This is everything I read in the Sherlock Holmes fandom last year that made it into my bookmarks. So while I may not have read enough to make a selected "best of" list, consider these the ones that made it past all my internal selection criteria and are deserving of a spotlight. A few of these were completed prior to 2023.

A Case of You by Silvergirl (17K, M, Johnlock, Sherlock/OMC) Sherlock is marrying an American, and at the rehearsal dinner, best man John makes a drunken love confession he doesn’t remember the next day. Badly hungover, John can't find anyone to tell him what the hell happened to the wedding, where the grooms are, or how he can put it right so that Sherlock can be happy. But what if he's dead wrong about what will make Sherlock happy?

A Midnight Clear by khorazir (16K, T, Johnlock) It’s Christmas Eve, and Sherlock is working. Because that’s what he does. He doesn’t need Christmas, or holiday cheer, or even company. He’s fine on his own, thank you very much – until a series of strange encounters on his way back to Baker Street makes him reconsider.

So he does what any emotionally-constipated British man does: he joins a Mixed Martial Arts gym. As John throws himself into the sport and joins in on underground no-holds-barred brawls, situations arise that just might force John to face what is really going on underneath all the rage.

Indefinite Lines by ArwaMachine (298K, E, Johnlock) When two lines, inclined towards each other, are extended indefinitely, it is inevitable that they meet. Upon meeting, the lines become something new. Together. Perhaps it’s been like that from the beginning for Sherlock and John—their lives weaving together, inclined towards one another, moving closer and closer to something greater than themselves.

Live from the Morgue by disfictional (8K, E, Johnlock) Molly interviews Sherlock on her podcast, Live from the Morgue. John listens.

Lost In A Good Book by khorazir (68K, M, Johnlock) After chasing a criminal into a poky second-hand bookshop, John and Sherlock find themselves not only stuck in the building, but in L-space itself. With things still raw and unsettled between them after the events surrounding the Culverton Smith case, this adds another dimension to their predicament, which not only consists of finding a way out of the shop (while avoiding getting murdered by the criminal), but also to finally address the issues between them.

Nightjet by khorazir (22K, M, Johnlock) Officially deceased for eighteen months and still looking for the last remainders of Moriarty’s criminal empire, an exhausted Sherlock boards a night train in Germany to bring him to his next hunting ground. Due to a mishap with the sleeper cars, he is forced to share a compartment with a stranger – who turns out to be not quite as strange as Sherlock thought. The universe isn’t lazy, after all …

The case turns out to be far more complex and dangerous than they first thought, and Holmes sends Watson to secure Lestrade’s help in bringing a criminal gang to justice. The Sherlock fandom has pretty much ruined most of the show for me, including most of the ships I used to love reading about. Johnlock in particular has been decimated for me, which is tragic because Ben and Martin are phenomenal actors and their height difference is *chef’s kiss* excellent.

Excluding Johnary (alt. Warstan), Mystrade is the top tier couple and I love them very much. Specifically, pre-series established Greg and Mycroft who playfully meddle with Sherlock and his new friend.

I’m not denouncing the entire Sherlock fandom, I’ve made friends over the years through it, and me and my sister bonded a lot over it, but it just kinda makes me feel sad thinking about now.

it feels like if AGRA was empty of full, it wouldn’t be right for john neither way: if it was full, it would the the great betrayal and also the “she wasn’t supposed to be like that”, the wife who lied immensely to her husband and(for god sakes) shot his bf. If it was empty it wouldn’t work either because it was boring and the same life john was trying to scape because it was making him unhappy...conclusion : Mary does not work for john in every way 

Ooh, a chance to talk about Mary generally! I’ve apparently got just enough codeine still in my system, and it’s close enough to the witching hour, that this seems like a fun topic rather than the don’t-poke-the-bear dread that usually falls on me when I speak her name in this fandom. Here’s hoping I don’t regret this come tomorrow.

Even in Doyle canon, I never particularly liked Mary’s story, which is meant as a judgment on Doyle and not some fictional woman. She’s clearly introduced because Watson --being a romantic-- needs a romantic partner, and for a whole host of historical reasons Doyle felt like it needed to be a woman. Any woman would do, apparently. And even without getting into issues of whether this is akin to queerbaiting, it also just makes for a very boring character IMO. Mary is the equivalent of a Bond girl : more saintly than sex-appeal, perhaps, but who only really exists as an object the male characters get to react against. There’s precious little of Mary specifically that makes any difference to SIGN.

