"You put up a Christmas tree?" Y/N questioned when she came into Steve's house. There was a large, fluffy tree in the corner of the living room, all white lights and silver ornaments, a crystal tree topper bringing the whole theme together.

It was ugly.

"My parents put it up when they came home last week. They won't be back until a couple days before Christmas, so they put it up during Thanksgiving." Steve explained, not seeming too excited about the fact that his parents were leaving him alone for most of December.

Y/N remembered when Steve's parents would only leave on weekends. When he graduated, they stopped coming to even check in, only keeping up appearances every once in awhile. It infuriated Y/N, knowing his parents were probably living separately in another state, not caring about their son who had been to literal hell.

"Where are all your other ornaments?" Y/N tried to ask casually, not wanting to seem judgmental. She walked toward the tree to inspect it, finding that there was nothing more to the tree than the bland frosted tips and the white lights.

"What do you mean?" Steve seemed confused, and Y/N frowned slightly. In her house, her parents had put her homemade ornaments and fun souvenirs all over their tree, multi-colored lights and a festive tree skirt making it feel like home.

"Didn't you make ornaments in school?" She questioned, turning to see Steve frowning.

"Well, yeah," Steve licked his lips, staring at the tree. "I mean, I'm sure those are all in my attic?" It was a question, which was enough to tell Y/N that he had no idea where the ornaments were, only that his parents didn't care to put them on the tree.

"Steve," Y/N put a hand on his shoulder running it down his bicep and bringing him close to her. "I'd put them on my tree." She smiled up at him when he looked down at her, blushing slightly.

"This isn't really my tree anyway." Steve pulled his arm away from her grasp and put it around her, looking at the tree for a few more seconds before Steve turned them both around and began walking toward the kitchen.

"Did you make us hot chocolate?" She asked, eyes lighting up when he grabbed a mug off the counter and handed it to her with a smirk. He shrugged and took a sip, watching her bring it to her lips and take a sip. Her eyes widened when she realized what Steve had actually made. "You made us spiked hot chocolate?" She whispered, even though there was no one else in the house. With everything that had happened that year, it almost made her feel like a normal.

"Of course I did." Steve smirked at her, taking another sip. Y/N did too, and although she couldn't tell what he had spiked the hot chocolate with it tasted well.

"I guess I'm staying over then," She smiled, walking to the couch and flopping down without spilling her hot chocolate. She noticed the movies on the counter that Steve had more than likely stolen from the video store; the good kind too, the Christmas movies everyone wanted to check out. He must've pulled a bunch of strings to get these.

"Okay, let's just pretend you don't have your overnight bag in your car." Steve teased, grabbing her mug and putting it next to his on the coffee table before laying on her, kissing her neck and causing her to giggle and wrap her arms around him.

"What's wrong with Steve's tree?" Dustin asked when Y/N unlocked Steve's front door with her own key. All the rest of the kids were with Steve. He had picked them up but had called Y/N from Max's trailer, knowing he wouldn't have time to pick up Dustin and take them all back to Steve's for movie night. They were getting even closer to Christmas now, all the kids only having one week left before their break.

"Um," Y/N, started, licking her lips as she stared at the boring tree. "It's just, uh," She was trying to find a nice way to describe it, even if Steve wasn't there.

"It's boring. And ugly." Dustin blurted out, walking closer to inspect it.

"No, it's just organized." Y/N decided on, but she found that she wanted to grab one of the stupid silver balls and throw it against a wall just to watch it shatter.

"Where are all the other ones?" Dustin asked, grabbing an ornament and plucking it off the tree. "These ones are stupid." Could always count on Dustin to speak the truth that was on his mind.

"Dustin," Y/N scolded, grabbing the ornament and putting it back on the tree. "Steve's parents put this up. So we can't say anything about it's short-comings, alright?" Y/N crossed her arms.

"I'm going to make him a whole new tree." Dustin commented before moving to the kitchen, seemingly done with the whole idea. It gave Y/N a great one, however, and her mind lit up.

"That's a great idea!" She said, hoping the kids wouldn't think they were too old for what she was about to suggest.

"What is?" Dustin asked, head buddies inside a cabinet as he searched for snacks.

"Why don't you get everyone to make Steve a homemade ornament!" She was getting way too excited, she knew by the way Dustin slowly pulled his head away to look at her. "He would be so happy, oh my gosh." Y/N was thinking of the way Steve would react when he received hand made presents from his favorite people.

"Right," She could tell Dustin was trying to sound like a grown-up, but from the upturned corners of his eyes she could tell he knew it was a great idea.

"Steve can't know," Y/N reminded him, and she almost laughed at the look he gave her.

"Why isn't your tree lit up?" Y/N asked, even though she knew exactly why his tree wasn't lit up with those stupid white lights.

"I don't know. I think a bulb is out." He said, glancing to the side before going back to the movie they were watching. Y/N had given herself fifteen minutes before she asked, and now she had to be chill. This needed to seem like a coincidence.

"Oh, gosh." She muttered, settling into his side and counting to thirty in her head. "Ya know, I think I have some lights in my car." She stared at the movie as she felt Steve move around to stare at her.

"Y/N," Steve started reaching forward and pausing the movie. "Why the hell do you have tree lights in your car?" Because I unscrewed the first couple bulbs in your lights to make sure none of them worked.

"I was going take them back for my parents." She lied. She had picked them up on the way over to Steve's house. "But I'm sure they won't mind if you use them. After all, a Christmas tree without lights is just a tree."

"Okay," Steve sounded skeptical, but he still followed Y/N out to her car and carried the box of lights in.

"Oh, shoot," She muttered as she took the lights out of the box. "I guess they left some ornaments in here." She held up the couple of ornaments she had also bought from the store. One was a basketball, and the other was two penguins with cute scarves leaning into each other.

"Did they?" Now Steve was definitely onto her, but she would never tell him the truth.

"Yeah." She sighed, then held them up to his tree. "They look better on your's anyway." She smiled at him, and he just shook his head and leaned down to unplug the old, white lights.

"They're colored." Steve said, looking at the bulbs.

"Believe it or not, tree lights can be other colors." She smirked. Steve grabbed the basketball ornament, holding it up.

"I guess ornaments can be too." He smirked, looking at her in a way that made her blush, because he had to of known she had brought the obvious ornaments for him.

"This'll be fun!" Y/N said, smiling ear to ear as she turned the radio in the kitchen to the Christmas station. Steve returned the smile, grabbing a chair to be able to reach the top of the large tree.

"Here, I'll hand you the ornaments and you can put them on the couch." Steve told her, taking off a couple of the boring white and silver ones. Y/N contemplated 'accidentally' dropping them on the ground, but decided against it, incase Steve would want to redecorate the tree before his parents got home.

Part of her hoped his parents came home to see the tree all decorated by his real family and have an aneurysm.

"Careful with this." He said, taking the crystal tree topper off, gently handing it to Y/N. Her heart swelled at her thought process. Maybe Steve did have something important on his tree.

"Is it a family heirloom?" She asked, secretly hoping that at least something on the tree had sentimental value.

"What? No," Steve chuckled, and Y/N tried not to deflate as she set the topper on the coffee table, just incase. "It's just expensive, probably. I'd imagine that's real crystal." He grabbed the colored lights and plugged them in, and Y/N tried to contain her glee as they lit up. When he was done putting them around the tree, it already looked so much different.

"Here." Y/N bypassed the topper and made Steve put the penguin ornament up first. He stared at the ornament for a moment, taking it in, and then put it front and center.

Where it should be.

