Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
Since she's not from Georgia originally, there are moments with the group where some Georgia sayings & slang go over her head so she'll attempt to casually ask Daryl what it means
i wanna get into doing music so bad but there's so much secret math in there. anyone got tips for learning music theory and guitar when you got dyscalculia/dyslexia
I don't post my piano covers a lot here (mostly because it takes so LONG to post) so I just decided to actually post one of my piano covers that I recorded recently (more like 2 hours ago)
🎹
🎹
I learned this song probably in late 2021 to early 2022 and it was the first song I learned from musecore because most of the songs I played were from children's book lol
🎹
🎹
I'll post more of my covers later tho I just don't feel like recording them right now (i already deleted them from my files because I have LOW storage 😞😞😞)
Anyway here's how I do the thing. First I convert the letters into notes using this chart
then I make the bassline by playing the first note of a word and playing it for the entire word. I accent capital letters after that. if the formatting of a word is notable I'll just sorta do something neat with it, there's no real rules.
I use musecore for the scores and the basic playback but if I like a tune I'll load it into fl studio and make something w/ it. If anyone else wants to use the idea for their own gimmick then I encourage it.
the project has reached that point where impatience is kicking in. Progress feels less significant. At this point, I have all the designs and most of the mental road map laid out for the script BUT I know myself, I need to at least make the turnarounds and some style tests first. Learning musecore is something I can do a bit later since I’m not sure what to even compose yet anyway. Here’s an update on the design:
And! Which is equally exciting, I can now announce that the comic will be called “Trash, the dog who saved the world”, TSTW for short. The name of the band that we’ve been designing is “garbage truck”. Let me explain.
Being completely honest I spent most of the week thinking of just these two names and how they serve the story. On one hand, metal has this rich history of having silly names just for the fun of it. Fun fact: Gojira was called Godzilla until the band got in legal trouble for using a copyrighted name. Allow me to illustrate my point using a meme:
I honestly don’t know how else to explain it. It just made sense to me that a punk metal classical fusion band would be called garbage truck, and that their band pet would be called trash. With that in mind, we can start to brainstorm what kind of logo they would have. Maybe the story behind the band name has its roots in something slightly more narrative than “it sounded cool”: despite what it might seem on a surface level, the theme of garbage actually works well. in punk, you take out the trash. In metal, a lot of very good music sounds “putrid” and “vile” and is regarded as trashy by outsiders. The last thing you’d expect from a band called “Garbage truck” is an insane string section. It’s thematic, has potential, is simple and memorable and creates a nice element of tension and release. It also gives off “boys who never stopped thinking things were cool” vibes which I quite like.
I looked up metal band logos and came across this video by crustbag doing a deep dive into what the point of them is.
youtube
I’m relieved to know they’re meant for the vibes™ so that means I can have fun. I would highly recommend watching the video if that’s something that interests you. For now, I have an initial version (tweaking here and there to be done) of the logo which looks pretty fun to me. let me know what you think.
a short update, but progress nonetheless. been working out some personal stuff in the background, trying to live in a capitalist system and whatnot… in any case! I’d like to get some art made next week. we’ll see.
instead of doing my homework today, i spent a lot of time composing some music. It's pretty simple and has no lyrics, since I'm still an total beginner at making music, but I'm really happy since this is actually the first time I've made a song that I consider "complete"! All my other songs could hardly even reach 30 seconds, but this one's over a minute and a half!!
I'm excited to put it into garageband to get everything all sorted. It might take a while and be a bit of a pain in the ass, though. this is my first time finishing something in musecore, so idk how well it transfers over. I'm just really proud, and happy. I hope that i have the time to do more stuff like this in the future.
Cap, do you have a laptop, or just like computer of any kind because if so, I would recommend making music on musecore 3 it’s free but you have to download it and it’s only on computers as far as I can tell
This week in TME our cohort explored several of the most common music notation software programs used in music classrooms. These include Noteflight, Finale, Musecore and Sibelius. We primarily discussed the similarities and differences between these programs, such as how easy or difficult it is to export files and what you can actually export them as. For example, Sibelius is the only one of the programs that can export video which would be a great boon for those wishing to upload tutorial videos with a score to play along in the background. This feature would even be useful for classroom teachers who wish to share their own arrangements to a class where Sibelius might not be available.
However, programs like Musescore actually have their own website where you can view free scores and download them to use for educational purposes. I have in fact utilised Musescore’s online database to discover repertoire for a sax quartet I’m currently in which has proven to be a huge time/money saver.
Many more things were explored throughout the various programs, but despite the pros and cons of these softwares, I personally prefer Sibelius as my default music notation program primarily due to the fact that I actually spent $400 on the thing. It has been rewarding though through its wide variety palette hence being easy to navigate.
The most useful thing that we learnt however was the ability to essentially ‘take a photo’ of a particular section of your score and transfer it like any other picture to another program such as Word, Powerpoint etc. Even after all my years of using the program I never realised Sibelius and Musescore had this little sneaky feature. Now gone are the days of manually taking photos, cropping them, downloading them and putting them into my documents. Honestly made incorporating score excerpts from Sibelius so much easier.
An invaluable book
Musecore is relatively easy to use and the book is absolutely invaluable. I use Musescore almost every day to create singing version of songs - in midi format - so I can practice the piano accompaniment, I do the same with cello duets - once again so I can practice the cello accompaniment. And for my Rounds & Canons group I can send out our songs in PDF format and also create MP3 files by first exporting the Musecore song in midi format and then using GarageBand to convert the midi file to an MP3 file. Love Musecore!

This is the definitive MuseScore manual
Get this book, lose the inch-high printout stack you created when you tried to make sense of the original operating manual. Your purchase helps to subsidize further modifications to the program, and you'll wonder how you ever got along without Mastering MuseScore. The first two chapters alone are worth the purchase.

FREE KICKS AND IMPRESSIVE SCORES!
"Mastering MuseScore" is not an easy book to read, let alone a "fun" read. Even those who can easily pick out a German Sixth in a platoon of Plagal Cadences will, I think, need to roll up their studious sleeves anew if they are to benefit from this book. It is not primarily about creating or performing beautiful music, but about formulating, refining and then communicating composers' and arrangers' definitive musical instructions to interpreters and performers (and discerning listeners), so that beautifully performed music may result.

There is a free online guide, but having this book with its index is easier to use, at least for me. Some reviews here report that the text is hard to read, but I had no problem in that regard.

Needed this long ago.
Excellent Reference
The book is precise, short in form, and ...
Marvelous book for enabling one to use all the bells and whistles in the MuseScore Music composition program
but the program is wonderful. MuseScore deserves a 4 star rating
Excellent documentation!
Slow to get into.

Kind of relating to the last HC about her having cut Daryl's hair pre apocalypse;
Ship or not, while she's probably the only one allowed to cut Daryl's hair, she also secretly not so secretly 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 his hair longer, cause it's pretty and she likes to play with it or run her fingers through it
Plus somehow he's always got the ear poking out, so she can't resist fixing his hair without thinking about it