I do like some of the grace notes Doyle gives her in later stories. I think there’s a reference in one of the stories that she had a reputation for being both kind and clever and women from her neighborhood came to her to help them solve their little problems, a sort of more everyday vision of Sherlock Holmes. But at least in SIGN she’s a walking trope and frustratingly little more. 

I think the Granada series was wise to leave her out almost entirely. (She only appears in the movie version of SIGN, and there is only a client.) She just would have been a distraction to the story they were trying to tell. In the RDJ/Jude Law movies she’s actually brilliantly done, somehow challenging and supporting their relationship at the same time. She’s also witty and daring and would not seem at all out of place in a Jane Austen novel with all that witty back-and-foth, and all three of them have this great chemistry. If ever there was an adaptation that screamed both Johnlock and Johnlockary (and of course Warstan), it’s this one.

Goodness, we need more fanfic about Kelly Reilly’s Mary. I need to write her again. She’s brilliant.

Which brings us to the BBC. I’m going to be very brave and say my biggest problem with her isn’t that she wedged herself into John’s and Sherlock’s relationship and somehow came away with the right to dictate its terms, even posthumously. It’s not even that she lied to her husband and manipulated him, endangering him and their child in the process; or that she shot Sherlock, or was an assassin who apparently went mercenary. All of that could be really interesting if done well! And really, I can think of storylines that would actually justify quite a lot of that. Even shooting, even killing Sherlock, even not being apologetic about it after the fact- I could write a story where that character made sense as a romantic opposite to John. I actually got about 10,000 words into one attempt, though I never finished or published it because the fandom was pretty toxic to anyone interested in a more shades-of-grey ersion of Mary at the time.

No, what really drives me up the wall with BBC’s version of Mary is they don’t really settle on any one version of her. Actually in each of the five episodes she appears in, there’s this radically different version of who she are and what motivates her: supportive friend; bride; sociopath assassin; government agent; martyr. The most sympathetic take on that I can give is that Sherlock himself is trying to figure her out and can’t make sense of her so keeps trying one mold after another. But whatever the intent, the effect is that Mary’s just ridiculously muddled for me, and I never really connected to her because I didn’t understand her. I’m not sure the show-runners did either. Seeing what Moffat in particular did with women characters in Doctor Who makes me think he genuinely struggles to find them interesting if they aren’t really... extra, for lack of a better word. John and Sherlock, being men, had their BAMF moments but also a psychology that actually made sense along somewhat normal terms; Mary had to be a super-sekrit assassin, and a rogue that was targeted by a media mogul, and the hero who saved Holmes and then did it again from beyond the grave. All of which would have been fine if it actually came from a coherent characterization. But BBC’s Mary was all BAMF and stunning reveals and little to no coherence that made that make sense, so her character never really developed any kind of a reality for me. My brain couldn’t make sense of her, so my heart never latched on either. In the end I was just left confused and frustrated

Even all these years later! I still don’t know what to make of her, and that’s just bad writing. I would love to have a Mary who lied from start to finish with John “Trust Issues” Watson, or who shot Sherlock to the chest where it somehow made sense. That could be fascinating. It’s not what we got, though; at least it���s not what I was able to get out of the show.

Here’s another thing that would be fascinating, and I’d really love to see in some adaptation; even this one, though I don’t think we’ll get it. Mary Morstan in 1895 makes some sort of sense even with a suspiciously close friendship between Holmes and Watson, because male friendships operated in a very different realm than heterosexual marriages did. There were different kinds of intimacies in that time, I think. But when you bring the characters into the modern world, it eems like a super-close friendship like Holmes and Watson seem to have, one that seem to emotionally resemble marriage even if there’s no physical/sexual component, would be a challenge to what any self-respecting modern woman would tolerate from her husband. I don’t mean because it makes John gay, and of course married people can have friends, but there’s something about John and Sherlock that in the modern world strays damned close to emotional infidelity. 

