Let Me Take Care of You: Simon Riley
Call Of Duty Masterlist
word count: 800
description: Simon takes cares of you when your period shows up <3
A/N: I found this artwork on Pinterest and the original creator is @shkretart
Tumblr media
Simon wake up with a groan as he could hear you throwing up in the bathroom, making you get up and go check up on you. He cracked the bathroom door and saw you leaning over the toilet emptying your stomach, as he reached for your hair holding it back.
"You okay love?" He asked rubbing your back with a frown.
"Pretty sure I'm about to start my period or I got food poisoning." You said as he handed you some mouthwash.
"Could be either. Why don't we get you back in bed and I'll get you some tea or ginger ale to settle your stomach?" He said.
You nodded your head allowing him to help you up and back into bed before he went to go make you something to help settle your stomach. A few minutes later he returned with some tea and a can of ginger ale, you watched as he set the ginger ale on the nightstand before handing you the tea.
"Thank you Si." You said to him as you took a sip.
 "Of course love, I hope it will help settle your stomach. Why didn't you wake me?" He asked you.
"I literally felt myself about to get sick, so I literally only had time to run to the bathroom before I puked everywhere, and hardly had the chance to call for you in between me throwing up." You said.
"I just worry about you love, with me being gone as much as I am, I don't get to take care you that much. So when I am here I want to do it as much as I can." He said making you smile.
"I appreciate that Si, but you take care of me in more ways than one." You said setting the cup on the nightstand.
You moved closer to him before laying down feeling him run a hand through your hair as you felt sleep starting to overcome you. When you woke up a few hours later, you were in so much pain making you groan as looked around for your boyfriend.
"Si?" You asked.
"In here love, Im just drawing you a bath." He said as laid their confused.
"A bath for me?" You asked confused as he walked over to you.
"Yeah for you. Your bleeding so I was gonna let you soak in the bath while I changed the sheets and warmed your clothes up for you." He said running a hand through your hair.
"Your the best Simon." You said pressing a kiss to his hand before a cramp hit you make you wince.
"Let's get you in the bath, and I'll get you something for your cramps." He said pressing a kiss to your forehead.
He set you down and helped you strip before helping you into the tub, watching as you slowly relaxed before going to change the sheets. He was putting the sheets on the bed when he heard some of the bottles of shampoo fall making him worried.
"Love?" He asked walking over to the bathroom.
"I'm fine, just another cramp." You said through tears as he opened the medicine cabinet.
"Here you go, do want some water?" He asked as you shook your head no.
"I hate seeing you like this...I wish I could your pain away." He said sitting next to you.
"It's alright Si, these painkillers should kick in soon, the first day is always the roughest." You said lacing your hand with his.
After a few more minutes of soaking in the tub, you finally felt ready to get out of the tub. Simon helped you out and let you get changed while he finished get the bed set up for you guys to relax in. You walked out of the room just in time to see him sitting in the bed, with some snacks making you smile as you climbed in next to him.
"You feeling better love?" He asked you.
"A little bit, thank you." You said to him.
You felt him place his hand on your stomach making you happy that he always ran hot compare to you who was always cold. You felt him start rubbing your stomach making you closer your eyes as felt your cramps lessen.
"Have I told you how much I love you?" You asked him.
"A lot but it doesn't hurt to hear it." He said smiling at you.
"I love you so much Si, thank you for taking care of me today." You said as pressing a kiss to his lips.
"I love you y.n, I'll always take care of you." He said pressing another kiss to your lips.

You broke me first
part 27
Tumblr media
cill: bad news.
zoe: uhoh. what?
Zoe hated text messages like this. It’s bad enough he was leaving soon, how much worse can it get?
cill: it was more than just a wardrobe fitting.
Zoe: ???
cill:
Tumblr media
Zoe laughed at the picture, staring at the signature pesky haircut he’s been subjected to all this time during this series. He hated it, he hated the upkeep, and he hated growing it out. Zoe knew he was relishing in the last couple of days of his normal hair before the inevitable happened.
Zoe: wow they really went short on the sides! Better wear a hat you’re gonna catch cold over there.
Cill: i’ll be living in hoodies with the hood up for the foreseeable future.
cill: how you feeling, bunny?
Zoe had taken a sick day from work today. She didn’t feel good, had the chills, and had zero appetite. She was camped out on the couch with a cozy blanket, a cup of tea and the remote while being under the care of her trusty live-in nurse - Scout, of course.
Zoe: a bit better. definitely a lot better than this morning. Scout has been taking care of me. Might actually take him out in a bit and get fresh air.
cill: don’t go outside if you’re sick. i’ll do it when i get home. did you eat anything?
Zoe’s heart still fluttered when he said home. THEIR home, where they live together, even if it’s just the time being.
zoe: i had some ramen noodles for lunch. maybe ill take a bath. i want to change the sheets too just in case whatever i have is contagious, dont need you getting sick.
cill: i’ll take care of the sheets and Scout. you just rest and take a bath. when i get home we’ll talk about dinner.
Zoe: can i suggest a pizza?
cill: not a chance.
zoe: worth a shot.
Zoe smiled and put her phone down on the couch. She looked at scout who was laying the couch by her feet sound asleep. She sighed and was hoping he’d want to go out.
“Scout… hey, wanna go out, boy?” Zoe whispered, nudging the sleeping dog with her foot.
Scout yawned, looked at her, and rolled over and went back to sleep, facing away from her.
“sheesh, okay then,” Zoe mumbled. she peeled back the blanket she was under and stood up to stretch. She was still in her pajamas, which was a baggy band t-shirt that came down to just above her knees. She hadn’t showered yet, was sure she smelled gross and she definitely felt gross. She made her way to the linen closet and pulled out a fresh towel and made her way to the bathroom.
She hasn’t been able to take a bath since she took a bath at Cillian’s in his ginormous, pristine, white bathtub. Her bathroom seemed small and dirty, and didn’t seem as relaxing as Cillian’s bathroom felt. But, she knew the warm water would make her feel better, so she decided to make the best of it, as she turned on the hot water faucet. She decided to grab a bath bomb and a lavender candle to make it more cozier.
She stripped off her T-shirt and panties and lowered herself into the warm water after dropping the bath bomb in. She had the candle lit on the corner of the edge of the tub and she was already starting to smell the lavender fill the room. She cursed herself for forgetting a second towel to fold and use as a pillow for her head, so her dirty T-shirt would have to suffice.
She relaxed and lowered herself even lower into the water, exhaling and closing her eyes. Her tub made Cillian’s look like an olympic sized swimming pool, and she had to bend her knees out of the water.
“If i close my eyes and pretend im anywhere else, its not so bad,” Zoe thought, feeling the water gently slosh around her legs. She heard the jingle of metal on metal, and she opened one eye to see where it was coming from. She was greeted by two big brown eyes staring back at her from the bathroom door.
“don’t tell me NOW you wanna go out,” Zoe said to Scout. Instead, he nudged the door open farther and made his way into the bathroom, peeking into the tub. Zoe pat his head, thinking he wanted some attention. Once he realized she was wet, he cowered away from her hand. He instead circled on the rug outside the tub and lay down, seemingly wanting to nap close to her.
“awww,” Zoe said softly, closing her eyes again. “good boy.”
-
“hey.. baby.. hey.. HEY,”
Zoe jolted awake, water sloshing over the edge of the tub. She opened her eyes to Cillian kneeling next to her on the outside of the tub, hand gently shaking her shoulder.
“I forget you sleep like a rock. I was calling your name when i came home, and i found you in the bathtub like this,” Cillian laughed.
Zoe sat up and awkwardly stretched, her neck now in pain from the awkward angle.
“I didn’t think i’d doze off, I just wanted a quick dip to warm me up”
Cillian looked at his watch. “well, you texted me saying you were taking a bath 2 hours ago, and that water is barely warm anymore,” he said, standing up and grabbing the towel she had placed on the vanity earlier. he opened it in his hands and walked towards the tub. “come on, up.”
Zoe stood up and started shivering almost immediately. Cillian was quick to wrap the towel over her, rubbing her arms to warm her up. He then opened his arms and took her into them, holding her against his body.
“Can’t have you drowning on me, I’d miss you too much,” he said into her hair, giving her a kiss to her temple.
“I miss your bathtub in your old house,” Zoe mumbled. “That was heaven.”
“I’ll build you a bigger bathtub in the new house,” Cillian mumbled back.
“Don’t be ridiculous. It’s just hard to come back to what you’ve always known once you had a taste of luxury, that’s all i’m saying” Zoe replied.
“well when we’re in the new house you won’t have to worry about taking baths in small bathtubs again,” Cillian said giving her a quick kiss. “I stopped at that restaurant you like in the next town over and brought home some soup for you, and something for myself. I’m gonna walk Scout to the corner quick so he can pee, you get changed and meet in the living room, yeah?”
Zoe smiled. “thank you. that sounds good.”
Cillian walked out of the bathroom towards where Scout was and grabbed his leash while Zoe made her way to her bedroom. She grabbed some new underwear, some sweatpants and one of Cillian’s old T-shirts that would be extra baggy and extra comfortable. She put on some socks and made her way to the living room where she saw the takeout containers on the coffee table.
Zoe went to grab some bowls, plates and utensils and placed them on the coffee table. She grabbed bottle of water for herself and Cillian and made herself cozy on the couch.
While she was trying to find something to watch, Cillian came home with Scout. Scout ran to his basket of toys and pulled out a plush giraffe and began shaking it.
“Dog has so much energy, i swear we RAN home,” Cillian said, kicking off his shoes. He made himself comfortable next to Zoe and started unwrapping the containers.
“How did everything else go today?” Zoe asked, ignoring his shaved head. She already knew how that went.
“ummm…” Cillian started, hesitant to continue. If he was trying to hide something from Zoe, she picked up on it immediately. Something was up.
“what?”
“Well, for one, your magazine called. They said I have to do the interview all over again, with someone else,” Cillian said.
“that sucks, did they tell you who?”
“Some girl named Cindy? Cynthia?”
Zoe groaned. “great. good luck with that one. Where i ended up in bed with you by accident, she’ll try and sleep with you for real,” Zoe said.
“I think it’s over Zoom so you have nothing to worry about,” Cillian laughed.
Cillian cut up some chicken and took a bite. After swallowing, he continued.
“there’s uh… there’s more”
Zoe sat in silence, waiting for him to continue.
“My manager, Mary, is going out on maternity leave, and we’ve been having a hard time trying to find someone in the interim, but her and Hannah went to the same college or sorority or whatever, and she volunteered to do it while Mary is out. So Hannah is gonna be glued to my hip for the next couple of months. And apparently … I’m leaving for London on Monday.” Cillian said the last part very fast and very softly.
Zoe could hear her heartbeat in her ears.
be cool, be cool, be cool.
“oh wow… monday? that’s … in 3 days.” Zoe said.
Cillian put his fork down and grabbed her hand.
“I know, love, but it’s not permanent you know that. and we’ll talk every day. multiple times a day. I’m coming back.”
“i know.” Zoe said, forcing a smile. “I’ll coordinate stuff for the house for you while you’re gone, with all the furniture deliveries and stuff.”
“I appreciate it. thanks love. I already made you a key” he said, digging into his pocket.
“Assumed i’d help you move while you’re off being Tommy Shelby?? how’d you know i’d say yes to helping?!” Zoe joked.
Cillian smiled. “I was making you a key, regardless.” he leaned in and gave her a kiss, placing the key in her hand.
“So you and Hannah are gonna be quite the team…” Zoe continued.
“Yeah,” Cillian replied, “I had no idea she had managerial experience. But she started in the industry as a manager and pivoted into PR, so..” he continued, shrugging his shoulders.
“Cillian and Hannah, the dynamic duo,” Zoe said, taking a spoonful of soup.
“Yea,” Cillian chuckled, grabbing another mouthful of food.
“I mean, hey, what could go wrong?”

Tumblr media
“Hey, you free to get lunch later?” You’d bumped into your friend who worked in the company’s legal department, Seungmin, on a Thursday morning while you were in the pantry preparing coffee and tidbits for your boss.
You nodded, “uh-huh,” mixing the coffee absently, “what are you doing here?”
Seungmin shrugged, leaning against the counter as he munched on a cookie, “felt like taking a walk. Things have been pretty busy in the legal department lately.”
“Why?”
Seungmin gave you a cheeky smile, shrugging, “can’t say, but you’ll find out soon enough.”
You rolled your eyes, gritting your teeth with feigned menace towards him (his smile stayed unwavering, even sticking his tongue out at you to mock you).
“Who’s that for?” Seungmin gestured to the coffee mugs on the tray.
“Mr Bang’s supposed to be meeting his nephew or something, he made it seem really important but all he told me was that it’s for his nephew,” you shrugged, glancing down at your two cups of coffee, realisation hitting you.
“Shit, that just reminded me. He said his nephew doesn’t drink coffee. Do you want this?” You shot Seungmin a pleading look, holding up your now unneeded cup of coffee.
Seungmin scoffed, taking the mug from you wordlessly, “how exciting your job is, huh,” he deadpanned, sipping the coffee, “wanna reconsider joining the legal department now?”
You rolled your eyes.
“I’m perfectly satisfied with my job now, thank you very much.”
You’d prepared a pot of tea, careful not to spill the water onto the counter as you did so, transferring the pot onto your tray, “and plus, considering the amount of money I get paid for the amount of work I do, I’m more than happy.”
Seungmin scoffed, “should’ve known it was because of the money.”
“Alright, I’ve gotta go, see you later,” you said, picking up your tray as Seungmin waved his hand with cookie crumbs on his fingers, the clicking of your heels growing softer as you walked further away.
Reaching the door of your boss’ office, you’d been able to faintly make out 2 silhouettes through the window from where you stood, composing yourself to make a good impression as you knocked on the door. Hearing your boss grunt, you’d pushed the door open with your shoulder, your gaze focused on the coffee table as you greeted your boss.
Setting the pot of tea on the table, you’d cast a glance at the recipient, your eyes widening when you’d spotted the boy with dyed hair sitting on the plush leather sofa facing your boss, dressed in a clean white button-down and tie, an equally well-ironed pair of pants, his posture relaxed with his legs spread casually.
His gaze was on you, as if analysing your movements, making you direct your gaze back to your task at hand, setting the saucer with the cup of coffee onto the coffee table, placing the small biscuits your boss liked in the middle of the two.
Holding the tray close to your chest, you cast a glance at your boss, about to bow in greeting and head back out when his voice had stopped you.
“Y/N, please, stay here. I’d like to discuss something with you and my nephew.”
Your eyebrows raised, lips pressed tightly together as you nodded, “oh…cool, alright.”
“Please, take a seat,” Mr Bang gestured to the space on the sofa next to his nephew, making you seat yourself awkwardly on the other side of the sofa, your body pressing against the armrest as if trying to create as much distance as you could between him and you.
“So, Chan, this is my secretary, Y/N,” Mr Bang gestured to you, “Y/N, this is my nephew, uh… Chris,” he spoke, the name sounding fairly familiar to you. Chris Bang? You sounded the name over in your head, not being able to connect the dots as to why it was so familiar at this point of time.
“So, sweetheart, because I’ve been planning on resigning for a while now, I thought I should let you know that I’m planning on handing my position over to Chris.”
Maybe this was what Seungmin was so busy with.
You nodded slowly, trying to understand the implications this decision meant for you, “will my contract be terminated, then?”
Chris glanced at you, as if searching your expression. He found you fairly younger than he’d expected, since his uncle had mentioned earlier that you’d already been working for him for quite some time, going onto 2 years already.
Of course, he didn’t want to underestimate you, but knowing the directors’ reputations regarding secretaries, he wasn’t sure if he could put a label on your abilities without seeing them for himself, first. And to him, he wasn’t quite understanding of why his uncle was so insistent that he needed a secretary, his past experiences with secretaries all being quite unimpressive.
“That… is unfortunately up to Chris, but ideally your contract will resume as per normal.”
You glanced back at the boy, who looked at you with an unreadable expression, something about his stare successfully unnerving you, the way he looked at you almost with a certain level of contempt.
“We’ll be having a company dinner tonight to welcome Chris to the team, it would do the both of you well to get acquainted with each other before the board meeting for ceo elections.”
You nodded slowly, still clutching the tray close to your chest as you wondered how old he was, the whole ordeal seeming as though it were something out of a movie: a young apathetic heir getting authority over a large corporation at such a young age. Was he even qualified for this position? The rest of the directors were nowhere near his age, well, appearance wise.
As if having read your mind, your boss spoke, “I’m sure you two will get along just fine, considering you two are so close in age.”
Your eyes narrowed, something in you not feeling comfortable with this arrangement. Dismissing the thought quickly, you shrugged, figuring it would be a change of scenery from being around the old directors all the time.
You watched as Chris shrugged.
“We’ll see.”
===
“Who?” Seungmin dabbed at his lips with his towel, picking up his glass of water to take a sip, making you frown, still trying to do your research on Chris Bang as far as your browser app would take you.
“Chris Bang. He’s gonna take over the company from President Bang.”
Your words seemed to have elicited a giggle from Seungmin, “doesn’t that make them both ‘President Bang’?”
Seungmin ignored your eye roll, continuing, “this was what I was referring to just now, you know. I thought you would’ve known who he was by now,” he told you, making you set your phone down on the table, open on his LinkedIn page that frankly wasn’t giving you much other than stating how very qualified he was for the job.
“You know, Bang Chan? Ring a bell? That guy that’s been switching departments for God-knows-how-long since last year. The one that got all of us donuts one time,” Seungmin gave you a ‘duh’ look, considerably unamused.
“Oh,” only then were you realising just who that was. You knew exactly who he was. You’d heard many rumours from the other secretaries on how he was impossibly good at anything he’d set his mind to, his work ethic and standard incomparable to anyone else in the company they’d ever seen.
Which was why all that switching departments start to make sense to you, since it could’ve been his way of making sure he learnt the ins-and-outs of every department by the time he took over. If that wasn’t just more evidence that he was definitely a crazy workaholic.
At the time, you’d made a passing comment on how you hoped you would never have to be his subordinate, after having heard stories on how intimidating he was whenever it came to work (especially work that was improperly done). Little did you know that your comment would come back to bite you in the ass so soon.
“Yeah, ‘oh,” Seungmin mimicked you, taking another bite out of his burger, “why d’you seem so…,” Seungmin made a pained groaning sound as he gestured to you for lack of a better word, “about it, anyway? Shouldn’t you be happy? He’s super nice!”
You scrunched your nose up, locking your phone in your dismay, not wanting to see his face on his stupid profile mocking you with all his stupid qualifications anyway.
“I don’t know, just kind of feels a little sudden. And I hate the feeling of not knowing if I’m gonna be fired since it’s not up to Mr Bang anymore.”
“Which one?” Seungmin joked, making you scoff, finding it just a little funny. Only a little.
Seungmin continued, “you’re just mad because him taking over means you actually have to do work.”
You shot him a glare, your silence being an acknowledgement that he wasn’t entirely wrong.
“And because I love Mr Bang! He was such a nice old man that checked in on me and gave me life advice. I’m not gonna get any life advice from someone that’s basically my age.”
Seungmin huffed in amusement, bringing his hand up to cup his mouth as if to divulge a secret, dropping his voice to a strained whisper, “transfer to the legal department.”
You sighed, “no, I still love my pay.”
“Then stop sulking! Chris is the nicest guy I’ve met, you’ll be fine. Just show up to the company dinner tonight and fluff him up a bit,” Seungmin shrugged, “it’ll be smooth sailing from then on.”
===
You figured you should’ve tried to do a lot better to fluff Chris up during the company dinner, instead of just going over to grill the meat for the directors, under the instruction of President Bang.
The action itself didn’t sit right with Chris, who didn’t understand why it was so imperative to the directors that you be the one to grill the meat until he realised just why they were keeping you there.
His own uncle was oblivious of course, simply obliging at any chance he got to show off how capable you were (even if it was just grilling meat), however Chris was quick to notice the way they stared at you as you reached between them to grill the meat, your face feeling hot with the steam from the grill.
“Y/N is very hardworking, graduated at the top of her class in college,” Mr Bang mentioned pointedly, making Chris’ eyebrows raise in surprise.
“Really? What did you study?” He spoke, knowing very well you were listening, the other directors not paying any attention to learning your background as they prompted you to pour them a drink. You didn’t miss the way his words were accented, remembering hearing from Seungmin that he’d spent a large chunk of his life in Australia.
Tipping the bottle, you’d answered (albeit a little preoccupied).
“Law,” you sat back on your heels, “minored in journalism.”
Chris frowned, not being able to understand why you would’ve chosen to work here as his uncle’s secretary of all things if you had pretty good prospects on your own.
“How’d you end up working for my uncle, then?” He voiced, your attention diverted when you’d been prompted by a director to take a shot of your own, clinking your glass obnoxiously and leaving you with no choice, an embarrassed flush on your face.
Taking the shot, you winced at the burn of the drink, glancing back at Chris, who was still looking at you curiously, wondering how you’d felt under the attention of the directors.
“Did it as a temp job at first,” you told him, “but I guess I realised halfway that I don’t mind it so much, and it paid me pretty well.”
Chris hummed, you ‘don’t mind’ this?
One of the directors let out a grunt of distaste, “you shouldn’t worry about that, doll. The job of a secretary is to look pretty, the pride of the company is in its secretaries,” he said, clearly having already had one-too-many drinks, his words leaving an awful aftertaste on your tongue, his hand going over to grasp your shoulder, his hand going down to your arm and squeezing.
“I always told her she’d do well as a housewife. That way she wouldn’t have to work and just mooch off her husband.”
You mustered a smile, setting the bottle of drink down and bowing to them, Chris having lost his appetite at the way you’d just let their comments slide.
“Maybe she prefers mooching off of the directors, instead,” Chris murmured, his sharp tongue getting the better of him, catching your attention as you were walking past him, making you stop in your tracks.
Chris’ uncle tut his tongue, nudging the boy harshly, making him raise his hands in surrender.
“What? Just speaking off of observation.”
You turned around, a surge of confidence arising in you (from where? You weren’t sure, maybe it was the fact that in your eyes he was still what was standing in between you and your possible severance pay), “excuse me?”
“I’m sorry, was there any untruth in what I said?” Chris turned, his gaze almost challenging you to speak out against the directors, not knowing that it was only serving to spur you on to speak out against him instead.
 You scoffed, Chris standing up and awaiting your answer, a voice in you screaming at you not to be intimidated by him, especially with the way his head tilted down ever so slightly, his eyebrows raising expectantly.
“Didn’t know they would just let any rude petty kid run any company these days,” you narrowed your eyes at him, folding your arms and straightening your posture.
Seungmin, who was watching from his table with the legal team, grimaced, deeming Chris’ expression to be anything but friendly at the moment.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s just a little unbelievable to me that I’m supposed to be answering to someone who just got the company handed to him,” your words were coming out faster than you could help it. I mean, you were probably going to get fired anyway, right? Might as well go down with a fight.
“You don’t know anything about me,” Chris muttered, his voice firm, annoyance laced in his tone. Your words seemed to have triggered a spark in him, annoyed that you were doubting his abilities, blatantly disrespecting him even after knowing he could be your superior.
Mr Bang had tapped Chris’ calf harshly, “enough, don’t keep y/n from eating.”
Ignoring his words, Chris had stepped forward, staring you down as the tension had only thickened between the both of you.
“But then, what would you know, right? What was that again? Right. What are you here for other than to look pretty, hmm?” He tilted his head at you, flashing you a smile that was practically dripping with sarcasm.
You practically seethed with anger, your fists clenching as you unfolded your arms, your finger coming up to point at him, “you know what? I’d rather eat beansprouts for the rest of my life than work for you.” You scoffed.
Chris' amused lilt to his smile was only serving to annoy you even more, making you storm over to your table with the other secretaries, all of them casting you looks of concern or shock that you would have confronted him like that. Picking up your jacket, you’d scoffed, casting him one last look before you left, not expecting to see him again afterwards.
Well, that was the part you were very very wrong about.
That night, you’d called your boyfriend over to submit him to a seemingly never-ending rant about Chris, getting a text from Seungmin halfway.
“I mean, isn’t it good, then? That you can find another job?” Your boyfriend tried to reason, pressing a kiss to your neck as you straddled him where he was sitting leaning against your headboard.
“That’s not the point,” you insisted, pausing to read the text that Seungmin had sent, oblivious to his urgent kisses trailing up to your jaw.
seungmin (personal)  2:12am -consider yourself lucky. Spoke to Chan just now, make sure you show up to work tomorrow.-
“The point is that, he’s arrogant. What? Telling me that I’m only here to look pretty?—“
“In his defence, you insulted him first.”
You glared at your boyfriend, “Yeah, fine. But he provoked me first. And I don’t know, something about him just pisses me off,” you tried to reason, your boyfriend’s kisses beginning to distract you from your anger.
“You know what, maybe you should just give him a shot. Maybe he’s not as bad as he seems?”
And so you did as Seungmin had instructed, doing what you would’ve always done, grabbing your boss’ morning coffee before going to the office, ‘leisurely’ making your way upstairs as you tried to avoid any possible suit-clad blond-haired man.
Upon reaching your desk, you’d set your things under your desk, opening your scheduler and doing a quick run through of Mr Bang’s schedule for the day, grabbing the coffee and knocking on the glass doors before entering.
“Y/N! Just the person I wanted to see.” You nodded, walking over to place his coffee onto his table.
“You have the board meeting in half an hour, sir,” you informed him.
“Right, thank you. Would you be a dear and be there to serve the refreshments?”
You nodded, “yeah, sure.”
“If all goes as planned, Chan- I mean, Chris, will be taking over from next week onwards. So this week will be the last week i’m here.”
You frowned, “it’s a shame you’re retiring, you know,” your disappointment was evident in your tone.
Mr Bang simply waved you off, “it’s about time, I’m sure little Chris will do a good job.”
You’d kept your mouth shut, nodding as he stood up with his coffee cup in hand, looking at you with a smile, “shall we head down a little earlier, then?”
You nodded, opening the door for him to exit and following him silently to the venue of the board meeting. You were surprised, to say the least, when you’d reached only to find Chris there already, currently in an animated conversation with one of the directors, smiling like you’d never seen before, dimples showing on his cheeks.
Excusing yourself quickly, you’d gone to the pantry to prepare the drinks, your time here having made you familiar with the respective directors drink preferences. Carrying your tray carefully, you’d pushed the door open with your hip, seeing all the directors seated already, all seeming fairly comfortable around Chris, only serving to make the feeling of dread build in the pit of your stomach.
Making your way around the table, you’d distributed the drinks to the directors personally, refusing to make eye contact with Chris as you gave him his stupid cup of tea.
Once the meeting had started, you’d dismissed yourself outside the room, a part of you trying to listen in on the board meeting but not being able to hear much through the thick panelled glass. You were surprised when barely half an hour had passed and you’d heard applause in the room, peeping through the window to see Mr Bang give you a signal that you could come in.
Pushing the door open carefully, you saw the directors practically lining up to congratulate Chris, leaving promptly after looking all-too satisfied with the outcome of the meeting.
Mr Bang was speaking to Chris as the rest of the directors were leaving, “well, I guess this means my work here is as good as done. I’m sure your parents will be thrilled to hear the news,” he pat Chris on the back.
You were about to head out with Mr Bang, eager to avoid Chris when you’d heard him speak, “Y/N, I’d like to speak with you for a moment. Is that alright?” He cast a look at his uncle, who waved him off.
