OKAY PERCY JACKSON EPISODE 6 THOUGHTS (long post)

i was definitely a bit weary of the big changes: the fact that the summer solstice deadline passed and that percy gets 4 pearls. but after thinking about it for a while i think im actually okay with it!! first of all, its making the show interesting for book readers bc they caught me off guard and now we don’t 100% know how it’s going to play out lol

but also, i like that the deadline passing raises the stakes a bit more. the fact that percy still wants to go get the bolt from the underworld, just shows how committed he’s become to the actual goal of the quest and starting to embrace his demigod side. and it’s going to make his trip to olympus at the end so much riskier & dangerous considering a whole war is literally about to start. so im okay with this

and then the 4 pearls: i still don’t think they’re going to be able to take sally with them out of the underworld. something is definitely going to happen to 1 of the pearls, it’s going to get lost in the chaos of them making it to hades’ palace or SOMETHING because a big part of the prophecy is “fail to save what matters most in the end”. they have to leave sally behind and i think it’s going to be so much more heartbreaking that percy HAD 4 pearls and HAD the chance to save his mom but they lost 1 along the way so then they’ll have to make the tough decision and TRULY fail to save what matters most… bc in the book it’s not even really an option since he only gets 3 pearls

obviously i could be wrong about that lol but i don’t think there’s any way they don’t leave sally behind because she’s not there on the beach when they’re about to fight ares, which is where they are directly after the underworld (unless they’ve switched the order around but idk how that would work)

other than that I LOVED EVERYTHING with the trio, the bestieism continues and i love it. you can really see the shift in percy and annabeth’s dynamic after the last episode it’s so cute. the little grover and percy moments were so sweet too, their convos felt RIGHT out of the books to me. also MORE SEAWEED BRAIN AND WISE GIRL!!!

LOVE the dream sequence bc it felt so book accurate, we do get a lot of percy witnessing other people’s convos through his dreams and this is the first time we’ve seen it in the show, it was great

luke immediately jumping at the chance to blame clarisse for stealing the bolt in the iris message lol im laughing

more luke/annabeth sibling set up AND hermes and may and luke backstory set up??? i was NOT expecting that so early on but im deeply obsessed

the whole hermes situation was also great… i can’t believe it but i liked LMM’s performance?? i think he sold it really well. again im so excited to be getting these convos about hermes and luke so early on because it is such a key part to the end of the series.

the conversation with percy and the nereid and the way percy reacts to thinking the quest failed??? the way he refuses to give up?? the nereid saying they all see so much of poseidon in him??? i’m unwell

crying at annabeth pick pocketing hermes, the literal god of thieves, that’s my girl fr

the entire cab driving sequence was just so funny. peak comedy, and brought some lightheartedness to the episode that i think was very needed. the new yorker in percy really came out in that scene lmao

there was just SO MANY hilarious moments of dialogue and jokes between the trio i feel like this episode captured the essence of their dynamic from the books so well

overall LOVED it, wish it was longer, and i’m curious to see how they finish it off in the next 2 episodes. i’m trying my best to hold back the criticism for any changes until we’ve seen the whole season, because i think most complaints people have from this ep will probably just be fixed or addressed in the next 2 lol

I have said this before and I will say it again that you are the best writer in the whole universe. Your stories are so good. You're not like other writer's at all. I've read yandere stories and the problem is they turn psychotic the moment they see the girl but I like how your book has buildup for each and every character. Posiedon character is written so well Omg. Loved the new chapter. I'm a posy shipper but I want to see Apollo meet percy.

so yeah, a good portion of the love interests here are medium to slow burn and there's only i think 2 fast-burns (hades & apollo) and even then i plan to flesh things out later on

The Riordan Verse has a new book coming out that's focused solely on Nico and Will! Which I couldn't be more thrilled and excited about! It's called "The Sun and The Star" and I'm sooo ready for it. Like completely. And so I'm my excitement, I'm making a post dedicated to my 2 favorite Riordan Verse ships, Percabeth and Solangelo, because they are amazing 😍

Starting with Nico and Will, because it's their book that's coming out soon! They are the epitome of the golden retriever puppy and black cat trope. Lol i love it. And i fully anticipate and plan to add to this with quotes/moments between them that I love from the new book too. Also I'd hope it wouldn't need to be said, but spoilers for all PJO books from this point on, just to be on the safe side. If you don't want possible spoilers, don't read further!

They gave up immortality for each other, Annabeth was the only person/thing Percy remembered when Hera wiped his memory and he forgot everything else, even who he was, they fell into Hell for each other, literally. Annabeth was who Percy thought of to keep him tethered to life. Annabeth jumped in front of a knife for Percy. I mean honestly. I love them so much. And I love seeing snippets of them through others eyes in the later book series too.

I'm doing a Riordan Verse reread binge soon because both a TV show and a new book will be coming soon and my heart is soooo happy! These were some of my favorite books when I was younger snd they mostly still hold up as amazing even now!

GAMES (And DLCs) PLAYED 2023!!

10. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. I am NOT! The Visual Novel enjoyer. BUT MAN!! WHAT A DELIGHT!! It honestly brought be around in the genre again after DR3 muddied my enjoyment of it. Totally unexpected and so so SO enjoyable. Which is why I’m giving it a spot on the top 10! Play this game!! It’s free and awesome! I’ve even had people with know knowledge of Sonic tell me they liked this game! I’m serious! Go play it!!!

9. Bastion! LOVED this one! A beautiful game! I honestly don’t have much more to say on it though because it’s kinda just another really good game from Supergiant. I love how many styles of combat exist as options in this game, like, more than Hades had which felt like a lot compared to Transistor (which also had a lot of cool options but you can only use a sword so many ways). Good game! 8/10! Definitely recommend!

