I think more people (me) should stop using Ravens and other corvids to act as omen's of death when doing a symbolism and start using Pīwakawaka as omens of the death instead.
You may not like it, but this is what peak death omen looks like.

December 27, 2023 - Malaysian Pied-Fantail (Rhipidura javanica)
Found in parts of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore, these fantails live in wooded habitats and some open areas, usually near water. Foraging on or near the ground and joining mixed-species flocks, they feed on insects, capturing their prey in flight. They also follow monkeys and livestock, hunting insects disturbed by the larger animals. They build small cup-shaped nests from fine fibers and dry grass held together with spiderwebs in small trees, bushes, creepers, or bamboo and raise two to four broods per season.

The Thread of Life
-The bird featured here is the Aotearoa New Zealand pīwakawaka, a bird associated with death and the goddess of death Hine-nui-te-pō. It is commonly thought that if a pīwakawaka flies into your house it is an omen of death or an ancestor visiting.

Sketchbook dump
Part 2 of a little project in watercolors on NZ birds. I lovelovelovelove the NZ birds, they are just too cute. Already missing the parrots.
I wanted to make these into some simplified designs and into stickers but this has proven quite challenging. Those ones right here I quite messy already as like the paper looks so dirtyyyy but overall I am quite pleased with them.
The only one left to do is the bird of the century, the puteketeke hehe.

January 2, 2024 - New Caledonian Streaked Fantail (Rhipidura verreauxi)
These fantails are found in and around forests and in thickets and gardens in New Caledonia. They feed on insects, usually capturing prey in short flights from a perch, and join mixed-species flocks. Breeding from October to January, they build cup-shaped nests from fine plant materials, coarse fibers, and spiderwebs on thin branches. Females probably lay clutches of two eggs.