By the time all the other ornaments were up, the tree still looked somewhat boring but at least it was a start. Y/N couldn't wait for the day when the branches would be weighed down the homemade ornaments. She squeezed Steve's hand at the thought, smiling up at him when he squeezed back.

She was going to make this their tree.

"Are you sure you can't make it to Will's?" Dustin begged. Everyone was at Steve's to give them their presents two days before Christmas, since he wouldn't be able to go to the Byers for Christmas. They had been going back and forth between Steve opening someone's gift and then him giving them a gift. So far Steve had got Lucas a Pacers jersey, and Lucas got Steve an ornament made out of a Hawkins High jersey that Lucas definitely didn't 'lose' last year. Erica had made Steve an ornament with yarn using his favorite colors and popsicle sticks, while she had received a First Edition American Girl Doll. She couldn't even act like it was childish because she was so excited. El made Steve an ornament out of clay that had so much glitter it got everywhere when Steve picked it up, but he still smiled and thanked her as he handed her a box containing a cute beanie in her favorite color. Mike had given Steve an ornament of a ceramic radio, and he tried to act nonchalant when Steve gifted him a signed copy of his favorite book.

"If my parents don't show up, I promise I'll be there." Steve said it lightly, but Y/N heard the sadness in his voice. She hoped his parents showed up, but she also knew the bad place Steve's head would be in after his parents' visit.

"Is it bad to hope your parents don't show up?" Max asked, handing Steve her present. Steve was starting to see the pattern with all the kids' gifts, but he enjoyed all of them.

"Just a little bit." Nancy said with a small smile. Since the younger kids couldn't stay as long, the older ones were going to do a small gift exchange afterward and indulge in some alcoholic beverages and spend the night, leaving early in the morning.

"I still hope they don't show up." Max confessed as Steve took the tissue paper out of the bag and smiled at yet another ornament. This one was a cute little car that somewhat looked like Steve's, which made him laugh softly as he thought of how Max had drove his car when he had been knocked out by her brother.

"Thank you," Steve smiled, handing the ornament to Y/N, who was carefully putting them in a box for later as he handed Max her present from him.

"No," Max said as she looked at the box, already knowing what it was. "Steve," She whispered, ripping the wrapping paper and opening the box to reveal the skateboard she knew was in there. She looked up at the ceiling, trying not to cry as she caught a glimpse of the back of it, which was decorated with a bunch of arcade game characters.

"Do you like it?" Steve asked, eyes wide with hope.

"Yes, you idiot." Max said, sniffling and blinking before moving back in the group.

"Alright, last ones, come on," Y/N said, looking out the window to see Karen waiting to pick up the kids. Will smiled as he moved forward, handing Steve a small box. He opened it to see a homemade clay ornament of his bat, complete with the nails. He chuckled as he held it up, and everyone laughed with him.

"This is amazing." Steve said with a huge smile. "Thank you, Will." Y/N watched all the kids look annoyed that Will had made the best ornament, and she smiled as she leaned down to hand Steve the gift from Will.

Everyone watched as Will unwrapped his gift, which Y/N had actually found and agreed to let Steve give to Will. It was a couple of limited edition Star Wars drinking glasses, and Will smiled and thanked Steve after getting a good look.

"Alright, dumbass," Steve said, smiling down at Dustin, who was smiling.

"Let me open mine first." The younger boy said, grabbing putting his poorly wrapped box behind his back. Steve rolled his eyes and leaned down to grab Dustin's gift.

Steve had freaked out about Dustin's gift. He hadn't known what to get the boy who he saw as a brother. Y/N had to help him pick between numerous gifts, trying not to laugh as he put way too much thought into it.

Dustin ripped into his gift, a Super Mario Bros Nintendo Game & Watch. Dustin was silent as he stared at the game. Steve stared as he waited for Dustin to say something. His head was down, so they couldn't see his reaction.

"Dustin?" Y/N asked softly, leaning forward. Before she could figure out what Dustin was feeling, the boy launched himself at Steve, who let out a grunt as he was knocked back.

"Thank you," Dustin cried, and Y/N watched as Steve let out a breath of relief and wrapped his arms around him.

"Of course," Steve responded, eyes closing as he enjoyed the hug. Y/N looked at Nancy, the two almost crying at the interaction. After everyone had composed themselves, Dustin handed a small box to Steve.

"I wonder what it is?" Steve joked, smirking as he opened up an object wrapped in tissue paper. He smirked as he opened it, but the smirk was instantly dropped when he saw what the ornament was.

This one was one of the homemade dough ones in the shape of a circle, Dustin's handwriting in the middle reading 'Best Brother Ever.'

Steve looked over at Dustin and immediately was crying.

After that everyone erupted in chaos, all the kids wanting to put their ornaments on the tree as Karen honked the horn outside.

"Mine needs to be at the top!" Max yelled, pushing Dustin away.

"I'm sorry, did your's make him cry?" Dustin screamed back, pushing.

"How about neither of your's get to be at the top?" Mike said, and the other two both rolled their eyes.

"You didn't even make a homemade one!" El said, helping Will and Erica take off the boring ornaments.

"Let's all just calm down." Nancy said, watching the tree shake.

"I'm gonna go get a bag for all the paper." Steve said, kissing Y/N's temple and walking out of the room.

"Smart man." Jonathan said, rolling his eyes as he watched the kids continue fighting. Y/N shook her head as she scoffed.

"Should we do something? That tree looks a little too close to falling." Robin interjected. Y/N nodded, but just as she went to stop the kids the star on top of the tree came tumbling down. Everyone was silent as it shattered, the sound ringing out.

"Everyone stay still!" Steve ordered, however it wasn't in a harsh voice; it was the voice he used when the Upside Down monsters were getting too close. All the kids looked over to him with wide eyes, but he was just staring at the ground.

"Steve," Y/N whispered, not sure how he would react to this. The topper didn't have an emotional value, but Y/N knew that Steve's parents wouldn't be too thrilled about it.

"El, Will, Lucas, Erica, you all walk that way." Steve pointed away from the shattered remains, and the kids silently obeyed, leaving Max, Dustin, and Mike standing in the mess.

"I'm so sorry." Max whispered, and Y/N could tell her eyes were wet with tears.

"We can fix it, look, it's not even that-"

"Dustin stop!" Steve cut off the younger boy, who was now crouched as he tried to put the bigger pieces together in the silver frame. Dustin looked over, and Y/N could tell he was about to freak out. She knew Steve was trying to make sure none of the kids would get hurt. That was his number one priority.

"I didn't mean to, I promise, I just," Dustin drifted off, voice high and tight as he tried not to cry.

"Are you guys okay?" Steve asked, walking over and grabbing the large pieces and putting them in the bag he had grabbed. "You weren't cut, were you?" His words shocked the kids, who were just staring at him, petrified.

"You aren't mad?" Mike asked, breaking the ice. "You aren't gonna yell at us?"

"Are you hurt?" Steve repeated, completely ignoring Mike's questions.

"No," Max shook her head, bringing her hands up to wipe her tears.

"Okay," Steve held up the silver frame that the crystal used to be in, and as he stared at it Y/N heard the thoughts in his head.

His parents were going to kill him.

"Put your ornaments on the tree and let's grab your stuff." Y/N said to the kids, who finished their original task and grabbed their jackets, all watching Steve, who was now sitting on the floor with the remains in his hand.

"We can replace it!" Dustin said, and Y/N just gave him a tight lipped smile.

"Let's talk about this later." She told him, herding the rest of the kids out of the house and promising to update them and apologize to Steve for them.

"Are you alright?" Robin was at Steve's side, who was still blank faced.