8. Frospoken. I’m being generous to this one because despite the super lackluster story. THIS WAS SO FUCKING FUN TO PLAY!!! I literally had such a blast with this one!! The abilities made running around the world so so so fun!! Of course I am disappointed that it didn’t live up to my expectations after following its development through the years, but honestly, they can’t all be bangers and I’m fine with that. Some games are just fun and have sick as fuck boss fights, and sometimes that’s all I need. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it though.

7. Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon. Okay I didn’t think they were gonna fully redo an entire level of the game. When they said “new story content” I thought that was gonna be like four new basically Cyber Space levels and that’s it. ALSO IM SORRY!! I’M SORRY FOR COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY I’LL BE DIFFERENT NEXT TIME. All in all it was solid as hell. Like I’ve always said with Frontiers, this one GETS Sonic. This is what it’s all about. But Christ this was hard to beat….

6. Kingdom Hearts. The first one. BANGER!!! SUPER FUCKING CUTE. Also Cloud and Yuffie are there :]]]!!! The whole concept of Final Fantasy meets Disney still feels like an absolute buck wild concept to turn into such a well beloved franchise but hey! It’s good shit!! My favorite level overall was probably the Little Mermaid one! I love unique level mechanics!! Excited to play more of these games next year!

5. Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Cannot believe I delayed playing this one for so long! IT WAS SO GOOD!! These games are doing so right by my boys Miles and Ganke. The Spider-Verse movies could never (Taking shots at my own favorite movies). I’m REALLY glad I didn’t skip this before 2 came out. I loved the side quests on this one most of all! Really made you feel like a Friendly Neighbor Spider-Man instead of just Spider-Man. Also Haley I love you so much my sweet girl Haley :]

4. Destiny 2: Lightfall. This might be the lowest a D2 expansion has scored on this list in years. But that’s entirely because the other games this year were FUCKING SWEEET! But GOD. UAGH. I LOVED THIS ONE!!!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!! WHAT THE HELL… Nimbus my best friend Nimbus. AND GRAPPLING HOOK??? YEAHHHHH!!! God Strand is a fun subclass. It definitely doesn’t beat Stasis for me right now but it is SOOOOOOO FUNNNNNN. I loveee itttt. It was so exciting to start unraveling more about the Witness. Also the seasons this year? Mostly bangers!! We got a Pirate Season AND a Dragon Season?!?! WOOOOO!!!!!

3. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. MOTHER!!! FUCKING!!!!!! DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!! DRAGONS!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! DRAGON BOSS FIGHT!!! WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO! 10/10 THIS GAME ROCKS. BEST ZELDA GAME. DRAGONSS!!!!!!!

2. Lethal Company! God this game rules. Enough to surpass the other games on this list purely because it’s gotten me through this whole month. It’s designed in a way that it’s always fun to come back to and it’s just been hours of fun with my besties! Plus it looks fucking stellar. Literally peak. 10/10, cannot recommend this one enough.

1. SPIDA-MAN!!!!!! 2!!!!!!!!!!!! Was so fucking good HOOOLLLYYYYY SHIT! I literally have raved on and on about this game and honestly I could just keep going. The gameplay was PHENOMENAL!!! The characters were so good. It was SUCH a good take on the Black Suit and Venom AND a really cool take on Kraven’s Last Hunt!!!!!!!!! Literally I couldn’t have asked for more from this game! It’s earned a spot as one of my all time favorites!!! :D

im very excited avout my new d&d campaign im running (session 0 is scheduled for this weekend)

and this is the only platform i dont have any of my players on

so everyone here is going to get the full force of my DM hype since i have no one else to gush to bc all of the people i could talk to are players in the campaign

for starters, i have first time players (4 to be exact), 2 people who have played before (one who played 1st edition and one whos played 5e a few times), and 1 person who is a veteran (my sister who has been gaming as long as i have)

so far, everyone has made pretty cool characters, with really in depth backstories (even the newbies which is great!) and theyre all super excited. when i told them today that yes im ready to run through session 0 this weekend everyone about shrieked with excitement so the hype is very real

right now, their party consists of:

>a wood elf cleric

>a halfling bard

>a dwarf barbarian

>a half-elf fighter (eldritch knight path, so magic)

>a tabaxi fighter

>a dragonborn (bronze dragon) fighter

>a kenku ranger

a very muscle heavy party, but thats not necessarily a bad thing since a lot of them picked different backgrounds and have different things in their backstories thay give them various excess skills

i have also given everyone a trinket, and they all immediately tied it into their backstories with so much enthusiasm i honestly was kind of impressed. so much hype

session 0 is mainly going to be firstly making sure they have all of their equipment, followed by doing a mini-flashback for each of them what happened just before they got to the starting location, and we'll work from there with a minor encounter just to get everyone on the same page of how combat works (esp considering a lot of them are new to the game/5e)

now to finish my notes for the start of the campaign, but the hype is real. they already hade so much excitement just making their characters and we havent even started yet. so this will be a very fun campaign

Kinda didn’t expect a death stranding 2 tbh Was that... the backstory for the weird baby from the first game? alright IS THAT A METAL GEAR????? no it’s a big fucking hovercraft EVIL GUITAR PERSON??????? what the fuck is death stranding about

Okay I don’t like that there are title cards for all the trailers. I would’ve been taken by surprise to see a new armoured core game.  dude I fucking love rubicon mango juice.  anyway this game looks fucking awesome (in terms of explosions and cool looking robots) i’m just wondering if it’s gonna be a soulslike? I have no idea what the old armoured core games played like so. It’s a numbered entry in the series so i’d guess it’s going to be in-line with previous games? Anyway no gameplay shown so I can’t really get hyped.

7 Anti LO Asks

1. Do you know what really gets my blood boiling about this comic? Persephone and Demeter's relationship.

In the myths, Demeter and Persephone loved each other more than anything. Their reunion is so important - it marked the coming of spring and growth. A whole cult was dedicated to this for crying out loud. Yes, the myths were far from perfect, but the Persephone and Demeter myth showed the strength of a loving mother-daughter relationship with Demeter searching endlessly to find her child that was ripped away and had her innocence forcibly taken.