“Of course, she’s not my secretary anymore, remember?” You cast Mr Bang a look of distress, seeing him chuckle before giving you a thumbs up, exiting the room happily.
You winced, turning around so you were facing Chris, seeing him walk over to where you were, holding out a thick bound stack of papers for you to take.
“What’s this?”
"A contract. You can pass it to me by the end of the day once you've made your decision. I trust that you're familiar with reading contracts?" he asked as you stared at the papers, flipping and scanning through the print, realising that his terms were considerably more demanding than his uncle.
"You'll be able to find an additional attachment where I list what I would expect in a secretary. Feel free to consult me if you're unclear about any of them, though I don't think you would need to."
Your eyes lingered on the section of the contract, stating that you would be on a year of probation, but that the contract could be terminated whenever he felt appropriate.
"Whenever you deem appropriate?" you scoffed, looking up at him in disbelief.
He smiled, "very pretty wording, don't you think?"
"That's all I wanted to say. Remember, I'll expect your response by the end of the day."
You stared blankly as he shrugged his jacket off, draping it on one arm.
"Go ahead, what are you waiting for? You can go for your lunch break now," he urged, before his features pulled into a look of realisation, "oh, forgot. That is, unless you would rather eat...what was that again? Beansprouts?"
Your mouth opened, making as if to retort before you shut your mouth quickly, your eyes widening as he walked over to you, his gaze intense and serious, a contrast to the demeanour he wore while chatting up the director previously.
"I can handle myself, you know," you attempted to defend yourself, watching as Chris had shrugged.
"You have one whole year to prove that to me."
In that one year of working for Chris, you'd learnt a lot of things. Not only about your position as a secretary, but about Chris, ( not to mention, just exactly how spiteful he could be ).
1. Sleep was a luxury.
In your first week as his secretary, Chris had surprised you with the sheer rate of progress he was aiming, and moving at. It was as if all the rumours you'd heard before about his work ethic were a gross understatement of his tenacity.
You'd been having trouble adjusting to his deadlines, especially since he had entrusted more tasks to you. From surprise presentations, to drafting up proposals and reports, not to mention submitting research to him. To you, it felt as if you were doing half the job for him.
In short, you had never missed Mr Bang more than you did then.
Of course, Seungmin being your voice of reason, would shut your rants down, claiming it was ‘about time you do your job’, but of course, you loved to complain. Especially since it was someone you didn't have very fond feelings for that was assigning you the work. You grew increasingly irritated in the time you were adjusting to your sleep schedule, which Chris, and your boyfriend had definitely noticed.
Because of your changes in brain activity levels, you assumed (google could only diagnose so much), whenever sleep came to you, you welcomed it with open arms.  Since waking up had become even more of a chore to run over to the coffee shop and squeeze yourself between the crowd of working adults and panda-eyed college students to get his very specific breakfast order.
You'd gone home from a birthday party of your boyfriend and your mutual friend, things having gotten a little...out of hand at your boyfriend's apartment since it'd been so long since you'd been able to spend time together, not with you always falling asleep during video calls or refusing them altogether for the sake of getting your work done. You'd missed him, and something about being apart made you miss his touch.
Jolting awake, (as if your body had been able to tell that your sleep was too smooth), you'd instantly sensed that something was wrong when you saw the light streaming in from behind the curtains, knowing for a fact that you usually woke up when it was still a little dark out.
Turning around, you'd fumbled for your phone on the bedside table, letting out a loud gasp when you saw the time. You were already a whole half-hour late.
"Shit!"
Your boyfriend startled, letting out a groan, his arm still lazily draped over your stomach.
"Did my alarm ring?" you asked, shoving his hand off of you and groaning, slipping out of bed quickly as you put on your clothes from the day before, not having any more time to go back to your apartment and get a fresh change of clothes.
"I don't know, I didn't hear anything," you heard your boyfriend mumble from where he lay.
Cursing, you'd ran over to his bathroom, washing your face quickly, a gasp leaving your mouth as you inspected the angry marks on your neck through the mirror.
"I hate you so much," you tugged up the collar of your turtleneck, successfully hiding the marks when you’d let your hair down.
Grabbing your things, you'd sprinted downstairs, hailing the first cab you could see and heading to your office.
Was he going to fire me? You were still on probation, so there was no reason he couldn't, right?
You'd fixed your hair anxiously as you jogged into the lobby, your shoes clacking noisily against the floor as you ran into the lift, even debating on whether taking the stairs would have been a better idea as the lift went up at an achingly slow pace.
Finally reaching your floor, you’d made your way to the meeting room, tossing your bags outside the door and entering with your laptop, notebook and pen, keeping your head down and avoiding Chris’ gaze as he was presenting to the room.
Taking your seat at the only empty seat left, (unfortunately, closer to the front of the room), you’d let out a small sigh. Expecting to hear Chris comment on your tardiness or whatnot, you opened your laptop, picking up on the minutes where you could.
Keeping your head down, you’d felt your colleague from the marketing team lean over to you as Chris had given everyone some time to analyse what he was showing on the screen, his lack of a comment making you even more anxious.
“Your hair’s a mess,” she whispered, making you wince, your hand going up to comb your hair into a ponytail in your attempt to look neater, hearing your colleague gasp.
“Dude! Put your hair back down, your neck,” she whispered, your eyes immediately darting to Chris’ direction, seeing that he was in fact staring at your jaw and neck as well, turning away quickly, the reddening of his ears giving him away.
Your hands let go of your hair as though you were burned, hearing your colleague snicker beside you, “I see someone had fun last night. Was that why you were late, too?”
You shushed her as Chris cleared his throat, embarrassment flooding your senses as you continued to take minutes, hoping that he wouldn’t be as mad at you if you showed that you were trying your best. Fat chance, but hey, you could dream.
Chris had started to assign things that he’d wanted the different departments to focus on for the project at hand, flashing a slide of deadlines that you watched people scramble to confirm with their existing information. You were secretly hoping someone would hold him back with a question so that he was too busy to confront you.
Unfortunately for you, that wasn’t the case today. The meeting ended promptly, Chris leaving you in relative silence as you packed up your things, your colleagues giving you a look of sympathy as you followed him silently out of the room back to your desk.
“In my office, please,” he murmured.
You fiddled with your fingers, already anticipating for him to fire you.
“Can you explain to me what happened this morning?”
Your eyes widened, not daring to meet his gaze as it flickered between anything in the room other than him, “I uh..I didn’t um…I didn’t hear my alarm ring and nobody woke me up so I overslept.”
Chris’ stare was unwavering, leaning against his desk and folding his arms, “so is it not your responsibility to make sure you show up to work on time?”
“No, yeah of course it is—“
“Then I would like to see you be accountable for your mistakes,” he continued, “I’m not saying you can’t make mistakes, everybody makes mistakes. But if your mistake is what puts an entire room of people at an inconvenience, I would prefer if you were a little more apologetic about it.”
You’d let a short period of silence fall between the both of you, “I’m sorry,” you mumbled, your gaze fixed firmly on his shoelace, “am I fired?”
Chris let out a small sigh, shaking his head. “No, but, you know, if you ever let anything like this happen again, I won’t hesitate to fire you,” his voice was stern, annoyed almost.
“And Y/N, if this,” you looked up at him watching him gesture to his neck with his hand before gesturing back to you, making you cower, tugging your collar further up your neck, “is what’s the issue here. I’d suggest you start prioritising.”
“Sorry. It won’t happen again, I swear,” you rushed to speak, bowing quickly before exiting the room as fast as you could, wanting to tear your hair out in both annoyance and embarrassment.
You’d jumped when you heard the sound of your desk speaker, Chris’ voice sounding through the phone, “Is there a problem, Y/N?”
Your eyes widened, rushing over to your desk phone, shaking your head as you pressed the button to reply, “no, no! Not at all. There was just a… a bug here.”
Chris huffed, bringing his hand up to hide his amusement, watching you scramble to regain your composure.
2. Chris was a workaholic
It was seeing (and experiencing) all the late nights in the office and the erratic pattern of his emails on weekends that drew you to this conclusion. His routine of sleeping late and then proceeding to get up at ungodly hours to either get work done or give up on the idea of a smooth sleep, since you were aware that he tended to have trouble sleeping. Not to mention the way it seemed to you as if the top priority in his life was his work, wanting to do his best to get the company to where he wanted it to be.
After a few months of working for him, it was very clear to you that your job entailed not only taking care of his work, but taking care of him.
You were going over to the legal team's office to collect the binders Chan had left to them, seemingly needing one of them now, thankful to have spotted Seungmin along the way as he was leaving his desk.
Shooting you a look of sympathy, he'd peeked his head out to glance at your area, noticing everyone else in your team had gone home already.
"Working late again?"
You were sure you looked horrible, with bags under your eyes and your complexion looking dull from lack of sleep, but well, you had to earn a living, right?
You shot him a pointed look, "you know the rules, can't go home until the boss goes home," you heaved a pained sigh.
"You know, I'm starting to wonder if he even has a social life," you thought out loud, earning an amused grunt from Seungmin.
"I could say the same about you." You ignored his comment.
"What d'you need?" he asked, though you were already making your way to his superior's desk, grabbing the file and leaving a post-it to say it was with Chris.
"Nothing, just this." You let out a small grunt at the weight of the binder, your wrists aching from all the filing you'd done that morning and afternoon (you never did notice until now how inefficient Chris' uncle's document organization system was).
"All the best," he gave you a thumbs up, earning a pitiful pout from you before you'd headed back to Chris' office.
Knocking on his door, you'd heard him murmur for you to come in, pushing the heavy doors open with your shoulder as you shoved your way through the doors,  placing the binder onto the coffee table where he'd had his documents and laptop laid out haphazardly.
Chan's hair was a mess, likely from running his hands through it as he worked, his tie discarded and the top few buttons of his shirt undone, looking at you with tired eyes.
He was about to ask you for some water, but you'd seemed to have read his mind, walking over to the table near his desk and pouring him a glass of warm water from the flask.
"I'm almost done with the filing, but I'll be outside so you can let me know if you need anything."
You'd felt your pocket buzz with a notification, momentarily taking your attention away from Chris.
Chris glanced at the files before looking back at you in thought, stopping you before you could exit the room, "actually, can you help me to write a report on this, I'll need this by tomorrow afternoon."
Knowing Chris' deadlines, that meant he would've needed it by tomorrow morning, which left you no choice other than to start working on it now.
Chris picked up a small file with a post-it note stuck onto the file, handing it to you.
"The points are all there. I would've done it myself but by the looks of it this is gonna take a while more than I expected," he sighed, his hands on his hips as he stared at the pile of papers in front of him in disdain.
Chris never would've admitted that he'd started preparing the post-it notes for you in case he wasn't able to complete his work in time, since he usually opted to write from his head, but he knew you worked better with structure. He'd only realised after starting to do it that it helped him draft the write-ups more concisely, so of course, the reason was always 'for his own convenience', never creating opportunities for you to think he actually tried accommodating to you.
"This current arrangement is very un-environmentally friendly," you mumbled, staring at the papers as well.
"I'll go get this done now," you gave him a nod, exiting his office as you pulled your phone from your pocket, the text from your boyfriend practically glaring at you, asking if you were able to meet that night.
10:47pm - sorry, working late :( gotta work on a report due tomorrow morning -
Biting back your disappointment at having to bail on your boyfriend again, you'd nodded resolutely, pulling up your delivery app to order food for Chris before you started on the report lest he start to get irritable because he was hungry.
And lastly, the point you couldn't quite seem to wrap your head around, was that
3. He was very nice, just...not so much to you.
After the oversleeping incident from before, it was safe to say you'd never let a similar mistake repeat itself. You were constantly making sure you were alert and responsive to anything Chris could possibly throw to you (and he knew this too).
The only downside Chris saw to this, was that it seemed as though your attitude towards the directors hadn't changed. Still swallowing their disgusting comments and serving them with a smile, even if they were looking everywhere but your face. It irked Chris. And it irked him even more that the only one you seemed to serve without a smile, was him.
Unbeknownst to him, you'd shared the same sentiments.
"Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on in their head?" you spoke.
Seungmin snorted, "wait, are you talking about the meme or..." your lack of a response made Seungmin follow your gaze (or glare) to where Chris was seated at the other end of the table, giggling and smiling as he spoke with the other secretaries.
"Ah," Seungmin nodded, understanding now why your spoon hadn't moved an inch from your bowl, your grip around it almost death-like.
"What are you so mad about? He's not doing anything?"
You shot Seungmin a pointed look, your voice lowering to a murmur, "can't you see it? With them he's all rainbows and unicorn shit but with me it's like just smiling would kill him."
You heard the secretaries letting out giggles and impressed sounds at something Chris had just said, the sound itself enough to make you annoyed.
Seungmin's eyebrows furrowed, looking at you in scepticism, "you know the secretaries are only being nice because they're interns, right? I heard from one of them that they're actually really scared of him."
Seungmin brought his chopsticks to his mouth, taking a piece of food from your bowl that he knew you weren't going to eat anyway, "especially after they saw how he spoke to you during the meeting the other day,"
You scoffed, "good to know that I was the warning."
Your phone buzzed, signalling a text from your boyfriend. Strangely enough, it'd been a while since you'd texted him, since you were busy with work and he was busy with school.
Ignoring it initially, too distracted by Chris, it wasn't long before you saw his caller ID show up on the screen, getting Seungmin's attention.
"I think you should answer that," he gestured, making you glance around the table in your hesitance, not knowing if it would be rude to just exit halfway.
Picking up the phone-call, you'd turned your head, lowering your volume to a murmur, "hello?"
"Hey, can we talk? I really need to tell you something."
You winced, "is it urgent? I'm at a team dinner right now."
Your boyfriend sighed, scoffing, "it really is always work with you, huh."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
You glanced at the table, standing up to excuse yourself. Chris's expression read confusion, eavesdropping on a secretary asking what happened, Seungmin replying that it was your boyfriend calling.
You'd made your way outside the restaurant, Chris glancing in your direction and spotting you walk past the restaurant's windows, a part of him shaking off whatever curiosity that lingered in him as he focused on his conversation. After all, you did tell him you could handle yourself, right?
Where you were, you'd moved to a quieter spot outside the restaurant, "okay, I can talk now. What's up?"
You kicked at the ground absently as you awaited his reply.
"Look, are you free to meet tonight? There's something I need to tell you."
"Uh..." you glanced into the restaurant, making eye contact with Chris before looking away, "I've got to work later, though. I need to get some research done for this review that i'm behind on, I don't wanna meet you if i'm just gonna end up on my computer while you're there, you know?"
Your boyfriend nodded, "you know, that's kind of what i wanted to talk to you about."
"Oh," a feeling of dread was building in your stomach, recognising your boyfriend's tone to be the one he used whenever he was talking about something serious.
The first time you heard it was when you witnessed him on a work phone-call, the second being how he spoke to your parents the first time they'd met, but this time, you had a feeling you knew what was coming.
"Let's break up."
You fell silent, not knowing how to respond to his words.
"Is it, um.... is it because of my work?" You asked, a part of you not being able to come to terms with the fact that it could have been your fault, "because you know I can't do anything about that."
Your boyfriend sighed, "I know. I'm just talking about how you've been so emotionally invested in your work you don't even have the energy to maintain this relationship."
You frowned, "what, what do you want me to do, quit my job? Will that be better for you?"
"Look, i've been seeing someone," he began. Your heart sank.
"And i'd be lying if I said that wasn't part of the reason. But... it was only when I started seeing her that I realised... things between us just weren't the same as before."
Your heart felt heavy, a part of you knowing that he was making it a lot easier to be mad at him by confessing what he did, but another part of you couldn't help but prompt him further.
"When did it start?"
"That doesn't matter-"
You sighed, taking your lower lip between your teeth, "it's fine, I just wanna know."
"Fine, it was about a month in from you working for your new boss."
You nodded slowly, still trying to process his words. You weren't quite sure what came over you when you saw Chris exiting the restaurant, turning to face your direction and spotting you in the alley. But it was as if you were so mad at yourself, mad at him, mad at your boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend now), that you'd ended the call, shoving your phone into the pocket of your blazer before heading over to where Chris was.
"You guys aren't going home?" you heard one of the secretaries ask as you and Chris had approached his car, his driver already sitting in the car and waiting.
Chris shook his head with a smile, "nope, we're heading back to the office."
You mustered a smile as you bid them goodbye, you guessed this was probably the best time to bury yourself in your work as a poor coping mechanism after a breakup, as far as movie breakups went.
The car-ride was silent, despite the pinging of your phone, making you switch it to silent mode halfway, earning a curious look from Chris, though he didn't make to ask you about it.
Upon reaching the office, the both of you had gone back into your clockwork routine, as you sat in his office working on your computer and scribbling down on your notebook the important details you wanted him to check. Chris found that your background in law and journalism made it a lot easier whenever it came to reading and condensing information, which had only allowed him to trust you more when it came to getting tasks like that done, saving him precious time he could spend working on other things.
The buzzing of your phone was growing more frequent, though it was as if you were oblivious to it now as you typed away at your computer.
"Right, can you help to postpone tomorrow afternoon's meeting, and help me to make a reservation at the steak place, 2 people."
You hadn't made to move, pulling your phone out but having gotten distracted at the multitude of missed calls and texts just because your boyfriend wanted to 'make sure you were okay'. Please.
"Hello? Can you hear me?" you heard Chris call, snapping you out of your daze as his gaze searched your expression, trying to read your emotions.
"Sorry, can you repeat that? I didn't hear you."
Chris sighed, his annoyance at your phone that had lit up with a call again getting the better of him, "you know I don't ask you to stay later just for you to waste my time, you know."
Your gaze hardened. There it was, the side of Chris that you had the 'privilege' of being at the brunt of, nowhere near the smiley giggly Chris you witnessed at the restaurant just now.
"I said I was sorry. What do you want me to do?"
Chris huffed, his gaze darting to your phone as he spoke, "reservation for 2 people tomorrow afternoon, the steak place my mom likes. Postpone tomorrow afternoon's appointment with Director Lee." He told you slowly, his tone as if speaking to a young child, which only served to piss you off even more.
"Who's calling you?" he asked.
You shook your head in dismissal, "my...uh..." you weren't sure how to respond, watching dumbly as he made his way to where you were, lifting your phone to read the contact before letting out a huff.
"Okay, well you can tell your boyfriend that if you're gonna be this distracted at work, you can kiss your night goodbye."
You inhaled deeply, absolutely upset but knowing there wasn't much you could do about it. You loved your job, even though you hated to admit it. Ever since Chris came in, you were getting a lot more work experience and exposure, especially with how he would make it mandatory for you to attend certain language courses that would help him whenever you accompanied him on networking events or business galas.
And in that moment, you couldn't help but think back to what he'd said the first time he'd scolded you when he'd told you to figure out your priorities. Maybe your boyfriend called you at the right time, maybe you just weren't ready to focus on things other than your career at this point of time.
Turning your phone off, you'd made sure Chris saw that it was off, raising your hands up in surrender, "done. I'll book your stupid reservation now." You stalked out before Chris could chime in with a 'watch your tone'.
===
You'd been working for Chris for what was coming to 2 years now. The company had been reaping the results of their hard work for a while now, and you were thankful that even though you weren't as busy as before, you still managed to keep your job. Other than the fact that Chris’ hair was now back to dark brown, not much else had changed.
Although, one tiny change you were starting to wish for was that Chris would at least try to make things a little more bearable for you.
You were currently at a meeting with the directors where Chris was presenting the overview of the company's performance in the past month. You would have to say you were pretty satisfied with the work you'd both done on that, working a lot more efficiently now compared to when you'd first started out.
Your silent admiration of the presentation was interrupted when one of the directors summoned you over to ask for a cup of coffee.
Doing as you were told ( much to Chris' dismay ), you'd gone and come back in record time with his hot cup of coffee, bending down and making your way to where the director sat, not wanting to prevent any of them from seeing what Chris was presenting.
While he was presenting, it didn't take Chris very long to realise why the director had kept asking you for things, your position from where you were squatting next to him making it all-too-easy for him to ogle at you without you noticing.
For some reason, this seemed to have gotten on Chris' nerves, especially because that director's secretary was simply minding her own business at the back of the room.
Did Chris think what you were wearing that day was nice? He'd say he didn't but of course he did. But unlike the director, he preferred not to be so blatant about it, especially because you were always so rude towards him.
You'd tensed momentarily when the director had grabbed your arm, about to get up when you heard Chris' voice get louder.
"Y/N, I'd appreciate if you would stop distracting the directors and go back to your seat."
(Later on, Seungmin would be struggling to hold back his laughter in the printing room when Chan told him to tell you to button up your blouse a little more.
“Why can’t you just tell her yourself?”
Chan scoffed, “knowing her, she’s just gonna think I was looking at her… chest or something.”
Seungmin narrowed his eyes at Chan teasingly, “well, were you?”
Chan waved him off with a groan, “just tell her, okay? The directors are having a field day with her looking like that.”)
You'd almost scoffed at the way the director had immediately let go of you, and you straightened up quickly, heading back to sit with the other secretaries.
"That was harsh," you heard one of the secretaries murmur to you, making you shrug.
"Whatever, not like I expected more from him anyway."
(You did, you totally did. You'd kill for him to be less grating with his words).
After the meeting, you'd felt a phone ring in your bag, pulling it out to see that Chris' mom was calling, obviously not having been able to reach him. Making your way to where he was, you'd interrupted his packing of his things.
"Your mom is calling you," you'd told him out of habit, holding his phone out for him to take, jumping slightly when you'd heard one of the directors let out a dismayed grunt.
"Is that any way to talk to your boss?"
Your eyes widened, Chris seeming to be enjoying the situation play out before him as you regained your composure, looking back at Chris with a sickly sweet smile on your face. In front of the directors, you couldn't act up like how you usually did when it was just the both of you, so you had no choice but to be all smiles
"President Bang, your mother is calling you," you told him, and if you were annoyed, you didn't show it, having years of practice from dealing with the directors.
"uh-huh," Chris smirked, taking the phone from your hands and answering it as he gestured for you to help him gather his papers.
"No, mom. I’ve told you already, i’m really fine with how things are now. I'm not going on another one."
Not that you cared, but you had to admit you were kind of curious as to what he was so insistently refusing.
"Yes, okay, bye," he hung up, handing the phone back to you.
You'd tried your best to suppress your curiosity, seeing as he was about to be late for his next meeting with one of his friends if he hadn't hurried.
Fixing your blouse, you'd carried your laptop in your arm as you walked with him back to his office, with you going into the lift first, Chris having chosen the wrong time to step in as a girl you recognised as one of the interns had done so too, the number of people squeezing into the lift causing her to jerk her arm, her coffee landing unceremoniously on Chris’ tie and shirt.
Chris let out a hiss at the temperature of the liquid, eliciting a long string of apologies from the girl. You knew that if it was you that had spilled the coffee, he would be going on and on about carelessness now, but the intern obviously wasn’t you, and so you watched in envy as Chris had given her a smile, dismissing her apologies quickly.
“It’s fine, really. I just hope you still have some coffee left to drink,” he laughed.
Not only was he not upset, but he was joking with her too?
You scoffed, rolling your shoulders back as you’d watched the numbers on the elevator rise till it reached your floor, the girl looking scared for her life when you’d cast her a look, bowing to you apologetically.
“Where did you keep the spare change of clothes?” Chris asked as he’d begun loosening his tie.
You hadn’t responded as he let you walk before him into his office, making your way over to one of the cupboards at the side of the room and opening it, pulling out a hanger with a nicely ironed set of work clothes.
“You can go and get changed, I’ll wait here,” you murmured, Chris walking over to where you were and giving you his stained tie.
God, you hoped his dry-cleaning run wouldn’t make you late for your lunch appointment.
Looking at his tie, you brought it up closer to your face to inspect the material, it was a well-made tie, you had to say. Not too skinny, the material feeling almost luxurious in your hold, tempting you to put it on in your boredom.
Hanging it round your neck, you mustered your best ‘Chris accent’.
“You should be accountable for your mistakes! Don’t you know how many people you’re inconveniencing? Now I have a tie that reeks of coffee, look,” you held up the tie with a gasp, “and my secretary’s gonna be late for her lunch meeting!” You pointed accusatorially at the small black penholder that sat on his desk.
“Yeah! Do you know how much you’re inconveniencing me? I don’t ask you to show up to work to waste my time—“
You’d stopped in your tracks when you heard Chris clearing his throat, grimacing as you tried to regain your composure, taking off the tie as quickly as you could, holding it tightly in your palm as you turned to face him.
“Having fun?”
“No,” you shot back quickly, not even wanting to ask how long he’d been standing there.
Walking over to you, he’d handed you his stained shirt, his expression like that of a parent that had caught their kid doing something they weren’t supposed to be doing.
“You know, sometimes I wish you’d talk back to the directors like how you talk back to me.”
Your eyes widened, confused at his sudden comment, but not having the time to respond as Chris continued.
“Get these dry-cleaned over lunch. The stain’ll be harder to get out the longer you wait.”
You huffed, already walking away from him, “well, when you say it like that I’d might as well go do it now.”
You'd been keeping yourself busy with replying emails when you heard the elevator ding, the sound of footsteps getting louder before you saw a considerably young, suit-clad man walking towards your desk.
"I'm here to see Chris? I'm Director Kang," he told you, though you didn't need him to introduce himself, knowing very well who he was.
"He's in there," you held a finger up to signal him to wait as you picked up your desk telephone, pressing a button to page Chris.
"Director Kang's here to see you."
"Okay, send him in."
Chris closed the work he was doing on his desktop, making his way over to the leather couches as he saw his friend enter the room.
"Yo, when were you planning on telling me about your hot secretary?"
Chris' eyebrows raised, "didn't think that was something worth mentioning."
"Well, why not?" his friend frowned, his features pulling into one of shock, "wait, don't tell me... you guys are dating?"
Chris rolled his eyes, "no, we're not. And please, for both our sakes, don't try anything funny with her."
The director was about to respond, interrupted by your knocking on the door, the door opening slightly so you could enter.
"Can I get you anything? Like a drink? Coffee? Tea?" you asked.
The director simply looked at you curiously, sitting with his ankle resting on his other knee, "only if you'd care to join me."
Chris glared at his friend, shutting him up quickly before he could say anything more, "coffee for him, I don't want a drink."
You nodded, exiting quickly.
"What did you come to tell me about?"
"Must I have a reason to come and visit my beloved friend?"
Chris rolled his eyes, "my time is precious."
This made the director scoff, "is that your excuse now? Anyway, I came to ask if you were going for Brian's wedding next weekend."
"Oh, yeah, right. He asked me about it last night and I said I would go, you?"
Director Kang rolled his eyes, "can't, I've got a business trip that weekend."
Chris hummed in acknowledgement, "that reminds me. I should get a gift for them soon. Who'd he say he was marrying again?"
"This girl he met at work, she's nice. But, you know, not my type."
As if that wasn't enough, Director Kang continued, "anyway, are you bringing a date?"
He was interrupted once again by the sound of your knocking, the door opening as you made your way over to them, bending to place the cup of coffee down onto the table, making Director Kang gesture to you with his head, mouthing 'you should bring her'.
Waving him off, Chris was eager to get Director Kang’s attention away from you, almost as if wanting to protect you from getting swayed by him, knowing the outcome was never too bright.
"Y/N, you can go for an early lunch break today."