"My parents are actually gonna kill me." Steve muttered, looking up to Y/N with wide eyes. She was with him in no time, wiping away the remaining pieces of crystal to sit with him. She wrapped her arms around him, trying to calm him somehow.

"It'll be alright." She told him, kissing his shoulder. Steve just shook his head, shrugging Y/N and Robin off as he stood, throwing the silver frame in the bag.

"Oh God," Steve said, staring at the tree, which was fully decorated in the kid's ornaments and the multicolored lights and a couple of the branches were bent, but the tree finally looked like his, not his mom's or his dad's.

Oh yeah, they were gonna kill him.

"You're sure his parents came?" Max asked, clearly feeling guilty about breaking the tree topper the day prior. Everyone was at the Byers on Christmas Eve night, the kids having a plan to stay awake until Christmas.

"He got a call from them this morning." Y/N confirmed with a sad smile. She took a bite of one of the Christmas cookies she had helped Joyce with that afternoon, after she left Steve's house. She wasn't sure what he was going to do about the tree topper, but she knew he was going out to get white lights for the tree, which made her sad.

"Have you heard from him since?" Lucas asked, and by now all the kids were listening intently.

"No." She shook her head with a frown. She hadn't tried calling him, because she didn't want his parents to pick up. They knew that her and Steve was dating her, but like most things with their son, they chose to ignore it.

"Is he okay?" Dustin asked, catching the attention of Hopper, who was very well versed in the rumors about the Harrington family.

"Yes," Y/N said with an awkward chuckle. Hopper caught her eye, and she pulled her lips in.

"Have you talked to him?" Hop asked, sitting forward in his chair.

"No, but I'm sure he's fine." Y/N lied.

"Maybe I should go check." Hopper said, standing.

"Can I come?" Y/N stood, heart racing as she realized her and Hopper were on the same page.

"What's going on?" Joyce asked, looking at Nancy for clarification, but it seemed everyone else was just as confused.

"I'm going to pick Steve up." Hopper announced, no room for arguing.

"But his parents," Robin started, and Y/N just gave her look with her eyebrows raised, because there was no need to freak the kids out.

"What's going on?" Erica asked, eyes wide with fear and confusion.

"It's fine, we're just gonna go get Steve so he can be with us." Y/N smiled. Before anyone could say anything, there was a knock at the door.

"Are you expecting anyone else?" Hopper asked Joyce, who was rushing to the door.

"No," She stepped back to let Hopper open the door, covering the opening with his body. He was silent, and Joyce and Y/N tried to look around his body.

"Who is it?" Joyce asked, finally making the cop move out of the way.

"Steve?" Y/N asked, seeing the boy standing with a large box. He had a bright red mark across his cheekbone, one that was swelling and slowly turning less bright and more purple.

"Come in, honey." Joyce put a hand on his back and pulled him inside.

"What happened?" Y/N whispered when Steve was inside, tracing a light thumb over it. He just shook his head as he moved to kiss her hand.

"Just say the word, kid." Hopper said, clapping his shoulder as a silent understanding passed between them.

"I couldn't bring anything for dinner, but I brought some stuff for the tree." Steve said as he walked into the living room with the kids. They all gathered around as he opened the box to reveal all the ornaments they had given him. "My dad tried to break them." He said quietly, and Y/N caught Hopper's eye as they realized how Steve had gotten the mark.

Steve took a beating to keep the ornaments the kids gave him.

"Well," Steve smiled at all the kids, who looked like a mix between sad and confused. "What're you doing just standing here? Put them on the tree." He nodded at the Byers' tree, and the kids all reached in to grab their ornaments, much more calm about putting them up this time.

"You brought the penguins." Y/N said, looking in the box and seeing the ornaments she had gotten him. She went to grab them when she realized that there was an extra one in there, face down. She grabbed it and flipped it around, seeing a picture of them on the ceramic circle. She felt the tears well as she stared at it, looking up at him.

"I actually had Jonathan do it before I knew what you set the kids up to." He told her, and she just smirked.

"I have no idea what you mean." But they both knew she was lying. They shared a smile and grabbed the remaining ornaments, putting them on the crowded tree. When it was done, everyone stood back to take it in. Steve put his arm around Y/N and decided this was the tree he wanted from now on - no more plain trees.

"We made you something." Dustin said, and Steve turned to see the kids all crowded around, Dustin with his arms around his back.

"It's not crystal," Max said as an apology. Steve's eyes widened as he realized what was going on.

"You guys," He started, but then Dustin was thrusting his arms out and Steve was met with a star made from cardboard. It looked pretty decent, and Steve felt his eyes water as he turned it to see the back, which all the kids had signed for him.

"You did this for me?" Steve asked softly, letting a couple tears fall.

"Will made the cardboard, but we decorated." El explained, and Steve smiled as he realized why there was glitter on one corner.

"Thank you," He whispered, letting them all crowd him and hug him.

"Put it on the tree," Joyce nodded to the tree, which didn't have a topper yet. Steve looked surprised, but still stood on the side of the couch and reached over, putting the star at the top where it belonged. He jumped down and grabbed Y/N close, and she wrapped her arms around him. She blushed as he kissed her forehead.

Can I ask why you always give Peter a mommy kink and use weird words like “yer” for him? I’ve just watched the x-men movies and shows a million times and I always see your blog on my for you but he’s never accurate to what I’ve seen😭😭. these are totally valid criticisms to make, anon! although, i don't recall ever giving him a mommy kink in my fics! like, i totally dig it. but quicksilver mommy kink was pretty frequent on tumblr before i ever started writing for him! and hey, i agree with you! i don't think magda comes off as a "bad" mom at all. for a character with no development in the films, she's so much more complex to me. she's got three children. and one's not only a mutant, but also a troublemaker !! that'll take a toll on a lady! but i don't think she loves him any less or treats him badly for it, y'know? she's probably just exhausted!

anyway, im rambling again. as far as the "yer" thing goes, i just like typin' how evan's midwestern accent sounds to me. personally, i think it's super endearing. it's more a phonetic thing, less a slang thing. when he talks, i just hear it like that. but maybe that's just me. and if you don't vibe with it? that's cool! i get it! maybe you'll connect with other writers' work instead!

So I watched Elemental....

And...

It was surprisingly good, and WAY more mature then I actually expected it to be.

Which, was par for the course. I knew a long time ago not to trust Pixar's marketing team when it comes to their movies. (cus this idiot gave Brave and Good Dinosaur and Lightyear a chance in theatres... what's one more pixar movie under my belt I'm disappointed by...)

But I was not disappointed in this one. And I'm grateful for that.

I'm not sure if it's worth it to see it in theatres. The whole thing is available to watch in 3D now, and the constant motion of the water and the fire does look impressive but I'm not sure if I would spend the extra money to see it with 3D glasses. But the visual effects and lighting was stunning!

Ember being reflected in Wade's face while he's looking at her is a nice touch and I loved those composition shots.

Although, I would NOT call it above Spiderverse this summer. lol. Not by a long shot. Like if you only have money to see one animated film this summer, make it Spiderverse, for sure.

The little short about Carl from Pixar's UP getting ready to go on a date is actually pretty cute. And I'm glad this was Ed Asner's last recorded role as Carl and I thought it was a cute send-off for the character. (I kinda wish the credits of the short acknowledged it) Also, I love that the short actually talks about finding love after your soulmate dies. It's rare it's not seen in Children's animation more, because it DOES happen. (my mom being a testament to that)

Anyway, about Elemental.