Now, RS is not the only author to make Demeter this over-bearing mother type in order to put more positivity onto the Hades-Persephone relationship. However, RS takes this trend to a whole new level - to the point where I would even consider it misogyny.

How is it, she takes this beautiful mother-daughter relationship and makes it out to be an abusive and controlling one, and then takes the Hades-Persephone relationship from a forceful one to a loving, perfect relationship with no problems? How is it ok to ruin one relationship to elevate another?

I understand that many versions of the myth try to downplay Hades' actions, and even make it so Persephone actually falls in love with him and there is no rape. But it doesn't change that this relationship was problematic, and meant to represent the loss of innocence.

Then fans have the gall to claim this comic is feminist and then claim on top of that that Demeter and Persephone's relationship was the same in the myth? These fans clearly don't know the myths, and neither does RS.

Making Hades a good person is fine. Changing it up a bit to make Persephone's loss of innocence something else is also fine. But ruining Demeter and Persephone's relationship? Especially when Persephone has to spend half the year with her? So horrible. 

2. im sorry, but rachel cant introduce KRONOS coming back and then dropping it for several episodes to focus on a stake-less trail and persephone not knowing what lingerie to seduce hades in. like thats too much of an earth shaking development and huge stake plot point to just ignore for months to focus instead on something as minor as hxp's relationship, which only points out a huge flaw: why is hxp's relationship so minor in this? isnt the whole point supposed to be about them?

3. I think LO completely dropped the ball over Hades’ characterization. 

From the first ep I thought ok, this is good, we have some bones to see he’s not that lucky in love and is just tired and lonely, and while ignoring the creepy actions towards Persephone, I thought ok, Artemis hates him, Hestia hates, even Ares hates him, maybe once Persephone finally sees the underworld and probably gets to know him it’ll be a clever twist and they’ll be proven wrong. The underworld will turn out to be fair and just, the citizens will love Hades, he’ll be revealed to be a good leader and king and not like his brothers, it’ll be like everyone saying Hades of myth isn’t actually that bad, and it’ll help reinforce why this sweet and bubbly Persephone wants him, she sees the real him, not the mean rumors and assumptions, this is perfect.

And then it just didn’t happen. The exact opposite happened, actually.

We’re shown the LO underworld is cruel and unjust, where the poor dead are forced into slavery and Hades created a harsh class divide with him and him only on top, the citizens hate him, the underworld gods don’t trust him and openly seem ok if he’s taken out of power, he’s not a good leader and king and doesn’t even want the job yet keeps it for his own ego and grip of power m, and on top of it all he is just like his brothers, if not worse. He loves to get violent over any little slight against him, he hoards wealth and resources to enrich himself while his citizens starve and struggle to survive, he’s corrupt, he controls all the media and laws to bend to his will, sleeps with his brothers wife for centuries behind his back while claiming to be holier than thou, he has sex with his secretaries who are made dependent on him for any way to survive, and now he lusts after his barely legal intern who is also now dependent on him for her way to survive, and that’s only what I remember off the top of my head.

LO perfectly set up to prove Hades isn’t the devil or the false pop culture assumption that he’s evil and to show some actual facts from myth, and yet Rachel only ended up reinforcing exactly that and even making him even worse with her made up ideas, all while thinking having Persephone ignore or excuse it somehow makes it not bad or even a good thing. It’s honestly kind of impressive just how bad of writing that actually is. 

4. Chapter 172 is not that interesting. It’s setup had me excited to see Hephaestus and Hera and learning more about echo, but it’s cut so short. Because again the story can’t leave HXP out for 2 seconds.

I can also see why Zeus is gonna go insane. 

5. i agree w/ other anon. LO should have pulled a PJO or a BoZ and just made up OCs and have them interact with the gods than whatever Rachel thinks shes doing, which is lying she's being accurate and faithful while completely changing all of it, removing what is needed, and adding what isnt so that it lines up with no actual myth besides like, various 50 shades fanfic she read in 2015 and some popular tumblr text posts.

6 . the animation studio behind blood of zeus literally can only draw one face for the men and one face for the women and they were still able to make the gods all look distinct and hot while LO can't even bother to use more than 6 colors and can only have the women look as tiny as possible with the biggest boobs while the men are all just lego men.

Okay so like I stopped reading LO way back before season 1 ended, and a majority of my knowledge of the series comes from what I read here on your blog which is enough for me lol and I decided to read the latest 5 chapters just to see what's up (on zahard. I refuse to give the actual series any views)

And I just. Could not take the whole scene with Daphne running from Apollo seriously? The anatomy and art inconsistency was so distracting that i genuinely could not find it serious. Even when Thanatos discovers her hibernated body I couldn't take it seriously because of how she looked?

And when Hades had that call (??? Was it a call? Or his inner dialogue? I couldn't really tell ngl) with Zeus and said he's causing Persephone unnecessary distress, and that she didn't pose any threat. B!tch??? She killed a ton of mortals??? She has no control over her powers???? She's literally a fugitive for the aforementioned things??? She apparently woke Kronos up? (Idk if anyone knows about that, again my knowledge only spans to whatever I read here) Hello????

And I have a lot to say about the chapters starting the trial but I'll only mention one thing; Hades saying "I don't think blindly supporting my little brother would be doing him any favours (as a ruler)" had me cackling. This is coming from a guy blindly supporting a girl he's literally only known for a few weeks, who's like what, only recently turned 20? Sit tf down Hades you're not cool, you creepy ass overgrown smurf.

Overall I still hate this series lmao. Regarding art though I feel like I wouldn't be so miffed about the anatomy much if the character designs were consistent and the story was compelling. They literally change hairstyles and body types frame by frame, and it's distracting.