I mean, how can you have that without either weakening the relationship between John and Sherlock, or making Mary cuckolded in some sense? Now throw into the mix in this particular adaptation, even before Mary, John and Sherlock had a ... unique relationship. John would date and have sex (or not), Sherlock would be stuck in seemingly perpetual celibacy, but if Sherlock dared to date (and I think this would be true for a man as well as a woman) John goes into a disbelieving jealous rage. This strikes me as not normal male friendship, though it’s not romantic or sexual either. It’s queerplatonic af on Sherlock’s side, increasingly stretching the bounds of what can be called “platonic”, and for John, it’s kind of a monodirectional monogamy in at least an emotional sense. I mean, the man went and got married, but we all saw his reaction when Sherlock dared to (seemingly) date someone else.

Now throw a modern woman into that mix, trying to marry and start a family with one half of a duo in that truly fucked-up dynamic. Imagine what it would be like for her to exist in that world. You can imagine polyamory of some variety, or jealousy, or a very altered view from what the mainstream imagnes are the expectations of married life, or whatever spin you like to put on it. 

I guarantee you -- if done well -- it would be fascinating. And I’d very much like to see it. Or read it, or something. If you want to make that woman as much of a danger junkie as John, as much of a skilled, professional killer, wehther on the government’s payroll or a disillusioned former agent who refused to follow orders and was forced to “branch out” or even just a true psychopath who was utterly self-motivated and ruthless but still wanted to protect John or at least what John represented to her? 

Well, that could be fascinating, too. Even more so. There’s just one catch: you’ve got to actually tell the story. They never seemed to get around to that, and I think I’m still more than a bit bitter.

i was rewatching TST again and i had whiplash when i reviewed that ep because holy shit, they were really just ESTABLISHING john’s domestic, happy familial life and then that Very Same Episode, they fucking KILLED mary. AND it was the first episode of a fuckin series.

It’s been almost a year since my last batch of underrated fics, so I’ve got a good crop to share this time. Criteria:

1. I can’t imagine why this hasn’t been picked up by the masses yet. Just look at that summary and tell me it isn’t what you want to read right now!

A Scandal at Paladia by disfictional (34K, E, Johnlock) An ill-fated visit to Uncle Rudy's drag bar unlocks a memory of John's past- a memory that wreaks havoc on their sex life. John has a secret, and Sherlock is determined to solve the case.

2. Yes, there is major character death but also time travel, soulmates, and devastatingly hot sex:

Come Back to Me by BenAddictViolaBatch (21K, E, Johnlock) A fusion of Sherlock and the classic 1980 film, "Somewhere in Time." In 1945, young army doctor John Watson receives a brief and mysterious visit from an elderly scientist, Sherlock Holmes. Intrigued, John researches Holmes and learns that he died on the same night of the visit. He becomes fascinated by Holmes's renowned work in criminology and his secret obsession with time travel. When he encounters a photograph of a young Holmes, he is instantly and deeply enamored, realizing that they are destined for each other.

3. An intriguing series 4 fixit casefic that delivers on the emotions:

The Slow Dance and Death of a Carbon Copy by batslikepastel (15K, T, Johnlock, Warstan) He hasn’t talked to Sherlock outside the bedroom since that first night.  Today, though, when Sherlock painstakingly makes John’s favourite breakfast- eggs benedict- he smiles delightedly and kisses his cheek.  “Thanks, Mary.” The first sign of delusion.

4. For those who want to see what Sherlock got up to during his time away, you can’t get more intense than this:

Serbia by BeautifulFiction (13K, T, Gen with Johnlock undertones) He could not return to John knowing this mess remained unfinished. He could not return to London and expect forgiveness if the ruse had no reason.

5. Deeply thought-provoking philosophy couples with exquisite narrative tension in this soulmate-esque apocalypse AU:

Learning the Heart by Calais_Reno (11K, T, Johnlock) An android tries to understand love and grief.

6. An exciting, snarky zombiefic with simmering Johnlock feels:

Haemophilia by kaasknot (10K, T, Johnlock) It started at Baskerville. A leaky pipe, a faulty experiment left to seed by an absent scientist; in the end, it didn't matter. What mattered was that an epidemic spilled through the medical halls of Baskerville, and no one knew the cause—or how to treat it.

7. This fic might look hardcore, but it’s really fascinating with a gentle, calming vibe. Not exactly Johnlock (yet), but the spark is definitely there:

Fit to Be Tied by Kameo (10K, M, Johnlock) Sherlock Holmes is ever on the lookout for new experiences, and for the first time he is exploring BDSM play at a tasting being held at a local dungeon. He has no idea what to expect but it certainly wasn't a rope-tying army doctor.

