There's rather generic pop music playing on the radio, something recent, listed somewhere in the upper section of the current charts; Steven's hands are submerged in the foamy water as he listens to the catchy tune filling the silence of their flat, moving the kitchen sponge across a plate he's holding onto, removing any dirt and leftover crumbs that stick to it from the breakfast he's had mere minutes ago - doing the dishes, being diligent.

The air smells like lemon grass and cucumber, leftover herbal tea and warmed-up toast - such a nice blend of scents, honestly, and that the sun is shining bright today makes everything even better! Steven's in a chipper mood, has slept exceptionally well tonight, the food he's just had was amazing, and... yeah, everything is just great today, honestly!

---That's why he is currently humming along to the music, even going as far as moving his body a bit as he does - swinging his hips a little, bouncing where he's standing, just feeling the flow of the rhythm.

It is then that something else cuts through the moment, spoken in what Steven would call awe, perhaps - and he almost misses it, the string of syllables, because he's so focused on that song that it takes him a second there to realize that this isn't part of the lyrics...

God, I love you.

---Steven freezes on the spot, gaze continuing to linger on the foam covering his hands, the plate he is still scrubbing clean; One, two, three whole moments pass before he blinks, finally, and turns his head, glancing over his shoulder toward the make-up mirror that they've placed onto their small dining table a little while ago to make it easier for them to talk to another - meeting a reflection there...

Marc. It's Marc, and he appears as white as a sheet there, eyes wide open, a deer in headlights; Shocked, definitely. Perhaps similar to what Steven must look like at that very moment, truly letting it sink in now, the fact that something very special - a certain kind of emotion - has been revealed to him there.

Just like that.

And oh boy is Steven blushing now, feeling his face heat up to about 3000 degrees celcius within a bloody second, causing him to immediately whip his head back around, hiding a bit; Because oh gosh, that's... oh, that's--- something there, huh? What... what Marc has just said. That's... yeah, definitely something. Makes his little heart start to race inside his chest, hammering against his sternum, followed by the sensation of a thousand butterflies exploding in the pit of this stomach---

Okay. Act... casual. Act cool. Be nonchalant. Marc's expression has told it all, really - he must've muttered it out on accident. It... it happens, right? It's just--- it just, sometimes, you know, it just... yeah. That.

"D-did you... - uh, say something there, M-Marc?" Oh, yes, so very collected, definitely not a fricking mess at all, not stumbling all over his own spoken words there.

Despite being considered boring by most, Steven was happy with his routine. He woke up, he got ready, he spent the day at work doing a job he typically enjoyed, and then came home, fed his fish, read some mythology books and attempted to sleep. It was working well for him, this new life he’d settled into in Alexandria. He called his mother about it daily, the messages he left her a way to ease his loneliness; that was the only problem he’d had thus far, alongside the sleepwalking. The rebels were so close, it wasn’t an easy barrier to break into, especially for someone who was relatively shy. But he was making progress, his experience as a sales assistant spouting the occasional good conversation. Because as guarded as they were, Steven didn’t deem any of them cruel. 

He was halfway through his shift, designated cashier today, when the woman approached him. Steven noticed how beautiful she was in an instant, stray curls falling over her tired eyes, and he swallowed hard, already feeling the embarrassment he was going to cause himself. “Oh, sorry. No. Name’s not Marc,” he gestured to his name badge, polite smile on his face. “Steven, actually. Believe it or not, it’s not the first time someone’s had a little mix up with me. Apparently I look like this Poe bloke. Dunno’ what that’s all about. ‘Don’t see it myself,” he admitted, laughing awkwardly at his own rambling. “Sorry. Anyway. Would you like me to scan your items through? We got some apples here, by the looks. Some rice…” 

Layla supposed she should’ve been grateful for the newfound quiet. With the Rebels’ victory a success, Panem was currently free from oppressive control. All that was left was making sure it stayed that way, and helping out the little man in the meantime. But Layla didn’t feel she had much of anything to offer anymore, completely drained. She’d not only lost her father, but her husband. If she didn’t still have her creed, she’d have nothing. That’s what had drawn her to Alexandria in the first place — loyalty for the one thing she had left. With all the ground work complete, Layla was left with little to do but observe and rest. But rest refused to come, sleepless nights drawing out her weeks, every day spent feeling restless and lonely. Today wasn’t any different. Exhausted, and low on food, she made her way to the grocery store. Routine was the only thing that gave her any energy anymore. But as she reached the checkout, Layla was thrown right out of her tired haze, inhaling sharply, the items she was holding falling from her grip. For staring right back at her was her husband. “Marc?” Her eyes bugged out of her head, feeling as if her heart had stopped dead. He was there. How was he there? “What the fuck?” She breathed, her heart unsure which emotion to settle on first.

Fun Fact: Goldfish are very sociable creatures- loving being with other goldfish… (I apologize in advance for what about to say)

Steven Grant having one goldfish was also a way to showcase how lonely he was in a such a big city-

And the fish having two tails means they are fancy goldfish- who need to have another one for the best quality of life!

MoonKnight Headcanons *Modern AU*

Lets get the obvious out the way.

Disclaimer: This is written as if they had separate bodies, so triplets I suppose.

Steven

Steven would major in Egyptology and Archeology.

I can see him traveling the world studying ancient wonders but specializing in the Egyptian ones.

He graduates with a double major; travels around the world, eventually making notable discoveries and finds. And retires as a professor.

Unlike his brothers, he chooses to stay a little more grounded. He may be the only person alive who likes busy work; grading papers, and all that.

Something about "peeking into the brilliant minds of today's youths."

It's fascinating to him and brings back memories of his time as a student.