The timeline from what I read here is laughable. 4 years in publication with almost 200 chapters and you're telling me only like a month has passed canonically. That's wild and such poor writing.

And as someone who literally will sympathise with any lead character pretty quickly, the story makes me hate them. It makes me want to root against them. I also hate the fact this trash is somehow top ranked on webtoons when so many other stories are far better then it.

Chapter Summary: When Hera gets into a car accident after a fight, Zeus has a moment to ruminate on their relationship. Written using the song “Wait” by Maroon 5 as a prompt.

I’ve been having trouble with this chapter for a very long time, so I’ve decided to post it snippet-by-snippet, because that seems like the only way I’ll successfully finish this fic. 

While this should be as close to the final version as it can be, anything in this snippet is subject to change when the full chapter comes out. (And, hey, to that end, if there’s anything you think needs to be edited here, please kindly let me know!!)

Chapter 2 Snippets 1, 2 & 3:

Hera was standing in the crowded meadow, surrounded by her friends, laughing that girly little giggle full of sunshine that just about made Zeus’ heart ooze in a puddle out of his chest.

Her blue dress made her eyes look like two shimmering sapphires.

“Have I seen her in a dress that color?” Zeus inquired excitedly from behind the bushes.

“How can we know what you’ve seen?” Aidoneus muttered. “With you creeping around, you might have seen her naked for all we know.”

Zeus punched him in the arm, (lightly).

“I don’t think she’s worn a dress that color!” Posiedon bubbled.

“Thank you, Posiedon. At least someone can answer a question.”

“I think she looks like the sea on summer day.” He put his hands on his face, them sliding slowly.

Zeus eyed him. “Alright, keep it in your toga, Little Green Man.”

“Should we really be here?” Aidoneus muttered. “We weren’t invited.”

“Oh come on,” Zeus stood up, putting his hands on his hips. “Who wouldn’t want to see the King of the gods here?”

Poseidon grinned and stood up behind his brother. “No one!”

“Hestia, Demeter… assorted sane people.” Hades muttered as he stood to follow.

“If that’s sanity I’m glad I’m insane.” Zeus trilled as he strutted up to the entrance.

A cute pink nymph—(rather well endowed in the chestal region—not that he noticed!)—greeted them at the archway.

“Oh! Zeus!” She flushed and bowed. “It’s an honor. Welcome!”

“Why it’s an honor to meet you, my lady.” He kissed her hand, and she giggled. “See?” he turned to his brothers. “They’re delighted to have us.”

“I’ve got a bad feeling.” Hades muttered.

Hera was closer now; she smelled like summer, and she looked like it too. Poseidon was right about the ocean thing; she practically shimmered as she spoke with her friends.

“I’m gonna go talk to her.”

“Wait—!” Hades was soon swallowed by the crowd.

Zeus scooched behind her at lightning speed. One by one her friends began to take notice, their eyes widening.

Hera took a step back and would have tripped in surprise if he hadn’t caught her.

“Careful there, you might fall, Birthday Girl.”

“Oh, Zeus!” She looked up at him, the back of her head hitting his chest, “hi!”

That golden smile.

“I made you something!” As she spun to face him, he produced a little carving of a bird from his pocket. (And, no, he didn’t make it).

“Oh!” She pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, gently taking it from him, “It’s beautiful!”

All his responsibilities and stresses melted away with the sight of that smile, and he forgot there was anyone else at the party…in the world.

(…He wished he saw that smile anymore.)

Zeus’ chair was spinning empty at his desk before his assistant could say another word—

And Olympus wept, distant peals of thunder rending the sky into pieces.

Lightning crackled and cackled through his hair, creating violet tracks through the air, as Zeus sped through the sky.

It was freezing, and people were staring, but he didn’t care.

All that mattered was getting to his wife.

“My you look stunning.” Zeus sidled up behind his wife, running his fingers gently along her arm. “Is that a new dress?”

“New as that girlfriend of yours.” Hera grunted.

His eyes widened with shock, his voice with an indignant undertone to it. “Is something wrong?”

She paused a moment. He could see words fluttering behind her lips—(like they did so often, too often)—the words Yes you did something wrong, how can you not know?

He knew she wouldn’t believe him when he said he didn’t mean to hurt her.

“You weren’t invited,” she said softly.

“Not invited? Me?” He put his hand to his chest, like the thought of him ever not being welcome to somewhere was absurd. “To what?”

“The party, you nitwit!” She whirled around, her hair nearly whipping him in the face. “You just came barging in like you owned the place!”

“Well…to be fair—”

He stopped short at the look in her eyes, like two blue-hot flames.

He knew it was taking her a great amount of effort not to slap him.

“Do you know how long I’d been preparing for that?! How long it took me to get everything just right? I told you, but you never even listened, did you? And then you just barged right in!”

“Why are you so upset? What’s so important about a party?!”

“They were my friends.” Her gaze softened, and her tone became more serious. “They were—” Until she cut herself off, and her expression hardened as she whirled around, her hair billowing behind her.

“Bunny, wait!” His tone was softer too.

He wished she’d just turn around. That he could say sorry.

Was it really so hard? He should have started there.

Had he ever apologized for that?

He was always doing that; barging in where he wasn’t welcome. The world was his, yes but…he had to concede there were some parts of it he ought not just barge in on.

When he burst into the hospital, however, they wouldn’t dare tell him he wasn’t invited, wouldn’t dare tell him he couldn’t see her.

“Where. is my. wife?” Lightning slammed into a lamppost just outside the front door, shattering its glass box, and making the light spark, the rain pounding at the window like rabid dogs.

The desk clerk looked like she was about to pee out of sheer fear.

“Sh-sh-she’s not out of surgery yet, your majesty...I understand you want to see her, but I can’t let you…until-until they’re finished.” She was practically vibrating. “I assure you the moment she gets out, we’ll notify you.”

Surgery? He wanted to demand. She’s the queen of the gods, how could she be in surgery?

