writing about the evidence for house spirits and how demons in the house differ from demons in the natural world in the 12th c and earlier for my phd and thinking about the designs of house spirits that i drew for my medieval fantasy comic back in like 2019. i still love them. they start invisible, just like a draft you feel, an unexpected creak in the house. theyre the force that makes your threads tangle with dead hair. and then over time they start to collect Things, start to fashion themselves bodies out of lint and dirt and things you mutter under your breath. peak friends.

Minish cap thoughts part 23 (I think?) Final battles

im not gonna lie, most of this is trolling on Vaati.

So those darknuts were a pain in the ass and my previous tactic of "use a shield and strike strategically" was just a no go so I had to do the "jump over with rocs cape" : (

Anyway, im not gonna lie. Vaati kinda lost his goddamn mind. At the beginning, he was like this suave, cool headed and sly (he thinks) villain who had a plan. Not a great one, mind. It wasn't really smart to shout your evil plan in front of the king and princess. But he still HAD one.

By the end, he's basically just "POWER! POWER! POWER!" like a novice electrician left to wire an entire house with no training day one of the job and he's just thrilled the lights turn on.

The watsonian explanation is that like the climax of the game is where players are the most excited and itching to fight a big bad and you don't want to ruin it with more exposition, but from a doylist sense, we've kind of already seen his decline. When he kidnapped the king, King Daphnes (you learn his name from fusing kinstones), he was already a lot more erratic and careless than he was at the festival, relying on his disguise to trick the soldiers cause his attitude sure didn't. I think it's interesting, especially since his later appearances in the timeline are also more aimless beyond the general direction of "get power, do evil"

There are also some things I want to point out. The big eye placement on his first design was. You know what, maybe my mind is just in the gutter, but it was A Choice.

Ok and then the second form is a giant orb. Classic Vaati. I like teh way he spits out purple spiky ball things that you can hit and will hela you, like uh if you're trying to kill the kid, maybe DON'T send him healing supplies? Just an idea.

I get why it's there from a gameplay perspective, bc he woulda handed my ass to me otherwise and i probably spent like 5 min straight farming those bitches for health.

Also, the end of this phase is literally you get teh final hit, Vaati bitches about "NO! BUT I WAS SO POWERFUL!" Calls himself a GOD and then

just fucking blows up.

Maybe you shoulda budgeted less for interior design and terraces hanging forebodingly over red, ashen landscapes.... and more for supports to make those terraces structurally sound!

So you run through the castle back to the sanctuary and the only place off path you can access is the little pot room with bombs, arrows, and fairies in bottles that you can leave and enter and get as many fairies as you like. So then you lead Zelda to the sanctuary, and Vaati just kinda teleports you both to a Super Smash floating Final Destination type stage where you fight him, and he has claw arms this time! That ngl are REALLY similar to Null's from Echoes of Wisdom, but which have a more mechanical vibe, because of the "enter it, blow it up" thing from the mech boss in teh fortress of winds.

This battle. I. Fucking ran around so long not knowing wtf I was supposed to hit that Ezlo was like "Have you tried literally anything besides your sword" which was my cue that there was something in my pouch, but what? Would I have guessed cane of Pacci? Not until I tried fucking EVERYTHING ELSE

ugh. But then he's dead for realsies this time except not really bc previous games that this is a prequel to.

Anyway. Zelda restores the castle and wishes away the monsters. I would like to point out that when you first turn her back to flesh, she was like "I was kinda watching you in a dream!" Which is reminiscent of BotW Zelda and her talking mentally to Link during his journey, but not after 100 years trapped with a giant monster so way more adorable and less angsty. And then this.

Also, I love Ezlo talking all wise and shit "The evil in vaati turned my magic cap to darkness... but Zelda's light made a miracle!" or whatever it was like we have not just gone through a whole ass game knowing how you REALLY talk. I am still not over the droplet dungeon when Ezlo asks if Link is STILL UNDER HIM lmaooo

And then he goes back to teh minish world. And the sanctuary closes. And I realized.

LINK NEVER PUT THE FOUR SWORD BACK IN THE SANCTUARY.

Vaati is NOT sealed in the pedestal, because Ezlo closed the gate before Link could put it back! So until a new one is constructed for this sword, literally just for MEMORIAL purposes as far as these kids know, Link's just. Idk going to knight practice and casual spars with it. lmfao. I think Vaati was sealed in the SWORD bc obviously that was established in Four Swords games lore already but like. The sword can be wielded just fine until he builds enough strength to break free. I guess at least until he does the first time, and then you have the sword/pedestal sealing combo for the King Arthur moment.

