Excuse the ugly lamp glare but i drew another fantail today. Id like to make this into a sticker so keep an eye out for it in the future. This is an indian fantail pigeon lined with a #10 pigma micron, staedtler tri liners, and colored with ohuhu markers.

Hiiiiiii this is my half of a design trade with @soaricarus! It's Suntouched Mercy :]
his design is based on indian fantail pigeons, sunrises/sunsets, and those pictures of partly cloudy skies with god rays shining between the clouds :]

1st is without wings to better show the inside of the cape. the gradient ranges from the light yellow to the magenta used on the back of the cape's gradient
and the 2nd is just without the cape!

I get the vibe that, at least aesthetically, Cynthia Ciro’s animagus would be a secretary bird or a Indian fantail pigeon
Ooooooh good choices!! I can absolutely get behind this!

IT'S ROUND 2 TIME GUYS!!! YAY!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two images of pigeons. the first, a Rock dove, specifically a white and grey indian fantail stands in front of a white background. the second, a blue and red Speckled pigeon sits on a wooden post]
starting off with these two cuties!!! don't you just love them???
after everything the Rock dove has done for us, they are a great choice to vote for! and look how cool and beautiful the Speckled pigeon is! (and it is also known as the african rock pigeon, making this fight, rock pigeon against rock pigeon!! may the best pidge win!!)

Can you give me an honest opinion on these breeds that I’d love to breed in the future? I wanna get into companion breeding and idk if these are good options or no.
Indian Fantails
New York Flights
Old German owl
Classic old Frill
Lucerne
Lahore
Racing homer
American show racer
Any info or opinion on these breeds will help me in my future dreams(btw I have no plans of doing any crossbreeding outside of a project for a potential new breed)
I would not use Lahore, Racing homers or new york flights for companion breeding. In the case of flights and homers they are performance bred and tend towards being high strung or just very energetic. Lahore are kind of just bad tempered from my experience, mostly towards other pigeons.
Lahore and Indian Fantails tend to have muffs that are, in my opinion, unethical. Not every individual though, and you could definitely correct this by picking breeding stock with grouse/light muffs. They both are also Very Large breeds with big space needs.
American show racers have my utmost admiration and I think they are sorely under-appreciated as companion animals. Why they have not caught on widely, I do not know. I have found them to have better temperaments than even Lucernes. Funny animals. The only drawback is they may need light beak maintenance (easy to do at home) and they are very thick feathered so they make a lot of feathers and a good quantity of dust.
Classic old frills and old german owls are reliably good companion breeds. I dont have personal experience with them but they are good.
Lucernes are my breed so I am always going to recommend them for companionship. Their drawbacks are that they are larger than COFs and OGO, and more energetic (generally, Lucerne's historically were free flown and expected to forage for their own feed. ) They are also Dusty.
Also throwing my two cents in that companion pigeon breeding or pigeon breeding in general isnt for the faint of heart and i wouldnt recommend it for funsies. It's a lot less about the breed you pick, and much more about your ability to socialize young birds, understand pigeon behavior, psychology and social structure, and get good breeding pairs that pass on good temperaments. I would not breed pigeons until you have spent at least a few years just having and getting to know them and their: quirks, anatomy, training needs, flock dynamics, diet and enclosure needs, diseases, and parasites (of which there are many.)

I think if you were a dove, you would be a fantail. Idk you're very mature and elegant but you look like you don't know your left from right
I hope you mean the Indian Fantail, because American Fantails are a horribly unethical breed.

Me? Drawing characters with pigeons? again? Don’t be absurd! This time I included more than just Xehanort and Eraqus!
Bonus: Baldr (who I couldn't fit in without messing with the format)
Tumblr media
I’ve made no secret that I’ve always enjoyed my headcanon that Scala was absolutely pigeon central. Birds everywhere. Pigeons carrying small packages, pigeons delivering mail, pigeons flying around because people like pigeons.
So- I thought I’d give each character a pigeon breed that they might enjoy- whether it be just as a casual companion, or for mail, racing or show.
Keep reading for more info on pigeon choices and pigeon headcanons;
Xehanort: Xehanort has an Indian fantail pigeon. They’re companion breeds, so they’re his pet. They’re also particularly friendly, but high maintenance, so Xehanort spends a lot of time with his bird.
Urd: Urd has a standard pigeon that she uses for small mail, but she also enjoys the company.
Hermod: He has a racing pigeon that he’s convinced is the fastest in Scala. She has competed in several races, and won some of them, coming in close in others.
Bragi: Bragi decided to pick up pigeon keeping when everyone else did, although wasn’t as fussed about it. He likes Capuchin Pigeons because they look funny.
Vor: She has a German Owl pigeon, which likes to flit and fly around her loft. She’s also taught him tricks, although he’s a little nervous when it comes to flying in the big outside world. Due to this, Vor’s harness trained him so he can stick close to her when they’re out.
Eraqus: He started the whole pigeon thing; befriending many a bird in the streets until Xehanort suggested it'd be easier to get a couple of lofts. He chose a couple of Trumpeters, because he liked their lazy personality and their funny coos.
Baldr: Baldr likes the curly look of the feathers that Frillbacks have, and is particularly close to the Blue bar in the picture; although usually when she gets that close, its to peck at his nose.

