Not to dwell on this too much longer but I cannot fucking believe that we conceptualized, organized, created, presold, produced, shipped, ran leftovers and shipped leftovers on a whole fanthology during the layout arrangement period of a different fanthology that I was assured would go to print in spring of last year. Holy shit.

Hi
Not OFMD specific but might be of interest
(copied without permission given to reproduce)
Found in Private Eye 16-29th Feb
Warner Gloss:
Labour's business charm offensive continued last week, as Keir Starmer proudly posted that he had met with David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, aiming to "work in partnership with the creative industries to drive growth".
Named by the New York Times as the man who "blew up Hollywood", Zaslav in fact seems to be doing everything he can to prevent growth in the industry. Having merged hi cable TV company, Discovery with entertainment conglomerate Warner Bros in 2022, Zaslav took on $56bn in debt and enacted cost cuts of £3bn.
To achieve this he set about binning TV shows and films that had already been completed in order to claim large tax write-offs - most notoriously superhero caper Batgirl - and removing shows from streaming services to avoid paying residuals fees.
In a move that might have had more appeal for St
armer, Zaslov also hired Chris Licht as CEO of CNN in 2022 to make the news service more appealing to conservative viewers - but then fired him within a year after ratings hit rock bottom. Under Zaslav's watch, the stock price of Warner Bros Discovery Inc has fallen by nearly 60% - probably not quite the growth Starmer would hope to discover!
END
Firstly thank you for your round-ups, much appreciated!
"make the new service more appealing to conservative viewers" Why am I not surprised.....
Secondly I am disturbed that the possible future leader of the UK or his advisors didn't do more investigating before agreeing to or asking for this meeting, very disappointing.
Thirdly "removing shows from streaming services to avoid paying residuals fees" Should we be concerned by this for series 1 and 2?
best wishes
Susannah
Hey omg I'm like 3 days behind on messages/replies/asks I'm sorry! This weekend was crazy! Hi Susannah!
Oh interesting! I've never read Private Eye, I'll go check them out now! Oh darn- looks like a paywall, thank you for pasting the text! (And no problem about the recaps! Thanks so much for reading them!)
To address your second point: I wish I knew more about Keir Starmer! I'm in the US so I only know tangentially about him. You would think someone would have vetted the situation a bit more though (although you know Zaslav has been a bit of a sneaky little fucker about everything until he was outed more recently). Sorry I don't have much to say on that point!
To address your third point:
Yeahhhhhh, my hope is that it won't affect OFMD too much because it's a bit more of it's own thing (and not a WB proprety like the Coyote movie). I think they could actually make money selling S1 and S2 as opposed to loss since there's such a demand for it, so personally I don't think it's going to be much of an issue, but I have no real authority or reason to believe that except common sense (which we all know hollywood doesn't always have).
@fuckyeahisawthat had a good take though, it's kind of anything goes unfortunately.
Tumblr media
I have faith though... because like a lot of my tumblr colleagues have said, David Jenkins would have probably told us by now if in fact, there was literally no hope. He's been pretty good about putting out hints and letting us know where to focus our efforts, and as of yet he hasn't flat out said "Thanks anyway guys, but its not going to happen.
That in itself gives me hope for s1, s2 and s3.
Anyway, thanks for the write in Susannah! I'm really sorry again it took me so long to answer, and then I doubt I gave you anything of real substance @_@. I hope you're having a lovely day, and would love to chat more!
Take care, sending love!

