Is there, like, an emotional support Pokémon that can also battle well? My friend is very passionate about battling but is also really emotional and can't handle being disliked and/or excluded. They asked me to ask you since they don't have a Tumblr account.

Yes, ESP’s can battle! People often mix up service pokemon vs emotional support pokemon, so let me try and explain the differences (keeping in mind i’m talking about Unova regulations)

Service pokemon are pokemon trained to do a specific task or tasks to aid someone with a disability. They are allowed access to all public spaces, even if said public space does not normally allow pokemon. This is a right that all disabled people with a service pokemon have. Service pokemon do not battle (unless absolutely necessary) & thus do not count toward any league-regulated six pokemon team. They are doing an essential job and are considered medical equipment, if that makes sense.

Emotional support pokemon are pets that provide general comfort & increased quality of life to their owners and are registered as such by a licensed therapist or doctor. Anyone can have an ESP if they need it, but people with mental illnesses, neurodivergencies, or who otherwise benefit from an extra support system are most likely to have one. They do not provide specific tasks to aid someone with a disability, and do not get special access privileges. They can, however, participate in official battling!

ESP registration allows for owners to more easily take their ESPs on flights, to other regions, and to housing that might not otherwise allow pokemon or that specific species (or just, requires a lot of paperwork / extra hoops that is mostly bypassed by registration). Any ‘mon that provides comfort to your friend’s anxiety can be an emotional support pokemon.

I’d recommend an empathetic species like Gardevoir :] hope that helps!

Because nobody demanded it, I bring you Incorrect PKMN IRL quotes. Because every community, even a roleplay community, needs one. Anyways, because I don't feel comfortable doing this for other people's characters this is mostly submission based. You submit an incorrect quote featuring your characters (or characters from the list of OCs found here), I post it. Just head over to that dropdown menu and click the submission button (don't send it as an ask).

If you want your OC added to the list of OCs that are free reign for quotes, just send me an ask and I'll add it.

-ofc, Darkraitown was based off the mystery dungeon games and it fucked Diantha up so much

-so after the whole show, Dia's fucking crying all "don't they understand that Orpheus just loves Eurydice so much he looked back, Geeta my love I would look back too, I'll look back to make sure you're still there, will you forgive me if I somehow got us trapped in that nightmare ;–;"

-and Geeta was abt to tell her that they should stop watching that show but y'know, she just indulges her bc she's really fuckin sobbing, and goes "of course, mi ángel, I'd be the immediate forgiveness in Eurydice."

-Dia cried harder, Geeta had to buy her cake to calm her down

•contrary to popular belief, it's Geeta that's actually into pda

-she loves getting to hold Diantha's hand, and it's even better that Diantha is really affectionate too

-so ofc people thought they were dating

•the only times Diantha can really be herself is when she's w Geeta, since Geeta knows her that long she really doesn't have to hide anything

-Geeta ofc never exposes that side of Diantha, she doesn't want anyone to ruin Dia's reputation

•Diantha really is that affectionate tho and ofc it's bc she never got that kind of affection since she was young, and she knows Geeta never got that kinda affection too

-so it's a win win for them, since both of them are so touch deprived that Dia managed to somehow feed that desire of theirs by being so physically affectionate w Geeta

•if they argue, it's like that incorrect quote, they'd be sitting back to back holding hands and the other champions are there wondering till one of em says that Geeta and Diantha doesn't like to fight/argue w each other