Electricity sparked in his eyes, trailing throughout his hair. He could say I demand you let me see her. He could say I don’t care! She’s my wife, and I’m not waiting! She’s fine! She’s the queen—she’s my queen—she won’t be hurt from a little car accident!

But there were some places he ought not just barge in on… and the surgeons room was probably one of them.

The lightning let out a sighing crackle, before he closed his eyes, his hair falling back upon his shoulders. It was then that he noticed he was dripping wet from head to toe. He sighed himself before muttering something like a garbled “I understand, thank you.” And turning to sit in the lobby. Behind him the desk clerk’s coworker held her to keep her from fainting.

He snapped his fingers, drying off, so as not to get their nice, barf-colored carpet all wet. Once he sat down in a chair—(the cushions didn’t have any cush to them)—a kid in the chair across from him scooched away.

He could have that kid lightly charred if he wanted.

Instead he settled for a nice glare, and reached over to pick up last month’s—(or maybe it was a few months ago)—issue of  “Goddess weekly” listening to the rain die down to a drum.

The same old gossip. Usually if he picked one of these up he’d check for any news he ought to be aware of. You know, as the king. Not to mention the ladies weren’t unappealing. Now he flicked through without seeing any of it.

Speaking of ladies, there was a nymph sitting across the room from him, her skin blue, her ears down, and a cute little half smile. She surely wasn’t in here for anything serious. She kept glancing from her own magazine to him—but not in a nervous way. If he wasn’t mistaken, she wouldn’t be opposed to a session of hide-the-German-sausage.

If he wanted he could take her there in a darkened closet in the hallway. It wouldn’t take long—(if it didn’t need to…or it could take all night). That would be a nice way to relieve the stress bubbling in his body.

—Someone was laying next to him, her skin smooth, practically glowing. There was rather a lot of it exposed.

She turned over, her eyes fluttering open, a small smile creasing her features as she rolled onto his chest, tickling his chin with her fingers.

“I had a wonderful time,” she twittered, and he practically purred, staring into those big blue eyes, glittering like river stones.

He pushed her green hair behind her ear.

“Is that all? I’d like to think a night with the King of the gods would be more than merely ‘wonderful.’”

She giggled. “No no, it was much more than wonderful! It was spectacular! Mind-blowing!” She threw her arms in the air.

“That’s more like it.” He grinned—

When was that again? Two years ago, or two days ago?

It could have been either.

Had he apologized for that?

Would it have mattered if he had? Would she have forgiven him? Would he have stopped?—

Bile rose in his throat, and he dove his nose so hard into the magazine he almost smacked himself with it.

His wife was bruised and bleeding, and potentially worse in a nearby room, at the mercy of some quack holding a scalpel and a few comforting words…and here he was thinking of betraying her for the…

How many times had it been now?

He threw the magazine back on the table and sank in the chair till his head was nearly on the bottom cushion, his lip flapping his he blew out a breath, making his hair fly up a little.

The kid and his mom got called, and seemed glad of a reason to leave.

After a healthy dose of moping he pulled out his phone. After checking fatesbook and playing a few games he decided it was time to open his messages.

He didn’t want to be alone. He wanted some sensible and non-conjugal company.

He scrolled through and clicked on a name.

A number of old conversations sprinkled the page, often detailing Zeus asking about getting together and the correspondent saying they were busy.

He thought a moment about what to say—(a rare occurrence for him)—before deciding any vague requests would probably get ignored, so he simply decided the boldfaced truth:

Hera’s been in a car accident. She’s in surgery.

“WHAT?!” The word was spoken aloud—and very loudly at that.

Hades was standing in front of him. If the king being here wasn’t enough reason for weird looks, this outburst had sent more than a few eyes their way.

Zeus did a finger wave at the nymph, before he grabbed his brother’s arm, whisking him off to a less crowded hallway.

The only thing here was a vending machine, and a few overly picturesque pictures of trees.

“How did this happen?!”  Hades shout-whispered.

“I would venture to guess she was driving too fast.”

“I could have gathered that myself, thank you very much!” Hades was clearly trying not to shout. “What was she doing?! Where was she going?!”

Zeus rolled folded his arms. “Does it matter?”

“Sure it matters! Well at least it’d be good to know!”

“…I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?! What do you mean you don’t know?! She’s your wife—!”

“I said I don’t know!” he kicked the vending machine.

The air shattered and reformed itself.

Zeus sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, his voice softening. “I…I don’t know.”

Two sides of him warred. One wanted to shout at Hades. He expected him to know where she was at all times? Oh yeah, that would go over well with her. What kind of helicopter husband would he be then?

And yet, it felt wrong for him not to know. Like some sort of failure. She was his wife. Shouldn’t he? Shouldn’t he have asked? Shouldn’t he care?

Hades’ gaze softened.

“I upset her.” Zeus murmured. “We got into a fight.”

Hades leaned against the wall. He was probably resisting the urge to say he could have gathered that too.

Zeus leaned his head forward onto the glass of the vending machine, his hair falling to the side, his reflection vaguely eyeing him.

“We got into a fight and she…I hadn’t even realized she went for a drive.” He paused, observing the chocolate and chips sitting in neat rows in the machine. “Do you think she liked Twyx?”

“Huh?”

“Do you think she liked Twyx?”

Hades pondered it a moment. “Probably. She tends to like things with caramel in them.”

Zeus smiled wryly. “See? I didn’t even know that.”

“I’m sure you’ll be able to ask her all your burning questions about her favorite candy flavors very soon.”

“That’s not the point.” Zeus whispered.

Zeus was feeling a little off-kilter.

He nearly fell into a three-thousand drachma vase.

Okay, make that a lot.

The sound of heels on the staircase. The white one they’d painted for that one event…what had they been celebrating again?

His hazy gaze made her glitter even more than usual.

“Have I ever told you that you’re like the sea on a summer’s day?” Zeus’ voice came out blurry. He put his hand in his hair, trying to look sexy, you know, like the kind of guy you’d wanna forgive.