Your eyebrows raised, the prospect seeming almost too good to be true. Since when was he so nice?
"Huh? But I still have some stuff to hand the legal team..." you sounded unsure, though you did consider this to be luck since you were supposed to meet one of your friends from college for lunch today.
Chris gave you a stern look, waving you off, making you raise your hands in surrender.
“Okay, okay, I’ll go.”
On your way out, you’d texted your friend that you were gonna be able to meet earlier, pleasantly surprised when she’d told you she was already in the area and that she was able to head over now.
You’d managed to drop off Chris’ clothes for dry-cleaning before heading to the restaurant, spotting your friend already seated at your table.
“Hey! Wow, you look great!” She told you, giving you a hug in greeting.
“Feel a lot better compared to last year,” you joked, making her frown.
“Your boss still giving you trouble?”
Shrugging, you’d taken a seat, “nothing out of the ordinary. Seems like it’s part of his daily routine to annoy me.”
She laughed, “I ordered our food already, if you don’t mind.”
Shaking your head, you waved in dismissal, “no, yeah, I don’t mind. Thanks. Anyway, you look pretty good yourself, how’ve you been?”
You didn’t miss the way she’d leaned closer to you, tucking her hair behind her ear in a pointed gesture, drawing your attention to the large gemstone on her ring.
Your eyes widened, “no way.”
She nodded, “I wanted to tell you sooner but you were so busy! I was glad enough I managed to squeeze in this lunch with you,” she told you, making you pout.
“When’s the wedding?” You asked.
“Next week. We’re going to have it in this beautiful church out of town, really really nice place,” she told you, “really romantic, too,” she added as an afterthought.
You let out a deep sigh, “I hope you’re not going where I think you’re going with this.”
She gave you a scandalised look, pausing as the waiter had come to deliver your food, “first of all, Brian has a lot of good-looking friends!”
You gave her a look, prompting her to continue, “well, not that I’ve seen all of them but he tells me that a lot of them are single! And you know who else is single…” she pointed her finger towards you with an overly excited glint to her grin.
“We’ve been through this a million times, Eujin. I’ve tried but it’s really hard to find a guy that’s willing to cope with… you know, my kind of schedule,” you gave her a tired (wistful) sigh, “and with my schedule, I doubt I have the time, not to mention the energy to date.”
Eujin’s lips twisted into a frown, “but it’s been so long! Don’t you want to get back in the dating scene?”
You scoffed, cutting into your food harshly before taking a bite.
“Of course I do. But the last time I went on a date the guy basically shat on me for being a workaholic,” you huffed, “I mean, my boss’ working hours means my working hours, shouldn’t they just shit on him instead? Why is it my fault that he’s basically destroyed what I have left of a social life.”
Eujin shot you a look of sympathy, “I’d say I pitied you, but it’s not like you can’t get a job anywhere else, you know?”
You’d kept your mouth shut at that, “I know… it just… I can’t just leave when I’ve already gotten so used to how things work here.”
Of course that was one reason, but you would never admit that there was a nagging inside of you that didn't trust Chris to look after himself if you weren't here, remembering how he'd overworked himself during a crucial period after he took over the company, and you'd found him passed out on his desk when you showed up to work that day.
You'd sort of made a silent promise that as much as you didn't like him, you still cared for him in a way. In the way a secretary would care for her boss, totally.
You decided to change the topic, not wishing to talk about your hopeless love life at the moment.
“What’s the program gonna be like?”
Eujin’s eyes lit up, setting her cutlery down as she clasped her hands together, “Okay, so. The plan is for it to be a sort of weekend-long thing,” she told you, holding her finger up.
“Firstly, on Thursday night we’ll have a little girls night type thing, and then Friday is the rehearsal dinner, Saturday will kind of be a little rest day and then Sunday is the actual wedding,” she said, now holding up four fingers to you.
Your head was spinning at the (rather enticing) thought of taking basically 4 days off of work, before the dread settled in that you had to ask Chris for permission to take those days off.
“I hope my boss will let me take time off…” you murmured, already rehearsing in your head possible ways on how you could tell him.
Eujin gave you a resolute look, “you can do it! If he says no just let me know, I’ll go over to your fancy office and fight whoever he is myself.”
===
“How many days?”
Chris had asked at your desk as he prepared to leave to meet his mom for lunch since she’d happened to be in the business district.
You fiddled with your pen anxiously, “uh..4 days? Technically 3 and a half. But 2 of those are weekends I just need you to make sure you just don’t bother me on that weekend it’s a really important weekend.”
Chris narrowed his eyes at you, unsure why you were so insistent on him leaving that weekend alone, nodding slowly.
Whatever, he figured, she’s just lucky I’m busy that weekend too.
“Okay.”
“I swear I’ll—wait, you’re okay with it?”
Chris shrugged, straightening his tie, “yeah. I’ve got something on that weekend too.”
You let out a surprised hum, “oh… cool. Thanks…Mr Bang,” you added as a force of habit, not wanting to risk getting scolded for ‘insubordination’ again just because you didn’t call him by his honorific.
Chris huffed, leaving before you could see his ears reddening.
Over lunch, Chris’ mom had been inspecting him carefully as he ate, as if the answer to her worries lay in every piece of sushi he ate.
“Is there something you’re not telling me? Are you… gay?” She asked, continuing, “because if you are you know you can just tell me, instead of constantly upsetting the girls I try to set you up with.”
Chris gave her a unamused look, “mom, I’ve told you a thousand times. I would really love to date, but it’s hard to find someone with a similar work ethic as myself, that can keep up with my… lifestyle and who really understands my needs, you know?”
This made Chris’ mom perk up, “that’s it! Why don’t you just date your secretary!”
Chris almost choked on his sushi, fumbling to grab his glass of water to calm himself down and compose himself.
“What,” he spoke between coughs, “gave you that idea?”
His mom looked at him in disbelief, “whatever you just said, you were basically describing her, no? And plus, we’ve heard a lot of wonderful things about her from your uncle.”
Chris couldn’t help but entertain the possibility in his head. It was true, you did work at a very efficient pace with him, not to mention how spending almost everyday in such close contact with him made you understand his own needs and wants even better than he did on occasions. Chris shook his head, that wasn’t possible, right? You looked as though you’d absolutely hated him half the time, he’d be expecting too much from you if he’d expected you to fall for him.
Chris shook his head, dismissing the thought from both him and his mom’s minds quickly, “no, mom. I’m fine with how things are between us right now.”
Chris had let you leave the office earlier on Thursday, (much to your surprise) allowing you to have ample time to pack your bags and get a cab to the destination, Eujin having taken the liberty and helped you book your hotel beforehand.
Upon reaching, you’d texted Eujin saying you’d reached.
eujin 6:54pm -yay!! Lets just chill in one of our rooms, we can discuss it in the chatgroup!!-
Trust her to be excitable even about the smallest things.
You saw an incoming text from Seungmin.
seungmin (personal)  6:54pm -what where r u I went over to find u but both u and Chris weren’t here-
6:55pm -im at a friends wedding, took the weekend off-
seungmin (personal)  6:55pm -wow finally using your employee perks nvm then have fun-
You’d checked in, marvelling at the cozy yet elegant look of the hotel as you made your way through the lobby, letting the lift take you up to your hotel room floor.
Changing into more comfortable clothes, you’d seen the group chat saying to gather in Eujin’s room, with mentions of ordering pizza. Considering this was your first weekend away from work in a very, long while, you were determined to make the most of it, heading over to Eujin’s room.
You hadn’t expected to be welcomed as warmly as you were, hearing comments of ‘we were so happy you could make it!’ Or ‘thank God you could take time off!’, sharing the same sentiments as them as you’d let Eujin pull you onto the bed, the softness of the sheets and pillows instantly making a content sigh leave you.
“I ordered room service,” Eujin sing-songed, gesturing to the Champagne bottles and whatnot on the tray next to the bed.
“I’ll have one,” you raised your hand, earning a laugh from one of your friends.
“Tired from work?”
You let out a loud groan, nodding. This made Eujin nod gravely, “I swear, if I ever see your boss in real life, I’m gonna give him a piece of my mind.”
You scoffed, “you don’t even know what he looks like.” You’d gratefully accepted the glass of champagne that was handed to you. "and plus, he's not that bad, other than the fact that he finds joy in pissing me off. He just works too hard in my opinion."
You’d spent your time enjoying the once chance you could relax to your heart’s content without feeling dread at having to wake up early the following day, enjoying yourself as you leant against the headboard of the bed, listening to stories about how they’ve been and how all of them were either planning on getting engaged soon, were in long-term relationships or already married.
“You guys make me wanna get married too,” you pouted, earning bouts of laughter from them.
“You’d have to actually date to do that, you know,” they told you pointedly, making you sigh.
“You’re basically married to your job, already,” your friend chimed in, making you laugh.
“Seems like that, doesn’t it? I was super shocked he’d let me have the weekend off, usually he’d be swarming me with emails about now.”
“I’m excited to see Brian’s friends tomorrow, maybe there’ll be someone that catches your eye,” Eujin told you, making you shrug.
“Just out of curiosity, though, what are you looking for in a guy? You know, we could help you keep an eye out too.”
You hummed, shrugging.
“I’ve never really thought of a specific…criteria I guess. I guess I’d just like someone that’s kind, looks out for me, doesn't underestimate me...sort of has the same lifestyle as me? Since it’s honestly been really hard to find someone that doesn’t hate my schedule.”
You'd almost scoffed at the way your brain had refused to picture anyone else other than Chris while you thought about it, figuring it was probably because he was the only guy you were in constant contact with.
Eujin looked at you resolutely, “we’ll do our best,” she held up a fist in an action to cheer you on.
You shrugged, You figured maybe going into this with an open mind would do you some good.
You changed the topic, directing the focus back to Eujin, “whatever, let’s just have fun, it’s your big day soon, let’s just celebrate!”
===
At the rehearsal dinner, you had yet to arrive, since you’d spent a little longer getting ready, choosing to use your opportunity to dress up a little more, not having the luxury to do so during your usual work days.
You had texted Eujin that you were on the way with some of the other bridesmaids, her attention directed elsewhere when her fiancé had called her over.
“Hey, wanted you to meet some of my friends from law school.”
While being introduced, Eujin couldn’t help but wonder if they were single, remembering your mentioned criteria from the night before.
“Oh, so are you guys all working in the law sector now?”
Her husband shook his head, “All of them, except Chan here. He’s the ceo of Bang Mobile Media company.”
Eujin’s eyes widened, glancing at the brown-haired boy cautiously, as if sizing him up. Y/N worked in a mobile company too, right? If she was remembering this correctly. Was it mobile or broadcasting?
“Oh, wow. That’s impressive.”
Eujin had let them introduce themselves more, not being able to help but think that Chan was nice, friendly, and rich on top of that?
“I don’t get it, how are you single? You’re basically the whole package!” She wondered out loud, making Chan flush, giggling as he shook his head.
Her husband seemed to have begged to differ, “Chan is incorrigible when it comes to his love life.”
Eujin raised her eyebrows in surprise, not having expected someone so good-looking to have such a fate, “really? Is there a reason behind that?”
“He’d never dated much, even back when he was in Australia. He was always super dedicated to his work,” this had served to make Eujin even more positive about this guy’s prospects as a suitor for you.
“Oh my god, you’re exactly like one of my friends, I should totally introduce her to you when she comes later.”
“Hey, cut him some slack,” one of his friends had spoken up, “Chan can’t cheat on his job.”
Eujin felt her phone vibrate signalling a notification, pulling it out to see that you’d arrived already, excusing herself and practically running over to the entrance of the venue. “Chan, you stay put, I have just the perfect girl to introduce you to!”
“Y/N! You have to come quick, I think I found the perfect guy for you.”
Your eyes widened, clutching onto the chain of your bag as you followed her into the room.
“He’s really nice, and friendly, and he’s good-looking! Really cute dimples! And on top of that he’s loaded. I’m so excited for you to meet him.”
Letting her drag you along, you’d distracted yourself with the atmosphere of the area, wondering just how much it would cost to book a venue like this, tugging down your dress that was hiking up from practically running after Eujin.
“Hey, I have someone I’d like you to meet. Chan, this is Y/N,” Eujin chirped, the names causing the both of your heads to shoot up, locking eyes with each other as a feeling of doom built in the pit of your stomach.
Your eyes widened in panic, glancing down at your attire, back to him, who was dressed in a flowy black shirt that you were sure cost more than your one week’s pay, the top few buttons of his shirt undone to reveal a simple silver necklace, and fitted black pants, your gaze landing on the small silver rings on his ears, almost feeling as though you were looking at a different person.
Chris thought so too, seeming to have the same panic as you as he tried not to let his gaze linger too long on your dress, nodding his head at you in greeting, “nice to uh…meet you.”
His ears had felt hot as you nodded back at him, almost startling when Eujin had cheered, leaning over to whisper to you, “I’ll make sure you guys get to sit next to each other.”
You were about to protest when she’d left, leaving you standing at the bar with Chris.
“So, Y/N, how do you know the bride to be?”
You gulped, wanting to slap yourself for how your gaze had kept returning to Chris, unable to shake the feeling of needing to be in work-mode now with his presence before you.
“Oh, uh, we were friends since college,” you answered simply.
“Cool, did you guys have the same major?” Chris had to stop himself from glaring at his friend, a strange feeling inside of him as he recognised the look on his friend’s face and his posture to be that which he used whenever he was interested in a girl.
You shook your head, “uh, not quite. I majored in law but she majored in journalism.” You tried to respond as calmly as you could, not being able to shake Chris’ gaze off of you, feeling as though at any moment he was going to call you out for something you weren’t even aware of.
You saw the guy practically light up at the mention of law.
“Woah, that’s really coincidental. All of us met in law school,” he gestured to the group of them, making you laugh nervously.
“Where are you guys um… dates?” You asked, immediately regretting the question when you saw the way Chris was practically glaring at you.
You didn’t understand why he was glaring at you, wasn’t it a valid question?
“We didn’t bring dates, unfortunately. Did you?”
You shook your head, making Chris snort. “Does it look like she brought a date? She literally came in alone.”
You narrowed your eyes at him, unsure where his spitefulness was coming from, especially when his friend was just trying to make conversation with you.
You scoffed, folding your arms. “Yeah, pity. Maybe I’d have time to date if I wasn’t always so busy running around doing shit for my boss,” you cast a pointed glance at him, bringing a hand up to nonchalantly run it through your hair.
Chris smirked, two could play at this game.
“Same here, I’d probably have the time to date too if my secretary wasn’t always causing trouble.”
“Your secretary?” His friend spoke up, “I heard from someone she was pretty cute, and nice too.”
You’d almost wanted to agree, realising that if you did it would put you in a pretty compromising position, simply acting surprised.
“If I had a secretary like that, I’d just date her,” one of his friends had spoken up, making your eyes widen, wracking your brain for possible responses.
“Who knows, are you a workaholic?” You asked pointedly, earning amused grunts and laughs from his friends, “ah… it’d be too bad if I was your secretary, then. I absolutely can’t stand dating workaholics.”
Chris narrowed his eyes at you, the both of you knowing you were just as bad at him, replying calmly, “oh, you can’t stand dating workaholics? Me neither.”
You were thankful that Eujin had given you a small break when she'd invited everyone to take their seats so dinner could be served, wincing when you'd ended up sitting next to Chris out of habit, momentarily forgetting that you weren't attending a networking session.
You'd hoped and prayed that you wouldn't slip up more than you already did. As much as you'd wanted to spite him, he was still your boss, and you knew he'd give you an earful for even the slightest hint of disrespect ( which you were sure you'd surpassed already ).
Focusing on the gorgeous food they'd served you, you saw the waiter pick up the bottle of wine, pouring it for you.
Having been oblivious, the waiter was about to pour a glass for Chris as well, making your secretary-instincts kick in, your arm darting across Chris to stop the waiter in time.
"No, Mr Bang, you shouldn't drink that."
Chris would have looked fairly amused if he wasn't stressed out by your proximity, with you practically leaning over him to speak to the waiter.
You'd cursed internally, wincing at the way Chan's friend had looked at you, tilting his head in confusion.
"Mr Bang? And how do you know his alcohol preference?"
Chris let out a nervous giggle as you straightened up, "uh...well um like...you know it's a really funny story actually... we're um..."
Not being able to bear his awkward fumbling any longer, you'd butt in, "We work in the same company. Yeah."
You were lucky his friend had bought it, simply nodding in understanding, "no wonder, you guys were being so weird just now."
Chris scoffed, "what weird?"
You turned around in your chair, pretending to pick up your bag, "stop, you're making it worse," you murmured so he could hear you, making him bring his glass of water to his lips.
One of your girl friends had spoken up, halfway through the meal, "wait, i just realised. If you guys work in the same office, then you must know her boss right? That dude is crazy. We all thought it was a miracle that she could take time off for the wedding,"
You glared at your friend, trying to subtly shake your head in your attempt to stop her, but she was oblivious, "she doesn't like it when we badmouth him but it's true! Ever since she started working for him it's like her social life just disappeared. Her boss is always her first priority."
You'd never related more to how people said they wished the ground would swallow you whole. Looking down at your food, you'd tried to remain nonchalant about it, but Chris who was next to you was looking at your friend with wide eyes.
"Oh, really? What else does she say about him?"
You laughed nervously, waving your hands in dismissal, "nothing that concerns you."
Chris turned to you, dropping his volume to a murmur, "is that so? because i'm hearing all this and i'm getting the feeling it definitely concerns me."
You let out a huff of anxious laughter, bringing your glass to your lips, consuming your drink in sips because your boss was sitting next to you, but secretly wishing you could down it all in one go.
Soon enough, all your anxious sipping had made you reach an empty glass, the waiter coming over to refill it for you, earning an eyebrow raise from Chris.
"Leave me alone," you huffed.
Chris simply laughed, "what? I didn't say anything."
You'd tried to pay attention to the proceedings of the wedding rehearsal, and after dessert was served people had started to mingle around more, the drinks having started to kick in as you'd felt a lot more relaxed.
It was safe to say Eujin was as well, going around to talk to the guests and thank them for coming out of town for the celebrations.
Soon enough, you were almost done with your fourth glass, oblivious to the way Chris was looking at you, impressed yet concerned. Feeling skinny arms drape over your shoulders, you turned your head to see none other than Eujin, cooing at you affectionately.
"Tell your boss a huge thank you for letting you have this weekend. I couldn't even get to see you on my birthday or for the engagement party, but i'm so so glad you're here now."
You couldn't help but glance at Chris, knowing that you'd missed both of those events because you were helping him with something. The first being when he'd almost overworked himself enough to warrant a visit to the hospital since he hadn't been sleeping or eating well (after that, you swore you'd make sure this man was getting his three meals if you could help it), and the second time being when you had to accompany him to a keynote session out of town.
You were starting to think maybe there was a little more to unpack behind your reasons why you stayed working for Chris Bang. Your only consolation at this point of time being that the rehearsal dinner was ending soon, meaning that you could finally escape the suffocating tension you were feeling.
"Wanna hitch a ride back together? I drove here."
You'd almost declined, feeling as if you didn't have a right to be in his car if it wasn't work-related. Chris had seemed to sense your hesitation, simply not waiting for a reply and walking off, hoping his smile wasn't too obvious when he'd heard you jogging to meet his pace.
He'd surprised you even more when he'd opened the passenger door for you, shutting it gently after you'd gotten in.
You'd given in to the comfort of his car almost immediately, more-so when Chris had gone to take something from the boot of his car, getting into the driver's seat and draping the soft blanket over your lap.
"The drive back's pretty long, might wanna make yourself comfortable."
And you were comfortable, very comfortable. Chris had started to play some music from his playlist, something about his behaviour almost making you forget that he was the same boss that had worked you to the bone for over a year.
"I'm sorry," you suddenly spoke, once you were in the city, "about what my friends said," you weren't sure where all your courage was coming from, maybe it was the many glasses of wine, but whatever it was, it was putting Chris in an awfully reflective mood.
"And what I said," you added as an afterthought.
Chris took his lower lip between his teeth, shaking his head, “nah, don’t worry about it.”
Obviously, that seemed too good to be true, and you’d looked over at his expression in your attempt to figure out if he was being sincere. He was definitely gonna fire you.
“I’m not gonna fire you, if that’s what you’re thinking. I’m just kind of…like, you know, wondering,” he began, “the uh… engagement party and the birthday party that you um… you know, that you missed. Were they both because of me?”
You pursed your lips, nodding, “but it wasn’t your fault, you know. The first one was when you’d passed out… you know, at the office, remember?”
He nodded, prompting you to continue, “the next one was a keynote session that I had to follow you to.”
Chris gulped, his throat feeling dry all of a sudden. This whole time he wouldn’t have guessed you’d been giving up these things for him from how willing you’d seemed to work. Was this considered neglecting the needs of my employee? Probably. But whatever it was, Chris knew that he was being harsh on you more for his own sake than yours, but he was only starting to realise now that that might not have been such a good tactic.
Chris was already pulling into the hotel, stopping at the valet services as you’d slung your bag over your shoulder, Chris coming out to open your door for you, making you grimace, feeling as though you should've been the one to open it for him.
Walking into the hotel lobby, you'd glanced at your phone, seeing as Eujin had texted you tomorrow's plans, "did you get the schedule for tomorrow? I can forward it to you-"
Chris let a giggle escape him, nodding, "you know they would've sent it to me too, right?"
Your lips parted in realisation, nodding as you went over to press the lift button before he could even reach over to do so, "right, forgot."
You were sure it was something about your intoxicated state that was making you instinctively go into work mode, whatever relaxation you thought you would be getting on this weekend now seeming all too far from reach.
"Uh... I can check what time the hotel serves breakfast and arrange for something to be sent to your room if you want-"
"Y/N," his tone was enough to make you straighten up, goosebumps rising on your skin for some reason.
Chris was looking at you in amusement, one hand shoved into his pocket, "you're not working, remember? This is your rest weekend."
Your eyebrows knit in a frown, chewing on your lip as you averted your gaze, "I know but it's just... like I didn't expect to see you here and now that you are I can't help but feel like I'm at work or something," you'd turned to wonder what was taking the elevator so long, watching as the numbers had gone lower and lower, completely skipping your floor and heading to the carpark.
"You know what? How about this," he began, pausing momentarily when you heard the elevator ding, stepping inside the empty elevator and pushing your floor button, your heart almost stopping when he hadn't made to press any button.
"You're on the 14th floor too?" He nodded.
"Anyway, as I was saying. To make things easier for you, let's just pretend we don't know each other, that i'm not your boss, you're not my secretary. We're just... two people that met at a wedding? You don't have to do anything for me as long as we're here, hmm?" he offered, seeming to sense your hesitance
"Look, I'll go first," he stretched his hand out as if to ask for a handshake, "hello, nice to meet you, i'm Chan."
"Chan?"
He nodded, "my friends call me Chan. People only call me Chris at work."
You'd brought your hand up slowly, grasping his in yours, the cold metal of his rings against your skin more obvious when he'd given your hand a small squeeze.
"Nice to meet you, Chan. I'm Y/N?" you tried, looking at him for approval and earning a nod from him, trying your best to ignore the way he was smiling.
"Yes, that's your name," he laughed.
Letting go of his hand, you were thankful the elevator had reached your floor without any interruptions, realising just how lucky you were to have not bumped into him earlier on as he'd continued walking with you to your room, gesturing to the door opposite your room with wide eyes.
"My room's here."
You made to take out your hotel room key, hearing him clear his throat, and you'd turned around rapidly to face him, strangely eager to know what he was about to say.
"Say, Y/N, I'd love to, you know, get to know you more. What do you think about getting brunch with me tomorrow?”
You opened and closed your mouth for lack of a response. This was inappropriate, right? But then again, you weren’t working this weekend. And technically, in this situation, Chan wasn’t your boss. So, there was nothing to lose.
You nodded, “Yeah. That sounds…nice.”
===
“Sounds kind of suspicious if you asked me,” you heard Seungmin’s voice over the speaker, making you sigh. You were already ready, lounging on your bed as if to mentally prepare yourself for a stupid lunch.
“Right? I don’t know what he’s trying to get out of this.”
Seungmin knew. But it’s not as if he was going to tell you, no, that was Chan’s job not his. Frankly, he’d had enough of listening to the both of you whine about your apparent personal vendetta against each other. He watched his fair share of movies, Seungmin knew how these things worked.
“Maybe it’ll give you a chance to actually talk to each other like normal human beings instead of just bickering all the time for no reason.”
“I have a reason, I’ll have you know.”
Seungmin scoffed, “really? Enlighten me, then.”
You’d fumbled for a reason, stuttering in your failure to find something that validated your annoyance towards Chan.
“I don’t know, his dimples are stupid.”
Seungmin wanted to laugh, “so you’re telling me, you just can’t stand him because of his stupid dimples?”
Your attention was diverted when you’d felt your phone vibrate, signalling an incoming text from Chan.
boss  11:20am -meet u outside your hotel room in 10?-
“Shit, he wants to meet me in 10 minutes.”
Seungmin shrugged, “10 minutes is more than enough time for you to come up with a less shitty reason why you don’t like him. Or for you to realise that you don’t actually hate him.”
You scoffed, burying your face into your sheets as you thought of a reason.
“Okay, I’ve got it. I just don’t like how he treats everyone so nicely and then treats me like I’m some incompetent kid.”
“You know for a fact he doesn’t think you’re incompetent. He literally trusts you more than he does the other staff.”
You scoffed, “yeah, whatever. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s so condescending about it, he thinks of me i’m some kid that doesn’t know anything.”
Seungmin snorted, remembering the incident where Chan had asked him to tell you to button up your blouse after the directors behaviour during a meeting.
“Oh, he definitely doesn’t see you as a kid,” Seungmin cackled, earning an eye roll from you.
Glancing at the time, you saw how it was almost 11:30, “okay, I gotta go. I’ll talk to you later.”
Ending the call, you’d slung your small bag around your shoulder, giving one last glance at your appearance in the mirror in the bathroom before leaving your hotel room, startling when you’d spotted Chan there.
Dressed in a black pullover and jeans, Chan smiled at you, bringing a hand up to touch his ear, “morning,” he greeted.
“Good morning,” you huffed nervously.
He’d already begun walking, making you follow beside him, “did you get a good sleep?”
His eyebrows raised at your question, nodding at you. His hair was curlier than usual, not styled up like you usually saw. “you?”
You nodded, following him in silence as you’d gone down the list, realising he’d pressed the ground floor instead of where they were serving food on the 3rd floor.
“You pressed the wrong floor,” you began, not expecting to see the pleading smile on his face.
“Actually, I was thinking of bringing you to this place nearby, I’ve been there before and it’s pretty good.”
Your first thought was to wonder if it was expensive, knowing that this time you didn’t have the company card to fall back on.
“Is it expensive?” You asked, seeing him shrug.
“Not really.”
Only when you’d reached the area did you realise how much of an understatement Chan made. The restaurant was a small cozy-looking place that served food that you’d only heard of up till now, located along a line of boutiques selling unusual trinkets and handmade items.
Upon reaching, you and Chan had been led up upstairs to an outdoor seating area of the restaurant, the view of the scenery accompanied with the breeze instantly putting you in a relaxed mood.
“Do you like it?” He asked, almost sounding nervous.
Nodding reassuringly, you’d wanted to run away when you saw the way he’d walked over to where you were, pulling your chair out for you to sit on, making you flush. Never in your life would you have thought your boss would be pulling out your chair for you.