The movie is not really a "by the numbers romance" as the trailers would have you believe... just kinda showing that Disney did not fucking know how to market this thing.

Sure, it is a romance story between a fire girl and a water guy, and they do interact, solve a small crisis and get closer as time goes on and a good amount of time is done building their relationship and it's actually solid and cute. and there is a 'elements don't mix' but it's more of a saying between their people and not an actual rule or "law" as the trailers would have you think. It's a lot smaller, more intimate stakes then that. And I think for a romance story, intimate stakes work better.

But honestly, did you know that this movie is 100% a story about First World Immigrants that settled down in Element City which isn't built for them in mind so that their daughter could have a better life? And how Family Obligations and a sense of responsibility and love for your family can sometimes make you feel trapped and unable to explore different faucets of your life that you don't even know about until other people point them out to you but your terrified of pursuing something new and different with your life cause you feel like you would be too far away from your family and neglect your responsibilities and feel like a bad daughter because something that you worked for your whole life became the end goal and you didn't know what would come after because you didn't know these things about yourself until now and now you feel the priorities and goals and responsibilities you worked so hard for are now shifting into different responsibilities and priorities and you don't know what to do and feel like you let your family down

LOL sorry that was a bit of a run-on sentence, but Ember is really relatable to me as a protagonist. So if any of that rambling run-on sounded interesting or relatable to you, I recommend you go see it when you get a chance, and I think I sold it far better then Pixar's marketing team, or Disney, or whoever did it.

The movie isn't laugh out loud funny, but there are a few sensible chuckles and puns in there. No real belly-laughs, but there were a lot of "AWWS" from the audience, which indicates everyone was loving the cute romance story. And there was a few scenes that made my sister cry (not me tho cus im dead inside. LOL)

Anyways, some spoilers under the cut and a few scenes I just thought would make the movie stronger

There is this stupid kid dirt child called Clod. He only appears a few times in the movie. Like... a total of two? Maybe three times? about a three minute scene each or so? to be annoying and flirt with Ember who is like... 10 times his age.

And it's supposed to be cute... and Ember does reject him gently... kiiiinda... like.... if rolling your eyes and groaning when he shows up counts as telling him "no" .....(it doesn't and he's like ten and some kids are bad at emotional ques cus kids are in their own head a lot. depends on the kid, but Clod is DEFINATELY one of those kids who only sees the world through HIS lens.)

but honestly...

I kinda wish Ember was more firm with this kid. And told him to stop. Just cus it's a kids movie and it is 2023. Can we stop the cliche of "far younger kid flirts with female lead" it was never funny in the 80s... and it sure isn't funny now... And I just kinda wanted a line or two from Ember, showing kids that this behavior is not okay. Rather then her just kinda rolling her eyes, and shaking him off.

I'm not expecting a full grown lecture moment to stop the movie in it's tracks, cause you can honestly write dialogue that is funny that works.

Like Ember Never tells this little casanova the words "STOP." she just kinda... burns his flowers he gives her and rolls her eyes like 'elements don't mix bud' I know she might be trying to let him down gently, but the kid isn't getting the message, cus he keeps waiting outside the shop every day to hit on her.

Just tell the little dirtclod to stop or ask him if he has school or if she has to tell his mom what he's doing. Like honestly, a small aside line like "I really need to talk to him about personal boundaries"

idk.. give me something... just tell him to stop. lol

Another scene, there's this thing, that if water touches fire, or like... a lot of water, it extinguishes part of their body, and they need to eat wood to repair it.

We got to see Ember and her mother do this to themselves on separate occasions

But Wade never got to see it. :(

Wade and Ember know the danger of dating eachother, and they are scared of touching, and a lot of times, Ember is put into terrifying situations where there is a LOT of Water.

I kinda wanted a scene to happen where.... maybe her leg gets extinguished, and Wade cries heavily, and freaks the fuck out.. and thinks that he SERIOUSLY hurt her. And Ember tells him to calm down, and she has a firestarter kit, and she just needs to eat some firewood, and she'll be okay. Or it could have happened at Wade's family's house...

Like I feel it would be a little cute bonding moment, and it will give Wade a moment of clarity at realizing the gravity of their relationship a little more early

Wade is definitely a "heart on your sleeve" "follow your heart" "be honest with your emotions" character.

Which is great, and I do love how cute their contrast is. But there are a few moments, where Wade just doesn't understand the severity of their relationship, or sometimes just doesn't understand the importance of Ember's people's culture sometimes.

And to be fair... Ember doesn't explain this to him, at least not fully, or properly. So Wade, not having all the facts... Her abandoning everything in her life to pursue an internship far away from her family makes sense to him.

I feel just... having a scene where he SEES Ember get hurt... instead of it being a possible threat of "oh they might get hurt" or just constantly telling the audience "OOOH THEY COULD GET HURT" would actually bridge some gaps in miscommunication, and have him understand the gravity of their relationship sooner.

I mean, it's not like he EVER does... he definitely does and it's not like Wade is stupid. He knows their relationship has problems. And I actually command the guy for getting mad that Ember is NOT telling him or helping him understand some things that she values. Cause he wants to help and get to know her, but if she's constantly on guard he can't do that.

Idk.. I do think that Wade finding firesticks for Ember and helping her after she got hurt would have been a cute bonding experience Maybe I'm just a Wumpy and I want to see it. eghoahef Ember got hurt plenty times by water, so it's not like they're scared to show a woman be venerable... It's just that..... Wade never gets to see that. And it was a shame.

I wanted to see him see it and his reaction to it.

Idk... those were just the things I kinda wanted to see.

Other then that, I enjoyed my time... and Wade is a class Himbo... and Ember is just... super relatable to me, and I understand her so much. I love her.

I feel the conclusion wraps up a little too cleanly????

Like... it's a super happy ending, and everyone has their cake and eats it too.

Ember's Dad gets to retire, and Ember gets to get her intership, and the Dad just lets some fireguys who are at his shop all the time who feel like family to run the shop in his retirement instead of his daughter?

Idk... it feels like it wrapped up way too cleanly and it never works that way in real life... Especially complex issues between family responsibilities and pursuing new passions in life that might take you far away from your family

I don't mind the super happy ending and having your cake and eating it too... idk I just feel their could be a better written solution that didn't involve her Dad handing over the keys to his shop to essentially some background characters we barely know....

seems off... but yeah, idk how else I would make everyone happy in the ending lol

i read the manga during my last year of uni and when i tell you i SOBBED at the end... yes ofc for obvious reasons, but mostly bc my little Levi loses EVERYTHING. He is the SOLE survivor of the veteran scouts. He's missing multiple fingers, an eye, and the ability to walk. He was the strongest (yowaimo) but wasn't even granted the mercy to die at the end of his narrative! Broke my fucking heart.

Still quite busy, but the Yuri draft is coming slowly but surely. Eventually, I'll have free time to really put some elbow grease into this thing (at least, that's what I keep telling myself).

I don't know much about PH mythology, but I'm interested to see what you end up making out of it! Personally, I was more interested in Greek mythology when I was younger, although I've been years removed from that phase.

Where do you get your inspiration for plots from? Do you ever take events/characters in your personal life and spin them into your stories? Or do you get inspiration from other kinds of media, like movies, literature, music, etc? Maybe you look into spicier forms of media for inpsiration? Or perhaps ideas just come to you out of the blue?