And then it's just the credits with the adorable toon style artwork my beloved. I love Wind Waker's toon style even though I haven't played it, but I know its toon style is like Minish cap's but more goofy, while MC is the style taken into the quaint, cozy type cute.

Katalepsis after live-read thoughts collection

So, now that im caught up about in time for book 1 to end, i am just regurgitating half-thoughts ive had along the ride, doing some retrospection and working my way through all the stuff i still want to draw.

I think thats one of the big things i really noticed and appreciated about katalepsis. Theres just drawability to it. I havent decided yet if its Hungrys writing style in general, the genre, or most likely, a characteristic of Heathers that got me to figure out i can use my laptop as a drawing tablet. Heather in her internal monologue just has a real appreciation for spaces.

A space is rarely a backdrop to do a scene in, the places and buildings and dimensions are characters to heather in a way that just makest a lot of sense for someone who grew up seeing the personified spirits of the everyday world as well as the varied wilds of Outside.

When the Stairwell trap is sprung, theres a very real feeling of betrayal, the willow house has forsaken raine and heather, who previously thought it a sanctuary.

We later learn that the space was bound, artificial, forced to act against its inhabitants in a way a house usually would not, which fits some themes that come up waaaaayy later.

I originally thought this would just be a quirk of heathers, some flavor to her thought processes, but it really did get picked up as an actual story beat, not just an aesthetic, with the soul of edward lilburnes house.

The Outside places are a bit more metaphorical about this, but strangely more clearly alive as well. The Library is an extension of the catalogue, wonderland is dominated by the eye. Ooran Juhs Projected space is his own physical gullet. Carcosa is the stage of a living play. The very first outside space we get to properly see is on the back of some giant creature, hairs and all.

Theres just Personality to every place that keeps them all so very, very vivid.

Ive been planning to draw wonderland ever since the mirror incident at the very beginning of the story, and in a very funny way, as ive drawn other stuff along the way ive been training for wonderland and the eye along with the cast. I really want to do it justice.

Staying on said cast for a bit, ive already talked about raine for a good bit, but theyre all amazing. I was always happy to see that an arc or a few chapters would become a cast members designated backstory time, because i really do want to know more about them and how they work as people. After about the middle point of the story though, those moments and how they connected became pretty hard for me to keep track off

For a reader who was along for the ride since the start, having to wait between chapters as they come out, the pacing probably works way better than it did for me.

I found myself really wishing for more time with the spookycule in each stage of development it had. Early katalepsis with just raine evee and heather is probably where it was the closest to ideal for me, in terms of just vibes i enjoy and things to keep track of.

I dont want to be too analytical, im bad at that, but for example we only see the fractal used to banish a sharrowford cult servitor once.

There could have been way more time spent in the twilight of magic, the street level zone, where every accidental slip outside is a moment of grand terror, and heather learns to live with the idea that the spirits are real.

For someone who gets called “Shaman” a lot later on, we only really see her asking a spirit for directions once (the wrecking ball hands gorilla), where i was expecting that to become a very integral bit of her kit as a character. I love the cephalopod changeling we got instead, but i do feel there could have been a heather who learned to work with her non brain pain vomit inducing abilities for practical reasons, at least for a little while.

After that comes the Messenger demon and maisies message. Knowing the rest of the story, i love that the primary motivation set up here has jack and shit to do with Ed or Alex. This isnt a story about killing the bad guy, its in a very serious way a story about love and that is what should motivate the characters.

Ed and Alex really are just invaders to the story, who grasp at threads that should not concern them at all, with their meddling eventually causing the collapse of Alexs portion of the cult under the Eyes gaze.

I dont quite know how much actual space is in between Kimberly and Zheng joining the household, but this is really the part of the story where just a lot happened at once. We get both badger and sarika, the entire abyss transformation and zheng so very close together.

During the time of the dead hands there is actually some breathing room though. Mostly because set dead hands keep us consigned to a breathable atmosphere for a bit.

The other big stretch of story that i wish lasted longer is the post proposal journey with sevens and saldis through carcosa. Given how time works outside, that whole stretch of time could have really stretched for a while without threatening the maisie limit, and i do wish that some of sevens later character development had happened in here, since i didnt quite know what to think of her after they left the palace, whereas right now in the end she is one of my favourites. I still dont know what i think of the king in yellow being in this story at all, but thats a me issue.