“You know, you don’t have to do that,” you told him, using the menu to hide your face from view, pulling it down slightly to watch how he’d rest his forearm on the table, scanning through the menu with a smirk on his face, his (stupid) dimples appearing on his cheeks.
“I wanted to. You’d never let me do it for you on any other occasion.”
You had to admit that there was some truth to what you were saying, choosing to change the subject by telling him you’d decided on what you wanted to eat, choosing something that was still within your budget for the weekend.
Beckoning the waiter over, Chan pushed his sleeves up to his elbows as he ordered for the both of you, the waiter asking what drinks you would want, a teasing smile on Chan’s face when you’d insisted on water.
“What?” You scoffed, earning a shake of the head from him.
“Nothing.”
You’d leant back in your seat, about to tie your hair up into a ponytail, hearing the buzzing of your phone, reading the caller id to see that it was your mom trying to video call you.
Sitting up quickly, you were about to excuse yourself when Chan had reached over, swiping to answer the call as he lifted the phone, pointing it towards you, his other hand beckoning for you to continue.
“Hey, mom,” you spoke through gritted teeth, your rubber band between your teeth as you worked quickly to bunch your hair into a ponytail, Chan wanting to slap himself with how his ears had started to feel hot.
“Hey, honey. Where are you? I called the office but they said you were on leave?”
You secured your hair, taking the phone from Chan with a grateful murmur of ‘thanks’, making your mother’s eyes narrow, “who are you with?”
“I’m attending Eujin’s wedding this weekend. I’m just uh…with a friend.”
Chan looked away to clear his throat, catching your mom’s attention, “guy? I thought you told me you weren’t dating anyone.”
This had caught Chan’s attention, having remembered Seungmin telling him that you’d broken up with your boyfriend.
“No, yeah, mom it’s just a friend. Can I call you later?”
Your mom’s eyebrows lifted, looking at you with a cheeky smile on her face, “oh, oh. Yes, of course you can. Have fun, baby.”
You hung up quickly, shoving your phone back into your bag, looking up at Chan in question as to why he looked so surprised.
“Your mom doesn’t know you have a boyfriend?” He asked, as if wanting that confirmation for himself, not feeling comfortable with pursuing his feelings if you were still in a relationship.
You shook your head, “no uh…I broke up with my boyfriend a long time ago.”
Chan’s lips pursed, nodding, “oh… sorry.”
You shook your head, not being able to help a breathy laugh from leaving you, “don’t be. He was…it was for the best.”
“D’you mind if I ask why? You don’t have to answer me if you don’t want to, I’m just kind of…curious.”
You shrugged, not feeling as inclined to hide the information, since it was in the past now.
“Nah he just… our schedules always clashed and I was always too tired by the end of the day to go out to find him and I guess it like, you know, sort of reached a point where I started prioritising my work and it didn’t work out.”
Chan nodded slowly, the waiter coming over to serve you your food, “go ahead, you can start eating first.”
You shook your head, insisting on waiting for his food to arrive before starting. “But I’m honestly fine now, it’s been more than a year since we broke up.”
Chan huffed in amusement, “is that why you said you can’t stand dating workaholics?”
Your giggles bubbled out of you, “honestly, I only said that to spite you. I’d much rather date someone that understands my schedule and reaches a compromise with me instead of just always expecting me to drop everything at their beck and call.”
Chan nodded, “I get that. Yeah, work is important and all but… I feel like if you really loved someone you’d find any moment you could to be with them. Well, for me at least.”
You laughed, “kind of hard, when we spend almost every waking moment with each other.”
You’d looked up from your food when Chan hadn’t responded, the waiter finally coming over to serve his food, though his expression remained, looking at you as though he’d wanted to say something.
“yeah,” he huffed eventually, starting to eat his food.
You’d shocked yourself with how comfortable you were in his presence with the knowledge that you weren’t working. This was what you wanted, wasn’t it? To have Chris treat you nicely like how he did the other employees. Only now you were realising how easy it was to catch feelings for him just from this one change.
Maybe you were kind of thankful he made it easier for you to hate him previously.
It was true that you understood him better than most, and that he understood you as well, knowing what got on your nerves and what didn’t, how you worked and how you responded to things. Albeit there were a few things he still didn’t understand, you couldn’t deny that Chan was well-liked in the office for a reason, and you were beginning to experience that reason for yourself.
Chris had been mulling over what his mother had told him about you, wondering if you were feeling the same tension that he was even as you talked about pointless things that made you wonder why you hadn’t talked about them sooner.
Not that it was a bad kind of tension (or maybe it was), but it was akin to the feeling of knowing that you would both have to confront a realisation soon.
“Are you doing anything tonight?” He asked as you were heading back to the car, earning a shrug from you.
“My friends wanted to have some kind of girls night thing, you?”
He sighed, nodding, “same, the guys and I are going out for drinks.”
You shot him a look, “drinks?”
He laughed, shaking his head, “I can hold my alcohol, I just choose not to drink.”
Your eyes widened, “and I’m only finding this out now because? Do you remember when I had to drink your drinks for you during the first networking session because you lied to me and told me you couldn’t drink that!”
Chan flushed, “I wasn’t lying, technically. I really couldn’t drink that, I don’t like white wine.”
You shot him a harmless glare, this time, letting him open the door for you as you got into the passenger’s seat.
“Don’t drink too much tonight, yeah?” He gave you an amused huff as he started the engine of the car.
“You too,” you held your pinky out for him to make a promise.
Chan nodded, linking his pinky with yours as he leaned closer to you, “deal.”
===
You’d heard the sound of beeping at your door that night, wondering what all the ruckus was all about, getting out of bed, taking your hotel room key and pausing the show you were watching on your phone, making your way over to your door carefully.
“Why isn’t the card working?” You heard a tell-tale Australian accent muffled through the door, looking through the peephole to see a head of messy brown hair, looking as though Chan was leaning against the door.
Opening the door slowly, you’d acted quickly to grab Chan by the shoulders to steady him before he could stumble forward, the confused boy holding up his hotel key and looking at you in confusion.
“This isn’t my room?”
You couldn’t help but laugh, turning him around as you’d ushered him a few steps forward to his hotel room door, “this,” you pointed at the door, “is your room, Chan.”
He giggled, “you called me ‘Chan’.”
Taking his hand, you scanned his hotel key, bringing him into his room, finding it awfully neat (unlike yours), smoothly guiding him to his bed and letting him flop onto it.
Letting out a sigh, you couldn’t help but to feel rather endeared, seeing him open his eyes slowly to look at you, tilting his head.
“Sorry, I promised I wouldn’t drink so much.”
You shook your head, reaching over him to grab at his blanket, your movements ceasing abruptly when you’d felt his hand on your back as you hovered over him, his hand moving from your back to your head, patting it gently.
Pulling the blanket up harshly in your panic to cover him, straightening up as quickly as you could.
“Shut up, go to sleep. Goodnight,” you said, hurriedly exiting the hotel room and going back to your room, closing the door behind you and trying to calm your rapid heartbeat.
The next time you’d seen him was at the hotel lobby, where you’d agreed to meet him so you could head to the wedding venue together. Chan had come down wearing a nice suit, something you were more used to seeing him in, his hair styled up in a familiar manner.
Greeting each other, you’d both decided to pretend the night before hadn’t occurred. With you being one of the bridesmaids and Chan being one of the groomsmen, you were separated almost immediately upon reaching the venue, with him having to help his friend while you helped Eujin.
“A little birdie told me you came together with Chan,” she sing-songed.
You scoffed, “aren’t brides usually supposed to be freaking out by now?”
“Don’t change the topic! So, did you guys hang out yesterday?”
You shrugged, “yeah, I guess we did.”
She narrowed her eyes at you, “so? Is there a verdict?”
You went behind her to take her bouquet, handing it to her as you waved her off in dismissal.
“Too early to tell,” you lied.
“Stop avoiding the question! Or else I’ll just have to ask Chan myself,” she huffed sulkily, making your eyes widen.
“No, don’t do that! Okay, fine. It’s good. He’s nice.”
Even Eujin’s makeup artist was giving you a knowing look now, making you cower under their gaze.
“Shut up, focus on your wedding, please.”
You wished you could’ve done some focusing for yourself, with Chan’s friends nudging him when you’d gone to the back of the church to line up with the groomsmen, all of them seeming to have conspired to let you walk with Chan.
“Why do you look more nervous than the bride?” He teased, holding his arm out for you to take, making you roll your eyes, bringing your hand up to grasp his arm.
“You’re delusional.”
Okay, maybe he wasn’t. You wished you could’ve taken your advice, having been distracted throughout almost the entire ceremony, your gaze constantly flickering over to Chan, and you were sure he’d noticed too, with the way he would smirk and avert his gaze to the floor in his attempt to stop himself from laughing.
Shouldn’t he be the one that was nervous? He was the one that had shown up drunk at your hotel room.
After the ceremony had ended and you were all done taking photos with the bride and groom, Chan had offered you a ride to the reception venue, and you’d accepted, not knowing that you would’ve had to squeeze in a car full of his friends too.
Sitting at the passenger’s seat (thankfully), you’d prayed for the ride to be shorter as his friends had started to question you and Chan.
“Is there something going on with you two?”
“None of your business,” Chan sing-songed, only serving to spur his friends on even more, your eyes widening when you’d heard one of his friends murmur.
“Wait, but didn’t he say he had a thing for his secretary?”
Your hand went up to cover your mouth as discreetly as you could, clutching the bag of your wedding gift for Eujin and her husband and looking out of the window in your attempt to keep your composure.
Chan had seemed to share your sentiments, his eyes widening as he panicked behind the steering wheel, his mind racing with things he could possibly do to prevent you from hearing what his friends were so freely spouting.
“Oh, did he? Then there can’t be anything going on with her, right?”
Chan had reached over to turn the volume of the music up, much to your fortune, not knowing if you would’ve been able to handle hearing them talk more about Chan’s love life.
Eujin wasn’t kidding when she said that she’d make you and Chan sit next to each other, and you’d ended up at a table with Chan nearer to the front, with a few of your friends and their partners. Watching Eujin and her husband enter the hall, you’d been filled with excitement at how happy she had looked, clapping and cheering for them along with the rest of the guests.
Once they were seated, Eujin and her husband had begun to make their own speeches, thanking the respective groups of people for coming, and you didn’t miss her pointed mention of how she hoped the guests would use this time to get to know each other as well.
The way Eujin had done things was that dinner was served so that the guests could listen to the speeches and enjoy their meals at the same time, which you didn’t mind since you were absolutely starving.
You didn’t miss the way Chan had been subtly looking out for you during the dinner, like how he would casually ask if you needed anything whenever he would get up to go to the bar, or how he’d brushed your hair behind your ear so it wouldn’t get into your food (not without a tut of his tongue), earning many surprised looks from your friends which he was oblivious to.
You figured he was really making use of the ‘let’s pretend we don’t know each other’ thing as an excuse to be nice to you, not that you were complaining.
You glanced at your phone, skimming over the texts that one of the intern secretaries had sent you to ask you for help, making your friend curious.
“Is that your boss?”
You shook your head, “nah it’s just one of the interns asking me for help with something,” you shrugged, setting your utensils down as you swiped into your email app, ready to clarify the problem for her, making Chan furrow his eyebrows in annoyance.
Reaching over, he’d taken your phone from you, locking it and dropping it back into your bag, ignoring your look of confusion.
“Hey, I was just gonna email her!”
“They’re not supposed to be asking you to do things for them while you’re on leave. No working, this is your rest weekend.”
You’d shut your mouth at that, deciding that it wouldn’t do you any well to go against him, wanting to pull your phone out to just read the emails but dropping your phone back when you saw the look he gave you daring you to continue.
Your friend had seemed to be fairly amused by your exchange, shooting a look at Chan, “wow, now I’m really glad you’re here. You’re the only one so far that’s managed to stop her from checking on her work when she’s supposed to be resting.”
You scoffed. Yeah, because the source of your work was sitting right next to you in a stupid suit.
“Good to know,” he gave you a knowing smile, making you direct your attention back the waiters, seeing that they were serving desserts now.
“Your friends make me sound like i’m a hard-ass,” he leaned closer to you to murmur, making you smile, nodding.
“Well, they’re not entirely wrong,” you drawled, making Chan scoff, though not being able to help the laugh from leaving him.
He nodded slowly, his expression looking fairly amused, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
You wondered just for a moment if he was only being nice to you for the sake of his own conscience (though Seungmin would beg to differ). And by the late afternoon, you were already starting to feel drowsy from the afternoon weather, the skies darkening as though it were about to rain. Chan had figured it would be good to start heading back.
After you’d bid goodbye to Eujin, who seemed more than eager for you to leave together with Chan, Chan had offered to drive a few of his friends back to the hotel together with you, and thankfully this time they hadn’t mentioned anything about his love life.
“Tired?” Chan huffed with a smile, glancing at you momentarily before fixing his gaze back on the road.
“Yeah,” you murmured, yawning.
“You should get some sleep when you get back to the hotel.”
You nodded, “you too.”
Chan nodded patronisingly, earning a huff from you, too tired to bicker with him. something in him stirring at how he could’ve been acting like this with you a lot earlier if he wasn’t always masking his concern with rude phrasing.
His mom sure was gonna be excited the next time he updates her.
===
You hadn’t gotten as much of a rejuvenating sleep as you would’ve liked, reality having kicked in that you were back to work tomorrow, the feeling lingering unsettlingly in your chest as you tried to make the most of the rest of your night. Somehow, you’d found your way to the lounge in the hotel, though that didn’t help much in lessening your dread for tomorrow seeing as the only other people here were people working on their laptops.
You figured it was not so much of dreading work than dreading Chan’s change in personality once he went back to being your boss.
Letting your head rest on the stiff cushion of the chair you were sitting on, you’d fiddled with your phone, texting Seungmin about what had happened today.
You’d almost startled in your seat when you saw someone take a seat next to you, turning to see Chan, his tie long gone as his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, his hair already falling out of place as he simply looked at you.
Raising your eyebrows in a silent question as to ask why he was here, he scoffed, looking away from you but failing to hide the reddening of his ears, “shut up, I just didn’t feel like sitting with a stranger.”
You huffed in amusement, “did you take a nap?”
Chan shook his head, “nah, just finished a conference call.”
Your eyes widened, “wait, why didn’t you tell me? I was doing nothing this whole time—“
Chan shook his head in dismissal, “you were tired. I told you, this is your rest time, I’m not allowed to touch it.”
You frowned, your mind racing with thoughts on how tomorrow could possibly go, looking at the carpet with a hint of a pout on your face, “yeah, and then tomorrow, everything goes back to normal.”
Chan inhaled deeply, leaning back in his seat as he turned his head to look at you, his hands clasped and resting on his lap.
“It doesn’t have to, you know… like…” he shrugged, “if you don’t want it to.”
Your lips parted, unsure how to respond to the implications of his words, unsure how to even process his words.
“It’d be… unprofessional for me to continue to act like… this towards my boss.”
Chan raised an eyebrow at you, shrugging, looking at you with an unreadable expression.
“I think I’m way past being professional already when it comes to you.”
You’d sworn the air had felt thicker, something about the way the night mood had felt, or how the music in the lounge had succeeded in relaxing you, but something inside of you was telling you to just do it, to lean forward and kiss him. And probably promptly resign the next day out of embarrassment.
You stood up quickly, “oh, I think my cab’s here, I have to go,” you lied blatantly, Chan not making any move to stop you, simply lifting a hand to wave you off with a tired smile on his face.
“Go, go. See you at work tomorrow.”
===
“Can’t we ask Y/N to ask him?” The secretaries and interns were currently huddled in the pantry, having gathered to discuss how great it would be to have a field day soon.
“But Y/N’s equally as scary as him!” One of the interns spoke up, making the secretaries hum thoughtfully.
You’d stepped into the pantry, walking through the secretaries to retrieve a juice packet for Chan.
“Hey, what’s up?” You asked, one of the secretaries turning to you with a resolute look on her face.
“Y/N, do you think you could um… like, you know, ask President Bang if we could arrange for a team outing soon? Like a field day or something, just as a break for the staff. We haven’t had one in so long!”
You tilted your head at them in amusement, “why don’t you guys just ask him? He’s in his office now, I can go tell him you guys wan—“
“No, no! It’s different, you’re the only one that can convince him. We tried last month but he’d just told us he’d think about it.”
You shrugged, nodding, “alright, sure. I’ll go and ask him.”
Making your way back to his office, you’d tried to ignore your nerves as you knocked on the door, opening it to reveal Chan who was on the phone, holding up a finger to you to signal you to wait.
Walking over to him, you’d placed the juice packet on his desk in front of him, earning a smile and a grateful nod from him, before he’d switched back to a serious expression.
“No, yes, of course. We would want nothing more than to ensure a… mutually beneficial agreement between our companies.”
You didn’t have to ask to know who he was talking to. Chan had been trying to negotiate a deal with one of the shareholders, since they had been trying to propose to get Chan to merge with another prominent electronics company in the industry.
You knew Chan was more than annoyed, but he had no choice but to be civil with the president of the company since they did have many shares in the company from the time his uncle was in charge.
“Yes, we can discuss this more in person over lunch, how does that sound? Yep. Alright, bye.” Chan sighed, setting the phone down and leaning his palms on the table, supporting himself with a pained look on his face, looking up at you with a pout.
“I really don’t like him.”
Chan sighed, “same here.”
“Anyway, I’m glad you came here, I kind of wanted to talk to you about something.”
“What?” You asked, watching as he’d fiddled with the papers on his desk.
“Uh… I won’t ask you to handle things outside of work for me anymore.”
Your eyes widened, “is this because of what my friends said? Because I’m honestly fine it doesn’t matter,” you shook your head, seeing him scrunch his nose.
“It may not matter to you but I’m personally not fine with it,” he pressed his lips together. “Really, I mean it. Whatever I ask you to help me with from here on is only gonna be work-related.”
You nodded. Was he trying to distance himself from me? Was it because of the trip?
Your lips pulled into a frown, nodding more to yourself than to him, “okay…uh anyway I wanted to ask you um… the secretaries were wondering if we could have like a field day or something soon? Like just as a small break for the staff?”
Chan shot you a look, knowing they’d asked you to ask him.
“Do you want that?” He asked, earning a nod from you.
“Yeah, I guess. It’d be fun to just have a day for staff bonding and all…”
Chan shrugged, “alright, tell them to go ahead and arrange it.”
Your eyes widened, finding the exchange to have went a lot more smoother than expected.
“Will you be needing me for anything else?”
He looked at you as if in thought, taking his lower lip between his teeth and letting it go, shaking his head, “other than to help me book an appointment with President Kim, nothing else.”
You nodded slowly, exiting the room.
By only asking you for work-related things, you’d expected your work-load to decrease, but it seemed as though you were currently having the most uneventful day you’d ever had. Other than drafting proposals for the President of the electronics company, there wasn’t much on your plate.
You’d figured you would’ve been a lot busier tending to Chan’s requests but the boy had barely come out of his office, the only times he did being to head to the washroom, barely casting a glance in your direction when he walked past you.
As if that wasn’t strange enough, he’d even let you have a longer lunch break, much to Seungmin’s amusement.
“Doesn’t being in the legal team sound a lot more enticing now? At least you’d be doing something there.”
You rolled your eyes, “I still have quite a bit of research to do, so no thank you.”
“Admit it, you’re only staying because you can’t bear to leave Chan.”
You’d almost choked on your drink, patting your chest to regain your composure, “where the hell did you get that idea from?”
Seungmin scoffed, “you act like you didn’t call me a thousand times during the trip to tell me about things he did.”
You’d fallen silent at that, averting your gaze.
“Whatever,” you scoffed.
“Isn’t it misconduct, though? If I were to date him.”
Seungmin shook his head with an amused snort leaving him, “what are we in, the stone ages? Go wild, literally nobody cares. They’ll probably be happy if you manage to get him to be less of a hard-ass,” Seungmin told you, glancing into his cup to see how much drink he had left, “god knows when was the last time he got laid.”
You flushed, shoving Seungmin, “how can you say that?”
“What? It’s true!”
You gave him a dismayed glare, standing up with a sigh as you straightened out your skirt, glancing at the time on your phone.
“I should probably be heading back now, I’ve got work to do,” you gave Seungmin a pointed look, pulling him up from the bench.
“I don’t wanna go back to work,” Seungmin let out a loud strangled sound of protest, his shoes stomping on the wooden panelled floor of the rooftop.
You giggled, a teasing smile on your face, “weren’t you the one saying the legal team was what again? Enticing?”
Seungmin pouted, pressing the elevator button, abruptly flailing his limbs in a mini outburst before straightening up and composing himself.
“Fine, I’m fine. Enjoy your stupid office romance with Chan.”
You rolled your eyes.
Chan had a consultation with the legal team later that afternoon regarding the issue with the shareholder, and you’d been all-too-distracted during the meeting as you thought about what your possible ‘action-plan’ regarding your situation with Chan was.
Taking down notes during the meeting, you’d let your train of thought wander, almost doodling onto your notebook, with one hand supporting your head on the table before you heard the legal advisor from the shareholder’s side speak up, a guttural groan leaving him.
Looking up with an annoyed furrow of your eyebrows, you heard him lean back in his chair, “what does a man need to do to get a drink around here?”
“You,” the man pointed a finger at you, “go and make yourself useful, sweetheart. Get me a cup of coffee.”
Chan’s eyebrows knit into a frown, looking at the legal consultant with clear disdain on his face, looking at you to gauge your reaction. Already expecting you to do what you always did, get up with a smile and come back with the man’s coffee, Chan figured he was too annoyed by it to let you do just that.
About to speak up to the man, you'd shocked Chan when you narrowed your eyes at him, giving him a sweet smile, "sorry, that's not my job here. Since you're not contributing much to the discussion, why don't you make your legs useful and head right over there and get yourself some water."
You huffed, staring him down as he glared at you, directing his gaze to Chan. "Are you just gonna let her talk to me like that? I'd fire such a rude brat if I were you. Who's your supervisor, I'm gonna make sure he hears of this."
Chan did his best to conceal his smile, simply turning his chair ever so slightly to give you a small smile, "that would be me, and I heard it loud and clear. Now, shall we continue with the meeting?"
===
You’d been spending hours at your desk, distractedly doing research as you’d kept trying to peep into Chan’s office to figure out what he was doing, to no avail. (Chan had put the blinds down halfway through the day since he couldn’t stop staring outside at your desk either).
You were technically done with your work, and Chan did mention that you were free to go home once you were done. On any other occasion this would have been considered a miracle, and you wouldn’t have hesitated to go home. But now, there was a nagging feeling in your heart that you couldn’t just leave him here, especially with how stressed out he was because of the business with the shareholder. You didn’t trust him not to spend the whole night here.
Glancing at the time, you saw that it was already past 10, deciding that you would give him some time to make an appearance before you left, just to make sure he was alive and breathing inside his office.
Distracting yourself with replying emails, even playing more than a few rounds of a word-search game on your phone, you figured he would’ve come out by now, but there was still not a sound coming from inside the room.
Once the clock had almost struck 11, you figured you’d might as well go in and check on him for yourself. Going over to the pantry to make a hot drink, you’d walked back to his office, your grip tight on the saucer in your anxiousness.
Inhaling deeply and breathing out with a resolute nod, you knocked on the door of his office, waiting a while only to be met with silence.
Pushing open the door slightly, you’d tried again.
“Mr Bang, is it okay if I come in?”
Upon receiving no response yet again, you’d pushed open the door fully, your eyes widening in realisation when you saw him seated at his desk, fast asleep on the chair.
Walking over to the leather sofa as quietly as you could, you’d picked up the blanket from the sofa, making your way over to where he was, setting the hot drink onto his desk and making to drape the blanket over him.
Only when you were adjusting the blanket did he stir awake, making your fight-or-flight instincts kick in, strangely embarrassed if he were to catch you doing such a gesture for him.
Blinking slowly, his eyebrows furrowed before his gaze had landed on you.
“I thought you’d gone home already?” He pouted, making you fumble to find an excuse why you’d stayed behind.
“Sorry, Mr Bang, I was—”
He gave you a lazy smile, shaking his head, “none of that ‘Mr Bang’, nonsense. How come you haven’t left yet?”
You pressed your lips together firmly, pulling your hands away from the blanket as you tried to straighten up, sighing softly.
“I couldn’t leave… for some reason. I kind of wanted to make sure you were okay, since I barely saw you the whole day.”
Chan’s satisfied smile had grew, nodding at you as if prompting you to continue.
“but I’ll go soon. I guess,” you blurted, “unless like you know, you need me for something, then I’m fine with staying.” You stopped yourself, nodding before you could embarrass yourself any further.
You couldn’t help but let your breath hitch when he’d reached out to grab your hand.
“Thank you, for checking up on me,” he murmured, his close proximity making your gaze dart to his lips, averting your gaze quickly.
“Did you not come out of your office on purpose?” You narrowed your eyes at him, hating the way your heart was doing flips at the way he grinned, his dimples showing cutely.
You were about to pull back out of your own internal panic, but Chan’s grip on your hand was firm.
“I’m sorry, I know I said I wouldn’t ask you for anything that wasn’t work related from now on. But It’s killing me, because you were sitting outside the whole day and I couldn’t do anything about it…” he paused, tilting his head as he searched your expression.
“You can refuse, but I just need you to do one little thing for me,” he murmured,  pulling you forward so you’d ended up seated on his lap, your arms going out to grasp his shoulders to steady yourself.
“What do you need me to do?” You asked, your voice a mere murmur with how the tension was absolutely suffocating you, wanting nothing more than to just close the gap between the both of you.
Chan’s hand went up to your chin, running his thumb over your lower lip as they unconsciously parted, “close your eyes.”
Chan couldn’t help but smirk at the way you’d done so obediently, his hand going to where your neck met your jaw, leaning closer to press his lips against yours.
Almost as if it was second nature, he’d let his other hand grasp your hip, his thumb rubbing the area soothingly. Tilting his head to kiss you deeper, you’d practically sighed into the kiss, your hands wrapping around his neck loosely as you felt him smile into the kiss.
“I’m glad it’s you,” he murmured against your lips, his tongue swiping against your lower lip making you let out a surprised hum, not being able to help your smile as well.
“We should stop,” you pulled away, breathless.
“Why?”
You shook your head, “I could kiss you for hours. It’s already so close to midnight.”
Chan glanced at the clock apathetically, looking at you and shrugging, his hand running up and down your side.
“So be it, then,” he said, pulling you back to meet his lips.
===
“Is it just me, or has President Bang been a lot less moody these days,” Seungmin heard one of his colleagues in the legal team asking her desk-mate, making her colleague nod gravely.
The mention of President Bang had him glancing towards his office, spotting your desk empty and figuring you were inside his office.
“Definitely. At first I thought it was just me, but he’s been a lot less harsh to Y/N as well,” she agreed.
“Don’t you think so, Seungmin?”
And almost as if on cue, you’d exited his office, pulling your hair out of your ponytail to readjust it, looking around as if scanning the area to see if anyone had seen you.
Locking eyes with Seungmin, you shot him a wink, straightening out your blouse as you’d gone back to sit down at your desk.
Seungmin scoffed, not being able to help the smile on his face as he rolled his eyes, “yeah, I think I know why.”