Creating Your Own History: Archival Themes in "The Watermelon Woman" [Part 1]
Tumblr media
An archivist speaks to the film’s protagonist about having a “great system” to organize archival records within the community archive.
The Core Values Statement of the Society of American Archivists says that archivists should expand access, respect diversity found in humanity, and advocate for archival collections that reflect humanity’s complexity. [1] The reality is often different from that ideal in a field that is overwhelmingly White, as a recent article about Black archives pointed out. [2] This is evident in Cheryl Dunye’s 1996 romantic comedy-drama film, The Watermelon Woman, which the Library of Congress added to the National Film Registry in December 2021 for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” [3] The film follows the story of one Black woman’s determined effort to create her own history and connect with the past. Although this eighty-six-minute mockumentary is over twenty-six years old, its themes of archival limits, power, silences, erasure, and fabrication continue to resonate today.
Reprinted from The American Archivist Reviews Portal. Thanks to Rose and Stephanie for their editing of this article! It was also posted on my Wading Through the Cultural Stacks WordPress blog on Jul. 5, 2022. This review contains some spoilers for the film The Watermelon Woman.
In the film, Cheryl Dunye plays a videographer (also named Cheryl Dunye) who works at a video rental store in Philadelphia with her friend Tamara (played by Valarie Walker). Cheryl watches a videocassette of an old 1930s film, Plantation Memories, and becomes interested in the character Elsie, a stereotypical ‘mammy’ character credited as “The Watermelon Woman.” She then strives to learn more about the actress who played Elsie. One of the first places Cheryl looks is in the basement of her mother’s house. Cheryl tells the audience that her mother, played by Irene Dunye, who is Cheryl’s mother in real life, throws nothing away. She says that Irene’s filing system needs updating. Her mother tells her about the films she watched growing up in the 1930s and notes that she saw “Elsie” singing in some clubs.
Cheryl continues her dogged search by talking to a person with a collection of old Black films and then traveling to the local public library, likely the Free Library of Philadelphia. After perusing the stacks, she checks out as many books as she can and talks to the reference librarian, a White man who is played by David Rakoff. Wanting information about the Watermelon Woman, she encounters her first archival limit, which scholars Sue McKemmish, Michael Piggott, Barbara Reed, Frank Upward, Jocelyn Fenton Stitt, and Sarah Tyson define as barriers created when documents pass into the hands of archival institutions from those who created them, inhibiting attempts to use records to tell family stories and circumscribing efforts to reclaim records about enslaved people. [4]
The librarian dismissively tells Cheryl to check the “Black,” “film,” and “women” sections of reference books for information about the Watermelon Woman. With much prodding, he eventually searches his computer and identifies Martha Page as the film’s director, telling Cheryl that information about Page is on a reserve desk on another floor. Although reserve desks serve students and faculty with materials typically meant for university courses, Cheryl is given an exception and is able to access the relevant information for her research. Yet, she is still unsuccessful because the materials she looks at don’t have exactly what she is looking for.

Photo
Tumblr media
Hi Skippy & Friends-Pilgrim here discussing EARS again. I have not wanted to stray into this quagmire for a while but this photo made me sit up and question again if they have used Eugenie’s son as a stand in for Archie. They needed a younger actor while filming…hmmm.Check out the photos at Getty Images- type in her name and get to page 5…after the funeral photos. The ears on her son are like this…low on his head. Also, the ears on the child they use for Lilibet are also very low on the side of his/her head. The color of the hair is similar…reddish brown with grey blue eyes. August was born Feb 2021. The cousins were seen a year later at the Feb 2022 Superbowl in CA when she, Jack and I think they said August went to L. A.
I checked the other images of boys the Harkle’s have presented and their ears are not this low. The boy sitting in his diaper when she rushed though reading the book for older kids…his ears are above this line as are those on the child with Rev. Tutu. The little boy at the 4th of July parade last year has much higher ear placement. So, perhaps this was a moment when Uncle Harold was keeping his guest’s child happy as they packed, explaining bags at the door and it was “conveniently” presented otherwise in the Netflix series. Just a thought…have a great day.
Over and out from a lovely Cape Cod.
Very interesting…great catch in suitcase….thank you😂😂😂😂😂

Note
Do you think any art or writing events are still happening in the Cherik fandom that might come up this year?
Hi Anon,
Last year, we had the following events happening in the X-Men fandom:
X-Men Rare Pairs 2022 - Feb/Mar X-Men Remix Madness 2022 - June X-Men Kink Meme 2022 - Sep/Oct Secret Mutant Madness 2022 - Nov/Dec
(This list doesn't include pan-fandom writing events like AU-gust or Whumptober etc.)
All of the above are both art and writing events; I run Rare Pairs and Remix and @jackyjango is the Mod for Kink Meme and Secret Mutant. In the past few years we've had interest spike up and down pretty dramatically:
Rare Pairs - 41 works (2020), 87 works (2021), 17 works (2022) Remix - 51 (2020), 21 (2021), 16 (2022) Kink Meme - 23 (2020), 39 (2021), 8 (2022) Secret Mutant - 25 (2020), 36 (2021), 7 (2022)
As you can see, we've had a big decrease in participation this past year, which leads me to believe that interest in fandom wide events continues to wane (this has been happening on average yr over yr). Speaking only for myself - it's unlikely I'll run Rare Pairs again (that's a fest for all pairings except the Cherik juggernaut, started so people could have a place to write for other faves besides the main ship). Remix...I'll wait and see and do an interest check later in the year. Will let Jacky speak to the other two events :D
(There used to be an X-Men Big Bang too but that hasn't happened in oh...more than 5 years at least I think.)