After learning that a story I like stemmed from the author looking at a time in their life and going "What if I did this differently?", it's inspired to try and find things that happened to me that could make an interesting story. I've had... varying success, but it's been an interesting trip down memory lane at the very least.

jimin- i don’t remember much from the chapter in September I don’t think we saw much of him but in this recent chapter OMG he was such a sweet pea!!! Y/n really went all out getting his HORSE shipped here. And jimin saying happy b day to join was so sweet cause every one’s warming up to joon after the fight a bit and I think everyone is warming up in general. Anyways y/nie goes above and beyond for her boys and ahhhh so sweet. He was so happy too you could tell he wanted to cry gosh. I love when jimin can’t handle his alcohol well I can just imagine his red cheeks eeek I hope we get to travel and see his family too. He’s defiantly been working hard on the barn, and when she mention he was shirtless at some point 🥵 I cant- im sorry I’m on my period that my horrible excuse anyways -

Jimin is such a sweet, polite guy, so him wishing Joonie a happy birthday proves he really just want to keep the peace. Tipsy Jimin is just the cutest stinking thing ever, I can picture his face so clearly in my mind! Knowing Y/N, she'll definitely make good on her mental promise to bring Jimin to see his family (I'm sure she wants to meet them too!) Also YES you're right, he was totally shirtless when he was patching up the roof of the stable... I would have passed out if I saw that, Y/N is a strong woman!

Tae - UGH Another one that is totally whipped for Y/N, taking pictures of her, including a couple at his first expo... even though only four were displayed at that expo, you can imagine he's probably taken dozens more of her, which makes me blush and kick my feet. He's definitely one of the more cuddly ones, too, so when he hugged her at the expo that moment was so sweet and intimate... physical touch must be one of his love languages. I love my men a little possessive, and I DO remember the whole perilla leaf debate (wild) and Tae being like that both irl AND in Trouvaille is just so... you know? He was definitely staking claim over Y/N in that brewery, he did not like that random man staring at his girl like that. OOF! 🥵 I'm glad you brought up Tae and Yoongi beginning to come around to one another. They have that connection of both being into music, and I think they have similar possessive feelings over Y/N. Maybe Yoongi will be the one who gets close to Tae first, we'll see!!

Jeongguk - fhdjasf our little edgelord! Ah his birthday was so self indulgent, fluffy, and a chance to see his softer side under all that iciness he usually displays. I think the longer time wears on, he'll let go of more of that frostiness and become more comfortable showing Y/N his tender side. fjdksa I forgot about the scene where he offered her a cigarette at Hoseok's meet-- such a twerp!! I love love love scary movies, and I feel like him maybe Yoongi are the only two that would actually wanna watch a horror film with me IRL, or Y/N in Trouvaille. Hoseok is a bit of a scaredy cat, and the rest of them put that off a little bit as well LOL. And for sure, there really isn't anything that can be hidden in that house anymore, there are ears literally everywhere.... bad news for someone who likes to talk shit, like me. But that's an example of Jeongguk being uncharacteristically sweet, agreeing to help Y/N even if he doesn't have to. Joon was so pissed when she didn't call out for him when she was threatened, but Y/N handled everything just fine, IMO, he was being a dramatic wolf.

You know I love a good cliffhanger!!! I can't not have one almost every time. Hopefully, this time, the conflict can be resolved quickly, and it isn't as bad as The Incident between Joon and Tae. We shall see-- or you may have already seen, in this newest update!! I'm dying.... there is indeed too much testosterone in that house, but I suppose that it is just something they're all going to need some adjusting to. BUT!! i procrastinated on this just so the answer would be worth it (cause i watched a mediocre french movie but mostly didn't pay attention and that didn't sound like a good answer); the movies i saw today instead of the indian movie im procrastinating on seeing:

She's Dating the Gangster (2014) - this philippino movie made me realise that netflix's "true love" category should've been called "heartbreak" but they renamed it so well

the intros and summaries truly suck because i thought i was going into a light "fake dating" romcom with a pair of cute silly teens as the leads! what i got instead was so sad and a tad bit melodramatic that at the end i didn't know how to feel.. i did cry though! i was hanging in there and yet it got me; it's a sweet movie, although it could be overwhelming, and i would recommend it! it's kind of my fave out of the three, i wasn't too sure how it was gonna end too; one really strong point is the sweet twist on the makeover trope that the movie doesn't even use to promote itself, it's kinda naturally in there and it made me so happy

Jumping From High Places (2022) - this italian romantic-but-more-about-self-growth movie about a young woman with anxiety was not technically confusing but it had me bored halfway through (again, the sample video thingy netflix shows had an energy that imo was not there throughout the film, i found it misleading); i'm just happy i picked up on smth that is probably supposed to be a surprising reveal hehe; i wouldn't not recommend it, i feel like it could be relatable and a sweet experience for some

Your Place or Mine (2023) - a typical hollywood movie, what can i say, it's been pushed onto me and i was kinda interested, gonna lie if i say the cast wasn't a part of the reason i caved in (i'm curious bout what kutcher and witherspoon are doing now, yeah);

i think it's kinda bland, it had some good sentiments but at the end i found the female lead too unlikeable and the story kind of stretched out and a bit rushed at the same time (maybe it was actually well paced and a proper length, just not my thing, that's possible. the gray overlay (?) was so depressing though, even her bright and green home felt awfully unwelcoming)

Ponniyin Selvan has been watched (at a rather very late time last night) so here’s my review? (though I am in no position to review a mani ratnam film)

(I would like to emphasize this is my personal opinion and I would not like to start a war. There’s already one happening on Twitter if you’d like to go pick a bone)

Would I say this is the best Mani Ratnam film I’ve watched? No.

Would I say it’s his best from the past decade?. Heck yeah!

The movie (like one kind person said on this app) is fast paced and slow paced. If you’ve read atleast the first book, you’ll realize how jam packed the scenes are but if you’re clueless as to who the heck even the cholas are, this is gonna be one heck of a slow ride for you.

This movie is COMPLETELY different from the rajamouli periodic films (because some idiots on Twitter are comparing it to baahubali). There are barely any elevations, and the actors are very simply, just there when it’s time (in fact the only character that gets “a proper intro” is Aditya Karikalan, and it’s literally just him riding his horse through mist). Everything is super subtle and more pleasing on the aesthetic side. It’s more like an art film, like the ones of Kurosawa, than it is a commercial one like Rajamouli’s.

(Although, I actually am very interested to see how rajamouli would utilize a LOADED story like ponniyin selvan)

If you are planning on watching this movie, I would recommend reading the character descriptions on Wikipedia, because guess what? Mani sir does it again. Like in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, every character has an important role, but mani sir is practically running out of time to explore the characters deep enough, so we just get mere glances into who they actually are.

BUT THE ACTING (my lord the acting) does HEAVILY compensate for that. Simple glances, body language, voice modulations, if one observes carefully, they can understand what type of a person said character is.

For me personally, Karthi (my man), Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai SWEPT ME OFF MY FEET. Karthi is AMAZING as Vandiyadevan. Trisha and Aishwarya Rai can step on me and I WILL APOLOGIZE. My god. Their initial face off scene is one of, if not the best scene for me in the movie. (Also Vandiyadevan is one hell of a mood for simping over literally EVERYONE in this movie).

In the very little screen time that is given, Chiyaan Vikram is ABSOLUTELY fantastic (pleaseeee more characters where he actually acts and not just shows is skill of being versatile) and so is the rest of the main cast, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Shobitha. They’re on for very little, but when they are, you will not be able to take your eyes off of them.