hi i was wondering if you had a favorite type of pigeon
TECHNICALLY the morning dove
But honestly I'm a big fan of the generic feral / rock pigeon and seeing them honestly makes me happy and Im blessed every time I see them. The fact they are everywhere and common just means that I unironically get a good amount of joy every day just by seeing them sleeping on light poles and wires.
If we are talking about the Fancy / Domestic Pigeons, there are a lot of problematic ones and a lot of problems in the breeding of pigeons and honestly, I'm not far enough informed about how the welfare of them are - but aesthetically I really love fantail pigeons (both regular and indian), kazaner pigeon, and the egyptian swift pigeon
None of the extreme variants of any of those that are bred to deform the pigeon I think look good tho

hi dove!! not a deep question or anything but can i aks u two things?
1. whats a musical genre u would never touch again or ever? i feel like u have a wide musical palate so i cant rlly think of anything youd be Very Against but id want to know anyways
2. what birds would everyone in fine be :) n wjat patterns if its ok to ask!! also what colours did u wish birds came in
HI LAB! you may always ask me two things!
you are correct about me having a wide musical palate...so it actually took me a while until I could really think of a genre I didn't like...but you know what? Fuck dubstep. Stupidest genre on earth. It's funny to listen to ironically if you want to LARP as a 12-year-old boy doing a Minecraft outro, I suppose, but genuinely? Genuinely? I think the genre is almost irredeemable, perhaps even evil. and this is coming from someone that generally enjoys quite a lot of loud "bad" music.
2. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS REAL! I'm genuinely using up a high amount of my brain capacity trying to think about this. I'll be putting the rest of my response under a read more because I will be including photos of the birds ^_^.
TORI! he would obviously be a smaller bird...but it's hard to really find a species that feels right for him.
Hmm. I think in terms of general energy, he reminds me of a (pink-breasted) robin. whenever I see photos of robins I always laugh. I cannot really word what about them looks so deeply stupid and special...perhaps their faces, especially their eyes, read weirdly human to me in the sense that they oftentimes look quite serious or domineering despite their stupidly small stature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
essentially, they are very cute, but it's impossible not to laugh at them mockingly at least a little bit. which goes along well with how I feel about tori.
YUZURU! For some reason, my first thought was the jaybird family? Do you see it. Do you understand...perhaps an island-scrub jay, or even the fancier black-throated magpie-jay. I'm still not sure if I can 100% confirm, but these birds are just oddly Yuzuru-shaped to me. They also have beautiful dark blue feathers...I'm quite fond of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EICHI! This is another interesting one. My instinctual response was the mute swan. they are well-loved as symbols of elegance, gracefulness, light & love, but they also have a long-running old wives' tale reputation of being powerful and vicious (mostly because they're very protective of their partners and cygnets).
There's a pretty famous saying that you should steer clear of swans because they're powerful enough to break your arm, and though there may be a few (rare) accounts of swans going beyond usual intimidation tactics, they definitely do not go around breaking random people's arms...so...swan mischaracterization is real? SAD! This happened to my buddy Eichi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though, oddly enough, I think Eichi can also be somewhat dove-like at times? It's a high honour to award from me, Dove ceramicdove, but I can see an air of doveness in him at times. Perhaps a ringneck (they are on the smaller, "scrawnier" side, but they are very endearing to me). Or a seraphim pigeon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, however, I think I'll leave it off at the mute swan!
WATARU! Saving the little birthday princess for last (even though his birthday already ended, but it doesn't matter. every day is his birthday to me). Everyone already associates him with doves and pigeons, but I feel like he's versatile enough to fit the bill for multiple birds.
Sometimes he has the airs of the Indian peacock...sometimes, something like a garden fantail dove...I've heard that some of the CN fandom associates him with geese because he's big and loud, which is very funny and endearing to me, so I'm adding geese to the list in honour of that. I ALSO THINK HE COULD BE A BIT PARROT-LIKE but I'm not at all well-versed in parrots...!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think there can be more answers to this question than the ones I gave, but I still tried to be accurate! Thank you for giving me this opportunity...the reason why it took me so long to answer this was because, as I was looking for photos and species and such, I kept going down accidental rabbitholes and reading all sorts of articles and posts about birds...but I have reached the end!
Also, I think birds already come in many beautiful colours, but I wish there were more blue and silver birds...iridescent is not a colour, but more types of iridescent birds would be awesome.
Again, thank you for asking ^_^.

I love the little cowlick crests lucernes have - are there any other breeds that have them?
There are a few, though the peak crest (little cowlick) is less common than the shell crest (full coverage seen on the OGOs). Classic Old Frills are a common breed with them, but they also show up on Indian/Mindian Fantails, Old Dutch Turbits, Thuringer Pouters, and Archangels!
