Hello!! what do you think about the tag those days? do you have a fav blog? who do you think is saving the tag from dying with posts and theories?

i think the tag is slowly dying tbh and it's sad to see? the reality is that for the past year or so the tag has been kept alive (from what i've seen and my personal experience here) because of art/fic creators and analysis blogs. however, it's been a year since s4 dropped and as i've seen some people around the tag say, everything that could've been analysed or said about byler in the last season or all seasons has already been said. now, i personally LOVE doing analysis even to this day, doesn't matter if i'm probably repeating something someone else spotted and blogged about two months ago. it's fun to make those posts, but we can't ignore that they are becoming repetitive and that side of the tag is burning out. because of that, things like fics/art/headcanons/ficlets/aus are so important now.

we don't have to run out of content to enjoy in our tag, but people should be willing to step outside their comfort zone and accept that canon is limited to what can he done and said about byler. aus however open new doors that this tag hasn't really explored yet, and for some reason there's a bit of resistance? and that leads us to a dead end because then there's no new not repetitive content and the tag starts dying even with its huge following.

another issue is definitely the lack of rb in the tag. i can jump on any post in the byler tag and check the notes and i know the ratio between likes and rbs will be ridiculous. ofc i can't force anyone to rb if they don't want to, but liking a post and not rb kills a post bc it stops reaching new people who will then engage with said post and then it will reach even more blogs. liking does nothing, it's a dummy button.

rb not only allows a post to stay alive, it's also a great opportunity to create conversations in the tags and engage with other people on this side of the internet. and well if you aren't into that or don't like to add tags to every rb, a simple rb still does much more than a like.

HP Rec Fest, Day 14

Today’s prompt for @hprecfest was actually a great exercise because it made me realize that I haven’t been reading any new series lately 😦 I had to fight the instinct to mention my usual go-to recs that I often scream about - Tales from the Special Branch (check the gorg rec by @obliviateobsession here!) and my beloved Euphoria aka the ultimate dilf!Draco fic - but since the idea is to highlight some hidden gems here we go with two other brilliant reads. You can see from my blurbs how excited I am to be reccing these - I intentionally chose 2 series on the short(er) side because I know that 100k+ works can be really intimidating for those who don’t have a lot of time or focus to spare. Also, I need more people reading these so we can all scream about them together!

Headway (orphaned, E, 30k) - Drarry + Harry/Ron/Hermione + Romione

“It’s called courting,” Draco spat suddenly, livid and red in the face. “I wouldn’t expect you to understand a single thing about it, actually Potter, since it’s formal, and there are rules, and neither of those are concepts you’d know anything about even if they took on human form and kicked you right in the fucking dick.”

so I might be cheating because this also has some delicious golden trio love but who cares, not me 🌝 I got into this triad thanks to this series and I love going back to it for comfort. as per, seefin slaps us in the face with impressive characterization and flawless writing; the build up and multiple one-on-one dynamics are so fun and captivating! Draco’s voice is a triumph, Hermione is equally fantastic and I’m especially fond of this perceptive, sassy and lovable Harry, a combo we don’t often see in fic. I love how messed up and intense all characters are in their feelings, it gives the story a lot of nuance and both dialogue and UST are so masterfully constructed. highly recommend this fic to all writers out there because this is a masterclass on drama and romance; every time I revisit it I’m impressed by the superb characterization and how chaotic puzzle pieces come together and make so much sense. wowza!

the ultimate Dron series! this is top notch h/c material; I love how the author initially deceives us with scorching dirty smut, but as the series progresses the story delves deeply into Draco’s traumatic past and healing journey. pls mind the tags for past abuse - the flashbacks are a mix of hot, disturbing and heartbreaking but I love to see this wonderful loving Ron helping Draco find peace of mind and self-love again. to those who enjoy a bit of dronarry, part 2 is a (quite angsty) instalment dedicated to them, very hot and complicated, but to be honest I am here solely for the delicious Dron dynamics. love the fast sexual burn and slow emotional burn, the self-indulgent kink exploration, the honest and tender understanding and the ways they grow and heal together 💗 I’m struggling to remember a love story that felt so brutal and romantic at once, this is not an easy read but it’s emotionally fulfilling and it has some of the hottest Dron smut out there. treat yourself!

for a little context, this idea came about because i’ve deeply enjoyed getting introduced to some amazing new authors since i’ve started up my fic rec fridays this year! in addition, i get so very excited whenever someone shares something they wrote with me, whether it’s via a tag or a DM. i know firsthand how much vulnerability it takes to share something you've written, so it means the world, genuinely!!! i love getting to read and share y'all's works in this little community 🥺

but! as a person with wicked adhd, i have a hard time keeping up with sent fics when they’re all over the place- buried in my notes, forgotten about in my likes, conversed over in DMs. and then i never read them and feel bad, lol. so i thought we could try a new system!!

all this is to say: i now officially have a tracked tag!! that's right, we are building ourselves a #trashlibrary y’all!! ~party party yeah~ 🥳

This fic. This fic y'all. I have read this fic at least 20 times that is not in any way an exaggeration. It's my own personal master class on how to write uphill battles with sweet relief at the top. A look at what happens after Push, with every bit of possible nuance thrown in to great effect. I have a favorite line from this fic that has just stayed with me for inexplicable reasons:

"TK's list of damnable offenses is longer than his arm, but at the top of that list has to be how fucking pretty he looks when he cries." Me too, Carlos. Me too.