Winter Wonderland Masterlist
Tumblr media
Your legs swing from side to side as you snuggle closer to the pillow in your arms. The black screened TV stares back at your bored eyes lifelessly, as if expecting you to turn it on. You heave another heavy sigh when you receive a text notification from Hajime. You open the message and a wry smile naturally comes to your lip when you see your husband’s messages.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N…. I dont think i can make it to movie night tonight,,, I still have so many work to do at the office”
You correct your position on the couch before facing your phone again and replying to Hajime’s messages.
“It’s okay hub :) dont work too hard now <3”
You close your phone and go back to staring around your empty living room. How many times has this been already, you thought to yourself.
Ever since Hajime got promoted at his workplace, he has been busier than ever. Of course you're happy for him and you appreciate him doing so much to provide for you both but you can't help but to feel lonely sometimes.
Before his promotion, it's already been a tradition for the two of you to have a movie night together so you can relax and spend some quality time as a married couple.
Even still, he does a lot of things to make it up to you, like making you breakfast early in the morning before you wake up, kissing your forehead and cheeks whenever he gets home after work and a lot more. Just to show his affection and love for you even though he's constantly busy and swamped with works.
You check your phone again to see a new message from Hajime. He tells you that you can go to sleep first, since he'll probably be back at a later time. As you type out your reply for him, you can't help but notice the date shown on top of your phone screen.
It's nearing Christmas. Precisely one week from today. You think back on the memories you shared with Hajime from your previous years of spending Christmas Eve with him.
Those moments are your favourite memories with Hajime of them all. It feels so nice to enjoy a meaningful holiday together with someone you love. Your smile fades as you remember back on how busy Hajime has been.
“Maybe we can't celebrate Christmas Eve together this year….”
You can't help but to feel a little bit disappointed at that realization, but you tried to stay positive...for Hajime's sake. You don't want to burden him by asking him to leave his work early just because you wanted to spend some more time with him.
Tumblr media
“What?? You don't think Iwa-ch--- I mean, Hajime-kun can be home for Christmas Eve because he'd be busy with his work??”
You silently sip your bubble tea as you stare at Oikawa's shocked face through the screen of your computer. After fiddling with the straw a bit, you nod your head at his question.
“Y/N-chan, that's ridiculous! No matter how busy he may be, he can't possibly miss spending an important holiday like that with you.”
“I don't know, Oikawa….He's been busy these past few days. And I honestly won't be surprised if he's going to be busy again until Christmas Eve.”
You let out a heavy sigh and Oikawa gives a look of sympathy at you.
You slump back into your chair and take another sip of your drink until there's nothing left in the cup, filling the empty silence between you two. There is a faint sound of people talking in a foreign language from Oikawa's side of the screen.
“I'm not trying to be ungrateful or anything since I know he's working hard for the both of us but….”
You bring your knees from under the table and hug it closer to your face, covering your entire face.
“I just...I don't know if I can handle being alone for Christmas Eve without Hajime.”
You mumble those words through your hidden face, not really caring if Oikawa heard that or not but from the way his soft voice calls out your name, you assume he did.
You hide your pained face in your knees for a lot longer, not noticing the clicking sound coming from behind you. Not until you hear Oikawa calling out your husband's name in a panic do you finally lift your head from the safe spot of your knees.
You stare at Hajime who's still in his suit. He came back rather early today.
Hajime furrows his eyebrows at Oikawa when seeing how you were just hiding your face in your knees a few moments ago.
“Hey, Shittykawa. You weren't trying to make Y/N cry were you?”
The sharp tone of his voice sends a chill down Oikawa's spine and he quickly laughs it off with a smile.
“Hajime-kun, that's mean!! I would never do that to my best friend's wife!”
Hajime puts a hand around your shoulder and lowers his face a bit to match the level of your computer screen before continuing to bicker again with Oikawa.
The scene seems nostalgic to you, bringing your memories again to the times you were in high school. You can't help but to smile softly at them, enjoying their bickering a bit more before deciding that it's getting late and you and Hajime best return to bed by now.
After you close your computer, you turn to Hajime and he immediately plants a kiss on top of your forehead as he always does whenever he comes back.
“You're home early today.”
You comment while wrapping your arms around his neck, resting your head on his chest and taking in the soft beating of his heartbeats.
“Yeah, I finished my work early today.”
He heaves a weary sigh as he replies to you, and you plant another kiss on the bridge of his nose before grinning.
“Well, I'm glad I could snuggle with you tonight while we're sleeping then.”
You both share a kiss before going off to do your night routine.
After you're done with your night routines, you climb onto your bed and snuggle into your soft pillow before pulling out your phone to kill some time while waiting for Hajime to finish his shower.
When you feel a big hand being placed on top of your shoulder, you close your phone and turn back to face Hajime with a soft smile.
“So what were you talking with Oikawa about?”
Hajime starts as the both of you get under the duvet.
“Just catching up and asking him how he's been. He seems to be pretty happy there. Oh, and, it seems that he's still having a hard time trying to not call you Iwa-chan.”
You giggle a bit when remembering back how Oikawa kept referring to Hajime as Iwa-chan like he used to in high school while the both of you were in a video call just now. Now that you're also an “Iwaizumi”, he can't really use the nickname “Iwa-chan” for Hajime anymore.
Hajime hums a bit before nodding.
“Can't say I'm surprised there.”
He pulls you into a hug and you close the distance between you two by snuggling into his chest. You could smell the fresh scent of the body soap he used. It was calming and very like him.
“Something’s bothering you, isn’t it?”
The sudden question almost makes you flinch in his arms. You can’t afford to let him know now but you can’t bring yourself to cover it up and lie to him either. Especially because of how sharp and attentive he can be towards you.
“Yeah… a bit. I was just wondering about that coworker I told you about before.”
Hajime looks down at you and seems thoughtful for a moment.
“You’re still worried about how she would cope with her husband’s death?”
You nod in his chest and tighten your arms around his sturdy build.
Technically, it’s not a lie. You were extremely concerned and worried about your coworker who recently just lost her husband. You can’t help but think, if you were in her place, how would you handle it.
“Losing someone as important as your partner is certainly something that’s hard to cope with. But, knowing that now they’re in a better place up there, watching over you and wanting you to go through life, full of smiles...I think that just makes you feel a lot better. You might not be able to be together now, but one day, you will reunite and you’ll have an eternal span of time to be together.”
You look up at Hajime who’s stroking your hair softly. You didn’t expect him to say all that. Those words just made your heart clench more and you pull on his shirt to lower his face and give him a kiss on his lips.
“Hajime you’re more destructive than I originally thought....”
You bury your face in his chest again, hiding your steaming face and leaving your husband confused.
Tumblr media
Days passed and it’s finally Christmas Eve. Many people are in the shopping district, buying the necessities for their home decor and ingredients for cooking. As always, you had bought everything beforehand so as to avoid the gathering crowd.
It’s nearing evening and you can see many young couples around, sitting together and gazing at the decorations in the shopping district. You can’t help but to look at them with nostalgia. It reminded you so much of your younger days with Hajime.
You shake the thought from your head and continue walking away. You chose to take a detour after you’re done with work today, just so you could take a look at the busy shopping district. Since it’s Christmas Eve today, you thought that you’ll start decorating your house when you get back home.
“Hajime’s probably gonna be busy today and tomorrow too so I can take my time a bit,” you mumble to yourself and continue making your way through the district.
Moments after you said that, you received a text message from Hajime that weighs upon your heart like a heavy rock.
”Babe, I’m so sorry I can’t make it home before 12…. Seems like we’ll miss spending time together for this year’s Christmas Eve. Im so sorry again, i know how much you’ve been looking forward to Christmas Eve every year but the work just keep on piling up. And for Christmas tomorrow too...I’m so sorry.”
You thought that maybe if he can’t make it for Christmas Eve, you would have had time to spend on Christmas the next day. You have to accept the fact that this year, there’s just no other way other than to spend it alone and being wrapped up in your blanket. You honestly much prefer Hajime’s strong arms to wrap you up, though.
Christmas Eve is considered to be one of the most popular days to celebrate as a couple and you truly enjoyed spending it with Hajime every year. That’s why you value the celebration so much and you honestly don’t want to celebrate it with anyone else other than him.
Although your main concern right now is more towards the fact that he’s been working too much lately. You’re definitely worried about his health more than anything right now.
“It’s really okay bb! Im grown up now and i know we cant celebrate Christmas eve together every year :) Im just worried that youve been working too much and havent had much rest lately :(( make sure to take care of yourself u hear me ??!”
You see him replying with a promise that he will, and that somehow put you at ease. You tell him you'll reach home soon and send a last 'I love you' message before turning off your phone and picking up your pace.
Tumblr media
“I’m home….”
You open the lock and step inside the empty and dark house.
But something feels wrong.
At the center of the living room, you can make out several colourful light bulbs hanging from a Christmas tree.
“Huh….that’s weird. I didn’t remember putting anything there….”
In fact, you haven't even started decorating yet. It makes you wonder if you have decorated the living room while you were asleep.
“But I'm pretty sure it was empty around here before I left for work….”
You look around your house once more and sure enough, it's filled to the brim with Christmas decoration. Your heart flutters at the sight, completely disregarding the odd fact that the house has already been decorated even though you don't remember doing so.
All of a sudden, you feel a pair of strong arms around your waist, pulling you closer before all the lights in the house are turned on.
“Merry Christmas, Y/N.”
The soft voice of Hajime coming from behind startled you a bit, but that doesn't stop the tears that're welling up in your eyes.
“Hajime?! But-- I thought that--”
When you feel his grip around you loosens, you turn around to face him, not really realizing the tears that are threatening to fall down your eyes.
“Surprise?”
He says with a shrug and a grin before embracing you once again. You bury your face in his chest and before you know it, you're already starting to let the tears and a few hiccups out.
Hearing you crying, Hajime quickly releases you with his eyes wide, inspecting your face while you try to hide it in your hands.
“Y/N, what's wrong?”
You can hear his panicked voice calling for you and your hiccups slowly turn into a soft laughter.
“S-sorry...it's just, I really wasn't expecting this and…..All this time I've just felt so lonely thinking that you won't be able to spend Christmas with me but… but this surprise really caught me off guard and my tears just started...”
You try to explain through your tear stained face with a smile. Hearing that explanation, Hajime releases a relieved sigh and cups your cheek in his hands before moving it closer to plant a soft kiss on your lips.
“Sorry I made you feel that way, honey.”
You shake your head and give him another kiss on the lips. You both stare at each other for a moment before letting out a soft giggle.
As he leads you to the dining room, he explains to you how he's been busy working overnight the days before so that he can get an early leave for Christmas Eve. He wants to make a surprise Christmas celebration with you so he took it upon himself to decorate and cook all the food before you came back home from work.
“Hajime, I really appreciate you doing this for me….”
You stroke his face and bring it closer but all of a sudden you flick your fingers to his forehead, thankfully not too hard so your fingers aren't too damaged from the hit.
“But what did I tell you about working too hard, hmmm?? You better be getting enough rest after this or else!”
Your husband just looks at you with a deadpan expression before heaving a small sigh.
“It's okay, I don't have to go to work tomorrow so I plan to rest anyway.”
He sneaks in another kiss, completely catching you off guard and almost making you forgive him right away if not thanks to your strong wife's willpower.
“Oh but...tomorrow's Christmas so….”
You look at him again and a smile automatically graces your lips in a matter of seconds.
“We get to spend the whole day together on Christmas then.”
You hum those words out, and skip your way into the dining room with a smiling Hajime following closely behind you.
“Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.”
That night, the Iwaizumi household is filled with laughter as they dine and chat together, spending their time and valuing each other's company as a happy married couple.
The End

Hey lovie how about Tom being woken up in the middle of the night by his 8 month pregnant wife because she’s uncomfortable and he helps her🥺
Tumblr media
A/N: oof husband/dad!tom is a total killer and my cup of tea ☺️🥰❤️ (i’m a romantic and emotional mess alright 😂) but you ask for a cute request to bless us all, and so here it is ✨ stay safe darling 💖💗
‘Stay safe, Cheer up’ blurb event
The rain slowly drops against the window of the bedroom, the light sound resonating in Tom’s ears as he sleeps after another exhausting day of filming. Recently his schedule has been hectic as he wanted to finish rather quickly everything that had to be done, and so to spend more time with you for a particular reason.
But now, you’ve been moving in bed for at least a solid hour, if not more, rolling from side to side to desperately get some sleep. Nothing at all. You couldn’t find a comfortable position to fall asleep, any of them bothering you after a minute or so.
At some point Tom wakes by your moves and a constant creasing of the sheets and mattress. And he just knows it will be another hard night for you. So he turns his body towards you to find you already facing him, your usual shiny eyes now completely sleep deprived and tensed facial features.
“Can’t sleep, darling?” Tom gently whispers, his hands brushing some strands of hair off your forehead.
“No, I just feel... uncomfortable, I guess?”
As you turn to settle on your back, Tom can’t help but stare at your pregnant belly hiding under the covers to keep you warm. Your husband would have never thought being possible to love you more than he already does, and indeed. When you shared your vows three years ago, he knew you would be an amazing wife but now, you were perfectly wearing that motherhood glow like you were meant for it since the beginning. And Tom loves it so much he just wants to cherish you more.
Being now eight months pregnant with your first child, the exciting idea of being parents was soon followed by all the struggles that go with it, one of them being close to your due date as with your little one gets more and more active. And so feeling uneasy about whatever you’re doing or trying to do.
“This little one’s been moving quite a lot recently” you say chuckling, a light smile on your face while caressing your round belly.
Even tired you were such a pleasant sight for Tom’s eyes, pregnancy being a big bonus to the equation. And surely, the brunette can’t leave his wife to herself to deal with this much lack fo comfort.
So Tom stands from the bed to start rummaging through every wardrobes and drawers before exiting the bedroom, leaving you intrigued by his sudden behaviour. When he comes back, his arms are just full of pillows he found around the house and simply drops them all of your bed at your feet, making you giggle as he clumsily lost two on his way.
“Lift your back, darling, I’m gonna make you comfy.”
True to his words, Tom begins to build something like a cocoon by just gathering nicely all the pillows against the headboard for you to lay your back on. Now half sitting half laying, you let out a content sigh as you seem to finally feel at ease. All your muscles relax at once against your new fluffy mountain for the night.
Satisfied with his work, Tom doesn’t waste any more time and jumps back into bed, making you laugh at his childishness when the mattress starts bouncing a bit under you. Your husband pulls the covers up both your body before getting closer, sliding an arm around your shoulder to lovingly press you on his torso.
His free hand goes under the covers and lower down to your belly, slowly rubbing circles on it as he may hope to feel your soon-to-be-born son wiggle in there. Your left hand soon follows to rest on top of his, both your wedding rings clinking against each other at the contact.
“Better now, darling?” Tom asks while kissing your temple.
“Definitely better, you’re the best Tommy” you answer back, eyes already closing as you relax against his warm body.

Saving Grace - Part 11
Summary: Steve leaves you and your son to go back to Peggy unaware your pregnant.
Your heartbroken and struggling without Steve until Bucky Barnes steps up to help you out. With you and Bucky growing closer everyday will he be your saving Grace?
Tumblr media
I woke up when Bucky leaned over and kissed me, opening my eyes i saw that he was already dressed.
"Where you going?" I asked sleepily reaching for his hand and trying to pull him back to bed, he chuckled but didn't move at all.
"Im going down to the station with Sam to talk to that guy who broke in. I want know who he is and why they were here"
"Can you wait for me? i dont wanna be here alone..."
"Your not alone doll, Wanda is already downstairs" he smiled brushing my hair back from my face and pressing a kiss to my lips "i'll be back as soon as i can. Try and get some more sleep, I love you"
"I love you too Buck" i smiled up at him, then watched as he left the room looking ready to murder someone.
I waited until i heard the front door close before getting out of bed and pulling on one of Bucky's sweaters over my shorts and tank i had slept in. There was no way i could stay in bed knowing Wanda was downstairs with the kids, Grace would need nursing soon anyway. I caught a glimpse of my face in the bathroom mirror and shook my head, my lip was puffy with a bluish/purple hue around the edge, the split starting to scab over some already and under my left eye looked black/purple.... great! I let out a sigh and made my way downstairs.
"Morning" i greeted Wanda with a smile, she walked straight over to me and wrapped me up in a hug, i could tell she was being careful trying not to hurt me.
"Hey sweetheart, how you feeling today?" She asked as she squeezed me a little tighter.
"Aching, i forgot how much it hurts clocking a punch to the face and having your body cut up. How did i used to do this on a daily basis?.... plus I'm a little shaken you know?" I shrugged.
"I totally get it, thats why I'm here to look after you while you rest! And dont you worry, no one is getting in here while im here so go sit down and relax. Breakfast is almost ready, Harrison has been feed and I have bathed him. Lil miss Grace is also bathed and she has had one of her bottles from the fridge, Bucky said you had expressed some milk just incase"
"Wow, you've been busy Wan" i chuckled grabbing some Advil and a glass of water before taking a seat at the table.
"Bucky helped" she smiled "i cant take all the credit. His so good at all this domestic stuff, who would have thought huh?"
"I know right?" I nodded as Wanda placed two plates of pancakes on the table and sat across from me "these smell amazing!"
"Good, then i expect to see an empty plate mama" she teased.
"Hey Wan?" I asked after a few minutes and one pancake successfully eaten.
"Yeah?"
"Can we maybe go to the compound? I dont really wanna be in the house. It feels.... wrong somehow. I know its stupid but...."
"No it not! Its perfectly fine. We can go once you've finished eating and got dressed. Just make sure to tell Bucky where your going or he'll freak out".
Tumblr media
Once we were at the compound i felt like i could relax knowing no one would be able to break in here.....maybe id ask Bucky if we could stay here for a few days. Id already run into Bruce and Clint so far....both seemed to be staying close by, Clint had always been like my older brother, looking out for me and was always so protective. He was currently sat with Harrison playing with his toy cars (sound effects and everything!) while holding Grace in one arm. It was clear Clint was a father of three and could handle both kids at once! Wanda was asleep in the armchair and I was sat on the sofa with a hot cup of tea watching on smiling when Steve walked in. He cleared his throat making his presence known and i turned to face him giving him a smile.
“Hey”
"Hey"
"Come join us if you want"
"You sure? I dont wanna interrupt..."
"Its fine Steve just come sit down"
"Okay" he smiled and quickly sat at the opposite end of the sofa i was on.
"You here looking for Sam?" I asked him making conversation.
"No, I'm actually rejoining the team. Its why i was here last night actually, i had to hand in some paperwork"
"Oh......picking up the shield again?"
"No, thats Sam's job now" he chuckled shaking his head "I'm still taking a step back but i'll be around if they need me. Im gonna be training the new recruits to start with"
"Its what your good at Steve, I'm glad your finding your place here again"
"Me too"
"About last night, i just wanna say thank you again. For getting to us as quick as you did..... i dread to think what he would've done if you hadn't shown up when you did"
"But i did. I know i messed everything up with us Y/N, but you and Harrison will always be my family and i'll do everything in my power to keep you both safe"
"I know" i nodded "things will never be like they were with us but I'm hoping we can try and be friends, for Harrisons sake"
"Id like that a lot"
"We're having a party next week for Harrison's 4th Birthday if you want to come?"
"Really?" he asked with wide eyes and a dopey smile spread across his face.
"Yeah, your his dad Steve you should be there"
"Count me in. I'll definitely be there"
"Good"
"Thank you sweetheart, you have no idea how much that means to me"
"Daddy! Come play cars with me!" Harrison called over making us both laugh as he held out various coloured cars in his little hands.
"Yeah come on Steve, i need to get up off this floor now.... I'm too old for this" Clint said struggling to his feet still holding Grace.
Steve took Clints place and was soon crashing cars and making exploding noises making Harrison laugh. After a few minutes i watched as Harrison launched himself at Steve before settling in his lap showing him all the different cars and what ones were his favourites.
Clint had handed Grace back to me so he could go use the bathroom and get something to eat, i was now on the sofa with Grace laying on my chest fast asleep. I could feel my eyes start to flutter close as sleep tried to take me at last, i had only slept for an hour or so after what happened and now it was catching up to me.
I woke up when i felt something shifting my arms.... my eyes shot open only to look up at a grinning Bucky as he carefully took Grace from my arms and placed her in her Bassinet.
"When did you get back?" I asked rubbing at my eyes.
"Just now" he sat next to me and pulled me into his arms "hows your day been?"
"Its been okay, i felt better being here. Would it be okay of we stayed for a while? You've still got your room right?"
"Yeah doll thats fine, I've still got it"
"Good. So did you get anything from the guy who broke in?"
"Not really, looks like they were just your standard home intruders. Chancers who just thought they'd try their luck.... said someone tipped them off that the house would be empty. We cant find any ties to anything bigger than that"
"Thats good news, still doesnt change the fact i dont wanna be in that house anymore. I killed a man in our bedroom Buck!"
"I know"
"I think I'm gonna put the house on the market. Find something a little bigger now theres gonna be two kids running around soon"
"Whatever you want darlin" he kissed me quickly with a smile.
"You'll help me look right? I mean it'll be your home too"
"Of course. We'll find the perfect place".
"Good. Hey, where's Harrison?"
"Steve and Sam took him outside to throw a ball around, he was getting restless"
"Steve and i had a chat earlier. I said we should probably try to be friends for Harrisons sake you know?" I shrugged "he was over the moon Buck. Im just so sick of the fighting between us..... i invited him to Harrisons birthday party"
"I hope we can sort this all out doll, it'd be nice for us all to get along again. I know we both have our issues with Steve but life's too short to hold a grudge like this" he agreed pressing a kiss to my temple.
"Maybe we should still go to the cabin this weekend just the two of us?" I looked up at him "i know the kids are safe here and Steve can spend some time with Harrison... what do you think?"
"I think I'm game if you are?"
"Okay lets do it then, i'll speak to Wanda when she wakes up see if shes still okay with it. I think they wore her out this morning she's been asleep since we got here" i chuckled looking over at the redhead who was buried under a huge purple fluffy blanket "you think she'll be okay for a whole weekend with them?"
"Yeah, she'll have help from the others she wont entirely have them on her own"
"Yeah your right" i nodded covering my mouth as a yawn escaped, i felt a bit better knowing she'd have the team around to help out.
I had just started to fall asleep again when Grace started to whine a little.... guess it was time for a feed.
"Someone hungry hey darlin?" Bucky cooed picking Grace up and trying to sooth her "you wanna go to my room for some privacy while you feed her?"
"Yeah, sounds good... lead the way".

I read every single Emerald fic on FFN so you don’t have to
There are 66 fics with Emerald listed in the tags.
First, I took out any fic that was either not in English or actually gameverse, leaving me with 38 fics-- though I will say, the Spanish fics look like they slap
After filtering out “everyone appears” fics (I skimmed them to make sure) I was left with 26 fics. (While I would like to include “everyone appers” fics, I do not have the time nor motivation to read 30,000 words of derring-do and melodramatic heroics seventeen times in a row for Emerald to show up, deliver 2 lines, shoot something, and leave)
From there, I sorted them into various categories based on whether Emerald was a BG character or not, whether the fic had romance, whether Emerald was actually PART of that romance, etc. Then, finally, I was ready.
Below the cut are the reviews of all twenty six fanfictions!
Category 1: BG Emerald      Every fic needs side characters, whether to provide extra voices or comedic relief or just a foil for the MCs. These fics don’t feature Emerald in a huge capacity, but he’s there and that’s what matters to me. I came into this site expecting anything: third wheel Rald, wingman Rald, Im-only-here-to-complain-about-your-flirting-Rald... I found everything but! It seems the most cliche writers among us don’t like using the Emerald tag, bc the few Frantic-with-BG-Emerald fics with I did find turned out to be spectacular! I’m pleasantly surprised and impressed.
1. That Special Someone - Team Cap      Cap is on this list like 30 times so get used to it. This fic is mostly about Ruby refusing to shut up about Sapphire and how much he loves her (and how Emerald finds it infuriating). The details of this fic are super cute and the way Ruby and Emerald interact added 3 years to my lifespan, so I highly recommend this one if you want a nice, relaxing read involving the Hoenn boys (dare I say best boys?). In short, read this fic and all of Cap’s other fics while you’re at it.
2. A Picnic - Team Cap      Oh look. It’s Cap again. This fic, surprise surprise, is also good, and while it’s a little more basic than the others (Emerald runs into Ruby/Sapphire at a park and they mess around), it’s still cute and I still love it! Not really much else to say here... but the fic is good and I recommend if you’re in for some light domestic reads.
3. High Hopes and Checkered Skies - aromatisse      I’ll be honest: my general opinion of frantic fics with BG Emerald is... low. A lot of them shoehorn my poor boy into whatever the plot requires at the cost of his characterization but this fic really surprised me in the best way! This one features Sapphire bringing Ruby to a “special place” the two of them arguing, and Emerald having to patch things up (mature Emerald? I don’t believe it!!). I found this fic while making this list and immediately bookmarked it bc THIS SHIT GOOD FAM. Please read this.
4. Alpha and Omega- Ruby and Sapphire's Thoughts - Shadoweevee70     Not much to say about this to be honest. It’s exactly what it says on the tin. No plot, no development, not even 500 words. Emerald has a line. I think two.
5. Boundaries - Team Cap     This fic hurt my heart. Though it focuses on Wally’s one-sided crush on Sapphire, there’s a touch of Emerald in there acting as Wally’s emotional support buddy, which tells me that either Emerald has matured or Hoenn is just devoid of emotionally stable individuals. Regardless, this fic is heartbreaking and beautiful but contains very little Emerald, so therefore I have very little to review. In short... not a lot of Rald, but you should read it anyway.
6. Summer Days - eonentity      Crystal and Silver go on a “date” and Gold + Emerald try and stop them. It’s cute, it’s honestly kind of creepy if you think about it, and it involves Emerald. While the premise is kind of sketch, the banter between Gold and Emerald is incredible and I really like the general progression of the plot (especially the ending!) This is a very cute fic if you’re looking for something simple to read. Highly recommend, utilizes Emerald as a character really well!
Category 3: MC Emerald (gen)       This... this is my bread and butter baby. These fics run the gamut from friendship to domestic to drabbles to angst and everything in between, but the gist of it is that it includes Emerald as a focus without pairing him off. Not to say this is my favorite category... but it is. I’m biased, sue me.
1. Family Inclusion - Team Cap      They say to leave the best for last, but I disagree. You’ll realize pretty quickly that Cap is one of my favorite authors to appear in this tag, and this fic is one of her best! I’m focusing on Chapter 3 (that’s the part with Emerald) where he has to entertain a shiny baby Ralts while Ruby and Sapphire are away (everybody say awwww). The fic is stupid cute, and while it doesn’t really offer much in terms of character development or stakes, it’s the type of domestic fluff you can read over and over and still find just precious each and every time. Also... Emerald takes care of a baby pokemon how can you NOT love that. Seriously. Look at this.
2. At the Amusement Park - Team Cap       Oh wow, another Cap fic I really like. What a surprise. I’m astounded /s. This fic focuses on Emerald’s dilemma of being short at a place where height restrictions mercilessly mock the vertically challenged and how he deals with it with the “help” of Ruby and Sapphire. Though there is background Frantic (which shouldn’t really come as a surprise), this fic mostly focuses on Emerald’s insecurities and his relationship with the trio. It’s introspective, it’s wholesome, I’ve read it six or seven times (I lost count). Regardless, it’s good, and like every other Cap fic on this list, I demand you read it. That is a threat.
