Accrochée à cette certitude plus qu'à ma propre vie... Ils sont immortels parce que j'ai peur de disparaître en même temps... Cette crainte viscérale de ne pas mériter une seconde d'attention... J'ai grandi avec un démon qui m'a jeté le pire des sorts... Le mensonge sur mon identité... Les miroirs mentent ils plus que lui? Et si la vérité était le plus épouvantable des remèdes? L'espoir ne reviendra plus... J'en ai fait mon deuil... Ainsi que celui de mon avenir... Mes rêves ne sont plus qu'un lointain souvenir... A peine perceptible...

The Four Rumors

"Hey there! You're new around here, aren't you?"

"... Yes. I am."

"I see... Welcome to Quaint Town! I hope that the Velvet Complex isn't too shabby?"

"... No, it's not... And thank you."

"Hmmm... I know! You should probably listen to the Town's Four Rumors!"

"Four Rumors...? Something like a myth?"

"You could call it that, I suppose! Some called it a myth, while others called it a piece of forgotten history that is interpreted differently."

"... Care to share me about what the Four Rumors are about..?"

"Oh! I thought you would never ask! Let's see... Let us start with the most popular Rumor..."

Eyes of the Primary

"The first Rumor is appropriately called 'Eyes of the Primary'. Quite an eye catching name, is it not?"

"... Very funny."

"Anyways, enough about that! The Eyes of the Primary have many names, but we will address it as The Primary. The Primary is an entity that is known to create contracts to those who wished to strike a deal with it."

"So... a demon then?"

"Hmmm, I wouldn't really say that they're a demon... but it is quite a similar title, so maybe. It is rumored that The Primary kept as many souls over the years, but they also lost many souls that are clever enough to escape from their contract. It is also murmured that The Primary, to this day, is still hunting down the very souls that tricked it."

"... I see... How come that The Primary is a popular Rumor?"

"Well, certain disappearances with unknown origins makes people talk. They would claim that the First Rumor is true, but they would always shrug it off."

"Disappearances with unknown origins... I never heard of anything about that..."

"Right? It is also a part of the Rumor, I heard! That such 'unknown disappearances' will be scrubbed off of existence- as if they were never there."

"... That's... concerning... I think..."

"Don't worry, it's just a part of the Rumor! You could say that the Four Rumors is quite a popular ghost story, for those who want to give others a good scare!"

"I hope it remains that way... Care to share about the other three?"

"Getting curious now, aren't we? Let me continue on to the second Rumor!"

The Starved

"The second Rumor is based off of an old saying that involves the High Mountains."

"A saying?"

"Mmhm! I believe it goes like... Lay your head low when entering the High Mountains."

"Lay your head low... like bowing?"

"Hmm, you could say that, yes! Every time we enter the High Mountains, one must always bow before continuing."

"Why? Did something happen there?"

"That's the fun part! See, the Rumor was birthed from that very saying itself. Rumor has it that the littered items around the mountains were from the victims of The Starved. Which is why people would always bow their head before the forests of the High Mountains."

"The Starved...."

"But if you were to ask me, it's probably just mountain hikers and campers being irresponsible yet again! They do tend to loiter around that area.... I'd rather that they don't."

"Why's that?"

"Let's move on to the next Rumor!"

"You didn't answer my question...."

"Hm? You were saying something?"

"... never mind. Go on..."

Penumbra

"The third Rumor may not be as popular, but good enough to scare children back to their beds."

"It sounds... safer, I think."

"Oh, it's anything but safe, I am afraid."

"What do you mean?"

"People would claim that they have sighted this Rumor, but plenty of them were either fake, hoaxes, or just paranoia on the reporter's part."

"Exactly... is it not the lesser of evils between the Rumors?"

"Well, the thing is, it's the Rumor itself. Rumor has it that this being is not a creature of pure darkness, nor pure light. However, what it is is that it cannot live without the two elements."

"... Like a shadow?"

"Exactly! A shadow can't be considered one without the light or the dark. It needs both of the two concepts combined, though the part that made kids cry and head back to their parents about this Rumor is well..."

"... Well?"

"An incident that happened during Halloween, years back. A group of kids were trick or treating, messing around as young children do! Until they noticed a traveling person. Well, they believed that it is, except..."

"...."

"When it turned to their direction... Their lantern illuminated the very dark mass of shadow and unspeakable light behind them."

"... That sounds something like what kids would say, alright..."

"And it was in the middle of night, too! Quite a classic trope, but it soon became a popular Rumor by the time Halloween rolls around. Some would even dedicate to try and exactly make up a costume about this Rumor!"

"No wonder our black coats are getting sold so fast... But nobody knows what the shadow looks like... What even is its name?"

"Well, the children called them Penumbra, or commonly known as the Shadow."

"Penumbra... that does sound ominous..."

"Ominous as it is, I believe that it is all but a silly tale."

"Quite ironic, considering how you seem to have memorized the Four Rumors by heart...."

"That doesn't mean I have to believe in it like it's religion! Believe me, there are plenty of people out there crazy over the Four Rumors..."

"A fandom of them... just because of this...? Concerning, and absurd..."

"Well, let's not talk about that! We're nearing the last one, you see!"

".... The last one, huh...."

Inexistence

"Hmm, how odd... was it the Four Rumors, or was it the Three Rumors?"

"..... Don't keep me waiting. I have a shift to do."

"Right, right, my bad! The Fourth Rumor is a mystery, really... it was said that it originated from a different town. I believe it was something like the neighboring city miles away from Quaint Town?"

"You mean Loud City? Ugh, don't get me started with that place..."

"It can't be that bad! .... okay, maybe the name of the city itself is a dead giveaway, but I digress! The Fourth Rumor is what the locals around here call: 'Inexistence'."

".... Inexistence...."

"Basically: this Rumor does not exist! Or, at least it shouldn't have. It was born from the First Rumor's little rumor, where they believed that perhaps another being is behind those unknown disappearances. Disappearances that shouldn't be there, or shouldn't have had occurred. That, or it's based off of the many cases of Jane Doe's and John Doe's- which is highly unlikely, considering..."

"It's time."

"Hm?"

"My shift. Don't you also have a shift too?"

"Oh! I have almost forgotten about it! Well then, I'll see you around Quaint next time, miss Arter!"

"Hope not..."

"Oh, don't joke like that! Quaint Town's a peaceful and quaint town after all. We're bound to see each other again! Goodbye!"

"... Bye to you too, I guess...."

found the old display book where i stored my second (and longest)(and unfinished) fanfic and i’ll have you know the highlight was Severus stabbing a dragon in the throat with a poisoned dagger to save Hogwarts, in front of everyone 🙌🏻

he was able to jump on the dragon because he had ✨angel wings✨ black covered in ebony feathers, of course 🖤

and every chapter had deep poetic introductory quotes bc i was a dramatic teenager.