Yeah, so given that most of the smaller thoughts ive already posted in the liveread chat, i guess ive now covered my two big thoughts. I love how katalepsis treats spaces, and the only thing i had any problems with was the pacing, which tbh might just be because i didnt take my time when reading at all.

Time for even less structured thoughts now, just a rapid fire of things that come to mind after reading:

I hope we eventually get a perspective on the worlds cosmology from a mage fully unconnected to the vaguely interconnected british underworld of mages, im very curious how deeply different interpretations of outside, the abyss, demons and beyonders a person might have if they never interacted with the humunculus wars environment. The abyss beeing wet and aquatic seemed to be a general truth, to edward, zheng and even lozzie, until we met taika for example. I want to see more of that.

I said earlier that sevens has become one of my favourites, which is kinda stupid since most characters are my favourite at something by some measure, but Raine and Evee are still the two that are the most meaningful or connected to me. Ive already gone into maybe too much detail on how Raine just works in a way that ive never seen portrayed in anything for some reason. What i havent really realized until about now is how similar evees struggle is. There is that same need to feel useful. They both define their fundamental self via a skill that is in some way repulsive to them for whatever reason, and must cling to another to point them in a direction where they feel they can use it to do good. Evee has to feel useful, has to justify her presence and her dangerous knowledge to herself to some degree, and helping heather is how she does it for now.

The fundamental difference i think is that Raine chose to define herself that way, as knight errant, as supporter, while evee feels any other option to act on the world was taken from her by her mother. This mostly takes the form of her physical disability often stopping her from acting in time, reaching places, but also stopping her anorgasmia seemingly stopping her from loving in the way she thinks is correct (at that point of the story at least. Both of those are changing of course, mostly thanks to Praem).

It kind of lines up with Kimberly in a funky way, since she essentially decided not to use sorcery to justify her presence, both in the house and the story, but still remained around and appreciated, as a sort of in universe counterpoint to evees negative view of herself.

Thats all i can think of for now, i dont actually now how to end this, this isnt a sotry analysis, i have no conclusion except that im glad i caught up so close to the end, because im excited to see all of us react to whatever crazy shit is going down live!

More Hyrule Warriors thoughts because I’m still in the hole

I’m now at the point in the first two adventure maps where the only things left to do are insane boss rushes and I’ve realized now that I only beat the legend mode end bosses out of luck. I have no idea how either Ganon fight actually works. I’ll look up a tutorial sometime but not right now.

In the meantime I started the first normal rank map. It’s annoying. Fuck off with your “no heal” challenges I SPENT SO MUCH TIME GETTING ALL THOSE ILLUSTRATIONS TO GET BETTER POTIONS AND YOU TAKE THEM AWAY??? I’m gonna eat you.

I have like 5 fairies but I only use the first one I got cause she has an ability that instantly revives you if you die and none of the others have anything even close to that good so far. Plus she’s the one wearing the Ghirahim cosplay.

I haven’t gotten many hats. It bugs me cause none look good with the Ghirahim cosplay. Why can’t I just get like, a red headband or something???? Why did I have to get a random skull???

I’ve finally gotten a huge string of weapon upgrades so a lot of characters are useful for the first time in the entire game and I’m having SO MUCH FUN WITH IT

Specifically I’m really liking Twili Midna! I didn’t get her moves at first but I’ve started to really vibe with it now that she has some decent damage output (also that X special is OBSCENE just annihilate an entire room no biggie)

I found out you can go over level 100. I thought I was doing okay with keeping the gang leveled up (I go in 5 level jumps where I’ll sell a shit ton of weapons to get rich then level the entire roster up at once) having everyone at a minimum of 40, but it turns out I was wrong and now Link is level 102 and I don’t know how to plan for this future the disparity is so much larger than I anticipated (I stopped playing as him much but I keep finding maps that require him)

So right now I’m maining Sheik at like 65 or something, then once they hit like 90 I’ll probably go to Ganondorf or Impa (I finally figured out how to play her giant blade god bless)

Primarily right now I’m jumping between going back to maps I didn’t get a-rank on and replaying them and going through free mode getting every stage done on hard + getting skulltulas I abandoned during legend mode, it has actually gotten me pretty good levels

