultimate Ship goes. So at the height of my involvement in the fandom (you know, late 90s era), I was never brave enough to make anything for this ship. But the few times they get to interact in the classic anime is legit adorable stuff and I wish we could’ve had more of it. 

Before Gem Ascension, before Travels of the Trifecta, my greatest multichaptered epic was a Digimon Tamers fic called By My Decision. I was a hardcore Digimon fan in my early teen years well before I ever got into Pokemon, in fact. And I shipped shitloads of pairings in Adventure and 02 - I can only imagine how many of those would be demonized by the new age fandom puritans of Tumblr nowadays. You can actually see literally everything I ever shipped on my FFN profile here.

But I didn’t really make anything for the first two seasons. Tamers was what really sparked my inspiration, because Takato and Jenrya… honestly, they’re just adorable together. They get to bond a lot, they’re really in touch with their feelings (contrasting to token girl Ruki who was a stiff hardass most of the time), and I often got the impression that Jenrya, unlike Takato, really doesn’t have any other friends. 

So of course, I tormented these two on the regular in my story. I of course didn’t forget Juri (for I love her dearly); I was kinda trying a love triangle subversion with Takato angsting over loving both Jenrya and Juri… while Juri’s still got so much PTSD (story is 2 years post-series), shipping is hardly on her mind, and Jenrya’s outright in denial of his feelings for Takato to the point where it very literally screws him up and awakens some inner darkness of his own. I even had Jenrya and Juri bond, but it was pretty platonic stuff. 

Still, this ship was way down on the totem pole at the height of Tamers’ fandom. Very frustrating. Takato/Ruki and Jenrya/Ruki were way more popular and I hated both of those ships something fierce. I love Ruki, but I just cringe at the idea of shipping her with either of her fellow leads. Then Jenrya/Ryo got something of a cult following that I couldn’t stand; admittedly I was jealous it was getting the representation that I felt Takato/Jenrya desperately needed more, and I also didn’t like Jenryo in its own right, anyway. 

But yeah. Jenkato is a very underappreciated ship that I loved dearly and invested many of my teenage years into.

So, here’s a fun fact: While I played the classic games (my cousins had a Sega Genesis), the way I was mostly raised on Sonic was via the first two cartoon series and the Archie Comics version of the franchise. Archieverse was largely based on the SatAM cartoon; Amy Rose also didn’t exist in the show and it took about 25 issues for her to show up in the comic. 

So I was big on Tails x Amy. For a long-ass time. And really, the ship was really only feasible in the Archie continuity. There, Tails is actually older than his usual depicted canon age and Amy is introduced to be around his age before she artificially aged herself with a magic ring so that she could later take on her Sonic Adventure design. 

Before that… in these years, Sally was the most well-known love interest of Sonic in the west. So Sonic/Sally seemed like a lock (none of us knowing how Sega felt about that at the time) - and in retrospect I honestly believe it’s a far better Sonic ship than his more well-known modern alternatives. 

So, because of Sally’s prominence, Amy was relegated to Sonic’s fangirl and her crush wasn’t really that big a deal. Honestly, that was for the best, as I by far found Amy way more tolerable in Archie’s incarnation than the majority of her other canon contemporaries (Sonic the Comic Amy Rose is more of a competent badass, though).

Tails and Amy had some good banter in Archieverse and the few times they were allowed time to do stuff together as a duo, they were very cute and endearing and I loved them. 

Tails also had a lot more going on in terms of character development and backstory in Archieverse. Like, a lot more going on. He even had a “Chosen One” deal that sadly didn’t have a very good payoff, but. It’s more than what they really do with Tails in any other continuity.

Bear in mind, I started on these comics when I was eight or nine years old. Yet I followed this comic well into my late teens and even part of my early twenties, so you can tell Archieverse Sonic has shitloads of lore to it to have that long of an ongoing narrative. 

After Sonic Adventure was released, then the Sonamy shipping started to explode. Amy was front-and-center in the spotlight, Sally became the obscure figure in the fandom, and it’s more-or-less stayed that way ever since. 

But I was like “It’s okay! Tails and Amy are still tight in Archieverse! Sucks they have to adjust to Sega’s many changes but they’re still best buddies who’ll hopefully get married one day….” 

Then 25 Years Later happened and for some goddamned stupid-ass reason, Tails was paired with Mina the Mongoose and I believe Amy was suspiciously never ever mentioned in the future timeline stories (as Sonic and Sally did become endgame in this little series). 

Tails and Mina had little to no interaction, and Mina was largely there to be a potential Sonic love interest, and even after she moved on, she got together with another character and still didn’t interact with Tails. 

I was sooooooo pissed off. Archieverse was my one hope for Tails/Amy becoming a thing and they ruined it for me. :(

I did get a consolation prize in Geoffrey St. John x Hershey becoming so canon they actually did marry. That’s another one I shipped ever since they first interacted years and years ago.

Of course, Hershey was then “killed off” - and was set for a major comeback, but Ken Penders put a stop to that and had them both erased from reality because fuck Ken Penders, I actually got a nice thing and you yanked it right out of my hands.

Genis Sage x Mithos Yggdrasill from Tales of Symphonia, a ship I hardcore loved enough to write about. Also a ship I think Tumblr would burn me at the stake for shipping at all, but you know what? Fuck Genis x Presea. It’s a boring-ass puppy love ship that in its own right should be lambasted similarly according to anti logic. 

…. did I get sidetracked? I did? Pfff. Okay, let’s try and get to another question.

How I started shipping Stevidot?

Pretty simple story, really. I binged SU all the way up to Escapism (Change Your Mind hadn’t aired yet) last December/January. Also watched a looooot of Youtube clips. Most involving Peridot.

And inevitably, most involving Steven as well. 

When I started getting into Peridot and SU as a whole enough to seek out fanfiction and whatnot, I didn’t really have any set shipping preferences at first. But when I made myself think about it… honestly, Stevidot just felt the most natural to me. I wanted to see stories about antics with those two specifically - I never liked Lapidot and Amedot did nothing for me ever. So Stevidot was like, pretty much the only thing I really focused on after a while.

Then I found A Gem Like You. And suddenly, INSPIRATION! I developed headcanons for Watcher’s fic, I started reading as much Stevidot as I could, and I was convinced it was the best pairing in the world and fucking hell I need to give it some representation after I noticed how relatively niche it was in the fandom. 

And so, Stevidot consumed my soul for all time. I hope those clods are happy.

Rant about a ship, you say…

Good god, that really does need to be its own post. I have so much to say about various ships in general, I may need a bit to… uh, figure that out. Or throwing out some random ones I’d know about would help my focus, fff.

If Galahad ever shows up in your Otome game, what would his relationship with his father be like?

I was actually going to include Galahad as a romance option originally, but several people said they headcanoned him as asexual, so I decided not to enter that debate.  Maybe he’ll be a route I’ll add after the base game is done, we’ll see.

He could also show up as a child rather than a romance option (the timeline of Arthurian canon is super-wonky; in Princess of Swords, this is a side effect of Merlin continually messing with the timeline to try to make things go right).  In either event, I think Lancelot would feel very conflicted about him- he’s a nice kid ho looks up to him, and he hasn’t done anything wrong, but he was the product of something horrible.  Plus he’d feel a mixture of guilty (he wasn’t there to raise his own child) and angry (why should he be expected to take responsibility for a child conceived by deception?)

Princess of Swords already deals with things like violence and kidnapping, but I’m still wary of writing such a sensitive topic and screwing it up.  But it is a famous aspect of Lancelot’s life, so it may be worth attempting.