And finally. The man of the hour. The person who literally carried this movie like Ponni did Arul Mozhi Varman. ISAI PUYAL AR RAHMAN. My god what did we do to deserve him? Many said the songs slowed down the pace, but honestly it kind of worked for me. And the BACKGROUND SCORE. HOLY CRAP IM GONNA NEED THAT OST. Super unique score and it kind of reminded me of Thiruda Thiruda (Donga Donga) Rahman where he just experiments with different styles and it works wonders. My personal favorite has to be the one that plays during the entire act of Kundavai and Nandini meeting for the first time. Some others are definitely when Vandiyadevan and Kundavai meet (and, of course, Vandiyadevan falls for her) and the ending of Chola Chola.

Stolas was a pretty obvious choice for you to be honest. Your interests and aesthetics click and just like you he’s chill but then pulls out the most chaotic actions out of nowhere.

You two met at night at one of those libraries you only see on pinterest. He honestly just came in cuz he was bored and wished to seek a recent human astronomy book. Yeah with those machines you see on tiktok with all the material. Stolas isn’t a morning person at all so he needs his daily coffee and only accepts premium quality. He invested in a home cinema and loves binge watching with you. Those are all things he didn’t get to do often so discovering them with you is a priceless experience in his eyes. Horror doesn’t bother him at all and he can show you much better horror tbh. Stolas also likes analyzing things with you (he listens and chimes in) and actually keeps up with your fixations really well. His favorite thing to do at home is to stay glued to your side.

Stolas often drags you to dance with him in the music room. He is attentive to your tastes and shows you his favorite pieces too! In general he is an attentive lover who adapts to your needs without being overbearing. If you accept his flaws your relation will be…stellar.

I did hesitate between a few characters (mainly Vaggie) but in the end Husk won. He’s chill but knows how to have fun. And he’s loyal.

You were at the hotel when you got to know Husk. He was being his usual snarky self but after a few nights (and talks) he slowly became friendlier. He even cracked jokes with you! Music definitely got the two of you to bond. You became someone he felt at ease with. The moment Husk considered sharing some of his problems with you he knew he fell, and fell hard. He started being more attentive to your needs and lost in your voice during your conversations. Everyone knew he was in love so one night they somehow managed to leave the two alone for the night. That’s when he confessed, knowing he couldn’t hold it in any longer.

As mentioned beforehand, Husk is a very attentive boyfriend. His love language is mostly acts of service and some quality time. He makes you your favorite drinks and will even learn the ways of a coffee barista for you. He’s proud of the way he makes you smile and feel loved as well as being your shoulder to vent to. Husk knows he has a way with words and people to make them feel at ease, he’d say it’s a positive trait of his that’s why he wants you to be included in it. Plus he gives good advices for someone with so many bad decisions. Husk likes going on weekly dates with you (besides dinner together every night that he cooks) to watch new movies. He’s mostly a domestic guy so going out in public is something he’d only do for you.

Husk calm demeanor is really helpful when you start getting irrational. He always help you keep a head on your shoulders and is the rational voice. Doesn’t mean he won’t encourage you to go ape shit when someone deserves it. While he prefers the calm, Husk still enjoys your occasional chaotic moments. He knows you try to lessen them for him but isn’t fully opposed to them as long as you’re safe. Low chance he’ll join you but some nagging will work. People are surprised that he’s with someone way more energetic than him but he just shoots some lovey dovey comment and they shut it. Angel is probably your biggest cheerleader in the relationship, he gives a lot of (sometimes helpful) advices to Husk.

While your hobbies differ greatly, I can see Husk appreciating them a lot. Especially your artistic side that he fully encouraged. He’s always there when you practice, even when you get frustrated or have an art block. Husk will become your hype man and do his best to motivate you. He probably got the binge watching habit from you much to Alastor dismay and he actually gets into soap operas….it’s funny to watch. Husk likes listening to you analyze or talk about greek mythology. His gambling is another issue and he needs another fixation for him to stop. Nostalgia is a vast concept, some people miss their parents’ house, miss playing around in the neighborhood, miss their teachers, miss the innocence of being a child, miss the spark they had in their eyes at that time;

And sometimes, there are people that miss others

You were one of these people, there was someone, probably the person you had ever been the closest to, that had deserted your life a couple years back, and strangely enough, it seemed as if time had stopped since then

You thought to yourself it was a foolish decision as you sat down to your kitchen table, a paper, and a pen in front of you. You had been telling yourself that for the entire week, since that idea had crossed your mind, you kept debating inside if it was incredibly stupid, or rather, something that could change your future greatly

Yuna and you were insepperable, since the very first moment you looked at each other, you instently clicked. There was something between the two of you that was beyond anyone’s else understandimg. Quite frankly, you didn,t need to grasp the concept of the connection you shared with her, as long as she was next to you, and that you were next to her, that’s all that mattered

You did everything together, going from accompanying her whenever she had detention, to pairing up for every single project, to throwing snowballs on the face of the other before heading inside freezing, to spending days cuddling and watching your favorite movies, there was not one of your lives where Yuna did not have a special place in it

And as you two grew up, your feelings evolved towards the other. It started with Yuna being even more protective than she usually was, wrapping her arms around you whenever someone thought it was a good idea to try and flirt with you. You started feeling warmer than you used to around her, feeling this strange urge to always be close to her. As time passed by, Yuna’s actions became more and more evident that you guys weren’t just friends, if it wasn’t for her constant teasing, nor her attempts at making you blush, it was certainly her kisses that she’d give you, claiming it was just “marking her territory so the others would know you’re hers”

It took a long while before you both had enough courage to confess to the other, trembling as she held you, you shared the most passionate kiss that night. It was so memorable that to this day, it is still vivid in your head

The months that followed were pure paradise, there was not a moment where you didn’t feel at ease with each other, it was the sweetest and purest relationship you had ever experienced

However, you had to let her go before you were ever ready to do so. Yuna’s parents had been talking about moving away for a few weeks by then, and they had finally taken their decision

That night was difficult, hard because you had both decided it would be best to not continue talking to the other, that the distance would be too hard, that it would be painful to not have each other to hold on to but than it was better than to hold on a glimpse of false hope

Yuna held you tight that night, she whispered many things to you, wished you the best life ever, and promised you that you would never be forgotten

As she head outside, out of your door, while you did your best to smile at her, wanting her to have a good last memory of you both being together

Your head was fuzzy, it was difficult to comprehend what was happening at that moment. Although you could barely see nor hear anything, due to feeling extremely drained, you thought for a second that she had said something,

Something like,

“The universe will send us back together, I promise you”

And you weren’t sure if your brain had just tricked you, or if truly, she had meant that

To this day, you still were unsure of those words, but a discobvery had made you change your mind. A few days ago, you had been called by your parents, as they wanted you to come home for the Holidays, and of ourse, you couldn’t refuse spending time with the people you most loved

After a few hours listening to your mother rant about stories you had already heard, your father had interrupted her, mentioning that he had found a box with a bunch of your old stuff. Excitedly enough, he had given you indications as to where it was located in the house

And now you were here, a few days later, with Yuna’s “new” address (at the time) in mind. While going through the box, you had found a little note, and you could almost immediately recognize her handwriting. You almost felt your heart explode when your eyes read the following : “My angel, I’m so scared my parents are going to make us move out sooner than they are supposed to. If they do, and you ever want to contact me, please know that my address will be…”

It was such a strange feeling as you realized what the paper was saying. If Yuna knew her address the entire time, and had purposely hid that in your stuff, why didn’t she just directly tell you where she lived ? Why didn’t she want to make things work ?