February 2023 Update
Tumblr media
Happy belated new year! I considered doing a retrospective on 2022, but I only had two things to ponder:
Seems like Limited Run games are being taken seriously, and some go for a lot of money secondhand. It's hard to tell if it took off because people are speculating... but ultimately I'm pro-physical media. So it's cool that LR is legit.
Launch day sales seem to be a new long-term trend for indie steam games. Targets the people that refuse to buy unless it's on sale, I guess (see: me)
Here's what came out since I last made a post:
Melatonin - Dec 15 (overwhelmingly positive)
Pizza Tower - Jan 26 (overwhelmingly positive)
Season: A Letter to the Future - Jan 31 (very positive)
Deliver Us: Mars - Feb 2 (mostly positive)
Hi-Fi Rush surprise launched on Game Pass and Series X on Jan 25 to widespread praise. The trailer during the Developer Direct sold me pretty well, so that was a pleasant surprise!
Sons Of The Forest (Feb 23) was switched to an Early Access release, and Amnesia: The Bunker was delayed from March to May.
Upcoming February releases:
Blanc - Feb 14
Birth - Feb 17
Atomic Heart - Feb 20
Atomic Heart has an interesting background. First announced in 2018, the reveal trailer wowed everyone with its creepy, bizarre visuals and Bioshock-like gameplay. As time went on, it was revealed that the trailer wasn't actually what the game was like, and I started to wonder if it was vaporware. Later it was reported that the team was crunching hard to meet the expectations of that trailer.
Early impressions have been surprisingly good, so I'm eager to check it out for myself - not exactly that I'm hype to play, but I just have to see what this game is. FYI, it'll be on game pass.
(Also, this release date trailer is very amusing to me since the game was delayed to 2023. This is why you don't get overdramatic about release dates!)

Baroque Architecture
Tumblr media
Peterhof Palace, Petergof
(the spruce) Definition:
“Baroque architecture is a highly opulent style of building, design and art.”
The Baroque style originated in the 17th century in Italy, before it spread throughout Europe and to the USA. According to thespruce.com, “Baroque architecture evolved in response to a tumultuous period that began in the 16th century”. After the chaos of the 16th century, leaders wanted to use buildings as a show of their power and wealth – they wanted to show off! The leaders’ desire was mainly prominent in the design of the Catholic churches. This style of architecture was inspired by the Romans, except they added modern aspects to create a “new fashion with an aim to show the might of the Catholic church” (world atlas).
“The emergence of Baroque architecture coincided with European colonialism” (world atlas), which works perfectly with the style’s specific aims. During this time lots of wealth was brought into art and design industries in order to help fund the development of the artistic styles and to help move forward towards a new era. These new funds helped to industrialize the economy and further support society.
The architects of the Baroque era were, as described by thespruce.com, “more theatrical” than those of the Renaissance.
(archute) Characteristics:
"Grandeur
Vivid ceilings with illusion effects
Contrast in design
Gilded statues
Pear-shaped domes
Irregular Shapes”
Diverse and complex
According to the Spruce the Baroque style had “subtle differences” within separate countries. Baroque was a popular style therefore, “locations altered the basic characteristics to suit their agenda and lifestyle” (thespruce). One of the particularly interesting characteristics of Baroque architecture is the deliberate unfinished look. This created confusion and question within viewers/ visitors’ minds – which leads further towards one of the aims of the Baroque style which was to “stimulate emotions and senses” (the collector) through its many designs.
For some more insight into the characteristics of Baroque architecture, check out this video: Baroque Architecture / Characteristics – famous buildings.

CURRENTLY WATCHING:  April.
Tumblr media
KOREAN.
+ Call It Love (2023)(26 Feb-) ★★★★☆
I love the tone this drama sets. It has a bit of a rosy, moody feel that ends up being so lovely and whimsical. There is so much to love about this drama from our lead couple to all the sibling feels along with Yoon Joon. It's refreshing how this drama balances the every day with just a touch of magic. I've enjoyed the case study of our lead characters and delving into their motivations and fears.
+ Our Blooming Youth (2023)(6 Feb-) ★★★☆☆
I would not be able to expand on anything about the political tensions of this drama. All the palace politics can't seem to keep my interest. Every time one of the red turtle squad is front and center, my attention just wanders. I only watch this for the cute aspects of our lead trio. I live for all the scenes that capture our jealous prince.
+ Taxi Driver (2023)(s2)(17 Feb-) ★★☆☆☆
Not loving this right now. I am enduring this for Lee Je Hoon. The weekly bad guys are way too cartoony and extremely over-acted.
JAPANESE.
+ Hyaku man kai Ieba Yokatta (2023)(25 Mar-) ★★★☆☆
This didn't seem like a premise that I was necessarily drawn to but the cast made me interested enough to check it out. I've been pleasantly surprised by this show so far. It's really nice to see Inoue Mao back on the small screen. I've missed her!!
+ Mare (2014)(8 Jan-)