3. Frantic Fight - Puph17      Any fic that drops a line like “margarine is in vogue” within the first three lines is immediately propelled to my top ten fics of all time list and this is clearly no exception. Despite the name, this isn’t franticshipping, just Ruby and Sapphire bickering and Emerald / Wally being annoyed about it. This fic, hands down, is one of the funniest pieces of fanfiction I’ve ever read on this godforsaken site. I am begging you to read this fic, if not for Emerald with a megaphone for the sheet amount of laughter it will cause. This fic may not be deep but it sure as hell is hysterical. ... Well, what are you waiting for? Why are you still here? Go read the fic, we’re wasting daylight.
4. Weird War - storm-aurora      This is another fic I think I’ve probably read a dozen times and refuse to get tired of. Emerald and Sapphire are having a paintball fight in Slateport market, and I literally could not ask for a better friendship fic. The writing is high quality, the characters are very accurate (altho bc this is fanfic it doesn’t matter all that much), the friendships feel real, they’re having a paintball war.... everything about this is ideal. This is the quality content I live for. Please PLEASE read this fic, you’ll be happy you did. Close this tab and go read it immediately for your sake and mine.
5. Skydrop - ayasato      Not a lot of people write about Emerald. The ones that do, for whatever reason, seem to do it very, VERY well. This fic, which is so long it might as well be considered an epic, is probably the piece de resistance of Emerald friendship fics. While not as snappy or funny or domestic as some of the other fics in this list, it more than makes up for it with a beautifully built slowburn friendship between Emerald and Sapphire, my favorite take on his living situation I’ve ever seen, and enough introspection to make your high school English teacher swoon. This fic is a must for any Emerald fan, even if it takes like an hour to read in full. It may be long but it’s magnificent.
6. Croissant Kings - ayasato      The fact that this fic is discontinued is irrefutable proof that this is the timeline god abandoned. Emerald and Pearl running a croissant stand is quite possibly the single most absurd fic concept I’ve ever heard but... it works. Somehow? It works. This fic is perhaps, hands down, one of the most ridiculously entertaining concepts and executions I have ever seen in my life. Everything about it, from the setup to the writing to just Emerald being Emerald is so raw and so ridiculous that I smile fondly when I think of it. I wish there were more than 3 chapters, however...
7. Perfect - Micah Debrink      I’m gonna be straight with y’all: I don’t like this fic. I’m not too sure what the plot is, and it was certainly an interesting read, but not my cup of tea. It’s good, don’t get me wrong; the writing is mature, very well paced, and overall well-written, but something about the characterizations is just not vibing with me. Thus, I’m not gonna pretend I thought this fic was perfect (har har) but I will say it’s something you should give a try. I’m admittedly a very biased party, so maybe you’ll enjoy this fic more than I did. For sure give it a shot, because maybe you’ll like it more than I did. This ain’t my jam, but it’s quality preserves nonetheless.
8. Roost - ayasato      This is short and sweet and may have some Sapphire/Emerald crushing if you squint, but overall a fun read. Very short, very good, give it a shot. This author is very high quality and that’s that on that.
9. One Day - Jian-Kenkoku      This is short yet again but has a super interesting (if poorly explained) premise: Emerald gets adopted by Gold / his mom! This short oneshot details his first day, and while it is a tad rushed, it gives me the Emerald family content I have been sorely lacking. Not sure if this is one of my “reread until my eyes bleed” fics, but it’s certainly worth the trouble of reading through! It’s very cute and I recommend!
10. Emerald: Lying to Himself - reminiscent-afterthought        Very poetic and extremely well-written, but less than 200 words. This fic took me thirty seconds to read and it feels like time well spent. Please read it, even if for the sole reason that it’s super short. It’s also a super poetic way to talk about the Emerald arc.
11. Go Away Gold! - jayfeatherelle      Ah yes, the “little brother enlists the help of a prankster to keep apart his sister and her boyfriend” trope... This may be cliche, but it sure as hell was enjoyable! Emerald enlists the help of Meddler Blue (side note: where did this trope come from bc she never does anything in canon that would be qualified as meddling other than just messing with Red at any given opportunity). Anyway, this fic is adorable, has a lesson at the end (that surprised me), had a really mature conclusion, and gave me Blue / Emerald friendship I really didn’t know I needed. In short? This is a cliche done well. It’s predictable, sure, but that’s not a bad thing! If anything, it’s a great nostalgic read.
12. What if: Emerald never met Crystal - LetEveryoneOveraRip        This fic stole the last little bit of hope I didn’t even know I still had. You thought it couldn’t get more violent or sad? You were wrong. Everyone dies. This fic made me sad for like 45 minutes and I feel emotionally manipulated. I guess I should have seen this coming. Not much else to say except that this fic made me really sad, which, of course it did, but I still feel cheated out of a happy ending regardless.
13. Emerald Owner’s Guidance and Maintenance Manual - Pokerescue18    Nothing happens in this fic. It’s literally an instruction manual and it’s well written and all but also has no plot. It is quite literally what it says in the title, so perhaps this should have been obvious but even still, I was left confused after reading this. I think I need a nap.
14. Through My Eyes - Kaith1    Relationship angst that hurt my heart. This is less than 400 words so again, took me only around a minute to leave but the emotional impact scarred me for life. Very well done! This fic details Emerald’s inner turmoil as Gold and Crystal get together and Emerald worries he’ll be abandoned again. While I do feel like Emerald hating the two of them for getting together is a little ehhh, this fic does a great job of showing why Emerald would be so upset about it and his inner motivations for being so hurt by it. While I don’t agree, the author made me “get it” a little more, and for that I say bravo!
15. At the Fair - IanDonyer      This one is short and focuses on Emerald meeting a security guard at a Halloween fair kinda deal. It’s also one of the first Emerald fics on FFN, released far before the remakes even came out! While obviously it doesn’t contain much in terms of character development, it also was written with only the Emerald arc to go off of-- so I can easily overlook any character inconsistencies. That being said, this fic is really cute and uses the OC pov really well! If you’re looking for a blast from the past, check this fic out!
Category 4: Emerald shipping fics      On the rare occasion where the blue moon hangs melancholy in the sky, the planets align, and starlight rains down from the heavens... someone ships Emerald with another character. Romantically. Not sure where the aversion to shipping him came from, but for whatever reason everyone prefers him single. These authors, these brave knights, they’re changing that. Hell yeah for romance.
1. Left Out - RedCharmeleon       Not to be like “this fic is painfully straight...” but yknow. Emerald is upset at Gold/Crystal’s wedding because he’s the only single one and needs a girlfriend. There’s also a “what are you, gay?” joke in here, which soured my mood for the rest of the fic. I’ll be honest, I never really liked the “all male protag / female protag ships and then taking Silver, Pearl, and Emerald and pairing them off with OCs” deal, so I’m heavily biased against this fic, but the writing is decent and the plot is fine. If you enjoy this style of plot (everyone needs to be paired up, blushing galore, love at first sight, everyone acts like they stumbled out of a hallmark movie script) then this is the fic for you!
2. Glances - Diemerald      A collection of drabbles about Emerald and Wally becoming friends and falling in love. I’ve read it seven times now. While the plot is a tad disjointed because of the format, this author really NAILS Emerald’s character. Emerald (and Wally) show a lot of growth between the snippets and god it’s so beautiful I need more of it. Please read this fic. Tell your neighbors about this fic. This fic is fantastic.
2. Revolvershipping Cuddles - Charmerruby     You’re never gonna guess what this one is about. It’s very cute but it’s literally just fluff. Very cute, like marshmallows. This is kinda short so there isn’t really much to say, but I will am starving for Emeruby content, so though this be but little, it be fierce. And fluffy. Did I mention cute? This fic is so filled with love my heart grew three sizes after reading it. I could keep calling it adorable, but I don’t think that’s productive. Spend the time reading this fic instead.
3. Misunderstandings - Pokeluv101      Reading this was very weird because I know the person who made the OC the story is centered around. Reading even the names thrust me so violently back into my middle school days I can almost taste the edge. It’s very good, and I suggest giving it a read even if you’re not a huge dexholder/OC fan. Also tsun Emerald is good Emerald.
4. Unexpected - Diemerald     A fic about Emerald and Yellow falling in love. Not exactly my cup of tea so I skimmed it but this author is really good so it’s a great fic, even if it’s not to my tastes. I suggest giving it at least a once over because this author worked hard and I respect them, even if this isn’t really... my thing. Check it out!
5. Big Changes - Aquatales     You know how I said I would read every Emerald fic? I lied. This one is about Emerald getting genderbent and immediately shipped with Wally against his will by his friends. Reading the summary gave me hives and I could not bring myself to read it in full.
Final Thoughts      While I’ll be honest and say that I did find some of the the cliche fics I was expecting, I was incredibly and happily surprised to discover that more often than not, the people who bother to publish Emerald fics really care about his character and publish some pretty high quality stuff, and that’s pretty damn cool. There are shipping fics, BG Emerald fics, MC Emerald fics, and most of them are pretty fantastic! Way to go spe fandom writers, you did my boy justice, all..... 10 of you.

Thinking about my lockdown goals still. I just weighed myself and I'm on track to be the same weight again tomorrow as I was today, or possibly a bit more. The only weight that counts in my charts etc is first thing in the morning, and I kind of take a moving average to account for fluctuations. This is just before bed so it doesn't count, but I can use it to estimate what I'll be in the morning. And I don't like it. I know weighing every day is bad but I can't handle not knowing, so I at least usually limit myself to once a day. I shouldn't have weighed myself. It might be because I just drank about 500ml so I'm more hydrated. I hope it's that. But it could also be the gain I was expecting yesterday that I was glad I didn't have, or maybe my body responded badly to what I ate today and I gained and have to eat less than I even thought, or who fuckin knows. I need to stop focusing on it and just make my plan and relax so I can go to sleep and then just see where I'm at in the morning. But my brain is a pos. So.
Anyway. Potential goals for lockdown 2, starting Thursday:
- Maybe a step goal? I would need to see where I'm at and then add more. I have no idea how many I do currently so I don't know what's realistic. So if I do this it might have to start later than the rest, if I get a step counter. I used to have a phone app but I don't know how accurate it is and I don't always have my phone on me. A wat h style one would be better...
- Drink celery juice every day first thing, at least 5x a week but preferably all 7. It's so much effort to make the juice and clean the juicer and all so I'll give myself leeway to not do it sometimes, but I should try to do it every day, no fewer than 5.
- Hydration: there's the 500ml celery juice, then I need to have 1l mineral water (I can't stand tap water), and in the evening I'll have 500ml sugar free squash or 2 cups of herbal tea. If I don't have the celery juice, I add another 500ml squash or tea. More is better but that has to be my baseline. I really struggle to drink enough that isn't alcohol or caffeine so this will still be a challenge.
- Fibre... I know this is a good thing to have and all but I don't really know where to get it from. Unless I do a bean diet. Which I can do but it's so boring and idk. Maybe I should try to eat at least one serving of beans a day and just eat as much as I can elsewhere. I'll think about this one tomorrow.
- Low impact cardio: do this for an hour when I get up, before making celery juice and other breakfast. I know this doesn't burn as many calories as high intensity stuff but with my health being so bad sometimes it's difficult to get up and do something proper without feeling like I'm gonna pass out. Sometimes I end up stuck in bed because my body crashes. So low impact is good, and I'd like to do at least half an hour assuming I'm able to, preferably an hour. I find this makes me feel better throughout the day because I haven't sat around doing nothing, and it does help me lose weight and my waist gets smaller. So this is one of the most important things. I need to try for every day, but will allow for one day off. Hopefully my health will allow that.
- Strength training I'm going to stagger. In wk1 maybe I'll just do a few sit-ups or whatever here and there. I need to focus on doing everything else and there's kinda no point me having muscle tone if it's covered in fat so it's not my top priority. Week 2 I want to do 2x butt and hip toning workouts, probably from Chloe Ting's hourglass program. In week 3 I'll make that 3x a week, and also add in 2x back workouts by BrittneBabe. In week 4 I'll do 3 of each. It'll be a lot so I don't think I can commit to doing it all from the get go, but I do want to get there eventually.
- Bike/spin: this will rely heavily on my being able to do it physically. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to do it for or how often but I'd like to aim for at least 20mins per session, up to an hour; at least 2x in wk1, 3x in wk2, 4x each in wk3 and wk4. This can make me super weak and also it always hurts my butt, so if I need to not do this that's okay, but then I should do something else instead like another low impact cardio or a walk or something, and for longer than I would have been on the bike. I haven't done this in a long time so it'll be difficult but it's the calorie burn I want.
- Flexibility: idk about this one maybe 4x a week? Im so much less flexible than I used to be and I want to get it back, especially if I'm doing other stuff that can make your muscles stiff. I need to find a decent program. Will think on this tomorrow.
- Calories: I'll make myself a schedule with varying intakes from 1200 to 1500 in a day. I've worked really hard to get my metabolism up so I can eat that kind of amount without gaining weight, and of course now I've gained weight anyway for other reasons, but I don't want my metabolism to fuck up again any more. I wanted to go 600-900 but that's where it fucks up. I should still be able to lose weight, given where I'm starting and the physical activity. I'll adjust later if I have to but I think I should at least try to stay around that level. Idk. I'll probably have to adjust this as I go to some extent. The exception will be cheat days which will be at least a week apart - they help me break through plateaus and stay motivated etc so I have to have those allowed, but if I don't feel like I need it then I won't do it and I'll just save it for another time. Just always at least a week apart.
- Alcohol: this one is the most difficult because if it was that easy I'd just not drink at all. And various stressors make it difficult to go without. Sometimes alcohol is the only thing that can take me away from a trauma response or make me not want to kill myself or not feel as horrible in my body or any number of things. Sometimes I really just can't cope without it. But I definitely need to get more alcohol free days in and I won't be able to do any of the other stuff without it. Exercise is near impossible, I'll get sick and exhausted, I'll crave heavy foods, I'll need them probably, and my liver will just stop burning any fat anyway. I have to cut it back. I got to once a week a few months ago so I want to try to get back there. Ideally I want a 2 week break. Well...ideally I want to go the whole time alcohol free but like I said...so yeah. Currently I'm going to let myself drink on Wednesday if I need to and then after that it'll be no more than once a week hopefully. But the main rule is only if I really really need to. I guess it can coincide with my cheat days. Idk. Gonna think more on this too, and it'll depend on whether I get through the next few days etc.
It feels like a lot...it's not that I haven't done it before or done similar, but my health is so bad it's so much more difficult now, and I think I'll get overwhelmed if I do too much at once. I don't want to set myself up to fail. I hate failure. It makes me feel like giving up. So I shouldn't set myself too much to do at first,which is why I've staggered some of it from week to week. I also want to come up with a more precise margin for error with some of it, so if I don't feel like I can do it I don't end up feeling too bad. I have to remember that anything is better than nothing. And at the end of this month, I can evaluate what I managed and what I didn't, and set myself new goals just a little bit more challenging than these, and go from there.
I really need to lose weight. And I really need to stop drinking so much. I need to do this. I need to go to sleep now and get up tomorrow and spend the day and the day after preparing for this 4-week lockdown, and in going to try as hard as I can for those 4 weeks and then regroup. It's temporary. It's not forever. I just have to do these 4 weeks.

Carisi x Reader: taking care of him when he’s sick (sfw)
A/N: kinda long, got a bit carried away but enjoy!
Tumblr media
he was blowing his nose all night which kinda kept you up but who cares, “i feel bad he’s sick” you thought.
morning rolls around, you know he’s gonna fight you on going to work. you wake up to him getting dressed. which would be pretty sexy if he wasn’t also practically coughing up a lung.
“honey just stay home, you are way too sick to go in.”
“nah doll it’s ok, it’s probably just gonna be paperwork today which I can manage.”
“please just stay home, so I can take care of you.”
“no please don’t guilt me into staying home, i really need to get stuff done. I'm not even that sick.” famous last words.
“ok, but promise me if you get worse you come home, I know it’s just a cold, but you need to rest. make sure to drink lots of water.”
“alright, alright i gotta go. I should be home for dinner, if you want I can pick up some chinese on the way home from the place that you like?”
“you are too good to me, sonny carisi”
“I know doll, you deserve it. love ya bye!” right after he left you called your friend Barba.
“hey raf I was wondering if I could ask your mom for a favor?”
“weird way to start this call, but shoot.”
“sonny’s kinda sick and your mother's soup is incredible. the first time I had it, I was cured of things I didn't even know I had. I wanted to get some for sonny since he insisted on going to work today. is that alright?”
“yes of course. it just so happens I'm going to see her before I head into the office, I will ask her. anything else?”
“no that’s it, thank you so much raf. if you have time sometime later this week I would love to go out for drinks, we haven’t gone out in a while.”
“after this case, liv just called me. we’ll have to see.”
“ok thanks again i gotta go, love you raf. go solve that case and kick ass in court!”
“always Y/N. bye.”
You get dressed and go to the store. grabbing some cough syrup, cough drops, more tissues, herbal tea, honey, vaporub, bottled water, thermometer, tylenol and a toothbrush (to use when he’s not sick, so he can throw out the one he used while he was sick). you think “it’s insane we didn’t already have this stuff but it is what it is I guess. I hope he’s ok at work.” you laugh to yourself at the idea of him accidentally sneezing on his computer at work. you check out, get in the car and head home. as you’re driving you get a call from a number you don’t recognize. when you put everything you bought away you called it back. turns out it was Lucia, Rafael’s mom. turns out the soup was done. Raf gave her your number to call because he was too busy at work. You went over to her place and as soon as you stepped into the threshold you could smell the soup. it was going to take all of your self restraint to not eat it. you had to keep reminding yourself “its for sonny”. after you and lucia caught up you headed out, soup in hand. when you got back home you debated bringing the soup to the precinct for sonny since it’s almost lunch, but your train of thought got interuppted by sonny himself knocking and stumbling through the door.
“what happened, tough guy?” you asked mockingly. he smiled back sarcastically.
“i’m fine, lieu just sent me home. apparently I was bothering everyone with my nose blowing so she made me leave.” you tried so hard not to laugh, but you couldn’t help but laugh a little. “yeah, yeah laugh it up. so funny.” you stopped when you saw how actually hurt sonny was. cupping his face in your hand, you tried to get a smile out of him, but he was just too tired.
“I got you some stuff today that I think you’ll like.” he perked up really quick at that. he always loved surprises and presents no matter what they were.
“what did you get, doll?”
“just some stuff to help with your cold, including but not limited to: Lucia’s famous soup.” you could almost see his mouth start watering.
“you are too good to me doll.”
“i know.” luckily it was still pretty warm so you put some in a bowl for him and he almost inhaled it.
“relax sweetheart, no one’s gonna take it away. make sure to breathe.”
“i didn’t realize how hungry i was until I started. can I have some more? please?” he responded with food still in his mouth, almost begging.
“of course you can. how are you feeling?” he just shrugged off your question.
“dominick carisi jr. tell me how you’re feeling please, then you get your soup.” he looked almost dazed at the demand. he finally spilled and said he felt hot. it’s january. the apartment is pretty cold. you handed him the bowl of soup and he ate it almost as fast if not faster than the first. after he finished you helped him undress and into a shower. when he’s sick he’s not good at doing things so you got in the shower with him otherwise he’d just stand under the water until it went cold. not only that, you liked the closeness of him being sick brought you two. having to take care of him was nice and easy. you started by pulling him under the stream of water to wet his hair so you could wash it out. he was happily humming as you massaged his scalp with shampoo trying very carefully to not get it in his eyes as you also rinsed it out. after all the shampoo was out you put in conditioner to sit as you washed his body. surprisingly he didn’t get a boner the whole time. you had him rinse off his body as you did his hair. you dried him and yourself off when you got out. you picked out your favorite pajamas on him: one of his fordham law t-shirts (that you haven’t stolen) and flannel sweatpants.
“actually take off your t-shirt.” you expected him to ask why but he didn’t.
“ok, im still pretty warm.”
“i got you some vaporub today so i’ll put some of that on your chest, if you don’t protest?”
“no that sounds good actually.” you both walk to the living room, you go to the kitchen to start the kettle to make tea and grab the stuff you bought. after starting the kettle you brought the bag into the livingroom.
“what’s all this doll?”
“just some things I picked up from the store today to help you out.”
you handed him the water and tylenol since he had a headache. turns out he didn’t drink water all day (big surprise). after he took the tylenol you took his temperature: 99º not bad. you pulled out the vaporub and scooped some out and put it on his exposed chest. he winced at first at the cold feeling, but eased into it after a few circles.
“i think you might be going a bit overboard Y/N” he remarked as you pulled out cough syrup and tissues.
“please just let me take care of you, I love you.”
“ok fine, but please relax a little. I love you too but you’re stressin me out a bit.”
“alright I’ll relax, I just want you to get better. it sounds selfish, but I want you to get better so I can kiss you.” as you finish he attempts to kiss you, but you put your hand up. “no no no, I’m not getting sick too.”
“aw come on doll i just want one kiss”
“i’ll kiss your cheek. is that a deal?”
“fine.” somewhat sulking he accepts the deal as the kettle goes off. you get up to go finish making his tea and bring it back for him setting it on the coffee table.
“what do you wanna watch babe?”
“anything you want doll i’m pretty tired. maybe……..” he mumbles something that you don’t quite catch.
“maybe what honey? i can’t hear you when you mumble.”
“maybe one of your disney movies?”
“you wanna watch a disney movie? you, dominick carisi jr? ok I won’t argue, but who are you and what have you done with my sunshine?” he slightly chuckles.
“sunshine? you’ve never called me that before doll?”
“sunshine because your the light of my life and play on of your name sonny. s o n n s h i n e, sunshine.”
“ah clever doll, i like it. I love you so much.”
“love you too” you look around for a disney stumbling upon hercules and pop it into the dvd player. you crawl between sonnys legs and lay your head on his chest, careful to not hit his crotch while pulling up a blanket. he falls asleep after 20 minutes of the movie. probably the cough syrup. after the movie finished you just stayed, laying and admiring him. your sleeping beauty. you fell asleep after a bit.
“hey doll” he murmered drowsily. you woke up to the sound of his staten island drone.
“hey honey how did you sleep?”
“pretty good, what time is it? you checked your phone.
“almost 5pm. ready for dinner?”
“yeah i can’t wait for more soup.” you get up slowly to not hurt him and stumble into the kitchen to reheat the soup, pulling down two bowls for you and sonny.
*
“sit up honey it’s pretty warm and I don’t want you to dump it down your chest.”
“ok fine.” after he sat up you gave him his soup. he once again inhaled it. god could this man eat. you sit down next to him to eat your bowl. after he finished you forced him once again to take cough medicine, drink water, and take some tylenol. he said he felt a bit better than earlier. after you finished you got up to reheat him another bowl. he didn’t ask for one but he didn’t have to. his face filled with pure glee when you returned with more. after finishing once again you both laid back down and watched more tv. he somehow stayed awake to binge all of the new stranger things episodes. after it finished you had to practically drag him to bed. it was hard since he had the height advantage, but with some convincing he got into bed. after a few minutes of laying on his chest you heard his heartbeat slow, knowing he was asleep and comfortable you moved over to your side to give him some space. somehow he felt you move and pulled you back. in the morning you woke up in his arms, him spooning you, feeling happy and safe.

He leaned in wrapping her up in a hug. “It's so good to see you Ellie.” she hugged him back, breathing in his scent. “Its ah. good to um, see you too Logan.” she stumbled on her words. “What are you doing in L.A? Are you living here?”
“What?” she shouted.
“what are you doing in L.A?” he shouted back.
“I can't. I can't hear you over the music.” she shouted again. He leaned in closer to her ear “I'm in the VIP section, it's a little quieter there lets catch up.” Ellie looked at Logan and back at the Bar, but Riya was gone. “I'm here with Riya, I can't find her.” she stood on her tiptoes. He nodded “I'll help you find her, she can join us.”
They looked all over for Riya when they finally ran into her coming from the bathroom.  “Oh El, I've been looking all over for you. Dare text Marcus is running a fever, I have to go.” her eyes finally looking at the man standing next to her. “Logan?” she looked between Ellie and him, Ellie gave her a pleading look. “Yeah, what are the odds?”
“Hey Riya.” Logan hugged her.
“So Logan it was nice to see you again but Riyas got to go so.”
“You can stay Ellie. I'm sure you and Logan have a lot to catch up on.” Riya smirked. “I can take her home, I would love to catch up.” Ellie nodded, suddenly feeling extremely nervous.  Riya leaned in giving her a hug. “Time to take the training wheels off kiddo. Call me in the morning, I want to know everything.”
Logan led her to the roped off area, sitting down at a private booth. It was just the two of them, she could feel her heart pounding in her ears. “How about a drink?” He broke the silence. “long island iced tea please.” Logan motioned for a waitress giving her their order. “Damn, that was fast.” She giggled as she sipped her drink the waitress just sat down. “One of the perks of VIP, no waiting.” He scooted closer “So Ellie. How have you been?”
She filled him in on graduating top of her class at Langston, which came with challenges. How she majored in accounting, minored in criminal justice. Her job closed down and she took a job back home to be closer to her dad. Logan told her how he went back to school and got his diploma, moving in with vaughn and taking a job with a racing company as a mechanic and pit crew. They put him in a car to do test laps and the bosses were impressed so they promoted him to Driver.
“Logan I am so proud of you, really. I knew you could make something of yourself. And you get paid to drive fast.. Legally.” She squeezed his hand and giggled. “Well, I owe it all to you. If you hadn't of pushed and had confidence in me, I would have never tried. I thought about you every step of the way.” He took her hand in his. She felt her heart skip a beat, after all this time he still had that effect on her.
“So what accounting firm are you with now?” He leaned back, the gears turning in his head. “Trinity. I was able to take my clients with me from my old job, But this place I'm going to need to step my game up. These guys deal with some A list celebrities.”
“You know I'm actually looking for an accountant. My agent was looking into Trinity anyway. It only makes sense now to choose you.” Ellie spit her drink out. “Logan, what? No. I couldn't possibly.”
“You can, I trust you Ellie, and I know you'll have my back.”
“Logan, It's complicated.  I um, need to tell you-” she was cut off by a man in a nice suit approaching Logan. “I apologize Ellie, give me one second.”
She sat at the table, nervously picking her fingers. She looked around noticing a few women giving her dirty looks and clearly talking about her. She couldn't be his accountant, it would be complicated especially once she told him he may have fathered her child. “I'm so sorry Ellie, but I have to cut this short.  My agent scheduled an early morning interview. But hey, give me your number.”
She rattled off her number. Logan sending a text with his own. “Come on I'll give you a ride home.”
They climbed into Logan's car and speed off into the night. “Feels like old times huh?” He grinned. “You have no idea.” she stared out the window, watching the city fly by in a blurr. “You still drive?” he asked.
“yeah, but not nearly as wreckless.” she giggled. Her mind took her back to the night they lifted the cars from the hauler.
*****
She felt so alive, so free, so rebellious. The feeling was Dangerous and sexy, she felt a fire igniting within her as she whipped the supercar through the winding mountain side. After they took the cars to the storage spot, the ride back to the garage was buzzing with adrenaline from all.  Ellie hopped out of the suv and ran up the stairs to the room she was sharing with Logan. She couldn't stand still, it was like she was going to crawl out of her skin if she didnt do something.