I cannot however finish the level to upgrade Volga’s weapon, I need to A-rank a goddamn full level with a close-quarters imprisoned fight at the end like BLOCKING DIESNT DO SHIT WHEN ITS ACTUALLY EATING ME! IM IN ITS MOUTH THERES NOWHERE TO RUN IM IN A CAVE

tbh i don’t have anything specific that i stick to when it comes to writing… which when i think about it now is kinda strange bc when it comes to other things i always have to have some kind of plan/a list or anything that can guide me so i can be more efficient and productive, but when it comes to writing i just make sure to ALWAYS write down any ideas that come to mind in one document, and when i’m in the mood to write i go through them and pick whatever sparks my creativity in that moment and go from there (yall have no idea how many random conversations i have in my notes that just sit there 🫣)

i’m a mood writer 100% and that’s why i avoid sticking to plans or schedules or i will just get burnt out very quickly if i have to work on something that doesn’t excite me as much as other ideas that day, or if i don’t feel like writing at all, cause i have those days too ofc

i know it’s easier said than done, but don’t ever feel bad or guilty for taking your time with your works!! we’re here to create and have fun, so your own enjoyment and health comes first. try out different creative approaches, see how you’d feel and do what works best for you! i’ve realised that i write easier when i don’t stick to one particular thing/process, but i’m sure there are many ppl who are totally the opposite. don’t be hard on yourself okay, your readers will understand and will still enjoy what you put out <3

i’m rambling now, but i’m gonna share one more thing in case it helps someone? for me the beginning of the story is always challenging and i’ve realised that starting with a dialogue helps me get into it. most times i end up deleting it lol but just writing any kind of dialogue helps me start from somewhere, that’s something i always do if i get stuck on a specific part of the story too… music is also a must when i write! it keeps me inspired, sometimes it gives me ideas too, and i write easier and quicker when i listen to songs that have a similar vibe to what i’m working on

I’m really trying to get back into the swing of things with my mood and writing, but it’s a bit hard for me rn. I have to kick up the gear and work extra hard on studying since I will be going off to college next year 🥲 not only that but it’s just an extremely emotional time of year for me because I have seasonal depression, I’m back in a bit of a grieving stage rn since having three deaths back to back around this time last year and going into early this year so I’m kinda emotional about that rn and everything is just kinda a lot, BUT! I will power through it and work + update (me manifesting LMFAO) 😭.

When it comes to country lovin’(cause I know some of yall wondering when that’s getting updated) I plan on releasing those chapters when it isn’t so cold. IM SORRYY, but I just don’t have the vibes to write it like that rn because country lovin’ is such a summertime read and I associate it with summer so much that it’s kinda hard to write it when it’s cold, especially since the winter makes me sad and country lovin’ is supposed to be warm for the most part. Hopefully, I can get rid of that association and still write for it though cause I already have more plans for it and I really enjoy writing it. Killa hotline on the other hand, I honestly don’t think I’ll update it again. It’s a possibility, but I’m just not focused on that storyline rn sooo yeah.

As for the Halloween fics that didn’t come out, I’m not sure I’m gonna put those out at all actually. I might wait till next year spooky season or something idk. Or maybe if I get in the spooky mood I’ll release them lmao.

hi huh. this could be my last lastart ask 🥹 im sorry to be whiny here but i'm heartbroken minjae didn't debut in nct tokyo. i dreaded it cos he's not one of the clearly strong candidates from how the judges ranked him and his stage performance but it still hurt. this is my first time watching a survival show too. its not a traditional survival and it all was decided before but this is still how it feels to root for someone's debut..

i know so little about minjae comparing to urichil especially jaedo but i love his voice. his personality doesnt stand out but humble and gentle is one of my types 🥺 i like him enough from the show to want to know more about him as a person, even with the little screentime he got. i planned on stanning nct tokyo if he debuted there cos i already love nct lore, concepts and ofc the music but since he's not in the unit.. i might not be able to stan. i'm too emotional. i do like riku and yushi but it's just not enough for me to stay invested. i'll just support their music as a listener.

minjae is a 02 line trainee and he's training for 2 years already. riize just debuted. nct tokyo will debut soon. sm claimed theyll debut artists more but i just can't see it in at least 2 or 3 more years. even so trainees will go and new trainees will come. combinations and concepts will keep changing as we have seen and not the best vocalists (or dancers, rappers, visuals) get chosen. we never know for real why hansol and yongju left, could be how sm had no clear plans for them too but i also feel like yongju wasn't a dancer and hansol not really a singer or rapper at the time. like minjae now. sm wants performers or if not, someone with extreme skills on one end must have no other worthy rivals at the time. adding korea military service and the industry trends to debut younger trainees, minjae has limited time in sm. 02 is considered kinda old now no matter how ridiculous it sounds.