This was met by her hair slapping him in the face as she walked by him. She paused a few steps below him, turning.

“Is that alcohol I smell on your breath?”

“I may have had one—“ He hiccuped, “or five, appletinis.”

“And this is what? An intelligent conversation you’re trying to have?” She folded her arms over her chest.

“Actually,” he held up a finger. The action made him feel off-balance so he leaned against the railing, trying to land in a sexy pose. “There is something I wanted to say.”

“You’re barely coherent when you’re sober, at least spare me until then.”

He rolled his eyes—(and made himself feel even dizzier).

She turned to go back up the stairs.

“Wait!” He shouted.

She stopped, looked over her shoulder, eyes narrow as a cat’s. “What?”

“I-hic!” He covered his mouth as if embarrassed. Clearly emotion was dangerous. “I wasn’t trying to get wasted! I just-hic!-needed more than three or four to say this.”

“Oh yeah? Spit it out Grape Sorbet.” She folded her arms over her chest.

“I’m…” he held on to the railing for support. “I’m sorry.”

She raised an eyebrow. “I’m listening.”

“You…You were right.” He took a step closer.

“About what?” Her breath bated.

“I just…I didn’t want to admit it. I couldn’t…” He looked away. “I couldn’t tell you sober.”

“About what?” The words had a rough edge to them, her chest heaving with breath.

Ah. She knew. She knew what he was going to say, even before he said it.

“I…I did cheat on you.”

“Wh-What?” Her eyes tinted red…but there was so much hurt in the word.

Fear and shame rose in tandem like ocean waves, threatening to bowl him over, and he realized that the truth wasn’t going to help at all. But all he could do was let it pour out of him.

“You-hic-You asked if I was with-hic—”

“Stop.” She covered her mouth as if to keep the worst words from spilling out, tears welling in her eyes.

“But I—”

“I said stop!” Her voice rang through the room like something shattering.

Maybe something was.

Her heels against the stairs, fast and sharp, and away.

“Wait!”

Turn around please, let me apologize, let me explain, I won’t do it again.

He threw up in the vase.

“Daddy? What was that all about?” The small voice made his blood run cold. “What did you cheat at? Were you playing a game?”

Zeus turned, horrified, to see Ares, hiding behind a crack in the door.

“I shouldn’t have yelled at her.” He breathed. “It was stupid, really.”

Hades put a dollar in the vending machine and punched in a number.

“People say all kinds of things when they’re angry. Doesn’t mean you’re bad, just means you’re people. Which…” Hades looked him up and down, adding under his breath, “I wonder about sometimes.”

“...You must think I’m a terrible husband.”

Hades grabbed two chocolate bars and handed one to his brother.

“I think you need something sweet, maybe a little hydration, and some rest.”

Zeus unwrapped the bar and took a bite, not really tasting anything.

After a moment Hades sighed.

“It’s not so simple as that.” Hades said between bites, “I don’t necessarily think there’s such a thing as a ‘terrible husband’ or ‘the best husband.’ I…I don’t even think there’s such a thing as good and bad people. There’s just…people. There’s just husbands. But there are rules that come with being a person, and/or being a husband and…” he paused, trying to choose his words carefully, “you don’t always follow those rules.”

Zeus fell back against the wall, looking at the floor, denials dying in his throat.

It was raining.

No, actually it was pouring. And thundering. The lightning was like cracks in a collapsing sky, and Zeus’s gut was twisting like the snakes on the head of a gorgon.

“What? You-you think you can just undo this?!” Hera’s words were biting. “It’s done!” Her laugh was wry and sardonic, like an ache in her throat, red tainting the blue of her eyes. “You can’t just fix something like that! Once someone cheats at the game no one else just keeps playing!”

“It was a mistake! One stupid night!”

“One stupid night, huh?! Then how do you explain this?!” She held up his phone. The pictures. The…Oh Gaia.

The snakes in his gut bit down, and he bit his lip looking away. He hadn’t known she knew about that.

“You’ve got it all wrong! That was just—!”

“I thought you were different!” She bit off his excuse, the anger cracked, and the pain was bleeding through, and he wasn’t the only one making it rain: A tear fell down her face, then another, her mascara running black along her cheeks. “You made me smile, you made me laugh! You saved your brothers from your father. And I thought we could make a kingdom—a world—together!” She shook her head, grimacing, trying and failing to keep more tears from falling. “I thought we could be something!”

“We are! We have! I just made a mistake! I—!”

“No, Zeus.” There was a finality to her tone.

Tears streamed down her face now. He hated it when she cried. She didn’t do it often, and whenever she did he was ready to smite whoever hurt her but…he’d hurt her worst of all.

“I thought you were different. But you’re—“ the words were like an antique vase, riddled with cracks. “You’re just another bad guy.” She punched him in the arm, and the vase broke, the defiance into pain. She punched him in the arm…but it was weak and far too soft, and that’s how he knew she was really hurt; she could bring the sky down on him if she wanted.

She looked down at her hand, twisting her wedding ring with a finger.

“I’m staying with a friend tonight.”

Her wedding ring tinkled on the floor.

As she turned and walked away the word rang out like he was hoping his voice alone could rewrite his sins and bring her back:

“Wait!”

She didn’t stop, didn’t turn, didn’t make any indication she’d even heard him.

“Please…Please just wait.” These were soft.

He fell to his knees on the marble, scooping up her wedding ring and enclosing it in his fingers, holding it to his forehead, and trying not to bring the sky down upon himself.

He’d seen her angry. He’d seen her sad. But this? Seeing her break for him…was so much worse.

It reminded him too much of another time. Of a scar on her stomach. How she broke herself just to be his.

—(And he wondered, for a fleeting moment, if it would have been better if he had been the one to break.)—

“There you are!” Said a voice. “You can come see her now,”—a cleared throat— “your Majesty.”