8. A tidy casefic/series 4 fixit with preslash setup for more:

The Adventure of the Solicitor’s Mansion by aTangledSkein (9.8K, Johnlock, M) Set post Season 4, this is an update to ACD's "The Adventure of the Abbey Grange."  John is questioning his relationship with Sherlock and wrestling with his own demons.

I don’t see a lot of that content in general so you can totally disregard my input if you would like but I feel like since Johnlock covers all Sherlock adaptions(barring Elementary), shouldn’t Warstan?  I don’t know.  I’m really not picky in my fandoming so take it with a grain of salt.

On the subject of fan art requests :)

Hello!

Since I’ve realised I have accumulated quite a few art requests, I thought it would be wise to address one or two things about the matter.  Some general guidelines that will help you out, should you wish to send me an art request. For the sake of clarity, this will be written in a FAQs format. (let’s pretend! :D)

1) Are you taking art requests at the moment?

Yes, I am, but keep in mind that I have a rather long list of them! So if you want to request me something that’s more than fine by me but you will need a little patience to actually see it completed!

2) Is there any particular order of priority in your requests list?

Generally I try to respect the chronological order in which they were sent to me BUT it’s not always the case. Sometimes I choose to work on some of the newer requests, without having completed the older ones. This may depend on several different factors, such as moods, inspiration, ideas, time required, difficulty level, other non-requests projects I’m working on, etc.. I’m sorry if this may seem a little unfair to you but please, consider that I’m doing this because I love it. I do not wish to turn it into something I will feel obligated to do. I still want to enjoy every second of it! So please, do no take it personally if you have requested me something and I still haven’t done it. If I accepted your request, be sure that it will eventually get done. I promise! 

3) Are there any restrictions about fandoms, ships and themes?

Yes. For the moment I take only Sherlock-related requests but in the future who knows :) As for the themes, you can ask me pretty much everything, AUs included! I will not draw anything gore or really graphic though. Concerning the ships.. Now, it’s no secret that my ship is Johnlock, however I’m willing to give other ships a go, with the few exceptions of Sherlolly, Adlock and Warstan. I am sorry, I am not hating on anyone’s ship here. I simply can’t bring myself to draw them. Anyhow, If in doubt just ask me and we can discuss it together. :)

4) How specific should my request be?

It’s up to you, really! You can be thorough as you want with your request. It can be very detailed or just a general idea. As you can probably tell, I like to create mini stories, using your more generic requests as prompts. I take a lot of liberties! ;) However, if your request is quite specific, I will try to stay close to it as possible!

5) Do you always draw comics or also one-page drawings?

Most of the time I draw comics but I can also decide to draw one-page pieces. If it’s not specified in your request, I choose the artwork’s lenght as I feel like it.

6) Can I get a notification when you post a new artwork?

I have a tagging list of people who wish to be notified. Just let me know and I’ll add you!

Lastly, I reserve the right to refuse any request that for some reason makes me uncomfortable or unhappy. Rest assured you will be provided with a brief explanation as to why I cannot take your request. I won’t ever just say “No” to you! But in any case, if you have any doubt about what you may or may not ask me, just let me know. We can discuss your request together and mould it to accomodate each other’s needs and wishes. :)

🔥 about tjlc and the tinfoil hat conspiracists

This is a tough one. I'm guessing my opinion (why are they doing this to themselves?) is actually a popular one. So, an unpopular opinion about these people, hmm.

Have you seen Rowan Atkinson's sketch about Toby the Devil? He welcomes souls to hell and divides them into groups: murderers, thieves, French and lastly, Christians. 'Christians? Ah yes, I’m sorry, I’m afraid the Jews were right.' Apart from being hilarious, it makes me wonder: what if we, the non-johnlockers, are wrong and they are right? What if everything I think I know about Sherlock is wrong because I'm a straight, adult woman and judging from the post-TFP dramatic posts, the majority of the cult consists of gay youth. What if BBC Sherlock really is a romantic story and I saw none of that because I'm biased?

What if they were rightfully angry after series 4? I mean, from what I heard, they predicted TAB's content pretty well. Maybe they aren't as delusional as we think. Maybe they were, in fact, portrayed on the show not only as the First TJCLer Hudders but also as the league of furies. Maybe today's gay youth needs more recognition than suffragettes. I don't know.

