ur post about queerbaiting and the dismissal of people in fandom to critical analysis is so incredibly true thank you. i feel like marcille's writing in the anime has been super misogynistic a lot of the time and every time i bring this up all anyone wants to say is "well maybe this isn't for you! and you shouldn't watch the show!" like. i don't think this is about taste lmao, i am analyzing the text in front of me and coming to conclusions about the craft of it.
[This is in reference to this post]
YES!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
It is so so frustrating!!!!
It's like being at a restaurant and being served a bunch of delicious appetizers, but then one of the bread appetizers is literally just a plate of crumbs; and then when you're like, "Hey, uhh, why are we being served literal crumbs?", a bunch of the other folks eating at the restaurant are like,
"WELL HOW ABOUT YOU JUST DON'T EAT HERE THEN??!? YOU MUST NOT BE THAT HUNGRY, SO JUST FIND ANOTHER RESTAURANT AND DON'T EAT WITH US!!"
And maybe they say it politely, but "Aw, sorry, maybe this restaurant just isn't for you 💖" is just trading out an aggressive dismissive tone for a patronizing dismissive tone. It's the same message.
And it's like! I was honestly happy to move on from the crumbs once my complaint was acknowledged because the meal overall is still delicious, but then all these folks got SUPER WEIRD AND DEFENSIVE ABOUT IT, so now I find myself double-checking all the other dishes -- and, actually, you know what those eggs DO look a Iittle misogynistic undercooked!!!!
#original#queerbaiting#dunmeshi#dungeon meshi#falin x marcille#marcille x falin#marcille donato#delicious in dungeon#dungeon meshi marcille#listen i like marcille but u r right she is basically there to be a wet blanket a LOT of the time and that is a sexist trope#i think the bar is super super low for female characters in adventure anime and the lack of constant ogling maybe makes the female#characters feel better written than they are. i mean falin basically has no personality. she's got an innocent heart but that's nothing.#and i think these conversations are worth having bc no piece of media is perfect and this is how we learn to do better#also like. I've seen media criticisms that make me go 'oh you straight up should reserve commentary bc you#haven't watched the show and you're wrong' or 'i see what you're saying but you are simply incorrect' but like#i don't think I'd tell someone to just NOT watch Hazbin Hotel bc they have a bad take - and certainly not bc they have accurately#pinpointed a real flaw about the show (of which there are more than a few but frankly not what became the biggest subject of Disc Horse)#Angel is actually an amazing character & i think people mistook a criticism on the way abuse is glamourized as actually glamourizing abuse#like his song about abuse is called Poison and he's trapped in an abusive performance contract - bringing to mind Britney Spears#i think it is a wildly triggering and painful scene but i think a lot of people took the pain it gave them to mean it was bad art#but tbh they are still allowed to eat at the table if they so choose!!!#sorry i got sidetracked - as an abuse survivor Angel just matters a lot to me. i have a couple serious criticisms of vivziepop's work but#Angel is very much not one of them#also in regards to the actual subject of this post i think the most audacity of the responses i got was the one that said#that by complaining about queerbaiting I was 'de-incentivizing writers to write any interaction b/t women that could look even a little gay#and I'm just like. good. I hope they stop writing entirely. if the takeaway from 'please don't sell me bread and then serve me crumbs' is#'WELL NOW I JUST WON'T BAKE ANY BREAD PRODUCT' then that person is a bad chef. they should find a different job.#or at least do a whole lot of work on themselves. but either way i wouldn't be too broken up to know i won't be getting any food from them.#'just leave then' is so obviously a gut reaction defense mechanism & it implies media criticism should only be for things you don't like

why did none of my fucking doctors tell me i can instantly relieve otherwise hours-long agony just by drinking a bit of baking soda in water...
WHY THE FUCK ARE ALL MY MEDICATIONS USELESS PREVENTATIVE TRASH WITH A MILLION SIDE EFFECTS WHEN I HAD ACTUAL RELIEF RIGHT HERE IN MY PANTRY THE WHOLE TIME
like i get that if you are experiencing abnormal pain you should get it checked out but IN THE MEANTIME i could have been treating myself, and even once i got seen they didn't give me jack shit for the pain!

"This language of work was by no means the private language of a single-minded maniac who had lived too long under the volcano. To the contrary, Hill’s ideas were on the leading edge of the terrain where biological science and social science intersected. In particular, the concept of the calorie, as a measure of both energy consumed and work done, emerged in connection with the steam-engine-based economics of work in mid-nineteenth century Europe. By the turn of the twentieth century, the calorie had developed into a unit of equivalency between what people ate and how much work they could generate, what they needed to consume and what they were capable of producing—effectively recasting the body as a measurable machine.Whether or not Hill had a formal grasp of the field of expert knowledge cohering around the calorie and its implications for labor management and social policy, he did understand it implicitly, for he paid his employees in food. He used the way of seeing the relation of food and work that gained expression in the science of the calorie in his campaign to reduce the people who worked on his plantations to mechanisms of value production—to make them his."