Firstly upset, you tried to ignore the flame you thought was gone a long time ago. Although you kept avoiding the subject and resisted the best you could, there was no other way than to face what you felt : you were still in love with her

So you began writing to her, maybe she wouldn’t open the letter, or wouldn’t even get it, but it didn’t matter, you felt as if not writing her today would mean loosing something far more important than anything else in your life

So you went ahead :

okay here are some tron 2.0 thoughts TEE HEE....... you have been Spoiler Warned for REAL!

tron fans talk abt this game with me okay 🥺

THIS GAME IS BEAUTIFUL .... MWWWWWAH!!!!!! i just love all the different environment designs, the color coding that went into the different computer systems was really cool too. my main takeaway is that the visuals Rule.

the npc designs were cool too but i kind of wish there was More variety (visually as well as voice acting)... but i really enjoy the design direction here ::-) why so many bald antagonist though? lol (AND WHY SO MANY MEN?)

In regards to gameplay i felt like it was pretty standard? i ended up using the basic disc weapon for most of the game because switching weapons takes Way too long if youre actively fighting, which is kind of a shame cuz there are so many weapon options... i did really enjoy the energy claw though 👍also the light cycle racing SUCKED and there was a graphical glitch that made it so that a bunch of visuals to my cycle were missing so i couldnt even enjoy the new design that was hyped up lol. as complicated as gameplay felt up front it definitely felt much better as it went on so it was pretty good.

game progression was very straightforward which i didnt expect..? go do this and then do that, etc. i thought it would be more open. this isnt rlly a complaint bc at least i wasnt lost or anything.

finding all the build notes was thankfully not hard but i enjoy poking around as much as i can in games already... and i liked the mechanics of searching archive boxes and being able to read emails between people ::-) YAY NOSINESS !!! despite finding all the build notes i still didnt end with the highest version i couldve...🤔 no idea how that works then...

moving on 2 story...

all the characters felt a bit flat so that was unfortunate... i wouldve liked to see some more emotions from everyone, bit more personality, etc...

i dont rlly know where jet's attachment to mercury came from, is he in love with this girl, if so why?? im thinking that since she was the first program to really reach out and help jet, that he latched on to her. but as the player i was kind of neutral on her SORRY although her design is cool

i was in disbelief that lora died and i was thinking she would just have been digitized and b in the computer somewhere? and there are allusions to her at least being superficially present in the program ma3a/ma2a etc (they have the same actress ^^__^^) but neither jet nor alan mention this which really shocks me??!!!??? thats your deceased mom or wife can u show a bit of tenderness or something..... maybe this can be cooked up more in an AU or something . idk i was really hoping she (and yori) would be around. i held on to hope for so long ✊️

OBVIOUSLY WISHING TRON WAS THERE... but omg alan being in the digital world shocked me so much i really liked that HEHE. him wearing tron's outfit was fun. i saw someone else in the tag say this, but if tron is "retired" then where is he?? INQUIRING MINDS WANNA KNOW !! he and jet werent very fazed by being digitized which surprised me buuut they also have to adapt fast given the urgency of their situation..

i felt rlly bad that thorne died SNIFFLE SNIFFLE jet and alan just watched a real guy die in front of them thats MESSED UP!! he was really cool too i enjoyed the corruption concept ::-) i was really worried the three fcon employees were gonna die too but im glad they implied that they could be repaired and manifested again.. evil ma3a was really cool 👍 tbh all the antagonists are cool except im neutral on the kernel. i was confused that he was red i thought he was evil like in the original movie with the MCP's soldiers.. but i think hes just a guy who happens to be red. and also trying to kill u but just bc you (jet) are a freak of computer nature and should not be there. thats fair. i enjoyed his boss fight too.

THE FCON MONSTER WAS RLLY COOL HOW AM I NOT SEEING ANY FANART OF THEM.... ::-( i have to fix this... ALSO I WISH they had dialogue. like are they even aware of their situation. missed opportunity !!

What about his backstory? Did he get bullied back at the colony? If he did, maybe he flinches whenever someone raises their hand. Do the crafts ask where he came from? If so, what's his excuse? Do they believe his lie, or are they suspicious? How do colony's work in this world? Is the reason he was so small to begin something to do with his size shifting ability? What if he meets one of the old borrowers from the colony? What would his relationship have been with Tommy? Nice to him, pitying him, or bullying him. What would their reaction be to him size shifting? I want to know everything.

This is canon. Yep definitely canon. Im going to say in a previous house he saw a map on a table once and heard it was the world. But doesn’t realise it’s obviously not to scale but def thinks the world is flat. He has a very heated argument about this with the twins and refuse to think otherwise without proof.

Constantly. As I said he’s different. The borrowers of this colony really did not like that he was different and they made sure to remind him of that. They’d either outright ignore him or deliberately make him do the worst jobs possible. Some borrowers (especially the ones around his age at the time) would deliberately go out of their way and hurt him for fun. So yes. Tommy in the beginning flinches a lot when he thinks he’s about to get hurt or someone moves to fast. Takes a long time for him to not be so tense about it but everyone is very patient about it and understanding when he semi outlines the abuse. The trauma of it all still a bit too fresh in his mid for detail

Yep of course they ask where he comes from! The Crafts wanna know who they need to go beat up. But I’m not gonna say if Tommy does or doesn’t say yet. Mainly because I’m not sure. But if he hadn’t yet, he’d tell them after the reveal properly.

Colonies in this world work a lot like the one in the 1997 The Borrowers movie in terms of how they have civilisation set up. There’s traders and stores and all sorts of things but they’re spaced out heavily and more built in underground caves then sewers. It’s more common for borrowers to live in forests and such then towns, but they have tunnels connecting places everywhere. This is how Tommy went from living in the smack bang middle of nowhere in the forest to living as an innie borrower in a house. Most borrowers know of the tunnels so a lot of innie borrowers are actually traders in a sorts that they’ll live in houses and bring back the ‘exotic human Bean’ things to trade in the colonies. Tommys parents however we’re not born in a colony, tho they knew of them, and lived mainly outside. But they were not very kind people and when Tommy was born, it just became more obvious to them that their child was different and so rather than waste supplies on a child they now didn’t want, they abandoned him.

Yes. Tommy being smaller than everyone else is because of his sizeshifter abilities. Sizeshifters born are kind of stunted in height. It’s part of how you can identify them. They’re also just a lot thinner and more lanky in appearance because they have the ability to change size and this somewhat allows them to do that. (Or I think it’s just funny to describe Tommy as lanky) but yeah even as they get older, they’re just a lot weaker physically too which would be fine because their shifting sort of makes up for that aspect. So while Tommy is an inch shorter then everyone else his age in the colony, if he knew he could size shift, he wouldn’t have been hindered as much.

If Tommy ever met someone from the old colony again, I think he’d probably just run out of the walls to find Wil, Phil or Techno. I think itd probably be one of his bullies that hurt him the most and Tommy would just go into panic attack mode and run for his life while probably being chased by them. He’d then run screaming into the room for someone while the bully still pursues them, and then of course he shifts. They’d be terrified and book it back to the walls and get away as fast as possible, while Tommy receives comfort cuddles.

Tommy is just scared child that runs from danger. He needs therapy.

worst season of rvb poll got me thinking about. the worst season of rvb. anyway heres an analysis of every instance of time travel in rvb (and, by extension, the main reason season 16 is my least favourite).