*alleged* art thief TK is probably my favorite TK. The way you've written him in this series just so... correct? I can't even think of a better word. It fits for the AU, but it also makes total sense for the TK we already know and love. Don't know how else to describe it. Hijinks and silliness and seriousness all rolled into one! Love love love!

THE fic. Bank heist gone wrong, Tarlos both being absolutely badass by using their unspoken communication to get through the situation, GRACE/CARLOS TEAMUP! Everything about this fic is absolutely amazing.

You've Got Mail AU that absolutely took me out at the knees. I reread this so many times for ideas on how to work with pacing and conflict/resolution. There is realism but also a narrative whimsy that really makes it read like a true romcom. This fic is a work of high literature.

Missing Moments (series) by @paperstorm

Listen. I could have put anything Andie's written on this list. But this series is an homage to character writing like I've never seen. I do tend to be a character reader, in that I will read a fic even if I don't enjoy the plot/premise all that much IF the characters are written well. These fics have a very healthy dosage of both wonderful character study and beautiful narrative. These are basically considered canon to me, all the scenes we didn't get to see. The writing is beautiful and nuanced and captivating, and I find myself going back to them to see how you captured certain emotions, (mostly the way you do it without dialogue!) and how to incorporate your techniques into my own writing.

Sorry this got so long but I wanted to give my thoughts on each one! I'd love for everyone to check out these fics, if they sound like something you'd enjoy. They've all brought me such such joy and satisfaction from reading :)

Hey y'all 👋

The FSBC is celebrating our ONE YEAR anniversary this month! 🥳🎈🎉🎊

Back in the beginning, we used to read things in a very structured way but now, as we've grown to know each other, we are more go with the flow. Most often, @fsbc-librarian will toss out links to fics that are suited to our tastes. She knows us all so well that it's like having our own personal fic finder. We love her dearly for this. 🌹💋 We still have a semi-structured format for multi-chaptered, multi installment fics. But sometimes, when we're busy, nothing pleases like a good ol' oneshot. my routine is just a bunch of serums + moisturizer topped off with an obsession with cosrx :^) 

here’s some of my personal h/c’s about their routine and how u fit in 💖

kuroo overexfoliated when he was 16 and that’s when he decided to get into skincare 🤡 but you’re really the one who ties it all together and finishes it 😤 has a bunch of blackheads and is hesitant about using acids but trusts you when you rec a bha (salicylic) and to his surprise it works!! you teach other about ingredients and formulations (more teaching on your end since he’s such an overachiever and is in a million different things) but his skin really goes 🌺🌺 when he’s got a routine down.

another amazing boyfriend to do self-care days with because he needs them so much 😭💞 spends the whole day by your side at home doing whatever whenever and holding your hand the whole way through 💖 does the spoon in the fridge technique to depuff his eyes after a late night and always sends u morning selfies with them on his face all “Good morning my Fated One 🥄👄🥄” 💀💀💀

bokuto already has a skincare routine kudos of his sisters when you start dating and only gets back into doing it regularly when he learns you like doing it too 💕 he wants to spend more time with you as if he isn’t already glued to your hip 😭🤚💗💗

but he slaps his face really hard like really hard 😵 you have to teach him to gently dab and work the product into the skin but he sits like a good boy on the edge of the tub and closes his eyes for you 💛💛 keeps his hands on your hips too ☺️ gets acne here and there and sticks on the pimple patches you give him while telling you “y'know, babe, since you gave these to me, it’s like ur kissing me all night long!!! 🥺🥰😚💕” kiss him now pls

akaashi looks like he has his life together but his skincare routine is 😬 uses bar soap and the same anti-aging face lotion as his mom but his skin is 🌹🌸🌺✨he’s skeptical when he tries out new products but he comes around pretty quickly when he notices how less fatigued he looks 💀

he loves doing masks with you and likes to do one in the morning and one at night because you’ve got him hooked now 😤 he’s so dewy oh my god man is literally gleaming like a diamond 💎✨what have u done….. i bet he has a gua sha and rolls your face for you too 🥺 he’s so gentle omg stop…. looks at u with the softest look in his eyes when you giggle at how funny the sheet masks make the two of you look 💞❤️💕💓💝

oikawa while it’s universally thought in fanon that oikawa is a skincare junkie, i’d say that he’s more so really picky and meticulous. he has specific steps he follows to the t and knows how and when to bring in a new product for any seasonal weather and other changes in his skin. he’s not necessarily going to try your products unless he’s convinced they’ll work for him (everyone’s different after all), but he’s definitely open to you trying his and sharing what you both know 😤💗💗