Logan walked up the stairs to the room pulling off his white t shirt, doing pull ups. He watched as Ellie paced the floor. “I know that feeling, you're pumped full of adrenaline. It helps to find something to do to take the edge off, like pull ups.” He smirked as he jumped down. Ellie bit her lip as she watched his muscles flex.
“Oh, I know something to take the edge off.” she purred as she quickly closed the distance between them making short work of each others clothes. Logan lifted her up as she wrapped her legs around him, he kicked the door closed, it shutting with an audible bang.
Ximena looked at Mona and grinned. “Looks like somebody's gonna get lucky.” Colt standing right there. He grabbed his helmet and speed off on his bike.
Logan laid her on the bed, he kissed her softly his eyes met hers. “Are you sure?”
Her lips met his “I'm sure Logan.”
He smiled into the kiss as he slowly lowered himself into her. Her fingers digging into his back. He set a slow pace, relishing in the feeling of her beneath him His lips never leaving hers.  The soft moans coming from her driving him wild as he picked up the pace, careful not to be to rough. He knew it was her first time, and he wanted to make it special for her. Her breathing becoming increasingly rapid, he held her close to him as he felt her walls beginning to flutter around him. Her moans grew louder as he gently nipped the sensitive spots on her neck. Her body began to tremble under him as she whimpered. “Its ok Ellie, I got you.” he breathed into her ear. Her fingers dug deep into his shoulders, her eyes snapping shut a burst of white light filing her senses as she came undone.
*****
A pair of bright headlights in front of them pulled her from her thoughts. “Penny for your thoughts.” He asked, noticing her mind was a million miles away. She shook her head and blushed “Just remembering something, that's all.”
“Hopefully something good.”
“It was.” She smiled at him softly.
Logan was the first person she had slept with. He was so tender, and kind about it. Before meeting Logan, and falling into that lifestyle,  she figured she would save herself until marriage. But things changed, she changed.
Logan pulled up to her father's house. “Well, we're here.” She could hear the sadness in his voice. “yeah, we are. Thanks for the ride home.” she unbuckled her seatbelt, leaning over kissing his cheek.
He breathed in her scent, dulling his senses. He reached over softly cupping her face.  He leaned in, his lips softly capturing hers. She hesitated momentarily before relaxing into the kiss,  She pulled away. “Umm I should go.”
“Ellie, i'm sorry I just. I don't know. I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable.”
“No, Logan you didn't. But my life is complicated and I don't want to lead you on.” she sighed.
“I understand.  So I'll see you soon?” She noticed the hopeful look in his eyes. “Yeah, that would be nice. Good night Logan.” she climbed out of the car. “Good night, Ellie.” he smiled as he drove off.
Ellie walked into the Dark house. Her dad and Luca already asleep. She washed her face and changed into some pjs. She laid in her bed replaying the night over and over again. What were the odds that she would run into Logan? And the kiss, it was as if it were they never stopped. She needed to tell Logan the truth, and soon.
Over the weekend Ellie enjoyed some quiet time with her dad and Luca. Her nerves starting to get the better of her.  Riya had stopped by with Marcus and Ellie filled her in on their night. Finally it was Monday morning, Ellie walked into her new office immediately sitting in on a meeting where her they introduced her. She was shown to her office, she was used to a cubical, this had a door. She walked in sitting at the desk, sinking into the chair. “Hello Ellie, I just wanted to introduce myself. Im Elias Manning, your supervisor.” she stood extending her hand. “Pleasure to meet you Mr Manning.”
“Ellie please. Mr Manning is my father. Call me Elias, or Eli.” he chuckled.
“These were delivered for you.” he handed her an arraignment of a dozen red roses.
“oh, ah thank you.” she sat them down on her desk, noticing a card. “Oh and also, congratulations on picking up Logan Rider, we have been trying to get him for months.” Elias grinned. Ellie's attention on the roses in front of her. “Oh, thank you. Wait. what?”
“I don't know how you did it, but Logan called the firm himself specifically asking for you to be the accountant handling his affairs. Good work Ellie.” He turned and walked away. She slumped down in her chair grabbing the envelope and tearing it open.
Good luck on your first day, You're gonna be great.
Love, Logan.
She picked up her phone pressing his name, he picked up on the first ring “You got my flowers, do you like them?” “They are beautiful Logan. You requested me as your Accountant!”
“I told you. I Trust you and only you to handle it.” He chuckled on the other end.
“Logan. I told you I can't do it. It's way to complicated.” she sighed.
“You keep saying that.  Ellie it will be fine, don't worry so much. Have dinner with me tomorrow night, we can talk about everything then.” she couldn't see him, but she could feel the grin on his face just by speaking to him.
“Fine.” she let out an exaggerated sigh.” But Logan, we have A LOT to talk about.”
“I look forward to it. I'll pick you up at 6.” his voice so chipper she couldn't help but grin.
She hung up the phone, letting out a loud groan. The day flew by she had about half an hour left before she was done for the day when she got a text from her dad.
DAD: Got a call, the cars ready. Can you pick it up after work?
Ellie: Sure dad, send me the address
She grabbed a cab rattling off the address to the driver. She stared out the window, Logan heavy on her mind. Everything happened so fast, she knew she would have to try to at least track them down, but she figured it would take some time. Instead it was as if the Universe delivered Logan to her,  maybe it was a sign, maybe he was Lucas dad and she wouldn't even have to look for Colt.
His name send an ache through her, she would be lying if she said part of her didn't miss him too. She missed them both, she at one time Loved them both, each for different reasons. She was so caught up in her thoughts she didn't realize the cab came to a stop.
“Miss.  Miss. Were here.”

—–
Three days later, Natsu got a reply. He was coming back from the washroom at three in the morning when he saw his phone flashing with a message and picked it up.
Wow… I don’t even know what to say. Hey, I guess?
Natsu sat down heavily on the bed, staring at the words before opening the message window. Neelan was online – the little green dot beside his name made Natsu’s stomach twist.
He looked over at Gray, who was fast asleep with Happy curled up next to him. A few stray hairs fell in Gray’s eyes and Natsu reached over, gently brushing them away and running his finger down Gray’s cheek.
Gray mumbled something, shifting onto his side and pulling the pillow closer to him.
“Hey, Snowflake,” Natsu whispered. “You awake?”
The only response was a soft snore, and Natsu looked back at his phone uncertainly. He shuffled until his back was pressed up against Gray’s legs but turned so that the light from his phone screen wasn’t hitting Gray’s face.
hey, he typed, then sat there, thumbs hovering over the keys for a moment before hitting ‘send.’ His stomach clenched and he reached out for Gray, ready to wake him up, but his phone buzzed again.
I’m sorry it took me so long to respond.
Natsu wished he could hear the emotion behind the words as they travelled across the screen. Was Neelan angry? Happy? Frustrated? Did he want to have this conversation, or was he ready to tell Natsu to leave him alone?
Another message popped up. How are you? You probably have lots of questions.
Natsu stared at his phone, trying to figure out how to answer.
yeah i guess, he replied eventually. i didnt think id look for u but my foster sister found her mom and it made me think. u live pretty close. its kinda weird.
Neelan’s reply came quicker than Natsu expected. I never thought you’d want to look for me. You’re what, thirty now?
Natsu typed back a quick yeah, then tipped his head back and rubbed his face. A million questions were running through his mind, and he wasn’t sure what to say.

I’m not sure how to ask this, Neelan wrote, but… did you find a family? Were you okay after I left? I’m really sorry things turned out the way they did.
A spike of anger and hurt flared up in Natsu’s chest and he curled up in on himself, swallowing back the tears that suddenly pressed at the back of his eyes. How was he supposed to answer that?
im married now, he said eventually. he’s my family.
After he hit send, a wave of trepidation washed over him – he hadn’t even thought about the idea of coming out to his dad. It was something everyone in his life already knew, and nobody had ever had a problem with it. But what if his dad did? Natsu’s palms felt slick and he nearly dropped his phone when it buzzed again.
I’m really happy for you. I saw your last name was different. What’s his name?
Natsu exhaled, pressing his forehead to his knees and glancing over at Gray again. He ran his fingers through Gray’s hair, thinking again about waking him up. Everything felt surreal, like this was just a movie about somebody else who was hurt and broken and unsure.
gray, he replied. weve been maried for 10yrs.
Wow. Do you have any kids?
The question stung. Natsu wiped at his face before answering no, then set his phone face-down on the bed next to his pillow and ran his hands through his hair. Happy made a sound that was half-purr, half-grumble, and stretched himself out, then headbutted Natsu until Natsu scratched his back.
The phone buzzed twice and Natsu reached out for it, then drew back his hand, shaking his head. He was exhausted, suddenly, and the ache in his chest made him feel heavy.
He moved the phone off to the side of the bed, then curled back up under the covers, shifting until his back was pressed to Gray’s chest. Gray made a soft, sleepy sound, wrapping his arm around Natsu’s waist and pressing his face to the back of Natsu’s neck.
“I love you,” Natsu whispered, threading his fingers through Gray’s and squeezing his hand tightly. Gray tucked his knee between Natsu’s legs, and Natsu sighed, relaxing into the embrace. This was his home. No matter what his dad said, Natsu was safe here, with Gray.
~
Natsu meant to tell Gray as soon as they woke up the next morning, but when he yawned and rolled over, he realized he was alone in bed. The shower was running, and Natsu considered joining Gray, then looked over at his phone and groaned. He reached out and grabbed it but didn’t look at the screen, setting it face-down on his chest and taking a few deep breaths.
Why did you leave? he thought, rubbing his face. That’s all he needed to type. He didn’t even need to look at the other messages from last night – they weren’t important. All Natsu cared about was the answer. He didn’t need a relationship with someone who left.
Finally, he opened his notifications and stared at the messages from his dad.
I feel awful for leaving you, the first one read. I think about you a lot. I just couldn’t be a dad, and I know that’s hard to understand. I thought you’d be better off without me.
The next one said, I know it doesn’t make it better, but it hurt me a lot to leave you, too. I still have a picture of us in my wallet.
It was accompanied by a snapshot of a faded, worn picture of Neelan, looking like he was in his early twenties. In his lap was Natsu – maybe around three years old, chubby-cheeked with messy brown hair and a missing front tooth. He was gazing up at Neelan with bright eyes and a wide smile.
Natsu stared down at the picture. At first, all he could see was the adoring way he was looking at his father. Then he started picking up other details – the bracelet Neelan wore, the swingset in the background, a residue of sticky ice cream on little Natsu’s cheeks. Neelan’s hair was pulled back in a similar ponytail to the one Natsu had now, and he wore a hoodie with Magnolia’s hockey team logo on the chest.
Natsu swallowed, rubbing his face as a hot flush crept across his face and something unfamiliar bubbled in his stomach.
wow, he typed back after staring at the picture for several minutes. i dont have any picturs of me when i was little.
I have more, if you’d like to see them, came the almost immediate response. I’m sure you look a lot different now.
Before Natsu could think about what he was doing, he opened his photo folder and scrolled through them until he came to one that Gray had taken a few weeks ago, of Natsu with Sylvie at the night market in Richmond. They were both holding up cups of bubble tea and grinning at the camera.
Natsu clicked ‘share,’ and when the message popped up that the picture was sent, the bubbling in his stomach intensified. It took a few minutes for Neelan to respond, and Natsu was about to start panicking when the words finally popped up.
You look just like your mom.
“Hey, you.” Gray’s voice snapped Natsu out of his trance and he closed the app quickly, guilt filling his chest. Gray stood in the doorway to the bathroom in a t-shirt and boxers, damp hair hanging in his face, squinting over at Natsu. “How’d you sleep?” he asked, moving over to the bed and grabbing his glasses from the side table.
“Good,” Natsu said, shoving his phone under his pillow and shuffling over to Gray’s side of the bed. He caught Gray around the waist, pulling him in and kissing his cheek. “You been up for a while?”
Tell him, Natsu thought. Just say it. ‘I found my dad.’
“Yeah, I just got back from the pool,” Gray said, wrapping his arms around Natsu’s shoulders. “I was gonna wake you up, but you were snoring, and you looked like you needed the sleep.”
Natsu snorted, then tugged Gray down onto the bed with him until they were curled up together and Natsu could run his fingers through Gray’s hair. Gray hummed happily, closing his eyes and shifting closer.
“I…” Natsu swallowed, forcing himself not to look back at his phone.
Gray tipped his head back to look at Natsu. “What’s wrong?” he asked, and Natsu’s heart sank as Gray’s face quickly transformed from content to concerned. It was that look, the one that made Natsu feel safe and helpless at the same time. This Gray was cautious, and if Natsu told him, he’d start asking questions Natsu couldn’t answer.
Is he sober? How did you find him? He could be lying. He left you. It was probably drugs. Be careful.
“Nothin’,” Natsu said, shaking his head and kissing Gray’s forehead. “Still tired, that’s all.” Gray frowned, but before he could ask any more questions, Natsu poked him in the ribs and said, “y’know what would wake me up?”
“What?” Gray asked, giving Natsu an unimpressed look and swatting away his finger good-naturedly. Natsu forced himself to smile.
“Pancakes.”
~
Natsu didn’t check his phone again until he got to work. He gave Sting a quick wave through the back window, then headed to the office, dropping his bag under the desk and taking a deep breath before opening his messages.
There were three pictures from Neelan. One was of him holding Natsu as a tiny baby, almost too small to be real; another was of Natsu as a toddler playing at the beach.
The last one was of a young, pretty girl, maybe sixteen or seventeen, with long, black hair and brown skin just like Natsu’s. She was sitting on the end of a slide at a playground, toes dug into the sand, laughing with her head thrown back as the sun set in the background.
Natsu let out the breath he’d been holding, touching the picture carefully with shaky fingers. The girl was so young and looked so pretty, and all Natsu could think about was that she was dead.
“Who’s that?”
Natsu nearly dropped his phone when Sting appeared behind him, looking at the picture over his shoulder. Part of Natsu wanted to close it or make something up, but he couldn’t stop himself from whispering, “my mom.”
Sting froze behind him, then touched Natsu’s arm gently. Natsu took a shaky breath, turning around slowly and slumping into the office chair.
“Are you okay?” Sting asked gently, crouching down in front of Natsu. “Hey, Natsu, look at me,” he said gently. “C’mon, breathe.”
Natsu shook his head, relinquishing his grip on the phone as Sting took it from him and set it on the desk. He looked over at the picture again, taking an unsteady breath before exhaling sharply and looking down at Sting.
“I found my dad,” he said, the words spilling out of him. “He—I looked on Facebook, I’m so stupid, I don’t know why I didn’t do it before, and he lives in Victoria, he’s been… fucking, two hours away this whole fucking time, and I didn’t even think, and then he said he was sorry and he missed me and…” He paused, when whispered, “I look like my mom.” He didn’t even realize it was crying until his vision got burry, and he wiped his face with the back of his hand. “She looks h-happy.”
Sting squeezed Natsu’s knee reassuringly. “That’s a lot,” he said. “Do you want me to call Gray?”
“No,” Natsu said quickly, taking a deep breath as he tried to get his pounding heart under control. “No, he’s at—he’s in a meeting. I’m fine, I’m okay. I was just surprised, I didn’t think…”
“How long have you guys been talking?” Sting asked, standing up and grabbing the stool from the other side of the room. He pulled it over to the desk and settled down on it across from Natsu.
“Just since last night,” Natsu said, picking at his nails. “Or, early this morning, I guess.”
He reached out slowly and picked up his phone again, staring at the picture of his mom before flipping back to the other ones. “I’ve never seen pictures of myself as a kid,” he said softly.
“Shit, you were tiny,” Sting said, leaning in to look at the one of Neelan holding Natsu. It was taken in a hospital, and Natsu was lying on Neelan’s chest, barely bigger than the hands that held him. Neelan was staring down at him, and he looked…
“He loved me,” Natsu whispered. Neelan was smiling in the photo, eyes wide and awed and very much enamored with the tiny baby in his arms. Something complicated grew in Natsu’s chest – a feeling that was part pain and longing, and part relief.
“Why don’t you take the day off?” Sting suggested, squeezing Natsu’s arm. “I’m sure Gray’s meeting will be over soon. You wanna text him?”
Natsu nodded numbly, the words washing over him as he stared at the picture. His dad had loved him, had wanted him, had held him and looked at him like Natsu was his world.
So what had happened?

Chapter One | Chapter Two | Chapter Three | Chapter Four | Chapter Five | Chapter Six | Chapter Seven | Chapter Eight | Chapter Nine | Chapter Ten
A/N: So I wanted to get this chapter out before I leave for the weekend. I’ve had this chapter planned for like months (maybe almost a year) and didn’t realize until yesterday how almost holiday appropriate it was? Although, I’m envisioning the timeline somewhere around the end of September, so not quite Halloween.
Warnings: Some spoilers for the movie Psycho, so if you somehow haven’t seen, or don’t know the twist ending to an almost 60 year old movie, you’ve been warned.
Chapter Eleven
The day Merle was given the all clear, he hurled himself back into the fields. His arm ached every now and then, but he refused to relax. Everyone was busy on their own schedule as summer finally seemed to be drawing to a close. Anna and Nora’s mornings became less frantic as they fell into a routine, with Anna still able to gather eggs from the coop before breakfast. They had everything down to a science and knew exactly what time the bus would be out front.
The sudden lack of spare time also allowed Merle to avoid the eventual conversation with Nora about what happened on the tractor. It was the only thing on his mind as he tended to the fields, how close he was. It was like an electric force pulling them together before Darylina ruined it. Dummy couldn’t ever take a hint. Merle wasn’t sure how to bring it back up, or if Nora even wanted him to since she never talked about it again either. In a way, he was almost content to never talk about it again. Merle never understood why he was this way when he knew that wasn’t what he wanted. He could feel Nora slipping from him as the days went by, and the thought of that made him angry. Merle threw a rotten tomato as hard as he could towards the woods, and sighed. Distracted in his thoughts, he didn’t hear the swooshing sound of the plant leaves getting closer.
“Hey,” Nora called.
“Shit!” Merle whispered and whirled his head around at her voice. His sudden turn causing Nora to take a step back.
“Sorry, did I scare you?”
Merle huffed a laughed. “What?” Aw, nah darlin. Ya didn’t scare me.” He cleared his throat and puffed out his chest, while his heart rate started to even out on the inside. Nora raised a brow at him.
“Uh, what did ya need?” he asked.
“I was just seeing how much longer you were gonna be out here,” she responded. “I was gonna get a roast started since Anna will be home soon.”
“Jesus,” Merle rubbed a hand over his sweat drenched face. “Is it that time already?”
“Mmhm.”
“Ya know, sometimes I don’t even know what day it is?” he joked.
Nora gave him a short smile while she folded her arms. “Well, you’ve been pretty busy,” she answered.
Merle could hear the forced kindness in her voice. It stung his heart. His eyes fell and he stared at his dirt covered boots while nodding his head. The awkward silence of their first encounters seemed to be breathing new life again.
“Well, I guess I better get back to the house,” Nora said softly and Merle watched as her shadow slowly moved away from him. Ya gonna lose her for good if ya don’t do something, Dixon, his mind yelled at him.
“Wait!” Merle called and jogged up the row of green vegetation. Nora stopped to let him catch up. All of their conversations since the tractor had been brief, nothing lasting longer than a few minutes. She wondered what was so important now.
“I, uh wanted to thank ya for everything you did while I was outta commission,” he smiled.
“Oh,” Nora said flatly. “You’re welcome.” She moved to head back towards the house when she felt Merle’s warm hand wrap around her upper arm, gently pulling her back.
“No, uh, what I meant was...um,” Merle’s hand moved from Nora to scratch the back of his head while he thought of the right words. “When was the last time ya seen a picture?”
Nora shrugged her shoulders.
“Um, I...I’d like ta take ya, if you’ll let me, this weekend. They finally showing that new Hitchcock one over in Greenwood.” Merle held his breath as he waited for her to respond.
Nora furrowed her brows as she thought Merle’s words over. He hadn’t so much as complimented her since the tractor incident. A part of her thought Merle might have changed his mind after that day, that their relationship had become too real so he backed off. She watched his mannerisms while thinking it over, noticing how he bit his lower lip and his eyes almost resembled that of a puppy dog with his brows lifting and creasing at an angle. She was still a little upset with him, but she couldn’t deny she wanted to go.
“What about Anna?” she asked.
“Daryl could watch her or something,” Merle immediately replied. “I take that as a yes?”  Nora smiled again, this time with a softness in her features and a hopefulness in her eyes, and nodded her head.
“It’s a date then,” Merle remarked and walked with her to the farmhouse. The fields had been tended to enough for the day.
--------------------------------------------
Nora stood in front of the small sink in the shed, holding her compact mirror in one hand and adjusting the strands of her unruly hair with the other. The lamp near the kitchenette held the best light and she stuck the mirror further out to see as much of herself as she could. She had pinned her waves back on both sides and let the rest hang loose, hitting just past her shoulders. Nora moved her head back and forth and up and down, making sure the little makeup she did put on hadn’t smudged. She had coated her lashes in a deep black mascara and painted her lips with a soft red to contrast against the blush colored, tea length dress she decided to wear. Her eyes caught Anna, sitting on the bed with a smile on her face watching her. A knock at the door cut through the silence and Anna ran over to let Merle in.
“Merle!” she greeted him wrapping her arms around his waist.
“Hey Bug, you and ya Mama ready?” he asked.
“Yep,” Nora answered while turning around and closing her compact. She walked over to the small table and placed it in her coin purse then walked up towards the two. Merle’s smile grew as she neared, his eyes roamed from the top of her head down to her feet and he tucked his hands in his back pockets.
“Hi,” he grinned while his shoulders swayed back and forth and his blue eyes finally landed back on Nora’s.
“Hi,” she smiled softly. Her full cheeks turning a slight pink hue. For the briefest moment it was just them.
“Why can’t I go to the movie?” Anna whined, breaking the bubble Merle and Nora found themselves in once more.
“Because this is a grown up movie, baby,” Nora said. She walked back to the table and grabbed the white canvas bag she had packed Anna’s stuff in. “You remember me telling you that. Ya gonna go over to Doris and Marty’s house tonight and have dinner.” Anna sighed and pouted as she walked out of the shed door and towards the parked vehicles, kicking at whatever piece of nature fell in her path.
“We’ll go see a cartoon soon, Bug. Alright?” Merle tried to reason with the five year old. He didn’t even think Anna might be jealous about them going somewhere without her. He clearly still had a lot to learn about kids.
They loaded up in Merle’s truck and headed into town. When they got to Doris’ house, Anna seemed to perk up a bit. The warm, sweet scent of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies hit their noses as the front door opened and Doris ushered them in. Nora knew Anna would be spoiled rotten here, but she didn’t mind. In fact, Anna managed to talk Doris into eating a cookie before dinner just to make sure they tasted good.
“So what show are you going to?” Doris asked with enthusiasm while walking Nora and Merle to the door.
“Oh, that new Hitchcock one,” Nora replied.
“Oh my,” the older woman responded. “The magazines say it’s suppose to be terrifying.”
Merle waved a passing hand at her. “Ain’t nothing that can scare a Dixon,” he boasted. Nora smiled to herself at his words, thinking about the other day when Merle jumped when she called him.
“We should be back around nine thirty or so,” Nora replied as they walked out to the porch.
“Oh take your time dear, no rush,” Doris waved them goodbye.
--------------------------------------------
The ride over to Greenwood was passed with anticipated talk about the movie. It had finally made its way down to the small towns of America and they both wondered how scary it would be. The drive-in was half full by the time Merle pulled into the large expanse. The gravel crunched underneath the tires as they slowed and turned into a spot near the back. As Merle turned the ignition off an advertisement with dancing bags of popcorn, hotdogs, and cups of soda appeared on the giant screen, illuminating the truck in red and blue hues.
“Ya want something ta eat? Im starvin,” Merle asked and Nora agreed. Before hopping out of the truck, he cranked the driver side window down and the brisk night air filled the cab. Merle reached for the round speaker attached to the post and hung it on the door as he got out. With Merle’s broad frame gone, the cool air sent a shiver down Nora’s spine. She folded her arms over each other as goosebumps started to appear, but they only became worse as the screen went black and suddenly sharp, franic, string notes began to play through the metal speaker. A few minutes later, Merle returned with a large bag of buttery popcorn and two cokes. He handed Nora the beverages through the open window before getting back in.
“Music’s kinda creepy ain't it?” he stated.
“Uh hunh,” Nora responded while reaching for a handful of popcorn. They munched on the snack and slurped their drinks as the credits continued to roll. When the screen finally landed on a woman in her lingerie reclining in bed with a shirtless man standing next to her, Merle let out a low whistle.
“This is gonna be some movie,” he whispered. Merle continued to give his own commentary as the film went on to Nora’s enjoyment.
“Atta girl,” he hollered when Marion Crane packed her bags and the forty thousand dollars.
Nora asked for some more popcorn and Merle held the bag in the middle of them, waiting for Nora to reach her hand out. When she did, he pulled his away and chuckled.
“Merle!” Nora laughed at his antics. She tried again and Merle pulled away. Giving a huff, Nora tried for a third time and when Merle stuck his arm out, this time he let her grab a handful of the salty treat. After taking a sip of the sweet, syrupy soda a chill ran through her body and Nora folded her arms again, rubbing her hands up and down her expose skin.
“Ya cold?” Merle asked as he glanced over at her sitting in the passenger seat.
“Just a little.”
“Come here,” Merle set the bag of popcorn in his lap and raised his right arm, resting it along the top of the bench seat. Nora looked over at him and bite her lip. Slowly, she slid across the faded tan plastic. Moving to the middle seat, Nora smoothed out the skirt of her dress when Merle’s arm slid around her. The warmth from his calloused hand running up and down her arm soon had Nora relaxed and comfortable. While Merle absentmindedly stroked her arm, Nora took the bag of popcorn from his lap and started to munch on a few pieces. With his other hand, Merle reached over to try and grab some and when she saw him out of the corner of her eye, Nora moved the bag at the same time. A smile creeped on her face.
Merle bellowed a laugh. “Alright, I deserved that.”
Soon they became engrossed in the movie that had taken an eerie turn when the woman stopped at an almost abandoned motel. The popcorn was tossed to the side as the suspense kicked in. The lack of music playing on the screen made Nora uneasy and without thinking, she placed a nervous hand on Merle’s knee.
The silence in the air was deafening and Nora’s grip tightened as the blurred image of the bathroom door opened and a shadowy figure neared the shower. Nora felt Merle’s arm stiffen as the figure came closer and closer. When the curtained opened and the shrilling music started to play, Nora jumped and Merle’s hand clamped down on her side.
“Oh shit!” he yelled as the woman was stabbed to death in quick flashes. Screams erupted from the surrounding vehicles at the terror on the screen, and Nora closed her eyes until the music subsided. Her heart pounded against her chest and she could still feel Merle’s grip on her.
“What kinda movie did you take me to?” she turned to face him. Merle just stared at the screen, wide eyed with his mouth opening and closing trying to find words, but nothing came out. Nothing scares a Dixon, huh? Nora smirked to herself. They spent the rest of the movie in each other’s embrace with Nora eventually resting her head on Merle’s plaid covered shoulder. When Detective Arbogast met his doom, they jumped in unison again.
Neither spoke as the screen faded to black and they waited for the line of cars leaving to die down before Merle started the old truck. Both lost in their own thoughts about what they just watched.
“I liked it,” Nora finally said as they traveled down the dark stretch of road connecting Greenwood to Redwater.
