#19th century art was the best art history class ive ever taken #it was so fun and easy to understand.... esp the early movements...#i like it because everything was laid out so plainly from baroque-romanticism #then we get into late 19th century and besides haussmannization ... i dont really care ......#impressionism + neo/post impressionism looks very pretty but im bad at analyzing it #like i can identify the movements when i see a piece but its still hard for meeee #<- guy who does not gaf about landscapes #i love portraits portraits are my bffsies #cubism is like. hard for me to think of as cool. because i hate picasso so much #i like girl with mandolin though i think that is a beautiful piece #and there were very creative ideas and executions!#its just sullied by the fact that i hate everyone involved #<- my old/favorite professor was really really about separating art from the artist #like she did NOT care about what the artists intent was the only thing she cared about was how the audience/herself viewed it #which is an interesting viewpoint that i dont necessarily agree with #mostly because i would hate for people to see my art and just completely ignore what *i* as the artist meant for it #anyway all this to say im about to mega super flop my midterm on wednesday and i want to explode #i dont understand the history behind cubism very well. like i can get that picasso was really into abstracting and flattening #and that it inspired braque #hmmm much to think about #jonesytag

speaking of my best friends :, -, and ,, im an art history/visual culture major and i write these really fucked up 50-100 word sentences in a lot of my assignments and i joke about that often to classmates but earlier today i was reading an article about impressionism for class and i was looking at some of these quarter-page long sentences like damn. maybe im in the right field

#maybe i fit right in #i have a hashtag learning disability so i was using a text to speech software my school gives me to help me read it #and its pretty good but the combination of french impressionism words and the super long sentences.....#it was tripping up a little there hJKFJKDKSFJds #but you know what. im sorry im not very humble about this but im like a pretty good writer in academia at least #my 100 word sentences are perfectly crafted. theyre unstoppable. unrelenting #my professors love my 100 word sentences. they love them. we love carefully constructed 100 word sentences #you know i dont think i talk about my school situation in detail much #im double majoring (is a fool and a buffoon) in both like fine art practice and also art history #very funny being someone who loves visual culture and art history studies being in my art practice classes #full of my peers who have to take a couple mandatory art history classes and fucking HATE It #i understand tho. it can be. dense.#we love our 100 word sentences here

BE NICE #static.soundz #sorry that last post was so directly inspired by seeing someone go can u guys be nice he is on a fucking nutbag schedule. which he is.#i dont think some people understand the insanity of comic production. and how much it takes a toll on you.#many have said and i will say it too: comics is a killing industry. it is a beautiful fun job. it is fulfilling. it will also destroy you.#the most common and easiest to use example is in fact the manga industry. they want chapters in a week. 20 page type chapters in a week.#A WEEK!!! and currently look at things like webtoon as well which also expect the same amount of pages. in a week. an issue in a week #is an insane demand. it is an unreasonable demand. it is scheduling that leads you to a crash and burnout and health issues #because it is fully finished polished pages. as much as i poke and complain about how some things look there #i am also highly aware of production schedules. even if some styles are not my taste that still doesnt mean it isnt insane work #and it's the same in american big industry comics too. it isnt weekly demand the way those are. but it's still an intense schedule #you are working on pages and can get behind years before those comics even hit shelves.#and as it becomes more individualized too as we lose the team element and work becomes more one person doing all pencils and inks #that schedule is a lot. it just is. it doesnt matter if theres more time in comparison to other parts of the industry #the point is that it is all very demanding and exploitative. there is a drive yourself to your grave mentality here and i've had ppl try #to shove that mindset onto my and my peers which is the worst thing possible to encourage. highly alarming and disheartening to encourage #impressionable students already so worried about making it to drive themselves to an early grave. abuse substances to get through work.#work excessive hours while you still can because when you hit your 30s youre gonna lose that ability #become bitter and prepared for rejection as opposed to success because this industry sucks!#it's just such an unhealthy depressing mindset. i've had more artists preach the exact opposite as that and more ppl have been trying to #shift over to valuing your time and health. but still a lot of people are in that other mentality. and it's very very very sad.#i am only a student doing very low stakes homework for classes. i have no industry experience. and i still get it taken out of me #to do fully fledged out pages in my style in one week. this is also just a thing for me bc certain personal factors just make it hard #but still. comics are fun. they are fun. they are fulfilling. they will lead you to so many fucking issues if you are not highly careful #there is a reason why so so so many fucking comic artists have very well known issues. why you hear about so many ppl with substance issues #artists with very poor mental health. when you are in comics this is how it is.#i am glad there has been a big shift in recent years towards taking care of yourself as an artist. and that more ppl try to value it so tha #things can hopefully change at large in a broader sense. but please remember. we are an exploited chew up spit out industry too.

#im in my making-text-posts-no-one-will-regard-about-brian-protheroe era #text post #brian protheroe #you can't keep a good girl down is THAT bouncy showtune. as far as im concerned #the amount of songs he has that he wrote for stage works i find to be fascinating #he said in that interview he did this year that he wrote pinball for a character in a play and then someone showed a demo #of it to some record ppl and that's how he got signed to chrysalis.#i just find that fascinating!#i found everything he said about his time at chrysalis so interesting. those three albums. his love of the art #and working with others but his complete indifference to the business side of things.#the indifference he had when he was like yeah they fired me bc i wasn't all that successful and i didn't make what they wanted to sell me a #like it was just the most nonchalant thing in the world to him!#no but i can see why he sticks to acting then. i really can.#bc pinball came out when he was 30. & he wasn't a huge actor by any means but he'd been a working actor for years #i cant help but think if he had had some commercial break in music when he was like 22 or something #it probably would've been worse for him. like just as a person.#or i mean he would've been more persuadable to conform to other ppl's demands.#(I ASSUME JUST BASED ON THE IMPRESSIONABLE NATURE OF YOUNG PPL it's not a personal assumption of brian)#and it probably would've been harder to walk away from. he had already failed in the music industry once so to speak #in the early 60s when he was a folk musician. but he never got very far to start with.#or rather by 'failed' i mean walked away from bc i cant really say he was 'in the industry' if he simply played music #i wont define that era in his life for him.#but he had been roughing it acting and bouncing around london for several years and was like 'oh ok ill make a few albums'#'oh ok. i wont make any more albums....... here at least (lololol)'#'yeah no thats ok i know some theater ppl. ill just go do some shakespeare if you dont mind'#i literally cannot get over the extent to which he has lived *my* best life. queen #this is the ideal level of artistic success i would ever want to achieve too. i wouldnt want anybody googling me ever >:(#except one weird kid who hears about me from one thing once and idly checks out my other work.#in another universe brian protheroe is the weird kid and i'm the mostly-forgotten mid-hit-wonder from the bbc television shakespeare