He tends to be bit disappointed, though... his students are a creative bunch, but their grammer and spelling give him a headache. The ideas are there, but the execution is flimsy at best. But nothing that can't be fine-tuned and workshopped!

He becomes a tenured professor, and many of his colleagues come to him for advice on how to motivate their own students. He almost cried (he did cry) when the staff came together and celebrated his birthday. Gave him a vegan cake and everything.

Students even threw him a little suprise party.

They decorated his classroom and everything. He was so moved his gave them extra credit (they were hoping for a free exam grade, but they still love him).

Marc

Majors in Archeology or becomes a firefighter. I can't really see him being a police officer, but I do think he'd want to go into a field where he helps people.

The chief of the station practically takes Marc under his wing because he sees himself in Marc. Basically, he becomes a father figure to him and teaches him not to be so self sacrificial and hot-headed.

Marc continues being on field duty until he's forced to retire by his team due to old age. Or they force him to take a desk job, which he absolutely hates.

He becomes chief of the station by the end of his career thought. (Previous fire chief long passed/retired).

He's very respected and loved by the members of his station despite how thick headed and stubborn he can be. He's tough but fair, just like his previous mentor.

Jake

Jake is just as smart as Marc and Steven are, just in a different way. He applies himself and graduates college with a double major in mechanical and electrical engineering.

(This one is a bit up in the air in what he'd do after, but I really think he'd get a degree if he could).

Or he'd major in law and business!

He'd become a private investigator and help the little guys who can't afford a big-time lawyer. (He directs them to his friend Matthew Murdock and his buddy Nelson).

And he investigates shady business practices even if it means doing it in not so legal ways. Such as "dealing" with Slumlords price gouging the rent or not having the building up to code.

Jake has had many run-ins with the law before, so he knows people, and those people know people.

That's why he studied the law, memorized it, just so he could break it (within reason) and beat those greedy big timers at their own game.

And well, next thing you know, the building was having repairs done, and the rent was down to an affordable price. And no one (except the client) is any the wiser.

Other jobs include:

If he's running low on cash (or wants some drama), he'd catch cheating spouses.

He'll even take missing persons reports; ones the police gave up on and said, "were lost causes." He has eyes and ears out on the streets, just for the occasion.

For better or for worse, his success rate is above 50%.

Much to his dismay.

It gets to him sometimes, but he's lucky he has Marc and Steven to bring him out of the deep end.

@therapardalis we talked about this so let's do it :D (This is so much longer than expected, no need to match my length I just turned the picture-viewing into a conversation sdjfhgsdg)

---He's just going to get something from one of the offices in the back, for one of his colleagues; Despite them being mean to him still, from time to time, Steven's just... well, Steven. Besides, that colleague who had asked him to retrieve the folder in question is nice to him, so he can certainly be kind in return - especially since Steven's only helping out in the gift shop today, which is certainly going slow at that very minute.

So there he is, making his way along the hallway, humming a tune that only exists inside his mind - a catchy pop-song he's been listening to on the radio, something currently listed in the charts since it's playing almost every morning when he gets ready for work.

"---Precioso, espera un segundo."

Steven blinks, immediately comes to a halt, brows lifted as he looks left and right, finding the nearest reflective surface - which happens to be a glass display case. The reflection of his partner is faint, but it's there, and Jake nods over to the wall behind the other, curious.

"Can you take a closer look at those photographs over there? ---Just wanna check something."

Can Jake see them from where he is currently? Yeah. But he wants to have a better view, wants to get closer---

"Uhm, sure thing! They're cool, huh? A lot of fascinating portraits... some are very old!" Chipper, as usual, Steven turns and makes his way over to the picture wall, allowing his gaze to roam. "---I sometimes wonder about the situations these people must've been in while their picture was taken. I-I mean, we kinda know, there's descriptions and such, but... y-you know what I mean! The circumstances, what they thought about it all---"

As Steven is rambling along, continuing to talk about his thoughts regarding those photographs, Jake takes in the sight of one picture in particular. Steven continues to look away all the time, but his gaze does linger on each of those portraits for a little while, and that's enough for Jake to get a good look on that woman---

"Interesting.", he mumbles, and Steven stops mid-sentence...

"---And so I was... huh? What, mate? Her?" A finger is pointed at the picture in front of them, and he feels Jake nodding within their mind.

"Si. Feels familiar to me." Oh, she not only feels familiar, but she is, indeed. That... intrigues him, because Thera used to either have an amazing doppelganger back in the day, or that's... her. Which means---

"...Huh. I mean, she's kinda pretty!" Steven doesn't know what this is about, obviously, so he just... hums. Stares with a different kind of fascination lingering on his features. "I mean, not my type, but... certainly nice to look at! That picture was taken back in Egypt - in Cairo, it says! Oh, fascinating! I really wished I could go to Cairo again as well, one day - go to one of those dig sites and have a closer look..."

"Mhm." As much as he loves Steven, he's really not thinking about the location right here...

"---Oh bloody hell, I'm late! Sorry love, we can look at her later again, alright? I really need to---"

Suddenly realizing he's short on time, Steven hurries over to the office to grab that damn folder before making his way back through the corridor; He almost crashes into his colleague on the way, apologizes for having taken longer than expected, and then immediately makes his way back to the gift shop...

---Thank god it's empty, still. Steven inhales, then exhales as if the weight of the world just fell off his shoulders; His chipper mood returns and he starts to sort through some items, rearranging them in the shelves...

"...So, you wanna tell me why she fascinated you? T-that woman, I mean! On the picture."

"Huh? ...Oh, as said, just looked familiar to me. Estoy seguro de que es solo una coincidencia. No hay necesidad de darle vueltas."

Steven just lets out a thoughtful noise, then shrugs as he continues to fiddle around with some Tawaret-plushies...