at the end of lastart minjae looked like he still had hope and would still try to be an idol but i wonder like you if he'll still be in sm. he's still there atm but the younger trainees have more time. i'll root for minjae in whatever path he chooses but i think he fits sm best with the talent and music style, even if his stage presence is still lacking. i also dont really dig other companies' bg sounds tbh 😢 idk i just can only see him fit in sm group or just go solo as a ballad or pop singer.

enough about minjae rant. i know anderson stood out without blending in but i'm still SHOOK he's not become a neo. he seems neo for me, just not fit with most lineup members. i agree nct tokyo looks like they are going the youthful route first. i got this feeling from the members' visuals and heights too. sion is the only tall one now and maybe daeyoung. minjae and anderson might change the group vibes. (haruta and heitetsu are tall too but they had lower chance to debut.) ryo is unexpected for me tbh even with his 90's love but i know jp fans are gonna love him like sakuya and sm probably thought he was a young one with potential. he's also the most popular jp trainee after yushi, riku and sakuya.

minjae and anderson are popular among kr, jp and international fans too but sm chose daeyoung over minjae and sakuya over anderson ig.

anderson said he would take a break. he had only been training for 6 months in sm but i feel he felt he was close to debut with his previous performance ranking. i'm honestly most shocked about him not chosen even tho i know he has different vibes from others.

I was saying that it not always only about skill, a trainee needs to fit the concept and the rest of the trainees.

This idol show was just at least. It's worse when those who debuted are obviously less skilled than the ones you rooted for due to fans' bias. All chosen future neos make sense one way or another.

SM wanted a main vocal. Daeyoung also offered rap and better stage precence than Minjae (despite a few months of training, i.e. he progresses faster). And visually he blends better with the rest. His face is kind of roundish, on a bland side, but make up will improve it. Minjae's face is elegant and cold. He is very contrasting to others. Still, I think his downfall was his lack of progress in stage presence.

I don't know Minjae, obviously, but I wonder if becoming a soloist is better for him. He likes singing and he wants to touch people's hearts. Idolship hardly offers this. We know Doyoung struggles. He had a period of "I will do my best, sing what I have to sing", when he wasn't into NCT songs and his parts. 4 seasons didn't work. Taeil is still waiting for his solo despite his golden voice, for which he was chosen over Doyoung for 127 (although Do studying Chinese played a role in it too, heh). Minjae doesn't have Doyoung's assertiveness and will. Being an idol might become a burden, too much for him to handle. Trainees don't really know what is ahead of them. There was that case of Winner's main vocal leaving soon after debut. He won the competition, got the ultimate prize, and found out it wasn't what he desired in the end. If Minjae hones his voice, he can become an OST singer, sing before live public.

Anderson would have been chosen if not for SaRyo, who are Japanese. He isn't an obvious rapper like Riku, and Sakuya is also entertaining. Hansol was a better dancer than Johnny, but he was timid (had less fans, I suppose), and he had no other advantages like English for extra points. Anderson is still, like, 18? He is very self-managing and optimistic, he will make it. Maybe he will be the reason to pay attention to the next SM group, heh. He is kind of repeating Shotaro's path. If he won't change his mind about being an idol in Korea, we will see him again. He either cameback home to graduate school or spend time with his parents.

Despite Kassho not being ready, I really wanted him as a neo, he fits the concept so well. So I get you.

As one of the judges said, the contestants who didn't win got exposure and gained fans. It's already an advantage. There are popular groups consisting of Produce 101 trainees who were eliminated in the beginning or in the middle (Oneus, Everglow). Not winning a show is not the end. It all depends on the will to succeed, who has it in them. And I think SM will keep the promise of debuting a new group every 2-3 years. They can do it by diversifying genres.

Seeing his posts bring a smile to my face. I'm just a fan who wants to support him. I feel like im so ready to drop money and buy up all those albums. And on other days, I miss seeing Rii7e so much I binge watch the tik tok vidz. How can I accept that SH will never dance to Talk saxy again with the members?

And on some days, I remember how cruel the company has been and the broke trust. If 8 months on and they still are deliberating on bringing him back and rejoining the group, I really have no faith that they will treat him well if he rejoins. I do not wish for SH to be an afterthought in their plans or stand at the back on stages.

And this wavering continues.

SH is such a great performer- I love seeing his stages and fancams - that's what star quality is. I've seen idols who are more chiseled, dance and sing even better but i was not attracted haha. There truly is something about SH 's silly cat vibes that I find so endearing.

Which is why I kinda agree with building up a solo identity and showcasing his dance talents and how adorable SH is.. to those who do not know him well.

And of cos showcasing the tremendous support he has.