What if Mofftiss did betray them? What if they intentionally made Sherlock gay and John bi to attract the attention of gay fans? What if they wanted to give them the kiss, but the BBC didn't let them?What if Mark Gatiss, who seems like a lovely person, is actually the evil incarnate and a homophobic, cruel gay who likes to torment people like him? How can I tell? I don't know him. What if Mofftiss are lying liars who lie about lying about lying about lying and they really are playing a long game here. Maybe they intentionally made series 4 not gay and hurt the fans only to make the kiss in series 5 sweeter? Who can tell?

Did Gatiss honestly tell gay fans via Mary that it doesn't matter who they really are? Would he do that? Will he and Moffat butcher Dracula and make him not explicitly gay?

What if I, a Sheriarty shipper, completely misinterpreted the Moriarty episodes? What if Sherlock is, in fact, scared of Moriarty and there's no chemistry? Perhaps Sherlock wanted to catch Moriarty to save John and be gay with him? Could the Sheriarty content be just a cynical milkshake to lure the hungry Fannibals to the yard? What if the Sheriarty scene from TAB was not sentimentally and sexually charged? What if Moriarty's motivation was 'if I can't have you, then no one can'? WHAT IF SHERLOCK JUST HAD A GUN IN HIS POCKET AND WASN’T PLEASED TO SEE HIM?

What if Adlock isn't canon? Is Irene's theme really a johnlock theme? The person who deflowered Sherlock, Irene or John? Were Irene's pupils dilated because she was scared? Did she say 'Well I am [gay], look at us both' to prove there was no Adlock, not because saying 'Well I am bisexual' would make no sense? Were all the reminders of Irene meaningless? Do I ship it bc I'm straight? Was I.... straight-baited?

Was it a coincidence that Sherlock said 'I'm you' to Jim and played Irene's theme when asked to play himself? Was the Adlock/Sheriarty mash-up (TAB) unimportant? Is Sherlock actually attracted only to his exact opposite, John boring dull predictable Watson?

What if that Arwel guy is not a funny person who likes elephants and things that glow? What if he taunted the cult with gay elephants all those years? I'm actually surprised to have heard of the Eurus' glass elephant just recently and not from a cult member. Huh. Is the glowing skull a secret sign? What if the billboards from HLV were not a coincidence?

And what if all the small inconsistencies like the disappearing John from the T6T scene with Hopkins are, in fact, important? Look, as a Holmescest shipper, I watched the Unwise, brother mine scene many, many times. Two inconsistencies there. 

What if the First TJLCer and John are actually likeable characters? Is John's abusive behaviour excusable bc of sexual frustration and being closeted? Was his awful comment about Mycroft (what goes around comes around) justified? We may never know.

Is johnlock actually a sweet, lovely, vanilla ship, romantic and pure? Despite all the women deceived and used to stop the gossip? It bothers me, actually. Maybe it's because I think that honesty in any relationship is crucial. Did Sherlock and John really flirt with each other in Mary's or Irene's presence? Did John make a decision to marry Mary just to prove he's straight, although he could have just ditch the bitch and make out with his loved-up booooooooooyfriend? Is it ok for a bi-curious person to lie to their straight partner and use them a shield? Should I root for a gay couple who try to get together on the fucking WEDDING RECEPTION in front of the clueless bride? Is this good? Do I find it disgusting and inexcusable bc I'm not gay? Maybe it is a gay fantasy, the opposite of the hetero wish to turn a gay person straight?  Mystery.

Is this theory that the true villain of BBC Sherlock is anyone who thinks Sherlock is not gay right? Do I erase an important part of his personality bc I don't want Sherlock the fictional character to be happy the way he should have been from the start? Was ACD inspired by Oscar Wilde and the original Sherlock Holmes was in as gay as Wilde? Did Watson invent Mary Morstan to be safely gay with Holmes?

Is the unaired pilot gay and I can't see it bc I am not? Did Sherlock say that he knew being gay is fine not because John said his 'which is fine' the way I say 'I do like the Germans and I’m not scared of the German nationalism and do not resent them for using the most hideous language in the world, no sir'? Did Sherlock never correct the people who assumed he was John's boyfriend not because he simply didn't care what they thought about him?