[the tenses in this post are all over the place i am SO sorry. i hope it still makes sense]

church and gary (blood gulch)

first instance of time travel is church getting blasted back in time on sidewinder and then having gary send him back. (this may have gotten retconned? i know them ending up in the distant future got retconned, but i feel like church going to the past could still work..... either way im talking about it as if it was time travel.) honestly GREAT time travel. no branching timelines or alternate versions: church going back to blood gulch didnt change anything, because he already traveled back and caused all that stuff to happen. its a perfect closed loop.

even him going back over and over on sidewinder is consistent, because the one timeline is the one we see- the one where all of the churches combined do whatever it is they all do, at the same time, and the nth church ends up in the present with his friends. its a little iffy because some of the dialogue kind of implies that the first church got there and no other churches were there, tried some stuff and then went back and there were 2 churches, etc etc until we got to the nth church. but thats not how time travel works and it wasnt shown on screen, so. im choosing to believe that its correct.

it also doesnt make sense that he shows up in the present at a different time than everyone else (coincidentally, the exact moment the viewer is at in the story 🤔🤔), implying that like, time passed while he was dealing with the time travel stuff? also not how it works, but it was for dramatic timing so. i kinda get it.

wyoming (blood gulch)

next up is blood gulch wyoming! i hate that they changed his power later because this one is SO much more interesting. the way i understand it, he can essentially send his present consciousness, with all of its memories and experience, into his past body of a few minutes ago. this one DOES change the timeline, because every time he goes back, he uses his memory of something that hasnt happened to change the course of events. its a little different from typical branching timelines time travel, because his whole body doesnt go back (although there is an x-men movie that does it like this!), and it makes for a really cool power. it DOESNT make sense that tucker remembers the future that doesnt happen, but thats par for the course with this show (although usually its caboose who knows stuff he should have no way of knowing). and it makes for a fun fight rather than a one sided beat down.

but there is an inconsistency here that genuinely bothers me- why does wyoming leave copies behind?? with church it made sense, because his present body went into the past, where his past body already exists. but with wyoming, his consciousness is transferred to his past body. thats how he retains the memories of what happened (will happen? doesnt happen? was going to happen?). it seems like they just threw the copies in there because they were like "well church left copies behind so clearly time travel means you make copies" without thinking about where those copies come from and how it works.

season 16

here it is. the worst season (well.... my least favourite, anyway). season 16 CANNOT decide if its a closed loop or not. the moment where caboose travels back and asks the reds and blues about his lucky penny? closed loop! he was there the first time, we thought he was present caboose. but genkins erasing pizza? he went back in time and changed something, and now theyre in a timeline without pizza. which could work as a branching timeline, except how did the reds and blues get from the pizza timeline to the no-pizza timeline?

and its frustrating because, even if they were going to do it this way, theyre still not consistent about it! because there are closed loop cause-and-effect moments that make perfect sense, like sarge giving his past self the idea to punch achilles (or something to that effect, i havent watched this season in a while). their whole dilemma is about whether they have free will or not, but that same scene has already clearly shown that they dont! simmons was always going to call his past self because that call ALREADY HAPPENED. present simmons will be unable to say anything different than what he already heard himself say, because thats how the call went. sarge was always going to give himself the idea to punch achilles because thats how he got the idea in the first place. they distinctly show us a closed loop and then get all worked up about whether its a closed loop or not. like?????

its almost written like theres one timeline, where the present "updates" every time someone makes a change. but thats not how time works! if genkins erased pizza then he has ALWAYS erased pizza, and pizza has never existed. OR he erased pizza and created an alternate timeline where pizza doesnt exist, which doesnt effect this timeline at all. making changes to the past doesnt "update" the present, the past CAUSES the present and always has caused the present. i know its hard to wrap your head around, because we're used to causality happening in order. so we think "if the reds and blues go back in time, clearly the effects of that would happen after they go back in time". but no, the effects would happen after they arrived in the past, which is BEFORE they time traveled in the first place. this is the nature of time travel and SO many movies get it wrong.

theres also the problem of the "present". its something i see in a lot of time travel stories and it always bugs me. what is the present to a time traveler? yes, we live in the present, but people 100, 1000, 10000 years ago also lived in the present. its just not the present anymore. what makes our present more special than theirs? when a time traveler arrives in a new time, either before or after the moment they just left, is that not now the "present" to them and the people living there? the present isnt an absolute, its relative to where someone is in time. so it seems self-centered to me, to decide that the present of the main characters is The Absolute Present. everything in The Past affects The Present and only The Present. the way i see it, every moment in time exists, and theyre always experienced in order, but the person who is experiencing it is always experiencing "the present". so every moment is simultaneously past, present and future.

and the worst part is that they ALMOST get it. the writers clearly know the difference between a closed loop and a branching timeline, and that those differences affect how paradoxes are resolved, but not WHY theyre different or how they actually work. so they present it like everything hinges on paradoxes, which is just. not true??? they even use the example of the grandfather paradox, which is HILARIOUS because if you use a coherent form of time travel, its not a paradox. if your time travel is a closed loop, you wont be able to kill your grandfather. the past already happened, and your grandfather didnt die, therefore you wont be able to kill him. it didnt happen, so it wont happen. and if its a branching timeline, you can kill your grandfather, and then from that moment forward there will be 2 futures: one where you exist, and one where you dont. since youre now in the one where you dont exist, going to the future of this timeline will be a future where you dont exist. but you arent from this timeline. so itll be weird for you to be here with no parents, and your parents in your original timeline will wonder what happened to you, but. its fine. not a paradox. so the whole thing about them breaking time with a paradox is kind of annoying because like. it wouldnt happen at all if the time travel was actually consistent with reality.

and like, yeah the inconsistent time travel is essential for the story, but thats no excuse. if you want branching timelines, the "lost in the past" story becomes WAY more interesting. have them go to different times, change things, then end up on a completely different timeline than the others. hell, have grif fuck something up that ends up erasing pizza, then he has to try to get back to the timeline that has pizza. make the portals have the capability to jump to alternate timelines as well (not just forward and back through the current timeline), but theyre difficult to use and all the reds and blues are lost in alternate universes- unable to communicate with each other and unsure which timeline is the original. running into alternate versions of themselves or the people they know, creating more and more alternate timelines by continuing to change the past..... THATS a lost in time story.

alternatively, if you want the whole "you cant change the past" message that comes from trying to save wash, go with the closed loop version. the chaos of the past gets less chaotic but arguably funnier: the reds and blues would inadvertently cause major historical events, either in an attempt to prevent them or just by being there and causing mayhem. and then the attempt to save wash never works, no matter how many times they try, because the past cant be changed. kind of a similar arc to church on sidewinder, but having the whole gang involved would be fun

season 17

and finally, season 17. this one is more like the wyoming version, where their present consciousness is sent into their past bodies and the timeline branches. it wreaks absolute havoc on the timeline, which is the point, but this time it works! theres one "main" timeline, which is the show as we watched it, and chrovos' goal is to create as many branches as possible by changing major events. each branch doesnt effect the main timeline, and every time they jump, they go back to the original timeline. i like this one! its consistent, logical, and unique without being confusing. the bit about everything after time got broken being 2 timelines simultaneously was a little implausible, but its consistent with time being "broken" so ill allow it.

the stuff about black holes sending you to the beginning of the universe makes no sense, and neither does having genkins be chrovos. they clearly didnt think about the timeline enough and this is a major plot hole. but at least its a closed loop! and having huggins time travel by traveling at the speed of light is just blatantly incorrect (yes, the speed of light is the fastest you can go. but light still takes time to travel. it doesnt go backwards through time). just have her be able to time travel, shes a mystical ball of light, you make the rules.

having them heal the timeline was cool, and sort of coming to terms with the fact that you cant change the past, and that all the bad stuff that happened got them to where they are now, was a coherent and well-implemented message. its the only season thats a genuine time travel story, and i like it! i think the time travel supplements the story really well.