I mean the likes and engagement on his IG is healthy, not crazy in millions, but its consistently showing 200k -300k likes each post which is almost a 40% engagement based on his followers. That's a super loyal and engaged fan base, ain't it?

In this aspect I agree with building up that solo identity. Delusional ones felt that SH will harm the group, so on the contrary this shows that he has alot of support and will bring in fans and a different energy to the group.

funny how you say he's more tiger than squirrel bc as i recall, he is born in the year of the tiger. but personally, to me, he's a bit of both actually! his stage persona is more tiger (powerful, mesmerising, dangerous, demands to be seen) while hongjoong as a person is 100% squirrel (cute, soft, curious, mischievous, cute, smiley, did i say cute). AND YES I AGREE HE'S A HATER THROUGH AND THROUGH. honestly when he's not on stage or in front of a camera, hongjoong is actually a really calm and soft spoken person. i could listen to him talk for hours bc his speaking voice is so soothing and he's always using such a gentle tone.

OOOO OKAY INTERESTING and no, dw you don't sound delulu. i think you're forgetting that this is a fanfic blog, that's like the highest level of delulu. but yes, while i agree he definitely gives off a laidback vibe, i think he's actually quite proactive when it comes to trips! take for example, the matz lake como trip. as i recall, hwa said that hongjoong planned the entire trip and that he was basically passenger princessing the entire day. it's his love language shining through here. but i think, like you said, some of the more mundane things, like ordering food and what movie to watch etc. he'd probably leave it up to you. having someone handle the simpler things takes a lot of his shoulders (imo) but! don't mistake that for him not having an opinion! i think he'd still want a say in what is chosen but he'd take greater consideration for your choices. HI HELLO THIS IS 6 MONTHS OLD and I told you I'd get to it when I finished PJ but I never did so... here it is. Long overdue. Enjoy @kindsummer <3

I have several projects open in various stages of development rn including a few weird short stories and potential fics. But you did say to ramble so I'll stick to the two main ones you mentioned back then cause there's a lot to say - Project Jade and the Academy of Chaotic Arts. I'll chuck it all under the cut cause god knows I can't shut up

First we have Project Jade aka PJ, my first bigger original work and beloved firstborn child, currently standing at 132k with its first draft posted on AO3. It's a soft dystopia set in a vaguely post-apocalyptic AU of Europe, and the beating heart of it all is our main duo of best friends that has been rotating in my mind every single day for the past three years. There's Freya, bird nerd extraordinaire with zero impulse control and general menace. She usually has twelve hobbies going concurrently, hasn't sat still a day in her life, and feels everything a bit too much. And then we have her best friend Oscar. A lazy little computer nerd raised by two elderly Russians (the dry slavic sass comes with the package), will nap on any surface available and spends 90% of his time roasting Freya's life choices but secretly loving the chaos. Besties since eight years old, and our main POVs.

The worldbuilding and political situation is a bit of a mess (the main thing I need to fix in the edit), but the general idea is that after a major accident some time back, the mainland Europe countries temporarily united into one to help with damage control and the remnants of that big thing are where we are set. There's also an element of mandatory genetic testing for folks wanting to have babies but I won't get too spoilery about it in here, just very present in both plot and general setting.

For main themes I'll be a cliche bitch and say found family. Runners up are hopepunk and slight thriller/mystery vibes at certain parts but my bio says 'bestieism and siblingism enthusiast' for a reason. There's a million configurations of platonicity in this thing. From the main besties who were an absolute joy to write to some younger kids who I also love, and both the MCs' families play huge roles in this as well (so Freya's parents and older sister, and his adoptive parents). There's also one arc that ended up being so much more important and intricate than planned, and I once again won't spoil too much but let me just say I got annoyed at authors putting their fictional kids through absolutely horrific shit and the consequences just getting brushed off two chapters later, so there will be no brushing it off here. And so much of that didn't even make it into the final story. But yeah major mental health themes (issues and ultimately treatment as well), and if I end up going into psych nursing after graduating it would quite literally be this imaginary kid's fault.

