Thinking about Elaine of Corbenic and the problem of the love potion as literary device. To medieval writers, Elaine of Corbenic seems to have been a tragic heroine, but she needs to have drugged Lancelot so he can sire a child with her without technically cheating, just as Guinevere needs to be unpleasable so he can show off how devoted he is to her. Modern readers are- correctly!- not so forgiving of him being treated like that. On the other hand, is it good to buy into medieval stereotypes of women being so cruel? I'm fine with works more sympathetic to Elaine, where she either slept with Lancelot consensually (amalgamations with Elaine of Astolot do this) or it was a muddier case where both were drinking heavily, though I know not everyone feels that way. Just look at Agravain- medieval lit was an absolute coin flip if he was a good or a bad guy!
At least for Princess of Swords, I can focus on how Lancelot feels. Unless Elaine of Corbenic actually shows up (which I'm not ruling out), the important thing isn't whether she was irredeemably monstrous or not- the important thing is that Lancelot was traumatized, and how he deals with romance following it.

I was literally blown away by Tears of the Kingdom. I've literally never had this feeling for a game since Ocarina of Time. It definitely had exceeded my expectations. Easily Game of the Year. I cannot wait for the Future of Zelda!

A short Princess of Swords/Camelot fic
"What have you gotten me into?" you demand of Mordred. He gently places his hands on your shoulders and whispers soothing sentiments, but you will have none of it. "I heard you with those men! I heard what you all said! Burn a little town or slay a dozen men? Not a maiden is ever more in threat? I suppose if Maleagant had only asked your permission to abduct me, you'd have made him royal advisor!"
"Rowena, my love," Mordred says, "as my wife you will be the safest woman in the realm! Any knight who so much as made you nervous would end with his head on a pike!"
"Of course, that settles everything! No other problems there! And I've been to Scotland, it was quite pleasant!"
"Darling," he says, pulling you close, "those men you heard bemoaning goodness are the ones who will be in the vanguard on the field of battle in my coup. They'll all die heroically in the war, or else they'll be hanged for crimes that I certainly did not give them permission to commit. Do you understand?"
"I made the wrong choice somewhere," you mutter. "There must have been a moment, at the beginning, where I could have said -- no. But somehow I missed it. Never matter. I'll get it right next time."
"Rowena?"
"I said, I'm going to lie down and close my eyes, and when I wake up, everything will be alright!" If ever there was a moment for a meddlesome wizard, you reflect, surely this is it.