“Ya did?” Merle asked. He glanced over to Nora’s shadowy frame and then back at the dimly lit road, amazed at her words.
“Mmhm, it was different,” she responded.
“Yep, it was,” he agreed.
So are you. The thought flitted through Merle’s head as they passed the worn down sign welcoming them back to Redwood.
--------------------------------------------
They stopped at Doris and Marty’s to pick up a zonked out Anna. Dressed in her purple night shirt and pants, the little girl was curled up on the couch with her favorite stuffed puppy dog tucked underneath one arm. Nora scooped her up in her arms and she and Merle gave whispered ‘thank yous’ and ‘goodbyes’ to the older couple. Merle opened the passenger side door for Nora and helped her get in, waiting until both her and the kid were settled before shutting it.
The ride back to the farmhouse was quiet so as to not disrupt Anna’s sleep and when Merle parked in the grassy area, he hopped out and took her from Nora’s arms.
“Here,” he gestured. “I got her.” They carefully transferred the tired girl from Nora’s lap to Merle’s arms, trying their best not to wake her. Anna’s heavy eyes fluttered open a few times through the exchange, but she quickly nuzzled into the crook of Merle’s neck and fell back asleep.
Nora walked in front of him to open the door to the shed and Merle gently laid Anna on the rickety mattress and pulled the covers over her. They walked back outside, and Nora shut the door quietly. Out in the open air, she looked up at Merle while tucking her unruly strands of hair behind her ear. From the light of the full moon, she could see the prominent outline of his strong jaw, and his blue eyes had a hypnotizing glow to them.
“I had a nice time tonight,” she commented, as she pushed her hair away again while the breezy night continued to undo her efforts.
“Yeah, me too,” Merle agreed. “Should do it again sometime.”
Nora nodded her head and smiled.
“Uh, I was thinking,” he started again and paused.
“Yeah?” Nora urged him on, fixing another flyaway strand. Merle lifted his hand and tucked her hair behind her ear, his hand cupping her cheek. He forgot what he was going to ask as he got lost in Nora’s eyes. Suddenly, he felt like he was back on the tractor, she was so close to him again.
“Daryl ain’t around is he?” he whispered as his thumb stroked the soft skin of her cheek. Nora shook her head as her heart began to pick up a fast rhythm. Her eyes glanced to Merle’s lips as he quickly licked them and his face inched closer to her own. A feeling of deja vu came over her for a split second, thinking something would interrupt them again, but the idea went away as quickly as it came when Merle’s lips connected with hers. Nora closed her eyes and sighed at the warmth that ran through her body. Merle’s slightly chapped lips glided over hers and Nora’s body awakened for the first time in years.  The electricity flowing between them couldn't be ignored and Merle let a groan of satisfaction slip from his mouth. Nora wrapped her arms around Merle’s neck, running her hands through the short curls at the base of his neck.
Remembering what he was going to ask, Merle reluctantly broke away from her lips to ask Nora what he had intended.
“Uh, listen,” he started, still in a haze. “I was thinking, the nights are gonna start getting pretty cold out here soon, and I don’t want the kid getting sick. I was thinking...” Merle paused again and cleared his throat. “I want ya both to come move into the house.”
Nora’s mouth fell open. “Really?” she asked.
Merle nodded his head.
Nora smiled and tugged him closer to continue where they left off moments ago. Merle’s hand snaked around Nora’s waist while his other dared to creep lower, resting on her bottom. A faint moan escaped Nora’s mouth. Both needing a breath, they broke apart again huffing in the night air. Merle could feel the blood beginning to flow below his waist, but knew nothing would happen tonight.
“Well, guess we better call it a night. Gotta a lot to do tomorrow,” he said before he could make a fool of himself.
“Ok,” Nora smiled and slowly dropped her arms from him. She turned to open the shed door and paused with her hand on the knob.
“Merle?” she called.
“Yeah?”
Nora walked towards him and lifting on her tiptoes placed a soft, quick kiss to his lips. “Goodnight,” she whispered.
“Night, sugar,” he grinned.
“Sugar? No more darlin?” Nora joked.
“Ya always be my darlin, but I don’t think I’m ever gonna get enough of ya sugar...sugar.”
Nora’s cheeks flushed with warmth and slight embarrassment from the new nickname. “Night,” she giggled and pushed Merle’s chest playfully.
She changed into her nightgown and joined Anna on the bed, but found herself unable to fall asleep. Her thoughts filled not with the terror of a mentally unstable killer, but of the rugged, grumpy farmer who gave her a chance when she needed it most, and somehow snuck his way into her heart.

sparkleharper ~
Who offers their jacket when the other is cold?jared. this smol thing on his side cant be cold, nope he wont allow. his sparkles will keep him warm lol
Who giggles uncontrollably when the other playfully picks them up?idk how many times i can repeat myself, but mads will just. yell. and she cant pick up jared so yep
Who compliments the other in front of everyone?jareddddd. mostly cause thats just what he does tbh. and mads doesnt need to say anything to compliment him in front of everybody tbh, everyone already knows how fantastic the school senpai is lol
Who is more likely to tell the other a pun and what is the other’s reaction to the pun?i think in this case the puns fall on mads to deliver? being the courteous gentleman that he is, jared laughs. pretty much every time, not even depending whether he gets it or not tbh
When one of them has a bad day, what does the other do to help cheer them up?jared puts up a “fashion show” for mads, completed with a photoshoot session of goofy outfits and expressions and googly eyes. when jared needs to distress, mads sits him down, asks him to ramble to her about any recent d&d games and help him plot some really stupid and lighthearted side quests while having a relaxing cup of tea and some kit made cookies
If they got to pick what one another wears for a day, what would one another wear?blue. lots of blue. mads wants jared to wear his blue shirt (”its pretty and its soft and you look so nice in it”) and jared insist she wears one of his shirts (”cause its adorable, they are so big on you”) and her favorite pair of blue jeans. i dont think i need to say why anymore at this point lol
Who introduces their partner to their family first? How does it go?for this, i wanna say mads? jared obviously isnt too keen on introducing anyone to his family, and while mads is very hesitant about this, especially since this is a super well-behaved boy its. gonna get very awkward considering what kind of a bunch of normies my family is mmmm. but jared is a good boio underneath all that rich senpai stuff, so it would probably go very well in the end, actually
In a coffee shop AU, who would be the coffee shop employee and who would be the customer?jared is too pretty to work as a coffee shop employee sssooo hes the customer, and mads is the daydreaming waitress woo
When they sit side by side, do they touch one another? For example, does one person has their arm around the other, do they sit holding hands, or linked arms, ECT.jared definitely. has at least one arm flung around her at like all times. if he needs to be more discreet in like a more public place or whatnot, he holds her hand under the table
What is a small thing that one another does to make their partner happy?jared definitely tries to befriend the stray cats tbh. mads takes his encouragement about herself to heart and whenever jared is feeling down or just generally missing her, she send him little video messages to cheer him on and selfies she wouldnt sent to anyone else cause jared keeps saying he loves seeing her and that makes him happy so dang it shes gonna push past her comfort zone to be more comfortable with herself and make him happy
What would they do to celebrate their one year anniversary?jared would arrange something very elaborate tbh. take her to dinner, possibly see a movie, go to the arcade, win her everything she wants, walks in the moonlight.. literally anything that he can think of, and he would fit it into either one day or over the weekend, if mads seems like shes gonna get exhausted by it
When did they know that loved each other, and when did they first tell each other that they loved one another?i feel like they both had like. hard time actually recognizing when it was love tbh? like yeah mads first falls for him cause of aesthetic reasons, and jared is playing the senpai card of loving every girl, so you cant really tell on the outside when its actually love or when either of them develop like real feelings, but at some point it just. kinda becomes obvious that oh shit i. love this person?? and yeah its jared who definitely says it first tho. its like an offhand remark at first and mads is like ‘what did you say’ and jared repeats it and realizes that oh heck i. actually do mean this??
Who likes to give the other hugs from behind followed by a kiss?jared does this as a combo, mads sneaks in little kisses when hes piggybacking her around tbh
Who would make a playlist for the other person? What would be featured on the playlist?i feel like mads would do that? jared is more about more expensive presents, while mads cant really afford that so she has to pull something selfmade together and yeah, that happens. its mostly like ambient sounds and background music tbh, stuff she thinks will inspire him and what he could use for d&d games and maybe some more upbeat stuff for the fashion shows and for better days
Who would bring their partner on a romantic date under the stars?they could both do this tbh? mads wants to surprise him so she arranges a little cuddling under a blanket while stargazing moment, and jared just does this a lot in general
~~~~~~~~
spaceharper ~
Who offers their jacket when the other is cold?jeff. mom friend habits kick in and they kick in hard. this has also probably been established somewhere in the canon of this route anyways lol
Who giggles uncontrollably when the other playfully picks them up?im gonna keep repeating myself but mads. except that she yells. put her down yall pls
Who compliments the other in front of everyone?mmm i wanna say jeff? but its like. really soft things and its done in almost unnoticeable fashion, like its just really offhand comments like “oh shes so sweet” etc. unless its something that she has given him a permission to share about her writing. then jeff will lose his freaking mind cause eveRYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS THING MY GF DID OMG
Who is more likely to tell the other a pun and what is the other’s reaction to the pun?i’d imagine jeff is more of a pun man out of these two. he does it very casually tho, like most of the time its not on purpose or he doesnt put much emphasis on it, so most of the time mads just misses it. if she gets it tho, she will most likely laugh
When one of them has a bad day, what does the other do to help cheer them up?jeff arranges some cuddle time, with the help of kit builds a blanket fort, gets some scented candles, and they just cuddle up with some strays and play animal intersection. if its jeff that needs destressing, mads will literally cling onto him until he sits down and just takes it easy - which is her cue to throw a blanket on him, get jeff a cup of tea and just sit down and talk about random nonsense with him to make sure he takes a break from everything
If they got to pick what one another wears for a day, what would one another wear?onesies all day every day. jeff in a hamster onesie, and mads in a fox one
Who introduces their partner to their family first? How does it go?jefffffff. i think ive crossed this topic enough times by now tbh lol
In a coffee shop AU, who would be the coffee shop employee and who would be the customer?mmmm i’d say jeff is the customer? i could see him working in a coffee shop tho, but this pair feels better to me with mads behind the counter tho
When they sit side by side, do they touch one another? For example, does one person has their arm around the other, do they sit holding hands, or linked arms, ECT.jeff does what mads feels comfortable at the moment. usually its just limited to hand holding, tho if they are in relax mode, like playing games and mads doesnt wanna be too cuddled up but still wants to be close enough to jeff, there will at least be her legs in his lap
What is a small thing that one another does to make their partner happy?jeff brings sweets and stray cats. hes also always available for cuddles and advice when needed. mads sends him stupid pictures of her with googly eyes and gets him hamster related gifts cause they made her think of him
What would they do to celebrate their one year anniversary?STARGAZING WITH CANDLE LIGHT PICNIC NEXT QUESTION
When did they know that loved each other, and when did they first tell each other that they loved one another?jeff helps her through some rough times and shes like. oh heck i like this boi like. LIKE him. oh dear goodness me what do. jeff comes somewhere afterwards as they spend more time together and thats where the whole ‘you wanna join hidden club’ thing comes along and only after that jeff has it in him to actually tell her how she feels mmmmalso it would. probably actually be mads who tells him first? jeff has hard time opening up about his feelings even if they are there, so it falls on her to confess about it first yay
Who likes to give the other hugs from behind followed by a kiss?both honestly? tho jeff needs to be sitting down for this lol, but yeah they both do it. its just a cute little way to show the other that hey im glad youre here
Who would make a playlist for the other person? What would be featured on the playlist?probably both? with both asking help from luke cause oh my god wHAT DO
Who would bring their partner on a romantic date under the stars?mads? its one of those nights when jeff really needs to destress and she knows how much he likes space and stars and stuff so she basically drags him out to just lay on the grass and stare up at the sky like yes pls jeff tell me about your plan to shoot hamsters into space again tho i mean when you put it like that its not like. super romantic pfff but you know it doesnt need to be romantic as long as it makes him happy
“Beautiful, girl,” He said dreamily, his cigarette dangling out of his mouth precariously. “Pirouette again-- relax your neck more, darling.”
Sonya did as he asked-- the man in question being Alexander. She knew him by no other name, but she didn’t need to. The mere mention of his name was enough to give her butterflies.
There he sat, perched among the dim candlelight of Genie’s Palace. They were closed for now, but were set to open for the night in about half an hour. Sonya glided across the floor, stepping obediently in time to his whispered counting: “One, two, three, four, five, six.” She spun, her gaze glued to the post by the door, whipping around to stare back at it again as she finished her turn. Her feet were bruised, calloused, but her poise was incredible. As she gently dipped down, her leg following in a sweeping motion, Alexander placed a hand over his heart, letting out a sigh. When Sonya came to her finishing pose, her fingers placed just so, he graciously applauded her. She beamed, her cheeks flushed and heart racing.
“Just exquisite.” He murmured, running a hand through his light brown curly hair as he put out his cigarette.
“Exquisite?” Sonya repeated. She was but twelve, and already in love.
“It means…” Alexander pondered it for a moment. “Divine.”
“Divine.” Sonya said, tasting the word with a smile. She knew what that meant-- he had used it before, the last time he had come to visit. The man before her had been visiting since she was about four years old. He himself was a dancer, and took a liking to little Sonya the first time they met. All she knew about him was that he danced, was a frequent customer of her mothers, and that she was madly in love with him.
She still did not fully understand what her mother's job was-- she knew that her mother and all the other ladies flirted with the men who came in, and eventually took them upstairs to flirt with them some more. Sonya was not allowed upstairs, under any circumstances.
“You’d better put all that back before we open.” Herschel said sternly from the bar. She was glaring something fierce at Alexander, referencing how the two of them had shoved all of the chairs and tables to the edge of the room in order to create a makeshift dance floor. “Sonya, darlin, you’ll break your feet, dancin’ on your tippy-toes like that.”
“Never.” Sonya said with a gleeful twirl.
“Is Maria feeling better?” Alexander asked quietly, putting his hat back on.
Herschel didn’t answer at first; it was clear that neither she, nor any of the other girls of the brothel enjoyed Alexander’s presence. “She’s getting better.”
Sonya nodded. “Every day, mother seems to get stronger.”
Alexander placed a hand on her shoulder with a smile. “That’s good. Let her know I asked about her, will you?”
“Alexander,” Herschel sighed. “It’s better if we don’t mention you… for now. Until the sickness passes.”
Alexander said nothing, though Sonya could tell that he was hurt.
“Come, Sonya, let’s put the room back together.” He murmured, giving her a gentle pat.
The town outside the Survey Corps HQ was bustling with activity; it was late in the morning, yet the smell of breakfast food from nearby restaurants steamed the air deliciously. Lining the streets in all directions were carts selling fruits, vegetables, textiles, anything anyone could imagine.
Sonya was unashamedly in love with the surface world-- she had been since she was first brought above for training. Once Captain Levi had given her leave to take the day off, Sonya had changed out of her uniform into her civilian clothes: a simple white top she had sewn herself, with the sleeves coming down just below her elbow, and a deep red skirt that came down just below her knees. She rarely got to wear normal clothes, and while she loved the official demeanor she fell into while in uniform, it felt incredibly freeing to walk amongst the civilians of Trost without their stares and glares influenced by the varying opinions of the Survey Corps.
A little stand featuring whittled figurines caught her eye, and a pang of guilt rushed through Sonya as she thought of Anna. While her friend was rotting away in the forest, torn to pieces, Sonya was enjoying her time in the city. She looked away, already feeling tears stinging the back of her eyes.
“Pardon me, young lady,” An old woman called to her from her stand. Sonya, a little startled, slowly went over to her. “I couldn’t help but notice you look a bit sad.” The woman said, and gestured to her wares. “Perhaps a nice ribbon for your hair will lift your spirits-- I have a red one here that will go wonderfully with your skirt!”
Sonya, a little annoyed that her grief was being exploited for profit, allowed herself to be wooed by material items for the time being, grateful for the distraction.
“It is pretty,” She commented, holding the soft, delicate silk in her hands. Herschel would use ribbons like these to wrap around the back of men’s necks, to lure them closer. She smiled a little at the memory of Herschel teaching her one night, while they were closing up-- it was a funny little gesture, and Sonya remembered pulling away in embarrassment, giggling behind her hand.
“Don’t be shy, dearie!” Herschel laughed. “You’re so pretty, it’s a privilege to look at you up close.”
“You were gonna kiss me!” Sonya had justified, turning scarlet red-- as red as the ribbon. “I don’t know how to kiss.”
“It’s real easy, honey.” Herschel tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Want me to show you?”
And that was Sonya’s first kiss. A little juvenile, silly-- but she enjoyed kissing someone she trusted, and someone who cared for her deeply. For a fleeting moment, Sonya wondered what Herschel was up to now; she hoped she was still alive, at the very least.
“I’ll take it.” Sonya smiled. The old woman was delighted, but as Sonya reached into her bag to pay, a certain something caught her eye. “Wait,” She said. “How much for that?”
Maria took a lazy drag of her cigarette, her head resting in her hand as she stared out the window of the kitchen absently. There she and Sonya sat, at the table after Genie’s Palace had just closed. The street lamp flickered outside, giving some sort of semblance of atmosphere to their world. Sonya’s hands were folded in her lap, looking down in shame, as her cheek stung red from the strike of the woman who sat before her.
“You should’ve known,” Maria said finally, tapping the ash off of her cigarette. “Men who come in here… none of them are good.”
Sonya said nothing; she just bit her lip.
“He tried to use you, make you seem like you were better than this place.” Maria shook her head. “Down here, nobody is better than anybody. Remember that.”
“He said he could take me up there.” Sonya muttered, glancing at her sack of belongings by the door. A symbol of her failure to run away.
“What you say?” Maria said sharply, hooking Sonya with her drunken glare. After a moment, Sonya bravely met the eyes of her mother.
“He said I could be a dancer up there.” She repeated. “He said I have talent.” At sixteen, Sonya had only gotten more beautiful-- a clear mark of danger, being where she was.
“Oh, is that what he said?” Maria nodded. “Well, he said he loved me, and look where that got us.”
“...What?” Sonya’s voice cracked.
“Got us nothin’ but what we already have. He’s back up there… wooing some other poor girl into his sack.” Maria took another drag. “Men like him, they don’t keep their secrets. They don’t tell the truth. They just look at ya for as long as yer pretty, and when they get bored…” She took a swig of her dark drink, “they leave.”
Sonya sat in silence. She looked down, at her bruised and calloused feet. Her sore legs, arms-- the scuffed floors, everything around her was a mark of Alexander. She loved him… she loved him. And as she sat, wondering where her identity was if not strapped to him, she slowly realized that he did not and never would love her back.
[-]
The sun was setting by the time Sonya returned to HQ-- just in time for dinner. She trotted up the steps that led to the dining hall, and once she was inside, she decided she might make a cup of tea before she went to eat.
Walking down the hallway towards the small kitchen area where the tea was housed, she noticed that the door to it was slightly ajar; and inside, a candle was lit. As she came closer, she heard familiar voices speaking in hushed tones inside. Curiously, Sonya pushed the door open slowly and poked her head in.
Hange, Erwin, Levi, Eld and Moblit all sat at the table, leaning in to each other intently. As soon as Sonya was noticed, they halted their conversation and stared at her in surprise.
“Oh,” Sonya said, surprised to find them all gathered in there during dinner. She suspected she had stumbled into a conversation she should not have. “Um, I’m sorry-- excuse me…” She turned to leave.
“I told you we should have moved to Erwin’s office.” Levi sighed.
“No, wait,” Hange said, “everyone will find out tomorrow, anyway. Right, Erwin?”
“She’s trustworthy.” Moblit said, and Sonya got the feeling that she probably didn’t want to know what they were discussing, anyway. “And Hange’s probably going to explode if she doesn’t at least tell someone.”
“Really, it’s fine; I can go.” Sonya insisted.
But everyone waited on Erwin. He was staring at Sonya, studying her, with his hands folded on the table, his back straight. His expression betrayed nothing, and the more he looked at her, the smaller she felt. She shifted her feet, and couldn’t help but steal a glance at Levi, ever the picture of relaxation.
After an eternity, Erwin nodded.
“Oi, just close the door behind you, would you?” Levi said. “And be smarter than Moblit this time, and lock it behind you.”
Sonya smiled at that, amused to see her squad leader shoot a glare at Levi. She obediently sat after closing and locking the door, plopping her bag of wares beside her. Levi’s gaze followed her as she sat, his arms folded over his chest comfortably while a cup of tea sat steaming in front of him.
“Enjoy your day off, did you?” He murmured, though he didn’t seem judgmental-- perhaps pleased with himself?
“Very much.” Sonya nodded. “Thank you, again.”
Levi rolled his eyes. “Don’t mess up your uniform on purpose in the hopes I’ll give you another day off.” He warned.
“Wouldn’t dream of it, sir.” Sonya couldn’t seem to stop smiling.
Hange cleared her throat, her eyes darting between the two of them excitedly. “All right, can I tell her?”
“Hurry it up.” Levi scoffed.
“Sonya,” Hange said, almost buzzing with energy. “Our next expedition, which will take place in two weeks’ time, is going to be… historic.”
“Okay…” Sonya said cautiously.
“In two weeks, Sonya…” Hange clasped her hands together. “We will set out on an expedition to capture a titan!”
Boyfriend Minhyuk
A/N: this was requested so long ago omg im so sorry that this took me this long! But i did it! I hope u like it!
Highkey fuckin annoying
Dramatic™
Bothers you allllllllll the time
Sometimes to be cute sometimes just to piss u off
Depends on how bored he is and how mischevious hes feeling
Always texting and callin u
Doesnt matter if hes got nothing to say he just wants to know what ur up to even if ur not doing anything
Sends u hella selfies and expects hella selfies back
Doesnt care if ur sitting on the toilet just show him a pic of ur face
Hates being ignored but will ignore u if u piss him off
Which hardly ever happens tbh bc hes super chill and easy going so it takes a lot to piss him off
He really only gets mildly annoyed with u but doesnt go much further than that
Mostly bc u back off when he does that stare where hes trying not to look annoyed but he u and sticks his tongue in his cheek
Thats when u know u better chill before he gets super upset
Tells u he loves u in the most cheesy way he can think of bc he likes the way u get all flustered when ur embarrassed
Tells u while doing aegyo or greasing up to u or singing it to u while down on one knee and holding ur hand out in public so everyone can see
And ur like omfg minhyuk can u chill i get it u love me
Wont stop embarrassing u until u also proclaim ur love for him
Then will try and make out with u on the spot
AFFECTIONATE always playing with ur hair or pinching ur cheeks and telling u how cute and pretty u are
Like what he does to the other members mostly jooheon tho
LIKE THAT ONE GIF WHERE HES RUNNING HIS FINGERS THROUGH JOOHEONS HAIR AND CALLING HIM PRETTY
Theres a reason why all the other members go to him to be cheered up hes rly fuckin good at it
Hes described as the mood maker in the group and its the same with ur relationship
Minhyuk is such a bright and cheerful person that its so easy to get consumed by it
Its honestly so refreshing especially if ur like me and spend the whole day in a sorta dull haze
Having Minhyuk around is that feeling right after u finished spring cleaning and u get to sit down and enjoy ur clean house and relax with a cup of tea or something
Always happy and energetic and it rubs off on u so ur always smiling around him
Sometimes it does get a little overwhelming but hes so good at reading ur emotions that when he sees that its becoming too much for u he will calm down immediately
Hes hella extroverted too so hes always gonna wanna go out for dates
Like lets go out to the amusement park! Or the zoo! Or the aquarium! Lets go somewhere!
And ur like ……..minhyuk pls its 9am can we eat first
Then minhyuks like oh yes food! Oh where should we go? Oh lets go to this cafe! It has dogs!
Everything is an adventure with him he always makes the most mundane things exciting and fun idk how he does it but im jealous
Said he likes chubby girls so hes gonna always wanna get food tbh
Asking u if u have eaten when he sees u
Offering to buy u food all the time even if u have eaten
He just wants to make sure ur eating well doesnt care if u gain weight
If u complain about ur weight hes gonna give u a detailed analysis on why ur beautiful plus make a whole album dedicated to u accepting ur body the way it is and ending it with food and making sure ur eating well
Into alllllllll the pda
Kisses u
holds ur hand
hugs u
does everything
Minhyuk had absolutely no shame he will grab ur ass in public he does not care
Especially if someone is eyeing u up then he will literally grab and squeeze an entire handful of ur ass while making eye contact with that person like thats right bitch this is mine dont even think about it
The jealous type
Like hes a scorpio even if he seems chill with everything he will get jealous
And he gets petty when hes jealous bc hes a snake
Like i said he will shamelessly grope u in front of whoever just to prove a point
Will probably apologise later if it makes u uncomfortable and will try and not let it get to him but yeah probs not
Once whoever was makin eyes at u is gone hes back to normal
And ur just like bitch pick a mood goddamn ur giving me whiplash
Likes it when u baby him
Bc hes a big baby and just wants to cuddles and kissed
Gets whiny when u baby him to the point where u roll ur eyes
But ur not gonna stop babying him bc hes cute when hes like that even if it is exasperating
Dont tell him tho bc then he will never stop acting like that and it will get real old real fast
Sings to u!!!
Whenever u ask and even when u dont he will sing to u
Like full on serenades u sometimes and makes a whole show out of it and makes u laugh
The two of u have stupid little debates over everything if ur very opinionated like him
Not in a mean way its always just minor disagreements that sometimes get too loud
It why the rest of monsta x doesnt like hanging out with the two of u lmao
Well that and minhyuk is all over u all the time
Probably a sadist honestly
Minhyuk is chaotic neutral on a good day but when hes in a mood hes in a mood
Obviously hes gonna get the okay from u and set boundaries and stuff bc at the end of the day ur well being is the most important
But man once he does he jumps in head first
Teases u til u start crying and just smirks at u mocking ur tears
Like when he eats u out he will only use the tip of his tongue or just play with ur pussy
Enough to stimulate u but not enough to get u off
Degradation is his shit he loves to demean u if ur okay with it Its such a stark contrast from how loving he is during the day that u sometimes wonder how hes the same person
Makes u choke on his cock bc its fun watching u gag and seeing ur eyes water as i struggle to swallow his entire length down ur throat
The type to dabble into all sorts of weird shit if ur cool with it
Honestly its such a turn on when he turns into a snake and decides that he doesnt give a fuck about anyone but himself
No? Just me? Cool alright but he takes that approach with sex
Not all that rough tbh just very meticulous in how hes going to wreck u
He will u tease u to tears then use u to get off and be like alright that was fun goodnight and leave u high and dry
Ur not allowed to get urself off either sorry u gotta wait for when minhyuk wants u to cum good luck
When he does tho he goes in
Its borders on overstimulation bc he will make u cum seven times in one night if hes left u hanging for like two weeks
Will probably just keep going til u pass out
Bright side is the next morning u wake up feeling refreshed and minhyuk is there to take care of u in the soft loving way
ANYWAY MINHYUK IS SO SOFT AND LOVING BUT ALSO A LITTLE SHIT WHO LIKES TO MAKE U SQUIRM
BUT HE LOVES U AND WANTS THE BEST FOR U ALWAYS
SOMETIMES HES LIKE THE SUN BUT THATS OKAY BC U NEED THAT TO SURVIVE
APPRECIATE MINHYUK AND STAN MONSTA X