Lastly I'll just give a bit of a timeline for my PJ-related plans, cause you did say to ramble. I'm fully aware that in its current state it's nowhere near ready to go out into the world - it's my first bigger thing and I learned so much about what it takes to craft a story through it - so I want to do a thorough edit and revision sometime soon. Then I also have three sets of individual scenes planned outside the main story - a trio of moments before the story (like a prequel), a trio for the besties' uni era and a trio for when they're older. Will probably get to those after the edit, except for one of them that I deliriously wrote while driving across Norwegian fjords. And I think that would be it for PJ? Needless to say if you have literally any questions or thoughts about if please drop in anytime, I am going mental here

Next up: The Academy of Chaotic Arts aka the ACA <3 Newer project, born out of my mom calling me an agent of chaos so many times that I made a WIP about folks who actually do it for a living. Set in London with the occasional detour. No supernatural elements in here, the main concept is the chaos-order balance (the COB), which is a tangible thing that can be measured with complex social science-y methods and which the agents are tasked with maintaining. The premise is that the world is skewing more and more into the order side - everyone plans everything, we do the same things the same way every day, etc - so the work consists mostly of interventions for chaos distribution.

First, the future agents have to be picked out by scouts who scope out schools, and then if they agree to join it's a two level training program before they can start working. High school aged kids called Firsts have some normal subjects and some ACA-specific ones (chaos theory, distribution techniques, chaosology 101, the benevolence parameter, the cultural and mythological frameworks of chaos...). Then we have Seconds, which are college aged students and here is where specialisations are picked for the six major branches of chaos distribution - verbal, narrative, environmental, digital, pediatric and mass chaos. All have their own subjects and lots of practical work. Lastly there's also Thirds, which are rarer and only pop up when a specific student is a good fit for learning a more niche branch of chaos after graduation and they study it under one mentor until they're ready. And the way all levels are taught is also suitably deranged, and meant to keep everybody on their toes. Think a class full of birds that steal supplies, school bells ringing at different times each day, professors inexplicably coming in and giving a lecture on ancient Egypt and never mentioning it again, the list goes on. It's fun.

There's vague inklings of a plot for this one right now (I think it'll end up being a trilogy) and I have quite a bit of backstory for the ACA and its main faculty. Subjects and other technical bits are also mostly done, as is the way the agents operate in the world and general society. Oddly enough the MCs are still missing (PJ began with the besties and the plot/setting came after, here it's apparently going to be the exact opposite) so I'll focus on that when I get a second to breathe from school. And then it's onto writing, I guess. This one did seem like a thing for a younger audience at first but now it's shaping up to be just a slightly goofier core concept but still with YA/adult themes and characters. As for the dynamics, lots of platonicity can be expected because the target audience is, yet again, myself. Also there's a cat.

And that is where I'd wrap up given that it's almost 2am and I don't want to completely die at uni tomorrow. But yeah thanks so much for the ask, I genuinely love yapping about all this and sorry I made you wait so long!!

like, I guess I wouldn't have minded Rosetta as the tsundere genius that gets shown up and becomes friendly with the MC, but im getting vibes from the creators about her and it makes me uncomfortable. also, i really just don't care about her as a character, i dont really even want to watch that final "episode 52", im just not interested

i honestly was expecting to hate everything about May, but the moment she was shouting her moves (AND BARKING LIKE A DOG??), i knew I couldn't hate her. I liked her growth and her maturing and reaching out to rosetta as fellow rivals to Sora

I love the dynamics that the guy partners brought to the table, because at the end of the day, they really were extras and Sora and Layla really were the stars of the show. 

I really like how Yuri was written as The Partner of the Famed Layla, and was a pretty chill guy until he reveals his plan and becomes the antagonist in the first part. The way he comes back in the second part, only to have another crazy reveal, but then backs down again. Yuri’s character was a rollercoaster but not once was he delegated to any romantic/love interest. Sure there was a couple of scenes of him and Layla “looking like the perfect couple” and something scandalous when he was trying to recruit Sora during Part 1, but he was never actually a romantic interest. (Aside from Ken feeling jealous.) 

Same with Leon, when May was also fighting Sora to be his partner, it was about their pride as performers and never about Getting With the Guy. (There was also that uncomfortable scene with Leon seeing Sophie in Sora but uhhhh) I like that they revealed Leon’s only partner was his sister, so when he sees Sophie in Sora, it doesn’t come off as strangely romantic. I mean, Leon and Sora could be a ship but we all know the girlies stay winning.

Uhhh I have nothing against Ken, he does his job brilliantly, but I wish his crush on Sora wasn’t used a gag too much. I mean once in a while is fine, but I felt like it was a joke too often. I’m glad there wasn’t an actual confession and that he could still see her as a friend and someone he wants to support. 

I dont have huge passionate words towards Layla and Sora, but the girlies are so very important to eac hother. (Me being ABSOLUTLY BETRAYED when Layla said Cathy was her new partner.) NGL I thought they being able to perform the Ultimate Move in the first part felt so rushed, not that it actually was, but I was like, if they do this in the first half, whats going to happen in the second half. Also the way Sora found out Layla could no longer perform, starts crying, Layla tells her to stop crying and she did, that entire scene felt like it was at 2x speed. (That Digimon Dub moment where the kid tells the other kid to “get over it”, and then he does.)