Putin Says He Wants to End Ukraine War
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Dec. 22, 2022.--Russian President Vladimr Putin, 70, said today that he’s interested in ending the Ukraine War, following 44-year-old Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky’s Dec. 21 speech to a joint a session of Congress.  Putin reacted swiftly to Zelensky’s Dec. 21 speech that asked the U.S. Congress for more cash-and-arms to fight the Russian Federation. Without U.S. government largess, the Kiev government would be bankrupt, out of cash, with no resources to prosecute any war, let alone against the Kremlin.  Putin’s call for peace talks were promptly dismissed by White House spokesman John Kirby.  “Our goal is not to spin the flywheel of military conflict, but on the contrary, to end this war,” Putin said.  Kirby insists, repeating Zelensky’s talking points, that Putin has made no effort to pull Russian troops out of Ukraine, a pre-condition for Zelensky of any movement to the peace table.
Zelensky insists that Putin must pull all his troops from Ukraine, returning every inch of sovereign territory, even though Putin controlled parts of Doentsk, Luhansk and all of Crimea before the Feb. 24 war started.  Kirby said Putin continues to fight his war in Ukraine, not demonstrating any movement to end the war.  Putin has “shown absolutely zero indications that he’s willing to negotiate” and end to the conflict.  Kirby, a clever propagandist, knows that Zelensky has set unrealistic conditions for ending the war.  White House spokesman often speak for Putin, twisting his words to fit the White House narrative that he doesn’t want to end the war.  Putin offered to end the war in March, asking Kiev to accept the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk and to recognize Crimea as a sovereign part of Russia.  Zelensky, not Putin, rejected the peace overture, yet Kirby insists Putin refuses to negotiate.
Biden has fallen into Zelensky’s trap that has Kiev demanding that Putin pull out of every inch of Ukrainian territory and repay Ukraine reparations for the 10-month-old war.  So when Kirby says Putin refuses to negotiate, he’s really saying the opposite.  “Ouite the contrary,” Kirby told reporters.  “Everything he [Putin] is doing on the ground and in the air bespeaks a man who wants to continue to visit violence upon the Ukrainian people” and “escalate the war,” Kirby said.  Kirby blames Putin but he gives Zelensky a pass on moving the conflict to the peace table.  Every American patriot can’t accept giving Zelensky a blank check to prosecute his war against the Kremlin.  Allocating some $45 billion to Zelensky are staggering amounts of U.S. tax dollars, something that could be used to eradicate the U.S. homeless population or the gap in health care leaving many citizens subject disease and early death.
Zelensky’s Dec. 21 speech to a joint session of Congress was pure claptrap, designed to sell lawmakers on giving Ukraine a blank check to fight the Kremlin.  Zelensky told lawmakers U.S. largess was not “charity,” it was an investment in defending the world for democracy.  Imagine that, Zelensky thinks his bankrupt Kiev government defends the world against tyrants like Putin.  Zelensky asked but was denied “fast-track” NATO membership because Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg wants no part of his war with the Kremlin.  How Biden fell into Zelensky’s war with the Russian Federation is anyone’s guess.  Kirby and other White House officials know that Zelensky’s demands to end the conflict are unrealistic.  Neither Zelensky nor Putin are objective at this point, leaving the peacemaking business to experienced statesmen at the U.N. or in some other neutral framework.
Peacemaking is not something that Zelensky or Putin can prejudge, leaving it into the hands of experienced diplomats capable to crafting a ceasefire and peace plan.  “I have said many times, the intensification of hostilities leads to unjustified losses,” Putin told reporters, signaling that he’s ready to move the conflict to the peace table.  Kirby won’t admit that Zelensky wants to keep the war going, not giving up the billions in U.S. aid to pay for the bankrupt Kiev government.  Zelensky’s demands that Putinleave every inch of Ukraine’s sovereign territory isn’t realistic.  But the real question for the White House is how long can the U.S. continue to subsidize Kiev’s bankrupt government and war with the Kremlin.  Kirby needs to tell Zelensky that U.N. peacemakers will take all of Ukraine’s demands into consideration.  Ending the war is about moving the conflict from the battlefield to the peace table.
White House officials and U.S. lawmakers must recognize that the Ukraine War can’t go on indefinitely without severe economic conseqiemce for world peace and the global economy.  Whether admitted to or not, Biden’s Russian oil embargo fueled the worst inflation in energy and other commodities in 40 years, wreaking havoc in U.S. and world economic markets.  Today’s runaway inflation can be directly tied to the Feb. 24 Ukraine War.  Unless there’s an end to the Ukraine War, the U.S. and global economy will suffer more damage.  Zelensky’s so wrapped up with revenge against Putin he doesn’t see the damage the Ukraine War does to the world economy.  Putin made his peace overture, now its time for Zelensky.  Making unrealistic demands as precondition to ceasefire and peace talks is not acceptable.  Zelensky must put his trust in U.N. peacekeeper to do the right thing.