Notes: Aright, so this chapter had a few things I was unsure about I thought I’d ask about here!

1. Does anyone have any other clever play-on-words for candy brands? I feel like Zeus would know that she likes caramel in general, so it’d make more sense if Hades said “she likes [X similar candy] so she’d probably like Twyx.” But Twyx is all my brain came up with and I don’t even know that it’s all that good XD

2. I’m aware that the gods don’t call each other “people” they call each other “beings.” However, Hades’ lines don’t have as much impact with “beings.” Did the fact that I used “people” stick out too much? Should I change it to “beings”?

3. I know Ancient Greek wedding ceremonies are different from ours, and they might not even have wedding rings. But that image was so impactful for me I decided to use it. Should I remove it? Or did you find it impactful?

While I agree that fannon solangelo is awful and down right terrible sometimes. Like the fics are bad and show a very toxic relationship and many of the headcanons are problematic, I don't see the Canon ship the way they write it.

Most of these 'anti solangers' use the justification that will was abolish towards nico in boa when he touched him with out consent ( and while I agree you should totally ask first) how exactly was will supposed to know that nico didn't like to be touched. We may have known as he had said it priveously in the book but how was will supposed to know, he may be a healer but he is not I mind reader and we don't know if this is the first time they meet or if they met before ( I personally don't think they met before this interaction, and if they did it was probably in passing) so how would he know?

Eventually in the tower of nero we see nico receiving therapy with Mr D and not from will, so we don't really see this whole doctor/patient relationship that many anti solangelo shippers claim (it is only seen in fannon headcannons- which I don't agree with) the only time we actually see Will being a 'healer' towards Nico is in boa and tower of nero but only because he was physically injured. (We don't know how may children of Apollo there are still alive other than Kayla and Austin so Will is probably the only actual healer left at camp so they don't have much of a choice about who is going to heal the campers including Nico). We only see this whole will is nicos savior in fics people write - and I find this really problematic- the only time I can think of when will was being 'docterly' towards nico was in tower on nero when will gave him the apple and told him to eat it, but he didn't force him to eat it and he did it because you know wouldn't you want the person your dating to eat something.

I've seen many of the anti shippers, ship nico which Jason,Percy, and Leo- all of whom have been more toxic towards Nico than what they say will has.

Jason was the first person to know that nico was gay and they where friends and the first one to accept him, but he has also just grabbed Nico and flew both of them (before the cupid scene) and while he did after he was told by nico he didn't like it and he backed of, he still did it because he didn't know( how would he they never spoke or were together before then)- just like will would not have know as explained above. Plus Jason had a girlfriend and it's totally fine to ship whoever you want together and headcannon anyone's sexuality that's totally up to you don't bash one guy for doing the same thing the guy you like did.

I really dont understand those who ship Leo with nico, the guy literally was creeped out by nico, they never had a conversation together, and he he was totally for( I think it was his idea, if it wasn't sorry I don't remember) leaving nico behind in the jar and not saving him ( which Jason and Percy where for as well), they literally had to have Hazel talk some sense into them to go and save him. They were barely acquaintances at best but you all ship them.

Percy- now we all know nico had a crush on Percy and most of you argue that 'it was too soon for him to get over him and move on'. Nico has been about kinda over him since after the whole cupid thing he said it himself and he said it again in boa at the end . So it was kinda already in the motion and wasn't a "I met this new guy and forgot the old one" he was already almost over him plus I don't personally think it was a crush and it was more of a hero worship/crush thing and that's how he got over it so fast he wasn't actually in love with Percy he saw him more as a hero and his favorite game character literally came to life so he would obviously idolize Percy. That being said Percy has been kinda toxic towards nico in previous books since the labyrinth ,like he found nico creepy and scarry and in the last Olympian literally chocked and tried to strangle nico and was untruthful towards him because he thought nico sold him out to hades and tricked him. Plus he never actually tried to be nicos friend after the titan wars, he just forgot about him.

(There is nothing wrong with shipping whoever you want with whoever, freedom of speech, your entitled to your own opinions im not trying to attack anyone , you do you, sorry if I offended any one with anything I said)

We have not gotten a lot of will content or anything about his character or personality, hopefully we do get some so we can make a more informed analysis opinion on him.

Fannon solangelo is very problematic, I can go into more detail on that some other time, but we don't know much about Wills character or how him and nico started dating or anything about there relationship because we haven't gotten anything about them except a couple descriptions about them from toa, so until we get more information about them we can't really make educated opinions about there relationship and what it's really like.

In the first toa book the hidden oracle, will was all happy and excited to refer nico as his boyfriend, and nico wasn't that excited, yes , but I think that is because they only just started dating. The book takes place in January so the probably only got together mid or late December so that's a lot of time for them to get to know each other and be friends before they started dating. It was all new to nico so he was just starting to get used to people being okay about him being gay and accepting him so sure he was not fully comfortable with being referd to as boyfriend by a guy so soon.

At the moment I can't think of anything else to say it's like nearly 2 am where I am. Maybe I'll write more later when i think of it.