Sora’s had her ups and downs as a character, I feel like she’s “ran away” way too many times (Don’t Lose Your Way Matoi Ryoko who Loses Her Way Twice in the entire series). The few early ones just felt like they were there for dramatics and I really felt like Kalos shouldn’t have given her all those chances. The only one I really liked was after the Circus Festival when she realized what kind of stage she didn’t want to perform in and was given the devastated “Im disappointed in you” by Layla. Anyway, I’m so happy for Sora, but I don’t think we’ve ever actually seen her perform in the iconic Phoenix outfit in the ending previews? (The one with the orange stripes and fluff?) 

Anyway whatever, the art and animation is gorgeous, and so is the music. I’m glad it got the 51 episodes that it did, if it was a Today series, with the first part being 12/13 and maybe New Wings being another 12/13, I probably wouldn’t have been as impressed. Sure they could have cut out a lot of character focused eps (Anna’s father, Marion, Sara and Kalos, etc) or training montages, I don’t think the series would have stuck with me as much.

whats also funny for me is with these younger groups i genuinely dont care what they get up too its more so that theres nothing else i like about music these days. the music i like aint been around for decades and if it is mentioned its usually mainly on tiktok and i hate tiktok so much.

if i could id take a time machine and go to any pre internet era just bc i think it was more lively and music back then was more in person not something you had to travel to see bc there was stuff occuring all over places now its usually in select places at select times and so u have to either physicslly take urself to the groups rather than the otherway around.

literally i wouldve suited even the 50s, there just more natural characters back then imho not that there arent now its mainly that a lot of idol groups esp the mainstream ones seem to have certain attributes they need to debut in the group itself whereas music back then was for anyone of any age of any musical talent could do it they didnt always have to be young. kpop overall seems quite restrictive it seems that even 20 years old is now too old for someone to debut which is quite shameful really. theyre still very imagery or conceptual based i think. i also dont like how on a lot of shows theyre very very scripted, skz are hilarious to watch bc they often break their characters or say something completely out of pocket

And if that was the case no kpop groups would be known in the west because they wouldn’t be performing in the west. They’d just have pop ups all over Korea that may or may not do well because there’s no planning and they’re just “coming to you.” No hate or anything, but that doesn’t really make much sense.

I agree that the KPOP industry is rather controlled, but there are some genuine and funny groups out there. And you seem to forget that it’s their job. Like any job you need to have rules and guidelines to follow to keep yourself from negatively impacting your company, coworkers, etc. like if Jay Park was in a group saying the stuff he said the company AND the group would suffer. They’re also probably not comfortable being 100% how they are behind closed doors in public for every stranger and their mother to see.

I do agree that they should debut older idols, which they do do occasionally, but I also understand why they don’t. They have more time to grow and mold the idols before they move on with their life. Before they marry and start families. The groups can grow together and become closer and not risk breaking up. The idols can become endearing to the public and the public can feel like they’re growing WITH the idols, which makes them stick around. The idols can become used to the industry as you learn better when you’re younger.

But I do agree there’s also a lot of issues with that.

I agree that, again, they should definitely not try and make them paler but that’s also the beauty standard? I’m not saying it’s okay, but it’s like how here in the west a lot of artists try and get tans and other things because that’s the standard over here.

I definitely know a lot of groups that aren’t really all…Bubblegum vibes. But at the same time, again, over there that’s what’s more popular and more socially acceptable. And it is K pop. Korean pop. So things are going to be different. But I do prefer groups that aren’t so bubblegum like you do.

And again, you’re forgetting they’re working. Most people don’t wear casual clothes and look…Imperfect to work. Especially when you’re under close scrutiny and any and everything you do could go viral and affect your career. And most idols DO dress down in lives, albeit they still try to look decent because, again, they ARE working. It’s their job. Their livelihood.

i have nothing to say about the griff one. that's how little i care. it's just boring. great, a coat that looks like any other of his outfits. could have put him into the cool yorha 1.3a commander white outfit or something, but i guess that doesn't fit the theme of being absolutely boring.

i'm always happy to be the one to defend the niche side content stuff the mainstream fanbase doesn't like because "it's not accessible" or "it's a gacha game", but like. dod1's 20th anniversary being pushed over for a shitty collab with a stage play line that isn't even around anymore* is just fucking mean.