Unfortunately just discovered a bird slaughtering facility in my neighborhood.
I was on a walk and, as a person who loves birds, was excited to hear bird sounds very close. It sounded vaguely gull-ish, so I looked up, but within a split second realized with horror that three feet in front of me on the sidewalk sat about ten crates cruelly overstuffed with live birds. Turkeys, chickens, and ducks. They couldn't move in the crates.
The turkeys had no room for any position other than laying. The crate squashing them down and together, it was the turkeys I heard, as they reacted to someone approaching. Black eyes of young turkeys, wondering what was next for them. Think of them, please, when you see their carcasses labeled with kind words in a grocery store this Thanksgiving season. Nothing kind happens to them. At no point in their life do they get to have quality time with any friends or family. It's the cruelest marketing there is.
Their crate was stacked atop two more crates stuffed with chickens. As small as the chickens were in comparison to the turkeys, there were so many packed in together that they could not turn around, and the crate was so shallow that their leg joint could only reach a maximum angle of 30 degrees. They were restless, and they were the majority. The other three stacks of crates were almost all chickens, the one exception being a crate of ducks.
The ducks were the liveliest. They seemed angriest, their crate second from the top of the stack, sandwiched between two crates of chickens. The ducks' long necks were forced into a dipped position. They communicated and tried their best to find egress. They don't want to be here, and they have never had a say in what happens to them. They want water and grass and there's only plastic and concrete and their own excrement.
A chicken in a crate in the middle of the stack relieves themselves, the excrement splashing forcefully onto the chickens in crates beside and below.
None of these birds can move. They have no options. There is no room, they are in literal cages. I don't know when they were delivered to the door of the slaughterhouse, and I don't know how much longer they will have to suffer there, smashed and aching and covered in shit. Impossibly confused about their situation.
I honestly hope, for their sakes, that they're dead by now. For their sakes and for my own peace, I hope they're dead, and I hope you think about them.

Liv what did you struggle most with when you went vegan? I’m trying to cut out meat but I’m having a bad time 😭
ohhhh good question! i think i had an easier time than most ppl because i had a lot of aversions to meat and eggs unless they were prepared in v specific ways, and i don't like cheese and was pretty sure dairy was making me break out so i was already drinking non-dairy milk at home.
all of which is to say it wasn't a huge struggle for me to just make the few changes to transition to plant based!! i think the hardest part was avoiding the animals products hiding IN other things. ;ike pastries with butter! or eggs in cake! or modified milk ingredients in LITERALLY EVERYTHING. those little things were what gave me the hardest time, but now i just know what I can and can't have and don't really think about it very much—i promise it gets easier!!

People will cry and moan about not using plastic water bottles or eating certain food because of 'the microplastics!' and 'genetically modified foods!' but then not give a single fuck about being sustainable or the climate At All. 😐
#just came to this realisation rn lmao#like ive been moaned at so much about my water bottle that ive had for years now (because until this thing literally falls apart i am not#throwing it away lmao) and when i eat fish or 'highly processed' foods or drink water from the tap BLAH BLAH BLAH#and i just realised a lot of these issues could be mitigated by... proper regulations in terms of dumping oil and rubbish and the Huge#pollution fucking issue we have and climate change???#and these are the same people who throw out anything as soon as its even Slightly tainted. over buy products that they dont need. only#purchase from fast fashion brands etc etc i could literally go on#anyways uts just astounding the hypocrisy of people and the way they only care about certain things at the surface level#and when i try to mention how capitalism is the reasin for a lot of these issues they are for some reason. shoved up capitalisms ass and#genuinely believe it is a good thinh#im going mental!!!!!!!#le text post#oh btw i feel like its not clear in the actual post but when i say plastic water bottle i am not meaning like bottled water like evian or#whatever. i am meaning like i have a heavy duty water bottle literally Meant to be reused that is also made of plastic. bpa free blah blah#the people that i am talking about give me grief for using this bottle but go out of their way to only drink 'filtered' aka bottled water#so that just adds on to my fucking point#anyways im gonna stop i could literally go on about this

this is adjacent to the food ask that the other anon sent- do any of your characters have food-related issues? you mentioned Danny's lactose intolerance, but are there some foods that the cast just can't have or else their stomach will Fucking Riot?
i can't really think of anything that i didn't mention! i figure it would be weird to randomly say caroline has IBS or elaine has celiac's disease when we haven't seen that at all fjksdjsj sorry this is a boring answer!! i think elaine does have a sensitive stomach though, she eats like a bird. idk if this counts, but casper doesn't drink caffeine or smoke weed because they both make him super anxious and nauseous, rip (alcohol does too but he drinks anyway because college). ummm austin always gives up sugar for lent so it makes him sick when he eats it again? mikaela hates fake sugar sweeteners because they give her a headache (REAL!!! aspartame gives me and my dad the worst migraines ever)
you know what i'm making this up on the spot but sadie strikes me as a kid with a peanut allergy

Why did my cat have to be allergic to the most common ingredient in all cat food (chicken) and why did it also have to be his most favorite thing in the world
He doesn't understand that not giving him his favorite numnum is for his own good, and he also doesn't understand that when he manages to steal some of his brother's food (who REFUSES to change food to something they can both eat to avoid this goddamn issue because fuck me) and he gets itchy and has catbox issues that it's a direct correlation to eating his favorite numnum (chicken) (which he is allergic to)

Okay so pickled herring is a thing in Finland and I really like it. It comes in jars and in different sort of situations, like in seasoned plain brine, in mustard brine, etc.
Now obvs. I don't eat pickled herring anymore because vegan, and it's a bit of a bummer because like, this is part of my culture, food is a big part of culture and, by extension, identity.
Today I had vegan pickled herring-like stuff that is made out of eggplant. Like if you like mustard herring you would like this, it's just a super-good fishy and mustardy combination. And I was just so happy and will be buying this stuff in the future.
So if you ever see anyone asking "why do vegans have to make vegan versions of nonvegan things" this is the reason. Food is a crucial part of culture and everyone should have ways to connect with their food culture regardless of what sort of dietary restrictions they have, voluntary or involuntary.
Food innovations that enable people with food restrictions to take part are good and worthwhile.
And hey, if you are in Finland and you like sinappisilli, try the Kalavale eggplant product. It's good and adds some extra vegetable in your diet :)