Actually I'm gonna cheat and ask 2 things because HADESTOWN INSPIRED??? YES PLEASE! My sister and I went to see Hadestown when the tour came to our city and 🥰🥰 all the songs have BIG fic energy and im excited to see what you do with them

I am writing a big ol' fic, with each song in the musical getting its own chapter (that's 31 chapters lol). I've gone back and forth a lot on who all the characters are, but I've decided to go with Orpheus!Martin and Eurydice!Jon. I called it a TMA-Hadestown fusion because I'm world building from both stories. For example, here's some details from my outline:

Underworld: Beholding (but still under the ground) and a kind of Fear-domain-based Hell

Jon is hungry for knowledge, for answers about what happened to him

Touched by Annabelle, Goddess of Webs, as a child, never understood why, seeking answers for how he can save himself

Afraid to love/form attachments, afraid someone else'll be hurt

Falls in love with Martin despite himself (All I've Ever Known)

Martin's hope is what's powerful in this fic, and it's his hope and love for Jon that starts the revolution

Nothing Changes and If It's True are a speedrun of s4 for Martin

Wait For Me (Reprise) a speedrun of sorts of s5, where they're walking through Fear domains to escape to the surface

Martin's self-doubt is what causes him to turn around (Doubt Comes In), very MAG 199/200 vibes

Road to Hell (Reprise) setting up a Somewhere Else type deal

The story starts over again, and maybe they'll succeed this time

Hades: Jonah Magnus, God of Knowing, King of the Underworld

Persephone: Barnabas Bennett, God of Immortality, Consort of the Underworld

Lean into "underworld" side of Persephone and her association with immortality

Nestis alignment as well, associated with the element of water, "moistening mortal springs with tears", her sorrow/tears giving water to the mortals on earth and fueling the life cycle

There are other pieces I've not figured out yet, like who the Fates are going to be. I've considered Gertrude, Agnes, Manuela, Jude Perry, Nikola, and even Sasha, and I think I'm just going to have to start writing those parts and see who fits best

I'm also telling it more like a Story™ told by a Narrator™, so the chapters would all start with stuff like: "Dear Readers, Martin was a poor boy, but he has a gift to give. He could make you see how the world could be, in spite of how it is. But Jon was a young boy who'd seen how the world really was. When he falls in love with Martin, he falls in spite of himself."

Here's a snippet from the middle of the fic, which is where I've done the most work so far

Jon has almost never had anyone to depend upon, has almost always been seeking answers on his own, fending for himself in a world that doesn't want him. When he looks at Martin, though, he sees sunlight, he feels warmth, he hears peace, and he knows love.

And so, despite everything he's ever known, Jon reaches out to Martin, hand stretching to hand, letting his new sun infuse him with hope that the world can be better, that life can have meaning beyond fueling his desire to know.

Looking up into Martin's soft face, Jon feels his knees tremble at the kindness etched into the curve of his mouth. "Martin," he whispers as he takes his hand, lacing their fingers together. He takes a deep breath and leans into the touch as Martin slides a hand to cup his cheek. He closes his eyes, and it's like the world around him is singing.

"I've always been alone," Jon finds himself saying, staring up into the gentlest eyes he's ever seen. "I've always had to rely upon myself. I've never felt anyone else truly understood what happened to me, why I need to know why I was marked by the gods and left alive. I've never wanted anything more than answers, than to learn what it all means."

Jon sets his palm against the back of the hand on his cheek and rests the other on Martin's shoulder. "But I think I want to know more than that. With you, I think it might be possible to find a life outside of seeking."

And Martin gives him a smile that could set the world alight. "The moment I saw you, it was like I was coming home," he says, his voice honey-soft and smooth. "I feel like I've always known you were out there, but I just hadn't met you yet."

"Can it always be like this?" Jon asks, not believing in the possibility of his own happiness. Any attempt before has brought him to this moment, alone and afraid.

"No," Martin admits, still smiling, "but we can do our best."

The dark purple silk dress fit like a dream. It had to...it was made just for you. Long and flowy, a slit at your right thigh that left little to the imagination. You kept on the diamond earrings and the Louis Vuitton heels and you tried to not think about all the blood on the money used to buy them. You wouldn’t let the guilt eat away at you because deep down, you liked it. You like the power a little more each day.

1 -> animal crossing! i feel like this just has to be my number one...erm i never had any of the games growing up cause i didnt have the money but when pocket camp came out it changed my life! n now new horizons! i have. 565+ hours in the game so. think i HAVE to say its my fave...the evidence...ehe

2 -> minecraft!! i haven't played in a long time but i played survival for hours n hours when i was growing up it was so fun n sooo soothing...i love it...fun fact i only played multiplayer in 2020...i'd be playing since 2013 by myself eheh...just making survival world after survival world...making little kingdom then starting again :)

3 -> undertale / deltarune!! cheating n putting these two at the same number cause i really enjoyed both of them equally! i haven't even played ch2 of deltarune yet but im excited to! i think the excitement n the characters n the ost n the gameplay is just soo fun n soo comforting n i just love it! :)

4 -> night in the woods! oh baby i've wanted to get into this for years n years n finally got around to watching a playthrough earlier this year n i totally fell in love...the um ost is also some of my most played music!! comfy...

5 -> hades!! i just started like a few weeks ago but i'm having a blast! i really enjoy the gameplay n the characters n the design n just everything is so so fun! i really enjoy the way its formatted too ehe...i dont mind going back to the beginning cause u can just unlock sooo many new things...i love talking to everyone!! n also. it makes the list cause unlimited cerberus pets ehehe...when i first discovered u can pet him. i kid u not i sat there petting him for about 3 minutes.

tbh my fics always have like. any members of the seven as secondary characters bc. while they are mcs in canon. they are side characters in my heart no offense to any of them. so basically like. sorry seven plus reyna i care about nico and will more than i care about you, and therefore my brain says you’re harder for me to write. i WISH they were all easier to write bc then i would want to include them in more stuff!! but idk it all takes practice ig

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

actually just got a new idea like uhhh 3 hours ago maybe and im already 3 pages deep in planning for it!! all of my preliminary ideas for it included a lot of solitary/loneliness feelings for nico and a lot of forced confrontation with the death of his closest family members (and also his dad. this is a mortal au and yes im killing hades), and then after an hour of me being like. “hell yeah nico’s on his knees in his childhood bedroom SOBBING” i was like “what if will was there sometimes and there was fluff. so now i have a multi chap in the planning lmao which is not something i ever intend to start but i think this one could be good!! as long as i put the time into making sure it all comes out like it should,, and plan it all out as best i can before i decide to jump into writing it!! i think its gonna be neat!! (and still very angsty >:) )
