The Indian sailor soon learned to speak Greek and offered his services by offering to help guide Egyptians ships to India -- good idea to the king, who commanded Eudoxus of Cyzicus- a greek sailor and trader.

The Indian sailor taught Eudoxus (say that 10 times fast...don't, I already hate typing it) the "secrets" of sailing using Indian monsoon winds and their patterns/directions in summer and winter and as you can imagine - kerboom. Egyptian and Indian maritime trade routes established. Eventually land routes followed and were developed from places such as Anatolia - watch towers began to pop up along the way, eventually Roman soldiers guarding ways.

Because bandits were a thing. So, what did India trade? Well, so damn much. Silverware, printed clothes, perfumes/scented oils, spices. Ice. Yes, mountain ice. Salts. Gems. Everything. And this trade benefitted India FAR more than the countries coming to it. Also coral. Yeah, that wasn't just for 2000's teens wearing it in necklaces. If you know...you know. Also, animals. There was a huge "Exotic" animal trade as well - tigers, rhinos, serpents were exported.

Other major partners of India in terms of imports are the USA (7.07%), Saudi Arabia (5.56%), Iraq 5.21%), Switzerland (3.82%), Hong Kong (3.12%), Singapore (3.09%), Korea (2.85%), and Germany (2.44%).

Viji Palithodi is the founder of a woman's trade union improving the working conditions of women. It focuses on the rights of saleswomen, who beforehand did not have the right to access a washroom even when they were doing 12-hour-shifts: "In shops, workers, especially the women, aren’t allowed to sit even when there aren’t any customers. After our protests, an amended law ensured seats."

Male-centric trade unions did not respond to these human rights violations, so Viji took it upon herself to form a women-centered union.

"After relentless protests and strikes, the government amended the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act (1960) in 2018, mandating toilet facilities for women workers. Local administration built public toilets in Kozhikode."

the paradesi synagogue in kochi, kerala, india. the first synagogue on the site, built by the city's longstanding malabari jewish community, was destroyed by portugese who'd colonized the area in their persecution of locals. it was rebuilt in 1568 by spanish and portugese jews who fled persecution and later expulsion, hence the name "paradesi" ("foreign" in malayalam).

these sephardic jews and a community of jews of mixed african and european descent who were formerly enslaved ("meshuchrarim", "freedmen" in hebrew) joined the malabari jewish community of kochi and somewhat integrated. they were later joined by some iraqi, persian, yemenite, afghan, and dutch sephardic jews. the middle eastern and european jews were considered "white jews" and permitted malabari jews and meshuchrarim to worship in the synagogue. however, in what seems like a combination of local caste dynamics and racism, malabari jews were not allowed full membership. meshuchrarim weren't allowed in at all, but were instead made to sit outside during services and not allowed their own place of worship or other communal rights.

as the "white jews" tended to be rather wealthy from trade, this synagogue contains multiple antiquities. they include belgian glass chandeliers on its walls, hand-painted porcelain tiles from china on its floors, and an oriental rug that was gifted by ethiopian emperor haile selassie.

According to Ministry of Commerce data, India’s trade deficit with China widened in 2021-22 and will continue to do so in 2022-23. India’s trade deficit with China rose to $73.31 billion in 2021-22 from $44.02 billion in 2020-21.