What if Mary killed herself to make Sherlock commit suicide? What if Sherlock hated her the whole time and only pretended he liked her, so very convincingly? Did he and John conspire to murder her while she was heavily pregnant and sipped tea in John's chair? Was she the real Moriarty? Did she work for CAM? For Mycroft? Did the homicidal Sherlock and John try to protect her from Ajay because... they wanted to kill her themselves?

Was the Warstan reunion in HLV not sweet and realistic but sinister? Did John threaten her while she was pregnant with his child?

Is the *sigh* M theory true? Moriarty, Mary and Magnussen using Mycroft to destroy johnlock? Because nothing else that universe is more important than these two Brits licking Marmite off the other's prick.

What if our perception of the acronym cult is wrong? Maybe it's not just toxic. Maybe it helps its members embrace their sexuality. Maybe they were just trying to defend themselves? Maybe the only member who needed therapy was one of the leaders? Was it ok for another leader, the one who's still active, to respond to my message by going through my blog and judging the content? Despite my having mentioned twice in the message that I was just curious and had no evil intentions. I'm no expert.

Is the concept of a slow-burn romance (with a huge portion of miscommunication) between John and Sherlock possible? Wouldn't Sherlock just say: 'John, we should kiss, for science!' or John, when Sherlock returned, 'I have missed you so much. Don't ever leave again. Also, I love you, I can say this now.'

Did the suggestion to name the baby Sherlock actually meant 'I wish we have got married, I'd love to be your Sherlock Watson'? Did John the free widower say 'the chance doesn't last forever' and put so much emphasis on the word 'alive' because... I dunno, really.

Does John's 'I am not gay/not Sherlock's boyfriend' mean: 'I'm bisexual and would love to show Sherlock some military discipline'? Wouldn’t bi-John feel comfortable with Hudders, enough to tell her his secret?

Was John's reaction to Mary's death really less emotional than his reaction to Sherlock's suicide?

Was John's WTF when Janine strode out of Sherlock's bedroom jealousy and not the strong feeling that Sherlock either changed overnight or was doing some serious bullshitting?

Is Sherlock’s reaction to Janine and that other female character flirting with him a definite proof that he does not want to offer his virginity to a woman? Even... The Woman?

Was the idea of Warstan bad enough to make Sherlock suicidal on FIVE separate occasions? I counted: the sad, suicidal chips in TEH, the conversation with Sholto through the door, the post-wedding relapse that was NOT for a case, the TAB overdose and the TLD relapse. Dude. Sherlock, son, maybe find a hobby.

Did Mofftiss lose their minds and made not one but TWO 'all in your head' series? Is John dying? Is Sherlock in a coma? Was Eurus real? Is Redbeard a dog? Do I care?

Are Adlock and Smallcroft shippers delusional bc both Holmes brothers are so obviously gay? Is it all right to say that a character's sexual orientation cannot be different from the actor's (but only if the actor is gay)? Does Gatiss have a right to play or create non-gay characters?  Is he morally obliged to make every Sherlock character gay? Does he owe anything to the gay community?

What if having your otp work together and raise a kid together is not enough?

WAS THE LAZARUS REAL? I do agree with finalproblem on this particular subject, 100%.

Is Jim Moriarty alive? Is Mary alive? Is Rosie real?

If I happen to see things differently from anyone reading this, please don’t take it as a personal affront. I respect your right to view things differently than me, and concede that in certain instances maybe you perceive something I don’t, so I’m not trying to say my view is more valid than anyone else’s. It’s just mine, that’s all.

1) What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

In the ‘Sherlock’ fandom I just don’t get John and Sherlock in any OTP other than Johnlock! I’m sorry, I just don’t.

I’m not a fan of so-called 'dark’ pairings where the hero or 'good’ character is paired with the villain (for example, the Doctor and the Master in the 'Doctor Who’ fandom) so I don’t ship Sheriarty in the slightest.

As for Sherlolly, I’m sorry, but to me there’s just no basis for it. Yes, I believe Sherlock does come to care for Molly, but it’s not a romantic love in my eyes. She’s more like a little sister to him.

As for Warstan (John Watson and Mary Morstan), well, they were doomed the moment Sherlock reappeared. John was just still so hurt and angry at first, and then later just didn’t have the guts and probably felt too guilty, to admit it and call it off. The only reason he went back to her after she shot Sherlock was because of the baby.