easily one of the best boyfriends to have self care days with: nails, hair, face, online shopping, you name it, he’ll do it with you 🥰💄💅 i think he hates hyaluronic acid and avoids it like the plague lmfao one of his favourite ways to pass the evenings is the two of you together gossiping with your masks on and eating snacks 🌹🥰🥰🌹

iwaizumi lmfao this mf’er is sooo handsome 🥵 so i say oily skin that’s prone to breakouts 😇 yeah i think iwa struggles with acne and his scars, but he gets lucky that he grows out it by third/fourth year university 😘 uses a basic cleanser marketed towards acne 🤢🤢 and some moisturizer🧴he doesn’t trust oikawa with skincare recommendations because one of the product he gave him had glycolic acid in it and iwa’s skin said 👹

he’s reluctant but lets you help him with his skin and it makes a notable improvement throughout your relationship 👍✨gets heart palpitations when you grab his face and kiss him all over 💘💘 and genuinely thinks you’re one of the best thing to have happened to him when you coo “so handsome hajime 💕” yeah i just think he’s a sucker for you saying his first name lmao

matsukawa he has pretty decent skin, maybe a bit oily and will get spots here and there but overall puberty said nah this one’s cool 😎👍 so he comes in with very basic knowledge about skincare. though bless his heart, he tries out a bunch of stuff with you and is always open to doing masks and trying out new products with you 🥺💖

his skin is pretty resilient so watch him go 😨🤭 when you breakout and he doesn’t jgjebnfkwzl he kisses ur acne scars and spots tho so dw he madly in love ok? 😘🥰❤️ once he starts seeing the changes, he keeps up with the routine you made together for him but he likes to beg for you to do it for him “aw, c’mon babe don’t u want your hands all over this? 😩🤚💕💓💦” i hate him

hanamaki he has a mini routine and knows the general steps from his older sister and because i firmly believe he has dry, sensitive skin. he avoids fragrances, alcohols and all the sulphates and parabens but weirdly his skin is okay with silicones. anyways, he’s the one that introduces you to these amazing korean face masks and now you’re both hooked, spending weekends and days off at his house walking around with ur masks on all 💓👽👽💓

a little bit harder to work with in terms of exploration with your products but he finds his cheeks pinking 💖 and heart beating a little harder 🥰 when you go out of your way to find products that fit his criteria and gets rlly sappy when you start using them too 😭💓💕 he buys the bigger bottles for himself and small bottles for u because he’s whipped (and funny) that way 😐💖

kita looks like he and his grandma would some diy face masks together 🥰❤️ he’s got a basic cleanser and moisturizer but doesn’t do much else. spends a lot of time learning about the products and right steps so he can be a useful partner when you go shopping together 🥺💘💞

atsumu yeah he gets his beautiful skin from his mom and literally everything else because his mom is 🌸✨in both personality and looks. exfoliates three to four times a week and still looks amazing so you really have to wonder what his skin is doing and what yours isn’t 😔

genuinely appreciates you so much when you take the time to teach him about everything and even asks if you could give him some notes so that he can refer to them when you’re not by his side 🥺💗💕💖 joins you in your product endeavours and gives you succinct but helpful feedback on what he likes and doesn’t like 😤 likes to hold you while u do masks together 🌼 and rests his head on urs 😭🌸💕

tendou uses whatever he’s got at home and what his mom gets him 🤷‍♀️ spots here and there but otherwise pretty clear skin. he’s open to trying anything and everything with you because he’s just really happy to spend time with you 🥰💞💞

sakusa i think rosacea but also wealthy parents who had access to numerous dermatologists who nipped it in the bud as soon as they saw it 🤑 anyways he’s got near perfect skin lol goes through periods of dryness and keeps a strict regimen of products 👌🌟 swears by aloe vera and keeps some with him at all times 💗

though i do think you gently push him to introduce serums and essences into his routine (which is basic, but covers all his bases). you let him experiment and he finds one from cosrx that he considers a holy grail 😳 he likes doing ur skincare routine for you and you sit on the toilet seat and grin up at him 🥰 he blushes but doesn’t look away and might or might not admit he loves to be in such close contact with you 💘💘

hoshiumi kinda brutal with the way he goes about it; it looks like he’s beating the product in 💀👊👊 uses bar soap on both his face and body and wonders why his skin is dry and tight after showers “what? doesn’t that mean you didn’t clean all the gross oil off?” 😶😐😑 u gotta start from scratch with this guy 🤐

he pays attention to you but also doesn’t and finds it a bit of a hassle to go through five different products so he settles for a really basic routine 🥱 has one really fancy bottle of serum he takes with him to games and such and goes “my girlfriend gave it to me what don’t you have something like this 🤔” before putting it on if anyone asks 💀🤚💗 a full on chad 💪