Then there’s Mystrade. I have nothing against it, but I can’t say I really get it either. I understand the power of imagination, etc, but I generally ship based on chemistry, connection, interaction, etc, and Greg and Mycroft barely have any screen time together at all, and I never felt any particular spark those times that they did. But it’s not a NoTP or anything. It’s just, whatever. If I were to ship Greg with someone, it would be Molly, because there was a definite attraction there on his side.

In the 'Criminal Minds’ fandom there are fans who ship Spencer Reid and Derek Morgan, and some who ship Reid and Aaron 'Hotch’ Hotchner, and while I don’t NoTP either ship, I don’t really get them either. To me they’re BroTP, but I can respect that others maybe see something there that I don’t.

The next pairing I’m going to mention I feel a bit hypocritical about because I know under different circumstances I’d probably ship it, but I’m going to say Darvey (Harvey and Donna) in the 'Suits’ fandom.

The reasons I don’t ship them are, 1) Harvey’s chemistry with Mike and his whole attitude towards him (I’m sorry, but Harvey loves Mike as more than just a brother!), and 2) Maybe it’s because Gabriel and Sarah have been such good friends for such a long time in real life, but I just don’t feel the vibe between Harvey and Donna. I know they slept together that one time (over a decade ago!), but I honestly don’t feel any heat between them at all. I know Donna has confessed her love, but all I get from them is a siblings vibe.

4) Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?

I think question one kind of covered the OTP part of this (in 'Sherlock’ it’s pretty much any ship that pairs John and Sherlock with anyone other than each other. Kind of the same with Mike and Harvey in 'Suits’). As for popularity, while I know there are other ships such as Sheriarty, Sherlolly, Sheradler, Warstan, etc, in the 'Sherlock’ fandom, I think I’m fairly safe in saying HMS Johnlock is the biggest ship in that particular armada. As for Darvey in the 'Suits’ fandom , yeah, it’s pretty popular, I guess. I would surmise that it and Marvey are the two most popular ships on the show (although a quick look at AO3 has just shown me that there are almost ten times as many Marvey fics on the site as there are Darvey ones, but of course more casual viewers don’t tend to write fanfic, and many of them also ship Darvey. NOT that I’m calling all Darvey shippers casual viewers, before anyone gets offended!)

7) Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

Again, nothing immediately springs to mind. There are things that have disappointed me, such as the way they threw away the potential of 'Sleepy Hollow’ or how the entire build up to making Tiva (Tony and Ziva) canon in 'NCIS’ was for all for nothing when the actress who played Ziva decided to leave the show. But to say I can’t stand them now would be putting it too strongly.

22) Popular character you hate?

Hoo boy. Strap yourself in because here I go. Sorry, Donna fans in the 'Suits’ fandom, but I detest her more and more with every passing episode! I mean, what does she even do?? Besides tell Harvey how he’s feeling and swanning around magically knowing everything and seemingly riding to the rescue with information she’s gleaned from someone in her mystical network of secretaries and personal assistants, except, oops, she’s been played (again) and the information isn’t correct after all!

Let’s be honest, they haven’t known what to do with her character for at least the last two seasons now.

And then they had to drag poor Benjamin into it! That whole storyline with 'The Donna’ device bored me to tears. The only person less interested in it than me was Harvey. And don’t even get me started on the whole, “I’m black in here” comment!

Like, who thought that was a good idea?! It was, at best, cringeworthy, and, at worst, offensive. Just, no.

23) Unpopular character you love?

Ooh, good one! In the 'Sherlock’ fandom I would say Mary had the potential to become not so much a character I loved, but one that I loved to hate, if they’d only made her the true villain many of us felt she could be.

In 'Suits’, I don’t know how unpopular he was, and to say I loved him would be overstating it, but I rather enjoyed some of Edward Darby’s moments, especially the little exchanges with Mike about 'Downton Abbey’ and etiquette, etc.

Like many fans, I also wasn’t that keen on Sean Cahill during his first stint on the show. He was only doing his job, but he was threatening to take down our boys! But I think he won most of us over in season six, thanks to Neal McDonough’s acting and what I like to call Cahill’s mutual respectathon with Harvey. I enjoyed how they played off each other and would love to see Cahill come work at the firm.

Also, I know it doesn’t really count because I hate the character of Cameron Dennis, but I love Gary Cole, the actor who plays him, so I could maybe stand some more of him on the show. Maybe minus the 'tache, though.
